2024.05.17 12:59 thedoomofdamocles Absolute Beginner Gym Guide

I know there are already guides on this subreddit, but I wanted to create one for the Day 1 beginner, someone who doesn't have any knowledge and even lacks the motivation to make the gym a regular part of their lives.
Exercise:
Yes, diet is important, but I believe that muscle growth is more dependent on what you do in the gym than on what you do outside it.
However, my suggestion for the first few days is just to acclimatize yourself to the gym. Start with the treadmills or the cycles. Maybe try a weight machine just to see how it feels. Make yourself feel like you belong in the gym and then you can move onto the workouts.
A lot of people get frightened of the gym because of how much there is to learn and do there. So rather than explaining the use of each exercise, I thought Iā€™d just give a couple of sample workouts. 3 days a week is a good place for an absolute new inductee to start since most new members may not yet have the dedication or commitment to go to the gym 4,5 or 6 times a week. The program is a full body template so even if you skip day 3, you will have hit most muscle groups at least once just by doing Day 1 and Day 2.
I have two versions here, Lower body dominant and upper body dominant. You can select based on preference but as a general recommendation, based on current day beauty standards, most men would prefer the upper body and most women the lower body versions of the program.
Each exercise is to be performed in sets and reps. Reps are how many times you need to be doing a particular exercise in a particular cycle. Sets are how many cycles of them you need to do. So, if you have 2x6 for squats, that means that you squat six times, then rest a couple of minutes, then squat six times again.
Rest time suggestions may vary but Iā€™d suggest 2-3 minutes on average to start.
The programs are below:
~Lower Body dominant version~
Day 1 Goblet Squats 4x6 Dumbbell Shoulder press 4x8 Lat pulldown 3x10 Leg curl 3x10 Dumbbell Bicep curls 3x12
Day 2 Dumbbell Romanian deadlift 4x8 Dumbbell Bench press 4x6 Seated cable row 3x10 Leg press 3x10 Cable Triceps extension 3x12
Day 3 Assisted pullups 4x6 Dumbbell Lunges 3x12 Chest press machine 3x10 Leg curl 3x12 Dumbbell Lateral raises 3x12

~Upper Body dominant version~
Day 1
Goblet Squats 4x6
Dumbbell Shoulder press 4x8
Lat pulldown 3x10
Cable Triceps Pushdown 3x12
Dumbbell Bicep curls 3x12

Day 2
Dumbbell Romanian deadlift 4x8
Dumbbell Bench press 4x6
Seated cable row 3x10
Dumbbell Lateral Raises 3x10
Cable Triceps overhead extension 3x12

Day 3
Assisted pullups 4x6
Dumbbell Lunges 3x12
Chest press machine 3x10
Dumbbell Hammer curl 3x12
Dumbbell Lateral raises 3x12

Iā€™d suggest following this routine for just the first 4-6 months and then moving onto a routine with more sets/reps/exercises.
Diet:
We all know how to improve our diets. Increase consumption of meat, eggs, fruits, vegetables, legumes, lentils, lower fat dairy, etc. and decrease consumption of fried/sugary/overly processed foods.

Thatā€™s how one should start. Yes, all of us want to lose fat and gain muscle. But unless youā€™re overweight, you donā€™t necessarily need to start with a cut/calorie deficit. You can take advantage of a phenomenon known as body recomposition. Since your body is detrained/undertrained, you can currently lose fat ~and~ gain muscle at the same time. This phenomenon is easiest to access when youā€™re an absolute beginner so Iā€™d suggest just cleaning up your diet and focusing on your workout. You can try to get onto a bodybuilders diet and supplement routine once youā€™re a bit more experienced.

The final points are about patience and sticking to the basics. The journey takes time, years even, but thatā€™s a good thing. Youā€™ll look better today than yesterday and even better tomorrow. Iā€™d suggest not being in a hurry to get there.
Stick to the basics. There are no magic pills, magic exercises, magic routines. The exercise routine Iā€™ve mentioned above isnā€™t special, they're just one option of many. Weight loss and muscle gain are all about consistency and intensity. Be there every day and progress every day, whether itā€™s increasing weight, reps or improving your form. In no time, you wonā€™t recognize the new version of you.

