The Haunted Hairpiece

2024.06.09 03:09 I_Am_Dixon_Cox The Haunted Hairpiece

Hannah's hunt for a Halloween costume led her to an obscure vintage shop, "Ethereal Elegance," hidden in the heart of her town. The shop's sign was weathered, its paint peeling like ancient skin. Inside, the air was thick with dust and the scent of old leather. Shelves lined with antique curiosities beckoned her deeper into the dimly lit store.
Among the faded dresses and tarnished jewelry, one item stood out—not for its glow, but for its quiet elegance. It was an intricately designed hairpiece adorned with delicate lace and tiny, intricate pearls. Despite its age, it was in perfect condition, almost as if it had been waiting for her.
The shop owner, an old woman with piercing eyes and a voice like crumpled paper, watched her with an unsettling intensity. "That piece has a history," the woman croaked, her gnarled fingers clutching the counter. "Are you sure you want it?"
Hannah, intrigued by the hairpiece's delicate beauty, shrugged. "What kind of history?" she asked, half-expecting a mundane tale of previous owners.
The old woman sighed deeply, her eyes narrowing as if deciding how much to reveal. "It's a tragic tale, filled with jealousy, betrayal, and death," she began, her voice dropping to a whisper. "It once belonged to a woman named Helena, a Victorian-era socialite known for her beauty and charm."
"Helena was the envy of many, but none more so than her closest friend, Marguerite," the shop owner continued. "Consumed by jealousy and dark desires, Marguerite sought the help of a notorious occultist, Victor Blackwood, to curse Helena. The curse was cruel and insidious. Helena's life began to unravel. Her beauty faded, her mind fractured, and she was haunted by nightmarish visions. Desperate to escape, Helena sought solace in death, hanging herself with the very hairpiece that had once been her pride."
The old woman paused, her eyes glistening with a strange light. "But death did not bring peace. Her spirit, twisted by the curse, remained bound to the hairpiece, a vengeful wraith seeking revenge on anyone who dared to wear it."
Hannah raised an eyebrow, a skeptical smile playing on her lips. "Oh really? A cursed hairpiece?" she said, her tone mocking. "Isn't that a bit clichéd?"
The shop owner did not smile. "Believe what you will," she said. "But Helena's spirit remains bound to it, seeking revenge on anyone who dares to wear it."
Despite the chilling tale, Hannah's skepticism remained. "I'll take it," she said, her voice firm.
The shop owner gave her a long, searching look before wrapping the hairpiece in faded silk. "Be careful," she warned. "Helena's spirit is restless."
Hannah left the shop, her prize in hand. At home, she couldn't resist trying it on. As she fastened the hairpiece to her head, a chill ran down her spine. She felt a slight pressure, as if unseen hands were adjusting it. The room seemed to darken, the shadows growing longer and more menacing. She shrugged off the sensation, attributing it to nerves.
That night, as she prepared for bed, Hannah placed the hairpiece on her dresser. She was about to turn off the light when she noticed a shadow move across the room. Heart pounding, she turned back to see the hairpiece slightly tilted, as if it had been touched. Dismissing it as a trick of her imagination, she went to bed, but sleep eluded her. Whispers filled the room, unintelligible yet insistent, ebbing and flowing like a distant, sinister chant.
The following days were a descent into madness. The whispers grew louder, the words still unintelligible but filled with malice. Hannah began to see fleeting glimpses of a ghostly figure in the mirror—an ethereal woman, her face obscured by darkness, her eyes two hollow voids. The hairpiece seemed to move on its own, always appearing in different places around the house. One night, Hannah woke to find it on her pillow, mere inches from her face.
Desperate, Hannah returned to Ethereal Elegance, but the shop was gone. In its place was a vacant, crumbling building, its windows boarded up and the door hanging off its hinges. Inside, the dust lay thick and undisturbed, as if no one had been there for decades.
Terrified, Hannah tried to destroy the hairpiece. She burned it, drowned it, and buried it, but it always returned, unscathed and dripping with malice. The hauntings intensified. Helena's presence was no longer a mere shadow. She manifested fully, a grotesque specter of malice, her ghostly hands reaching out for Hannah. Each night, Hannah felt herself growing weaker, her life force seemingly drained by the vengeful spirit.
In a final act of desperation, Hannah sought out a local medium, Madam Seraphina, rumored to have dealt with dark spirits. Seraphina's parlor was filled with the scent of incense and the glow of candlelight, the air thick with mysticism. She listened to Hannah's story, her eyes narrowing with recognition.
"This spirit is bound by a curse most foul," Seraphina said. "We must confront it head-on."
That night, Seraphina performed a cleansing ritual in Hannah's home. As she chanted in a language long forgotten, the hairpiece trembled violently, emitting an unearthly wail. The spirit of Helena appeared, her face contorted with rage and sorrow. Shadows writhed and twisted around her, the room growing colder with each passing second.
"You cannot be rid of me!" Helena's voice echoed, a chorus of torment and fury. "I am bound to this world by the blood and betrayal of Marguerite!"
Seraphina's chants grew louder, her voice a beacon of light in the darkness. With one final, ear-piercing scream, Helena's form disintegrated, and the hairpiece crumbled to dust. The oppressive atmosphere lifted, the house feeling lighter than it had in weeks.
Exhausted but relieved, Hannah thanked Seraphina and returned to her now peaceful home. Yet, as she climbed into bed, she noticed a single pearl from the hairpiece on her pillow. Her heart froze as the whispers began anew, more menacing than ever.
Helena's curse was not so easily broken.

