2024.06.09 17:31 SourPatchKid33 What to cook for a man for the 1st time?

If you were coming over to a woman’s home, and she had food what would you want to eat? What are your favorite home cooked meals?
I’m a pretty good cook.
This man I’ve been talking to for 5 months is coming over. He always says my food looks so good and I want to impress him with something but I don’t wanna ask him and make him feel like I’m about to cook for him…even though I am in a way💀 He doesn’t have any special diet needs, allergies or dislikes, I mean he does but he likes red meat and stuff mainly. Not like fish or gluten free dishes or salads.

2024.06.09 16:06 Cardbox_Toad Homebrew Pauper deck: Train affinity.

Homebrew Pauper deck: Train affinity.
So, I made a Vehicle Deck for pauper... and incredibly, it worked. Played it on a local tourney, won 2 out of my 3 games, and the game I lost was ironically against a deck my deck was well prepared to handle...
I just got nervous and played like absolute trash.
Here is the list: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/GCCLX2wVG0eEusHQoXZ-OA
The star of the deck is [[Renegade freighter]], that's why I would like to call the deck "train affinity".
https://preview.redd.it/5h5mgmmgzj5d1.jpg?width=393&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5cad3320cdd77724e6f86865d2390aa7ef7051cb
Background: I love cards that are different and can be clustered into small group, which is why I have all the Sagas that are playable in pauper, as well other things such as the familiar cycle. But Vehicles, being an arguably inviable mechanic always caught my eyes. Got them all as soon as I could, and always dreamt of making a deck with cards like [[Nezumi Road Captain]] or [[Kitsune Ace]].
Then one day while looking at old cards, [[Cinder Wall]] opened my eyes. One easy way to enable vehicles is by having strong creatures that can not attack but can Crew a Vehicle. My mind instantly went to [[Rotten Reunion]], a card which has strong utility against GY setup and is fairly efficient for it's cost. (one 2/2 creature for 1 CMC, then another 2/2 creature for 2 CMC) Given that red is capable of dishing a lot of damage fast (which works well with strong vehicles attacking early for 3/6 damage each turn) and black is able to draw a lot of cards (neccessary for a deck that needs to play Vehicles AND creatures), the identity of the deck was born: an Aggro Rakdos (B/R) deck.
Since the deck wanted to be aggressive, the idea was to keep ourselves on the low end of the vehicles mana-curve: motorcycle, trains and helicopters, no giant mechs. (sorry [[Thundersteel Colossus]]) These low cost Vehicles could also help get [[Galvanic Blast]] online, which is fantastic aggro card. But that also means that extra artifacts can help, which is where affinity comes into play: [[Frogmite]] works suprisingly well with low-curve Vehicles and artifact lands! Another free 2/2 that can crew our stuff.
Sadly, the vehicles were going to be an easy picking for pretty much any removal spell in the format (including both creature AND artifact removal), so the next idea was to find uses for the vehicles before they got derailed. Protection is not Red's or Black's forte, and while cards like [[Undying Evil]] or [[Offer Immortality]] exist, none of them looked particularly great to me. Instead, we can accept the inevitability of card destruction and try to gain advantage with the bodies we have: [[Deadly Dispute]] for extra card draw, [[Annihilating Glare]] for removal and [[Fling]] for extra face damage. Let me tell you, few things are more satisfying than flinging a [[Renegade freighter]] that has already dealt piercing damage for extra 5 points of damage!
Finally, thinking of taking advantage of all the self-sacrifices the deck was going to have, I wanted to include some "mind control" options to use my opponents creatures against them. Something akin to [[Bloody betrayal]], which also generates an artifact token. Also, the card [[The Shattered States Era]] looked particularly tempting to me. However, thanks to [this list over here] (thanks u/Lord_Rewex) I realised that [[Tenative Connection]] filled the role like a globe. The deck already runs [[nezumi Road Captain]], which gives us options with menace. Combined with the fact that the deck is hungry for artifacts, [[Goldhound]] is the perfect filler: cheap agro-oriented artifact with menace. May not sound like a lot, but that menace can give you 1 or 2 free hits, and force the opponent to make awkward defender choices.
The list:
Creatures (9): Frogmite x 4, Goldhound x 3, Cinder wall x 2
Vehicles (7): Renegade Freighter x 4, Flywheel Racer x 2, Sky Skiff x 1
Artifacts (4): Experimental Synthesizer x 3, Barbed Batterfist x 1
Sorcery (5): Tentative Connection x 2. Okiba Reckoner Raid//Nezumi Road Captain x 2. Annihilating Glare x 1
Instant (17): Lightning Bolt x 4, Galvanic Blast x 4, Rotten Reunion x 3. Deadly Dispute x 4. Fling x 2
Lands (18): Jagged Barrens x 4, Vault of Whispers x 4. Great Furnace x 4. Mountain x 4. Swamp x 2
Sidedeck: Flaring Pain x 2, Cast Down x 2, Breath Weapon x 2, Red Elemental Blast x 2, Gorilla Shaman x 1, Tentative Connection x 1, Reaping The Graves x 1, Relic of Progenitus x 1, Cast into the fire x 1, Makeshift Munitions x 1, Deface x 1
Conclusion:
The deck is clearly not perfect, and there might be some things to fine tune:
* Bridges? I think they might be too slow, and the ping for the crime-lines is not to be under-rated. 1 or 2 damage with this deck is usually game defining.
* Not sure about [[Experimental Synth]]. The deck has a few 3 mana cost cards which completely back-fire when drawn. [[Ichor Wellspring]] might be a better solution. (maybe)
* [[Kuldotha Rebirth]] MIGHT be a viable card. 3 tokens that can crew your vehicles or go face is not something to be scoffed at.
* [[Arada Express]] is another train with menace and a crew cost the deck can easily fulfill with zombies, frogmites and even other cards. There is anti-synergy with [[Nezumi Road Captain]], but it might still be worth it.
But all and all, I really liked it. No idea how this is going to fare in a post horizon-3 world, but I just hope I can keep polishing this idea further.

2024.06.09 15:20 Live-Needleworker-60 The Deer and the Dragon by Piper CJ rant review

I'm gonna be real: I hated this. There were interesting concepts, and had they been utilized differently and written by literally anyone else, it could've been an actual good book.
writing. The writing in The Deer and the Dragon is miles better than in The Night and its Moon. It's still not good, but it's better if that tells you anything. The first-person POV mixed with modern-day speak works so much better for Piper's capabilities. It was much easier to get through, but it was still a huge slog for me. Honestly, what are the editors at Bloom even doing? There were still way too many typos and sentences with missing words. Piper still misuses the word dredges after using it in THREE(+?) BOOKS. HOW DO YOU STILL NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DREDGES AND DREGS? Dregs are the sediment of a liquid, so what's at the bottom of your coffee cup. Dredge is when they scoop up mud from the bottom of a river. TWO VERY DIFFERENT THINGS. The word broach is also misused in this book TWELVE times, and it's PART OF THE CENTRAL PLOT OF THE BOOK. You mean to use BROOCH, PIPER. They're pronounced the same, but they mean two different things. Again, what the hell are the editors at Bloom doing?
characters Really, the only character I can talk about is Marlow because this book is just about Marlow and how amazing, special, perfect, and genius Marlow is. I fucking hate Marlow. If I ever met Marlow in real life, I would beat her up. Marlow is the most unlikable person ever. The story opens up with her on a date with a guy she's not interested in and can't remember his name; when she gets it wrong, and he corrects her, she continues to call him the wrong name all the way to the end of the book. She mentally berates him for mixing wasabi and soy sauce and cannot let it go. She’s also an AWFUL friend. It seems like her friend's only real purpose is to support her and tell her how amazing she is. She never bothers to make plans with them or inform them about anything that’s happening in her life. When she goes missing for a good chunk of the book, and they're blowing up her phone worried about her, she doesn't even bother to call them to calm them down. She doesn't think about them at all. She's far more concerned with herself and finding her imaginary boyfriend, who she only just decided was real. Her editor tells her she's at risk of losing her job if Marlow doesn't deliver her work or update her on what's happening, and Marlow just...doesn't care. She's like, 'No excuse I can give will be enough, so I'm just not going to say anything at all because I'm afraid of confrontation'. Grow the fuck up?? Her friend Nia only became her friend because she obsessively messaged her on social media until Marlow 'gave in', and now they're family? Somehow? Yet Marlow doesn't think about Nia once or bothers to comfort her when Nia has to call Marlow's abusive mom to ensure Marlow isn't dead. Kirby has allegedly been Marlow's friend since childhood, but does Kirby know anything about Caliban at all? Does Nia? Does Marlow tell her friends anything? If they know about the abuse her mom put her through, do they know how that abuse started? When Fauna shows up and freaks out over liking Kirby’s name so much, Marlow takes it upon herself to tell Fauna the story of Kirby’s name, scornfully informing Fauna that Kirby isn’t their real name the second Fauna expresses interest in it. (Like what, are you jealous that Fauna likes Kirby’s name, you fucking insecure freak??) The story revolves solely around something traumatic that happened to Marlow and how she and Kirby sat and played Super Smash Bros. Kirby liked their character so much that they adopted the name. Which…okay, choosing the name because you liked a video game character, okay, fine. But the whole story preceding this was so unnecessary and just made Marlow come off as suuuuch a whiny baby. “Oh, you want to know about my friend’s name? Well, first, let me preface it with this long woe-is-me story all about ME before I tell you how they chose their name because basically everything revolves around me.”
The way Marlow talks about rejection is so juvenile. You're in your thirties girls, get over it. Life is full of rejections. Someone telling you they didn't to play with you when you were eight years old isn't something you should form your whole life around. Like Marlow doesn't want kids because she doesn't want them to face rejection. Oh my god, Marlow. I also can't empathize with her trauma with her mom at all because I feel like I didn't really see much of it. I'm sure some of the things she says might hit with other people, but I wanted an actual flashback of a super intense fight or conversation instead of an overview of what happened.
plot. It took a while to get to the actual plot. About 100 pages in before things start really happening. I would’ve liked a little more exposition on Marlow’s relationship with Caliban at the beginning of the book. I get that some of the reveals needed to come more towards the end, but I kind of wish that maybe the fox had spoken to Marlow, too, which would’ve helped with why she’s so sure she’s insane. Foxes don’t talk! In all honesty, I wish this story had been restructured entirely. I think it would've been substantially better if we'd started out in Marlow's childhood. We can see how her day to day life was before Caliban ever appeared, how things were with her mom, who can also see through the veil. Maybe she notices some strange things about her mom that she just brushes off, which she later sees in herself and understands why her mom responded that way. Then something actually traumatic happens instead of some little kids not letting Marlow play with them, instigating her starting to see Caliban. I also would've liked to see flashbacks to Marlow's previous lives. While she's busy trying to convince herself Caliban isn't real, those flashbacks would add to her thinking she's losing her grip on reality. Maybe she'll be doing something innocent, like washing the dishes, and then suddenly, she sees herself standing in the middle of a raging battle, wearing long, elaborate robes. Do you see what I'm saying? This could've been cool! Instead, I had to read about Marlow jerking off about herself for 600 pages.
At some point, Caliban shows up to Marlow looking like a human. She's a teenager at this point, but they eventually start sleeping together, and like...idk something about that feels icky to me. It feels like grooming. Because he's clearly thousands of years old, he probably stays the same age while she's a teenager. What age did he wait for her to turn before their relationship turned sexual? Also, she doesn't even think he's real, and he does nothing to convince her that he is. Yeah....just no thanks. I'm good. Marlow tells Caliban when she's 21, she doesn’t want to see him anymore, so she literally physically cannot see him, but she can hear and feel him, and he still shows up, and like they keep having sex. So she’s just having sex with her imaginary demon friend for like five years before she’s finally like, all right, this is weird; maybe we should stop. And then she immediately regrets that when he stops showing up and then the rest of the book finally happens.
We also get flashbacks to when Marlow first starts escorting, and tbh, I hated this depiction of sex work. I keep hoping since Piper claims to be an advocate for sex work and is a former SWer that, we might get some actual depth to this plot. Maybe learn how Marlow was able to mold herself into the person she needed to be for each client, how she’s able to play people, etc. But no. She meets some random girl in a foreign country where she’s teaching English to children, and the girl is like, OMG, you’re too pretty to BE A TEACHER. COME HANG OUT ON MY YACHT. Now, I’m going to be so real. I feel like any woman with a speck of intelligence in their brain would have red flags going off right about now. If a random woman I met in a foreign country invited me to her yacht five minutes after meeting me, I’d immediately assume this woman was about to try and murder me or kidnap me or traffick me or something. But not Marlow. She is like fuck it, why not. She flies on over to wherever this yacht is(literally, she has to get on a plane and fly there) and makes some new besties who introduce her to the wonderfully glamorous non-dangerous life of escorting, where they hand her clients and set up the appointments for her and blah blah blah(also, wanna point out that Marlow even tries to say that she built this sex work empire herself. bitch no you didn't. it was all handed to you). I don’t feel like I really need to go further about why this is a really poor, dangerous rose-colored glasses-type depiction of sex work. It’s just not the reality.
Flash forward five years later, and Marlow is now a top-selling author writing about South African folklore as a white woman, trying to date other men, still having sex with her imaginary friend, calling her nonbinary friend a horse girl, the usual. Her escort pals are nowhere to be seen, and we have no clue what happened to them. We never hear from them again; they just vanish once Marlow gets what she wants from them, just like Nia and Kirby vanish once Marlow finds Fauna and Azrames. One day, Marlow’s at a book signing and sees the ONE bad client she had(because in all the years/months fucking strange men you meet in a foreign country, only one time does it go bad. okay, sure) He somehow finds where she lives, breaks into her home, and tries to murder her. An angel shows up and murders him instead, and then Caliban finally reveals his face and explains to Marlow that he has marked everyone who’s ever wronged her. (Wronged her in what way, tho. Like if someone accidentally shoulder-checked her on the street, are they now marked for death?) I thought it was kind of weird that she’s not like…focused on the fact that her hallucinations have extended to two people and another person dying. She’s still convinced Caliban is a figment of her imagination even after she sees this happen, and Caliban explains to her that he couldn’t save her because there’s some type of contract with her that forbids him from doing anything under her roof without her permission. But she still gets mad and banishes him, and now he can’t come back, and now she’s like, but wait, no, I didn’t mean it. Thus begins the search for Caliban.
Now, I could sit here and outline the rest of the book, but I won't because it's so boring, and nothing of substance really happens. So, to summarize. Marlow searches for Caliban fruitlessly for months and finally makes some progress when she decides to go to the house of the guy who tried to kill her and finds a parasitic entity that she continuously calls a Cheshire Cat. then Silas, the angel, shows up to save her again. Silas maybe wants to fuck Marlow, I can't tell. He waffles between abandoning Marlow to die and stalking her and her mom to force Marlow to bond with him for no seeming reason at all. Everyone and their mom wants Marlow to join their religion, and I don't know what the fuck makes her so special. Marlow is such a popular author that everyone recognizes her name, reveres her, fawns over her, and has multiple copies of her two books in their offices. She's so good that she inspired millions to switch religions. This book was so exhausting to read because it was just about how amazing Marlow is LMFAO. I'm pretty sure they even try to say she's the reincarnation of Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the world. Like....wow.
Marlow goes to Hell with Fauna to escape bonding with Silas, where they meet a literal stolen character design. this guy
(my original review has these images but I am an idiot and don't know how to post them so instead I'll share the links)
https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/hostedimages/1717860981i/35597445._SY540_.jpg
Don't believe me? here's the commissioned character art.
https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/hostedimages/1717860929i/35597423._SY540_.jpg
Anyway, his name is Azrames and he and Fauna are long time lovers and they go and bone while Marlow is in the next room and Marlow fucking masturbates to the sounds of them boning. So...I was forced to read about that, and I hated it. And then, at the end of the book, five chapters before it's over, we learn the bad guy who's been holding Caliban captive the entire time is a fertility goddess. Just out of nowhere. No mention of it previously. So, no one tells Marlow the actual plan, and instead, they send her into this fertility clinic the goddess is working out of and have her pretend to want to get pregnant. So the goddess drugs her without her consent and puts her in a room full of half-naked men, hot stereotypes from every ethnicity, while she's SUPER horny. One of the doctors tells her that 'mixed babies are all the rage right now'. The men all tell her how hot and amazing she is and how lucky they are for the chance to get to fuck her. Then after she chooses one of them, she grinds all over him while he just stands there, then they take him out and bring Caliban in and decide he'll fuck her instead. I just wanna point out that this, all of this, would be rape. Marlow didn't consent to being drugged, and if she didn't know who Caliban was, they basically just took the guy she "agreed" to have sex with away and brought in one she didn't agree to for no reason whatsoever. It doesn't matter that she's saying yes to it; she is drugged. She can't consent. Anyway, Caliban sticks his dick in Marlow and just leaves it there, unmoving, and then makes out with the fertility goddess before stabbing her in the heart and cutting off her head, even though five chapters earlier, they said it's super hard to kill a god. I'm just...wow.
Marlow gets taken back to Fauna's apartment by Silas while Caliban and Azrames are stuck fighting more Cheshire Cat demon children that I imagine look like the spider baby from Toy Story. Marlow is still high, so she's putting the moves on Fauna. She's kissing her throat, rubbing her thigh, trying to suck on her fingers. Let me tell you rn, if one of my friends showed up at my place high af doing this shit to me, I'd be livid. Because I guarantee you, Marlow will not apologize for doing any of this to Fauna.
Fauna tells Marlow that they can be sunflowers. The book ends.
I will read the next one because I like to suffer, but...I hated this. I give it 2 stars because the writing is better than TNAIM, but it was not a hit for me at all.

2024.06.09 15:02 resetplz Why is IBS so totally unpredictable?

