Ceftin and white stools

idk what type of doctor to see first

2024.05.17 10:22 Available-Gear-4839 idk what type of doctor to see first

20 Female
i have been experiencing blood when wiping after pee/poop but i am confused where is the blood coming from since there is no traces of blood in my urine or stool but only when wiping.
I suspected it from my vagina area because it feel sore once i touch/rub it in the middle so i thought maybe it is irritated, and also notice blood when wiping after peeing and once had bleeding during sexual intercourse
I also suspected it from my anus area because when i first notice this sympyom, it was after i poop then when i wipe there is blood in my wipes and I feel like there is fluid or watery feeling betwen my butt cheeks even after wiping them off
I had no pain with my abdominal area tho and no other green/white/yellow discharge aside from I can see the blood in my undergarments
I am confused if the blood is due to hemorrhoids or some vaginal issues since I could feel a flow sometimes
note: around this month i have a feeling of urging to pee whenever after pooping or usually in the morning after the very first pee like i would come back atleast 3-5 times to pee for very small amount but after that scenario the urge to pee will just go away and went back to normal. Could this be a sign of UTI?
ever since around 2021, i also experienced some odor whenever after peeing but i thought maybe just because of the wet underwear after washing the vagina since it will just go away whenever i wear new/dry underwear. Could this be also a sign of untreated BV that may lead to UTI now?
what type of doctor should i see first?

2024.05.17 07:30 iamusername99 AITA for not loving and being disrespectful to my mother?

AITA. This is a throwaway account. I 21 (f) is living with my mother 45 (f). I have 2 other siblings, an older sister and a younger brother. Something happened earlier, I was doing my project when she started to police me about it, which is not the first time, I have been full of her bs so I just said, "you do it". I mean I did not mean to make her feel bad, but I just don't feel anything for her, no respect nothing. Just pure hatred deep within me. Let's break down to you why.
Idk if I'm the ahole or what anymore. So I really need an outside view or opinion. It will be long so please bear with me.
  1. Ever since I was young, I don't remember anything sweet she did for me besides a hug, once, it's late at night, we're in bed and it's raining and our house was being built.
  2. She has always favored my older sister, I'm a middle child, which my older sister says I'm the black sheep of the family. She's the golden child, never did anything wrong. Once I was eating, she dipped her hand on my cup of water, I told my mother (I don't even want to call her my mother, it disgusts me so much, all i think of her is a biological mother, she's never a parent to me she's a f*cking piece of sht) 3.All the times she tried to discipline (h!t) my sister, I can count, twice. One of them I'm being h!t as well, with a plastic PVC blue pipe, I remember a part of my btt was with a white line because of that pipe. -- I'm starting to cry already while typing this, I don't think I'll ever fogive her for everything she did to me.
  3. One time I have a choir practice, I was playing (I was elementary) with my friends under the mango tree, she started calling me on my keypad phone, I got home, my little brother was a baby at that point, she went to me, pshed me to the floor, held my hair and started pulling and pushing back and forth. I didn't cry. Why? Because I'm used to it. After that I was sitting down, she thrw a baby bottle on my head. And that wasn't enough for her, when my father came back from work, she told him about it, I was about to go to the bathroom to pee, my father got the Arnis stick and started bating me. I ped on my skirt. It felt so humiliating for me, I still hate him to this day because of it, I try to forget, sometimes I do, but when I remember it, it still makes me angry.
  4. One time I was also playing with my neighbors, she called me to eat lunch but I don't want to eat yet, what did she do? She got the blunt meat knfe we have and started to sort of push it down my bare leg. I saw the mark, thank God it did not cut through. --im brwling my eyes out right now, it's been years yet it still makes me cry everytime I think about it.
  5. I was a majorette (someone who dances in festivals, we were wearing t!ny skirts, I was 11 years old at this point I think) I told her I don't want to go, I was just eating lunch at that time, yk what she did? She took the wooden broom and the wood part, she h!t me on my leg, there were marks of it that turned a bit red tiny blood clots so it looked like a wund. She asked me to borrow concealer from the neighbor and she applied it on where she h!t (bot of my legs have it) and told me if someone asks me what those are, I'll just say I fll on a rock. Which my teammates asked what those are as those little sk!rts shows my legs.
  6. When she's mad that I don't answer as respectful as she wants, she pnches me on my arm, I still remember i was next to the wall, she was pnching me non stop, I'm just looking, because turns out, after a few pnches, the pain is gone, just pressure. She also pnched me again and again in from of my father when I got home late once when I was in highschool, my father was just laying there, I'm just looking until maybe he felt bad and started to stop her.
  7. One day I went home a bit late from school, she h!t me with a metal ladle you use for cooking.
  8. When I was 11, I got a crush, we became in a relationship for 1 day then he brke up with me, yk, puppy love, I was extremely hrt, so I wrote it down a paper to give him but I don't really want to give it, I just wrote it, then I slept. The day after, morning, I have to go to school, she was so angry at me. I already knew why, she was putting the laundry on the rack, I was eating, she was pnching my arm then going back to put the clothes up, then pnching me hard on my arm then pnching while saying obscenities to me, that I'm a slt, cursing, etc.
  9. One night I remember, she was angry at me idk why, she was about to h!t me with a whole metal fan, then st*bbed me on my leg with a ballpen, though it's not that deep.
  10. I was in school (11 at that time) in front of other children and parents I just ate lunch, we have a wood project to make this tiny stool to sit on, I dont want to do it and I wanted to play, what she did? She h!t me on my leg with the metal hammer, my bone did not shatter, so still good ig.
  11. My grandma was in the house, she was angry at me again, she h!t me with a wooden broom, I remember my grandma said, 'dont hit your children Infront of other people', in my head was like "oh she's so kind, but wouldn't it be possible to not h!t me at all?" Sometimes she's b*ating with a remote of the tv until it's all over the place, which I think is still light compared to everything.
  12. I remember, I think I was 8 at that time or 9, I was laying on my stomach, my father was bating me with a wooden thick stick, and I don't have a memory of how it ended or whatever, until a few months ago we have to go to church, I went to where our car is, my father was in the store next to it talking to our neighbors who owns the store, he's like 'when *me was young and he was bating me, I pased out, he was confused to why I wasn't making a sound, then he saw me I was purple, and that I wasn't br3athing so he carried me" saying all this with a smile on his face, there, I got the connection why I don't remember what happened, because I lost consciousness. SAYING ALL THIS WITH A FCKING SMILE ON HIS FACE AS IF ITS FUNNY, AND HE'S SAYING IT LIKE HE'S SO F*CKING PROUD!
  13. I remember it was afternoon and I was looking for my small amount paper money, I couldn't find it, and M (mother, as I could not f*cking stomach calling her my mother anymore, because I never had one, and a father of some sort) she found it, and sort of slpped it on my mouth because I couldn't find it, it's not like I'm screaming while trying to find it, no.
  14. Probably the worst in my memory, idk what I did that time but I guess I said something she didn't like, she went to the kitchen and took a knfe, she tried to stb me on my back but I was able to miss it. The day after, she told me, if you weren't able to miss that, it's already your funeral today.
It happened until I was 17. I thought to myself I have to fight back or else this wouldn't stop. One day, she was about to h!t me, when she went near me while I was sitting down, I k!cked her in the stomach and crsed. She looked at me and speechless for a moment. I didn't know if I should feel bad or not but I know that's the only way all this would stop. My older sister is in there too, watching. I went upstairs and took my ctter (the bl@de thing you use for arts and crafts) I held it on my hand while facing sideways on an open door, waiting for her to get inside because I was 101% decided that if she comes near me I'll slt her thrat. I was just standing there, waiting for her to come near me and hurt me. My older sister is just standing there saying"are you really gonna stb mother?" I didn't say anything, I was just staring at them and waiting for her to come inside my room, which she didn't.
Going back, earlier with what happened when I said "you do it", I heard her say, "If get to my limit, I will h!t you. Don't say you're tall".
In my head.. I'm like "yeah, try it. I'll slt your thrat." And I was just waiting and waiting. And no, I am not afraid to go to j@!l.
So, Am I the Ahole for not loving and being disrespectful to my mother?
Edit: to answer some questions I think will be important, I am not an orphan. I am still at school for my other degree so I can't find another place to live in rn. My boyfriend is in the states and I'm still waiting for him to go to my country so we could be together but at this time not yet. Thank you for reading and probably commenting, I appreciate everything. Thank you so much.

