2024.05.17 11:00 AutoModerator Weekly Newcomer Questions, Support, Vents & Victories

As the community continues to grow and attract people who are just figuring this all out, we've decided to change the weekly thread focus to be more open and encourage newcomer questions and support. Please use this thread if you are seeking support or have newcomer questions. Want to see if your post topic has been discussed here? Type "subreddit:cptsd" after a search term in the search bar (ex. "friendships subreddit:cptsd"). Here are some common newcomer questions:
If you are new to CPTSD: Please check out the rules below, and for our mobile users who can't access the sidebar, more resources are located below the rules. These can also be accessed from the auto mod message that greets any post.
Keep the rules in mind when you post & comment:
  1. This is a peer support community. Be a supportive peer.
  2. Don’t ask for diagnosis, don’t diagnose others: Respect that you may not have all of OPs details and even a trained, trauma informed care provider cannot diagnose over the internet. So don't. Assume the context of OP as a CPTSD survivor or supportive partner of a CPTSD survivor.
  3. No hate speech
  4. Please be mindful about triggering content. Avoid graphic thread titles, and use [Trigger Warning], NSFW and/or the spoiler tag whenever appropriate.
  5. No RaisedByNarcissists lingo: A lot of folks come from the RBN support community. A lot of us do not. To keep the sub inclusive to CPTSD newcomers and survivors of different backgrounds, use common language synonyms for RBN acronyms. There are some exceptions.
  6. All content must be CPTSD related: Our lives, our struggles, and our victories with CPTSD.
  7. No Self-Promotion: Don't sell stuff or recruit for studies and projects without explicit mod approval. This thread is an exception; in the Vents & Victories thread, you may self-promote blogs, videos, and other media you created.
BIPOC
We recognize that healing communities such as CPTSD are not exempt from the insidious impacts of racism, whether overt or covert (for example, invalidating, minimizing, or microaggressive comments made by those with good intentions). In these cases, we encourage users to report the comments as Rule #3 violations. Because of the subreddit's high profile and open nature, this problem will continue to be with us, and we therefore can only promise a "safe-ish" environment for BIPOC. Racial trauma will always be on topic here at /CPTSD, but BIPOC users that want a more closed space can make use of /cptsd_bipoc. Thank you to the mod team at /cptsd_bipoc for helping us write this verbiage.

