2022.09.18 23:08 Throwaway3542761 I was wrong, Steel Division 2 is BETTER

Hello, I have just under 1,500 hours in WG:RD. I have played it on and off since 2016 I think. I have made WG:RD videos, I have even sat in this subreddit typing out stupidly long replies to posted decks and once upon a time I even went 1v1 against a dude to prove I was right about how shit his deck was.
I love WG:RD. But man, after 1,500 hours and many years, I'm just tired. Plus I think there's been a subtle meta shift over the last year towards spamming lower cost units on the ground and then buying as many planes as possible which makes the game less enjoyable imo.
So I decided last week to try Steel Division 2, a game I have long lampooned as the joke of the eugen catalogue. Trash! TRASH! I would declare when asked for my opinion on the matter. No longer.

Superior! SUPERIOR! That is what SD2 is.
Ah, what a breath of fresh air. Detailed, involved infantry combat. Yes, perhaps a little rock, paper, TNT, but still far more interesting and complex experience that WG:RD, with units simply standing still or moving if they have SMGs. Here you really have to factor in the array of ranges, cqc squads like avtomatchiki require careful planning and micro in their use against longer range squads, sneaking through towns to spring the trap. The satisfaction when engineers go boom, the joy of a triple mg squad holding down an open approach to a wood or town. Sneaking through smoke and trees to chuck an AT grenade at a tank who got a bit too close. That's another thing, not having everyone walkign around with a 700 meter AT weapon makes balancing the units you bring with AT and without more important, plus they generally need much more careful use due to shorter ranges. And the supression mechanic and surrender mechanic mean good infantry micro is actually rewarded. In WG:RD, good infantry micro comes down to toggling AT/MG and spamming right click in town bloacks.
Tanks are a lot more fun. Much like how I lamented the loss of vehicles going boom when 7th edition became 8th, here too I enjoy that if you penetrate, you can one shot a tank, because of course that should be possible. Tanks also feel a lot more impactful in a battlefield where ATGMd aren't coming in from ground and air assets. If your opponent calls in a king tiger, you can't just call in a peace rhine. Also not being able to move through dense forest. Used to hate it, now that I'm used to it, it makes for more interesting gameplay, you can't just park a tank anywhere.
Speaking of air, that's more involved as well. I'd say the fighter play is less complex than WG:RD, but the ground attack experience is a lot better, mostly because gettign around AA is harder here.
Maybe having your plaes just call off an attack is annoyign sometimes, but it rewards those who build a solid AA net and punishes those who don't, whereas in WG:RD you can always take the gamble of losing an ATGM plane while trying to kill a superheavy, because it will likely get killed after it has done it's job, not before.
Arty spam, still a bit of an issue, but less egregious. The building of a radio net adds another layer to arty play.
The leadership mechanic is just non-existent in WG:RD, having officers and a commande rbuffing troops is such a better way of integrating that aspect of war than command vehicles and zones.
Speaking of which, the frontline makes more sense, the flags are always points of interest, and it's a lot more fun fighting for the actual control of significant territory than fighting to have your cv hidden in arbitrary box while makign sure your opponent's cv isn't.
No Helicopters. Not one. No Helicopter rushes. No dumb helicopter sneaking round the ocean that makes up half the map, killing your cv and denying you reinforcements. Yay.
No Naval.
Offmap Artillery. Very fun, not too punishing, makes sense in the setting. Takes time from calling in to rounds landing, so there's always a chance the enemy might move. You get banalnced options with the longer call times beign more effective and accurate, and if you need it now now now you can have it pretty quickly, but it's going to be spread over a very large area, being less effective and maybe hitting your guys too.
The automatic commands that I used to demean as hand-holding nonsense that cheapened the experience? Don't care. Haven't used them once, and if my opponents use them, good for me, cause the ai is worse than a player. The counterbattery one doesn't even seem to work properly, and if you're good with moving your arty, it shouldn't matter anyway.
Oh and by the way. The AI might be worse than a player, but it's lightyears ahead of WG:RD's AI, lightyears. Solo skirmishes are actually pretty fun, the AI is never going to be too much of a challenge but it's still engaging.
Breakthrough. What a fun gamemode.
The campaigns.

