Any guesses? Embark results soon! ~Bentley
Hello and good evening all!!
We got our sweet boy ,Bentley 4 months ago (wow does time fly) from the humane society. Little guy and his siblings were found in an abandoned car in Oklahoma :( He was one of 4 from the litter (two siblings were mainly white with black and one was brown with black) and they were unfortunately split up upon arrival. We were told Lab mix! Mind you, he was completely black and white when we adopted him. After a few weeks we noticed he was turning more brown (itā€™s as if every other hair on his body is brown then black, and heā€™s also developed a white spot on his tail and some stray whites on his back). Our first thoughts when we first got him was lab/pit, but our minds were definitely shifted when his legs got SUPER long so we think Great Dane?? There was a point in time where the fur on his back was WAYYY darker and rougher than the rest of his body so we also thought Rhodesian ridgeback, but itā€™s not quite the same ā€œMohawkā€ style they have and itā€™s not as noticeable anymore. We have our Embark results coming back ā€œwithin the next week or twoā€ so Iā€™ll definitely update you all, but this is what I think. What are your thoughts? :)
Lab, Great Dane, German short haired pointer, and Doberman!
My wife thinks Lab, Dane, German short haired pointer and pitbull
My mom thinks Lab, Dane, and Rhodesian ridgeback
Iā€™ve included some funny/derpy, baby, top shots, and a current picture of our funny and loving guyā¤ļø

2024.05.14 04:55 MaximumCombination40 Rescue pup diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma of spleen, mast cell tumor of leg. We have a lot of questions!

Hello all appreciate any insights as a lot of this information came out of nowhere. Briefly my family dog whom was adopted by us at 5 years old healthy as far as we know. Over the last months we noticed he had a lump on his leg that grew more than some of his other lumps. He went ot vet and biopsied and concerning for mast cell tumor and removal was recommended. The day of surgery last week preop (unclear why) an ultrasound of abdomen done showed enlarged spleen concerning for mass and surgery was recommended and underwent. Today we got pathology report that indicates mass was hemangiosarcoma. Parents have a follow up in a few days and are recommended to see an oncologist. I was doing some research and it seems a lot of the time this is found late or after its ruptured so I have a few questions. 1. What is the usual clinical course for this diagnosis post removal if no chemo
  1. Is dog chemo as rough on the system as human chemo often is, we don't want him to suffer especially if its not curative/significanlt yprolonging life span/quality.
  2. What specific other questions should we ask our vet at follow up appointment about symptoms to evaluate, meds/treatment options
  3. Is it known why this is so aggressive even post removal if there were no symptoms?

2024.05.13 21:49 ChiefWatchesYouPee Dog scan/irritation? Could this be mites?

Photos
Dog Age: 6 Sex: Male and neutered Breed: Dachshund/Doberman mix Body Weight: 40lbs History: healthy minor ear infections every now and then. Clinical signs: he has an irritated spot on his lower belly next to his groin. Some red bumps. It scabs over but then seems to have some red bumps again. Not itching it and doesnā€™t seem to bother him much. Duration: hard to say maybe a week or 2 Location: south Texas
My girlfriend doesnā€™t think it is anything to worry about. It doesnā€™t seem to be bothering him but it also doesnā€™t seem to be going away.
Iā€™m wondering if it could be bird mites? We had a birds nest in our dryer vent at our apartment that was cleaned out a week or 2 ago. I found some small bugs crawling on our window sill just the other day.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you!

2024.05.13 17:31 IrisMarieRose Not a collie?

Not a collie?
I recently got a pup and was told by the rescue he was a collie great Pyrenees mix and we did an ancestry dog DNA kit (I think they aren't 100% accurate I'm planning on getting embark in the future) but it says he is 50% Doberman Pinscher and 50% Great Pyrenees. It kinda makes sense with his leg length but not fully with his colors. It also had some of his possible traits wrong which I was guessing it would lol. He is going to be my service dog and is doing amazing in his training but I want to know your guys opinions on if this could be accurate based on his looks or if the shelter was right. His coat is rough and in between medium length and short length.

