Need help with my Skin care Routine!

Hi there,
I need some help and guidance on using my skincare products. I want to avoid overloading my skin and ensure each product remains effective. I'm looking for the best way to incorporate the products in the right order, as I've researched and decided to use.

~Cleanser:~
· CeraVe Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser (for body and face, which I love)
· I don't double cleanse, have normal to dry skin, no pimples, and don't wear makeup, only chemical sunscreen.

~Actives:~
· Vitamin X Serum from RegimenLab
· Ingredients: Trans-Resveratrol, EGCG, 15% Ascorbic Acid, Genistein, Silybin (Silymarin), Quercetin, Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone, Ferulic Acid.
· Level Serum from RegimenLab
· Timeless Coenzyme Q10 Serum
· Matrixyl® Synthe'6 Serum
· Tretinoin 0.025% concentration

~Sunscreen:~
· Eucerin Sun Oil Control SPF 50 Face Sunscreen
· Filters: Avobenzone, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Uvinul A Plus, Ensulizole.

~Moisturiser:~
· La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume or Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream

~Exfoliator:~
· Lactic Acid 10% + HA (The Ordinary)

I appreciate any advice on how to effectively use these products in my routine, in the right order, without overloading my skin. My goals are anti-aging and prevention. My skin is smooth with some fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eye area. I have also bought the Derma Pen (Dr. Derma Pen) and plan on doing microneedling in the future, but I have not looked into this enough to start yet.
Thank you

2024.05.18 12:12 moetheiguana Leaving Your Home Country due to Interpersonal Trauma?

So, I would love to know more about this topic. Firstly, to preface I’m American born. I am Italian-American and I am entitled to Italian citizenship by descent.
I’m a 33 year old man, and my entire life was always full of abuse and utter chaos. I was born to parents who were into partying and drugs. My father was a heroin addict and was also an alcoholic and I would see him beat my mother, who I loved very much. I was a toddler witnessing this. My mother wasn’t perfect at all, but she did show me love. She died when I was 5 and my dad just went off the deep end. My mother was kind of his restraint. She more dabbled in drugs under his influence than was a full blown hardcore addict. My maternal grandmother was given custody of my brother and I and my father was his usual threatening, drunk, violent self. In and out of jail. Death threats to my grandmother and family. My grandmother refused to let him intimate her into forcing us into foster care, but one of my aunts or uncle did end up calling the state after my grandmother had a total hip and knee replacement and they deemed her unfit to care for two young children.
In my first foster home, I was horrendously physically, sexually, and psychologically abused from the ages of 7-10 on a nearly daily basis by my foster father. The abuse was horrific. My brother was abused worse, physically, and so he acted out more and was sent to a residential facility and we became separated and I sated behind with that monster for well over a year more. Eventually, my brother reported the abuse to a social worker and I was removed and put into another home.
This woman would end up adopting me. She was not benevolent either. Not quite the raw monster like from my first home, but she financially abused all 7 of the children she adopted and treated myself and the older kids like absolute garbage. She was collecting my survivor benefits from my mother’s death in addition to other children in the house, on top of a nearly $1000 subsidy from NJ for “room and board” purposes even after we were adopted. That’s close to 10k per month. She lived a lavish lifestyle while making sure we all knew never to ask for anything. I spent too many years trying to win her real approval, until I cut that cord and told her the truth and how I knew what she did and what her intentions were. I was thrown out cold on the street for actually no reason by her and then she gaslighted me into telling repeatedly that I moved out!
Anyway, I struggled with opioid addiction from all of this baggage I carried around. I have now been clean for three years and have zero desire to get high. There’s so much more tragedy that I can’t possibly keep extrapolating on, but my latest and, honestly, somehow, the worst trauma was me being abandoned by my spouse after he assaulted me and then twisted the story to have me arrested for domestic assault when I acted in self defense. I was the one who called the police for the record. He also ended up abusing me psychologically during the divorce and him doing that to me broke me entirely. I lost 40 pounds, I had fainting spells and told no one and continued working. I was also diagnosed with autoimmune disease on top of all of this going on and I thought I was sick before the diagnosis but the doctors kept telling me it was stress. It broke me into a million pieces. I now have nobody to call family here anywhere. I have really no friends since getting clean and working on me. I have nothing here.
I’ve managed to live all over the US, 6 different states by the time I was 30. I’ve always been a nomad. I’ve always had dreams of living abroad, but realistically knew it probably would never happen. Something inside of me after my husband left, told me I needed to get the fuck out of this country with these people and all of the nothing I have here and not look back. I managed to save $7000 to pay a dual citizenship lawyer to help me get Italian citizenship, and I am currently working myself to death to save up a nest egg for my exit. I feel so viscerally that I have to get out with a quickness. Nobody understands my desire to leave the US for Europe alone with no ties. I live in the wealthiest country in the world. I make a decent living. I’m able to meet my needs financially and all I’ve ever known is here. I guess it does seem strange.
How common is this emigrating due to interpersonal trauma and not just economic or political oppression, work, etc. I honestly feel that giving up my US citizenship would be cleansing for me. I won’t though just to keep myself entitled to the social security system I have paid into my entire working life. I don’t expect to go to Europe and find happiness and peace lying around or something. I know that comes from the inside, and it’s not found in external things. I am so convinced though, that I’ll find an even more intense sense of relief once I get out of here. I will never come back. I never will. Please explain this. I guess psychoanalyse me.

