2024.06.02 01:51 mangroveenjoyer2 My friend keeps saying he might kill himself and a part of me thinks he is actually gonna do it.

I am currently in living out my last few days in University, about to graduate. Unfortunately my friend of 5 years has messed up his exam resits as he did not study and is bound for another 6 months in Uni. He has sent his appeal to the university and will hear back latest this coming Wednesday. On Thursday he is set to join his family on what is meant to be his grad trip, they have shilled out 10k+ on this trip. They are unaware of the circumstances.
My friend here is an alcoholic chainsmoker, prone to addiction as you can imagine. He gratifies himself to short term pleasures and spends his days drinking beers, chain smoking and hooking up with women. I mean 10+ pints a day at times, 2+ packs of cigarettes and multiple girls a week. He deludes himself about the state of his life, saying his appeal will get accepted and how he will get a job in California in software development whereas he has not worked enough for the opportunities and he knows it yet struggles to admit. He struggles to express himself and he's quiet emotionally disconnected/tormented I feel, which is why he is constantly drinking or smoking.
With that said, he is a very prideful yet sensitive guy who has expressed recently about his fear of judgement. He comes from a conservative family and their history has its fair share of complications. One to note would be his own father disowning his daughter for a short period over wanting to leave the family business and pursue other things. There is a lot pressure and my friend here is falling underneath it. He is an impulsive guy.
He is one of my best friends and I love him but he is the least accountable person I know when it comes to his own life and I do not know if he'll be able to face it.
I feel like there is a timer for the next few days for him. I am filled with anxiety. Worried about his every move.
Thoughts?

2024.06.01 18:44 rswolviepool ADHD and intelligence, wasted potential or overestimating myself?

TLDR: Diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, great at my software engineering job, using hyperfocus and critical thinking to my benefit. However, I struggle with the studying and continuous learning aspect despite my passion for the field and the excitement I have at the thought of studying and learning new things. Wondering if others with ADHD face similar challenges and how do you manage them.
Hi everyone, I was recently diagnosed with ADHD at 24 and have always grappled with focus issues, organisation and last-minute studying. Despite these challenges, I've always been passionate about technology and computer science. I've been working as a software engineer, and I believe critical thinking and hyperfocus make me amazing at it. I obviously learn some things along the way, but it's not the same as (aimed) studying or practicing.
However, I find it difficult to keep up with the constant learning required in software engineering, or even just things I want to learn (so much of it). I'm passionate about theory and foundations as well as learning new skills and technologies. While I stay afloat with my current knowledge, I struggle to commit to the regular studying and practice needed to truly improve. Things like principles and theory of technologies or practical application of such knowledge require studying and practice. The very thought of this actually excites me, always has. Even outside of my field. But when I try it in practice, I struggle no matter what the medium.
Studying textbooks or documentation feels like reading words, videos feel like they take ages when I think of everything that I want to cover, I get pulled into rabbit holes and ultimately I'm never able to stay consistent and all that is if I ever actually get started on something.
This disconnect between my passion and my ability to consistently learn is causing me to question my capabilities and if ADHD is a significant obstacle or am I just overestimating myself? Am I just quiting things because I simply don't get them or maybe I'm too lazy to "actually" want to do it? Is it possible that there's wasted potential somewhere behind my ADHD?
Do you experience similar challenges? Is it possible that sometimes even passion and interest are not enough to get in that "ADHD flow" when trying to learn or get better at something?

2024.06.01 17:45 aeeiee Catch the Ghost turns staying off your phone into a game and makes that game addictive (need feedback)

I'm a software engineer and a long-time lurker in productivity subreddits in search of some feedback. I love my friends and family's feedback, but most don't know what a Pomodoro timer is, LOL 😅
I'm super into behavioral psychology, so I made a Pomodoro app using actual peer-reviewed science. I'm also into incentive structures, and game theory, and I read psychology books, listen to psychology podcasts, read studies, and I'm very studied on AI (how to build a mind), etc.
After 6 months of hard work with my small team, we launched Catch the Ghost - Focus Timer on the iOS App Store two weeks ago. It's about 50% done, but the core features are ready, and we update it weekly 🚀 We'll be adding focus session history metrics, reminders, and streaks before the end of the month.
I need some real feedback from caffeine-fueled productivity wizards, so I hope I've come to the right place. I've got 100 free one-month subscription promo codes to share. If you use it and fill out a quick survey, I'll give you a free one-year subscription.
Get a free promo code here. Sorry about the $0.99 price. I'd give it to you guys for free via a promo code as well, but then Apple wouldn’t let you leave a rating or review in the App Store.
Here’s what I’d love to know:
Anyways, even if you don't want to try it out, I'm happy to answer any questions you have or nerd out about behavioral psychology and artificial intelligence. You can AMA and I'm happy to answer any of your questions in the thread.

2024.06.01 14:53 Deep-Oven-2161 My experience switching from the Galaxy S21+ to the Nothing 2a

My experience switching from the Galaxy S21+ to the Nothing 2a
There is a lot of value in buying a used flagship phone over a brand new one. And the S21+ that I've been using these past 5 months only cost me 250 USD in mint condition. That being said, the S21+ (Exynos ver) has brought me quite some grief when using the camera for video.
TLDR: The Nothing 2a is 339 USD compared to the used market for older S22, S21 devices. You get a new battery, competitive performance, cameras, a new OS and cheap enough storage options in the 256GB model.
I don't normally trust "flagship killer" brands: I've recently converted to the Nothing 2a, despite being quite skeptical of "flagship killer" phones after enjoying (and then being burnt) by the Oneplus 1 > Oneplus 3T, Poco F1 > Poco X3. It's normally a see-saw between YES this is amazing to the DAMN this is pretty bad, when using a brand new flagship killer phone. The subsequent releases are almost always bad, followed by worse sequels and price increases as these brands become more commercially successful.
However, I'm pretty pleased to share that the Nothing 2a brings me as much joy as when I first got the Oneplus 1. It is quite a win, and provides decent value and some niceties to boot.
What you will miss when going from the S21+ to Nothing 2a:
  1. Battery charging limit (Samsung phones have a built in charge limit and will stop charging at 85%)
  2. Some useful built in apps (Samsung gallery, notes, Pay, Sound Assistant, Modes & Routines, AOD are good. Other apps and Bixy, not so much).
  3. A more usable Quick Access settings panel And that's pretty much it. Not a long list of things to give up on if you ask me.
  4. Live wallpapers. You can use videos as wallpapers on the S21+. No luck with the 2a.
Nothing 2a's little victories:
  1. SPEED: Switching to a midranger from even an older flagship normally means a big drop in speed or processing power. The Nothing 2a is slightly faster than the S21+ including in games. The addition of Wifi 6 also translates to speedier app downloads and web browsing.
  2. STORAGE: 256GB storage comes in at about 339 USD, bundled with a very sturdy case + a screen protector applicator tool (useful for when you need to replace the glass on your own).
  3. CAMERA Most importantly, the camera picture and video quality is better than the S21+ which is horrendous in low light. In daylight, both phones perform decently. It's no iPhone 13 of course. But if you're coming from a S21+ or older, the Nothing 2a is better, especially for video.
  4. BATTERY: A new battery. Buying new means a fresh battery. The 2a has great battery life and can last about 4-5hrs of heavy use, while the S21+ needs a charge every 3hrs.
  5. SCREEN: The screen is colder in terms of color temperature but is not inferior at all to the Samsung panel. The S21+ has a gorgeous panel for sure, and I was expecting a huge downgrade when coming to the 2a. I'm genuinely surprised by the 2a's brightness and accurate colors.
  6. OS: This brings back cyanogenmod or Oxygen OS memories, but the 2a runs with barely any bloatware. It's fast, but is missing some features like battery protection, a dedicated gallery etc. In return you get Glyph lights.
  7. Ergo: This phone is exactly the same size as the S21+ for better or for worse. Large screen but lighter, and more comfortable to hold. If you want smaller, you're out of luck here however.
  8. Gimmicky Widgets + "wow factor": Phones are really boring, so coming into a new OS just to get some new widgets sounds rather lame, but honestly I had quite a bit of fun with that "new toy syndrome". Particularly with the photos widget, you can put a slideshow of your favorite holiday photos. I liked that but it's certainly no reason to swap phones. The pedometer widget is also pretty cute.
  9. Glyph: The Glyph lights are great for running a pomodoro timer and for keeping you focused (silent mode means a light stays on for essential messages but the phone stays silent and without vibrating). I'm hoping Nothing considers selling their phones with "disconnect/mindfulness" type features where users depend on the lights for notifications or have a tiny display on the back for essential features.
I'm really happy with the Nothing 2a. But only because of price. There's better if you pay more obviously. But I don't want to pay more. For the 339 USD I forked out, I got an all inclusive package with a glass screen protector and case. Normally even with used flagships, it's another 30 or 40 USD to get a case and the other niceties. Not to mention the need for an occasional battery replacement. Nothing sells and assembles the 2a in India, so I am a little disappointed they didn't cram in a 3.5mm jack and microSD card as the Indian market is notoriously tech savvy and demanding.
Old flagships are normally always going to be better value for the SD 8+ or equivalent TOTL chip. But the no-name Dimensity chip performs just as quickly as the S21+ that I am coming from, with better cameras and cleaner software. For anyone coming from that exact model or a Samsung device, maybe this info might be useful for you.