2024.05.17 12:30 6woi Girlfriend cancelled

Hi gentlemen,
Iā€™ve been dating my girlfriend for 3 months. We had a date scheduled Friday at 7PM. She texted me on Thursday inviting me to go out that evening. I accepted, we went out, and had fun. We did not hook up afterwards due to bad logistics planning from me - I forgot my condo keys at my parents house.
At the end of our date, I mentioned that I was looking forward to seeing her the next evening at 7PM. She mentioned she wasnā€™t sure if 7pm or 8pm worked best for her. I calmly suggested that Iā€™m happy to move the date to later in the night, but letā€™s decide now so I can plan my Friday as I have work, gym, and a 1 hour commute to do, and the venue weā€™re going for the date closes at 9. She insisted sheā€™d ā€œlet me know tomorrow morningā€. I did the takeaway because it seemed like we didnā€™t have definite plans anymore, and suggested we could do it ā€œanother timeā€. She then cancelled our plans entirely tomorrow.
I asked her if there was another day that worked well, and she just suggested ā€œweā€™ll figure it out laterā€. I said no worries, and wished her a good night. I also apologized for forgetting my keys. I could sense she was being a bit dry to me at this point (stopped calling me babe).
Iā€™m not sure whether I need to open her up if sheā€™s mad about something, or if I should just hang back and wait for her to come to me? She never even gave me a reason for cancelling. Any advice is appreciated thanks guys.

2024.05.17 12:02 Tasty-Objective676 Small claims against an app for wrongful deactivation / permaban

Hello all!
I was wrongfully deactivated from the Hinge dating app. I have never acted inappropriately or violated any of their terms as far as I am aware of. When I requested an appeal I was denied and never told the reason why I was banned or why my appeal was denied. My best guess was I made my profile after a sour breakup, and my vindictive ex mightā€™ve seen my profile and reported it to get revenge.
I kinda just shook it off and moved on to another app but then I saw this story of a person who I suing Lyft in small claims for wrongful deactivation, so it kind of reminded me of this.
I think the reason it bothers me the most is that it was a false allegation that I want to be exonerated from. Also, as a 27 year old in a major city, people donā€™t meet new people in person as often anymore. I am a social person and do occasionally have those experiences, but I miss having the option of Hinge as well.
My question for yā€™all is this: could I file a case in small claims to get hinge to review my profile again? What kind of damages could I claim and what grounds do I have? I have paid for memberships with the app in the past, but I donā€™t remember if I had an active membership at the time of deactivation. Would sending a demand letter be a better option? Is this even feasible?
Constructive criticism is appreciated, please donā€™t be a dick. Ty in advance!

2024.05.17 11:55 CirkadieKatze How do I help my socially anxious friend?

So, I (16f) have a very socially anxious friend (15f) and I really want to help her being more independent. She never talks to our personal trainer (we work out together) and tells me the question she wants to say and then makes me ask them. When we go to a caffe, she gives me the money and makes me pay, cuz shes scared of the baristas. Today we have a mandatory extra PE class (its mostly running, because our school doesnt accept the gym membership as a "proof that we do sports outside of school"). I only have to do one hour and she has to do 2, because she was scared to go when I wasnt there to speak for her. Now she is trying to convince me that I should go one more time than I have to, so I can do the speaking. So yeah, any advice is welcome.
Also sorry for my bad english, it isnt my mother tounge

2024.05.17 11:31 Ok_Preparation_8022 how tf do i grow an ass

I am built like a P with an apron belly. Like, legit! NO ASS! I cannot afford a gym membership (no, not even $10. iā€™m in college and full time student), so hip thrusting with a 200lb weight isnā€™t really feasible to do at home. I am wondering if anyone has at-home and minimal equipment workouts, specifically for glutes! I can possibly get my fiancĆ© to purchase a weight or two, but I am really looking for budget friendly options. I just cannot grow this butt to save the life of me and I would genuinely grow in confidence and have less back pain if I strength trained

