2024.05.17 12:33 Round_Ad_9620 I think I'm afraid to transition because it feels like I already missed boyhood, so there's no point.

I'm so close. I really am. I often feel like I'm waiting to be 20lbs lighter or have visible biceps, or something that makes me feel legitimate as a man; but I think it's more complex than that.
I think I'm still stuck grieving the boy I tried to be very organically, but was spat on as a weird nobody-girl child. I'm realizing I enjoyed playing alone so much as a child because it allowed me to enjoy my boyhood... without perceiving myself or being perceived through that lens.
Even still, I feel deeply self-conscioust that I've missed every defining moment that makes other men in my life the men that they are. I suppose I must feel a kind of nakedness, then.
If I'll never match up, it almost feels like going on T and trying is money & effort spent trying to cosplay a man very poorly.
No one took me hunting, as is a rite of passage where I grew up. No one let me into boy scouts, I tried. No one would call me by my preferred nicknames. My Dad was disinterested in me because I wasn't a son. I bantered so well and got on so comfortably with the boys as a teenager, that I had entire friend groups pivot either because they were Immensely attracted to me and that felt ick, or because I fit in too well, and that's ick for a woman, ...when all I wanted was to hang out with the boys too. I never got "boys will be boys" when I rolled in the mud. I never got to explore boy-hobbies and get a manly job in a manly career. I never got to wrestle or have athletic hobbies. All these years of longing and I have nothing to show for it but a tomboyish haircut, a 3 in 1 stp, and a binder. I'm going to turn 30 soon. I've missed my childhood and my 20s in one fell swoop.
I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm not sure where "forward" is and would appreciate any and all advice.

2024.05.17 11:17 deadpunkwalking Need another perspective

I’ve (40M gray) recently connected with someone (35F), at least I think we have. We’re both Ace, but we have never talked about it. In fact I’m not sure if she even knows that I am, I don’t wear a ring while she does. (I know I should get one and this wouldn’t be an issue if I had one)
We work in the same building but not the same section so we had only met in passing a few times. It’s been about 4-5 months since we first met. Just over a month ago we ended up sitting together by ourselves and started talking about nothing really important, just random things, some hobbies, and other stuff we both like.
I didn’t really think too much of this first encounter but now we’re messaging each other throughout the day, everyday and spending our days off together, sometimes from when she wakes up until she is going to sleep. She even messages me in the middle of the night.
She is very tomboyish with a masculine haircut and style. Outside looking in, if we didn’t spend so much time together I would think she has no interest in men. I only bring this up because that’s where I’m struggling. I couldn’t care less about appearances but what if she has no romantic attraction to me. I think she is amazing and really enjoy spending time with her but I’m worried that bringing up the feelings I have for her or the idea of a relationship will change our dynamic or end our friendship as it is.
I’m happy with what we have and I’m probably over thinking everything. I’ve just never thought so fondly of someone.

2024.05.17 09:53 DMFan79 How gender stereotypes are being exploited by 'deminists' to cover female violence on men

In 2020, a paper titled "Unmasking Gender Differences in Narcissism within Intimate Partner Violence" (Green, A., MacLean, R., and Charles, K.) analyzed how the two types of narcissism ('grandiose' and 'vulnerable') manifest in female and male population.
As we all know, current narrative claims that men violence on women represents the vast majority of cases; the research tells us a different story though...
Quoting from the paper:
"Theoretical understanding of gender differences in narcissistic presentation is underdeveloped due to an overrepresentation of males in the narcissism literature"
"Results showed that females scored significantly higher on vulnerable narcissism than males, but no gender differences were found for grandiose narcissism"
"Vulnerable narcissism is overshadowed by the grandiose subtype, with over 75% of the empirical literature"
"Indeed, common depictions of narcissism (DSM/NPI) embody a personality construct closely resembling masculine stereotypes in society, including physical expressions of aggression, an authoritarian character, entitled exploitation, and an excessive need for power (Corry, Merritt, Mrug, & Pamp, 2008)"
"The research on narcissism and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) has, however, been dominated by the grandiose component as the main assessment of narcissism, which may not accurately capture narcissistic traits in females."
"Further adding to these limitations, other research fail to specify the gender of the perpetrator versus the victim (e.g., Carton & Egan, 2017; Peterson & Dehart, 2014). Given the widespread assumption that males are overrepresented as IPV perpetrators in general, and in narcissism research in particular (Gormley & Lopez, 2010), the failure to differentiate the gender of the perpetrator can have particularly problematic implications if these are to assume males are perpetrators and females are victims"
The paper contains more interesting data and I invite you to search for it on Google (there are several links to the complete PDF).
Violence takes many forms and despite what some 'deminists' want us to believe, it's pretty much evenly spread between the sexes.
But female violence is more subtle, it hides behind the lie that men are aggressors by nature. A lot of us have been exposed to female violence, we know what it means to endure something nobody wants to see or believe.
Physical violence on women has been going down for years now, pretty much everywhere in western countries; numbers cannot be denied and don't lie, 'deminists' agenda has run its course and, frankly, it's time to set the facts straight.
note: 'deminist' -> deranged feminist

2024.05.17 09:38 BlackIvoryPAAC Stuckism, Punk & Heckel's Horse - extract from interview with Other Muswell Hill Stuckist founder

