this is the first time i call my mother that, i have never insulted her, never yelled at her or even raised my voice, in every “argument” it’s her screaming at me or saying very harsh things and me sitting there, taking it. but calling her that word after years of torment feels good.

she now torments me for the smallest of things.. like one time i came back from the gym, poured a cup of water, then poured another cup of water because i was thirsty and i had finished my water at the gym. she yells “who drinks like that!!? drink like a normal human.” and while that seems like just a minor inconvenience, the issue is it happens with every small action i make, over and over, daily, every single muscle i move, she has a negative comment about, and that was when i told her to just give me a fucking break.
how about that one time when i was 15, i came out to her about the fact that i was raped as a child, and couldnt say anything because of the extreme fear, and as any normal mother does, she had zero empathy and her eyes and just said “well why didnt you defend yourself?”. im not going to say how that made me feel. im just going to let you guess.
today i came back from friday prayer and got the car washed like she asked, she sees i came home wearing the home sandals instead of the main sandals i wear to go out, both normal sandals, but one is plastic sort of like a croc. she glares at me, raises her voice and says “is this what you wear to friday prayers? wont you dress like a normal person?” implying people were going to stare at my sandals which are taken off during prayers and judge me. i just cant. and when i told her i couldnt find my main sandals and was in a hurry, she said “fucking look for them, i put them right here in this drawer, use your head.”
when i forget small things she mentions, she gets pissed and talks to me in that same tone she always does, and that same glare, even though she knows im riddled with ADHD, but she doesnt care enough to learn a single thing about her son’s mental health problems, not the ADHD, not the BPD, not the chronic depression, all of which im not being treated for, and all of which i have been diagnosed with, all of which she was told and warned about.
did i mention, this one time? i had an insane tooth infection, the right side of my face was VERY swollen for days, i was in the worst pain of my life, i was terrified, and having already experienced an extreme panic disorder and health anxiety, god knows i was afraid of sepsis, and when my blood test results came back and i saw my white blood cell count was high, god forbid.. i panicked. i couldnt control it. i wanted to go back to the dentist, just to let him look at the report and tell me im okay, which was for free, in a dentist that was very close to my home, she didnt like that. she didnt like that i was riddled with health anxiety after spending 30+ minutes on top of my dad’s dead body trying to revive him, she couldnt accept that i had been traumatized. she kicks me out. so here i am, on the streets, face swollen, sleeping and shitting on the street with a fever and diarrhea, wiping my ass with pieces of cardboard, hoping to god nothing bad happens to me because that infection was sucking the power out of me.
she wants me to provide, im trying to provide, im trying to pay her back for the money she spent on me ever since i turned 18, but i JUST got qualified legally for work, and im JUST now able to even look for work, yet she has been shaming me for it before i was legal. so for now, until i find a job, im getting money from my ex, which im not so proud of, but so far i sent her 300 dollars hoping she shuts up, and 300$ is a good amount in my country. but she questions how i got that money, she thinks im selling my body for it. which honestly, im very willing to do at this point, i have a nice body and even though males are not as valuabe in that field, if it makes me money until a place im applying at accepts me, i dont have any morals and i’ll happily do it.

and by the time i was 18, she claimed i blew all my side of the money on going to the fucking psychiatrist to stop me from killing myself, and gym memberships, she loves to talk about some “legally you owe me”, but arent you supposed to spend that much until im 18? legally speaking, since we wanna go that way. legally speaking, dont you OWE me that money? i didnt spend any of it, YOU did, and you’re way more happy to let me drive 140kms to get you packs of cigarettes that are cheaper that arent being sold here, spending a shit ton of gas money, every two weeks, rather than letting me see my girl who by the way offers to pay for any inconvenience for her because she knows how my mother is. but no, its not just the money that bugs her, 25 minute drive to see my girl is too much, but a 2 hour round trip just to spend more money on cigs isnt, right? no, she doesnt want me to be happy, she KNOWS she doesnt pay anything out of her own pockets when i go see my lady, she KNOWS seeing her gets me out of that depressed state, but she doesnt want me to, and when the money excuse gets old, she says “maybe 6 months ago i would have been happy for you, but you simply ruined it, your actions did this”.
