Tylenol sinus and allegra

2024.05.17 02:58 steph8241 Frustrated that sinusitis and silent reflux have the same symptoms and I feel like I can't figure out which one it is because both treatments cause dry mouth and my main issue is dry mouth/throat/nose so treatments are just making it worse. (venting)

Since January I've experienced all kinds of sinus and throat issues after getting a virus in December and taking antibiotics. I've had a tight, swollen feeling throat, incredibly dry mouth, tingling and burning tongue, intense pressure above my teeth when in hot weather, post nasal drip, dry nasal passages, random stuffiness in my nose that comes and goes, dry nose, and stiff neck. The symptoms have changed and evolved over the last couple months. The tongue tingling confused all my doctors which led to me getting an endoscopy that came back fine. I was told I had chronic sinusitis two weeks into being sick, which confused me how he knew it was chronic so early. Over the last couple months I've tried Allegra which made me worse because of the dryness, Neil Med which my nose was too swollen to get it to go through the other side, and Budesonide steroid spray which gave me heart palpitations. I had a lump in my throat feeling in January so my gastro doctor told me I'm probably having silent reflux again and put my on omeprazole. Within two days I've developed an even worse dry mouth and now my tongue tingling is back because I'm realizing that it's the dryness that's causing the tingling. At this point every medicine has made me feel worse and now I'm scared of both trying new medicines and eating food because I'm confused if I actually have acid reflux or not. I feel so lost and I feel like I can't try any medicine to treat whichever I have because I think dry nasal passages are actually causing all my symptoms and all the medicines also cause dryness.

2024.05.16 21:37 Kirin1212San Can post nasal drip lead to or cause an infection? And do allergists easily prescribe antibiotics?

I’ve been having issues with the area under my jaw being swollen for a couple of weeks. No pain in the beginning, just varying degrees of discomfort. At its worst it felt like someone was always lightly choking me/applying pressure to the area. And the swelling sometimes felt like it went up to my ears.
I did see my allergies for it and was told it’s post nasal drip and I should use the Neilmed sinus rinse more than once a day and to gargle with salt water. And also take more allergy medication since I was only take one Allegra a day.
Swelling and discomfort didn’t improve so the allergist has prescribed me prednisone.
There were times where it was hard to swallow and hard to pass food down, but that was only for a couple of days.
The swelling always gets worse when I eat, but my allergist says I shouldn’t be having an allergic reaction to food since I only has OAS and the anti histamines and prednisone would prevent any food related reaction. Then refered me to a gastroenterologist for possible EoE.
Long story short, I did see a gastroenterologist and it’s not a gastro issue.
It’s been a couple of weeks and I’m now tapering down on the prednisone.
As I’m tapering down I’m starting to feel more like how I felt before I started taking the prednisone. So I’m sort of regressing.
Now I’m starting to think I have an infection. More specifically a salivary gland infection. Which is why I’m swelling even more almost immediately after starting to eat.
New symptoms which started 2 days ago include dull head pressure/ headache and also a sore throat.
I did have a sinus infection and concretion in the cheek area last year and it took going to see my doctor and then an ENT and a CT scan for them to give me antibiotics.
I’m seeing my allergist in a couple of days for a follow up appointment and hoping they can diagnose and prescribe me antibiotics if I am correct.
However my experience last year leads me to believe it might not be so easy. I really think going to an ENT again is overkill so I would like to avoid that.
Basically how easily does an allergist prescribe antibiotics?

2024.05.16 15:22 thedragonwolf55 facial pain and throat inflammation.

