2024.06.02 09:03 Shot-Jellyfish8910 Question about NYC

So, I want to write a fanfic for a fandom set in NY (not marvel), and I have never set foot in the US. I need a list of possible crime-ridden districts or abandon neighbourhoods, myths, gangs, and things like that. I don’t want to just write Queens or downtown Manhattan only to find out I’m wrong.
I've been studying the NY map and searching for statistics, but everything that I have come across is based on the 90s and early 2000s events and all of its cliches about Queens or Brooklyn at best (you get the idea). I need something more authentic and more detailed.
I would appreciate if you could give me some info or even some source to dig into.

2024.06.02 07:38 cmae1186 Looking to ease anxiety

We are approaching our second egg retrieval (10 days until baseline). My doctor removed the clomid, kept the provera, increased the Gonal from 350 to 450, and added low dose HCG. We ended up with 5 eggs last time, 3 were mature, all three fertilized, 2 made it to blastocyst and both were euploid. I am not too sure what to expect from this as I don’t know what side effects I could get from the hcg, though I was fine with the pregnyl trigger last time.
After the retrieval, I will have a uterine polyp removed, which the doctor said could have been my biggest problem in the first place because it was acting like a bit of an IUD. We had the choice between getting it removed first and then trying naturally again for a while or going to IVF, which they recommended due to my age (37.5) but we will never know if it was necessary to spend the money to do the IVF or if we could have tried unassisted longer. It was a bit of a hard decision and I’ll never know if it was the right one.
Since we have the two embryos frozen, regardless of the results of the second egg retrieval, we can proceed to transfer in early August. I am starting to really look forward to it. But then as soon as I get excited I get nervous. I see people posting about their multiple failed transfers, chemical, and ectopic pregnancies. I think about my two precious embryos and I could lose them and I’m pretty scared now.
Should I really start an exercise regiment now or something? What can I do?

2024.06.02 07:06 Ok-Selection2417 Received a random package addressed to me

Hi everyone. I received a random package addressed to me from what appears to be a real name and address in Brooklyn, NY. I didn’t open the package because I was sketched out but I am worried as to why it was sent to me. Does not appear to be a brushing scam as it has a real return address and is not from Amazon or a retailer. Even weirder, when I looked up the return address on Google Earth, Zillow, Redfin and other similar sites, images of the house are blurred out and there are no images of it at all anywhere online. The package is from USPS and I received an email with tracking info a few days before delivery. Could this possibly be associated with identity theft or some kind of identity scam?
Please provide any info you can on what this may be!
Thank you!!!

THIS JUST IN: Assemblymember Emily Gallagher’s “Red Light” Scandal and Coverup to have Major Implications in Upcoming Assembly Election
As has recently been widely reported (including in this subreddit), our Assemblymember Emily Gallagher has an extensive record of illegal parking and running red lights, all while campaigning to Make McGuinness Safe from cars running red lights and killing people.
But Emily’s lying to cover up her dangerous driving record and mislead her constituents is going to have both legal and political implications on our upcoming election for New York Assembly. Particularly, Emily’s false statements on her official TwitteX account about her driving record (including that she had “just some parking tickets”) are going to come back on her hard.
I’ve heard from sources familiar with Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez’s operations that the Brooklyn DA is opening a felony criminal investigation into Emily Gallagher’s falsification of official records (in this case her official TwitteX account statements) in an attempt to fraudulently influence her upcoming election for NY Assembly. These are the same felonies that Trump was just convicted on this week in Manhattan.
The thinking among key decision makers is that bringing this case against Emily Gallagher, a Socialist Democrat, can be used to deflect criticism (mostly from Republicans) that these NY felony falsification of records laws were only used just to get Trump. Thus, this coming indictment is believed to help Joe Biden get reelected. It is also believed that this is such an easy and obvious case of false statements and election interference that the indictment can definitely be brought (and Emily possibly convicted) before the November presidential election.
It is unlikely, however, that the grand jury indictment process can be finalized before the upcoming Democratic Primary election on June 25. As such, there is now great concern that our Democratic nominee for NY Assembly (if Emily Gallagher) could be an indicted and convicted felon by the end of this year.
Do we really want the Democratic nominee to be someone who is going to have (like Trump) a felony conviction hanging over her head? More importantly, do we want a likely to be convicted felon representing us in Greenpoint?
I expect the major publications to pick up on these serious allegations in the coming weeks. But as a concerned Greenpoint resident and constituent, I wanted to share this important information for my fellow constituents to consider as the Democratic Primary election rapidly approaches on June 25. For these reasons, I definitely will NOT be voting for Emily Gallagher for NY Assembly.

