2024.05.19 00:17 hannahbeemild How do I know if this is "just my personality" or if I'm avoidant.. or if I'm just super chill?

I've been wondering about myself, now 30+, how much of my personality is simply easygoing, and how much of it is a result of avoidance and detachment and maybe being so neutral is not a good thing? How can I know?
If you met me, you would think I am pretty easy to hang with, I've been described as easygoing and chill and nice and unbothered by many of my friends. I rarely get involved or upset with big drama or issues. I am introverted, stay home most days. I'm usually the therapist friend that listens and gives good advice or a shoulder to cry on, I've always been a good supporter and cheerleader for others, and I prefer it that way. I rarely make huge waves about anything. If bad things happen, I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, I try to think of the fact that we are just specks of dust in the universe, I try to tell myself "it is what it is." My attitude towards most of life is to do no harm, try not to judge, and if you do, just keep quiet. I don't ever say things like "who cares" and I'm never dismissive, but I also try to remember that most issues and events and experiences in life are complex, nuanced, life is just always weird and hard and shit happens and we have to roll with it. I'm very NON-competitive and despise when people try to compete with me because I will absolutely not play that game. I am quiet and observant, speak up when I want to but usually I like to see what others do first. I am private but I still know how to keep a conversation lively and interesting, I don't shut people out or clam up. I like for everyone else to be comfortable, and think of myself later because others being okay is how I feel okay too. I need immense alone time. I go along with most situations and activities and events (unless I really hate it or can't stand it - then I will speak up or get myself away).
All that being said, you can probably tell what kind of person I am. Just quiet, nice girl on the side who doesn't do anything good or bad, generally good vibes but never in the spotlight.
I used to think that this is just who I am. I've always been a quiet kid. But... am I actually just avoidant? Do I "act" easygoing but I'm not? But I am... aren't I? Or did I train myself to be so chill that I actually just became it? Am I good "listener" friend because I like to listen and help, or because I don't like to share and be judged myself? Do I need so much alone time because I like being alone or because I don't want to deal with people? Or can it be both and still healthy? Am I neutral because I want to understand all points of view or because I don't ever want to be too involved in anything or any situation? I'm asking myself all these questions and I can't answer them. I'm confusing myself.
I just don't know. I'm doubting myself a lot these days. Do I keep myself hidden and quiet and neutral and "chill" so that I can be invisible and avoid life and people and humanity - or because I genuinely prefer it that way? Am I actually even easygoing or have I suppressed so much of myself that I have no choice but to be easygoing? How can I know these things for sure? I just can't remember the last time I really felt extremely passionate or upset about anything.. is this a result of me being too detached or am I just finally in a stable, secure place in life, with no drama or problems? Is the fact that I can't answer these questions, the answer in itself that something is wrong? Or am I overthinking?
I tried to keep this short so I apologize that I couldn't lol. I thought I could explain myself in a few words but it's just a lot going on my mind lately. Thank you all for your advice and perspectives in advance. I just want to know how other people think, or if you are a similar personality as me, how you feel about it? Do you ever question yourself like this?

2024.05.19 00:13 nickvader7 I asked GPT-4o to write a speech on the importance of the rifle in American history

My fellow countrymen, let us turn our minds back to the hallowed grounds where the indomitable spirit of liberty was forged and preserved, often under the shadow of peril and the clarion call to arms. Among the instruments of our struggle for freedom, none has left a more indelible mark upon our history than the rifle. This steadfast companion of the American soldier, the hunter, and the patriot has played a pivotal role in securing the blessings of liberty we hold dear today.
Consider, if you will, the frigid morning of April 19, seventeen seventy-five, when the first light of dawn revealed the brave minutemen gathered on the Lexington Green. Armed with little more than their rifles, these ordinary farmers stood against the might of the British Empire, their hearts ablaze with the desire for self-determination. As the smoke cleared, it was the resolute crack of those rifles that echoed the birth of a nation, a nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Throughout the ensuing years, the rifle remained a steadfast guardian of American freedom. In the dense forests of the Revolution, through the smoke-filled fields of the Civil War, and across the expansive frontiers of the West, it was the rifle that empowered our people to defend their homes, their principles, and their sacred honor. The names of battles and the tales of heroism are many, but they all resound with the same refrain: the rifle, wielded by those who sought not conquest, but the preservation of their cherished way of life.
Let us not forget the tales of individual valor, such as that of Sergeant Alvin York in the Argonne Forest during the Great War. With a rifle in hand, he single-handedly silenced enemy machine guns and captured scores of the foe, his actions echoing the steadfast resolve of our forefathers. It was his rifle that made his bravery possible, his rifle that turned the tide of battle, and his rifle that became a symbol of American tenacity and virtue.
In the annals of our nation's story, the rifle stands as a testament to the enduring power of the individual in the face of tyranny. It is more than a mere tool of war; it is a symbol of our right to defend our homes and our freedoms, a right enshrined in the very fabric of our Constitution. As we reflect upon the sacrifices made by those who have gone before us, let us remember the rifle not only as a weapon, but as a beacon of the unyielding spirit of liberty that defines us as a people.
In the rifle, we find a reminder that freedom is not granted, but earned and defended. It is a powerful symbol of the resolve and courage that has defined our nation's journey. May we continue to honor its legacy, and may it ever remind us of the price of liberty and the valor required to secure it.