Intermittent diarrhea - 10 yrs, 80 lbs
Hi everyone!
My hound mix (pictured on the bottom, some say Doberman but I never got her tested) is 10.5 years old and about 80 pounds. She has diarrhea every few days/week. It always is the same cycle: solid for a few days, a big poop that goes from solid to soft, and then emergent/loose stools with mucous for a day or so. No other symptoms and sheā€™s eating normal. I have another dog (9.5 yrs old, 50 lbs) and she never has any issues and gets the same exact stuff. Iā€™m not sure what I should do? Change food? Add something? Go to vet?
I want to also add that she has some pretty bad anxiety so Iā€™m wondering if thatā€™s causing it??
Thanks so much :)

I saw a black cane corso / doberman mix a couple weeks ago and I fell in love with him. Looks like it crawled straight out of the fiery pits of the 7th layer of hell. Super badass.
Anyone know the best mix possible to get the most demonic looking dog? I would name them Hades.
Thank you for any advice!

2024.05.09 06:44 ophelias_tragedy Please help with my 7 month old crazy girl!

We adopted a lab-doberman mix 6 weeks ago this Saturday. She was 6 months at adoption (give or take 1-2 weeks). She was found as a stray, brought into a kill shelter in Louisiana, and then brought up here to CT and had been in a foster home for 2 months when we got her.
She was very anxious the first two weeks (as expected) but has settled in significantly since then. I know about the 333 rule but we are struggling in her day by day care and routine right now.
Her routine: she sleeps in a crate from 8pm-6am. At 6am she is taken on a walk and has some out of crate playtime until 8am. I WFH and take her out again around 11-11:30am. She plays in our fenced in yard for a while and I usually give her a treat puzzle, kong, work on our clicker training, or play tug if she wants.
At around 2-2:30pm she tends to get overly excited/nippy/chewy and so I put her in her crate for a nap, which she HATES. She is taken out again around 4:30-5, whatever time I finish my work, and we go on a another walk. We put her back in the crate to cook/eat dinneetc. at around 6 because she cannot be out and not cause ruckus during this. We take her out again at 7 and either run around in the yard, go for another walk, or do some more training/mental stimulation games. She goes back into the crate for the night at 8-8:30 and settles quickly. She also goes to puppy training class every week.
I am just SO frustrated with having to keep a constant eye on her when sheā€™s not in the crate. I read people on here having 4 month olds that can occupy and nap themselves and Iā€™m so jealous! She just canā€™t settle! Itā€™s always go go go, I have never seen this dog asleep since she only sleeps in her covered crate lol.
Iā€™ve tried letting her wander and not have my full attention while I go back to work, hoping to keep her out of the crate, but she bites me, bites the furniture, jumps on me, and just gets crazy. She barks at and chases the cats (they do not want to play lol), which makes her even more rowdy. It gets to be so much I just have to put her in the crate even though I feel bad.
I know this behavior is probably BECAUSE she needs a nap, but she just canā€™t relax without my intervention. And if she bites once before her crate time and I push her away or try to ignore hewalk away, she jumps and bites even more.
The very very few times she is calm she is extremely sweet and cuddly. She wants to be hugged, sit on your lap, lick your face, and play very nicely. Those moments are great and remind me why I love her so much but they quickly descend into her being over excited and more biting. When we work on our clicker training, it either focuses her or makes her more excited because of the treats sheā€™s getting.
Mostly I really want her to be able to be free in my house without me watching, I want us to be able to leave for a few minutes and not worry about what she does while weā€™re gone. I want her to be able to get excited and happy but not hurt us by biting. I am just at a loss. Most of the time I love her but sometimes I wonder why I even adopted a puppy instead of an older dog like I originally wanted.
Please help! Any words of encouragement would also be appreciated. I just need to know itā€™s worth it to tough it all out.

2024.05.09 02:47 Ok_Zookeepergame_385 Less expensive vet who does surgeries?

I saw a post about this a few years ago, but they were asking about South Bay. I adopted a Doberman mix puppy and turns out he has a blood disease (Von Willebrands) so canā€™t have a regular neutering, he has to go to a surgical center in case his blood doesnā€™t clot. Anyway, Iā€™ve been quoted anywhere from $3k-10k andā€¦ok $3k isnā€™t RIDICULOUS if he needs a plasma transfusion and has to stay over night, but even that quote said itā€™d start at $3k but may be as high as $5k. Anyway, anyone know of a generally less expensive vet surgical center or specialist? I appreciate any help/suggestions - we rescued him but the rescue only covers the regular cost of a neutering, which is about $300-400 :/ I know dogs can cost money but didnā€™t think itā€™d be this expensive just to neuter him! Iā€™m in mid-city but certainly donā€™t mind driving anywhere around LA County (or just outside!) to save a bit. Oh and Iā€™m not considered low-income so the awesome benefits that some vets offer to those who are donā€™t apply to me.

Sibling with slightly different breed percentages when your dog is 50-50?
Hello. Remember Gwen? She is a 50/50 St.Bernard Doberman mix. We know her sister Trixie. And Trixie is 50.4% Saint Bernard and 49.6% Doberman. I am wondering how the percentages can be different, even if it is a small amount. Is this correct, or maybe an error of some kind? Here is the link to the relative page: https://my.embarkvet.com/related/gwen255/trixie1656?utm_campaign=cns_ref_dog_relatives&utm_medium=other&utm_source=embark
Gwen pictures are also for those of you who wanted to see what she would look like when she was a little older. Sheā€™s just under six months now. Iā€™ll post some pictures again in a few months. I still wouldnā€™t have guessed her breeds. Sheā€™s just under 60 pounds with a lot of growing still to do. Those big feet and so much extra skin.

2024.05.07 08:01 Bluewalkie Daily wake-up at 4:30 (Doberman-mix puppy)

Daily wake up at 4:30
Hey, Iā€™ve posted here before with various problems we have had with our puppy. While Iā€™m sad to say that puppy blues are not over at 5 months (with us since 10 weeks old), we are still trying.
The recent most pressing issue is an early wake up. Somehow Sandy went from around 6.00 every day to between 4 and 5 (and increasing closer to 4). She wonā€™t go back to bed after a walk and is hungry. Weā€™ve had a lot of complains from neighbours, who are very sensitive even hearing one bark - which I understand to some degree, but it made it insanely hard to ignore Sandy and let her settle again in these early mornings.
Iā€™ve seen conflicting advice on internet - to either feed your puppy early (around 17.00) or late (21.00) in order to make her sleep through the night until a reasonable hour. What would be your advice?
We have even considered asking a vet for melatonin because we canā€™t do it physically and we need some immediate relief, but Iā€™m afraid of getting her dependent on it and stomach-related side effects. Do you have any experience with it?
Any other advice will be highly appreciated. For the context she is a Doberman-mix, over 5 months old. She gets around 6-7 walks a way of minimum 15 minutes (and two over 1 hour with off leash running), daily training, food puzzles etc. She goes to sleep around 22, although we have tried to put her later (around midnight) but it did not help.

Is Samson purebred?
I just got this boy from the humane society! No one wanted him because he was ā€œscaryā€ and after a year at the humane society I adopted him. Sweetest thing on earth, never barks or tries to go to other dogs. I am curious if heā€™s mixed or a purebred? He has all the Doberman personality traits, heā€™s very smart but stubborn. He had zero training and is already learning so fast!

2024.05.05 13:49 HumanHellfire Looking for my first dog breed :)

