Help with a Tattoo
Help with a Tattoo
I was told by a kind mod in the sindarin subreddit to post this here for more accurate info, I would love some advice. 2 and a half years ago now my family cat passed away and I have always wanted to get a tattoo in her memory, a few months ago I came up the the idea of her name in elvish script, only to find out that through research there are multiple types of elvish and things got confusing from there. I found two different sites that translate from English, one I found from a Tolkien subreddit, I can’t remember which one, and another I found by myself. I’m assuming it’s a transliteration (is that the right word?) rather than a translation which I do not mind, but I just wanted to make sure it actually said what I wanted it to say as it would be such a significant tattoo for me. My cat’s name was Roxy, I’ve attached screenshots of the translators

2024.05.29 03:34 Any-Willingness8436 What should I do now?

I need advice 9-1-1 I (f45) and my partner (m43) met 19 yrs ago through a mutual friend. It was love at first sight and we started talking and we both fell head over hills and decided to move in together since we couldn’t be apart for more than a week. We finally made the move and moved in together. He had a descent job and I was on the hunt for any kind of job. Since I had 2 daughters 9 and 5 at the time. He had 3 children m7 f5 and m of literally months. At the beginning it was bumpy but any new relationship is. It took about 10 yrs for our family to finally cope in between his family his ex and me with my daughters. A month into me moving with him 3 hrs away from my family he was laid off his job I had been looking for a job since day one so finally one day I found a job as a waitress working graveyard at a restaurant at a not safe area. I struggled since the biological father of my daughters cut ties after I moved he came to visit once or twice and then he vanished. We struggled financially for a long time. I was new on the online job search thing but I suggested he posted on Craigslist his painting since he’s a magnificent painter. It was a hit it. It went too good I left my job to help with the driving since it was mostly out of town. I got too bored that I asked to help him so it wouldn’t take too long. Our days were 10 hr days we did the murals for about 8 or 9 yrs. We argued constantly over simple things. So I told him I love him but I couldn’t do it any more. I started working from home doing clothing alterations it didn’t pay a lot but it helped. He then open a business selling and repairing video games and consoles it did good for a few yrs and he started an apprenticeship at a tattoo shop. He is very creating smart and extremely talented. I then started helping a friends mom doing alterations at her bridal shop that was next to an embroidery place that actually shared a room and the stomps of the machines hypnotized. As soon as there was a chance I got the opportunity to work there as well. I’ve been jumping from job to job to help with the expenses of the house and the shop my partner still owned. At his apprenticeship he had a slip and was fooling around with this other female it ended. He finally decided to close ip his shop bc it just wasn’t working. When he finished his apprenticeship he went on and decided to open his own shop. He got his keys December 2019. Most expenses fell on me since he had no income at the time. He was working very hard to get the place standing it was a mess he demolished painted installed plumbing electric the whole 9 yards. He opened his doors June 2020. We couldn’t be any happier. He is also a musician so he would get gigs all the time. I have to mention I was doing the house work the kids rides the cooking and when he needed me I was there all while I had 2 jobs I would take the kids to and from school and drop off my step kids too (I hate the word step kids) they’re my children too. Any how September 2020 he got this new gig job and by October same yr he didn’t want me to go see him play when he was blocks from home. He started acting weird like dressing differently and caring about his looks I had my suspicions but he would always tell me it was just in my head. I could see his call logs and I found out who he was talking to it was the lead singer of this new band. I confronted him and he said I was crazy. Ok. I kept seeing weird behaviors and talked to him about it since we are not legally married I offered to open a relationship since it would be months at a time w/o intimacy he said no cause nothing was happening. There were times he would take my car on a Sunday nights and act mad so he won’t come home. He ever told me once he couldn’t remember where he parked my car so he left it 2 hrs out of town which caused me to call off work many times. I was loosing my mind I knew something was wrong and I did everything to fix the situation. I decided to place a tracker in my car so he won’t have to strand it again. Next weened he took my car again and left it by the airport all night. I confronted him with pics of my car where he had left it and he admitted he carpooled with this other female that is married should I add. FF to may 17 2022 I got a hold of all his ig user names and passwords, he was talking to at least 6 females but I didn’t confronted him this time that day I had a terrible migraine and was feeling aweful I needed to rest my head and be calm so I went home he rejected me as if I was a piece of trash I sat up and told him it felt like he didn’t want to be with me so I asked him to leave he got up and he left. Right away he started dating this scumbag not the singer but this other person. He had a dinner date may 18th with a 26 yo and on and on. All in a span of 2 months after he left my home. We started talking again and we were fine I told him everything I felt and how much he had hurt me he told me I didn’t deserved that and no I don’t. When he moved out and finished fooling around he got this god and I loved her she was the sweetest dog. After my second job I would go to his place and puppy sat for him he would help me financially when I needed and things were working out it was like we were dating. September 2023 we got into a huge argument and things were bad I went zero contact for a month and it was bad. Until. He had one of his panic attacks and called me to take him to the er so did I saw the dog again and things were calm for over a month. By December same yr he gave me a check I couldn’t cash, on the 23rd I went to his place to return the check and give him his Xmas gift it was a large print of his dog on a makeup trip we did in march it wasn’t much but it was with so much love. He didn’t let me in to see the dog he said I was not welcomed he opened his door about an inch and the dog came out running to me. He called the cops on me I explained the situation and they talked ti us individually. I left and had Xmas eve with my children. I forgot to mention that my youngest f22 and his daughter f21 are currently living with me. Xmas day I was home alone and he calls me I pick up and it was him he was stressed he said that his dog was acting weird since Saturday she couldn’t bark she tried but was just wizzing we rushed her to a hospital 2 hrs away we came back without her she didn’t make it on our way back he told me that the day he called the cops on me she ran to his room sat in a corner and just looked down. He spend the rest of the week in my place I didn’t know what to do but be by him and help him. He decided to get another dog he just turned a yr I love that dog too. I’ve spent the night at his house every other night to help with the puppy while he works. I still had 2 jobs and his place is about 20 mins from mine. About 3 months ago he asked me to lend him some cash so he can get a car to play with so I did. 2 weeks ago my sister invited me to celebrate my nieces graduation and I asked him if our youngest had a date for his and he said no so I told my sister I was attending. Last Wednesday my kid told me he had a ceremony ticket for him and another one for me I arranged as crazy as it sounds to ask for Thursday off to drop off my daughter to my sisters which is 3 hrs away saw my mother for 20 or 25 mins and started my drive back because on Thursdays we take his dog to the street fair so by 1 pm I was back in town I took a quick nap and started getting ready for the fair. He calls me at 7 pm to ask if everything was ready I said yes I’m just getting his cooler ready we take ahi’s bowl a portion of kibble ice packs snacks and a spray bottle. I couldn’t find the spray bottle. I went to my car to check if it was there and I saw him pulling up in his truck I asked if he could come over and kept looking I check again and he walks right inside so I closed up and went in with him I told him I can’t find the spray bottle and he lost it he was cussing out the spray bottle and I was in shock I mean dollar tree has them we can replace it but he was mad at the bottle. He had been doing this same thing for 3 weeks he looses it and he goes into his bedroom extremely upset last time he was like that I let him know I can’t do these kinds of arguments they’re ridiculous. I told him I needed to go home with my dogs and I left. We have a mutual friend that has a dog like ours and that night he posted a pic of both dogs and the lost spray bottle was hanging from the side pocket of the wagon. I texted him Sunday so I could go see the dog and he said ok I spent an hr with I walked him and ate snacks then I left I called him yesterday and he said he had 2 walk ins so I visited the dog for 2 hrs walked him played with him and ate snacks. We both as an agreement we talked about me quitting my second job and puppy sit and he’d pay me what my second job did and so he can get hands on on his shop it’d be a win win it’s been very slow like scary slow and he needs to build his portfolio so we all happy. I talked to him about a bill I owe is 1200 and he said we’ll figure it out well it’s due today since things aren’t smooth I texted him and asked him to please call me he said about what I said about the dog and other things he asked is something wrong with the dog I said not really but we need to talk and he said there’s nothing to talk about I send him a pic of the bill and it’s due date which is today and he said not my problem ask for a loan or something. He owes me 2k I was trying to figure out how we can still help each other and he told me I was harassing him and that I can’t come see the dog and he will get a restraining order. I know his financial situation isn’t good but neither is mine he blocked me again. I know he’s a narcissist and very self centered. His actions don’t have an affect on me but the dog does I’m afraid something would happen to the dog like it did to the other one. I can’t say I don’t care about the money but I barely make ends meet for myself nor can I say I hate him I want him to be ok and succeed like I should too. I know it’s toxic that is why I left. I sent that payment today on time but now I will be behind on all my bills including my rent and car payment. I don’t want to go to his house I don’t know what I did wrong. All I’ve done is is be by his side when no one is he has literally no true friends and he’s not close to his children on his son graduation I was there there was his grandma his stepdad his biological mom me sitting next to her my stepdaughter her boyfriend and then him who got there 30 min late and on the phone for most of the ceremony.

