2024.05.18 21:19 nsfwtttt Non-attractions stuff with kids?

When my wife and I used to visit Paris, we would just walk for hours.
Looking back, our best memories are not from the Louvre or the Eiffel but from just random points, in a beautiful street or on a beautiful bridge.
It’s been a while and we’re taking our children (8 & 6) for the first time.
We want them to experience the Paris we loved, but they can’t walk for hours until we find a random spot :-)
Any suggestions of place to just hang out? Not a museum, not a kids activity, not a tourist packed attraction… just somewhere we can sit, look at the Eiffel from a distance or some other beautiful view, and have a crepe or ice cream and relax? :-)
We’d find a nice cafe or restaurant that looked good. Did some attractions

2024.05.18 20:30 roseohseven Long first time trip report 5/13-5/18!

LOOOONG first time trip report! 5/13-5/18, stayed at Beach Club, visited all four parks, bought Genie+ every day, had the standard DDP. Family of 4, two girls 5 and 9. I learned so much from this group over the past year and especially loved trip reports, so hopefully this post will be helpful to someone!
💲BUDGET💲
-- I booked the trip a year out so I could break it up into 12 manageable payments. I opened the no fee Disney VISA, which gives you several months of no interest on charges made towards Disney travel packages, rewards dollars to use at Disney, and a couple other perks like character meet and greets and discounts.
-- I signed up for Disney Movie Insiders. This is what you're supposed to do with all those little codes that come in Disney DVDs/Blurays. You enter the codes in exchange for points, and at 1000 points, you can redeem for a $10 Disney gift card. You also get points for being subscribed to Disney+, seeing Disney movies in the theater, their social media accounts, and a whole bunch of other things. I got $50 in gift cards from this alone.
-- If you want Disney-themed luggage, try thinking outside the box to save money! I got plain luggage in Mickey colors--red and black--and Mickey luggage tags to make them Disney themed.
-- I tried to budget for souvenirs via gift cards... but I failed, lol. Everything is so expensive, $100 is gone in a second. Plushes are like $40, coffee cups are $20, etc. Whatever you're planning to spend, double it! I get what people say about most shops having the same stuff, but it's definitely not all of them, most of the ones post-ride have unique stuff. And honestly it's kind of nice most of them have the same stuff, if you want to get whatever your kid was asking for earlier, you don't have to walk all the way back to the one shop you saw it at.
-- We paid for Memory Maker and I'm on the fence about it. On the one hand, it's really nice to get all the ride photos and meet and greet photos and magic shots. It's also really nice for the whole family to be in a lot of pictures and not have to swap with the other adult or find someone willing to take your picture. On the other, we definitely didn't utilize it as much as I wanted to because a lot of the photographers had pretty long lines and I just didn't want to spend time waiting for a picture I could take myself. If we came across someone with a shortish or no line, we made sure to get it, but for anyone with a long line, we just stood around the same spot and took our own.
🗓️PLANNING🗓️
-- If you have kids and live within easy driving distance of another amusement park, highly recommend making a visit BEFORE going to Disney to get an idea of how they handle that kind of day/environment, especially if they have never been. I quickly discovered we would absolutely need a stroller and I would need to be militant with the kids about staying hydrated. Also to avoid face paint, as heat + tears + paint + eyes = bad day! I felt so much better making these discoveries beforehand and being able to prepare accordingly, rather than making them at Disney.
-- USE AN AGENT! An agent is free to you, so why not have the help? Ours was amazing, she gave us quotes, booked the package, rebooked as needed later when a better deal came out, made all the payments, dining and extra reservations, and was just all-around awesome to work with. It was such a load off to know I wasn't on my own with all this stuff.
-- Watch everything Ear Scouts. No one explains Genie+ better, and Rob and Erick's videos are just so positive and beautiful and well done.
-- I also enjoyed reading Disney Tourist Blog--lovingly snarky but super informative!--and Disney Food Blog for fun tips and news.
-- I didn't find any park to be a half day park, we filled our whole day in every one and still didn't see everything!
-- My kids did really well, whenever they were on the verge of cranky, we had one ride in the stroller for a while, bought a snack (usually ice cream or popcorn), and used the bubble wand, and/or gave them some ibuprofen, and everyone felt better pretty quick. We never tried to do fireworks, we were all done by 8 so always left after dinner. The only park we closed down was EPCOT because we didn't get out of dinner until after close, and that was a really cool experience, the park was so quiet and empty and beautiful!
-- You don't NEED a Magic Band... but man, was it convenient. We just had 1.0 Magic Bands though, we didn't bother with the 2.0s.
-- I guess moving through security fast is important to people rope dropping... but as someone who didn't, it added like maybe 30 seconds to a minute to the experience the couple times my bag got flagged, it's really not a big deal.
