2024.06.02 06:27 GoBillsBleepthePats Are you able to recombine items that have been split n-ways?

We had a bit of fuckery happen at the restaurant tonight. Essentially a server split an entree like 4 ways but they weren’t supposed to do that. We tried to recombine the 4 items back into one but weren’t able to figure it out.
Is there a way to fix the error?

2024.06.02 06:22 RokSeouljah420 About to quit because I can't stand my lazy and passive aggressive sous chef

A little context. Early 40s, got back into the industry after a five year break. Before I took my hiatus, I was kitchen manager for a large catering company and held a few executive sous chef positions at different local restaurants in the greater DC/Metro area. Had jumped back into management upon my return, but after wasting 9 months I realized at this point in my life I much prefer to just clock in and generally be responsible for me, myself, and I.
Don't get me wrong, I'm always down to help other people with prep, and cleaning, and all that good shit. What I mean is having to worry about getting shifts covered when people call out, showing up an early hour, when already scheduled for a double, to let the guys in to empty the grease trap, etc.
Anyway, fast-forward a couple months and I get a new gig as a line cook at a decent local spot. Really liking it, great team both BOH and FOH. Chef is cool. Owner is cool. One of those rare places where people are there because they want to be, not because they have no other choice. The only issue is the sous chef that the exec brought in is such a piece of shit and it's driving me crazy.
Main thing is he hates cleaning. Tuesday's he works grill. His station is fine, but at end of night when we close together, dude will just wrap up some things on the line and then disappear, or worse, stand there and talk to servers while I scrub the entire line.
Thursday he's supposed to work the line, but Chef is off, so he expos. So not only are we down a cook on the line, but then he just stands there, leaning with his arms crossed on the pass. Until it's time to close, then he goes into the office and hangs out with the FOH manager while me and the other cook scrub the entire line.
Saturdays he works expo from the line while Chef expos from the pass, but when we close, he refuses to clean his station, which really just consists of a small flattop. He'll immediately jump to wrapping stuff on the line. So after I scrub down the 8 burner range and the steam table from my saute station, I have to brick and scrub his flattop.
And as annoying as that shit is, he's now started with passive aggressive comments while I'm doing his job.
Me (30 minutes before we close) - Cool if I clean the flattop?
Sous (while walking away) - We'll surely need it, but go ahead.
Another example.
Sous - What do we need for the prep list?
Me (jokingly) - Man, I don't know, I'm just a line cook!
Sous - Yeah, you and (another cook) don't know shit about the prep list.
I brought the issue up to Chef a month ago, but nothing's changed. Chef hand-picked this guy from another location to be the sous, so I'm not too hopeful.
I've made it clear to Chef, and he is fine with the fact, that I'm not looking for more responsibility, but I'm dependable, will 100% bust my ass while I'm at work, and I take pride in my shit. But I'm at about my limit with this lazy ass sous.
Oh, and the absolute fucking cherry on top?
Dude started there a month after I did, but took over my employee locker and yardsaled all my shit. Took my personal knife and put it with the shitty house knives. Ditched my Sharpies and pens, and put my recipe book in some random bin. Took me a day and a half to find all my shit. I was the bigger man and didn't even confront him about it, but believe I will be airing out all my grievances to his stupid face if I end up quitting lol.
Thanks for letting me rant. Only 8 and a half hours til I have to be back in that bitch to work egg station for brunch. 🫡

Am I the only one who didn't like her on either one of her seasons?
She was totally rude and snobbish to Giselle for no reason. Also didn't care for her when she was on Kevin's Restaurant Wars team. I've also heard bad things from people who've gone to her restaurant.
In her case, she lives up to her name.

2024.06.02 06:17 LibrarianNeat7032 AITAH for not allowing my sister's bf to come over?

AITA for not letting my sister's boyfriend come over?
My (23F) sister (27F) is upset that I don't want her convicted murderer bf over. A little back story is: my sister, husband (23M), and I all live together to save money. The economy in our area is not great, so my bf and I were struggling to make ends meet on our own. We all live in a rental and split bills together. Everything was going really good until my bf ended up getting laid off last year. Everything was really rocky for a while, but my sister started going to the food bank so we could eat. This is where she met her current bf (45M).
They hit it off, and she hadn't been in a relationship in a while, so I was pretty excited but also a little guarded due to the age gap. Something that's worthy to mention is that this man is a convicted murderer. He did 23 years in jail after murdering someone with his best friend over some stolen cash. I was a little hesitant at first but eventually decided to meet him.
He seemed fine at first, treated my sister well, and I didn't have a problem with him until the beginning of this year. He currently lives with his parents and other roommates (which is common in our area due to astronomical rent increases) and lives on disability due to a workplace injury. He started coming over every weekend. He doesn't drive due to getting out of prison in the last year and not having funds for a car. I've had to pick him up a few times from the next town over about 30 minutes away due to my sister's busy schedule.
In February, I informed him I would like a weekend with him not coming over, and he was not allowed to come over that weekend. He became upset and started blowing up my phone. I ignored it as I was out drinking with friends and didn't want to make the situation worse or say something I would regret.
I ended up with 6 missed calls, 2 voicemails, and 14 texts. Once I realized he wasn't going to stop, I lost it. I informed him it was not his house, it is a rule in our house if one of us (my husband, my sister and myself) does not want a guest over then we have the right to say no, and that he was no longer welcome at our home. I informed him I would not be driving him places or helping him in anyway until he learned that he is not entitled to my living space, my time, or my concern. I let him know that those are privileges and he will no longer be welcome.
Things have been rocky since then. My sister will ask every weekend if he can come over. He has since apologized, and I have gone to a few lunches with my sister and him to keep the peace. Since that fall out happened, though, he has said a few things that do not make me feel comfortable with him in our home.
I knew he had murdered someone and was trying to have an open mind, as 23 years can change someone. But the reason he wants to come over every week is because he gets into fights with one of his roommates a lot and states that if he stays, he will end up going back to prison.
There was one time after a lunch we had together that my sister forgot something in the restaurant and this man proceeded to tell me a story of how his sentence got lengthened because he beat a man almost to death while in prison for talking bad about his sister. He explained many gory details, including how he was covered in blood, etc. He stopped once my sister returned, and he acted as though nothing had happened.
I'm going to be honest. It scared me quite a bit. I don't know if I read too much into the story or if I just want to hold everything against him, but it felt almost intentional??
Since the fall out in February, he spent one night over about 2 weeks ago, according to my sister he either was going to be sleeping in the streets or could come here, my husband and I were tired and feeling guilty so we allowed him to stay one night. During that night, we all ran to Walmart for some snacks, and my husband stayed home to feed our pets.
My sisters bf showed me a new pocket knife he had bought and informed me he was thinking about using it on his roommate or himself if he either didn't go sleep in the streets or didn't come to our home. I was obviously a bit freaked out, and again, my sister wasn't around to hear this.
Tonight, my sister came to me and asked if he could come over. I haven't told her of the private conversations him and I have had, as I don't think her opinion on him will change, but she knows I don't want him over very much still. When I said no she stated that it's unfair since she pays 1/3 of our living expenses but can't have company, and if he wasn't allowed here then she was going to go with him to a hotel. She said my bf and I were being unfair, not allowing him over.
So, reddit, AITA?
TL;DR My sister's convicted murderer bf lives with roommates he doesn't like and wants to come over at least once a week. He has said very violent things privately to me about his thoughts and feelings towards his roommate and himself, as well as almost unaliving someone while in prison. My sister wants him over and says it's unfair she pays bills but isn't allowed company over. I said no because I don't like him and don't feel safe with him (neither does my husband), AITAH?

