Illegal U-turn Citation

2024.05.02 17:25 everyone_is_human Illegal U-turn Citation

Thanks for anyone that takes the time to read this.
I got voted for doing an illegal U-turn in a business district. Despite the office describing traffic as “heavy” there were no cars for several hundred feet ahead of me, and I checked my rear view mirror and there were no cars in sight. This was after turning onto Soquel from State Park Drive at the Safeway gas station. As described in the ticket I was going 5 miles an hour. I used my blinker, and while turning around drove my truck into the driveway/ingress that the gas station has enough to get my wheels off the road.
A Watsonville City PD is who pulled me over. He started the conversation with that fact, and said it multiple more times about how he actually serves in Watsonville (hmm).
Does he have the jurisdiction to even give someone an infraction like this as he was in Aptos?
It looks like the three main defenses to get out of it is to show you didn’t do an illegal U-turn, that the area was not a business district, or that you acted out of necessity.
A court showing is required and while the citation says nothing about the consequences, my research show it will put 1 point on my license along with a $258 fine.
Any ideas on the legitimacy of the citation issued (as he wasn’t in his jurisdiction it seems) and what I might be able to do to fight it?
Thanks again

2024.05.02 16:04 CampingWorld The Common Fifth Wheel Hitch Mistake New Owners Make

The forums at RV.net reveal a common fifth wheel hitch mistake that often happens to new (or even experienced) fifth wheel owners. This mistake involves improper use of a fifth wheel hitch, but the good news is that it can be avoided fairly easily.

The All-Too-Common Fifth Wheel Hitch Mistake

Imagine you’ve driven several hundred miles to your destination. You’ve been in your truck for hours and finally arrive at your campground. After several attempts and some slight adjustments, you’ve positioned your fifth wheel on the campsite. Everything is perfect.
You add wheel chocks to hold your fifth wheel in place, lower your landing legs, disconnect from your fifth wheel trailer hitch, and extend your slides. You set up your camping chairs around the firepit and start prepping dinner. That’s when you realize you’re out of cooking oil and need to make a store run. Or maybe you just need drinks or sides to go with dinner.
You double-check that the cables are disconnected between your truck and fifth wheel…all good there. So you hop in your truck, shift into drive, start to pull away, and then CRACK! What mistake did you make?
The answer: you forgot to lower the tailgate! As a result, your fifth wheel pin box dented your tailgate.
Take a second to compose yourself—this isn’t the first time this has happened to a fifth wheel owner, but our mission is to ensure we’re closer to it being the last. That’s why we’re raising tailgate awareness for the sake of fifth wheel hitches and owners everywhere.

A Simple Fifth Wheel Hitch Solution

First of all, you should set your wheel chocks, disconnect from your pin box, and pull your truck safely away BEFORE leveling and stabilizing your coach. So you shouldn’t start with dinner or other camp chores before completing the disconnection process.
All new fifth wheel owners can benefit from following a written, laminated checklist when hooking up and detaching their rig. Instead of just trying to remember all the little steps that go into this process, keep your list handy and check as you go.
A simple solution is removing your regular tailgate during the camping season. But there are pros and cons to this approach. While you’ll avoid this hitch mistake, the downside of this approach is the inability to store any extra camping gear in your truck bed between destinations.
You can replace your tailgate with a fifth wheel vent tailgate as an even better solution. This tailgate style includes a V-shaped cutout at the center, providing extra clearance for your pin box.

Your Fifth Wheel Hitch Setup Checklist

Before you take your new 5th wheel on its maiden voyage, download or print and laminate this hitch checklist for reference:
Watch the video below for a more in-depth walkthrough on how to hook up and disconnect your fifth wheel.

How To Adjust Fifth Wheel Hitch Height

It’s important that your trailer is level while in tow. If not, you are susceptible to issues like increased trailer sway, excessive chucking/jarring, poor fuel economy, and much more.
To start, level the trailer using the landing gear and measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the skid plate on the pin box. Next, measure the distance from the ground to the top of the hitch head on the fifth wheel hitch in your truck bed. If these two measurements don’t match, you’ll need to make some adjustments.
To level the trailer, you have a few options. The first option would be to adjust the hitch head height of your fifth wheel hitch. Nearly every fifth wheel hitch has an adjustable hitch head so you can level your trailer.
To change the hitch head height, you’ll need to consult the owner’s manual of your hitch. That said, most require removing and reinstalling bolts in a different set of holes on the base.
If the trailer is still not level even after adjusting the hitch head height, you may be able to adjust the height of the pin box. This is done by removing the bolts that secure the pin box to the frame and reinstalling these bolts in another set of holes (up or down), if applicable.
If you require further adjustments, you must raise or lower the trailer accordingly. This can be accomplished using lift blocks, axle flip kits, or new leaf spring hangers. Generally, you should have a minimum of six inches of clearance between your truck bed rails and the underside of your fifth wheel hangover.
If you need help leveling your trailer, you can always stop by your local Camping World Service Center for help.

Where Can I Get a Fifth Wheel Hitch Installed?

Installing a fifth wheel hitch is not something you should take lightly. There is an enormous safety concern if not done correctly, but you can also cause damage to your vehicle. In most cases, you’ll drill into the bed and/or frame to install a hitch. If not done properly, you risk unnecessary holes that can compromise the frame's integrity.
If you don’t feel up for the task of installing a fifth wheel hitch on your truck, reach out to a local Camping World Service Center for assistance.
The big takeaway for eliminating headaches when hitching up a fifth wheel is to take your time. Know the acceptable weight capacity for your specific hitch and follow your checklist to avoid skipping steps. If you do, you’ll avoid this hitch and towing mistake and enjoy your camping experience without headaches!

