2024.06.02 10:49 N0-Mango Hi, if you know some can you link me to some royalty free character arts that can be used on the anime game called Glory/ dungeon fighter online/blade and soul. All kinds of help is appreciated.

Can we even make this game?
BTW royalty free character arts are character arts that don't require payment to use for business.
It's just for a personal project that might take 9 years to make with my friends but they're busy so. Trying to make many people's dream gane will be a bad ride will it? If some others made their own version of glory link me pls. Now, Here's info about the game:
Name of game •>Seance: With My Glory<•
That name sorta means the moment of sitting while playing my version of the game called Glory from the anime called King's Avatar.
I'll talk about the game and these are straight out of my notepad I wrote to not forget about it. Pls don't take it very seriously as they're temporary designs. TLDR: I need character arts either 2d drawing or 3d model that is free to use for my game I'd like to make. How would you make a fun game like Glory on the anime called the King's avatar?
The game features: chances of fighting scenarios happening by chance (imagine cinematic fights) everytime you fulfill the condition/s (like be a certain distance away from enemies and staying on that distance for a very short while. There will be a bar that shows how long you have to stay and if that bar dont appear then even if you meet the condition/s for a scenario there wont be a scenario <•thats for making the players engage in simple non-cinematic combat of aiming and using melee, block the melee attacks, etcetera so players won't move around weirdly unlike the anime) and once you're in a fighting scenario the game decides which keys/buttons will be needed to be pressed and the keys or buttons are decided by RNG. The buttons comes and goes within a short timeframe. (It's a refllex test, those with slower reflex won't be able to press the buttons fast enough thus fail at doing so) The keys required to be pressed is shown on the screen. This is for mimicking the artistic key/button presses seen in the anime. Do know that in a few seconds you can find and scrap several of the fighting scenarios available for you in a location relative to the enemy/enemies. (That's all I got right now, inform me of your version)
The better the scenario the slimmer the chance to pull off the requirement to take part in it.
Fleshing it out: There are 3 types of scenarios: Passive Submission Type - scenarios of one sided fights where the enemy cannot act to protect himself. Passive Semi-submission Type - scenarios where both players can decide the outcome of the scenario they're both in by pressing the right buttons faster. This should mainly occur at melee range for sending the enemies away as an opening for other scenarios to possibly be used And Passive Non-submission Type - a scenario where a player under it does it alone to do any of and a combination of: attacking and dodging. Which can miss.
The conditions for the scenarios are: *Be at a certain distance long enough *See the enemy while maintaining a certain distance
So think of the enemy as a stack of four 50 feet wide pizzas with crusts that are 30 feet high made by El Fuerte with different toppings per slice on the same location. if you're in the pepperoni region you do one thing relative to the enemy, if you're in the pineapple region you do something else relative to the enemy, if you're on the MNM region, gummy bear region, spinach region (yes they're also pizza toppings) you do 3 different other things relative to the enemy but that's all just 1 slice of 1 whole pizza and each whole pizza has different toppings and being in their region makes you do other things. Divide the stack of pizzas to thin identical slices from the top and now imagine each slice has enough room to hold one topping per 10 feet of the length of its upper surface. Those toppings would make the different locations each assigned with a different role either away horizontally or vertically.
Well I tried to simplify it. What i want to add is actually a bit more complicated than that.
Non-scenario features: First person mode Free character movement and free camera like moving and aiming in fps games. Attack key/button for manual melee attacks and ranged attacks. Block and parry as 1 key/button; block at the right time to parry. Jump, double jump, tapjump (kicking a nearby object in the way from the 2nd jump to do a third jump) as 1 key/button. Skill key/buttons for actively starting Non submission Type scenarios (edit: Non-submission type scenarios) which is more difficult to pull off than all the passive scenario variants/versions which also has a variety of difficulty.
That's the plan but I'll settle on what I can make.
If you have any idea of how to make this game fun without changing the mechanics too much tell me in the comments. It don't matter if the idea is from some other games.
Truth be told, I'm using Godot 4 and some of the really great features might be impossible to code for me or my friends. Yes they're helping me on my project.
Edit: I've read an ebook about how to make games fun and it's by making the amount of time spent exerting effort to achieve something be 300% shorter than the moment its executed or applied to achieve what its for. Idfk how to design good games but I'll still try to finish this project even if my friend's get too busy or give up. For sure I'll improve to see its bad in the process not that ik it's bad or not but I'll settle with what's been made.
Tldr: I need character arts either 2d drawing or 3d model that is free to use for my game I'd like to make. How would you make a fun game like Glory on the anime called the King's avatar?
Edit: okay u figured out the temporary game mechanics are kinda cringe but pls still link me to the free to use characters/character arts which I can make a 3d model of.
Edit: What would you think of a "3 heights counter-attack system" of getting dmg boosts: If an enemy is aiming at your head region the moment you began the animation for attacking them on their middle region you get a critical dmg thats within a short milisecond. Middle region to low region, low region to head region. And the direction they're facing is indicated by a flying arrow so you can constantly keep track of where they're aiming at instead of the head or arms because the arrow would make it easier.
Edit: maybe I'll add an easy mode where everyone can do Ye Qiu's signature move.
That's all.