2024.06.02 06:15 melonator1998 I think an app issue might have gotten me a contract violation tonight

Full disclosure, I dash exclusively in EBT and I got this order from a restaurant that was almost 20 minutes away from the customer. I trusted that the customer's address was the correct one and I trusted the in-app navigation to take me to said address. Mind you, I was taking the order from a familiar area to an area with which I'm not at all familiar, it was dark, and as a woman I value my safety when the customer's tone takes a shift towards the unsafe. Either this is customer fraud or an app issue, but it was allegedly the wrong address and the customer was immediately snippy with me in the chat. I told her I wasn't risking deactivation by coming back and supposedly moving it to the correct address (her threatening tone already made me not want to come back ). At any rate, she definitely could've walked down and got it herself because the address was one of a series of identical townhouses stacked next to each other. But nope, now I've got a CV and it's under dispute. [Sigh]

2024.06.02 06:15 imphlegmatic From Romance to Comedy

I was watching this girl who always walks the same way every day. Today, she was sitting at the bus stop, looking beautiful in her kurthi as always. I couldn't help but stare, admiring her beauty while she was busy on her phone. It was like a scene from a romantic movie. And then...it happened.
Out of nowhere, she took her shawl, spit on it, and cleaned her phone screen. It was like watching a princess suddenly turn into a frog. Just like that, the magic was gone. My romantic movie turned into a comedy show in seconds.
From that moment, I couldn't look at her the same way. It was like finding out your favorite singer lip-syncs during concerts. Or discovering that the fancy restaurant you've been dying to try uses microwave dinners.
Girls, take note: you never know who might be watching. One minute you're a goddess in a kurthi, the next you're the girl who spit-cleans her phone in public. It's a quick way to go from heartthrob to head-scratcher.
Remember, it's not just about looking beautiful—it's about keeping the magic alive. Or at least saving the spit-cleaning for when no one’s around. Because trust me, the only thing worse than a smudged phone screen is having your secret admirer see you clean it like you're polishing a car window with an old rag.

2024.06.02 06:14 dh1221hd If you are looking for a shuttle or a ride, just call Oscar! (A trip summary)

Before I set out to Belize, (Which was a simi-spontaneous trip) I wasn't sure what or where I wanted to do or go. My planning was all done within maybe a weeks time. I ended up deciding to go to San Ignacio as I got a week at "The Cabins At Monkey Falls" Airbnb. Once I made my reservations, I needed to figure out how to actually get to San Ignacio. I was looking for a shuttle for just me and after looking around for a while and a lot of googling later and reading reviews of a few places, I couldn't make up my mind on who to choose. I ended up seeing this subreddit and looked around and found a post recommending Oscar for my ride from the airport. I searched some more and saw several people mention that they had all positive things to say about him. So I reached out Via WhatsApp and he promptly got back to me and he was available to pick me up at the airport.
The day I flew in, I let him know my flight details and once I landed and a quick 10 minute customs check later I met up with Oscar outside and we were on our way to San Ignacio. Oscar made some recommendations for a few stops along the way. The first of which was the zoo to grab some lunch. They have some very good food there plus there are some interesting critters roaming around too! Very cool. After that we stopped at The Art Box to get some much needed coffee after my redeye flight. I would definitely recommend those stops if time permits for anyone who is heading to San Ignacio.
Upon arriving in San Ignacio, he gave me a couple of places to check out while I was in town (He's a local there and knows all the best spots). He asked me some of the things I wanted to do while there and I mentioned I was thinking of going to Tikal in Guatemala, but I was unsure of which tour place I wanted to use. That is when he said that he could take us (my sister joined in on my trip a few days later) up there and we would have more time to explore or whatever since we weren't bound to a tour company's timeline. He just so happened to have the day we wanted to go available on his schedule so we booked it.
On the day of our trip to Tikal, Oscar picked us up good and early to make our way to Guatemala. One quick boarder crossing later, we kept driving until we made a stop at a nice restaurant on the way to get some breakfast. Since we weren't on a deadline we enjoyed our meal without being hurried with a whole group of people. Once we made it to Tikal, we opted to hire a guide there (Guides are completely optional) which ended up being a good choice since he has good knowledge of the different buildings and most importantly, knew his way around so we never got lost or turned around there. About 5 or so hours later in the intense jungle heat later, we were back at the visitor center and seemingly out of nowhere THERE HE WAS! Oscar seemed to have a 6th sense on where his passengers are! No waiting around or anything. It was a good feeling to be able to sit down in the AC of his van. Now we headed back to town to get some dinner which turned out to be rather exciting.
We stopped at the restaurant El Muelle which was a nice place right on lake Peten Itza. When we showed up, there a bit of commotion by the docks and when we went down to check it out there was several guys there around a crocodile that was all roped up! They heaved it up into the bed of their truck and hauled it off. It wasn't until a bit later we heard that it had attacked a guy a few days prior and they finally caught it. We then sat down and ordered drinks and food all of which were very delicious. Afterwards we went down to the lake and we all jumped in to cool off in the refreshing lake water. It was like jumping into a nice warm tub, unlike every ice cold lake up here in the northwest. I wish all lakes were that nice here. They had some hammocks that are in the water just a bit too which were very nice and relaxing. The water was crystal clear so you can see anything that might be lurking below too. After enjoying our time on the lake and watching the sunset there, we made our way back to San Ignacio.
The next morning, Oscar picked us up and we made our way to the water taxi port. We stopped to get breakfast along the way at a place called Cheers, which may or may not be named after the TV show. We couldn't figure that one out. Breakfast was very good there and worth a stop. Once we got close to the water taxi port we stopped at a store to grab some snacks and whatnot and we parted ways at the water taxi port.
Oscar definitely made my trip possible without worrying about filling out online forms and having to deal with online payments. I like to do as many transactions in cash then traveling as possible. Oscar made it incredibly easy to plan my travel where I needed to go and he keeps his van VERY clean and he takes pride in what he does. I didn't have a boring ride at all, Oscar is a very engaging guy, we has some good conversations getting to know each other and him telling me all about to Belize. Overall I was very happy with my choice of choosing Oscar over any of the other choices I had came across.
When I go back, I'm going to let Oscar know and I know I'll have a reliable ride to where I need to go. And everyone that I come across that is interested in going to Belize, I will recommend Oscar over anyone else.
TLDR, If you need a ride in Belize, just message Oscar on WhatsApp!! His number is +5016136030 its been posted around here many times. Make sure you hit him up first you wont regret it!! You can also find him here as BelizeRoadrunner.
Thanks Oscar! You da man!!