2024.05.19 00:11 Valuable_Shift_2100 Surrounded by people and lonely

I miss the feeling of being comfortable, of being ‘at home’. In my head that’s with him. I don’t know how to break that feeling. Now, I have roommates and I force myself out of the house to be social, but I hate this new life. I miss my old life, when I felt safe and secure. I don’t know how to appreciate the present moment when all I can think about is how great the life I lost was.
He doesn’t love me anymore and doesn’t want to save our marriage. I’ve never felt so discarded and not good enough. I wish I could pull myself out of this depression, but I guess it’s just part of the process.

2024.05.19 00:06 One_Field_5234 Roommate from Hell

We need an “Entitled People” flair! Because this is definitely that.
I (41f) have quite a doozy of a story for you. I would normally tag this as an AITA, but let’s be honest, I’ve spent the last 4 years asking that of everyone I know, including therapists, and the answer is no.
Ok, this whole ride starts back in 2018, when I was 35. I had moved to the Midwest in 2017 for a travel job where I traveled 45-50 weeks a year. I had managed to get myself to a point in the company where they were willing to let me live anywhere and fly me out from there, so I wanted to move back to my home city where I had a bunch of friends. I was making amazing money, so I was able to afford my own place without roommates. However, my best friend (Dee, 33f at the time) was not making that kind of money at her job and she wanted to live in a specific place so her daughter could go to a specific school for K-8. She needed financial help, and I liked the idea of having someone around so there was food in the fridge when I got home at 11pm on Friday nights from a long flight. She asked me to move in with them, and I agreed. Her mother, her husband, and her daughter lived with her. Again, I was fine with this. I was only sleeping there for 1.5 nights a week. I had one room and I paid half of the rent. I shared a bathroom with her mom.
For a year I put up with a lot, and I acknowledge that a lot of this was on me. I’m a recovering people pleaser, after all. I paid for most meals when we went out. (I accept full responsibility for this, I didn’t want to eat alone and she couldn’t afford it.) I gave her money for groceries I didn’t use because I traveled for work. I helped her get her car back when it was repo’d, and a rental car with points that I had accumulated from travel for work. (She did pay me back for the funds I sent when it was repo’d.) I was often bullied and verbally abused by her mother, who was only nice to me when I gave them money.
By December of 2018, I was done. I started looking for 2/2 houses to buy. I wanted to live on my own, have my own space. I found a few and mentioned it to Dee. She immediately assumed I meant we were moving together and started sending me 4/3 houses. Again, I will take responsibility for this. I didn’t tell her no. At the time, it seemed easier not to start a fight. I was sure she would be mad if I told her I wanted to live alone, and I knew (and she made it quite clear that it was true) she couldn’t afford to live without me. I found a house that was a bit out of budget, but I could pay for myself without help, which was my only requirement. I refused to let myself get into a situation where I would default if I didn’t get her rent payments. It was a 5/3, so we had plenty of room for all of us. Even her mother, who was an unwelcome but permanent fixture in my life at this point.
Despite owning the home, all my things were STILL in my room. Their belongings took up all the common space, including the garage. And I don’t mean it was well decorated and nicely designed. I mean it was piled up around the house. I have pictures. I was still constantly bullied and berated by her mother. I was expected to watch her daughter for free at her whim. She would run to the store and not tell me she was leaving the kid. I was expected to pick her daughter up from school, take her to dance. I helped pay for dance frequently. I was still buying groceries I didn’t eat. I was paying for a house keeper just so that I could feel clean in my own house. A house I had no space in.
Let’s get to July 2020. I was five months pregnant, my fiancé had moved into my room in March 2020, along with all his stuff, we had gotten registry gifts and baby stuff. We had taken over the only room that had any space, and moved all their stuff out. There was still stuff in the closet in the nursery. I knew that I couldn’t go on like this. I couldn’t baby proof the house, I couldn’t fit her new things because theirs were everywhere. I didn’t want my baby to even MEET Dee’s mother. Ever. So, the week after the 4th of July (I was visiting with my family and talked through this with them), I asked her to move out. I gave her till mid-October. I waived all rent for August, September, and October to give her the funds to pay for a security deposit and movers.
She did not take it well. She stormed off, then texted me and called me terrible names. She said terrible things. Things that I didn’t feel I deserved and I told her that, I had helped her, taken care of her daughter, paid her way for over two years. I was allowed to be selfish for the sake of my daughter, and I was standing by that. She left with a friend and came back even more angry. I knew this would break us, but after that I didn’t really care.
I continued to watch her daughter at home for free. I helped her look at places, offering to keep her daughter if she needed to go alone. I still paid for groceries. I stopped buying her dinners. I was done. Her mother said horrible things about me on social media. I blocked her.m and anyone in her circle that tried to come for me. I continued to gift Dee things throughout her moving process. Shelves, furniture, games. She proceeded to weaponize her daughter, saying that I was kicking out the child and having her ask me why she had to move repeatedly.
She got keys for her new place September 18th. It took her over 4 weeks to move out. While I was in the hospital having my daughter in mid October, her last load of stuff left the house. She wasn’t the one to move it, a mutual friend did (and cleaned the house from top to bottom for me while I was having my baby).
On November 27th, it all exploded. I noticed that she had unfriended me on Facebook, so I messaged her. She accused me of betraying her, kicking them out, and dropping her and her daughter. She accused me of forcing them into an apartment during a pandemic, of turning my back on them. She accused me of being selfish. (Which, fine, I agree with. I wanted my family to live in my house without having to squeeze in around someone else’s things.)
Her mother messaged me hateful things. Truly toxic. She told me to stay away from her family. I blocked her immediately. Dee wasn’t far behind. I blocked them and I didn’t look back. That’s what they wanted.
I wish her no ill will, but I will never consider letting her or any of those loyal to her back into my life.
As of today, as I write this, she is just someone I used to know.