If I eat a ripe banana in the afternoon, I'll have bloating and gas for 2 hours. If I have one in the morning, I'm fine.
If I eat cooked onions or peppers, it's a 24-hour gastrointestinal death sentence. But raw onions are A-OK. (Raw peppers are not)
Broccoli: good. Broccoli stems: bad.
The other day I ordered a dish at an Asian fusion restaurant. It came piled high with brussels sprouts, onions, peppers, garlic, and spicy sauce. Everything about that dish was a giant red flag telling me NO. I didn't even have my enzyme supplement with me that day...but I was with a friend so I just dove in, expecting to have to run home to the bathroom followed by 12 hours of discomfort. And what happened? No-thing. Nada, zilch. I got home in 20 minutes, popped an enzyme supplement and a couple of Beanos and sailed through the day as if I had just had a glass of water.
I don't get it. Yeah, I know all about FODMAP stacking but, given how many food intolerances I've developed, the unpredictability of the condition is just so completely puzzling.

2024.06.09 14:56 Paladinspector Rat Poison: A theory

This morning, as I sat here scrolling through New, while my kid watches Spider-man drinking coffee, something caught my ear.
"It's poisonous." And somewhere in my half-booted Amiga 64 between my ears, the gears began to turn.
A few apes have mentioned the possibility that the 'dilution' was the triggering of a poison pill clause to prevent a hostile takeover.
Just like Red Lobster and god knows how many companies between 2000-Present, The possibility exists that the maximum profit exists for a collaborating series of bad actors to acquire a Long position in the company, install rats, and kill the Transformation of our Company into something incredible.
Several funds were shorting the fuck out of Gamestop at pre-split prices of $1.20, or even less. Gamestop was on life support before Cohen came in, swept up a huge stake, and started breathing new life into it. Which means those funds, if they haven't already realized their losses, are sitting on Shorts at the 0.30 cent range, meaning their losses are FUCKING THEM on their balance sheets.
They have no recourse but to try to collaborate with each other in Backroom deals to try to install a toxic Board member to inhibit, fuck things up, and buy them time, or find a way to gain insider information (we know they're not above it.) to trade against us, manipulate the scenario, and come out ahead.
Ever since 2008 we've known hedgies are corporate pirates, destroying livelihoods to line their own pockets. I would not put such a scenario past them.
How does this translate into what we've seen?
The two run ups that were 'Killed' (I say this with tongue-in-cheek, because I believe that Ryan Cohen is Not a Doofus, and is not diluting the share pool for literally no reason other than a banal capital raise.) I believe the massive volume was an attempt by Short hedge funds, or bad-actor collaborators to flip to a long position, in order to infiltrate the Silo.
The Gamestop board and the Corporate C-suite have been mum and cryptic about things so as not to show their cards, throw their dick on the table, and give them information they can use to spin/FUD/trade against and manipulate sentiment and the thesis.
The run ups we've seen haven't been shorts covering, as evidenced by Short Volume. It hasn't been Retail, because we got some powder, but we don't have 200 million dollars in a random mid-week trading day to move the Market. It's not RK, because he's just one man who can't manipulate a whole ass stonk.
We just watched a Silo Breach in progress get shut down by Ryan Cohen sitting on the porch with a shotgun plinking these fucking varmints off. Cohen and the board are keeping the foxes out of the Henhouse. He is acting in the interests of protecting the company, and it's transformation into the Amazon of Tech, and looting the corpses for extra run-way money for their fucking trouble.
I'm as bullish as I've ever been on how serious RCEO is on making this company amazing, and his commitment to protecting their efforts, our investment, and the vision for Gamestop of the Future.
Game on, Apes. I'm fucking jacked.

2024.06.09 14:48 NoSelection3947 Doctor Won’t write a note for accommodations.

Hi everyone, I’m not sure what to do at work. Has anyone dealt with this before?
Long story short, I work at a Pit facility and was taken off for 3 weeks because I was entering a wide aisle and a pallet hit my cage and threw me off the wire guidance. My facility has the LiDar, and RTLS system installed on the pits already. When I entered the wide aisle, I wasn’t going fast, and had eyes on path, I was able to pass by the incorrectly stowed pallet just up until my cage hit it and that’s when it threw me off the wire guidance. Some of the stuff on the pallet caught most of the items so not everything fell onto the floor. Right when that happened, I stopped and called for help on my scanner. Safety, AMs, and PA’s all agree it wasn’t my fault the pallet was stowed incorrectly. There was a whole investigation on it so I was not able to drive pit for 3 weeks and was working in pack.
This is my 3rd pit accident and when I was called for my retrain, I expressed to the learning trainer I’m not comfortable driving pit anymore because that accident caused me a lot of anxiety cause I was doing everything right, eyes on path and wearing correct PPE. The trainer said I can get a doctor’s note saying that my height caused me to get into these pit accidents bc I’m 4’9. (Yes I know i’m short) I do struggle to reach to answer the questions to login in the pit sometimes, but I never really thought about it. The trainer told me that’s usually one of the red flags that a person isn’t suitable for that process path, but then again they don’t discriminate on who can and who can’t drive the pit.
HR already knows about my case, and I was told I would be moved to the pack department since I’ve already been there and is only packed trained other than pit.
I messaged both my doctors expressing my concerns, about this is my 3rd accident, my struggle to reach the telemetry and ability to see while operating (I over extend and really have to look around me during stops and operation in general), and my anxiety going back to pit bc I was really startled when I was thrown off the wire guidance. However both of them refuse to write me a note for the accommodation. So I’m not sure what to do!! I never did the retrain for pit because the learned trainer says he can’t force me to do something I don’t feel comfortable doing. Ive been getting sent to pack everyday since I haven’t been retrained on pit. (Which I’m fine with bc i’ve grown to like pack)
I have screenshots of the doctor telling me being short (4’9) isn’t a underline medical condition, despite telling him I get bad body aches from over extending and over reaching, and the heavy harness I have to wear. 😭 All they tell me is to take it with HR and apply for workers comp, and join a union. But I don’t think I need workers comp for something that can be easily accommodated!
Anyone know what I should do?? Thanks for reading my long dilemma LOL. TIA!!

2024.06.09 14:29 itusedtobebetter21 Husband refusing to turn off inappropriate movie

Hello. This morning my husband was watching Red Heat with Arnold, which is rated R. I’ve never seen this movie before, he has already watched it multiple times in his life. My 4-year-old woke up and there was a scene where a train is hitting a car, a bunch of violence like shooting, bloody faces, swearing. I asked my husband to turn it off, he said he wouldn’t, he’s going to finish the movie. My 4-year-old started to cry and asked to turn it off several times. I told my husband if he needs to finish it, go into our bedroom, he said no. More crying from my child and my husband kept insisting that he just wants it put on his cartoons or whatever. I held my ground again told him to turn it off and he finally turned the TV off. My 4-year-old kept talking about the scenes he saw and acting them out, I told my husband this, his answer was that it wasn’t that big of a deal and it isn’t going to scar him for life. To me this whole situation is a big deal because my husband was disrespectful to me and my son. He seems to not feel this way.
ETA: It was the morning and both the 4 year old and 2 year old (in his high chair) were eating breakfast in this room while I was doing dishes. We have an open floor plan where the kitchen/dining/living area are all open so he could see it from each of these rooms unfortunately.

2024.06.09 13:30 Imjustagirlr I (17f) wish my cousin (23f) never existed.

I (17f) have an older cousin (23f) who lives with us and is in her last year of college, the problems came 4-5 years ago, hell, it could 've been even longer.
Some backstory, I am the middle child of 5 children, our parents split when I was 10 and we moved from house to house and my mom was struggling so we moved into my grandmother's house, it's a big house, but not big enough that it's not hard to maintain. And I'm still living here until now, we can afford to pay majority of the bills for the house so we aren't living here rent free. We aren't the only ones living here though, we live with our cousin and their parents, I have a cousin in her last year of college, Tia.
Tia has a lot of issues with our grandmother (91f), our grandmother is really old and sick and my grandfather passed long ago. My grandmother has a habit of favoritism, this isn't really and issue for me because I don't really care if she favors someone or not just as long as I'm taking care of her and she's happy. However, my cousins take a lot of issue with this and argue a lot with her and they shout a lot (my grandma needs to shout sometimes because she can't hear very well.) These arguments happen everyday with Tia, I understand being annoyed at my grandmother because she's an old woman but it's become worse to the point where my older cousin will make fun of her for not understanding.
(I used to defend her back then because I was stupid young and didn't really like my grandma, I regret this a lot because now my grandma means the world to me.)
Tia also takes a lot of issues doing chores, when, honestly, she has been doing nearly nothing. Not even cleaning her own room which f*cking stinks. Everytime she cleans is when something big is coming up, while me and my younger siblings have been cleaning everyday without complaining. Not even when she just walks all over our work or let's her pets around the house to make a mess. Yet, she has the audacity to complain about her parents asking her to help around the house too. Her reason is her school life is coming to an end, yet this is the same person who screamed at me for not sweeping the floors (because I wasn't able to rest well due to some school works,) and then proceeded to scream at me how I'm disrespectful and lazy. This does not happen only to me but also to my 2 younger siblings, who I'm trying to lessen the burden off. I love my siblings so much and I'd hate for them to suffer so I wake up early and do majority of the chores so they could do the easy ones like the dishes or arranging beds.
Tia also likes taking stuff, Tia once took my little sister's (Ella) turtle neck and stretched it out so much that it became very loose and made it almost unusable, Ella told them to ask her whenever they borrow her stuff because she's really small compared to them. Aside from this Tia ruined my LV bag, One that I got as a gift, she left it uncleaned and dusty. I tried taking it back but everytime it would just end back I her room. Tia just doesn't seem to care for other's things at all and doesn't ask to borrow anything, even my skincare. If I bring this up she just gaslights me into thinking I did let her borrow.
Tia doesn't also stop there, back when I was close with her, I used to be so sad when she'd isolate and ignore me because I used to love sharing about my whole day and stuff I learnt with her. I didn't see the red flags then but this used to push me to a bad spot mentally, to the point where sometimes I'd have panic attacks or start thinking of self-injury because of how bad I felt for anything I did. I was and still am a pretty talkative person, and I'm happy that despite what she did I still love sharing the new things I learned with people.
I was able to conceal my feeling until about last week, where I blew up at Tia in front of the dinner table. It started with me cussing at her, then progressed to me staying everything I hated about her. My mother tried suppressing me and that just made me angrier, my other cousins tried to touch me but I told them to stay away. I had only managed to say half of thr stuff I felt towards Tia. After that my mom kept asking me to forgive Tia and give her a chance, but honestly writing this and remembering all of what Tia said is just infuriating. I don't want to forgive Tia at all, not after everything she did to me. I hate that my mom wants me to forgive, to open my heart up, to be patient, to blah blah blah. I don't ever want to forgive Tia, not after everything she does. This isn't the only time she's been scolded, it's happen so many times and I can't seem to understand why she can't just be punished for once. Why do I need to forgive such a horrible person?
I just want to know if I'm thinking wrong? or I'm missing something?? or if I'm the problem??? I hate when they say I'm mentally unwell, I know I bottle up things but is it really mentally unwell if I just know this person is horrible and manipulates everyone around her to pity her? Because "oh I didn't know.." when clearly she does!! She may not see herself in the mirror but she's an adult who has a brain and can process what she's doing!! I'm just tired of seeing this kind of cycle and I'm tired of living in this house.

2024.06.09 10:05 Shi144 Egotism vs Altruism

Dear Broadchurch fans, I have posted a series of rewatches of season 1 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broadchurch\_series\_1) of Broadchurch. Now I find it is time to review some of the prevalent themes within the series. Please be aware that I will discuss season 1 as a whole, so there may be spoilers ahead.
If you enjoy reading this essay, feel free to stop by my AnalysisVault to see if you find some more of my work to your liking. Please note that this subreddit is read only and comments should be made with the original posts rather than the cross-posted ones.

Egotism vs Altruism
One of the more prevalent themes in Broadchurch is the question of egotism vs altruism. I will give you a short overview of both concepts as well as the spectrum they represent, then speak about their implementation in the series and finally make a statement about why the makers chose to make it a central theme.

Wikipedia states:
Egotism is defined as the drive to maintain and enhance favorable views of oneself and generally features an inflated opinion of one's personal features and importance distinguished by a person's amplified vision of one's self and self-importance. It often includes intellectual, physical, social, and other overestimations. The egotist has an overwhelming sense of the centrality of the "me" regarding their personal qualities.
In essence, egotism is the personal philosophy of “me first”. A person with strong egotistical tendencies will make sure their own needs are met before those of others. Think, if you will, of the people who will take the best slice of cake for themselves or drive a gas guzzler out of convenience or cut the line at the airport to get the best seat. All of these are egotistical actions. On the other hand, some egotism is warranted for self-preservation. The parent who gives their all for their children but runs themself ragged in the process may need to exercise more egotism. The health care professional who routinely skips their break to care for never-ending patients may want to be more self-preserving by being more selfish. Things like that. In general, society views egotistic action and unfavorable while oftentime people with egotistical traits tend to be more successful in certain areas of life.

Altruism is the principle and practice of concern for the well-being and/or happiness of other humans or animals above oneself. While objects of altruistic concern vary, it is an important moral value in many cultures and religions. It may be considered a synonym of selflessness, the opposite of selfishness.
In essence, altruism is the personal philosophy of “others first”. A person with strong altruistic tendencies will make sure the needs of others are met before their own. Think, if you will, of the people who will hand out food to others happily but forget to get any of their own, take great strides to pick up trash in a local park or offer up their seat for a disabled person on the bus. All of these are altruistic actions. In general, society views altruism as beneficial and a trait to strive for while oftentimes people with altruistic traits tend to be less successful and may feel taken advantage of.

Basically, egotism vs altruism is the Captain Kirk vs Mr Spock discussion. Spock says: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”, goes into a highly irradiated engine room to save the Enterprise and dies in the process. Kirk says “The needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many” and risks war with the Klingons because he can’t live without his buddy.
However, every action has aspects of both in them. Each action every person takes has both egotistic and altruistic nuances to them. The interesting part is where the balance falls. I will let you decide for yourself which way the pendulum swings on the following examples.
Some examples:
The healthcare worker who overworks themselves acts in an altruistic way because they support patients and help them get better. But they are also egotistical in their own way because being “the supportive one” strokes their ego.
The person who drives the gas guzzler acts in an egotistic way because they pollute the environment unnecessarily, take up a lot of space with their vehicle and probably stink up the place with their fumes. But they might also have an altruistic aspect because they need to move large groups of people, feel they are supporting an industry that gives jobs to workers or even further the economy by spending money.
The person handing out food but not taking any for themselves can be very altruistic but depending on the person they can be very egotistic instead, for example when they decide to hog the table, demand ever-lasting gratitude for their “sacrifice” and/or post their actions on social media for clout.
Finally, a person who writes lengthy analyses and posts them on Reddit may appear altruistic because they attempt to enrich the lives of others with their observations and (hopefully) witty posts. They may also be egotistic in an attempt to garner attention and positive reinforcement through the community they choose to post in.