2024.05.17 11:30 DescriptionLivid1575 Kucoin froze my funds

On March 4, I received a letter that my withdrawal on the Kucoin platform was frozen! 12 479.08 usd!!!!!! Itā€™s already May 17th and my problem is still not solved!! For almost 3 months, Kukoin support has been ignoring my request (3678510)!
2024-02-19 I had a warrant for p2p. The buyer opened an order with me for 1000 USD using the wise payment method, but in the order chat he asked me to give him a telegram ID! I wrote to him that he had made a mistake and asked him to cancel the order, he canceled it. But on May 4, I received a letter in the mail regarding this order that supposedly the order had been paid for, but the order was cancelled. They asked me to provide an extract, I showed them that I did not receive any money! That I didnā€™t even give this person my details for payment because he asked me for a telegram ID, but I donā€™t use this method! To prevent such false payments, I specifically do not indicate payment details in my payment method, but indicate that I will write details only in the chat! But I didnā€™t send them in the order chat!!! Support can check this, + I recorded a video confirmation for them! But they donā€™t care! That is, this person could not pay the order! He had no details for payment!!!! So tell me, dear support, how he could pay! ?Why have I been sitting without money for 3 months?! You froze a large amount of money for me because some fool decided to file a complaint for fun, and instead of looking into it, you do nothing, although this is your work. It turns out that I can choose any person, open an order for him, and then complain and you will also freeze the personā€™s withdrawal without analyzing the situation just like that, because someone was joking? Where is the logic in your campaign?! How do you still exist on the market as an exchange?! Finally sort out my case!!

2024.05.17 11:27 policywonk_87 Appropriateness of violating Chi-Square random sample assumption

I am evaluating whether the demographic proportions of an organization's membership are representative of the wider profession and I'm dealing with two anonymized datasets that contains demographic details for:
There's about 20,000 individuals in the sample and 200,000 individuals in the population. The two datasets are not linked in any way (I.e. there's no common index across the two datasets). So in essence we have a (likely) non-random sample of the population, and we know the population proportions for each demographic variable.
My first instinct is to compute non-parametric 95% CIs, and if the population parameters fall within the CIs, the sample is likely representative and supplement this with Chi-Square tests as an additional check.
The sample size is sufficient, even with some of the smaller factor levels (never less than 10 individuals), however there are two complications:
Non-Random sample The sample is likely not random (from other work, we have evidence that age, ethnicity, and gender play a role in self-selecting who signs up for membership). Given we are testing whether the sample is representative is this an acceptable violation of the assumption of a random sample?
Category mis-match The population data has fewer categories (Sex: Male, Female) than the sample (Sex: Male, Female, Undisclosed, Unknown). Undisclosed and unknown are of a sufficient sample size for chi-square, but are the additional factor levels in the sample problematic?
Also, is it worth considering bonferroni correction or similar, given we have 5 demographic categories, with several factor levels (Age-group, Sex, Ethnicity, Disability, Resident/non-resident).
Other suggestions on approach appreciated!