2024.05.18 05:08 Digduggy48 If I could create a legend

I been playing apex since season 1 and have always love the characters in this game and lore so for fun I decided to create my own, I always thought it be cool to have a fire based character that was a breaching legend that get through enemy defenses but can be played aggressive but can be defense as well similar play-style to caustic bu is not control legend but a assault legend, so I would like to introduce you guys to burnout, give some feedback and some suggestions and let see we can respawn devs to see this. Thanks legends
Viktor Burnout Romanov ( pyromaniac breacher )
Name: Burnout Real Name: Viktor Romanov Age: 29 Home World: Salvo
Backstory:
Viktor Romanov, known as Burnout, was born into a world of chaos and violence on the lawless planet of Salvo. From a young age, Viktor endured a childhood filled with pain and suffering at the hands of his sadistic father. Their home was a den of torment, where screams of agony echoed in the darkness and fear reigned supreme.
But amidst the darkness, Viktor found solace in one thing: fire. From the flickering flames of their meager hearth to the roaring infernos that consumed their broken home, fire held a mesmerizing allure for Viktor. It was a symbol of power, of destruction, of rebirth.
Tragedy struck when their father’s sadistic impulses reached new heights. In a fit of depraved cruelty, he tortured Viktor’s younger sister, Anya, with a red-hot branding iron, leaving her with agonizing burns that marred her fragile body. Despite Viktor’s desperate attempts to intervene, his father reveled in Anya’s suffering, feeding off her pain like a ravenous beast.
The final act of cruelty came when Viktor’s father forced him to watch as Anya, his beloved younger sister, died in front of him, her screams of agony haunting him long after her life had slipped away. In that moment, something inside Viktor snapped. His grief turned to rage, a seething inferno that threatened to consume him whole.
Fueled by his burning hatred, Viktor plotted his revenge. He waited until his father was in a drunken stupor, then doused him in gasoline as he slept, the smell of fuel mingling with the stench of alcohol. With a single match, Viktor ignited the gasoline, watching with cold satisfaction as his father’s screams filled the night air.
But even as his father’s screams faded into the night, Viktor found no solace in his vengeance. The void left by Anya’s death remained, a gaping wound that could never be healed. His heart, once filled with love for his sister, now overflowed with a dark, gnawing emptiness that threatened to consume him from within.
Haunted by the memories of that fateful night, Viktor’s grief and guilt transformed into something darker. He embraced his newfound identity as Burnout, a merciless force of destruction driven by his insatiable love for fire. With each passing day, his fascination with flames grew stronger, until it consumed him completely, transforming him into a merciless villain who reveled in the agony of his victims.
When The Syndicate offered him a chance to unleash his fury on the grand stage of the Apex Games, Burnout saw it as an opportunity to indulge his darkest desires and claim his rightful place as the ultimate purveyor of pain and torment. Now, as Burnout, he unleashes his fiery fury on the battlefield, delighting in the screams of his opponents as he seeks to establish himself as the most feared competitor in the arena.
Passive: scorching endurance Burnout affinity with fire grants him resistance to incoming fire damage. Additionally, when burnout takes fire damage, he gains a temporary boost to movement speed and reload speed.
Tactical: inferno grenade Cool down: 20 seconds Description: burnout throws a specialized fire grenade that explodes on impact, creating a small area of intense flames that deal damage over time to enemies caught within its radius.
Ultimate Ability: ASHBRINGER Start damage: 10 per tick, after burn last for five seconds 5 per tick Cooldown 3 minutes
Description: burnout channels the full power of his flamethrower, unleashing a devastating torrent of fire that engulfs the battlefield in flames.
In-Game Effect: When activated, burnout flamethrower becomes supercharged, emitting an intense stream of flames that sweep across a wide area in front of him. The flames ignite anything in their path, dealing massive damage to enemies caught within the inferno.
Visual: burnout flamethrower emits a bright, fiery glow as he activates his ultimate. Flames surge from the nozzle, growing in intensity and range as burnout sweeps the flamethrower from side to side, covering a large area in front of him with roaring fire.
Gameplay Impact: Enemies caught in the path of the flames take significant damage over time, and those who remain within the inferno are quickly incinerated. The ultimate ability is particularly effective in close-quarters combat situations or when enemies are clustered together, making it a powerful tool for area denial and crowd control. However, burnout is vulnerable while using his ultimate, as he cannot use his other abilities or defend himself effectively, so timing and positioning are crucial for maximum effectiveness. Quips( with the help with ChatGPT ) 1. "Feel the burn, prey, as I turn this battlefield into my personal inferno." 2. "In the heat of battle, I'll show you what true agony feels like." 3. "My flames will consume you, leaving nothing but ashes in your wake." 4. "Step into my fire, and I'll make sure you regret ever crossing me." 5. "I thrive in the chaos of combustion, and you're about to feel its wrath." 6. "I'll light up the arena with your screams, a symphony of agony for my ears." 7. "Watch as I ignite the battleground, leaving no survivors in my wake." 8. "You can try to run, but you can't escape the scorching embrace of my flames. "9. "Burn with me, or burn alone. Either way, you're going down in flames." 10. "They say fire cleanses, but in my hands, it only brings pain and suffering. 11. "Every ember is a promise of the pain I’ll inflict." 2. "Let’s turn up the heat and watch you squirm." 3. "Feel the flames caress your skin as you beg for it to end." 4. "I'll reduce you to ashes and smile as I do it." 5. "In my fire, you'll find no redemption, only suffering." 6. "The inferno is my domain, and you're just fuel for the blaze." 7. "Your agony is the spark that ignites my fury." 8. "Watch as the fire consumes all you hold dear." 9. "I relish the smell of burning hope in the morning." 10. "Your fear feeds the flames, and I will watch you burn with glee." 11. “I’ll incinerate every last trace of you, and laugh as you burn.” 12. "In this blaze, hope is but a fleeting ember, quickly snuffed out."

2024.05.18 03:18 Otherwise-Major5583 What are the best beauty hacks for acne skins?