2024.05.02 15:59 Cdubya35 Rear wheel upgrade

I love my 5th gen!
Now that that’s out of the way, I’m looking to do a powder coating to the wheels this summer. The problem is I’m not a fan of the rear wheel and would like to upgrade before I commence.
The choices available appear to be these three:
A) RC36 (90-93, 8-spoke) Traditional, same size as OE, lovely-looking, hard to come by and expensive if they show up somewhere. B) 8th gen (14-19, 10-spoke) Same size as OE, very nice looking, more modern than OE, requires 5-lug upgrade, easily attainable. C) VFR1200 (10-spoke) 17x6, half inch wider to OE, very nice looking, more modern than OE, requires 5-lug upgrade, easily attainable, requires 190 rear tire, potential clearance issues to SSSA.
It’s a weekend bike, no track days, no long-distance touring, just some short trips through flat-as-your-middle-school-girlfriend Central Florida with occasionally moderate lean angles.
Thoughts, experiences?

2024.05.02 15:41 hecc_brain Roy P. Benavidez was based beyond belief

Roy P. Benavidez was based beyond belief
This is his MoH citation verbatim
"Master Sergeant Roy P. BENAVIDEZ United States Army, Retired CITATION:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty:
On 2 May 1968, Master Sergeant (then Staff Sergeant) Roy P. Benavidez distinguished himself by a series of daring and extremely valorous actions while assigned to Detachment B56, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces, Republic of Vietnam. On the morning of 2 May 1968, a 12-man Special Forces Reconnaissance Team was inserted by helicopters of the 240th Assault Helicopter Company in a dense jungle area west of Loc Ninh, Vietnam to gather intelligence information about confirmed large-scale enemy activity. This area was controlled and routinely patrolled by the North Vietnamese Army. After a short period of time on the ground, the team met heavy enemy resistance, and requested emergency extraction. Three helicopters attempted extraction, but were unable to land due to intense enemy small arms and anti-aircraft fire.
Sergeant BENAVIDEZ was at the Forward Operating Base in Loc Ninh monitoring the operation by radio when these helicopters, of the 240th Assault Helicopter Company, returned to off-load wounded crew members and to assess aircraft damage. Sergeant BENAVIDEZ voluntarily boarded a returning aircraft to assist in another extraction attempt. Realizing that all the team members were either dead or wounded and unable to move to the pickup zone, he directed the aircraft to a nearby clearing where he jumped from the hovering helicopter, and ran approximately 75 meters under withering small arms fire to the crippled team.
Prior to reaching the team's position he was wounded in his right leg, face, and head. Despite these painful injuries, he took charge, repositioning the team members and directing their fire to facilitate the landing of an extraction aircraft, and the loading of wounded and dead team members. He then threw smoke canisters to direct the aircraft to the team's position. Despite his severe wounds and under intense enemy fire, he carried and dragged half of the wounded team members to the awaiting aircraft. He then provided protective fire by running alongside the aircraft as it moved to pick up the remaining team members. As the enemy's fire intensified, he hurried to recover the body and classified documents on the dead team leader.
When he reached the leader's body, Sergeant BENAVIDEZ was severely wounded by small arms fire in the abdomen and grenade fragments in his back. At nearly the same moment, the aircraft pilot was mortally wounded, and his helicopter crashed. Although in extremely critical condition due to his multiple wounds, Sergeant BENAVIDEZ secured the classified documents and made his way back to the wreckage, where he aided the wounded out of the overturned aircraft, and gathered the stunned survivors into a defensive perimeter. Under increasing enemy automatic weapons and grenade fire, he moved around the perimeter distributing water and ammunition to his weary men, reinstilling in them a will to live and fight. Facing a buildup of enemy opposition with a beleaguered team, Sergeant BENAVIDEZ mustered his strength, began calling in tactical air strikes and directed the fire from supporting gunships to suppress the enemy's fire and so permit another extraction attempt.
He was wounded again in his thigh by small arms fire while administering first aid to a wounded team member just before another extraction helicopter was able to land. His indomitable spirit kept him going as he began to ferry his comrades to the craft. On his second trip with the wounded, he was clubbed from behind by an enemy soldier. In the ensuing hand-to-hand combat, he sustained additional wounds to his head and arms before killing his adversary.[7][note 1] He then continued under devastating fire to carry the wounded to the helicopter. Upon reaching the aircraft, he spotted and killed two enemy soldiers who were rushing the craft from an angle that prevented the aircraft door gunner from firing upon them. With little strength remaining, he made one last trip to the perimeter to ensure that all classified material had been collected or destroyed, and to bring in the remaining wounded.
Only then, in extremely serious condition from numerous wounds and loss of blood, did he allow himself to be pulled into the extraction aircraft. Sergeant BENAVIDEZ' gallant choice to join voluntarily his comrades who were in critical straits, to expose himself constantly to withering enemy fire, and his refusal to be stopped despite numerous severe wounds, saved the lives of at least eight men. His fearless personal leadership, tenacious devotion to duty, and extremely valorous actions in the face of overwhelming odds were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect the utmost credit on him and the United States Army."