2024.06.02 10:31 jimmy785 What books?

Hi, I want to be a programmer, but first I want to understand computer science so I can have a better grasp at creating my code and solving problems. The background I have in computers is troubleshooting my own and a few other computers for 20 years ~~ average gamer. My goal is to have a job in this field, but also being able to teach, explain and create. So if you could recommend one book to cover everything for this purpose, which one would it be? From my research the book "Discrete structures, logic, and computability may be the choice in mind, but I am not sure.

2024.06.02 10:31 Tall_Pin8988 HTTP API not enabled

I’m attempting to install code from pastebin and it’s telling me the HTTP API is not enabled. I’m on a server running on curse forge, with CC:tweaked.
I think I’ve located the right config file and edited the HTTP API enabled from false to true, but it’s still giving me the same error.
Any suggestions?

2024.06.02 10:27 Oiru Tala - May 2024

Tala - May 2024
Last week, I had the pleasure of trying Tala the other night after seeing some recommendations from Logical-Pie-798 in that "Las Vegas foodie tourist" thread a few months ago.
I have kept it in mind for a while and since I made a foodie friend who was visiting Auckland from her hometown in Utah (who I have now learnt has a large Samoan population). I suggested trying Tala because I have no other friends that would want to pay so much for a meal lol.
We both had the $215 The Chef’s Journey menu. I have never had Samoan food before, and my foodie friend stated she has had only some Samoan food before.
Anyway, similarly to my previous Paris Butter post, I will give a brief rating on the food purely based on the flavours I enjoyed (or not) given my palate, and the comments are purely on taste alone unless stated otherwise, but I might provide some extra commentary which plays into my overall experience.
I'm going to be honest based on my experience. If I haven't commented on something, it's because it was forgettable, and I didn't bother writing notes about it.
If you went to Pasture when it previously operated, you'll recognise the location. Tala is located in the rear part of the old Pasture that you move to for the second stage of that dinner.
  • Welcome drink: fermented dragonfruit, pineapple, and hibiscus tea. Excellent start to the meal. This was basically a mocktail. The bartender, Mangesh, definitely knows how to start off a meal.
  • Seasonal fruits served with coconut foam
  1. Cucumber with powdered plum: I'm not sure what this was about. The cucumber was slightly pickled, I think. Gonna be a no from me.
  2. Apple and sumac: Same comment as above.
  3. Pineapple steeped in vanilla syrup: Perfect sweetness and flavour combination that complimented the unsweetened coconut foam (which I wish was slightly sweetened). Simple flavours, but so beautifully well done, I asked for more. 7.5-8/10. What can I say? I like both pineapple and vanilla, and both components were quality
  • Snacks
  1. Banana chip
  2. Taro chip
  3. Raw ramen: really salty sauce on it
  • Kaleve: Prawn head stuffed with daikon and chives with prawn head gravy. The flavour of the prawn itself was quite nice from the flame/charcoal grill-like flavour, probably from the hearth. However, this made it a bit rubbery. Interestingly, the prawn is deshelled for you but not deveined. I liked the inclusion of eating/sucking the inside of the prawn head, which many Western cultures don't follow.
  • Oka: Raw salmon, yoghurt, and cucumber on a fried rice paper cracker.
  • Palusami: Deep-fried palusami ball with spinach and coconut cream. This dish was really simple, and I believe this version had no meat in it(?), yet it was still surprisingly delicious. 6.5-7/10
  • Kale I’a: Fish curry with chickpea, white sesame sauce, paprika oil, and snapper. My fish was overcooked and tough, but my friend's was apparently cooked to her liking. It's memorable and funny because we both had snapper and tarakihi (no chips) for lunch that day from Marsic Fish Shop, and I said the snapper was cooked better at the fish and chip shop, while she said it was cooked worse than at Tala.
  • Vaipala mocktail(?): fermented dragonfruit, pineapple. This was comped due to Logical-Pie-798 letting Chef Henry know I was coming that night. It's the first time ever something was comped for me, and I really appreciated it as I didn't think I'd actually be offered anything nor did I expect it! Excellent flavour profile and is honestly really up there in quality. I was a bit confused though, as Mangesh explained that it was kind of like a mix of Tala's alcoholic Fala cocktail (tequila, umu pineapple, dragonfruit, lime) and their non-alcoholic Vaipala mocktail (dragonfruit, angel berries(?) and nectarine). I'm not sure what it was exactly, but it was very similar to the welcome drink (as both featured fermented dragonfruit). Solid 7-7.5/10