-- I'm not saying anyone's lying about bad experiences or exaggerating or anything, but try to remember that far more people go on the Internet to complain than they do to praise. I got so stressed about all the things that could go wrong, and we had a pretty much perfect trip. The only attraction that broke down on us was Muppetvision, of all things. The only "bad behavior" we witnessed was the morning we were leaving, we could hear a dad across the hall yelling at his family, I think they overslept and were going to miss their flight or something? We just turned the TV on so we didn't have to hear him. A couple times we forgot to take our stuff with us when we parked our stroller or forgot some food in it, and neither people nor animals bothered it. The only dicey thing that happened to us was me dropping my phone into the Dumbo moat, the cast members fished it out and it still worked, I sent them a cast compliment for all their help! All the cast members were great, I'm not really sure what people expect but IMO they all do amazing for having to be peppy and helpful all day in absolutely blazing heat, walking a ride conveyer belt nonstop, repeating the same spiels over and over, meeting person after person, etc. I wouldn't last a 2 hour shift let alone 8. Cast members, you rock!!!
✈️TRAVEL✈️
-- We flew Delta, flight there was flawless, flight home was delayed by an hour waiting for crew and was a little bumpy (which is not great for a nervous flyer like me) but otherwise fine.
-- Get TSA PreCheck! Good for a few years, if the adults have it the kids have it too. It made the whole experience so much easier. That said, even PreCheck still moves kind of slow at MCO, so definitely get there at least 2 hours early for your flight. Use curbside check-in for bags, way faster than the long line inside!
-- On our agent's recommendation, we used Away We Go for ground transport in Orlando. They communicate really well, both ways were flawless, no complaints!
-- We used Minnie Vans to get to Animal Kingdom + Sanaa and Magic Kingdom, what a wonderful service! Definitely pricey, but they had cartoons on in the car, booster seats they set up for you, and the drivers were so nice and friendly and had fun trivia to share. I never had any problem requesting one when I needed it.
⛱️BEACH CLUB⛱️
-- We knew we wanted an onsite hotel where you could walk to at least one park. This pretty much limits you to a handful of Deluxe hotels or the Swan and Dolphin. Beach Club won for us because it's "in the Disney bubble" and you can walk to 2/4 parks. Note that while you can technically walk to Hollywood Studios, it is a LOOOONG walk. The boat is a nice not crowded alternative! We did not make use of Early Entry or Extended Hours, we're just not built for either. Beach Club was lovely, we booked a resort view but I think we ended up with a water view, we were right by the quiet pool and could see the water beyond from our room. Stormalong Bay was a little crazy for us but we loved the quiet pool. Best thing about Beach Club though is the location, EPCOT is literally steps away!
🌳ANIMAL KINGDOM🌳
-- We had read that there's really no bad day to do AK, so we started there. We rode: Navi River Journey, Flight of Passage, Kali River Rapids, Everest, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Triceratops Spin, and Dinosaur--so pretty much everything! With Genie+ we walked onto all of them. We also met Moana, Pocahontas, and Russell! The only thing we didn't do here that we wanted to was the Gorilla Falls trail, but we just ran out of time before the park closed.
🌐EPCOT🌐
-- We had read to avoid EPCOT on Fridays and Saturdays, so we went on Wednesday. We rode: Grand Fiesta Tour, Living with the Land, Nemo, Spaceship Earth, Imagination with Figment, Frozen, Remy, Journey of Water, and Guardians--everything we wanted! Again, with Genie+, we walked right onto everything! We also met Anna and Elsa! Tried a couple of Flower and Garden snacks: chicken and waffles, fruit and cheese strudel, and potato pancakes, all were delicious! Everyone had a different favorite day, but EPCOT was personally my favorite day, it felt like we were firing on all cylinders and the day just went really smoothly!
🏰MAGIC KINGDOM🏰
-- We had read that Wednesdays were the quietest days at MK, so we were originally going to try to do it that day, but we could only get a reservation for Cinderella's Royal Table on Thursday, so we switched it up. Definitely the most crowded of all the parks we visited, but I think that's just the norm for MK, everyone wants to go to the castle park with the most rides. We rode: Regal Carousel, Tomorrowland Speedway, Barnstormer, Magic Carpets, Mad Tea Party, People Mover, Dumbo, Small World, Little Mermaid, Pirates, Space Ranger Spin, Jungle Cruise, TRON, and Peter Pan. Again, with Genie+, we walked right onto everything! The only ride we missed at this park that we wanted to do was Pooh, I couldn't manage to get a return time that was earlier than we planned on leaving. Outside of our character meals (more on those in the dining section!) we also met Mirabel, Tiana, and Rapunzel! We had both the Rapunzel and Aurora ice creams, both so good and cute!
🎬HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS🎬
-- We had read that, like MK, it's better to do HS later in the week, so we went Friday. We rode: Slinky, Alien Saucers, Toy Story Mania, Rise, Smuggler's Run, Runaway Railway. Again, with Genie+, we walked right onto everything! The only ride we missed was Tower of Terror, again I couldn't manage to get a return time that was earlier than we planned on leaving. We also met Olaf, be aware Olaf doesn't sign stuff, they just give you a signature card. This park needs more shade IMO, especially Toy Story Land, I know it's supposed to be Andy's backyard, but I don't see why that means we can't have some shade from trees or something. 🤪 Blue milk from Galaxy's Edge was really good, the family was all fighting over it!
🍽️DINING🍽️
-- We almost certainly lost some money on the DDP, but I'm still glad we got it because it allowed us to do more table service meals and have less stress overall about expenses. We easily used up everything but child quick service credits, we had a few of those left over near the end.
Here's where we ate!
BOARDWALK DELI/PIZZA WINDOW: Pizza for the kids, sandwiches for the adults. Tasty and satisfying after our day of travel!
BEACHES AND CREAM: Got the kitchen sink for the experience, but honestly it's not great, all the ice cream and toppings melt together quick and you just end up with weird ice cream soup.