2024.05.29 03:14 Southern-Feedback200 [TOMT] [TIKTOK] content creater with pug and short hair

I was thinking of this TikToker today who was semi viral. I know she had a daughter in the past she lost of custody of. She got a following by being super up front about everything. She cut her hair short and came out as a lesbian. Sometimes she made cooking videos. She was missing a few teeth and used to be in jail I think. She told stories on how she used be an x worker. She had a pug that was named Mr or Mrs something(?) (maybe)? I think the ladies name was Cara or Paige. Who is she?

2024.05.29 01:08 TLOU12354 Is It Weird To Get a Tattoo For My Godson?

For context, I (25m) am not blood related to the parents in any way. The mother (we'll call her Mandy) is my best friend's sister and I've known the whole family for 10+ years and think of them as family of my own. My best friend's eldest sister had a child a few years prior and made him the godfather of her child. When Mandy was pregnant with her child, she decided on my birthday to name me his godfather. My godson is now nearly a year old (he was born a couple week after my birthday), and I've adored him since day one. I've been struggling with mental health issues for the better part of 15 years now and it has taken me on some dark paths over the years, some of which have lead to me coming close to taking my own life and one of those times was around this time last year. Since his birth though, life has felt a bit different and when I'm feeling those dark thoughts, I think about his smiling face and excitement to see me when I visit and it drives me to want to keep living so I can see him grow up and be a part of his life.
Recently Mandy asked what I wanted for my birthday and after I spent some time thinking about it, I decided on getting a tattoo for my godson as a physical reminder of the little kiddo I wanna keep living for. I haven't spoken to her about it but since coming up with the idea, I've started to ask myself if people may see it as weird to have a tattoo for a child that's not mine and I'm not even blood related to.
So I'm turning to you guys and gals on reddit to give me some insight on whether this is something I should go through with or if I'm wrong for wanting to.

2024.05.28 23:42 Scifiase Caergwynt: A homebrew domain that combines Lovecraftian Deep Ones, dragonflesh grafting, and welsh mythology.

So I've been working on this one for quite some time, running sessions here since November, so I thought I'd finally share with the class. My previous domains have all the highly streamlined into a specific gimmick (or if you're being less generous, one-trick ponies), and I wanted to transition to an episodic style campaign for scheduling and session-planning reasons. So I challenged myself to make something that had a lot of potential in the type of sessions, terrain, and factions. I'm pleased with the result and I have endless fun. Dragonmine dungeons, sea monster hunts, and up to my armpits in murder mysteries (Involving everything from serial killers, forced marriages to sea creatures, finding shipwrecks, and backstreet grafting, and their current conundrum involving medieval compacts and mining rights).
What I have here is the stripped down version, hence the lack of things like a detailed backstory, NPCs, or the factions I'm mentioned. These things all exist, but there's far too much for a random reddit post.

Caergwynt

Domain of cursed bloodlines and stolen flesh
Darklord: Dr James Pugh
Genres: Body horror, cosmic horror
Hallmarks: A cursed piscine populace, dragon-flesh grafting surgery, a seaside town.
Mist Talismans: A preserved dragon’s bladder, A piece of leather with a triple-eye tattoo, a carver’s blade

A thousand years ago the people of Dan-y-Mor bargained with the Deep Ones of Thol’Yth, a bargain that caused their home to sink into the sea and has left a corrupting mark on their bloodline to this day. But times have moved on, and in the seaside tourist town of Caergwynt the people try to throw off the chains of the sea and embrace modernity. Dr James Pugh, master surgeon, alchemist, and prodigal son of Caergwynt, brough home with him the discoveries of Dragon-flesh grafting, and how the power within draconic meat can counteract the curse that afflicts them as they age.

But along with innovations, Pugh has brought twisted ideals of supremacy, callousness, and self-loathing to the town. Behind the pastel painted houses and ice-cream stands, Pugh holds the domain in the grips of his ideology. In Caergwynt both beauty and ugliness are skin deep; horror lies beneath both.

