Conclusions derived from two facts also qualify as facts. Example:
Fact: Morgott is a member of the Golden Lineage
Fact: The Golden Lineage began with Godfrey
Conclusion: Morgott is a descendant or offspring of Godfrey
There may be instances where one piece of text contradicts another (the infamous "First Elden Lord" discrepancy). In instances such as this, the text is subject to scrutiny and it may be necessary to pick one statement over another. However, the existence of such instances is not an invitation to dismiss the rest of the text out of hand. If your claim is that a piece of text is false, please provide evidence that specifically points to that. One piece of text being false does not mean that another, unrelated piece of text is also false. Similarly, the game may used language such as "it is believed" or "it is said". Anything after this type of phrase has the potential to be in-universe hearsay, however, the use of the phrase does not automatically make it false- again, if you believe the text to be false please provide evidence for it being false.

The game makes up the primary canon. A statement from the game can only be contested by another statement from the game. The story trailers for the base game and the expansion should also be considered primary evidence, as their purpose is to clarify aspects of the story.
2. Developer statements
This includes interviews and any comments made by Hidetaka Miyazaki or other members of Fromsoftware. As certain things change during development, it is plausible that certain statements might be rendered outdated by the final game. Developer statements should therefore only be considered non-canon if the game's text outright contradicts them.
3. George RR Martin
GRRM wrote the initial draft for the game's plot, and therefore much of the lore likely came from him originally. However, as his involvement ended years before the game was finalised (as he stated in this blog post), it is impossible to know exactly how close the final product hews to his original draft.
4. Promotional materials
This includes taglines, promotional text from Bandai Namco, official guides, and any ancillary materials. These can be taken as canon unless contradicted by the game or the developers, but use your best judgement.
5. Unused/meta content
This includes unused items, NPCs, item descriptions, dialogue, and miscellaneous text found in the game's files, information that only exists in previous builds of the game, internal names and IDs, and generally anything that cannot be found in regular gameplay, "Cut content" and internal names can be incredibly useful when gauging the developers' intentions, and can help us understand what they were going for, however it is not always possible to assess why the content was cut, or what purpose those internal names serve. Feel free to bring up and discuss this type of content, but make sure that your theory is grounded in information that can be acquired from the playable build of the game.
6. Everything else
Enough said. This includes other games by Fromsoftware- comparisons are encouraged, but should not be considered canon.
The Elden Ring Fandom Wiki contains English and Japanese options for many item descriptions and most dialogue, extracted from the game. The Elden Ring Text Explorer by u/tavoe is also a very useful resource for quickly finding English and Japanese text.

Evidence
Due to the oblique nature of Elden Ring's storytelling, there are many different ways to interpret the information that the game conveys. However, it is expected that the core components of your theory are grounded within the game. In-game text including item descriptions, dialogue, sword monuments, and anything written into the game by the developers qualifies as primary evidence. Visual details/environmental storytelling accounts for a not-insignificant portion of Fromsoftware's storytelling. This includes in-game statues, murals, enemy and item placements, and visuals. However, by nature these details can be interpreted in an uncountable number of different ways. Therefore, visual details are best used as secondary evidence. Please try and base your theories around the text, with visual details as supporting evidence. If the subject of the theory is itself a visual detail (e.g. discussing the identity of a statue or speculating about why something looks a specific way), please try to include textual evidence to support your conclusion. If you don't have evidence to cover everything, that's fine- it's the nature of the game- but please be conscious of when your theory contains large gaps and do your best to fill them without large amounts of baseless speculation.Fact vs Theory