2024.06.01 14:44 mib_81 How do you all organise your Ableton samples and various other sample packs?

I’m new to Ableton and I’m just in the process of installing Ableton Live 11 Suite.
How do you all organise your Ableton samples?
Do you store everything on the internal drive or on a SSD?
I have a Macbook Pro 16” M1 Max, 64GB with 4TB of internal storage. Would it best to store everything on this, including sample packs I’ve purchased elsewhere?
Where do you store new software, VST plugins and virtual instruments?
I have two external Samsung SSD’s. (1TB and 2TB)
Can anyone recommend any good online tutorials for guidance with this?
Thank you!

2024.06.01 14:10 MasterDust888 I used to make Android apps with block-based coding software and I have multiple successful projects right now on Google Play, should I add it to my resume?

First of all, I just finished highschool and going to pursue b tech in CS this year. And about myself, I have already done( or tried at least) courses on Python, machine learning, IoT, web development with Django, cybersecurity etc (tried everything so that I could find my taste lol).
I used to make Android apps using block-based Android development software like MIT App Inventor and Thunkable. Published my first app in 2020 and has around 75k+ downloads so far. And since I have gotten into real programming and tried to get as much hands-on experience as possible in the fields mentioned above. I took two courses on “Python” and “machine learning with Python” provided by ICFOSS ( a government organisation based in Tvm, Kerala) during Covid time and completed a “movie recommendation” AI model as my first project. Took part in developing leaf identification ml model which turned out to give 94% accuracy. They also offered me an internship but I didn’t do it as I had to do my entrance prep and typical high school stuff.
After that, I worked on developing an agricultural drone business model which will help rural farmers to get exposed to utilising drones and promoting modern agricultural practices without actually buying them and submitted my pitch to YIP(Young Innovation Program) but got rejected in the 3rd stage because it needed a much bigger investment and effort to make it happen. Also developed multiple websites using Wix to keep myself engaged in the meantime.
I just wanna know that does all of these make any difference in my career in the tech industry( not personally but in future interviews and stuff) I sometimes doubt whether I will be able to thrive in the industry because I often see posts about guys regret taking CS in this sub and csmajors

2024.06.01 13:17 TheDreadPirateRobots [Have Gun - Will Travel] - 1.8

[INDEX]
I banked the fire and stared into the golden eyes of Beatale before I crept into my makeshift tent.
I still had my auric vision running and couldn’t help but notice the thin silver cord that ran from me to Horse. Firming up my aura, I reached out with my hand and grabbed it. I could feel the nearly imperceptible vibration between my fingers as I used my mind to probe at the thread. I could feel a bright spark of intellect, a light at the end of a tunnel. Pushing with my mind, I slid down the thread until the spark grew larger and eventually filled my inner vision with a hazy white light. Horsey thoughts nudged at me curiously.
I slid into the haze and immediately lost all sense of direction. If it wasn’t for the silver thread, I’d have no idea how to exit this shifting white fog. Horsey thoughts got stronger as I followed the thread while the haze thinned and cleared to reveal an endless prairie of green grass. I found myself standing before a naked man wearing a horse mask and I stared in shock. It was obviously me wearing a cheap costume horse mask — there was no mistaking my tattoos.
“What did you expect?” Horse neighed at me. “I am you and you are me and we are all together. Goo goo ga joob.”
Horse made a shooing motion with his hands and I accelerated backwards through the white haze and slammed into my own body with a gasp. I stared at the tarp overhead for a long minute, processing this new revelation. Horse was a part of me, a piece of my spirit. Whatever psychic stuff I did with that silver cord lead me into a house of mirrors where I got to look at myself pretending to be a horse. I can’t even deal with that right now.
Rolling into my blankets, I dropped off to sleep.
*Ding*
-=- - Welcome to the Dreamworld - Included in the Psychic Skills pack, the Inner Sanctum is your psychic domain. It is the mental fortress that you must secure and maintain to defend against psychic and spiritual assaults. All of your neurosis and fears are symbolised in this realm and must be defeated or subjugated before you can become master of the domain. Good luck. -=-
I banished the pop-up and looked around. I knew I was asleep, but everything was just as real as when I was awake. I was breathing, I could feel the floor under my feet, and if it weren’t for the pop-up, I would have sworn I had been teleported. The room I was in resembled an oversized luxury prison cell, maybe a thirty foot cube. No windows. Rough stone walls with thick mortar. Large brass wall sconces were set directly into the stone and suffused the room with a warm, golden light provided by glowing rocks. The stone floor had colourful Persian rugs tastefully placed. A high plaster ceiling was painted with a rendition of Michelangelo’s ‘Creation of Adam’, depicting me as both Adam and God.
There was a comfy sofa in front of a large screen television that hung from one wall and an ornate grandfather clock ticked loudly in the corner. It was currently 10:08 PM. Another wall was a floor to ceiling bookshelf, stuffed with books of varying sizes. The third wall was covered with pictures and I could see at a glance that they were images from my life. The fourth wall had a thick riveted steel door on the right side, a full sized mirror on the left, and a computer workstation in the middle.
The picture wall was my first target. A few were quite large, nearly life sized, while others were tiny prints no larger than the palm of my hand. Scenes of my life were displayed in each one. The largest was me riding Horse with a shit-scared expression, shooting at a pack of wolves. Others were smaller, each with different frames. Some ornate gold or silver, others plain wood, a few wrapped in briars or barbed wire. Nanny Ramsey holding me as a young child. My dog Jean with a red ball in his mouth. My parents, screaming at me. I turned my attention to the books. Books are safe. Books don’t judge you.
The sweet, musty scent of a used book store filled my nostrils as I drew close to the honey coloured shelves. Hundreds of volumes filled the wall from floor to ceiling, with a ladder that could be rolled along a rail to access the top. I smiled at the sight. I had always wanted a library like this. I pulled a book at random and read the title, “Confused Fantasies about Joseph Harris, part XXIV of the Middle School Years”.
I slid the book back onto the shelf. Let’s see what’s on TV.
The remote was a slim, futuristic looking affair with a minimum of buttons. I pointed it at the television and moments later the huge screen came to life and presented me with a simple menu for movies, divided into six categories: Happy, Surprised, Afraid, Disgusted, Angry, and Sad. I scrolled through the offerings for a minute, reading the titles and reviews about the movies of my life. It really bothered me that there were so few selections in the Happy section.
The number of Sad movies increased by one.
I walked over to the mirror and noticed there was a small sticky note pasted to it. “Astral Realm. Experienced users only.” I shoved the note in my pocket and stared at my image. Sturdy black boots, black denim jeans and shirt with mother-of-pearl buttons, deep brown gun belt slung at my hip, red bandanna and black felt hat. All I needed was a pencil moustache and I would look like the stereotypical villain in any spaghetti western. At that very moment I decided to grow out a goatee. I’d rather be mistaken for a bad guy than a victim.
So how does this astral realm thing work?
The mirror appeared to be nothing more than a mirror. It was cold, smooth glass surrounded by a wrought iron frame, and reflected my image. I didn’t necessarily want to go walking into danger, but I wanted to know how it worked. I pushed and prodded the glass in frustration until I noticed my image grinning at me. I jumped back in surprise and it doubled over in silent laughter.
“Hilarious, dude. You got me,” I huffed. “So how do I get in?”
My mirror-self tipped his hat and stepped to side.
I reached up to the mirror again and my hand passed through, vanishing as if cut off. Okay, just a quick peek and we’ll explore the rest of the room. I stepped through and the world shifted around me. I was standing back at the campsite. My body was insubstantial as a ghost and the tarp was a wisp of substance running straight through me. Non living things don’t seem to have much presence in this realm. Glancing down, I saw my sleeping body rolled up in the blankets, a thin silver thread running from it to me, and another thread running to Horse.
Looking around, I surveyed the campsite. My astral vision seemed to be on and had an unlimited range. I could see the life all around me, the distant forest was a sea of greenish-gold, grasses and brush nearby glowed with spectral light. Tiny ghost insects scurried while ghost mice nibbled at whatever ghost mice nibble on. Ghost seeds and ghost insects, I suppose. I turned my attention overhead and gaped at the sight of a monstrous serpentine spirit flying through the inky void. I dropped back through the tent and rolled inside my body. That was plenty enough for now.
I rolled through the mirror and landed flat on my back, staring at the fresco on the ceiling. Vinnie-God winked at me and Vinnie-Adam grinned. Climbing to my knees, I brushed non-existent dust from my trousers and watched mirror-me doubled over in soundless laughter.
“Hey, laughing-boy!” I yelled at him. “You’re like the guardian or something, right? You got it covered?”
Mirror-me stood and saluted with a smile, then gave me two thumbs up. A moment later, his face took on a serious expression and he wriggled his right hand in the ‘maybe’ motion. Then he pointed at me, tapped his wrist, and then a finger to his head.
It all depends on how fast I learn stuff, I guess.
Two thumbs up and a winning smile reflected back to me.
A large cork board was mounted to the wall over the computer and a small note was pinned to it. “Note to self: Don’t fuck with the Elvish womens.”
The computer screen featured a screensaver of me as Vitruvian Man doing callisthenics over the words ‘HumanOS’. I tapped the spacebar and was rewarded with the sound of powerful fans kicking to life as the computer emerged from sleep mode and prompted me for a password. Should I assume it’s the same as the password on the computer I pawned in my previous life?
Password: *******esi
I was rewarded with a sweet R&M desktop and a couple of icons. System, NeuralNet, My-Tunes, My-Movies, My-Office.
System was just what I expected, lots of .dna files and other confusing scariness that allowed me to tweak my physical body and mental state. My-Tunes was a collection of every song I’d ever heard and My-Movies was a collection of every movie I’d ever seen. Not that I’m complaining, but it would have been nice to have “My-Games” so I could play RDR. My-Office was a clone of the popular software by a similar name. I have no idea what I’ll ever need a spreadsheet for in this world.
NuralNet opened up a search engine called Me-Seeks, featuring a familiar blue guy.
I typed in “beer” and several thousand results were displayed, anything I’d ever read, heard, or watched about beer, including how to make it. This right here made the price of admission totally worth it, access to an exact copy of everything I’d ever read, and I was a voracious reader. Sadly, most of the stuff I read was futurology — solar panels, electronics, biotech advancements, quantum computing. The material for steam engines, blacksmithing, farming and the like, were slim pickings. That’s okay though, I could still reproduce the Gutenberg press, the cotton gin, simple internal combustion engines, and basic batteries along with some sketchy knowledge of metal alloys, acids, bases, and other things I had read over the years. All that wasted time watching “How Things Work” was finally going to pay off. I copied a few likely money makers to My-Office, saved the file, and exported to my Notes, just in case they didn’t exist on Aerth.
A popup covered the screen.