SAT'ULI CANTEEN: LOVED this place, everything was so yummy! Best quick service we had!
SANAA: Since Animal Kingdom closes so early, we thought we'd try to extend the experience by eating at Sanaa. What a great idea, we got seated right by a window and saw so many animals! The food was great too.
AKERSHUS: Our favorite princess meal! We met Aurora, Tiana, Snow White, Ariel, and Belle. They were all lovely, and the breakfast was really good too. Only 1 credit on the DDP!
GARDEN GRILL: Our kids really enjoyed getting to look down over Living with the Land and the fact that the restaurant spins. We met Farmer Mickey, Pluto, and Chip and Dale. They were fun and even came to our table more than once. Food was good!
SPACE 220: Not on the DDP, but wow, what a cool restaurant! Almost like a ride with the theming and the elevator up. Food was really good.
CINDERELLA'S ROYAL TABLE: You gotta eat in the castle! We paid for it OOP because we didn't want to use up 2 DDP credits here. You're really going for the location and the princesses, the food is kinda meh, not bad but not as good as other places. The restaurant is small and they have to turn tables quick, so it's very understandable to me that the princesses have to move fast. It's not that they rush you, they'll take all the pictures you ask for and sign whatever and answer your questions, but if you don't have much you need, they try to keep moving. Akershus is much bigger so they are able to be more relaxed there. The only small bummer is that we didn't see Merida (maybe she was on vacation too!) We did meet Cinderella, Ariel, Jasmine, and Aurora though!
CRYSTAL PALACE: We are not big on buffets but we enjoyed meeting Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger!
TOPOLINO'S: Maybe the best food of the trip, steak and eggs were so good! The character artist costumes are so cute too. It was fun to have an excuse to ride the Skyliner to get here from Beach Club too.
DOCKING BAY 7: The theming is great, but the food wasn't as good as Satuli Canteen IMO.
THE MARKET AT ALE & COMPASS: We had quick service credits we wanted to use up on the last day and we didn't want to leave the resort again, otherwise I would have gone somewhere else, food was meh.
✨EXTRAS✨
-- I originally wanted to book Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique for my kids, but it's so expensive/competitive that I decided to didn't want the stress. Instead I booked Have Wand, Will Travel to come to our room and bought dresses from Presley Couture and Only Little Once. I chose Have Wand, Will Travel because they keep character throughout. Fairy Godmother Elyse was amazing and so much fun, my kids loved it and kept talking about it all day!
-- That same morning I ordered a Sammicakes breakfast box with beignets for us to eat. I also ordered a pretend letter from Tiana on Etsy to make it seem like the breakfast came from Tiana. My kids also loved this and had fun telling Tiana about it both times we met her. Sammicakes was good but a LOT of food, sadly we didn't end up eating half of it. It can last you at least 3 days!
-- Matching shirts and ear hats, all from Etsy! So many cool designs there, hardest part is choosing!
-- Got my kids a pin trading lanyard with some pins, they loooooved pin trading! It was like free souvenirs.
🧳PACKING🧳
-- Things the Internet Told Me to Pack That I Needed: Scissors, ziploc bags, ibuprofen (kids and adults), garbage bags.
-- Things the Internet Told Me to Pack that I Didn't Need: stainless steel straws (the paper straws are more like cardboard, they really don't break down unless your kid is gnawing on them or something), ponchos (it did rain some most days, but wearing a poncho was almost more miserable than not wearing one, it's so hot and humid to be walking around in a plastic bag! We did better taking shelter and using umbrellas.), wipes (obv you need them if your kid is younger, but mine were older and just never got messy enough to need them.), glow sticks (we never stayed anywhere long enough to use them.) Basically, the less you can get away carrying in the parks, the better. It's annoying to lug stuff around you don't end up needing or using!
🛞STROLLER🛞
-- I know it seems insane that your 5 year old and 9 year old will need a stroller, but mine definitely did. Once I accepted that I was going to have to get one, I tried to make the best of it, and actually got really into decorating it so we could always easily spot it in the sea (the decorations also later made nice wall decor for a gallery of our trip!) The Magic Spotter flag was the best investment, hardly anyone had them so it was easy to instantly spot our stroller anywhere we left it, even if it got moved. That said, I definitely didn't want to spend a lot on a stroller we were really only buying for this one trip, so I got a used Joovy Caboose on Facebook Marketplace for $50. It was very hard to handle with two older kids in it, and even with one it was hard to handle unless the kid was in the back seat. So we basically used it like a single stroller, glad I didn't spend a lot on it since it was so hard to drive!
☔WEATHER☔
-- We had mostly great weather, it rained some every day except Magic Kingdom day but it passed within an hour each time. We wore socks with Crocs so that if/when it rained, we could just take our wet socks off and walk in our Crocs, this worked great! Don't trust the weather reports though, two days it wasn't supposed to rain. One day it actually didn't, the other day it did and we had to walk in wet shoes because we didn't wear the Crocs that day. Just figure it might rain any day and be prepared! See above note RE: ponchos being not great and shelter + umbrellas being better. When it didn't rain, It. Was. Hot. 🥵 In the 90s but definitely felt hotter with the humidity making it so sticky. We felt there was plenty of shade at Animal Kingdom and EPCOT, but hardly any at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, which I would say slightly affected how much fun we had on those days comparatively.
Phew! That's about it, let me know if you have any questions!

