2024.06.09 07:59 NorikoMorishima Picture book where an anthropomorphic pig has 10 minutes to get ready for work

The characters are pigs, but this isn't really relevant to the story at all; they get around on two legs, they wear normal human clothes and live in a normal house, etc. (Their least anthropomorphic feature is their feet. If memory serves, their feet are just regular hooves, which wouldn't be able to wear normal shoes.)
A kid wakes up his father who has slept in and is late for work; he only has 10 minutes to get ready. Each spread of pages is another minute counted down, and shows them doing some task to get the father ready, such as packing his lunch, getting dressed, brushing his teeth, etc. The son helps his father with a lot of the tasks, and outright does some of them for him, such as packing his lunch. (The illustration for that one stands out in my memory the most; it shows the son shoving an enormous sandwich into the bottom of a clear plastic bag with his foot.)
In the end, they just barely manage to get the father ready in time — only to realize it's the weekend, and he doesn't have work.
It's not Richard Scarry, Oliver and Amanda, or Olivia. The art style doesn't look like any of those, either. (Unfortunately I don't know how to describe what it does look like, I can't think of a good comparison.)
I probably read this between 2000 and 2008. I don't know how old it was.

2024.06.09 07:46 CandyHunter [Monks Active Tile Triggers] Hover Over Effect not working?

I'm trying to make a landing page and I want the buttons to be dynamic. When the player hovers over one, I want it to change colors like a video game menu icon, and when they click it, it gives a confirm sound and swaps to the scene they clicked (Journal, for example).
To give a test and proof of concept to myself, I made two tokens. One is the original color (Token A) and the other is the color when the players hold their mouse over it (Token B). The triggers for Token A are to toggle the activation of Token B and to toggle if it's hidden or not (By default it's hidden). The triggers for Token B, at this moment, is just to play a 'ding' noise when clicked (Don't want to mess with it guiding me to a scene then having to go back). This works when i'm a GM, but when I join as a player to test it, it doesn't unhide Token B (Basically changing the token color). It'll make the sound effect when clicked, but that's it.
Not sure what's going on here or if there's a better way to do it.

As a fitness enthusiast, I've tried various watch bands for my Fitbit Alta HR, and the French Bull band stands out as one of my favorites. Its vibrant black and white color scheme effortlessly complements my sporty outfits while keeping my watch secure and scratch-free.
The comfortable silicone material makes it a great choice for my active lifestyle, and the adjustment buckle allows me to easily customize the fit to my wrist. The hardware makes it effortless to attach and remove from my Fitbit device. One area for improvement could be the availability of different sizes, as it might not be suitable for all wrist sizes.
Overall, the French Bull band is an eye-catching and practical accessory for any Fitbit Alta or Alta HR user.

🔗Pink Alta Classic Accessory Band for Fitbit Alta and Alta HR

https://preview.redd.it/m0v5ikefdh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2b1699d176f142fc758cc9a6f4a38dbcc26e42f
As a fitness enthusiast, I've been using the Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Band in pink for a while now, and let me tell you, it's been a game changer. This band adds a pop of color to my otherwise monotonous fitness routine. The TPU material provides enough durability without sacrificing comfort, which is a win-win for me. The buckle closure ensures a secure fit, making it perfect for my active lifestyle.
However, being water-resistant is not its only superpower. It's also extremely easy to clean, which was a surprise given my initial assumption that it might be tricky to maintain. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this band and would recommend it to fellow Fitbit users who want to switch up their style. Just remember, to truly enjoy the water-resistant feature, it's best to avoid submerging it in water for extended periods.

🔗Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Band - Purple Large - Smoke-Free Option

https://preview.redd.it/o21x1dtfdh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f2c74ff70c0de0fb94e65cb83fbf9718891ff1c
I recently came across the Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Band in purple and I must say, it's a game-changer. The first thing that caught my attention was the large size, it fits my wrist perfectly. The color is eye-catching and adds a splash of style to my look.
The band is made of high-quality material that's durable and comfortable to wear. I've been using it for a few weeks now and it hasn't shown any signs of wear. The craftsmanship is outstanding, and it feels like a premium product.
However, there was one downside. The item came from a smoke-free environment, which was a slight inconvenience. But other than that, I'm very satisfied with my purchase. The Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Band is a great value for its price, and it complements my Fitbit Alta perfectly.

🔗Comfortable Fitbit Alta Classic Band in Black

https://preview.redd.it/gyitop4gdh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0334f507ab2997b3445e2623e49b44ee125396fa
I recently got my hands on the Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Band in Black Small, and let me say, it exceeded my expectations! The minute I put it on, I felt like I was wearing a stylish and comfortable accessory that perfectly complemented my Fitbit Alta tracker.
One of the aspects that stood out the most was the ease of putting it on and taking it off. It fit like a glove, snug and secure without feeling too tight or too loose. The build quality was impressive – it felt well-made and sturdy, which made me confident that it would last long.
I was impressed with the water resistance feature, which allowed me to wear it during my daily activities without having to worry about any damage.
However, one downside was that it did tend to fall off sometimes. I found myself adjusting it multiple times throughout the day, which was a bit inconvenient.
Overall, the Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Band in Black Small provided a sleek and comfortable look, as well as the convenience of being able to customize my tracker's appearance. Despite the occasional issue with staying in place, it was a great purchase and worth considering for anyone looking to personalize their Fitbit Alta tracker.

🔗Stylish and Comfortable Fitbit Alta HR Classic Accessory Band - Large

https://preview.redd.it/tn2vx2hgdh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53fe0af2f02166cd9a6517ef6b59ba8f49df4c33
I've been using the Fitbit Alta HR classic accessory band for some time now, and I must say, it's a great addition to my daily life. The band is incredibly comfortable, thanks to the soft, flexible material and the adjustable design that allows me to find the perfect fit.
One feature that really stands out is the rain, sweat, and water resistance! Whether I'm running outdoors on a rainy day or working out in a sweaty gym, this band stays securely in place without any signs of wear and tear. It's a relief to not have to worry about damaging my tracker, allowing me to focus on my goals instead.
The modern, elevated look of the band is a bonus as well. The angled line texture adds a touch of sophistication, while the classic colors make it versatile enough for both work and play. The aluminum buckle is just the right touch of elegance, securely holding the band in place.
However, I must mention that I've had some difficulty with color consistency. The lavender shade I ordered looked somewhat different online than what I received. If you're particular about the colors of your Fitbit band, make sure to check the product page and compare colors thoroughly before making your purchase.
In conclusion, the Fitbit Alta HR classic accessory band has been a reliable and stylish addition to my everyday routine. Its durability, comfort, and water resistance have made it a worthy choice to track my fitness goals, and I appreciate its subtle elegance in everyday wear.

🔗Stylish and Comfortable Zodaca Fitbit Alta Replacement Band

https://preview.redd.it/e6uevj0hdh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3a3c20a472549c1d6f818745faa783f289815f35
As a regular user of fitness trackers, I've tried various wristbands to pair with my Fitbit Alta and its successor, the Alta HR. When I came across the Zodaca for Fitbit replacement band, I was excited to give it a try. Unfortunately, my experience with this product was somewhat disappointing.
The Zodaca band had an adjustable 9-hole design that could comfortably fit a range of wrist sizes. This was a plus, as it meant I didn't have to worry about buying the right size for my wrist. The band also featured a sturdy metal clasp that made it easy to install and remove from my tracker.
However, the durability of the Zodaca band left a lot to be desired. Despite being made of TPU rubber, it felt flimsy and cheap, and I couldn't shake the feeling that it wouldn't last long. In fact, within a week of using the band, the clasp started to pop open, and on one occasion, my Fitbit fell off my wrist.
The color variety was a nice touch, allowing me to personalize my wristband to match my daily outfit. But even the vibrant colors seemed to fade over time, and the band eventually began to look worn and faded.
Overall, while the Zodaca replacement band was easy to install and adjust, its lack of durability and comfort left me unsatisfied. I'll be looking for a more sturdy and comfortable alternative in the future.

🔗Versatile and Stylish Silicone Fitbit Alta Bands

https://preview.redd.it/zskrr2chdh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a1ae9c9a351458573b3f9c1854db1b4a5608cf8
Recently, I had the chance to test out the WITHit Bands for my Fitbit Alta and Alta HR. These watch-style accessories are available in a three-pack of different silicone bands, providing a lasting design and adjustable fit for wrist sizes ranging from 5.5 to 7.25 inches. Their sweat-resistant construction allowed me to wear them during my workouts with confidence.
One of the most prominent features of the WITHit Bands is their attractive look. The color options and designs really stand out, making my Fitbit look more stylish. I also appreciated the durability of these bands, as they didn't show signs of wear and tear even after multiple uses. However, I did notice that the bands could be a bit too tight for some users, making them uncomfortable when worn for prolonged periods.
In terms of comfort, the WITHit Bands were surprisingly easy to put on and take off, making it simple to switch between colors or styles when desired. The bands held securely to my Fitbit and never came loose while I was active. However, I occasionally found that the bands felt a bit bulky, which made them visible under sleeves or tight clothing.
Overall, my experience with the WITHit Bands for my Fitbit Alta and Alta HR has been positive. The unique design, durable construction, and easy-to-use features make them a great choice for Fitbit owners looking to customize their fitness tracker's appearance. Just be aware that some users may find them uncomfortable if the fit isn't perfect.