2024.05.17 11:12 iamnotatroll666 If you are lonely / in need for new friends

We have this post on weekly basis. It could be this is actually a daily post.
I feel you, I have met even Londoners (born and bred here) complaining that after Uni their friendā€™s circle got weird and they also struggle to meet people.
I have also seen posts offering resources (like /LondonSocialClub).
Here is a different perspective on what has worked for me as an immigrant (with a very visible ethnicity) living here for 5+ years, that somehow has overcame the loneliness feeling.
To get in touch with any city, but specifically London, you need to understand its demography and its map. London is cleverly designed and divided on Boroughs. Each Borough has its very unique vibe and resources.
Depending on what type of building you live in, you will also have a ā€œStateā€ or the usual neighbours on left/right/backyard sides of your place. This may seem a very silly comment but you should start with the basics.
Start with the basics.
Do you know your neighbours? Not by name, but have you said hi? Do you know is there is an old lady or a disabled individual that may benefit from your help? Perhaps a single mum?
Do you know who administers your state? Where is your councilā€™s town hall? Have you checked if they have activities?
Something very unique about London (my opinion of course) is how each Borough / Building is a micro cosmos itself and if you do not make efforts to understand it, you are out.
My very first exercise to improve this was opening Google Maps and literally walking 10 mins around my block and checking each specific business, even if I would never purchase from them.
Then, if you like coffee - just as an example - go support your local shop. Your local pub. Your local grocery shop. Yes you can grab Starbucks or Tescos too, but that corner shop around your block? Go there. Start a chat. They will recognise your face at some point and ask questions, where are you from? why are you in London?
The quick chats with your local shop owners will add well-being to your mental health, I swear.
This - dear /London, is how you start to feel in connection of your little community and then - to make friends. To feel like you belong somewhere.
Other key places to meet your local community.
1) Churches - London opened arms to many faiths, go reconnect with it even if you stopped going for years, they will always be happy to receive you back
2) Public libraries - they have reliable Wifi, books, DVDs and sometimes local events, check for book clubs.
3) Town Halls and local Museums - usually Boroughs have activities for all ages and some old buildings restored as museums with workshops / exhibits. Sign up for their newsletters.
4) Volunteer work - incredible way to meet people and helping.
5) Pubs with shows and quiz nights. I swear you can go there and have 1 pint only (pro tip, order Lucky Saint if you donā€™t like alcohol) and stay there for hours. Donā€™t go to random pubs. Search the ones that offer live shows or quizzes about things you like. Example- if you like drag queens, go to a drag queen quiz night. Many groups will be delighted to make space for an additional player.
6) This requires budget but - memberships of any sort. Gym, museums, Barbican, social clubs. If you go frequently to a place, it is the same logic over and over, people recognise you or of you recognise someone, saying ā€œhelloā€ is 100% socially acceptable.
All of the advice above requires effort. Of course. But how would you expect to fit in without any efforts?!
Adulthood is tricky because now you cannot rely on school to make friends and suddenly the ā€œwork cultureā€ (that was always dodgy) got worse than ever after the pandemic.
London has so much to offer if you are keen on understanding its dynamics. There is no recipe for success here but hope the advice above helps someone!

2024.05.17 11:05 Digital-Dinosaur Weight loss

I'm on a waiting list for L4/5 microdiscectomy. I've been slowly gaining weight to the point that I'm now on the edge of being clinically obese
Heard from the doctor after routine blood tests that I have a fatty liver and that I'm now risking long term damage if I don't lose weight.
I'm working on reducing my calories, but I'm struggling to do any exercise!
I can walk for about 20-30 minutes at a time, any more and I'll suffer from it. Are there any exercises that I can do that won't do more damage to my back? I was thinking of restarting my gym membership and trying cycling, but I don't want to do that will cause more damage or pay for a gym membership that will not be used.
Any advice is helpful! I knew I was putting on weight, but to have someone professionally tell you you're fat, isn't great for the old mental health!

2024.05.17 10:17 tareekpetareek Manpasand was an accounting fraud with beverages on the side

Manpasand was an accounting fraud with beverages on the side
Original Source: https://boringmoney.in/p/manpasand-an-accounting-fraud (my newsletter Boring Money. Do visit the original link and subscribe if you'd like to receive similar posts directly in your inbox)

