AEW Double Or Nothing 2023 Part 1

2023.04.01 03:17 itsripley__ AEW Double Or Nothing 2023 Part 1

Double or Nothing 2023 is right around the corner and Las Vegas is going to go ALL IN (pub absolutely intended) on the AEW’s version of the grandest stage. Double or Nothing this year has the potential to take home the crown for show of the year but how we get to that point is the most important thing to look at. So why don’t we indulge ourselves with a little peek into how Double Or Nothing 2023 will culminate……….
THE BUILD….
CASINO ROYALE
The Casino Battle Royal is a staple of the AEW Event and more primarily Double or Nothing. Last year’s event felt amiss with the absence of the bout. However this year we plan to bring it back and award the winner an AEW World Heavyweight Championship Match! The build toward the match is as follows.
On an episode of Dynamite two weeks before the PPV, The Jericho Appreciation Society (Daddy Magic, Cool Hand Ang, Daniel Garcia, and Jake Hager) backstage announce that the J.A.S will be entering the Casino Battle Royal and taking the AEW Title back to the J.A.S where it belongs. They are approached by Top Flight and AR Fox who also throw their names into the hat and say they want to give the world a preview of what’s to come….Matt Menard calls them bad at counting because it’s 4 to 3. That’s when Dustin Rhodes walks into frame and says that he’s game to make it an even score and challenges the 4 to an 8 man tag match on Rampage!!
During the 8 man tag match we see things breakdown. Darius and AR wipe out Daddy Magic and Cool Hand Ang before Hager flies in with a double lariat but both men suck and hit a double dropkick! Hager stumbles back but doesn’t go down! AR motions for Darius to hit the ropes. Off the rebound Darius is launched over AR with momentum as he flies into Hager but is caught! Fox hits the ropes and dropkicks Darius’ back to send Hager back through the ropes with Darius and the two spill to the floor! Menard and Ang assist Hager up and realize that Darius is on the floor by himself but from the heavens comes AR Fox who wipes out J.A.S!!!! Back in the ring Dante thrust Kicks Garcia and the two legal men are separated! Garcia tries to pull Dante back by the leg but he gets kicked back and Dante dives for the tag to Dustin!! Dustin comes in like a blazing fire! The old cowboy does have some tricks that still work as he gets Garcia to the corner and hits what was once known as Shattered Dreams!!!! Dustin pulls Garcia out who gets blind tagged by Cool Hand Ang….Dustin hits the running bulldog! As he goes for the cover Angelo slips in and tries to pull a fast one on Dustin who scouts this like only a veteran of the game would, as he counters a schoolboy attempt into a Crossface!!! Angelo squirm but gets pulled away by Menard who gets on the apron and in Dustin’s face. Menard slaps Rhodes who just bends down as Dante steps up on his back and nails an enziguri!!! Dante grabs Angelo by the legs and slingshots him into Dustin who catches him and connects with FINAL RECKONING!!! Dustin covers! 1….2….3!!! Dustin Rhodes, Top Flip, and AR Fox gain a whole lotta momentum heading into Double or Nothing! But as the group celebrates they get jumped by Big Bill, Lee Moriarty, and The Varsity Athletes who also have thrown their names into the hat for The Casino Battle Royal! The episode of Rampage ends in a pull apart of the match participants that can’t seem to be contained!!!! The match at Double or Nothing is set with more names to be announced by the event!!!
THAT BITCH FROM ANOTHER GALAXY
Jade Cargills run as TBS Champion has been undoubtedly lackluster with a handful of matches that actually have rewatch value to them which means that it’s time for the right challenger to come along and hopefully knock Jade off her high horse…
At Dynamite Road Rager Taya Valkyrie unsuccessfully challenges for the TBS Championship after she cockily goes for road to Valhalla prematurely as Jade counters out rolling through and pulling Taya up for JADED!!! Jade covers and gets the 3 count!! Jade post match has Leila Grey help her in a beat down on Taya. But some familiar music hits as Kris Statlander makes her long awaited return and rushes the ring!!!! Statlander runs off Jade and Leila!!!
In the lead up to the PPV Statlander gets a victory over Leila Grey in singles action. She calls out Jade saying that before she went down with her injury she was next in line and her ticket has no use by date….Jade doesn’t initially accept the challenge not believing that Kris really still has any right to challenge and she brings in Mark Sterling for legal proof. Sterling says that unfortunately per orders of Tony Khan Kris Statlander is the next woman in line as she signed a contract with him stating she could pick the time and place to have a title match and Statlander never did that!! Jade fires Smart Mark for failing time and time again and attacks Leila Grey for not being able to get the job done repeatedly. Jade sheds her skin and says she never needed a safety net and that since day one she’s been ready to go on her own and now she plans to prove it! The match for Double or Nothing is set as Jade's reign is in jeopardy!!