2024.05.02 08:55 stuffstevesays ANC Wingtips? Can anyone comment on ANC of Bose/Sony vs Huawei? Low Rumble/Jet Engine/Motorcycle vs Voices, Mouse Clicks, and Office Chatter?

I'm looking for earbuds for flights (jet engine anc), office calls (mouse clicks, office chatter anc), movies, and music. Drowning out bus engine rumble and train wheel sequels is good too.
It's established that Bose anc is the best, but call quality is lacking and no multipoint. My LinkBuds anc is fine but when the earbud droops out of my ear anc is horrible. I like the idea of a wing to help keep the earbud in place. That leaves Bose and Galaxy Buds? More?
It's hard to compare Huawei Pro 3 and others due to the lack of people who reviewed the HP3. For call quality, one reviewer put the HP3 5th, after 1More Evo, Soundcore Liberty 4, and Edifier NeoBuds Pro 2... Jabra Elite 10 was mentioned too. I find it hard to believe after u/WeekendGearGuide extensive testing. Has u/WeekendGearGuide ever test those earbuds?
I have another pair of open earbuds for city navigation, so I dont care so much about transparency but I'd open.

2024.05.02 00:45 peachy_skeen AITA for asking SIL to take down video of my animals

I (22f) live on my family farm and recently my brother (32m) divorced his wife and got remarried (33f) and moved back to the farm in a 5th wheel. Legally speaking, he has no claim to the place, its only me and one parent. Funny enough, that's not even the problem I'm in.
I have 3 horses and a flock of sheep, and I just had my first ever lambs, one I'm bottle feeding. I am so protective over all my animals which is a very well known fact about me. For example, I live where winters can get well below freezing and I have to haul water by hand for all of them daily. I do the daily chores, pay for their needs and everything. My new sister in law has been sneaking around my horses, telling people about them and inviting them over to "meet them" like they belong to her. She's also been sending her kids in to play with the bottle baby, pick him up and whatever else, specifically when I'm not home. I have asked them before to not do this, and if they want to spend time with them, they need to ask me otherwise it's dangerous and can put both them and the animals at risk, and that its a standard boundary for horse owners. I've only been met with anger, gaslighting and backlash. She has also been very judgemental and makes degrading remarks.
A week ago, she took a video of one of the lambs and posted it all around, didn't ask or tell me about it and it was the final straw. I asked around to other friends and family if i should ask her to take it down and they said it wouldnt hurt to try and they can understand that I feel used. I asked a couple days ago for her, nicely, to take it down only on Tiktok mostly because the hard work I've done and the hardships I've gone through makes it feel like a slap in the face that she'd try and get tiktok views out of it. I didn't complain about anywhere else, i specified Tiktok since I can get over it being on FB for friends and family, although I would have prefered her ask or tag me. She gave me the nastiest passive aggressive response, how she thought sending me the video first meant I could post it too (i dont understand that logic if someone could explain that to me) and she didnt even know i was on tiktok.
Since, she's been rallying the rest of the family against me and making awful claims on her FB and just being petty. This morning, she made a super vague and cryptic one that says "people keep her under thumb and keep control of her life." I do try my hardest to be understanding and avoid being unreasonable, and i have kept my mouth shut about tons of things that upset me just to keep peace and avoid conflict, but trying to get views from the fruits of my labour bothered me so much.
I understand she took the video and strangers could do the same, plus its only a video but its different to me when a family member does it. A part of me feels like I'm overreacting, but another feels like speaking up now can prevent problems in the future. AITA?

2024.05.02 00:20 peachy_skeen AITA for asking SIL to take down tiktok of my animals

TL;DR I asked a family member to not post videos of my animals on Tiktok and it caused a lot of backlash
I (22f) live on my family farm and recently my brother (32m) divorced his wife and got remarried and moved back to the farm in a 5th wheel. Legally speaking, he has no claim to the place, its only me and one parent, but demanded his "inheritance" and thinks he still gets to come in making demands and asking for money for his new wife (33f). Funny enough, that's not even the problem I'm in.
I have 3 horses and a flock of sheep that I would die for, and I just had my first ever lambs, one I'm bottle feeding. I am so protective over all my animals which is a very well known fact that usually gets paired with my general reputation. For example, I live where winters can get well below freezing and I have to haul water by hand for all of them daily if not more. I have asked them before to not do this, and if they want to spend time with them, they need to ask me otherwise it's dangerous and can put both them and the animals at risk, and that its a standard boundary for horse owners especially. I've only been met with anger, gaslighting and backlash.
A week ago, she took a video of one of the lambs and posted it all around, didn't ask or tell me about it and it was the final straw. I asked around to other friends and family if i should ask her to take it down and they said it wouldnt hurt to try and they can understand that I feel used. Since, she's been rallying the rest of the family against me and making awful claims on her FB and just being petty. This morning, she made a super vague and cryptic one that says "people keep her under thumb and keep control of her life." Ever since she's moved here, they've trashed the place, including where I have my first horse and my dog buried, which were marked with names and dates and somehow the stones up and disappeared. When said dog had to be put down, she freaked at me that I didn't invite her and her kids to the euthanasia, so she knows well that the dog is buried there. I do try my hardest to be understanding and avoid being unreasonable, and i have kept my mouth shut about tons of things that upset me just to keep peace and avoid conflict, but trying to get Tiktok views from the fruits of my labour bothered me so much.