Letā€™s say youā€™re a company that wants to commit an elaborate fraud. What is the most egregious fraud that you can think of?
Maybe letā€™s not start with egregious. Letā€™s start with something simple! Hereā€™s something thatā€™s reasonably common:
  1. Pay people to buy your product (or like give them huge discounts or whatever). Inflate your revenue. Lie about your actual customers.
  2. Hype your company up. Do an IPO, take your company public. Sell some of your own stock.
  3. Slowly try fixing your numbers. If you happen to succeed, thatā€™s great! You win. If you donā€™t succeed, you still win? Youā€™ve done your IPO and sold some stock. Thatā€™s a lot of money.
This is the simple kind of fraud, which also makes it difficult to identify. You might have to talk to the companyā€™s customers, read the fine print in its disclosures, do sanity checks of its financials, that sort of stuff. Itā€™s tough to catch the simple kind of fraud, which is also why so much of it exists in the form of whispers and rumours without ever getting proven.
Now letā€™s go egregious:
  1. Why pay people to buy your product? Hell, why even have a product? Just manifest in your imagination that there are hundreds of thousands of people buying whatever youā€™re selling and write it down.
  2. Hype your company up! Do an IPO, sell some stock. This part remains the same.
  3. Donā€™t bother fixing your numbers. Instead, keep publishing imaginary revenue figures. Keep selling stock to public investors. Publish your financials every quarter with whatever numbers you like.
If you do this, thereā€™s only so far you can go. Eventually, your hype will attract attention and someone might figure out that both your customers and product were creative imagination.
Hereā€™s a SEBI order from late in April about Manpasand Beverages. Manpasand used to be a beverages company based in Gujarat. In 2019 the company shut down because it got caught in a bunch of frauds. Itā€™s only now that SEBI published the details of what was happening. Probably best summarised by fund manager Amit Mantri: [1]
https://preview.redd.it/o85shr8p3y0d1.jpg?width=603&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=26ace208d28eae2bb2401449f9b1dcc6bd1eefd0

Fake it till you make it (or donā€™t)

Manpasand faked its revenue (of course). It also faked its expenses, customers, vendors, tax liabilities, etc. How did it get away with doing this stuff? I donā€™t know, someoneā€™s gotta ask Deloitte. They were Manpasandā€™s auditor for eight years, resigning only in 2018. The companyā€™s fraud came out officially in 2019ā€”Deloitte, whose job was to make sure the books were right and also had access to all the inside information, figured that something was off only a year earlier!
Anyway, SEBI appointed its own auditor to figure out what was wrong with Manpasandā€™s accounts and the auditor came back with a bunch of stuff. [2]
Hereā€™s the bit about Manpasand inflating its revenue. From SEBIā€™s order:
ā€¦ CGST vide letter dated July 07, 2019, inter alia, informed that Manpasand had shown inflated sales figure in its balance sheet by way of receipt/ supply of fake invoices without actual receipt/ supply of goods. It was further informed in the said letter that Manpasand had floated 38 bogus/paper firms to inflate its turnover and that inward and outward transactions made with such bogus firms amount to Rs.188.48 Crore and Rs. 691.30 Crore, respectively.
Manpasand created 38 different companies and it both ā€œsoldā€ its products to those companies as well as ā€œboughtā€ stuff from some of them. Basically, Manpasand created real companies to play the role of its customers and vendors.
ā€¦ it was observed that the parties with whom transactions amounting to Rs.29.84 Crore were entered into, were not registered for dealing in the said goods/products being manufactured by the Company. Further, there was non-receipt of sale considerations and debtors balance were adjusted by passing journal entries
Manpasand was a beverages company that was selling stuff to its customers. Traditionally a company like Manpasand might have distributors as customers but Manpasandā€™s customers were registered as something else entirely (I do wonder what, the order doesnā€™t mention it). These are fake customers that Manpasand created out of thin air. Establishing companies is quite a bit of effort! Why half-ass the part where you select the ā€œbusiness typeā€? I sort of understand though. Iā€™ve done it too. Put so much effort into something that youā€™re bored by the end that you muck it up.
Iā€™m kidding! The real reason is probably that Manpasand wouldnā€™t have actually created these fake companies itself. There would be a middleman who would have them made in advance, all ready to go whenever needed to do fraud.
Manpasand propped up its sales as well as its expenses by pretty much just funnelling money around from one entity to the other. In some instances, it wouldnā€™t even move real money around. It would just note down that it had to pay one company, and had to also collect payments from another company, and then cancel each other out. Manpasand was running its accounts on Splitwise.
In general, there is nothing wrong with a company having such set-off arrangements. If you know your creditor owes money to your debtor, sure, cancel those transactions out. But how likely is it that a companyā€™s suppliers and distributors know each other? And transact with each other?
This post is public so feel free to share it.