I dunno, I've just been havign a hell of a lot of fun with SD2 in a way that I haven't in WG:RD for quite some time tbh. Maybe that's because it's a relatively new game and while I've plateued in WG:rD as being above average, I'm a noob who's learning with every game in SD2.
All that is to say, SD2 has barely any players, the only games you can consistently get are 10v10, so please please please give SD2 a try so I can get more multiplayer 1v1-4v4 games.

2021.01.12 23:42 dirtracer3 VPN to change Location of house

I am looking to install a VPN, i believe directly on the Orbi Router so that I can watch NHLTV and not be bloacked out because of where I am located.
FoxSports is not on my provider. NHL TV will stream my home team game, but not if you are watching it locally, as they think you have FoxSports. A VPN would tell NHLTV my location is somewhere else, thus giving me access to my local sports team.

Any and all help accomplishing this is appreciated. THanks!

2020.09.18 20:41 supertaylor505 Alot of tips i learnt on among us(crewmate and imposter)

Crewmate:
If you see someone take out the trash, do the shootinf minigame or medbays scan, and theres no map interaction, they are probably a imposter
If theres 1 imposter, follow any random person but keep distance. If someobe dies tell everyone that that person isnt the imposter. If you think you might die announce this "im gonna follow (color) and if i die vote him of" if they kill you, they should vote them off. Dont follow them if they interact with the map
You can see if someone vents by going to admin, and wait to see someone teloport/move across the map. Be aware that if anyone moves in a hallway, there icon will disappear.
This tip and the next tip isnt 100% always gonna be true, but every game i have played they have worked. If someone says in chat "vote (colour) if its not them then vote me out" then know matter what, dont vote them out. There probably not lying. And if that person that got voted off isnt an imposter, still dont vote them out, its probably best if you say something like "it cant be them, i saw them in medbay and they did the scanning thing". That gives a chance for them to not vote them out.
This last tip is best for 2 imposters, but does also work with 1 and 3. Pay attention to votes, 1 imposter probobly wont vote skip if theres 3-5 people, and for 2-3 people, if someone says in chat something like "vote green i saw him kill red" and green was the imposter, the other imposters Wont vote for green, they will either skip or vote someone else who was suspicious
Imposter:
If theres 4 people left and someone saw a body and dont know who, say someting like "i saw pink vent" then next round mess with the communications/ o2 or reactor and weight to kill them, if theres less crewmates then imposters you automatically win.
If someone is following you, press the button and say, "black was being sus and following me, not sure if hes imposter tho" this will probably get black kicked out, and even if hes not you will be off the rader because if you was the imposter, why not just kill him.
Look at your basic map, they will still have exclamation marks where your challanges would be, and also if you self report but looked at map before you report them, you will avoid admin lookers saying "knowone even entered medbay"
If you see a camera and its lighr is red, Do Not Kill Anyone. Someone is watching you in security and if theres 1 person it can give you an easy kill
Going crowded areas is actually a good idea, if 4 orbmore people are around 1 spot and you kill someone, knowone arouns would know who did it
Bonus tip 1: dontnplay on europe servers if you get a bloack box everytime you try to join a game
Bonus tip 2 : i thought turning off the lights would be useless, but they allow you to easy kill someone right next to another person.
Risky tip: If your an imposter, you can kill someone straight away in the round ifnits you, and 2 other people. They will say its you but because someone killed fast rhey will most likely say its a self report. Bit risky and can eliminate you fast if not careful.
Tip for playing with friends/over and over again with same people:
People act diffrent when imposter. One time i played with others, purple normaly goes straight to tasks, but when he was imposter he waited for others to move and was too defensive
Mobile tip that hasnt worked for me yet:
If someones standing still and the lights go out, gwnarator overheat ect, it might be them, hasnt worked for me and extremely hard to tell properly but might work for ypu
Bonus text that has no meaning: all of this was found by me apart from the crowded area 1, i forgot where i found it from. And that person probably stole it off another person. Eitherway, use these tips to find whos an imposter, and kill crewmates off