  • Paua: Pomelo and paua. An interesting and unique combination. The pomelo pulp was perfect, but the creamed (?) paua was really salty. I thought the paua had taro mixed in due to the taro-like texture, but apparently not.
  • Lamb Sapasui: Although the flavour wasn't amazing to me, the quality of that lamb and how it was cooked was near perfection. Fantastic job keeping it tender and fall off the bone. If I were to just rate the grilling of the lamb, it would be an 8.5/10
  • Sticky Pork: True to the name, the pork was a solid chunk of pork (belly?). Glistening as it was scooped out of the pot. Similarly to the lamb, although the flavour wasn't for me, the execution was beautiful, and I'd rate the cooking of the pork itself a 7.5-8/10.
  • Umu Chicken and Fa’alifu Taro: I had my eye on this chicken the whole night when I saw Chef Henry place burning charcoal into the cavity. The chicken is wrapped with banana leaves and cooked over the hearth, or in this case, what Henry refers to as the umu (earth oven). God damn, we were all waiting in anticipation and praying it was cooked (including Chef Henry). Lo and behold, this thing was just done perfectly 9-9.5/10 for the cooking and the timing of it. The umu chicken ... how can I explain it? Imagine a perfectly cooked chicken, a la steamed Hainenese-style. It was like that, but smokey. I wish this came with some sort of sauce instead of the Fa’alifu Taro because that was some seriously impressive cooked chicken.
  • Desserts:
  1. Fa’apapa (black plate): Super dense but quite delicious. Kind of like a reaaaaaalllllllly dense banana bread with some caramel sauce on top. Yum! 7/10
  2. Koko Samoa: Burnt/heavily roasted drinking cocoa with dark notes reminiscent of espresso. Served by itself and/or poured over the fa’apapa. Preferred the fa’apapa without the koko samoa as it was very strong and it overwhelmed the flavours of the fa’apapa.
  3. Masi Samoa: Excellent and super soft, buttery shortbread biscuit with very little crunch (in a good way because it was buttery and melted in your mouth). Had some sort of passionfruit & lemon curd sort of topping. Fantastic 7.5/10
  4. Banana: Meringue overripe banana and chocolate cake. There was too much meringue, and the chocolate cake and syrup were too sweet; thus, it kind of overpowered the overripe banana.
  • Extras: Mangesh was showing off his experiments, which I greatly appreciated as that's my sort of thing.
  1. Watermelon skin cider. Interesting flavour as the watermelon flavour is notoriously hard to achieve.
  2. Melon liqueur: rockmelon, whiskey, coconut and Manuka tea. Sort of a weaker tasting, but more complex Midori liqueur.
The service and ambience were both quite nice. We two, an American tourist, a Samoan gentleman (Leitu?) and his wife, were all chatting with each other and with Chef Henry, bartender Mangesh, and another chef throughout the night. Chef Henry was briefly telling us about his background in American Samoa, and the rest of us could kind of relate in some way due to the American, Samoan, or American Samoa (Utah) sort of relationships (ok, except for me and a small group of 3 in the corner that kept to themselves cos they were facing a different way to the rest of us).
Great experience because we all sort of chimed in and listened to each other and felt connected that way. Throughout the meal, Leitu was saying how most of the food reminded him of his childhood, how his grandma used to make food like that, and how it was the best Samoan food (and the only one to not make him feel stuffed, lol) he ever had. He and his wife also had quite a few different cocktails/mocktails as well and seemed to enjoy them. At the end of the night, as we were about to finish and leave, Leitu wanted a photo of him, his wife, and the staff. He then said a formal thank you in Samoan to Chef Henry. Even though I didn't understand the Samoan language, I could really feel the emotions and impact of how high of praise Leitu was giving Chef Henry. What an end to the night!
Although I would personally rate the food maybe overall a 5.5-6/10 and drinks a 7/10 for my heavily Asian-influenced palate, we've established that it could be some of the best Samoan food you could experience right now if that suits you.
We did not get any drinks as they were a bit pricey for my budget, but I'll have to hit Mangesh up. Luckily, I got to at least try some of his stuff (including the comped drink) since his creations were solid.
Although $215 per person isn't cheap, given good company and the intimate interaction between the guests and staff, it was worth the experience (8.5/10) to me. In fact, I felt so moved by the hospitality that I went to the car and ran back inside Tala to give Mangesh a block of chocolate I made as a token of my appreciation back to them.
What a long post. I hope you enjoy the read as much as I remember that night!