Apparently I could upgrade myself, which reduced the cost of using my Utilities while providing other minor benefits. My Utilities would level up as I used them, which would increase their battery cost, so if I didn’t keep pace with an update to the OS they could become prohibitively expensive to operate.
Stupid pay-to-win world.
So, do I pay 2000 credits for version 2.0 or 5000 credits for version 3.0?
I selected version 3.0 and klicked [Install]. After watching it download the update, it popped up another screen that asked if I wanted to update now, or wait until Midnight for the mandatory update.
I selected [No] just as the grandfather clock chimed 10:30 PM. I wondered if time ran slower in here, because it seemed like I had spent a lot more time on the computer than 15 minutes. Walking over to the imposing steel door, I noticed a bronze key with a thin chain in the lock. There was another sticky note on the door. “Subconscious. Please keep the key with you at all times.”
That’s not scary at all, is it?
I unlocked the door with a loud clunk and pulled it open to reveal a bedroom straight out of some royal castle. I could tell immediately that it had seen better days. The tapestries on the wall were frayed and fading. The canopy over the bed had a few holes in it. A thin layer of dust covered the mantle of a small fireplace set into the wall. There was a window letting in bright sunlight and I moved over to look outside.
I was on the third floor of a keep surrounded by the walls and turrets of a modest castle. A castle that had fallen into serious disrepair. Did this represent the state of my inner mind? One tower was shattered and the curtain wall under it damaged. The lower bailey was full of litter. I could see a few soldiers walking around the allure, keeping watch.
I have people in my subconscious?
Someone behind me cleared their throat.
Whirling, I discovered a familiar old man standing in the door of the bedroom. What was left of his hair formed a white halo around his head, his face was unshaven and covered with several days of growth. He was dressed like a poor and tattered manservant, but carried himself with a dignified air.
“Woodhouse?”
“It’s nice to see the master at home,” He said with a proper English accent. “There are many matters that require the master’s attention.”
“Uh, sure,” I said, hanging the key around my neck and tucking it in my shirt. “And who are you again?”
“Your personal manservant, of course” he said with a slight bow. Walking over to the steel door, he pulled it closed and it locked with a solid thunk. “Master should always keep his inner sanctum closed. One never knows if something nasty will creep in.”
“Thank you, uh, Woodhouse. I’ll remember that,” I said, rubbing the back of my neck. “So what needs tending and how do things work around here?”
He smiled and beckoned me with a white gloved hand. “If master would be so kind as to follow me, I’ll introduce him to the staff and explain the duties and obligations of his domain.”
I’m 99.9% certain that everyone here is just me wearing a mask, so I shrugged and followed Woodhouse out of the bedroom and into the rest of my subconscious.
Five minutes later I was on the ground floor and seated on a shabby throne with the cast of a popular —and probably very copyright protected— animation in front of me. Woodhouse was the head butler and my personal manservant. Pam was the cook and demanded that I start importing sugar and alcohol before she was shushed by Woodhouse. Carol was a maid. Krieger was chancellor and Cyril was the steward. Archer and Lana were in charge of security. Ray was the marshal in charge of everything from the stables to the blacksmith.
I stared in disbelief at the motley crew kneeling in front of me. No wonder my inner mind was in such shambles. I was overcome with an irrational sense of anger at myself.
“Arright, listen up,” I barked, my voice echoing around the room. “I swear to God that I will fire every single one of you and hire circus clowns to replace you if you keep fucking things up. No joke. Circus clowns, got it?”
I ran a hand over my face as Ray pissed himself. “The only reason I’m not putting a boot in your asses right now is because I realise that you’re aspects of me, and the people you represent are pretty damn good at their jobs when they give enough of a shit to actually do them. As a team, you’re dysfunctionally fantastic and always seem to come out ahead no matter the odds.”
Heaving a sigh, I continued. “Things have changed and I need to get my shit together. I’m going to need every one of you to pull your weight and help me help you. Get back to your duties, I’ll meet you one on one later.”
My subconscious caretakers scurried out of the room.
“I’ll have one of the maids tend to the piss,” Woodhouse assured me.
“Never mind that,” I snapped. “I honestly had no idea my mind was such a shit show. I’m very disappointed in myself.” I pictured the Angry, Sad, and Disgusted counters on my personal movies clicking up. “Show me what needs to be done and let’s get started.”
During Woodhouse’s walking tour, everything clicked into place. This was some altered version of Bodiam castle, a location that was on my bucket list of places to visit. The royal council room, located behind the throne room, contained a “living” tapestry on the wall that showed the castle and surrounding land in real time. The castle was located in the middle of a small lake, and a single wood bridge led to the mainland. A small town surrounded the lake and a wall encircled the town. Outside the wall, the land was an irregular patchwork of forest and field, with a stinking swamp to the south. The entire “kingdom” was maybe ten miles across, surrounded by impassable mountains with innumerable creeks that fed the lake which drained into the southern swamp.
“Zombies are the problem, sir.” Woodhouse said, as I surveyed the living tapestry of my mental domain.
“Zombies?” I prompted.
“Yes sir, Zombies” Woodhouse continued. “Nasty bitey things that come in from the mountains and harass the peasants. They’ve gotten especially worse over the last few months. The soldiers do what they can, but they seem to have lost all motivation. Probably because they haven’t been paid.”
“And who pays them?”
“Typically chancellor Krieger is in charge of financial matters, although Steward Figgis has taken over the duty, sir.”
“Then let’s make Figgis our first stop.”
“Very good, sir.”
The office of the steward was run by Cyril Figgis, who managed the kingdom in my absence. It was overflowing with paperwork and charts, books and scrolls piled high on every flat surface. Cyril was desperately attempting to tidy things when Woodhouse and I walked in.
“Yo..you..your majesty,” Cyril stuttered, bowing low. Scrolls fell from his overloaded arms, spilling across the floor. He dropped to his knees and scrambled to gather them up. “I didn’t expect you to visit so soon. Please forgive the mess, housekeeping has been slacking…”
This was the guy who ran things while I was conscious.
“Shut up, Cyril” I said. “You’re responsible for everything in this office. That includes keeping it organised and tidy.”
“Y..yes milord.”
“It’s my understanding that you’re in charge of making sure everyone gets paid. So why aren’t we paying people?” I asked.
“We’re nearly out of Fuks, your majesty. I’ve been saving them for emergencies.”
“Fucks?”
“Fuks,” Cyril explained, pushing a pile of books off a large chest and opening it. Reaching inside he pulled out two small bags and emptied them on top of his cluttered desk. “Gold and Silver Fuks, the currency of the kingdom. I can’t maintain the kingdom when I have no Fuks to give.”
Behold the subconscious kingdom of Vincent J. Carter, it runs on Fuks.
“So how do I get more fuks?” I asked, examining one of the coins. It had an image of me on one side and symbol on the other that could be interpreted as “peace among worlds”.
“You kill the zombies, your majesty.”
Of course I do.
Woodhouse and I left Cyril’s office and headed towards the office of the chancellor where Krieger worked. It seemed that Cyril took over financial matters when Krieger became erratic and proposed luring all the zombies into the city and setting it on fire. Not sure how that corresponds to my own self-destructive behaviour, but I’ve had some dark thoughts over the last couple of months and I’m sure they’re reflected here.
Krieger’s office was much neater in comparison to Cyril’s, but it wasn’t by much. Shelves lined the walls and were filled with an array of questionable items, including a still snapping zombie head in a jar. While the office of the chancellor was supposed to be in charge of financial matters, it looked more like a dodgy rummage sale.
Krieger was launching sword blades at a pig carcass when we walked in.
“What exactly are you doing?” I asked, standing in the doorway.
“Hm? Oh, your majesty!” he said, turning around and bowing deeply. “I’m testing a new invention. It’s a spring loaded hilt that shoots sword blades. Very useful for our soldiers.”
“Stupidest idea ever,” I snapped. “I hate everything about it.”
“Okay,” Krieger said, tossing the hilt into a nearby pile of junk. “But don’t blame me when you need to shoot a sword at a zombie and don’t have one.”
“So why aren’t you managing the financial affairs? Collecting taxes, paying people, stuff like that?”
“Because the population has declined so much none of that matters?”
“What do you mean?”
“Wellll, the population represents things you care about,” Krieger said, going into lecture mode. “And the zombies and other monsters are real or imagined problems in your way. Since you don’t care about too many things the population has shrunk to just what’s needed to keep everything running on the bare minimum of fuks. And since you don’t seem to have any long or short term goals, there’s no need to kill off the zombies and get more fuks. Everything is fine just the way it is.”
“No, it’s not Krieger” I said, grinding my teeth. “My mind is in a shambles. It’s a joke. I want it fixed. No, I want it better than fixed. I want it improved.”
“Oh! I’ve got just the thing for that!” He said, digging around in his pockets, “It’s a spring-loaded hilt that shoots swords!”
Pam and Cheryl were hanging out a gallery window jeering at Archer and Lana sparring in the inner courtyard.
“What the hell are you doing!” I snapped
They whirled in surprise and then dropped into deep curtseys.
“Your majesty!”
I took a deep breath, trying to regain my centre. “Get to work cleaning this place up. Find a room, clean it, and move on to the next. Start with my bedroom, then the throne room and the council chamber, then everything else.”
Cheryl spoke up. “Can’t do it. We got no fuks to clean with.”
“You need fuks to clean?”
“Gotta buy stuff,” Pam said. “Cleaning supplies, food. You wanna eat, you’re gonna have to spend some fuks.”
“Talk to Cyril,” I ordered. “Tell him I said to get you supplied.”
They ran off in the direction of the stewards office.
I watched Archer and Lana bashing each other enthusiastically through the window.
Several minutes later the sparring couple stopped and bowed when Woodhouse and I stepped into the inner courtyard.
“Your majesty”
“My liege”
“Enough,” I said. “If you have enough energy to smash each other, you have enough energy to smash zombies. Tell me what I need to know so I can start gathering fuks.”
Archer shrugged and spoke first. “You just kill the zombies and other monsters. They drop fuks.”
“Anything special about the zombies?” I asked. “Are they fast? Do people get turned into zombies when bitten?”
“Nope,” Lana said, resting her wooden sword on her shoulder. “Most of them are slow shamblers and just need a good wack to the head to kill them.”
“Some are special,” Archer interjected. “Occasionally you’ll have some fast ones, or those that need holy water to kill. They’re just bad memories, figments of your personality that need to be eliminated. Some are worse than others.”
“The zombies are bad memories?” I asked, imagining all the bad memories that I had.
“Memories, thoughts, insecurities, metaphysical mumbo-jumbo,” Woodhouse supplied. “They are endless, but constant vigilance can keep them under control.”
“So let’s get started,” I said. “Lead the way.”
Lana and Archer lead me up to the parapet over the front gate where I looked over at the dozens of zombies milling about aimlessly in front of the entrance to my mind. Pulling out my gun, I began to pick them off, easy as shooting fish in a barrel. The crack of my spell pistol attracted more zombies and I dispatched them with ease until no more were left around the gate. As I fired each shot I could feel some sort of existential energy flowing from me, draining some hidden reserve.
“Gather up the Fuks,” I commanded. “And Lana?”
“Mi’lord?”
“There’s no excuse for this. From now on, I expect the walls to be clear of all zombies.”
“Yes mi’lord,” she said, giving me a small bow.
Turning to Archer, I shook my head. “You’re obviously my personal narcissism, so just try to stay out of Lana’s way, or better yet - try to kill more zombies than her. If you think you can.”
Archer scoffed. “No contest. I took top marks in sharpshooting.”
“That means I should expect to see results by tomorrow. I look forward to it.”
Archer looked panicked for a moment then smiled. “Sure, I can give you results.”
Turning back to Woodhouse I said “Show me what else need attending.”
Woodhouse led me through the town that represented my mind, pointing out each business that had fallen into disrepair, suggested others that needed improvements, and additions that would benefit me. In the distance, I could hear Lana and Archer shooting at the crowd of zombies and with each echoing shot I felt a tiny bit better about everything.