2018.11.20 18:43 TheFiremind88 [Standard]GP Milwaukee PTQ Top 8 with Dredge

Hey all, you may recall a post I made earlier regarding a standard "Dredge" esque list focusing on GY payoffs. I brought the deck to GP Milwaukee, having a rough Day 1, but rebounding in a big way in the PTQ on Sunday.
The list I registered for the GP is as follows:
Creatures - 33
4 Stitcher's Supplier
4 Glowspore Shaman
3 Knight of Malice
4 Merfolk Branchwalker
4 Midnight Reaper
1 Thrashing Brontodon
1 Plaguecrafter
4 Ravenous Chupacabra
3 Golgari Raiders
4 Molderhulk
1 Kraul Foragers
Spells - 6
3 Necrotic Wound
3 Find/Finality
Lands - 21
4 Memorial to Folly
4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Woodland Cemetary
4 Swamp
5 Forest
SB - 15
1 Necrotic Wound
1 Thrashing Brontodon
1 Kraul Foragers
1 Knight of Malice
2 Carnage Tyrant
3 Ritual of Soot
3 Plaguecrafter
3 Duress
This list did ok, but I misjudged what the expected metagame would be. I went 4-4 on the day. I did also get paired against Mono U tempo twice, which is an extremely difficult matchup. They don't want to interact with us in a meaningful way(That kills our creatures). They race faster, draw more cards, and I can never get a busted draw giong, since there isn't a way to get anything to block or be bloacked. At least that's how it feels.
I played mono red 3 times, picking up a loss to some solid draws on their part, and poor mulligan decisions on mine. I also picked up a loss to drakes with MD Murmuring Mystic, and if it sticks that card is very difficult to beat. I could not find removal for it. When I finally did, the Crackling Drake came down and closed the game in 2 turns. That card handily beat me again I believe in G3. My notes aren't excellent. It's a card I didn't anticipate being as large a problem as it was. I assumed having Chups, Wound, and whatnot, I'd be able to keep it under control, i was wrong. I also saw far more of them than I expected.
My wins were against U/R Control, U/B Control, and a pair of Mono Red lists. I never played against the WW/r decks, and saw very few on the day. I also managed to 2-0 the 630 pm standard(Beating Drakes and WW), and took a draw in the 3rd round with Golgari, which we played part of the match out for fun. I got game 1, and narrowly lost G2, we left before playing G3, taking our draw and tix and heading for Dinner, but made a friend and had fun.
The list needed adjustments for sure. I had no real out for the Mystic, MonoU felt unwinnable, and WW was nowhere to be found so the sweet sweet Knight of Malice tech was useless. Back to the lab again.
Here's the adjusted list I played in the PPTQ.
Creatures - 33
4 Stitcher's Supplier
4 Glowspore Shaman
4 Merfolk Branchwalker
1 Kraul Harpooner
4 Midnight Reaper
2 Plaguecrafter
1 Thrashing Brontodon
4 Ravenous Chupacabra
2 Golgari Raiders
4 Molderhulk
2 Kraul Foragers
1 Lotleth Giant
Spells - 6
3 Find/Finality
3 Necrotic Wound
Lands - 21
4 Memorial to Folly
4 Overgrown Tomb
4 Woodland Cemetary
4 Swamp
5 Forest
SB - 15
1 Plague Mare
1 Kraul Foragers
1 Thrashing Brontodon
1 Necrotic Wound
2 Carnage Tyrant
2 Ritual of Soot
2 Plaguecrafter
2 Deathgorge Scavenger
3 Kraul Harpooner
I felt infinitely more prepared for the metagame, and had a better SB Plan for all of my matchups, and really felt I had the tools to be a favorite postboard in nearly any matchup. Now, onto the fun stuff.
Round 1, MonoG Stompy, splash W. From what I can tell, the version Aaron Barich was streaming recently.
I lost the die roll(This will be a theme, I went like 3 and 12 for die rolls over the weekend or something). Game 1 I kept a hand of little dudes. Generally great in the matchup. Unless he plays Steel Leaf Champion early. Supplier doesn't handle this well. I couldn't find any beefy dudes and he played Ferox, Carnage, Carnage, and I was dead. Onto G2. I don't recall the details of Game2 but I wrote down Molderhulk, so pretty sure I ground him out with that guy. Game 3 was pretty bananas. He doesn't make a play til T3 with Steel Leaf. My turns are Shockland, Supplier, mill 2 dudes and a land. T2, Branchwalker, mill a dude. My T3, I start by attacking with supplier, he makes the huge mistake of a block. I hit 3 more dudes on the mill. I play land, Molderhulk for 2, get a land back, Molderhulk for 2 and pass with 15 power on board, out stompying the stompy player. The game was fairly close to over at that point, keeping him on the backfoot and still having cards like Chups and Plaguecrafter to keep his board under control.
1 - 0
R2 was against a Naya Dinos player, running the list discussed on occassion here. Elves, Ripjaw, Clarion, Regi, Carnage Tyrant, etc...I lost game 1(Also a theme) and won Game 2 and 3. I hadn't played these matchups, but the big dumb idiots don't do well against 2 mana big dumb idiots that recur, and chupacabras. I think I'm the favorite in these matchups. Necrotic Wound is also very clutch. Card feels so absurd when you're committed to the mill plan. Molderhulk was again huge in the matchup, it makes Carnage tyrant look actively bad, and most removal doesn't deal with the hulk.