actions, she says, or basically, my lack of action, yes mother, im terribly sorry i was born in a country that will not allow me to work until a month ago, im sorry that i couldnt apply to college because i cant afford it, and because i knew nothing about life, lived in the middle of nowhere my whole life and didnt start learning how the world works until i turned 17. you didnt teach my how to ride a bike, you didnt teach me how to defend myself, you didnt teach me how to speak english, you didnt teach me how to fucking swim, you didnt introduce me to any physical activity and fucking locked me at home my entire childhood, with just internet access, until i became overweight as a child, and until i took matters into my own hands and changed that. and guess what? my other two sisters? 9 and 16, one is overweight and the other is OBESE since she was a child. great fucking parenting, leaving a 9 year old glued to an ipad because you never knew how to be a mother. and when i tried to take matters into my own hands and restrict the 9 year old from spending 12 hours plus a day on the ipad doing god knows what with god knows who, so she can have real fucking friends, real life fucking experiences, “give it back. im her mother, not you”. well you’re the reason she’s fat, you’re the reason we all got bullied. maybe introduce the poor kid to a fucking sport? fuck.

My wife opened the garage door at our new house while the back hatch on our SUV was open. The pull cord got caught on the hatch and disconnected the trolly. After that she tried to run the garage door opener a few times before realizing what happened and also manually opened the garage door to remove our vehicle. I wasn’t present so that’s all the info I have on what happened.
When I arrived I reconnected the door to the trolly in the up position and activated the garage opener to let the door back down. When I tried to open the door with the opener it stopped about 12” off the ground.

- I checked the guide rails and to my eyes everything looks aligned and free of debris
- sensors appear to be aligned with nothing blocking them
- door opens smoothly manually
- house is fairly new (2016)
- spring doesn’t look broken can share pics later when I’m at the house
- the model of the opener is a genie 650

I made a previous post on here about MIL 2 months ago.
I 30 F grew up in an Arab-Muslim household, however I never aligned with Islam and it affected by identity. I stopped believing in Islam when I was 19 and I never looked back. I don't fast ramadan, I don't pray, I don't attend the mosque, I don't wear a hijab and although my parents are somewhat culturally religious they never forced me to do anything.
However some of my morals/behaviours you can say are influenced by Islam. I will wear a spaghetti strapped dress but I don't wear bikinis or mini skirts. That's just personal choice now and I don't feel comfortable. I don't drink alcohol and I never cared to start. I don't greet men with kisses and hugs because it's just not what I'm used to. (Although they always end up kissing me anyway- but I really don't care that much I just don't initiate that type of greeting).
My husband 28 M grew up in a household with an Australian dad and a Italian catholic mother. His mother did not approve of me and would rant on about Islam and refused to meet my parents when they invited her over for dinner. Husband tried to explain to MIL that I'm not religious in the slightest, but she did not care. He defended me at the start and said he loved me and MIL would never make him change his mind.
He also had a weird family dynamic. He cooks, cleans, takes care of his grandmother when MIL leaves the house, pays the mortgage, bills, mows the lawn, packs his sisters (who is in her 20's) lunch and MIL and FIL demand he changes his sisters bedsheet, feeds the dog etc. FIL also constantly sends him messages about MILs state everyday and what they can do to further please MIL. MIL and FIL have an obsession with his sisters and want husband to worship his sisters as much as they do. MIL also slapped him once for questioning his sister's diet choices.
Husband went no contact with MIL for 1 month however she was admitted to hospital due to an infection that was resolved with antibiotics. Husband had no car so I lent him my car to visit her in hospital. A loving husband who was once happy, caring and amazing to me became cold , distant and "depressed". He started lying to me about hanging out with them, messaging his mum and aunt and hiding the conversation from me, would no longer talk to me or even greet me at the door after work and genuinely became so heartless towards me. He was slowly breaking my heart.