🔗Fitbit Alta HR Classic Accessory Band - Attractive and Durable Heart Rate Tracker

https://preview.redd.it/sjowebuhdh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06fa8f35edb7d809e5073f168923f106030e3312
Switching up the color of my Fitbit Alta HR classic accessory band has been a game-changer for me. Not only does it add a bit of personality to my daily wear, but it also allows me to match my outfits effortlessly. The color-matching aluminum buckle is a thoughtful touch that ensures my band stays securely in place.
One of the features I appreciate most is the band's durability and water resistance. I don't have to worry about damaging it during my outdoor jogs or rainy commutes. The band's comfortable texture and snug fit make it perfect for both workouts and everyday wear.
However, I've noticed that the band's material has a tendency to stretch out over time. It's not as sturdy as I would like, and I've had to replace it more often than I'd prefer. Additionally, changing the band color can be a bit tedious, which is something to consider if you plan on making frequent switches.
Overall, the Fitbit Alta HR classic accessory band is a practical and attractive choice for those looking to switch up their fitness tracker's look. It's comfortable, durable, and water-resistant, making it a great addition to any Fitbit Alta HR or Alta. While it may not be the most sturdy option on the market, its ease of use and attractive design make it a worthwhile investment for those seeking a functional and stylish choice.

🔗Customizable Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Band

https://preview.redd.it/2zhb0g8idh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9fb87a1e72edb2480098d646565f5c79282a9cc6
I recently got my hands on the Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Wristband, and let me tell you, it's been a game-changer for me. I've been wearing it every day since I got it, and it's become a staple in my daily routine.
One of the features that stood out to me was the sleek and stylish design. It's slim and lightweight, making it perfect for any occasion. Whether I'm going to a yoga class or a fancy dinner, the band blends seamlessly with my outfits. The comfortable materials make it perfect for daily and nighttime wear, keeping me comfortable all day long.
One thing that impressed me was the water resistance. I love to swim, and it's great to have a band that can handle getting wet. It's also fantastic for a quick shower or if I get caught in the rain.
However, there were a few cons to the wristband. I noticed that the band isn't very sturdy, and it often comes off when I'm doing physical activities. I've had to replace it a couple of times because the rubber near the Fitbit tracker section eventually erodes. While this doesn't bother me too much, it might be an issue for others.
Overall, I'm really happy with the Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Wristband. It's an attractive and comfortable accessory that helps me stay on track with my fitness goals. While it might not be the most durable option, it's a perfect fit for my active lifestyle.

🔗Durable, Waterproof Fitbit Alta Silicone Band - Green

https://preview.redd.it/98ydz9nidh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ae2a4a8d0b2c1b2d6420481b71c3ea847a10dc2b
I recently got my hands on the Insignia Slicone Band for the Fitbit Alta, and I must say, it's been a game-changer. The silicone construction is oh-so-comfortable, and I found myself forgetting it was even on my wrist. Despite its cushiony feel, it never felt weak during my high-energy workouts.
One of the coolest features, in my opinion, is that it's waterproof. I've taken mine to the shower and even wore it during a swim workout. No water, soap, or even sweat could ruin my Fitbit's snug little band.
However, the one size fits most was a bit of a surprise. It's true that it works on most wrists, but it's a bit of a stretch. I had to adjust it a couple of times to get it just right.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the Insignia band has been a reliable and stylish addition to my daily routine.

🔗Fitbit Alta Leather Band in Pink - Premium Comfort for Tracking Progress

https://preview.redd.it/dsex740jdh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97b29a1737e849e0641589f7f443fd3cc5536aa6
I recently tried out the Fitbit Alta Leather Accessory Band in a beautiful light pink color, and let me tell you, it's a perfect addition to my daily life! The premium leather feels smooth and luxurious, and it definitely elevates the look of my Fitbit tracker. At first, I worried about durability, but so far, so good – it's held up nicely.
One standout feature of this band is its comfort. It's slim and lightweight, making it comfortable to wear all day. Plus, it stays in place nicely, so I don't have to worry about any accidental knocks. Putting it on and taking it off is a breeze, too. I appreciate the ease of use with this band.
However, one downside that I noticed is the band's staying power. I've noticed that the leather becomes more permeable or stained when exposed to sweat for extended periods of time. So, I try to save this one for my 'dressed-up' days and switch to a synthetic band for my more intense workouts.
In conclusion, the Fitbit Alta Leather Accessory Band is a great choice if you're looking to elevate the style of your Fitbit while still enjoying the comfort and functionality you've grown to love. It may not be the most durable option for all situations, but its comfortable fit and attractive appearance make it worth considering for your daily use.

🔗Comfortable Large Fitbit Alta Tracker Accessory Band - Teal

https://preview.redd.it/eq7u8rgjdh5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bfc2a5b4fafec851ab0e772b9f7af0c42b2b751c
I had the chance to try out the Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Band in Teal Large, and it was a refreshing change from the usual black band. The materials used felt comfortable and flexible, perfect for daily wear. The band was easy to put on and take off without any hassle, which was a plus.
One feature I appreciated was its water resistance, making it ideal for all sorts of activities. The large size fit snugly on my wrist, offering a comfortable fit. The design was attractive and stylish, adding a touch of color to my outfit.
However, I did notice that the band's durability seemed to be lacking after a few weeks of consistent use. It started to show signs of wear and tear, which was disappointing. Additionally, the strap sometimes popped open and fell off, causing a bit of inconvenience. While this was only a minor issue, it was worth mentioning.
Overall, the Fitbit Alta Classic Accessory Band in Teal Large provided a more personalized look for my tracker, and it was comfortable to wear. But be mindful of its durability and potential for falling off, as those aspects could be improved.

2024.06.09 07:19 zackphoenix123 [Spoiler Discussion] I watched the Season 3 PV at 0.25 speed and this is what I found. (Part 1)

This'll be the start of a long streak of posts. I only while making this post realized that Reddit does not allow for more than 5 videos, so I can't really post much clips from the trailer. But even so, there are a lot of still frames that can be analyzed. So this maybe split into like 3 or 4 parts depending on how many clips there are.
Also, I got banned for 3 days because of my dumbass misreading the flair and posting arc 6 spoilers. Genuinely sorry to the mods, u/Dull_Midnight8939, and whoever else was spoiled by that.
I won't be mentioning every little detail I noticed because that's gonna take a really long time and I will end up repeating what I've already said. I'm just gonna be taking the ones that I found interesting.
First!

I love these shots of Subaru and Beatrice. One thing I really hate when it comes to some anime is if the Compositing and colors are really thick that it feels like something is stabbing my eyes. The ground and the skies are pleasant to look at and I love how White Fox is keeping the tradition of making really nice skies. Even in this shot that probably won't last more than 2 seconds in the final cut, it's still nice.
https://reddit.com/link/1dbm6yu/video/95biscf4qf5d1/player
I will say, when I first heard that White Fox will be animating both Arcs 5 and Arc 6 in 3 cours, I was very skeptical. I didn't think, after the whole ordeal with Season 2, that they'd be able to animate Arc 5, let alone Arcs 5 and 6 in what was potentially a 3-cour show. So when the PV opened up with this nice piece of animation in a scene I didn't really think the anime would put much effort in. It got me interested.
Also even super early on, we can see that the new season has a different aesthetic when it comes to colors, and honestly- I really dig it. From what I know, this kind of thing should be attributed to the new Art Director Kinoshita Ryouka and Director of Photography Miyagi Kaori. I will say, there are times when I'm not the biggest fan of the colors, but generally I really dig it. It's a welcome change imo. Ah- also, I'm not saying the previous staff did a "worse job," I'm just really like this new approach. Season 2 also isn't a totally fair comparison because there were less staff working on it and overall, they couldn't give it the best treatment.

We can definitely see how different the greenery looks if we look at this shot from Season 2.
ALSO BEATRICE IS SO EXPRESSIVE NOW!
I've read the Novels so I knew Beatrice was going to be more expressive, generally. But to see it actually in animation makes it hit so much harder after all her Tsundere moments in Season 1 and downright depressing moments in Season 2.
Also minor detail I found.
They drew the soles of his shoes. I love it. I love the fact that it just exists. It's such a minor thing, but they animated it anyway.
For this next shot, we can see that Mimi's clothes are... I forgot the word, it's like they're moving with the wind.
There's that \"alert\" animation.
This is something that I found interesting. With this, and the Beatrice (>u<) image, and also the general scenery, it seems this season is going to lean more towards the cartoony side of Re:Zero's world. I don't mean cartoony in a bad way or like childish. But cartoony in the sense where we're gonna be getting more exaggeration rather than Season 1's more cinematic approach. Season 1 of course also has a ton of characters being exaggerated, but this shot feels so mundane and "in the background," so to see it having those kinds of effects as well, makes me think that it'll be incorporated more into the series.
And again, that isn't a bad thing. Given how Arc 6 will be and the more chaotic fights of Arc 5, I'm hoping that they don't go as cinematic as Season 1. This also opens bridges to potentially adapting some monologues and the like. I'd rather take this risk, rather than play it safe and stick to what "worked" before because I don't think what worked before will work here.

Also, this isn't really important, but I love how even from a distance, they make sure to keep \"Subaru has sharp eyes\" consistency.
Another thing, Subaru is 172cm in the novels, and Petra is said to be roughly 4'7?
Idk if it's just me, but it seems the staff also may have taken notice and made Petra slightly taller (as she's supposed to be). Though minor details like height are usually inconsistent, it's interesting to see because Subaru is slouching in this shot in season 2 and Petra's still shorter than his shoulders.

