2021.02.24 05:26 eeshmalox The post of all posts: For Chattanooga Tourists and Newbies...

TL;DR: This is intended to help with Chattanooga tourists and newbies from clogging up the Chattanooga subreddit with the same questions over and over again. Hopefully this helps everybody. Carry on if you’re a local...
If not, just read.
  1. We are in a pandemic. Wear a mask, social distance, and be considerate if it is absolutely necessary that you visit Chattanooga during a global pandemic. If you do all of these things, you’re more likely to have a better experience. If you clearly do not respect our city’s efforts to heal, be prepared for businesses to ask you to leave or call you out in front of other adults to put a mask on. It’s not rude for business owners to establish these boundaries to protect their employees and customers. It’s only rude if you let your ego get in the way of being a considerate human.
Now, for the lighter stuff:
  1. Dining/Togo food/bars:
-Italian: Alleia, Primo, or Tony’s
-Fine Dining: St. John’s, Easy Bistro, or Taco Bell on Broad
-Breakfast: Bluegrass Grill
-Lunch: Kenny’s, Public House, Main Street Meats, or Niedlovs Bakery
-Latin: Taqueria Jalisco Ania, or Conga
-Coffee: Velo, Goodman’s, Sleepyhead, or Mad Priest
-Tea: Wildflower
-Thai: Thai Esan, Alex, Rain Thai Bistro, Sawasdee
-Indian: Sitar
-Pizza: Lupis, Community Pie, or Home Slice
-BBQ: Purple Daisy, Chatt Smokehouse, or Charlie’s. Edleys doesn’t suck either
-Sandwiches: Yellow Deli, River Street Deli, The Spot on Main
-Mediterranean: Olive Branch or Opa
-Fried Chicken: Champys or Flaming Rooster
-American: Feed Company, Public House, Urban Stack
-Dessert: Clumpies, Hot Chocolatier, Rembrandt’s
-Vegan: Southern Squeeze, Cashew, Sluggos, Home Slice Pizza
-Gluten Free/Safe: Lupis Pizza, Community Pie Pizza, Primo, Kenny’s, Whole Foods, Frothy Monkey, Southern Squeeze, Vibrant Meals, Bluegrass Grill
-Cocktail Bars: Flying Squirrel, Unknown Caller, or Whiskey Thief
-Breweries: Hutton and Smith, Oddstory, and Heaven and Ale
-Beer Bars: Tremont Tavern, Bitter Alibi, Parkway
-Dive Bars: Pickle Barrel, Hair of the Dog, JJs Bohemia
-Bars with things to do: Play Wash Pint (if you have a dog or like watching/playing with dogs), State of Confusion (if you are a human and like playing with other humans), Clydes (if you’re a human and like your alcohol with ping pong or shuffleboard), The Big Chill (if you’re a human who is open to all experiences including [but not limited to] getting destroyed on PGA frozen drinks).
-Tourist Traps/Attractions: Rock City, Ruby Falls, The Incline, The Aquarium, Maple Street Biscuit Co, Mellow Mushroom, Ben and Jerry’s
-Live Music: There isn’t any right now and I’m not sure what it will look like when it comes back
-For Children: Reflection Riding, the Aquarium, The Creative Discovery Museum, iMax, High Point Climbing, Coolidge Park
  1. Hiking:
-Easy Trails: Guild trail, Glenn Falls, Can’t Hardly, Rainbow Lake
-Moderate Trails: Cravens to Sunset, Sitton’s Gulch (base only), Stringers
-Harder Trails: Kiddie to Sunset, Signal Point to Edwards Point, Sittons Gulch (base up to Cloudland Canyon)
  1. Mountain Biking:
-Raccoon Mountain
-Stringers
-Enterprise South
-White Oak
-Ascalon
  1. Climbing:
-Indoor: TBA/Synergy Climbing (bouldering) and High Point (a little bit of everything)
-Outdoor: LRC, Rocktown, and Zahnd for Bouldering
TWall, Sunset Rock, Foster Falls, Leda for Sport
*highly recommended booking a bunk or a room at the Crash Pad if you’re visiting Chattanooga for climbing.
  1. Shopping:
-Warehouse Row (higher end brands)
-Frazier Ave (local shops)
-Hamilton Place (Mall)
  1. Places to stay while visiting:
-Edwin
-Crashpad
-Moxy
-Read House
-or any Airbnb on the Southside (on Main Street), Northshore, St. Elmo, or Redbank
  1. Places to buy (if you’re up for the competitive market):
-East Ridge $-$$
-East Brainerd $-$$
-Brainard $-$$$
-Missionary Ridge $$$-$$$$$$$$
-Hixson $-$$
-Redbank $$
-St. Elmo $$$-$$$$$$
-Southside $$$-$$$$$$
-Highland Park $$-$$$$
-Northshore $$$$-$$$$$$$$$
-Lookout Valley $-$$
-Lookout Mountain $$$$-$$$$$$$$$
-Signal Mountain $$-$$$$$
*public school systems are atrocious in Chattanooga. The housing value increases if you are zoned for Normal Park, Signal Mountain Schools, Battle Academy, or LMS. The rest of the public schools lack funding, which lacks quality education and resources. This obviously needs to be addressed and fixed, since all children have the right to a proper education. But regardless, this is something to note if you’re looking to buy a house/invest into a property.
If you’ve made it this far, good on ya. You are now covered for the beginners course of the Chattanooga experience.