All except death and taxes

If youā€™re planning to do some accounting fraud, hereā€™s something to keep in mind. I mean, Iā€™m not not recommending that you do fraud, but if you do have your mind made up I might as well pass this along. Fake your sales, thatā€™s fine. Fake your expenses, thatā€™s fine too. But donā€™t fake your taxes, those guys will come after you.
In 2019 right before Manpasand shut down, GST officials raided its offices and arrested the CEO, CFO and a director. If you think about it, one of the reasons Manpasand got away with its fraud for as long as it did was that its accounts looked reasonably realistic. Deloitte made sure of that! Manpasand didnā€™t just arbitrarily put in fake numbers, oh no. It showed transactions to back them up with actual companies.
But any sales or purchases bring with it a cute goods and services tax, and the GST folks donā€™t care all that much about the fact that your sales are real. Theyā€™d like their share anyway. And not the GST you owe them, but because of how GST works, they would also want the GST your vendors (and your vendorsā€™ vendors) might owe them.
GST has this magical thing called ā€œinput tax creditā€ which is basically the GST council giving you magic points every time you pay GST as a customer. Say, you buy some glass to make some marbles. You pay GST when you buy that glass, and you get some magic points. When you sell your freshly manufactured marbles, you collect GST from your customers and can redeem those magic points which you got earlier to reduce the GST you actually pay. (This isnā€™t tax advice so donā€™t come after me if you mess up your taxes because of anything you read here.)
These points are nice because they help save tax. But a basic requirement to use these points is that the company you bought your glass from has to have paid their fair share of GST in the first place! You only get the points if theyā€™ve paid their tax! In Manpasandā€™s case the vendors it was dealing with existed solely for the purpose of enabling accounting fraud. Of course they werenā€™t going to be paying any tax. And yet Manpasand was claiming the magic points and reducing the GST it paid. These fake magic points is how the GST people figured out that there was something very wrong happening.
If the GST raid hadnā€™t happened, would Manpasand have survived as a company? Absolutely not. But would it have survived longer than it did? Probably.