And where are they getting this dragon flesh?

Noteworthy Features

Those familiar with [Domain Name] know these facts:
· The coastal population is cursed by their piscine ancestry. Though they appear human to begin with, they start to warp into fish-like beings as the enter middle-age, until eventually they can’t survive on land.
· Magic and the occult arts aren’t banned in the town, but they pride themselves in their modern thinking, and so both are rare and seen with suspicion. Alchemy is very popular, as is natural philosophy of all kinds, though scientific truth is often clouded in ideological bias.
· Minor surgeries involving dragon flesh is hugely popular in the town, primarily as it staves off the piscine transformation. Draconic virtues such as wealth, independence, and power are idealised, while meekness, poverty, and laziness are seen as the result of oceanic taint.
· The inland parts of the domain are mountainous and sparsely populated, but under the mountains dragons lie hibernating in the hundreds. Through use of industrial quantities of sedatives, mining teams, and the skilled blades of the ‘Carvers’, they remove the flesh of living dragons for sale to surgeons.

Geography and locations

At the heart of the domain lies the town of Caergwynt, for which the domain is named, though it extends well beyond the picturesque town. Coastline stretches to the north and south for 9 miles in each direction. Outside the town much of the coastline is steep cliffs with only occasional cove, until the northern most two miles, which level out into sand dunes and finally to an estuary, the river bisected by the mists.

The domain extends another 13 miles inland to the east, almost immediately rising into rolling mountain ranges worn smooth eons ago by glaciers. Beneath these mountains are rich veins of ore, usually lead, copper, tin, silver, and even gold. Not to mention another, slumbering, treasure. These ridges and valleys are mostly populated by sheep farmers and miners, and their distance from the civilised towns means the old traditions still hold strong. Travellers here are likely to be vexed by the remaining fey spirits, whom they have likely offended by breaking their baffling codes.

Lastly, to the west is 13 miles of sea. Beneath the sea here is the remains of Dan-y-Mor, the lands that were drowned. Legends tell that the dragon Rhodri Efydd drowned these lands to punish the people there for their pact with the Deep Ones, and that it’s the survivors of this event that settled in Caergwynt and established the cursed bloodlines that still dwell there. The ruins are now populated by the Deep Ones, and the seas are treacherous to those who do not pay tribute to them.

Caergwynt town The main settlement and namesake of the domain, Caergwynt town is the seat of James Pugh’s power, and the nexus for his ideas. A rail line connects the town to the wider world through the mists, bringing tourists from far and wide to enjoy its pastel houses, seaside attractions, and healthy sea air. The town has grown incredibly rapidly over the past fifty years, so many of the houses are relatively new, painted brightly, and have plumbing. Wealthier houses often have electricity even, as Pugh idealises technological progress as a means of freeing oneself from the overlords of old.

Along the seafront promenade one can find ice-cream stands, circus acts, and countless sun loungers. Many children paddle in the shallows, under the watchful eyes of the many lifeguards. An impressive pier thrusts out to sea over 600ft, hosting a bar, dancefloor, and bandstand, as well as being decorated by colourful electric lights along its whole length.

On an upward-thrust outcropping of stone overlooking the bay, the ruins of a medieval castle can be found. Though much of the old outer portions are now a pleasant picnic overlook, the ruins themselves act as a façade that conceals the home and workshop of Dr James Pugh, the regal remains cloaking the garish metal construction where Pugh conducts his experiments and surgeries.

Dan-y-Mor Long ago, these lands were cast into the sea for the betrayal of the people here to their own kin: In return for protection against floods, the elders of the town betrothed many of their younger relatives to the Deep Ones. When forced to confront the horror of what they’d done, they refused to repent, and so the dragon Rhodri Efydd flooded the land to try and kill off all those tainted by the deep.

Not only did he fail, but the Deep Ones now occupy the ruins in great numbers, growing their strength and plotting their control over the surface. Led by the high priest Xrilath, ancient human structures have been supplemented by cyclopean temples to unfathomable gods. Here Xrilath experiments in creating mutants for his legions, and plots to spread his insanity to all. His aristocrats constantly feud and war over slaves and territory, and his priests construct monuments to induce storms and curses over the ocean. Unnatural reefs and trenches can come and go under the force of their magic, and shipwrecks are a frequent sight.

To this day, the church bells of Dan-y-Mor can be heard when the sea mists are thick.

Llwyd North along the coastline, as the cliffs finally give way to pebbles and finally a sandy beach, sits the unfortunately named Llwyd. Behind the town lies the only flat terrain of the domain, but it is boggy and brackish and so of little use, without a safe harbour like it’s sibling settlement to nucleate around. Thus, it’s a stretched-out town of a few hundred, composing of only two streets running a mile each in parallel along the beach, with the only high ground occupied by a church and a small railway station.
Like Caergwynt, its populace are doomed to mutate as they age, but away from the most intense of Pugh’s influence, they see themselves as more at peace with their nature. Repulsed by their lack of self-repulsion, Pugh has successfully discredited the town as being run-down and dire, stalling its attempt to draw in tourists as Caergwynt has, despite superficially similar pastel houses and beach attractions. Without cash coming in, most of the town is now stuck in a cycle of dilapidation that makes true Pugh’s slander.
Of the ailing attractions, the most notable it the Abominarium, a fledgling zoo that pivoted to displaying captured cryptids and the occasional escaped carver’s pet when funds for proper zoo animals wasn’t available.

Porthniwl
This town lies at the very south of the domain, a ruined place that was bisected by the mists when they descended and never left. Formerly, it was the template that Caergwynt copied to reinvent itself, but now the ebb and flow of the mists leaves it inhospitable and maddening, populated only by aberrations, Aled Llias-y-mor’s Deep-One splinter faction, and insane pirates. The cultists worship and bargain with otherworldly entities that spawn from the mists, welcoming them as Xrilath’s distant kin.

Cwm Crith
Following the river Crith from its terminus in Caergwynt inland (Or better yet, simply taking the narrow-gauge train with the miners each morning) will eventually lead to Cwm Crith, the upper reaches of the Crith valley. Formerly a loose scattering of shepherds, the valley has become dominated by Pugh’s dragonflesh mines that have poked holes in the mountainside. Leaked poisons, smelting effluent, and the residue of toxic ores has rendered the river a pretty but toxic blue colour, and decimated the agriculture of the valley.
While not the only dragonflesh mining compound in the domain, Cwm Crith is by far the busiest and most profitable. Owned of course by Dr James Pugh, Cwm Crith Mining Company, and its subsidiary the Goldscale Carvers, is an economic powerhouse by the standards of the other businesses in the domain. Along with dragon flesh, the draconic influence that seeps into the rocks has imbued the region with rich veins of ore that facilitates the industry of the domain.