2024.06.02 06:12 Moon_Devonshire Been vegan for 10 years yet I have craved meat since I stopped even to this day. Is that normal?

Like weirdly enough I don't feel grossed out about it. I crave it. And I think the reason being is the type of meat I crave. I particularly crave BEEF. So stuff like steaks and Korean bbq.
And I think the reason why is I get my vegan alternatives just fine with chicken, hot dogs. Sausage and so on and it taste just like the normal thing to me and to my meat eater friends.
But something like a steak? I've never had a vegan version and or have ever seen a good vegan alternative anywhere. Heck I've not been able to find a post of someone trying one. I also can't find any restaurants, or stores that sell any vegan steaks. They just don't seem to exist.
The only vegan beef I've ever had that was good was impossible. But that's really just for burgers.

2024.06.02 06:09 throwaway867425143 AITAH for embarrassing my date with my car?

Throwaway account for what will be obvious reasons, and apologies, but this is longer than intended.
I (38F) have recently decided to dip my toes back in to the flaming cesspool that is dating in this modern age. I joined an app, matched with a few guys, talked with a few less, and had a dinner date last night with F (40M) who I felt like I was vibing with via text.
F and I had agreed to meet last night at a nice but not stupidly-expensive steakhouse in a popular upscale district downtown. I had originally planned on driving my Jeep, but it has been at the shop for maintenance and they still hadn't finished by COB Friday. I live too far out of town for Uber to be reliable, so I decided to have fun and drive my new car that was just delivered this week. I got to the restaurant 45 minutes early, valet-parked (I would have done this with the Jeep too, parking in this district is a complete nightmare), and walked down the block to a stationary/book binding boutique I love to pick up a few things. When I walked back to the restaurant to meet F I was a little surprised to see my car was still parked out front of the restaurant in one of the reserved spots instead of being moved back to the designated lot. I asked and found out that the valet company policy was for any car over a certain value threshold be left in the reserved spots out front both to keep an eye on them, and so that the company wouldn't have the liability of a valet potentially damaging them driving. That made perfect sense to me, so I didn't ask them to move it to the back.
F met me at the host stand and after about five minutes got seated at our table. Hilariously to me, we got seated next to the window looking directly out at my car.
Dinner started off... ok? F started off pretty affable, but started making little comments early on about my dress, and what I ordered and how I wanted my steak cooked - he tried to insist to our server that I really wanted medium when I had ordered my steak cooked blue. I joked to the server that when I said I wanted my steak blue (for those who don't know, "blue" is extra-rare), that that might actually be too well-done for me, better just bring it out raw. The server laughed, but F was quiet.
Conversation after that was pretty one-sided. He did ask me "what do you do for a job" (my standard answer is working at an animal sanctuary. It's not technically a lie...), which he scoffed at and made a comment about how I "must not make any money doing that" and "are you sure you can cover your bill here?". I laughed it off, but definitely found it rude.
Once I asked him about his job he completely took over the conversation. He went on ad nauseam about his job in finance at a major corporation, but once he started in about what a great investment crypto is I knew for sure he wasn't getting a second date. Honestly, it felt like I was talking to someone completely different than who I had been texting, and I was not a fan.
I had ordered desert to go, when for some reason, probably trying to impress me? F pointed out the window at what just so happened to be MY car, saying that he was doing so well in crypto he had just picked it up at the dealership, and was getting another next week just because he could.
Now some important backstory: in my very early 20s I won a significant lottery jackpot. Initially I absolutely went stupid and was spending money like an asshole, but after a few months one of my uncle's (a self-made multi-millionaire) sat me down, made me run the numbers with him, and showed me how if I kept doing what I was doing I would be broke before I was 40. He helped me get a good financial planner, and to make long-term plans. As a result over time I've still been able to have and do pretty much whatever I want as long as I don't decide to do something stupid like have a jet for every week of the year, and my money has actually grown. I've helped my close friend's and family out (and only gotten burned once), invest in local small businesses, and donate to charities that mean something to me.
I now live on a large farm outside of our major Midwestern city. And while I do travel all around the world, I spend the majority of my time training and showing horses, as well as providing homes for horses that have been rescued from the slaughter pipeline and can't be repurposed back to work, or retired show horses that need a soft spot to land (and various other animals, like pigs, alpacas, and an absolute hoard of chickens. Someone offered me a giraffe once, and I had to politely decline). And yes, I do actually do a lot of the hands-on work myself, although I have other people who clean the stalls and help with the general caretaking of the retired crowd, which is why it's not really lying when I say I 'work at an animal sanctuary'.
Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the finer things in life like the latest tech and designer clothes, bags, and shoes, but as I've matured I tend to not go for the flashy "logo" option. Except for one thing...
I love fast cars. My daily-driver is a Jeep that I've had for 10 years, and I have a big truck for farm stuff (I didn't drive it to dinner because it is huge and will not fit in any of the garages downtown), but I also have a small collection of late-model Lamborghinis, starting with the Murcielago I bought during my "asshole spending" phase. I also have a Gallardo, an Aventador, a Huracan, and this week I finally had my Revuelto delivered after ordering it more than a year ago. The Revuelto is what I decided to drive to my date, because I just couldn't resist the excuse to drive the new toy.
Now, back to F trying to claim my car as his. On my best day I am a sarcastic bitch, and this opportunity was too much for me to pass up. I started playing along, asking him "omg, isnt that a Lambor-jeenie Hurricane?", which he confirmed it was, and "would he take me for a ride in it after dinner?" He said maybe on our second date he would.
Basically for the next 10 minutes until we settled our checks he bullshitted his way through my questions about the "Hurricane", and how he could help me invest in crypto so I could have nice things too, and "get some nicer clothes from somewhere better than Target, because my girlfriend should only wear designer". For the record, I love Target and have a lot of clothes from there, but I was wearing a dress from The Row to dinner and my bag and shoes were designer as well, just without obvious logos for him to pick up on.
We walked out of the restaurant together and he made a show of telling me and anyone who would listen (there was a small crowd looking at my car and taking pictures with it, which is fine with me as long as they dont lean/sit on it) that he had an errand to run and would be picking his car up from the valet later, but he would wait with me until my car got brought up. I agreed, walked away to the valet stand to pay my ticket, tip, and collect my keys. Then I walked over to my car, and watched his jaw hit the pavement as I opened the door. I said "by the way F, it's a Revuelto, definitely not a "hurricane", and not even a Huracan, but I have one of those too". Some of the people who had been looking at my car were laughing at F as I got in and drove off.
I had 17 texts when I got home from F, berating me for embarrassing him in front of people because I didn't tell him it was my car from the beginning. He also called me a fat bitch after I pointed out he never should have tried to say it was his in the first place and declined his invite to a second date...
Tl;dr I went on a date with a crypto-bro who didn't know I drove a Lamborghini, and he tried to pretend my car was his to impress me.
So AITA for letting him pretend my car was his, and then publicly showing him it wasn't?

