I’ve noticed that immigrants from Asia (China, Vietnam, India, Philippines) as well as some immigrants from the Middle East and Africa seem to be skilled workers. Some are engineers, nurses or doctors. They move here to the USA, get high paying jobs, nice cars and live in nice neighborhoods.
With Latin American immigrants it seems to be a bit different.
In my city many set up food stands, sell food out of the trunk of their car, sell roses and try to sell you fruit in parking lots.
I went to a store yesterday and there were Colombians (with their flag) selling tamales and other stuff out of their cars.
I have never seen a non-Latino immigrant selling food or goods like this.
What’s the story?

I am planning to get two 40 litre tanks as soon as I can. 20l tanks are very cheap here and readily available, price jumps drastically as you get even slightly bigger - but improvements are coming within the next month or so. submitted by Noperopenoodlepope to aquarium [link] [comments] PROBLEM 1st tank has 1 baby bristlenose, 1 female betta, 3 bumblebee gobies (no idea what specific ones, they don’t know at the store), couple of mystery/apple snails (halfway grown). It has been less than 24 hours and that tank is somehow full of poop. 2nd one has more mystery snails (4 halfway grown and a bunch of babies* 🙈), male betta, 5 or 6 baby kuhlis, couple of baby corydoras (now been told there need to be at least 3 more), and 3 little bristlenoses*. Apparently I ended up with a lot of ramshorn snails somehow as well. I think I also just found a bladder snail! These tanks are a pain to clean, I can’t remove all the poop fast enough without the vacuum removing 70-80% of the water each time, which is why now that I’ve been informed I need more of certain species etc bigger tanks would just be a bonus for me and the fish. Don’t understand how the tank with way more animals in it is so much cleaner? Both are using the same heaters, and both have identical filters from Kmart. Plan is to upgrade everything, but obviously with a baby on the way and a collection of spoiled princess reptiles, the fish have taken a while to reach top of to do list. (Not related to fish but just dropped $360 on lighting for two enclosures that were needing upgrades!). What is making all this mess?? 1*: baby apple/mystery snails (and however many survive from the many laid eggs!) will be given to my local store to sell/give away - they’ve helped me out a lot so no interest selling them. 2*: Idea (from LFS) was that I take the bristlenoses to help clean the tank, and when they reach 3-4cm I return them for baby ones again. Just hoping to find out if it is poop/something else before I go and make changes! |