I left to stay at my parents for 1 night, he called me to come home so we can talk. Mind you we live in an apartment that my father owns and he is letting us live there for free.
I arrive to see he has packed all his things and will be moving back in with MIL. He said although I do not align with islam and arab culture the matter of the fact is "YOU ARE STILL A 1ST GENERATION ARAB AND ALWAYS WILL BE, YOURE IN THAT CIRCLE , I DONT WANT MY FUTURE KIDS AROUND YOUR FAMILY". He said that he didn't want to worry about whether his 12 year old daughter would be able to wear a bikini and whether his sons would be able to greet their female friends with kisses. I advised that I'm not religious and all those things may not even be an issue to me and my children will obviously not be entirely like me. Also we can work things out as well and talk about what's appropriate like normal parents when the time arises. Also his male friends always greet me with kisses and although I don't initiate - it doesnt bother me... and he has witnessed all this.
He said there's no way it can work and I'm still an Arab. Although my family have been nothing but lovely and hospitable to him, he doesnt want to be around them and he is losing his identity.
He was so cold, kept saying "YOURE STILL AN ARAB" and our cultures clash. I advised his been brainwashed by MIL and he knows who I really am. He said it just won't work.
I haven't gone back to the apartment and everything he said to me was all a lie. He loves me, he wants to have children with me, I'd be a great mother etc. All out the window. So yes, I did it. I finally did it. I am now 29 years old and I have been fighting this thing since I am around 22 or so (I have been addicted to it since about 12, but I only actively started trying to get free from it later in life). Nobody can count how many times I tried, how many promises I made to myself, how many methods I used, how many books and articles I read, only to end up relapsing sooner or later, with the accompanying feelings of depression, hopelessness and failure. I've been through it all. I went to therapy. I had accountability buddies. I worked through the 12 steps with the help of a sponsor. I joined online sex addiction meetings. I took up a regular meditation practice. I went to the gym. I followed the SMART recovery method and attended online meetings. And yet, no matter how hard I tried, I. Always. Ended. Up. Relapsing. And for me, relapsing meant wanting to die. Feeling so down and so discouraged that it took weeks to go back to my "normal self". It meant affected relationships with my family and friends, and my job performance, not to speak of my interactions with women.
So if 5-6 months ago you had told me that in a few month's time I would be 100% PMO free, pursuing a dream that before seemed impossible (solo traveling through Asia), and forming dozens of meaningful relationships with attractive women who seemed attracted to me and my newfound confidence, I would have thought you were mad. Yet this is exactly what happened. (Now, obviously quitting PMO wasn't the only thing that led to this transformation, but it was definitely the catalyst without which none of the other things could have happened).
I want to share with you the method I followed to finally break free from this, because so far I haven't heard of anybody else discussing a similar approach. I really hope that what I have to share may be useful for some of you.
DISCLAIMER: This is the method that I followed, and for me it worked where nothing else had, but this doesn't mean that it will work for everyone. There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all cure. You have to get to know yourself, get to know your own particular strengths and weaknesses, and work from there.
But before discussing the specifics of the approach, I think it is very important to understand the psychology behind it. This is the most important part. In other words, you have to understand why the method works in the way it does. It has to make sense to you. Otherwise you'd be just blindly following a recipe, which is no good.
So allow me to suggest a thought experiment. Now, the premise of it may sound a bit extreme, but it's just meant to illustrate a point. Please bear with me, and really go through it in yourself. Please for the moment set aside any objections you may have, and just try to imagine as vividly as you can the situation. Otherwise, the rest of what I have to say will not be very meaningful.
Imagine you were to insert a small device in yourself (just use your imagination) which, as soon as you intentionally watched pornography or ejaculated to masturbation, would release a poison that would instantly kill you. There's no way to remove this device, and it is completely infallible. It will know, as soon as you intentionally watch porn or orgasm to masturbation and just kill you.