2024.06.02 06:07 Sillygrashopper AITAH for asking a customer to leave the restaurant bc of her repeated stiffing?

Just for some background info, I’m a server at a restaurant/bar and there’s this young woman (around mid 20s) that comes alone a couple times a week and sits in different sections. She has stiffed me before (left me $0 tip), usually on $25-35 tabs. She has never left a tip for any of my co-workers, and has been coming for the past couple of months. On top of that she is fairly rude and never says please/thank you.
She came in and I told her that I’m afraid I can’t serve her, that I am uncomfortable being her server and that she can sit at any section other than mine. She was confused as to what she did and understandably asked for my manager. My manager is aware of the situation with this woman and basically told her that his employees make their money from tips and it’s unfair to them to leave them zero every time. She responded that she simply doesn’t have the money to tip, which was a bit strange since our restaurant is not the cheapest place and she comes by a few times a week. While I think the whole tipping system is very flawed in the United States, it’s frustrating when people serve for a living and they get stiffed.
Since then I have felt conflicted about what I did. At our restaurant we have the right to refuse service to anyone, and I have never had to do this before. On one hand, I feel bad about asking someone to leave a restaurant if they like the food and want to eat there. On the other hand, I know that she comes in multiple times a week and stiffs every time; I simply don’t work for free and I’ve got bills to pay- if you are going to stiff at the very least one could be a nice person. Am I the asshole for asking her to leave? Maybe this even sparks a conversation about tipping in general. Pay servers hourly!

2024.06.02 06:03 big_toe_788 I'm not sure if I love my special needs brother anymore

Hey guys. I (16F) have a brother (13M) who was diagnosed with autism when he was a toddler.
I want to start off this post by saying that I'm not mad at him for being autistic, nor do I hate him. But I'm not sure if I can say that I love him right now.
I feel like certain elements of my childhood have been robbed due to having a special needs sibling. I understand there are people that have it worse than me and I also understand that my parents are doing their best to keep both me and my brother happy, but I can't help but resent my brother right now. There were certain things our family couldn't do when I was a kid such as amusement parks, long vacations, sports games, certain restaurants, etc. Those were simply a no-go due to my brother's autism. There were also times where I was having fun but we had to leave early because my brother was overwhelmed by the noise. I understand that's not his fault, but as a kid, I didn't really understand, so I would get mad at him for that
But now, our issues run deeper than having to leave a birthday party early. My brother has turned very manipulative and my mom keeps falling for it. For example, I got my drivers license earlier today and to celebrate my family and I were going to go to one of my favorite restaurants. That was until my brother threw a huge tantrum over having to put away his own damn laundry, which pissed my mom off, which eventually led to her yelling at ME and calling ME lazy, and our dinner outing was cancelled because my mom was in a bad mood and we couldn't trust my brother to behave. But here's the thing, whenever the day isn't about him, he gets like this. He threw a tantrum on my 16th birthday, so instead of having a good birthday, I spent the day feeling sad and angry. He also did this when I won an award for my 100+ hours of volunteering. He threw a tantrum, so on a day where I was supposed to be happy and proud of myself, I ended up feeling sad and angry. He's also done this on my 15th birthday, my dad's birthday, and pretty much any day that's not about him. At this point, I truly think he is doing it on purpose to take the attention away from me (or anyone that's not him) and on to him.
Not to mention, his tantrums are super manipulative. Whenever he gets in trouble for doing certain things such as talking back to my mom or dad, instead of accepting the consequences like a normal person, he says horrible things such as "I am the worst person ever" and sometimes he even threatens to kill himself. I know he doesn't truly think this way and I know he is only saying these things to make my parents feel bad for punishing him. It's gotten to the point where he gets away with doing and saying certain things that I would have never gotten away with simply because my parents are too tired to deal with his manipulative antics.
Which brings me to my next point. I can't even go a day without getting yelled at by my brother. If I even commit the horrible act of walking in the same room he's in. Whenever I do, I either get yelled at, or he looks at me with pure hatred in his eyes. I understand that sibling rivalry is a thing, but this is deeper than that. I truly believe he has a deep hate for me. For example, a few weeks ago, I asked him if he wanted to get food with me, and I got yelled at by him. I have to pretend it doesn't hurt, but it does. It hurts me a lot. It also hurts seing my friends and their siblings getting along so well, knowing that will never be me and my brother. But yet, here I am, hoping, like some sort of idiot.
Furthermore, he also throws these tantrums in public. A few months ago, I was downtown with my mom and my brother after doctors appointments, and we were going to grab lunch, but my brother started throwing one of his tantrums that led to him loudly crying like damn toddler in public. What makes it worse, there were people from my school who saw what was happening and were staring at us. As you could guess, we didn't get to go out for lunch. I just wanted to go home and bury myself in my room and never show my face at school again.
But the thing that truly hurts the most is that we used to have a good relationship. We used to play together, watch moves and TV together, go on bike rides together, and do normal sibling things with the occasional fights. We truly loved each other like normal siblings, but now whenever we're in the same room there's nothing but tension. I used to let it slide because I know that middle school and teenage years are rough, especially for an autistic person, but this has gone on for way too long. Whatt what I neglected to mention earlier, was that I also have mild autism myself. So I truly try to empathize with him and put myself in his shoes, but it's hard to do that when you're constantly being yelled at for everything you do and constantly being manipulated or watching your parents get manipulated.
I feel horrible for saying I don't love my brother, especially considering I used to have nothing but love for him and I also feel like I'm a horrible and impatient person, but I truly don't know what to do anymore. This is more than just "teen angst" this is pure hatred and manipulation.