(Note: I posted this on Android but I wasn't sure if I did something incorrect because it was removed by the bot immediately, and I don't know how to get it approved. So... if you see it there too, then it must have gotten approved at some point and that's why. Just trying to find a home for this discussion and I promise I'm not trying to spam!)
After a decade with iPhone, curiosity finally got the better of me and I made the switch to Android. My trusty iPhone 13 Mini is still there just in case, but I really do hope to sell it soon. I wanted to document my journey over the last 72 hours with Android in case it helps someone else sitting on the margin just looking to dive in.
These 10 things are simply my opinions and reflections! I'm sure my feelings will continue to evolve, but here's where I'm at after 3 days. As I started typing, I did not expect this to be so long, but I had so many things floating through my head. Sorry for the long read and I'd love to hear others who have made similar changes.
1. Sloppy first impressions: I started with a Pixel 8. Got it for $390, in like new condition during eBay's memorial day sale, and just couldn't pass up that deal. The look of the phone never really attracted me before, but after a few hours it really grew on me. However, I really started to get annoyed at the experience and polish. For example, I had a lot of screens where the text was cut off or folders where the text was cut off. There were system pop-ups where I was expected to approve something that disappeared within a second before I could even read it - was it approved or was it declined?! But what really was upsetting was that there's no way to sort notifications by time. The phone would beep and then I'd have to spend a few seconds trying to figure out what the heck the notification was amidst the long list. Half the time, the time stamp doesn't even show and I'm left wondering if I missed something. This was exacerbated when I started not receiving notifications I would expect, because my iPhone (which was still on WiFi only mode) was getting notifications for new Gmail messages for example, and the Pixel just stayed quiet. That was unacceptable and I decided to return the phone.
However, my significant other has a Samsung, and she mentioned never having these issues so I stuck it out and tried again. This time, I figured - go big or go home - and I got the Samsung S24 Ultra.
2. Much better second try: I read a lot of bad experiences about the UI of Samsung coming into this, but frankly it's a lot more polished than the Pixel. It's like there's a nice coat of paint over all the underlying workings and as an iPhone user, I appreciate that. Everything looks great and while I've been toying with some of the themes in the Galaxy store, I have gone back to the normal One UI each time.
3. Smart Switch works great. It took about an hour to transfer all my settings and applications over to the Samsung. The only thing that took a little bit of figuring out was how to get 25K+ iCloud backed up photos onto this phone. Fortunately, there's an official Apple method for transferring iCloud files to Google Photos, and I initiated that. It's still not done but assuming this goes to plan, the transfer process wasn't that bad at all. I pretty much plopped my iPhone sim card into the Android, spent an hour waiting, and then all my old applications, wallpapers, and even placement of icons was there. Then, I just spent about half an hour signing into everything that I needed to (1Password is hugely helpful!) and I'm off to the races.
4. Settings galore: I am not used to this many settings! It seems I am approving or declining permissions all day long. I have multiple Gmail accounts setup, and I have to go in and adjust each account's notification setting when I just want all of my Gmail messages to have the same setting. I thought I would like this level of customization but it's been a little frustrating finding everything, or trying to figure out what I'm even approving. I find myself on YouTube looking for videos for how to change things such as the lock screen shortcuts. I am hoping that once I get through this initial difficulty, then I'll be cruising. And the biggest thing - Samsung lets me sort notifications in chronological order! That's huge (for me).
5. Navigation bars on top. Why?: I had a small iPhone Mini so one-handed navigation was never a real challenge but I still appreciated how all the menu bars (Facebook, Safari, etc.) were on the bottom of the phone. It made navigation really easy. With all the customization I mentioned in #3, I just assumed this would be an easy fix on Android and I'd be able to change this for any app. I was wrong! Other than Firefox, I have not figured out how to do this in Chrome or Facebook (as an example). I really do not understand why the iPhone version of Facebook would have this on the bottom but the Android version would have it on the top! For a phone as big as the S24U, that would've been a really nice option.
6. PhoneLink is pretty good: I had gotten rid of my Macbook a long time ago. I basically live on my Phone and also have an iPad for when I need a bigger screen and a Windows desktop for professional work. Integration b/w devices was never a big deal to me but I put I setup Phone Link and it's been pretty good. I don't have any real complaints so far - I can transfer files and get all my notifications and respond directly from my computer.
7. Dex is really cool but also buggy: The dream of having only to carry around my phone and never having to open up a laptop, tablet or desktop would be amazing. This phone is definitely powerful enough for the applications I use for work - Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. But Dex has some weird quirks that make it a little unreliable. For example, every time I open up an image in Gallery on Dex, the screen goes black for a few seconds before coming back on. Close the picture? Same thing! The cursor scroll just isn't as smooth as on my Desktop machine where I can customize the DPI settings exactly on the Logitech app. These are small things but build up into a less than perfect experience. But when it works, it works great and it's so close to a dream realized.
8. Face unlock is pretty bad, and the fingerprint reader can be hit or miss: FaceID on iPhone was a pleasure to use, except when it's not - i.e., I'm lying in bed. But for most situations, it works pretty good. For those moments I do wish I had a fingerprint reader so it's really nice to have that on the Samsung. But with that said, the Face unlock is horrendously bad. It works about 3/4 of the time in good light and then never in low light. I think the fingerprint reader is 80% successful on the first try for me but that's still lower than I think it should be. Perhaps I should re-register my finger. (Also, what's up with the super bright fingerprint reader on the Pixel 8? I feel like I was staring at the sun every time went to activate it! That said, it does feel like the Pixel's face unlock is better than Samsung). And on the topic of security, I think one of the biggest things I miss is Apple Pay. Some of my favorite go-to restaurants locally let me order online and pay directly using Apple Pay. Now I have to memorize my credit card number....
9. This thing is super powerful. I think people who choose Android chose it for two primary reasons: customization (which I mention in #2 and #3) and power to be productive. It has been very cool to be able to export files from one app directly into another app, edit it there, and save it as a file and then transfer it to my desktop. On iPhone, it was never a certainty which applications I'd be able to import files directly into but on Samsung it seems everything is available. There's always a workaround or solution or a method to doing something and that's been pretty cool. The Snapdragon processor is quick and the screen is beautiful. It's a great media consumption device and I hope it continues to be as snappy as it is now, because 7 years of updates is a very long time!
10. But the size of this phone is kinda insane. Especially coming from an iPhone mini, this thing is so big! It literally does even fit in my pockets when I am sitting and I've had it slide out a couple times onto the floor already because so much physically hangs out of my pants when seated. If Samsung made a smaller Ultra version of the phone in the same size as the S24, then that would be perfect (kinda like how Apple has the Pro and Pro Max). I think if there's a reason I end up going back to iPhone, it's because of the size of this thing. I want something as powerful as the Ultra but in a smaller package, and I haven't found another company that makes something like that. I don't have a case yet and maybe a more textured case will resolve this.
I'll keep this experiment going as I want to make a real effort to switch. Looking forward to continued learning!