2024.05.17 05:15 Elegant_Release9004 One Month Review of Playa Flamingo and Potrero

We are just wrapping up a month (April 19th to May 18th) in Playa Flamingo. We had a great time, and did less than 10% of what we had bookmarked before arriving, but that’s a good thing and just enjoyed a Pura Vida life for a few weeks. This experience is applicable if you’re staying in Brasilito, Conchal, Flamingo, or Potrero.
I hope it helps! Have a great trip!

2024.05.17 04:37 CareForYourHealth Colonoscopy helps detect and prevent colorectal cancer. Don't avoid it. Ask anyone who has experienced or cared for someone with colon cancer. Share your experience before, during, and after the procedure to help others feel comfortable. Follow your doctor's guidelines and ask them questions.

Feel free to share your experiences. My experience is below. More details than necessary, but hopefully, it brings some comfort and relieves nervousness for those going through it their first time as many of the posts here did for me. Note your prep maybe different per your doctor's guidelines
About me (for context): 37F, Height: 5' 1", Weight: 114 lbs
Reason for checkup: Family History of Colon Cancer (after I scheduled, I also had an incident of blood in stool on one occasion)
Pre-Procedure Medication/Supplement/Diet: 4 days before - all medication and supplements stopped. 3 days before - went grocery shopping for low-fiber foods. Low-fiber diet of 2 boiled eggs, crackers, milk, cheese, chicken, 2 sandwiches - white bread with 1 turkey slice, small amount cinnamon stick. 2 days before - Picked up Golytely from pharmacy. Low-fiber diet of milk, 2 sandwiches - white bread with 1.5 turkey slice, 2 boiled eggs, apple without skin, cheese, small amount cinnamon stick. 1 day before (midnight to 4 pm) - liquid diet of 1 cup apple juice x 2 and unsalted chicken broth x 2 (added a little salt later, haha).
Pre-Procedure Clearing Bowels: 4 pm - prepared Golytely solution by adding 4 liters of distilled water to a jug and refrigerating it. 6 pm until 8 pm - started by drinking half an 8 oz cup every 15 minutes, licking a cold lemon slice before and after. Used a straw for 3 cups, then switched to drinking directly from the cup. The first bowel movement (use wipes) occurred at 7 pm and continued until 8:30 PM. (originally brownish by end was cloudy yellow with smaller chunks/particles). Took a shower. 10 pm to 12:30 am - started drinking second half one 8 oz cup every 20 minutes as I got nauseated. The lemon helped me get through it. The last bowel movement was around 1 am. was faster (started cloudy yellow with more chunks/particles and by end was clear yellow and no visible particles). 1:30 AM to 4 am - slept. Had 1 bowel movements after waking up and another after an hour later. Not much though and it was little lighter and clearer each time.
Pre-Procedure Clinic (Note that the clinic had a waiting room board displaying admission check-in, pre-op, ready for op, in op, and post-op times for each patient by initials): 6:40 am - arrived early due to ride. Checked in with ID and insurance card. Filled in several paperwork. 7:30 am - admission paperwork was submitted. 8:25 am - Had another very small bowel movement. 8:40 am - Pre-Op in middle area with curtains. Pre-Procedure nurse asked about any allergies and had me sign papers on blood transfusion and sedation by propofol. Then she sent me to the bathroom with a cup to get a urine sample (left on the back of the toilet) and a bag with a gown to change into (could keep socks and shoes on. I opted to keep socks on and take off shoes) with opening facing back. Then, I was directed to bed, where I was instructed to sit with bare bottom on white cloth. My clothes and shoes were placed under bed. Regular vitals we taken, pre-questionnaire (doctor came midway to ask if I had any questions and said he was heading to op for other patient), nurse went over any questions I had, placed 3 electrode patches (left wrist, left upper arm, right upper arm), and placed needle for propofol. Then she left me with lights off so it wasn't in my eyes until the next nurse came. 9:15 am - Ready for op. Intra-Procedure nurse. Arranged all my paperwork, the ones I had signed before. Checked blood pressure. Went over details of what was to happen and things I should do afterward. Asked if I had any questions. Then, he moved me to the procedure room.
Procedure Clinic (according to the report, my preparation was good and only stage 1 internal hemorrhoid found): 9:27 am - In op. Intra-procedure nurse, GI tech, nurse anesthetist, and doctor in room. Amongst themselves, they verified my name and date of birth. Meanwhile, they quickly connected electrodes while telling me things. Then, the doctor asked me to share what my name meant. Stating how names in my culture have meanings. Then he said he would talk to me after the procedure. Then they started the propofol, 9:28 am - started anesthesia***, 9:30 am -*** pre-procedure time-out where the doctor and nurses verify the patient and procedure again, 9:32 am - scope inserted, 9:36 am - cecum reached, 9:43 am - scope withdrawn, 9:44 am - out of procedure room and back in middle area
Post Procedure: 9:45 to 10:18 am - Had a nice nap, a strange but peaceful dream, and woke up passing gas within seconds. Noted the time on a computer next to me. 10:19 am - The intra-procedure nurse checked if I passed gas and instructed me to get dressed in bed. Then doctor quickly confirmed I was clear with no polyps and left. The nurse returned with a wheelchair and had me sit in it. Then reviewed information, mentioned I would be contacted in two weeks, answered my questions, gave me water, and handed me my reports. 10:25 am - Took me to the car, where my ride and guardian signed my release paperwork.
After getting home Half an hour later I was home. Ate some food within half hour or so. Started eating a high fiber diet normally without spices. Had a nice sleep. So, far ok. Shall see tomorrow.