2024.05.17 10:41 Erwinblackthorn How to Make a Final Fantasy Plot

Final Fantasy is one of the biggest(if not the biggest) RPG franchises out there. As an anthology series, the games each hold a different world, every single numbered installment, as well as a different story. The patterns that connect the stories are there in order to keep a Final Fantasy game a Final Fantasy game. They’ve been able to make these games feel consistent in their approach for about 10 installments, with the titles after 10 being more on the subversion side. Now that Final Fantasy 7 is getting a remake “trilogy”, this subversion has become a complete deconstruction of what made the series well loved. The new people in charge of the IP seemed to have lost the magic, resulting in the series becoming a hollow husk of its former self.
With so many RPG Maker people wanting to recapture the magic, as well as Square Enix itself, this brings up the question: what exactly is a Final Fantasy plot?
In the 80s, Final Fantasy was conceived as a response to TTRPG games like Dungeon and Dragons and computer RPG games like Wizardry, with Dragon’s Quest being an influence and sharing the same influences itself. These fantasy game influences created a lot of the gameplay, with the story coming from what came prior in the form of Tolkienesque stories. To further the chain of influence, these Tolkienesque stories were inspired by Arthurian romance and mythology, holding a big focus on how alchemy approached the combination of mythologies to express a monomyth. Carl Jung helped popularize the monomyth, along with Joseph Campbell, which would later establish the media usage of the hero’s journey. When Lord of the Rings came out, the prevention of the world ending by the usage of a MacGuffin became a staple in heroic fantasy storytelling.
Final Fantasy began with nameless characters of unknown origins, having you play as the 4 warriors of light. 4 warriors were picked to represent the 4 elements, the 4 corners of the world, with 4 monsters of the elements acting as their main form of opposition as they head to the final boss. Fire, water, air, and earth were treated as vulnerable crystals that must be restored, bringing order back to a chaotic world, with the final boss being Chaos itself, to end the game with a peaceful kingdom. Rather than a single ring to rule them all, the MacGuffins in FF1 are instead key items, each one unlocking a new location to move the story forward. The world map is entirely used, from land to sea to air, forcing a journey process across different areas as these heroes attempt to fix the world.
The gameplay focuses on classes, with each class serving a different party purpose, forcing the player to pick different types for easier results. Each class was given a different outfit, easy to tell the difference between their roles, with each one symbolically having a different personality. It’s not that they had a personality in the game where they never speak, but rather the roles they hold grant them different paths on how they got there. For example, the fighter would have to become physically stronger and knighted to become a knight, while the thief would have to sneak around and learn black magic to become a ninja. In fact, having more thieves in your team was a way to make the game harder, because of their lower HP.
This combination of classes and a quest to save the world changed upon the second installment, where characters were finally given names and backstories. Due to this held history, their hometown was presented as the catalyst for the story to begin, being saved by a princess this time as they start a rebellion against an evil Emperor. Sounds familiar? This is where Star Wars comes in more full, acting as an inspiration for the science fantasy elements that come in during the later half of this game and the first one. The final location of a floating island could be considered part of Star War’s Cloud City, but it can also be tied to the more Japanese inspiration of Castle in the Sky.
Studio Ghibli, the “Japanese Disney”, came out with this movie a year prior to Final Fantasy 1’s release. In this movie, steampunk retrofuturism was inspired by science romanticism books of the 1800s, while its castle in the sky was inspired by the floating island in the satirical novel Gulliver's Travels (1726). All of these are still directly inspired by both the hero’s journey of alchemical study (through Star Wars) and mythological journeys(with floating islands being found in Homer’s Odyssey). The steampunk style continued into later titles, allowing the usage of swords with the combination of robots to make sense to the player. This also reinforces a romantic approach to storytelling, as Arthurian romance and scientific romance are combined into a mythological premise concerning the end of the world and heroes who go out to save it with MacGuffins.
Two creatures that would play important roles for the heroes were both made by the same designer: Koichi Ishii. The Chocobo would be used as a giant bird that you ride like a horse, while the Moogle was meant to be a spiritual assistant that has a pom-pom growing out of its head, symbolically declaring itself as your personal cheerleader. The cat-like body of the Moogle, as well as its infinite source of magical assistance, could easily be traced back to the 60s blue cat named Doraemon. While the cute Moogle was based on a culturally significant source (as well as the kami of Japanese folklore), the chocobo turned itself into one by becoming a cute form of transportation, both allowing the game to become more appealing to kids and animal lovers. These additions allowed the traveling merchants of the game, as well as the trusty galliform, to serve more of a story purpose when their significant locations are visited.
By the time we hit Final Fantasy 6, the classes are changed from choosing outfits to become character locked. At this point, the characters themselves are the class, with more classes collected as more characters are collected along the way. Their backstories come with their discovery, allowing their hometowns to become different locations across the map, and their relationships growing into pre-game histories and future romances. The summoner, a special type of mage, is treated as the most important type of character, due to their control of creatures that are based on our polytheistic gods and some mythological characters. Their role is to serve as a humorous deus ex machina, a reference to how plays would use a god of mythology to interfere with a story and set things right when the writer usually wrote themselves into a corner.
The roles of characters each become a repetition of this setup from 6, causing several key plot points to occur. The main “leader” is a young male who holds a bladed weapon, in the form of a sword or dagger. This is the “Luke Skywalker” of the group who is aided by an older magician or mentor who shows him the ropes. Along the way, they find a “princess” with access to ancient powers who is able to lead them to the MacGuffin that will save the world. From the beginning, they are opposed by a “black knight” who is the shadow of the leader, with an emperor antagonist that is overshadowed by this black knight, leading to the final showdown that is fought in several stages.
Three stages are utilized to represent the destruction of the antagonist’s body, mind, and spirit. Their presence throughout the story is in the form of stages, acting as spiritual checkpoints for the heroic leader to confront their shadow. Once the evil “emperor” is defeated, the shadow's presence brings in the apocalypse that threatens the world, as well as their symbolic four horsemen. Across the journey of the main party, they unlock the 4 forms of transportation: earth(main map), water(boat), air (airship), and fire (combustion vehicle/chocobo). Each quest unlocks the next quest with the next ability to access it, whether it’s a key item or a form of this transportation.
Each game comes with about 10 hours of storylines, making up about a fifth of total gameplay for an average playthrough. This sounds like a lot, but when split up by the 5 point story structure, this gives about 2 hours per point. When we realize there are an average of 70 locations per game, we can feel overwhelmed by the amount of locations to visit. Thankfully, only a small handful are actual story locations and the majority are battle locations for gameplay. The trick to figuring out their location planning is all in the types of locations they go through.
Locations are split into two types: 1. Hub 2. Dungeon
Hubs come in: 1. Small merchant 2. Rest stop(usually a save point) 3. Village (people but no shops) 4. Town (people and shops) 5. City (people, shops, side quests) 6. Castle (people, shops, main quests)
The dungeons come in the variety of: 1. Grassy 2. Desert 3. Snowy 4. Mountain 5. underwater 6. Cave 7. Forest 8. Haunted House 9. Laboratory 10. Castle 11. Space/unknown
When we view it in this way, those 70 locations get split into 35 each, with about 4- 5 hubs for each type and 3 - 4 dungeons of each type. With how each game needs a main hub as the kingdom, the emperor’s tower, the shadow’s fortress, a hometown(plus dungeon) for each side character, 3 to 4 main islands, and remakes of locations caused by running themes(like the gardens in 8), the tall order becomes far more shorter than presumed. The gathering of the side characters make up the bulk of act 2, which include: 1. A driver of the airship 2. An unconventional “mancer” 3. A gag character 4. One who betrays the empire (sometimes comes as an NPC or temporary character) 5. Secret characters 6. A tragic character (seeks revenge on the empire) 7. A dragoon (or sniper in the case of FF8
These character types can be combined in any way, but the goal is to include them for a full experience.
As for villains, the typical boss will be based on a particular weakness to a single(or theme based) type of attack. Reoccurring “Team Rocket” style battles will act as another form of story checkpoint, with these goons being a creature like Ultros or a trio like The Turks. In the final dungeon, a boss rush will either summon a lot of previous bosses to take you on at a higher level, or introduce a cast of new bosses that are to be fought at different layers. The defeat of a boss is meant to be the ending of a quest and the expansion into the next quest area until the game is over, with optional bosses causing neither of these(hence the name “optional”). The normal enemies of the area are (supposed) to train the player for the encounter with the boss of that same area.
Final Fantasy followed this simple formula for about 10 installments until the PS2 era started to make it shaky and then Final Fantasy 12 removed the doomsday weapon. 13 removed the male lead and any coherent recollection of a main antagonist. Once we got to 15, the doomsday weapon was back but now the summonings are treated like main characters. The remake of 7 flips everything on its head as it tries to force Midgar to be a world of its own, not realizing that the journey requires the player to leave the castle and get on an airship within the same game. As time goes on, the romanticism of its origins will be lost and it will just be building over itself without understanding where any of the structure comes from, because each installment comes with more deconstruction.
Final Fantasy started as romantic mythology, tied together with the fairy tale magic of Disney and Studio Ghibli. Everything about it is supposed to be cute, aimed at kids, hits hard enough to make an adult cry, and blessed by the presence of consistency. We don’t need the games to be more realistic, we need them to be more enjoyable. But hopefully, with this guide, you will be able to make your own Final Fantasy one day. You will make it better, make it proper, and it will certainly not be the final time we see it.

Research Article: The Impact of Orochi Main Gameplay on Mental Health

Abstract

This study, conducted by Dr. G. Smith, investigates the potential correlation between playing Orochi in a popular online game and the likelihood of mental disability. The research aims to provide insights into how specific gaming behaviors might influence mental health. The study found that individuals who main Orochi have an 87% increased likelihood of developing mental disabilities compared to non-Orochi players.

Introduction

Video gaming is a widely popular activity with varying impacts on mental health. While some studies have shown positive cognitive benefits, others have raised concerns about potential adverse effects. This study focuses on players who main Orochi, a character in the game "For Honor," to assess the association between this specific gameplay and mental health outcomes.