Judging by this shot, it seems the ground dragon will be CG. This isn't really an issue for me as CG ground dragons are typical for Re:Zero.
Though ideally, I wish we eventually reach a point where the ground dragons can look something like Mushoku's ground dragons.
And I honestly don't think this is that far fetched because White Fox is training new staff from what I've heard. One of the things I recently learned of anime productions is that so many animators now are freelancers who work on one show and move on to the next. They're not the type to work as an employee, so unlike before, these "techniques" that they've developed won't really have the potential to be taught to the next generations of animators. When I heard that, I realized how important it is for those great animators to also eventually teach as well.
So to hear White Fox is also doing something like this (I've only heard, I don't have any official sources), what we've seen from Sengoku Youko and what could be Re:Zero Season 3 may just be them at their weakest. If they're given more time to cook and grow, they can produce better and better things. Arcs 7 and 8 may not be outside the realm of possibility. But of course, it's way too early to tell.
We can really notice how different the color is here.
I gotta say, I'm not the biggest fan of Mimi's redesign. I think her round face reached peak roundness during Season 1, now she kinda looks like a chubby blob. Though at the same time, I love her little butterfly ribbon.
https://preview.redd.it/gaiu02995g5d1.png?width=1301&format=png&auto=webp&s=e8146c339be320583645c69182216ef0a4937046
For Emilia, I prefer her design in Season 1, but her new slightly tweaked design is also really good. One of the biggest differences I noticed between Sakai and Sagawa's character designs are that Sakai's put more emphasis on the outline and linework while Sagawa's feel a lot softer.

https://preview.redd.it/nx5loaus6g5d1.png?width=1658&format=png&auto=webp&s=2ec12a64f5079b1cddda9c1cb9e5776d4e49cc75
A bit of a negative. I mentioned a while ago how I wasn't always a fan of the color and art direction, this was one of those times. I think the Light Novel Pristella looks absolutely gorgeous. It feels warm and almost real in a way. The waters reflect the infrastructure just enough to not feel crystal, while still feeling like- beautiful water. The waves with the tiny shadows only add to everything. But the anime has this very thick sparkly light effect on the water (obviously reflecting the sun) which I think is a bit overboard in effects? There are many reasons they could've done this, I assume one being they wanted the scene to take place at noon rather than late afternoon or early morning (depending on which gate they entered from), so they gave it the shining effect.
Also, the novels takes a perspective way farther back than the anime making the city feel larger. The anime instead does a panning shot.

Those sly foxes in White Fox sneakily setting up places where battles will be fought.
I like this shot, but I'm not a fan of how damn shredded Garfiel is. I get that he's supposed to look like that, but damn! I think the 8pack is a bit much! Give him back his S2 6pack
S2 vs S3, he really trained hard during that 1 year, huh.

https://preview.redd.it/u53d1m759g5d1.png?width=1205&format=png&auto=webp&s=eeb198040c2e5d4cea793a330009e39cb5a3116d
https://preview.redd.it/45mh2ts69g5d1.png?width=1308&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5c713f140e8a846af4b9c376de9763cf348225a
Anastasia's redesign is really noticeable, I think she's cuter in Season 1 with the more circle eyes. Season 3 makes her look like a scary merchant... which I suppose she is. And again, we an see the shade of purple doesn't go as hard.

https://preview.redd.it/z7eah5xf9g5d1.png?width=1639&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f7266267da5ee61fd223a7a61e2f7d3a82e3b5d
One thing that I'm not the biggest fan of when it comes to Sagawa's designs are the curls? Characters with sharp hair now has some curls. In the case of someone like Felt who's usually feisty, I would've preferred if her hair was kept sharp. It's the same deal with Reinhard.

I prefer Season 1 here, I don't know why I feel Right Priscilla's bubbly.
Alright, the next post is supposed to be a video and since I can't post that here, I'll leave it for the next post. Till next time!

Revisiting The Lover Diaries x ME! in a Post-TTPD World
Recently, Taylor has been using the phrase “dear diary” to describe her music on the Eras tour. Prior to the release of TTPD, she was using language like “excruciatingly autobiographical” and “live-streamed public autopsy” - which, in retrospect, seems like a hint towards the concept of TTPD as a “post-mortem.” In changing this language, it stands to reason that she may be hinting at something new.
I started to wonder if she might be pointing us back towards the Lover diaries. She’s also been mentioning the number 4 - “Dear Diary, I felt a feeling for 4 seconds” - and how many Lover diaries are there? 4! Taylor Nation also recently posted about the Lover diaries. (Credit to u/Different_Hedgehog16 for sharing the screen shot in the megathread!)
https://preview.redd.it/5hoae7tyrg5d1.png?width=432&format=png&auto=webp&s=cc428aa24495806db3c12dc5b53b0878c25f10a7
There have also been theories swirling that we might get a redo of the Miss Americana documentary, like this post. I’d argue that the diaries and documentary, as longer story-telling mediums, were essential to the fabric of the Lover era as a vehicle for a coming out. And if she were to re-do that coming out, she might also revisit those same story-telling mediums she attempted to use during Lover.
So, I decided to take a look back at the Lover diaries in a post-TTPD world to see what we can glean. There are quite a few interesting things, but what struck me first and foremost were connections to ME! and how those connections intersect with our current position on the road to "meet me at midnight." So, that is what I am going to largely focus on in this post.

Intro: Significance of the Lover Diaries

Taylor’s music has long been branded “diaristic.” But it’s one thing to write diaristic music; it’s another thing to release your diary. Sharing your diary signals a new level of confession, unveiling something that is typically kept private under lock and key.
Of course, the diaries she released are not her literal diary. They are a curated selection of entries she chose to release and potentially edited for public consumption. These diaries are art pieces, packaged together as an accompaniment to the album. And as art, it doesn’t matter how literally “true” the diaries are. What matters is the meaning they convey. I’d argue that these diaries can tell us a lot about the Lover era.
As a concept, the first and most obvious thing the very existence of the diaries tells us is that the Lover era was intended as an era of authenticity and confession. This won’t shock anyone in this corner of the internet, but I think the very fact that she included her diaries to accompany the album lends credence to the failed coming out theory.

Opening the Diary Drawer in the Lover Era

Taylor has never used the word “diary” in a published song, but she did use the word in her poem for reputation, If You’re Anything Like Me:
If you’re anything like me,
You never wanted to lock your door,
Your secret garden gate or your diary drawer
Didn’t want to face the you you don’t know anymore
For fear she was much better before…
But Darling, now you have to.
Here, she describes how she never wanted to lock her diary drawer - never wanted to have to hide parts of herself from the world behind a locked (closet?) door, behind a gate in a secret garden. It’s telling, then, that with her next album release, she unlocks the diary drawer. This signals an intention to step out from behind the door and into the daylight.
The next few lines of the poem are relevant here, too. She describes not knowing herself anymore and not wanting to face herself - a self who she fears was much better “before.” Before what? Before she became estranged from herself, perhaps? But now she must face this self she is estranged from. The implication seems to be that after she locks the door, she is alone with herself - and then she must face herself. This idea of facing herself in isolation is reinforced in the next stanza where she speaks of her “own little golden prison cell” and says, “But Darling, there is where you meet yourself.”
She describes meeting herself behind a shut door on reputation. And Lover, in opening the diary drawer, represents an invitation for the world to meet her, too.
Of course, it doesn’t happen, and she finds herself shutting the door again. In that light, it’s interesting that this conception of what it means to meet yourself seems quite opposite to how she describes it in the Midnights foreword: “For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching - hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve…we’ll meet ourselves.” On Midnights, she isn’t shutting the door to meet herself. She is stepping out with lanterns lit to search for herself. And her hope to meet herself is directly tied to an invitation for the audience to meet her, too: “Meet me at midnight.” This shift might suggest a realization that the isolation of the closet is in fact not a place where one can truly encounter themselves. You don’t meet yourself in a prison cell; you lose yourself. To find yourself, you have to open the door. The diary drawer.

Lover as a Return to Herself, Through the Lens of the Lover Diaries

The diaries are a central part of the Lover foreword, the very first thing she mentions. She seems particularly drawn to the diaries from her childhood and teen years; she writes, “What shocked me the most was how often I wrote about the things that I loved.” This becomes her central inspiration for the concept of the album, as she goes on to explain it: “This album is a love letter to love itself.” And further, it serves as the inspiration for a decision she describes making about how she wants to define herself and her identity: “I’ve decided that in this life, I want to be defined by the things that I love - not the things I hate, the things I’m afraid of, or the things that haunt me in the middle of the night. These things may be my struggles, but they’re not my identity.” These words are so central to the thesis of the album that they bookend it: opening the album in the prologue and closing it in the outro of Daylight. And these words are rooted in the spirit of the young Taylor she describes encountering in the pages of these old diaries.
Lover Foreword
This is especially interesting when we think about the death of the “old Taylor” in reputation. Lover was an era of rebirth - not of the Taylor Swift personas she killed off in the reputation era, but of her original self. It was a return to her roots. A return to herself. Consider this quote from Rolling Stone where she says she’s never “leaned into the old version of myself more creatively than I have on this album.” (Credit to u/courtingdisaster for this find!)
https://preview.redd.it/mmn5p2vbug5d1.png?width=432&format=png&auto=webp&s=cb876b96cfa6a1a0734cbdae4882d6a034ff3a2e
This proves out when examining the contents of the diaries. The entries she chose to include are primarily from her youth. There are 51 total entries across the four diaries, spanning 2003-2017. Of these, over half (51%) are from her teenage years. Another 45% are from her early 20s (ages 20-24). Only two entries are from age 25+.

The Lover Diaries and ME!