2 - 0
Round 3, pressure is on, could I actually make a run? Paired against G/W Angels. Ho-Ho-Ho, Merry Christmas. As is proper fashion, I lose G1, this time to a double history draw, and I forgot Knight of Grace gets the pump as well and threw away a big Golgari Raiders on a bad block. Games 2/3 didn't feel particularly close. Harpooner, Chupacabra, Ritual, Finality, Wound, Plaguecrafter, Brontodon, all of the cards felt great. Short of the extremely aggressive draws, and not having any good answers, the matchup feels hard to lose. I don't remember how I closed they out, but I remember feeling like I had an answer for everything, including honor guard, who was played against me in both Games 2 and 3.
3 - 0
Round 4, getting into the tier decks/players for sure. Jeskai control is my opponents weapon of choice. I lose game 1 again, keeping a hand that lines up poorly with I believe only small critters, 2 Wounds, and 2 Chups, which end up with 0 targets and I get Teferi'd. I did catch they are on drakes/mizzet however. The SB plan is great. Harpooners, dead cards out, tyrants, plaguecrafter, etc in. Game 2 I had an aggressive play pattern, put him on the back foot. Drake, answered, attacks. Drake, answered, attacks. Teferi, answered, attack. Dead. Had a raider to follow up a sweeper, and an additional plaguecrafter unused. I felt firmly in control. Game 3 was similar. An aggressive draw, I was able to remove his roadblocks, he eventually Nova's my board, and I untap, Find for Raiders, and attack for a billion, game over.
4-0
Round 5 was against Jeskai Control again, and they match played out very similar. I mull to 5 and keep a bad hand game 1, get crushed, SB out bad cards, in good cards, and then get him games 2 and 3. Raiders ended one of the games, and Carnage Tyrant the other. I'm able to draw into the Top8
5-0
The biggest thing I'm happy about with the deck is the ability to SB. The core pieces never leave, and your answers are basically all creatures. The flow of the deck never feels disrupted, but I can easily SB 8+ cards in nearly every matchup.
Against control, down 3 Wound, 3 Chupacabra, 2 Foragers, in 2 Carnage Tyrant, 2 Plaguecrafter, 1 Thrashing Brontodon, 3 Harpooners(Assuming I see Drakes/Niv or suspect them).
Drakes - Out 3 Branchwalker, 2 Foragers, 1 Midnight Reaper, 1 Brontodon, 1 Supplier. In 3 Harpooners, 2 Tyrant, 1 Plague Mare, 1 Necrotic Wound, 1 Plaguecrafter.
MonoR - Out 1 Giant, 2 Raiders, 2 Reaper, 2 Find/Finality IN 1 Wound, 2 Ritual, 1 Forager, 2 Scavenger, 1 Brontodon
Golgari - Out 2 Plaguecrafter, 1 Foragers, 1 Harpooner, 1 Brontodon, IN 1 Wound, 2 Tyrant, 2 Scavenger
MonoU - Out 1 Giant, 2 Molderhulk, 2 Raiders, 2 Reaper, 1 Find/Finality IN 3 Harpooner, 2 Rituals, 2 Plaguecrafter, 1 Wound
That's a loose guide. The top8 of the event ended up being extremely disappointing. I'm 2nd seed, and my round 1 is Drakes. I win Game 1 on the play, the board got gummed up, but Giant for 12 finished him off. Game 2, I cursed my own aprehension. I should have called a judge, but I believe my opponent snuck an extra land into play. I missed when it happened, and felt fairly confidently ahead, so I let it slide. It definitely ended up making a huge difference. I also was still kind of feeling out my SB plan, and had cut a Giant in the post board games. In retrospect I think that's incorrect. Game 3 I did call a judge, and should have perhaps appealed the ruling. His graveyard was in 5 different piles that made no sense, an arclight supposedly in his graveyard was placed in his exile zone, but turned 90 degrees to indicate it wasn't exiled, and I was given the wrong count on the spells in GY multiple times. All in all it felt like a lot of angle shooting and I ended up making a play based on incorrect information that led to a Dive Down blowout where I could have lived with a Scavenger eating the Pheonix in the yard and play around the dive down. It was a really diappointing way to end the tournament and I definitely learned I need to be more aggressive with judge calls, even if it makes me personally feel a little shitty. The judge ruled an incorrect game state, in the opponents favor, but a warning since he couldn't prove malicious intent. It was a clusterfuck, I was tilted, I accepted the ruling, ate my loss, and left fairly unhappy but with 700tix and 2 boxes. I got very drunk afterwards lol.
Long story short, the deck is gas. You have the tools to beat every matchup fairly comfortably, and now I have the results to back it up for you all. BDM asked about the list and I tweeted him my 75, and I basically couldn't play a match of magic on Sunday without getting complimented, or having my opponent ask for the list with intent to build it. I highly recommend it for your next standard event and you'll see me at basically every MN PT Qualifying event for awhile, the fire is definitely lit.
Thanks,
TheFiremind