WHAT MAKES YOU SPECIAL?!
Upon his return from a near career ending injury Adam Cole has defeated J.A.S’s Daniel Garcia and caught the attention of a certain Wizard…..
On Dynamite Daniel Garcia is pissed off as he lost his bout against Cole but Jericho reassures him that the Society will be back to their winning ways after they win the Owen Hart Tournament! Jericho says that he’s going to travel the globe and bring prestige back to the Owen Hart name! Unlike last year’s winner who did nothing but barely travel and sat in a different hospital bed….Jericho goes on to say he and Garcia will be taking a spot in the tournament. The other participants announced are Ricky Starks who Jericho has had a run in with in the past. Juice Robinson who’s recently engaged in war with Starks. Adam Cole who’s looking to redeem his loss in time over the last year and become a two time winner of the tournament. The others we will come around to. Jericho and Cole make it to the semi finals where they both cost their matches by one another’s presence and this sparks something between the two!
Cole marches out to the ring and demands Jericho comes out. Jericho makes his way down and engages in a war of words with Cole. Jericho asks why Adam cares so much about a stupid trophy…Cole responds by saying that it’s the last big accomplishment he’s had and the first big one he got since coming to AEW. But after he went down with an injury that nearly ended his career he knew that getting back to that point meant everything to him because it was a representation of change. Change for Owen’s Legacy and Change for Cole. Jericho doesn’t want Coke around because he’s not special anymore his fire has died down. In a few years people won’t want to see the same tired old act that Cole has been doing. He wants Adam to take notes because Jericho has had a 30 plus year career with minimal time away and injury. Jericho has remained consistent and has adapted over the years to keep himself relevant. Cole rebuttals by saying that Jericho had to change who he was because everyone would’ve gotten tired of him…Cole says eventually these people will stop singing Judas…his group will change or fizzle out….and Jericho will come up with some more hokey ideas to keep himself from falling to the wayside. Unlike Jericho Cole has never had to change a damn thing about who he is…the Adam Cole we see now is the same Adam Cole who was tearing down a bingo hall in Reseda California!!! Cole wants to put Jericho in his place and shut him up once and for all at Double Or Nothing!!! The match is set!
KTV
Lets see how Powerhouse Hobbs will fare with his first major hurdle in his TNT Title reign!!
Powerhouse Hobbs has gotten out of his rematch with Wardlow after QTV Footage reveals that Aron Solow broke into Wardlow’s hotel and stole his car keys and his security pass to get into the arena for the match. Wardlow is shown in the parking lot running through security and destroying his surroundings; this act of aggression causes Wardlow to face a fine and temporary suspension. Leaving Hobbs without any threats!
Meanwhile Konosuke Takeshita is racking up wins and is put into a match with Nick Commorotto of The Factory in which he wins after using his brute strength to put down the big man in convincing fashion! Takeshita backstage gets interviewed about his win and is interrupted by Solow who wants to enact revenge for his partner but Takeshita lays him out after throwing him through a door which leads right into the QTV set! Takeshita laughs as he closes the door behind him and the scene ends with Konosuke up to something…..
On an Episode of QTV we see Hobbs and QT discussing Hobbs' genius plan to get rid of Wardlow. As they plan to air never before seen footage of their plan coming to fruition! But the footage has been taped over and it’s footage of Takeshita acting like QT as he makes fun of The Factory and he calls Hobbs a walking balloon animal! This pisses Hobbs off who orders the footage to be erased! He tells Takeshita that if he wanted a title shot all he had to do was ask…..Hobbs tells him to meet him at Double or Nothing so that he can be embarrassed so bad that not even the magic of Vegas and Lady Luck will be able to turn it around!
TIME FOR A CHANGE
It’s time to talk about the Women’s Owen Hart Tournament!
The Participants for the Tournament announced are Ruby Soho, Britt Baker, Willow Nightingale, Saraya, Anna Jay, Tay Melo, Riho, and Hikaru Shida. Ruby, Britt, Saraya, and Willow all advance through to the Semi Finals and raise the stakes for the tournament's end….
Britt Baker Exacts her revenge on Saraya evening the score between the two after forcing Saraya to tap out to the LockJaw! Ruby Soho defeats her former friend Willow in an emotional confrontation that ends with Ruby cheating to get her way through to the finals after she puts Willow away with the Destination Unknown!! Ruby, Saraya, and Toni lay the beat down to Willow which causes Britt and Jamie to make the save! Ruby and Britt face off and that’s when everyone realizes exactly what we have on our hands as Ruby and Britt will be standing face to face once more in the finals!!
PRODIGAL DAUGHTER RETURNS
This one’s about the Women’s Title folks…immediate follow up.