Methods

Participants

A total of 1,000 participants were recruited for the study through gaming forums, social media platforms, and online gaming communities. The participants were divided into two groups: - Orochi Mains (n=500): Individuals who exclusively or predominantly play as Orochi. - Non-Orochi Players (n=500): Individuals who play other characters or diversify their gameplay.

Inclusion Criteria

Exclusion Criteria

Data Collection

Data were collected using a combination of self-reported surveys and psychological assessments. The survey included questions on gaming habits, frequency, duration, and character preference. Psychological assessments were conducted using standardized tools, including: - The General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) - The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) - The Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)

Procedure

  1. Recruitment: Participants were recruited online and provided informed consent.
  2. Survey and Assessment: Participants completed the initial survey and psychological assessments.
  3. Follow-up: Assessments were repeated after six months to monitor changes in mental health status.

Statistical Analysis

Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Logistic regression was used to determine the likelihood of developing mental disabilities in Orochi mains compared to non-Orochi players. Odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. A p-value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant.

Results

The logistic regression analysis revealed that Orochi mains have a significantly higher likelihood of developing mental disabilities (OR: 1.87; 95% CI: 1.50-2.34, p < 0.001) compared to non-Orochi players. The primary mental health issues identified were increased levels of anxiety and depression.

Discussion

The findings suggest a strong correlation between maining Orochi and an increased likelihood of mental disabilities. Several factors may contribute to this correlation: - The competitive and stressful nature of playing Orochi. - Potential social isolation due to intense gaming habits. - In-game experiences and interactions that could negatively impact mental health.
Further research is needed to explore the underlying mechanisms and to establish causation. It is also important to consider other confounding factors such as personality traits and pre-existing conditions.

Conclusion

This study highlights a significant association between playing as Orochi in "For Honor" and an increased likelihood of mental disabilities. These findings underscore the need for awareness and preventive measures in the gaming community to mitigate potential mental health risks.