Read the full interview at https://edgeworth.blog/2024/04/27/me-a-doll-interview/
PUG: Jompiy are quite a lot like Damien Hirst’s spin paintings.
EJ: I liked his figurative paintings that Tate didn’t include any of, in that solo show that had virtually everything else he’d ever done. I think Tate will be showing Heckel’s Horse before long.
PUG: What makes you think that?
EJ: It would be poetic. Darth Vadar comes to his senses and everyone’s rescue. There’ll probably be some new maverick Director that comes along and wants to make an easy name for herself.
PUG: How about a Heckel’s Horse Jr. show there instead? I liked the Heckel’s Horse Jr. book.
EJ: Thanks. They’re currently available to all our Fan Club members on Tiers 2 and 3. If someone was interested in finding out more, all they’d have to do is simply visit https://blackivory.org/fan-club/
PUG: Is there anything planned for Heckel’s Horse?
EJ: As far as I can tell, it’s on the back burner till whoever’s in charge decides the time’s right for a show. Billy’s been trying to push things along for years, pretty much since we started doing them.
PUG: You need this new Tate Director.
EJ: We need someone to forcibly step in with the interest, clout and balls to act irrespective of any commercial consequence or fretting what the art world and its clientele think. Like some benevolent Stuckist ex-hedge fund manager who says “Let’s do a show because of all that stuff in the Stuckism manifesto.”
PUG: Like a hostile takeover. Might Heckel’s Horse Jr. being published speed things along for Heckel’s Horse?
EJ: Apparantly the opposite. It might put them off, but whatever. It shouldn’t be all beholden to any audience thing. There needs to be a punk movement in Contemporary Art. Like Black Ivory but slightly more influential. None of this prissy “We’re not allowed to do this, we’re not allowed to do that. The clients might not like this, the clients might not like that.” I don’t know anything about how the art world functions but there’s an obvious staleness and near-universal obedience to it. Then you get things like Stuckism or our semi-Stuckist-splinter-group Black Ivory that, like opt out of the audience as target idea. That are happy to be a disgrace. I think they asked the bass player from the Manics what it was like walking around dressed up in their band gear, round their local working-class mining village in skirts and makeup, and he says “We just wanted to be hated.” I like that about Stuckism and the seemingly repellent and toe-curling bridge-burning stuff we do. The term “target audience” is business talk for a reason. Target audiences are for things like Persil Automatic, not artists. Artists worrying about this stuff is just depressing and I guess is all counter-productive to what they’re after anyway.
PUG: How would it be counter-productive?
EJ: Because it’s like some saggy-headed donkey that’s given up. Part of the shuffling crowd, which is shame if your art isn’t. Not believing in yourself. That’s how it all looks to me anyway. When I see photos of Stuckists prancing around in clown costumes outside Tate it’s so appealing. They’re building walls between themselves and the people everyone else is so desperate to be approved by.
PUG: So can Black Ivory save Contemporary Art?
EJ: We’ll stack a load of six footer Heckel’s Horse Jr. paintings against the walls. A few in the front room with the sofas, tables and chairs and whatnot. I’ll be walking round with a full teapot. Invite some friends round and do it as Stuckism would do it. Leave the evidence on our YouTube channel as Van Goghian proof for future generations that today’s Contemporary Art wasn’t just the text book stuff.
PUG: Stuckism was quite punk influenced but the art world’s still largely what it was beforehand.
EJ: Stuckism bothered. Like leading a horse to water. It’s like even the anti-establishment are only considered successful when the establishment accept them. The Other Muswell Hill Stuckists should do a manifesto about it. Stuckism‘s not for our benefit, it’s for yours. Our “failures” are your problem. We’re waking up and painting either way. We don’t need the art world. We don’t need the Turner Prize to show us what a decent painting looks like. I’m only talking about it not shaking up the artworld obviously, not the work or anything important, but like we’ve both done loads of Stuckist Turner Prize demos, published a Stuckist Turner Prize manifesto, as far as I know, the Turner Prize is still going strong. So what? Did the demos fail? Are our paintings worse now? If nothing else, it’s nice to get out the house. I like the Turner Prize demos because it’s like getting bashed on both sides. By the establishment and the hipsters. Usually it’s like, choose a team: brand A or brand B and kid yourself there’s a difference. The establishment think they’re winning and the hipsters think they’re cool and anti-establishment. Stuckism chooses neither, which I see as the only real anti-establishment. Stuckism‘s failures, if anything, proove its success becuase punk succeeded in it’s non-musical objectives, it became chart music. No chance of Stuckism falling for that one. How’s that for a theory? Failure isn’t failure. Failure’s success because failure’s longevity and success is failure. Stuckism‘s a roaring failure.
PUG: A new punk Tate for Heckel’s Horse.
EJ: I did some assistant work for Jimmy Cauty years ago, on these glittery riot shields. I think around 2016. The tracksuit bottoms still have the gold glitter and PVA stuck to them. I can’t remember if I was talking about Heckel’s Horse or something else, but Billy and I couldn’t have done too many by then. It might have been something else, but I tell Jimmy we’ve done all this work and nothing’s getting published, and he says ‘So, when’s the bonfire?’ The man who burned a million pounds. Ten years later, he we are, same situation. Thankfully, as far as I’m aware, still no bonfire. So overall, things are going great for Heckel’s Horse. All the paintings are still probably in existence.
PUG: Just a lot more of them now.
EJ: I’ve got this image of Heckel’s Horse paintings being taken at night to some secret billionaires island off the South Kent coast and chucked on a blazing fire with a load of men in white suits standing round drinking champagne, each with a cigar between their teeth going ‘Ha! Ha! Fuck you Edgeworth!’
PUG: Then there’d just be the Heckel’s Horse Jr.’s left and you could sell them for millions.
EJ: You’re a genius.
PUG: All those paintings will end up in a show at some point.
EJ: It’s been eleven years. Could be another twenty, thirty. I had this paranoia, they’d pretend they were by Billy and cut my name out. If Billy and I aren’t around. Even if I’m still around, who’s going to listen to me?
PUG: Do you reckon?
EJ: I don’t even know who it was, but some lying fart-face decided it would be alright to pretend these monoprints Billy and I collaborated on would be better sold off as ‘by Billy Childish’ and not by both of us. So that’s what happened. Like a click of the fingers, “Bye bye Edgeworth.” Pretty unimpressive, I thought.
PUG: Didn’t you say anything?
EJ: No, what’s going to happen? Better to say nothing then moan about it ten years later. The way I see it, I’m not the one lying so it’s not my problem. Do you know what I mean? It shouldn’t be on me to object if they’re doing it on purpose.
PUG: So it’s not like Damien Hirst and his assistant’s painting butterflies.
EJ: No. It’s sort of, not wanting to flatter the people that erased my attribution with the idea they’re worth bothering with. Because it’s not like I was upset or felt hard done by. It was just disillusionment in one thing, addressed by the creation of another, Black Ivory Printmaking & Audio Club. If anything it’s a net positve. “So that’s the kind of people you really are. What a fantastic opportunity!”
Damien Hirst’s different. It’s all declared and everyone knows the deal. There’s nothing dodgy about it. It’s not like some slippery gallerist-type shifts the goalposts after the works done, like they’ve got some licence to change the truth. The buyers know what they’re buying, the artists know what they’re doing. These monoprints were a thick painterly transfer technique I came up with and haven’t seen anywhere else. Until I see any that look similar, as far as I’m concerned, it’s a type of monoprint of my invention. And they think they can just sign that away from me. If people see mine now, the ones I did independently using the same technique, they’ll probably think I copied it from Billy, which I think’s quite a liberty. “Taking Berty’s.” as we said at school.
PUG: Didn’t they ask you about it first?
EJ: No, I just get emailed after with some apparent excuse. If you’re some no-name pushover like me, I guess they think it’s alright. It might all have been a lot more innocent than it looked from my end, but if they’re like this with some few hundred quid monoprints, what’s it going to be like with all these crates of 6ft paintings that are worth a fortune? Not exactly reassuring to think of Heckel’s Horse in these people’s hands.
PUG: Welcome to the art world.
EJ: It might end up for the best. A lot of why I started doing Heckel’s Horse Jr. was to get the Heckel’s Horse story out the door. A lots been done already. Billy and I want to get Heckel’s Horse paintings in front of people. Billy‘s spoken about it in interviews that I’ve super-glue-referenced into the Billy Childish wikipedia page. L-13 have done a load of prints. Things are going pretty well. The less behind-the-scenes Heckel’s Horse is, the harder I guess it is for the truth to get fudged later. Especially if Billy and I aren’t around by the time anything happens.
PUG: You’ve always got Jompiy.
EJ: Yeah, my solid backup plan. I don’t need to worry about Jompiy getting nicked.