Implementation in the series:
One of the great things about the series is the fact that they are aware of the different sides of egotism and altruism and allow the viewer to form their own opinion. Hardly ever is anything said bluntly, most of the time we are left to figure out things of our own. We see the way the characters act, we see the way they interact and are interacted with and we are left to make our own decision. Hardly ever are things black and white, hardly ever are we given the one true answer ™.
This is one of the main reasons the series is as emotionally impactful as it is. Because life is messy. Life isn’t neat. Life isn’t simple. Stories with simple and clear answers are not realistic because life doesn’t work that way. Think about it. In the last decade or so there were a lot of shows and movies looking deeper into the question of fairy tale villains and whether they were villains at all. Star Wars does this masterfully by looking at Anakin Skywalker’s arch. He seems like a clear-cut villain in episode 4, the first to hit the screens, but as more of his story is revealed, he becomes much less cartoonishly evil.
In fact, the idea of egotism vs altruism is the driving factor in the various aspects of the investigation the detectives conduct. Look at the different suspects, if you will. All of them have (at the very least) some very egotistical behaviors. Steve Conelly, con man and maybe psychic is getting a feeling of importance when passing on his “messages” to the great expense of Beth Latimer, among others. Mark Latimer is so very much wrapped up in his selfishness he neglects just about everyone around him unless caring for them fulfills his needs. Nigel Carter engulfs himself with righteous anger against Jack Marshal, not for the community but seeking Mark’s approval. Paul Coates revels in the attention he and his church gain from the case. Susan Wright is so eager to protect herself, she harms others pre-emptively. Jack Marshal, the man who slept with a child, then married her. No 40-year-old man would do that for selfless reasons.
All of the suspects we are presented in the show are – in one way or the other – selfish. And that’s perfect. Murdering a child is an inherently selfish action. The true joy of the show comes with finding out that the murderer is a man who we are made to perceive as deeply selfless.
Let’s take a look at Joe Miller and how he is portrayed on the show. As I have stated in the various rewatch posts, most of the time Joe Miller is shown as loving, caring and genuinely supportive parent and partner. As u/Vioralarama stated so well in my post about episode 5, “He's got the plot armor of the supportive spouse who handles all the emotional work for the person working the crime.” On the surface, he does. Every time we see Joe Miller, he is seen with a member of his family. And every time he is seen he is doing some sort of supportive work for them.
Case in point, when Joe and DS Miller invite DI Hardy to their home for dinner, Joe does it all. Puts the kids to bed, prepares dinner, does the dishes. He tries to mediate between DI Hardy and DS Miller, too, and makes a great effort to lighten the mood.
Once you look below the surface, though, things look entirely different. We see glimpses here and there that things are not what they seem, mostly through things we DON’T see rather than the things to DO see.
Joe Miller shows some worrying signs of being a neglectful parent and partner quite early on in the show. To pick up the example of the dinner experience, when DS Miller leaves the room, Joe Miller uses the time he has alone with DI Hardy to probe him for information. If he truly were the supportive husband the show wants us to believe, he would’ve used that time to help both find common ground in their working relationship. DI Hardy is the one who brings that up and asks about whether DS Miller likes him. The conversation is cut short though as Joe Miller filled the narrow time slot with questions about the case and didn’t leave DI Hardy enough to ask about how to improve his working relationship with DS Miller. Case in point, DS Miller keeps complaining that DI Hardy addresses her as “DS Miller” instead of “Ellie”. This would have been a great talking point for Joe Miller in that moment, asking “why” and mediating between them. Also, did Joe Miller make a dinner invitation to help DS Miller and DI Hardy form a working relationship or did he do it to garnish information?
More examples:
When DS Miller and Joe Miller tell Tom Miller about Danny’s passing, both leave him alone in his bedroom. Neither offer a shoulder to cry on. Sure, DS Miller is just as responsible as Joe here but Joe is the stay-at-home parent and therefore the more direct caretaker than DS Miller. Also, over the course of the show we never see Joe actually engaging with Tom, there is no attempt at comforting him, not even when he is obviously distraught. Joe Miller lets Tom out of his sight at the Arcade in episode 5, right in the middle of the “pedophile panic” surrounding Jack Marshal. Just in general, Tom spends a LOT of time wandering the town alone. This image doesn’t sit well with the façade of caring, loving, altruistic father.
Indeed, the filmmakers are pulling one over our eyes with Joe, who turns out to be one of the most egotistic persons in the town. Joe spends time and family money on Danny, he breaks into a holiday hut to do so, manipulates the boy with abuser language and, when threatened to be deprived of his attention, gets so angry he strangles the boy. Whom he still believes to be his son’s best friend. And who is his best friend’s son. The same best friend he then begs for praise because he didn’t drop the body into the ocean so he didn’t have to spend years wondering what happened to the boy.
But why do the filmmakers do this? The series REVELS in red herrings, side plots, dead ends and misdirection. The greatest misdirection they can give us is showing us the “perfect” man and making him turn out to be the most terrible one of all. It’s an emotional gut punch and the type of storytelling that works really well with the type of story they want to convey. Because the story of Broadchurch is not about Danny’s murder, it’s about the fallout that follows. A community like this learning that one of their “best people” is indeed a child murderer has to have a terrible ripple course through it, upsetting it deeply.
With so many other characters filling the “egotism” bill, we are offered a view beyond the picturesque coastal town in Dorset, England, where things look perfect, harmonious and just lovely. The series revels in showing us this image and dissecting it piece by piece, looking deeper and deeper into the cesspool of secrets and bad decisions. As such, the viewer is given the change to observe the deep hurt inflicted upon the more altruistic characters – most of which happen to be women – by the egotistic characters – many of which happen to be men. It is the direct and even more terribly indirect hurt that is inflicted upon the altruistic ones that gives the story the emotional impact it has.
Case in point, Beth Latimer and DS Miller both are exploited by their husbands and end up not only dealing with the direct fallout of their respective actions but hurt to a point they cannot even rely on each other anymore. They are both stripped of the delusion of happiness and family being their haven. They are also both stripped of a friendship which could supply each with a friend who “gets it”. Heck, just for the fun of it the makers toss in Susan Wright, a woman who has been so terribly hurt by her husband that she became jaded enough to “join the other team”. She has become the egotistic abuser her husband was simply because she (probably) used to be altruistic. Her experience with her husband, the police and the loss of her kids have kicked her to the other side of egotism simply out of a deep need for self-preservation.
Before the question comes up, no, the series is not about men vs women, or men = bad, women = good. And neither is this post. There are egotistic women in the story, like Karen White, Susan Wright or Becca Fisher. There are altruistic men in the story, too, like DI Hardy. But the trend is quite distinct. In my own personal experience this comes from the general societal expectation that women should be altruistic and work for the group. An expectation that is not socialized as thoroughly in men. The show picks up on this and showcases it to great effect, placing a great emphasis on the price some women are made to pay for following this expectation.
Finally, the question of egotism vs altruism is a thinking point the viewer is left to ponder with beyond the end credits of the last episode. The discussion of who is what and how much can keep the viewer’s mind busy for some time. Several people on this sub posted they hated Mark Latimer’s selfishness, and many commenters agree. If you ask me, this is a great result for a series, making the viewers contemplate things such as this beyond the actual viewing experience.

I recently tried the Elrene Home Fashions Vintage Floral Water-Resistant Vinyl Tablecloth and let me tell you, it's definitely a statement piece. Its sunflower design with monarch butterflies creates a vibrant and inviting atmosphere, making it perfect for a birthday party or a family picnic.
What stood out to me was the flannel backing, which not only provides extra durability but also helps to keep the cloth in place. It's designed to withstand repeated use, so I've had it out for several events with no signs of wear.
The thick vinyl material is a perk, as it adds a premium touch to the tablecloth. However, it could be a bit of a hassle to clean, as it requires a damp cloth or sponge to remove any stains or spills. While it's resistant to water and stains, it might need a little extra attention to maintain its pristine look.
Overall, the tablecloth is a unique and stylish addition to any dining table. It adds a festive ambiance to any event, and the extra durability of the vinyl material is an added bonus.

🔗Elegant Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth for IndooOutdoor Use - Modern Oval Shape, Seats 6-8

As a fervent enthusiast of hosting gatherings, this Lintex Cafe Hotel Linen Look Solid Colour Heavy 4 Gauge Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth has been an essential addition to my arsenal of entertainment essentials. Initially, the oval shape of the tablecloth seemed a tad eccentric, but it has proven to be a perfect fit for hosting dinner parties, especially when seating 6-8 individuals comfortably.
The thick lofty polyester flannel backing is not just aesthetically pleasing, but also provides a barrier against spills, stains, and accidental damages. It's a welcome relief from constantly replacing cloth tablecloths or fussing over stain removal. The 4 gauge heavy vinyl flannel backing also adds a protective waterproof layer, which is an added bonus for outdoor use or areas prone to accidental spills.
One of the features that stand out is the easy-to-clean surface. I often dread the cleanup phase at the end of my dinner parties, but with the Lintex tablecloth, I can simply wipe it down with a damp cloth. The sewn edges also contribute to a polished look and further protect the tablecloth from wear and tear.
However, the thickness of the tablecloth means it is a bit more cumbersome to fold when not in use, and it occupies more storage space than one might anticipate.
Overall, the Lintex Cafe Hotel Linen Look Solid Colour Heavy 4 Gauge Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth has become an indispensable part of my entertaining life. Its durability, resistance to stains, and easy cleaning make it a worthwhile investment for anyone who enjoys hosting guests, whether indoors or outdoors.

🔗Grapevines Hotel Quality Flannel Back Vinyl Tablecloth (Taupe) - Sizes 52" to 70

I recently had the pleasure of using the Grapevines Taupe Contemporary Grape Print Heavy 4 Gauge Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth during a dinner party at home. The vibrant grape print on the textured surface added a touch of elegance to our table, complementing the decor beautifully.
One of the standout features of this tablecloth was its ability to withstand spills and water. A glass of red wine accidentally tipped over, but the tablecloth handled it like a pro, leaving no stains behind. The heavy 4-gauge vinyl and polyester flannel backing proved to be perfect for both indoor and outdoor use.
However, I also noticed that the tablecloth seemed to have several creases upon arrival, which was a bit disappointing. It took some effort to iron them out, but once done, the tablecloth looked fantastic and blended seamlessly with the decor.
Overall, the Grapevines Taupe Contemporary Grape Print Heavy 4 Gauge Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth is a great addition to any dinner setting. Its durability, stain and water resistance, and versatile use make it a reliable choice for various occasions. Just remember to iron out those initial creases, and you'll have a beautiful and functional tablecloth that will serve you well.

Several months ago, I had a busy summer party to prepare for, and I knew I needed a stylish yet functional tablecloth to make my table the centerpiece of the event. That's when I discovered the Sand Dollar Ikat Style Print Flannel Backed Vinyl Tablecloth by Newbridge. The moment I unrolled it, I was impressed by the striking Ikat-inspired print with a textural touch reminiscent of sand dollars. Not only was it visually appealing, but it also offered a layer of protection from potential spills and stains.
One of my favorite features was the flannel backing, which provided a non-slip surface that kept the tablecloth securely in place. Additionally, the waterproof top layer was a lifesaver during my outdoor barbeque, as it ensured my table remained clean and dry despite the rain. I appreciated that the tablecloth was easy to fold and store when not in use, making it a convenient addition to my summer party essentials. The only downside was that it could have used a bit more color variety beyond the two options provided.
Overall, the Sand Dollar Ikat Style Print Flannel Backed Vinyl Tablecloth by Newbridge exceeded my expectations during my summer party, and I eagerly anticipate using it for future events. It's a must-have for anyone looking to elevate their table's style while also ensuring practicality and protection.

🔗Newbridge Woodland Critters Vinyl Flannel-Backed Tablecloth: Autumn Season Design

Over the past few weeks, I've been using the Newbridge Woodland Critters Vinyl Tablecloth with Flannel Backing. Sized at 52 inches square, it's perfect for tables that seat four people and can fit comfortably between 28 and 40 inches. I must say, the design is absolutely whimsical! Teal green is a great base color for this tablecloth, and the beautiful allover print of squirrels with acorns, majestic deer, and owls adds an elegant yet playful touch.
The flannel backing is both aesthetically pleasing and practical. It helps prevent slippage and skidding, ensuring the tablecloth stays in place. Moreover, it's really easy to maintain; just give it a quick wipe with a damp cloth, and it's as good as new! No need to toss it in the washing machine, just make sure to use mild soap and a damp cloth or sponge on the vinyl surface. This tablecloth is truly versatile and can be used for various occasions, from casual picnics to elegant Thanksgiving dinners. Whether indoors or outdoors, for home or commercial use, the Newbridge Woodland Critters Vinyl Tablecloth is a must-have.

As a tablecloth enthusiast, I was excited to try out the Newbridge Grapevine Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth. The vibrant allover grape design caught my eye, and I knew it would make a great addition to my collection. The tablecloth is made of premium gauge vinyl with a soft polyester flannel backing, making it a perfect choice for both home and commercial settings.
One of the standout features of this tablecloth is its easy-care nature. The vinyl surface can be wiped clean with a damp cloth or sponge, while the flannel backing reduces skidding and slipping on most surfaces. The sewn edges and pleated corners add a touch of elegance, making it a great choice for indoor and outdoor entertaining.
However, there were a few drawbacks to this tablecloth. Firstly, it was slightly shorter than expected, leaving only a small amount of excess material to hang at the sides of the table. Additionally, one user reported that the colors faded quickly, which was unexpected for a product marketed for outdoor use.
Overall, the Newbridge Grapevine Vinyl Flannel Backed Tablecloth is a vibrant and practical choice for those looking to add a pop of color to their table settings. While it may not be perfect, it certainly has its pros and cons, making it a decent investment for both home and commercial use.

🔗Pre-Owned Blue & White Checked Vinyl Flannel Tablecloth

https://preview.redd.it/a7lqbgcjmh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f63630251937456c28215e2fb4b09ff330870edb
I recently came across this pre-owned tablecloth, still in its original package. It's a 52" x 52" square design with a blue and white checked pattern featuring adorable bears and flowers. The flannel-backed vinyl makes it both comfortable and durable.
While I appreciate the eye-catching pattern, I found the sizing to be a bit limiting, only fitting tables up to 40" x 40". Overall, it's a unique and stylish addition to any dining table, but the limited size may not be the best fit for larger tables.

FAQ

What are the benefits of using a flannel backed vinyl tablecloth?

Flannel backed vinyl tablecloths offer a range of benefits such as heat retention, durability, ease of cleaning, and style. The flannel backing helps to keep table contents warm, making it perfect for serving hot dishes. The vinyl material is durable and resistant to stains, which makes it easy to clean. How do I clean a flannel backed vinyl tablecloth?

Cleaning a flannel backed vinyl tablecloth is simple. If it is machine washable, follow the care label instructions. For hand washing, fill a sink or basin with warm water and add a mild detergent. Gently agitate the tablecloth and let it soak for a few minutes. Rinse well with warm water and allow it to air dry or tumble dry on low heat. It is recommended to avoid using bleach or harsh cleaning agents as this can damage the vinyl material.

Are flannel backed vinyl tablecloths suitable for outdoor use?

While flannel backed vinyl tablecloths are not specifically designed for outdoor use, they can withstand some outdoor exposure. However, it is essential to protect the tablecloth from direct sunlight, harsh weather conditions, and excessive moisture. If you plan to use the tablecloth outdoors, choose a waterproof or UV-resistant version and store it properly when not in use.

What are the measurements of a standard flannel backed vinyl tablecloth?

The measurements of a standard flannel backed vinyl tablecloth typically range from 60 to 90 inches in width and from 118 to 144 inches in length. However, it is crucial to check the specific product details for accurate measurements, as tablecloths come in various sizes to fit different table dimensions.

What is the difference between flannel backed vinyl tablecloths and regular vinyl tablecloths?

The primary difference between flannel backed vinyl tablecloths and regular vinyl tablecloths is the addition of flannel backing. Flannel backing provides heat retention, making it suitable for serving hot dishes. It also increases the tablecloth's thickness and durability, while regular vinyl tablecloths have a thinner and more transparent appearance.

How do I prevent wrinkles on my flannel backed vinyl tablecloth?

To prevent wrinkles on your flannel backed vinyl tablecloth, ensure that it is laundered and dried carefully, as recommended by the care label. Iron the cloth while it is still slightly damp, using a low heat setting. If the wrinkles persist, you can carefully steam the tablecloth using a garment steamer. It is also essential to store the tablecloth flat or on a hanger to prevent creases from forming.

Yard Sale Scare [Pet tax included because she's relevant to the story]
Hey Joel and fellow Let's Read fanatics, I'm a long time fan of your narrations. Funny enough, the stories I'm sending in happened yesterday and today, and I was listening to some of your videos at the time.
So, to set the scene, today and yesterday I (f) hosted a yard sale. It went very well, I had fun, made a friend and even found something cool at a yard sale across the street from mine.
The yard sale was mixed. I had some expensive things near me (games, consoles, electronics, dishes, pristine/unused name brand stuff, etc) and some less expensive (sold for $1 or less) items scattered around the lawn like generic t-shirts, hoodies, movies and miscellaneous toys.
Friday (yesterday) was uneventful (sales wise) with some vague interest but no buyers. I set up at 8 and sat around until around 3:00pm, when I packed up. There was a storm due around then anyway, but that wasn't what drove me to pack everything up so soon.
I believe it was 2:15pm when it happened. I was sitting outside with my dog (don't worry, dog tax will be provided) when I noticed a man across the street behaving suspiciously.
Now, the yard is in an L shape that wraps around the house. On the left side facing away from the house is a busy street, and across that street is some more homes. Most of the people in those homes are elderly or otherwise vulnerable. I was in my seat facing that side due to my signs and tables being set up along that sidewalk.
Anyway. The man was waving his hands around, looking at the sky and skipping around like a child. I watched as he went to someone's door and began to knock on it erratically, talking to himself, and making a motion like he was praying. When nobody answered, he just walked down the porch. He then sort of waved at me when he saw I was there and casually moved to the next house to repeat this routine.
I then realized the house he was going to had their garage wide open. The elderly lady who lived there has two outdoor cats and I realized she must have forgotten to close it when she got the food.
The man seemed to forget I was there for a moment, and went to walk into the garage. He then froze and slowly turned to look in my direction.
Now, to explain something before I go on, my dog is exactly medium sized. She's about up to my knees height wise, and on her back legs her head reaches my chest. Despite her size, she has a scary bark and massive teeth. She's a big, playful sweetheart though and wouldn't hurt a fly.
She was sitting under my chair because it was hot out and was obscured. I feel this is important to note.
Back to the story. The guy turned to look at me, then began to walk toward the street to cross and come toward me.
I immediately stood up, trying to make myself look more alert. I'm 5'6 and I don't look small by any means. I've done taekwondo for years, and am by no means scrawny. I think my adrenaline kicked in about now, because I felt pretty confident standing up like that, but all that confidence felt like it drained from my body seconds later.
At first, he didn't seem to care about my front which I'll admit, really scared me because at this point he was on the sidewalk near where I was seated now.
When he crossed the sidewalk onto my lawn though, my dog came out from under my chair and growled at him, baring her teeth and everything.
This dog is an absolute sweetheart, and I've never seen her genuinely bare her teeth at anyone if it wasn't for playing. She plays rough, but I've never seen her behave that way.
The guy immediately stopped and looked at her, then just smiled at me for a few minutes before backing up and, get this- skipping away along the sidewalk to leave.
I was just frozen for a moment, wondering what the hell just happened. At some point though, I decided to call my dad and keep him on the phone while I started to pack up the valuables in my sale. I also kept my knife out in case something else happened but thankfully nothing did. The guy was gone, and the most that happened later was a little rain that afternoon.
Today I set up again to sell, and yet another odd thing happened. Today I kept a weapon near me to be on the safe side (my knife and some wooden Kali/Escrima sticks) and warned my neighbors who were having a yard sale about what happened yesterday.
Today, I was just relaxing during the last hour I planned to keep the sale up. My grandparents (who I live with) had gone to the store so I was alone out there. I had just put my dog back inside since it was too hot for her, and was listening to the podcast (specifically one with a story about a schizophrenic roommate) while I watched people walk by.
At some point, a very thin man carrying a Walmart bag and a jug of water came to my corner. He was talking to himself on the way over, and when he got to the tables, I greeted him with a smile as one does.
He then immediately launched into a whole spiel about how he loves, loves LOVES the bracelets I had on display and asked me over and over if I made them. I'd made them for a shop a while ago. They were ATLA (Avatar the Last Airbender) themed. I remember specifically he picked one I made with blood bending in mind (blue and white beads with pearl beads surrounding a clear, red one).
I told him as much, and let him know they were just 25 cents, and casually asked if he had someone in mind to give it to while he searched his pockets for a quarter. I should have guessed by his initial behavior that he was gonna launch into another thing.
He began going on about how he was single, and how he wished he had someone to give the bracelet to but he didn't. He then suddenly changed the topic asking if I played guitar. I should have gently sent him on his way and told him no, but for some reason my dumbass told him I did.
I play electric and acoustic. He then immediately got right up close and told me to get my guitar so he could play me a song. I politely declined, holding onto one of my kali sticks in case he didn't back off. He then got really pushy, walking me closer to the front door before I gave him a stern no and asked him for payment on the bracelet. He just smiled and handed me a pile of coins before going to grab his water jug and Walmart bag.
I didn't feel as threatened by this guy despite him being more invasive because I felt more prepared to deal with him. Despite his behavior, which I suspect had to do with drug use since meth/similar stumulants and their respective junkies are popular in my area, he wasn't aggressively walking toward me and backed off when I was firm unlike the first guy. I grew up around drug addicts because of my mom, so I know what the behavior is like, and I'm pretty sure this guy took something before heading out.
I later found out this same guy borderline harassed my neighbor and was actually pretty aggressive toward them. He was pushy, and threatened to "leave a note" on their door.
Anyway, there's my back to back weird encounters at a yard sale stories.
I decided to write this out for two reasons. One, to warn people about how weird people can be, especially in environments like yard and garage sales, and two, because writing things down and talking about it helps me process.
It didn't strike me until just an hour ago that the guy being weird on Friday (yesterday) possibly meant to do me harm, but my dog being there possibly prevented that.