Now, ask yourself this: would you, in this case, be tempted to watch porn or masturbate? Don't answer rationally, really take a moment to construct the scenario in your mind, and imagine how would it feel. How would you feel if you knew that porn would literally, instantly kill you?
If you're like me, the answer is obvious: I wouldn't even be tempted to watch porn anymore. In a way, it would cease to be a problem altogether. There wouldn't be a struggle anymore. It would be a no-brainer. No matter how many urges I had, I wound't for a second consider doing it. The problem would be over.
This realization for me was a game-changer, because thinking about it in this way showed me that in truth, I do have the capacity to stop watching porn (since in an extreme situation I would be able to do it without a problem). The problem, of course, is that in real life my urge to watch porn could always find that little window of space to insert itself into my thought patterns and lead me down the old path, no matter how much my rational self knew how bad it was for me.
So in a way the problem for me become how to engineer a situation where the consequences of watching porn and masturbating would be so dire and immediate, that the thought of it would simply cease to occur to me. The practicalities of it are quite straightforward, and in a sense the least important part of it all. Very simply, what I did was to make a solemn promise to my best friend (who already knew about my struggles) that if I ever watched porn or orgasmed to masturbation, I would tell him what had happened in detail, and donate a substantial amount of money to the charity of my choice. This arrangement would last for an entire month, after which I had the option of discussing with him a different strategy or changing the approach.
Knowing myself, I knew that once I had made this promise, I would definitely honor it. And so, from that point on I was in a very interesting psychological state, in which in a way I had ceased to struggle against pornography. It's almost as if before I was telling myself: "don't do it! You shouldn't do it!" and then having to fight against the resistance this created in myself, whereas now, I was telling myself: "You want to do it? Fine! Go ahead and watch porn. Do it if you want. Just know that when you do, you will have to pay a substantial amount of your savings to your friend." And after this, I simply wasn't tempted to do it anymore. Now, of course for the first weeks I had urges, but resisting them was not a problem anymore. It took away the charge of doing something "forbidden" from it.
I have stopped counting how many days I have been PMO free. It's been since mid-december 2023 and honestly, I don't really care. I can truly say that my life has been completely transformed, and this has been one of the most meaningful things I have done in my life. I am extremely grateful at this new opportunity for living.
I hope any of what I have said makes sense to you, and if it doesn't, I hope you find something else that does. I'd be happy to answer any questions in the comments. I left out many details because otherwise the post would have been even longer.

As we near the end of another IPL cycle of 3 years, with MI lying in the weeds with a wooden spoon in their hand yet again for the second time in 3 years, I cant help but think of reasons why a champion franchise like MI would perform the way it did in this cycle. While some questions have obvious answers that we are all aware of, there are some questions to ponder. Some strategies need to be discussed to correct the course MI has taken in the past 3 years or so. With that in mind, I thought of analysing the only team in IPL I have followed since its inception. Feel free to add your opinion as no answer is right or wrong and everything can be improved upon no matter how much we agree or disagree with it.

GLORIOUS 2018-21 SQUAD
- MI had, undeniably, the greatest ever squad to have played T20 in 2020. The team could have given any team a run for their money and rightly did so. A squad that was freshly built in 2018 was improved upon in 2019 and perfected in 2020. But its interesting to note that the same squad failed to even reach the playoffs in 2021 where fresh auction was not held due to covid.
- One of the reasons for the same has been the famous phenomenon of starting slow everytime the team plays. By the time the '21 season was cut in half due to rising covid cases, the team had started winning after yet another slow start only to be stopped right when they were glowing hot and red. As IPL cricket resumed after a rather long break, the team started slowly once again - the result being that the team had to win the last match in a mere 5-6 odd overs to qualify for the playoffs.