2024.05.17 08:08 throwRa_altacc Dating apps.

Every time I see dating apps mentioned here or on Dr. K’s channel, I always see incredibly negative things about them, and I understand why that is. When I was active on dating apps, it had an incredibly negative impact on my self-confidence. I got very few matches, and it really felt like that meant I was unlovable or ugly. I'm also aware of the fact that dating apps are like 75% men and 25% women (depending on the app ofc), so it's a lot harder for men to find matches.
However, I also feel like they have the potential to be a good tool for dating. Dating apps serve as a way to cut straight to the chase. You don't have to worry about the friend zone thing (I mean, it's possible but a lot less likely since it is a DATING app). It makes introductions a lot easier and enables the ability to meet people without having to spend tons of money trying to find social activities to gamble on meeting people who may or may not be single or interested in you, assuming you find someone you are interested in, etc.
I had 5 matches when I had my profile in that smallish town of 40k people or so. Of those 5, I had conversations with 3. Of the 3, I had good conversations with 1, who I went on a date with and never talked to again. The date went decently. The main reason we didn’t talk again was that I realized I was still in love with someone else, and she was very reminiscent of the girl I was on the date with. They had names with one letter apart, the same haircuts, were around the same height, had similar interests, the same music taste, etc., and it just felt wrong so i didnt follow up and she unmatched me. Other than that, though, it went fine and it broke me out of my shell and got me on a date, which was a first for me. I think that has merit.
I really want to try dating apps again despite having had bad experiences with them in the past because I'm so lonely, and the methods I have right now for meeting people aren’t really working.
The issue is, I don’t really have the confidence to do it this time. I’m kind of surprised I was able to before when I was 18 because now, as a 20-year-old who is significantly more confident than I was then, I don’t have the courage to publish my profile. I’m decently proud of it this time; I find most of my stuff informative about me or funny and have good photos of me that are with or taken by other people which i didnt before.
I also live in a place with 15 times the population of where I lived before, so I feel like I’d have a decent chance of actually meeting someone, and that’s what I want right now. But there’s so much negativity around the apps (for mostly good reasons) that I’m hesitant to post my profile. I also have a lot of irrational fears around it. What if someone I knew gets my profile recommended to them and makes fun of me for it or judges me for it? What if I don’t get any matches this time around and my confidence gets completely destroyed? What if I go on a date and I don’t look enough like my photos?
It’s much easier just to sit at home and not do anything and just hope that next quarter of college I meet the perfect person, or that I meet someone at the bus stop or a friend of a friend, etc.
Anyways, I’m really conflicted on this and don’t really know what to do.
What are your thoughts on dating apps?