2024.05.17 08:44 XZCosmos1 Pre-Nursing Tips V2

Hi all UPN/Pre-Nursing people! I just wanted to write out some tips on how to look best on your NursingCAS applications for your goal starting semester. This is a pretty detailed guide with some good calculations to determine other scores beyond just the basic impaction score. This also provides some resources for your TEAs that I found most useful. This guide is directed towards those applying to SJSU especially those on the Pre-Nursing Track at SJSU.
Don't flop your first semester: It is true that the first semester of college has a learning curve, but it is still important that you stay focused and maintain a high GPA. For many this is the easiest semester, but don't be fooled English 1A or Chem30A/BIOL65 will bite you in the butt last second.
Aim for a high GPA not solely TEAs: As much as people brag about their TEAs scores a GPA at SJSU is much more important! If you have a 4.0 GPA and score lower on your TEAs you will have a way better shot at getting in. Take this for example: a person got 2 A- in 3 unit courses out of the big 8. This makes their cumulative GPA a 3.94 GPA. If this person applied to nursing against a person with a 4.0 this score is then doubled, for impaction. 8 compared to a 7.88. With 2 A-'s you now need to do better than 3.5% of whatever teas score the kid with a 4.0 got. Also keep in mind that SJSU already requires a 84% to even apply leaving a 16% playing field. If you get a 4.0 and a 84% a person with 3.94 needs to get a 87.5% on their teas!
Don't rely on comparing stats to AllNurses: This is a hot take, but hear me out; 60 kids get into SJSUs nursing program and maybe 10 people post their stats on AllNurses. I am throwing no shade saying this, but these are the people that are for the most part going to get in. Some claim to have 4.0 GPAs, 98 TEAs, 2000hrs of Healthcare experience, and co-reqs done too. Obviously they are going to get in but, that spot is now taken from a person bringing it down to 59 others. It is nice to have a comparison to, but unless more people post on it people are going to have skewed to the right opinions. There are tons of applicants and there are different groups of people apply. The overachievers, the average, and the prayers. Most people are average and do not have the crazy stats these people have. There are some people that do post stats that are more relevant to compare to such as a 4.0 with an 88% or something like that. Again this is highballing and it is important to really dig deep into who got accepted when using this platform. A 92% TEAs is what even the pre-nursing advisors and these guys want you to drop the major. Do realize that if you have a lower GPA you will need a higher TEAs. Doing this calculation [20(4-(current GPA))*3] will tell you what you need in comparison to a 4.0 GPA.
The minimum GPA and TEAs: Yes it is true that if you do have a pretty poor GPA (3.3-3.4) and don't have the TEAs to make up for it then it is probably unlikely you will get into the program. But, at this campus the stats are never posted for who gets in and during which semester. Recently SJSU raised their TEAs from a 78% all the way up to a required 84% which to me is crazy high! I assume this is to cut down the amount of applicants and in turn this makes the TEAs pretty irrelevant to the total stats. With only a 16% max gap, now any person who is able to apply to nursing must have at least that score making the GPA that much more important. If you have a 3.9 GPA and a 94 on your teas, a person with a 3.8 will still get outcompeted regardless of TEAs score. This is most likely why the GPA was lowered for nursing and is now a 3.3 instead the previous 3.4 because some kids may have done well in the GPA aspect and messed up their TEAs. Aim for a higher GPA but do realize that a lot of kids do manage to get really good GPAs that correlate with good TEAs scores. Get a good GPA, 3.8 and above is pretty good, a 3.9+ is quality work for both Fall and Spring semesters, and make sure to aim for higher than the TEAs threshold.Nursing advisors deter people from applying but, it is accurate that as of Fall 2024 that you have to be at the top to get in. Keep in mind that there are 500+ applicants and only 60 get in that is only 12% of the applicant pool. You need to aim for the 80th percentile at the minimum to be on the waitlist first round (beating 400 other applicants)
TEAs Test: Now I know I have talked a lot about the importance of the GPA, but regardless you still do want to do well on the TEAs. Your TEAs score, like I talked about above, is directly related to your GPA. If you got a lower GPA you need a high TEAs and if you got a high GPA you can slack on the TEAs score. If you have a low GPA this will make or break the odds of getting in and every 3% on the test you get a .1 point increase. Going against what I think everyone I have ever talked to has said, for me personally I say take the TEAs online, if that is still an option. Not only can you take the test literally whatever day you want, you can also take it at whatever time of that day you selected as long as a proctor is available. Some argue that the they test better when in a school environment and this is valid, but I also test better in those environments and I bombed my first TEAs due to nerves. When I took it online the only stressors were if the test were to crash or the proctor flagged my exam for no reason, but neither of those happened not even close. The low stress of being at home and taking the test when I wanted to allowed for much better results and comfort. You get to finish the sections when you want. If you think you are done and don't want to triple check your answers to save the brainpower for later sections you get that option. Take the test where you think you will test best though and take these words with a grain of salt. I just wanted to say that the TEAs online is the same content as it is in person and at the leisure of your home. Not many people talk about how the TEAs online is positive for some people!
Get the extra points if you can: The extra points are pretty easy to get at SJSU especially as commuters. Of course nobody can make themselves a first generation student, but if you are that is easy free points and congrats. No one has a clue what SJSU gives as a "bump" to an applicants score and it is honestly only there because everyones stats are so similar so they need more tie breakers. Granted, you will most likely want to win the tie breaker and in order to do you have to at least have all the co-reqs done. I want to be straight up and say I think the vast majority of students have these all completed prior to applying for the Fall because you have an extra semester (maybe not Spring idk). So make sure to have these all completed so you are not left behind and waste an attempt in the SJSU applicant pool(unless you have great stats t or have healthcare hrs instead then just apply). You only have 2 attempts at applying to nursing at SJSU so make them count. If you can, there is also the healthcare hours bump. This is a bump isn't achieved by all applicants and could help if you have lower stats. Keep in mind that this usually involves volunteer work once a week for 4hr shifts so you will be wherever you choose to stay for about 6 months (decent time commitment with school). I've heard that the healthcare hrs are pretty lenient about what exactly you did as long as it is part of the healthcare field and you can get it signed. Of course if you already have had a health job within 3 years this is a free point bump too!
Spring semester isn't as easy to get into as it once was: SJSU changed this policy. In 2023 only transfer students can apply for SJSU fall semester cohorts, no longer accepting post-bacs. Whereas spring semester cohorts will accept post-bacs and no longer accept transfer students. This means that Fall semester likely is getting more difficult to get into as all transfer students have to apply for the same cohort. It is believed that the School accepts a bunch of SJSU students and after the initial acceptance everyone on the waitlist is combined meaning more transfers will get in from the waitlist process as they may not have made the original cut with the SJSU students bump. This would also mean there are less opportunities for SJSU students to get in during the spring cohort as they battle against stronger transfer candidates. As for transfers, in Fall there are more opportunities to get in as more are accepted initally and through the waitlist process. For post-bacs the same process is in place but, since the top UPN students (because they were following the exact track) were picked out for Fall stats could be a little lower. Regardless, Fall semester cohorts I would assume have slightly higher impaction scores from all areas that are applying as most students took their time throughout all the courses and UPN program students are all expected to apply for Fall semester. Take this all with a grain of salt since again there are no exact numbers of all that get accepted as transfers and post-bacs and if these numbers have increased because of this change.
Remember your overall GPA prior to applying does matter: Your overall GPA does matter when applying for nursing at SJSU! When it comes to tiebreakers if everything is the same - the gpa, the teas, and the extra points - the school will look at overall GPAs to decide who gets in. So make sure to get good grades in that moral issues class freshman year because it will come back to haunt you if you don't get in because of it.
Don't Break down!: It is easy to read all of this and think that you are screwed, but it is important to remember that many people are in the exact same situation. We are not all getting 4.0s and 92s on our teas like our advisors tell us we need. Expect A-'s and a B+. No stats are published and nobody knows for sure what you need but the advisors say people get "mostly a's". Aim for the highest impaction score that you can get and don't slack on it because literally that is what is determining if you get in or not.
Waitlist: If you get waitlisted it really is not the end of the world. Most schools send out acceptance letters in two waves one at the beginning/mid of April and at the end of April where people accept of decline their schools. SJSU keeps a long waitlist because a lot of people drop the school for more local schools/bigger name schools so never lose hope. I've heard stories of people being #70 on the waitlist and still getting in. (FYI you have to contact someone to check if you were waitlisted you will not get any notice of what is taking so long for your acceptance. only when you are on the waitlist can you contact staff about your placement. Staff will not tell you where you are if you are not emailed by Nursing that you are on the waitlist.)
EXTRA Info:
TEAs Studying TIPs:
Application Assistance:
I know this whole process is stressful and pretty terrifying, but everyone has a chance. This is just what I have learned throughout the whole process and hopefully it will help others that have 0 clue what is going on. Although some of this may make it seem like you need to have crazy high stats I am just trying to say do your best. If SJSU ever posts the stats for accepted applicants this would a be a different story. This is a CSU so unfortunately this application does follow the "a single number means everything" this means your impaction score is who you are; not necessarily how well rounded you may be. Good luck to all future nursing applicants and congrats.
"Congratulations! This email is to inform you of your provisional acceptance to The Valley Foundation School of Nursing at San José State University" Fall
You can DM if you have any questions.

Bonjour et Bienvenue mes amis,
Welcome to the first check-in for The Fall by Albert Camus. Since it's a short Novella, we are covering to around the half-way mark with a paragraph ending in "What we call basic truths are simply the ones we discover after all the others." per the Schedule.
As always, please be mindful of all of the newbie readers and tag your potential spoilers. Feel free to pop over to the Marginalia if you binged this novella in one sitting and want to chat!
My brain hurts too much from trying to get through these pages to summarize, so head on over to another site like Gradesaver for a recap. Honestly this post is so late as my attention was fading throughout this section. See my below questions to help guide some discussion. 2024.05.17 08:02 OmTv01 Exploring Jnana Yoga: The Path of Knowledge

Jnana Yoga is one of the four main paths of yoga in Hindu philosophy, emphasizing the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom as a way to achieve spiritual liberation. Unlike other forms of yoga that focus on physical postures or devotional practices, Jnana Yoga delves into deep intellectual inquiry and self-reflection. In this blog, we'll explore what Jnana Yoga is, its core principles, practices, and its relevance today. By the end, you'll understand why Jnana Yoga is a vital spiritual path and how Omtvlive can help you learn more about it.

What is Jnana Yoga?

Jnana Yoga, often called the "yoga of knowledge," is a spiritual discipline that seeks to unite the individual soul (Atman) with the ultimate reality (Brahman) through the acquisition of true knowledge. This knowledge is not merely intellectual but experiential, leading to a profound understanding of the self and the universe.