Dr James Pugh

_See biography for full account_
Having left the decrepit town as a teenager, Pugh returned with a surprising supply of cash, a doctorate, and ambitious ideas about how the town should enter the bold new world of industry that was emerging. When he returned with a mysterious supply of money, he quickly set to work rebuilding his hometown to fit his own ideas. Where as the curse of their bloodline was formerly an accepted fact of life in the town, he introduced shame of their heritage along with the pioneering surgeries that could counteract it.

Dr James Pugh's Powers and Dominion
Despite being over seventy years old, Pugh appears to be in excellent health. Tall and lean, it’s clear to anyone meeting him, and confirmed by any who knew him as a youth, that he has always possessed an angular but handsome face, one that has only ever expressed seriousness or coldly simmering rage.
However, while age hasn’t affected him too greatly, his own surgery has: He has reptilian eyes, shimmering gold in the irises, and faint golden flecks in all visible skin. Golden scales can be seen around his neck and hands, though his habitual long-sleeved shirts don’t reveal much else. While most grafting subjects are left with swollen and distorted scars to be covered with heavy layers of make-up, Pugh’s few visible stiches are immaculate.
He always wears well made but not flamboyant clothing, so that it is his body, not attire, that draws the eye. Always practical, he is never seen in anything other than the ideal apparel for the occasion.
Though Pugh’s physical self is as full of hypocrisy as his ideology. Despite every sign of refinement and control, he can only maintain this visage by regular consumption of an expensive dragon-blood potion.

His true form, a consequence of his self-inflicted experiments, is a monstrous brute, with heavy staples holding together draconic and human flesh. These wounds are rife with infections that causes him to ooze pus and blood as he moves. While his hulking asymmetrical frame is strong, he suffers greatly from migraines, and thus his intelligence is drowned out by pain and anger. In a mockery of a dragon’s breath weapon, he can vomit great quantities of phosphorescent acid that ignites on contact with air.

Despite seeming to be bursting at the seams, his constitution is remarkable. He has survived poisoning, blood loss, strangulation, and many of his own experimental procedures beyond any reasonable explanation. Grievous wounds will render him in an apparently dead state for several days, but so far he has always woken back up.
However Pugh doesn’t hold sway over the domain by brute force, for almost none know his true condition. His true power is ideological and economic.
With his stolen money, he made many early investments into the mining sector, paid for the rail line that feeds visitors into the town, is the landlord of many homes in the town, and financed most of the tourist attractions. From this he earns a reliable and steady fortune that frees him up to pursue his research, and gives him leverage over a significant amount of the town as their landlord or employer.

Whilst the domains police are not officially under his command, his generous donations, forensic assistance, and loyal local politicians means that they tend to act in his favour.
And when he needs direct actions take, he has the Goldscale Carvers.
As their owner, he has cultivated a collection of brutal and loyal men who aren’t afraid of dirty work. They are also the unofficial biohazard containment specialists of the domain, so Pugh will gladly invent some hazard the police are ill-suited to handle when he wants things handled by his goons.

If attacked, he can choose to transform into his monstrous true form, but will resist doing so at almost any cost. Instead, he is comfortable in using potions and a dueling pistol, along with some magic that resides in him from all his tampering with dragon’s blood.

Dr James Pugh's Torment
· Xrilath is occupied full time with undermining Pugh’s ideology and trying to engineer his fall from grace. The mad aboleth believes only by bringing Pugh down to his level will they all be free of the mists (He’s not wrong either).
· Pugh relies on the dragonflesh mines to not only make money, but also perpetuate his ideology of grafting. Yet he’s terrified one day a dragon will break loose and take revenge on him for his crimes against them.
· Despite all his talk, Pugh has the most monstrous, most obscene grafts of everyone. By his own preaching, if anyone found out, they’d cast him down for his weakness.

Roleplaying Dr Jame Pugh
Pugh is a man of many dualities, hypocrisy made flesh. He’s the tortured spirit of a man whose self-image and true self are incompatible. Pugh’s motives are a web of his enlightened philosophies and base desires. What welds them together is his determination, an iron rod that glows hot enough to burn but never bends.

Pugh believes that gracious physical form belies a noble mind, and vice versa. And that his surgeries are not simple jobs of stitching and cutting, but a means of balancing out a noble intellect with a suitable body, if said body has been unfairly tainted. He blames failed surgeries and the common madness that comes from them on the result of unworthy recipients trying to claim grander forms than they deserve. He practices phrenology, the pseudoscience of determining character from the shape of one’s skull. He will often offer to undertake a phrenological exam on new acquaintances and prospective clients, and fills in the results with assumptions and what knowledge he has gathered on them so far.

In another brazen display of circular logic, he believes that the taint of the deep ones hides the town’s true draconic ancestry, and that the surgery simply helps it rise to the surface. Yet his own true body is a mockery of his own art, the most gruesome of all his patients is himself, and his grandeur is only a façade.

Most tragically, is that from a young age, Pugh has adored the legends of old. He envies the way that the world used to make sense, that people could earn their place by their qualities, and that larger-than-life characters decided the fate of the world. Yet he’s too astute to be blind to the apathetic randomness of the modern world, where logic and science tell us that nobody is truly important. This manifests in his ideology of great people displaying draconic traits, and sometimes in his more crazed experiments…
For Dr James Pugh does go mad. Sometimes for days at a time, he’ll whip himself into a stupor of narcotics and paranoia, lock himself in his laboratory, and perform experiments that would sicken even himself in the light of day. Mockeries of beast of legends, such as drakes and chimeras, are a common result of this.
Bonds: “I have a lot of work still ahead of me: I must fend of the nefarious Deep Ones, perfect my work of removing their curse, and outs my rivals for this kingdom I have built.”
Ideals: “A man should be strong, unwavering, and bold. What he owns is proof of his power. A graceful visage belies a respectable heart.”
Flaws: “I’m surrounded by enemies at all time! I can’t trust anyone! Paranoid? I’ll show you paranoia!” “I’m terrified of dragons.” “My body and blood are tainted and I’m worried I won’t be able to undo any of it.”
Traits: “Yes I’m the smartest man in the room. Any room. All rooms. I take what I want, and by successfully doing so, I prove that I am right to do so.”