Japanese vs English
Fromsoftware is a Japanese developer, and as such the text is written in Japanese first and localised into other languages later, by companies like FrogNation. This is muddled somewhat in the case of Elden Ring by the fact that the initial draft was created by George RR Martin, an English speaker, as well as by the fact that the dialogue for all regional versions of the game is spoken in English, despite the script being written in Japanese first. Due to the fundamental differences between Japanese and English, there are certain possible discrepancies between the two versions. Naturally, this leads to much debate about how accurate the English localisation is. This is an English-language subreddit, and nobody is expected to know Japanese, however it can be helpful to compare the English text to the Japanese in order to resolve certain ambiguities or discrepancies. However, the existence of discrepancies does not mean the localisation should be treated as completely wrong- FrogNation has a long professional history with Fromsoftware, and Fromsoftware evidently trusts them to interpret their stories. Please feel free to point out instances where the Japanese text conveys a completely different meaning to the English, or where one version is more or less ambiguous than the other, but do not try to present your own translation as more accurate than the official one. Over the course of eight months, up until April, I’ve built 14 computers and sold 12 of them, the other 2 are for personal use.
Most of the time, I buy mediocre used parts since it’s cheap and can still run great. I’m talking about gtx 970’s, some amd r9 cards, and some older intel 6th and 7th gen chips. I get everything for a really cheap price, then I sell it for at least a $250+ profit.
The reason why I think this lil side hustle is kind of scummy is because most of my clients were kids and they had their mom buy it for them, which I know damn well I’m ripping them off for the price because I myself wouldn’t pay this much, but they’re still cheaper than brand new computers. My most recent sale was a guy I kind of know, and I told him every single spec, down to the last minute detail, and he still offered to trade his PS5 + gave me $100 cash for the shitty pc I built him. Is it partially my fault for scamming him, or am I just a good businessman for advertising these computers so well? I’m scared of getting jumped by this guy if he finds out he got ripped off.

First of all apologies if this is the wrong place to ask. I recently just missed out on a sale on the forerunner 955 on the Garmin NZ website. Not many other local retailers stock it, and the ones that do sell it at full price just like the website.
On Amazon however, the forerunner is actually cheaper (when converted to NZD) than when the watch was on sale on the Garmin NZ website. I’m super tempted to buy it off Amazon, but it’s quite a large purchase for an electronic device that isn’t local. In NZ we have the Consumers Guarantee Act which means a retailer is obligated to fix issues if the device/manufacturing is at fault even if it is out of warranty. This gives me quite a bit of peace of mind.
I’m looking for any opinions or stories on how difficult it was to deal with Amazon/Garmin when issues arose, and to any New Zealanders on here, if you recommend buying from Amazon or waiting for another sale.
Unrelatedly, a local retailer has the 965 on sale for the same price as the 955 (full price). I think I would prefer the MIP screen, hence the 955, but I’m seeing a lot of divided opinions.
The biggest thing for me is that I like the idea of a bigger screen and more maps detail, but for some reason, all the photos I’ve seen of the 965 just looks wrong/worse than the 955 and I can’t place my finger on it. I think it may be that the smaller black ring/bigger screen makes the 965, an already large watch, feel bigger than the 955 even though they are the same size?
With the 965 on sale, unsure which one to get.
On yet another note, the 955 solar is on sale too and is cheaper than the 955 normal full price. Is the screen bad enough on the solar that I shouldn’t be buying it, even if it is cheaper than the non solar?

This all took place over the course of about 6 weeks. It was a little over two weeks until we were able to reserve a car and then had to wait another 4 weeks for delivery. My wife and I took turns reaching out to dealers in between work and kids.
What I would do differently