Best Stochastic RSI settings And Strategy

What is Stochastic RSI? Understanding Stochastic RSI Dynamics

Stochastic RSI (StochRSI) operates on the principle that in a bullish market, prices close near their high, and during a bearish market, prices close near their low. It involves applying the Stochastic formula to the RSI of the asset:
StochRSI = (RSI - Lowest Low RSI) / (Highest High RSI - Lowest Low RSI)
What is Stochastic RSI
Key Parameters of StochRSI:
  • RSI: Measures the magnitude of recent price changes to evaluate overbought or oversold conditions.
  • Lowest Low RSI: The lowest value of RSI in the look-back period.
  • Highest High RSI: The highest value of RSI in the look-back period.
Interpreting StochRSI Signals:
  • Overbought Territory: StochRSI above 0.8 suggests the asset may be due for a pullback or reversal.
  • Oversold Territory: StochRSI below 0.2 indicates a potential for price increase or reversal.
Optimizing StochRSI Settings:
  • Time Period: A standard setting is a 14-period StochRSI, adjustable for sensitivity.
  • Smoothing: Applying a moving average, like a 3-day simple moving average, can help smooth out the StochRSI and filter out noise.
Combining StochRSI with Other Indicators:
  • Moving Averages: Confirm trend direction.
  • MACD: Provide additional momentum and trend confirmation.
  • Bollinger Bands: Identify price volatility and potential breakouts.
Practical Tips for Traders Using StochRSI:
  • Look for Divergences: New highs or lows not mirrored by StochRSI could indicate a weakening trend and potential reversal.
  • StochRSI Crossovers: A crossover above 0.8 or below 0.2 can signal a buying or selling opportunity.
  • Use in Different Market Conditions: Adjust approach based on whether the market is trending or range-bound.