2024.05.18 23:56 DanceCivil Can someone explain to me why some companies use as many separate communication methods as possible?

I've been breaking into office work and work from home stuff lately.
Both the companies I've worked for so far cannot seem to understand how little sense it makes to me that they can't stick to one or two messaging services. I'd understand like, email and a instant messaging service like slack.
The current company I'm working for made me download slack, make a new email for work, but they still send about 25% of the emails to the personal address I signed up with, they made me get zoom, some of my bosses send me shit on LinkedIn like I check that every 5 seconds, they had me add everyone on Facebook, AND sign up for a work type Facebook thing where I only interact with people in the company, and for some reason our time off requests go through this social media platform but literally nothing else does, except social interactions and workplace achievements. Plus all my coworkers are trying to get me to sign up for WhatsApp instead of just texting me or messaging me on one of the 3 other apps I already downloaded to talk to them. On top of this they have like 4 websites they own and run with all the documentation and guidelines you need to do the work separately.
I imagine there are probably security issues or something but like I've noticed a lot of problems with both slack and zoom that would seemingly be solved by just switching to fucking discord. Zoom crashes 6 times every meeting I have so I look like dumbass yet I can stream a game and webcam footage on discord while 6 other people do the same, I get reprimanded for accidentally posting in a channel I'm not allowed to in slack... Yet In a half ass fan discord you can't even post in half the channels without permission yet they can't manage my channel permissions correctly in slack? There's no way that isn't a feature in slack. I have to constantly have 6 tabs open because anyone could message me on any service at any given time instead of just using slack. And for some reason I can't find a search feature on slack so if I need to see a message from a week or two ago to avoid asking a question and having someone say "we answered that last week" I have to spend a full 5-15 minutes scrolling through the channel.
Why do companies think they want this? I feel like at least a third of my productivity is being fuckshambled by having to bumblefuck around in 6 different services apps and websites to communicate with my team and get the information I need to do my job, why can't we just keep it all in one or two places?

2024.05.18 23:53 SargentBroadway Is This Normal For A Lowe's Interview?

(This happened about a month ago but I'm still confused)
I had the interview set up for a few weeks now. I arrived on site about 10 minutes early as the email requested. Security couldn't contact HR for a good 5 minutes. They ended up dialing another department and sent me through, informing me someone would be waiting in the HR office to tour and interview me. I got there, nobody was there. I stayed for about 5 minutes before walking down the cubicles and asking if I was in the wrong place. More phone calls before my information was taken down and they found someone to tour me. I asked about the interview I was supposed to conduct and the man touring me said to just go home and HR would contact me about it later.
Two weeks later after a bunch of phone calls, finally got an email saying they weren't going to hire me. No drug test, no interview, just a 5-minute rushed tour. Is this normal?