- The expected happened and the team was out of the race. This signaled the end of a wonderful 4 years for the team having played really nicely with no serious questions to ask at the end of any season.
- High on the success of the previous 4 years, the think tank had other serious questions to ask i.e. RETENTIONS. A squad that had proven internationals like Boult, Bumrah, de Kock, Rohit, Pollard, Hardik to name a few along with rising stars or players with good calibre like Ishan, SKY, Krunal, Rahul Chahar amongst others, it was obvious that the management was sure to let go of players who could win you most matches if not the whole tournament.
- The retentions, to a large part, played a part in the 2022 blunder. Rohit and Bumrah were going to be obvious choices to get retained. The 3rd Indian player was going to be tricky with Hardik and SKY playing a tug of war here. SKY prevailed and no one realised that this decision which is the best in its own right would come to bite the "one family" later.
- The 4th retention was going to be either an Indian player or an overseas one. Pollard, Boult and de Kock looked to be the 3 competing here with Pollard getting the nod ahead of the others. This decision in hindsight started the downfall of the team for multifold reasons; Boult who was one of the best overseas bowlers was sure to get a good cheque at the auction but would Pollard who was struggling since many years in large parts have got that? Would Pollard have gone for more than the 8cr of Boult or 6.75cr of Quinton? This can be highly debated! The retention also showed that the owners favoured loyalty to an extent and not the slot the retention would fill in. Favouritism prevailed over strategy.
- Sigh! Need I say more? We were lost for words and didnt even know whom to blame after the auction concluded. Letting go off all the players who were released and signing a bowler who was not going to play until the next season killed the season that was to be played. Being farsighted in such situations is nothing but a doom for anyone and mumbai dug their grave easily here.
- Such was the misery of the squad that the team had just one, yes, just one batsman with good international experience in Rohit. The team had Ishan and SKY, both of whom had little to no experience internationally.
- Bumrah was the sole bowler with match experience (forget international exposure) and the ever unreliable Unadkat adding whatever weight to the bowling.
- The all rounders had potential in Pollard and Tim David and rising stars like Brewis and Tilak, but drafting a playing XI out of these was tricky considering the squad had only one proper wicket keeper in Ishan and one part time keeper in Tristan Stubbs who can also roll his arms and an unknown talent in Aryan Juyal who could keep.
- This squad was a result of some failed signings and questionable strategies at the auction. Money management took a back step too in a squad where a whooping 73.50cr were spent on 7 players, 12.70cr were spent on another 7 players and just 3.7cr on the remaining 11 players.
- The inevtiable happened. Mumbai lost 8 matches in a row. Injuries to SKY, Bumrah, Mills and inconsistent runs for almost all the players who played ensured that the team had their worst season until then.
- Pollard failed to score, Rohit had yet another underwhelming season with the bat which came into limelight with the others struggling.
- Brewis and Tilak were the only saving grace along with Tim David who showed his talent towards the back end of the season.
- The aftermath of the then worst season saw KP retire just before the mini auction but would have been released and potentially not bought back again. Other players who were released were mostly bowlers who had failed to perform. All in all, expected decisions were taken and a purse of 20.5cr was available. The management went through some changes which were going to be categorised as major ones in the year to come. Mr. Boucher, you reading this?
- Cameron Green was signed for a whooping 17.5cr! A squad which needed 9 players, this decision all but ensured that the team had to be go for 20L signees yet again as the team only had 1.5cr left for 7 players after Jhye Richardson was questionably bought for 1.5cr. Piyush ate 0.5cr as 5 other players were bought for 20L each. A poor auction yet again.
- Green's inclusion posed a few questions in addition to his high fees. One of them was his spot. A team which didnt have the services of Bumrah was sure to field two overseas fast bowlers considering that the Indian fast bowlers again had no experience whatsoever.
- This meant that the team would likely open with Rohit and Ishan with SKY and Tilak follow suit. The middle order would largely be centered around Tim David now and the tail which would have 2 overseas fast bowlers and atleast 1 indian spinner in Chawla. So the team could either field Green or Brewis who had played well in '22.