Hello, I would like to describe my current health issue to you, including my hypotheses about what might be causing it. I would like to hear your opinions on what it might be and how I should proceed. Keep in mind that I am already undergoing medical consultations and will have more, but so far, I have not reached a conclusion, so I would like as many opinions as possible.
If you need more information, feel free to ask.
For about two years, I have been experiencing facial pain and throat inflammation. I have never had these issues before. They started occurring after I had COVID-19, and I'm not sure if this is coincidental or a consequence of the virus. Initially, these pains were infrequent and mild, but in the past few months, they have become much more frequent and intense, significantly affecting my productivity, energy, and concentration. The pain is mostly noticeable upon waking, but sometimes it persists throughout the day. When the pain is less intense, it almost completely disappears after breakfast or lunch. However, when it is more severe, it doesn't go away at all, forcing me to rest in bed. Sometimes, even taking Tylenol does not relieve the pain.
The facial pain is located under my cheekbones, along my jaw, behind my eyes, and when it's very intense, at the center of my head just above my nose. The pain is continuous on both sides of my face and does not worsen with touch.
As for my throat, it feels like there's a constant lump at the lower part, as if it were scratched. It hurts continuously, not just when I swallow.
These pains occur year-round, regardless of the season.
Regarding medical checks and existing conditions, here are the details:
These issues also cause poor sleep quality. Despite sleeping for 7-8 hours, I wake up feeling tired and as if I need more rest, even if I did not exert myself physically or mentally the previous day.
From the beginning of May onwards, I experienced two weeks where every day I had a sore throat, headaches, and excessive tiredness, despite having taken antihistamines and cortisone spray for more than 20 days in April. I had a flu in early May and felt very ill; all symptoms (sore throat, cold, headache) were amplified and kept me in bed for several days, as if I had COVID. Even after the flu passed, I continued to experience throat lumps and headaches, along with excessive tiredness that rest did not alleviate.
I maintain a fairly balanced diet and engage in regular physical activity. I am physically at a normal weight.
My hypotheses:
Thank you to anyone who provides suggestions.

2024.05.15 23:46 drstinkweed Migraine pain

My dudes, my body has been doing the strangest stuff in the past two weeks. At the end of April early may I did give plasma three times, not sure if this had anything to do with it. But around Sunday of last week, I caught a headcold, that only showed symptoms of extreme hay fever that I get every year. I thought my Allegra D had worn off. Now this week, starting Saturday morning I woke up with a migraine. I have GERD so I cant take ibuprofen or it will hurt. So I took some Tylenol and alieve, and (I think) it caused my stomach to feel very sore. Then two days later my back muscles are sore with my migraine that hurts so much when I bend over or change from standing to laying down. I have been taking magnesium, copious amounts of cbd and thc, I've tried caffine(green tea), I haven't tried turmeric because it usually upsets my GERD, and circumin isolated is expensive so I havent tried that either. Maybe I need to just buy some butterbur and circumin and hope I can make rent, because I have to go to work tomorrow :( Any thoughts?

2024.05.15 04:55 BettyBlue1122 Septoplasty and mini FESS preparation

Hi all,
I'm about to get a Septoplasty and mini FESS (to remove a fungal ball that's been causing chronic sinusitis).
I just want to see if there's anything I should add to help with recovery. I've done some research but want to make sure I haven't missed anything.
So far I have - Humidifier (I also have a range of essential oils if anyone would recommend I use any?) - Lip chap - Tissues - Panadol (Australia's Tylenol) and ibuprofen - Lots of pillows - Nasal aspirator (like used for babies) - Q tips, facial cleaning wipes and cotton pads - Loose, comfy clothes. All freshly washed - Microwave meals, I've opted for all softer meals and soups. - Lots of ice packs - Bottled water
Thanks everyone!

2024.05.14 02:23 savleighhh Itchy skin everywhere and warm “sun burnt” feeling

I’ve had allergies my whole life. The usual runny nose, sneezing, sinus headache etc. but now I’m experiencing itchy skin everywhere, all over my back, arms, and legs. There isn’t any redness, but my skin feels warm like I’m slightly sunburnt, but I’m not. I found that it gets worse when I spend time outside, which is why I assume it’s allergies. I stopped spending time outside for a week and it stopped, but now it’s back. Does anyone have any advice? Going to an allergist isn’t an option right now so any advice is helpful.
I take Allegra every night. Flonase in the morning. Arm & Hammer Saline Spray morning and night. I shower every morning and evening.