Despite his exhaustive list of flaws, Dr James Pugh is an extremely capable individual. Along with his academic brilliance, he has a keen mind for business, strategy, and social manipulation. He can be charming, though more often opts for an aloof commanding presence. Knowing how durable he’s become, he rarely shows fear.
Pugh will try to befriend anyone who seems well-learned, strong-willed, and bold. He’ll compliment those he believes are following his ideals, but the closer they come to being his ideal man, the more he’ll see them as a rival.

Adventures in Caergwynt
By its design, Caergwynt has a wide variety of locations to explore, and several factions to interact with. The ocean is riddled with the feuding Deep Ones, shipwrecks, and the mutated kin of Caergwynt. Inland is host to fey and ghosts that bedevil the simple farming folk, as well as with dragonflesh mines. Caergwynt town is a hotbed for backstreet surgeries, families torn apart by biology, and the clash of the old ways against the new. And while the domain is modern enough for gunpowder, steam trains, and even the odd electric bulb, the history of a thousand years ago still casts its shadow into the current day.

· A pair of serial killers have been abducting those with dragon grafts ripping out the valued flesh, and selling it on the black market. Can anyone track them down?
· A man driven mad by his grafts has become obsessed with a 30 year old shipwreck, claiming that the sunken treasure aboard is his hoard, and has hired help finding it and taking it from a Deep One noble.
· A valuable item has been hidden in an abandoned mineshaft, but the Goldscale carvers have started using it as a convenient place to farm their carrion crawlers.
· A washed-up sea monster has started an outbreak of a strange disease. Pugh is confident he can create a cure, but needs someone to hunt down a living specimen.
· Sightings of a strange creature have spread around the town. Is it a monster from the ocean, or was it created closer to home. To find out, one would have to race the carvers to find and kill it, lest any evidence disappear.

Help with a Tattoo
If I have posted this in the wrong subreddit, please let me know but I would love some advice. A 2 and a half years ago now my family cat passed away and I have always wanted to get a tattoo in her memory, a few months ago I came up the the idea of her name in elvish script, only to find out that through research there are multiple types of elvish and things got confusing from there.

Training

Preemptive TL;DR:

Ran a lot in my early 20s, went through some mental health stuff, gained 50 lbs and took 7 years off. Eased back into running in Autumn 2023, in January I started a 12 week training program for two half marathons in late March (1:56:13 finish time) and early April (1:50:50 finish time), then decided to add on a bonus half marathon in late May.

Full story:

I have always loved runner, but life caught up with me in 2017, and a short hiatus after my last full marathon turned into a 7 year break with 50 lbs of weight gain.
I’d made a few attempts over the years to get back into it, but each time I’d get so frustrated at my utter lack of cardio and throw in the towel.
In early 2023 I decided enough was enough and it was time. I struggled to run with my weight gain so I started by building up my walking endurance, averaging 15k-25k steps a day.
After losing around 30 lbs, I began to integrate a couple runs a week. In early October 2023, I ran my first sub-30 5km in training in 7 years, and decided I wanted to commit to a spring 2024 half marathon.
I spent October to January building up my weekly mileage to around 15-12 miles a week.
In January I started loosely following Marathon Handbook’s 12 week program with a few tweaks (skipped the strength and tempo workouts and replaced with easy 6-8km runs, all around a 5:45-6:00 min/km pace). I hit the minimum mileage (approx. 40km per week) every week but one, and also added a couple 30 minute swim workouts most weeks.
Everything went smoothly other than week 10, during which I took 6 days off due to a niggling calf which I suspected might be hurting from overuse.
After these rest days, I ran a very small local half marathon as my 13.1 miler long run on March 24th and was pretty happy with my time (1:56), but my heart rate was in the 180s the whole time and I felt like trash for most of the race. Taking an entire week off before definitely impacted my perceived exertion.
My legs however, felt great afterwards and any of the tightness and pains I was worried about prior to the race seemed to work themself out on the course!
I followed week 11 and 12 closely to the book, and ran my target half marathon on April 7th. This was a destination race overseas and although my training prior was pretty on point, I had a bit of jet lag and overindulged in vacation food and bevs the day prior. I managed to finish in 1:50:30, my second best time ever, and a 3 mins away from my 2016 PB when I was in the height of my fitness. I was thrilled with my results but felt like I left a bit out in the course and regretted not chasing a sub 1:50 time.
I didn’t have plans to run another race, but the Saskatchewan Marathon and Half date (May 26th) aligned with my plans to visit family and I lack impulse control so I signed up with intentions to treat it as a fun run.
In the 7 weeks between my last race and this one, I didn’t follow any plan but averaged 40km a week, split between 5 runs ranging from 6-13km. I would have liked to squeeze in some more 15km+ long runs but scheduling and general life chaos kiboshed that plan.
I managed one 21.1km slow long run the Saturday before race day which might not have been a great idea, but I felt the need to remind myself I could still cover that distance.

Pre-race

On the Sunday morning of race week, I had a 5 hour tattoo session for a large piece on my thigh. Bad timing, but I booked and paid for this appointment before signing up for this event!
This meant taking Sunday through Wednesday a) to not mess up my tattoo’s healing and b) because my thigh hurt quite from the ink and needle!
I ran an easy 6km on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in an attempt to shake out the legs.
48 hours before race day I started my typical high carb, low residue diet, which includes a lot of baked potatoes, bananas, and cereal - partly for the glycogen, but mostly because I’m paranoid of shitting myself in the middle of a race and this menu seems to do the job.
On the day before the race I ate all of the above, hydrated all day, had a couple cans of Guinness to quiet the nerves, and took a preemptive Imodium before bed.
My morning race routine is always the same, and this one was no different. I leave three bananas on my bedside table before going to sleep, set my alarm 3 hours before race time, eat the bananas as fast as possible, chug glass of water, and go back to sleep for another 90 minutes before getting dressed and heading to the start line.
As usual, I skipped my morning coffee on race day because of aforementioned gastrointestinal paranoia and instead eat a caffeinated XACT energy chew at the start line which includes 50mg caffeine, 25g carbs, and 100 calories.

Race

Weather conditions on race day were ideal. Cool, a bit overcast but with some occasional sun shining and the air was hovering around 7 degrees Celsius at 7am, which warmed up over the race into the teens.
Going into this event, I was waffling between a) treating it like a fun training run, and b) shooting for a sub 1:50 finish after coming so close last month.
I made an 11th hour decision to go for sub-1:50 at the encouragement of my family who was coming out to watch.
Knowing that I’d need to sustain a 5’10”/km pace, I tucked myself in the corral somewhere between the 1:45 and 1:55 pace bunnies (there wasn’t one for 1:50). 1:45 felt a bit too aspirational, so my was to keep that pace group on sight without running with them.