2024.06.09 06:47 Worlds_Meepsnip_3275 (16M) I'm Questioning My Relationship with my GF (15F)

Hello, I come in somewhat desperate need of help when it comes to my relationship. Some things have come up that have legitimately started making me question my relationship with my GF of ~3 months.
This comes from a throwaway account, so I'll refer to myself as Shelly, and I'll refer to my GF as Phoneix.
A bit of backround first:
I'm 16 and a half, and I'd describe this as my first "real relationship", I do have Aspergers, so it kinda makes it hard to properly communicate my feelings towards anything, but I don't hold these feelings in either. I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to school and I achieve the highest grades I can, as I was a sophomore last school year (now technically a junior, due to the end of the 23-24 school year). I strive to be successful in my future. I had just moved to a new town where I still reside (I moved in August).
As for my girlfriend, (like I've said, I'll refer to her as Phoenix), she's recently turned fifteen in February. She, unlike me, does not have any conditions that could hinder anything in her life. She is a bit shy when it comes to talking with new people, she also strives to be successful, but hasn't been receiving the best of grades in her ninth grade year (as of now, shes technically a sophomore because of ghe end of the 23-24 school year). She's been in this town all of her life.
As per how we met... We had a class together in the 23-24 school year, it was Theatre-Art Studies, but we didn't actually meet until we were about 3 weeks into the class. Eventually, we met as we were assigned a project about emotions in the class (which was a one on one project), she seemed reluctant to talk to me at first, but as we progressed throughout the project, she seemed more eager to speak with me.
We actually had a funny conversation about each of our families, and she then thought I was a senior, when I also thought she was a junior (because she's really tall, I assumed she was a junior). We cleared it up, and when she found out I was a sophomore, she kinda smiled and told me "You're cute for a sophomore", which completely gave me a shock. (This is because I would never think a girl would call me cute or anything). All I could really say was a simple "thank you", and I told her how shocked I was hearing that. We had been talking so long at that point we realized there was about 5 minutes kept of the class (there's about 41 minutes in each class, and we started five minutes in class). So we rushed the project and turned it in to be looked at the next day.
The next day, I asked if I can sit a seat behind her, Phoenix said it was fine and she exclaimed how much of a nice conversation she had with me and said "I thought I'd never had a good conversation with a boy again, but you proved me wrong". (This will be examined later, as I've had no knowledge of her past at the time). I questioned her on it and explained that it wasn't something that needed to be talked about.
Over the next week, we got more close with each other, and on a Thursday, we were assigned a project about building a movie set with Legos. Being the planner I am, I wanted to construct a plan with Phoenix (as we chose our own partners aside from being chosen by the teacher, who we'll call Mrs. Ness, she'll be important later). I (very awkwardly) asked her for her phone number, and she accepted, and Phoenix began scribbling her number on a torn piece of paper, she gave it to me, and this is how we started talking out if school.
We passed with flying colors on the project, but anyways...
During March, after we had met over two and a half weeks ago, she wanted to talk to me about something, and she asked me if we could sit and talk in the back of our auditorium (where this class usually was held), and we started talking and she said she's had a crush on me since we met, (In reality, I had also developed feelings for her). She admitted all of this to me and said "I wanted to tell you this, and it's okay if you don't like me for doing this" (something that WILL be brought up later). I said that I didn't hate her for doing that, which she kinda refused to believe, but when I said I had feelings for her too, it looked like a wave of relief hit Phoenix's entire body. So we were sitting there, and she says "A lot of people hate me, especially boys in my grade, but you are one of the few that care about me". To which I said I always strive to treat everyone with trust, equality, and respect.
So... as of that day in early March we began dating! But we kept it secret from anyone else, as we communicated mainly over text, we fell for each other FAST. I found her personality to be sweet, she is a genuine, passionate, and beautiful girl. She finds me dreamy, cute, nice, and respectful. So we have love there
One day Phoenix admitted to me over text (and later on in person) that she had at least 9 breakups since 6th grade, which I felt was strange but I pressed her on the topic, she said that was one of the reasons she disliked boys. I later learned that she had (when we had just met) been suffering through her ninth breakup, and she promised to herself that she'd never date again, that was (as she says) until she met me during that emotions project.
As a person who's had poor experiences with girls in general in the past, I legitimately felt the same way about dating, and I had a back of mind thought of "What If I can't date anyone?".
We had a minor fight in April, but all turned out well in the end, but the way it happened (looking in retrospect) really raises a red flag for me. We were just texting one day when my parents came home and I had forgotten to do the dishes, which they had told me to do, so I went to let Phoenix know that I might be a bit doing chores, she accepted the response. At the same time my parents got home they also brought home groceries, which caused me to take longer than expected, then I got finished with everything.
I hurriedly ran to my room to begin texting her again, she was happy at first, saying she was worried for me, but then began saying "How long you took was sus" (and I'll be completely honest, this was the first time I heard this word, so I didnt know what it meant definition wise), so I asked her what it meant, and she basically reiterated that I was suspicious for being gone that long. I told her that my parents brought in groceries and I had to also do dishes, which was something she didn't believe, as she kept insinuating that I was trying to "keep away from her". Which was not what I had expected. But around thirty minutes later, it was all resolved.
This is one of a few things that make me question the situation I'm in right now...
We began having "spicy" conversations, but not adult-themed conversations, we were essentially saying how much we loved each other and we started talking about kissing, in which she asked "Could we have a kiss?", and me being me, I jumped to saying yes. She says "This could be your first real kiss, Shelly". That just made me excited, then the topic of French Kissing came up, and we were actually going to go through with it, that was until Phoenix's mother looked through her texts and advised Phoenix to "simmer" these conversations down. The next day in person, Phoenix said that her mom did not like me and her exactly being together, (which later changes), but she still gave her permission to talk to me (In reality, this was both of our faults because we got too carried on with a rather passionate conversation).
During our relationship, she had said that her bullies treated her really poorly, and she thought that everyone in her grade disliked her, and even suggested her exes hated her too. She said that her previous ex (I'll call him Max, was a freshman), and her former friend (I'll call her Abby, she was a senior) were her main too aggressors when it came to her bullying. Max was her ex, and Abby (like me, has autism) had a following, and would constantly tease Phoenix to the point of her eating habits being absolutely destroyed. Phoenix said that Max had usually said "I wish your past health issue was bad", and that she was ugly and nobody loved her.
Oh, I forgot to mention that she also had a major health issue in the past, but I would not like to talk about it.
However, on a very hot night in early May, the topic of Phoenix's bullies came up again. It seemed like the usual complaint at first, but she... she kept getting more aggressive over text. It was nearing eleven o'clock at night, and as I had taken a three hour nap that day after school, I was nowhere near tired.
She later went on to say that she'll start a fight with Max, and "win it", which immediately tipped me off that something was wrong, and it rose a large red flag and alarms basically blared in my head (later on, she later also detailed how she would also fight two others as well, both of whom I did not know). The things she said were terrible to hear (I'm a pacifist, and I would EVER only fight in self-defense), I kept telling Phoenix to stop, and to reconsider. (I have text records, and... looking at them now... it's very hard to look at.) I literally begged her to reconsider what she was doing, and she said "I'll win this for you, cutie😈", and after I told her to stop again, she said "I'll only stop after today, and just for you".
I was legitimately scared at this point, and I sought to end the conversation, which ended successfully, but that was when I said "Phoenix, if you continue to go through with this, you are breaking my trust, my morals and values as a person will be broken. I know how to fail your plans, even if I won't get physical". This was my warning to her.
It was around midnight now, and I actually got on a text hotline and reported her behaviour, and provided as many details as I could (I swear, this is making me stressed as I right this now). They ended their report and info collecting at one o'clock, and feeling deathly scared, I tried sleeping. I don't know how I got any sleep that night.
It's the next morning, and Phoenix texts me at around 7:40, saying "Hey cutie, sorry I came in late this morning, but I'm going to for sure win that fight. I'll talk to you later, Shelly". I told her, as a last warning, "Phoenix, please don't do this". That would be my last text for the next thirty minutes.
At around 8:10, I got a text asking "Did you report me?!?!" And I spilled absolutely everything on her. I told her that going through with this, she was breaking my trust and every value I had as a person, and yes, I did indeed report you. I told you I could foil your plan (I was saying this as a reference to my previous text to her that night). She said that she hated me, absolutely hated me.
Okay, look, I was very scared here. I was legitimately scared that she was going to do something to harm me.
This is my lunch period, my fourth period, and I immediately ran in to tell my friends to NOT talk to Phoenix at all costs, and I told them a summary of what happened, they all sympathized with my side of the situation.
Now, I'm very fortunate to have Mrs. Ness as one of the lunch supervisors, so I pulled her off to the side and explained everything to her, I even said that I felt completely unsafe and that I didn't know what she could do to me. She asked if we were "an item", but when she defined it for me, I denied anything relating to the sort, but now I care about being safe, and she said that she would help to protect me at all costs. We were presenting our final projects in the class those next few days, and I asked her if I could sit the closes I could to her while staying far away from Phoenix, she absolutely agreed and promised to have my back. (Thank Jesus).
In class, when she presented that day, I absolutely refused to look at her, and since our tables faced one another in the classroom (we were in a classroom to present these final projects), I felt trapped, I quickly glanced at Phoenix a few times, ans I caught her looking at me. She looked absolutely sullen, and I refused to look at her during her presentation, but instead looked at the ground the entire time while she was presenting, it felt like ages. She was done and I finally felt safe.
After school, I received a text "I don't know if you've blocked me or anything, and I don't know if you hate me. But I'd like to apologize for everything and I want to talk with you in the morning". I reluctantly accepted, and when she came up to my breakfast table in the morning, I still felt scared, but I managed to walk with her to my class, where she would hand me a letter (she knew that I loved her writing, it's still adorable to this day). I read it later on and she said she saw she made a mistake, and that she would like to restart our relationship. I didn't consider ending the relationship there, but it was a stark reminder that I was on the fence about absolutely everything.
I love this girl to death, and in the letter she promised me she wouldn't do anything like this again (which she still keeps to this day), and she said she saw how wrong she was for going as far as she did. I later texted her that I'd take some tike to think about us being together (I was being genuine, and Phoenix accepted)
That Friday, she sent me another text, but with different meaning and wording about the apology and clarified that I did the right thing, and she was in the wrong, and she took fault for that. She just didn't want me to hate her (surprisingly, I wasn't finding myself angry or hateful of her, but rather... deeply disappointed.). I guess that made me decide that I would restart everything with her, and I guess we hit it off again. I felt safe again in her presence, and we resumed our normal routine like nothing had happened. At this point, she was a lot more friendlier towards me than ever before. I let Mrs. Ness know that we had made up and said that she was glad we made up.
Phoenix then invited me to have ice cream at a local parlor, and I'm like "sure, I'll absolutely go". We went on June 1st, which was very convenient as a Saturday and after the last day of school. We were enjoying ourselves, I paid for the ice cream, absolutely everything went well. I even met her mother (at this point I had legitimately forgotten that she once looked through our "spicy" texts), she met my mom and they hit it off well, talking about the town we were originally from, to how our futures would pan out living there, to potential future visits. I legitimately like her mom, she's a sweet lady.
Communication actually became better after this, on a phone call, she demonstrated a sweet French voice, and I called it hot, but she called me sexy, which also shocked me, and I was speechless the entire call. We also started calling each other baby/babe like a few days before. We actually talked more than ever before.
Now, my most latest concern comes on June 8, where I had another "You're sus" incident, this was about our third incident since April, where she accused me of not wanting to play Roblox with her (in reality I was forced by my parents to play a board game with my brothers, which turned out to be fun in the end). She then accused me of hating her, just like her exes, and she accused me of saying that I liked her as a fake confidence boost so I could "later pull her down and destroy her". My mom wanted me to get off her phone for the night (my service on my ohone was shut off June 2nd, so I had to use hers) and I responded "Look, Phoenix, I don't hate you, I love you, and I want you to have a sweet night babe" I don't know if she ever responded to it, since it was quite early (like seven o'clock at night, she usually ends her convos at ten).
Now... now I'm stuck on the fence, and I'm questioning absolutely everything about our relationship. I love this girl to death, and I know her past with this kind of stuff before, but I don't want to be treated the way I am, K don't want to be treated like I'm suspicious, and I don't like the way she puts herself down around me. I absolutely love this girl, I really do, I could say it a million times over and I could still say it some more. I just don't know what to do, can I get some needed advice here?
Thank you for reading this long post, being typed out for about two hours straight in the middle of the night. I hope I can get some outsider perspective on this, because I really need it right now.... thank you!

2024.06.09 05:40 Existing_Star_8521 Best way to handle awkward situations?

I work night shift at a restaurant that has a self serve salsa bar for people to grab as much as they need. The cost of it has increased and since April we have downsized the serving bowls and stopped making one of the more expensive salsa’s. It still gets remade every now and then but for the most part we do not have it. This place has a lot of regulars who are mostly very nice and friendly. The other day one of those regulars came in and he seemed put off that I couldn’t remember his order, mind you he’s usually here in the morning so I’ve seen him maybe 3 times in my time working here. At the time that he arrived there was 4 other bigger tables who were all helping themselves to the salsa bar as normal. When he went, there was no more corn salsa, carrots or limes. He let me know and I brought out more for him, except for the corn because we ran out of it. Eventually everyone left but him and that’s when he decided to start letting me know that the salsa bar not being full at the time of his arrival was a big issue for him. He explained to me how it was the only reason he came because “there’s other places to go.” He continued by saying I wasn’t giving the bar as much importance as I should, this as I’m picking up dishes and wiping tables down. I tried my best to ignore him and told him I try to refill when I can and his response was that it’s my job. At this point i’m just trying to ignore him and finish cleaning up. After some silence he tells me that the red salsa is “nasty” and that it does not meet his expectations. By what he is telling me I can understand that he is confusing it with the salsa that we no longer make so I try to explain that it’s a different one and he said I was just making excuses for myself. I don’t make the salsa..He proceeds by saying he talks to the owner a lot lol and that the salsa bar is the cheapest thing to maintain and that he knows that because he is in the restaurant business. I didn’t say anything to him, I quite literally am just a cashier and I don’t know what he wanted from me. I went back inside the kitchen as he was still speaking because I could not take him anymore. I’m just wondering how to react to situations like this because I felt like this was a bit uncalled for.

🔗Fireside Ember Ground Mat: Food-grade Silicon Protection for Fire Pits and Grills

https://preview.redd.it/39iwaiolug5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=66adb2aaab78aa781faaece9d6681386bd49b211
Last weekend, I ventured into the wild with a group of friends and our trusty camping gear. Among the essentials we packed was the Fireside Ground Ember Mat. After a long day of hiking, we set up our fire pit, only to find that our grassy campsite was covered in embers. With the help of the Fireside Ember Mat, however, we had nothing to fear.
The mat's food-grade silicon coating helped us save a few dropped hotdogs, and it was a breeze to clean up. We quickly noticed that the reflective edging added an extra level of safety as night fell, ensuring we could see the mat in the darkness.
However, the mat isn't perfect. While it's compatible with a variety of fire pits, including charcoal, electric, and gas grills, it's not ideal for use on grass. We encountered a couple of incidents where embers escaped the fire pit and burned the grass beneath. But overall, the Fireside Ground Ember Mat was a reliable addition to our camping arsenal, and we've since recommended it to friends.
In terms of its sturdy build and durability, users have praised the mat's heat resistance and its ability to withstand constant exposure to fire. The mat's versatility and lightweight design also add to its appeal.
From my experience, the Fireside Ground Ember Mat is a worthwhile investment for anyone who wants to ensure their camping trips remain safe and free from mishaps. It's easy to use, clean, and adds an extra layer of protection around your fire pit. With its helpful features and overall effectiveness, it's a must-have for any outdoor enthusiast.

🔗Fire-Resistant Grill Mat for Deck Protection

Imagine a sunny day, and the smell of barbecue wafting through the air. You're enjoying a delicious meal with your family and friends, but your worry about the mess that comes after is unavoidable. Protebox understands that hassle, which is why they created their extra-large 60 x 40-inch Under Grill Mats.
My experience with Protebox felt like a breath of fresh air. As someone who loves hosting get-togethers, I was always concerned about the mess left behind after grilling. Protebox's mat solved that problem with ease. It collects more splatter and residue than any other grill mats I've used, keeping my deck and lawn clean and stain-free. Plus, the material it's made of feels tough and durable. Despite being exposed to the elements, it's easy to clean, reusable, and can even fold up for storage.
The mats are coated with fireproof fiberglass and silicone, allowing it to endure heat up to 2000°F without burning. In my grilling tests, it held up against even the hottest temperatures without showing any signs of wear or tear. To make cleaning a breeze, the surface doesn't absorb stains and is effortlessly wiped clean.
In addition to grilling, Protebox's Under Grill Mat is versatile and compatible with fire pits and fireplaces as well. One important note to consider, especially if you're planning on using it under fire pits - keep a 10-inch distance between the pit and the mat to prevent any mishaps.
As a user, I can confidently say Protebox Grill Mats are the ultimate solution for anyone seeking a mess-free grilling experience.