2024.05.13 22:42 ImSharpy Medication and supplements

Hello all, just an update.
Here’s a list of things that absolutely helped my condition:
Allegra 120mg not Allegra-D - histamine response, daily Aspirin baby 81mg - palpitations, when needed Tylenol for pain, adult dose - back, joint when needed Gabapentin 200mg - nerve pain Famotidine - heartburn, when needed Vitamin D, C and Niacin Curcumin
Low histamine diet- I’m not following strictly but I have been avoiding gluten, and sugary foods helps a ton! Short walks, pacing Massage/acupuncture And of course rest.
Not sure if these helped: Coq10 Ashwargandha
Let me know what worked for you! There as shitty days as usual, my gp refuses to diagnose me. So far only symptomatic suggestions and referrals. family and friends are gaslighting, saying Its all in my head. I am still off work for 7 months. If you have any more suggestions please comment. Is anyone else concerned taking all this medication and supplements? It’s been a lil over a year and going rough! Keep going guys.

2024.05.13 18:20 Virgomoon91 I have a brain AVM & would greatly appreciate a second opinion on DIHYDROERGOTAMINE (DHE) FOR MIGRAINE TREATMENT. 🥺🥲

32, Female 5’2, 165
Issue:
I was diagnosed with a brain AVM in 2009 - 3 gamma knife treatments in 2019 to treat it once over & had a “blood brain barrier leak” (I think?) in February 2023.
I have never been prescribed a triptan until my new dr 2 months ago… when I asked if it was safe he asked me how “living in the box” was treating me. - I appreciated his confidence until I took my first dose because I felt like my head was going to explode.
He now wants me to get this “DHE” infusion that works similarly to a triptan with a black box warning of “fatal cerebral ischemia” 😳 when I KINDLY reminded him of my negative reaction to one dose of the triptan & asked him if he still thought it was a good idea he told me that it was good to do my research but that everything has a laundry list of side effects, even Tylenol & not to worry….
Is anyone able to offer a second opinion on this medication & Brain AVMs? I’m nervous 😥
BRAIN MRI NOTES:
Extensive abnormality in the posterior right temporal lobe, occipital lobe and parietal lobe. This is a combination of abnormal vasculature consistent with patent AVM/angiomatous transformation but also vasogenic edema and ill-defined white matter enhancement that is very likely radiation necrosis.
The FLAIR and T2 abnormality extends to involve the splenium of the corpus callosum. The enhancement is in the posterior most right temporal and inferior parietal/occipital region that is very likely radiation necrosis given appearance with ill-defined irregular primarily subcortical white matter enhancement. An additional similar globular irregular enhancement in the medial right parieto-occipital region medial to the occipital horn and atrium of lateral ventricle is also noted unchanged. In addition, there are enhancing vessels, angiomatous transformation and/or feeding arteries/veins related to the still patent AVM in the right hemisphere. These are most prominent in the high right parietal lobe. There is a single globular prominent cortical venous drainage in the right parietal region that extends to the sagittal sinus which appears patent. The extensive vasogenic edema and nonvascular enhancement likely radiation necrosis is stable.
The AVM is supplied by distal right MCA and PCA branches with dominant cortical venous drainage superiorly to the sagittal sinus. There are areas of substantial T2*hypointensity in the right parieto-occipital region in the deep white matter and in the subcortical region consistent with areas of hemosiderin staining or embolic material/calcification.
Medication: topamax 200mg 2x qulipta10mg , gabapentin 100mg 2x vyvanse 50 clonidine 0.1 vitamin d

2024.05.13 07:10 ComManDerBG When should I go to the hospital for a headache? With a twist.