How to Set Up Stochastic RSI in Your Trading Platform

When configuring the Stochastic RSI, note its two main components: the %K line (actual value) and the %D line (a moving average of the %K line). A common practice is to set the %D line to a 3-period moving average of the %K line.
Interpreting Stochastic RSI:
  • Overbought: Values above 0.80 suggest a potential sell signal.
  • Oversold: Values below 0.20 hint at a potential buy signal.
Key Concepts:
  • Divergence: Bearish divergence (price high, StochRSI not) signals potential downside reversal. Bullish divergence (price low, StochRSI not) indicates possible upward momentum.
  • Crosses: %K line crossing the %D line is significant for signals. Cross above %D is bullish; cross below is bearish.

Selecting the Right Time Frame

Time Frame Selection for Stochastic RSI:
Trader Type Preferred Time Frame Purpose
Day Traders 1-minute to 15-minute Capture quick, intraday movements
Swing Traders 1-hour to 4-hour Balance signal frequency with noise
Position Traders Daily Reliable momentum and trend indicators
Optimization and Backtesting:
  • Adjust settings to match the chosen time frame.
  • Backtest strategies using historical data.
  • Balance signal accuracy and trade opportunities.

Adjusting the Indicator Settings

Key Settings for Stochastic RSI:
  • Lookback Period: Default is 14, adjustable for sensitivity.
  • %K Line Smoothing: Adjust calculation period for reaction to changes.
  • %D Line Smoothing: Adjust moving average of %K for signal sensitivity.
  • Overbought/Oversold Thresholds: Default 80/20, but can be adjusted to 70/30 or 85/15.
Backtesting is crucial to validate new settings and align them with your strategy, mitigating the risk of inefficient settings.

Integrating with Charting Tools

Volume Indicators:
  • Volume indicators like OBV or VWAP validate Stochastic RSI momentum. Rising volume with bullish Stochastic RSI confirms buying interest; increasing volume with bearish RSI indicates selling pressure.
Oscillators for Momentum Confirmation:

Combine with MACD or RSI for additional confirmation. Bullish MACD crossover or RSI above 50 reinforces buy signals from Stochastic RSI.

Candlestick Patterns:
  • Candlestick patterns like engulfing, hammer, or shooting star alongside Stochastic RSI enhance trade setup reliability.

How to Use Stochastic RSI for Trade Signals

Key Points:
  • Overbought/Oversold Conditions: Adjust thresholds to fit the asset's behavior and market conditions.
  • Signal Line Crossovers: Monitor %K line crossing over %D line for buy/sell signals.
  • Divergence: Look for divergences between StochRSI and price, confirming with other indicators.
  • Risk Management: Use stop-loss orders and manage trade size to protect capital.

Identifying Overbought and Oversold Conditions

Divergence Types:
Divergence Type Price Action StochRSI Action Potential Signal
Bullish Lower Low Higher Low Upward Movement
Bearish Higher High Lower High Downward Movement
Adjust StochRSI settings for sensitivity or smoothness, incorporating trend analysis to better interpret StochRSI readings.

Recognizing Bullish and Bearish Divergences

Steps:
  1. Monitor the Trend: Observe overall trend.
  2. Locate Extremes in Price Action: Identify recent peaks/troughs.
  3. Compare with Stochastic RSI: Check for alignment or discrepancy.
  4. Identify Divergence Type: Bullish or bearish.
  5. Seek Confirmation: Additional signals or pattern breakouts.
  6. Evaluate Against Other Indicators: Confirm with other technical indicators.

Combining with Other Technical Indicators

EMA Integration:
  • Stochastic RSI crossing above/below an EMA indicates trend momentum changes.
Volume Indicators:
  • OBV confirms trend strength; increasing OBV with bullish Stochastic RSI signals a strong upward trend.
Fibonacci Levels:
  • Watch for Stochastic RSI signals around key Fibonacci levels.
Candlestick Patterns:
  • Candlestick patterns confirm potential reversals or continuations with Stochastic RSI.