KM 1-5

I had read in previous reports that this out and back course starts downhill with the most substantial decline starting around 3km in, and I wanted to take advantage of this and bank as much time as possible. I managed to hit a just under 5 min/km pace and decided to just try to hang on as long as possible, thinking that I’d have a bit of a buffer to slow down on the uphill part in the last half of the out and back.
At KM 5 I ate my first XACT energy gummy bar and a couple salt stick chews and started sipping on the water and Gatorade in my vest.

KM 5-10

This flat portion of the course took us along the beautiful Saskatchewan River and treated us to some lovely views! There weren’t a lot of people out cheering but the scenes were great and it was amazing to see the elites on their way back from the turnaround point around KM 6 (this is my favourite part about out and back courses.)
I was pleased to still be sustaining 4:55-5:00 minute kilometres and felt winded but still strong. My heart rate was consistently hanging on to around 178.
I knew that my family was going to be hanging out somewhere close to the turnaround/halfway point which motivated me to pick up my feels and at the very least PRETEND to be feeling great! This “fake it til you make it” mentality seemed to be working. I got an extra boost of energy after seeing my family with signs around KM 10, ate another XACT gel, a couple more salt sticks, and went into the second half feeling good and riding the high of a 10km PR!

KM 10-15

The day was warming up at this point, and I was happy to be able to ditch my compression arm sleeves with my family. Since I was carrying my own hydration to drink, I started using the aid stations (which were abundant!) to dump cold water on myself. Refreshing!
Most of my KMs in this block slowed down to a couple seconds over 5:00/km, but I could still see the 1:45 pace bunny and knew I was well ahead of my goal time. I found it very therapeutic to distract myself by doing mental math to figure out how much I could slow down over the rest of the race if I needed to while still meeting my goal.
Around KM 14 I started to feel a twinge in my left hip so I threw another couple salt lick chews down the hatch hoping that it was a muscle cramp and nothing more. I don’t remember it bugging me much after that, so the electrolytes or placebo effect must have done their job!

KM 15-21

Around KM 15 I started doing the mental math of how much I could slow down for the last 6km while still hitting my sub 1:50 goal. My legs and lungs were hanging in there, but it helped me psychologically to give myself permission to revert to my easy run pace for the remainder of the race if I needed to!
We were quickly approaching the end of the riverside portion of the run which I knew would mean heading back uphill to the finish line. I was extra grateful for some amazing cheerers around KM 17 who were doing a great job of encouraging every runner by name. (Thanks strangers!!!)
It was around this point that I also passed the 1:45 group, at which point I abandoned the idea of finishing the race at any speed other than “full send”! I ate another XACT along with a salt lick chew, and strapped in for the end of the ride.
My heart rate started hovering around the mid 180s at this point and everything was hurting, but I was determined to dig deep, and thought about my mom who was their watch me race, and is currently fighting pulmonary fibrosis. I told myself that if she can deal with that amount of lung pain and side effects for the rest of her life, I could certainly endure another 20 mins of self-inflicted hurt.
As we approached the last couple kms, I was relieved that the hills we ran down at the beginning of the race were a much lower grade than I’d built up in my mind, and I was able keep my head down and sustain a 5:00-5:06/km pace. I had to stop looking at my watch around KM 18, as it felt like minutes were going by and it was soul crushing to look down and see that I’d only covered 200 metres!
As I approached the 20km marker, I could hear the finish line, and knew I was almost there.
I went for one last push and was able to pull out my second fastest kilometre of the entire race, for a chip time of 1:45:20!
The 1:45 pace group crossed a couple minutes later, which I found to be a good reminder that at the end of the day, all you can do is run your own race!

Post-race

I started crying as soon as I crossed the finish line. A time that close to 1:45 wasn’t even on my radar when I showed up at the starting line, and I felt so proud!
This was a personal best for me and it felt SO good to beat my previous record from 2016 before losing most of my fitness.
I thought the after party for this race was really well organized - the complimentary beers went down SO well, and it was inspiring to ring, and see so many other people ringing the PB bell!
I didn’t feel like I left much out on the course, but that said - I can’t help but think that if I knew how close I was to achieving a sub 1:45 time, I might have pushed a bit harder on those last 5 kilometres or started my finishing sprint sooner!
I’m now two days out from the race, and I’m thrilled that everything feels physically in order… no wonky knees or hip pain, just some normal DOMs, so I think I might try for a short shake out run this afternoon.
3 half marathons in 3 months has been a lot, and I plan to take a break from racing for a while, but the fact that I was able to surpass my own expectations by so much has really lit a fire in me. I hope to spend some time this summer building up my base mileage so that I can start a more intensive training block for an October Half Marathon.
Although I am generally good about hitting my mileage, I take a pretty lackadaisical approach to my workouts, and I want to see what I’m capable of if I integrate proper speed/interval/hill/strength training.
I have my eye on an October 13th race, and would love to knock this PB out of the water.

2024.05.28 20:57 FailedRambo 3 stories

So I’m going to tell 3 stories one of my friend going to heaven . My story of me being in an all black void (maybe waiting on judgement) . And my other friend who went to hell
The first story is of my friend in rehab and it goes like this. One day he decided he wanted to take shrooms he found a dealer and bought 10 grams he ate them all not knowing what a proper dose was a couple hours later he was freaking out and his mom found him he asked to hold her hand and she said “I don’t know what you took or what’s wrong I need to think” he sat in his room and began to hear people out side saying there going to kill him . He then heard someone break in and say “that’s it I’m going to kill him im done with this” he knew his mom kept a hammer for self defense he grabbed it and has he heard this man coming up the stairs he started hitting his own head atleast 10 times he says. His mother called the paramedics when they arrived he was put on a helicopter headed to the Mayo Clinic . On that ride the paramedic said “ do you want me to roll you over so you can look out the window this might be the last time you will be able to” my friend said yes and with in a couple minutes he flat lined . And how he described it was like this he felt his soul rise up and could see his body laying there and went to a realm of pure bliss and peace he saw a angle he doesn’t know if it was god or not and the angle said “everything is ok your safe we can let you stay here with us or send you back” by friend was begging, to be sent back even though he didn’t need to beg he was shot back down and woke up in the hospital a day later.
My story goes like this I broke up with my 4 year long girlfriend and was on a roller coaster to end my own life I wasn’t gonna do it my self but if something happened it happened . I met this girl named addy and she was a fentanyl addict I started coming over to her house more and more . Mind you I was addicted to painkillers for some time and was now broke not a dime to my name. I smoked a couple pills with her for a day on the second day I decided to smoke 4 fentanyl laced pills at once all I remember was looking at her sister and hear disorienting audio hallucinations and faded away. I was in a black void and didn’t see nothing but emptyness. The paramedics were called and narcaned me 4 times I didn’t wake up there broke my ribs to re pump my heart I woke up 11 minutes later I was dead that entire time. I was later told my a catholic man that I was waiting for judgment . I’ve done a lot of evil in my life but have done a lot of good
The third story is of my life long friend and he told it like this. Him and his girlfriend were fighting all day and towards the end of it his girlfriend Tatum said “you make me wanna kill myself” he grabbed his .22 revolver and pointed it under his chin and said “you think I don’t wanna die to” and it went off blowing his left eye out. All he could say was “call 911” when the paramedics came he flat lined in the car on the way to the hospital. He told me months later what he saw and has had trauma from. He said he was in hell he could breathe and feel what was around him he was in his body with all his tattoos and same haircut . He told me what he saw was hundreds of children killing them selves in different s ways blood every wear screaming he said it was pure insanity the landscape was sharp and dark but you could still see it all perfect. He came back alive in the paramedics car minutes later but he said it felt like he was down there a life time
Please tell me your guys insight and opinions on this please and thank you