Age 28
Sex Male
Height 6
Weight 165 lbs
Race Caucasian
Duration of complaint 12 hours to several weeks
Location Head
Any existing relevant medical issues Lots
Current medications Lyrica, Oxycodone
When should I go to the hospital for a headache?
Ive had a headache for about 12 hours straight now and its literally the worst I've ever had in my life. I know that gets said a lot, but its genuinely true in this case.
The thing is for the last few weeks I've been getting headaches here and there, each one maybe slightly worst thet the last. Me and my dr both assumed its been some kind of sinus issue but the pain is moving away from my sinus, and for this one my sinuses dont hurt at all plus my nose is clear, my ears aren't clogged, there is no pressure on the usual areas for sinus pain even up high behind the eyes or nose.
Each headache has been worse then the last and even when there isn't a headache I also have this persistent slight pressure/pain going on as well.
This one in particular just exploded out of no where, nothing to max pain and its just stayed.
Ive been vomiting to for a bit, but thats stopped for a while though,
Ive taken Advil, Tylenol, Aleve, Lyrica, Ocycodone and none have helped (even the last one, and I took a larger dose).
The parts that hurt are visibly slightly redder if that means anything.
There is a complicating issue, otherwise I would have just gone by now. I have some kind of long standing mystery illness, I know that sounds like hypochondriacatic bullshit but its legit. I get these "flare ups" that are accompanied by various symptoms that will, without fail, get me admitted to the hospital, fever, low blood pressure, high heart rate, my while body goes a deep crimson red, and I experience just the worst burning pain imaginable all over in my skin, its horrible. Ive been dealing with those plus a bunch of other things for about 10 years now and have be very sick I nthe past, including numerous ICU admissions and codes etc.
I knows this might come off as some kind of illnessfaker fan fiction, but please just stick with me.
The issue is thanks to the "mystery" nature of this illness and the pain combination ive been frequently accused of drug seeking, usually right before I pass out because my BP is around the 50s. It's gotten so bad that one ER has just straight up blacklisted me after an incident where they accidentally gave me a medication I was allergic to by IV that caused an explosive amount of pain, for which they mistook as a tantrum to get more drugs. The drug allergy is very well documented but unfortunately its also the first go to for a situation (its Gravol).
Anyways, there a bunch if hospitals that are still fine with me, as the issue is documented and known enough that even though they are weary they still treat is as an actual issue. Honestlyits usually just the hospitalists and internalists that have issues since they only ever see the early stages, not the later stages. I'll start with pain, then other symptoms will filter though, after about a day I go from "he just wants dilaudid" to "better call a code".
But still, i have this "on thin ice" feeling. So now I absolutely do not want to go unless its absolutely for a tangible reason. If I just show up with untraceable head pain that isn't anything else they'll just take it as evidence that km seeking narcotics or something.
So when I say its the worst I've ever had i mean it. And im clutching and groaning all that (typing this out was actually hell), but im worried that instead dog being seen as a sign of actual pain it'll just be seen as histrionics or something. I genuinely feel like I'm om a rock and a hard place. Specifically the rock and hard place of slamming against my skull.
I really hate this.

2024.05.12 06:18 dombrogia Poison oak reaction?

I did some weedwacking in my back yard last weekend, including a known patch of poison oak. I’m familiar with it, I’ve had it a handful of times including once or twice pretty aggressively. But I haven’t had it in 5-6 years probably. I did good covering up and even wore a good n95 style mask while weedwacking but did another 2-3 hours of shrub clean and bush trimming without the mask.
2ish days later I get a small quarter sized poison oak rash right on my forehead where my brow was sweating under my hat — all in all it’s a relief for how little it was and it’s probably the smallest amount of poison oak I’ve had at once time.
That same day I had the rash flare up (2 days after yard work) I got a hell of a sore throat and sinus situation going on. Could this be part of the allergic reaction from the poison oak? Seems weird that it would be allergies from the other bush trimmings 2 days later and the fact they came on the same day is interesting.
I’m not conceded medically, I am taking one Benadryl and 1-2 Tylenol a day for the sinus headache and doing just fine. I’m just curious where this sinus situation came from. It seems weird that if it were from the bush trimmings (which did have a good amount of pollinated dander going everywhere) that it would take a few days to hit me.

I had multiple procedures ;basically a sinus reconstruction and I’m still too inflamed to drive. I can drive in my apartment complex but that’s it for now. Tylenol doesn’t help the pain! And Norco just makes me nauseous.
Was on prednisone for two weeks and prednisone makes me feel worse. How long did it take you to get normalcy? I have a third post op follow up where the PA will drain my blood and mucus out on Tuesday.