Core Principles of Jnana Yoga

  1. Discrimination (Viveka): The ability to distinguish between the real and the unreal, the permanent and the impermanent. Practitioners of Jnana Yoga strive to see beyond the illusions of the material world.
  2. Dispassion (Vairagya): Detachment from the sensory pleasures and material possessions that bind the soul. This principle encourages a focus on inner spiritual growth rather than external achievements.
  3. Six Virtues (Shatsampat): These include tranquility, control of the senses, withdrawal from distractions, endurance, faith, and concentration. Together, they help create a stable mind capable of deep contemplation.
  4. Desire for Liberation (Mumukshutva): An intense longing for spiritual liberation and freedom from the cycle of birth and death (samsara). This desire fuels the practitioner’s commitment to the path of Jnana Yoga.

Practices of Jnana Yoga

Practicing Jnana Yoga involves several key activities aimed at cultivating wisdom and self-awareness:
  1. Study of Scriptures (Svadhyaya): Reading and reflecting on sacred texts such as the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. These texts provide profound insights into the nature of reality and the self.
  2. Meditation (Dhyana): Deep meditation practices help still the mind and focus on the inner self, allowing practitioners to experience their true nature.
  3. Self-Inquiry (Atma Vichara): A process of questioning and introspection, often summarized by the question "Who am I?" This practice encourages seekers to look beyond their ego and identify with their true, eternal self.
  4. Satsang: Gathering with like-minded individuals to discuss spiritual topics and learn from experienced teachers. This communal aspect of Jnana Yoga provides support and inspiration.

Relevance of Jnana Yoga Today

In our fast-paced, modern world, the timeless wisdom of Jnana Yoga remains highly relevant. Here are a few reasons why:
  1. Inner Peace: Jnana Yoga helps individuals find inner peace by understanding the transient nature of worldly experiences. This perspective can reduce stress and anxiety.
  2. Clarity and Focus: The principles of discrimination and concentration enhance mental clarity and focus, aiding in personal and professional decision-making.
  3. Self-Realization: By exploring the true nature of the self, Jnana Yoga fosters a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment, beyond material success.
  4. Ethical Living: The virtues cultivated in Jnana Yoga encourage ethical behavior and a compassionate approach to life, contributing to a more harmonious society.

2024.05.17 07:17 j3r3myd34n Passed! 102 questions

I couldn't believe it. I felt confident on maybe 20% of the questions. Was pretty sure I was failing terribly all the way through. But thanks to this sub, I was familiar with similar stories. Once I went past question 100 I thought "welp, glad I got the retake" as I had only 38 mins left. I did two more questions, and it told me to go pick up my results. I didn't even look at it until I got to the car. Then I read "Congratulations..."

I am just taking this for professional growth, I was under no timeline or obligation.

In hindsight, I wish I would have printed the mind maps and filled them out as I watched the LinkedIn Learning videos. I watched those on double-speed since a good chunk of this stuff is already familiar from Security+ and just my work experience. As I completed sections for each Domain in LiL,I would do the quizzes in the Practice Questions book under that domain 10 – 20 questions a few times a week, and as I progressed I would add in questions from the previous covered domains, tracking it all in Excel. I was working out of the 2nd edition book (2018 - hand-me-down) but I bought the 3rd edition (2021) for the practice tests. There is not a huge difference but I figured I could use any edge I could get.

I spent a lot of time analyzing and studying any questions I missed in the quizzes. By the time I did the first practice exam I got 74% correct. I’d study the ones I missed, and do the next test. After I finished the 4 Practice Tests in the 3rd ed (74, 76, 77 and 78%) I scheduled with a month left. I then went back and did the tests from the 2nd editions, studying in between the hazy subjects or missed questions. Scored 74%, 80% and 89% on the ones I did there – but keep in mind, they are basically the same tests I already did with a few questions swapped out.

The mind maps were helpful - just a good place to take written notes and keep track of topics and Domains and draw stuff out like Kerberos and IPSec, etc. I didn’t start using those until 2 weeks before the test, I was like “damnit – this would have been so helpful” - some of the more subtle stuff is easier to remember if you group it in under the appropriate section, and I think writing supposedly improves ability to recall information also.

The podcast I just turned on a couple days ago but it was helpful to listen to the items as I was driving to and from work, I thought it was well done. I also thought the 50 CISSP Questions YouTube video was helpful to remind me of the mindset we need to have when taking this test. I am definitely someone that gets lost in the details, as you might guess from this wall of text. ;)

Glad I did it, glad it’s over. Going to unwind and focus on my home life, degree and work initiatives for rest of year.

2024.05.17 07:01 introverted_platypus How I fell into a cult but came back home

Hello everyone. I have been lurking on this reddit for a few months and I really want to share my experience with a cult called Shincheonji. I really want to raise awareness of how this cult works and tries to get Catholic believers.
How I got recruited: I started going to mass after a long time being away from the church. I didn't really know where to find fellowship groups for people my age. The parish by my house did not have a young adult Bible study group at the time. I went to confession and poured my heart out. I really prayed to God for help. The next day I met someone in a public area and she was offering Bible study one on one lessons. I really thought this person was someone God guided me to because she told me she was Catholic. Later I found out she was acting like she was Catholic to gain my trust. I did like the lessons she gave me so I agreed to attend the larger Bible study group to learn about parables. There were lessons that I had no problems with but there was many lessons that really rubbed me the wrong way but I continued in the class because my "faith friend" who was assigned to me was encouraging me and love bombing me a lot. Later I realized she was reporting everything I disagreed with in a telegram group chat and any secrets I told her about my life she probably also reported them in the group chat too. They went over the Holy Trinity and called it a mans teaching. Unfortunately I didn't really know how to explain or defend it so I blindly believe them 😞 years later I realized they totally misrepresented it. I continued the course because I liked the fellowship and I was pretty lonely during the pandemic. Unfortunately I didn't see the red flags and I trusted my faith friends a lot.
After the Bible study course: I became a member of the church and worked to bring other people to this place which is supposed to be heaven on earth. They believe everyone needs to be part of the 12 tribes prophesied in Revelation 7 to be saved. For a long time I believed this too. This cult will make fellowship events to invite people to, but these events do not show the real name of the church. But I had big doubts! The leader called COVID 19 pandemic the great tribulation but this "great tribulation" was not supposed to happen until the 144,000 are sealed. To this day the 144,000 are not named. The leader MHL claims to have seen and heard all the events of Revelation but he was wrong about this prophecy.
Waking up: After I realized that the leader is a false prophet, I had a strong desire to learn the truth. One of the Bible verses I read that really helped me was Matthew 28:19. I thought to myself maybe there really is good reason to believe in the Holy Trinity. I was pretty happy to go back to mass. I felt awkward at first but i felt a sense of relief that I don't have to serve a false prophet anymore.
Today I can't wait to go through confirmation classes. I am doing my best to spread awareness because I don't want anyone else to go through what I went through. Also it can happen to anyone! During my time in shincheonji, I saw a lot of young adults, middle aged people, and even elderly people. So if someone offers you a Bible study but won't tell you what church it belongs to this is a red flag that it is a cult. If someone approaches you asking for help with a survey that includes faith questions, don't give them your phone number! Lastly if a Catholic you don't know offers you a Bible study, make sure you can verify what parish the Bible study belongs to. Shincheonji will have bible study lessons on Zoom but they will also use conference rooms.
God bless you all 🙏