2024.05.18 19:47 Effective-Tone3410 New Manager Won't Allow Sick Hours

Hey, the title kinda speaks for itself. is there a new policy??? Does anyone know what I should do? Should I reach up to the regional since she and the DM are essentially best friends, or is it a lost cause?
We're in the Orlando area, so a really tourist heavy spot if that changes anything lol. Is there a new policy or something going on? I haven't ever used any sick hours, even when I was sick or found coverage (I have like 75hours, only requested 15. If I find coverage I don't see it in the app anymore so idk the exact amount of hours those days, but my manager won't allow any sick hours or pto, citing there is a new policy. We're also not scheduled enough (my boyfriend works 4 days a week and doesn't even reach 15 hours the past few weeks, to make up for it and the days he called off he requested to use all his six hours) and our old ASM told us once to use sick hours to be able to keep the insurance if we weren't getting scheduled enough due to them cracking down on labor at that time (like a year ish ago).
No one's sick hours or vacation hours were approved.
Thanks I'm so mad.

2024.05.18 18:12 georgejonestown Thanks r/AskNOLA y’all are the best

Thanks for your support and suggestions to everyone over the years, your feedback is priceless!
Solo Aussie male, late 30’s, three nights. I got lazy in the heat but I’m not at all disappointed. First but not last time.
Stayed at Hotel Villa Convento across the hall from Jimmy Buffet’s old room ❤️Balcony room overlooking Ursulines was awesome. Safe and quiet except for the DAMN FROGS.
Weds: Got in late afternoon, quiet night. Sidney’s for a muffuletta (goooood LORD it was incredible) and some PBR tallboys. Hit Cafe Du Monde. Lined up then realised near the front of the queue it was cash only. Got back to hotel, forgot I had cash all along. Blame the lack of sleep. Astros radio on the balcony, early night.
Thurs: Louisiana Music Factory, Jackson Square, Quarter wanderin’. Canal streetcar to Jackson and walk thru Garden District to Magazine St. Slow Down was a highlight. Antique Mall is cool too. Rum House was good for AC and a few Abita. Coop’s for dinner (crawfish and shrimp etouffe - some said their etouffe not the best in town but it damn well hit the spot). Frenchmen Street. Spotted Cat was a favourite. Safe and easy walk back down Royal. All That Jazz from Verti Mart damn nearly made me cry it was so good. Sixer of Coors Light and made it back just before shit got wild.
Fri: Cafe Beignet so as to skip the Cafe Du Monde lines. Chocolate drizzled beignets did the trick. Bottle of rum for home and a muffuletta from Sidney’s for today’s Amtrak ride. Canal streetcar to City Park. Liuzza’s by the Track for a BBQ shrimp poboy 🔥Walked down to Bayou Boogaloo fest. Saw Dave Jordan. Saw George Porter Jr (an original Meter playing Cissy Strut, that’s bucket list stuff). Streetcar back and walk up Royal before the rain.
For other tourists who read this: Be friendly, tip well and don’t be an ass.
I will be back for more as soon as I can, thanks New Orleans!

2024.05.18 16:54 Manifestations07 Acquiring US Tourist Visa from Philippines

Hello, I'm a 25-year-old female with a stable job in the Philippines, working in the tech and startup industry. My family (me, my parents, and my grandmother) plan on applying for a US tourist visa this year to visit our relatives in the States and visit famous tourist spots as well. Can anyone let me know if I/we have a chance of getting approved? And any tips for this situation?
Context: My parents and grandmother have recently been to Europe via Schengen visa, and have govt jobs/properties in the Philippines. They have 7 digits in their bank account. As for me, I have 5 digits in my bank account, and have been to Japan and Hong Kong as a tourist already.
PS: Im more worried for my visa, as I also have an LDR American boyfriend. We met in person when he was in Manila last year (not online) and became LDR when he went back to the States. Not sure if this will hurt my chances and if I should not mention this during the interview (my fam and I had plans on applying before our relationship btw). Although I would love to see him if ever, but I swear, I plan on going back to the Phil if ever we push through with the trip.
Looking forward to any insights, thanks so much in advance!

2024.05.18 16:44 Irishone1999 Costs of Trip to Northeast and Florida

Hello all,
My brother and I want to visit America from Ireland in Summer 2025. We want to travel throughout the Northeast, hitting the following spots - Boston (3 nights), Rhode Island (2 nights), Connecticut (1 night), NYC (4 nights), Philadelphia (3 nights), Baltimore (1 night), D.C. (3 nights).
We then want to make our way down to Florida, probably by air (but maybe those long-distance buses could be an option), and visit the following - Tampa (3 nights), Miami (3 nights), plus time in the Everglades (We're not sure how many days would suffice there. Is it just a one day trip sort of thing?). Perhaps there should also be a stop in between the west (Tampa) and south (Everglades) before we hit Miami? Maybe Naples? Not sure. We're also not sure about going all the way down to Key West with the tourist prices.
These destinations and the duration in each are of course preliminary and are open to advice. We're don't have a particular interest in Disney or Universal and so are currently omitting Orlando. We'd be flying into Boston or D.C. (whichever is cheaper) and then home from Florida. Or vice-versa if that works out cheaper. It'd be around June into July, roughly 20-30 days.
The main thing we're figuring out is the rough cost of the trip so we can start preparing funds for it. We are budget style backpackers more than comfort travelers who are used to travelling cheaply. We're currently estimating between 3k-4k including the transatlantic flights from Ireland. But we're not sure since we've not done America before. We plan to eat fast food/street food most of the time plus the odd restaurant meal here and there. We won't be going out every single night. If you can offer any guidance, we'd appreciate it. Thanks.

2024.05.18 15:40 kittyteacups 26F - Looking for friends who want to do touristy things with me today!