2024.06.02 06:02 MeghanGee9090 Aggressive and insubordinate employee

I am the manager at a restaurant. I am closing a lot of the time. My dishwashers are not the best and take forever to close…trying to stay on the clock as long as possible. I’m talking 2-2 1/2 hours to close.
My management team has decided it is best “to stay on them.” I decided I will allow two dishwashers 1 hour to close and 1 dishwasher an hour and a half. Today one of them gets mad because they want to clean the floors. I told them, no, I told person B to do the floors. You can finish taking out all the trash. He walks away yelling. I tell him to clock out and go home. He continues to talk yell about how he doesn’t care…it doesn’t matter what I say… he will talk to the GM. He starts calling me the devil…saying he is a man of God. Directly in my face to the point I thought he was going to hit me. I tell him to leave. He refuses. I call security and have to have them escort him out. I tell him to not come in tomorrow either.
I am the only female manager. He does not act this way with the male managers who push them and stay on top of them about their work.
What do I do from here? Part of me wants to refuse to work with him again. He ignored multiple direct commands and was very aggressive. All of this in front of other employees.

2024.06.02 06:02 RaiseCareless1187 Managers messing with my tips?

At the end of the night I pay the restaurant their money. It seems like they’re trying to take money from me. The first time, it dipped $30-40 into my tips. But I didn’t say anything because I feel like there’s a lot of honor system going on so I just trusted my manager.
The second time, I didn’t even have enough money and they said I might get written up for not having the cash. I am so careful with my money but I just trusted them.
The third time it happened tonight. She’s a new manager from another store coming to help the restaurant and she told me I owed $40 more than I did. I was really confused and I was about to argue because I KNEW I didn’t owe that much. She looked at the paper again and was like oops no it’s .
The managers openly talk about being alcoholics, drug addicts. They hit on their employees. The only one that doesn’t talk about her personal life is the gm.
Honestly I would think it was an accident but there’s a lot of times where they don’t give me enough tables, and don’t even put my name is the system when I show up for work so I’m waiting for my first table for 30 minutes!! This is my first serving job and it seems like every thing is like read between the lines or something! And everyone thinks I’m stupid, I hear them say “bless your heart” when I ask a question or roll their eyes. Even the gm.
I think I’m gonna try serving at the new place that’s opening up across the road. But I only have three months of experience. This is soo 💩!!

2024.06.02 05:54 Ok-Emotion-6379 Hi, I'm 23 years old, and don't know how to face having to work for life. Maybe there's something out there that'll make it feel okay? I just want to stop saying no to everything...

Gonna be a long read, thanks for going through it.
I'm in Canada. I attended Uni for 1 year studying IT but dropped out, I did not like a single moment about it. It killed my passive mild interest in coding. I wanted to study social work but threw that idea away after feeling completely apathetic after helping homeless people in the city. During my NEET years, I fell in love with a game. Eventually, I got a full-time day job working on a computer, and at night I taught many other players how to get better at that game for free, and some were willing to pay a couple bucks. I tried to advertise myself through YouTube, but it didn't take off fast enough and I had to call it quits from stress of overworking myself after 6 months. I wasn't given the opportunity to work part time to be able to focus more on being able to make it work.
I absolutely loved every second of it. Filling in my free time with coaching sessions, building and maintaining new relationships with players, constantly brainstorming new lesson ideas for videos, working on scripts, recording and editing videos, designing the thumbnail. Every single video I released I cherish with all my heart and am very proud of myself for what I have made, and I love coaching players so much I continue to do it to this day for free, though much more sparingly than I used to.
That was a year ago. Nowadays, I pay $500 in rent to live in my parents home and just go full degenrotting whenever I am not at work. When I am at work, I miserably and quietly suffocate, begging internally to be saved by the grace of spontaneous death or a time skip to the weekend, even though its only just an hour into Monday. It is not an exaggeration when I say it feels like suffering to be at work. This is not a case of the 'I hate Mondays'. I've already used up all my sick days and vacation hours to avoid work as of last week, so that leaves me with 6 months of no paid time off remaining to use. It's only Saturday night as I type this, and I am already dreading and stressed out about how I have to go back to work soon.
The job itself is like gold compared to any other minimum wage job around I've seen for no degree. Insurance benefit, well air conditioned, I sit by a window with a view of trees and grass, work hours are 7-2:30 M-F with 30 min paid lunches, the work is easy too as it is just basic data entry, and travel takes only 5-10 mins by car. My supervisors and manager are extremely passive as well and basically completely leave me alone, not even so much as a progress evaluation or anything of the sort. Because of this, I spend at least 60% of my work time (if not more) just browsing reddit on my phone and take bathroom breaks constantly, occasionally I will get high in the middle of the work day too. I am the worst employee, no doubt about it, but I truly can't bring myself to care because I find it gratifying to think that I will be fired. I do not talk with any coworkers and have no friends both inside and outside of work.
Typing out that last paragraph and reading it back, a part of me genuinely thought, Wait, that sounds like a dream job. Yet, despite being in it... I hate it, and it sucks that I do :( At work, I often fantasize about escaping in unhinged ways, like jumping from the second floor, calling in a bomb threat, injuring myself to be admitted to a hospital, and other such ilk. I often question what's wrong with me, and wish I just could be okay with where I am in life, but I deeply feel like my life sucks. I have ADHD, I am taking meds for depression, and also seeing a therapist.
I also like to cook, but love learning new dish recipes even more. I would hate cooking if I worked in a restaurant, and I don't have the chutzpah to become a personal chef.
I appreciate you for reading this far. If I could be allowed an additional luxury, please, if you have any suggestions to help me, please make it as detailed as possible; include the exact steps or relevant resources that would take to achieve your suggestion, as well as a description of what the path you suggest looks/feels like. I need to know not only *what*, but also the *how* and *why*. I understand if not every one is willing to do this, I appreciate you all the same for even just responding.
Thankyou

2024.06.02 05:54 Animemann90 How many instances of bad behavior, lack of manners along with a blatant disregard for the rules (or laws) coming from tourists visiting France to the point the locals are getting angry?

