Hi, I'd like to start with introducing myself. I'm 24F and Last year this time of the year, I was dating a guy who was a follower of the red pill community. We were in a long distance relationship and met only a few times. The relationship was about 8-9 Months long. For people who are not aware about it, Red pill community is a group of guys that blame females for all there problems and they feel that females are privileged and hence, They've always have an upper hand and have ruined their life by taking away their opportunities and what now.
I wasnt aware what i was getting myself into but I want to make others aware. So I'll talk about the various "red flags" of my relationship and how it affected me. I am not longer in a relationship with that guys.

1. Guy Friends: We meet online and his initial communication never showed any hatred for women as such. He seemed interested in me and quickly asked me to date him as well. He would often "praise" that I had no guy friends which was a "green flag". (In reality I had no friends, let alone male friends.) He said girls with boyfriends should not have guy friends. Its disrespectful to the boyfriend. Even thou, He has a female best friend. I took this lightly. Later in our relationship, he made me unfollow a bunch of guys on instagram. They were former classmates and colleagues. I'd not met most of them for years and months. He would often ask me if my dad had female friends or if my mom had male friends and when I would say no. He would say, See because one shouldnt friends of opposite gender
   
2. Clubbing: He hated girls who were open about their sexuality and would call them names. He said girls in a relationship should not go to clubs as thats a "hoe" place to be in. I remember fighting to go to a club when an old friend was visiting me and she wanted to go to one of our fave clubs from our college days. He said he is disappointed in me and that going to clubs with a single friend is the worst as she might try to hook up with guys and I'll be left alone and then someone will hookup with me. He said and I quote "I will not leave my car in a shady areas and pray to god that it doesnt get stolen. It's my mistake I went there at the first place." I ended up going to a bar instead of a club. He made me feel really bad about that as well later.
   
3. Content: After the 2nd month he would send me red pill youtube and reddit content to normalize such preaching and thats when things really got out of hand because I didnt know what to believe and what not to. I thought maybe I was delusional my whole life and that this is the "reality of the world" where women are these "ruthless" beings. (He said I was special because I was trying to make myself aware about it). He specifically showed and talked about this one story where the wife cheats on her husband because he's always busy at work (He said the poor guy is working his ass off for the family and the wife is so ungrateful) The wife cheats and marries her boyfriend and takes the kid and the guy's money and what not. I'm not saying cheating is good but the interruption of every story led to the same conclusion that women are bad. He said this is the reality. I started questioning myself more and more as I got trapped in the red-pill community.
   
4. Future: He was very sure about our future and said that he wanted me to be his wife. He said he doesnt want me to work. Females should stay at home cook and clean and take care of the babies. He said it would hurt him to see me work as he's the man of the house.
   
5. Comments on Body: I'm overweight atm but when I was dating him I used to be in better shape. He said He likes that I take care of my body and anything else would be a disrespect to the person you are dating. One should always look like how they looked when they first started dating. One shouldnt "let go" of their body. He used to go to the gym and would insist that I go to. Later in the relationship towards the end, I started my masters and Couldnt be active. The relationship was taking a toll on me as well and I started gaining weight. He would comment on it. I would share photos with him and the first comment would always be like "you look thin in this" or " Oh! In picture toh you look fine only " He did motivate me to go to the gym which i was grateful about but at that point I only went to make him happy and not because I actually wanted to go.
   

These were some of the red flags I could think about. He cheated on me. He had been cheating the last 3 Months of our relationship. He initially broke up saying I had gained weight and he wasnt attracted to me and also because he couldnt see any future in our LDR. Later he confessed that he had been cheating on me and left me because he started getting physical with the other girl and it was no longer "just talking". He said I was trying to get rid of me for a while but I never let him leave. All in All. It ended. It took me quite some thing to realize how I was brainwashed into accepting a whole new reality masked as ' I love you thats why I'm helping you understand the real world'.
I have trust issues (ofc!) and It's been hard to undo the damage. I started dated a new guy recently and caught myself saying You cant have girl best friends and it broke my heart later when I realized. Its a long healing path for me. If any of you are experiencing something similar, Please be aware.

I'm a 14 year old male from the Philippines and I recently moved to Canada in late October last year. these past 6 - 7 months living here have been great! We recently gotten a car and my mom asked my dad for money because of our financial difficulties since she's the one paying everything. My dad still looking for a job here in Canada and receiving monthly military pension said no, my mom then said how she gave my dad money when she was a flight attendant and how she's very tired now. This one sentence made a whole butterfly effect on their relationship.
My dad yelled at her in the car and got so pissed to the point that he ignores my mom now. He slept on the couch yesterday and just randomly gets mad at her, he didn't even want to go to church with me and my mom today. I knew my dad had anger issues even if he wasn't diagnosed with it because of the way he acts. Ever since that happened the words "Just because you're pissed doesn't mean you stop caring for her" whenever I look at him. I don't know if this will lead to a divorce or anything... I still hope they'll be okay.
PS: I held back some tears while writing this.