2024.05.17 02:38 Narrow-Cow-1620 Hemorrhoid Symptoms

Hello,
I have had hemorrhoids for over a year and I wanted to share my symptoms and ask if what I have are mild or severe.
Bleeding: I have noticed bright red blood on the stool but the amount is so small I would have to look closely in order to notice anything. This occurs very intermittently The last instance was a few days ago and that was the first time in at least two weeks.
Pain: I have felt very little pain from the hemorrhoids. It is rare and it is usually just a split second and then it is gone as quickly as it came. More often than not, it is more like I am about to feel something but it does not happen after all. Other than that, I can sit all day at my job without any issues at all and workout just fine.
Staining on Underwear: This is the most recent symptom. I have noticed that sometimes even after using only Prep H wipes until I see nothing on them, I would notice staining on my underwear much later on in the day. It is usually a bright yellowish color and fairly faint. Sometimes it is so faint that I can still see the white of my underwear through it. It is not prominent enough that I can see it on the outside of my underwear. Additionally, I have occasionally noticed brown/yellowish spots that are smaller than a pinprick.
I have noticed sometimes there is pink staining which is also pinprick size but this is rare. Sometimes, I would see linear stains where my glutes would be. This leads my to believe this could be from something else like a rash.
Itching: Virtually nonexistent. I only use Prep H wipes every day. Although I do feel damp for a bit afterwards.
About me: I am a male in his 30s who lifts weights 4-5 times a week consistently and does cardio once a week. I have a high fiber diet from eating legumes, fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meat almost daily. I drink water 99% of the time and sometimes go for a soda , coffee or a beer. I also put lime in my water for extra flavor. I do indulge in my diet but what I described above is what I normally stick to.
Based on what I have described, how mild or severe are my symptoms? The only symptom that really bothers me is the staining because I do make sure I am clean and yet it seems it is not always enough. Any advice or comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Open concept Paint color and what to do with fireplace??
Purchased this home and everything is stark white! Previous owners even painted the beautiful stone fireplace white with regular paint so we don’t think we can salvage it. We painted the sunroom at the back a custom color match olive green with Romabio Velatura mineral wash and love it (last picture best captured color; storming so no natural light today)! Open to getting rid of the velvet blue barstools and purchasing new dining chairs as well. We were thinking cognac brown bar stools for island? Any suggestions/directions would be greatly appreciated for paint color and the fireplace!

2024.05.16 20:33 Sure-Class2919 Pg. 91 How can I identify parasites? In need of some guidance

Referenced page 91 as that's the only one I can find constipation in. I may regret this. Please, for the love of God, don't come here telling me to see a homeopathic doctor or that the medical establishment doesn't know anything, etc. I genuinely cannot tolerate somebody fear mongering to me, I'm really hoping I get a mod or someone with some medical/educational background in parasites to give me some pointers/next steps on my situation.
Back in 2022, I was diagnosed with a possible case of eosinophilic esophagitis/GERD. I was on a pureed diet for about a year since I had significant dysphagia and lost 20 pounds. I've been underweight ever since.
When I transitioned to eating solid food again, my poop looked very weird. White specks floating in the toilet water above the actual poop. White and yellow specks, as well as stringy things in my actual poop. One time, what looked like a literal worm in the toilet bowl. My GI last spring ordered a parasite & ova stool test. While I was waiting for the results, I had to go to urgent care for another matter. Well, it turned out the urgent care doctor was an infectious disease doctor, I showed her the picture, and she thought it looked like a roundworm.
Well, that parasite & ova stool test came back negative. I did a pinworm paddle test as well. It came back negative. My poop continued to look weird. Saw my GI last summer, and he just told me not to pay too much attention to my poop.
Then last fall, I went to my primary and told them maybe I'm dealing with a pinworm infection. Can my partner and I please take albendazole to see if it helps. We did one dose, and then after two weeks, another dose.
Now I'm dealing with near constant constipation, so I can't properly see if my poop is normal. I'm also dealing with nausea, bloating, a lack of appetite, iron deficiency anemia, B12 deficiency, and Vitamin D deficiency as well. I have had anemia since I was a teenager, the B12 deficiency started in 2022. The Vitamin D deficiency has been on & off during my life. Due to these symptoms, I am not able to gain much needed weight. I did a SIBO test in January that came back negative. Asked my GI what the next steps were about my symptoms, and he just told me to take Miralax.
This week, I saw a weird white floating thing in the toilet water when I had a bowel movement. Then, when I wiped today after having a bowel movement, there was what looked like a worm (maybe?) on the toilet paper that was yellow/tan in color.
My question is, really, what do I do? Does it sound like I could have parasites? If so, how do I go about addressing this? Once again, looking for guidance, NOT fear mongering.

2024.05.16 20:03 Primavera_777 Repeat colonoscopy warranted?

Hi Doctors! I'm female, 42 years old. 5 foot 1, 103 lbs. Nil other medical hx. Nil medications. Nil supplements. I had a colonoscopy done last year (July 2023) due to hx of intermittent abdominal pain flares occuring every few weeks to months which are accompanied by high abdominal pain, diarrhea, gas, malaise - improvement to symptoms after having bowel movement. Lingering abdominal pain for days to few weeks after a flare. This started in 2021 (though 2019 had an episode of suspected food poisoning but presented similar to early flares). And the first few flares presented with bright red blood in stool (2019-2021) but now commonly presents with large amount of white mucus on occasion. Plenty of diagnostics done - last year the fecal calprotectin was around 150 (elevated). ANA has tested positive since 2020. All other bloodwork normal. Recent celiac screen is negative (eating several slices of sourdough bread daily x weeks prior to test). First colonoscopy and biopsy ruled clear and no polyps. Also had an ultrasound of the small intestine and nil abnormalities seen. Nil signs of active disease of IBD. Given label of IBS. No worsening of symptoms, perhaps flares happening closer together but I'm able to get out of a flare within days now. PRN gas-x and buscopan with a flare. I was offered a repeat colonoscopy this month. I'm uncertain whether to go ahead with same. Weighing if this would be more helpful or harmful (unnecessary anxiety, risk of procedure, prep itself). First gastroenterologist said it's IBS. Only major difference is that I was eating nil to very minimal gluten prior to first colonoscopy and I am now eating much more gluten via bread. Still limited diet but working on expanding this. Any input is so appreciated. As a nurse myself, I want to make sure I am making the right choice. *just to add, in Canada the wait time for a colonoscopy is about 1-2 years so I don't want to dismiss an opportunity if it is needed. Thank you!

2024.05.16 19:14 Powerful-Midnight-89 Right Side Burning Pain

Age 37M
Sex Male
Height 6,1
Weight 175lbs
Race White
Duration of complaint 6 years
Location right side abdomen
Any existing relevant medical issues none
Current medications none
Include a photo if relevant n/a
Patient: I am [37] [M] 6'1, 175lbs,
Main issue: Burning pain/sensation in right side around last rib area and burning sometimes yellow liquid stool.
Done So Far: I have been chasing this burning sensation and pain in my right side for a few years now unsure of triggers except definitley beer so I typically just avoid it. I have gone to PCP and Gastroenterologist. I have been put to sleep for endoscopy/colonoscopy. I have also had MRI and CT Scans with and without contrast with no findings. According to bloodwork liver is in an ok place based on typical LFT's They cant find a problem. I don't drink alcohol often these days but did pretty heavily in my 20's for what that might be worth. And I do specifically know that beer is a trigger so I almost never touch it. BUT I got a new job offer last week and had 2 beers to celebrate at restaurant (Michelob Light 4.5%) and boy did that set my side on fire and left me feeling thirsty for a few days straight. Needless to say I am very scared I have a baby due in August and just scared I have liver issue or something that can't be fixed. If someone could help me it would mean the world to me. I have labs etc I could share if needed. Please and thank you so much anyone. Curious how easy something might’ve been overlooked by doctors.

2024.05.16 15:24 castledecagliostro At the end of my rope…

I M(27) was diagnosed with colitis(from an urgent care) about two years ago. I was pretty much suffering from it every day up until about a year ago, when it suddenly disappeared. All the symptoms I have presently are floating stools and a white coat on my tongue (not flush, certainly related to my gut issues). I finally have the financial means to get a colonoscopy even if my insurance doesn’t cover it. But dear god the wait times are criminal. I really just want some assurance from someone who knows what they’re talking about. I’ve seen a bountiful of doctors who just brushed it off due to my glowing blood work panel. (All normal) or just didn’t care. I had ONE doctor who told me through a shitty telehealth FaceTime call an actual coherent piece of information. Mentioning that my colitis would’ve gotten worse if it were a serious intestinal issue.
So here’s my questions:
-is floating stool and white tongue a symptom of something serious(provide a identical experience) related to my gut health? -is my bloodwork a good placeholder that my gut isn’t effecting my health? -should I go to a hospital er for a colonoscopy, urgent care, or other? So I’m not waiting a year for an appointment. -what’s the best at home biome test?
Thank you for your help!

2024.05.16 13:02 Tork26 Advice on food

Advice on food
My pup (now 7.5 months) was on Natural Instinct raw food from the beginning as this is what the breeder had been giving him and we had no problems with it. His poops were solid and we had no issues.
Pup had a tooth abscess end of March after which the vet told us to lay off the raw diet whilst he recovered from surgery so he was having meat chunks in gravy with probiotic sachets which he loved. After his wound had healed we returned to raw food (mixed with some of his meat chunks in gravy) again and everything was fine.
At the end of April he had a 2 night stay in doggy hospital due to having some sort of bug. He had diarrhoea which resulted in dehydration and he ended up losing over 2kg in a few days. His bloods showed his red blood cells were down and white blood cells were elevated but these returned to normal a few days after he came home. Vet advised to feed something that was gut friendly alongside probiotic so we picked up AVA Veterinary Approved Optimum Gut Health Dry Adult Dog Food Chicken. I know this says for 1-7 years but the vet advised it would be fine to give to our dog as long as we adjusted the portion size.
Initially things were going back to normal after his hospital stay, his stools were getting firmer and back to his regular few times a day and he was sleeping through the night again which he has done from an early age.
Over the past week his stools have become soft again. Think texture of soft serve ice cream. He’s been waking up twice during the night like 3 and 5am. Sometimes he does a big poo other times he’s squatting in multiple spots but not much appears to be coming out.
We’re not really sure what to do as he seems otherwise normal, loves playing and tiring out all the other dogs at daycare and still loves his food. We’ll most likely have to speak to the vet again to see what they think but was wondering if anyone has experienced any similar issues with food and their dogs bowel habits changing.
Thanks
Puppy tax attached

2024.05.16 08:04 throwawayacc4798 Concerned, is this IBD or IBS or something temporary?

Hi all, I’ve been having a stomach problem recently. Little background, I am immunosuppressed due to a medication (Enbrel) for an autoimmune disease. It came on suddenly after a long bike ride last week, in which I initially had watery diarrhea for a couple days. I took loperamide/imodium as I was out with friends for that weekend and I didn’t want any stomach problems, but after dose 1 the problem remained (although may be my fault because I ate a cheap chicken sandwich?). I then switched completely to eating only about 4 bananas, two plain bagels and a bunch of bottled waters for the remainder of the weekend, and taking more Loperamide each day. When I returned home on Monday, the diarrhea returned as soon as I ate anything non-bland, so I returned to eating bland, mostly just rice and applesauce. Since then, I haven’t had diarrhea per say, but really loose stools that start looking solid but then fall apart and become mushy. They’re light brown/yellowish and have some kind of white fluffy looking mucus in them. Could this be something temporary? It came on suddenly, and most of the time my bowel movements are pretty normal, maybe a little light colored at times but I’ve always chalked that up to my bad diet. It’s lasted just over a week now. What are the odds this is some infection/gut bacteria thing (candida maybe?) as opposed to something new and permanent like IBS or Crohn’s? I’m praying, I really am praying it’s not something like that.

2024.05.16 04:41 SuperTurtle222 Is colon cancer a possibility?

To preface this, I do have an appointment scheduled where I’ll ask if a colonoscopy is possible.
About a month ago I started having cramps in my stomach, pebble like poops, headaches and on the same night it started, had red blood in the toilet bowl (not in the poop but in the water), I also noticed white mucus on one occasion.
For 2 weeks I didn’t know what was wrong with me, my poops have always been all over the place, sometimes normal, sometimes pebbles. Went to the doc’s where they did blood tests, urine samples, xrays of my stomach and chest and ultrasound of my testicles. What came back was that I was dehydrated and constipated. Doc said to drink stool softeners and it should take a few weeks to clear up.
I drank them for a week and poops gradually returned to normal, however - I still have days where they’re pebble like. So now I’m just playing in my head thinking about the blood and mucus and constipation. Is there any chance this could be colon cancer or is something like IBS more likely? I am 29 years old, 6’1 - 220 lbs and exercise 5 days a week, I’m otherwise healthy and don’t smoke or drink.
Any advice or insight would be amazing

2024.05.15 22:32 ihave10toes_AMA Lost mom to mystery illness, treated as stomach virus

My mom passed away in April and I’m really trying to make sense of it. I’d never seen her sick a day in my life, unless you count her sensitive stomach and treatment for high blood pressure. Then she was gone as soon as we got her a proper diagnosis. It sounds like Mesenteric Ischemia is very easy to miss, and I was frantically looking for posts about it while she was in the hospital. So I thought I’d share this.
Mom started getting sick around Thanksgiving. By mid-December it was bad enough that she could not travel for Christmas. She thought she had a stomach virus and said she didn’t have the energy to pack or drive and didn’t trust her stomach for a 3 hour drive. She started eating smaller meals to manage the virus.
Mid-February was her first ER visit. She was admitted & stayed 2 nights. Diagnosis was severe dehydration. Her white blood cell count was high, liver and kidneys ‘wacky’. She was nauseated, lethargic, foggy brain. CT examined her head, “every organ”. They did an ultrasound and told her it was not an organ. She was eating full meals by the time she was released.
One of the doctors at the ER asked her why she was there. He really treated her as though she was overreacting, and likely made her hesitate to seek care any more urgently, despite her decline.
After release she was told her blood sugar levels were high. She was diagnosed with hypokalemia (low potassium). She started working on a pre-diabetic diet but remained nauseated.
Mid-March a CT scan showed hiatal hernia and infection of some kind. She was dehydrated again. She hired someone for at-home IV treatments. She was drinking bone broth and drinks with electrolytes. A stool sample showed good results & her dr scheduled more blood tests. She had lost 25-30 lbs by this point.
Her dr scheduled an upper GI and colonoscopy for May 1st to look for ulcers, hernia. Blood test confirmed elevated white blood cells are caused by an infection and they’ve ruled out cancer.
April 1 – Dr told her she had stomach ulcers. After colonoscopy and endoscopy the dr is worried about blood flow to stomach. After a CT scan, she is referred to a vascular surgeon. They will do an ultrasound and consultation.
April 9 – Biopsies from colonoscopy are clear. Dr diagnosed clogged arteries around the stomach. Mesenteric Ischemia diagnosis. Scheduled an appointment to insert stents or look to bypass surgery.
April 10 – Admitted to ER for failure to thrive. TPN set up for nutrition. Plan is to build up her strength for the surgery.
April 13 – Dr ordered Xray to check for a possible bowel obstruction, lactic acid test to look for dead tissue / sepsis, hemoglobin test to check for internal bleeding. Mom has upper GI pain & cannot control her bowels. Very weak, unable to get up & down from bed on her own.
April 14 – Bowel obstruction found, ordering another x ray before deciding how to proceed. Backing off meals but keeping TPN, in order to let her stomach rest. (she was barely touching her food at all). Since bloodwork looks ok they think it could resolve itself.
April 15 – Dr says vitals are good, sugar levels are good. Surgery delayed, not because she is too weak but because she seems better. (I think this info was relayed to me wrong). They assured us waiting will not cause permanent damage to organs or tissue. Blood flow “looks better” and they “aren’t even sure it’s a blockage” now. Mom was able to do PT and OT but was extremely weak after. Surgeon impressed with cognition.
April 16 – Mom was in a lot of pain, and they thought it was from the PT & OT exertion. CT scan came back once again confirming the bowel obstruction. Intestines are dilated. Keeping TPN, antibiotics added to IV. Ordered another CT scan & fasting (other than TPN). Blood pressure was up & down all day. Feet swelling for the first time. Abdomen expanding to a degree my cousin noticed from her bedside.
April 17 –In the middle of the night she became unresponsive. Dr found her stomach full of blood. Her esophagus tore where it meets her stomach due to weak tissue. Her stomach was full of blood. She’s too weak for stents or bypass and will not regain strength without that. Dr thinks at this point her body is infected from bowel perforations & cannot heal

2024.05.15 20:47 superiortea45 Skin tag, infection, or some other thing?