2024.05.11 21:15 snug666 Middle ear infection secondary to respiratory infection getting worse

WARNING, PICTURES OF MY INFLAMED RED EARS IN THE COMMENTS
I (F23, history of asthma) went to urgent care on Wednesday because I’ve had chest congestion for a week and a half now. Hacking cough, loads of mucus and basically choking on it when i breathe. Tested Neg for COVID. No fever body aches chills or other flu symptoms. The congestion has moved now from my chest to my head, sinuses, and ears.
When I was at the doctors I only had slightly muffled hearing and no pain, but the doctor said my right ear looked red. She said my lungs didn’t sound bad but I was a bit wheezy. I was told to take the following meds: - Sudafed 60mg/4hours - Flonase 24 hour once a day - Claritin 24 hour once a day - Benzonatate 1mg 3x/day for 7 days - Amoxicillin 875mg 2x/day for 10 days - Tylenol as needed - Albuterol inhaler 2x/day
I’ve been taking them all and have been noticing an improvement in my respiratory symptoms after I take them (not constant), but holy hell my ears.
The second I got home from urgent care i started having pain in my left ear. That night I blew my nose and got vertigo so bad I fell over and my ear was blocked for two hours.
My head feels like a balloon and my ears are KILLING me. I can barely hear and it feels like i have earplugs in, so much pressure. The pain woke me up out of my sleep last night. The pain is also radiating down my neck.
She told me if i lost my hearing or had increasing pain to come back, but i don’t know if she’s even going to do anything about it. I’m already on a bunch of meds. Any way I can help the pain and congestion? Should I go see her?

2024.05.11 18:04 Aaasteve Antihistamine recommendations?

Every year about this time, I get very runny noses, presumably from allergies even though I’ve twice tested negative for any serious reactions (supposedly I’m a little allergic to a bunch of stuff).
Benadryl works okay, but makes me a bit drowsy and I’ve read it’s not good to take it for an extended time (whatever ‘extended’ means, days, weeks, months?)
And the 2nd gen stuff doesn’t work. I’ve tried Allegra, Astepro, Fluticasone Propionate and Zyrtec.
I use Sudafed every now and then in the morning to help me clear out the overnight accumulation, but I usually don’t get congested, no sinus pressure.
Any other recommendations? OTC preferably, but prescription would be okay.
Thanks.

2024.05.11 09:33 BrokenMom1027 Mcas or adhd or Heds... or hell?

I traveled or of the country last week and returned this week. I have been home for 3 days. I have all of the above conditions and don't know where to focus. On my travel day I was bloated to start. But by the time I arrived home after 6 hours in a plane and 3 hours walking around airports on 3 hrs of sleep, my feet and ankles were three times their normal size. I wore medical compression leggings and tried to where compression ankle support but it hurt too much. I also drank water and pumped my feet. Then my feet and hands have been throbbing and stiff, my left knee and shoulder hurt badly due to a fall on vacation, and my sinuses, head, and stomach have been irritated. In addition to all this, i have been overstimulated and irritable this evening. I already take cromolyn and LDN, pepcid, omeprozol, singulair, Allegra, and a sinus spray plus a litany of others. What else can I do to move past this. I'm having very negative thoughts and not sure how much more pain I can take before just keeling over. Open to suggestions.

2024.05.11 09:18 Ok-Duck9106 Haemophilus Influenzae Beta lactase positive 24 days, 3 round of steroids, 3 different antibiotics, why am I not getting better? What are my options?