2024.05.02 00:07 DesperateD4N2912 Complete sim racing beginner

Hi all so I’ll be honest I’ve never particularly been a car guy, my extent of interest led only as far as liking top gear and thinking the r8 was gorgeous, other than that I honestly couldn’t care. That was until a couple months ago I got into f1. Long story short I’m completely hooked and as a result have really been enjoying the f1 23 game on a controller. However more for immersion reasons than wanting to be supremely competitive I’m looking into buying a wheel and all the necessary items with it (pedals etc) but can’t lie I have no idea where to start. Budget will be anywhere from £200-£600. Preferably lower as like I say I just want to make career mode more immersive and fun and am not looking to be competitive online or anything however don’t mind spending more money if a little more money means a big increase in quality. Any ideas on setups will be hugely appreciated, thankyou in advance

2024.05.01 23:51 Arkansas_BusDriver Tv volume and sound bar

Hello, We have a Jensen tv mounted in our 5th wheel. The issue is that when the AC is on, we cannot hear the tv, even at full volume. So we are looking into getting a soundbar for the tv. I wanted to ask yall if the Jensen tv's will take a soundbar and if yall have any suggestions for one? Thank you.

Maureen Puddy's close encounter in Victoria, Australia, 1972

On 5 July 1972, 27-year-old Maureen Puddy saw a ufo on the Alooraduc Road near Frankston, in Victoria, Australia. The object was a huge blue disc, which hovered above, her car as she returned from visiting her son in hospital. Twenty days later, at almost the same spot, it returned. This time it seemed to drain power from the car, causing it to stop; indeed, the car appeared to steer itself to the roadside. A voice in her head told her, 'All your tests will be negative.' It then said: 'Tell media, do not panic. We mean no harm..'
These encounters occurred in 1972, but were never written up in our publications until the 1983 "Review". Maureen addressed one of our quarterly meetings in 1995 and was attentively accepted. It has been said by some 'researchers', who have never even met her, that her case was an 'abduction', but to Paul Norman and myself with whom she spoke at length, it would have been more like a form of mind control or hypnosis. Maureen had three odd experiences, all in 1972 and documented faithfully by VUFORS, but unfortunately not always by others.
Her story starts with a visit to the Royal Childrens' Hospital in Melbourne, where her son had been taken after an accident at school when a cupboard had fallen on him and broken his leg. He had been taken to the hospital by the "Angel of Mercy" Helicopter Air Ambulance Service.
While driving home from a visit to the boy on the 5th July, 1972, she called in at her mother's home for a cup of tea and a chat, leaving there at about 9.15 p.m., taking the shortcut along the Mooraduc Road from Frankston.
On this occasion, she saw a blue light reflected down over the car and thought it was the helicopter flying overhead, and may be trying to get a message to her, although how they could tell her car in the dark had not occurred to her, so thought she had better stop and see what they wanted. She had not bargained on what confronted her. A large circular object, like two saucers placed together, with one upside down - the usual "saucer" shape. The object was possibly, in her estimating, two telephone poles high, and would have spanned the strip of road 24 feet wide, also taking in the 'nature strip' on either side of the road, making the 'saucer' approximately 100 feet across.
Having already alighted from the car, she leaned back against it, took a long look at the object and wondered what it was she was seeing. The object's surface was smooth with no joins, welds, seams or rivets, no doors, windows or portholes and no wheels. The huge object was radiating a brilliant blue light all around - an intense glow - there was no movement, no wobbling or rotating, but a faint humming could be heard.
She must have noted all these things while wondering what sort of aircraft it was and before fear took over; at which time she quickly got back into her car and drove off as fast as she could, only to find the object was maintaining its position just above and behind the car. No matter how fast she travelled, the object seemed to remain at the same distance.
Aware that the blue light was no longer with her, and seeing a very bright light streaking off in the opposite direction, Mrs. Puddy realised the chase must be over. It had followed her for about eight miles!
The witness reported her sighting to the Police at Dromana, some family members and also some friends, who considered it all a bit of a joke, so she decided to say no more about it............. until about three weeks later.
Then on Tuesday 25th July, 1972, after having visited her son again, she followed a similar routine, a 'cuppa' with her mother enroute home, and left at almost the same time, about 9.15 p.m.
Maureen arrived at the Mooraduc Road, travelled on a short distance of about one mile, when the blue light appeared over her car once more. "Oh no! Not again!" she thought. "This time I'm not going to stop". She grabbed the steering wheel more determinedly and put her foot flat to the floor, but the car just drifted to a stop on the side of the road. No matter what she did the Holden would not reply to her demands. She was wondering "where do I go from here". Terrified, she gripped the wheel and looked out the windscreen to see the object hanging silently in the air above her car, the countryside bathed in blue light. Then a voice spoke to her, not audibly but in her head she said, as if words had been put into a computer and come out in the most beautifully modulated voice and perfect English she had ever heard. During this time she experienced a most unusual sensation. She said that 'if you could be in a vacuum' then she had been - Perfectly silent and still.
The message was: - "Don't be afraid ... we mean you no harm…..your tests will be negative ... tell the Media (longer pause) you are now in control".
At that moment the car started up again as if she had turned the key. She sat there for a moment or two, then drove off as fast as she could.
She stopped at the same police station only to find it closed, then went to the next, still on her way home. She told the officer, "I want to make a report of a sighting of a flying saucer", "Oh yes, Madam", came the reply. She insisted, in fear and frustration, so the policeman humoured her and she had it recorded.
Next morning she 'phoned Laverton R.A.A.F. Station to ask if they could offer any explanation of what she had seen, to which they replied that it could not have been an aircraft or balloon as neither would have been in the area at the time; but don't say anything as it could cause panic. They would send her a questionnaire to complete, but when later asked about this told me, "you'd have to be an astronaut to understand it", and I believe she did not bother to return it.