Hello, For the past threeish weeks I’ve had this problem with a lump around my anus that is confusing the hell out of me. I’ve called six different doctors to try and get it checked out, all of whom either A.) don’t offer that service B.) don’t have an opening anytime soon or C.) don’t take my insurance/cost is expensive. I am willing to go with places like C if the severity is high enough, but I’m at a loss for what this is and if immediate treatment is needed. I’ll describe it below along with my symptoms.
Wednesday, three weeks ago: l notice that my anus burns, causing mild discomfort but no pain (unless I pass a stool, which have been normal, as have my bowel movements). It’s not itchy, and I feel fine other than that. I pass it off as not washing my asscrack well enough in my last shower.
Saturday: after cleaning well in my last shower, burning is still there. Not worse but not better either, though now it only burns when I poop and a little bit after. I take a look and find a small white bump inside the opening of my anus. Bump does not hurt to touch, am unable to tell if it’s full of pus or just looks like that cause it’s white all around rather than at the top like a whitehead. I could, of course, be wrong in my assessment.
At this point, I do some research, coming up with no conclusive ideas. Symptoms most align with hemorrhoids but it looks the most like infected anal abscess or skin tag. In the interim, I get hemorrhoid ointment and wipes to help with swelling. I have brief constipation but nothing crazy.
While I put medication on it, it gets irritated and flares up a bit, then dies down quickly. I minimize how often I touch it and keep everything clean.
A few days later: I get diarrhea for unrelated reasons (period), which makes the lump flare up. Flaring dies down the next day.
Now: Lump shrinks more, but is still there. No more burning or discomfort of any kind, hasn’t gotten worse in a week. Not once have I had symptoms of leaking, blood, itching, fever, major changes in bowel movement (with the explainable exceptions mentioned above). Rest of my anus looks perfectly fine.
I should also note that: I am not sexually active. I have never had sex with someone who has a penis, nor have I done anything related to my anus. I am fully vaccinated for all STIs (that you get can vaccines for, of course). The very few partners I’ve had in the past did not have any infections. I also haven’t had sex in over a year, so it can’t be from anything recent.
As of now, my symptoms are non-existent to the point I wouldn’t know it was there if I hadn’t seen it prior. Was curious if, based on all this, I should get it checked out ASAP or just wait till the far away appointment the doctors have openings for. Thank you!

2024.05.15 20:13 amandasanda Positive shiga toxin e. coli result after 7 weeks of nausea and GI issues

34F, 5'7", 125 lbs (lost 15 lbs during this), white Other conditions: hypothyroidism Medications: levothyroxine, liothyronine, sertraline Occasional social drinker, no drug use, no smoking
Hello docs, I would love some opinions on what's happening here. Below is a timeline of my symptoms and test results. My biggest symptom has been persistent, debilitating nausea after an initial GI "event." I spoke with a health department staff member who seems to think I most likely have not had the e. coli infection leading up to my results in week 6. My doctors are at a loss. Any advice and follow-up questions are welcome. Thank you so much.
Week 1: Sudden onset of extreme diarrhea and nausea that lasted for 4-5 days. Diarrhea was light in color and had an intense odor. *AST and ALT elevated (both 42 IU/L); Alkaline Phosphate low (39 IU/L)
Week 2: Vomited twice, debilitating nausea daily. Started taking Zofran and continued through present day. Became more constipated at end of week. *Neutrophils elevated (8.2 x10E3/uL); ALT elevated (53 IU/L); Alkaline Phosphate low (42 IU/L); RDW low (11.6%)
Week 3: Less intense nausea but still debilitating during waves. Can only eat limited amounts. Constipation.
Week 4: Vomited once. Waves of nausea daily. Regurgitation after eating. Light coating on stool and smelly gas and stool. *Calprotectin elevated (173 ug/g); ALT elevated (34 IU/L)
Week 5: Bloating and nausea. Fatigue. Appetite coming back but can't eat much more than a couple bites.
Week 6: Continuted symptoms as week 5. Less bloating. Some normal-colored stool. *Stool tested positive for shiga toxic e. coli; ALT elevated (35 IU/L)
Week 7: Watery diarrhea for approximately five days, followed by constipation and light-colored stool. Nausea.
Negative hep panel, uti; clean abdominal and pelvic scans; no blockages

2024.05.15 19:09 azarnijestos Terrified about pancreatic cancer, bilirubin results slightly worrying

22M
193cm
White
Non-US citizen, from Bosnia and Herzegovina
No existing medical issues or medications
Around the 20th or so of April, I went in to the emergency ward for testicular pain. Afterwards they sent me to and ultrasound specialist to look at the issue. The doctor doing the ultrasound drifted up towards my abdomen and spent a while looking at it. He mentioned "the head of the pancreas seemed slightly enlarged".
I was automatically fasttracked for a CT scan of the abdomen with contrast. The CT scan came back clear, no pancreatic duct dilation, size and shape of pancreas within normal range, no masses found.
I was terrified to say the least. A week later I went to a private laboratory to have my CA 19-9 levels measured to finally rest, and the results came back as 4.41 u/mL.
I was content with this until three days ago when I started having some heart burn issues. I was a goddamn idiot and drank like two tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate and gave myself pure watery diarrhea. That passed but the last two days I've had some heartburn and today my first stool seemed pale. The second one a few hours later was brown but mushy and loose. I got scared and took out a bilirubin, amylase, lipase and another CA 19-9 marker test.
The amylase came back as 81 u/L, the lipase 32 u/L and the CA 19-9 as 3.01 u/mL. That was all fine but my total bilirubin came back as 16 umol/L, indirect as 10.70 umol/L and direct bilirubin as 5.30 umol/L.
Should I be worried about the higher end of normal results I got back, especially since my direct bilirubin seems to teetering on the edge of abnormal? Should I get etsted again, and what could explain these slightly higher than average results?