🔗Large, Waterproof, Easy-to-Clean Grill Mat for Outdoors

These under grill mats by UBeesize have been a game-changer for me when it comes to outdoor cooking. Made with high-quality fiberglass, they effectively protect my floor from grease, gas, or any other charred spillages. The large size of these mats, measuring 48" x 65", ensures that even my deck or floor – whether made of wood or anything else – stays safe from oil, sauces, charcoal, and high temperatures. Plus, the fact that they're waterproof means no more stressing about grease or liquid soaking through.
When I'm done using the mat, it's a breeze to clean thanks to its easy-to-wash design. Simply throw it in the washing machine and watch as all the mess comes off effortlessly. It even comes with the added convenience of being foldable – perfect for storing and transporting during camping trips or outdoor activities. Though they may have some fold marks upon arrival, they disappear within a few days, proving to be a small price to pay for such a useful tool.

🔗Multi-Layered Fire Pit Mat for Protection and Insulation

I have recently used Texfire's fireproof mat to protect our wooden flooring from the sparks, embers, and ashes that our fireplace produces. The carpet is a perfect blend of style and functionality, featuring a beautiful plush texture on one side and a flame-retardant silicone coating on the other. I found the carpet to be highly effective in retaining the heat and fire materials, ensuring our floor remained safe and protected.
However, I did notice a small downside - the carpet's dimensions would have been more convenient if they were slightly larger, covering a larger area of our fireplace. Despite this minor issue, I am still very pleased with the product and the level of protection it provides to our floors. The multilayer design offers excellent thermal insulation, making it suitable for various types of flooring, including wood, tiles, and parquet.
Overall, Texfire's fireproof mat is an excellent investment for anyone who wants to enjoy the warmth and comfort of a fireplace without worrying about the potential damage it might cause to their floors.

🔗Outdoor Fireproof Grill Mat for Decks and Patios

I've been using this Brinman Fire Grill Mat for a while now and it's been an absolute game-changer for my outdoor grilling experience. Made of heat-resistant fiberglass fabric, it really lives up to its claim of withstanding high temperatures, keeping my deck and patio safe from hot embers and sparks.
One of the best things about this mat? It's easy to clean! The waterproof, oil-proof design keeps spills and splatters non-absorbing, making cleanup a breeze—just use mild soap and water or a garden hose. Even better, the mat foldable for convenient storage and transportation, which is a great bonus.
However, one thing to consider is the size, which is a bit larger than I initially expected – 65 x 40 inches, to be precise. This could be a bit too big for some outdoor grills, so I recommend measuring yours before placing your order.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this mat to anyone looking for a reliable, heat-resistant, and easy-to-clean solution for their outdoor grilling.

🔗Fireproof and Waterproof Under Grill Mat

Recently, I got my hands on this nifty large under grill mat during a barbecue spree with friends. It was larger than your average 60"x42" mat, allowing us to protect a bigger area of the floor. The fiberglass construction made for an incombustible mat that kept our patio, lawns, and decks safe from harmful contaminants. Plus, the silicone coating was waterproof, oil-proof, and pressure resistant - an all-in-one solution for those clumsy accidents.
Once the barbecue was over, the smooth, low-adhesion surface made cleaning oil stains a breeze with warm water and dish soap. Its foldable design made storage a breeze and carried it easily on vacations. Overall, it was a practical, eco-friendly, and hassle-free solution to outdoor grilling. However, I had to wait for a month to receive it and the country of origin was China. Nevertheless, the benefits outweighed the potential inconvenience.

🔗Portable Fire-Resistant Outdoor Grill Mat for Various Grills

As a foodie and outdoor enthusiast, I've come across several grill mats over the years, but I must say the BAIPOK Large Under Grill Mat stands out for its double-sided fireproof and oil-proof features. The quality of this mat is top-notch and it's sturdy enough to withstand high temperatures and rough handling.
One of the most impressive features is its water and oil resistance, which not only protects my floor but also makes cleanup a breeze. With its unique foldable design, storage has never been easier. Moreover, it suits a wide variety of indoor and outdoor scenarios, making it a versatile purchase.
But, like any product, it isn't perfect. I had to pay close attention to the precautions during use as I've seen a few mishaps when users don't follow proper guidelines. Yet, the pros far outweigh the cons, making it a worthy investment for anyone who enjoys grilling, barbecuing, or simply spending time around a fire pit with friends and family.

I've been using the 60 x 40 Inch Under Grill Mat as my go-to solution for outdoor grilling and fire pit sessions, and it's been a game-changer. This double-sided mat is not only fireproof, but it also offers triple-layer protection against the high-heat damage caused by BBQ pits, outdoor grills, and fire pits.
One of the things I love about this mat is its large size, which ensures that it covers a large area, keeping my deck, patio, and grass free from oil, sauce, charcoal, and other high-temperature stains. And it's surprisingly easy to clean – a quick rinse with water, a wipe with a damp cloth or even soap, and it's as good as new.

I recently tried out the Svepndic fireplace hearth mat, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer for anyone looking to protect their floors and patios from those pesky embers. The first thing I noticed was just how easy it was to install - no messy assembly required!
The mat itself is made of a double-layer fiberglass material that provides excellent fire and thermal insulation. It's designed to withstand temperatures up to 1832°F, which means it's more than capable of handling even the most intense fires without breaking down. But don't worry, it won't melt away in front of your eyes. It's been designed to slowly isolate or even snuff out small fires, ensuring the safety of your family.
One of the best features of this mat is its non-slip silicone cloth on the front and back. This clever design prevents the mat from shifting around on your floor, which could be a potential hazard if you're not careful. And when it comes to cleaning, this rustic mat is a dream. You can wash it directly with water, or even use a machine if you prefer. For continuous use, a vacuum cleaner or a good shake should do the trick.
This versatile mat is perfect for use in a range of settings such as kitchens, fireplaces, camping trips, barbecues, and even decks and patios. It effectively protects your floors from those infamous sparks and embers, making it an essential piece of gear for any busy home or camping enthusiast. Its large size ensures it covers more ground than you'd think, making it ideal for bigger spaces.
Just a couple of practical tips - make sure to attend to fireplaces without fire screens, and remember to manually measure your space before installation. Also, keep an eye on the colors, as slight differences due to different screens are possible.
Overall, this Svepndic fireplace hearth mat is a worthy addition to any fire-prone home or outdoor area. It's easy to use, sturdy, and most importantly, it keeps your floors safe from the perils of fire. Highly recommended!

🔗Large PVC Grill Mat: Protect Floor from Grease, Embers & Ashes

Using this 65" x 36" Calvana PVC mat under my grill has been a game-changer. It's been perfect for protecting my deck from the hot grill and charcoal, as well as catching those pesky grease splatters that would otherwise ruin my day.
Being made of non-flammable composite PVC is a big plus, as I don't have to worry about it catching fire while grilling out. The superior thermal insulation added an extra layer of protection, ensuring that the surrounding decking or floors remain cool to the touch.
This multipurpose mat has been incredibly versatile, not just for the grill, but also for various other kitchen tools and appliances. I love how it protects my garage floor from oil spills and lawn mower grease. Plus, it's been a lifesaver in terms of keeping my deck scratch-free from bikes and exercise equipment.
Maintaining cleanliness doesn't feel like a chore anymore, thanks to this mat. I simply use a paper towel to clean away any dirt or spills, or household cleaners for the more stubborn messes. I recently tried out the BAIPOK 36" Fire Pit Mat, and I have to say, it's a game-changer for any outdoor gatherings around the fire. The double-sided design with fireproof floor mats really doubles the quality and insulation, providing an extra layer of protection that I appreciate.
However, the foldable nature of these mats does come with a drawback - it can crease when packed, and those creases might take a few days to disappear. But overall, I find this product to be an excellent addition to any outdoor setup, allowing me to relax and enjoy the warmth of a fire with my loved ones without worrying about hazards.

🔗Heat-Resistant Grill Protective Mat for Decking and Firepit Use

After spending countless weekends at home grilling and enjoying outdoor barbecue parties, I found myself in desperate need of a protective solution for my patio's surfaces. I stumbled upon this fire pit mat—the perfect heat and grease-resistant companion for those warm, summer evenings.
The fireproof mat, made of glass fiber-coated aluminum foil, has proven to be an invaluable addition to my outdoor cooking setup. Its ability to withstand a high temperature of up to 95% radiant heat is impressive, to say the least. Not only did it safeguard my deck, but it also protected my guests from accidental spills and splatters.
I must admit, I was initially skeptical about the mat's lightweight construction, but it surprised me by being quite portable and easy to store when not in use. Its foldability adds to its convenience, making it a perfect accessory for outdoor gatherings.
One thing I noticed, though, was its shape. It was designed with a modern, round appearance, which means it might not fit under square or rectangular fire pits. This isn't a major drawback, but it's something to consider if you have a non-round setup.
The mat also does a great job of preventing heat damage and grease spills on grass and patios, creating a safe fireproof barrier for various surfaces. However, I'd advise keeping a decent distance (at least 4 inches) between it and the cooker to ensure maximum insulation and prolong its life.
Overall, this fire pit mat has become an essential part of my outdoor cooking experience. It protects my patio while adding a touch of sophistication and style to my gatherings. I highly recommend this heat-resistant and splash-guard mat to anyone in search of a reliable, versatile, and stylish solution to safeguard their surfaces from the harsh realities of grilling.

Made of sturdy heat-resistant materials, it prevented the occasional flying embers from causing any potential harm. Although the mat is designed to withstand high temperatures, it's possible to cause it to melt if it's exposed to excessive heat for a prolonged period; this could result in a slow-burning situation, so remember to keep it away from direct flames and heat sources.

One of the critical factors when choosing a fire pit mat is the size and shape. Fire pits come in various sizes, which can range from small tabletop styles to large commercial pits. Consider the space available in your outdoor area and the specific purpose for the fire pit. If only entertaining close friends and family, a smaller fire pit might suffice.
Additionally, fire pit mats are available in different shapes, such as round, square, and rectangular. Pick a shape that best matches the design of your fire pit and the area where it will be placed.

Materials

When selecting a fire pit mat, you'll want to pay close attention to the materials used in its construction. Most fire pit mats are made of a combination of materials to withstand high temperatures and provide durability over time.
  • Fire-resistant materials: Some common materials used in fire pit mats include ceramic fibers, fire-resistant clay, and non-toxic, heat-resistant fabrics. These materials help prevent combustion and damage from the intense heat generated by the fire pit.
  • Insulation materials: Many fire pit mats come with layers of insulation made of materials like mineral fibers or aluminum foil. These materials help to reflect and absorb heat, keeping the mat cool and comfortable to the touch.
  • Stainless steel or other durable materials: Look for fire pit mats with sturdy frames made of material like stainless steel. These materials provide durability and can withstand the wear and tear of being outdoors.

Installation and Maintenance

Installing a fire pit mat is a relatively straightforward process. Place the mat on the ground surrounding the fire pit, ensuring it covers the entire area thoroughly. Make sure there are no gaps or overhangs that could cause combustion or damage to the mat.
Regular maintenance is also essential to ensure the longevity of your fire pit mat. Clean the mat after each use by removing any debris, ashes, or soot. Store it properly in a dry place when not in use and avoid placing it in direct sunlight for extended periods of time.

https://preview.redd.it/iopzht7uug5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7b431080db26857196279d9353fbbb685e0480aa

Price and Warranty

When shopping for a fire pit mat, consider the cost and warranty offered by the manufacturer or seller. Higher-priced mats might offer superior materials and construction, but it is essential to find the best balance of quality and price that suits your needs.
A warranty can provide peace of mind, especially when investing in a fire pit mat. Look for a warranty that covers damages caused by fire, heat, and other environmental factors.

Brand Reputation

Brand reputation plays a crucial role in determining the quality and durability of a fire pit mat. Research the brand to find out if they are known for producing high-quality products and have positive customer reviews. A reputable brand will typically offer exceptional customer service and stand by their products.
Shopping with a reputable brand can alleviate any concerns you might have about the product's performance and help ensure your satisfaction with the purchase.
Choosing the right fire pit mat is about finding a product that meets your specific needs. Consider factors such as size, shape, materials, installation, maintenance, price, warranty, and brand reputation when making your decision. By doing so, you'll be able to enjoy a safe and comfortable outdoor experience while using your fire pit.

