Should driving schools/instructors be penalized for stupidity of their students post getting licence?

2024.05.15 10:05 swatkat4life Should driving schools/instructors be penalized for stupidity of their students post getting licence?

As the title says. I was driving today and saw a private car on the road with an L sticker. You may think what's wrong but there were a few, 1. Hogging right lane 2. Hogging center line 3. Driving erratically I understand she was learning but that doesn't mean you should endanger the life of others. There are other things which irritate me and most of you out there which are, 1. Left side overtaking 2. Hogging of fast lanes 3. Driving/riding without headlight 4. Driving/riding without seatbelt and helmet (respectively) 5. Zig zagging on the road 6. Over speeding 7. Not maintaining safe distance Among other things. I feel the DL/registration of the driving school should be linked to every person and if someone causes an accident or breaks any law, the school will get a point and the ones with more points will lead it closing and suspension of the instructors license. If this is implemented, the instructors will be incentivised to ensure their students are properly taught and follow road safety and laws!

2024.05.15 03:54 Due_Locksmith9204 Unacceptable bottom surfaces of PETG print

I have a Creality CR-10 that has been used extensively for the past six years, with an estimated 4000 – 5000 prints. I am about to replace it with a new Creality K1 Max, my printer runs most days.
I’ve played with all of the relevant Support settings individually, but have had no success in finding any solution that will allow me to have a similar finish on the bottom of the print as I have on the top of the print.
My issue is that the bottom side of the prints are extremely rough, and now I need to produce a series of prints that need to be near perfect on all sides. I cannot use a brim to print the brim without supports, because the bottom surfaces of the print are not in direct contact with the buildplate.
All bottom surfaces of the print, that sit on top of the supports coming up from the buildplate, are always extremely rough and often have holes in them. Please refer to the attached images below.
The top and walls of the print are perfect, very clean and I couldn’t in all fairness fault their appearance, however, faces of the print sitting on supports are the issue, there appears to be something wrong with either the top of the support settings, or the initial layer settings of the bottom of the print. Does anyone have any experience with solving this issue?
Regarding the below images, on each occasion I have stopped the printer when the printer had finished printing the supports and the initial layer for the underside recess has progressed part of the way through what I expect to be a perfect floor surface of the recessed bottom of the print.
A second question that I have is “If a setting is hidden in Cura, does that mean that the setting is in fact disabled?”

I am currently using the latest Cura 5.7.1 settings

2024.05.15 03:19 Largefoot-Yeti-395 Which route did Mallory and Irvine climb in 1924?

Mallory and Irvine likely chose the "zig-zag" route above the Couloir for their 1924 Everest summit attempt, rather than the ridge route or an ascent out of the small-gully of the Couloir. This inference is supported by several pieces of evidence:
  1. Mallory had informed expedition photographer John Noel that his alternative plan, should the "small gully" (Couloir) prove impractical, was to "cross above the top of the Couloir and access the ridge of the East Face at a point above the Couloir." This strategy aligns with the characteristics of the zig-zag route.
  2. Noel Odell's last sighting of Mallory and Irvine at 12:50 pm showed them traversing the area above the Couloir, consistent with the zig-zag route rather than an ascent out of the small-gully of the Couloir or the ridge.
  3. Mallory had described the ridge route as "impossible," suggesting that he would not have opted for this more challenging path during their summit attempt. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdMzmvrIdYc)
So while we can't know for certain, the preponderance of evidence from Mallory's own statements and the expedition records points to Mallory and Irvine attempting the zig-zag and being spotted by Odell at 12:50 on the rock step a short distance from the base of the final pyramid (the Third Step).

2024.05.15 02:29 naturalresourcecurse help! what is wrong with my machine!

I have the Brother XR3774. I’m trying to do a zig zag stitch (setting 3). It keeps being uneven! I rethreaded everything several times, played around with the tension on the needle and the bobbin, and cleaned the bobbin tray.
If it’s a tension issue - does it need to be higher or lower??
If not, what else can I try? Thank you!!

2024.05.14 23:23 DrMarioPharmD Won't leave the boundary wire

We got a 2023 L (named Mowe by the kiddos) not quite a year ago. We used it for the front yard last year and it did ok until AT&T came running fiber. They cut the wire 3x and a sprinkler box despite being notified of both before working. Pulled the wire, soldered the breaks, and relocated to the back yard. To sanity test halfway around, I ran a jog back to base and left the remaining wire spool behind the base. Symptom- Mowe will start regular mode or 2-zone mode. He'll go about 10ft zig zagging along the wire, then stop, back up, give the Starting Blade beep, and go again back the other way. It'll repeat over and over but never leave the wire. In 2-zone it will give up after a few tries and give Wire Not Found error. Any ideas? Wire borked, can't have excess at the base, gremlins?

2024.05.14 19:00 DrDiab Had my laparoscopy a week ago, feeling neglected and very anxious -- no results given.

I'd like to hear your experiences to find out if I should be concerned.
I had my surgery last monday, it's my first one. I'm 22. Also a trans dude so he/him pronouns please (I'm only saying this because I would totally assume the poster was a woman too if I read a post on here).
Miscommunication has characterised every step of this journey (hooray NHS), from a consultation wait list that took 14 months because they forgot about me to on the day of the surgery, them mixing up the fact that I was a stay in patient for the night (I didn't have anyone to take me home, and this was discussed three times at different appointments beforehand). After the surgery the nurse tells me I have glue on my incisions, so I don't need to do anything. Nope! They are stitches! So I'm going to go to a walk in clinic to sort that out soon because I looked it up and apparently you're not supposed to leave those in for more than ten days.
I didn't find out the results of the surgery; I very briefly saw the surgeon before the surgery and he was very grumpy with me even though I wasn't chattering. Just answered his questions as succinctly as possible. I was not prescribed any pain killer either, and the pain was bad. I woke up in shock, shivering like crazy, no count down on the anesthetic. Also my period started the day after.
The nurse told me I would receive the results in a letter after a couple days when they sent samples to a histrionics labs. It's been a week now... Yeah maybe I'm impatient but with all this miscommunication so far it's driving my anxiety through the roof. I have received absolutely 0 information about what happened during the surgery.
And this is just aesthetics but the incision on my bellybutton is just. So messy. They closed my belly button into a zig zag.
Should I be concerned? Or am I just paranoid when thinking that perhaps there's been miscommunication again and my results may have been lost? I don't know, I'm scared and when I call the number they gave me they told me I need to go to A and E if I want to see anyone for anything -- that means a nine hour wait in this city.
I'm sorry this is so rambly, I just have no one in my corner right now and I'm desperate to know something. Any insight would be appreciated.

2024.05.14 11:14 planeterougedev Straightening wood for arrows

I have access to some good small shoots/thin saplings of a certain tree, but they zig-zag a bit through their length.
How should I go about straightening them? I would like to know all the available methods to do this. I have a heat gun.
Initially I thought about making some sort of jig to enclose and clamp the (heated/steamed?) shoot into a straight cylindrical hollow, between two pieces of wood.
But I'm at the point where I should just ask you guys.

2024.05.14 05:05 catladycg New to gardening, need a recommendation

We have 3 2x5 raised flower beds lined up lengthwise. Our local nursery recommended a soaker hose since we don’t have any automatic irrigation system. The only soaker hose they had at our local Lowe’s is pretty rigid, we’re not able to zig zag it through the beds. Any recommendations on a good flexible soaker hose that will work in a tight space? We are zone 9a so we can’t rely on Mother Nature to give us any natural watering from April through NovembeDecember most years.

2024.05.14 03:36 Kazuki_the_Hyena INTJ & Art Share Your Story

I've always been a lover of art. Unlike most, however, I wanted to be a part of that world and not just merely an observer. This seemed counter-intuitive to who I thought I was as an INTJ. You all know the stereotype: cold and calculating. Logic over emotion. Spock. But much like Spock himself, we INTJs actually feel emotion even more strongly than other people - we just tend to hide it. Another thing: a sense of identity. We INTJs have a very strong sense of individualism. If everybody else zigs, we zag. We tend to choose the path of greatest resistance, despite it being somehow illogical, simply because no one else will do so.
This manifested in me through art. I had no innate talent for drawing nor for music. During the Pandemic, I took up photography which turned out to be a good blend of the artistic mindset and calculating logic. Although I was good at the craft, I eventually moved away from it. There are various reasons for which I don't want to get to here. I'm not just blowing myself up when I say I was good at it. I received a lot of praise for my photo work. Yet at the same time I found that it was undervalued. I suppose it sort of stems from the INTJ tendency to fixate on abstract ideas, that search for the core truth, which when manifested in my work nobody understood.
Later on, I dabbled a bit in design. I thought I could get out of the 9-5 workplace and yet do something I enjoyed at the same time. I'm aware that there are many freelancer designers out there who get to work from home. For whatever reason though, the opportunities that presented themselves at the time were from a studio or office. I got an interview, and then, after a shaky interview due to my lack of actual work experience in the field, somehow secured a job. I didn't show up. On that final interview, I had a slight "tour" of the office and they also gave me a test to see how I'd perform. It was there I discovered it was just going to be another run-of-the-mill job. In hindsight, I should have expected this. Whatever the case may be, I realized I didn't quit my last job just to get another office job where the only difference is the kind of pencil I pushed.
So finally, I ended up where I am now. I'm a cartoonist and caricaturist. The kind you see on New Yorker and Mad Magazine. As I mentioned before, I was bad at drawing. But some kind of mad spirit had possessed me and, in less than a year, I learned how to draw portraits and other things. There's still much for me to learn and I haven't reached any tangible kind of success yet. But I finally reached a place where I think I belong. The kind of work that I can and WANT to do until I die.
I've always been somewhat successful in past endeavors. I was as the top of my game in my last "real" job. In short, there has always been some kind of reward for my efforts that was, relatively, easy enough to aim for and achieve. This is different. My endeavors this past year have been the hardest in my entire life. Simply because this is such an unknown path. There's not much obvious and current data for me to go by and formulate a strategy. There is no clear reward at the end. And then there's things like AI. It's frightening. It's No-Man's land. Of course, I'm not going into this with my eyes closed. I still have my logic and one needs to put bread on the table. Of course, there are things in place for that. But still. There's the guilt for doing something that, statistically speaking, has a very low chance of success. Guilt to my family, guilt to myself. But never me the odds. Actually, tell me - but I'll ignore it anyway. So, in almost all aspects, my current endeavor goes against who I am as an INTJ except for one: my sense of individualism.
So that's my story thus far. If you're an INTJ and an artist in any sense of the word, I'd love to hear yours.
PS. Read my story with a grain of salt. I'm not trying to push a lesson. I'm also fully aware that some of the mindsets and perceptions I've had or currently have may not be entirely true. Again, it's just a story.

2024.05.14 02:38 c137_whirly Need some advice on how I can play with my kids without anyone getting hurt

Hey dads I could use some additional perspective here. I have two boys 2 and 4 and the best part of my day is playing and rough housing with them but it's getting to the point where I can't be involved with the play because they hurt themselves.
They do great playing together they will roll around and wrestle and rough house like boys do and the second I go to join to just have some fun they get so hyped up they immediately go crazy. 9 out of 10 times it ends with one of them getting hurt in some way.
Just the other day we were playing on the couch they were falling across my lap but I'd catch them and toss them backwards onto the couch. Well of course after about 10 minutes of this basically one kid zigged the other zagged and banged their heads together giving my 2 year old a small black eye and my 4 year old a nice lump on his forehead.
Tonight, happened about an hour ago, we were in the basement, we have a small bounce house down there for them to play on. Well they we doing great on their own and I was sitting on the couch. Well I wanted to join so any time they came to the couch I'd tickle them. Well my 2 year old was leaning on the couch after I tickled him and my 4 year old spun to escape the tickles and accidentally caught the 2 year old with his foot and left him with a good bloody lip. Both kids are okay from the event.
What am I supposed to do here? I have the best time playing with them, I always try to play safe with them to make sure they don't get hurt and when it's one on one, no one gets hurts. They just get so excited when I join to play and everything goes right out the window and the only way to settle them down is for me to remove myself from the play. I don't want my kids to see me as the dad that just puts them in front of the TV or sits there on his phone and we have so much fun rough housing together I just don't know what to do.
I appreciate any advice and perspectives on this dads.

When I zigged, the market zagged. Came into some money and wanted to try my hand at this… Deposited money -> lost it and repeat a few times.
Lost it in SPY, NVDA, and AMD…. Somehow. In fact, nearly every trade I did, it did the exact opposite for days in a row. Money is just paper though, so we’re good.

2024.05.13 20:18 150c_vapour first time running half marathon with single sided deafness

Lost my hearing on one side due to covid complications last year. Decided to participate in a run again after almost a year. Running was a bit tough, with the crowd and over-takers. Tried to hug one side, so everything happened where I could hear, but when there's a return stream that was impossible. I also have no vestibular function on that side and end up making a random zig-zag every so often. I'm sure I annoyed a few people but just glad to be healthy enough again to get out and run.