2024.05.18 23:41 Sweet-Count2557 Best Travel Toys For 5 Month Old

Best Travel Toys For 5 Month Old
Best Travel Toys For 5 Month Old
Exploring the world with a baby can be an exciting adventure. But, while they may not have any say in where you go and what you do, it’s important to bring along some of their favorite things too!
Choosing the right travel toys for your 5 month old is essential for ensuring that both your little one and yourselves are happy on the road. As a travel expert specializing in infant journeys, I'm here to guide you through selecting the Best Travel Toys For 5 Month Old that will keep them entertained and content during those long car or plane rides!
Rattles And Teethers
Traveling with an infant can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be! With the right travel toys for your 5-month-old baby, you can make sure that every journey is enjoyable.
Rattles and teethers are essential for any trip - they give babies something to hold, soothe them when upset, and provide hours of entertainment.
For traveling purposes, lightweight rattles are ideal - look for ones made from soft materials like cloth or silicone, as those will easily fit in a diaper bag. If possible, find options that come with different textures and shapes; this way you'll keep your little one's attention longer. Soothing sounds are also key: pick out some musical options that will help lull them into peaceful slumber while on the go.
When choosing rattles and teethers for your 5 month old baby, always consider portability and convenience over size and complexity. Traveling should never mean sacrificing comfort; by equipping yourself with the right tools you can ensure your child has all the sensory stimulation they need without having to lug around extra items along the journey. And who knows? You might even enjoy it too!
Books And Music
Now that you have chosen the rattles and teethers for your 5 month old, it is time to think about other toys they can enjoy while traveling. Books and music are great options since they both provide an educational opportunity as well as entertainment during long trips.
For books, look into interactive ones with bright colors and fun characters. These types of books will keep your baby entertained throughout the journey:
A touch-and-feel book with different textures on each page
An alphabet board book that teaches letter recognition
A pop-up book made from sturdy paper that stands up to wear and tear
Interactive music is also a great tool for keeping your infant engaged during travel. Consider these musical items:
A toy instrument like a xylophone or drum set so your little one can make their own tunes
Educational songs featuring animal noises, counting, letters, etc.
Playlists of calming classical music for naps in transit
With books and music at hand, you'll be able to create a learning environment no matter where you are! Keep in mind that safety comes first when selecting any type of toy; always double-check age recommendations before purchasing anything for your 5 month old.
Soft Toys
It won't be long before you and your 5-month old baby are packing up the car for a road trip. As an expert in infant travel, I recommend having soft toys, to keep them entertained as well as comfortable during their travels. Here's a list of some of my favorite travel toy companions:
ToyAge RangeWeightTeddy Bear Rattle0+ Months2 lbs.Cuddle & Coo Owl3+ Months.99 lbs.Soft Book0+ Months1 lbLamaze Activity Gym0+ Months4 lbs.
Soft toys are great when traveling with an infant because they provide sensory stimulation through bright colors and engaging textures. They also give babies something familiar to hold onto while exploring new sights, sounds, and smells on the open road. Plus, they're small enough to fit into diaper bags or backpacks without taking up too much space! When it comes time to say goodbye to home comforts, these beloved friends can serve as a reminder that no matter how far away from home we may go, there will always be something along for the ride that is sure to make us feel loved and secure - even if it’s only just a little plush bear rattle!
Activity Mats
Traveling with a 5-month old can be both exciting and daunting. To make it easier, having the right travel toys is essential.
Activity mats are perfect for keeping your baby entertained during long trips. They’re lightweight, foldable, and easily stored away when not in use. Plus they come in many different designs that promote imaginative play and sensory exploration through tactile materials.
Activity mats provide endless hours of fun at home or on the go because they’re made from durable yet soft baby-safe materials like cotton and foam which makes them travel-friendly too! Your little one will love exploring all the textures and colors of the mat while developing motor skills as well as hand-eye coordination. They’ll also love getting lost in their own world of pretend play using various shapes, patterns, and objects found on the activity mat!
Your 5 month old deserves to enjoy every journey with you just as much as you do! With an activity mat, they won’t only have something entertaining to play with but something that promotes learning too – making it a win-win situation for everyone involved!
So why wait? Get creative with your travels by investing in some portable toys that your baby can cherish no matter where life takes them.
Stacking Blocks And Puzzles
Ah, the joys of traveling with an infant! Nothing quite compares to it. It's a special time - and one that can be made even more enjoyable when you have the right travel toys for your 5-month old little one.
Here are some ideas that just might make life on the go a bit easier:
Stacking blocks and puzzles: These are great for helping babies develop their fine motor skills while learning about colors, shapes, numbers, letters and other concepts. Not only do they provide hours of fun but also help create strong cognitive connections in young minds.
Building Blocks: This is another favorite among five month olds because they allow them to experiment with gravity as well as discover new ways to build structures by connecting pieces together. Plus, building blocks come in all sorts of colors and shapes which helps stimulate tactile senses as well sensory development too.
Sensory Toys: Finally, consider investing in a few sensory toys (rattles, teethers, or stuffed animals) that will help engage the baby’s sense of hearing, touch, and sight while on the move. Just make sure they aren't too noisy so as not to disturb other travelers!
Traveling with an infant doesn't need to be stressful – especially if you plan ahead and pick up a couple of age-appropriate items like stacking blocks or puzzles before heading out on your journey.
With these simple tips in mind, you'll be able to enjoy yourselves during those long days spent away from home without breaking the bank either!
Push And Pull Toys
When it comes to traveling with a 5-month old, push-and-pull toys can provide an invaluable source of entertainment.
From bouncy seats to travel strollers, these items are guaranteed to keep your little one engaged during even the longest trips.
If you're searching for something that's easy to transport and set up quickly, a bouncy seat is ideal. Its lightweight design makes it simple to move from place to place without taking up too much space. Plus, its soft material is comfortable enough for prolonged periods of use.
Travel strollers offer more stability than traditional ones due to their durable frames and tight turns capabilities. The ergonomic handlebars make them particularly convenient when navigating busy streets or tight corners in airports. Furthermore, they contain ample storage compartments so parents can easily store all the essentials while on the go – like snacks, extra clothes, and diapers!
All in all, push and pull toys are must-haves for any parent looking for a stress-free experience when travelling with young babies.
Activity Centers
When it comes to travel toys for a 5 month old, activity centers offer a great range of educational benefits.
Not only can they help promote cognitive development, but they also provide a stimulating environment to help your little one practice their motor skills.
Before you buy an activity center, it's important to ensure you're following all safety guidelines to ensure the safety of your baby.
Educational Benefits
When it comes to educational benefits, activity centers are a great way for 5 month olds to learn and develop new skills! They're designed with language development and motor skill growth in mind.
Plus, the bright colors and fun sounds provide plenty of stimulation for their growing minds. And when you're traveling, these all-in-one toys can be easily packed away or even attached to the stroller so your little one has access to them wherever they go.
With an activity center, you can rest assured that your child's learning process is not put on pause during your travels - allowing them to continue to grow and have fun along the journey! So why wait? Invest in an activity center today for your 5-month-old traveler – because nothing beats being able to take education on the road.
Motor Skill Development
As a dedicated travel expert and consultant for baby/infant travels, I know how important it is to help your little one grow even while on the go.
Motor skill development can be achieved in many different ways with an activity center! Playing with buttons, pulling strings, pushing levers, or turning knobs - they're all great ways to enhance their motor skills.
Plus, these activities will also encourage socializing as you talk about what each part does.
What's more? These toys are designed so that they can easily transition from playtime to bathtime without any fuss.
So don't wait - get an activity center today and watch your child learn new skills wherever the road takes them!
Safety Guidelines
When traveling with an infant or toddler, it's important to consider safety guidelines. This is especially true when using activity centers!
Make sure that the center has a secure base and won't move once placed on any surface. Additionally, avoid leaving your little one unattended for long periods of time - even if they are sitting in their activity center.
Babysitting tips such as having another adult present can help you enjoy some well-deserved freedom while still keeping your child safe. Don't forget: use common sense and make sure all parts are age appropriate before letting them play!
With these simple rules, there's no reason why both parents and children alike shouldn't be able to travel safely while enjoying the benefits of an activity center.
Baby Gyms
The activity centers are great for keeping your 5 month old occupied at home, but when it comes to travel safety and entertainment on the airplane, baby gyms have you covered.
Baby gyms come in different shapes and sizes that easily fold away so they can fit into your carry-on luggage with no problem. Many of them even come equipped with a mirror, hanging toys, and activities designed specifically to stimulate developing minds.
Baby gyms provide ample opportunities for exploration during flights, as well as being safe enough to use in confined spaces like an airplane cabin or hotel room. You don't need to worry about loose parts or small pieces getting lost; most models incorporate all the elements into one interactive unit.
Traveling parents will also appreciate that the setup is quick and easy – just unroll it from its compact carrying case and pop out the connecting rods - so there's plenty of time left over for exploring new places!
These versatile items make long journeys more enjoyable by providing endless hours of fun without taking up too much space in your travel bag. Plus, given their unique designs, your 5 month old won't be able to resist discovering what lies inside these colorful play areas!
Playpens
As a travel expert specializing in baby/infant travel, I recommend playpens as one of the best options for keeping your 5 month old safe and entertained during trips. Playpens offer convenience and portability, allowing you to keep an eye on your little one wherever you go. Plus, they can make any unfamiliar environment more secure and comfortable for babies.
Here are some tips when choosing the right playpen:
Look for models with adjustable heights so that it can grow with your child’s needs.
Select lightweight designs that fold easily and come with carrying cases or straps for extra mobility.
Choose materials that are easy to clean and transport without taking away from comfort.
Make sure the playpen meets safety standards like ASTM International Standards before purchasing.
When traveling with your infant, it's important to have a secure place where you can set them down safely while still having access to their belongings such as toys or diapers. Playpens provide peace of mind by giving parents control over their child’s surroundings without sacrificing freedom or spontaneity of movement during holidays or excursions abroad.
The key is finding a balance between practicality, portability, and kid-friendly features—playpens provide just that!
Stuffed Animals
Stuffed animals may seem like a classic, but often overlooked option when it comes to travel toys for 5-month-olds. But don't be fooled: they can provide just as much comfort and entertainment on the road as all those other fancy gadgets.
Portable cuddles and soft sensory stimulation are what make these playthings so great – not to mention that there's something special about loving a stuffed animal from infancy through adulthood.
One of the best things about travel toys in this category is their size. Tiny teddy bears, bunnies, and dinosaurs fit easily into carry-on bags (or even pockets) without taking up too much space or adding extra weight.
These small wonders also come at an affordable price point, allowing parents to stock up on multiple items without breaking the bank. Plus, since most babies love snuggling with something soft, it's easy to find one that suits your little one's individual preferences.
You can have some fun playing around with different textures when you select your baby's new companion. Experimenting with fabrics like plush fur and corduroy gives them plenty of tactile exploration opportunities while providing comforting companionship whenever needed during your travels together.
So go ahead and give the tried-and-true stuffed animal a chance: odds are it'll become your infant's favorite toy in no time!
Frequently Asked Questions
What Age Should My Child Be Before I Start Traveling With Them?
When it comes to traveling with your infant, the most important factor to consider is their age.
Generally speaking, you should wait until at least 6 months before beginning any kind of travel plans for a baby - this gives them time to build up an immunity and strength in order to handle the stresses and environmental changes associated with being on the go.
Additionally, having all your packaging essentials (diapers, wipes, formula, etc) ready beforehand will help make sure that everything goes as smoothly as possible when you leave home.
When done right, traveling with a young child can be a fun and rewarding experience – just remember to plan ahead!