For me it has been a long road of trying out different gender labels and realizing that it didn't fit. Eventually I realized that I was a trans guy and proceeded to go on testosterone. Once on testosterone I started to realize that I don't have to fit in with binary males and can be a man in any way I want because there is no one way to be a man. So here I am a man beyond the binary boxes! I've also realized that you're not limited to one label and you can use as many as you feel fit, It's been very freeing.

Graphics/art style: i remember it being fairly dark themed, no gore, no surreal/cyberpunk/history settings, cant quite tell if there was day and night but we did not have seasons
Notable characters: I think the characters were wearing modern clothes, There were both female and male characters and they kinda looked like puppets or similar to The Rabbids. They were not human/robots
Notable gameplay mechanics: The only thing that comes to my mind is that they were doing some dance moves or cool tricks of some sort to hit eachother (every attack had a fairly long and well made animation and i think you had to click a pattern in order to do a successful attack) and that you could recruit these characters once you defeated them
Other details: The game was also available in Italy in italian. It has been 13 years this is all i can remember

For example you're watching TV, and say "this is funny." Do you have to have a noun in mind (movie [female], or program [male] (as example)), or can you describe things generically with male adjectives, as long as the noun isn't mentioned by name?
I'll start with English: there's no wiggle room. "He" strictly refers to "man" or "boy" and objects/females NEVER get this pronoun.

I just had a really terrifying moment while I was shopping alone (I am a woman in my 20s) with my 12lb mini doodle or possibly a poodle? (He’s a shelter rescue dog from a breeder surrender so not totally sure). He gets a lot of attention everywhere we go, so strangers approaching me to ask about him is a very common occurrence.
However, today a man started following me around and was clearly filming and taking photos of me and my dog. From there he proceeded to ask me a bunch of really detailed questions about my pup. I explained that he’s a rescue, so I’m not 100% sure what his breed is or where he came from. The man proceeded to accuse me of lying and said “there’s no dogs like that who are rescued from shelters, that dog is worth thousands of dollars” and then kept getting closer to me to try and reach for him while asking me how much I paid for him, how much does he weigh, what do you feed him, etc...
I immediately felt uncomfortable and no longer needed to defend where I adopted my dog and I had a gut feeling that something was wrong. I said thank you have a nice day and turned around. He kept following me, but this time was FaceTiming another male telling him to come here immediately to see my dog. The faster I walked away the closer he followed so at that point I picked up my dog in my arms and went to the front of the store near the register. I paid for my belongings and whispered to the cashier that this dude keeps following me aggressively and taking photos/videos of us. The cashier was nice enough to walk me to my car after and the weirdo walked away in the other direction.
Am I overreacting? My pup is precious and absolutely looks like the type of dog that would cost a lot of money and would be highly sought after. I just felt so nervous in that moment and now wonder if I need to be careful bringing him in public because you do hear horror stories of people stealing popular dog breeds or robbing people in plain sight.

So basically when i was 4 i had an allergic reaction to shellfish, and the doctors told my mom to keep me away from all fish.

The mistake is to assume that naming a problem is enough to solve it. I’ve come to think of this as the “Rumpelstiltskin fallacy” — or I also think of a famous Arthur C. Clarke short story, which I won’t spoil by naming it. But clearly I’m not the first person to use these metaphors, and if I google “Rumpelstiltskin principle” (or “effect” or “fallacy”) then I get all kinds of interesting usages… some of which overlap with what I’m talking about, none of which are quite the same thing.
So I’m just calling it a “mistake” here, because it doesn’t seem to reduce to a single logical fallacy or cognitive bias, and it may be more of a compound or second-order heuristic. I’ll give a few examples in different domains, and I’m hoping that someone can either point to where the umbrella concept has been better defined and discussed, or explain why I’m off base in thinking of it as a single mechanism.

1. Politics: whenever one side gets overly attached to some concept or framing, with demands that the other side either use or renounce specific terms. In the US, one obvious two-way example today is “critical race theory,” but another was “Islamic fundamentalism” in the post-9/11 period.
   
2. Psychology / self-help: on the one hand you’ve got Tumblr style therapy culture, with these increasingly specific taxonomies of identity, neurodivergence, trauma, etc. On the other end of that cultural axis, you’ve got pop Stoicism and other repackaged virtue ethics, which can be just as reductivist in practice.
   
3. Social science: the blank slate and the rational actor seem like parallel left-ish and right-ish examples. You might say they were each initially useful as a simplifying assumption (e.g. let’s zero out what we “know” about innate male/female differences, to see how much of it is really socially constructed) but they became reified to the point that whole new “contrarian” subfields formed just to question them, like behavioral econ or evo psych.
   
