Pregnacy symtoms

kyleena IUD experience - 1,5 month in

some background:
I used to take the pill before getting the Kyleena, I'm pretty petite, so I got the lowest dose possible. however, I still got various symtomes that kinda sucked, so I figured it was time to discuss options with my GP. At first I wanted to get sterilized, because I'm pretty sure I'm not a person to ever have kids, but the GP told me almost no doctor would do that procedure before the age of 40 here (the Netherlands). so she sugested the Kyleena, as it is a lighter version of Mirena and more suitable for women who never had kids before. she also said that almost no people get the copper IUD here. So I got my receipt for the IUD, picked it up a few days later at the pharmacy (it costed me 150€, versus ~1500€ for sterilisation) and made an appointment for the insertion (on a date I was on my period).

insertion experience:
I read that it was best to take a painkiller beforhand, so I took a 500mg paracetamol an hour before. know that we don't get any kind of sedation offered in our country (at least my gP didn't). In the Netherlands you can have the GP insert the IUD or a specialist, but I prefered my GP as I know her and my nerves get worse with new people. her first try with the speculum hurt pretty bad, as I was kinda tight, so she tried again after I suggested lube (ask for lube if you can!) and this time it worked. the whole procedure didn't took extremely long, but it was very unconfortable. I was very glad there was an assistant who would guide me through it.

I ended up pretty shaky, I'm glad I often carry candies with me and suggest you do the same to calm back your nerves. it was a slightly traumatic experience (but I'm quick to scare), so the first week was a bit rough, but I'm glad I've a very understanding BF.

weeks after & check up:

the day of the insertion I had moderate cramping, similar to my periods before the pill, but after a few hours I could properly funtion again. the next two weeks I had slight cramping, some constipation and hot flashes (it was middle in a heat wave, so pretty horrible). then one week before I expected my period, I got a very minimal bleeding (from sunday till tuesday, I didn't need more than one liner a day). this week I was nauseous in the mornings for a few days, but according to the pregnacy test I wasn't pregnant.

this morning I had my check up and discussed my worries to the hot flashes, nausea and my short period, she said everything was normal and nothing to worry about. she also checked inside on my request and everything was in the right place.

I'm pretty much a worrier, so the GP suggested doing pregnancy tests once a month (which I was already planning on doing) just to be sure. now crossing my fingers everything goes well in the next five years!