Best Strategies for Implementing Stochastic RSI

Consolidation Markets:
  • Use Stochastic RSI to identify breakouts during consolidation periods.
Volatile Markets:
  • Gauge momentum shifts with rapid Stochastic RSI movements for short-term trades.
Divergence Trading:
  • Use divergence to anticipate trend reversals.
Combining with Other Indicators:
  • Moving averages, Bollinger Bands, and volume indicators enhance signal reliability.

Adapting Stochastic RSI to Trading Styles

Day Trading:
  • Use shorter time frames for fast signals and combine with level breaks or candlestick patterns.
Swing Trading:
  • Use longer time frames for smoother signals, aligning with weekly highs and lows.
Position Trading:
  • Identify long-term trends with long-term Stochastic RSI settings.
Practical Tips:
  • Backtest strategies: Understand effectiveness under different conditions.
  • Use multiple time frames: Confirm signals with broader market perspective.
  • Apply risk management: Set stop-loss orders and manage trade size.
  • Stay informed: Be aware of economic releases and news events.

2024.06.02 10:22 rmcmurrer False Restraining Order

I was involved with a person but it ended in October. This person created fake text messages and social media accounts and was harrowing and threatening me but I mostly ignored it. The person lied and said I was stalking and harassing so my job transferred me to a different location in November that is 45 minutes away. I continue getting treats via social media but I couldn't prove it so the local police refused to do anything. I filed a restraining order but denied and the other person filed one two days later and was denied. This person been calling my work with Anonymous false claims to get me fired but my work investigated and did nothing. My family and friends also been harassed. This person is trying to force me away from my city that I lived in and after a date I took a picture with the person I was out with and posted it the person was receiving negative messages and threats from fake Facebook accounts. I couldn't take it anymore and called this person manager and asked them to asked my ex to stop. They used that to get a court date for a protective order. I was told by a third party that if the protective order gets approved they are going to use that to call the police from time to time and lie about me breaking it at times they know or believe that I will not have an alibi because they know my routine and when I sleep. Any advice? Any articles or court cases where this happens before?

2024.06.02 10:08 Boss452 A case for Fast & the Furious 6 being the best of the franchise.

I think F6 is clearly in the top half of the franchise ranking. Critical and audience scores have it in the top 3. Here are 5 reasons imho why I think F6 is the best:
1) The teamwork dynamic works brilliantly here which continues from F5 basically. F6 and F5 nail the teamwork where every character gets the spotlight rather than just being about Dom or Brian. But F6 wins because it brings Hobbs into the scene as a team member and of course later on letty as well. And as opposed to F5 where the finale mainly show Dom and Brian, F6's finale brings in each team member to the picture.
2) All action scenes are awesome. Fast 5 has the safe heist but the rest are kinda low key. Furious 7 is where things start relying a lot on CGI such as the car jump sequence and F8 onwards things get tooo ridiculous. Furious 6 has a nice balance and each scene is cool. The starting London chase of Shaw's team is badass. It was cool to see the villains get the win early on. It ends with Letty shooting Dom which is dramatically a shocking moment. The Spain highway sequence with the tank is pretty amazing. And the plane runaway scene has sooo many moving parts and is very creative.
3) Owen Shaw (and his team) is one of the best villains of the franchise. Luke Evans is so good in that role. very charismatic. His code is precision and using all means to execute his mission with no room for emotion. He is the perfect foil to Dom and his gang who put family and friends into the mix. I think before that Fast and Furious franchise have always had mid villains. And while Statham is almost as good in F7, I dislike how he accomplishes so much all alone. Shaw has a team which makes things a bit more believable. Dante and Cena were cool too, but Shaw is clear.
4) It has a solid plot. Now stories are never the strong point of these movies. i think F1 had the best story (although a point break copy). F4 is decent. Fast 5 had the best story where the characters are poor and need money to start a new life. Furious 6 is a natural continuation where the characters have the good life but do not feel at home or too happy. So they are given a choice by Hobbs to redeem themselves and get pardons if they work for him. Throwing Letty into the mix (though unnatural and a bit soap opera-ish) worked well. i thought letty was unceremoniously killed off in F4. She deserved better so it was nice to see her back. And at this point this was the only case of a resurrection. After this it went overboard.
5) Best race of the series. This is the race This might be controversial as there are soo many good races to pick from. But I love it because it is shot so well. The cars are cool. The location of the race, the streets of London, is a great choice. But the best thing is the tension between the characters. Dom and Letty are one of the 4 OG characters going head to head. i really enjoy the pre race banter between them. The race then leads to a romantic meeting between the two. Which then immediately leads to Shaw and Dom facing off, another great scene here.
I think the popular consensus is either the OG movie or Fast 5 being the best of the series. I like them both and F7 too. But F6 just edges out for me. Your thoughts?