This is primarily a rant/getting it off my chest, but... In less than 2 months I need to move out of my current apartment, because my apartment is tied to my job contract and that is when my job is ending. I had to move apartments once about 2 years ago (not by choice) and it was extremely stressful for me despite having people who helped me, and a new apartment pre-chosen for me. Now, I have first have to find a new apartment, which is my first time selecting an apartment completely on my own. This could be fun, but I'm stressed out about prices and locations because I am probably going back to school (not finalized yet) so I will be living off my savings. This means I'm weighing living in a more comfortable apartment vs. saving more money. But the big problem is my belongings. I'm a bit of a hoarder, which is due to a combination of a parent who grew up poor, being crafty and wanting to reuse things/have supplies, and having ADHD and depression. Yeah, classic. My current apartment is very small and my next apartment will probably be even smaller (maybe 25 meters squared maximum). Despite this, I have a ton of stuff, and a really hard time disposing of things. It's that well-known feeling of "but what if I need this again someday or regret throwing it away..." Because I will soon have no income, I also have a lot of guilt about wasting money, and I feel like I should try to sell things. Thanks to my poor mental health and bad habits, my place is a disaster and over the past week I've found two dead cockroaches which makes me feel ill. This makes me even more apprehensive to try cleaning anything. Unfortunately I can only take out trash twice a week and I have to sort my trash so it's a bit complex and overwhelming. I don't have a car and donating to thrift stores is noy easy where I live because they are picky about what they accept. I'm completely overwhelmed by decision paralysis about what apartment I should choose, what tasks I need to do first, what I should throw away vs keep, not to mention all the other things I need to do. I'm making myself miserable from stress and I know that every moment I wait I'm making things even worse for myself. I've struggled a lot with suicidal ideation in the past, and while it's not that bad right now it's coming back a lot due to my stress about apartment stuff mixed with my lack of long-term goals/stress about the future.

Well, you've read the LNs, why not read Turn Around and Face Me, the sequel series, set years after the original? May and Aleah Francois are now teenagers, going to an All-Girls Academy. This series is more lighthearted, and won't have any earth-shattering consequences to it. It's just two dumb teenagers in love with people who aren't interested in them. TAFM is still ongoing, and we should be getting chapter 3 fairly soon.Same story from the LNs, with a lot more detail. Aono Shimo's art takes what is already a great light novel series, and brings it to life in greater detail. There is a lot added on here, helping to make this a wonderful experience.  | Long story short, went to a used book store that also sells retro games/consoles based off a recommendation from a friend, they had Pokemon colosseum with box and manuel for $150. I've always wanted to play it so I bought it and took it home. I'm new to collecting games so I'm not the best at determining the authenticity of games. When I compare it to other games I bought (Windwaker and Mario Sunshine) everything looks pretty similar except for 3 things. The logo of the gamecube for colosseum is SLIGHTLY different than the others, the shading gradient on the right side of the cube looks like it has a slight pink-peralish colo the purple aura around Suicune looks lighter than other copies online advertising as authentic. And on the back the space between the edge of the art and the text on the lower back left is noticbly smaller than on windwaker and sunshine. Which I've been told is a sign for a fake, but other copies look to have the same smaller gap online so idk if maybe thats just how colosseum was made. The paper feels like the right thicness, it defuses the light just like the others, the text reads clear. Honestly with my lack of experience, and small pool of games I just can't tell for sure. I finally decided to give the game a go after hearing that it's better now. I'm a big Fallout fan and have beaten all of the modern Fallouts. Honestly, I'm pretty impressed with this game! It is very, very fun and has sucked me in just as much as the other Fallout games. But man, I feel like theres just a few adjustments that could be made to elevate this game to being one of the best Fallout games ever. Keep in mind this is just some problems I personally have with the game as a new player. I'm not trying to completely shit on the game or call it bad or anything, I really do enjoy the game a lot. - Inventory/stash management. I think this might be one of the most common complaints about the game. I cant help but feel the inventory management is made tedious purely but to get you to purchase Fallout 1st. The game incentivises you to collect pretty much everything you see from my view. But doing so will have you fast traveling back and forth to your camp/vendors A LOT. This is my biggest gripe about the game, I want to just stay on my quest objective without having to go back to camp 3 or 4 times just due to collecting and scrapping weapons, armor and junk.
- I wish the food and water were more rare. Let's be real, food and water are absolutely everywhere. The survival mechanics might as well not exist with the abundance of food and water. I do enjoy that there are survival mechanics, but all of the stakes are taken out once I realized that theres really no need to stress over them. Simply run through a forest and you'll have dozens of flowers, go through a town and you'll find plenty of water, and combine them in the cook station for better meals. It's a fun mechanic with all the bonuses you get from different meals, but I do wish the food and water wasn't just absolutely everywhere. This also ties into the inventory management problem, as you constantly have a surplus of food and water taking up your inventory space, which means more trips back to base/vendors to store/sell.
- I personally wish there were more social interactions. I understand this is a very subjective point. I actually prefer questing solo myself, but I enjoy the concept of events. The problem is (at least at my humble level of 12), I have gone to probably 10 events, only one of them had another player there also doing the event. I wish the events were incentivized more, though as I get higher in level perhaps this entire point will be moot. It's just as a new player, there seems to be basically no reason that the game is multiplayer, other than showing off camps and helping out new players with free stuff.
- I recently played V rising, and absolutely loved the server customization you could do. You can modify the enemies damage and health to be whatever you want, you can make it so you have virtually unlimited resources for crafting, you can pretty much create the world to play exactly to your liking. I feel like these options would enhance the Fallout 76 experience immensely, as I could adjust the survival mechanics and inventory management to my liking.
- It's beating a dead horse at this point, but obviously the monetization sucks ass. I feel it limits the design of the game to make money. In fact, I feel like a lot of my issues with the game wouldn't exist if Fallout 1st didn't exist.