2024.05.17 07:17 theconstellinguist People Are Less Likely to Help Those They Envy, and When They Can't Get Away With Not Helping, They Make Them as Dependent As Possible as a Way to Level them and Relieve Feelings of Inferiority

Envy and Help Giving, Part 1
https://psycnet.apa.org/fulltext/2020-62974-001.pdf
One of envy’s instantiations is to increase, not decrease, dependence to keep someone down as a manifestation of malicious envy. They are actively disabled and kept dependent on purpose if their independence is especially aggravating to the envier’s self-esteem.
In this research, we explored and demonstrated a relatively implicit and covert means of undermining envied targets—namely, helping them in a way that retains their future dependence, rather than in a way that increases their autonomy.
Unfavorable social comparisons trigger envy in those who make the person about themselves (social comparison) instead of admire (just seeing them, for the period of admiration).
In the current research, we focused on unfavorable, upward social comparisons, which are comparisons individuals make with others whom they perceive as superior to themselves. These upward social comparisons often trigger envy. Envy is among the most powerful emotional forces of human nature.
Envy is based in lack circuitry, namely not having something. This is slightly different than fear of loss circuitry, so it is less about pathways of addiction which implies possession of the addicting substance and another about unmet desire.
In addition to being conceptualized as a dispositional trait, envy also is defined as a situationally driven emotion—namely, as a state that occurs “when a person lacks another’s superior quality, achievement, or possession, and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it” (Parrott & Smith, 1993, p. 906)
Malicious envy entails hostile feelings, thoughts and actions aimed at harming the envied other
According to the first account, malicious and benign envy vary not only in consequences but also in feelings and thoughts, with malicious envy entailing hostile feelings, thoughts, and action tendencies aimed at harming the envied other and benign envy entailing feelings, thoughts, and action tendencies aimed at improving the outcome of the envious person (van de Ven, Zeelenberg, & Pieters, 2009)
Painful feeling of envy instigates malicious motivations
We primarily focused on help-giving behaviors, and we examined and demonstrated the notion that to the extent that the painful feeling of envy toward an upward social comparison target instigates malicious motivations, it impedes helping behaviors and particularly affects the type of help that is provided to the envied target.
Envious people belittle, deceive, victimize, sabotage and undermine those they envy. All around, it shows dehumanization of the envied.
For example, envious people have been found to belittle those they envy (Salovey & Rodin, 1984; Vecchio, 1995); experience schadenfreude, that is, take pleasure in their suffering (Lange et al., 2018; R. H. Smith et al., 1996; van de Ven et al., 2015); deceive them; victimize them; sabotage their outcomes; and socially undermine them (Duffy, Ganster, & Pagon, 2002; Duffy et al., 2012; Gino & Pierce, 2009; Jensen, Patel, & Raver, 2014; E. Kim & Glomb, 2014; Moran & Schweitzer, 2008; Salovey & Rodin, 1984; Silver & Sabini, 1978; R. H. Smith & Kim, 2007; Vecchio, 1995).
Increasing future dependence is seen as a way of covertly undermining envied target from engaging in behaviors that aggravate envy.
We add to this literature by exploring and demonstrating a relatively implicit and covert means of undermining maliciously envied targets— namely, helping them in a way that retains their future dependence, rather than in a way that increases their autonomy.
When family or friends do not feel that their envy is acceptable, they will engage in covert rather than overt actions that they think will not allow them to go detected as participating in behind the scenes antisocial behavior against the envied
Consequently, we postulated that following upward envy-evoking social comparisons, people who encounter malicious motivations may opt to vent these motivations by using subtle and implicit means to undermine their envied targets (Jensen et al., 2014), especially in contexts in which individuals are generally expected to help and cooperate with each other (e.g., among friends, family, colleagues in the workplace, or members of the same team). In the present research, we used the context of teams to explore such potential subtle undermining and malicious consequences of envy.
Envy is strongly associated with a threat to one’s self-esteem (Tesser, 1988) and is predominantly evoked when the comparison target is otherwise similar and when the comparison domain is self-relevant (Feather, 1989, 1991; Parrott & Smith, 1993; Salovey & Rodin, 1984; R. H. Smith, 1991; Tesser & Collins, 1988; Vecchio, 1995, 2000)
In teams that are expected to work together, teammates in envy of other team members will maximize covert means of undermining
Moreover, given that teammates are typically expected to cooperate and coordinate with each other (Holland, Gaston, & Gomes, 2000), we postulated that when working in teams, envious people may be particularly prone to vent their malicious motivations by using covert means to undermine their envied peers
The fear of being envied leads to people increasing a prosocial interaction style. This can look like “And we couldn’t have done it without you” in donations style language or the trick some have been told of when someone is jealous ask them to help you to get them accustomed to feeling on your side. Seeking dependency implies incompetence to the envier, which lessens their feelings of inferiority. This study discounted gender, but interestingly this behavior is exactly what women are told to do when men are being aggressive towards them, implying that what the men may be feeling may indeed be envy for these women
First, the fear of being envied often increases envied targets’ attempts to ward off the potentially destructive effects of malicious envy—for example, by increased engagement in prosocial behaviors (van de Ven, Zeelenberg, & Pieters, 2010). To that end, envied targets may opt to request help from an envious peer as a means to flatter and praise them. Additionally, by seeking help, the envied target admits to at least some degree of dependency and incompetence, which in turn may lessen the threat they induce. Indeed, recent research found that revealing failures encountered on the path to success may be an effective means to reduce malicious envy (Brooks et al., 2019).
Less friendly and less generosity is a sign of increasing envy
Indeed, the fact that Rodriguez Mosquera et al. (2010) found that one of the key markers of being envied is the envied targets realizing that the envious individuals are becoming less friendly and generous toward them implies that encounters in which the envied target needs yet doesn’t receive sufficient support or assistance from envious others do in fact occur.
By opting to provide their peers with dependent rather than autonomous help, individuals can overtly conform (at least partially) to norms of cooperation and helping yet, at the same time, subtly maintain the help seekers’ incapability and dependency
In our work, we studied effects of malicious motivations toward envied outperforming others on help giving. We predominantly explored the type of help provided, distinguishing between two types of help: dependent help, which consists of providing the solution to the immediate problem only and thus reinforces recipients’ future reliance on others’ assistance, and autonomous help, where the helper also provides tools that develop the recipients’ capacities and enables them to later solve problems independently (Bamberger & Levi, 2009; Nadler, Harpaz-Gorodeisky, & BenDavid, 2009). By opting to provide their peers with dependent rather than autonomous help, individuals can overtly conform (at least partially) to norms of cooperation and helping yet, at the same time, subtly maintain the help seekers’ incapability and dependency