Looking at the contents of the diaries, the first thing that jumped out at me was the quote she included on the first page of Diary #1 and signed “Me!”
Opening Page of Lover Diary #1
It seems reasonable to think that the concept for ME! was inspired, at least in part, from this process of combing through her old diaries and facing the person she once was. These first pages from age 13 represent a celebration of herself. Her pride in her doodles, branding them “Taylor designs 2002.” Her belief that she would be a big star, that her signature might be worth money someday (hehe). Defiance in the face of anyone who would tell her she “[doesn’t] deserve what [she] want[s].” And a celebration of her words, featured right alongside Kenny Chesney’s. There’s a youthful wisdom in these words that she seems to return to in ME!, a song about celebrating everything that makes her who she is.
There are also visual parallels between the diaries and the ME! lyric video. The ME! lyric video is stylized as handwritten; we actually see her hand writing these words, and she is writing on paper with a Taylor Swift letterhead to boot, leaving no doubt about whose words these are. This in and of itself feels noteworthy, given it’s not a typical style for her lyric videos. The handwritten ME! lyrics tie the song directly to the diaries, also handwritten.
ME! Lyric Video
Additionally, the lyric video is full of sweet childlike doodles that also parallel the diaries - hearts, stars, smiley faces. Some of the imagery from her diary doodles also makes it into the ME! music video.
Left: Young Taylor in the Lover Diaries Right: ME! Lyric Video
If you’re in this corner of the internet, you likely understand ME! as deeply meaningful to the Lover rollout. And these ties to the Lover diaries, which Taylor made central to the thesis of the album in the foreword, lend further credence to ME! as one of the most important touchstones of this era. ME! as a self-love anthem inspired by and dedicated to her younger self, who once wrote: “The world is as big as you make it, never be shameful to fly.”
\"Never be shameful to fly.\" - Taylor Swift in the Lover Diaries, age 13

Connections to TTPD

The Lover era was characterized by a handwritten aesthetic - in the diaries and beyond, most notably in the ME! lyric video. This handwritten aesthetic is not typical for Taylor's work, but where do we see it pop up again? On TTPD, of course. The summary poem is specifically printed to look handwritten, but with none of the flourish of the Lover era. The color has been drained out.
TTPD Summary Poem
We also have a call-back to the Taylor Swift letterhead from the ME! lyric video in the TTPD era's "From the Desk of Taylor Swift." The fonts are not identical, but similar enough to suggest a connection. Both albums come directly from the desk of Taylor Swift.
Left: ME! Lyric Video Letterhead: \"Taylor Swift, Born in 1989, Loves Cats\" Right: Letterhead from TTPD Journal (Merch): \"From the Desk of Taylor Swift\"
These are of course not the first call-backs to ME! and Lover that this community has noticed on TTPD. This is an addition to a long and growing list of connections. I'd argue this is a noteworthy connection because, fundamentally, the excavation of the Lover Diaries - a central part of the fabric of the album and especially of ME! - represented a return to her most authentic self, before she learned civility, and an invitation for the public to encounter that authentic self emerging from her unlocked diary drawer. The Midnights foreword suggests we might now be on a mirrored journey towards "meet me at midnight," and TTPD might represent a pit stop on that journey. (If you're interested in more thoughts on this journey and how it connects to diaristic confession, I wrote this post about it!)
And if that's the case, if Taylor is coming back for herself, it just might mean coming back for the Lover Diaries and the 13-year-old girl found in their pages, who once wisely said, "May you never be scared of goodbye." Judging by a recent mash-up, perhaps Taylor is preparing to take her advice: You're on your own, kid, you always have been. So, take a deep breath as you walk through the doors.

Please help with issues with Collapseable Prints
Hey all, mostly new to printing, been about a year. I am currently trying to make some collapseable swords for my kids. I am using Creality Slicer with a K1 Max. 0.4mm nozzle.
The issue i have is that the pieces dont slide as far as they should. on shorter models such as https://www.printables.com/model/535985-collapsing-drill-sword-print-in-place seem to work well enough my youngest can't tell. but i am trying to make a katana for my 10 year old. This isn't the exact print i don't believe as the one i have was free: https://www.printables.com/model/531406-collapsing-katana-with-curved-blade-multi-color
The page says to print in vase mode, and when i do, the pieces aren't thick enough and dont interlock properly and just fly out, even with just holding the sword upside down. I have used the Test Print file it comes with, and it works fine as the test print is only about 15cm or 2ish inches tall. There is also a very good chance one of the kids are gonna hit something with it, and in vase mdoe i can see it just snapping immediately.
Photos of the pieces, as well as a video of my slicer settings are attached. Any help is greatly appreciated as there are so many of these sorts of things i'd like to make but i cant get to work.
Here is a video of my slicer settings: https://youtu.be/-3CRKZPsrEc
Thanks

2024.06.09 06:42 meowlon Need help for an elven fantasy themed wedding event

Hi! So essentially I’m going to a wedding in maybe 2 months from now (haven’t gotten a solid date yet) and its going to be elven fantasy themed! I have NO IDEA where to find wedding appropriate high court-esque dresses that give that elven fantasy vibe and was hoping maybe someone here had a good idea or a place they can point me towards?
I follow quite a few shops on instagram but I’m not sure if any of them speak elven AND wedding appropriate at the same time. Any advice?
For context this wedding is gonna have a enchanted garden feel definitely will be like a soft peachy pink color with white & sage green. We won’t be wearing shoes and have foot jewelry on. The bride is going to give us a color and we’re allowed to pick the dress we want. I don’t want to take away from the bride but I also don’t want to look too costume-y for her big day. Help!

2024.06.09 06:35 Selfhelpkelp Two friends and I watched a man on a bicycle turn transparent then vanish

Last summer, two of my friends and I (30s, F) were carpooling to the airport in the early hours of the morning to catch our flight. It was around 3-4am. I was in the passenger seat, my friend was driving, and we had just picked up the third friend.
We all live in the suburbs near Detroit. My friend who was picked up last lives only 5-10 minutes from DTW. We were driving down a well-lit, two lane road. The area is well populated and you often do see pedestrians out and about at any given hour.
Anyway, as we were driving, we stopped at a red light at an intersection. Directly ahead, we see a man, looked to be in his 30s or 40s, riding a modern day red bicycle near the edge of the road, heading in our direction. He was wearing a beanie hat, a flannel, and shorts. I don’t recall his shoes but I do remember he had a backpack on. He had longer hair that poked out from the bottom of his hat and some facial hair, from what I can recall. My friend who was driving said “he better hurry! It’s starting to sprinkle!” Which prompted me to look up from my phone and look at the man again as he was getting closer.
All three of us were looking at this guy and he was getting closer by the second. He was almost to the crosswalk directly in front of us, right under a streetlight when he started to fucking turn transparent and flicker like an old film movie on a projector. You know how sepia photos or filters look? Like warmer, muted, vintage looking brown tones. I watched him AND his bright ass red bike turn from vibrant color to SEPIA in a millisecond then instantly vanish into thin air.
I instantly shot my head to the left to lock eyes with my friend. Both of us were in shock, our eyes were wide and our mouths were open in utter disbelief. Our friend in the back seat was the first to process what had just happened and said “UM where did he fucking go? Did you guys see that? He turned see through! Seriously, where did he go? What the FUCK?”
We all kinda let out some shrieks and freaked the fuck out, all talking a mile a minute as we each quickly confirmed we had all saw the same sequence of events occur right before our eyes, under direct light. I had goosebumps and my eyes were welling up with tears because it gave me an urge to cry, I was just so tripped out about what I had just saw. We all retold the story one by one, over and over again all the way to the airport and also continued to recount the experience until we got to our destination.
We are all friends to this day and we still talk about this event often. I think about that day any time I pass that intersection and intently watch any pedestrian I happen to see there. It is an experience I will never forget, and what ultimately lead me down the matrix rabbit hole. A simulation glitch is the only explanation for what occurred to us. It perplexes me to this day.
If you read this far, thanks for taking the time to read my story.

Dresses Maternity For Showers
https://preview.redd.it/jg9rz15j3h5d1.png?width=1188&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b6ee05c9db7c7137df385c3161c1061a5066462
If you're expecting a little bundle of joy, you know that finding the perfect baby shower dress can be both exciting and daunting. The goal is to strike a balance between comfort and style, ensuring you feel radiant and confident on this special day. Let me share with you three key tips to help you find that ideal dress.
  1. Prioritize Comfort Without Compromising Style
Being comfortable is paramount, especially during your baby shower when you'll be mingling with friends and family. Look for dresses made from soft, breathable fabrics like cotton or jersey. These materials will keep you cool and comfortable throughout the event.
For example, picture yourself in a flowing maxi dress with an empire waistline that highlights your baby bump beautifully. The loose, airy design not only looks elegant but also allows you to move freely and enjoy every moment of your celebration.
  1. Embrace Your Personal Style
Your baby shower is a reflection of your unique journey into motherhood, so your dress should reflect your personal style. Whether you prefer something chic and sophisticated or fun and whimsical, there's a perfect dress out there for you.
Take inspiration from real-life examples. Imagine a friend who adores vintage fashion opting for a retro-inspired polka dot dress with a flattering A-line cut. Or consider another who loves modern trends choosing a sleek, off-the-shoulder midi dress in a pastel hue. By staying true to your style, you'll feel more confident and at ease.
  1. Choose a Dress That Photographs Well
Your baby shower is a day filled with memories you'll cherish forever, so choosing a dress that looks great in photos is essential. Think about colors and patterns that complement your complexion and the event's decor.
For instance, a light, floral print dress can add a touch of romance and femininity to your look, while a solid color dress in a vibrant shade like coral or mint can make you stand out in group photos. Remember, the right dress will not only enhance your natural glow but also create beautiful memories you'll look back on with joy.
Bonus Tip: Accessorize Thoughtfully
Accessories can elevate your baby shower dress from pretty to picture-perfect. Consider adding a delicate necklace, a pair of comfortable yet stylish shoes, or a flower crown for a whimsical touch. These little details can tie your entire look together and make you feel truly special.
So, ready to find your perfect baby shower dress? Remember, it's all about comfort, personal style, and how you feel in it. With these tips in mind, you'll be sure to choose a dress that makes you feel as beautiful as you are excited for the arrival of your little one.