Acne-prone skin requires special care to reduce symptoms and improve skin texture. Here are some skincare tips for acne-prone skin:
Gentle cleansing: Choose a gentle facial cleanser to avoid irritating the skin, and cleanse the face once or twice daily. Use lukewarm water for washing, avoiding water that is too hot or too cold.
Use products containing salicylic acid: Salicylic acid helps to clear out oil and impurities from the pores, reducing the formation of acne. Choose cleansers, toners, or moisturizers containing salicylic acid.
Maintain skin hydration: Even oily skin needs hydration. Opt for oil-free lightweight moisturizers or gels, ensuring they are non-comedogenic.
Avoid irritation: Stay away from products containing alcohol or other irritating ingredients to prevent skin dryness or irritation.
Regular exfoliation: Use a gentle exfoliating product to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. However, avoid excessive exfoliation to prevent skin irritation.
Diet and lifestyle: Maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle to improve skin condition. Consume plenty of fruits, vegetables, and water, while reducing intake of sugar and processed foods.
Avoid squeezing pimples: Squeezing pimples can lead to infection, inflammation, and scarring. It's best to leave extractions to professionals.
Pay attention to daily skincare: Avoid using oily makeup products, opt for oil-free formulas, and regularly replace makeup brushes and sponges.
Be patient: Improving acne-prone skin takes time. Stay patient and consistent with the correct skincare routine to see noticeable results.

Help finding a moisturizer
I am 24F. I have dehydrated sensitive acne prone skin. It’s sometimes only on the t-zone but very very dry in the cheeks. I recently did the skin type test because a Derm told me I have oily skin, I cleansed my skin and left it like that for an hour, my skin was feeling tight (no flakes maybe because I exfoliated the night before). I was using the pyk calming moisturize cream but I recently found out that it has alcohol in it, so I’m not sure if I should repurchase it or not. My favorite cream so far was “some by mi H7 hydro max cream” but I think they discontinued it since I can’t find it anywhere. I have also tried the aestura barrier repair cream but the formula leaves my very oily. I am using retinol for my acne (2x a week) as well as txa for my dark spots and hyperpigmentation so I need something that would go well with them. Any help would be very appreciated

2024.05.17 06:30 blue_ella A guide into GLYCERIN/GLYCEROL/GLYCERINE for skin and hair