Envious people can be confused as non-envious people when understood in this way. One simply has to look if those they help become more or less dependent to see if they are envious or non-envious
. In organizational contexts, it also can serve as a source of power because of the reciprocal obligation incurred by the help recipient (Flynn, 2003b; Thibaut & Kelley, 1959), make people look cooperative, and enhance their perceived expertise and consequent performance evaluations, thereby boosting their self-esteem (Flynn, 2003a, 2006; Grant & Mayer, 2009; Hui, Lam, & Law, 2000; Warburton & Terry, 2000). On the one hand, envious people’s self-esteem threat (Tesser, 1988) may lead them to be excessively motivated to help others in order to gain the above-mentioned benefits. On the other hand, when contemplating whether to help an envied outperformer who triggers malicious motivations, additional factors may come into play and outdo these potential benefits. As noted above, these malicious motivations consist of the desire to level the gap by pulling down the envied target—that is, to belittle and otherwise harm them. Relatedly, numerous studies document a link between malicious motivations toward envied targets and schadenfreude, that is, taking pleasure in the maliciously envied target’s suffering (e.g., Cikara & Fiske, 2012; Hareli & Weiner, 2002; Krizan & Johar, 2012; Lange et al., 2018; Leach & Spears, 2008; R. H.
People are less willing to help a superior envied peer than a neutral peer. People show clearly marked lower willingness to help a superior peer.Hypothesis 1a: People will be less willing to help superior envied peers compared to neutral peers. Hypothesis 1b: The link between the type of peer (superior or neutral) and helping will be driven by feelings of envy and the consequent malicious motivations toward the peer. Specifically, increased feelings of envy toward a superior peer compared to a neutral peer will lead to relatively greater malicious motivations toward the superior peer, which in turn will lead to relatively lower willingness to help the superior peer.
Autonomous help is better for the receivers and more expensive for the givers, showing that those who provide true independence for others have stronger altruism drives.
When deciding whether to provide help, people also may contemplate about the type of help they provide: autonomous help or dependent help (Bamberger & Levi, 2009; Nadler et al., 2009). Autonomous help encourages recipients’ independence by providing tools that enable them to solve problems independently, while dependent help, which solely provides the solution to the specific problem, increases recipients’ dependency and need for future reliance on others’ assistance. Although autonomous help is often more beneficial for recipients (Geller & Bamberger, 2012), it obviously entails higher costs for its providers (e.g., investing more time and effort). From the helper’s perspective, recent work by Nadler and Chernyak-Hai (2014) found guiders were more likely to provide autonomous help to high- (vs. low-) status help seekers whom they viewed as more motivated and as sufficiently competent to make use of such help. We, however, offer that this may not be the case when the help seeker is a maliciously envied peer.
Moreover, given that envy-driven malicious motivations are typically socially unacceptable, and thus often not explicitly voiced (R. H. Smith, 1991; Vecchio, 2000), these hostile motivations are most likely to be manifested in covert, rather than overt, behaviors.
Extending this notion, we proposed that to the extent that the superior envied peer instigates malicious motivations, envious individuals are likely to prefer providing the superior peer with dependent rather than autonomous help. For maliciously motivated envious individuals, creating a situation in which the envied peer is dependent on them entails benefits associated with preserving a particular advantage, thereby restricting the disadvantageous gap and increasing their impaired self-esteem, sense of competence, and schadenfreude (enjoyment of others’ dependency and inability). Moreover, given that envy-driven malicious motivations are typically socially unacceptable, and thus often not explicitly voiced (R. H. Smith, 1991; Vecchio, 2000), these hostile motivations are most likely to be manifested in covert, rather than overt, behaviors.
When possible people will not help a superior other. But when it makes them look like they’re not team players, they will opt to make the person as dependent as possible to increase control to lower feelings of envy. They do not show that they care about the lowered opportunities this creates for other people that might have needed that person’s success. All they care about is relief from their envy.
Correspondingly, we expected the malicious motivations to be more observable in implicit behaviors, such as the type of help provided, than in the explicit decision of whether or not to help.
By keeping those they envy dependent, the envier is able to highlight their inability and dependence to attempt to get relief from aggressive feelings of hate and envy.
By opting to provide their envied peers with dependent rather than autonomous help, individuals can overtly be cooperative and help while at the same time subtly maintaining the envied help seekers’ inability and dependence.
Hypotheses
Hypothesis 2a: People will be less willing to provide autonomous help to superior envied peers compared to neutral peers. Hypothesis 2b: The link between the type of peer (superior or neutral) and type of help (autonomous vs. dependent) will be driven by feelings of envy and the consequent malicious motivations toward the peer. Specifically, increased feelings of envy toward a superior peer compared to a neutral peer will lead to relatively greater malicious motivations toward the superior peer, which in turn will lead to relatively lower willingness to provide the superior peer with autonomous help.
People who are prone to envy persist unnecessarily in comparing their own state with that of others
People who are prone to envy persist unnecessarily in comparing their own state with that of others (R. H. Smith et al., 1999). Recently, Lange and Crusius (2015) suggested that people also differ in their propensity to experience the different types of envy, that is, in their dispositional benign and malicious envy propensities.
Hypothesis 3: People with more envy will want to provide less help, particularly when the help-seeking peer is someone they perceive outperforms them.
Hypothesis 3: Individual’s dispositional malicious envy will be negatively related to their willingness to provide help, especially autonomous help to their peers, particularly when the help-seeking peer is an outperformer.
Doing things for someone without showing them how it’s done is a way to keep people dependent and resolve painful feelings of envy
, and three items measured their willingness to provide dependent help ( .92; e.g., “When helping Terry with a work-related problem, that I am more knowledgeable about than him, I would solve it for him, without showing him how I solved it”).4
People were much more willing to help someone they didn’t envy than someone they did.
In these analyses, we controlled for benign motivations in order to account for the possibility that participants may have been more willing to help the nonenvied (vs. envied) peer due to increased benign motivations,7 rather than increased malicious motivations toward the latter.8