2024.06.09 05:42 False-Imagination616 Did anyone else grow up low-income and want to end the cycle of poverty?

Today, I got a Nintendo DS from my friend who didn’t want it anymore and I was able to get Pokémon Black for twenty bucks from Facebook Marketplace but that’s not the point!
When I was growing up, we weren’t able to afford such luxuries like a Nintendo gaming device, trips to Disneyland, going to Las Vegas, and everything else that seems “normal” or “average.” My mother told me not to publicly say these things as people would make fun of us and disrespect us but that’s the truth. We had free school lunch, my mother would feed us with WIC, and we’d go to Payless ShoeSource for shoes among other things…Obviously, we’re doing better now but poverty hits you deep and for many, it seems like a never-ending cycle…Slowly but surely, I am trying to heal my inner child and one way to do that is to experience what I didn’t get to do! I finally got to play a Pokémon game even though seven-year-old me really wanted to play Pokémon X & Y on a Nintendo 3DS back in 2012. I’m sure the universe will bring me one though!
All in all, I am not shamed to be an immigrant oldest sibling with younger siblings who are citizens. I just am disappointed and frustrated with society and the system. That’s why even if finals fuck me up, I still have to do well in school, graduate, and find a job that pays well and makes me happy while allowing me time to have fun because that’s one way of breaking intergenational trauma and fighting back systematic racism that’s putting colored people in poverty! Especially since I’m a woman and me living on campus is something groundbreaking and never done before in my lineage! While I can’t travel, receiving foreign money from other kind people has encouraged me to be successful enough to go to those countries and use the money I have!
Stay in school, kids! You’ve got this!
And, for anyone going through a finals funk, I believe in you! You’ll do just fine! You’re one step closer to living out your dream life!

With a ton of research and experimentation, I've finally got it working (partially, will mention issues later). Tested only with Source SDK 2013 Singleplayer using Manjaro.
Before starting, one thing I noticed when configuring Hammer++ is that the building configuration is wrong, I'm not sure if this is an issue related to Linux or not, but all build options (in the F9 window) were missing the extension from the map file path, if you have the same issue, just add .$ext to any $file you see.
Prerequisites:
  • Source SDK 2013 SP/MP set to use Steam Play (Proton), this will download required Windows bin files
  • Hammer++ already installed inside the bin folder

OPTION 1 - Using Steam

  • Add hammerplusplus.exe to Steam (Steam -> Games -> Add a Non-Steam game to My Library -> Browse...)
  • Right click on hammerplusplus.exe (on Steam) and click properties, rename it if you'd like, and in Compatibility, check to force Steam Play and select a desired version, I tested with Proton-GE, Experimental, and the latest stable version (Proton 9.0), they all seem to work.
  • According to Valve Developer Community, you need to add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to the launch options. If you're using NVIDIA, also add PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1. Without this, your 2D and 3D views might not display correctly.
This should make Hammer++ work almost flawlessly, I've tested and encountered a few issues:
  1. In my case, the colors are weird, they are over-saturated and dark, I have no idea why, I don't have HDR enabled, I wasn't able to find a fix for this.
  2. Texture browser has some graphical issues, I mention this later in this post, but the texture list doesn't refresh very well, and the texture names are invisible most of the times and flicker when scrolling.
  3. People mentioned that opening the options window can crash Hammer++. This might also be present in Option 2

OPTION 2 - Using Lutris

  • Add a new game to Lutris (locally installed)
  • Set its runner to Wine
  • In the Game options tab, set the Executable to hammerplusplus.exe (use the 3 dots to locate).
  • In the same tab, set the Arguments to -game Z:\path\to\game. Change "path\to\game" to either Source SDK itself or a mod (such as Mapbase). Note that this is the directory inside Wine, so use the correct drive, also remember that the slash is inverted ('\' instead of '/').
  • In the Runner options, enable Advanced options in the top right of the window, then set the DXVK version to either v2.3 or v2.2, for some reason the latest version crashes immediately after launch.
  • You can also disable unused options if you want, such as VKD3D, FSR, anti-cheats, etc...
After this, Hammer++ might be able to run without too much issues, but in this guide, someone said that AMD can have graphical problems, I am using Intel and I was having similar mentioned problems (even with DXVK), to fix it, you need to force software rendering:
  • In the System options, add an environment variable LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE and set it to true. This completely eliminates the need for DXVK (Not recommended, only do this if nothing else works)
After everything done, Hammer++ will work, but I still had some issues:
  1. When using software rendering, performance is awful, I tried creating a small room and I started having terrible performance issues, textures kill my FPS to about 90% and sometimes 100%, completely freezing Hammer++, a simple way to fix this is to just change the 3D view to flat or wireframe. This might be because of overdraw.
  2. UI has minor graphical glitches, like the view options disappearing, this is very minor, most things seem fine though.
  3. Texture browser is a little buggy, it's like textures refresh very slowly, when you scroll it takes a moment to refresh the screen. Also the texture names are completely broken, they disappear and only appear again when scrolling, to then disappear again.
DISABLE RUNNING THE GAME AFTER COMPILING! Running the game from Hammer++ will use Wine instead of Steam. You don't need to do this for Option 1, but it will run on a different Proton prefix.
If for some reason, Hammer++ refuses to work on your computer, both options work perfectly fine with standard Hammer, and might be the only way to use Hammer under Linux for you, unfortunately.
Running Hammer++ under Manjaro using Option 2 (hammer is completely frozen tho lol, I had to kill the process afterwards)
Slammin' Source Map Tools work and compiles perfectly!
If you'd like to know more, or would like to see all the places I checked for this guide, check this guide on tf2maps and the posts under it, this guide on Portal, the Valve Developer page about running Hammer++ under Linux (for CS:GO and CS:S), and this issue opened on ficool2's GitHub page for Hammer++'s website.

2024.06.09 05:26 joshk21 Where to buy Pro shoes

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I see a lot of people on here mentioning the pro shoes and how they are a bit more durable and comfortable. I want to pick up a pair to try but I can’t find where to order them. I found a page on the vans site describing them but no actual listings. Can someone comment a link? Am I just being stupid?

SCOTCHGARD ON YZY 500?
Got my 500s bones a few days ago, my first white pair and it's fire but im a little bit worried of it getting instantly beat up on the first wear.
I got this 3M shii and im thinking on spraying it on the shoes cause I've seen people use water and stain repellents on their shoes but i wouldn't like to mess up the suede or the nubuck nor the color of the sneaker, is it safe, has anyone tried it already?
Keep in mind im from Mexico so some of the products y'all use in the USA (crep protect and shit like that) are not available here or are expensive, this shit was like 7 bucks lmfao.

2024.06.09 05:12 RrresearchIt Second hand clothes and training for Grand Tetons in late July

Newbie here, hello! I'll be summiting the Grand Tetons with Exum guides in late July, and I currently live in the Southwest where it's very hot and close to sea level. I've got a training plan (long walks, weighted walks, squats, step-ups, indoor climbing, etc) but can't really recreate what it's like to hike/scramble at altitude in the actual clothes I'll be wearing.
I will be using Exum's safety gear (harness, helmet, etc), but need to put together my wardrobe for 2 days of training at base + 1 day hike to Lower Saddle (5000 vertical feet; 9 miles; 6-8 hours) + 1 day summit and descent (12-16 hours; I believe this is via OS route).
I want to crowdsource some opinions since many of Exum's original clothing suggestions are expensive (e.g. Arc Teryx Squamish Hoody, Arc Teryx Alpha SL or Venta AR gloves). Here's what I already own or found for super cheap/used so far.

What would you take/leave from this list? What would you add (items that don't break the bank)? Thanks!

Using the JUNDUN Accordion File Organizer for a couple of weeks, I was impressed with the fire and water resistance of the product. The file organizer has 13 pockets, suitable for letter and A4 size sheets, and tab positions at the top.
However, the zippers aren't 100% waterproof, so I had to be cautious with water exposure. Despite this, the file organizer's fireproof performance outshines most competitors, making it a great investment for a fire-safe document storage solution.

🔗Colorful 26-Pocket Accordion File Organizer with A-Z Labels

I recently started using the ABC Life 26 Pockets Accordian File Organizer KeepeExpanding Filling Box Letter A4 Size/Expandable File FoldePlastic Accordion Document Paper in my office. It's been a game-changer for keeping all my documents organized and easily accessible.
The standout features for me were the 26 individual pockets, which provide enough space for filing various items like receipts, bills, invoices, and name cards. The unique A-Z insert label design makes it super easy to customize and locate files as needed.
Another great aspect is the high capacity of the product. It can hold up to 3500 sheets, making it ideal for both A4 and letter size files. Compared to other folders, I found the ABC Life accordion file organizer to be more suitable for letter size files due to its height.
Made of premium environmentally friendly PP material, this file organizer is waterproof and flexible, making it perfect for preserving your documents in good condition. Plus, it adds a touch of artistry to your workstation with its beautiful appearance.
Overall, the multi-functional nature of the ABC Life accordion file organizer has made my work life more organized and convenient. Whether you're using it at home, the office, school, or during travel, it's the perfect addition to keep your documents in order.