Naturally, we questioned Maureen regarding her experience in the car. What did the messages mean? She said she had not had any recent tests done, but some about six months ago proved negative. There was no use telling her not to be afraid, she was terrified! As for telling the media: she 'phoned three of the four T.V. stations. One was mildly interested since they were showing "Chariots of the Gods". Two made light of her news, so she did not bother to contact the fourth. I heard through a radio talk-back program, which in desperation, she had contacted, because the UFO-nauts had said to contact the media and she did not want to see them again!!
At this stage I had not actually met Maureen, only spoken to her on the phone - for one hour - but when I invited her to address one of our meetings at the National Mutual Theatrette, she agreed, and kept the full-house spell-bound for about two hours. The hall was crowded, there were even people in the lobby listening through the speaker system - thoroughly fascinated!
During the question period that night, Mrs. Puddy was really 'put through her paces'. "Did she think what she saw was a psychic phenomenon?" "Did she suffer any burns or after effects?" To both these questions she answered "No". "Did she think there were any other witnesses?" She thought there must have been one at least, because as she was approaching a railway crossing, she saw a man with a torch, leading a cow up one of the side roads. Surely the UFO must have passed very close to him, but would have been going in the same direction. Later the man's wife contacted her and also a lady living on a ridge, not far from the highway, - both had seen the light!
The third experience, which was purely psychic, occurred about six months later.
One Wednesday, I received a 'phone call from a rather agitated Maureen Puddy, who said she had been trying contact VUFORS. Her story goes:
For some days she had been hearing a voice calling to her to "return to the meeting place". Believing she heard someone calling her name at the front door, she went to open it and her husband, who was an invalid in a wheel-chair, asked who it was, but there was no-one there! When she went shopping, she heard "Maureen, Maureen, return to the meeting place", and she looked around to find there was no one near. She felt she had to go to the meeting place but she was too scared to go alone, so I told her that Paul Norman and I would be available when she wished to go. With very little gentle persuasion she agreed to go that Wednesday evening.
Paul fuelled his car while I prepared a hot drink and some supper, for we didn't know whether or not we would be just sitting for most of the night and we would require some 'fuel' to keep us warm even though it was supposed to be summer.
I need not have been so apprehensive because the UFO-nauts had our evening all worked out for us. I had, over the 'phone to Maureen, described Paul's car and told her where we would meet her, opposite the electricity sub-station, where the road widens, at about 8.30 ~ 9 p.m. We were early and it was not yet dark so we could see Maureen's Holden station wagon when she arrived. She got out of her car and ran towards us saying she nearly "went off the road back there". I suggested she tell me about it as we drove to the meeting place.
Before going further I should perhaps add, that as I entered her car, I had the odd feeling that something was amiss, I was experiencing a tingling sensation (like that of a mild electric shock), which passed off quite quickly. Maureen then told me that in the centre of the front seat, between where the two of us sat, had appeared an entity completely clad in a type of gold foil suit. As she turned to look in his direction, she was so startled she almost ran off the road, It was quite obvious she was quite shocked by the eventful drive...
By this time we had reached the 'meeting place which was somewhat hidden from passing traffic by a few trees. We drew to a stop and Paul came to sit in the back seat of the station wagon while I stayed in the front with Maureen.
We were talking about the latest incident along the road, when suddenly, she grabbed my arm and pointed across her car, exclaiming: "There he is! Can't you see him?" and she shook my arm saying that I must be able to - I tried to explain to her that it was like closed circuit television - from him to her.
She said he was coming closer to the car, in fact, so close that if I put my arm out I could possibly touch him. He was now standing almost beside the front headlight, so I asked Paul to take a little walk around the car. As he came to where the entity was standing, the entity moved back to allow Paul to pass between him and the car. At this point the entity beckoned to Maureen to follow him, but she adamantly declared that she would not. I told her I'd go with her and tried to gently ease her out the car door, but she hung onto the steering wheel and would not budge.
The entity then became impatient when she would not follow and she became a trifle upset, He apparently disappeared behind bushes and she suddenly commenced describing the interior of the UFO. She told us that the entity was standing there pointing to a large "mushroom" like object in the centre of a large circular room. The centre object, which was taller than an average person, was a little like jelly, moving all the time; there were lines like those of Roman numerals around the lower portion. The top of the "mushroom" had lines on it and the whole thing seemed fixed to the floor. She was apparently looking around the room and became very agitated at this point, crying, "I can't get out! There are no doors or windows. I can't get out!" I put my arm around her shoulders in an attempt to calm her, and could feel tears on my hand. She was really upset and as I clearly visualised what Maureen was describing, I decided to direct my thoughts to the entity; nothing to lose and maybe something to gain - as I was very concerned about Maureen's state, I felt she may have had a nervous collapse or even a stroke. I silently requested he take pity on the poor girl and suddenly she said, "he wants me to close my eyes". I replied that she should do so and almost immediately I felt her relax as if in a trance.
Again she began to describe the interior of the object and once again became agitated when she could see no way out of the vehicle. After a brief period she "came back to us" and we switched on the car's interior lights and asked if she would care for a cup of tea from our thermos flask. I had just handed Maureen her cup when she said, "Oh, I'm back in there again", and repeated the description, but this time somewhat more calmly, before stating, "he's gone. This time he's really gone. I can tell. It feels different".
She now seemed quite normal, so we went on with our supper, discussing the "mushroom" and trying to identify it. I asked if it could have been a gyroscope, but Maureen was not apparently familiar with that term so "compass" was suggested. She picked off a little gadget from the dashboard of her car and to my amazement it was exactly what I had envisaged from her description of the "mushroom. A small compass on a suction cup. I had not seen one before or since.
We did not dare let her drive home alone, nor did she wish it, in case of a return visit from our 'friend', or nerves on her part. I drove in her car with her and Paul followed in his car. I believe it was between 10.30 and 11.00p.m. when we arrived at her home which was quite some distance away. We did not take particular note of the time, but it was fairly late.