2024.06.01 11:05 itakeyou My experience with OneNote vs. GoodNotes

I should be studying but, hey, here I am. I've been a long-time GoodNotes user, but recently I tried out OneNote for about 2 weeks, and there were definitely things that I liked about it that I hope will get implemented into GoodNotes sooner or later.
1. Infinite Page
By this I don't mean the number of pages. My major requires a lot of mindmapping / flowcharting, and a infinite-sized page is just for that. Even the tabloid page in GoodNotes runs out sometimes, and would be nice if you could just expand the page as you use.
2. Syncing between devices
Yes, GoodNotes does sync between computer and tablet. But I am talking more about live syncing, like in Google Docs. It's good to see that changes are reflected on the devices almost immediately, so if I want to make a written note while typing, this comes in handy.
3. File Organisation
To be honest this is the biggest reason why I have decided to try OneNote in the first place. Although you can still organise notes in GoodNotes, the way OneNote allows you to organise the notes is just a lot obvious and hence faster to navigate through.
4. Typing & Editing
Although I usually don't type much when I make notes, along with the live syncing, I am starting to realise the convenience of being able to type some things down every now and then. The ability to insert shapes (i.e. arrows) and tables also came in quite handy.
5. Free
Most of the time OneNote comes free, and many schools/unis have student subscription available for Microsoft Office apps.
Now there are reasons I won't be switching fully to OneNote entirely anytime soon, mostly because of the writing experience. Frankly I don't think any note-taking software beats GoodNotes in that, and it's just way too smooth.
I hope someday these things will be reflected on GoodNotes as well.

2024.05.31 16:01 Unlikely-Comfort-800 My (32M) wife (32F) likes to play board games without the rules and I find it completely unenjoyable, should we just stop playing board games?