2024.05.17 04:01 Bear19123 Video in a Man’s Profile?

1) Does it increase likelihood a woman for "Long-term/Marriage" will swipe right? 2) What percentage of men post a video? Women? 3) It's a 15 second clip of my Pilates workout will music playing in the background. Should it be the primary or an other position in the profile? 4) Music is the chart-smashing song "Magic Man" by Heart. Female rockers during the 1970's are bad/ass! Is taste in this genre specific to ages 40 plus? Limiting?
Thank you kindly.
ps. Prefer women in public, but I'll take out a woman who swipes right. Definitely.

(Sometimes when writing one of these I'll go check and see how those who covered the case themselves did so and to see if they have any extra sources of their own. It appears that outside of the news media, this case has not been covered by anyone prior to me.
This means this is another one researched entirely by me, involving going through as many newspaper article as possible. However this appears to be a huge case in Georgia so if anyone speaks Georgian or is Georgian, feel free to correct me on any mistakes made
One thing I'm already a little on the fence about is that this may come off as too pro-convicted in the event that the correct verdict was reached, especially with how heinous the crimes are. But in my research I couldn't actually find in detail the prosecutor's rebuttals to the defence's claims and I just write whatever I can find personally. Some details also may still be lost in translation)
Little information seems to be known on the very early years of Ryan Michael Smith other than the fact that he was born in 1975 in San Diego, California. At 7 years old his family both moved to Marneuli, Georgia for a brief period which Ryan always remembered. Later Ryan moved to Azerbaijan in 2002. In Azerbaijan, Ryan soon learnt Azerbaijani and developed an interest in traditional carpets and rugs. He spent his time in the Caucasus, living with the native Lezghi people and using what he learnt from them, attempted to set up a local rug business but the business never took off and in December 2005 he returned to The United States. While in America he met Lora Joy Tacquard born in 1976, a school teacher. The two would eventually marry.
In 2010 the couple moved back to Marneuli and lived with Georgia's Azerbaijani community. Lora began working as an English teacher while Ryan tracked down elderly residents who knew how to weave, sow and make old-style carpets and rugs which were slowly falling out of fashion so he himself could learn how to make them, try starting up a business again and revive them. In 2012, Ryan finally found enough professionals to formally hire and founded his company "reWoven". That same year, he and Lori obtained Georgian citizenship becoming dual nationals.
In the early years of reWoven's operations, most of the money made went back into the local community, to pay for the resident's medical bills, legal fees and infrastructure. They also used the profits to fund weddings, funerals, and local civic events, even spending 10,000 dollars to buy 400 sets of plates, glasses and cutlery for the local community center and to fund the construction of a children's playground. Most of Ryan's own money that he used to support himself came from donations from both Georgia and from relatives in the United States.
They always wanted to have a child and first attempted so in 2012 with Lora giving birth to a baby girl named Shannon. Tragically Shannon was born unhealthy and passed away after only 9 days. Lora would then suffer three consecutive miscarriages until the couple's healthy son, Caleb Ismat Smith was born in 2014. Caleb was raised bilingually and by the age of 4, he was able to understand both English and Azerbaijani. In 2016, the family built themselves a house in Marneuli and decided that they would live in Georgia permanently and planned on becoming only Georgian citizens.
Ryan, Lora and Caleb
On July 3, 2018, the family decided to take a little vacation and went hiking at the Khadi Valley in Dusheti, Georgia. They spent the night in the valley, on the meadow, near a local village and on July 4, they began exploring the valley, river and waterfall, taking pictures of everything. On July 6, they were reported missing by friends and relatives after Ryan failed to show up to a meeting in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi.
The police and Georgia's Emergency Management Agency organized a search and rescue operation to find the family. That same day, on July 6, they found their car and personal belongings near the village of Tskere. 3 kilometres away from the car, Lora's naked body was found at the foot of a waterfall. Initial examinations conducted apparently showed no signs of intinial violence although she did sustain many bruises, cuts and scratches but they could've been the result of a fall. The only item of note was a wristwatch. so the police were now continuing the search efforts under the assumption that the family had all suffered an accident. The search was then called off due to the rain and resumed on July 7. On that day, Ryan's body was found floating in a river bearing many injuries and one source said he was "mutilated". Found near his body were a camera case, a child's toy shovel, and a plastic chisel Police assumed these injuries were caused post-mortem by being dragged along by the river current, but an autopsy revealed that the injuries, specifically blunt force trauma to his abdomen, legs, shins, chest and armpits were man-made and that the cause of death was a gunshot wound.
Now that it was a murder investigation, the police amped up the search for 4-year-old Caleb, the only member of the family still missing. The police even closed off the area to all other tourists, the only people allowed were the search and rescue team aided by local guides and shepherds and even using a drone once. According to the police they had gone through 99% of the valley and searched an area of 11 kilometers but Caleb was still nowhere to be found.