2024.06.02 10:08 coff1nx Business students, Davis or UW Seattle?

Hello, transfer student here trying to get as many opinions on this decision as possible. Submitted my SIR but want to ask the business/econ students at Davis before committing further. Choice is between UW Seattle business or UC Davis man econ. To current bus/econ students, how have the job prospects been? internships? alumni connection and overall strength of the program? percentage of students from Davis who make it to big tech/finance over in the Bay? Financials are def in favor of Davis, but I am in a position where I can attend UW Seattle. I've been told by UW Seattle students that between the two, they'd prefer UW due to its location being integrated into Seattle, as well as the school's rep among companies there. From first impressions after my visit during Aggie Day, Davis is the opposite. However, I haven't really done extensive interviews w/ current students. How are your experiences? Any and all insight is appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to respond in advance.

p.1
The Dear Leader Kim Jong Il has taught the following:
“In capitalist countries, manifold reactionary ideas & superstitions circulate, paralysing people's healthy minds like drugs & making them crazy. People are encouraged to live by the law of the jungle & social evils such as immorality & depravity, murder & robbery are commonplace, terrorising the innocent.”
This comic book illustrates some of the world's greatest social evils, such as immorality & depravity, murders & robberies that are sweeping the reactionary, sick & twisted societies of capitalist countries. Through this comic book, we will see the corruption of the rotting, sick capitalist society rushing headlong into the abyss of destruction.

2024.06.02 10:02 Cormier643 What programming languages (if any) are better suited to learning "ad hoc", as opposed to the traditional "learn systematically before you use" approach?

My experience with R so far has been more like a super-powerful microsoft office than a full-fledged programming language. Last time when I needed to integrate and analyse some data for my colleague I didn't know how, but googled it a bit (about the packages needed and the syntax) and used R to do it. Another time when I needed to generate some quick bar graphs, heatmaps and ROC curves I also did a quick search on the arguments of ggplot2 and generated them in a few hours with barely any prior knowledge. I didn't need to in any way systematically "learn" R in order to use it. I just needed to know how I put arguments in a function in a package and let the computer do the job, no need to think about "coding" from a programmer's perspective, my code could be ugly and messy as hell, no problem, as long as it gets the job done and then it can just go.
Definitely not with C. I had to attend a full term of C course to do even something remotely useful of it. And then I discontinued learning it because I'm not a programmer, I just need to deal with data and plot fancy graphs which is R territory.
It's in the middle with Python. I had to systematically learn a bit before I could learn and use packages ad hoc. It leans more systematic learning before using, if anything, because I needed to at least know "something" about the syntax, loops, etc before going "r mode".
Any other languages like R where you can "learn bit by bit whenever you use"?

2024.06.02 09:55 mattdawg8 “Upgrade” question

I work mostly as a DUT/Loader at this point. I sometimes upgrade to DIT when a splinter or second unit pops up.
I recently worked a day where they decided we needed a splinter. The location was geographically inconvenient, involving a 45 minute drive to the other side of a river and back.
Our contract states that it requires “if an employee works for 2 hours or more in a classification higher than the classification under which the Employee is called for work, such upgraded Employee shall be paid at the same rate for the higher classification… for the entire workday.”
We were shooting our normal day, then told this shoot was happening. I stopped doing my usual tasks, helped assemble and load all of the appropriate equipment to be able to expose and distribute the image as requested, loaded into a vehicle, shot the stuff, drove back, then went to lunch.
The total time spent was just about 3.5 hours. I added a DIT upgrade to my timesheet but was told it “wasn’t approved” because I “wasn’t working as a DIT for 2 or more hours” because “travel time does not count as working time”.
How do I argue against this? I feel that any time that I took away from my usual job to facilitate this should be treated as upgraded time. It’s difficult to quantify “working time” in this context.