So me '32M' and my wife '32 F' have different interests and struggle to find hobbies to connect on. Early on when we met I organised a board game group which she joined and there used to be an on going joke between members with some light hazing about how she would cheat at games (she literally couldn't stop herself). It was a little frustrating for me and I used to try and police her a little when playing board games but we wouldn't take it too seriously as it was just a games night for fun.
Fast forward four years and we are married and we can't play games together, we tried to play our first game of speed chess tonight and were enjoying the beginning where she was beating me, she ran out of time and after proclaiming she won until we googled the rules I said lets carry on with a new timer to finish the game. Any time she made a move that lost her a piece she would rewind it and make a different move. We finished the game and then I asked her why she feels the need to do this, it led to a semi heated conversation where I asked her why we couldn't just play the game normally and she said she doesn't enjoy it at all, I said it takes all the fun out of a game when I can't even make a move without it being reversed and basically can't ever enjoy a game. I get we are both super competitive but for me I love board games (any games really) but feel as though I can't share that with my wife. And for her she feels like I sap all the fun out of the games by playing my way. Is there anything we can do to enjoy board games or should we just leave the attempts to connect indoors to other types of less competitive activities?
TLDR: Me and My wife have very different takes on playing board games and can't find mutual enjoyment.

2024.05.31 12:04 FancyInvestment397 Bovada Review [Updated 2024]

Bovada Review [Updated 2024]
Bovada is one of the most popular gambling sites worldwide. It has entertained online gamblers in the US since 2011, and is best known for its casino and sportsbook betting. It also has a robust casino offering with one of the largest online live dealer lobbies around.

>>> Get Welcome Bonus 125% up to $3,750
Overall, Bovada has a lot going for it, but one of the things I love most is it has a welcome bonus for all the main attractions hence, no matter which part of the site you use, a bonus awaits. For example, the Welcome Bonus can be used anywhere — in the sportsbook, racebook, or the casino. And, it’s an enticing offer for the casual gambler, it features a 50% match up to $250 with low wager requirements of 5x Sports, 5x Horses, and 30x Casino.
One of the many things that makes Bovada stand out is its Zone Poker feature. It makes the best use of your time by automatically placing you in another game after you fold instead of waiting for the next hand. Now that’s what I call poker efficiency!

Bovada User Interface

Bovada has an easy-to-use interface with a modern sports theme. My first impression vof Bovada is that the organization of the site is well done. For instance, the five main categories — Sports, Casino, Live Dealer, Poker, and Horses are displayed prominently at the top of the screen. Additionally, the navigation menus are across the top of the home page, in a drop-down menu on the right, and in the footer. Search features are readily available for each casino and sportsbook category.
Bovada Interface
TIP: You can be in the sportsbook and play mini-casino games while you wager on your favorite teams. A pop-up box allows you to play casino titles while remaining in the sportsbook.
The help section provides lots of information, but support methods like email and live chat are hard to find. For instance, after clicking on a help topic, a prompt asking if you found what you need appears. If you select NO, a box appears with email and live chat contacts. The user experience would be better if Bovada made the support options easier to find. Another user feature Bovada lacks is the ability to store or mark favorite games for the casino and a place to store live bets.

Bovada Sportsbook

Bovada has live betting, and you can also bet on all the major sports and sporting events, plus an array of niche sports like darts, cycling, and virtual sports. The sportsbook also has political, entertainment, e-sports, and motorsports betting options.
Bovada Sportsbook
There are dozens of sports to choose from, and the popularity of a given sport depends on the time of the year. The most popular sports during their respective regular seasons are baseball, basketball, and American football.
The prop builder and bet slip help you keep tabs on your wagers. You can also customize the calendar feature to see what is currently live, what is available in the next three or six hours, and what is available tomorrow. There were no contests available at the time of my review. However, there are two sportsbook bonuses. You can use them exclusively for sports or combine them with the casino or racebook.
Right now at the Bovada sportsbook, you can play their free Football Runner Game. Players get points by collecting as many crypto coins as they can while running and jumping over obstacles. The more points you score, the higher you progress up the leaderboard. You can win free crypto, free spins, free bets, and the first-place winner each week will receive an $800 Prezzee gift voucher. Entering is free, you simply need to sign up and make at least one deposit. Leaderboards are refreshed each week, so get in on the action during NFL season!

Available Sports to Bet on at Bovada

Bovada has a large selection of sports betting options. As a matter of fact, the site is excellent for a variety of sports, and it has competitive odds. For instance, these betting markets include:

Bovada Betting Types

I found the following bets and limits at Bovada. The betting types are typical of other online sportsbooks like BetUS and BetOnline. Here is a comprehensive overview of what is currently available.
Limits can double for elite games
5 innings for MLB
https://preview.redd.it/o0l9iv7zgq3d1.png?width=1216&format=png&auto=webp&s=98f1f1bb89efba25ec9451ff88a98ec8feb9f20d

Live Betting Options at Bovada

Bovada also features live betting options for those who like to make decisions during the game. All the current events, the scenarios you can bet on, and the odds display on the screen in real-time.
Live betting odds change in real-time, so if you see something you want to bet on, click it and place your wager quickly. Odds can change in a few seconds.
You can add single bets or multiples to the bet slip before confirming. It is a neat feature and allows you to place exotic/multiples. If combining bets to make a parlay, you can get much bigger payouts, but your chances of winning decrease dramatically. You can also place multiple wagers as single bets.
Bovada does not have the option to watch live games at this time.

Bovada Casino

Bovada has 150+ casino games. You can play slots, Hot Drop Jackpots, blackjack, roulette, baccarat, poker, video poker, bingo, craps, and there is a live dealer platform. Popular game titles at Bovada include:
  • Classic Blackjack
  • Golden Buffalo
  • Reels and Wheels XL
  • Golden Buffalo Hot Drop Jackpots
  • 777 Deluxe
  • Blackjack Early Payout
  • 10 Times Vegas
  • Blackjack
  • American Roulette
  • Year of the Rabbit
  • Mythic Wolf
  • A Night With Cleo
Hot Drop Jackpots are progressive jackpot slot games with huge payouts. They are rare – not every online casino offers them, and they have hourly, daily, and super jackpots with a $300,000 payout. One of the great features of Hot Drops titles is the handy countdown timer that tells you when the next jackpot will drop.
The casino uses well-known software providers Rival Gaming, RealTime Gaming, and Revolver Gaming. A brief overview of the game, how to play, rules, wagers, and also pay tables are viewable by clicking on the game. I like that it keeps track of games you play, but a favorites’ marker would be even better.
Bovada has a few unique titles that can be hard to find at other online casinos. During my review, I found the following games:
  • Andar Bahar
  • Teen Patti
  • Pai Gow

Slots

There are 130+ slot titles from software provider Rival Gaming. Many games have free spins, scatter symbols, wilds, and also jackpots. Variations include:
  • Three-reel
  • Five-reel
  • I-slots
  • Progressive jackpots
  • 3D slots
777 Deluxe is a jackpot slot with five reels and three pay lines. One of the features I like about this title is it has a bonus game. To access the bonus game, you need three bonus symbols. Bonus games are fun because they give you an extra chance to pad your bankroll.
One of the other slot titles I tried is 10 Times Vegas. The design is a classic slot game with three reels and three pay lines. I chose it because the idea of winning a large jackpot is exciting. However, I found the gameplay and graphics to be bland. If you like the classic look, then you may enjoy it. But if you’re looking for something more engaging, I suggest trying something like Golden Buffalo Hot Drop Jackpots. It has six reels and four pay lines and features more opportunities to win with multipliers and bonus symbols that can trigger up to 100 free spins.

Table Games

The table game selection at Bovada is impressive compared to other online casinos. I especially like that both welcome bonuses include all the table games except craps. Incidentally, craps are hard to find at online casinos, so Bovada gets extra points for having the title available.
Surprisingly I found 19 table game variations with instructional guides. Bovada has a great selection of table games compared to other online casinos. In addition to classic table games like roulette, baccarat, craps, and poker titles, Bovada also has the following:

Blackjack

I found seven blackjack titles during my Bovada review. There were no specific blackjack bonuses, but there is a comprehensive guide for each title with details on how to play, rules, pay tables, and a glossary. Blackjack is extremely popular among players, accounting for nearly a third of the casino’s total handle.
I tried these popular blackjack games during my review. I especially like the layout Bovada uses. For instance, everything is easily accessible, and the buttons and features are well organized.
  • Classic Blackjack
  • Zappit Blackjack
  • European Blackjack
  • Perfect Pairs

Video Poker

You can choose between four casino welcome bonuses to play the eight video poker games. Each game features instructions, rules, and also pay tables. If you’re new to video poker, the instructional guides are a tremendous help for learning how to play.
I sampled the following 1-hand and 10-hand games:
  • Bonus Deuces Wild 1 Hand
  • Double Double Bonus Poker 1 Hand
  • Jacks or Better 1 Hand
  • Joker Poker 10 Hand

Live Dealer

If you are craving social interaction, Bovada does that too. The casino has a live dealer lobby that is open 24/7 with table limits ranging between $1-$3,000 — so there is literally a budget for every type of player. At the time of my review, there were no eligible bonuses for the live dealer platform. However, Bovada has one of the largest live dealer platforms I have seen when conducting online reviews. There are 40+ tables where you can take a seat!
Here is an overview of what the live dealer platform offers:
  • 32 Blackjack Tables – Table Limits Range Between $5 – $10,000
  • Five American and European RouletteTables – Table Limits Range Between $1-$3,000
  • Two Baccarat Tables – Table Limits Range Between $5-$2,500
  • Two Super 6 Tables – Table Limits Range Between $5-$2,500
There are dozens of live dealer tables to choose from, but Bovada members love their blackjack tables the most. It is the most popular live dealer game among players at this casino.