The search operation
Still lacking any trace of Caleb, the police shifted focus to trying to find a suspect. The police learned that the two had a local shepherd to guide them. The shepherd was a 19-year-old named Malkhaz Kobauri. Malkhaz had taken part in the search efforts and was joined by other shepherds. In fact, Malkhaz was the one who just so happened to find Lora's body. These fellow shepherds were questioned and they told police that slightly before they went missing, he returned to a campsite the shepherds had set up and was missing his watch and had a scratch on his chin. Malkhaz said that he lost his watch and was very reluctant and nervous when asked about his scratch. The police showed the watch to all those present who identified it as Malkhaz's.
Malkhaz was arrested on July 8 and repeatably interrogated. According to him, He and Ryan had gotten into an argument over Malkhaz being negligent with a hunting rifle and in the course of the argument, Ryan would be proven correct when he pointed it toward him and accidentally shot him. Afterwards, wanting to cover up the crime he shot Caleb and then Lora ran away and accidently fell from the cliff. To cover up and hide his crime he buried Caleb's body near a waterfall. He led police to the burial site and when the police dug up Caleb's body, they also recovered a camera used by the family during their trip. An autopsy revealed that Caleb had also been shot to death at least 3-4 times from different trajectories.
Going through the pictures, the police found 3-4 pictures of Malkhaz leading the family through the valley. In one of the pictures, he was seen holding the rifle used to shoot Ryan and Caleb with his pockets bulging from the rifle cartridges. On that same rifle both his and the victim's DNA were found. The last pictures were taken at the aforementioned waterfall and in all of them, Malkhaz was wearing the wristwatch found near Lora's body.
Malkhaz after his arrest
Now who was Malkhaz Kobauri? Malkhaz was born sometime in late 1998 in the village of Sadziguri located in a region called Akhalgori. They were moderately successful, selling various goods such as chickens and crops. In 2008 this would all be taken away when the Russo-Georgian War broke out and Akhalgori fell under the control of the largely unrecognized and self-proclaimed country of South Ossetia. Malkhaz's family fled before the annexation.
After fleeing they arrived in the capital Tbilisi as refugees with the Georgian government eventually providing Malkhaz, his parents and 5 siblings temporary housing at a cottage in Tsilkani with some farmland. They engaged in backbreaking labour in the farmlands for hours upon hours with little to no profit, and then a new factory opened up in the area which harmed their financial situation even further, then Malkhaz's mother was struck by illness and became bedridden for over a year. Eventually, Malkhaz had to drop out of school and went out to work as a shepherd to help his family.
Soon after his arrest, Malkhaz retracted his confession. He now claimed to only be a witness and that two foreigners emerged from a black vehicle and that he went into hiding while he watched the two kill Ryan, Lora and Caleb and then watched them dispose of the bodies. Malkhaz would now never deviate from this story and his family and his lawyer believed him to be truthful and that the police forced him to confess and were making a scapegoat out of them. His mother went so far as to pledge that she'd find the real killer all by herself, in her own words "even if they are buried in the ground"
Upon his arrest, Malkhaz was made to undergo a psychiatric evaluation where he was found to be sane and thus charged with the murder of the family on July 10 where in court, he continued with his story that two unknown foreigners were responsible and that they threatened to kill him and his family if he came forward. He described them as two meters tall and dark-skinned, and that the Georgian they spoke was accented, he believed them to be North Caucasians. He was unable to describe their vehicle aside from its colour because he was too far away from it. According to his lawyer, there were even witnesses who saw this car and could vindicate Malkhaz but that the police purposefully refused to question them. They even had plans to have a digital recreation of those men's faces created. On July 11th, he was remanded to custody and held in pretrial detention as due to his hometown now being in South Ossetia, it was believed that he may flee and that an extradition would be immensely unlikely.
Malkhaz at his pre-trial hearings
Unfornatuely for Malkhaz, his claim of innocence, already seemingly unlikely was looking more and more implausible. A forensic autopsy conducted on Lora's body showed samples of Malkhaz's DNA and biological profile on her body. After this revelation his lawyer withdrew from the case and he was assigned a new attorney. His new lawyer tried to claim that it didn't necessarily mean she was raped and Malkhaz demanded he be examined immediately, claiming to be impotent, the prosecution was still already looking into further charges. Malkhaz also changed his story and claimed that he was swimming when seven attackers as opposed to two emerged, stole his gun and ordered him out of the water while he looked away. The only reason his life was spared is because one of the men convinced the others not to kill Malkhaz This story only made him look more guilty as if it were true, there would be no way for him to know where Caleb's body had been buried. But regardless, Malkhaz remained confident and asked the court and investigators to investigate his cellphone records and where his phone pinged as it would exonerate him. His lawyer also remained confident and firmly believed in his client's innocence even stating that he would be willing to fly to The United States and question the victim's relatives himself.
He also said that the autopsy and forensic reports contradicted the prosecution's version of events. According to them, after an argument, he shot Ryan once and to silence Caleb's cries he also shot him before attacking Lora, raping her before ending her life. But the autopsies found no traces of violence on Lora's body to prompt a reconsideration of the theory that she simply fell, in fact, the cause of death was still listed as drowning and Caleb as mentioned seemed to have been shot from mutable different trajectories as opposed to a single bullet. Lastly, they doubted the report which stated that Malkhaz's sperm was found on Lora's body and underwear as when she was found, Lora was in the water and had been dead for 2-3 days. He went so far as to accuse the report of being fabricated. The autopsy conducted on Ryan also determined that the bullet that had killed him was fired from an above trajectory which according to his lawyer, meant that it was impossible for Malkhaz to have been the gunman as he was shorter than Ryan. According to Malkhaz, Ryan had tried wrestling the gun away from his killer's hands with the fight resulting in wounds to his legs and stomach before he finally shot Ryan at close range, killing him. Malkhaz's lawyer also felt it unlikely that he caused Ryan's pre-mortem injuries due to his build and body type.
On November 9th, only a week before his trial on November 19, 2018, the prosecution added on an extra charge with Malkhaz now set to stand trial not just for murder, but also for the rape of Lora Smith and changed their story claiming that the motive for the murder was the rape and that his altercation with Ryan was over him sexually harassing Lora and not gun safety. They also now stated that they believed Lora was killed elsewhere, and carried over to a river where she was disposed of and flowed down until falling off the cliff. Malkhaz's lawyer was furious and also believed this impossible. According to him, they actually conducted a test after this theory where they tried carrying on their backs (which is what the prosecution alleged that Malkhaz did) the equivalent of Lora's weight through the valley's terrain and actively struggled to walk it over to where Malkhaz supposedly disposed of her body. And even if he could, the current was calm and it wasn't raining so they doubted that her body could've floated to where it was found. The prosecution refuted this, stating that the report on the injuries Lora had sustained was amended to be the result of violence, the claims that Malkhaz was impotent to them held no weight, and leading up to the murders, Malkhaz had frequently browsed pornographic websites.
Because the defence demanded a jury trial not long before the trial itself was due to begin, the proceedings were delayed as the jury selection began. The Trial proper began on March 5, 2019, at the Gori District Court. The defence repeated their claims that Malkhaz was being scapegoated as 95% of the prosecution's own evidence was supposedly not presented and out of the 126 witnesses only 20 were called, the defence believed that the remaining 100 would either contradict their version of events or even outright exonerate him. On March 25, 2019, after 4 hours of deliberation, the jury returned their unanimous verdict finding Malkhaz guilty. On March 27, Malkhaz Kobauri was handed down a life sentence without the possibility of parole. After hearing the sentence, His mother and aunt both fainted and had to be hospitalized. Meanwhile, the victim's family and American Representatives were satisfied with the sentence. Upon recovery, they refused to accept the verdict and his mother even accused The United States of influencing the trial in some way.