2017.02.13 14:17 whatisuniqueusrnme I personally feel no one is op in this game, people just are not playing it correctly

A lot of people are saying that orochi or peace keeper are op,warlord is op, I think the only reason they seem op is because the the people using them know their play style, and the people facing them are unable to adapt. Take the Peacekeeper for example, one of her greatest strength is the ability to cause bleed damage. She can only do this by initiating a grab. Therefore you need to learn how to counter a grab. The easiest way for me is when you see a player who loves to grab or guard break just keep hitting the light attack button. You can also use x to dodge out of the way of a grab when in defense mode. You can also counter the guard by pressing square at the appropriate time. I personally find this somewhat hard and will require more practice when the game comes out to really get it down. Another thing about peacekeeper, when you see her charging at you, you can almost assume she is going to do her lunging attack. Be ready to either guard, Dodge, or Parry. Also be ready for the immediate grab when she gets in close.
Orochi is a fantastic counter attacker. When dealing with Orochi, try to use guard break or bait them into a close-range attack, one that you can dodge and then immediately punish them with a light attack. With Orochi as well, become good at blocking attacks, because their attacks are fast.
Nobushi, her main advantage is keeping you at a distance and poking you with her spear. Get in close by blocking her attacks and going for a guard break,or by dodging and striking from her sides.
Which brings me to blocking. Know what kind of guard stance your hero has. If it is a vanguard class like the warden or kensei, while in guard stance, their guard will be up indefinitely in whichever direction the right stick is facing. Reflexive guard will be up for only a short time. To see how long, simply enter into guard stance with someone like peace keeper or orochi, guard in any direction and look at the screen. You will see the guard in that direction light up for a bit, then go black. That is the window of your guard being active, which means you need to learn to start blocking right before the attacks hits. This then moves to parrying.
The biggest problem I had with parrying was myself. I would get let my adrenaline or nerves get the best of me and start parrying to early and freaking out. Just relax, let the parry come to you. When you see someone going for a big overhead heavy, wait, even though you see the red bar, when the red bar flashes, parry and punish. Also check your right thumb. Often I would get too panicked, and my thumb would not move left to block, but move up and to the left. You need to get used to having your thumb travel perfectly left, right,or up.
Finally, learn how to switch it up. If you keep using the same combos, the same attacks or attack from the same direction, anyone will be able to predict you and destroy you. Try using a triple light attack combo but switch up the direction of each attacl, etc. Learn your characters strenghts and weaknesses. Heavys have great defense, but slow to attack. Assasins have fast attacl but poor defense. Find yourplay style and the also build your character to fit said style. My buddy was using warlord all weekend woth a build that had high defense and high revenge gain. He was destroying people in domination by just bloacking and then entering revenge mode.
I know this has been probably posted countless times before, but I hopeat least one person will read this and reconsider their opinion. Once again, these were all just my personal opinions and observations playing the open beta. Please let me know any tips or revelations you discovered this weekend. I will see you all on the battlefield Tuesday!
P.s.-if all you do is select the viking vanguard class so you can throw people of cliffs, enjoy the first few weeks of the game. After that, people will catch on and you'll have to git gud scrub.
This was typed in a rushed matter on my way to work, sorry for any errors concerning grammar or spelling.