4. Culture: just the rise of fan culture and the increasing “meta-ness” of taste — the idea that explaining or contextualizing music/film/books is the point of consuming them, or that it’s somehow prior to consumption. So we could talk about right-coded objections to diverse Marvel movies, or left-coded objections to Young Adult plots... but one of the earliest signs for me was when new TV shows started to be promoted with interviews with the cast, before even telling you what the show was about.
   

I appreciate that I’m stretching the meaning of “naming” to mean defining, explaining or framing, and stretching the definition of “problem” too. I realize you could tackle each of my examples with a stack of other concepts, like map vs territory, man-with-a-hammer syndrome, “solutionism,” confirmation bias, and so on.
But am I right that there’s some other overarching mechanism they all share? Sort of a convergence on this same pattern of magical thinking, derailing from practical subjects into theory that doesn’t ramify the way we want it to? Or am I just overthinking it?

hello all .
i am looking for some advice, some questions to ask the doctors caring for him, just help in general.
my son is a twin (Baby B). they were born 27w0d on Feb 9 2024 but they were due May 10th 2024. they both graduated from the NICU and came home. Baby A came home doing fine and still is, but Baby B almost died and he’s now in the PICU on a ventilator not able to breathe on his own.
so here’s a quick backstory on Baby B- they were both on track, just growing and maturing as much as they could while in the NICU. they both had Grade 2 brain bleeds in NICU, but that is common for babies born extremely premature. we were told that it would absorb on its own, and they wouldn’t suffer from any disabilities stemming from that. Baby B was on a conventional ventilator for 12hrs in the NICU one time. even on the High Flow machine, he would desat, Baby A hardly had this problem. Baby A came home a week before Baby B, because B would constantly desat. B wasn’t even home for a week when tragedy struck. The morning of his first Pediatric Appointment, I noticed he was grayish, but he was still breathing. Days leading up to that he slowly stopped eating as much, but I didn’t stress to bad because I knew he was going to the Dr. The pediatrician said he was “fine”, clearly he wasn’t. But immediately after that appointment they had an Eye Dr Follow Up to go to. There is when their dad noticed something terrible was coming about, he was visibly GRAY with a blue nose & lips. The Eye Dr brought over a different doctor who he said could help, but even that doctor said he was “fine”. Their dad brought them home and I picked B up out of his car seat and he was limp, blue, with a heart beat so faint I thought he was going to leave us.
Ambulance came and he’s been at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital for almost a month now. They’ve found some things but everything they have found they said it isn’t why he can not breathe on his own. Brain Bleed went to another spot, but they said that’s not why. Found Pneumonia, but they said that’s not why. Both of his lungs partially collapsed, but they said that’s not why either. They took him off of the ventilator, but they just called me and said that his heart rate dropped very low and they had to do CPR to get it back up. They still don’t know what could be wrong, I even requested a Pulmonologist like a reddit user told me to do. They said it’s nothing they can see that’s causing his apnea.
At this point I’m LOST. What does this sound like to you all ? What could this be ?? Every question I asked, every question Dad has asked just seems sugarcoated. They talk to us like dummies. Please someone, direct me somewhere.

Lets leave aside any technical considerations here, because we all know that's a dodge and not why anybody has objections.
For 15 years at least, people have been pushing for mods to Bioware games that add options to romance characters who would normally not be available to your race/gendeetc.
But its always to add the option to romance a character as a same gendered character. And great. You want to romance Thane or Garrus as a Male Shep, go for it. I am glad those mods exist for people who want that option. Its your personal game, it doesn't affect anybody else's game. Practically nobody has a problem with that.
But the times I've seen a request for a mod to allow an opposite gender character to romance a character normally only available to same sex characters, everybody goes up in arms about it.
Especially in the case of Traynor. I've got to play Femshep for three games so that in the last game I can romance Traynor? In the first game, you only get Liara and in the second game there's nobody. I've tried running the romances with guys as a female character and as a male character, I just can't get into it.
And I could have said the same thing to those of you wanting to romance Ashley or Miranda as a FemShep "Why don't you just play MaleShep? Then you can romance them." But I understand, you want to play FemShep but you still want to be able to romance Ashley or Miranda or Tali and great, I'm glad those mods exist for you. Would be nice if there were ones for Traynor or Sera. Or even Dorian for those who like playing a female Inquisitor in Inquisition (oh wait, that mod does exists even though its actually an important part of Dorian's story that he faces difficulties with his family for being gay. No such issues like that exist for Traynor or Sera yet those mods are curiously absent.)

Yeah, and the person who made the femQuisitoDorian mod didn't have voice files either. Those lines simply go voiceless in that mod. Same could be done for these other two.
Its for a player to add an option to their own game. TraynoSera is still canonically a lesbian. She'll still be a lesbian in your game. Nothing is being erased.
Admit it. There's a double standard here.