Hi!
I posted here before but only really received messages from men who wanted to essentially date or engage in NSFW activities and want to preface that I am not here for that. I would love to make friends with other women but am open to friends of the other gender as well.
On that note, I’m new to the City and have yet to do any touristy things and thought today would be perfect with this beautiful weather that has been gracing us! I’d love to find a few people or even one who want to be a tourist with me for the day and just check out everything and anything that our heart desires.
To tell you about myself I work in finance in true NYC fashion, so if you are a fellow professional looking for other professional friends you may just be in luck! In my free time, I quite frankly have just been walking anywhere and everywhere and exploring the city. But when I’m not doing that, I really love to powerlift, cook, bake, read, occasionally play OSRS, and find awesome spots with yummy iced americano.
If you’re interested, send me a message with a short intro about you! I will not respond to your comments to this post, thank you. :)

2024.05.18 15:18 Gyro_Armadillo PAL may restart direct Europe flights by 2025 but needs 'help' to keep prices competitive

PAL may restart direct Europe flights by 2025 but needs 'help' to keep prices competitive
MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Airlines (PAL) wants to return direct flights to Europe as early as 2025, but the flag carrier is seeking help from the government to make potential flight prices affordable.
“Maybe in a year’s time, you can see a PAL plane flying to France when we get the new Airbus A350. But we’re still looking into that. We had meetings for that. And we’re optimistic that it’s going to work,” PAL president and chief executive officer Stanley Ng said in an event staged at the Embassy of France in Manila.
In 2023, PAL placed an order for 9 Airbus A350-1000s, which are wide-body jets commonly used for long routes, such as from the Philippines to the North American east coast. Deliveries for these planes are expected to start in 2025.
Since finalizing the order, Ng has consistently told reporters that the airline is eyeing to return to Europe after the A350s arrive. However, the PAL president also explained this time that they need help from the government to keep their price competitive.
“But we also need the support of the French Embassy as well as the Philippine government. We will find ways to make it happen and make traveling to Europe more convenient for every Filipino, as well as bringing more tourists from Europe to the Philippines,” Ng said on Monday.
Ng clarified that the reason why PAL and other Philippine-based carriers don’t offer direct flights to Europe is “because of competition” from other airlines that can offer cheaper prices.
“If the fares that you’re gonna offer will not make sense, it’s hard also to justify. That’s why I mentioned earlier [that we need] some help from both sides of the government,” he said.
This support could come in the form of lower charges, such as parking fees. Ng said that with the reduced costs, PAL could offer more competitively-priced flights to Europe.
PAL’s sole route in Europe, Manila to London, stopped in 1998 but resumed again in 2013. From 2013 onwards, the service continued direct flights until 2022, when it was affected by the coronavirus pandemic’s disruption to global travel. But with new aircraft on the way and travel demand picking up again, the flag carrier could soon revive its footprint in Europe.
“At least one European destination would be exciting for everyone,” Ng said. “Because if you start the direct flight, it will stimulate both economies. It will stimulate travel. A lot of value will be added if you have a direct flight. So, we just have to quantify that and see how the both sides of the government can support,” Ng said, adding that the demand for travel “will be there.”
As of May 1, France was the country’s 12th largest source of visitor arrivals, with a total of 35,023 French travelers entering the Philippines from January to April 2024.

2024.05.18 14:24 brainstalation I spent 5 days in Cairo

I (29,f) feel the need to share this because reading posts on this sub, prior to going to Cairo, I was scared. I was mentally preparing for several bad experiences: 1. being hassled all the time 2. being groped 3. being scammed
NONE of these happened! Someone explain, what happened to Egypt in the past year that it’s that much more pleasant.
  1. Only hasseling we experienced was at the Giza pyramids but it was just the first 500 m after you enter. We visited with NO tour guide. We simply told everyone “our tour guide is over there” and they would leave us alone. Maybe a camel guy followed us for 10/15 m but it was fun in a way. I’ve experienced far greater hassling in the Philippines for example, when I even cried 😅. All the other spots around town - no hassling really 🤷🏽‍♀️
  2. No one even catcalled me 😆. Even when I was out alone. No problem whatsoever. To be fair, my boyfriend did get harassed by a guy who out of the blue started to feel around my boyfriend ear and was putting my bf’s hair behind his ear while we were walking. And this happened in Zamalek - what’s supposed to be a touristy neighbourhood.
  3. No one tried to scam us and everything was really, really cheap. The only “tip” I had to give was to a Pyramids’ security woman who wouldn’t let me enter with my binoculars. Gave her the equivalent of 0.25 EUR
Now, I’m not saying Egypt is the easiest country to travel - far from it. But it’s not as scary now as people describe it 1 year ago.

2024.05.18 11:23 Gyro_Armadillo Ang See: Tougher visa rules for Chinese not right solution

Ang See: Tougher visa rules for Chinese not right solution
Tightening visa rules for Chinese tourists will not stop the influx of undesirable visitors if immigration officers can be bribed anyway, civic leader Teresita Ang See said on Thursday.
“We already have a proper visa application process in place in our consular and embassy office abroad. That system ain’t broke,” said Ang See, a longtime anticrime crusader from the Filipino-Chinese community.
“Instead, the problem lies with our bureaucrats here at home. Bad elements and illegals can go through our front door through connections and bribes if they are determined,” she said.
The statements were in reaction to the announcement made by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) last week about the stricter tourist visa requirements being imposed specifically on Chinese applicants.
The DFA earlier said Philippine consular officers in China had encountered a high number of fraudulent visa applications believed to be from those engaged in Philippine offshore gaming operators (Pogos).
While acknowledged for their job creation and other economic contributions, Pogos have been blamed especially by some lawmakers for rising incidents of human trafficking, prostitution, kidnapping, fraud and money laundering involving their Chinese workers.
50 visa applicants According to Ang See, the Philippine Embassy in Beijing and consulates in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiamen, had been strict and would process only 50 visa applicants a day due to their limited staff despite the large number of daily applicants.
Citing one of the consequences, she said there were Chinese professors who missed three conferences at the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University because their visitors’ visas were not released on time.
She also recalled the “pastillas scam” that was first exposed in a Senate inquiry in 2020, when immigration officers were found to have been accepting bribes to let Chinese arrivals skip regular entry procedures at the airport.
Last year, she added, the Department of Justice uncovered another scam in the Bureau of Immigration where foreigners blacklisted in their home countries were allowed to enter and leave the Philippines after paying bribes amounting to P150,000 each.
“The right thing to do is shut down the loopholes and corruption in our government here at home. Fix what’s broken: our own agencies have failed to stop the entry of illegal aliens and Pogo workers and stop Pogo operations all together,” she said.