Please know, I am a regular human, just like you. I am not a specialist, doctor, or a scientist of any kind. I have spent over 2 years in writing this (post has been in my drafts and I worked on it in my free time only.) I have talked about using glycerin and the changes I have seen on my own body many times on here and I always received comments from someone wanting more information on glycerin which is not easily available. (I think it's because of how cheap it is and how its the top ingredient in many products we use, companies don't want us to know lol.) My sources are from medical/universal research libraries that I have access to from my university. Still, research papers are very complicated to understand and takes a long time to get through the whole study so if I made a mistake in comprehending anything, please let me know. Lets begin :)
This product/poly compound does have many names/spellings but I'll be sticking to glycerin. Glycerin is used in vast variety of products like medicine/wound care, food industry, hygiene products including soaps, skincare, hair care and more. Glycerin is stable, nontoxic, non irritating and hypoallergenic with antibacterial effects. Because of these properties it is said that about 20% of all glycerin is used in our territory (makeup, skincare, hygiene) which is a very large portion. Glycerin is also fairly cheap so you can see it in the top 10-15% of the ingredient list (especially in products that promote hydration) or towards the bottom 25% in preventative products.
Glycerin has many benefits. You can look at luxury creams to affordable face wash products and chances are, you will see glycerin in it. Some skincare companies now include a directory on their website to explain what each ingredient does and benefit on the skin but I feel it is very vague and wanted to bring some science to this poly compound. Now the accredited and certified research papers I found available to me are limited on its effect on the skin of humans but are on animals with some following up on humans. I was hoping to include links and incorporate wording however it was too cruel so I will summarize.
The vast amount of information available is on, if glycerin is a safe product, its effects to our (human) tissues, and possible illness/diseases scientists believed it can cause or be linked to. Like I said, I'll keep the animal testing gory out but to wrap it all up, glycerin is safe. It did not have any effect on the reproductive system for males or females and is not carcinogenic to humans. In a different study, a group of 25 human volunteers (22 male 3 female) were tested orally which resulted in no change in weight of humans if under 50 with or without diabetes, unless over 50 with diabetes history it caused some jittery behavior in one human (this experiment was conducted orally and used 3x a day.) Researchers checked the sperm of males and saw no abnormalities comparing it to when they first came in. For the females, ultrasound showed no abnormalities on their reproductive health. It should be noted, the researchers did not compare anything regarding glycerin and its effect on the thyroid but the other organs tested no abnormalities were found. I also found several studies on inhalation and applying glycerin on eyes was normal in sense nothing will happen other than some irritation that subsides, on animals. Same study then compared their findings on a group of humans and only a couple of people from the testing group reported it caused mild or moderate irritation that lasted for little while. To conclude, there are no known side effects or illness caused or linked to by usage of glycerin. Still, after immense testing it is recommended to patch test glycerin even if being allergic to glycerin is considered rare according to researchers.
In skin/hair care, glycerin is a humectant (retaining or preserving moisture) and an emollient (quality of softening or smoothing of the skin). Meaning a moisturizing agent that draws water to the surface of the dermis from the atmosphere or from layers deep in your skin/hair; brighten and soften the dermis and hair at the same time This said, using glycerin in low humidity or dry, hot air can result in drying out your dermis (skin) or hair, including the scalp because it is pulling moisture deep in your dermis or hair. (Personal note: if you wish to use glycerin in locations or seasons where the air is dry, it is best to keep spritzing the area with a mist of just water, preferably distilled, or other hydration mist to prevent the glycerin pulling any to all moisture from your dermis which could result in flaky, dry skin or brassy, frizzy hair strands. I believe after immense research this is the only downside of glycerin).
Glycerin is also considered as a thickener for products and is mildly antibacterial and antiviral. Glycerin was originally found from lipids of animals (animal fat) but now can be extracted from plants (vegan) like shea butter, palm oil, coconut oil and more. As of today, glycerin from oil has a high extraction rate from palm. Glycerin can also be formed synthetically through fermentation, bio-diesel or chemically created with its chemical compound ( C3H8O3; Carbon 3 Hydrogen 8 Oxygen 3) (Personal note: I am including this because when purchasing you glycerin, be sure on where and how it was extracted as you will be applying it on your dermis or hair.) Glycerin is non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog your pores, but reading the different studies I believe there is a difference between lab, plant, and animal lipid created glycerin. Some prefer the animal glycerin as its more suitable to their skin type but majority of the glycerin in our market is from plants or lab. You can tell the difference of glycerin by how tacky it is. Animal glycerin is most tacky (sticky like tree sap) compared to the plant glycerin followed by lab created which only has a slight slip to it.
The density of glycerin (1.26g/cm^3) is lower than the density of our skin(1.1g/cm^3) which allows glycerin to penetrate deeper than a lot of other products. Whereas hyaluronic acid (varies but avg. density is around 1.8g/cm^3) may look to be better way to go around but both have their benefits! Glycerin is better suitable when you want your skin or scalp to hold moisture on your skin. HA is suitable if you want to lock in the moisture. But what makes them very different is the molecular level. Glycerin has a smaller molecular level than HA, which in return allows the glycerin to saturate deeper in your dermis or hair strands whereas HA sits on the top 2 layers (about). So using HA on your skin can mean it can take longer to see the visual results on your skin. That said with either or, consistency is important to unlock all the benefits either product can offer.
Glycerin is beneficial to all skin types, most hair types, and help aid in various skin or scalp conditions (if you have a medical condition please consult a doctor or dermatologist.) From brightening the dermis by help healing old scars and smoothing out hyperpigmentation, to being a natural prevention of many skin imperfections glycerin is the most underrated, versatile, and affordable product all should have in their cupboards. Glycerin will hold onto the water keeping your face soft and smooth (like a newborn babies bum) for long periods of time. (On study showed if glycerin is not washed from the dermis or hair, glycerin can last upto 6 days on the area applied hydrating the top layer of skin. In this study the researchers had 3 groups, 1 controlled, 1 glycerin applied only(group1), 1 glycerin applied with misting water every 6 hours(group2) for 14 days. From control- the group had natural oil build up, group1 had dry almost chapped skin, group2 felt dry to touch, some shine-no oil, bounce on dermis.) It is not recommended to keep glycerin on for this long as glycerin can attract pollutants from settling into pores-it just sits on surface of skin.
In the process of applying glycerin consistently, it will boost collagen production, even out your skin tone from blemishes to hyperpigmentation, aiding in the prevention of acne bacteria spreading on your dermis (help with clearing back acne), clearing and hydrating pores for the prevention of black or white heads, smooth skin texture and premature aging lines. Glycerin may act as a mild natural sunscreen by protecting the skin from the sun's rays and environmental pollutants, including smog. For acne, glycerin can help prevent the bacteria from spreading and help heal and smooth old acne spots. On large open pores, because of its density, glycerin can settle into pores reducing the visual size of them and help clear out any dirt or imperfections.
Glycerin on your scalp can be a natural/soft treatment for dandruff or other scalp dryness. For your hair strands, mixing it with our ayurvedic hair masks or hair oil, you can condition any damaged hair strands, preventing further breakage (split ends), and adding strength to protect against harmful rays of the sun and hot tools. The benefits of glycerin on our bodies are endless but here are a couple other ways to include glycerin when in a pinch.
Remember we discussed how glycerin is a humectant, emollient, and thickener? Well, this is what many of us expect from a makeup primer. I have used a glycerin primer for when I wanted a quick everyday makeup look or when I misplaced my holy grail benefit POREfessional primer. I used it in 2 ways, One was mixing a drop of glycerin into my moisturizer or my foundation. The other was my standard rose water and glycerin spray bottle. With the rose water I did notice I had to make sure the water and glycerin was well set into my face. I use a damp sponge to press any glycerin sitting on my face deep into my pores before applying foundation to avoid any separation or caking. (If you want an airbrush look; try this method then after dabbing your face with the sponge, apply a thin, even layer of finely milled translucent powder.) Why you may ask do this extra step of dabbing? Well using glycerin in a liquid format like the rose water is also an effective makeup remover! Crazy how it can work both ways.
If you pull out any micellar water you may have, the first 2 ingredients are water and glycerin followed by additives to act as mild surfactants and unwanted possible ingredients alcohol, fragrance, preservatives. Surfactant is a substance that will help the water and glycerin chemical properties mix when dissolved together. Sometimes when you let the micellar water sit you see a layer of liquid settle on top of another layer and you have to mix the two, right? The surfactant is the ingredient that leaves that oily feel on the face and I believe blends the glycerin chemical with the surfactant to create a less tacky formula. It will be different brand to brand based on how they source their glycerin and the ratios. That said, after my full beat, spraying a setting spray and all, I experimented to see how the rose wateglycerin will react with my full face of makeup if I just wanted to rehydrate my face with the same mixture. I spray till my face feels nicely hydrated, let that fully dry with help of a fan or my hands, then with a dry sponge, I lightly tap the glycerin back into my dermis and if needed, powder to set any makeup separation or fading.
The only time I dealt with makeup reacting with the glycerin was when my makeup began pilling from mixing silicone and water based skincare products with foundation.
From my journey: I saw some posts of users using and not having benefactual results so I'd like to inform you how I personally started using glycerin and the changes on my own skin. I remember stumbling on a random Instagram account of Farah Dhukai from Farsali using glycerin back in 2016 and I decided to copy the recipe to lighten dark skin. After following her instructions and started to use her recipes very often, it was not long before I had all family reunions turn into skincare nights. I would make custom masks for my cousins and aunts based on their skin concerns and I would receive endless compliments and discussions on how my skin as a 15 year old teenager looked amazing. It was not long until I connected the dots and started researching extensively into glycerin.
At that time, I didn't even have access to these studies and research papers, many were released after 2016! I found another ayurvedic Instagram account (now deactivated) and found my first recipe for rose water and glycerin and we have been going strong ever since. I started off with about 1 cup of fresh/homemade rose water to 1 tablespoon of glycerin. I originally started using this as a toner. I suffer from acanthosis nigricans (thickedry/dark skin on back of neck, elbows, armpits, knees) I would drench a cotton pad and hold the serum onto my skin for 5 seconds before moving it. I would repeat this then go over the same parts on my skin in circular motions. After about 4-6 months I had reduced the appearance on my elbows and knees to about 90% (only small dryness patch was left) my neck still had the thickness of skin but the darkness had reduced significantly and started blending in with my natural skin. Armpits were about 40% lighter but after a year of consistent use I was very happy with my results. Now it is important to mention, skin care can only carry so much; during this time of using the toner I lost about 23 kgs which helped clear the inflammation causing the dark skin in the first place.
Along with this toner I only used a light moisturizer and face wash; no SPF, facial scrubs, or actives. My skin was very clear, bright, hyperpigmentation free. Then life hit me with a ton of bricks and depression set in. I gave up skincare and my skin was terrible. Pores, pigmentation, fungal acne and stubborn blackheads on forehead and chin, extremely flaky/irritated cheeks. At this point I had been using glycerin for over 3-4 years so I upped the ratio I mix about 1:4 ratio of glycerin to rosewater now and put it in a spray bottle. I would start by double cleanse my face, use vitamin C serum and drench my face with the glycerin water before bedtime daily (about 1-2 hours before) let it settle then use my fingers to give myself a soft facial massage and help the remaining dripping water settle into my skin or slide it down my neck and chest. Then before bedtime, I splash my face with just cool water and remove the glycerin sitting on top of my skin. Gently dry my face and apply my nightly moisturizer with retinol, let that settle then spray 4x of the glycerin water again, finish with some lip mask and go to sleep.
From researching and experimenting, this was best way to clear out my white/black heads. The glycerin made them soft and I did not have to include any active or harsh scrubs or facial tools to pick them out. I found mixing the vitamin C with the glycerin 2 hours before helped tremendously with my hyperpigmentation and left my face glowing and added a beautiful bounce! I now only use a soft facial scrub that was marked to be safe for daily use once a week only. In the mornings, I thoroughly wash your face with some cleanser and apply a light moisturizer and SPF. My skin has gotten significantly brighter and has the glass skin effect without using multiple actives and products. Reason I don't apply it the rosewater glycerin in morning is because we are having dry weather and my schedule is unpredictable to remember to spray a hydrating spray in between wear.
For my scalp psoriasis, I used the same toner product just in different ratios and it helped significantly. Only thing about glycerin and your scalp/hair strands is you do not want to dry it out. I only kept it on for about 30 minutes before I shower. I do have thin/pin-straight hair but my ends just felt so much healthier. One research entry mentioned how glycerin was very benefactural to animals with dense fur. So if you have textured(wavy/curly) or coarse(thick) hair definitely try glycerin out on yourself! Im sure it will help your curls be more defined and healthy! Glycerin helps strengthen the hair follicles and strands to prevent breakage, leading to the illusion of faster-longer growing hair. (I have to trim my hair about 3x a year. Each time I trim about 4 inches off. Sometimes I mix the glycerin and rose water in my hair oil concoctions. I feel this allows the oil to penetrate in even deeper. The oil doesn't sit on the stands but absorbs faster which I always struggled with. It leaves my hair so soft/supple, helps my brittle ends when I'm past due for a trim or from heat damage. In the case I add the glycerin into the oil and I wish to keep the oil on longer, I spray my hair with regular distilled water only to keep the moisture constant for the glycerin so it doesn't suck the water out of the strands.
Here are a couple ratios you can start to experiment with:
NOTES: If you believe glycerin and rosewater is not the combination for you, you can mix glycerin with aloe, powders/herbs, moisturizers, and more. Be sure to research the product you will be mixing with and always patch test to ensure a chemical change will not take negative effect on your skin. Reason why I mix with rosewater is because when mixing with other products, remember glycerin is also a thickener, so it can feel very heavy on the face. Whereas water dilutes it and feels comfortable to wear for all day or night.
NOTES: I know my oily and acne girls are always fighting for their life. If you try this and are struggling, keep adjusting the formula and trust the process. It may feel nothing is happening or too much is happening but if you can, stay consistent for 6 weeks before you call it quits.
NOTES: ( NSFW but IMPORTANT!) Please do not apply glycerin on or near your genitalia! Glycerin is a type of carbohydrate known as a sugar alcohol. The breakdown of glycerin with our natural bacteria will turn it into an irritant creating a risk of a yeast infection!