**Introduction** 1)Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs? Yes it will be my first dog, I have been around dogs and know everything about training them in theory but have not done so in practice (except with my cat! She passed away so no other pets in the household) 2)Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a [reputable breeder]( http://ownresponsibly.blogspot.com/2011/07/identifying-reputable-breeder.html)? A breeder unless I can find a good match in a rescue centre, I will likely spend a year keeping an eye on rescue centres first. 3)Describe your ideal dog. Long or medium haired, red colour (browns and goldens or mix colour also welcome), medium size, doesn't require too much exercise (about 1-2 hours walk a day max) but will be happy to go on the occasional 2-3 hour adventure with me. Able to do agiligity well but non-competitively. Doesn't need too much indoor or outdoor space outside of walk times and is able to be left alone for around 7-8 hours 4-5 days a week. 4)What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why? Long haired daschund because I like their size, except their legs are a little too short for my walking and agility goals with them. I love Nova Scotia Tollers. I love all kinds of shepard dog (german, belgian, dutch and collies) but I just cannot meet their exercise requirments, and for my first dog I'd like it to be a medium to small size to fit into my small home. Something like an australian cattle dog in size and traits but that has long hair would be nice. 5)What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do? Agility, retrieving exercises outdoors, maybe scent identification/scent retrival. 6) Do you want to compete with your dog in a sport (e.g. agility, obedience, rally) or use your dog for a form of work (e.g. hunting, herding, livestock guarding)? If so, how much experience do you have with this work/sport? All activities would be non-competitive! So no :) **Care Commitments** 7) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day? 2-3 hours 8) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park? 1-2 hour walk around the town and out into local footpaths and woods. Includes time playing fetch in a public park 9)How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly? Happy to brush once or twice a day. Am open to trimming hair but don't want to have to do lots of grooming at home. Professional grooming a few times a year is fine. **Personal Preferences** 10)What size dog are you looking for? Medium, or the larger side of the small catagory 11) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle? Shedding and barking is fine, through lower pitch barking is preferred with only ocassional yapping as I don't do well with lots of yapping. Would like to somewhat avoid slobber but not too fussy, I accept that owning a dog comes with fur and smell and mess :) 12) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area? Somewhat important for the dogs sake to be off leash in fields and parks, but for myself I'm not worried either way. **Dog Personality and Behavior** 13) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space? Either is fine :) Happy to snuggle and provide lots of attention. Don't want a dog that avoids attention most of the time though, some stroking would be nice! 14) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one thatā€™s more eager-to-please? Eager to please preferred, but either is okay. 15) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard? How would you prefer your dog to greet strangers or visitors? Not worried, don't want to wake the neighbours with huge amounts of large barking but some is fine. I'm hoping to train them to greet strangers without jumping up, but enthusiasm is welcome, as is a dog that ignores strangers and visitors completely. 16) Are you willing to manage a dog that is aggressive to other dogs? Barking at other dogs is fine and anything that can be managed with training is fine, but I woold not like to have to stop my dog being aggressive to others. 17) Are there any other behaviors you canā€™t deal with or want to avoid? Nope. I'm very keen and eager to train a dog so as long as the breed is training reciptive I'm open. **Lifestyle** 18) How often and how long will the dog be left alone? about 4 times a week. Potentially for 4-5 hours if I come home at lunchtime or work at home, and up to 8 hours a day a few times a week 19) What are the dog-related preferences of other people in the house and what will be their involvement in caring for the dog? I live on my own and will care for the dog on my own. 20) Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets? What breed or type of animal are they? No pets. No plans for other pets, but maybe a large dog like a german shepard in around 10 years time; I will not get another dog through if this dog is happier on its own. 21) Will the dog be interacting with children regularly? Not regularly. Maybe occasionally in the park and in public, but generally I will keep the dog away from children and I have no children in my life, family, frend group etc. 22) Do you rent or plan to rent in the future? If applicable, what breed or weight restrictions are on your current lease? May rent in future, will choose the lease and landlord according to if they will allow the dog I get. 23) What city or country do you live in and are you aware of any laws banning certain breeds? UK, Birmingham. UK laws ban Fila Brasileiros, opit bulls, Japanese Tosas and Dogo argentinos 24) What is the average temperature of a typical summer and winter day where you live? Summer is average 225, highest 30. Winter gets down to 0-2 degrees coldest, average 5-8 degrees in winter **Additional Information and Questions** 25) Please provide any additional information you feel may be relevant. A dog that can be trained to aid with anxiety and depressive bouts would be a bonus, but not required 26) Feel free to ask any questions below.

2024.05.01 19:49 MajorDickle Behavior issues relating to protection. How can I fix it?

Behavior issues relating to protection. How can I fix it?
So my girl is a Doberman German Shepard Mix. Pure 50/50 according to DNA test. She is 3 years old but we got her when she was estimated to be 1Ā½.
Now that background is out of the way, how do I get her to not feel the need to protect me? I live with family and if anyone dares call my name she starts to bark and growl. If anyone comes near my room she does the same thing. If anyone or any dog approaches my car she barks and growls. She does not do this with other people in my home. My dad will take her out in his car and she feels no need to bark or growl. Or if I'm gone on vacation I've been told she barks less or not at all.
I have been unemployed for a year sadly so I have been with her almost 365 24/7. How can I get her to feel the need to not protect so much? From what I have researched Dobermans have a tendency to get attached to one person so that is why I felt it was appropriate to post my question here. If not appropriate I'm willing to post this elsewhere. Thank you.