Roll over, itā€™s a takeover

Things have already been a bit bizarre but what follows next is absolutely basket case. Hereā€™s a section of Manpasandā€™s response to SEBI. From SEBIā€™s order:
The Company is a victim of a pre-planned, fraudulent scheme and conspiracy perpetrated by Finquest Financial Solutions Pvt Ltd (FINQUEST) wherein under the garb of promise to provide working capital worth Rs.100 Crores, six documents were executed by and between MBL & FINQUEST. Within a span of two and a half months, it was clear that this entire so called transaction of providing working capital loan was nothing but a mere play to gain the entire control of MBL which is having asset base of around Rs.625 Croresā€¦
Finquest is an NBFC that lent money to Manpasand right after the GST raid happened and its officials were all in jail. Manpasand is claiming that Finquestā€™s goal wasnā€™t to just lend to the company and earn an interest income out of it, but to take over the company itself. Manpasand claims that Finquest defrauded it and even calls whatever they did a ā€œhostile takeoverā€.
Letā€™s humour this idea for a bit. If youā€™re a listed company worried about a hostile takeover, youā€™d look at whoā€™s buying your stock. Thatā€™s the normal way for hostile takeovers to work. You wake up one day to realise that Elon owns 9% of your and immediately fall into a state of panic. If you donā€™t own enough of your company, Elon just might.
Another hostile takeover could be by a distressed debt investor. You may have taken a loan from some banks or whoever some time back. The banks wouldā€™ve sold your loans to outside investors. But then because youā€™re in tough times, the investors would want to rid themselves of your loans at a discount. This distressed debt is then caught by investors trained in the art of recovering dollars from pennies. If you canā€™t repay your loans to these guys, they would be more than happy to squeeze it out of you.
This is what happened with Byjuā€™s US unit. But really, hostile takeovers arenā€™t common with distressed debt investors. They donā€™t want to run your company! They want their money back with some (a lot) of interest. [3]
Finquest lent to Manpasand, it didnā€™t buy its stock. So maybe this was the second kind of hostile takeover, the distressed debt kind? Well, hereā€™s Abhishek Singh, then director of Manpasand in an interview with Business Today back in 2019:
Business Today: Dhirendra Singh [the CEO] has accused Finquest of a hostile takeover bid, while Finquest claims that it was always mentioned in the term-sheet that the company will be managed by a professional team until its money was parked with you. It will be nice to get your side of the story.
Singh: Whatever amount has been transferred by the Finquest in the bank account of MBL was done in the new account opened by FFSPL's representatives in the name of MBL. The control of this new bank account lies with FFSPL's representatives. FFSPL was allowed operational access to business of MBL and not financial access, as per the term sheet dated July 3, 2019.
ā€¦As per the term sheet dated July 3, 2019, FFSPL had right to nominate two directors on the Board of Directors of MBL, which shall constitute minimum one-third strength of the Board. Pursuant to this clause, FFSPL appointed three directors instead of two. The total strength of the board became six directors, one-third of this comes to two. Thus, one more director being a nominee of FFSPL was appointed.
ā€¦ What? Manpasand borrowed money from Finquest but the bank account where the money came in was controlled by Finquest? And Finquest got ā€œoperational accessā€ (whatever that means) as well as a third of Manpasandā€™s board seats? This isnā€™t a hostile takeover! Itā€™s a lamblike takeover.
Honestly, I get it. Manpasandā€™s CEO and others were in jail. The company needed money. The only lender willing to lend to a shady company whose executives are in jail would be a shady lender. And that shady lender was Finquestā€”which, by the way, had done something similar beforeā€”but Manpasand took what it got.
If thereā€™s a second ā€œdonā€™t do this if youā€™re doing fraudā€ lesson in this, itā€™s this. Donā€™t borrow from a loan shark!
Footnotes
[1] A nice factoid is that Amit Mantri was the first to point out that Manpasand was manipulating its numbers all the way back in 2016. They did some really good on-ground research!
[2] The auditor that SEBI assigned to do this, Chokshi & Chokshi, came back with 12 findings from Manpasandā€™s accounts. But I think I found a couple of mistakes? It wouldnā€™t in any way affect SEBIā€™s conclusion on Manpasand, but I find it funny that a story which is essentially about an auditorā€™s massive failure to do its job also has an auditor that probably wasnā€™t too careful themselves? Iā€™ll probably write about this in a future post.
[3] A distressed debt investor would prefer to take over a company to be able to put it into bankruptcy so that it can sell the companyā€™s assets and recover its money. Thatā€™s very different from what the kind of takeover that Elon did of Twitter.

2024.05.17 09:27 Euphoric_Sun_6026 To save this show, should we do it old school?

Remember the good old days when people actually mail letters to the networks? Like fan letters and feedback letters. And when they receive so much that they have to carry it into their office in heavy boxes? That should get QUITE A BIT of attention on being vocal on this BS cancellation. If not, at least other potential takers will bat an eye on the news and this fan base's efforts. If each of us just sends one letter...
EDIT: If you think this is a good idea and want to pitch in, please comment where you want to start with. We can all then tally up the marks and start there. (Please read the first 3 comments for some details and the direction we're heading with.) Thanks guys!!! Toddies for life