However, embarking on the DBA degree online journey necessitates careful planning, strategic execution, and unwavering dedication. This blog explores the step-by-step process of pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration, empowering you to navigate this rewarding academic endeavor.

Matching Goals with the DBA:

Before embarking on this significant undertaking, it's crucial to engage in profound self-reflection. Evaluate your professional goals and aspirations. What specific challenges within your chosen field do you aim to address? How will a DBA degree propel you towards achieving your career objectives? Examining these questions with deep self-awareness will help determine whether the DBA aligns with your long-term aspirations and career trajectory.

Exploring Program Options:

Many colleges now offer Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) online programs in addition to traditional on-campus alternatives due to the growing demand for flexible learning. When conducting a program study, carefully take into account elements like:

Meeting Admissions Requirements:

Most DBA programs stipulate specific requirements for admission. Typically, applicants must possess a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a closely related field, along with demonstrable professional experience (often ranging from 5 to 10 years). Additionally, strong academic credentials and letters of recommendation from respected academic and professional references are vital components of a compelling application package.

Preparing Application Materials:

Transcripts: Submit official transcripts from all accredited institutions you have attended.

Navigating the Admissions Process:

Be prepared to participate in an admissions interview. This crucial step serves as an opportunity to showcase your passion for your chosen field, articulate your research interests with clarity, and demonstrate your preparedness for the demanding academic journey ahead. Approach the interview with confidence, highlight your relevant skills and experiences, and demonstrate your readiness to contribute meaningfully to the program.

Committing to the Coursework:

DBA programs typically involve 3-6 years of intensive coursework designed to hone your research and critical thinking abilities. Expect to delve into core subjects like advanced business research, statistics, and research methodology. Additionally, delve deeper into specialized areas of your chosen field, such as finance, marketing, or leadership, depending on your specific program and research interests.

Developing Your Dissertation:

Your DBA program comes to a close with your dissertation. This important research topic necessitates the formulation of a novel research question and careful data gathering, processing, and interpretation. The process finishes in an extensive document that showcases your discoveries, advancements in the sector, and possible consequences for improving business procedures.

Leveraging Online Resources:

Online DBA programs frequently offer strong learning environments with devoted teacher assistance, interactive learning spaces, and online resources like databases and scholarly journals. These resources can greatly improve your capacity for study and learning. Make the most of them by participating in online workshops, holding online conversations, and asking faculty mentors for advice.

Building a Network for Success:

During your DBA program, interact actively with your mentors, peers, and instructors. This creates beneficial networking chances for you to meet well-known academics and experts in your industry. You can increase your knowledge base, widen your perspectives, and possibly even open doors for future employment prospects by developing strong contacts within the academic and professional communities

Recognizing Your Commitment and Dedication:

A DBA degree is an enormous accomplishment that attests to your unrelenting commitment, tenacity, and knowledge. Take great satisfaction in this amazing accomplishment as it is the result of years of arduous labor, introspection, and development.

2024.05.17 06:52 Outside_Music_9750 Studying for NPTE Question and Tips

Hey yall! I just started studying for the NPTE. I got the Scorebuilders Complete Exam study guide and the TherapyEd Course manual as my study tools besides my school notes and textbooks. I had a few questions for you all that have taken the NPTE.
  1. Would it be better to put most of my effort in studying off the NPTE study guides (Scorebuilders, TherapyEd, FF, etc.) or use my school notes?
  2. When studying muscle actions, should I just focus on the information that is listed in the NPTE Study Guides or more in my school notes (school used Kendalls)? I did notice that there some differences between them, but I don't want to over-stress on studying some minute detail that I do not need to.
  3. To improve on the intervention portion of the NPTE, how did you guys approach those types of questions when studying?
If you have any other tips, I'm open to any thing! Thank you!

Hi all! I know that these questions are posted often, but I’ve searched a lot and I’m still moderately confused, so I figured I’d ask.
For reference (and as an apology for possibly dumb questions): I’m high functioning, but still on the autism spectrum, so I really struggle when things aren’t completely spelled out for me step-by-step in new situations. (Once I know what I’m doing I’m good though. Autism won’t interfere with my ability to work in the field).
Other info about me, if it helps you advise: I’m in my 20s and have both a high school diploma and a trade school diploma (Nothing relevant to wastewater, it’s a veterinary assisting certificate). I don’t have my driver’s license yet, which I’ve read is usually required, but I have my learner’s permit and am working steadily on my license. I live in a pretty small rural area on the Utah-Idaho border. I have literally no experience or pre-existing knowledge about anything wastewater.
What I wanted to ask is 4 things:
1: What certifications should I/am I capable of getting before I begin applying to entry level positions in this field? I think that from my understanding if I pass my level 1 certification, I’d then have an OIT license until I have enough on-job experience to be fully certified? But I’m not sure if this is correct. If I’m incorrect, what’s the difference in applying for an OIT license vs a level 1 certification?
2: What book should I be buying to study? I see a few on the WPI website, which my state website links to as a study guide resource, but I’m nervous that I’d pick the wrong one and have wasted 100 dollars.
3: Keeping in mind that I currently know absolutely nothing intelligent about this field, how can I best prepare myself while I work on getting my driver’s license and certification/OIT? Are there topics that I should Google, or a YouTube channel with videos to watch as an intro in order to better understand my textbook/study guides when I get them, or are the books friendly to completely ignorant beginners? I’ve read a suggestion here about asking my local facility for a tour and asking lots of questions, but is that useful to do before I have any real knowledge?
4: Do you need to be a resident living in a state in order to be certified in that state? I hear that Idaho generally pays better than Utah, and since I’m so close to the border the commute wouldn’t be any different. Should I try getting certified for Idaho instead of Utah? CAN I be certified for a state that I don’t reside in?
Thank you to anyone who reads this or answers me. I know that I must sound silly, but I usually need to be walked through the unfamiliar. I considered calling the number provided for the state Wastewater Operator Certification Program that my state website says to call if you have any questions, but I’m nervous that they wouldn’t appreciate me asking them to basically hold an adult man’s hand through some probably-common-sense-stuff.