- The "17.5cr decision" made sense for Green to play as the 4th overseas player but the team neither had a spot at the opening for him nor would Green fit himself in the middle order. This called for one more sacrifice at the top order which already had no Brewis. All in all, Green didnt exactly fit in the spots available up for grabs for the team at the time.
- This conundrum bought its fair share of good results too. MI discovered Wadhera, solidified Tilak, bought Ramandeep to the forefront in the limited opportunity he got and Bumrah's absence pushed Madhwal into limelight.
- With nothing to lose, these players ensured that a simple looking outfit trounced other biggies to enter the playoffs. Luck played its part too but eventually ran out in the 2nd qualifier. This season again posed thge same questions which the management had failed to learn the previous year.
- Green's spot would have pushed the management to think of replacing him with an Indian all rounder which would open up an overseas slot. And whom does the team chase this time - none other than the talent they had unearthed for a mere 10L exactly a decade ago**.**
- Hardik had moved on from being a middle order all rounder to a captain of a new team. He had played in the top order and had led the team to two consecutive finals, where they won the first and lost the second. For any professional to change their organisation at this level calls for the same position or a better one and a hike in the money paid. Junior Pandya got both fulfiled and this was the third nail in the coffin for the team in hindsight.
- The management underestimated Rohit Sharma's support. A team which had seen captainship being passed on from an aging god to a champion captain with no form to a once vice-captain of a defunct team, the passing of the baton seemed easy. But a big battle lay ahead as a large part of the cricketing fanbase stood by the captain who had led India to the finals of the WTC and the WC only to fall short to one batsman on both occasions. It was too late when the captain stripped of his duties was appointed the national captain of the same format. A strategy of "moving on" because the captain wasnt contributing with the bat quickly changed into a rude and an uncalled decision in a jiffy.
- Rohit clearly had the support of the players in the squad and add to it the poor handling of the decision enraged the fanbase to the extremes where fans wished for the team to lose all matches. Lets not go into details here as we all are aware of what happened next!
- The auction was a saving grace this time around. Coetzee and Madhushanka were smart buys and so were the Indian signees. Nabi added the final touch to the squad as he could be used in multiple roles. This auction strategy is something the team dearly missed in 2022 with experts labeling it as the best in the auction.
- The team handling left a lot to be desired though. No definitive roles, poor bowling which included wayward lines and length and undue changes in the playing XII can nicely sum up this season.
- Hardik went on from being cheered during the WC to being booed relentlessly in a matter of days. The aftermath of the captaincy change went from being "an expected one" to "highly toxic" within a few days. While it is understandable for fans of a player to revolt against the management, fans of the team too followed after a range of questionable tactics.
- Players didnt have a set spot to play throughout the tournament barring Rohit and Ishan who even lost his spot in the last match. Batsmen simply played anywhere as and when the management demanded. From being benched to playing as an impact player in the same match within 2 overs, Brevis saw it all. Bumrah was used as a floater in the bowling department! Luke Wood bowled the first and the last over in a match and was criminally underused while Nabi played with him neither getting a proper go with the bat nor with the ball. Shepherd played only one impactful inning and was experimented with his bowling otherwise.
- A team which fielded only 2 overseas players when they had the option of fielding two more is an outright blunder. Having a batting coach who was one dimensional in his own batting is a blunder. Swapping a bowling coach with all the tactics in his arsenal with the bowling coach of another team who relied only on his yorkers was a blunder. Signing a head coach whose team has lost to an associate nation a couple of years ago was a blunder.
- If 2022 was considered the worst season for MI until then, 2024 could easily take the spot now. All the players in 2022 had played to their potential and none could be blamed for the results back then. But with 2024 performance, a lot of potential was left untapped, a lot of ifs and buts take precedence over yes and surely. All these points pointing to one and one direction only - the Boucher-Pandya partnership.
