- B and his hard brexit allies N and J had repeatedly scuppered several versions of the deal to the fury and disappointment of the european union.
- B and the "lies" he was accused of telling were also blamed for the Leave vote generally.
- B has spent most of his political and journalistic career attacking and lampooning the eropean union (since the 1990s).
- B had recently likened Brexit to escaping from a Nazi prison camp.
- B had recently compared the objective of the Eropean Union to that of the Nazi party, which to the German-born Me, leader of the Christian Democrats in Germany, would be an enormous and unforgivable offense.

While initial long-distance photo opportunity of the two observing a parade, sitting stony faced facing opposite directions matched the atmosphere, the press conference afterwards [Watch the video] began with jokes and giggling, like two old friends being reunited.

B to Me "It feels like fate has brought us together". They both laugh.

Why would he use that particlar phrase and why would they both laugh?
- It's not obviosly funny, especially by his standards.
- It doesn't quite make sense. Me has been the head of state of one of the most powerful nation's on earth for a decade, whereas B is a part-time politician/celebrity, who was once Mayor of London. This phrase is soemtimes used to describe the coming together of lovers - which is fnny if yo look at them both. But within the Brexit context, as a pair, they have no obvious connection that would merit this comment or this reaction. Brexit is spposed to be abot the 27 vs UK.
- Also, they are not meant to like each other.

B to Me (re Brexit negotiations which he has been obstructing for months) "We can do it". This happens to be the exact phrase Me used to persade the German pblic to allow hndreds of thosands of refugees into Germany from Syria - over a million across the european union - for which she was roundly criticised in the German press as an ill-conceived disaster. Her reaction was natural and spontaneos laughter. Me is a serious stateswoman and this jibe should have represented a major insult, bt instead she could not contain her mirth.

- Erdogan, president of Trkey, had attacked the Kurds - USA's allies against ISIS - in Northern Syria, leaving USA little time to pull its troops from the region thereby avoiding becoming embroiled in a much more dangerous conflict against competing states like Russia, Iran, Trkey etc.
- Trump had been boasting that defence spending of NATO members had increased after his threats toward the futre of the organisation dring his 2016 election campaign.
- Since Brexit, talk of a European army were back on the cards, as UK had always previusly vetoed the idea in favour of NATO.

Boris to NATO leaders, which contains most EU leaders, who he is at odds with, pls Trkey, whose president he insulted, USA and Canada "If we stick together, no-one can hope to defeat us"

Why would Boris choose these particular words?
- It is boastful, incendiary and almost belligerent.
- It acknowledges a possible split in the alliance.
- It states clearly that the people in that room and the interests they represent are in an insurmontable position, if they just stick together.
- Given NATO was established to counter the threat of Russia (formerly USSR), which is in a military alliance with China, "no-one" clearly includes them. The idea that the great armies of Rssia and China could not even "hope" to defeat NATO does not make any sense at all. It is totally at odds with all of the military and diplomatic news and analysis that has been conducted over recent years as P has built up and exercised every aspect of Russia's warfare machine - conventional and unconventional. With X also building.
- This statement does not ring true to the NATO v Russia/China scenario, we've been taight to dread in newspapers and politics for past 20 years.
- Could Boris have an ulterior meaning for the ppl in that room?