2024.06.09 04:48 Alex72598 Hell's Kitchen Season 24 - Episode 15

Previously, on Hell’s Kitchen…
The final 7 participated in the presentation challenge, but this time, it was every chef for themselves, as they competed for an incredible reward: a black jacket and immunity from elimination. It was a closely fought contest, but in the end, Lauren cemented her frontrunner status by taking the win with a dish that impressed Chef Ramsay and the former winners who had stopped by to guest judge. Not only did Lauren earn her black jacket early, but she also got a photo shoot with Epicurious, and a dinner with the former Hell’s Kitchen champions. While Lauren was riding high, everyone else was left behind to clean up the mess from several weeks of dorm life.
In service, both teams had their share of issues, and although they each managed to fight through it, Ramsay wasn’t content with choosing a winning team, and instead had both teams nominate one chef for elimination. At elimination, the choice seemed to be an easy one, as Grace and Ramona found themselves in front of Ramsay yet again. But in the end, it was Grace who fell just short of obtaining a black jacket, which saw her dream of becoming the next head chef of Gordon Ramsay Steak go up in flames.
The final six have overcome each obstacle Ramsay has thrown at them, but are they truly ready for what lies ahead? FInd out tonight, on Hell’s Kitchen..,
https://reddit.com/link/1dbjm6p/video/uyknwqndlg5d1/player
And now, the continuation of Hell’s Kitchen…
The final six were in a celebratory mood as they sprinted down the hallway and excitedly exchanged high fives and hugs. Lauren said in her confessional that they were really here, to the part of the competition that mattered most, and best of all, Grace was finally gone. Thomas was equally glad, as he said in his confessional that it was another weak chef removed from his path, though he wasn’t really worried about anyone here. Ramona was absolutely ecstatic, saying in her confessional that not only did she get a black jacket, but she got to see Grace walk out the door. With the chefs seemingly celebrating being rid of their biggest nuisance as much as getting their black jackets, Michael pointed out that Ramsay had mentioned the black jacket lounge, and the chefs eagerly entered to find it decked out with a bar, a banner congratulating them, and several bottles of champagne on ice, with a note telling them to enjoy.
Michael said in his confessional that he knew the booze was always a trap, but that wasn’t gonna stop him, as he popped open a bottle and poured himself and Faye a glass. The others were equally willing to indulge, as Melody said in her confessional that right now, it was time to let all that tension roll off their shoulders and just enjoy this moment with Lauren. The two of them drank a couple of glasses until Melody finally said they should save something for tomorrow, as she laughed in her confessional and said someone had to be the voice of reason here. Michael had no such inhibitions as he quickly downed more than enough to get him in a relaxed state, while Faye teased him about how well he could hold his liquor. Thomas said in his confessional that he was definitely going to regret that tomorrow. The chefs continued to celebrate well into the night before finally getting what little sleep they could.
Challenge
The black jackets were awakened early the next morning, however, and went downstairs to meet Ramsay, who asked them if they enjoyed their reward last night, to which Michael replied that they did, and Ramsay said he could tell just by looking at them. Michael admitted in his confessional that he still felt like shit, and just hoped the challenge wouldn’t be too difficult. Ramsay said he hoped the chefs had saved a little pep in their step for today, because Hell’s Kitchen was opening tonight for a very special occasion: A 20th anniversary reunion night where all of the guests would be chefs who had appeared on past seasons of Hell’s Kitchen. Ramsay emphasized that he wanted to see this team at their absolute best during service. Ramona groaned in her confessional and said today of all days, she didn’t need to be dealing with a hangover. Regardless, Ramsay said that for now, he wanted them to focus on the here and now, and that meant today’s challenge. Ramsay briefly went over how much food had been wasted throughout the history of Hell’s Kitchen, to which Melody prayed in her confessional that they wouldn’t have to do any dumpster diving. Ramsay went on, though, saying that one of his favorite challenges to revisit was designed to test the chefs’ ability to work with leftover ingredients. He told the chefs that they had 45 minutes to prepare a stunning dish using leftover ingredients from last night’s service, and their time started right now.
The final six rushed into the kitchen and began rummaging through the pile of leftover ingredients. Thomas was confident as he said in his confessional that he could make a five star dish out of any ingredients, fresh or not, and already had a plan in mind. Meanwhile, Faye said in her confessional that she needed a win in this challenge to get herself back into the running, and was determined to put her best foot forward. As most of the chefs got to work on cooking, at least one chef still seemed undecided in their ingredients. Melody said in her confessional that she wanted to take her time and plan out her dish mentally first. As Ramsay called out that 10 minutes had passed, Lauren wondered in her confessional what Melody was doing, and said she needed to get a move on. Finally, Melody chose her ingredients and joined the other chefs. Ramona was determined to get it right, as she said in her confessional that she needed a win here badly, and was hoping to come up clutch again as she had during Cook For Your Life. Michael was doing his best to stay focused given his partying last night, as he joked in his confessional that hopefully he cooked even better hungover than sober. Lauren was full of confidence after having been the first to earn a black jacket yesterday, though admitted she was also feeling the after-effects of last night’s celebration. With all six chefs working frantically to wrap up their creations in the allotted time, Ramsay counted down the final seconds, then told them to stop and bring their dishes up to the pass.
Ramsay announced that since this was the 20th anniversary of Hell’s Kitchen, it was only right for a legendary judge to help him score this contest. That was why he had invited the one and only…Wolfgang Puck. A choir of voices sang his name as the iconic chef walked through the door and stood by Ramsay’s side. Melody gushed in her confessional, as she could not believe she was standing just feet away from Wolfgang Puck himself. Ramona was suddenly very nervous, as she said in her confessional that if she had known Chef Puck was going to be voting on these dishes, she would have put in 100 times the effort. Nonetheless, with the introduction out of the way, Ramsay now called on Faye to bring her dish up first.
Faye presented her pan seared halibut over pea puree with sliced vegetables. Puck examined the dish carefully, noting that the presentation could have been a bit better, though he did enjoy the taste of the halibut itself. Ramsay said it was a nice tasting dish, though unfortunately, he did get the sense it was made from leftovers, as nothing really seemed to pop, which Puck agreed with. The two chefs were ready to give their scores on a 1-10 scale, and both Ramsay and Puck gave her a six, for a 12/20 score. Faye kicked herself in her confessional, as she felt that she had played it far too safe, and it backfired on her. Next, it was Ramona’s turn to step forward, as she presented a plate of chicken breast over turnip puree with fingerling potatoes and asparagus. Again though, Ramsay commented that he wasn’t feeling a wow factor, and said it had a decent taste but one that was distinctly more like leftovers than fine dining. Puck also pointed out that the chicken was a bit undercooked for his liking. Ramsay was still willing to give it a six, but Puck felt it only earned a five, giving her an 11/20 score and leaving Faye in the lead. Ramona was upset with herself in her confessional, as she said she couldn’t believe she screwed it up right when she needed a big challenge win the most. Ramsay urged the chefs to step it up big time, as this wasn’t what he was expecting at this stage from the black jackets. Third up was Melody, who expressed anxiety in her confessional after seeing both Faye and Ramona struggle, and knew she had to get this right. She presented her herb-crusted salmon with buttered caper sauce, and Puck noted right away that it was a big step up on looks alone, which Ramsay agreed with. The chefs tasted the dish and came away just as impressed, with Ramsay saying this was the first standout dish of the challenge by far. Puck gave his score first, saying that deserved a nine. Ramsay agreed completely and also gave it a nine, for a strong 18/20 score.
Melody was thrilled in her confessional to have gotten such a strong score, but knew Thomas, Lauren and Michael were all good enough to potentially take the win. Lauren went next, saying in her confessional that Melody had raised the bar here, and it was now up to her to keep pace. She was hoping to do so with her filet mignon with red onion and tarragon relish. Ramsay had praise for the presentation, as he noted it was simple, but appetizing. Once they sliced the filet, Puck was pleased to see it cooked beautifully, and both chefs praised the taste of the meat. Puck did express that the garnish could have been a bit better, but Ramsay said they had a very tough decision on the hands. Ultimately, both felt it wasn’t quite on the same level of Melody’s dish, and each gave it an eight, for a score of 16/20. Lauren was disappointed to have come up short, but said in her confessional that she hoped Melody could hold on for the win. Next was Thomas, who expressed confidence in his confessional despite the tall task in front of him, as he said he continually demanded perfection of himself and expected nothing less here. He presented his John Dory with orange glazed endives, which earned strong praise from both Ramsay and Puck for its clean and modern presentation. Both also praised the flavor of the dish, though both noted the orange glaze was a bit too sweet for them. Ramsay was willing to overlook this though, considering how strong of a dish it was, and gave it a nine. Puck…said it did take the dish down a peg for him, and he could only give it an eight, giving Thomas a 17/20 score and leaving Melody with a narrow lead. Thomas showed some frustration in his confessional, as he was getting tired of always coming up just short in challenges. Finally, Michael was the only one left to take on Melody, and he said in his confessional that this was finally his time to take home victory in a challenge. He presented his lamb chops with butter fondant, morels, peas, and a balsamic reduction, which again earned high marks for the presentation, as Puck said the chefs were definitely putting forth their best in this challenge. Ramsay agreed, and said the dish looked nearly perfect, with only one problem…the lamb looked as if it might’ve cooked about half a minute too long. Michael kicked himself in his confessional, as he said he had been so focused on not serving undercooked food, that he had overcompensated. Despite this critique, though, both Ramsay and Puck enjoyed the dish and said the flavor was excellent.
Ramsay said this was a very tough choice, but even with the slight overcook on the lamb, everything else was good enough to earn it a nine. With the deciding vote in his hands, Puck said in addition to the lamb, he also had a bit of a problem with the garnish not adding as much as it could have, and that was why he could only give it an eight, leaving Michael with a 17/20 score, and giving Melody the win in the challenge.
Reward / Punishment
Ramsay congratulated Melody on running the gauntlet, as this was one of the closest challenges in recent years, and she absolutely earned the win. And as a reward for that win, she was going to be treated to an afternoon of surfing lessons from 2024 Olympian Carissa Moore. Melody was nothing less than giddy in her confessional, as she said this day couldn’t get much better, but Ramsay wasn’t finished, and said that a reward like this shouldn’t be spent alone, and she should bring one of her fellow chefs along. Without hesitation, Melody told Lauren to get her stuff packed, because they were going surfing. Lauren was pumped up to get a reward with Melody and have an opportunity to spend personal time with an Olympian. As the two embraced and rushed off to get changed, Ramsay told the remaining four chefs that today’s punishment would be anything but the breezy fun Melody and Lauren would be experiencing, as the kitchens needed to be cleaned and prepped, and the dining room appropriately decorated, for tonight’s 20 year Reunion Night service. Lauren wondered in her confessional why both kitchens would need to be prepped, but Faye said in her confessional that she had a sneaking suspicion about what Ramsay was up to.
While the four losing chefs got to work on their grueling punishment, Melody and Lauren went back downstairs and left Hell’s Kitchen together, eager to get started on their day in the sun, where they saw that an appropriately stylish top down convertible would be taking them to the beach. After a scenic drive through the city, they finally arrived at their destination and stepped out onto the beach on a perfect sunny afternoon. There, they were greeted by an enthusiastic Carissa Moore, who congratulated them on winning the challenge and said she hoped they were both ready to catch some waves. Melody admitted in her confessional that she didn’t actually know surfing was an Olympic sport, with Moore saying it had been added only a few years ago, and giving them a bit of her backstory on how she got into surfing and became an Olympic athlete. Lauren said in her confessional that it was a huge inspiration to talk with an Olympian, as they shared the same dedication to their respective crafts, and she felt that she and Melody could learn a lot from this in addition to having a great time. With the introductions out of the way, Moore took the chefs out on the water, giving them basic tips on riding a board and eventually to standing. Melody kept falling, much to Lauren’s amusement, as a sheepish Melody said in her confessional that nobody was perfect. However, after a long afternoon of practice and a lengthy spell of trial and error, both chefs had improved somewhat, with Melody beaming in her confessional and saying she was having the time of her life right now, a sentiment which Lauren agreed with, as she said in her confessional that there was nowhere she’d rather be than here and now. After a deeply enjoyable afternoon for both chefs, they finally said goodbye to Moore, who wished them all the best going forward, and returned to Hell’s Kitchen just in time to witness the restaurant’s transformation.
While Melody and Lauren enjoyed a day of sun, fun and relaxation, the four remaining black jackets were left with the task of turning Hell’s Kitchen into a stunning venue for the 20th anniversary reunion. Michael was particularly disappointed, as he still felt like crap thanks to his hangover, and also had come up just short in the challenge, saying in his confessional that some time outside of Hell’s Kitchen could’ve really done him some good. Thomas was still upset, as he said in his confessional that Melody and Lauren could have all the fun they wanted, but he was going to work his ass off and make sure he stood out in service. Faye and Ramona were also disappointed in their performances, though Faye said in her confessional that Ramona seemed to be taking it the worst, and she tried to encourage the younger chef to bounce back in service. Ramona was still feeling down on herself though, but said in her confessional that Faye was right, and the best thing she could do now was get locked in and try to move on from her performance in the challenge. Once the chefs had finished cleaning the kitchen and dining room, it was time to start decorating. Faye tried to keep the mood light by saying this was going to be the prettiest Hell’s Kitchen dining room in its 20 year history, getting a smile from Ramona. Meanwhile, Michael was struggling to get the decorations right and constantly asked for help. Thomas told them to focus as they didn’t have much time and still had to prep the kitchen, and said in his confessional that he felt like a babysitter right now.
Pre-Service
Melody and Lauren returned to Hell’s Kitchen to find their fellow chefs wrapping up prep. Ramsay then gathered all six black jackets in the dining room and told them that for tonight’s service, not only would they be serving a dining room full of former Hell’s Kitchen chefs for the restaurant’s 20th anniversary, but they would also be competing against a handpicked team of chefs whom Ramsay held in the highest regard. With that, Ramsay announced that the first chef cooking in the blue kitchen tonight was…Season 21 winner Alex Belew. The chefs watched in awe as the door to Ramsay’s office swung open and Alex walked down the stairs. Lauren said in her confessional that Alex was an amazing winner and she couldn't wait to compete against him. Following Alex were Season 19 winner Kori Sutton, Season 20 winner Trenton Garvey, Season 16 winner Kimberly-Ann Ryan, Season 13 winner LaTasha McCutchen, and Season 12 winner Scott Commings. With the six former winners now lined up opposite the black jackets, Ramsay assured his current proteges that he was not going easy on them in the slightest, and tonight was all about showing how far they had come as chefs and leaders when stacked up against elite competition.
Thomas was excited for this opportunity in his confessional, as he said he thrived off going against the best of the best, and he hoped the past winners were ready to pass the torch to the current chefs after tonight. Lauren was similarly excited, and said this was the perfect chance for her to prove to Ramsay that she was more than good enough to join the ranks of the champions. The winners themselves were equally pumped up, with Scoot saying in his confessional that after over a decade away, it was great to be back in Hell’s Kitchen for such a special occasion. Kori said in her confessional that these rookies might put up a good fight, but she and her teammates were winners for a reason. Alex expressed similar thoughts aloud, as he teased the current chefs by saying they could learn more from defeat than victory. Faye warned him not to speak too soon, while Michael said that this was their kitchen now. With both teams appropriately fired up and ready to go, Ramsay told them that tonight, he wanted to see two perfect services, as their fellow chefs deserved nothing but the best, then dismissed them to their respective kitchens.
Finally, Ramsay called Marino over and told him to open Hell’s Kitchen for its 20th anniversary reunion night.
Dinner Service
The doors of Hell’s Kitchen opened for this very special service, and as a sea of familiar faces streamed into the dining room, Ramsay told the chefs that everyone here was a VIP, and urged them to give their fellow HK alumni a night to remember. The former chefs were seated, with Ed from season 7 saying it felt strange to be back here again and not being the one getting yelled at. Rochelle from season 12 was already having a great time with the former chefs at her table, as they were all laughing and looking forward to their meal. Soon, tickets began to work their way back to both kitchens.
In the red kitchen, the black jacket team had Thomas and Ramona on appetizers, Melody on fish, Lauren on garnish, and Michael and Faye on meat. Early on, Thomas had no issues serving up his capellini on schedule along with Ramona’s risotto and Melody’s scallops, and the black jackets got off to a good start by getting their first table of appetizers out with no hiccups. The black jackets would settle into a rhythm from there, as they were able to keep a steady flow of appetizers going out into the dining room to pleased past chefs, with Declan from season 19 saying he was loving it so far, while Carmen from season 22 joked that it could use some more salt. Back in the kitchen though, the kitchen started to slow down thanks to Ramona serving up two bland, undercooked risottos, and dragging on all of her orders. Thomas was getting annoyed and said in his confessional that he didn’t have time to be constantly cleaning up after Ramona’s mistakes, as they were all supposed to be elite chefs at this stage. Despite his frustration, though, he helped Ramona with her risottos and impressed Ramsay with his leadership from appetizers. Melody was able to communicate well with him and served nicely cooked scallops throughout the night. Ramona served up another bland risotto though, and Ramsay schooled her for still not paying attention to the fine details at this stage of the game. She was finally able to recover with her next attempt, and the black jackets began firing entrees while still wrapping up appetizers.
In the blue kitchen, the winners were hoping to make their comeback to Hell’s Kitchen a successful one with Kori on appetizers, Trenton on fish, LaTasha on garnish, Alex and Kim Ryan on meat, and Scott acting as a floater. Early on, Kori and Trenton were able to get into a groove with their apps, sending out beautifully cooked risottos, capellini and scallops, as Trenton said in his confessional that it was just like riding a bike, and he hoped the rookies were ready to take a whooping tonight. The former champions did hit a snag though as Trenton and Kori got a bit mixed up on their times, and Trenton ended up falling behind on his scallops. Meanwhile, Kori served undercooked risotto, and Ramsay schooled them both for making such basic mistakes. Kori said in her confessional that it was time to stop messing around and get back on track. Trenton was still dragging, and Scott said in his confessional that nothing pissed Ramsay off more than a backed up kitchen, and he moved over to help out. With an assist from Scott, Trenton managed to catch up on his scallops, and the blue kitchen once again began sending out appetizers at a solid clip. Out in the dining room, the past chefs watched the teams competing with a mixture of amusement and secondhand anxiety, as Steve from season 20 said it was fascinating to see everything unfolding from the sidelines.
Back in the red kitchen, with the teams still neck and neck, the black jackets started firing off entrees. They got off to a rough start on their first ticket though, with Faye serving up undercooked lamb on the first table, while Michael was sluggish and still seemed out of it. Communication issues also arose between the meat station and Lauren on garnish, as she was ready well before they were. The overall energy in the kitchen seemed down, which Ramsay called out, as he told the chefs again that everyone was a VIP, and they needed to get their asses in gear. Michael said in his confessional that everything felt disorganized right now and it wasn’t helping his headache in the slightest. He did try to power through it though, and was finally able to get on the same page with Lauren, as he started to get back to his usual energetic self again. Meanwhile, Melody managed to serve up nicely cooked portions of John Dory and salmon along with scallops for the remaining appetizers, though she did get in some trouble for firing two halibut on a ticket where it wasn’t needed, but she bounced back quickly. Lauren continued to be vocal and drive tickets from the garnish station, while Michael did start getting it together, and after Ramsay praised his Wellingtons as being cooked perfectly, he said in his confessional that it was just the boost that he needed. Faye got in trouble again though for serving undercooked ribeye, and Lauren served a cold sauce for it. Ramona, who was still wrapping up appetizers, sent up a table of overcooked capellini and consistently dragged on orders. The black jackets fought through their problems, and finally managed to settle down into a solid groove and serve their remaining tables. Out in the dining room, Will from season 9 said that it was great to see the rookies not letting their heads go down and keeping up with the winners.
In the blue kitchen, the former winners were ready to begin firing entrees alongside their appetizers, with Alex and Kim Ryan on meat driving the tickets along with LaTasha on garnish. The winners had no troubles on their first table, as they continued their momentum from appetizers, but Kim Ryan sent up raw ribeye, and got mixed up with LaTasha on their timing. Trenton, who was now working both apps and entrees, said in his confessional that the ladies needed to get their shit together, because he was not going to let anything ruin this reunion night. Thanks to Scott stepping in to call out times for the vets and help Trenton on fish, food once again began to leave the kitchen at a steady pace. Meanwhile, Kori was able to continue sending out appetizers without any issues, and the champions seemed to be on course for a smooth service. Alex had an unexpected mistake, though, as he served up overcooked Wellingtons, which he kicked himself for in his confessional, saying there was no excuse for screwing up a dish they had cooked every night in Hell’s Kitchen. Alex was able to bounce back quickly, and along with Kim Ryan, got the meat station back on track. LaTasha, meanwhile, had success calling out times and keeping the kitchen running from garnish after the earlier communication issues, as she said in her confessional that everyone here was a pro, and they knew how to close a service out. Sure enough, the winners seemed to only get stronger as the night wore on, talking to each other and sending out entrees to satisfied Hell’s Kitchen alumni. In the dining room, season 18 winner Ariel joked that she was enjoying the show and getting some great food out of it too. With the vets now firing on all cylinders, they managed to finish sending out the rest of their entrees.
Ramsay told both teams to clear down, then had them join him in the dining room.
Post-Mortem
Ramsay started out by telling the chefs that tonight was all about honoring the storied past of Hell’s Kitchen, and despite their struggles, both kitchens had managed to do that by finishing strong and delivering what he hoped was a great service. At this, the guests in the dining room applauded and cheered loudly. Ramsay then said it was time to turn to the matter of the winning team, which would be decided by customer satisfaction cards handed out in the dining room. After tallying the scores, Ramsay said there was one team who had the edge. First, he read out the score of the returning winners. Their tables had given them a 93% satisfaction rating. Next, he turned to the current black jackets, and said that their tables had given them…an 87% rating. This made the past champions the winners of service, which they took with huge smiles as their fellow chefs, including the current black jackets, applauded them. LaTasha got a bit emotional in her confessional and said that it felt great to get one last win in Hell’s Kitchen, on the 20th anniversary no less, while Scott said in his confessional that being able to deliver a great service to their fellow chefs meant just as much as winning had. Lauren was disappointed in her confessional, but had to hand it to the returning winners, as she said they simply performed better and deserved the win.
With the results announced, Ramsay told the black jackets to say goodbye to the past winners, and to everyone else in attendance. Once the crowd had cleared out, Ramsay brought the chefs back into the kitchen and had them line up like normal, telling them that it was close, but close would no longer be good enough, and there were still too many inconsistencies here given that it was supposed to be the best of the best. With that said, he instructed the black jackets to have a good, long discussion about which two they felt should be on the chopping block tonight, and dismissed them to the dorms.
Back in the dorms, the discussion began with Thomas saying that Ramona had been the clear weak link on apps, and it wouldn’t be right for anyone to go up before her. The others quickly seemed to agree, with Lauren saying that she still seemed to get overwhelmed, and it was clear by now that she wasn’t ready to take the next step. Ramona admitted she had the worst service, but announced Faye and Michael as her nominees given that they had been inconsistent on the meat station. Michael argued back that he may have had a bit too much to drink last night, but he was still vocal and fought back. Thomas agreed with Faye going up, though, saying that by this point, it wasn’t about your experience in Hell’s Kitchen, but what you did with it. Faye agreed that she could have done better, but still felt that Ramona was their weakest chef, as much as she hated to say it. Ramona became frustrated, saying this same routine had been going on for weeks and she was tired of hearing it, as she went off to the bedroom, and Melody went in after her to try to offer some comfort. Melody told her that she had been a fighter throughout the competition and not to give up on herself now.
Elimination Ceremony
The black jackets entered the dining room and lined up, and Ramsay started off by saying that he had expected more from his top six, especially given the occasion, and it was frustrating to watch at times when he knew that their potential was much higher than what they were showing. With that said, he asked Melody for the black jacket team’s first nominee and why. Melody announced that the black jackets had decided to put up Ramona, due to having struggled the most in services to this point. Ramsay asked for the second nominee and why. Melody seemed to hesitate a bit, but finally announced that Faye was the second nominee, due to having problems on the meat station. Ramsay accepted the nominations and called Ramona and Faye forward.
Deliberation music
Ramsay first asked Ramona why she should stay in Hell’s Kitchen.
Ramona: “Chef, I’ve had a long journey in this competition, from signature dish to where I am now. I didn’t always have this belief in myself, but having been through it all, now I know that I belong here, I deserve this black jacket, and I believe I have the potential to be the head chef you’re looking for.”
Ramsay moved on to Faye, asking why she should stay in Hell’s Kitchen.
Faye: “I'm disappointed in my performance tonight, chef, and I know you are too. The important thing though, is that I don’t let those mistakes get to me. I feel like I have the composure that Ramona maybe doesn’t at this point, and I think that’s what sets me apart. I expect a lot better from myself, and if you give me another chance, I’ll show you.”
Ramsay struck a thoughtful pose, as he said that he had a very difficult choice ahead of him, but at last, he was ready to make it.
Ramsay: “My decision is…”

Ramsay: “Faye…I expect a lot better too. And I need to see it soon, because I can’t go on much further. Back in line!”
A relieved Faye rushed back to rejoin the other black jackets, while Ramsay turned his attention to Ramona.
Ramsay: “Ramona…step forward, darling. I think we both know that you are not quite ready to become the next head chef of Gordon Ramsay Steak.”
Elimination music
Ramona stepped up and handed over her jacket.
Ramsay: “Let me tell you this: you do have potential, a lot of it. I could see that from your very first dish. Unfortunately, it’s consistency and leadership that I’m looking for, and I haven’t seen enough of it. What you’ve got to do now is keep going. Don’t stay down. Fight back, and become the chef I know you can be.”
Ramona thanked Ramsay as he hugged her, and she waved goodbye to her fellow chefs before leaving Hell’s Kitchen.
Ramona’s comment and montage
Flashback to signature Signature Dish challenge
Ramsay: ‘Your name, young lady?”
Ramona: “Ramona, chef.”
Ramsay: “Ramona, that dish is absolutely stunning, it’s a clear five.”