During the face off between Baker, Hayter, & The Outcasts we see the shocking return of Thunder Rosa!!!! Rosa is seemingly back to even the score but she takes out everyone!! Rosa at the end of the brawl raises the title and is clear what her intentions are!!
This attack sparks some controversy as Toni Storm was set to challenge Jamie for the title but Rosa wants to throw her name into the mix to get her belt back. Toni is pissed that after Rosa left no one thanked Toni for hoisting the division on her shoulders. The least they could’ve done was give her the actual title instead of a crappy interim title…..Jamie says that Toni wasn’t deserving of it because the second her demands weren’t met she’d be like her little friends and run away. Toni takes offense but still believes she’s the best person to challenge but Rosa sees differently as she never lost the belt. Both Jamie and Toni agree that Rosa gave up because she couldn’t handle it. But Rosa wants to redeem herself so the match gets made for Double or Nothing!!!
ANARCHY IN THE ARENA
The BlackPool Combat Club and the Elite have been going at it back and forth but the writing on the wall is clear so we make this short and sweet because the match will speak for itself! The Young Bucks make their return as Kenny and Hangman are still having problems with one another but The Bucks settle the matter by revealing that Callis is the cause of all of Kenny’s problems and that he needs to be dropped if they’re going to survive BCC. Kenny doesn’t want to listen. He does end up walking out on a scheduled tag match with Hangman not wanting to reopen old wounds but this pisses Hangman off as he tells Kenny to get his head out of the gutter and focus on the matter. On the go home Kenny is torn during a BCC Beatdown to save The Bucks and Hangman as Callis tells him not to indulge….this is when Kenny walks past Callis and makes the save!!! Kenny picks up the mic and closes the show by saying ANARCHY IN THE ARENA!!!!! The match is set for the PPV!!
FROM GUNNS TO MACHINE GUNS!
This one’s simple….The Motor City Machine Guns lose a rematch for the Impact Tag Titles and are on their way to AEW but who are they after?! FTR put up their careers in AEW for the tag titles and they somehow walk away with the Gold despite all that’s thrown at them by the Gunns!! FTR are immediately challenged by MCMG and suddenly we have a Dream match on our hands!!!! The match gets made for the PPV!
MISCELLANEOUS MATCHES
Orange Cassidy decides to put on an actual open challenge for his International Title at the Ppv! Who might be the surprise?!
House of Black reopen an old wound with The Lucha Bros but this time they have Mark Briscoe in their corner!
ABSOLUTE INSTANT CLASSIC
Ricky Starks defeats Juice Robinson in the first round of the Owen Hart tournament! He goes on to defeat Chris Jericho thanks to Adam Cole in the semi finals!! But who’s there meeting him on the other side?! It’s Christian Cage!!! That’s right the Instant Classic has returned to defeat Adam Cole in the semi finals to come face to face with Ricky Starks!!!! WHO WILL WIN IN THE FINALS?!
FOUR PILLARS
MJF put the challenge to the three men who want the Title….He says that none of them can lose their matches in the lead up to Double or Nothing and if any one of them does that person will be out of the match! MJF however meddles with the matches, stacking the odds against all of them. He puts Sammy in a match against his YouTube friends. Griff Garrison, Fuego Del Sol, Shawn Dean. He tries to pull at the heart strings of Sammy who overcomes it all but in the end he brings out one guy that Sammy may truly have a hard time beating….Marko Stunt. Stunt makes a one off appearance to go head to head with Sammy who initially refuses to fight but MJF ensures him that if he doesn’t he gets no Title match. Sammy reluctantly takes the match and beats Marko with a heavy heart. (Marko goes to the Casino Battle Royal)
JungleBoy challenges aren’t easy either as he’s given all the big guys in the company. Big Bill, Samoa Joe, And even his old friend Luchasaurus who wants to get his hands on Jungle Boy again but Jack whether it be through DQs, Count Outs, or a Straight up pin fall survives!!! Jack makes it to the PPV!
Darby’s challenges are quite fun as he’s given a series of hardcore street fight like matches against some deathmatch/GCW competitors like Ricky Shane Page and Mance Warner. and even after defeating everyone MJF nearly cracks Darby by saying that if he wants to get his title shot he needs to beat STING!!! Darby doesn’t want to do it and says his loyalty to Sting is more important. But Sting slaps Darby and orders him to fight him! And we finally get a one on one bout between the two that Darby wins after Sting goes down to a Last Super!!!! All three men have survived MJFS trials and has won their way to the PPV TITLE MATCH!!!!

2015.08.06 02:21 LeifCarrotson Critique my fence plan

I want to install a fence with the goal of beautifying the backyard and giving the dog some space to run free. I have a little more than an acre lot, and want to fence the back half up to the house. It's about 400 feet of fence, so I want to do it right, and would like your input!