When selecting travel toys for your 5 month old, it is important to consider safety first.
Choosing materials that are non-toxic and durable will ensure your baby's health and well-being.

As a travel expert specializing in infant travel, I highly recommend considering these factors when choosing the best travel toys for your little one!
How Can I Make Sure That My 5 Month Old Stays Entertained While Traveling?
Traveling solo with a 5-month-old can be quite the challenge, especially when it comes to keeping them entertained. However, with some clever planning and socializing tips, you can make sure your little one has an enjoyable journey.
You'll need to select toys that are age-appropriate, small enough to fit in their bag, and safe for travel use. Look for items like teething rings or rattles that will keep them interested while also helping them learn new skills such as grasping and reaching.
Additionally, provide plenty of stimulation through conversations and songs during long trips! With these strategies in place, you can ensure a fun-filled adventure for both parent and baby alike!
How Often Should I Replace Or Upgrade My 5 Month Old's Travel Toys?

2024.05.18 23:37 mlptwt my brother

trigger warnings: smoking , sexual assault
i’m so sick of my brother. everyone around me is telling me to “give him another chance” but i just can’t anymore.
he got caught smoking in the school bathroom (he’s 14) and was expelled (in march), he then was sent to a rehab center.
6 days later, he was in the hospital because his “roommate had sexually assaulted him”, and he was obviously sent home (i recently found out from the hospital that he lied about the assault so that he could leave early and was caught admitting to other kids on by security camera). he then went to live with my aunt and enrolled in a school there but was expelled for lying about smoking.
he had come home and used his TV to reset our router. this turned off all the motion sensors and cameras my parents have to monitor him. he used a knife to unlock the door to the office (where we keep the wifi router) and he unplugged it, which makes the sensors and cameras completely useless for however long he wants. he then used the knife to break into our garage (which we also keep locked bc of him) and he stole my fathers tesla. we have no idea what he did either.
after all that, my parents sent him to a new rehab center in CT. not even 5 hours in, he falsely accused a nurse of hitting him (which again, was on camera), and the next day, accused a kid (who had never met him) of beating him up. the rehab center was required to send him to a hospital for a checkup, and right as he was about to be taken back to the rehab center, he made a run for it. he was missing for a few hours before being caught and put on psychiatric lockdown.
he’s coming home today as his lockdown has ended and i don’t want to deal with him. he’s not only a huge burden on my parents lives, but he’s also violently homophobic, ablest, and constantly makes fun of my weight. i’m so tired.