I am 24 days in on being sick with HIBs, I am a female, in my 50’s. I am overweight, not a diabetic. HIBs with insanely severe sore throat, ear infection, sinusitis, eye infection, diarrhea, cough, headache, tired, fever on and off(taking Tylenol). As soon as I finish the steroids and the antibiotics, any relief disappears and I am dropped back where I started.
I am on my 3rd round of steroids and antibiotics, cough meds and I was given lidocaine wash. They started with amoxicillin, then amoxicillin clavinate, then a shot of antibiotics two days ago(not sure the name) and the 3rd round of steroids.
The eye infection has cleared, not the ear infection, I see an Ear doc on Monday to see if a tube is needed to clear the ear. The throat does well while on antibiotics and steroids, but when the antibiotics and steroids stop, within 8-12 hours I am experiencing the extreme throat pain, cough, no appetite, fever, and just feel like I did in the beginning. I have lost 23 lbs.
Is this normal? I don’t feel like this is normal, I would expect to be better, sustainably so after all these meds. I can’t live on these meds forever, so what can I be asking or doing that can get me better? I am exhausted and frustrated and worried.
I did ask if they checked resistance to antibiotics and they are running another culture.

2024.05.11 08:20 Additional-Ad6095 Sinus surgery recovery experience!

Hello, I'm a 20f who just got a septoplasty, bony spur removal, turbinate reduction, polyp/cyst removal, and then pretty much every reduction possible in all my sinuses, all the total -ectomys or however you spell it. Thought I'd make kind of a big surgery recovery post that I'd keep adding to as seeing some other similar posts set up like this have really helped me before and after the procedure! Also I kind of just want to complain to a space with people who fully understand my suffering / I also really need something to do lol.
Day 0 pre-surgery -
Blergh. It was daunting to say the least going in to the surgery clinic knowing the not-fun-at-all recovery process that laid ahead of me. Was so anxious I didn't sleep and then had a full mental breakdown by the time I was in all the full hospital gear laying down on that uncomfortable patient bed. If you suffer from health anxiety much like me I'd recommend asking for some anti-anxiety meds before going in because I was a nervous wreck. After the IV was in and I was calming down thanks to the cocktail of drugs they gave me, both the anesthesiologist and my ENT surgeon came in to do a final run through of everything. The anesthesia kicked in and I was soon knocked out.
Day 0 post-surgery -
Woke up what felt like a minute later with burning pain everywhere in my sinuses and throat. Not fun! Begged for pain meds and took my first oxy pill. I couldn't keep my eyes open because the bright light in the hospital room really hurt my head. Once I was at a more comfortable pain level, I was sent home. I kept my head back in that passenger seat with my eyes still slammed shut super sensitive to light. My family tried to show me some of those medical pictures the surgeon took of the nastiness he removed but my post-anesthesia nausea was NOT having it lol. I pretty much laid in my bed the rest of the day, towels over every single part of my bedroom windows where light was coming through. I just sat there, sleeping in 20-minute increments because I was sitting upright in the dark and waiting for my next dosage of painkillers. Nothing painful after leaving the hospital, just uncomfortable and boring.
24 hours after, Day 1 -
Woke up (didn't sleep much.... by "woke up" I mean sat up in bed around 6 am) feeling not terrible. Much like yesterday, nothing really painful, just uncomfortable. Like many others have said, mouth breathing makes the throat hurt and my lips are so dry. It's hard to eat/drink because not only do I have a reduced appetite, sipping or chewing anything is kind of suffocating when you can't breathe through your nose at all. I've been able to smell and taste just fine though, so that's a win. This was also a slow, boring day. In the increments of time where I wasn't actively super sleepy on painkillers, I was just kind of laying around watching videos on my phone with low brightness thanks to my eyes still being kind of sensitive to light. My day slowly passed me by as I used all my antibiotic alarms as little checkpoints as well as changing the gauze under my nose every two hours or so. As I used to joke pre-op during my countless failed sinusitis antibiotic courses, life is just what happens in between amoxicillin doses.
Day 2 -
Didn't sleep at ALL during the night. Woke up feeling pressure in my nose because scabs/clots/something is starting to form in there. It's SO annoying I just want to blow it out, but per the doctor's instructions, I can't do anything about it. While the active bleeding out of my nose has stopped, today has just experiencing different unfortunate symptoms. I've been coughing up gross bloody mucus stuff. Every time I swallow my ears pop because of how clogged my nose is. Kind of gross, but my nose has been popping and making liquid-y bubbling noises all day... In terms of pain, I haven't felt any really *knock on wood*, just the obvious discomfort of nastiness backed all the way up in whatever they packed my nose with post-op. The only thing that can get me to sleep is honestly the painkillers just to get me to ignore the annoying sensation of what feels like water balloons up my nostrils, so I'm only going to take them at night if at all anymore. Kinda wishing there was a time travel option to skip past not only this boredom and discomfort, but the debridement post-op appointment which I hear can be painful😓. My sensitivity to light has pretty much gone away now, so I've been at least passing time quicker with movies and such. Man I wish I had an edible right now.
Day 3 -
Started off pretty promising. Woke up after considerably better sleep I've gotten the past few days. Drainage is still annoying, nastiness bubbling in my nose still, and there's still a feeling of gunk in the back of my throat, but overall painless. Towards the end of the day I got an AWFUL headache. Took some Tylenol and I'm currently hoping it goes away, if it continues getting any worse I will definitely be a little concerned as I believe my dr. told me to look out for horrible headaches. Other than that, I'm still just waiting around for the post op appointment. I suspect by the time Tuesday rolls around I'm gonna be so over the stuff in my nose that I won't even care about the pain of removing it anymore lol.
Day 4 -
Woke up with a little blood on my pillow. Gross. Apparently leaked through my gauze when I was sleeping because it fell off halfway through the night. In other news, I'm not bleeding as bad and I'm able to remove the bandage from under my nose for most of the day. I've noticed my cough is picking up too, half of the time it's normal congestion/phlegm, and then bloody variations. Feeling MUCH better compared to day one and two though, and again, eagerly awaiting stent/packing removal. Honestly feeling quite normal.
Day 5 -
Very much so up and moving today, pretty much back to feeling exactly how I was before surgery, save the stuff draining in my throat and coming through the little holes of the dried bloody nastiness stuck inside my stents 🥲. I left the house today for the first time since surgery, so that was great, too. Not much to report today thankfully! I'm feeling much much much better. I've got plans to load up on painkillers before my slightly nerve-wracking post-op appointment tomorrow, but honestly, thank GOD it's here. I can not only see the dismal state that is the inside of my nose, I can absolutely feel it all, too. My nose squeaks and bubbles with every movement and I'm extremely over it, as well as curious to see what's gonna be sucked out ...
Day 6 (post op)-
took a painkiller before going in for the appointment today as advised by my dr, and honestly, thank GOD for that because it helped with my nerves too keeping me pretty calm. my dr removed surtures from my nose (ouch) and it felt like getting a piercing, but it was over pretty quickly. the stent removal was weird, just uncomfortable. MAN those stents were huge no wonder my nose was so puffy! I also got blood and mucous vacuumed out too which didn’t hurt at all, very comparable feeling to when they scope you with that long tube going up your brain. kinda like everyone says, more uncomfortable than painful, but then again i was on a painkiller lol. definitely take pain meds before going whether it’s tylenol or something similar. alright when i tell you i RAN out of that office like the lepers after jesus had healed them….. this is the clearest my nose has felt in years. there’s SO MUCH AIR it hurts it’s wonderful!!!! cried tears of joy a little bit, partially because the worst is now behind me lmao. anyways I’m feeling SO GLAD i did this. still can’t smell anything but I can still taste, apparently it should come back soon once swelling goes down.

2024.05.11 03:21 bun_maska Any recommendations for some improvement in my condition?

Hi everyone, I would like to know if anyone would give me some ideas what can I do to better my condition. Currently on a corticol steriod Mometasone furoate nasal spray. Have been doing nasal rinsing and no allergies as per the allergy test. Earlier, before visiting to any doctor I only used to take some allergic medicines like Allegra but never had this nasal spray or nasal rinsing. I don't know this time it's much months it's not getting resolved.
Recently went to a CT scan and got this assessment. Doctor is suggesting surgery for turbinates.
Assessment: Maxillary sinusitis on the left with displacement of the ostiomeatal unit. Nasal turbinate hyperplasia, nasal septal deviation with formation of a 6 mm thick spur to the left. Concha bullosa medial right.