2024.05.28 20:54 VioletLegion Workers Comp but I need money

Missouri TLDR; I have two light-work 1099 jobs while waiting on my W-2 position I don’t intend to keep to pay workers comp and get medical care. Can I cash the check safely?
I worked for a certain large company named after a forest, and I was injured doing deliveries. I tore something in my knee, and I’ve been put on light duty. Delivery jobs don’t really have a light work load position.
It was my third day on the job, and it’s now been almost a month. I still have yet to get the MRI I’m required to get, because it feels like they’re trying to wait me out. I just received a message that a check will be sent to me in a certain dollar amount, but it is not enough and my bills need paid.
I don’t think I’ll even keep the job now that I’ve been waiting so long for any kind of compensation. I just want the problem taken care of so I can get my life back on track.
I do however still have the job, and I have a work from home part time 1099 that I got before I started delivering packages. I also have the opportunity for another 1099 position that would make up for the income I’ve been missing out on. Both of these are light work jobs, one being online afterschool clubs and the other being tattooing.
The afterschool clubs are scheduled to me, and I send invoices to receive compensation. I currently make less than $50 a week doing it.
The tattoo artist position is more of a rental contract with the owner of the company, where I have booth rent and can then use the space. She doesn’t pay me, my clients do, then I pay her.
When this compensation check arrives, am I allowed to cash it without risk of fraud? It’s less than $1000, and doesn’t cover half of my bills. Would it be better for me to just send the money back and cut my losses?