2024.06.02 03:50 clever_usernameno4 Want to be in Europe, stuck in US. Help me find a state please?

Hi. I’m a New Yorker in California. I made a huge mistake. I came here from NY because it has the alternative type medicine I need for some chronic illness I’d like to heal. Only problem? Since I’m not working, I can’t find a safe place to live. People do not care here about what you’re going through, or verifying that you can pay in other ways besides 3x pay stubs. To that end, I’ve actually been paying MORE per month, staying in various temp places. I’ve become much sicker doing this and I can’t stay in CA without help that does t seem available. I’m going to run out my savings that way.
I need a state where it is not so hard to find a rental by myself or a room that is not gross (because that’s what I’m living in right now in California, and most of what’s been offered without pay stubs). The state should also have access to alternative medical care, like naturopathic doctors. I can’t be in a place with really horrible quality air.
The only place I have a dear friend who would rent a place with me is in Cincinnati, OH. And from my research, it doesn’t appear to have much alternative care (a tiny bit), govt programs are being stripped, and the area doesn’t have the greatest air, though that’s negotiable for me because it’s not BAD.
Truly, I want to live in Europe. Better food systems. Better medical systems. But I can’t access any of it because I don’t have the ability to get a work visa. It’s like if you get sick you’re worthless to the systems we live among, so they don’t care if you die.
Thank you for any suggestions of places. I am looking to move ASAP.

2024.06.02 02:50 Zestyclose-Oil-4049 Early ultrasound

Found out I was pregnant on May 16 after my period was a week or so late (do not know dates, but know I bought tampons on April 8, so assuming that was my last period). Doc brought me in for HCGs on 5/23 (1500) and 5/25 (2400). Had a gush of blood on 5/30. Went to doctor on 5/31 where HCG was 11,000. They did ultrasound where they saw a gestational sac measuring 5 weeks 5 days. No fetal pole or sac. I know it’s early based on the measurement. But does this sound familiar to any of you? I have a history of losses but they were much more cut and dry (no heartbeat at 16w; then heavy, heavy bleeding at 7w with no heartbeat detected and a” grossly misshapen sac”). I’m worried, but it just doesn’t seem like my HCG is rising quickly and I’m honestly not sure how I’d only be 5 weeks 5 days. It seems unlikely that I caught it at 3 weeks, to be honest.

2024.06.02 02:23 Shot-Amphibian1939 Trying to Conceive with Retained Product

I had a D&C on April 22nd and got an ultrasound after and there was about 2cm of retained product. The doctor told me it should come out with my period. I then had my period on May 23rd and it was heavier than usual. I went back for an ultrasound yesterday and there was 1cm of retained product. However, my HCG levels went to 3.9 and I’m testing negative on pregnancy tests. The doctor told me that some retained product/blood is normal and it may just be absorbed but what matters is my HCG level being below 5. He cleared me to start trying to conceive. Has anyone had a similar experience? I’m afraid if I start trying, it will result in another miscarriage due to my retained product.

2024.06.02 02:18 Clean-Instruction-53 What Philly neighborhoods should I look into?

Hi! Looking to move to the NE, I love NY (specifically Brooklyn - bedstuy, crown heights, ridegewood) but don't know if I want to pay NY prices.
I'd be looking to rent an apartment, max would be $2500. It's myself (30 f), my partner (34 f) and two cats. Some things I love about NY were how dense it feels, the walkability, the cultural diversity, the parks, the historical buildings, the food/bar scene. I work from home, my partner is in healthcare and would likely end up working at children’s hospital of Philadelphia.
I've never been to philly and am planning a trip soon to explore. Any recommendations are much appreciated. Thank you!