2024.05.18 10:55 Quiet_Common_4561 Specialist didn’t endorse me for surgery because I am an LGBT member

I have a similar situation with this post
But please note that this was almost 3 years ago and at that moment I felt lost but quickly tried to be back on my feet. I am ok now, the surgery was successful :)
So what happened is, I needed a clearance for my lab results so that I can undergo double mastectomy (removal of breasts). I am a transgender man under Hormonal Replacement Therapy which means I am manly looking and the only thing that will give me away is when you see my full name.
My lab tests were done in the same hospital where that doctor is a resident (not sure of the terminologies) and the personnel were very kind even when I explained that the tests were for my gender reassignment surgery. Some even said nice things about it and wished me good luck.
After 3 days, I got my results and waited for 5 hours before I was able to meet that doctor and it was almost the end of their clinic hours. When she asked what is the clearance for, I said the same thing that I told to the other personnel and medical professionals—it is for my gender reassignment surgery.
She was upfront in telling me that she doesn’t want to endorse a clearance for my surgery due to her religion. I understand the part that doctors can decline patients but she didn’t endorse any doctor for me which left me in a tight spot because I basically wasted my PTO for that appointment and had nowhere else to go because it was almost 5PM.
Para akong iniwan sa ere bigla tapos pinarangalanan pa niya ako na mali daw ginagawa ko sa katawan ko and she doesn’t want to be part of it.
Basically inapakan niya pagkatao ko using her religion (I think Christian siya) tapos hindi niya rin ako tinulungan kung saan ako pwede lumapit na ibang doctor.
Good thing that there was a clinic in East Ave na until 6PM and I was able to make it until the cut off time. Sobrang thank you sa Google at dahil may data pa ako that day pero grabe ‘yung dinulot nu’ng araw na ‘yun.
I cried on the way to the 2nd hospital kasi unsure ako kung aabot ako at wala na akong ibang free day until my surgery and hindi na pwede ilipat surgey sched ko or else I would’ve waited an additional 3 months or more tapos repeat ulit sa process ng lab tests na dapat within 1 week before surgery ‘yung results and clearance.
I hope that doctors who decline patients based on their beliefs would simply explain their personal reason tapos hindi na sila mangangaral because iba paniniwala nila and to actually refer another doctor.
Or kung wala talagang marerefer, siguro ‘wag na maliitin ‘yung tao kasi iba ‘yung way of living nila.