Bovada Poker Room

One of the things Bovada is known for is its poker room. There are six poker tournament options, a poker welcome bonus for new players, and also stakes to fit all sizes of bankrolls. What is more, you can even download poker for Mac and Windows.
The poker room is compatible with iOS and Android. In fact all you need to do is use the mobile browser on your smart device, and you are ready to play mobile poker.

Above all, Bovada has some excellent tools to help keep your poker game at optimal levels. I found these special features during my review:
  • Chat feature with emojis
  • All-in percentage feature
  • Select your card design
  • Customize your table theme
  • Change seat positions
  • View hole cards from previous hands
  • Instant Heads-Up Rematch
  • Single session player notes
  • Rabbit Cam
  • Hand history re-player

Types of Poker Games

Texas Hold ‘Em, Omaha, and Omaha Hi/Lo are available in the poker room and have the following betting structures:
  • No-Limit
  • Pot-Limit
  • Fixed Limit
Tip: Select Quick Seat Poker after choosing your poker game to be seated at the next available cash game table.

Poker Tournaments

There are six poker tournament categories at Bovada with hundreds of options for tournament play, including a 150K Guaranteed Poker Tournament and a 100K Guaranteed High Roller Tournament every Sunday.

In summary, here is a sample of the many poker tournaments available:

Zone Poker

After you fold, you automatically move to another table with new hole cards. It allows you to play twice as many hands in the same time. Bovada allows two Zone Poker tables to be in play simultaneously.

Jackpot Sit & Go

The Jackpot Sit & Go tournament is ideal for poker players who are short on time and have a low overall buy-in limit. The format is three-player Texas Hold ‘Em, and buy-ins range from $2-$100.
Each player starts with 300 chips. The tournament is available 24/7, and you can play up to four games.

Knockout Tournaments

When you eliminate someone from a Knockout Tournament, their purse credits to your account. Additionally, there are three types of Knockout Tournaments at Bovada:
  • $5 Knockout Tournaments
  • Knockout Sit & Go Tournaments
  • Progressive Knockout Tournaments

Bovada Bonuses and Promotions

Bovada has a great selection of bonuses and promotions, catering to sportsbook, casino and also poker players. Additionally, there is special bonuses for crypto users. One of the things I especially love are the low rollover requirements for the bonuses. Hence this means you have a chance at cashing in at Bovada, even as a casual player or someone with a limited bankroll.

Bovada Sportsbook and Casino Welcome Bonuses

Sportsbook bonuses at Bovada include the choice between two welcome bonuses. Both options apply to the sportsbook, racebook, and casino.

50% up to $250 Sports Welcome Bonus

When you deposit a minimum of $20, you can claim 50% up to $250 of your initial sportsbook deposit. This bonus has just a 5x rollover—one of the lowest on the market. Hence, this is perfect if you are a casual player hoping to get in on the bonus action. Bovada is also offering players a bonus offer of up to $1,000 if they use the promo code BV1000.

75% up to $750 Bitcoin Sports Bonus

If you are a sports fan who likes to use crypto, this bonus is for you. With this offer, you can claim up to 75% of your first Bitcoin deposit up to $750. It also has a 5x rollover—making it easy to cash in.

100% up to $3,000 Casino Deposit Bonus

Casino players can claim 100% up to $1,000 on their first three deposits! To reach the $3,000 total, you must first match a 25x rollover for each deposit. At any rate, this rollover is higher than the sportsbook, but is lower than most competitors for casino bonuses.
To claim on your first deposit, use bonus code: CAWELCOME100. Then, to claim on the following two deposits, use bonus code: BV2NDCWB.

125% up to $3,750 Casino Bitcoin Welcome Bonus

Once again, if you like crypto, Bovada has an even higher offer. You can claim 125% up to $1,250 for each of your first three Bitcoin casino deposits for a grand total of $3,750. However, there is a 25x rollover to claim this as well. Use BTCCWB1250 to activate your first deposit, and then use BTC2NDCWB for the second and third deposits.

100% up to $500 Poker Welcome Bonus

Card sharks can cash in on a 100% up to $500 welcome bonus for the Bovada poker room. To claim this bonus, make a $20 minimum deposit and enter this bonus code: PWB500. The welcome bonus then releases in $5 increments for every 150 poker reward points you earn.

Refer a Friend Promotion

If you refer a friend to Bovada, and they make a deposit, you can earn a 200% match bonus of up to $200. Rollover requirements are as follows for the promotions:
  • 5x Sports
  • 5x Horses
  • 30x Casino
  • 30x Poker
To redeem, the referral must have a successful deposit of at least $20. If the referred person uses cryptocurrency to make their first deposit, you are eligible for an additional $75. However, the crypto rollovers are slightly less for the poker room and casino.
  • 5x Sports
  • 5x Horses
  • 25x Casino
  • 25x Poker

Bovada Loyalty Program

The Bovada Loyalty program assigns points for making sports bets, participating in poker games and tournaments, racebook betting, and playing casino games. The tiered loyalty club points are redeemable for cash bonuses and range from 1–60 points for every dollar spent. Of course, point assignments differ according to the game played, or the wager made.

Mobile Gaming at Bovada

Bovada is compatible with both iOS and Android devices. But a download is not required. Instead, a reliable internet connection is all you need, and you can access the site directly through the browser on your phone.

When I tested Bovada on my smartphone, the pages loaded quickly, and the game selection and sportsbook features were exactly as the desktop version. I especially like the way the live betting section of the sportsbook looked on my phone. Everything was easy to digest even though it’s on a smaller screen. I was also thrilled to see that all of the casino games and the live dealer casino were available for mobile.
Additionally, I was pleasantly surprised to learn all of Bovada’s poker features are available on mobile. You have full access to all of Bovada’s cash poker games, and you can also access the Zone Poker feature—which means you can play games like Texas Hold’Em and Omaha Hi/Lo on your phone. However, I think the thing I like the most about Bovada’s mobile version is you can play poker tournaments. These include the one-table and multi-table tournaments and the series tournaments like Jackpot Sit & Go’s and the Super Millions Poker Open.

How to Download the Bovada App

If you’re looking for instructions on how to download the Bovada online app, we’ve got you covered. As you’ll see in a moment, it’s very simple to get started.
Unlike some other online casinos, the Bovada app doesn’t actually require a download. Instead, it’s all web-based. Thanks to this, you don’t have to worry if you’ve got enough space on your smartphone or tablet for the software.
To begin using the Bovada app, simply visit the main Bovada website on your web browser. Once there, you’ll be able to open an account and make your initial deposit. Once those steps are done, you’ll be ready to start betting on sports and online casino games from the palm of your hand using a tablet or smartphone. One of the other perks of the Bovada online app not requiring a download is it makes it practically universal across device brands and types. No matter if you’re using the Bovada iPhone app or the Bovada Android app, you should be able to enjoy everything Bovada has to offer as long as your device isn’t more than a few years old.

Bovada Banking Options

Banking methods at Bovada include credit cards, cryptocurrency, digital wallets, player transfers, vouchers, Check by Courier, Match Pay, bank wire, and Zelle. Accordingly, the deposit and withdrawal fees vary. For instance, the first credit card deposit is free, but subsequent fees are 15.9% or more, depending on the card. Vouchers, cryptocurrency, and player transfers are the only banking methods with zero fees.
Cryptocurrency banking is free and fast. Deposits are available almost instantly, and withdrawals are available within 1-24 hours. Bitcoin is the most popular crypto option, with over 90% of crypto members choosing it as their payment method.
Payout times also vary greatly depending on the method you use. Times can range from 1 hour up to 15 days. For example, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, Ethereum, USD Tether, and Litecoin payouts are in your account within one hour after approval. In contrast, check by courier and wire transfer payouts take 10-15 business days. If you use a voucher, there is a 24-hour processing time before you receive your code.