I've been using these Expanding File Folders to organize all my important documents and papers, and they've been a game-changer in keeping everything neat and secure. The elastic cord closure feels sturdy, and the expandable pockets with tabs make it easy to categorize files.
One of the best features is its durability; the high-quality PP material is both strong and flexible, and it's even waterproof! It's perfect for organizing various documents like utility bills, invoices, letters, and A4 paper. The expandable pockets hold up to 300-500 sheets of A4 and letter size paper, which is incredibly convenient for both personal and professional use.
The only downside I've encountered is the product's slightly damaged finish upon arrival. However, the seller's good service made up for it, and I'm still thankful for the high-quality folders. Overall, I highly recommend these file organizers for anyone looking to keep their paperwork in check!

🔗Versatile SKYDUE Expanding File Folder with 5 Individual Pockets

The Skydue Expanding File Folder with 8 Labels was like a breath of fresh air. Imagine being able to stay organized without having to sacrifice style! This file folder is made of high quality, nontoxic and nonradioactive material, which made me feel good knowing that it was safe and reliable. I appreciated how it was so lightweight but still sturdy enough to protect my important documents. The floral and waterproof feature definitely caught my eye.
One thing that really stood out was the expandable folder's ability to hold up to 150-200 pages. It made it the perfect size for all my work and school needs. I loved that I could fit A4 size paper and letter size paper in there with ease. The button closure provided added security too, ensuring that my files weren't accidentally falling out of the folder.
Being able to carry around a Skydue file folder without it being too bulky was an added bonus. And it being suitable for different types of use, from school to office to home, only made it all the more appealing. The wide selection of Skydue file folders available truly was an added bonus, allowing me to choose the one that best fit my personal style.
Overall, I had a great experience with the Skydue Expanding File Folder with 8 Labels. It was the perfect way to keep organized and stay stylish.

🔗Professional Expanding File Folder Notepad Portfolio Case

I've been using the iCarryAll Notepad Portfolio in my daily life and it's been a game-changer for me. The premium quality synthetic leather and polypropylene (PP) make it look and feel sturdy, while being lightweight and super easy to carry around. The expanding file folder is perfect for keeping all my important papers and documents in order, with six expandable pockets accommodating A4 and letter-size papers.
One feature I particularly love is the spring clip, which securely holds my notepad or papers, ensuring a solid writing surface wherever I go. I can easily access the metal pen holder alongside the spring clip when I need it. The product's dimensions are just right, fitting comfortably in my bag and not taking up too much space.
However, I found one minor drawback: the color of the expanded folder is random. But considering all the great features and the overall user-friendly design, this is a small price to pay for this fantastic organizer. The iCarryAll Notepad Portfolio has become essential for me to stay on top of everything and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to stay organized, whether at home, school, or work.

🔗Elegant Expanding File Folder for Organized Storage

I've been using this expanding file folder for a while now, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for keeping my paperwork organized. It's designed to hold standard-sized 8.5" x 11" documents, making it perfect for both home and office use.
One of the standout features is the gold accent hardware, which adds a touch of elegance to any filing setup. The file folder itself is spacious and flexible, allowing me to store plenty of documents without sacrificing style.
However, there are a couple of downsides to this product. Some users have reported issues with the handle breaking after a short period of use. Additionally, while it's great for organizing paperwork, it might not be the best option for labeling the file tabs, as some users found it difficult.
Overall, this expanding file folder from U-Brands is a solid choice for anyone looking to keep their documents tidy and organized. With its stylish gold accents, flexibility, and spacious design, it's a great investment for both home and office use.

🔗Stylish File Folder Organizer with Removable Dividers

https://preview.redd.it/hs8m4kwzpg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba8879e39c817ec78f75fd13abca3fbf944355d0
I recently ordered a Chic File Organizer Tote in blue, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. The faux leather finish and bold color make this file organizer not only sturdy but also an attractive addition to my office. The 14"W x 9"D x 10-1/2"H size of the organizer is perfect for holding my files securely.
One of the features I appreciate the most is the removable dividers, which definitely improve organization and efficiency. The interior fit is impressive, and the cutouts keep the dividers in place, allowing me to hang my files easily. I was initially concerned that the organizer might not support the weight, but it has proven me wrong.
However, there are a few minor cons that I noticed. First, the exterior fabric is a bit rough, which might cause some discomfort over time if the organizer is handled frequently. Second, the support system for hanging files could use some improvement, as I have observed some durability issues with metal rods bending over time.
All in all, this Chic File Organizer Tote is a worthy investment for anyone looking for a combination of style, functionality, and organization. With its spacious design and attractive appearance, it stands out among file organizers. Just make sure to handle the exterior fabric with care and consider using a stronger support system for hanging files.

🔗Stylish and Durable 30-Slot Classroom File Organizer

https://preview.redd.it/px62lt10qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27415f0847f480b1a0e726465bbb30873b11cefa
I've been using the AdirOffice 30-Slot Purple Classroom File Literature Organizer for a while now, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for keeping my papers and supplies organized. The first thing that caught my eye was how sturdy this organizer is - it definitely doesn't feel like it's made of cardboard. The construction is top-notch, with each slot designed to hold your materials securely without bending or breaking.
What I really love about this organizer is how easy it is to label each slot. The small label tabs are a clever feature that allows you to keep everything organized without any hassle. Plus, the bold purple color not only looks great but also won't fade over time, which is a bonus.
However, there are a couple of downsides to this organizer. The first is that it's quite heavy to lift, especially when you need to move it around. The weight can be a bit of a hassle, but it's a minor drawback compared to the benefits.
Another issue I faced was that the material isn't entirely waterproof. If you spill something on it or it gets wet, it can be a bit of a mess. It's not something that happens often, but it's worth mentioning.
Overall, I'm really happy with the AdirOffice 30-Slot Purple Classroom File Literature Organizer. It's a great addition to any workspace and does a fantastic job of keeping everything neat and tidy. Despite the minor issues, I would definitely recommend this organizer to anyone looking for a sturdy and stylish way to keep their papers and supplies in check.

🔗Stackable Mesh File Organizer with Wheels

https://preview.redd.it/ijenoj11qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4272da62e397a8d3dcf84df8561e8a84ef65deaf
I recently came across the Simplehouseware Stackable Mesh Hanging File Organizer with Wheels in black. As someone who frequently deals with stacks of papers and needs to keep them organized, this product caught my eye.
First and foremost, the sturdy steel mesh construction with a black finish really stood out to me. It exudes a sense of professionalism that I found appealing. The mesh desktop organizer was also designed to hold letter size hanging files with easy carry handles, which proved to be very efficient.
However, I did notice a slight drawback—the rolling dolly, which comes with 4 heavy duty 1-inch casters (2 lockable wheels), seemed to be on the smaller side. While it didn't hinder the overall functionality of the organizer, I would have appreciated a slightly larger size.
Despite the minor inconvenience, the stackable design has been a game-changer for me. By connecting two units vertically, I've managed to create more space while still saving space, which is perfect for my small office.
With its extra large size of 15.3 inches by 12.5 inches by 11.5 inches, the Simplehouseware Stackable Mesh Hanging File Organizer with Wheels has been a valuable addition to my daily life. It's a well-designed product with a few minor shortcomings, but overall, it's a worthwhile investment for anyone looking to better organize their documents and files.

🔗Durable Metal Wall Double File Holder

https://preview.redd.it/jdb60ua1qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bd8ac6b991a6c29c0faf4ad5e28fb923a0e6c484
I recently found myself drowning in paper clutter on my desk, so I decided to give the DesignStyles Black Metal Wall Double File Holder a try. This little gem has been a life-saver, providing a clean and organized space for all my important documents. It's easy to mount on the wall, thanks to the included hardware, which eliminates the need for any drilling. In fact, installation was a breeze and it was up on the wall within a matter of minutes.
One of the first things I noticed about this file holder is its durable metal construction. It's sturdy enough to stand up to the daily wear and tear of handling papers, yet it doesn't feel overly heavy or cumbersome to use. The 2 spacious slots for letters are perfect for organizing bills, statements, and other correspondence, clearing up precious desk space in the process. I love that I can easily see which documents are in which slot, thanks to its clean design.
The DesignStyles Black Metal Wall Double File Holder has proven to be a functional and stylish addition to my workspace. Its modern aesthetic adds a touch of sophistication, while its practical features make it a breeze to use. Despite a few minor issues, such as slightly gapped wires that can allow papers to fall to the side, I couldn't be happier with this purchase. It's well worth the investment if you're looking to declutter your desktop and keep your papers easily accessible.

🔗Professional File Folder Organizer with Incline Design

https://preview.redd.it/tgldrwq1qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4545bb35bb55166e8eef5b51ecba0bc57fa5bfc5
The Kantek Incline Sorter has been a game-changer for me in keeping my office organized and clutter-free. With its sleek, open-wire design, it seamlessly fits any decor and is a perfect addition to any workspace.
The incline design allows for easy access to files, regardless of their size, and the sturdy construction ensures that they won't topple over. Although it doesn't have the most modern aesthetic, its timeless design adds a touch of professionalism to my space.
But, the one downside I've experienced is that it requires screwing it to the desk to prevent it from moving accidentally. Overall, the Kantek Incline Sorter is a reliable and efficient way to keep my files in order and save space.