D315 Network And Security Foundations
Can someone please help me with this OA? I really don't understand where I'm going wrong at all. This is already my 2nd attempt which is for some reason worse than my first! I have used the study guide everyone keeps praising over. The study guide is no help at all there is absolutely nothing on the study guide that talks about the part I keep failing on. I keep thinking maybe it's the network commands but I read every command a million times until I had every single one memorized. I tried to look for the right mitigations for attacks but nothing is relevant to the OA at all. I really don't know what I'm struggling with. Another thing is I had the same exact question 4 times with one answer switched up so it makes me think maybe it's the one that keeps switching but sometimes that answer doesn't fit.

2024.05.17 05:24 love_is_a_superpower Bible answers to Christian questions

Three big questions many Christians have.
If God is good:
  1. Why does life depend on death to continue?
  2. Why hasn't Jesus returned and made things right yet?
  3. Why hasn't Jesus' teaching done away with suffering?
Life is a classroom to teach us how to be worthy of eternity. Eden represents life in its perfect, heavenly state. God created us in His image to teach us to be like Himself. Unity, equality, and love are distinct, but inseparable components of God. We must learn to value them to be worthy of eternal life.
We had everything we needed in Eden to create heaven on earth. We could have learned every lesson by interacting with God and Creation. The animals' traits teach us about character. The plants teach us value. The seasons teach us preparation and timing. Every lesson shows that patience and love give the greatest benefit. Healthy limits on these avoid their abuse.
The unity of Adam and Eve shows us why we must be like God to fulfill our purpose. (The other big lesson of "family" is to support the weak, Job 29:11-17, Acts 4:32-35) Adam is made in God's image. God gives Adam His own breath = spirit. (John 4:24) Adam has a surplus without a deficit to fill. This is the state God / Love is in without a Creation to receive His love. Adam sees his need when he cannot find a worthy partner among the animals. (Genesis 2:20) From his own body, God fashions a woman. Eve, was with Adam from the beginning, but not in a form that truly completed him. She is given back to him and they return to being one. (Genesis 2:23-24) We "leave and cleave" because this sacred relationship is the most important lesson we need to get before time runs out. We can learn to be one in the most joyful and painless way, if we keep marriage sacred and sinless.
Sin divides us. Every lesson on earth teaches us to distinguish between what brings life or death. All sin eventually brings death. We change our classroom every time we bring sin/death into it. We have to deal with the consequences as part of our lessons. The curses on the First Family, are lessons that teach what a god must patiently endure when his creation deviates from eternal behavior. (Psalm 82:6, Matthew 5:43-45, John 10:27-38)
This pattern continues throughout history; for example, we didn't have a "death-penalty" until we needed it to stop sin from spreading to all life. Once we realized, "an eye for an eye" would make the whole world blind, we were ready for the Healer, Jesus Messiah.
The questions:
  1. "If God is good, why does life depend on death to survive?"
Death is a consequence of being unable or unwilling to sustain life. Sin is willful deviation from unity/equality/love. Sin leads to death of the innocent. It eventually will lead to the death of everything. It is stopped by the correction and/or punishment of the deviant death-bringer. (The difference is between willful sin and ignorant sin. Numbers 15:28-31, Romans 5:12-21, Luke 12:47-48, Romans 6:23)
The death-penalty is like surgery. It's a last-resort treatment to keep sin from spreading to healthy, life-supporting members of creation. There was no death in Eden until humans brought it in by sinning, instead of healing our world. (Genesis 1:28, Genesis 2:15) The flood account tells us that all life was corrupted by sin. It's why God resorted to destroying every land animal that didn't enter the Ark. (Genesis 6:11-12)
When man left the Ark, we received meat as food and the death-penalty for shedding innocent blood. This came about in order to weed-out the abusive and negligent. (I say "we" because we are all still one, as long as sin doesn't separate us.) Removing the sinful, and cleaning up after sin is part of sustaining life now. (Genesis 9:1-6) Creation is made whole again when its resources are put to use by those who submit to eternal laws, (Unity, equality, love. Proverbs 28:8) Evolution denies the Biblical account, so please know I don't judge anyone for believing our secular school teachers. Evolution can't account for things like this: "Deer saves rabbit from hawk." There will be no death in the age to come. (1 Corinthians 15:26, Isaiah 25:8)
  1. "Why hasn't Jesus returned and made things right yet."
God is being patient with us. He doesn't want anyone that could be saved to be left behind. (Ezekiel 18:30-32, 2 Peter 3:9, Matthew 24:29-44) We have time limits on our lessons. Like babes in the womb, mankind has a fixed time in this age. We will become fit for eternity or we won't, depending on what we spent our lives becoming. We are all one. Each person's experience serves as a witness to what is, or isn't life-sustaining. (Ecclesiastes 9:10, John 9:4) We're wise to live by eternal lessons for the sake of ourselves and those connected to us. (Ecclesiastes 9:11-18, Matthew 25:1-13)
  1. Why hasn't Jesus' teaching done away with suffering?
Sin creates suffering for everyone. That's why it's so evil. We have a free-will to choose death or life. (Genesis 2:9, Deuteronomy 30:19, Acts 2:38-40) Jesus taught us to do things that promote life, but we disobey Him. (Matthew 25:40, Proverbs 19:17) What we live and die to accomplish proves our devotion to love, unity and equality, or our lack of it. (John 11:7-10, 1 Peter 4:12-19)
Scripture references:
Life is a classroom meant to teach us how to be worthy of eternity.
Job 29:11-17 NKJV
11 When the ear heard, then it blessed me, And when the eye saw, then it approved me; 12 Because I delivered the poor who cried out, The fatherless and the one who had no helper. 13 The blessing of a perishing man came upon me, And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. 14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban. 15 I was eyes to the blind, And I was feet to the lame. 16 I was a father to the poor, And I searched out the case that I did not know. 17 I broke the fangs of the wicked, And plucked the victim from his teeth.
Acts 4:32-35 NKJV
32 Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own, but they had all things in common. 33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all. 34 Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 and laid them at the apostles' feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.
The first family's form and situation parallel spiritual truths about God.
John 4:24 NKJV
24 "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
Genesis 2:20-24 NKJV
20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 And Adam said: "This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Every lesson on earth teaches us to distinguish between what brings life or death, in order to become like God. He is the source and example of unity, equality and love.
Psalm 82:6 NKJV
6 I said, "You are gods, And all of you are children of the Most High.
Matthew 5:43-45 NKJV
43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
John 10:27-38 NKJV
27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. 30 "I and My Father are one." 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, "Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?" 33 The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God." 34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, "You are gods" '? 35 "If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36 "do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? 37 "If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38 "but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him."
The questions:
  1. "If God is good, why does life depend on death to survive?"
Death comes from being unable or unwilling to sustain life. Sin brings death when those who could sustain life abuse, neglect or don't understand their duties. We all have a conscience. We know we owe our lives to someone who believed in supporting the weak, but some of us listen to our flesh anyway.