I can only speak about Japan, it's getting bad in regards to over-tourism. For instance in Kyoto, there was a tourist acting like a some sort of papparazzi bothering the Geisha walking around, she was reprimanded by another tourist saying that it's rude (rightly so) as the Geisha was just trying her best to not interfere as she's working. You can't do that, as Geisha are humans like everybody else, they don't like to be bothered by unruly tourists up close.
(Plus Japan has strict privacy laws about posting a photo portrait someone's face up close without permission on social media, as you can get sued for breaching their right to privacy.)
The thing is that Japan has unspoken rules (even for the slightest ones) including etiquette that may not cross over to Western culture, which is why Western tourists often fail to understand or completely disregard it, since they think "It's Asia, who cares!" but that kind of mentality is wrong! Thinking it's okay to do stuff Japan deems inappropriate or act like idiots is just crazy.
(A traveler has to be culturally aware of where they are in the world regardless of the country they are currently in, there are mannerisms that are acceptable in their home country but frowned upon in foreign land.)
Apart from Westerners, tourists from both China and South Korea frequently travel to Japan, due to their geographical proximity to their home countries. However there are mannerisms from their own country that aren't tolerated in Japan. (i.e. spitting on the floor)
I swear, what attracts tourists is: video games, anime & pokemon! It's one of the biggest reasons why they end up bringing a empty suitcase to only fill it with nothing but snacks, games, QoL items from Japan.
It's disgusting when tourists in Kyoto (especially in Gion or the Geisha district) are acting like paparazzi whenever they spot a Geisha or Maiko, constantly invading their space approaching right in their faces, that is so rude! pretending as if they are celebrities or actresses, they ask the question on "can I take photo of you" with the attitude of "I want your autograph!" Its ridiculous!
[The thing with Kyoto is that it's a living exhibit, rather than the "typical" art museum vibe.] There are even cases of tourists harassing them, pulling their hair, putting out cigarette butts on their kimonos or tearing their attire, it's bad! (That's disrespectful, since they put a lot of effort on applying that make up and dressing themselves for what they do for a living!) To the point the local government in Kyoto restricted (but didn't ban) tourist presence within private roadways.
[Japanese news segment talking about trash (or food scraps) left on the floor by tourists after visiting Gion and Kyoto despite bins present in the area!] with some of them eating while walking, which is frowned upon in Japan. As a manager from one of the stores showed photos from the last time tourists were present, a 3 bins shown are full and clogged, thus giving tourists an incentive to litter.
Even in other parts of the city, tourists leave empty bottles of soju including other beverages out in the street and pavement! Not being bothered to clean up after themselves.
They are now deterring tourists from entering private roads where Geisha's hang out with a penality of ¥10000 (59€) for trespassing, this applies to everyone - not just tourists. They should not be trespassing on private property, like at all!
Just recently, there are tourists caught trespassing on those private roads. (However the signage is working as a deterent for most, due to the fine imposed.) but like anywhere else there will be bad apples in the bunch who will of course, trespass on private property.
I mean, you can still go to Kyoto, but please... have some manners, that is what they are asking from visitors, as it's a living art museum that has been preserved for centuries to this day, which what makes Kyoto fascinating to visit in the first place.
Even though there are public streets, some of the surrounding ones are deemed private property (which tourists are unaware of.) I also hate the misinformation from "Western" media regarding a "Tourist Ban" - it's not true, you can still go there, but just comply with the rules.
A tourist was caught on video ringing a bell at Yasaka Shrine (which is used for ceremonial purposes) not for playing around, they actually barred off the rope attached to the bell since that happened. (Just because Japan is not a "Christian" country, doesn't mean you get to disrespect their culture and relgion, it's gross!)
For example, in Japan: there was news coverage about tourists being careless on the roadway despite orange traffic cones and a barrier visible on the side of the road intended to dissuade them, tourists either halted incoming vehicles & traffic standing in the middle of the road (MEANT FOR CARS!) just to take a picture of Mt. Fuji. [It's reckless and dangerous if you ask me.]
Some tourists STAND or SIT on the barrier, which is just like, why? Japan has a habit on indirectly solving any problem rather than confronting it head on, so they would rather install a fence to deter tourists rather than closing the road entirely to redirect incoming traffic, like instead of improving the infrastructre Kawaguchiko near Fuji, they just want to barricade the view.
You're probably thinking "Why can't they just close the road and redirect the cars elsewhere? So the tourists can happy." It's because confrontation is frowned upon in Japan, in order to not tarnish their reputation, they instead come up with indirect and descrete approaches on providing solutions to the issue at hand i.e. such as over-tourism, it's nothing new.
For example, they would put signage in Kyoto to deter or convince tourists rather than actually confronting them. Due to Japan being a collectivist society where social harmony reigns, where you need an unanimous vote to rule in your favor without any objections from all parties in regards to decision making when talking about matters like this from a governmental or societal standpoint.
(As opposed to Europe & The West where individualism is valued, Japan is more of "We have to do this as a team" mentality rather than "I want to do this for myself only")
There's more from that clip: (Mainly in Shizuoka)
Tourists standing on the barrier with their own two feet, which again is not allowed. Even the ministry of transportation put out a clear statement regarding implmenting countermeasures on a location you are not meant to tread on (or be jaywalking) so their solution is to "install a barrier" to deter them. But we know how that will end up, tourists still disregard the fact there's an barrier installed.
There's another spot where tourists now can take a picture of Fuji, it's some stairway of an overhead bridge, but people again cross the road (or jaywalk) just to reach it. Not long ago, a female tourist from Tunisia was run over by an incoming vehicle (due to her standing in the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD) for the "instagrammable" picture of the mountain. [in Kawaguchiko this happened.]
Speaking of Kawaguchiko (which is not originally a tourist destination until now), the Lawsons there including Mt. Fuji are always featured on as the backdrop of every TikTok talking about tourism in Japan (alongside Kyoto) Yep, there were even 2 tourists caught jaywalking disregarding the ACTUAL pedestrian crossing. Some tourists are standing on the store's sign posts positioned nearby (that have running electricity and LEDs.) using that as a makeshift tripod for their iPhones!
In regards to Mt. Fuji, from TikTok there are so many "copy cat" itinerary submissions, even the thumbnails are basically the 'same' you can literally see the similarities [down below]. (hence why there are so many tourists flooding the area), like this:
These are just a few examples, but for the most part they are similar to one another the further you scroll down. They all want that \"instagrammability\" of that particular spot, in front of a Lawson. (It's ridiculous.)
Like what was happening in Kawaguchiko, the same is now happening in Fujiyoshida, at a pedestrian crossing, despite a security guard being present, people still disregarded rules about crossing the road, at around [3:00] from the video, the driver of an incoming vehicle had to honk at the tourist standing in the middle of the road so they can pass. (It's stupid.) Of course they were honked at by the driver (He's probably like: "What the hell is this idiot doing here standing in the middle of the road for cars!"), as you're not meant to loiter there halting traffic!
Since Japan started installing a black tarp obstructing the view of Mt. Fuji, tourists still poked holes through it. It's not opaque as you can partially see through it, or walk to the otherside where a Lawson stands, but some still jaywalk disregarding the actual pedestrian crossing even when there's a cop or security guard present.
From this video, a complaint filed by a dental clinic within the area, stating that tourists are leaving trash or left over food scraps near their premises, loitering on the steps approaching their clinic (only patients are allowed to enter) the clinic. Here, there are even complaints from the clinic mentioning about tourists parking their bikes on bike racks only designated for patients entering their clinic, along with trespassing on their premises. Even the dentist himself took photos regarding tourists loitering outside the clinic, patients are having a hard time getting inside because of this.
Not forgetting that they are trespassing on the rooftop, to the point the dentist (or the staff) resorted to calling the police multiple times due to this! Again, tourists were told to move out of the way or move their belongings to let incoming vehicles pass to park their cars at a Lawson. (Even the driver of a incoming truck had to honk at them! so they can move.)
Just last year, Mt. Fuji itself was suffering from an over-tourism problem on its own since tourists are dying to climb to the summit, but some were ill equipped for the journey. (There was even girl caught wearing shorts and sandals upon the trip to the summit - not suitable for climbing!) Some climbers show up shirtless creating a makeshift bonfire.
Public facilities are vandalized or damaged due to over-tourism, now they are enforcing an entry fee of ¥2000 (11,70€) to enter Mt. Fuji because of this! Tourists leave trash everywhere, crowds of them wanting to head to the summit in large gatherings, which causes problems such as overcapacity. (Some climbers even started arguing / causing a scene towards guides!)
Don't get me wrong, tourists do show up with proper gear (i.e. spiked shoes, ice axes, etc.) and attire heading for the summit, but there are bad apples who literally show up with shorts or singlet, which is not advised on a place like this since it's cold up there! You're climbing up a mountain after all. (Heading to the top is their main objective, with stop overs.)
There was a female tourist who literally by passed the fence / yellow line (like the one you stand behind upon waiting for a incoming train) went on the tracks just to take a selfie with her boyfriend! (Disregarding that she's at the station in Kyoto were other commuters are present, a train is going to show up eventually.) Stupid, reckless and dangerous if you ask me, it's like as if she wants to be hit by an incoming train.
In December 2023: In Tokyo, tourists where holding up incoming traffic on a pedestrian crossing, despite cops being present, most of them want a selfie with the Tokyo Tower but holding up traffic with vehicles is just bad, as the security guards / police are telling people to just cross, to keep the flow, not stall incoming cars & traffic (in a busy city - mind you), but tourists were just loitering there (or walking on the road meant for cars) until they were scolded for jaywalking.
There were a group of tourists caught shaking a sakura tree during cherry blossom season causing outrage, they're basically damaging the tree as the leaves were falling prematurely. The intended way the leaves are meant to fall is when they've matured, since the trees are considered part of public property, Japan deemed that as an act of vandalism and destruction of property.
Plus the trees are sacred to the Japanese (its even part of their cultural identity), as they believe it to represent a symbolism of life and death, those who tamper or mess with it are met with misfortune. Also, in the Daikoku Parking Area (in Yokohama) where it's a hangout for car enthusiasts, but the issue is that tourists trespass on the premises, such as climbing the fence breaking inside. (Despite signage forbidding pedestrians to enter, due to it being an area designed for vehicles.)
Earlier this year on January, there was an American livestreamer who was fined ¥200000 (1,171€) for blasting his music way TOO LOUD, as it was disturbing the peace inside a restaurant somewhere in Osaka, it shows that Western streamers (who act like this) have ZERO respect for the customs upon their visit, ruining the reputation of foreigners (and tourists alike) in Japan, which is already causing some Japanese people to hate them.
In hindsight:

2024.06.02 05:49 Grand-Hospital8803 I quit

Family owned Chinese restaurant. Been there for about 10ish months.
I kept trying to wait till I lined up another job but too much accumulated and I said fuck it and quit. I was always reliable and did the job to the best of my ability. I could take about 5ish tables at a time. I was average.
Anyway, I said fuck this shit and gave a little less than a weeks notice. I have three job interviews coming up. One at a hotel restaurant that sounds pretty good.
I was planning on keeping that job when I got another one but tbh I think it was hindering me from getting a second job because of limited availability.
Kinda glad I quit. That drama isn’t my problem anymore.

🔗Royal 100Cx Portable Battery/AC Powered Cash Register - Black

Once upon a time, I decided to set up a small business selling handmade crafts at local markets. I needed a cash register to keep track of sales and manage taxes, so I got my hands on the Royal 100Cx portable cash register. Boy, was I glad I did! This bad boy has helped me run my business smoothly and efficiently.
The first thing that struck me was the convenience of having both battery and AC power options. It's perfect for when I'm out and about selling my crafts or even back at home. The compact design is also a winner; it doesn't hog up much space on my market stall.
But, it's not all sunshine and rainbows with this cash register. The setup can be a little confusing at first, especially when trying to figure out which buttons do what. And you really need to use at least one department key for it to work properly - something that caught me off guard.
Despite these hiccups, I couldn't be happier with my Royal 100Cx cash register. It helps me keep tabs on my sales, computes taxes automatically, and even provides detailed department reporting. Plus, it's solidly built and has held up well through countless transactions. All in all, it's been a trusty companion in my small business journey.
However, there are some cons that I need to address. Some users have reported issues with missing parts and unhelpful customer service, which can be quite frustrating. Additionally, the manual has been described as difficult to navigate.
To sum up, the Royal 100Cx portable cash register might not be perfect, but it gets the job done. It's a reliable ally for small businesses or casual vendors who need a no-fuss solution for managing sales and taxes. Just be prepared to dive into the quirks and quirks of setting it up yourself.

I recently got the chance to use the Royal 6000ML Cash Register, and I must say, it's quite the workhorse. This compact cash register is designed to streamline register operations, helping businesses run smoothly and accurately.
One feature that really stood out is its ability to handle up to 6,000 price look-ups (PLUs). I frequently found myself selling items that were part of our standard inventory, and this made entering those items quick and easy. Additionally, the registers 36 departments for sales analysis by category allowed me to track sales trends, giving me valuable insight into what's selling and what's not.
On the downside, though, the instructions could be better. While the programming itself is not too complicated once you get the hang of it, the manual could be more intuitive. Also, the 10-slot cash drawer felt a bit too large for a small business.
Overall, the Royal 6000ML Cash Register is a decent piece of equipment, but it may not be the best choice for everyone. If your business requires a lot of SKUs and you need a quick and easy way to input data, this could be a good fit. However, if you're looking for something with a more intuitive user interface, you might want to look elsewhere.