🔗Easy-Install Hanging File Folder Holder for Streamlined Organizing

https://preview.redd.it/dda9oq62qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43a6d5c1e8b763b571dfae95e4a1bf2944665d12
I recently started using the Stealtho Desk or Wall Files Organizer in my office and it's become an essential part of my daily routine. The organizer's unique construction really stood out to me - it's sturdy, but I was amazed that I could assemble it without any tools or screws!
One thing that has made a huge difference in my life is the versatility of this organizer. I can install it in three different positions - table, wall, or partition, and it perfectly fits into any environment. The wall mounting option is a great feature as it helps me utilize my vertical space effectively.
Another positive aspect is the ease of installation. The instructions are simple and straightforward, and I managed to set it up in no time. The organizer also comes with two mounting screws and anchors if you prefer to hang it on the wall.
However, I did realize that the organizer may not be ideal for all spaces. If your workspace doesn't have much vertical space or you prefer a smaller organizer, this might not be suitable for you.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the Stealtho Files Organizer. It's sturdy, looks good, and offers a practical solution to keep my desk clutter-free.

🔗Efficient Classroom or Office File Organizer

https://preview.redd.it/w5zb81l2qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdec96e9d34553f2f847d89520a2b79e636e98af
Keeping my classroom and office tidy has never been easier with the AdirOffice Cardboard Literature File Organizer. The organizer, featuring 15 compartments, comes in a compact size while still accommodating plenty of files and paperwork. I love how the sturdy construction allows me to slide files, notebooks and more easily into each slot, making my workspace much more organized.
The recycled corrugated cardboard material not only looks visually appealing but also adds a touch of eco-friendliness to my office. The slot tabs make it easy to identify the contents of each compartment. Overall, this organization hero is a fantastic addition to any space in need of a little decluttering.

🔗Elegant 30-Pocket Hanging File Organizer for Office and Classroom

https://preview.redd.it/qh14rd63qg5d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8499e534b7d4b0ddd765478e63d3169d928b32c
As a busy professional, I had been searching for a stylish yet functional hanging file organizer to keep my important documents neatly organized. After trying the Essex Wares 30 Pocket Chart File Folder Organizer, I realized that my search had finally come to an end.
What stood out to me from the very beginning was the sleek black fabric, which I found to be both modern and versatile, suitably enhancing the aesthetic appeal of any room. The construction of the organizer was incredibly user-friendly, with 30 individual pockets that easily accommodated letter-sized file folders, making organization a breeze.
One of the key highlights that appealed to me was the inclusion of five hanging hooks, offering practical solutions for easy mounting on a door or blackboard. This was especially beneficial for someone like me who often finds herself on the go, needing quick access to important documents.
However, the main drawback I experienced was the size of the pockets. Although they seemed spacious enough, I found that the depth of the pockets was not sufficient, causing me to struggle slightly when trying to find certain files.
Despite this minor flaw, my overall experience with the Essex Wares 30 Pocket Chart File Folder Organizer has been extremely positive. Not only does it help keep my office or classroom neat and organized, but it also adds a touch of modernity to the room. I wholeheartedly recommend this hanging file organizer for anyone looking to efficiently manage their files and enhance their workspace's appearance.

British Build - 2 Bed Terraced house & custom items
I'm sharing what I'm currently working on since I've loved looking at everyone else's creations so far and found some great inspiration from them as well.
In the hallway I've built a custom shoe stand using resizeable shelves, book ends for feet and some other resizable wood item I've forgotten the name of. I've used the same items to also make an IKEA-type kallax stand which is under the high sleeper in the bedroom. I used various bits to also design the bed since HF2 doesn't have any high sleepers.
If the room and hallway seem small and oddly shaped it's because they are! The build is of a British 2 bedroom terraced house, the type of houses I've lived in all my life and they have always had useless and cramped designs.
I've built the house exactly as it's layout in real life. I'm planning to upload the shell of the house to the community page, and would love to see what other people do with the space.

What color lip and blush to use for summer wedding
I’m a bit olive to neutral and will be going to a summer wedding where the dress code is “summer formal…” (but it’s at a beach).
I’ll be dressing up this flowy yellow dress that has a more elegant neckline and I’m in the middle of deciding which lip and blush color to use.
My hair is dark brown/black and I haven’t decided whether I am going to use silver or gold (or white???) jewelry .with shoes the same color.

Gilgo Beach killings: How Rex Heuermann's 'manifesto' became road map for investigators
By Nicole MilleNewsday. Pasted here in case you hit a pay wall.
Suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex A. Heuermann thought he had long deleted what prosecutors called a “manifesto” on how to kill and avoid detection, a two-paged document littered with bone-chilling references to a “dump site” and burning clothes.
Under the ominous subheading of “body prep,” prosecutors said Heuermann listed “remove head and hands” and “package for transport.”
The existence of the “manifesto” was publicly disclosed Thursday as Heuermann was arraigned on two more murder counts. Prosecutors say evidence, including DNA, links Heuermann to victims Jessica Taylor, a 20-year-old sex worker and Poughkeepsie native living in Manhattan, and Sandra Costilla, a Queens resident who was 28 when she was killed and her body dumped in a field in North Sea.
Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney on Friday called the “planning document” a major break in the case, telling Newsday in an exclusive interview that its contents prompted a second search of Heuermann’s home in Massapequa Park and the woods in Manorville where three of the victims were found.
The Microsoft Word document, created in 2000 and typed in all caps, was a “planning document” used by Heuermann to “methodically 'blueprint' and 'plan out' his 'kills,'” prosecutors said in a bail letter as part of a superseding indictment charging Heuermann with the killings of Costilla and Taylor, bringing the number of women whom Heuermann has been charged with killing to six.
“The Gilgo Homicide Task Force members believe that the totality of circumstances surrounding the HK Planning Document, including Heuermann's attempt to delete its existence, points to it as Heuermann's self-education and 'homework' on the topic of carrying out serial, sexual murder,” prosecutors said in the bail letter.
It was last July, after Heuermann was arrested outside the Fifth Avenue office of his midtown Manhattan architectural firm and charged in the killings of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello, that authorities found the hard drive during a two-week-long search of Heuermann's home. Heuermann was later charged with killing Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who along with Barthelemy, Waterman and Costello are known as “The Gilgo Four.”
With mountains of other potential evidence to process from the search of the home and two nearby storage facilities, authorities recovered the document, which was thought to have been deleted by Heuermann, from a hard drive found in the basement only recently — on March 7 — during a computer forensic extraction method called “file carving.”
Tierney on Thursday identified the 60-year-old former architect, who has been living in virtual isolation in the Suffolk County Jail since his arrest last July 13, as a suspect in the killing of another Gilgo Beach victim — Valerie Mack, a 24-year-old New Jersey woman who disappeared in October 2000.
The prospect of a suspect indicted on six of the killings was almost unthinkable in the years since authorities found the first remains on Dec. 11, 2010, near Gilgo Beach.
Police had been searching for Shannan Gilbert, a New Jersey woman who was working as an escort and had disappeared after seeing a client in nearby Oak Beach in May 2010. In the following months, the remains of 10 people were found — eight women, one man and a female toddler. Gilbert’s remains were later found, but authorities ruled her death accidental.
Until Heuermann's arrest last year, the mystery of who killed 10 people — mostly sex workers — and dumped their bodies along Ocean Parkway had confounded federal, state and local investigators.
With the indictment of Heuermann in the killing of Costilla, who had not until recently been identified as a possible Gilgo Beach victim, the timeline of the case has broadened significantly. The other five victims were killed from 2007 to 2010, but Costilla was killed sometime in November 1993, suggesting that Heuermann began his alleged killing spree much earlier. On Friday, Tierney said there was anecdotal evidence that Costilla was engaged in sex work.
Their killings are detailed in the bail letter unveiled last week.
Two hunters discovered Costilla’s remains in a wooded area of Southampton on Nov. 20, 1993. A native of Trinidad and Tobago, she was living on Long Island and in Queens and Brooklyn before her disappearance and killing.
Costilla was found lying on her back with her arms outstretched over her head, and her shirt was pulled up over her torso and head, exposing her breasts, authorities said. Her naked legs were spread apart. She had several “sharp force” injuries to her face, torso, breasts, left thigh and vaginal area, authorities said. Three hairs were recovered from her remains — one found on her right arm, and two others from tape-lifts of two shirts that were above her head.
Those hairs were earlier tested against the DNA of convicted killer John Bittrolff, long suspected in Costilla’s killing, but he was excluded as a match.
Recent DNA testing comparing Heuermann’s mitochondrial and nuclear profiles to the hairs, could not exclude Heuermann as the provider of the hairs found on Costilla’s body.
“It is significant that two forensic laboratories have now independently determined that male hair recovered from the mutilated remains of Sandra Costilla is substantially more likely to have derived from a personal genetically identical to defendant Heuermann’s mitochondrial and nuclear profiles,” prosecutors said in the bail letter.
Further testing showed, according to prosecutors, that another of the pieces of hair found on Costilla’s remains “shares a common base at all compared positions” with a DNA sample provided by a woman who had lived with Heuermann before Costilla’s disappearance and killing. The woman, who authorities referred to only as “witness #3” in the bail letter, said she could not be excluded as the contributor of the hair found on Costilla.
That woman, whose relationship to Heuermann at the time has not been publicly shared, had been living with Heuermann since 1991 and moved out of their shared residence in September 1993 — about two months before Costilla disappeared and was killed, prosecutors said. Heuermann’s late mother had moved out of the home before the woman, prosecutors noted, without giving a time frame on the mother’s cohabitation with her son.
Prosecutors noted that Heuermann would have been living alone at the time Costilla was killed, giving him “unfettered time to executive his plans” without worrying about anyone coming home to discover a crime in progress.
That’s a theme that prosecutors have said runs through Heuermann’s alleged killing spree: Heuermann’s family was always vacationing out of state when he allegedly committed the killings. In the case of Taylor, prosecutors said, phone records and other documents indicate that Heuermann’s now-estranged wife Asa Ellerup and children were vacationing in Vermont when the young woman was killed.
Someone walking a dog found Taylor’s remains on July 26, 2003, just west of Halsey Manor Road in Manorville and called 911. Lying on her back with her legs bent beneath her, Taylor was decapitated and both of her arms had been severed below her elbows. A tattoo on Taylor’s torso had been “severely obliterated by a sharp object,” prosecutors said, adding that they believe that act, along with the dismemberment of her body, had been done by Heuermann to “inhibit” authorities from positively identifying her remains.
It wasn’t until some eight years later — on March 29, 2011 — that authorities found Taylor’s skull, hands and forearm along Ocean Parkway, just east of Gilgo Beach. Her remains were located less than a mile from where the Gilgo Four victims’ remains were discovered.
Taylor was last heard from on July 21, 2003 — five days before her partial remains were discovered. Police interviewed a witness who said on July 25, 2003, at about 10:30 p.m. they had seen a dark-colored Chevrolet pickup backed into the same wooded area where Taylor’s remains were later found.
Heuermann had owned a dark green 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup during that time, investigators have said. And it was key to Heuermann’s initial arrest.
A New York State Police investigator assigned to the Gilgo Beach Task Force, using a database that can search for vehicles by make and model, first identified Heuermann as the owner of an Avalanche and a potential suspect on March 14, 2022.
A witness in Costello’s disappearance — her West Babylon roommate — also described to police a similar vehicle being driven by a man who was seen with Costello shortly before she was last seen alive.
Costello got a call from a burner phone purportedly used by Heuermann on Sept. 1, 2010, authorities have said. A man that investigators think was Heuermann, described by the witness as appearing like an “ogre” and seeking a paid sexual liaison, came inside the house, but she and others there executed a ruse to take his money, authorities said.
A man posing as her boyfriend showed up and the client said he was only her friend and left. But that same prospective customer contacted Costello the next night and she left with him — the witness telling authorities he saw the dark-colored Chevrolet Avalanche drive away from the home. That was the last time she was seen alive, authorities said.
Police did not appear to act on the witness statements at the time in either sighting of the distinctive-looking vehicle.
After Taylor’s partial remains were found, authorities said, Heuermann searched online for a new Chevrolet Avalanche in bright blue and white and attempted to delete the search.
DNA testing, according to prosecutors, links Heurmann to Taylor’s killing. Heuermann cannot be excluded as the contributor of a male human hair that was recovered from a surgical drape found under Taylor's remains, although 99.96% of the North American population can be, the bail letter said, adding that DNA analysis conducted by two separate labs had reached similar conclusions.
Heuermann is not charged in the killing of Valerie Mack, a sex worker who went missing in 2000, but for the first time Thursday, authorities linked Heuermann to her killing, noting that an analysis of Heuermann's electronic devices revealed a significant collection of violent, bondage and torture pornography, dating to 1994.
The images showed various abuse and mutilation that prosecutors said “notably and largely coincide with how the remains of Sandra Costilla, Jessica Taylor, and Valerie Mack were discovered,” the bail letter reads.
Authorities found Heuermann’s extensive porn collection after seizing more than 350 electronic devices from his home after he was arrested last year.
The HK Planning Document was among the items that piqued prosecutors’ interest. It prompted authorities to search multiple wooded areas in the Manorville area in April, though no new remains were found.
Prosecutors have studied the document and laid out their theories of what it all means. The document lists “finger prints and gloves” and “hair & fiber” as “problems.” Prosecutors said that section of the document appears to be a guide to avoiding apprehension. A section on “supplies,” which lists tarps/drop clothes, medical gloves and saw/cutting tools, are the supplies needed to carry out the killings, prosecutors said.
In another section, Heuermann wrote, according to prosecutors, “REMOVE ID MARKS,” which they argue is consistent with Heuermann’s alleged attempt to obscure Taylor’s tattoo. The document’s “BODY PREP” section, which also notes to “REMOVE HEAD AND HANDS,” clearly relates to the condition of Taylor’s and Mack’s remains, as both victims were decapitated and dismembered at their arms below their elbows, prosecutors said.
Some of the HK Planning Document has origins in the 1996 book written by former FBI special agent and profiler John Douglas entitled “Mind Hunter,” which explored serial killer profiling, prosecutors said, specifically graphic passages on sexual torture.
When authorities searched Heuermann’s home after his arrest, they found another of Douglas’ books: “The Cases That Haunt Us.”