2024.06.02 02:10 EstateReasonable922 I feel scared and embarrassed.

Hi everyone,
I am officially 1 week and 3 days post op. I feel great physically but mentally?? Wow.
Firstly, they made a mistake on my sonogram and wrote intrauterine sac found in the endometrium findings. This sonogram was done day of the surgery and I just happened to go through the test results a few days ago. Can i tell you the intense anxiety and chest pains i felt when i read that? I initially tried to brush it off. Surely, they would have let me know in the ER the same day i ruptured that they saw that?
Well my OCD wouldn’t let me live it down, i tried to contact the radiologist that dictated and signed off and couldn’t get in contact for at least three days, i kept trying to contact the surgery team cause surely they would have known too but i couldn’t get ahold of anyone.
at that point i just went in to the ER cause i was a nervous wreck Cause i was still testing positive for pregnancy ( which i know you can after surgery, i guess i assumed I’d get a negative test) Sobbing in front of the doctors and nurses because at that point i just didn’t know if i was pregnant or not. all the intrusive thoughts were flooding me and i just had to know for sure if it was actually a mistake.
Thankfully, yes, it was a dictation error. I’m not mad at the radiologist, mistakes happen and I know the most cause of concern in that moment was my ruptured pregnancy. (hcg is going down btw two days ago they tested me and it was at a 9) but man, the intense anxiety of what if it was just a ovarian cyst that ruptured and i was actually pregnant on top of them giving methotrexate? I just couldn’t handle it. they said my fear was completely warranted and normal after reading a mistake like that but with my already intense anxiety it just was a lot.
The next day i hurt my rib I’m not sure how, I might’ve strained it but it hurt so bad to breathe in that i just had a virtual urgent care visit, which then led the urgent care doctor to say to go to the ER to rule out pulmonary embolism since it was a risk since i had surgery / was pregnant. everything came back clear but then all of that just sent me to be overwhelmed and constant needing reassurance again.
i was stressing so bad that my platelets were at 502 and that jumped from 478 the day before. i don’t know if that’s also something i should be concerned about but it was fluctuating between 400-430 before surgery so maybe its just surgery related.
But since having this surgery, and intense just scare after scare after scare, i just honestly feel so concerned about everything revolving my health.
It makes me so sad cause I’ve worked so entirely hard on my health anxiety prior to this that i feel like it all went back down the drain and I’m spiraling again. Has anyone felt this way after surgery? It just sucks, it makes me feel like something’s going to happen to me again and i just sit and cry.
My boyfriend now lives states away and my family is helpful but its just lonely when no one else can actually relate.
I’m just so lost, i want to be healthy, i want to feel normal again. I am so sad and just so down lately it’s hard to get out of this cycle and slump.

2024.06.02 02:09 nothingbutroublex Heavy bleeding and no fetal pole..

Hi everyone,
25f. Doing IVF for genetic reasons. We transferred a frozen 4AB, euploid embryo on May 7th.
My betas were good, beta #1 at 9dp5dt was 324, and beta #2 at 11dp5dt was 654.
Everything seemed to be going well, and then today I woke up to a GUSH of bright red blood. It soaked through my pants and everything. I got in the shower and started clotting really heavily, so I called my clinic and they said to head to the ER. There was a lot of blood and I passed a lot of fairly large clots.
When I got to the ER, my HCG was 53,030. I had a transvaginal ultrasound which revealed multiple cysts on each of my ovaries and a large subchorionic hemorrhage.
There was a gestational sac, but no fetal pole and no heart beat. They said there was a possible yolk sac.
The doctor said with an HCG of 53,030 there definietly should have been a heart beat, but when I called my clinic back my Dr. Said it was still early and that I shouldn’t worry.
I can’t help but think it’s over for us..
I have a follow up at my clinic on Monday, but I’m just feeling devastated..