Ramona: “It’s been one hell of a ride here in Hell’s Kitchen. I’m young, I don’t have the experience of some of my fellow chefs, and that was an obstacle I had to overcome.”

Flashback to various services
Ramsay: “Good god almighty…RAMONA! It’s still raw!”
Ramsay: “Hey, you, take a look at that, what the fuck is that?! Do you want to go home right now?”
Ramsay: “Oh come on, Ramona, this is your course, they need to hear you!”

Ramona: ‘Was it a struggle to work with my fellow chefs at times? Oh hell yeah. But I never backed down.”
Flashback to chefs in dorms
Grace: “So you’re gonna stand there and say you deserve to be here more than me after that service, really?!”
Ramona: “Hey, look, I served my tables, I owned my mistakes! And guess what? I work with the team. T-E-A-M, honey, I know that doesn’t mean anything to you!”

Ramona: “If there’s one thing I’ve taken away from all this, it’s that being a head chef is a lot harder than I thought it would be. You have to work your ass off, and I did. Even though I’m walking away empty handed, Chef did recognize my potential.”
Flashback to various services and challenges
Ramsay: “Beautifully cooked, Ramona! Keep the bar up there!”
Ramona: “Yes, chef!”
Ramsay: ‘The immunity pass goes to…Ramona, well done, young lady, that dish was fantastic.”
Ramsay: “Ramona, great sear on those scallops!”

Ramona: “He may not think I’m ready now, but I know that one day, I’ll get there.”

With Ramona’s elimination, Ramsay remarked that there were just five left standing, a fourth of the original field of 20, and while they had held their own against the winners and given them a decent run, their services going forward needed to be even better if they wanted to become the next head chef of Gordon Ramsay Steak. With that, he told them to go back to the dorms and rest up, because the competition was just going to get more and more intense with each passing day, and each of them now had a one in five chance of reaching their dream.
As the chefs went back upstairs, each of them had a confessional. Michael said that from now on, he was fully locked in and done with partying until his door opened, as he had a restaurant to win, and nothing was going to get in his way. Lauren said that even small mistakes could get you sent home at this point, and she would simply have to trust her skill and composure under pressure to carry her through. Faye said that she had just had another close brush with elimination, and knew she needed a Texas-sized comeback tomorrow to show Ramsay that she was far from done. Melody said that she could never have imagined getting this far when she first walked in, but now, she couldn’t imagine walking out with anything less than a head chef position at Gordon Ramsay Steak. Finally, Thomas said that with Ramona gone, it was down to the five truly strong chefs, but he was completely confident that whatever challenges Ramsay threw at them, he was the best equipped to handle them and take home the prize.

2024.06.09 03:53 DistributionOk5166 My Story with no justice…

When I (21M) got into a relationship with my partner (20F), it was awesome. Then she involved her friends in the relationship. She came off as very codependent (“I’m very attached”) to her friends, even saying her friends (20F) are never wrong (you’re gonna see some red flags here that I was stupid to ignore). Met one of her friends - wonderful guy not a bad bone in his body, hope all of them could be Ike that. She expressed (I don’t even know jokingly) that her girl friends were jealous that she got a boyfriend - yet she wanted us to be friends.
I have never met such hypocritical people in my life on first meet. They would criticize my career (I earn decent money in school), my race (they continually called me a brown boy), the fact I didn’t drink underage, they would question my validity as a partner in earshot much to my partner’s silence. They would criticize my colloquialism after poking fun at me- I would say “shut the fuck up” when a funny story came up while laughing. They would tell my partner (not me) that they didn’t like it (happy to not say it if it makes them feel uncomfortable) but then they proceeded to tell me to shut the fuck up with impunity. The double standards sucked. The dishing out but not being able to take it sucked. I was always made to be the villain. When I brought these up to my partner - “Oh you feel that way because they have siblings, and you’re an only child”. They showed up to my apartment unannounced when I was on a date with my partner (I live on the 3rd story). After the date was over, they would make plans to go out and say “This is a friends only thing”.
I held my tongue for a lot of disrespect. The people were openly known in their friend group to be third wheels in the relationship. They used to call me a b-word and a groomer (because I had friends who were 2 years younger than me). I used to call the main instigator a horseface after she made fun of my forehead and looks. But then it was too far. They could say whatever to me but the moment I come back I’m in the wrong.
They would openly ask my partner “Did he even get girls before you” to which my partner felt she had to defend her “choice” in me. My partner had told me that we won’t talk about our sex life. I was like yeah ofc. Her friends then started to tease me with info from our sex life - and they didn’t hear it from me. I confronted her on this and she was like “Oh it was a wine night and we started talking”. It was all ok until she started downplaying my skills. Then when her friends made fun of me with this info - I would then make fun of myself and then they would go to her saying that THEY were feeling uncomfortable about ME making fun of MYSELF.
They would cause fights to the point where I’m crying and hoping I’m no more. I would dream they would make fun of me so much - I would get up and walk out (I actually did this once but chalked it up to having to take a phone call).
They would compare me to their brothers and fathers. Token me for my race but then ask me to set them up with someone from my race. They would make fun of my career, yet ask me to get them a job. I tried to play nice with these people. On my own birthday, one of these girls was stressing out over organizing a career fair, I walked 40 minutes to help her out. These people would cause fights between us and I would apologize to them about stuff they do to me all the time saying “I just want to be accepted by the group”.
Worst part came when her friends pulled switchblades out on a moving bus as a joke and were brandishing it. I was the only voice of reason telling these people to stop, protecting my partner, motioning others to sit down and telling them that the group can get in so much trouble because of their idiotic behavior. Yet all her friends laughed at the fact I was getting serious. One of her friends had come up to me afterwards and showed me her palm, laughing. It was blood- she had cut her hands on the blades trying to play with the knives. Laughing.
Whether it was them blacking out drunk, headbutting each other, and touching each other inappropriately- I need to make sure no one falls behind or gets in trouble. Her friends would smack me for sitting on their bed by accident just to charge my phone near the wall. Everyone would laugh.
Her friends dressed up during Halloween as red flags (can’t make this up) and they kept making racial remarks to my friend. “Dance white boy”, “bathroom’s over there white boy”, etc. He took it as a joke the first few times but then started to feel uncomfortable. He told me wayyyy too late that this is what he experienced.
One day, I had fallen through my chair and winced in pain to which they laughed. I had enough of their immaturity, their laughter at my pain, their double standards, and their unresolved hatred. I thought since these people frequently call me out for every small thing (albeit behind my back), I can confront them directly and fairly (never confronted them on their behavior before). I asked them to treat me with some respect and just apologize. My partner stood silent as they continue to make insulting and demeaning faces at me and avoid the issue. I had a freeze response. I could not get any more words out of my mouth. Then my hypervigilance took a toll on me 30 seconds later in the form of an extreme panic attack (first one ever) where I cried and clutched my chest on a train. They stared indifferently. I sat crying with the doctor hugging me, while they called an Uber to go to a bar. They called the paramedics- they were heroes. I had enough, went up and yelled some disgusting things at the main instigator, who was making disgusting invalidating faces at me while I was approaching her for accountability. Called her a horsefaced. Told her “Why should I die on the train? You go kill yourself!”
My partner threatened to break up with me if her friends had told her to and told me I wasn’t fit to meet her dad. The next day, her friends guilt tripped her “You made a choice to go home with him instead of come with us to the bar”. They talked about how it was “bizarre” why I was so kind to the doctors and the paramedics yet yelled at them.
Partner said “Oh they have panic attacks all the time”. “It must have been caused by something else”. “They make those faces even when their relative died”. “There was a girl who doesn’t like her because she didn’t apologize to her properly”. “She thinks you’re attacking her face - just like her dad and uncles”.
I had tried to apologize several times but they shut the door in my face and asked me to stand to the side or avoid any communication. A few days later, the pain in my chest was tough. I went to the doctor, got some tests and was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia as a result of the panic attack. When she told her friends, they said “we don’t care he had a heart attack, we care more about what he yelled at us afterwards”.
Then blame was shifted. I was the scapegoat. They were the ultimate victim. The whole group - people who didn’t even have anything to do with the situation brought up 9 month old issues that I had apologized for. I was ready to apologize for it all again. I begged my partner if I could fight for my story since she was sweeping everything under the rug. She told me “They don’t want to hear your side of the story - they don’t want to see you ever again”. Ganged up. They said I brought too many bad memories to the group.
When I asked my partner why she lets such people run from accountability for their actions. She said how her father told her to never give up on her friends. How her father lets his friends insult him and his wife till she cries. And that was his takeaway.
I ended up breaking up with her and getting a CPTSD diagnosis. They got away…

2024.06.09 03:13 kellzbells86 Harrods Dream Job From home! BEWARE!!

I was looking up work online and came across this uspickeswell.com I believe was the site, you can Google it. It asks for your WhatsApp number, I know red flag, but I am studying Cyber Security Engineering, and hate scammers so I thought I'd go fourth. The deal is you receive a recruit manager you're given 5-7 days trial/probation period after those days, you become a regular employee and gain $300 bonus and $2000 salary. They used harrodsnig.com I again was investigating if and what the scam is so I took note. They say we're going to let you do 38 tasks on our profile so you can earn salary because with the $10 sign up you're at insufficient funds to complete any tasks. Okay, cool. You do the 38 "tasks" (Clicking buy on orders at random and leaving 5 star review) again, I know, wrong! Also she had to get me into the server with a login id which is supposed to be your phone number and originally when messaging she wrote voc de Kelly or something I'm assuming French, and the phone number is one digit from being a real phone number at least with US country code. It didn't log in at first so I'm like ugh busted! Tell her, she's one number sht she says send screenshots I do where it shows +1 then her number missing one digit I later look even closer it's basically my number minus a digit adding a 2. But she insists she slipped up saying it's the company's account it will go through! I say you need to tell me your country code she says why I say because that counts as part of your login, she insists on keeping the same, frustrated, I enter it one more time ... Success!
Now she said she had to deposit five hundred dollars she that's what get account said, I realized after the slip of saying it's a company account, it was not hers but an account for my personal case. It goes till she gets some package order they call it, where she has to go and deposit I think it was $450 to clear the frozen account. She sens me the transfer ticket I put it through and it clears saying .15c available it was at $779 with earned commission of$235 or somewhere close don't analyze my math, I'm doing this from memory!
It doesn't let me finish her tasks because if insufficient funds I'm thinking man this poor girl is getting scammed too and maybe had just got promoted to showing people how to do it. She puts more in I get done she said go into your account. I think aren't we going to have to withdraw from her account, because she said I'm getting 25% of the money I just made her.
Well mine said the new amount of sixty dollars she swears after this we're going to withdraw cuz she said the whole time you don't pay upfront and you will make money on your training about $40 so I figure I'm going to go until they say deposit and hey let's see if you can make the $40!
See these things are ordered and you're given the principal back plus one percent then due earned commission because I watch the numbers go up as you're clicking is in deed about 10% hitting about 7$ each time and the other product return which is suppose to return your deposit but only 5% that was not seen to me. But you're ordering she said no products to to you. And you are depositing your money after you hit a price bracket that isn't convered by your "salary" cuz literally the products are say $22 3 units for $66 I had 72or something at that time for instance you click buy logically you're going to be at 6$ balance. Nope not on here, which red flag, no site reimburses that fast, ok? I mean there was no filing for a reimbursement nothing! Su I figure ugh this is kinda like an nft if you think of it these empty shell of pictures now have a value I mean even ponzi scheme make money!
It's just a pool where everyone puts in money and if you got there first you get a little more than the last guy! Nope not this not even that!
I continue and I earned $94 that first day. I go to do second day I had fallen asleep several times on her and I figure I'm just going to cash out and go I still had access to the account I made$235 for but they have a withdraw password. I tried to get the people to hello me withdraw she never said you had to have $100 in your account but here it says you have to be vip to withdraw, but true so for y'all's sake, I ventured on. I was going to go to complete road block or hit the withdraw!!
So yeah I couldn't clear her tasks from the day before out, she had to recharge for$500 again so I could earn and get I figure just keep a minimum of $65 I'm after withdrawing because then your going to always have that base amount. I did feel like I was playing Press your luck. You remember, no whammies no whammies, stop! Lol
I even say what if I am in the middle of doing these tasks and I get one of those "package deals" where you are upped to the next price range for a bulk order and I've not withdrawn cuz it'll freeze your account till you recharge. (No Whammies! No Whammies!) Whew, no whammies!! Huh!?! Ikr?
Well I'm at $217 I can actually withdraw! I have to use Meta mask she tells me and she's going to tell me how to withdraw! Well it says as I figured out yesterday it needs a binder wallet and yes I'm an IT student but never messed with crypto personally before. And so she said crypto So she does that sh I'm like uh oh here we go ... Well hers looks different than mine as I'm screenshotting I still do not what exactly but it was just a smudge off and then I go and im not aware of how to hook my bank or pay pal to it but i do know that they take crypto she's adamant about this being Meta mask but anyway i go to put in the withdrawal Password i had made the night before when i knew i had to have $100! It does NOT WORK! I ask customer care and there's no other place to reset your password well they so nicely say, your password is your responsibility you need to put it in a safe spot and all this. So I'm like ugh that's the scheme get you to order all these products so they money launder and keep your money basically a store gets sales for sales it's not making.... No she flips out then they make comments about it. I change the password and on I go I don't know crypto but the girl had me chance the currency on my address things to state BTC when I did have etc as an option I go back to meta mask (again first time doing any BTC or anything no one in this area uses that to know anything and I'm pretty aware touched on it in marketing just about how it's an economy without infrastructure etc not these small details) Now it's not showing up ... I freak out saying is that it's just gone I knew you had me put the wrong thing in what if it was wrong am I just out she says something and the system resetting idk her answers didn't even correlate with the conversation around the time I got to these questions and saying I read that Meta doesn't take BTC and all that IDK I'm off exploring what I can while she I feel is leading me down a dead end ... I couldn't imagine being a 50-60 year old going thru this because also it's not unlikely to do a secret shopper job or merchant audit and be required to pay something and have to get reimbursed. Well I get a message as I'm getting upset saying I'm going to have to wait 24hrs there was a withdraw refund! Customer service get mad at me saying we told you 24 hrs you hace to wait week ok I go about my day I do get tasks yesterday, make my money I'm on my tasks it gets stuck at $391! Its -83$ and I say I absolutely didn't have it she can't give it to me or she will be fined or fired I say you could add a friend thru a private account if she wanted to.
But anyway I am thinking about it and I'm sold that ok I did make the error with the password Knowing that I knew what I put and I've tried everything, I still get my finance to get me the $ he put$90 on which I put it in cash app I'm not giving em access to a real bank. But I do 90 so I will have enough for fees she says put in$93 she didn't even have time to look at my account to see what was owed I mean mind you when im doing any little thing she needed a screen shot which this makes it so much easier for me now to report it and yes it was on what's app but think that's so you don't have to pay international fees same as with Bitcoin.
But she said that I say well I'm going to put$85 they'll surcharge the rest. She says screen shot I didn't know what I'm doing and it brings up an offer I'm trying to tell her you gotta stop texting me cuz it's giving me like fifteen seconds to confirm to continue with this girl. It goes back to the beginning I had to re insert everything! Luckily no money had been transferred but I click sardine and it asks me how much I put $85 her offer said $83.67 one below was $83.26 idk any of this so please tell me if what I'm thinking was correct or if you think it would have been ok ... I click it and before I can add my credit card I'm asked to put in my driver's license and do the selfie which that freaks me out after the putting in money cuz they know the location
Well it comes back Insufficient funds and to add more to finalize to purchase$85! Not that I had insufficient funds on my card that I had to pay more for$85! Or to get$83.67 Idk!!
The whole thing freaked me out thinking about the password, the likeness to meta mask but hers being Even different can't they "spoof" where you and your entire network will download the cloned app? IDK if not I just still had a bad feeling.
*Which I told em I'm with homeland security and do cyber security engineering and that's a dummy identification and was investigating them and gave them a list of infractions.
She gave me this whole confession kind of and then I screenshot since she loved them...
"Can a scammer go to to prison" and it saying 1-30 years etc And
"Can you track a scammer"
She replied *Blah, bye!
So yeah who do I turn this into and should I contact Harrods?
I'm pretty proud of it even if not the scam it's sketchy enough. I mean I'm thinking it still might've made me some money but I know that's how they lure you. And seriously what if a middle aged or young age kid encounters this, yes very elaborate!