2024.05.18 23:32 microplazma Birthday Bread for Mom

Birthday Bread for Mom
I actually brought my starter through TSA so that I could make my mom fresh bread for her birthday. Brought all my supplies (except the lame) and mixed the levain in the airport after I got through security haha. I had to go to 3 different grocery stores here before I could find bread flour. I went for a lower hydration than I usually do to minimize my risk of messing it up. It's hot down here and she blasts the AC so the kitchen was super cold compared to when I make bread at home (hence BF in the oven). My mom's oven is a little weird and I didn't realize she didn't have a thermometer, so there was no way of me knowing when the oven was at temp. She also didn't have a sharp knife for scoring so I used an exacto knife 🙃 it still turned out great and she was over the moon!

2024.05.18 23:30 Excellent-Ad-5906 Abode HomeKit issues constantly

Does anyone else have any issues with the anode security system and HomeKit? I’ve talked to their support for weeks and they’re blaming Apple for why notifications and automations fail frequently with abode.
Example: I use the abode keypad and arm in HOME mode. Lights turn off or turn down to low. Nothing crazy for the automation. This works. After about a day or a few hours the automations do not trigger and I have to restart the abode system. This is insanely annoying.
Abode support says this is an issue with HomeKit and not their system. Any other users know about this or have the same issues?

2024.05.18 23:25 LethalPotato05 So done with real-estate agents and landlords

I just moved here is only been TWO weeks, and I can't help but feel increasingly frustrated with the way tenants are treated here. It’s become painfully clear that as a tenant, you have virtually no rights or protections against landlord or real-estate injustices.
First off, let's be honest: renting a house is never really your own. No matter how much you pay or how long you stay, it always feels like you're just a step away from being shown the door. Landlords and their agent hold all the power, and any attempt to protect yourself or assert your rights can lead to threats of eviction.
Recently, I tried to address a basic maintenance issue with my landlord on the mistakes made y his agents team only to be met with hostility and a warning that I could be kicked out if I persisted to fight it. It’s a common story here—complaints about repairs, rent increases, or even basic disagreements can lead to eviction threats. It's like walking on eggshells all the time. In the end I obviously have to apologise because where will I go?
The rental agreements heavily favor landlords. Clauses are often skewed against tenants, and legal recourse is lengthy and complicated, making it almost impossible for tenants to fight back effectively. The fear of losing your home overnight is very real, and it's something many of us live with daily.
Bangalore’s rental market is booming, but this growth hasn't translated into fair practices for tenants. The demand for housing often means tenants have to accept unfair terms just to secure a place to live. And once you're in, any sign of dissent can jeopardize your housing situation.
It’s disheartening and exhausting. As tenants, we deserve better protections and a more balanced system that doesn't leave us vulnerable to the whims of landlords abd their lovely agents. Until there are stronger tenant rights and better regulations in place, renting for those of us who move here to live our lives will continue to be a stressful and uncertain experience.
How do you cope with the lack of tenant rights here? I just feel so lost.
PS - THIS isn't kanadiga hate the real-estate agents and landlords are not kanada folx anyway.

Some things I’ve noticed as a newbie to Widgey
Hi all.
I just got an upgrade last week to iPhone 15 pro and fell in love with widgets. The stock Apple widgets are great but widget has more to offer a creative like myself.
I’ve noticed a few things: No notification badges is a shame, but understandable for security. However it does mean that all apps I use with important notifications like social media apps, mail and other daily apps I use for work must stay on the Home Screen as is. That is unless I’m constantly checking for new notifications.
The lack of certain apps not having url schemes to even simply open the apps is frustrating, such as the native iOS clock app. Means I also must have that on my Home Screen too.
Having to run shortcuts to open apps not natively in the widgey app doesn’t suit me as I don’t want shortcuts to be always opening in the background.
The weather features also seem to be wrong despite setting the location accurately. Today the temp showed almost 8 degrees lower than it actually was using the ‘weather [now] (simple)’ selection.
I do love the creative aspect of the app but finding it hard to be creative with these restrictions.
Attached is my first Home Screen. Used a widgey large widget and made it cleaner, added another calendar line and replaced some weather graphs with apps (that I use frequently but don’t have notification badges).
Am I alone?

2024.05.18 23:14 Defying_Gravitas Motive Question

The Commonwealth is asking the jury to believe that Karen's motive to deliberately mortally injure John was...
a) because she was sad that they didn't get enough alone time due to the kids
b) that all their arguments were usually about the kids
c) that she wishes his family would be a little more proactive/involved with the kids
d) that she was upset about John allegedly giving someone a kiss in Aruba over their NYE trip
e) because John scolded her for "spoiling the kids" because she was taking K to dunks for breakfast
f) because they were attending an after-party near the home of "Bella's Mom"
Based on the little we know about Karen, she is a responsible, motivated, hardworking, career-driven, financially secure, mature adult who has been okay with "doing life" independently/unmarried for her 42+ years.
Nothing demonstrates a history of vendettas, mental illness, or impulsivity.
It generally takes a lot more than that for couples to break up or even divorce. We're supposed to accept that he solution was to murder him?