She crossed the Rainbow Bridge at nearly 20 years old. This is her story- 💙
Hi everyone! First post to the community- I’m happy to say that I finally got the courage to join. This post took almost 2 months to muster up as I couldn’t even stand writing about this- but here I go.
I lost my Aussie that I grew up with for almost 20 years in August of 22’ and it feels like I will never get over the loss of her. She was my absolute best friend in the whole world. Now- many people say their dog is their best friend. But, let me give you some context…
I was an only child, and my first memory was my mom taking me to a ranch to pick out my very first puppy. Out of the 25 puppies that flocked out of the barn doors, only one ran up to my feet with a small tennis ball in tow. I knew she was the one for me then and there- She chose me, so I chose her.
She tolerated my youth ear and nub pulling phase, my games of Hannah Montana dress up, solo concerts, throwing myself from the highest bunk bed and playing lassie, playing vet, and eventual subsequent makeshift agility courses that I set up with bar stools and pop-up tunnels when I turned 10-11. Never once did she shy away from this, almost participating with joy in every moment we spent together.
I was an only child so you can imagine how lonely I was, (Many people don’t have this experience as an only child, but it was mine-) Growing up with a single mom that had an addiction- most of the time it was just me and my dog, and we had to fend for ourselves most nights.
She was there for me after I was SAed when I was 7- unable to communicate what had happened to anyone but her in fear of embarrassment or shame, but I could talk to her- she’d listen to me with nothing but sympathy in those big blue eyes of hers. She was with me when we lost our apartment, moving back in with my grandmother who blatantly hated me because I wasn’t fully white like her other grandchildren. She was with me when I contemplated calling the cops on my mother when she was passed out on the floor of the bathroom and I couldn’t wake her up and I thought she was dead. She was there for me when I was bullied in school for being overweight, unable to eat most healthy things because I was making my own meals most nights. She was there when I got into my preferred high school program that was over an hour away from home, waking me up with a wagging tail despite knowing I’d have to leave at 4am to catch a bus and wouldn’t return until later that night. She was there when I got together with my now fiancé, accepting him into the family as long as he tossed the ball for her a few times- as a lover of football, it was easy to get him to play with her for hours, which she adored. She was there for me when my fiancé and I moved into a small shed away from home, no a/c, no bathroom, no running water, she tagged along happily in the tight living quarters. She comforted me when I found out my grandfather had dementia and he was declining quickly, she whimpered when I cried that we’d have to return to my abusive grandmothers house to take care of him- knowing I’m subjecting myself to a world of pain to care for the one person who was always kind to me. She mediated my fights with my mother, as we ended up arguing most nights about her addiction and how it has affected me in my life.
Despite how many hardships I went through, and how many times I couldn’t find the courage to get out of bed in the morning- she always kept me going. Knowing that someone had stuck by me through my whole life and didn’t even have a thought of leaving my side, made me feel wanted in life.
Not long after I turned 18 years old, she became unable to control her bladder. Many suggested I put her down due to it being an ‘inconvenience’ but I refused- she had so much left to give, and I didn’t mind cleaning up after her mess despite how the tile ended up stained and how much we spent on diapers she’d only kick off moments after putting them on. No one knew how little I cared to be covered in pet urine as long as I got to embrace my dog that cared for me for so long.
When I turned 19, she couldn’t hold her poop anymore, doing her business anywhere and everywhere. I didn’t care, I cleaned it up. She was still my best friend, she took care of me- so I’ll take care of her. She then lost her ability to hear me, so I spoke louder. What’s wrong with screaming ‘I love you’ to a dog that got so excited whenever you said it? If anything it helped me express myself louder than usual, as I am a quiet person. A few months later, she couldn’t play ball as much as she wanted to, getting winded by her arthritis and aging lungs. Then on my 21st birthday, she lost the ability to use her hind legs. I didn’t care, I started looking up dog wheelchairs- because why not? She was still a puppy in my eyes, she had so much time left despite nearing 20 years old. My fiancé warned me that the time may be near, but I ignored him. She’d never die. She couldn’t. She’d live forever. I flipped her position few times a day, fed and watered her, gave her tons of treats, Carried her inside and outside to enjoy the sun. Anything I could do that I knew would lift her spirits.
But 2 weeks after my 21st birthday, I woke up to her whining. Not unusual, since she couldn’t sleep in bed with us anymore and had to sleep at the foot of our bed on a large pillow, but this time I heard a thud. Creeping to the edge of the bed I was met with the most horrifying sight- she was seizing. I jumped off the bed, cradling her as I tried to keep her from throwing herself off of her pillow and hitting her head. My fiancé watched in silence, but he didn’t dare suggest she was getting close to passing, as it had caused fights between us before. I REFUSED to believe my best friend was dying, it had to be a one time thing… Right?
We got maybe a few hour break before it happened again, then again… I had to make the call. She hated the vet, I couldn’t bring her there. I scoured the internet for hours, trying to find a Vet that does home visits. I made an appointment for the morning. Despite the lady driving out and taking one look at my beautiful Aussie and sighing, I immediately asked her if she can pull through this, If there was an alternative, ANYTHING to keep her from leaving my side. My fiancé put his hand on my shoulder, offering what little comfort he thought I could get from what the Vet said next. There was no hope. No enticing her to eat with pieces of sliced cheese, no magical medication to cure her, no quality of life that I could give to a dog so determined to keep living. I didn’t cry, I still held hope, even when the Vet injected her with medication to make her sleep before the final injection. I felt her relax into my arms, so I thought just maybe that would help her sleep it off. But once the lady held up the syringe with the bright pink liquid, I couldn’t stop staring at it. She asked me only once if I was ready, and I said yes immediately- blind to the thought that this would be the last time I would get to hold her warmth. She proceeded slowly, and in the moment I felt no fear- as I thought “She’s too strong for this shot, she’ll pop back up in no time afterwards with a new vigor for life! I’ll prove them all wrong!”… I didn’t know what was to come. Her chest stopped rising, and her nose began to grow cold. I don’t know how many hours I sat by her body waiting for her to wake up. I don’t remember my fiancé leaving the room to pay her for her kind service, I don’t remember him suggesting we bury her before she grew stiff, I don’t remember anything other than her blank stare that never left the vacant space of the wall. It took until later that night for us to start digging, and once we were done, I kept glancing at her body in hopes that she may have changed her mind, that she’d come back to me. It was just a cruel game.
Laying her down in her final resting place, i scowled at the flies that soon began to circle around us. How could they disturb us?! She clearly wasn’t dead…. Just, recovering. But after my fiancé filled the grave, and I dug a tiny hole for her to breath through if she decided to come back. It finally hit me. She was gone. For the first time in my life I was truly alone. I cradled her harness, her tennis ball, my childhood picture of me holding her up to the camera in my stubby arms- and I waited by her grave. I couldn’t leave.
I truly don’t remember much afterwards, other than the empty sorrow that built in my chest- since it never left. I could never love again. Not another person, not another dog. My fiancé saw the change in me, I never left the bed, I didn’t shower, I didn’t eat. I lost 60 pounds. I didn’t care, I just wanted my best friend.
Fast forward to March of 23’ when I found out I was pregnant. First there was an insurmountable joy that I’d now have purpose in life, but then the same ache hit in my chest that I felt the day my best friend died. My sweet Aussie would never get to see me become a mother, she’d never get to see me be married, she’d never get to raise my child as she raised me. The things I always thought she’d be there for, she would never get to see.
I’m 5 months into being a mother now, and still grieving. We’ve thought of getting another dog, but I couldn’t stand even looking at another puppy. I didn’t have the capacity in my heart to go through this again. But will I neglect my own child of feeling this kind of bond with a pet? Of love that is unmatched by a dog companion? Will I continue to neglect my fiancés love for animals due to my fear of my Aussie looking down from wherever she is and feeling betrayed that I replaced her? I’m rambling at this point, but god it’s been so hard. I miss her so much. She was my everything. Even now I struggle with the thought that I could love my baby just as much as I loved my dear Aussie. Is that even normal? It’s been almost 2 years, and I still feel empty.
Despite this post being very self-loathing, I just wanted to get my feelings out and find some peace that anyone else has felt this way. Is it just me? Will this ever go away? Senior dog owners, will this pain ever pass? 🥲
Sincerely,
A girl who misses her best friend. I love you P. 💔