2024.05.09 21:04 CouldHaveBeenAPun [40M] I had fit of cough for the past 4 week, apparently caused by post-nasal drip, but lately I started having difficulty breating after them. Cause to worry ?

All right, I'm a 40 y/o white male. I'm 5'11 and 230 lbs. I have been diagnosed with essential hypertension at age 24, and have been on a regimen of Ramipril HTCZ 25mg-10mg, Teva-Amlodipine 5mg, and Apo-metoprolol Sr 100mg since then, with adjustments along the way.
I also have diagnosis for GAD (I have Zopiclone PRN, haven't taken then in years), ADHD (recently stopped Strattera as its effects for ADHD where near absent) and Tourette. A couple of weeks ago I had tests for allergies and I was positive for almost everything they tested, but except for cats and dogs, I never suffered of symptoms anything more than minor, allergy wise).
I've also started consuming cannabis 6 years ago. Never smoked it, I only vaporize flowers using a water pipe adapter to cool the vapor. Since I started, I've always had the policy of stopping it as soon as I had signs of symptoms of anything respiratory (eg, for a cold, etc.).
Now, 4 weeks ago, I had a gastro and an unidentified respiratory virus. I did not stop coughing since then, but it is the only lingering symptom. The coughing come in fits, more intense at night (I often wake up suddenly having to violently expel mucus) and in the morning, but still happening sometimes in the day. Everything points to post-nasal drip (I can feel lumps of mucus just falling down sometimes, and I do expel mucus after the cough), so I started to be more intense with nasal rincing, took some antihistamine in case it was caused by allergies, and kept taking 7 to 15 ml of NyQuil which helped me sleep and had decongestant in it. I am drinking water and herbal tea as much as I can to help loosen the mucus, and in the morning, I take hot shower for the same reason.
I would not describe the coughing fits as particularily physically intense, I've definitely had worse with a cold, but I would say that after around 50% of the coughing fits (for now, it seems to get more common), I get dizzy for a couple of seconds and I have difficulty breathing. It feels like something blocks the airways, and I have to stop and take deep, difficult, almost forced, breaths. Breathing comes back to to normal after less than a minute (I sound a bit like the whooping cough sound, if it helps understanding) and I have some seconds/minute where talking gets difficult after, as if I have less air to make the vocal cords work. I have tried sleeping upright on my couch, it doesn't seems to be helping.
So I went to see an MD. Full disclosure, the reason I am posting here is that there is an history of, what I feels is, the MD downplaying what I am consulting for (for example, the last time it happened, MD insisted for 2 months I had a debilitating pain caused by muscular problem and would only suggest treatment for this, while I had a pinched cervical nerve that numbed sensations in my arm, saying what I described was probably only my anxiety), and this is why I want to have another input here.
So I had a quick 10 minutes appointement with the MD. Ruled out bacterial source, says I have some discoloration of my eardrum but nothing to worry about, and lungs seemed fine. Said respiratory viruses are intense this year, and it is probably the one I got that sticks to me still. She gave me a prescription for an inhaler of sublatamol and suggested I go buy Cold & Sinus Tylenol so I have a pseudoepinephrine decongestant. I am now also taking those two.
So far, everyting I mentionned I tried did not do a dent in my symptoms. And so far, there is no sign of amelioration. Apart from the need to heavily breath after fits of cough that are getting more common, other symptoms are just as they've been for the past 4 weeks. I've been waking up multiple times per night because of this (I always do a sinus rince when I wake up), I am getting more and more tired with the bad sleep I have, which I guess won't help recovering, but also gets me more and more improductive at work.
This has not been a good year for me. Maybe I am seeing this bigger than it is because of that, I can accept it. But it's been 4 weeks of bad sleep, coughing and needing to force to get back my breathing when I do with no signs of improvement. This is starting to have an impact on my mental wellbeing, which in turn have an impact on work and family duties.
So yeah. I've been treating this like a lingering cold and/or allergies, but after 4 weeks without signs of improvement, I am having doubt. Any advice ?