2024.06.02 01:37 gvanerey The familiar faces of perfect strangers

Hey. Can’t believe I’ve found myself on the spirituality subreddit but here we are. I have some lore for you to explore and dig into with your own minds and experiences if you wish.
Is there ever a total stranger you see a lot of at random times and in random places? There’s no mistaking that it’s the same person you keep running into over and over again… but the thing is there’s no reason for you to see them when and where you do.
I have seen an actor I recognized who shall remain nameless all the time in NYC (mostly in Manhattan) when I lived in Brooklyn. I mean a couple times a week. No tethers, no interpretable schedule overlap, but I get how this can be somewhat understandable in NYC. These “sightings” would be at random restaurants, spots, streets, theaters, etc. I moved out of the city, and then I saw him on Fire Island a handful of times over a weekend off LI NY a few years back, but that could easily be explained away- holiday weekend, LGBT community is small, whatever. Then I saw him at Universal Studios Orlando the following year. Weird. Then I saw him on a flight to Miami last year as I was walking to my seat. Now I just saw him in a Whole Foods in CT and we made eye contact and it lingered; not in a flirtatious way but in the way that I knew that he recognized me too. We see each other a lot less often now, but we were both definitely surprised tonight.
I am a solid agnostic. These aren’t delusions or daydreams or anything of that sort. I wouldn’t even say I was a fan of his work- besides the fact that I constantly ran into him and it was perplexing. When I first saw him it didn’t go beyond a “oh that’s that guy from that thing, cool, NYC is cool”.
Does anyone have any insight into this in a more… spiritual light?
NYC, FL, LI, CT. The world is very small.
I should’ve said hi.

2024.06.02 01:31 FriedNippleShrimp How to know my MA worked?

Just started my MA today 5w3d and I am beyond terrified that I’ll go through it only to find out x many weeks later it failed and I’m still pregnant.
How can I be SURE it worked? And how can I get that information? Who can I go to?
I know the blood Hcg will continually drop, so it’s an option to monitor that… I know some but not all people get ultrasounds afterwards, I don’t know how to get one because the doctors have been really weird about it… I know urine will stay positive for a while….
Planned Parenthood has been weird about helping me if I started an MA with someone besides them and AidAccess has been extremely cryptic in their replies to my questions.
I need this to work. I am thoroughly traumatized by the idea alone of pregnancy due to something that happened to me years ago. Please help me.

It's been quite a year. I found out I had testicular cancer early in the year, and had a bit of an atypical discovery. I had pain in the left testicle the suddenly set on one morning, that was quite severe. I was sent to ER to get checked for torsion and kidney stones. They found a lesion on my left testicle (turned out to be yolk sac tumor) on the ultrasound, and a 1.6cm "non-specific adrenal nodule" on the ER CT scan. Thats when I learned the term "adrenal incidentaloma" (AI)
I was told the AI was probably nothing, and the "99.9% malignancy" should be priority, which makes sense to me. The testicle was removed, and later pathology showed it was 90% yolk sac tumor, 10% teratoma.
The oncologist had me repeat the CT with contrast approximately a month later. No spread indicated, thank goodness! I was designated Stage 1a, and entered active surveillance. The radiologist said "1.8cm adrenal nodule that appears size stable and may represent an adenoma". While "may represent an adenoma" sounds good, I don't know if that's "take it to the bank" wording.
Regarding the AI, my oncologist said to not be too concerned as we'll be doing CTs with contrast every six months anyway. The blood work showed "no concerning abnormalities". I did the dexamethasone suppression test, plasma free metanephrines, aldosterone and renin. I may have forgotten one there - I'm no doctor! - but I was told it was the standards for checking for checking for function. Additionally, due to losing a testicle, I have had sex hormones checked. Testosterone is on the lower end of normal (285), luteinizing hormone a little high (not much but technically high - I think reference range peaked at 9.4 and I was 10), everything else in the panel they did was normal. Furthermore, my oncologist said testicular cancer is not known to metastasize to the adrenal glands
For what it's worth, being in active surveillance for TC recurrence, I get my blood checked a lot (CBC, CMP, AFP, beta-HCG, LDH). They've been great! FWIW, I did have mildly elevated AFP pre-orchiectomy. It is now below detectable limits.
I was wondering if just rolling with the CT with every six months seems like an OK plan. The AI was spotted when I was 39.5. I remember reading under 40 is uncommon, but I am barely under 40. According to my doctors, I have no symptoms that seem correlated to the AI. I do have high blood pressure (I'm overweight), but it is well controlled with medicines.
Additionally, I have had a history of thyroid nodules so I do see an endocrinologist yearly. I'm seeing her Friday. I know, why post now. Well, to be honest, it's been quite a year and I'm stressed out about it. Having the appointment on the books brought it back to the forefront of my mind, Having had cancer, it's made it hard to "relax" about my health. While I do sincerely want some input on it, maybe a part of me just needs a hug, too.