2024.05.18 23:00 xk_Silhouette First 2 Nights from Different Sections (Pro Tips and Observations)

Friends, I did the first two nights from different sections. I was second row in 207 the first night, and then second row of 307 the second night. (I'll be doing third night in the 100s for a floor comparison and can update this later with a third experience.) I wanted to add some notes on my experience here in case it helps.
Note: I turned on the spoiler tag because of the level of detail, but have tried to not give anything away other than what I needed to inform your experience if you haven't been.
(Edited to add a few details.)
Yes, it's worth it. It is incredible. The shows are great, and it will be its own experience to see them here. The Sphere is like getting an entire second show visually on top of the music. They have put something really special together. No reason to be on the fence: if you can make it, you should.
Section comparison. I don't think there is a bad seat in the Sphere, and everyone I talked to enjoyed it wherever they were (though I didn't talk to anyone with an obstructed view).
That said, there are some tradeoffs. Down on the floor seemed to be the die hard fans and best energy. Several people said they thought the overall view in the 300s was probably the best for taking everything in with the height and that little extra distance. I found the 300s a little bit less immersive and little more chill--a great night 2 seat for me. The 200s are a balance between the Sphere and the Band and best of both worlds. I definitely felt more "in it" in the 200s.
I do think that being towards a center section of the Sphere is more important than being down a level and closer, and more important than being a few rows closer inside of a section. On the wings it seems like the visuals would be less immersive because you have a stronger sense of where the wall is in your vision field.
I didn't find the 200s to be steep, but the 300s were a bit as you're getting in and out. It took a few minutes to adjust, but I had no issues after that. This does seem to be a bigger concern in the 400s, so consider moving down if you don't care for heights and if that will impact your experience.
And, compared to other venues (especially baseball stadiums) that are a bit cramped, I found the seats themselves comfortable and had plenty of space. The incline also makes it easy to see the band from anywhere.
I really liked seeing shows from different seats the last two nights and encourage that if it's an option for you. It's a different view and experience each time and keeps it fresh.
Visuals. I don't know who dreamed this up but it is surreal. It fills your vision and is like wearing a VR headset with 15k other fans. It feels at times like you are sitting in a space ship, or on a roller coaster. It's a ride-- Photos and video cannot capture it because of the sheer scale of it.
The opening visuals for the first song are chill, then they blow the doors off the place with the second song. Because of that, I think opening set songs will be a little more warm up, and the second song in the first set will bring the energy. The closing visuals appear to also be the same night to night.
In between, they do repeat many of the visuals night to night, but several of them are generic enough where they can be used for many different songs (and still fun to watch and impressive). Some of those are more "static" than the headline videos that you are seeing circulating, and that puts the emphasis back on the music for stretches.
There were some new visuals on Night 2, maybe 20% or so of them. We'll see in time as they continue to roll new ones out and mix and match what songs they play to what.
The visuals can be a little disorienting. This is because it's intense. Even when you know it's a screen, it is so big it tricks you. Night 1 I found myself needing to sit down for a minute. Two things that helped me: One, turn around and look back at the seating, especially where the screen ends at the top. That helped my brain remember where we were. Second, looking at it through my phone when I took a few videos also grounded me. Overall, this was minor for me, I bounced back in a minute or so, and I loved it.
Sound. I found it plenty loud, but saw some comments that it wasn't enough for some others liking. I think if you are acclimated to the outdoor tour amphitheater experience, that tends to be louder because they push volume out further outdoors. In the Sphere they don't need to do that. What you get in exchange is a more balanced sound. No complaints here.
They did seem to dial it in a bit and got more bass second night. I didn't notice it so much, but a few folks around me commented. Making some minor adjustments as they learn by playing the venue and getting fan feedback is to be expected, and I'm glad to see it.
Haptics. Night one there were a few songs where they turned on the seat haptics, but it did not feel sync'd to the music until D&S. Night 2 they were only used for drums and space, and somehow Mickey controls them or they are sync'd to certain of his kit. I thought it was very cool N2 and how I hope it goes. They are amazing for D&S and I highly recommend sitting for that and not treating it like a second intermission. The seats and the visuals make it a totally different experience.
Encore. They will do an encore-type song, but they don't leave the stage. Without spoiling, there is a short visual presentation (about a minute) after set 2 closer and then they play one more. This was consistent both nights, so don't expect more tunes after that, that's how they're fitting it in this go round.
Intermission. The bathroom lines really did get long. I guess that's always true at intermissions, but this felt longer than other venues, though they did keep it moving. This was the only minor complaint I had.
If the line on your floor is long, it seemed to move faster and less crowded on the lower levels. Sphere staff was excellent, and was communicating with each other and were telling fans they could go down a level for a shorter line.
Food and drinks at the Sphere. They have a bit of both, but a lot more barstands than food. I didn't eat there, but they had decent cocktails. There are bars on each level, and for beer and seltzers they had some wall coolers grab-and-go style. Other than intermission lines were never too bad. Stadium pricing hurts, but is to be expected.
Dead Experience at the Venetian. This was cool to see and is easy to check out while you're around. It is on the lower level where Palazzo starts by the LOVE sign, near the restaurants and shopping.
Be sure to go upstairs: the photo collection exhibit and Mickey Hart's artwork exhibits are up there and both neat. You can do it all in 30-60 minutes. There was no line while I was there. They do sell tour posters, but were already selling out morning of Day 2.
Merch. The merch at the Dead Experience at the Venetian during the day is different than what they have at the Sphere during shows. There is overlap, but there were some of the same styles in different colors. So far, none of it is available online.
Posters. Yes, there is a different poster each night. They also have weekend posters (with all three nights on them) and full tour posters. Tour posters had a limited run in foil, and then regular matte posters.
Security. They did not seem to be checking or care about vapes. It looked like every third person in line held theirs up in their hand with their phone as they walked through.
Getting in and out of the Venue. This overall ran really smoothly. I am not staying at the Venetian, so the first night I took a cab from the south end of the strip for about $20. Some traffic getting in, but once I was dropped off it was really quick getting into general entrance. Second night I got dinner at Venetian and took their sky bridge. That was a longer line, but still got through in about 15 minutes.
So if you're having dinner at the Venetian, I'd plan to walk over by about 645. It was about a fifteen minute walk, then a bit of line at security, but you'll get in with no stress and should have time to grab a drink. A 5pm reservation somewhere should give you plenty of time if you tell your server.
Shows get out around 11.30, and then it's either a walk back to Venetian or to the cab line. I was getting back to my hotel around midnight. If you started with dinner at 5 before the show, it's a long night.
Pace Yourself. Three days is a lot anywhere, but in Vegas you're on your feet during the day, it's hot, and the Sphere is an intense experience. It'll add up. Take it easy where you can.
Travel safe, and may the four winds blow you all safely home.