Updated Partycade Corner
I finally got around to painting the hanging brackets white to match the door, and installing cord cover to run the power under the door. I’m really happy with how clean it looks now. I’m still trying to track down an NBA Jam stool, if anyone has one for sale.

2024.05.15 17:07 gnassar Puppy breathing staggered - potential intestinal blockage?

Hello there,
There is some backstory to this that I couldn't figure out how to include in the title, please bear with me:
About 4 days ago we realized Watson was breathing very rapidly at rest. We live in a very cold place, it had just started warming up, and his coat is the longest it's ever been, so we assumed that he was just too hot (23-26 Celsius in some rooms of the house) and booked an appointment with the groomer to get him a trim.
He was still eating and drinking normally, urinating normally, gums were pink, I think he might have been having less bowel movements but I'm unsure because we brought him over to my girlfriend's parents for the better part of the two days after noticing this (and he roams their large backyard with their two dogs), so he might have had many or 0 bowel movements over there, I also felt his stomach and it felt normal. His behavior this whole time was mostly normal (maybe a little bit subdued, but I assumed it was because he was tired from hanging out with his uncles so much). For the sake of the timeline, this is all that happened the first 2 of 4 days (day 4 being today).
Yesterday around 5am he woke us up because he was trying to throw up. He heaved a few times, and nothing ended up coming up other than white foam. He seemed to recover quickly from this, and we went back to bed. I told my girlfriend that if he was still exhibiting any weird symptoms in the morning I would take him to the vet.
Woke up later that morning, and he seemed back to normal. His breathing had slowed down to a normal rate, he ate his breakfast, I took him on a walk in the morning and he was behaving totally normal. He also passed a "good" stool (firm, solid normal color) on our walk. We got home and I went to pick up old his stools from our yard (routine after a walk) when I noticed an unusual one (that had to have been within the last 24h, exactly when I'm not sure as we let him out often while we are getting ready for work/bed/otherwise unable to watch him).
The stool I found had a bunch of tape coiled up inside of it, which I remembered had been a loose strand of tape that was sitting on my desk that he must have pulled off and eaten (uncoiled, the kind of tape where you have to peel the bottom off to expose the sticky side). We hadn't had an issue with him eating things that aren't food in a long time so I let my guard down.
It all started making sense, I thought that he must have been in pain/discomfort from eating the tape which explained the heavy breathing for the couple of days until he passed it in his stool. Since he was mostly back to normal I thought nothing of it.
Starting last night and continuing to this morning I noticed that his breathing, although much slower and normal rate-wise, has changed to be a much deeper, staggered breathing. I don't know how to describe this other than staggered, maybe staged? He will inhale about 60% of the breath initially, then 30% more, then the last 10%. His mouth is closed while he's doing this (sleeping/resting the times that I have noticed it). Google has been woefully unhelpful in looking this up (probably because I have no idea what the kind of breathing is actually called)).
At this point I'm concerned that there is still some tape stuck in his guts somewhere. The piece that he ate was quite long, and I didn't extract/unravel it from inside his stool to see how much of it had come out there, but nor could I find any remnants of un-eaten tape anywhere. Is this kind of seemingly labored breathing characteristic of a blockage, and should I be concerned?
I'm hesitant to go to the vet right away because
A. I've taken Watson there probably 10 times for minor issues, every time I have they do the exact same checks that I mentioned above (feel his stomach, check gums, behaviour, eating and bowel regularity) and then send us off almost with an air of like "you guys need to relax he will be fine"
B. With the above in mind, it isn't exactly cheap
Reasons I think he does not have a blockage: -His most recent stool was a good one -His eating habits are the same -His behavior is normal
Reasons I think he might still have a blockage: -His breathing?? Not sure if this is indicative of anything because as I mentioned, google no help this -The timeline of his dry-heaving in the morning doesn't add up for me. I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty positive that the stool with the tape in it happened the night before the dry-heaving, so why would he dry-heave if the blockage had already been excreted. He has not tried to throw up, or anything similar since. -He has always coughed more than your average dog (he loves eating quickly and then chasing that down with big gulps of water), but he has been coughing a bit "deeper" this last day or so? This could be me worrying, but thought I would mention
Looking for advice on what to do, and if these symptoms are indicative of anything or if I'm just being my normal hypochondriac self :/
Thank you for your time.