- Dealer 1 - $5k markup, non-negotiable, no Siennas on the lot and everything had a waitlist.
- Dealer 2 - Woodland, found car on toyota.com, started purchase online through Toyota’s SmartPath (the estimate you see online is what you’ll pay at the dealership). Received call immediately and said they would send over all the details so I can confirm and move forward. I thought this was strange since all the details, with OTD pricing was online. Six hours later they send a new price breakdown with an additional $5k markup. When I asked why the price changed they came back with a $2k markup for window tinting. I said MSRP and they said sales manager won’t go any lower since I am not local.
- Dealer 3 - XLE, MSRP price, but required GPS-based theft prevention add-on for $1,300, no deal.
- Dealer 4 - No cars available, reservations are only for locals, if you are out of town you can only buy what is on the lot
- Dealer 5 - MSRP, no add ons, 6-8 month waitlist, but will probably be sooner.
- Dealer 6 - XLE Sienna on lot, $3k markup. Dropped to $1k markup after I asked for MSRP. Back and forth was slow as both of us were busy, they ended up selling to someone else.
- Dealer 7 - 2 Siennas on lot (XLE & XSE), setup appointment and showed up the next day. (Website shows MSRP pricing) I show up the next day and there are no Siennas on the lot, but one coming in next week, which I can have for a $7k markup. I said MSRP and was told no way, so we left.
- Dealer 8 - XSE, MSRP pricing, but would have to have it shipped from the East Coast. Asked for dealer to pay shipping, but no dice. Felt like we could do better.
- Dealer 9 - Limited available, waitlist for other trims. Avoided question on dealer markups.
- Dealer 10 - XLE on lot. Antitheft required addition. Tried negotiating, but conversation petered out.
- Dealer 11 - XSE on lot with $2k markup, $1,200 theft prevention, and a few dealer options installed including paint protection. They weren’t negotiating.
- Dealer 12 - MSRP pricing, waitlist 6-12 months
- Dealer 13 - MSRP pricing, waitlist 6-12 months
- Dealer 14 - MSRP XSE available, however it came with the premium package and I didn’t want to pay for that.
- Dealer 15 - No Siennas available, said they usually sell them for above MSRP
- Dealer 16 - XSE available for reservation, but I had to do it in person. They kept providing ambiguous answers in regard to their pricing. It was a 3.5 hour drive for me, so I wasn’t going to go unless they provided some details. They promised to send over pricing info, but never sent it.
- Dealer 17 - XLE and Woodland available for reservation at MSRP (long drive for me, but doable). However paint protection and theft prevention are required for $1,300, not negotiable unless we did a trade in at a price that was thousands below my best offer elsewhere. Kept trying to negotiate, but they weren’t budging much. Finally salesman agreed to knock a few hundred dollars off, but sales manager said no. Surprised on this one, we thought we were going to make a deal and a few hundred apart they wouldn’t agree. We were honest with informing them we were considering another car that had more add-ons. They must have done some sleuthing through Toyota’s inventory with the car details we had shared and identified who we were talking to. They named the dealer in our conversation and bad-mouthed them, saying they would pull dirty tricks once we went to purchase the car. This deal fell apart at the finish line and left a bad impression on us.
- Dealer 18 - XLE and Woodland available for reservation. No dealer markup, but dealer installed options inflated the price. I could easily fly to this dealership on a cheap ticket, no BS from sales, so we agreed on MSRP price and placed a reservation.
What I would do differently
- Reach out to dealers over the phone instead of submitting requests online. This will just be a more efficient use of time . Half the time I was put in contact with someone who wasn’t a sales person and couldn’t provide the information I was looking for. A number of times I asked a question and it was ignored or side stepped. Sometimes I got no response from the internet team.
- Treat window tinting, paint protection, and theft prevention as a red flag. Any dealer who mentions one of these or has added it to their car, I would cross off my list and never talk to again. There are plenty of dealers who don’t do this and I think it is an easy tell that you don’t want to work with them. I didn’t have any good experiences when this was on the table.
- Negotiate harder on having dealer installed options removed that I don’t care about.
- See who is active on the No Markup Toyota Facebook page and talk to them first. I only had positive and productive interactions with the people on there.
- Focus on building a short list of dealers you want to work with and figuring out how they operate. Then i is a matter of checking in with them periodically, especially around allocation time.

- I’ve been doing many jobs with a push mower and other equipment (string trimmer, other similar equipment), push mower is tough on the body and not as efficient as a zero turn. I’d like to get a zero turn, but I’d need to tow it so I’d need a trailer, and perhaps a truck. I could get a zero turn & trailer for, maybe $7k? A beaten up truck for another few grand.