I recently got my hands on the New Classic Toys 10650 Cash Register and let me tell you, it's been a hit in my household! My little one loves playing shop and this colorful cash register has been a key ingredient in her imaginative play.
The first thing that caught my eye was its vibrant design - it's not your usual boring plastic toy. The cash register comes with some fun extras like a scanner, credit card, portable ATM, eight coins, and some paper money which have kept my child engaged for hours.
One of the standout features for me was how it encourages creativity and hand-eye coordination skills. Seeing her role play with this toy has truly been a joy. Plus, it's suitable for kids aged 3 and up, making it perfect for many years of play.
However, one small downside is the size of the product. It's not very big, especially if you have multiple kids playing together or if you want to store other toys along with it. Despite this minor inconvenience, the overall quality and fun factor of the New Classic Toys 10650 Cash Register more than make up for it.
In conclusion, if you're looking for a toy that not only entertains but also helps develop cognitive skills in young children, then the New Classic Toys 10650 Cash Register is definitely worth considering.

As a cashier at a bustling retail store, I've had the pleasure of using the Royal MB30 Cash Drawer with USB. Its heavy-duty metal construction immediately caught my eye, providing me with the peace of mind that comes with knowing my cash is safely tucked away. The spring-loaded easy glide drawer slid open smoothly every time, making it a breeze to retrieve change for customers.
One feature that really stood out to me was the drawer lock with two keys. Not only does it keep my hard-earned cash secure, but it also gives me an extra layer of control over the drawer. Plus, there's an emergency release tab on the front, offering me an easy way to open the drawer if needed.
However, there was one small issue I encountered with this cash drawer. The removable coin slot was a bit too loose for my liking. While it was easy to adjust the size of the slots for different coins, they didn't always stay perfectly in place. This wasn't a deal-breaker for me, though, as the benefits of this cash drawer far outweighed this minor inconvenience.
Overall, I've thoroughly enjoyed using the Royal MB30 Cash Drawer with USB in my daily work routine. Its robust construction, easy-to-use features, and compatibility with various POS systems have made it a reliable asset in my cash handling tasks. I'd highly recommend this cash drawer to anyone in need of a secure, efficient solution for their retail or restaurant business.

As a small business owner, I've been using the Royal Alpha 7000ml Cash Register for several weeks now, and it's been quite the rollercoaster ride. The dual thermal printers are incredibly fast and quiet, making the transaction process smoother and less chaotic. Plus, the running journal alongside the receipt printer has been an unexpected lifesaver in keeping track of sales.
The large 10-line LCD display and alphanumeric keyboard are a breeze to navigate, making it a snap to program and customize the register to fit my specific needs. However, the SD card slot for data transfers was a game-changer for efficient accounting.
On the downside, the instruction manual for programming was quite lacking in detail, leaving me to figure out a lot on my own. They should have made instructions more clear and comprehensive, especially for first-time users. Also, the "no sale" button was non-functional, which was quite frustrating.
However, overall, the Royal Alpha 7000ml Cash Register has proven to be sufficient for my small cafeteria-style restaurant. The balance of features and minor inconveniences make it a good choice, but the learning curve can be steep for first-time users.

2024.06.02 05:41 PresentationIll9256 Traveling to Oregon Help

My friend and I are flying to Oregon for the first time at the end of August. We are not really familiar with travel planning and itineraries. We are planning to stay about 7-9 days. We are mainly wanting to see all the beautiful nature. Like hiking waterfalls and the beaches on the coast. Probably will be flying into Portland since it seems like it’s in the middle of most places. We would like to go to places like Cannon Beach, Gods Thumb beach, Multnomah Falls, and Silver Falls. I know we will have to drive some hours to each destination, which is not preferred but seems necessary. It may be best for us to drive around in a camper instead of staying at different hotels. Maybe insight on where to park our camper (if we get one) to sleep at night. We have a ton of places that we wrote down that look awesome. I’m also vegan and heard that there’s some awesome restaurants! We need a bit of help with planning the best and most efficient itinerary to see the most. We can use tips on itineraries or even how to organize one. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!

2024.06.02 05:40 upstatestruggler Bar manager reaching out to my BOH homeys here for some advice

I manage the bar at a newish but very stable restaurant in a tourist-heavy destination area (you can probably guess my general region based on my u/, I’ll get more specific if it helps, I’m willing to burn my whole reddit down and doxx myself at this point). We can’t find a line cook to save our fuckin’ lives. Lots of interviews no one shows up for or “successful” interviews that end in the person not showing up for their first scheduled shift. Our only “stable” person (besides one of the owners who works the line every minute we’re open) flat out lied about his kid getting in a car accident to get out of work yesterday when he was actually getting fucked up with his friends which is like I get that happens (his grandfather drives him around due to no car and always comes up to have a drink with me while he waits for him to be done and told me it was all a lie) BUT we’re totally dependent on this bullshitter because we cannot find ANYONE.
So my question is this: where the fuck y’all finding people to work ya lines? It’s a four day 34 hour work week with competitive pay. Menu is not insane or challenging by any stretch. We’re at the end of our ropes and looking for new avenues to find kitchen people because the usual channels (ads, signs, social media, linkedin, indeed) aren’t giving us shit. Halp!
TL;DR what methods are you using to find kitchen staff?

2024.06.02 05:38 ChicoGrande_ I feel like my future has no direction

I feel lost regarding my future. I've only ever worked two job in my life, one as a waiter and the other as a kitchen hand but got promoted to apprentice. I left the job as a waiter because it was an emotional drain and I suffered abuse from the kitchen staff. The kitchen hand job was my first job and, while it was stressful and physically taxing, I really enjoyed it. So I happily accepted the offer for an apprenticeship.
The issue is that I'm not happy with the industry. I hate the classes I have to take as an apprentice, as all the instructors are absorbed with tradition and focusing on how the cooking industry worked during their time. I have uni classes, but I'm studying only Japanese. The only thing I enjoy about my work, is working at the place itself. And as this restaurant is losing business, I want to find something I can pursue before I have nothing at all.
I could pursue the apprenticeship, but I'd be unhappy and poorly paid. I've considered tutoring people in Japanese, but there's no guarantee for work. It seems better off as a side hustle. I could get into teaching, but I really don't want to return to uni just for a teaching degree. I've spent so much time in various education systems, I'm tired of it. I'm tired of devoting my time to classes where I'm unhappy and recieve very little. Plus, I don't want to study something halfhearted just to hate it halfway. I want to invest my time into something I genuinely want to do, something that makes me happy. But chances are that I'd have to study something to qualify to do it, which stresses me out and I really don't want to return to any trade school or university. I really want to stop studying, but at the same time that thought makes me feel lazy.
I feel obligated to continue with the apprenticeship, because my brother was really proud of me when I started it. Which make me really happy because I don't have the closest connection with my brother. But at this point, I'm unhappy with it. The things I want to do don't guarantee a secure income, and I don't feel motivated enough to return to uni to push myself through that stress and anxiety again. I just want to be happy with a job I can enjoy doing. But I don't know what that is or how to figure it out.