2024.05.18 22:58 Intelligent-Funny303 Dating - need advice

Hi everyone,
I’m a 30-year-old woman who’s never been in a relationship. I come from a toxic family and have cut all ties with them. Despite this, I put myself through school, work as an accountant from home, and am financially stable. I also suffer from a neurological condition, which requires frequent medication changes and causes significant fatigue and side effects. This makes it hard for me to date or be social.
I want to get into a relationship and eventually create a healthy family of my own, but my health challenges and past trauma make it difficult. I’m not in a rush to get married; I just want to find the right person. I volunteer for charities, attend galas , love photography, blogging ( use to have a fashion blog ), dance and workout when my body permits me to . I travel twice a year and can make gnocchi from scratch lol . Also , people find it hard to believe I have an illness since I do not look like what I’m going through. Most of the things I do are women oriented .
I do feel insecure about not being family oriented and having an illness . I like men who love being outdoors , family oriented and goal oriented. In a perfect world , I would be running marathons, see my family every weekend and feel secured . It feels awkward on dates when men ask me about my life especially my family. I’m in therapy for this since I want to feel better mentally and at peace with my decision of cutting off my family .
How can I put myself out there given my circumstances? Also, what do men think of women who have cut off their toxic families? Where can I meet men ? Are there patient men out there ? lol I no longer use dating apps .
Thanks for any advice or insights!

2024.05.18 22:49 Lost-Initiative-3844 Trial run with rescue didn’t work out… I feel awful

Last week me and my husband discussed doing a trial run with a dog from the local shelter to see how he’d do in our home, with our current Pup, Blue. Blues been my best friend since the day I got him and I owe my life to him. He’s my other half.
Blue is 5 years old, he’s been an only dog his whole life, and he’s a people dog. He’s never shown much interest in other dogs. Not mean or aggressive to them, but also not overly excited to play with them.
We took blues personality into consideration and since this dog is the same breed we thought maybe we’d give it a shot and see how it goes. Me and my husband sat down and talked and said if it was too much for blue, too much for the new rescue, or the first signs of aggression or territorial behavior shows, the shelter will take him back. Which is exactly what this trial run is for.
The first three days were fine. The two dogs have been playing, I was actually really surprised blue was as interested in the new rescue as he was.
This dog needed a lot of training which we were willing to put in. He needed a lot of attention and is a very jealous dog so that was something we needed to work on as well.
Last night, the two dogs got into a bit of a fight. My dog blue was playing with his toy, laying down, relaxed and the rescue had ran up to take it from him, and blue had snapped and started a fight. Blue doesn’t show any signs of aggression EVER. He is the sweetest boy and is not a resource guarder what so ever. He’s never shown this behavior to any human or dog before.
Neither got hurt and the fight was separated immediately - And I instantly told my husband it wasn’t going to work. Seeing my dog blue in that manor broke my heart - and seeing this new dog who just wanted to play get snapped at and scared from my dog made me even more upset.
I told my husband I was going to call the shelter tomorrow and ask to end the trial run early as I just don’t think it’s a right fit for Blues personality. That one fight made me so scared for this other dogs safety and comfortability in our home, that I couldn’t have it happen again. We separated the dogs for the night, and called the shelter today.
The shelter was able to take the dog back, however they treated me and my husband like awful people for it. Which broke me. I wanted to give this dog a home to feel safe and secure in and I couldn’t provide that for him. But I’m not going to make my dog change his personality to fit a dog that may do better in another home. This behavior he showed wasn’t okay obviously and will be watched for more signs like it in the future, but I’m not going to force Blue to like other dogs in a way we need him to for this to work. They made me feel like my dog was a bad dog for just simply wanting to be an only dog. They said “dog fights are normal in new house holds” which didn’t seem right to me…
The new dog went back to the shelter, which works with a prison and the inmates (non violent and approved inmates of course) are actually able to take care of the dogs and play with them until they’re able to find a home for the dogs. This gave me some peace of mind knowing he wouldn’t just be shoved in a kennel waiting for somebody else to give him the chance.
My husband however is now upset with me. He thinks I over reacted about one little dog fight and that I needed to give the dog another chance. I just don’t think I had it in my heart to see either dog in the situation they were in last night. It’s not fair to either of them.
I feel like the bad guy now, Like I gave up too quick, like I failed this dog, and like I did something wrong for wanting him to go to another home and returning him to the shelter. But it also makes me feel like my dog is a bad guy, like he’s a bad dog for showing this behavior.
Some word of advice would be greatly appreciated. I feel like I did something absolutely awful, but I know if I kept this dog, the outcome could’ve made me feel 10x worse with the chance of something happening.