2024.05.01 23:07 15GOAT 15GOAT’s Post-Draft Analysis 2024

Holy shit who let AP cook? I’m in LOVE with what he did in the draft and that’s why I wanted to take the time to make this post. It’s a lengthy one, but I put some effort into all of this so I hope you enjoy. I also picked out my favorite comparisons I’ve heard from analysts, scouts, and coaches. I’ll address some rankings/grades super quick…
Why is your big board a Washington (WSH) specific big board?
I don’t do scouting professionally, at least I’m not getting paid for that, so I exclusively watch tape to my own benefit… aka watching to see who would be a great fit on our team. This presents challenges with trying to appropriately rank players that aren’t deemed an immediate team need. You’ll see instances of this below with players like Johnny. While I viewed him as a top 15-20 player in this draft and an elite 1st round talent, he wasn’t in my top-32 on my WSH big board due to team needs being weighed heavily. This board was fairly fluid and being tweaked daily throughout the draft process as I digested more footage or information about prospects
15GOAT’s Prospect Grading Scale: 0-8
8 = Generational, can’t miss, franchise cornerstone
7-7.99 = Exceptional talent, future of the franchise
6-6.99 = Great talent, day 1 starter
5-5.99 = Above average talent, will be a starter early on in their career
4-4.99 = Good talent, specific skillset that should translate, high upside, should be a starter at some point
3-3.99 = Average talent, really needs time to develop, high quality backup with potential to crack a starting lineup in the future
2-2.99 = The potential is there, still very raw, struggling is expected, odds against them to be career backup
1-1.99 = Good camp body, has a sliver of potential to make the 53 if they put in the work, practice squad candidate
0-0.99 = Won’t make it past camp
LET’S RAISE HAIL

Round 1 Pick 2 – Jayden Daniels, QB LSU

WSH Big Board Rank: 2
Position Rank: QB #2
Prospect Grade: 7.31 / 8
Brief Analysis: I planted my flag in the JD5 camp back in the beginning of January as soon as we were locked into the 2nd overall pick. I watched all the tape for him, Caleb, and Maye at the time. I was immediately enamored with his poise and explosive playmaking. His quick processing ability, maneuverability inside and out of the pocket, the way he feeds the ball (not force fed), his sturdy footwork, effortless yet gorgeous throwing motion, the gentle touch he leaves on the ball, his anticipation for key playmakers on designed routes, that phenomenal deep ball placement, all of it just really had me drooling at the idea of us drafting him. I was reserved in expressing on here how much I really wanted him because of the nasty responses I started getting from Drake Maye fans lmao. He has insane ball carrier vision once he takes off, and the wheels to carry him past even some of the best defenders, but he does need to learn how to properly slide and protect himself. He does not have the strongest arm, but he has above average arm strength and phenomenal accuracy that is more than adequate to allow him success in this league for over a decade. What I like most is that all he does is compete, lay it all on the line, does his damn best to win, and get better as he goes. He was QB1 on his high school varsity team his freshman year, he was a dominant true freshman after being a top recruit, and he obliterated some of the best competition on his way to becoming the most recent Heisman winner. This kid has me so fucking excited about our future
Favorite Pro Comp: Randall Cunningham

Round 2 Pick 36 – Jer’Zhan Newton, DT Illinois

WSH Big Board Rank: 33
Position Rank: IDL #1
Prospect Grade: 6.98 / 8
Brief Analysis: Johnny should not have been there in the 2nd, and especially not at 36 after teams had 24 hours to realize they let him fall. Thicc and twitchy. He plays quickly and violently. You can tell he has such a deep understanding of his role by the way he times out snaps and beats his blocks. He’s better in the pass rush, which isn’t saying much because he’s still fairly dominant in the run game. The only knock really is his size, but I’m telling you he's still bully and this is a guy that will force double teams once he gets acclimated in his role with our defense
Favorite Pro Comp: Justin Madubuike