Human hair re-root update #3!
While waiting for the supplies and doll to do the re-rooting to arrive, I have made the clothes! They are not what I pictured but I think i love it more than my concept idea! All of it is made from various types of socks minus the cape! All of the white is some of my old socks (not gross socks, I made sure) and the colorful pants are made from a singular baby sock I had laying around! I am so happy with how everything came out and I cannot wait to do the actual re-rooting! (I put everything on my core doll so I could make sure it all fits and looks good, and ofc the hair and shoes will be different! There will also be earrings in the final product!)

2024.06.09 04:08 sulliedjedi Under the Radar Authors - The Uncanny Aviator by Jenya Keefe

{The Uncanny Aviator by Jenya Keefe} 02/06/2924, 259 pages. Fantasy, marriage-in-crisis, secrets, lies, angsty, honor, HFN
The only way out is up.
Jenya Keefe is an American author with three books and only 662 GR ratings. Her books are on Kobo+. She has an advanced degree in European History which shows in her writing.
The Uncanny Aviator has interesting world-building and a fascinating approach to languages. As an outsider, commoner, and refugee, Cay isn't fluent in his husband's poetic language (Starlight Conversation) that's spoken in the area he's living. Everything is flowery and tied to proverbs and Cay is often struggling to find the hidden meaning or barbs his husband (and others) throw at him. Language lovers would enjoy this.
"You’re as beautiful as a roseapple tree on a hill.” Cay kept remembering those words, given along with an expensive gift. As if to say, You look beautiful, but I know at the core you are twisted.
"How brightly the moon shines tonight,” said Adrio, “when this morning it was dim and pale."
Cay flushed. The moon was a symbol of inconstancy: bright until it waned, dark until it waxed. Sometimes it rode through the daytime sky, sometimes it confined itself to the night. It was unreliable, the moon. Changeful. Manipulative.
Adrio began to speak, no doubt to deliver some elegant aphorism about clouds or flowers to mean I warned you, and Cay interrupted sharply, “Don’t. Don’t speak to me, Adrio."
There was a Lucenequan saying: The scorpion believes the butterfly will sting.
They walked in silence until they reached the red door of their house. "Well, Husband? Will you not complete my evening with a word from one of the great poets? I'm certain one of them would have an insult well-turned for just this occasion."
Adrio looked at him with an unreadable expression and said, "What sorrow, should the swan love the golden- headed duck."
It's a beautiful setting without lengthy prose. I struggled briefly in the beginning with the different races, clans, and history, but it wasn't a large info dump.
The story is told in Cay's POV only, and this works for building suspense and intrigue, and the mystery behind why his husband Adrio suddenly stopped loving him.
For me, it falls under the angsty, marriage-in-crisis, hurt/comfort categories, a bit similar to the vibe in Honeythorn by Marina Vivancos (although the setting and storyline aren't the same.) It was incredibly painful to watch Cay endure cutting remarks and snide behavior from his husband, and I was impatiently reading to find out why Adrio had changed.
Mixed in are high society events, science-y stuff (how hot air balloons work), language, culture, long-standing wars/enemies, the meaning of honor, trust, flashbacks to courtship, survival, blackmail, secrets, and everyone seems to be wearing a mask. I couldn't put this down!
I loved watching Cay switch from adoring and hurt husband to pushing back on Adrio's awful behavior. This is not a story of a pushover, Cay is resourceful, protective of his sister, and can scale buildings like a burglar. The mystery behind what made Adrio remove Cay from their bedroom and cut off all emotional and sexual intimacy is drawn out and engaging.
There were no magical wands or simple solutions to repair the marriage, and as much as Adrio is to blame for his abhorrent behavior, Cay reflects on his secrecy as well. It is a beautiful story set in a rich and colorful world, and I think fans of redemption arcs, broken marriages, and suffering, will enjoy it.
It got me out of my epic book slump! I'm off to read her other two books: {Relationship Material by Jenya Keefe}, {The Musician and the Monster by Jenya Keefe}.
Highly, highly recommend! For more eloquent reviews, I suggest reading Ancientreader's review and Kathleen in Oslo's review.

2024.06.09 03:49 Pineapple_0508 Functional Stickers

Hello! I’m not new to Happy Planner but this will be my first one in awhile. Took a hiatus for a few years because I didn’t have time or space.
Anyway, I’m looking for stickers for the Stargazer Classic. Functional ones in some darker colors. I like the celestial pack, the cosmic pack, and the star magic pack. But just don’t like the multiple pages of “pointless” stickers. The quotes, ones that fill a complete box. They’re beautiful, but not for the type of planning I’m doing. I also wish they had the boxes and borders in a functional pack that weren’t either all pastel or rainbow. I want grays, blacks, burgundy, sage green, gold foil. Does anyone have a suggestion for some functional stickers in colors that are not super bright?