The wife doesn't want privacy fence, but we need to contain dogs, so we're thinking of doing a 3-rail fence with welded wire mesh. Something like this: http://i.imgur.com/bhM4HZ8.jpg. Except, obviously, 3 rails instead of four. The picture shows about what the interior of the fence would look like, so we'd have nice rails with barely visible mesh to the neighbors and street, and the wire mesh with fascia boards stapled to the inside. We're in Michigan, where the frost line is about 42'. With those factors in mind, the elements of the fence are:
** Survey and 811:** Since I want to put this fence on the property line, and I've only recently moved here, I'm planning to get a survey. The neighbors have a buried fence that seems to be a couple feet on their side of where the line is, and I'd like to know whether the lilacs are mine or theirs. Also, the neighbors to the north have a partial fence (just T-posts and wire) that I think may be on my property, based on the markers and an older fence that's set further back. I called three local surveyors and have two quotes, one for $365 and one for $400 to "set/confirm the front and back property corners and set stakes every 50' or so from the West side of the house westerly to the back property line and also along the back property line." I also called 811 a few months ago to check that there was nothing buried for a different project; there was a phone line but we moved that when we got internet this spring.
Wire mesh: 60"x100', 14 ga. welded wire with 2x4" spacing: $90/roll at TSC: https://shop.familyfarmandhome.com/products/welded-wire-60-x100----2x4-14-ga-10573.html - total 4 rolls for $360. The bottom 6" would be laid flat on the ground inside or buried in lawn areas, with the goal of deterring digging. Knotted, 2"x2", 12 ga, or vinyl coated options are available, but are all more expensive and don't seem necessary. This gets us 54" (4'6") of dog-proof wire, for a FAR lower cost than chain link. Do I need 12 gauge? It feels a lot sturdier, but I'll have rails every 12" or so, and lots of staples to hold it in...
Rails: Plain wire looks like it belongs on a farm, not in a residential area, so we want to pretty it up a bit with rails. We won't have horses leaning up against it, but kids (or - cringe - dogs) may climb it. The posts are expensive, so longer rails let us use fewer posts, but longer rails are slightly more per foot and definitely support less weight over the span. Can I run a 6" x 5/4 pressure treated rail over 12'? My local Menards has their "extra thick" 1 5/32" instead of regular 1" on sale for $5.88 each instead of the usual $8.30, and I'd need like 100 of these for the 400' of fence. Do I need 2x6 instead for 12'? Or should I get 8' or 10' (the 10' is also on sale for $4.90, which comes out to the same price, plus an extra 7 posts), or 1x8? Or should I use a synthetic product, or cedar? Do I need to use a sealer, or is regular pressure treated lumber OK? This is the part that I'm least confident about.
Posts: The frost line is 42" down, and our fence is 54" high, so 8' posts should just barely reach the required depth and height. Not much room for error! To affix the rails, we'll want square posts, and pressure-treated ground-contact 4x4s are an effective solution. Menards has these for $8.96 each: http://www.menards.com/main/p-2740389.htm. I think I'll need something larger and maybe longer for the corner braces, but the 6x6s are SO expensive..maybe just set the whole thing in concrete at the corners?
Setting posts: I understand that setting the posts in completely in concrete can cause them to rot, and makes them nearly impossible to remove. However, not setting them in concrete can let them lean. I was thinking of using 1" crushed stone so they can drain, and maybe using a cap of 4" of concrete near the top of the hole. Good idea? Bad idea? Also, I think I need a power auger. I can rent a two-man 8" auger for $60/day. Or I can borrow a post-hole digger. I know which one I'm leaning towards. How well do these deal with roots?
Post caps: This is an optional one, but while I don't want to spring for pre-routed posts, I wouldn't mind taking my circular saw at an angle to make a nice, water-shedding pyramid. The wife is interested in LED solar lights like this: http://www.lowes.com/pd_82173-67197-142270_1z0weel__?productId=3592402 Do these provide enough illumination to see the path near the fence walking out to the fire pit or letting the dog out at night, or should I run low-voltage wire to other lights?
Wood treatment: Two things to treat - first, I was considering soaking the bottom half of the posts in a wood preservative. One gallon treats 150 square feet, and 4' of 3.5" sides would do about 33 posts. Is this helpful for extending the life of my buried posts? Second, I am considering treating the rails with a sealer like a Sikkens SRD to make them look better and last longer. Is it going to look dumb to treat the rails but not the posts? The rails are above-ground rated, and feel fairly dry so they should accept stain well, while the posts at the lumberyards still feel wet from the extra preservative. Also, is it a good idea to treat the rails on sawhorses in the garage, or should I do them after installation?
That's a lot of items for feedback, so don't feel like you have to answer everything. I promise to provide pictures when it's done! For now, here's a sketch of the property:
