2024.05.17 17:19 smol_biscuit09 Why is my car overheating?

I have a 2015 Chevy Cruze 130k miles (I know this car sucks) back in August all of the upper coolant hoses blew off and the water housing unit failed as well. I changed out the small reservoir hose and water housing unit and re-clamped the upper hose.
Flash forward to a couple weeks ago and the upper clamp fell off causing all my coolant to leak. Car nearly over heated but didn't die or anything since I was thankfully right outside my apartment complex. I re-clamped that upper hose again and a few days later it popped off and there was another leak. So I said fuck it and a couple nights ago changed out the entire upper coolant hose. This meant taking off the front bumper to gain access to the other end of the hose that goes into the radiator. Refilled it with coolant.
Fixed it no issue drove about 120 miles and then it started to over heating on me this morning. Pulled over and most/ all of my coolant was gone. Refilled it and it drove normal again.
There was no leak and no sign of coolant anywhere in the engine bay. I also recently had the car serviced and diagnosis tests done a week before the upper coolant hose first popped off . I ended up getting a new coil pack, plugs and gasket cover, so I don't think it would be a blown head gasket issue or they would have told me. My friend said it might have just had to recirculate in the radiator but l'm spectacle. Any ideas?

2024.05.17 16:55 theavocadopenguin Chevy Volt on I-80 near Waverly this morning

Lincoln - If you have someone in your life that drives a white Chevy Volt who was getting on East-Bound I-80 at Waverly this morning around 7:45am, please, PLEASE get them to therapy. They need help.
I was cruising in the middle lane at 85mph. I came up to the Waverly on-ramp, there were multiple cars getting on the interstate, a white sedan in front and a Chevy Volt behind them. I was in the middle lane so I didn’t get over. The Volt merged onto the interstate and started to pass the sedan but they were at the end of the on ramp and the sedan had nowhere to go. So the Volt cuts in front of me, and we’re almost bumper to bumper. And they Lose. Their. Shit. I can see the driver flailing their arms at me right before they brake check me. This happened within seconds of them cutting me off so it’s not like I was purposefully tailing them. So I get over to pass them and the driver is RAGING, they’re flipping me off and yelling at me. I didn’t look at them while I passed but when I looked in my rear view mirror they were still losing their shit and holding up the bird. They ended up passing me later and rolled down their window so they could stick their arm out and continue to flip me off. For their own terrible driving…
So please, get them some help, their anger management needs work before they flip out again in a situation that has more consequences.

2024.05.16 18:06 Handout I've got a Chevy express 6.0l, and my hubby fell in love with a 37' trailer

I've pulled a 26' (not including bumper+hitch) with a GVRW of about 5,000 lb in the past with a heavy duty Jeep Grand Cherokee (5500 tow cap). It fishtailed sometimes when big trucks would pass, but never had an issue getting into parking lots or gas stations or campgrounds.
I now have a Chevy Express 2500 6.0 l with the 10,000 lb towing capacity and we are looking to get a trailer to live in full-time for a little while.. I was thinking something between 25 and 30 ft (minus number+hitch).
Of course he falls in love with a 36.8 ft trailer, but that is including bumper and hitch.. so by comparison, it seems like it's ~6 ft longer than my previous trailer.
Dry weight is around 7,000 lb, GVRW is just over 9,000 lb. It has three slide outs, which is something else I'm not used to.
I'm a bit nervous about it. I don't think we're planning on moving this one as often as my old one.. we were moving that one every 2 to 4 weeks. We are only looking to move this one every 3 to 9 months.
What do you think? Should I push for him to focus more on smaller trailers or would we likely be okay?

2024.05.16 04:30 Rogersandhammerstein Bodyshop suggested door replacement. Overkill?

My wife backed into this low mileage clean 2008 Chevy uplander. It was parked across from our driveway in the street. The owner took it to a collision shop, and they quoted a full door replacement. On it are front bumper and headlamp remove/replace work. Those parts were not touched or damaged, nor was the sliding door. Confused about that. The whole invoice is $2700. Why wouldn’t they recommend to pull the dent, fill the holes and paint? I assume that’s a more reasonable course of action and much cheaper. Note: we did not exchange insurance information, so this is all out of pocket for us. Thanks for the help.

Am I missing anything?
Am I missing anything?
I’m a diy guy who’s probably more competent than most diy people. I’ve done a few engine swaps in the past. A couple Toyotas a Chevy cavalier and a Hyundai. I have an opportunity to get paid helping someone do an engine swap for themselves and want to make sure I have the torque specs right and a full idea for the whole procedure. Im not sure if the bumper reinforcement bar is tack welded to the frame but even still removing only the radiator and condenser assembly will give me much more room to work when using a hoist. It would be nice if the re bar was not welded though. But I think they are torqued at 148 lbs/ft? Just for reference this is for a 3.7 but I’ve read the 3.5 is the same exact engine just with different sizes for the cylinder bores.

2024.05.14 17:54 OriginalPapaya8 The VW Gol GTI, Fiat Uno Turbo IE. and the Chevrolet Corsa GSI. Three amazing Brazilian hot hatches.

The VW Gol GTI, Fiat Uno Turbo IE. and the Chevrolet Corsa GSI. Three amazing Brazilian hot hatches.
CHEVROLET CORSA GSI: It came with a 1.6 Ecotec engine with double camshafts and 16 valves, a very modern package for the time and imported from Hungary. Powered by gasoline, it produced 108 hp of power and 14.8 kgfm or 9.94 lb/ft of torque, enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds and reach 192 km/h – the Corsa was a light car. The compact hatch also had a transmission with closer ratios, as well as firmer springs and shock absorbers, not to mention the look with exclusive 14-inch wheels, rear spoiler and sunroof.
-HP: 108 hp
-Torque: 14,8 kg/m or 9,94 lb/ft
-0 - 100 km/h or 0 - 62 mph: 9.8 s
-Top Speed: 192 km/h or 119.3 mph
FIAT UNO TURBO IE: The sports car was equipped with a 1.4 (1,372 cm³) engine imported from Italy, which worked with 0.8 bar of turbo pressure to deliver 118 hp of power and a maximum torque of 17.5 kgfm. Also thanks to its weight of just 975 kg, the Uno Turbo accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and reached a top speed of 195 km/h. At the time, the Fiat hatch was at the top of the podium of the fastest national cars, beating none other than the Gol GTi, Kadett GSi and Escort XR3 in both acceleration and maximum speed - practically tying with the Corsa GSi 1.6 16V. To accompany the stronger engine, Fiat made some exclusive changes to the model. It had a lower ride height (10 mm or 0,394 inches), an oil cooler, larger brake discs and a recalibrated suspension, featuring shock absorbers with greater load and a stabilizer bar at the rear. All in all, it greatly favored the dynamic behavior of the hatch. Despite its Italian origin, the Brazilian Uno Turbo gained a slightly different look from the European model. It was much more eye-catching with more prominent bumpers, side skirts and exclusive fender moldings, in addition to 14" alloy wheels with 185/60 R14 tires. The seats were properly sporty, being enveloping and with a different fabric, the brand also enhanced the environment with red seat belts. The cluster was alien-like in a panel that was simple, being the same one used until the end of the first generation. It had a speedometer with an exciting 240 km/h or 149 mph counter and rev counter, as well as fuel level gauge and water temperature gauge. However, there was still a turbo pressure gauge, as well as oil temperature and pressure gauges. The three-spoke steering wheel had smooth shapes, clashing with the boxy set. An interesting fact was that Fiat offered a complementary, professional driving course for the first owners of the model.
-HP: 118 hp
-Torque: 17,5 kg/m or 11,75 lb/ft
-0 - 100 km/h or 0 - 62 mph: 9,2s
-Top Speed: 195 km/h or 121 mph
VOLKSWAGEN GOL GTI: The Volkswagen Gol GTi was a car that made history in Brazil as it was the first vehicle equipped with electronic injection as standard. Furthermore, at the time of its launch in 1989, it had fabulous performance thanks to the AP 2.0 engine in a light car like the Gol. The 1994 Gol GTI has a sporty look, with fog lights level with the front grille, 14-inch BBS aluminum wheels, a series of black stickers and a huge spoiler on the trunk lid. The bumpers were the same as the conventional Gol, but in this GTI version they had blue filets - further characterizing the model's sporty feel. The interior of the 1994 Gol GTI was no less impressive than the exterior. The model adopted huge Recaro sports seats, covered in a black mesh fabric with gradient yellow motifs that make the look very pleasant. At the wheel, the driver had one of the best driving positions that the Gol has ever offered, with a four-spoke steering wheel with excellent grip, which in this 1994 model had, for the first time in the history of the Gol, hydraulic assistance. Furthermore, the panel with satellite controls made access to the controls extremely easy, allowing the driver to operate them without taking their hands off the steering wheel - something important in a sports car. The Gol GTI came as standard, very complete, with, in addition to the hydraulic steering mentioned above, electric windows and locks, air conditioning, sound system, electrically operated mirrors, among other items.
-HP: 120 hp
-Torque: 18,4 kg/m or 12,36 lb/ft
-0 - 100 km/h or 0 - 62 mph: 9,2 s
-Top Speed: 181 km/h or 112,4 mph

2024.05.14 17:21 big_cleck General Tundra shopping advice (looking for)

Looking (slowly) for a new to me truck for years, have always wanted a Tundra because I know Toyota reliability and dependability is most of the reason for owning a Toyota (have owned a Camry and MR2 in the past). The current truck market scares the everloving hell out of me - new trucks cost more than my mortgage balance, and even used trucks are still being sold for what new trucks were sold for in recent years. That being said, I'm still looking, but opening myself up to higher mileage, older options.
Here's my situation: I'm a former mechanic, so I can still do stuff in the driveway. I work from home now, so I fill up gas once a month in my 2011 Equinox that gets 18mpg. In the winter, I snowblow some driveways, so I have a cargo carrier I have on my hitch receiver, carries around my Ariens. Last year, my wife was rear-ended while she was driving it by an out-of-state driver w/ expired insurance. Couple of scrapes on the bumper cover, no problem, it's old, she drives off. Recently come to find out there's decent rot in that corner where the receiver bolts to the frame, and definitely some damage that makes me not wanna use the receiver anymore. I also cut trees for firewood, haul normal homeowner stuff, and hunt some family property, etc. I've done as much as I think I can do w/ this thing, want to move up. On occasion, I also need to haul (5) 50 gal Husky tool boxes full of chainsaw gear for volunteer work
What I'm looking for advice on: ideally I'm looking for at least a 2nd gen. As a former Chevy mechanic, if I was looking for Silverados that age, I'd know they're ready to fall apart, or they have lifter tick issues that need to be addressed. With a Tundra, I have no idea what to look for. How much mileage is too much? Gas mileage isn't my concern, because I don't drive much. I'll gladly drop down 10mpg to be in something I wanna be in. Not afraid to look at the non-5.7 because I don't tow, is it a capable motor? Can it pull? Trans issues? Electrical, etc? What would you see in a Tundra that would make you say, "Nah, I'm all set"?

2024.05.14 07:24 ZeldaTheOuchMouse My idea for an open world crime based action adventure game:

Heres my idea for an open world crime based action adventure game:
I want a modern open world game with modern graphics, modern physics, driving and combat mechanics, the whole 9 yards, but it takes place in New Orleans LA in the Early 2000’s, the game would have hundreds and hundreds of licensed cars, licensed songs ALL period correct and as many licensed brands as i can get in the game to make the setting more resemble real life, we’ve seen so many fantasy brands and fake cities and companies based off real life companies and i want to change that, i want all electronics of the era to be 100% accessible and usable in the game, everything from Motorola Razr’s, PDA’s, Laptops and The Internet in FULL early 2000’s style, Alpine and Sony X-Plod Car Headunits etc
Im going to say this now: there would be ZERO references or mentions of Hurricane Katrina in this game, the timeline would be 2002 to Summer 2005 before Katrina, Katrina wouldn’t be mentioned as it wouldn’t exist
The story is about a young transgender woman in her 20’s who lives in the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, she drives a beat up 80’s-Early 90’s Pontiac at the start of the game and lives with her sister, at the beginning of the game nobody respects her, misgenders her and deadnames her, the idea is to hit the nail on the head with how trans people are treated on a daily basis, she progresses through the underground hustling ranks of New Orleans after being offered a job and proves to be someone who will go to great lengths to get the job done, everything from street racing in a scene that fully captures Early 2000’s tuner culture, winning cars in pinkslip races, shootouts from deals gone bad in nightclubs, encounters with corrupt police officers etc, at the end of the game shes a wealthy kingpin in the city and has earned the respect of mostly everyone and everyone speaks highly of her, i also want to slip in alot of little references to games and franchises i love like Earthbound, Clock Tower, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Bad Boys, Need For Speed etc and make the user interface and menus feel like its from the Early 2000’s but also pay homage and respect to New Orleans Mardi Gras and jazz culture and for the world to be crammed full of life with NPC’s, animals, weather, random events, random encounters and interactions and basically how it would be in real life
The map i want to be the most accurate virtual recreation of New Orleans ever done just circa 2002-2005, i want as many enterable interiors in the game as possible, i want to include everything from Jazzland Theme Park, the Bayou areas, Lake Pontchatrain, East New Orleans, The SuperDome, the then New Orleans Arena next door, Shopping Malls, Car Dealerships for each brand in the game, Upper class Neighborhoods, Trailer Parks, Nightclubs, bars and of course the French quarter and Canal Street
I also want to take customization to a whole new level, give a Sims like ability to customize, furnish and build your home and character however you like, and of course the Early 2000’s fashion will be in full swing here, i want the most in-depth car customization of any game ever, its the early 2000’s after all, i want body kits, bumpers, hoods, wings, headlights and tail lights, the ability to customize the headunit in your car, put subwoofers in the trunk, rims, spinners, donks, lambo doors, underglow and of course in depth performance upgrades ALL parts be name brand, like Bomex body kits, TYC tail lights, JL Audio Amps, Subwoofers, Lowenhart, Lexani, Asanti, DUB and TIS rims, APR aluminum wings etc, i basically want to make the customization in Need For Speed Underground 2 look like a mobile game
And the car list, i want to have over 600 fully licensed cars in the game minimum and be fully customizable down to every single part, since the plot of the game starts in 2002 and ends in 2005, i want NOTHING newer than 2006 in the game
Cadillac Escalade, Hummer H2 and Chrysler 300C are a must, but i also want to have the 99-04 Mustang, both V6 and GT, Ferrari 360 Modena, Spider and Challenge Stradale, Ferrari 550, Lamborghini Murcièlago and Gallardo, but also include more common lesser loved cars like the Chevy Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire, Pontiac Grand Am, Geo Metro, Dodge Neon, Chrysler Concorde, Chevy Celebrity, Ford Taurus etc, and of course i’ll have bikes, boats, planes, helicopters and all other types of vehicles
Yeah its a GTA/Saints Row type game, but i want to raise the bar, push boundaries and do something different thats never been done before

Hey 👋 I need to repair my front bumper of my Chevy Bolt 2020 (thanks racoon..). The thing is, I can get the part for a very good price, but only the part (all plastic). Not painted, primed, anything.
I'm convinced I would be able to paint it myself. Many people have told me not to do it, but I really want to and I'd take any precautions and time to do it perfectly.
I would buy an electric spray gun, enough primer, paint and gloss, sanding pads (to prep the surface), a tarp to cover the area I'd be working in. I'd do it in a closed garage (with ventilation). I'd do a test strip (on something else) to get use to the gun... I have this voice inside telling me it would be good.
I've already changed the bumper once, I can deassemble and reassemble the grille and the sensors.
If I would do it, would it be weird to put an other color than the rest of the car? Stylelike? Or should I just put the og color? Would there be other steps I should take to do it? What are the drying delays in between the layers? How much paint should I buy?
Any help would be very much appreciated 🙏🤟

2024.05.13 04:00 abrandright Chevy Silverado compatible parts

I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 non HD. It has the 6.0 vortex, it’s a three door extended cab and the 6.5’ bed. I’m looking to replace both front and rear bumpers and the bed. Are the 1500 Silverado parts the same? And any other parts for that matter? Any information is appreciated.

2024.05.12 02:53 UpstairsBrave7658 Horse Hauling Truck

Horse hauling Recommendations?
I’m on the hunt for my first truck to haul my horse with!
I know nothing about diesel trucks especially older ones.
Please give me your best recommendations for search on Facebook Marketplace place for good deals!!
Some general info:
-I am located in East TN
-this truck will only be used for hauling purposes. It will only be pulling a 3H trailer at most. I would heavily prefer a truck that has the gooseneck ball in the bed so I can get a gooseneck trailer and not a bumper pull.
-my horse is pretty small he’s 14.1hh probably 950lbs. I’ll be getting another appy or a mule so nothing massive.
-I’ve been told to look for a F250 7.3L. I’m seeing a lot with high mileage on the early 2000s models from marketplace. How many miles is too much?
-I’m open to any brand. What are the comparables to the F250 7.3L in dodge, Chevy, and GMC?