[Routine Help] Close Comedones getting worse despite a routine
Hi everyone,
I'm asking for a friend who started her skincare journey last year. She has an oily type, her skin tends to get greasy 3-4 hours after. Her main concerns are the closed comedones, as the skin that gets very greasy and shiny. She tried out a couple of products during the year but stopped later as they had some negative effect on her skin (fatty alcohol, in particular), in March, she started the following routine:
AM:
  • Cleanser (Isntree - Hyaluronic Acid Low pH Cleansing Foam)
  • Hyaluronic Acid (Torriden DIVE-IN Low-Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum)
  • Niacinamide 10% (Aroma Zone) every day
  • Moisturiser (Beauty of Joseon Red Bean Water Gel)
PM:
  • Cleasing oil (Anua - Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil)
  • Cleanser (Isntree - Hyaluronic Acid Low pH Cleansing Foam)
  • Hyaluronic Acid (Torriden DIVE-IN Low-Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum)
  • Niacinamide 10% (Aroma Zone) every day
  • Glycolic Acide 10% (Arome Zone) every two days
  • Moisturiser (Beauty of Joseon Red Bean Water Gel)
It's been two and a half months, and her skin looks every worse now, with pimples and a lot of closed comedones, even if she did her best to avoid any ingredients that might cause them.
Closed comedones getting worse on the cheeks even if she never had them before there
She had them before but they're worse now
She decided to pause all the products, and use only cleanser with one of the above-mentioned products. I'm trying to convince her to still use a moisturiser, but the BOJ doesn't seem to work for her as her skin feels very greasy even hours after applying it as if the moisturiser isn't absorbed well.
We're based in France, she switched to another cleanser that dries less her face (Caudalie Gelée Nettoyante Purifiante) and to occasional Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant.
What do you think? Do you have any advice for a greasy type, especially with the closed comedones? Do you know how and why the comedons on the cheeks get so much worse?
Thanks in advance!!