Bovada Customer Support

Bovada has a live chat feature, email, and a help center. The help center is a great tool for finding quick answers, but if you cannot find what you are looking for or need more details—the fastest method is live chat. Email responses take up to 48 hours.
I used the chat feature to ask a question about the live dealer platform and then received a prompt reply. But the chat and email support options are not easy to find. They are in the help center. To access it, select a topic and scroll to the bottom of the page. Finally, you will see a prompt that says, did you find what you were looking for? Then, if you select No, email and live chat support appear.
  • Live chat is the quickest way to contact Bovada. To use the chat feature, you must visit the help center, select any question, and scroll to the bottom. Reply No to “Did you find what you were looking for?” A contact box appears with a chat and email instructions.
  • Emails can be sent to service@bovada.lv and are answered within 48 hours.
  • The help center features many topics. It also has how-to videos and a Bovada Community where you can share feedback and interact with fellow Bovada users.

Safety & Security at Bovada

Bovada is a safe and secure site. It has been online since 2011 and has reputable software providers with years of casino gaming experience.
  • Bovada uses SSL encryption to protect sensitive data.
  • Its license is with the Curacao Gaming Authority.
  • It uses Know Your Customer policies (KYC) to verify account information.
The KYC practice ensures account validity and helps prevent others from accessing your account and banking credentials. The process requires you to answer security questions and receive a confirmation email.

Final Verdict

Bovada is a diverse site with something for every type of gambler. I love the poker room tournament options, the casinos progressive jackpot selection, and the live betting in the sportsbook. Above all, Bovada has hard-to-find titles like Teen Patti and Craps.
The Sports Welcome Bonus is excellent for people that like variety without over-extending their bankroll. Its a 50% match up to $250 and is also available in the sportsbook, on the horses, or in the casino.
Bonuses for returning players and the navigation for customer support need to be improved, but overall, Bovada is a great entertainment platform.

2024.05.30 22:33 TALAESIN First time building a PC. I have some idea of what to do but I’d like some input.

First things first, here’s the build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qzbqz6
Thoughts? I gave myself a $6000 limit, but I still thought I’d go with what the internet seemed to believe was top-shelf stuff. I intend to use this pc primarily for, in no particular order: AutoCAD, Revit, 3ds Max, Navisworks, ReCap Pro, Maya, Lumion, hopefully to learn UE5, also for SketchUp. Is my build extreme overkill? I know for a lot of these programs it certainly is, but does anything in this list justify the components I bought? I kind of got traumatized by Lumion a while ago after I upgraded to a newer version without realizing my gaming laptop would barely meet the most basic requirements. The idea with getting the “best” I could find was to try to make sure no updates will require hardware upgrades for a long long while.
I’ll be putting it together this weekend. So far I’ve only received from people I know two pieces of advice: work on a wooden surface, and touch some metal before starting to get rid of static, especially before handling the CPU. Beyond that, I’m guessing I just have to read and re read all of the manuals, work slowly and carefully, don’t over-tighten screws, don’t apply too much pressure when inserting stuff, etc. Does that all sound right? Any additional advice or suggestions?
I imagine I have to install the CPU, the memory cards and the SSD on the motherboard in that order before putting the motherboard inside the case, correct? And then put the GPU in after? Probably a good idea to get all the fans and the PSU screwed into place before putting the motherboard in I’m guessing. I’m not too clear on how to connect everything to everything else, but I’m hoping the manuals will clear that up.
For airflow, I was going to make the bottom and side fans intake and the top and back fans exhausts (there are no front-facing fans) does that sound right to you? I kept hearing that CPUs can get super hot, and that that went double for the one I got, which is why I went with 10 x 120 mm fans, 3 of which are part of the AIO cooler for the CPU, which I was lead to believe was better than air cooling. Has anything I said so far set off any red alerts? Have I been ridiculous in the stuff I got for what I’m gonna be using this for?
My biggest fear has been the CPU and the GPU overheating.
Having said all that, as un-confident as I feel with the hardware installation, I’m even less confident with the software. I don’t know how many different softwares I need to worry about, I kept seeing that the motherboard has one, then I have to install the OS, then the fans apparently require software too? Does the memory? The SSD? Do I do whatever the fans need software wise before or after installing the OS? Does the motherboard’s BIOS firmware do everything for me? Does that need to be installed somehow or is it pre-installed?
I’m guessing a lot of those questions will answer themselves once I actually start putting the thing together, or at least I hope they do.
I’m essentially looking for general first timer advice and checking to see if I’m doing or about to do something that could cause me issues big or small later on, so if anything jumped out at you, by all means let me know. That was all, thanks!

2024.05.30 21:52 notABadGuy3 [Question] Server repeatedly crashing

I am trying to run a paper server on my raspberry pi 5, when it works it works well and I have been able to have the server running fully overnight for at least 12+ hours. However, to get to that point it seems to struggle to start up. See below for typical logs.
I am using a service to start the server automatically so these logs are generated from the journal.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

2024.05.30 19:14 ANoobSniper A mod message regarding witch-hunting (and our policy regarding user screenshots going forward)

It has come to the mod team's attention that there is an ongoing witch-hunting campaign against certain members of the KF2 community, and that this subreddit had previously been used to spread this witch-hunt campaign by their organisers. With the surge in player popularity recently due to the mega-sale last weekend (and thus, chances of someone being exposed to it), the mod team thus feel we need to address this issue now.

What happened?

We cannot reveal much information about this campaign to protect the identities of those affected by it, but we can reveal this:
  • The campaign revolves around several members of the KF2 community, who are the targets of several accusations of a highly defamatory nature;
  • The campaign had since devolved to the point where their ringleaders are making a call to their followers to locate the exact place of residence of the accused (aka, doxxing);
  • These accusations are primarily hosted on the ringleaders' personal website, although some of these accusations have also been made on the subreddit itself.
We have since removed these claims from the subreddit, as well as permanently banning those involved in the campaign from the subreddit, and blacklisting any links to their personal website due to their role in inciting hate and witch-hunting.

How does this affect the subreddit?

This campaign is an example of witch-hunting - behavior in which users attempt to enact justice by 'naming and shaming' those accused to be involved in a certain event, or engaging in certain behavior. However, there is a high possibility that these accusations are outright false in the first place, or that any such investigations from such a witch-hunt result in a false-positive conclusion generated - resulting in those accused being wrongfully attacked by an internet mob and being powerless to stop it.
If you need further proof that such behaviour is a bad idea: the internet is full of instances where internet witch-hunts wrongfully shamed someone, leading to disastrous results for those accused. (Yes, Reddit included.)

In the case of the above incident in particular: Based on the mod team's investigations, we have come to a conclusion that this issue is much, much more complex than what is publicly known at the moment - far beyond what any member of the public is aware of with to come to a properly-informed conclusion, and far beyond anyone in the mod team is properly equipped to deal with.
Reddit cannot enact justice. But Reddit can confuse narratives, and that's what we want to prevent from occurring, as much as we can. Hence, any attempts to incite a witch-hunt - be it within the KF community, or otherwise - will not be tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly.

As another measure to prevent any further cases of witch-hunting within the sub, we are also announcing the following sub-rule change, as part of our existing "Be Civil" rule:
  • All images/screenshots (in-game, Discord, Steam Community, etc) posted here going forward are required to obscure any users' identifying info present (unless said info belongs to the poster of the image, had permission from those involved, or is in the context of an official/dev-made announcement). This can be done easily using Paint, GIMP, or any other basic image-editing software.
No further discussion about the harassment campaign will be allowed on the subreddit itself. Any questions are to be directed to our modmail instead.

2024.05.30 17:37 9aouad Hybrid cloud, open source and data sovereignty

Ok. I have very limited background regarding cloud computing (only started reading about the topic 3 weeks ago).
My end goal is to determine to what extent an entity can build a sovereign cloud (aka with local datacenters, managed by a local provider) while completely staying clear from hyperscaler and propriatary solutions (AKA only using Open Source stuff).
I know a lot of hyperscalers are selling "sovereign cloud" solutions but I would never trust hyperscalers with sensitive data.
Please bear with me as this is very theorotical.
Let's start with the basics :
Let's assume I manage to find a local cloud provider who is capable of building a full Open Source private cloud solution (hypervisors, service containers, DevOps, Marketplace, billing services, Big Data processing etc) Literally everything.
The private cloud would be hosted locally, more likely within the provider data centers. Several entities/organisations would be able to access it (I manage who). I want to have full control over applications, data, middleware os and runtimes (so an IaaS solution)
Hybrid Cloud
From my understanding, a hybrid cloud is a combination of public cloud from a (generally) hyperscaler such as AWS or Microsoft and a private cloud.
1) Can I "link" the full open source private cloud I built and described earlier to an hyperscaler public cloud? How is it achieved? (in simple terms)
2) What are some use cases where I would benefit from a public cloud?
I'm thinking about needing the extra storage or calculation power for whatever I'm trying to do that my private cloud can't handle but am I not automatically screwed because my sensitive data is being processed through hyperscaler networks/services?
Finally, I'd be interested to know about the barriers/hardships people deal with when trying to implement full open source cloud solutions. I'm thinking about solutions/softwares being harder to use/implement than hyperscaler stuff? I would love to hear any personal stories/experiences.
Thanks a lot!