Hey everyone. Iā€™m currently feeding my 1yr old Doberman purina salmon sensitive skin. Everyone in this thread was super helpful identifying that she was allergic to chicken and after a month of using this food and Benadryl her hives cleared up like crazy.
Only down side is this food is super expensive. I mix it with rice as you guys in this thread recommended.
Are there any alternative cheaper kibble with salmon you guys recommend? Thanks!

2024.04.30 18:26 Bifo-throwaway Fed up and scared for my dog and my familyā€™s safety

I made this account to post her because Iā€™m afraid my main could have identifying information. Anyway I need advice on how to handle a neighbor with a pit. My family adopted our dog (a beagle) almost 2 years ago and before I never really paid attention to all the dogs in the neighborhood. I knew there was a family with a golden and husky and another with a Doberman. But since getting our dog I have become aware there are many pits in our neighborhood. Most of them actually seem to be owned by people who keep to themselves and their dogs donā€™t cause much ruckus. Expect one. A white pit (mostly likely a mix?) owned by an older couple with one of them being in an electric wheelchair. I canā€™t make this shit up. They put their pit out on a line in their front yard multiple times a day and it barks and growls at anything or anyone who passes by. The owners sit outside with it and do absolutely nothing. One time when I was walking my dog I didnā€™t realize their dog was out (I avoid their street at all cost but was at the diagonal corner if that makes sense) the pit started barking at my dog and growling. It was practically choking itself to get to my dog so I yelled ā€œcontrol your fucking dogā€. Their response? ā€œIf you donā€™t like it walk your dog somewhere else.ā€ So according to these idiots I shouldnā€™t be able to walk my own dog in my own neighborhood because they own an aggressive breed. Then today I was headed out this morning to take my dog on her morning walk when unfortunately their dog was outside and I can somewhat see their front yard if I stand on the edge of our lot. Anyway I decided to just allow my dog to potty and was going to take her back inside when the pit started going crazy. I could hear it barking and growling but was certain it couldnā€™t see me or my dog. Turns out a delivery driver was attempting to deliver a package and the pit was pulling to get to the drivetruck. The owner had took their wheelchair to the end out the driveway I presume because the driver refused to exit his truck. I filmed a little bit of the situation on my phone at the end of the truck driving away and the owners yelling at the pit while it continues to try and get to the truck. All this to say Iā€™m terrified of this dog getting loose one day. I need advice on how I can avoid this dog at all costs. Iā€™ve looked into my cities laws and I canā€™t seem to find any laws being broken or anything. Is there anything more I can do?

When I called about them, they had all been adopted. I told the lady I wanted one because I needed a smart dog. She introduced me to this ā€œcattle dogā€! The rest is our history; I found Ginger, my ACD mix! And sheā€™s absolutely amazing!!

2024.04.29 04:49 fogfree Straddling worlds and Pt 3 predictions.

I believe Cloud is straddling 2 worlds at the end of Rebirth , which why he is seeing the rift in the sky.
The splintered worlds are created when diverging events from the current world's story occur. This post describes it well.
https://www.reddit.com/FFVIIRemake/s/WdPJi1RIb8
So far we have 5, with each dog representative of the main protagonist of that world:
I read somewhere that we should expect 7 worlds total. Don't recall if that was from an interview, the Utimania, or speculation, but 7 is highly likely regardless.
Prediction: - 6th world - Cloud's dreamworld where he saved Aerith. Calling German Shepherd Stamp, or maybe Doberman or Rottweiler, representative of a mix of Clouds perception of himself as a protector, and the strong influence of Sephiroth/Jenova/Black materia making him dangerous to others.
Cloud creates his dreamworld when he deflects the sword. This new world exists and is moved forward by Cloud under his belief Aerith is alive, but he will still follow the same path as Beagle - hunting down Sephiroth. He is straddling both - one foot in each. Hence why he sees the rift. These 2 worlds are directly overlapping until Cloud reconciles with the truth about Aerith, and then they will merge - symbolic of his acceptance of her death and his freedom from Sephiroth's influence, given than this will very likely happen during his Lifestream portion. This will form the final 7th world, which will eventually absorb the rest of the fragments as the gang triumphs.
I do think they will handle his Lifestream sequence differently. I think Lifestream Aerith will play a role and lead him to Tifa to put together the rest.