However you want to choose, this could be most damage / most EHP / best CC. Including augments, I would still go with Wukong's Cloudwalker:

2024.05.16 04:52 Commercial_Swim2906 Compromised Skin Barrier with a Complicated (But Once Happy) Complexion - Please Help!

CAUTION: LONG!
So this has happened to me once before (over a decade ago) and the whole ordeal seriously left me with PTSD. Back then, a vitamin recommended to me by a physio to treat a pinched nerve broke out what was great skin so I made the mistake of throwing all kinds of things at the issue. I learned my lesson and have kept a gentle, simple, natural routine ever since. My skin has been lovely, calm and clear as a result - even downright glowy and dewy.
Ironically, it was an oil for a recent ear infection (when antibiotics failed) which dribbled onto my skin that I believe must've done this. First, it gave me clogs which I only massaged a bit of jojoba oil into and I exfoliated twice in, oh gee, two weeks rather than my usual 4-6 weeks because, twice-over, I noticed some skin peeling in the area where the oil would land (I would wipe it and/or wash it off, but would awaken to find more had come out and onto my temporary (used a different one while this was going on) pillow so my skin was resting against that stuff for hours). I haven't taken an antibiotic for 9 or 10 years prior to this. Indeed, I always get a little stinging blotch by my right eye, on-off, for awhile after taking them and this time was no different. I'm wondering if they even messed with my skin's microbiota, contributing to this some and for what?! They didn't even cure the infection (which I thought could be viral since it lead on from a cold)! I understand there are barrier creams which contain probiotics/prebiotics and these interest me.
For said exfoliation, I always use ground oats mixed with a hydrosol or spring water which I then gently massage over my skin. This is what I have done for years and which a Garden of Wisdom skin consultant who worked with me back during the first round of an impaired skin barrier, okayed. I usually only do this every 4-6 weeks - sometimes going for longer, I'm just not a strong believer in exfoliating the skin on the face often, ironically.
So, last week, after the second exfoliation followed by my usual (gentle!) skin routine, my face flipped out within hours. I use no acids, no other actives, no alcohol-containing products or harsh, stripping cleansers. Hell, I don't even use masks anymore! I wear no makeup and my sunscreen for my face is a solid 50 SPF hat and a little raspberry seed oil.
I have sensitive skin - mostly normal - but it can be prone to clogs when it comes to heavier stuff. Last time my barrier got nuked, I was recommended a moisturizer with beeswax and I knew better than to use it but was desperate. I then paid with 60 clogged pores all over my face and neck which led to a summer of broken out skin while the mess purged. Since entering perimenopause (I'm 46), I've had perioral dermatitis rashes which I've learned to control and heal up, wholistically, within a day or two (they're also usually pretty mild). But, I know many of you are going to suggest I slather Vaseline or diaper cream on my face but with PD (which I'm more vulnerable to now with my messed up barrier), you can't use anything too occlusive and, frankly, I clog up and break out when it comes to heavy creams and ointments. Heck, even light ones can break me out which is why a combo of oil ( SIBU Sea Buckthorn Seed Oil)+ Avene Thermale Water spray +Caudalie Grape Water + hydrosol (helichrysum or frankincense) has worked so well for me for many, many years now.
My hydrosols sting and sometimes also the pure aloe vera gel I've cleansed my skin with for ages - even plain water does. My favorite faciil oil seems to be doing didley-squat to help this. I'm still using Avene and Caudalie (also has prebiotics) sprays because they mostly soothe it for a little bit. Do I just keep pushing on through the stinging (because most everything friggin' does!)?
Before and in being an herbalist, I made certain herbal concoctions and they were a huge saving grace then but now - they either soothe me or, alternatively and oddly, make my skin itch in my lower cheeks. I hadn't needed to be on one for 9 or 10 years prior to this. Indeed, I always get a little blotch by my right eye on-off for awhile after taking them.
Right now, I'm using products from Garden of Wisdom's soothing line plus their ceramides serum, but I just don''t know if they're helping or hurting. It's only been a week since I started that routine and they really seemed to soothe me for a couple of days but now, I think a couple items could be irritating me - not sure. They were suggested to me by their rep (who also suggested I use a product with tea tree and oregano oils for the zits I'm getting with this ordeal! Hell to the no! She also didn't steer me in the direction of their ceramides serum which some reviewers say healed their barriers, or another barrier-healing serum which I was considering, but I got another she suggested instead which I find sticky and possibly irritating).
I have an excellent whole foods diet, take certain skin-supportive nutrients (and have for years) and try and drink plenty of water every day. To make things even more complicated, I'm having hormonal night sweats which are, no, doubt, not helping this due to the loss of fluid. If I leave sweat on my face, I break out and here I'm trying to keep my face cleansing to one to two times a day (using just lukewarm water in the day, aloe vera gel or, occasionally the GoW cleanser at night). Normally, I go and give my face a quick rinse when this happens, but normally my moisture barrier isn't disrupted! I'm newly onto a wild yam cream which was a life-saver for me in my 20s so we will see how it works now.
I am open to not-so-natural things just to get this healed, but I'm not open to stuff that's just gonna leave me with other problems like multiple clogs, zits and PD flare-ups. I'm hearing just a simple, gentle cleanser (am highly allergic to sulfates! I also cannot do denatured and other drying alcohols!) and a good barrier cream might heal the compromised barrier in 2-12 weeks (and I'm already at 4, having had a few setbacks, unfortunately). Last time, it took far, far, far, FAR longer and my skin was reactive for quite some time afterward. I just don't have the patience for that, or the emotional/mental stamina to cope with it taking that long again. I'm really going to miss my hydrosols for however long this is going to take. Last time, helichyrsum soothed me so what the hell with this time?!
This ordeal has me in a lot of pain, distress and I'm mucho depressed as this is the 'straw that broke the camel's back' when it comes to my life at present. Frankly, my whole head is a mess at this point: chronic eye and ear issues (have ETD now since the infection now), the return of migraines after several years without, three lost dental fillings in the space of a few months and now my facial skin health is screwed!
With me, it's different because it's not like I need to pare things back since I normally have such a simple, gentle routine anyway. It's more like I still need a simple routine, but with certain added healing and soothing factors which are going to help, and get, my skin to recover, a.s.a.p. I've also thought of just using water to cleanse my skin with and spritzing with just some Avene - nothing else - and seeing how that goes for a couple of weeks. But I worry how my skin might feel in the process.
Thank you so much for any advice.