Round 2 Pick 50 – Mike Sainristil, CB Michigan

WSH Big Board Rank: 49
Position Rank: CB #8 / NCB #1
Prospect Grade: 6.05 / 8
Brief Analysis: There’s no quit in this kid. My favorite word I’ve heard used for him is “scrappy” because that’s the reality of it. He gets underestimated due to his height, and he will 100% make you pay for it. His energy is unmatched and his awareness is elite as he sticks with his assignment, be it man or zone, and maintains focus on the QB. Great lateral movement and he is a pro with his pedaling. He’s explosive and patient with his pounce, which is why he hasn’t been penalized once. It’s also why he is excellent when being sent on the blitz. While I know we need outside corner help, his value at 50 was too good to pass on. Kids got bounce, great instincts, and plays with a crazy motor. I really think if he was even just 1” taller, there’s no doubt he would’ve been taken in the 1st
Favorite Pro Comp: Kenny Moore II

Round 2 Pick 53 – Ben Sinnott, TE Kansas State

WSH Big Board Rank: 55
Position Rank: TE #2
Prospect Grade: 6.12 / 8
Brief Analysis: My favorite pick in this draft. I’ve been captivated by his game for a while, and the combine sold me. He separated himself from the other TEs there and showed he can be a dominant. An uber athletic, big-bodied TE that can lay the meanest block while also being able to run some sexy routes. His ability to contort for the catch doesn’t seem physically possible at times. AP said it best when saying he reminds him of the best of Juice and Kittle. His versatility to be an every down TE is huge and something we’ve been desperate for since Jordan Reed’s healthy days. Let him get a step on a defender and he’ll get open for JD. Put the ball in his hands and he'll bulldoze his way forward for additional yards. Put the ball behind him and he’ll lead a violent pathway. I cannot wait to see him learn from Ertz and take over in this offense
Favorite Pro Comp: Heath Miller

Round 3 Pick 67 – Brandon Coleman, OT TCU

WSH Big Board Rank: 110
Position Rank: OT #14 / OG #9
Prospect Grade: 5.59 / 8
Brief Analysis: I admittedly didn’t watch tape on him before the draft, rather just some highlights, because I really thought we’d be addressing the OL earlier than I anticipated him going. He still was someone I liked enough because of his technique, explosiveness, and dominant hands. I assumed he’d kick inside as I do anytime I see someone under 6’5” or with short arms (he doesn’t have short arms). I watched more after the draft and I wish I had him higher on my board honestly. This is a dangerous man and I see him winning a starting bookend job this season. In 4 years, he has allowed only 2 sacks. His best year at TCU was the year they let him ride it out on the blindside. He’s aggressive until that whistle blows and that’s the energy we need for protecting JD
Favorite Pro Comp: D.J. Humphries

Round 3 Pick 100 – Luke McCaffrey, WR Rice

WSH Big Board Rank: 103
Position Rank: WR #18 / SLWR #3
Prospect Grade: 4.93 / 8
Brief Analysis: So many talking heads are in love with this pick which just gets me even more pumped up. Obviously he has had all the tools to succeed up until this point, and now he has the opportunity to do what his dad did and what his brother is currently doing. His route running improved each game, and his ability to separate continued to get better. His burst is disgusting and a big reason why he’ll succeed in the slot. His hands are sticky and he’s great at tracking the ball to secure the catch. He could be our YAC king the way he abuses his insane acceleration and shiftiness. He also is a former QB and that gives us flexibility to cook up crazy shit. I think this was a beautiful selection for our presumed scheme with Kliff
Favorite Pro Comp: Puka Nacua

Round 5 Pick 139 – Jordan Magee, LB Temple

WSH Big Board Rank: 126
Position Rank: MLB #7
Prospect Grade: 4.00 / 8
Brief Analysis: Loved this pick. With the additions of Wagner and Luvu, plus with Jamin on the roster, this is a recipe for setting ourselves up for success. A speed demon MIKE with great instincts that was written off due to his school, height, and recent injury (bicep). With solid coaching and mentoring, I see him being a guy that could earn a starting role here in the coming years. He was PFF’s 4th highest graded draft eligible LB (10th overall) with 6 sacks and 11 total pressures on 32 pass rush attempts, 2 PBUs, and 0 TDs allowed this year. A tremendous amount of upside with this pick which is more than you can ask for in the 5th
Favorite Pro Comp: Quincy Williams

Round 5 Pick 161 – Dominique Hampton, S Washington

WSH Big Board Rank: 177
Position Rank: SS #8
Prospect Grade: 3.68 / 8
Brief Analysis: This kid is a freak! I didn’t watch much on him specifically since there were so many Washington prospects, but goddamn he might as well have been built in a lab. He is raw and really needs time to develop, but this is a low-risk high reward draft pick if I’ve ever seen one. He can line up just about anywhere, but I imagine we’ll work him into a backup SS role while he brings his talent to special teams. At 6’2”, 10” hands, and a 6’7” wingspan while having 4.51 speed, he can cover the field well. He improved a lot in coverage this past year, but he really needs to tidy up his tackling. At 161 this was an extremely solid pick
Favorite Pro Comp: Terrell Edmunds

Round 7 Pick 222 – Javontae Jean-Baptiste, DE Notre Dame

WSH Big Board Rank: 209
Position Rank: EDGE #23
Prospect Grade: 2.74 / 8
Brief Analysis: This pick was easy to predict since he had a top-30 visit that seemingly went well. We hadn’t addressed edge in the draft yet, and with AP being a high RAS sniper, JJB was not safe on opponents draft boards. Great measurables outside of his weight, but there are expectations that he’ll bulk up. He’s very quick off the snap, great at tracking the ball, and is athletic enough to win off his speed alone. He is still raw and needs development time for improving his technique. He has plenty of potential for this to be deemed a nice selection in the 7th
Favorite Pro Comp: Jeremiah Attaochu

2024.05.01 22:56 FAVooDoo Sram AXS setup.