Should Square Enix Revive The Chrono Series?
https://preview.redd.it/7ml338g9px0d1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d8ab920ff696b4416558012173ae7ba142ed7c11
Chrono Trigger from ā€™95 is widely considered as one of the most legendary RPGā€™s in video game history. Chrono Trigger has received nothing but praise since its release almost 30 years ago and its a title that should have spawned an entire video game series. While Chrono Trigger did get a direct sequel for original PlayStation console back in ā€™99 the game sold poorly despite great the game itself was. At one point Chrono Cross was supposed to get a sequel quite possibly for the PlayStation 2 during the 2000ā€™s known as Chrono Break before it was eventually cancelled. Ever since the cancellation of Chrono Break the closest thing we got to a sequel was a fan made online project title called Chrono Resurrection back in 2004. The Chrono Resurrection project was eventually abandoned due to Square Enix sending a cease and desist letter for copyright infringement leaving the gaming community unable to play the game online. Since then it seems like Square Enix has completely forgot about the Chrono series mainly because the Final Fantasy series was more popular during the 2000ā€™s and 2010ā€™s decades.
However, the latest Final Fantasy game FFXVI feel way below Square Enixā€™s desired expectations following the commercial failures of games like Forspoken and Marvelā€™s Avengers. It was reported back in September 2023 that Square Enix lost $2 billion following the release of Final Fantasy XVI months earlier in June. The idea of reviving an old IPā€™s that casual gamers are more familiar with like Chrono Trigger would sound like great idea for Square Enix right now. Despite, the Chrono series not being nearly as popular the Final Fantasy franchise a new entry would be something that would turn heads within the gaming world. Prior to 2020 Segaā€™s Streets of Rage series had been dead since the mid 90ā€™s and its latest entry ended up being their best one profit wise. It quite possible that a reboot of the Chrono series is something that could be beneficial to Square Enix especially considering how popular RPGā€™s are today in comparison to the 90ā€™s and early 2000ā€™s. A new Chrono Trigger game is something that Square Enix should definitely consider in relation to the 2020ā€™s decade.

McAfee fake bill scam
!fakePayment
I got an e-mail from a supposed subscription invoice of a McAfee Total Secure service. I doubt anyone is still using McAfee or paying for it at all.
I suspect a phishing scam where they will try to get Bank details or Credit Card information of the supposed account tied to the non existent subscription.
Be aware.

2024.05.17 07:58 emotional_being2508 How to deal with my controlling mom?

I'm 22(f), a software engineer, but I work from home so I stay with my family. Me and my mom never had a great relationship from the starting because she never seems to understand me and we almost disagree on each and every topic. So naturally, I don't tell her much what's going on in my life even when we live under the same roof. Now few weeks ago me and my brother joined gym together. Mind you, my brother is 5 years younger than me. We took 1 month membership as I was not sure how consistent I will be plus my brother is shifting to a new city for his college next month. Now after going for almost and about 2.5 weeks i want to extend my membership and maybe even take a personal trainer. I told my mom that and she's furious. She doesn't want me to take a personal trainer and also maybe discontinue the gym as my brother will be not there anymore. I seriously can't understand why. I told her that I'm given a diet, she didn't even listen that what the diet was and she says that I'm not fat so I don't need to follow diet and all. Also she's concerned that i'll gain weight once I leave the gym. It made me snap and we had a fight. And now here comes the drama "tum jaise baccho ki to maa honi nahi chahiye" "jo karna hai Karo meri aisi bhi konsi value hai" "ek kaan se suno meri baat aur dusre kaan se nikaldo, mai mar gayi hu yahi socho" All this just because I want to be fit, follow a diet and take a personal trainer that too with my own money. Now I have decided to do things my way, as i always have, to lie and hide. I'm going to take a personal trainer and not going to tell her that. But abhi diet ka idk how to manage. Any advice will be helpful.

2024.05.17 07:20 Eliyuu Trainer/gym split with 2 years experience

Hi guys,
I been working for a small gym for 2 years now, am looking to negotiate a new split. They paid half of my NASM cert and proposed a 50/50 split. I took it. They been feeding me client since. But now with the economy I donā€™t get much leads from them anymore (been dry for months).
Iā€™m in San Francisco charging $100/session. I have a HIGH client retention rate. Most of them have been with me since the beginning (my first client is still training with me). I think my personality and my BS in kinesiology really helped with the retention.
I have an average of 20 sessions per week (some cancel some vacation).
In my gym, Iā€™m the only trainer thatā€™s an employee. Other independent trainers are paying the gym $31 for session (I basically pay $50)
After I paid for my own CEUs, I want to renegotiated the split. Posting on here to see what everyoneā€™s advice would be.
Thanks in advance <3