Numbers 15:28-31 NKJV
28 'So the priest shall make atonement for the person who sins unintentionally, when he sins unintentionally before the LORD, to make atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him. 29 'You shall have one law for him who sins unintentionally, for him who is native-born among the children of Israel and for the stranger who dwells among them. 30 'But the person who does anything presumptuously, whether he is native-born or a stranger, that one brings reproach on the LORD, and he shall be cut off from among his people. 31 'Because he has despised the word of the LORD, and has broken His commandment, that person shall be completely cut off; his guilt shall be upon him.' "
Romans 5:12-21 NKJV
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned-- 13 (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. 16 And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification. 17 For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.) 18 Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous. 20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Luke 12:47-48 NKJV
47 "And that servant who knew his master's will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 48 "But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.
Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
There was no death in Eden until humans brought it in by sinning, instead of healing and taming our world. The flood account tells us that all life became irreparably corrupted by sin. We were put here to tame the animals, but instead, we led them by our bad example.
Genesis 1:28
Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Genesis 2:15 NKJV
15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
Genesis 6:11-12 NKJV
11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
There will be no death in the age to come.
1 Corinthians 15:26 NKJV
26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.
Isaiah 25:8 NKJV
8 He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the LORD has spoken.
When man left the Ark, we received meat as food and the death-penalty for shedding innocent blood. This came about in order to weed-out the abusive and negligent. Creation is made whole again when its resources are put to use by those who submit to the eternal laws of unity, equality, and love.
Genesis 9:1-6 NKJV
1 So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. 2 "And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand. 3 "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs. 4 "But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. 5 "Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man's brother I will require the life of man. 6 "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.
Proverbs 28:8 NKJV
8 One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion Gathers it for him who will pity the poor.
  1. "Why hasn't Jesus returned and made things right yet."
God is patient with us. He doesn't want anyone left behind unless its absolutely necessary.
Ezekiel 18:30-32 NKJV
30 "Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways," says the Lord GOD. "Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin. 31 "Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel? 32 "For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies," says the Lord GOD. "Therefore turn and live!"
2 Peter 3:9 NKJV
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Matthew 24:29-44 NKJV
29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 "Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 "And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32 "Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 33 "So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near--at the doors! 34 "Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 35 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. 36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. 37 "But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 38 "For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 "and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 "Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 "Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. 42 "Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 "But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 "Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Mankind has a fixed time on earth. We will become fit for eternity, or we won't, depending on how well we paid attention to life's lessons.
John 9:4 NKJV
4 "I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.
Ecclesiastes 9:10-18 NKJV
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going. 11 I returned and saw under the sun that--The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all. 12 For man also does not know his time: Like fish taken in a cruel net, Like birds caught in a snare, So the sons of men are snared in an evil time, When it falls suddenly upon them. 13 This wisdom I have also seen under the sun, and it seemed great to me: 14 There was a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great snares around it. 15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man. 16 Then I said: "Wisdom is better than strength. Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, And his words are not heard. 17 Words of the wise, spoken quietly, should be heard Rather than the shout of a ruler of fools. 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war; But one sinner destroys much good."
Matthew 25:1-13 NKJV
1 "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 "Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 "Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, 4 "but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 "But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 "And at midnight a cry was heard: 'Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!' 7 "Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. 8 "And the foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' 9 "But the wise answered, saying, 'No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' 10 "And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. 11 "Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us!' 12 "But he answered and said, 'Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.' 13 "Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
  1. Why hasn't Jesus' teaching done away with suffering?
Sin and suffering are inseparable. Our Teacher has done all He could to bring us into eternity despite our sinful world. He even provided a perfect example for us to follow. Sadly, some still use their free-will to choose sin. We must be able to manage a free-will to be safe to inherit eternity.
Genesis 2:9 NKJV
9 And out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Deuteronomy 30:19 NKJV
19 "I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
Acts 2:38-40 NKJV
38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 "For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." 40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation."
Jesus explained that our response to His teaching should be to do things that promote life.
Matthew 25:40
40 "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did good to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
Proverbs 19:17 NKJV
17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and He will pay back what he has given.
What we live and die for proves our commitment to love, unity and equality, or our lack of it.
John 11:7-10 NKJV
7 Then after this He said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again." 8 The disciples said to Him, "Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, and are You going there again?" 9 Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 "But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him."
1 Peter 4:12-19 NKJV
12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy. 14 If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter. 17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 Now "If the righteous one is scarcely saved, Where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?" 19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.
May truth and love guide us home.

Three big questions many Christians have.
If God is good:
  1. Why does life depend on death to continue?

19 "I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
May God's love guide us.