Need some advice on a AXS settings.
Almost sure what the problem is, just want more insight on the situation.
I have a good wheel with a HG free hub, it's a little old and couldn't find a XD free hub, the store, a Specialized dealer offered me to machine the free hub.
Service is done, installed a GX cassete, follow the manual to setup, everything by the manual (already done that before) and my gears are not working as it should. Some will say obviously, I know.
If I set the micro adjust for the smallest cogs, it will go all the way to the 9th cog and the chain will scratch the cog trying to upshift to the 42 cog, and if I start from the 52 it will scratch on the smallest cogs. Can't get both, it as 5 micro adjust at the small cogs and 14 for the big ones.
Had this setup with same wheel and same GX derailleur on a NX cassete and was working perfectly.
One this that Im pretty sure was that my straight chain line was on the 5th cog, now it on the 6th.
That probably indicate that the frehub is way off.

2024.05.01 21:02 Naltrex Looking for easy-going, history and meta knowledgeable player(s) for ~4-6 player series

Hello there! We are looking to host another ~4-6 player progression series, where we have a round-robin tournament for each release. I have the structure organized and will have the timeline for your review. We've ran two of these previously, and it was a ton of fun when active.
It's important to realize that these can be a big commitment! Depending on what you include, there are a couple hundred released in YGO histroy, and even doing 2 per week, that is 2 YEARS to complete. That's a long time, and naturally we all might go through losing streaks and a busy real life.
Be sure that you can try your best to win, but always having fun is critical - even when it's hard! An easy-going attitude, creativity to deck build, and a knowledge of the history of YGO is definitely required.
Because of the time we will potentially be playing together, voice chat and English fluency is also required.
Time and place: -I am located in UTC -4:00, and flexibly available to play most days. Ideally players are in similar time zones, and have jobs / lives that allow them to play fairly freely. -We will have a discord server for communication and information.
Some Details:
-Play will be done on YGO Omega for automation. We don't want to have illegal misplays to decide games, or to be bogged down with ruling issues that come later with increased complexity.
-Openings will be done live and publicly via screen sharing. This does have negatives, but given that you will be playing multiple opponents, the benefit of eliminating any suspicion of cheating is absolutely worth it.
-Master Rule 2 is used until Starter Deck 2014, Master Rule 3 is used until Starter Deck 2017, then Master Rule 5 onward.
-Card drafts will be done on YGOProDeck or YGOprog, and I'd recommend managing your collection there as well.
Sets:
-Core and major reprint sets will draft ~24 packs (depending on pack size) to be added collections. We then build a deck from our entire pools, and have a round-robin tournament.
-Starter / Structure Decks have been paired and converted into booster packs on YGOProDeck that we will open and add like other sets.
-Battle packs, and possibly larger reprint sets will be sealed drafts.
-Re-rolls are available. We start with 3 and gain an additional 1 each in-game year.
Trading:
-Trading is allowed, AFTER each format. You must stick with your pulls for a given format, but can trade them after the format is over.
-Trades must be posted publicly in the trade announcement channel. I would also encourage negotiation / ISO to be done publicly to try to keep social fairness.
Forbidden list:
-We will grow our own list rather than following the official one. It will be kept pinned in the banlist channel for easy access.
-Each format will causes changes, with each player selecting cards:
Last place: 1x Forbidden
2nd-last: 1x Limit
3rd-last: 1x semi-limit, depending on
-Note that this is will start with the semi-limit, and be bi-directional. For example, one could put a banned card back to 2.
-If a card remains semi-limited for a full in-game year, it will be returned to unlimited.
-There is also an annual vote for list adjustments. Each in-game year, players will privately send a list of 3 cards to each ban, limit, and remove from the list.
Winnings: Determined after each tournament (example for 6 players):
6th: 1x Tournament Pack + 1x most recent release
5th: 2x Tournament Pack + 1x most recent release
4th: 2x Tournament Pack + 2x most recent core release
3rd: 3x Tournament Pack + 2x most recent core release
2nd: 3x Tournament Pack + 3x most recent core release
1st: 4x Tournament Pack + 4x most recent core release, or Winner's Wheel:
==Set Release, each at 1/10: 4x Tournament Pack + 4x most recent core release,
Set Common
Set Rare
Set Super Rare
Set Ultra / Ultimate Rare
Set Secret / Ghost Rare
Set Wild Card
Ban Token
Re-roll Token
Card Duplication Token
Annual winner:
-Each format will award points, 3 for 1st, 2 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd.
-The player who accumulates the most points each in-game year will choose 1 wild card from any of that years' releases. Second place will receive 2x of any 1 set from that year.
Format Play Structure:
-Each player is expected to play matches against each other opponent.
-Track your game and match results in the Match Results channel.
-We aim to do ~2 formats per week. Hopefully some will be done quicker, if we can find times where we are all available.
-Erratas: Cards will be played with their pre-errata forms (until the errata takes place). It is the player's own responsibility to make sure they are using the correct one (it's usually to your detriment to forget).
-Decks cannot be changed within a format. Once you build it, you are locked in until the next set / deck.
-Upon completion, please post a screenshot of your deck for others to review.
-1st tiebreaker: head to head match result
-2nd tiebreaker: most game wins
-3rd tiebreaker: fewest game loses