2024.06.02 00:20 InjurySmall8828 Had laparoscopic myomectomy on 5/31/24

I wanted to document my journey for you guys so you know what to expect and what to anticipate. The last 4 years I had been dealing with heavy periods like most of you. Extremely heavy periods and clots every month. I needed a blood & iron transfusion last October because I was walking around with a 4 hemoglobin. I thought I was losing my mind til I found out I had a fibroid. My gyno didn’t bother to check if I had one when I first addressed the concerns. It was when I was admitted to the hospital that they did their own exams and found it. So once I told my gyno then she recommended my doctor that did the minimally invasive surgery with the davinci robotic arm. If you live in NY especially Long Island I highly recommend Dr.Sticco. He did a great job. I didn’t feel anything during my surgery to be honest I remember switching from the bed to the operating table and that’s it. I woke up in pain and they gave me Motrin, Tylenol and OxyContin for the pain. I was able to leave the same day. It the surgery was long but there were a lot of people getting surgery that day for different stuff. My partner thinks my surgery took 4/5 hours I thought it would take 2hrs. Today is my first day since the surgery yesterday and yeah there pin and discomfort but I am able to move around and still do things. The surgeon also found endometriosis and removed it as well. I discussed him pushing in my stomach to removed excess gas after surgery cause I saw someone else mention their doctor did it for them on here and it helped. I also discussed possible blood and iron transfusion if necessary. I didn’t need it though. My bandages are like a clear glue they are waterproof. As well as the 5 incisions I have on top of my abdomen he also went vaginally to remove the fibroid. I only had one that was 4.7 cm. It was a submucosal one. You can YouTube a video of this to get a better idea. Tbh it just feels like I gave birth or was kicked I the stomach. It’s not super painful the only one that really bothers me out of all my incisions is the one in my belly button to fill my abdomen with air. That one hurts. I had some bleeding after surgery the first night now today I don’t have any. I’m hopeful that none of this will return and I can start to heal and take my life back. I’m an extremely active person. These last for years I’ve been living a pretty debilitated life because of the lack of blood and the heavy bleed monthly. I’d have to stay home completely the week of my period and wear diaper sized pads. Sex was painful for me as well. I’ll come back in a few days and let you know how I’m feeling some more. So far so good. I’d highly recommend it if you are considering it. Don’t be scared and don’t settle from one doctor. There are people who take this serious and have to tools/ resources to help you. Any questions I’m happy to answer them

2024.06.01 23:06 Ok_Zone_2149 TRT prescriptions and diagnosis in Canada (BC). Primary or clinic?