2024.05.28 20:40 scarymaxx My cat always leaves me the best gifts

On the morning of Mother’s Day this year I received exactly one gift: a dead rat, deposited at my doorstep by my cat, James. James is black and white, slick and elegant, his fur like a tuxedo. If a cat was cast to replace Daniel Craig in the next Bond film, James would be perfect. In fact, the resemblance is how he got his name in the first place.
“Thank you, James,” I said, bending to stroke his fur as we both examined the little rotting carcass on the welcome mat. He looked up at me hopefully as if expecting me to take a nibble of his offering. “I’ll get to that later,” I promised.
The rest of the family had forgotten the holiday. Not that I blamed them. My husband Saito was busy at work, pulling 70-hour shifts as he prepared a series of PowerPoints to explain his company’s corporate structure to a potential buyer. In the meantime, the twins June and Lily were busy with spring soccer and last-minute prep for their upcoming AP tests.
I spent some time idly making myself coffee while the family slept. Then, around 9:00 they all flew past in flurry, the twins off to a soccer game and Saito headed to the office.
It wasn’t until they’d all left, that a lump began to form in my throat, and I headed to the backyard to have a little cry. I felt silly. It was a made up holiday, after all. Not like Christmas or a birthday (though Saito forgot my birthday too this year.)
For a few minutes, I sat on one of the patio chairs, sniffling pathetically, hoping no one returned early to see me like this.
I was about to go back in when I saw James. He was over in the corner of the yard, lying in the shade. Right away, I could tell something was off about him. James always slept curled in a ball, his chin resting on his rear haunch. Today, he was stretched out, bent awkwardly. Even stranger, he seemed to shimmer in the few spots where the dappled sunlight caught his fur.
Slowly, I walked over, clicking my tongue in the way he liked. When he didn’t move, I softly called his name. Finally, I reached out to touch him, only to find his fur wet. Drawing my hand back, I found it red and bloody in the sunlight, which is when I started screaming.
I called Saito a few minutes later.
“I need you to come home,” I said. “James is dead.”
“Your friend James? From college?”
“Our cat!” I realized I was screaming into the phone. “Our only cat!”
I could practically hear him roll his eyes on the far and of the line.
“It’s not a good day for this,” he said. “I can come back a bit early, take care of the body. Just leave it alone for now.”
I spent many hours alone that day, sitting in the backyard. In time, flies found James and began to lick at him with their little straw-mouths, dipping their horrible little hands in his blood and rubbing them together. It was no use shooing them away.
I was sunburned raw by the time Saito came home. He looked at me, incredulous.
“What happened to you?”
“I was standing vigil,” I explained.
He rubbed at the bridge of his nose.
“Where’s the cat?” he asked, and I gestured to the backyard. Every inch of my skin throbbed from the sunburn, but it felt right, like my inside and outside pain matched in some harmonious way.
Saito grabbed a wastebasket and started walking toward the backyard.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Taking care of… of James,” he said, trying to use a gentle tone, as if explaining to a child that it was time for bed.
“You’ll bury him,” I said. “At the foot of the maple. Three feet deep at least.”
He shook his head.
“That’s not even legal, hon. Besides, I was working all day. I’m exhausted.”
“Three feet deep,” I said, and then I went into the garage to find his shovel. The one I located was unused, though we must have bought it years ago. I brought it in and handed it to Saito. He took it without a word and went outside.
An hour later, he came in dirty and sweaty. He headed to the shower.
I walked to the maple to find the earth there freshly disturbed from digging. Then I found one of James’s favorite toys–a fuzzy bird that had once had a bell inside–and affixed it to a stick, which I placed at the head of the grave.
At dinner, the twins showed up still in their soccer uniforms. They’d spent the day at the park with friends after the game.
“Happy Mother’s Day,” said June, somewhat sheepishly. She handed me an envelope with a gift card to Jazzy Juice inside.
“Thanks,” I said. “What’s Jazzy Juice?”
“It’s a smoothie thing,” explained Lily. “It’s twenty dollars.”
“Thank you,” I said again, staring at the card. Maybe I was making a face.
“If you don’t want it, I can take it back,” said June. “My friends and I go there all the time.”
“No,” I said. “I love it. I’m sure I’ll love it.”
“Great,” she said, looking disappointed.
The next morning I went out into the backyard and screamed.
James’s grave had been dug up. It was nothing put an empty hole surrounded by a pile of dirt. The stick and the toy were missing too. It didn’t seem that deep. By the time Saito ran out to see what was wrong, I was in tears.
“Three feet deep!” I shouted. “I said three feet deep.”
“The soil gets really rocky when you go down that far,” he said. “I figured it didn’t matter.”
“It mattered!” I screamed.
I decided to take some ‘me’ time that afternoon, so I headed to Jazzy Juice. I tried to figure out the menu while I was in line, but I got overwhelmed by all the options. Finally, when I got to the front of the line, I asked if I could just get a basic orange juice.
“It would be more like an orange smoothie,” said the girl behind the counter, a thin redhead in her twenties, covered in tattoos.
“Oh that’s no good,” I said. “I don’t really like pulp. No pulp please.”
“That’s not really what we do here,” she said. “Maybe it’s a good day to try something new. The Berry Blitz is super popular.”
“I want my orange juice,” I said. I was probably a little rude, but I was at my limit. “I’ve got a gift card,” I added. “For twenty dollars.”
“Fine,” she said. And then, I swear, under her breath she added, “Boomer bitch.”
“Excuse me?”
She didn’t meet my eyes. Instead, she turned and started throwing frozen oranges into a blender.
“I’m forty-four!” I shouted over the noise as she started the blender. “I’m a Millennial! Maybe Gen-X!”
Finally, she handed me my drink. It was so pulpy it clogged the straw.
She shot me a shit-eating smile, “have a nice day!”
I chucked my drink in the garbage on my way out the door.
That night, I found myself crying as I tried to make dinner. I could see the little hole that had once contained James’s body through the kitchen window, and I couldn’t help glancing at it as I tried to peel zucchini.
It struck me that James had been the only one in the world who loved me at all. Even worse, it seemed unlikely that no one would ever love me again. I was aging, chubby, and boring. The world didn’t want me anymore.
Without realizing it, I made a deep cut on my thumb and started bleeding everywhere. For a minute, I just watch the blood ooze out of me, all over the vegetables.
That night, I heard a thump. I tried to shake Saito awake, but he was dead asleep. Finally, I got up and walked downstairs. There was another thump now, louder. Then a series of three more thuds right by the front door.
Slowly, I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and then walked through the darkness. As I did, I heard a familiar sound that seemed impossible: it was James’s distinctive meow, the little cry he’d deliver at the door when he wanted my attention. And yet it was somehow different now, a lower, deeper mewing.
“Hello?” I asked as I walked to the door, but there was no sound now. I heard footsteps outside, not a cat’s but something bigger, maybe human.
Finally, I reached the door and slowly turned the knob. I opened it just a crack, peeking through to see if anyone was outside.
At first, I saw no one. Just the empty street in the moonlight. A few night blooming flowers had opened their petals, but otherwise the neighborhood looked dull and lifeless. Then I looked down and had to stifle a scream.
There, on my doorstep, lay a body, its chest still fluttering with life but mostly torn to shreds. Great, bloody gashes had left the green apron in tatters, the skin’s intricate tattoos sundered to islands of nonsense. The girl’s red hair was now redder.
Though her skull was crushed, her pretty face nearly ripped off the bone, I knew immediately it was the girl from the juice shop.
My body tensed as I watched her chest cease its fluttering and the flow of blood slowed to a trickle. Soon, she was still as the rest of the street.
Then, suddenly, my heart was pounding again, as I realized I was not alone in the darkness. Something dark and massive was moving past the nearby bushes, watching me examine its kill.
Though it moved somewhat like a cat, the thing was far bigger, larger than any tiger I’d ever seen at the zoo. As it grew closer, I saw that it was standing on its hind legs, walking toward me, not quite like a person, but like an animal trying to mimic one.
I could barely breathe now. It was growing closer. Though it moved slowly, I could sense that it could cover the ten feet between us in a moment, far faster than I could slam the door.
“Please,” I said… “Don’t…”
As the creature walked into a slant of moonlight, I realized that it was dressed in a tuxedo. Or were those just the colors of its fur?
“My queen, I would never,” the creature purred, in a low voice. “I live only to serve you.”
I looked down at the dead girl by my feet. I would have to call the police, I knew. I would have to scream for Saito to come and help. There would be so much to explain. But I wasn’t afraid now. That moment had passed. I was here with a friend.
“James?” I asked, and he nodded ever so slightly. “You can’t do this,” I said. “I didn’t want this.”
“But she was so cruel to you,” said James. “She called you a very nasty name. I was hiding a few blocks away, but I heard everything. My ears are very sensitive.”
“But you can’t just kill people,” I said, trying to stuff my growing panic into my stomach. “It’s not… it’s not right.”
“Of course I can,” said James. “In fact, I must. It’s my nature.”
“Never again,” I whispered.
James cocked his head, looking me in the eyes. What was he looking for?
“I could stop if you order it,” he said. “Though that would be unfortunate. You know I love to honor you with gifts. I always have. But go ahead. Make the command and I will disappear, never to leave you another present again.”
I looked down at the dead girl, all torn to shreds. There was a certain beauty in it, like a stained glass window, sublime in its brokenness.
“Just say the word,” James said again.
But I didn’t.
“Thank you,” I finally said, bending to look closer at the dead girl. “For the gift.”
“It was but a trifle, my queen,” said the thing. “Until next time.”
And then, bowing slightly, he backed away and bounded into the darkness.

2024.05.28 20:26 raccoonmonger Are Ilumino Heart Ink pens worth it?

I keep seeing these stippling pens that are supposed to be like a tattoo machine but with ballpoint pen ink. They're to help you practice tattooing on paper. They look really cool, the brand name is Ilumino Heart Ink. I was wondering if anyone has tried them out? Are they worth it? They're about $120 a piece. I'm seeking an apprenticeship and I thought it might look good to do some work with one or something similar for my portfolio. Thanks :)