2024.05.15 05:29 AlcoholismSucks Finally called CPS

So today was it and I called the CPS hotline.
My Q is my wife, and we've been in this fight about 3 years now. She tried to kill herself about a year ago with with a fist full of ibuprofen and Benadryl. Shortly after that I took her car to the interlock shop and signed up under their voluntary program, and that was probably my worst mistake. By getting a breathalyzer installed before a DUI she never really faced any consequences. Just replaced blown out tires from curbs and body panels from hitting street signs. We have two kids under 10 and my thought was the breathalyzer was protecting them.
Well that may have stopped her driving drunk but it didn't stop her drinking, she just saved it for the evenings, or on the weekends, and suddenly it became always me bringing the kids places or they couldn't go because she couldn't start her car.
Then last fall she started drinking hand sanitizer. Purell Omni defense...I Guess they didn't put the stuff in it that makes you throw up like they do for mouthwash. So that's been the last 6 months of so of finding those bottles everywhere. Arguments fights threats even getting kicked out for a week didn't stop her. Tried naltrexone to no avail. Two weeks ago started on antabuse and I don't know how, but STILL drinking. I didn't even know that was possible.
Wednesday she drank sanitizer because she "found an old hidden bottle and had a moment of weakness"
Friday she drank because she"wanted to hurt me"
Saturday I took the 8 year old fishing at 5am, left the 5 year old with her, and came home by two to find her flush faced, bloodshot eyes and bumping into walls and chewing my ass for nothing.
I had threatened CPS before but this made it clear she wasn't on the right track. So I called my therapist today and went over what happened. She agreed that engaging in self harm by drinking sanitizer while the primary caregiver crosses a line and that she would call it in as a mandatory reporter and that I should too.
The call took about 5 minutes, they gave me a case number and hung up all in less time than it took to write this post. They said they follow up within 24 hours.
Haven't told her yet as I want her to have one last night of peaceful sleep before whatever happens happens, but I imagine the next few days may be tough.
When she doesn't drink she's great- wakes the kids up, cooks breakfast and does homework and gets them to school on time, and it's a real Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde. If I engineer a family trip for a week where we are all together say in the woods camping it's love and sunshine and roses but as soon as we get back and she slithers off to her stash the monster comes out.
I mean I just can't get over hand sanitizer! I even went on junky forums where druggies and alcoholics give each other tips and everyone there says nah man don't drink sanitizer that's dangerous!
But I can't take it any more. I can't wait for her to go too far or to kill herself or to find out she's shot her kidneys or liver and have to tell my kids why didn't I do more while we bury their mom.
Anyway that's my rant, I can't tell my family or friends so I'm telling you all. Thanks for the support and someone tell me I'm not wrong for finally bringing her hopefully into the world of consequences.

Understanding Men’s Skin Types: How It Works and What You Need to Know
Discover your skin type and unlock your skincare potential!
Navigating the world of skincare can be a maze, especially with the variety of products and advice available. A crucial step in optimizing your skincare routine is understanding your skin type. Each type has its own characteristics and needs different care to stay healthy and look its best. Here’s a straightforward guide to help you identify and care for your skin type.