Red Dragon VFT is sick
The traps on my red dragon turn black before they’re even done developing, I’ve tried repotting from soil to spag moss and then a few months later with no change I brought it to a nursery to see if they can fix it, they repotted so it wasn’t down so deep in the pot and exposed more of the plant to allow it to breathe but a couple months later it’s still doing the same thing. I keep their dishes full of water until it dries out for a few days then water them again, they sit in full spectrum lights and a humidifier for 12 hrs a day… can anyone help me?

2024.06.09 00:36 jitske4me Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg feel more like winter spices, warming the soul. What would you say are your summer spices? To bring that summer vibe to your dish?

Like the title. Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg I associate more with hearthy apple crumble, stews, mash etcetera. Adding it to a dish just really gives me that warm cozy winter vibe. Although I do use them in summer of course.
So what do you use to make your dish more summery? Not a spice but my go tos are lemon zest and fresh herbs, especially parsley, mint, chives. Although I can’t really think of a spice that would give that summer vibe.
What are your go to spices/herbs to make you feel like it’s summer?
Edit: couldn’t think of any summer spices myself. Do they exist? But besides that also just curious about other ingredients you use for that summer flavor.
Edit 2: I went to sleep when there were 12 comments and woke up to this. Love all the reactions and fresh new ideas. Will read and respond during my Sunday breakfast (:
Edit 3: This question came of when thinking of how to make a summer twist on my apple crumble (besides adding red fruit/nectarines). Have some inspiration that I’ll try out today!
Edit 4: Compiling a list of everything mentioned, will update with some often mentioned flavors!

Edit 5: Ok here we go. Please respond to this comment if you have suggested changes to the list! https://www.reddit.com/Cooking/comments/1dbeq35/cinnamon_clove_nutmeg_feel_more_like_wintel7tfws5/.

The consensus seems to be: Warming spices, cooling herbs. Made an overview of what was often mentioned!
However, there were some spices mentioned that give that summer vibe.

Spices
Spices (mentioned often): sumac, coriander seed, cardamom, saffron
Spices (mentioned less): Mustard, Paprika, Cumin, anise, white pepper, pink peppercorn, fennel seeds
Spices I hadn’t heard of: Pepperberry, saltbush, wattleseed, lemon myrtle,
Spice blends from the American continent: Tajin, Old bay, Lemon pepper, BBQ spices
Other spice blends: Berbere, Za’atar

Herbs
Herbs (mentioned often): Dill, Cilantro, Basil, Mint, Lemon Balm, Parsley, Taragon, Lavender, Lemon verbena, Thai basil
Herbs (mentioned less): Marjoram, oregano
Herbs that people describe as both summer as fall: rosemary, sage, thyme
Herbs I hadn’t heard of: Pineapple sage

Other fresh flavors
Citrus (zest): Lemon, lime, orange, mandarin
Green onions, chives
Chilis
Asian “herbs”: Kaffir lime leave, lemon grass
Ginger (fresh), Tumeric (fresh)

Honorable mentions
Not herbs/spices, but found them interesting to include • Raw red onion • Feta • Dandelion • Sundried tomatoes • Smoke flavor • Coconut • Strawberry • Honey • Poppy seeds • Pomegranate • Chimichurri

Things unknown to me
But that did sound interesting. Not sure where to add in above: • Celery seed, All spice, Summer savory, Chaat masala, Black salt, Hickory, celeriac leaves, Chervil, Savory, Lovage

2024.06.08 22:17 potterwho79 It's hard to be a patient

I've finished 12 rounds of Taxol that went as well as I could ask. A few manageable side effects, but life stayed fairly normal. Yesterday was my first day of AC, and I'm feeling deceptively well today. It's taking my whole family (husband and 2 daughters, ages 15 and 12) to prevent me from pushing myself too hard too fast. I need to rest, and hydrate, and take care of myself. Instead, I feel guilty that I'm not able to watch the girls march today in their first marching band parade of the summer, even though 1) we were clear with them when they started marching band that we couldn't make it to all the parades, 2) nobody was planning on me going to this parade, 3) my on-body Neulasta device will be delivering my medicine during the parade time, 4) the girls don't generally like us to come to first performances (like opening night of plays) because that's where the kinks get worked out, 5) nobody is pushing for this except me.
My girls are totally understanding. My husband, who went through his own full cancer treatment 9 years ago which included the "red devil", has no illusions that I'm going to be fit for "normal" activities during this part of chemo. In my head, I logically know that the best thing I can do to help my family right now is to take care of Momma. The normal division of household chores is split so nicely that the only thing that needs to be picked up by others right now is the laundry. (Husband cooks, kids handle dishes, cleaning can wait.) I'm trying to take it easy, but it's mentally challenging to not feel like I'm useless. It would be 100 times harder if my family was pressuring me, too, so I'm grateful to not have that piled on.
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. I know some of my sisters in the shtty ttty comittee can relate.

2024.06.08 22:10 Samwich_Ganja DREAMLIGHT VALLEY IMPROVEMENT IDEAS

This is a comprehensive list of what I believe to be the most needed quality of life improvements for the players that still maintains the developers intended gameplay balance. If anyone has ideas of things to add, remove, or change to this list, sound off in the comments. I am not affiliated with Game Loft in any way and have no sway over their decisions, but maybe we can all make our voices heard and let them know what we want moving forward (after the latest bugs and crashes are fixed of course).
General Gameplay
  1. Not requiring villagers to be in your current area (valley/isle) in order to get their profession bonus
  2. Increase the surface area of tables (4 square tables shouldn't have a 1 square tabletop considering that the top is the widest part of most tables)
  3. No more limit on how many mannequins can be placed in a single room and the ability to place them outside
  4. Add a recycle function for all crafted items that costs dreamlight/star coins and gives you all your resources back, or is free but only partially refunds resources.
  5. Critter and villager schedules should be tied to an in game clock so people with fixed schedules don't lose access to certain characters/critters
  6. Every week should have a new quest that can earn you a furniture/wardrobe item so people who can't afford moonstones have a reason to log on every week (and give people who have finished all the quests ways to continue interacting with the villagers)
  7. Add a job board that allows you to assign villagers to gather one selected resource for you related to their profession (1 villager at a time per profession, the more valuable the resource you choose the longer it takes to generate it, can only gather up to a certain amount that depends on item value, can only gather resources related to their profession, and the items won't count toward your duties)
  8. Add a friendship level to all unlocked critter companions that can be increased by equipping, petting, playing with(with the play wheel or other critter toys), and feeding them (with food bowls). The levels of this friendship will unlock new features like the ability to gather items around you (as long as they are still highlighted blue), and place/pose them for all stances in photo mode (not just the critter stance); this would also apply to critters in companion homes, not just ones equipped in the wardrobe menu
  9. If a player is in range to interact with anything that isn't their critter, prioritize that over petting their critter
  10. All furniture with an animation should cycle indefinitely until toggled off by the player (especially fireworks)
  11. Give Daisy's challenges the same reset schedule as Scrooges shop instead of a 24 hour timer
  12. Allow feeding critters to count towards dreamlight duties even if you have already fed them that day
  13. No repeat memories.
  14. Alternative to no repeat memories is to have the repeats go into your inventory so that you can trade them with other players to help each other complete them
  15. You shouldn't be able to get nothing or a trivial amount of star coins from digging. Every time you dig you should get 1-3 resources or a small chance for a chest
  16. Add an option to switch off bonuses in the bonus menu (ex. you want to fish from white ripples or mine a gem vein when you're saving your pickaxe charges for stone or iron)
  17. Add an FOV (Field of view) Slider in the options menu
  18. Allow us to visually change the weather like the time of day (ex. make it rain without watering our crops for free or being able to catch fugu) and add a weather icon in the HUD so we know when it's actually raining even if we have rain turned off or fake rain turned on (HUD is only changed if we have manually changed the weather visuals)
  19. Allow skin color to be applied individually to our male and female avatars like every other aesthetic aspect in the wardrobe section
  20. Allow us to remove villager houses from the valley or make the valley bigger by expanding biomes or adding new ones. It has to happen eventually because you can't have infinite growth in a finite world (you would still have to place their house somewhere if you wanted to spawn them in to hang out or do their quests)
  21. Alternatively you could add a hotel run by some Disney/Pixar character (My vote is Snow White as the owner with the 7 dwarves as staff). You can upgrade the hotel to increase its capacity up to 10-20 rooms. You would then be allowed to remove up to that many houses, moving the occupants to the hotel. But you would first need to do a quest for every household that requires you to decorate a hotel room themed towards the house. You would be required to meet tag requirements that match the house such as traits that it has and the Disney universe it's from so the occupants feel at home (similar to Daisy's boutique challenge) IDEA CREDIT GOES TO USER - Euraylie
  22. Allow players to reskin villager houses. Adding more ways for us to blend them with our valley builds IDEA CREDIT GOES TO USER - Noggindrilln
  23. Save makeup to a mannequin along with clothes when editing it so we don't have to manually change our makeup every time we change our outfit
  24. Allow us to visually change large chests into other storage items we have unlocked, including TOM items (to allow players to make more creative and aesthetically pleasing storage areas)
  25. Stop making non quest items unsellable. They take up valuable space in your storage (ex. night shards, training manuals, etc.)
  26. Pathing fill button. Much like how we can hold a button to delete all connected pathing, we should be able to make a pathing outline and hold a button while selecting one of the outer pathing to completely fill the inner area
  27. Make smart transfer completely fill all stacks inside storage while leaving the remainder in your inventory (ex. don't leave a stack of 50 of an item in your inventory just because the storage can only hold 20 more. Put 20 in and leave 30 so we don't have to manually split the stack every time)
  28. Add a smart withdraw button so that you can transfer all items from storage that are already in your inventory
  29. Allow pathing to be placed 1 square at a time to allow closer placement to the edges of biomes and bodies of water
  30. Make craftable hedges that can be placed and extended like fences for custom sizing. Adding harvestable leaves that change with the real life seasons (Light green & flowery - spring, dark green - summer, Red/Yellow/Orange - autumn, snowy pine needles - winter) that can be used to craft the hedges along with wood and soil IDEA CREDIT GOES TO USER - Literary_Lady
  31. Craftable bird nests that can be placed in trees and hedges for your flying critters IDEA CREDIT GOES TO USER - Literary_Lady
  32. Allow players to flip the orientation of objects (ex. Assymetrical objects like the L-counters can be rotated, but the crook of the "L" always faces the same relative direction)
  33. Add a buyback function to Goofy's stall that allows you to buy back anything you may have sold accidentally within a certain time or item amount window
UI
  1. Add submenus for colors and patterns so you don't have a bunch of retextures clogging up your wardrobe and furniture menus (ex. You click on foodie loafers in your shoes and then a dropdown menu appears where you pick the color you want)
  2. Add sort functions (alphabetical, newest, oldest, etc.) and search baalphabetical section index (the side bar with the clickable letters that bring you to that letter) for all shop/furniture/wardrobe/cooking/crafting menus IDEA CREDIT GOES TO USER - NotSoEvilQueen for the section index
  3. Add furniture categories (ex. lighting, decor, etc.) for the furniture section of the crafting bench
  4. Show all tags for selected items regardless of whether or not you are in the dreamsnap category (this includes scrooges shop and crafting menu)
  5. Have all selected filter tags sorted the same way the dreamsnap section is (items with the most matching tags at top and fewest at the bottom instead of only items that match all selected tags)
  6. Add 2 item counts for selected items in the crafting bench menu (1 for items in your inventory/storage and 1 for items placed in your valley) so you know how many items you already have before making more
  7. Reset the crafting menu to the item you just crafted after crafting instead of auto scrolling back to the top
  8. All items that show up as pathing and fences in your furniture menu should also show up in that category at a crafting table (ex. bumblestone fences, zircon tiles, etc.)
  9. Have the back button hide the currently selected item in the shop and crafting menus instead of taking us out of the menu entirely (ex. when you select an item, it brings up a window on the right for that item. You can change the item by selecting a different one, but the only way to remove the window is to exit the menu altogether and reenter it without selecting an item)
  10. Add a dropdown menu for all trees and underbrush that have multiple variations so you can actually select which one you want to place
  11. Add a menu for selecting which memory to put on a frame/TV to replace the repetetive toggle
  12. Add a button that you can press in furniture mode while your cursor is over an item that takes you to the item in your inventory so you can quickly add copies of an item you've already placed
Cooking
  1. Add a section for restaurant orders in the cooking menu (only available when cooking in Chez Remy)
  2. Add an option to turn off cooking/meal animations to make cooking faster
  3. Allow us to select recipes from our history so we can autofill multiple copies of a dish with specific ingredients we've already used without having to manually select specific ingredients every time
  4. Add a toggle near the autofill button to use the most valuable non specified ingredients instead of the least valuable when auto filling (when cooking with the purpose of selling)
  5. Add an item counter so you know how many of a particular meal you already have in your inventory/storage before you make it
  6. Widen the cooking pot so that some of the longer food items don't get stuck at the top of the pot if dropped directly into the center (PC only)
  7. Classify almonds as dairy/oil like peanuts are instead of as a fruit
  8. Organize the "all meals" tab alphbetically (there are already tabs for each meal type, so the "all meals" tab doesn't need to be organized by meal type as well) IDEA CREDIT GOES TO USER - NotSoEvilQueen
Touch of Magic
  1. Every "Basic" item should have its own 50-100 TOM limit instead of having 50 for wardrobe and for furniture respectively. When entering the customize menu, you then have to select one of the basic items which takes you to a submenu where you can choose from your designs or a plus icon that you can select to create a new design for that particular item
  2. Remove the limit to how small and increase the limit of how large you can scale motifs
  3. Add the ability to scale length and width of motifs separately
  4. Remove the layer limit in TOM or at least increase it to 100
  5. Allow you to purchase TOM furniture from Scrooge with star coins, or make them craftable with resources, after you have purchased them from Daisy
  6. Add sign posts/billboards to daisy's shop
  7. Allow us to display multiple TOM items on a single mannequin. Or at least put generic clothes on the uncovered areas so I don't have a pantsless guy advertising my shirts
Photo/Dreamsnaps
  1. Add a dialogue option to any character (must be level 10 friendship with completed main friendship questline) you're hanging out with to get them to stand still and stop following you. Then when they are in this mode you can talk to them again to return them to normal function or select one of their poses or animations. Because they are also considered as no longer following you, you can do this with multiple characters to set up intricate dreamsnap scenarios
  2. Illumination radius for all lighting fixtures should be increased to make night shots more viable (and to generally improve the night time atmosphere)
  3. Allow players to hold tools in pictures (give people an incentive to purchase tools from premium shop)
  4. Have all TOM items disappear when you are in photo mode so they don't disqualify your dreamsnap attempt if you're not aware they're in frame
  5. Alternatively just allow TOM in dreamsnaps. If you can share them in Daisy's shop, why not in dreamsnaps
  6. Add a quest from Vanellope that gives you access to a virtual valley. You access it through a portal or computer and it brings you to an empty valley (no furniture, buildings, trees, etc.) so that you can set up outdoor dreamsnaps in it without destroying sections of your valley just to have to rebuild them again. You can't get resources in this valley and it resets every week for the new dreamsnap. All furniture is returned to your inventory, but any inventory items you may have placed would remain (all items placed on tables would be moved to the ground). There would also be an extra category in the furniture menu for spawning virtual villagers (only up to 1 of each villager you have unlocked)
  7. Get rid of outfit challenges. Having tag requirements for your outfit makes it difficult to craft an outfit that looks good and fits the theme for the week. Plus everybody already puts together an outfit to match the decor challenge and most people add decor to match the outfit challenge anyway. Just have tags for decor and outfits both apply to the current challenge
  8. Game Loft needs to be clear on exactly how tags and votes affect our score so we know how much we need to prioritize having a lot of tags over making a bettecleaner image to garner votes with.
  9. Increase the voting moonstones to 10-25 a day instead of 50 a week to incentivize more voting and daily log ins
  10. Add a 10-15 second timer to votes so people don't just vote randomly and actually have a reason to analyze each photo (would also benefit complex submissions that aren't easy to digest in 1 second and reward players for putting in more effort)
  11. Prevent NPC dialogue boxes from opening up while you're in photo mode
  12. Add a toggle when riding attractions to make them visible/invisible in photo mode
  13. Remove blinking from all player, critter, and NPC stances in photo mode
Online/Multiplayer
  1. Add the ability to interact with all ancient machines instead of just the cooker
  2. Multiplayer dreamsnaps (Dreamsnaps can still only be submitted by host to disallow multiple people submitting the same dreamsnap). Outfit tags from guest players will not contribute to the host's tag count
  3. Host player can still access furniture menu
  4. All players should be able to talk to villagers and do quests
  5. Allow all players to enter the host's house so we can give house tours as well as valley tours
  6. Allow fast travel
  7. Allow us to feed critters in other players valley without counting towards the hosts daily feeding limit
  8. Allow players to remove the Multiplayer hub if they don't want it or add the functions of the hub to the plaza well since it is a permanent fixture, and it is already how every other character enters your valley anyway
  9. Allow scramblecoin requests between players
DLC
  1. Add an "Excavator" to the ancient machines in the timbending table that can remove respawning clutter (holes, rocks, mushrooms, etc.) and give you the resources.
  2. No limit on how many ancient gardeners can be placed in one biome at a time
  3. Give auto cookers and gardeners the ability to generate memories
  4. Give the trolley tracks a function by letting the trolley move along them (so long as the track it's on is a closed loop) and maybe even add a train down the line. And give players the ability to ride them like the attractions.
  5. Allow us to move or turn off the timebending orbs that spawn across the isle and valley
  6. Add a coin flip to scramblecoin to determine who goes first (shake up the strategy meta a little)
  7. Increase scramblecoin rounds to 6 or have gold coins start spawning on round 3
  8. Allow players to dismantle timebending resources directly from our storage instead of requiring them to be in our inventory
  9. Allow players to select seeds from our storage while interacting with an ancient gardener instead of requiring them to be in our inventory