2024.06.09 02:37 kerempengkeren Where can I get Coober Pedy Opal jewelry around Adelaide?

Looking for a gold ring with Opal for my wife for our anniversary, seeking recommendations of trustworthy and non-scammy jewelry vendors around Adelaide.
Hopefully with a catalog or a website to see if it fits my budget.
Anyway, is it possible to refit the ring later after purchasing? I'd like an element of surprise but I don't really know my wife's finger size.

I then transitioned to a broad spectrum of skills acquired through the passion of game creation on Roblox - Formerly a Lead Developer for an indie game studio known as '[studio]', which was a project known for creating fun games for children, that gathered 1 million group members, and over 75 million game plays through a platform known as Roblox. These games generated a collective $70KUSD over the course of their popularity combined (20% of revenue was cycled back as advertisement funding). Through this community that was developed, we were able to raise over $6.5KUSD to help fund small indie projects from other smaller development groups. - Among many other games I created music for, one in particular is worth noting: 'Doors', amassing 4.9 Billion plays since 2021, has reached the screen of nearly every kid that is playing video games today. - Collaborated with popular online celebrities (YouTube, TikTok) on making games and experiences for their communities, some of which have billions of views and millions of followers. - I am a contributed developer to other popular games and projects with 2.6 Billion collective plays. (of which I did 3D & 2D graphic design for), a game with ~800M plays, created by a studio known as BIG Games, which is the highest grossing development group on the platform. I connected to these groups and Studios through the Roblox Dev Forum, a company known as "Hidden Developers", Twitter, and my personal website. Through these projects, I nurtured my passion to create, and developed several solo passion projects for my own personal enjoyment. - Bug Tested various other games over several years, solving issues for experiences that went on to have hundreds of thousands of concurrent players. I am also a former member of the Official Roblox QA Team (before it was disbanded), which tested upcoming features to the platform. I have since been very active on their Developer Forum, helping all creators (young and old) solve issues and create awesome games. - Although my game development has slowed, I am currently working on a large game that will show the hardship of Schizophrenia and Social Outcasting through intricate storytelling. I intend to release this game on multiple platforms, such as Steam. - Created a Roblox Plug-in that detects Backdoors and vulnerabilities within games, preserving user data and game integrity. This plug-in has been used by nearly 300 developers thus far. - Created my own file syncing program using C++ via Visual Studio Code, that analyzes computer folders for identical information and can delete it or sync data from one folder to another (if not identical). This program has been used by my friends, but I did not publish it online. - Created a Discord Bot with custom commands for the Interbyte Studios Community server (18k members). This application allowed the community to interact and have a recreational token and minigame system for engagement and bonding. This bot was initially created in Python, but was then completely revamped in Javascript via Node.js (with some minor html for some special features.) - Created a customized theme for Canvas and Roblox using the "Stylish" extension, coded in CSS. - Utilizing BetterDiscord, I created my own lock screen for the Discord application to protect my computer from siblings and/or any environment I am working in. This came with a customized theme among other features, such as a built-in Spotify controller (play/pause, skip, and tuning into what others are listening to), and it synced up with my Discord Bot in my own server, allowing me to see the statistics (account age, user ID, etc.), and possible rule infractions of a given user within the community. This was coded in Javascript (Node.js), CSS, and HTML (for embedding purposes). This served to speed up the moderation and disciplinary side of my community, but also improve the efficiency of the Discord application.

In essays I hope to write about my aspirations to create The Iron Giant and how Robotics is an art. I am also planning to write about how my downfall in Freshman and sophomore years re-shaped the way a school district functions forever, and my recovery and discovery of ambition.
I'd like to know what colleges would accept me (I really want a shot at T30 or so) and what would be good for me. I would also appreciate any and all advice.

2024.06.09 01:37 brazilianfob Watch Display in Milan

Watch Display in Milan
Passed by this watch store in Milan after I left the AP exhibit and have some mixed feeling regarding whether they’re real or not.
For starters, the store is located near Corso Venezia and Via Monte Napoleone (where all the designer stores are as well as all the watch boutiques), and the store seemed to be a high-end jewelry store, so it seems legit.
My only concerns, however, besides the clear “custom” daytona on the top left, is that some of these watches seem too rare or expensive to be simply put on a street view display (saw these from outside the store).
Snapped some quick photos (not super great quality) as I had to get going to another appointment but am pretty intrigued if anyone has any clarifications
Cheers

2024.06.09 01:15 vicker1980 Swans Deep Dive, Vol. 8: Blood, Women, Roses (1987)

Swans Deep Dive, Vol. 8: Blood, Women, Roses (1987)

SUMMARY:

  • Rating: 7.5/10
  • Favorites: “The Man I Love”, “One Thousand Years”, “Blood on Your Hands”
  • Least Favorites: “Come Out”, “Red Rose”

REVIEW:

Six years after his debut EP with Circus Mort, Michael Gira finally branched out into his first project outside of Swans since the band’s inception… welcome to The World of Skin! This Jarboe-led outing has mixed results, but it reaches some incredible heights. Blood, Women, Roses introduces itself with the shimmering strings of “One Thousand Years”, which soon soars into an achingly beautiful lament. Ambiguous lyrics of existential regret are brought to life by a wonderfully dynamic vocal performance, – the first of many that Jarboe will provide across this record, – accenting the steady buildup of melancholic orchestration. In my last review, I praised Jarboe’s vocal debut “You Need Me” as the very first trace of genuine beauty in Swans’ catalog, but “One Thousand Years” is full-on gorgeous, and it shows that this album is the first indication of the transcendence that Gira & Friends will later reach. But this wouldn’t be a 1980s-era Swans-related release without at least an undercurrent of unease, which the next track fully embraces. The first of the album’s two covers of vintage popular standards, “Cry Me a River” features a cavernous mix filled by murky layers of ambiance and punctuated with unorthodox sound design, making for an intriguingly dour interpretation of Arthur Hamilton’s 1953 classic. This ominous spaciousness continues throughout the album’s first half, with the accusatory “We’ll Fall Apart” being decently interesting despite starting to seem a little formulaic, while the darkly intimate “Still a Child” is a more effective track thanks to the minimal instrumentation that brings Jarboe’s emotiveness to the forefront. The second half of the album is a toss-up between the record’s best and worst tracks, starting with the lackluster “Come Out”. Driven by an annoyingly persistent drum machine, this song comes off as a poor man’s version of Swans tracks like “Time Is Money (Bastard)” and “A Screw (Holy Money)” that better utilize this repetitive song structure and percussive production. The other below-average song is “Red Rose”, which – in spite of its intriguing soundscape of twinkling chimes and resonant bass – leans so far into its attempt to sound spooky that it comes off as disingenuous and boring. The other two tracks on this side of the record, though, make a far bigger and more positive impact! “Blood on Your Hands” is a wonderful closer, a bittersweet anthem of ambiguous intent driven by one the catchiest melodies I’ve encountered in any of these projects yet. The production is straightforward, with elemental drums and an omnipresent organ chord making room for the strangely soothing refrains to float over the mix like a warm cloud. Despite the loveliness of this final song, though, I think the album actually peaks a couple tracks earlier. Never in a million years would I have guessed that a Swans-adjacent cover of a 1924 showtune by George & Ira Gershwin would become one of my favorite songs, but here we are. I honestly can’t write any sort of description that does it justice, but the way the nostalgic chords and yearning melody of this composition fit so well with Jarboe’s passionate delivery and Gira’s ethereal production that it feels like a cosmic alignment. I’ve probably listened to this track almost twenty times, so its magic might wear out on me relatively soon, but I’ll always be happy that it even exists! Like I mentioned near the beginning of this review, though, I think this album ends up as a bit of a mixed bag despite its handful of incredible tracks. If half of the album’s runtime was more than merely passable, then the heights it occasionally reaches could’ve made it a truly great album. Unfortunately, that simply isn’t the case, so I’ll have to cap this rating at a 7.5 out of 10.

2024.06.09 00:09 7101334 Galactic Hub Summer 2024 Update

Greetings, interlopers! After a sleepy winter season and a lazy spring, the Galactic Hub is waking back up to welcome in the beautiful summer (or winter, for our Southern Hemisphere interlopers). As bits of our glorious civilization have died or fallen into disuse, new content will bloom in its place, continuing the growth and fine-tuned evolution of our shared community. New stuff on the way!

Guidance Over Service

Before we get into that new stuff, I’d like to get some procedural (in the sense of “pertaining to procedures”) out of the way.
A centralized leadership structure was beneficial and necessary while we implemented new features, like the Colony Governor system and HubCoin. While the core governance structure of the Galactic Hub - myself as the final authority, Jordan as second-in-command, Italic as third-in-command, and post-Euclid Directors operating in largely autonomous fashion - will remain the same, the emphasis will be shifting.
Rather than encouraging our staff members to handle tasks for the Hublic - such as creating census entries, or being the primary individuals to host multiplayer events - we will instead be encouraging our staff to teach you to do these things on your own. These educated interlopers can, in turn, educate more interlopers, resulting in a more independent and confident population. The Hub functions best when it’s relatively decentralized in established features, with stronger leadership for emerging features. This is an approach we’ll be adhering to more rigorously in the future.
While the Council is still discussing the full implications of this emphasis-shift, one of the first things I’d like to make clear is: you can edit the wiki! You don’t need to ask permission first. If you make a change that shouldn’t be made, we’ll just revert it and contact you in the #wiki channel of our Discord - no harm, no foul. Most of the high-security pages are locked for edits. Don’t feel too worried about stepping on toes. On the other hand, if you’re certain you have no idea what you’re doing, please ask (in the #wiki channel) before taking a shot in the dark.
We may also be looking to expand the Council and other staff in the near future. We are also seeking comments for how we might revitalize our Chapters. The Apprenticeship program has been a good start towards this goal, but it hasn’t been fully achieved yet.

New Ziki City Renovations

Since the time of New Ziki City’s opening, the Arena District, Cuboid District, Mega-Convoy District, and Luxury District have all dropped out of existence. Whether it be due to temporal anomalies or Abyssal network sabotage, the time has come to renovate our grand Hubtropolis.
If you haven’t already completed it, please fill out our New Ziki City Citizen Survey!
So far, I’ve already completed a few changes to our Hubtropolis:
  • MONTHLY REPEATING EVENTS in New Ziki City. We’ll cover those in more detail in the next section, but what this means is, every first Saturday of the month, every second Sunday of the month, etc will feature predictable, routine events which repeat every month. This should give interlopers interested in participating time to plan ahead - and if you miss an event you wanted to attend, you know you can always attend it next month! (Some events, specifically those which occur on the 5th Sat / Sun of the month, will repeat bimonthly or trimonthly as not every month will have a 5th weekend.)
  • Construction of the Galactic Hub Triumph Dome, a massive PVP dome featuring areas suitable for 1v1, free-for-all, 2v2, or new Domination / Search-and-Destroy game modes inspired by Khyodee’s King of the Grid build. It may also be large enough for ship dogfights, but that will require testing. The broader (New) Arena District also features a large NipNip Dispensary with a comedy / poetry / etc-suitable stage, public transit to the Commerce District, and a larger public transit system under construction if we are able to reduce the overall complexity of the city. Until then, the larger public transit building will remain closed off.
There are also some things we’d like to add, but need volunteers to help run:
  • More spotlighting of various types of talent and arts - comedy shows, ByteBeat raves, etc.
  • Construction of hiking trails to show off the city’s more impressive vistas, caves, etc. For those unfamiliar, on hiking trails, interlopers are encouraged to disable their HUDs and navigate using only trail markers. This increases immersion by requiring more attention to be paid to your surroundings.
One thing was tested, and proved non-viable:
  • Roads. This is unfortunate - I started building roads, and it’s not too hard of a task. But for some reason it caused issues with base uploads, even though they were far below the 3,000 part limit. For that reason, New Ziki will not have any new roads added, but future Hubtropolises might.
And finally, one future feature that I’ll need to mostly implement myself, as the person most familiar with it:
  • NMS-RPG content (NPCs, quests, items, unlockable areas, etc) to new and renovated areas within the city.
Aside from this, New Ziki City is complete. We have used the entire system’s available complexity budget. New Ziki is the biggest possible city (in terms of part count) which can currently be constructed in No Man’s Sky. We did it!!!

New Ziki Repeating Monthly Events

As explained in the first bullet point of the next section, New Ziki City will feature repeating monthly events for the foreseeable future! Some events may be swapped out for other events depending on the availability of hosts. Also, Discord monthly scheduling is still a little buggy sometimes, so the dates listed below may not be exact - always check our Discord Event Calendar to confirm.
Additional details on all events can be found on our Discord Event Calendar.
Date Name (Host) Description
1st Friday Social Event (HEAT) Although the exact type of social event will vary month-by-month, the first Friday of every month will feature some event focused on socializing with your fellow interlopers.
1st Saturday Market Day (GHTD) Market Days are shopping events designed to be more convenient for shoppers and more lucrative for vendors. Shoppers can take advantage of special Market Day deals and more convenient shopping, as you don't need to arrange a meet-up like you normally would - the vendor is already in your session! Vendors can benefit from cross-traffic between businesses, which is not ordinarily possible.
1st Sunday HUBTalks (HBS) HUBTalks are monthly scheduled speaking events in the NZC Speaking Hall. Interlopers may give speeches on any topic pertaining to NMS, sci-fi, science, art, or technology. This includes comedy, performances, and demonstrations pertaining to those topics.
2nd Saturday Sport / PVP (GHSL) The second Saturday of every month will feature a non-combat sporting event, like Shield Wrestling or Traveler Hockey. Exact location within the city may vary.
3rd Saturday Art Museum Day (710) Art Museum Days give interlopers a predictable, pre-scheduled opportunity to add their own artistic contributions to the Museum of Interloper Art in the Art & Event District. Note that you may also add works at any other time of the month by requesting to do so.
3rd Sunday Building Demo (GHBG) The GHBG will provide a demonstration on a building technique or particular buildable object, structure, etc. Questions on base building will also be answered during this event.
4th Friday Nightlife Event (HEAT) This event will focus on NZC's nightlife scene, whether that means going to a ByteBeat Rave, hitting the NipNip Dispensary lounge, or doing a pub crawl in Downtown District, nightlife events are sure to be memorable - even if the memories get a bit hazy.
4th Saturday PVP Event (GHSL) Glory awaits on the 4th Saturday of every month, where warrior-lopers will compete in the currently-under-construction PVP arenas coming to New Ziki City. Various game modes will be featured, from 1v1 Multi-tool Combat to Boxing to Starship Dogfighting.
5th Friday Restaurant Tour (GHTD) Try some local cuisine during restaurant tours! Currently, all restaurants in NZC function as pop-up shops, like food trucks. Want to open your own? Contact 7101334 or italicinterloper!
5th Sunday Group Hike (HEAT / Anyone) Meet up at one of our New Ziki City hiking trails (which have not been constructed yet, at the time of posting) and explore the wilds with your fellow interlopers!

New Wiki

Thanks to Miraheze, the Galactic Hub now has its very own wiki! We will be discontinuing our usage of the Fandom Wiki due to excessive ads and other issues. Some select pages, like the main civilization pages, will still be updated for recruitment purposes.
https://nmsgalactichub.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page
All old Galactic Hub pages have been imported to our new wiki, meaning no hard work contributed over our years of Fandom usage will be lost.
The only slightly-negative change is that we won’t have access to the really basic pages - for example, pages explaining the concept of fauna, or pages for the various upgrades. However, most people joining the Galactic Hub will already be familiar with basic concepts like this. In cases where these pages are required, there is a way to link them to the No Man’s Sky Miraheze Wiki, which we are only loosely affiliated with
On the other hand, there will be many positive changes.
  • Searching pages will be easier, as “Galactic Hub” prefixes will be dropped. For example, “Galactic Hub Multi-tool Catalog” becomes simply “Multi-tool Catalog”, because the entire wiki now pertains to the Galactic Hub by default. (Some pages will retain the prefix. For example, organization names, like Galactic Hub Star League, or base names, like Galactic Hub Capitol.)
  • CalHub and EisHub will have differentiating suffixes for page names also used by the Galactic Hub in Euclid. For example, “Multi-tool Catalog (CalHub)”.
  • The main page of the wiki can now serve as a directory to various types of Galactic Hub content. This, in turn, allows us to simplify the main “Galactic Hub Project” page to function more as an introduction to new citizens. On Fandom, we depended on this page to serve as an introduction and content directory simultaneously.
  • RPG content now has a clear dedicated space, allowing it to be easily differentiated from more fact-based content. Use the “NMS-RPG:” namespace to search content pertaining to player-created narratives, or create your own narrative-focused pages.
  • Guides now have a clear dedicated space, allowing them to be easily collated for use by new or returning interlopers. Use the “Guide:” namespace to search content designed to help explain concepts or techniques.
Note that, because Miraheze is an ad-free experience, it relies entirely on voluntary donations. We will occasionally promote those calls for donations to help guarantee the continued stability of this volunteer-run platform.
If you see any outdated content which needs to be updated, please post it in the #wiki thread of our Discord. A number of old pages - for example, the Colonies page - have been updated with current info!

New Census

Cheating a bit here as this is also part of the new wiki, but the Interloper Census is such an integral part of our history that this deserves its own section.
The Census has been considerably reworked. Instead of a bureaucratically-natured population count, it now functions as your public profile and service record in the Galactic Hub community. Check out the page to see what I mean!
Interlopers are encouraged to update the Census on their own, but Achievements need to be confirmed by the relevant authorities before adding them to your entry. If you add achievements without confirmation, they will be revoked.
The old function of the census - determining how many players are active in Galactic Hub space, and automatically listing all bases in Hub space - will be replaced by two new tools/pages:
The old census, which had the primary function of determining how many interlopers are active in Galactic Hub space, was abandoned due to ApexFatality’s Atlas tool delivering a far more comprehensive picture of how many bases are constructed in Hub space every year (over 2,000!) than the Census ever did.
The Bases page will now function as a non-automated a list of all player bases in Hub space. Because it’s not automated, it will be less complete than the Atlas tool. But unlike the Atlas tool, it will contain images and other relevant information helpful for base tourists.
We’re 4 months away from October, which is traditionally Hub Month, a month packed with extra events and a massive party for Founding Day on the 29th. Until then, we’ve got plenty to keep us busy in Hub space. Good journeys interlopers!

2024.06.08 23:26 Glamour-Ad7669 IWTL how to design handbags, shoes and/or jewelry

I’d love to learn fashion design in general but specifically handbags and shoes and possibly jewelry. Has anyone designed one of these things and actually created them/got them created? Where did you learn the required skills?

2024.06.08 23:00 AutoModerator What is #VALZUBIRIAGENDA and some ideas and insights

The 3 basic parameters of hashtag #Valzubiriagenda:

  1. We artists and everyone else can write and self-publish art- and artist-related books: memoirs, biographies, art books and art catalogs. Books are forever. Pamphlets and brochures are not books.
  2. We announce a schedule of increasing prices of our art pieces, which includes quantities (scarcity numbers) per price point and overall (the total quantity of art pieces we might ever make). This helps art traders, art investors and art collectors speculate or even stop speculating and instead join a community of investors working together to hopefully skyrocket to the higher announced prices in a shorter span of time.
  3. We can use the NFT world, because NFTs provide the tracking (who owns what) and trading.
We can also not be involved with NFTs. Stores and individuals can help sell art using online presence and our catalogs in the stores. If this trends, or once this trends, even expensive art can be sold by neighboring businesses, without exclusivity. Commission systems do not have to be standardized. Art investors can produce their own catalogs to leave at the cafés. Even the cafés can produce their own catalogs.
Valzubiriagenda NFTs
NFTs only came about a few years ago. But I had been working on this since the 1990s. I wrote a book, Valzubiriagenda, along with fellow artist Silverio Perez, and released it in 2018 (Amazon and elsewhere), tackling everything related to #1 & #2. We'll come up with #3 in a later book/ memoi marketing book.
Any artist, including tangible artists can release 10,000 NFTs if the artist chooses to do so. For tangible artists, the NFT first becomes an Art Commission Contract for sight unseen, yet-to-be made art. Once the art is made, the NFT becomes proof of ownership that the actual, tangible art is theirs.
Warehousing our tangible art
Another related idea is that the tangible art may be warehoused by the artist so that the NFT traders continue to trade. This means that even 10-ton 10-foot tall sculptures can be owned and traded by anyone without worrying about shipping, reshipping, scratches, smudges, parts breaking off, etc. The newness of the pieces remain because they are stored by the artist, source, gallery, etc. The art piece gets shipped to the art collector, the ultimate owner.
An artist who makes ceramic coffee mugs - smaller art pieces, can release 10,000 NFTs with a schedule of increasing prices so that NFT traders can trade immediately. The 10,000 coffee mugs can get damaged, so as they are made, they continue to be stored by the artist, until the time when art collectors decide to have the art pieces shipped to them.
Why only now?
I decided to write as many book-length memoirs as I can before I came out to promote this.
I'm an artist and an author. Both need time to "master." I would not even fully use "master" on myself, because there's always something new, even to my own art, my own writing and publishing.
I am now claiming that I'm the visual artist who has produced the most artist memoirs in the world. I have 5 on Amazon. I count Valzubiriagenda as both a marketing book and a memoir-of-sorts, because it has a lot of my own life lessons on writing and publishing. I would not care to contest my claim of having the most memoirs. I will release 5 more over the next 3 years.
BARTER! Get help to write, photograph art and publish your books!
Anyone can hire 11 ghostwriters for 11 memoirs. If you can make art, but you cannot write, then barter your forever art with those who can help you produce forever books.
I don't feel the pressure of writing and publishing because I feel my focus should be on art students and art experts who would study my art and my books 100 years from now. Don't expect relatives and friends to read your books.
I call myself the Dollman
For my NFTs, I am proposing to make dioramas - my original, costumed, bejeweled porcelain dolls in backdrops that will also have precious metals and gemstones. This way I can incorporate precious metals and gemstones in my work, to make sure that people perceive my art as expensive, just in case I myself don't become "famous" - there's no need to get world famous. We are artists and all we need to do is to satisfy the art niche.
Use your laptop now!
I will encourage you to start writing your book-length memoir. Write, Edit and then Self-publish it. Get help. Why wait a hundred years for someone to write about you when all you need is a laptop and a nearby coffee shop.
Don't start counting chickens before the eggs hatch. I have encountered a lot of would-be writers who immediately see themselves as bestselling. world famous assets to society. Two even wanted me to sign NDAs (Nondisclosure agreements), because they did not want me to steal their book ideas.
Here's a suggestion. I would not personally do it. From one manuscript can come 2 books: The Original Draft (unedited, with misspellings, considered to be an art piece, scanned pages(?) of your handwritten original effort), and The Final Edition (edited).
PROVENANCE!
Another way to enhance our investability, tradability and collectability is PROVENANCE - how art ownership proceeds through time. The way this can be done is also through publishing books. Everyone can write their memoirs, biographies, art books and art catalogs, including traders, investors and art collectors. In effect, we artists can continue to be included or mentioned in even more books, without any additional effort by us.
You as an investor, reseller, trader, art collector should be able to publish a catalog with 250 works by 250 different artists, but they need to agree to this right from the start - it's your money, you should require them to follow your version of the hashtag #valzubiriagenda parameters, which preferably should include permission for you to publish their art. Why would you track down 250 artists later?
No exclusive contracts
If you're a café, you can call for artists, and come up with a book with for example, 30 artists, with a chapter devoted to each artist's profile and images of the artist's art.
You can distribute your catalogs to businesses and individuals near and far and online.
The book Valzubiriagenda even cites that funeral homes and janitors closets can sell art, with or without exclusivity. Airline catalogs can include million dollar art pieces. Car manufacturers, showrooms and even car repair shops can sell art as well. Everyone should be able to do this, anywhere in the world, especially not just because of the pandemic, but right now, we are in really bad economies.
What's with the name #Valzubiriagenda
I was into conspiracy theories in 2018, and this term, "The Mandela Effect," was popular. I had read many times that an artist coined the term, but I had to research online, for her name, many times, before remembering it. I'm not good at remembering names. It took me a year and a half to finally tell you that Fiona Broome coined "The Mandela Effect."
I also thought I might have to research trademarks and copyrights just to come up with a generic name. So I decided on "Valzubiriagenda." I was not really sure at first, but I decided to use it as the title for my book (with co-authoartist Silverio Perez) so that there would be no turning back and I can move on.
Am I a FUTURIST?
Someone I recently met this May 2022 just called me a futurist.
In the 1990s, I proposed to a pension fund that they can raise billions of dollars, especially for emergencies, or as needed, or out of desperation, if the pension fund purchases a quantity of art from an artist who not only has a current, reasonable price, but an announced future price that the artist wants to reach.
That future price would obviously be higher than the current price. The art commission contract for multiple art pieces can be taken to the fund's financial lender for a loan. The higher future price can be used for financing purposes.
The pension fund's treasurer, a publicly elected official, said this idea might work, but we had to keep this a secret and discuss this some more, because other pension funds might copy and do this prematurely. This idea had to come from the two of us. The treasurer needed his votes and I needed credentials.
Added into the pot was my idea that I, as the artist, will also write one book-length artist memoir. This was and still is a strong factor, because the leadership and marketing books I had read then mentioned a strong tip. If you want to advance in your field, write a full-length book that is related to the field.
Unfortunately, the elected official, the treasurer of the pension fund, who was also a friend, passed away - he was old and had ailments. At that point in time, I cannot just approach another pension fund treasurer to share this idea with.
I realized I had to write a few memoirs. I needed to set an example for other artists, so I needed to write more than one memoir. Then I felt I should also make ready another book - the how-to of what I'm up to. I wrote Valzubiriagenda, which was a memoir of sorts. I knew how long it would take me to write a book, so I had to make sure I can also consider this book a memoir.
In 2008, I imagined that someone like Bernie Madoff, or a fund like Lehman Brothers, would be desperate enough to use this to save themselves and their companies. I was not ready. I had only written 1 manuscript for a memoir.
In 2012, I released Dollman the Musical, A Memoir of an Artist as a Dollmaker. Once again, I was not ready because writing it depressed me a little, and I knew I had to write more.
In 2014, I released 3 memoirs, and re-released Dollman the Musical. Besides releasing regular books, I released special editions of the 4 books, which had a "Special Secret Insert for Bankers," which explains my ideas of an announced schedule of exponentially increasing prices, to satisfy investors, and the publication of artist memoirs, to satisfy art collectors.
In 2014, I also issued out a press release. Google "Can Billion Dollar Artist Save Investors and World Economy Valentino Zubiri PRWeb August 19 2014" and you will see the press release.
What I did was stake a claim on my ideas. I did not promote my books and the press release. I just wanted them to stay online, like a sleeping giant or a dormant volcano. I even designed 3 of the book covers to look like indie books from the 1980s. I was planting the seeds, thinking they will eventually grow and bear fruit in the future.
In 2015, I was interviewed by Richard Syrett, about one of my memoirs, Hocus Pocus Lately. This book is my memoir with paranormal stories. I could have pursued promoting my paranormal stories, but I wanted to be known first as a visual artist and memoirist, so I allowed myself one interview related to Hocus Pocus Lately. Richard Syrett has(had?) his own syndicated radio show, The Conspiracy Show with Richard Syrett, about the paranormal. He also guest hosts on Coast to Coast AM, another internationally syndicated show about the paranormal.
In 2018, I released Valzubiriagenda (co-authored by artist Silverio Perez, a fellow artist). Finally, this book is "the how-to of what I'm to."
I'm going to end this with some strangeness. In 1986, a lady at a religious gathering went into a trance and left a good number of messages. Supposedly, anyone who got into a trance would have messages, but once the trance was over, the person would not remember what was said.
I was not part of the group, but the lady turned her head to face me. She "foretold" that whatever I would decide to do in the future, it will take time, but it will be the right thing. This is one of my stories in one of my memoirs, Hocus Pocus Lately.
The Tulipmania of 1634-37
I discovered that there was this incident of rare tulips becoming collectible during the Dutch Golden Age. There were tulips so rare and so well-desired that their prices equaled to that of a house. You can read more about this online (Wikipedia) or watch a few YouTube videos about it.
Here is the most useful idea that I gleaned from the Tulipmania. The tulip bulbs remained safe inside nurseries. The traders were carrying the deeds of ownership to the tulip bulbs.
Then NFTs came to the forefront
I started learning PHP, an HTML scripting language, and MySQL, the database that PHP can connect to in the background, in 1999, when there were only 3 books about PHP and MySQL at the bookstores.
By 2014, I was trying to figure out how to make the "ledger," or database that can be used to update ownership and who can be contacted. If we are trading art, then the art ownership should be updated.
Then NFTs came about. This can be used as our ledger. Everyone can immediately trade NFTs of future, yet-to-be made art pieces, especially because it takes time to make tangible art.
NFTs actually went a step ahead, by allowing digital art to be traded.
The only setback with NFTs, in my opinion, is that it still lacks a commission system for resellers and representatives.
For example, if a café wants to represent me, then they can promote me at their café and on their online pages. If I make one piece of art that will be exclusively represented by a gallery, then that commission will be different and more specific. As ownership is transferred, the subsequent owners should be able to reset the commission. We should also have the option of giving commissions to hundreds of representatives at one time with different percentages if need be.
The recent crypto crash
Lately, we have observed that NFTs and cryptocurrencies have been behaving like the stock market and other markets. They have been fluctuating.
I believe that it is time for a trend which discourages fluctuation of prices.
I have also seen YouTube videos where social influencers are encouraging us to be on the lookout for exponentially profitable ventures, because we have all seen this happen with the exponential increase of Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Let's see if #Valzubiriagenda trends
We can announce present and future art prices. The galleries won't do this (yet?) because they follow a more traditional approach to the business of art.
We have a choice of using incrementally or exponentially increasing prices. We still reserve the right to change things in the future, so everyone should know to follow the latest update.
If this trends, if you as an artist simply announces that you will write an artist memoir, or that you will include the future works in future art books, you might have more art traders, investors and collectors approaching you.
Get your pen, paper and calculator
Imagine yourself as an artist, where you are right now. Let's just say you still do not have a book about yourself and your art yet. Imagine now that you have a memoir out there. Don't you think it makes sense to charge more than what you are charging now? Writing and publishing books is just the beginning. I'm just standardizing this approach. The books also say to do other related projects. In my case, getting Dollman the Musical onstage is one idea. You will have other related projects, but the publication of memoirs, biographies, art books and art catalogs will help all of us.
You can also imagine that a law firm that has meeting rooms, with someone who wants to form a local #valzubiriagenda group, can have meetings. A local café can do the same. Local photographers for your art, writers, editors, book designers, proofreaders and others can join in.
I suggest have printed books to share. 15 copies of your memoir or art books will be better than an e-reader or laptop or your phone to show. These gadgets can be stolen, sabotaged, broken, have coffee spilled on them, etc. 15 printed books means simultaneously showing to 15 people. You can even give them away to potential resellers, investors, traders and collectors.
When it rains, it pours, as in the days of Noah
There's a saying, "When it rains, it pours." There is a negative interpretation and a positive interpretation.
Negative: When trouble comes, they cascade to even more.
Positive: When opportunity comes knocking, more follow suit. We can assume that if one gets our art because of #valzubiriagenda, more want to do it now, because of the rising prices, and FOMO - fear of missing out. What will they lose if they miss the boat?
As I have said earlier, if the #valzubiriagenda trends, if you announce a future memoir or art catalog, you might have an increase of investors, traders and art collectors who would want to check you out. You might encourage more sales. Just remember to write and publish that memoir and art catalog.
There's this saying, "As in the days of Noah." Imagine Noah, building his ark, with members of his own family, putting all his time and effort into it. Noah was a nice guy. I'm sure every once in a while a neighbor offered him coffee, or chai latte, or whatever refreshing drink they might have back then.
Here's the lesson to be learned. Just because they offered him some type of bubble tea drink, or coca cola, they still didn't make it to the ark. Rubbing shoulders with actors does not make you an actor. I have told my artist friends to write their memoirs. They told me that once they see me succeed, after all these many years of seeing my seemingly useless efforts, then they will write their memoirs and follow the road that I had paved for them.
Good luck to them, but if I were you, act now, get my art or make art. Support the 5-year old artist whose parent promised to release a comprehensive art catalog. If you get that 5-year old's art, and mine, I would be honored to be in the same art catalog that you will produce. I'm already successful at that point. You have gotten the mission just right.
I have already claimed to have written the most book-length artist memoirs in the world. Dethrone that claim. Barter. Use ghostwriters. Success to me means facing God one day and saying, I wrote my memoirs and left the world a legacy of books and art. I will not tell God, smiling and proudly, that I encouraged a run for my art by announcing a schedule of exponentially increasing prices that reached 9 figures. I'm sure God knows we had fun.

2024.06.08 20:47 kedarmax Review: Perfumekart - Some hits, some misses

Review: Perfumekart - Some hits, some misses
Back again with another set of alt reviews. Mainly one-liners, and of course, I do not comment on longevity.
This time it's Perfumekart, run by our very own sunny aurora paaji, from Delhi. (+91 98718 32330 on whatsapp or even perfumekart.in ) Sunny paaji sells designer and niche, and middle eastern frags on his site too, but this is a review of his 'inspirations'.
Re: Shipping & cost - I paid on 19/5, he shipped on 21/5 and I received on 26/5. No Complaints for service. Discovery set was 1200 including shipping for 5 frags, and 2 more I paid Rs 50 each, so total cost was 1300.
As you can see, they too name their own blends something aside from what they are an inspiration of
Nice box and packing. Personal note really adds a nice touch.
Quality of box and material used was good
Bright coloured juice. Those who like coloured juice (like me), will enjoy.
Overall, the packing, cost, shipping, everything was just right. Sunny himself is very polite, sweet, and gives time to fragheads. He is active in various WhatsApp groups and is often the first to provide answers to queries.
Coming to the fragrance, I felt it was a mixed bag. Here goes:
1- Zesty Orange - Bvlgari Aqva Amara- this was my fav. I can see why people love the OG despite it being discontinued. Opening is balanced with citrus and vetiver, drydown is more spicy but role of citrus and smoky (encre type) vetiver remains. Enjoyable frag for summers.
2-One Million - this was as expected, which is a good thing. Sweet, spicy, paco DNA, good for winters and parties. Sticky, sweet, cinnamon, with something that seemed slightly off underneath. Not bad, not a wow.
3-Nirvana - Guerlain Shalimar- I don't really understand it but I love it. I can sense the vanilla, spices, and _something_ else I cannot put my finger on. Maybe the famous civet, anyway, I would love to have this around to sniff it, but I would not wear it. Well done in either case. Very classy and intriguing. Powdery too. Not many doing shalimar alt nowdays in my observation, so get it if you are curious.
4-Enchantress - Chanel No.5. Again my first time trying this DNA. I had mixed emotions. The Perfume is well done. Very rich but airy jasmine, with some green touch. I would have liked it but I suspect the DNA is so popular, so ubiquitous that it has been used by many 'lesser' perfumed items like deos, makeups, maybe even some cleaning items. Please note, I am not saying the inspiration is not well done, in fact I think it is a high quality inspiration. I think the DNA is overused. I never realized till now, but now that I have, I cannot un-smell it. If it wasn't for this and my inability to pull of 'ladies' fragrances, I would highly recommend this one. I wore it to bed one night, like Marilyn recommended. Nice one.
5- Le Male- I liked PPIs inspiration, and I like MFK's work, so I was excited for this one. Regrettably I did not enjoy this inspiration. I felt like there was some aromachemical which did not agree with me, felt screechy and loud, I could not pick up on any notes unfortunately. It's a pity, because I loved the color and would have liked a full bottle.
6- YSL Y (added later)- this came due to my thirst for YSL-Y as you would have seen in my prior posts. Paaji was kind to accomodate this at the last minute. Regrettably (and I shared this with him), I did not care for this one at all. I felt that, like the above, it was quite synthetic feeling (i acknowledge that all inspirations are synthetic in nature, but some feel more than others). Although unlike the Le Male, here I could detect some of the fruity notes that give the sweetness to Y in the inspiration too, but beyond that, nothing. Number 5 and 6 personally I would avoid.
PS: YSL-Y Improved after settling for a few days and drying down. Maybe I judged it harshly (he did say it is a best seller). Watch this space. I will come back and give more views on this. Now I am picking up some other notes but can't tell what exactly.
Overall, as I said, I feel there are hits and misses for me. I also judged these after some time of drydown since I felt the openings were not great for any of these, there is something that makes it hard to break them down immediately on spraying, not exactly alcohol blast but something that has a 'chemically' feel. After drydown all of them improved so that is when I wrote my opinions.
I am usually on the lookout for designer alts, and paaji has a nice catalog, with some products that are hard to find, so I am sure I will be going back for more, and to also buy designer OGs as I have from him in the past too. I hope that he takes this constructively, and I look forward to trying any new iterations or revisions that he brings through his brand.

2024.06.08 20:41 ZDivine22 Advice on replacing stone in my ring

Advice on replacing stone in my ring
I have a ring from my great grandmother that I've had since I was a teenager. It's more sentimental to me than anything, since I think its just costume jewelry. I just love the ring itself, and the design around the center. It also fits me perfectly and I wear it all the time. I'm not sure what kind of gem is there now, but I like the light purple color to it and I'd love to replace it with a real amethyst that has more shine and brilliance to it. I'm not sure how/where I would go to do this though or how expensive it would be. I also noticed discoloration on the underside of the ring, and I don't know if it would be worth it to restore it and get a new gem placed at all. Any advice is appreciated 😊