I am very ignorant to how our medical system works.. I am not on any medications, and my only real interactions with doctors is through broken bones or emergency visits from sports or accidents.
34/male. Working, with extended benefits.and fairly active in the gym. Reading up on low T symptoms, this is something that describes me almost exactly. At least 90% of symptoms I'm reading of on reddit and your typical Google searches. Enough so that I definitely want to explore this.
I do have a primary care physician that I could talk to but I also have access to a local trt clinic.
What is my best course of action? What would you do?
The trt clinic does a complete blood work panel along side a saliva hormone test. Plus all the follow ups and adjustments etc. My physician has recently changed as the old one retired and I have zero relationship established there. No idea the quality of his practice.
If I were diagnosed and deemed that it would be if benefit.. Some questions I have for people who are on TRT.
If I use a clinic. Would the prescription be covered by extended as if it would if my pcp prescribed it?
Are clinics generally higher quality in their support? I can get into the clinic much quicker than my physician. It's currently a month to get a phone in appt with my pcp, and 6 weeks or so for in person. The clinic on the other hand is a 2 week wait list for in person appt. It appears to be a men's only health clinic. Circumcision, vasectomy, hair loss treatment, TRT, etc. Maybe this is the norm for these places? I have no idea.
All things equal in practice,, are clinics or pcp generally more desirable to use? Is it worth the wait to try and get the ball rolling with my pcp and see what they can do?
If I start with a clinic, am I stuck? I feel like it would make it much more difficult to get it through my pcp in the future. But maybe not?
Anyone diagnosed with low T, get on trt and then decide they dislike it? What has the journey been like? Did you come off? Do you feel trapped on it? We're you offered HCG and did you take it or no?
I mostly just want to go about it all the most reccomended way by people who have been there. I dont know yet if I am a candidate. I came across the symptom list one day and had a "Holy ****, all of those are what I struggle with..." moment and want to pursue it. Just want to be prepared and know what I'd be getting into if I am diagnosed..

2024.06.01 22:53 ThrowRArageous-241 Want to know if I f26 should continue with my boyfriend m38 or just leave?

I 26f dating 38m for about 6 months who divorced a year and few months ago his 40f ex-wife after cheating with someone else and moved from NY to FL. His daughters were pregnant one of them gave their mother full custody of her baby after birth and the other daughter wanted her dad to be present when she had the baby so she decided to move to FL since her father could not travel to NY due to work. His daughter moved to his apartment since she doesn't have a place to stay but his ex wife came 3 days later and has been staying at his apartment with the other grand child while he's sleeping in the sofa. When his ex wife came from NY she said it was going to be no more than a month since she was already looking for a place to buy or rent. She has said several times that she wants to get back with him even though she is aware of his relationship with me and has been told by him several times he does not want to be with her no more. It's been 2 months already and his ex-wife has not gotten a place, made him loose his job to take both baby's to doctors appointments since she moved to FL. When ever he wants to talk with me he either comes over to my house or calls me when he is alone. At the beginning he used to text me even though she was around but after the second week he began to change communicating less and the two times I've broken up with him he just tells me that she is "looking for a place" to just give her time because he's not kicking her out because of the grand child but he didn't divorce her until their youngest child turned 18 since he wanted to be around his kids. He told me a few times I could find someone better than him but when I break up with him he just looks for ways to convince me not to leave. Should I just break up with him and block him so that he does not try to convince me to stay or wait that his ex-wife finds a place? Is there a probability that since he is really closed with his grand baby the ex-wife will use the baby to make him stay like he did before divorcing her, because he waited until the youngest one turned 18 even though he hadn't been feeling any attraction for her about 4 years before the divorce?

2024.06.01 21:41 CodeTailor Severing tax ties with new york using escapees. Do I have to go to the same county that they have the physical address in to do things?

I currently live in new york and work remotely. I want to move to no income state tax like florida or texas for a month, with Airbnb. However I don't plan to stay at the address, just stay long enough to establish my domicile then hop around airbnbs or maybe vanlife. Therefore I'm thinking when I move there to florida or texas, actually use a virtual mailbox address for my payroll, my taxes, my drivers license, banking, everything. I heard that escapees is good because they can set me up with a legit physical address for the paperwork.
How can I do this legit so I can sever tax ties with NY? I don't want tax man after me. I read on the escapees guide that I have to go make "professional appointments" doctors etc in the same county as their physical address. Is that true?
Those counties look terrible to live in, but I would be ok with making connections and airbnbing in the same state, but not the same county. Is it necessary same county? How long do I have to be there?
Would an airbnb stay in the same state as the escapees address be useful for documentation for anything? Or I literally just need to set up escapees documentation and show up for DMV and other appointments?