2024.05.18 10:47 Hidden_alt420 Bunbunmaru news network

Bunbunmaru news network is a fake youtube news channel that was made on June 18th 2021 and is currently still running. In the channels early days they uploaded bait and switch gore videos but now about half of the videos uploaded have been removed by YouTube.
Removed videos:
the first removed video I will talk about was one called “nyanners singing meme” which is of an anime character dancing then it cuts to a quick beheading in the top corner before cutting back to the anime character. I actually got to see the video before it was removed by youtube and in my opinion it really wasn’t that bad. Another video that got removed which I also got to have the opportunity of seeing before it’s removal was a video called ventas rumba and it shows a clip of the venta waterfall in Latvia before cutting to a beheading in a pink colored tint and cutting back to the waterfall. In my opinion that video was worse than the first beheading but still not the worst I’ve seen. Another removed video was called anime meme and it began with an anime character with a chainsaw before cutting to the infamous cartel murder video 2 guys 1 chainsaw (never heard of it but wanna learn more without watching it? Here is a short article I wrote about the video https://www.reddit.com/thingsnottogoogle/comments/199g3fj/2\_guys\_1\_chainsaw/). I didn’t get the chance to see the bait and switch video on youtube with 2 guys 1 chainsaw but I’ve seen the actual video of it and it is very disturbing and graphic. Another removed video that I didn’t get to see was a video called “old film from Iraq” and it is an isis beheading and other clips of isis killings which from seeing past videos I know are very graphic. Another one that I didn’t get to see and in all honesty didn’t want to because it’s gross was one called narco arc said something naughty and it was a video of a character (I think anime) saying the n word before cutting to a video called snake ass or 1 man 1 snake where a man sticks a snake up his…I’m sure you can figure it out. There’s supposedly another video on the channel called Pearl fish’s gross hiding spot that also cuts to 1 man 1 snake and oddly enough hasn’t been removed from the channel. Another removed video is a video called SpongeBob’s naughty tv show and it shows SpongeBob watching tv then cuts to a man masturbating with a mcchicken sandwich. Another removed video and probably the least disturbing removed video because it doesn’t have actual gore or gross content was called ducktales molestar psa and supposedly it was just the ducktales characters saying inappropriate racist things in a song but I never got to see it and can’t find any further details on it. The last of the removed videos and probably the most disturbing of the removed videos is one called tourist trolled in Mexico and it’s the infamous el patron or 1 man 5 bullets video and it shows the murder of a man named Leonardo Alexander Caripe Brito. I also wanted to say that the video wasn’t even from Mexico and the murder actually took place in Peru so the name of the video was wrong. In the video Brito is sitting on steps near a building and a man named Frank Anthony Lopez Quiroz approaches him yelling “tu dile el patron” which means “you told the boss” and before Brito says anything Quiroz pulls out a gun and begins shooting him in the face and in the video Brito’s eyeball pops out after being shot and his nose pours out blood as he collapses bleeding out and then the video ends. I saw the video before (not on bunbunmaru tho) and it was so bad that I would consider it to be about as bad as some cartel videos I’ve seen and maybe even worse than some of them. Unfortunately Brito was only 34 and he left behind a wife and 3 young kids. Quiroz was also arrested prior to killing Brito for murdering 2 people and was connected to 8 other murders and went by the nickname“mata por gusto” which translates to “kills for pleasure” so he is obviously a piece of work. Rest in peace Leonardo Brito
Videos that are still up: I am currently watching some of the videos that are still up to help write this post and I won’t lie I am watching them out of curiosity too. The first video that is still up and I believe I watched it when I first found out about the channel about 6 months ago but I don’t feel like watching it again because it was really gross. It’s called “wtf gumball watchin” and it supposedlyshows gumball from the amazing world of gumball walking in on banana Joe (another character from the show) watching a video on his computer and the video shows multiple other pictures and videos with 2 being of scat porn, one being a dead animal with “fuck (n words) on it”, 2 characters from a show called ongezellig, and the nazi swastika symbol. From what I remember luckily the videos and photos were super small and hard to tell what they are but again I don’t feel like seeing anything related to scat so I won’t be watching that again. The next video which I actually just watched now 5 seconds ago and it really isn’t that bad is called “hodomoe cat mp6” and it shows a cat dancing with multiple gore images that are so small that you can barely tell what they are and the one looked like a guy missing his face and according to screamer wiki the one picture is of a motorcycle accident but the pictures are so small that you can barely see them. The next video which I’ve also opted out of watching I already talked about and it is called “Pearl fish’s gross hiding spot”. The next video which I watched about an hour ago right before I began writing this post (yes these posts take me a while to write) is called “decipher this song” and it shows an all black screen with a song playing and at the very end it shows a very quick clip of a decomposing body. There are also 2 very mild videos on the channel called cat bbc and sound 100% koin which are just bait and switch videos that cut to Jeff the killer. The channel also uploaded a few other videos that screamer wiki hasn’t written about yet and I am taking breaks from writing to watch them and returning to writing right after I finish watching each. The one I just watched is called “I like touhou” and it’s another highly disturbing video that begins some anime character and then shows an isis beheading and a picture of a very decomposed body who’s face is completely blue. The next one I just watched is called fainal rickroll and it is just a video that cuts to Jeff the killer with a rickroll at the end nothing crazy. The last one is called oh pretttty Roman and it shows a series of gore images with one being the guy missing his face from hodomoe cat and a picture of the infamous shock image “tubgirl” where a girl is in a bathtub with her own diarrhea shooting on her face and a few memes and more gore pictures with one being a person missing a hand and another decomposing body then a picture of Jeff the killer. After the disturbing images the video cuts to a color changing screen that is probably a seizure warning for some people so don’t watch that if you have issues with flashing lights. If the channel posts more in the future then I might make another post talking about it as well but based on past similar youtube channels they probably won’t be up too long because people report that type of content. Thanks for reading and thanks for helping grow this subreddit you guys are cool people and I hope that didn’t ruin your day like seeing some of it ruined my night.
Anyway if reading about it wasn’t disturbing enough here is the link to this somewhat entertaining mess of a youtube channel https://youtube.com/@bunbunmarunewsnetwork?si=kEYDZD6id3hgdCQL

2024.05.18 09:52 simpleflaw A few questions about a week trip in June

Hi all! 6 of us are staying in a villa between "Armenoi" and "Kalyves" in June, I've taken the backseat in terms of planning, but I've got a few questions!
  1. Nobody in the group wants to drive, so rental car is out of the question. I've seen some posts about buses on Crete being pretty good, are they a reliable way to travel further afield? (Chania, Heraklion?)
  2. I use Starling for a bank (which lets you use GBP worldwide and they sort exchanging it via card transaction) but some of the group keep bringing up euros. Is it worth taking some? Or could I just take some out if really needed?
  3. The lead booker has said the start of June isn't "tourist season" but would there be any spots to avoid mass crowds?
  4. I was hoping to go for an early morning run one morning, is the area relatively safe?
  5. If there was one thing you would absolutely HAVE to do on Crete as a visitor, what would it be?

2024.05.18 07:49 yototok Working in Bang-Na for a few years, what should I prepare or expect?

Gonna working in Bang-Na for a few years and I would like to know the costs of living, expenses, and the overall community.
Family will visit here somewhat often and would also like to get some great tourists spots around the area.

2024.05.18 07:29 asawanileefelix finding a specific perfume ( TДT)

So I have this English teacher and one time she left her fan at the teacher's table. When we went to pick it up it smelled sooo good that everyone else in the classroom praised how good it smelled. ( >Д<;)
I really want to find out what perfume she uses. I don't know how to describe the scent but basically it smells like those scented rosaries you can find online or on tourist spots.
Can someone recommend perfumes that smell like it preferrably available online? Thanks!