Malkhaz at cournt
Malkhaz's mother removed from court on a stretcher.
In October 2019, Ryan's family wrote a letter to Malkhaz while he was in prison where they chose to forgive him. Malkhaz was appreciative but continued to stand by his innocence and said that the only thing "keeping me going" was that his family still continued to fight in an attempt to exonerate him. His lawyer also announced his intention to appeal and his family even tried to have The European Court of Human Rights hear the case but were unable to due to the finances involved. In November 2022, he sent a letter back saying much the same, that he was innocent.
MreWoven remains in business to this day and continues in Ryan, Lora and Caleb's memory.

I feel like I am full to the brim with love to share but my recent relationships have been chaotic with air sign men. Can my chart indicate where I should concentrate my energy?
What is drawing me to men with air signs for relationships that end badly?
I have been told that my Sagittarius northern Node in the fourth house (my lifes purpose apparently??) indicates that I will flourish when it comes to family expansion. I just had a pregnancy scare so it has got me thinking all sorts about this topic and the future.
I had a very good relationship with a Virgo man for around 8 years but we broke up as I had some growing to do and it was the right choice. However, since then I have had two quite tumultuous longer term relationships with Libra men, and the last guy I was with (whom with I had the pregnancy scare) was a Gemini. I still feel very drawn to him although he is quite flakey and inconsiderate. On the other hand when I meet people with more stable, less aggressive energies, I don't know how to handle it and I am the one to mess things up.
Can anyone shed light on what direction I'm headed here? I'm at a stage in my life where I'm not sure if I will ever have the typical family life or if I will go a different direction. My northern node has me thinking!!

2024.05.17 00:53 LittlePhylacteries Admissions statistics for major universities in Utah — 2002–2022

As a follow-up to my recent post about BYU admissions I've put together a comparison of the admissions statistics for the 4 major universities in Utah that have a limited admissions policy:
Once again, the data comes from the U.S. Department of Education's IPEDS website [source].
First let's look at the following:
Admissions statistics by school — 2002–2022
Three things stand out to me:
  1. The state schools have very similar-shaped plots
  2. Admissions tracks with applications for the state schools
  3. Enrollment tracks with admissions for BYU
The next chart compares the rate of acceptance and enrollment (often called yield).
Acceptance and enrollment rate — 2002–2022
This further highlights the similarities between admissions trends for the three state schools and the difference between them and BYU.

2024.05.17 00:42 Impossible-Milk-4305 Instrumental DJ dancing song with Indian female choir

Hello everyone,
I was looking for to find the name of one song which should be composed before 2010 ( may be 2009, or 2008). Here some details I remember about the song and its video.
1) It was composed by two western (probably from the US) men, one of them was a DJ. Both appear in the song video.
2) The video features a teen boy (younger than 15) and an Indian lady in a black dress, who were dancing around a classic car covered with Swarovski crystals. The car looks like Volkswagen Beetle. Near the end of the video, the car changes its color from silver to gold.
3)The song is instrumental but includes an female Indian choir in the background.