2024.05.30 14:00 RealDevoly Weird Performance Drops with RX 6900XT and RX 7800XT

Hey Guys! Hope someone can help me.
Two friends of mine (one with a RX 6900XT and the other one with a RX 7800XT) are experiencing the same Issue in Games, mostly CoD MW3/WarZone.
Both their GPUs were totally fine for like the first months of usage and after some time they both experienced the Issue that the FPS are dropping down to roughly 60 FPS from normally 150 FPS in Case of WarZone and MW3. From the moment of the first drop on the FPS are low with some Dips back into the normal FPS.
Both GPUs are temporarily fixed with downgrading, then upgrading the Radeon Software. But the next day when they are starting their PC, the FPS are starting to drop again. Happens over and over.
Stutters/Low Usage > Down-/Upgrading Driver > Temporarily Fixed > Starting PC the next day > Stutters/Low Usage > .....
I already tried several "fixes" like:
-Fresh Install of Radeon Software
-Disabled High Precision Event Timer
-Disabled AMD Low Power State
-Disable/Enable Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling
-Disable/Enable all kind of Gaming Modes in Windows
-Disable/Enable some of the Radeon Features like Chill, AntiLag, etc.
-and some more i cant remember right now
Information about the Systems:
RX 7800XT PC: Ryzen 7 5900X (No OC), MSI B550 A-Pro, 32GB 3200 CL18 Dual Kit RAM (XMP Activated), 2x 1TB m.2 SSD, Seasonic Focus GX 650 PSU. Using 1080p Monitor, Twitch Streaming and Gaming.
RX 6900XT PC: i5 13600kf (No OC), Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite DDR4, 32GB DDR4 3600 CL18 Dual Kit RAM (XMP Activated), 2x 1TB SSD, Corsair RMe 750W PSU. Using 1440p Monitor, only Gaming.
In my opinion its weird that two "very" different PCs are having the same Issue. Im pretty clueless at the moment and my next Step would be to give the PCs a fresh windows install. Maybe someone has an Idea to fix it.
Sorry for my english if it's bad. :)
EDIT: The low FPS come with low GPU Usage. Forgot to mention that. ^^

2024.05.30 11:43 Mourndark Using Obsidian for time tracking

I'm a freelance software engineer and in my daily notes currently, I have a table at the top where I can list the clients I worked for that day, and how many hours I worked for:
Client Hours Description
[[Client A]] 2 Finish test cases
[[Client B]] 3 Message bus research
[[Client C]] 2 Fix login bug
This works great for organising my time and makes juggling clients much easier, but when I want to invoice people at the end of the month, I have to manually count up the hours from that month's daily notes.
What I'd like to do is in my monthly note have another table that automatically adds up the hours for each client (with Dataview perhaps?), but I can't figure out how to query the data in my tables. I could put the times the frontmatter, but that feels like it would get out of hand very fast with multiple clients.
Any ideas?

This seamless integration of voice user interface Imagine being able to manage your entire digital life with just your voice. For instance, while preparing breakfast, you can ask your device to read out the day's schedule, send a quick email, or even order groceries—all without touching a screen or pressing a button.
This seamless integration of voice user interface into everyday activities not only streamlines tasks but also supports users with varying needs and abilities, ensuring everyone can navigate the digital world with ease.
Voice UI is not just a tool; it's a gateway to a more connected and accessible digital experience, opening up new possibilities for how we interact with technology in our daily lives. Whether you're driving, cooking, or even getting ready for the day, Voice UI is there to assist you, making technology work for you in the most natural way possible.

How is Voice UI impacting UX design?

https://preview.redd.it/vi4i6ra22j3d1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d719eadc66c14dfcb8130b1b2584965cde55fd0f
Let's delve deeper into the various aspects of how voice user interface is impacting UX design-

Enhancing User Convenience

Voice UI excels in providing a hands-free and eyes-free interaction mode, which significantly enhances user convenience. This is particularly useful in scenarios where users are physically occupied or visually impaired.
For example, while cooking, a user can simply issue voice commands to set timers, play music, or even search for recipes without ever needing to touch their device. This level of interaction promotes a seamless digital experience that traditional interfaces struggle to provide.

Promoting Accessibility

One of the most compelling advantages of Voice UI is its ability to make technology accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities. It breaks down barriers that traditional user interfaces pose, offering-
  • Inclusivity- Individuals with limitations like reduced mobility or vision impairment find Voice UI particularly liberating as it allows them to interact with devices effortlessly.
  • Universal Design- Voice UI design adheres to the principles of universal design, ensuring that devices are usable by all people in various situations without the need for adaptation.

Streamlining Efficiency

Voice UI significantly speeds up user interactions, making tasks like navigating apps or making purchases faster and more efficient than traditional methods.
For example, instead of manually searching for a flight and entering details, you can simply say, "Book a flight to New York for next Friday," and have all the relevant options presented to you almost instantly.
This not only saves time but also reduces the mental effort involved, allowing you to focus on other important tasks without getting bogged down by cumbersome processes. Integrating such efficiencies through web development services enhances user interaction and overall digital experience.

Increasing User Engagement

https://preview.redd.it/7s6ozck52j3d1.jpg?width=5000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8da8800a593dd0cb90727321ba4366b60335ac49
Voice user interface design transforms user interactions from simple commands into engaging, conversational experiences, making digital interactions feel more personal and dynamic. Instead of remembering and typing specific commands, users can speak naturally, using everyday language.
For instance, you might ask your smart home system, "What's the weather like today?" and receive a response as if from a friend, such as "It's chilly outside—better grab a jacket!"
This conversational feedback from voice-driven applications adjusts according to user inputs, creating responses that are not only pertinent but also contextually informed.
This shift makes interacting with devices feel less like issuing commands and more like chatting with a human, enhancing the overall user experience.

Facilitating Emotional Connections

A voice user interface enables devices to respond in more human-like, emotionally intelligent ways, which can create deeper connections between users and technology.
For instance, a mental health app can use voice interactions to offer support, recognizing the user’s emotional state through the tone of their voice. If a user sounds stressed, the app might respond with calming suggestions or offer to play soothing music.
This ability to respond empathetically can make digital experiences feel more supportive and understanding, enhancing user trust and emotional engagement.

Enhancing Contextual Awareness

Voice UI systems equipped with contextual awareness can deliver highly personalized user experiences by understanding the environment or situation the user is in.
For example, a voice-enabled car navigation system can detect when you're driving in heavy traffic and suggest an optimal route or provide real-time traffic updates without being prompted.
This proactive approach not only saves time but also adds a layer of personalization that anticipates the user's needs based on their current context, showcasing the powerful capabilities of the voice user interface in web development.

Improving Error Handling and Recovery

Voice UI significantly enhances the user experience by improving how systems handle and recover from errors. Traditional interfaces often leave users frustrated when errors occur, but Voice UI can offer immediate assistance to correct misunderstandings or misheard commands.
For instance, if a voice command to "Play Beatles" is misinterpreted as "Play beetles," the system can ask for clarification: "Did you mean to play music by The Beatles?" This interactive approach to error recovery keeps the conversation flowing smoothly and minimizes user frustration, making the overall experience more seamless and enjoyable.
As Voice UI technology continues to evolve, its impact on UX design promises to deepen further, offering more innovative ways to meet user needs and exceed their expectations. A software development company plays a crucial role in this evolution, driving the integration of advanced Voice UI features into digital products.
Conclusion
Looking forward, the role of Voice UI in digital experiences is poised to grow even more. Scrum Digital is at the forefront, helping businesses navigate this transition.
By incorporating Voice UI, companies are not just keeping up with technology trends; they are setting new standards in user experience, making every interaction more intuitive and impactful.
With Scrum Digital’s innovative solutions, businesses are equipped to lead in a voice-first digital landscape, transforming how they connect with customers across the globe.