2024.05.18 07:17 BurntChickemNuggie JUST DID THE CRAZY THING

I just wanted to share a small victory with all of you. I finally submitted my DS-160 form for a US tourist visa interview in July!
I know, I know...it might seem a little crazy considering I'm from the Philippines and I've only traveled internationally once and even with a good paying remote job my employer is based in the US. Plus, the approval rates seem to be all over the place these days.
So, even with all the doubts and anxieties swirling around in my head, I just had a feeling I had to take the leap.
Feeling super hopeful and a little bit nervous, of course! But mostly just excited for this possibility. Wish me luck, everyone!
Would love to hear any tips or well wishes from anyone who's been through the US visa application process, especially from fellow Filipinos!

2024.05.18 06:26 AppHelper Farewell, my dear S5 cabriolet

This week, after just short of 10 years, I said goodbye to a good friend: my Audi S5 convertible.
It was a car I had wanted for several years, and the job I had out of law school made it possible. Two years in, I had gotten a new job in California, and instead of a flight, the firm agreed to pay for a cross-country road trip, a dream I had for a long time.
My Audi was a German car, but driving it was an American experience. I saw every vista from “This Land Is Your Land”: venturing on my first road trip from the New York island of Manhattan to the redwood forests of California; following the Gulf Stream waters starting in Tampa and up the East Coast; gazing up at endless skyway above ribbons of highway in Nevada; descending from the Rocky Mountains into the golden valley of the Colorado river; roaming and rambling through the sparkling sands of the Bonneville Salt Flats’ diamond desert; traversing backroads in Big Sur marked “private property”; passing through waving wheat fields in Kansas and rolling dust clouds in wide-open Texas; and watching the fog lift over the San Francisco Bay.
My car meant freedom. After moving back in with my parents during the pandemic, it was my escape both literal and figurative. I visited Adirondack State Park in New York for the fourth time; drove down to Florida and up through Daytona, Savannah, and Charleston; and ventured to the rugged Baxter State Park and pristine Acadia National Park in Maine. Locally, I regularly left the house for my rotation of Mancini’s pizza, EB Chinese, Wendy’s, and Wasabi House—all eaten in my car, with the top down if weather permitted. For a taste of Tsukiji, Tokyo, I would travel to Flatbush for Koma Sushi’s all-you-can-eat bluefin tuna events (and pick up Rita's water ice for my parents). I was responsible for my family's grocery shopping for many months, and before returning home in my Audi, I would often indulge in a ball of fresh-made mozzarella the size of my fist.
My 2011 Audi S5 Premium Plus Cabriolet was purchased on June 7, 2014 at Audi Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The dealer pulled a little sales trick: I came in to see a black certified pre-owned model listed for a price in my budget. The car was fine, but it was dusted in a layer of dirt. Given that I was moving to sunny California, black was not my preferred color. Then, of course, a beautiful, shiny “quartz gray metallic” S5 rolls up. The color was striking, taking on a tint of its environment while maintaining its own presence. It was especially beautiful under the blue sky. I couldn’t help but stretch my budget.
Car designer Walter di Silva, who was responsible for the design strategy of Lamborghini, Bugatti, and Audi for several years, called the Audi A5 his favorite design. It's hard to argue with that. It’s as close to timeless design as a car can get, and the convertible version was clearly very carefully engineered. The aerodynamics with the wind deflector in place are like magic. You can drive comfortably with the top down even in freezing weather. And at highway speeds, rain flows smoothly over your head.
It was a wonderful ride; the suspension was sporty and stiff, and the car was heavy so there were plenty of “thuds,” but it was never uncomfortable. The sport seats were a thing of beauty, and even after consecutive days of driving seven hours or more, I never had a hint of back pain. There were a few ergonomic quirks, like the steering wheel blocking the turn-signal indicators when adjusted to my preferred position, but otherwise it felt molded to my needs. (I especially appreciated the elbow room that later, slimmer S5 models didn't offer.)
Sure, the drive-by-wire gas pedal didn’t have the immediacy or feedback of the mechanically linked throttle on my previous car, and the supercharged V6 couldn’t launch the car as fast as the 400 horsepower V8 I had experienced in a Corvette, but it always had power to spare—even at its computer-limited maximum speed of 155 miles per hour. The “exhaust note” was also not the most harmonious, but the first time I experienced that “Audi burp” was unforgettable. The steering was not quite as precise as on the BMW 335i and 435i I had cross-shopped, but the sport differential gave it a turning ability much better than would be expected of a car of that weight. So it was not a perfect car, but it was a fun car.
And it was practical car. The rear seats were borderline suitable for adult humans, but the rear space was copious. Sometimes it became my mini pickup, hauling boxes from Costco, a lounge chair for my office, or even 2x4s for a building project. I knew how to fit each of my suitcases in for maximum efficiency.
My car was also very personal. I had driving companions for only two of my road trips: my second cross-country trip and my tour of all eight Ivy League colleges in one day. Every other road trip was either solo or with someone who remained a passenger. A generous ex-girlfriend kept it in her covered parking spot while I grew my business in India, and my dad graciously took the car out every few weeks while I was living in the Philippines. But that was it. Besides a few valets and mechanics doing routine test drives, probably not more than four or five other people drove the car the entire time I owned it.
I bought my S5 in a time of prosperity and promise. Perhaps I should have sold it earlier and switched to something more modest. When things were tough, I had to refinance, but it remained the last symbol that I hadn't lost everything. I clung to it, for better or for worse.
As my parents leave our family home and I rid myself of many of my old possessions, none is as meaningful as that car. Even though I have been living in the Philippines for most of the past seven years, I am starting a new chapter in my life. I'm excited for new adventures, in vehicles and otherwise.
And my next car will be even cooler.