After being "used" (me doing some basic troubleshooting) for 2 hours, Blizzard deemed the purchase non-refundable because it had been used too much even though I hadn't actually played. I'm not the only one that had to deal with this issue as the game had a bunch of known bugs that made the game difficult to run properly.
So in that case it's not entirely my fault because the developers had sold me broken/incomplete software right? How can Blizzard get away with this kind of behavior? I would really appreciate someone's knowledge about this.
For example, when another game called Cyberpunk 2077 was released for the Playstation 4, it was so buggy that Sony decided to give everyone who had purchased the game a full refund and removed the game from the online store so that no one else could purchase it again.

Hello. I was an Intellivision kid, our first console was an Intellivision II with the Atari System Changer. Now that the dust is settling on Atari buying Intellivision, lets speculate on what new Intellivision products could come.
Since Atari also owns Digital Eclipse, if they made an Intellivision compilation for modern consoles with the same care and attention to detail they did with Atari 50, I'd preorder it in a heartbeat.
A new microconsole like the Atari 2600+ could be technically possible, but it might be a bit too niche. But if there's a market, I'd like to see two models. Intellivision+ and Intellivision II+, but each with different installed games (no cartridge with dip switches here) and the capability to run original Intellivision carts. As for the controller inserts, an extra pause button could be added to the controller which would also display the insert on the side of the screen. Alternatively, there could be a separate, premium controller with a touchscreen that displays the insert for the currently loaded game. To deter hackers and modders (at launch) both systems can have all the inserts for all the official releases coded in and the system can detect which cart is plugged in and display on the controller the right insert.
Regardless, I'm going to PAX West in Seattle this year and Atari was there last year and showing off the 2600+. If they're selling some cool Intellivision merch like a hat, I'll pick one up.

I get that sex sells, and so do the adrenaline-pumping experiences of horror and racing games. But, I’m just curious, am I the only one confused about the plethora of low-quality titles obscuring classic gems?
I don’t want to sound like an old guy shouting “Get off my VR lawn!” and “Back in the DK2 days…” But I’m curious if anyone knows someplace to find experiences like these, since the Steam VR store just isn’t cutting it for me.

Hello, I (17M) want to start two businesses. I am from Nepal. And I don't know how to get Nepali or International audience.
About the first business: My dad has a textile business and he has all sorts of textile clothes too, he asked me to make his store online. I don't really know how to do that. Like he sells the customers desired quantity of the cloth, he sells kurthas and teachers dresses, army dresses, police and student uniforms, bedding and mattresses and blankets, tents and curtains and water proof clothes. I have no idea on how to convert this business into an online business. He didn't ask me to take his entire business online but he wanted to have clients over the internet too. and he has a wholesale business of mosquito nets and pillows too. He wanted me to take those online too. Can you guys provide me any help on that? Please?
About the second business: My mom came to me with a business idea about selling spices and sauces. She will cover almost all my expenses, packaging and spice production.
P.s. I am a college students if it matters. Should I go with both of these businesses? I don't have much budget like 200 dollars maximum budget for both businesses. Should I mainly use Social media marketing? I am so lost right now. I will appreciate any help. Thank you!