  1. Oily Skin: The Shine Factor
How It Works:
  • Production: Oily skin is the result of overactive sebaceous glands producing excess sebum, a natural skin oil.
  • Characteristics: You’ll notice a shiny or greasy appearance, particularly in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin).
  • Pores: These are often enlarged, and the skin is prone to blackheads and acne breakouts due to the buildup of oil and dead skin cells.
Care Tips:
  • Cleanse Regularly: Use a gentle, oil-free cleanser twice a day to control excess oil without overdrying your skin.
  • Matte-finish Products: Look for moisturizers and sunscreens that provide a matte finish to reduce shine.
  • Exfoliate Weekly: This helps to remove excess oil and dead skin cells, preventing clogged pores.
  1. Dry Skin: The Tightening Tale
How It Works:
  • Production: Dry skin produces less sebum than normal skin, lacking the lipids it needs to retain moisture and form a protective shield against external factors.
  • Characteristics: Skin feels tight, especially after cleansing, and may show flakes or scales with a rough texture.
  • Sensitivity: Prone to red patches and less elasticity, which can lead to visible lines and wrinkles.
Care Tips:
  • Hydrating Cleanser: Use a hydrating, soap-free cleanser that doesn’t strip moisture from the skin.
  • Rich Moisturizers: Look for creams with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides to help maintain and attract moisture.
  • Avoid Hot Water: Use lukewarm water when cleansing as hot water can further dry out your skin.
  1. Combination Skin: The Dual Dynamics
How It Works:
  • Production: Combination skin features two or more different skin types on the face, typically oily in the T-zone and dry or normal on other areas.
  • Characteristics: You might find some parts of your face are shiny, while others are either perfectly normal or dry.
  • Balance: The key challenge is managing both oily and dry areas without aggravating either.
Care Tips:
  • Balancing Act: Use a gentle cleanser that removes oil without overdrying the skin.
  • Targeted Treatment: Apply a mattifying moisturizer or primer on oily areas and a hydrating one on dry spots.
  • Gentle Exfoliation: Regularly exfoliate to balance the skin texture but be gentle to not irritate dry areas.
  1. Sensitive Skin: The Reactive Reality
How It Works:
  • Reactivity: Sensitive skin reacts more to irritants, allergens, and environmental changes, leading to redness, itching, and burning sensations.
  • Characteristics: It can show signs of redness, dryness, itching, and often feels tight and uncomfortable.
  • Triggers: Common triggers include certain skincare ingredients, fragrances, and harsh weather.
Care Tips:
  • Patch Test Products: Always patch test new products to check for reactions.
  • Fragrance-Free Formulas: Opt for skincare items that are free from fragrances, alcohol, and other potential irritants.
  • Soothing Ingredients: Look for products with aloe vera, chamomile, and other calming components.
5. Normal Skin: The Balanced Baseline
How It Works:
  • Balance: Normal skin has well-balanced sebum production and good circulation.
  • Characteristics: It’s neither too oily nor too dry, and has few blemishes, with a smooth texture and a clear, bright complexion.
  • Maintenance: This skin type is the least problematic, but it still benefits from a balanced skincare routine.
Care Tips:
  • Gentle Care: Use a gentle cleanser and a lightweight moisturizer to maintain skin’s natural balance.
  • Regular Routine: Stick with a basic skincare routine that includes cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection.
  • Seasonal Adjustments: Adjust your skincare products according to the changing seasons to maintain your skin’s perfect balance.
Identifying your skin type is the first step towards a tailored skincare routine that can withstand the rigors of a busy lifestyle. By understanding and addressing the specific needs of your skin, you enhance your appearance and fortify your skin’s health, ensuring you’re always ready to face the day with confidence.

2024.05.15 00:59 Secret-Inside-372 [Acne] Cleared my Adult Acne/Broken Skin Barrier in 3 months

[Acne] Sharing my story to help others <3
I recently had an Acne outbreak from a B-12 injection (which knew this was a thing??). After 2 weeks of about 20+ pimples continuing to develop I decided to visit a Dermatologist… the Dermatologist tried to prescribe very strong hormone altering pills/creams but I declined as being pregnant in the near future was on the cards & I knew my breakouts were not hormone related… Instead the Derm gave me Gycolic acid wipes and told me to use them twice a day… I did this for 1 month exactly and my skin was ruined. I broke my skin barrier so bad that I now had 100+ pimples….
Having never really been into skincare I had no idea how to even fix this issue… so after trying a month on my own using random products from Ulta & Sephora getting nowhere, I visited an Esthetician who recommended a whole new routine with just purely hydrating / non pore clogging products. Plus a couple of NDYag laser facials & extractions.
Using my new skincare products is trial and error as everyone’s skin is different, thoughout this experience I learnt that I cannot tolerate products with Fatty Alcohols. It took about 5-6 months in total from initially taking the B-12 injection to totally clear my skin but about 3 months of solid great skincare really did the trick. Along with avoiding inflammatory foods (canola/vegetable/sunflower oil, processed meats, sugars, dairy etc).
Products I use now that I love:
Products that made my breakouts worse:
In the past, before my B-12 breakout & broken skin barrier I had pretty clear skin for years and followed the below routine, I’ll look to go back to this over time. I have learnt it’s good to only introduce 1 product at a time slowly so you know how your skin is coping & how that product might react with other ingredients. If a product you use is making you breakout, you’ll know after about a week of using.

2024.05.14 21:30 Much-Shopping-9430 [Routine Help] Should I exfoliate more?

So l am very diligent with my skin care, and I am not particularly upset about anything other than the occasional breakout (... and a bad case of sebaceous filaments).
However, my biggest issue ever since I was about 13(im 21 now) has been an incredibly FLAKY T zone. Nose in particular. It's not just flaky, it peels. Im sorry for the image i have just given u. But it bothers me especially because it becomes so much more visible when I am wearing makeup It is never painful, unless my skin is as dry as sandpaper that day.
And you can obviously tell that it's DEAD skin. And although I do have a dru skin type, i really struggle with "black heads", or better labelled as sebaceous filaments. I've been suspecting seborrheic dermatitis for a while now but have never gone to a professional to actually confirm it.
My current routine is all directed towards hydration and moisturising. I have noticed that base makeup that includes harsh alcohols and fragrances aggravates it further. When I take my make up off with micellar water during the day, i need to apply some thin cream on top!
Otherwise its the sandpaper moment I know that, technically, one shouldn't leave micellar water on the face.
I have tried: -over exfoliating (obviously fail) - excluding exfoliating completely -Not washing my face in the mornings ( surprised to say: it got worse) -Slugging (only broke me out) -Only physically exfoliating -Only chemically exfoliating
My current routine has helped me minimise this issue on my forehead and chin, but alas, my nose persists. It currently goes like this:
• the inkey list oat oil cleanser (recent addition) • Eucerin DermaClean Hyaluron cleansing gel
• ONCE A WEEK 2% bha exfoliating liquid
• Q&A niacinamide toner • balea expert plump and glow serum (it has polyglutamic acid) • cosr snail essence (a fave, always come back to it)
• IN THE MORNING Q&A vitamic C serum
• la roche posay sensitive fluide • La roche posay Cicaplast Baume b5+
-* twice a week* Retinol at 0.4
And the obvious sunscreen every day! ♥️🥰
I know I should probably speak to a professional about this, but wanted to hear some thoughts and opinions.