I am following Data Engineering Zoomcamp course and in module 2 for workflow orchestration with mage.ai (ETL: GCS to BigQuery), I am trying to load data from google cloud storage to BigQuery but I get an error NotFound: 404 Not found: Dataset mageai-425002:ny_taxi was not found in location US
To recreate the data pipeline follow module 2 of the course for setup. Also Below are three scripts in mage.ai with Data Loader, Transformer and SQL Data Exporter to export data from google cloud storage to BigQuery.
Data Loader Script
from mage_ai.settings.repo import get_repo_path from mage_ai.io.config import ConfigFileLoader from mage_ai.io.google_cloud_storage import GoogleCloudStorage from os import path if 'data_loader' not in globals(): from mage_ai.data_preparation.decorators import data_loader if 'test' not in globals(): from mage_ai.data_preparation.decorators import test @data_loader def load_from_google_cloud_storage(*args, **kwargs): """ Template for loading data from a Google Cloud Storage bucket. Specify your configuration settings in 'io_config.yaml'. Docs: https://docs.mage.ai/design/data-loading#googlecloudstorage """ config_path = path.join(get_repo_path(), 'io_config.yaml') config_profile = 'default' bucket_name = 'mage-zoomcamp-1' object_key = 'nyc_taxi_data.parquet' return GoogleCloudStorage.with_config(ConfigFileLoader(config_path, config_profile)).load( bucket_name, object_key, )
Transformer Script
if 'transformer' not in globals(): from mage_ai.data_preparation.decorators import transformer if 'test' not in globals(): from mage_ai.data_preparation.decorators import test @transformer def transform(data, *args, **kwargs): data.columns = (data.columns .str.replace(' ', '_') .str.lower()) return data
SQL Data Exporter
connection: Bigquery profile: default schema: nyc_taxi Table: yellow_cab_data
when I execute the pipeline, I get the following error:
NotFound: 404 Not found: Dataset mageai-425002:nyc_taxi was not found in location US
Job ID: ed9021db-914d-465c-9aeb-805394813bec

2024.06.02 09:36 Don1AskWho DBT/CBT therapy around Eindhoven area.

Hi. I'm not really sure if this is the right sub to ask about this but I don't have any better ideas. I have a diagnosed personality disorder (borderline) which has recently wrecked havoc in my life.
Over a year ago I admitted myself to an inpatient clinic in my home country which has helped tremendously. Unfortunately the nature of my job (Welder) where I have to travel to various locations makes attending therapy quite difficult. Also the working hours are quite long at up to 54 a week.
Anyway, next week I will be starting a project around Antwerp which is not too far from Eindhoven where I have a sister who just started a family. That's also where I would like to settle eventually if a stable job opportunity comes up.
My question to you is; is there anybody here in a similar situation? Are there any therapy centers in Eindhoven I could attend on the weekends? I found group therapy to be really helpful.
I'm just not sure what to do. I have to keep the job but I can't just leave my mental health as is.
Thanks in advance.

2024.06.02 09:24 Mammoth_Process_9820 And finally my last frustration out of the way, for now

My last job, you all kept making fun of me for not being moved to consultant like everyone else.
I signed a contract when I left, so I can’t say much. All I can say is, I was tutoring the consultants, I fixed a majority of the bugs left by another programmer because no one else at the company understood the code (2 of them had the capability). I even taught the Director of Tech a few things. I had no problems with him.
There is a lot more to why I was frustrated and not promoted, but due to contractual issues, I cannot say what happened. Let’s just say if given the opportunity, I could have been at the level of Director of Tech, but I also did not want that responsibility. Maybe in the future.
I do thank the Director of Tech and one of the owners for teaching me and steering me in the direction for everything I know.
