2024.05.21 19:14 Scary_Caterpillar_83 Twitter archive download failing

Has anyone else had issues with downloading twitter history?
I requested my partner’s twitter data through his account and see that it’s ready for download, however when I click on it to download it fails immediately and shows “decompression failed” in my MacBook downloads queue.
I have tried to download in Safari, Firefox, and on my iPhone/iPad. Is the file itself bad?? Do I need to wait for it to expire and then request the archive again?
Any tech advice is appreciated. I just discovered my partner was messaging someone on Twitter and exchanging porn videos all of last year after I had caught him and he had sworn to never talk to this person again 🙄

2024.05.21 19:04 Ark_Max Downloading SQL nightmare on MAC

Hi all,
For the past 2 days I've been trying to download SQL server, I tried docker and even parallels. No luck, just tons of issues.
What is the easiest way to get access to it or at this point any database to practice my sql. Is there a website or something where I don't have to deal with any of the downloads?
It's been hell trying to figure out ways to download these on my Mac.
Thanks again!
P.S.
I would prefer an actual database on my mac, but it just seems like a lot of issues.

2024.05.21 18:43 TVorDie Backblaze not backing up desktop, documents, and download folders on Mac

I've been using Backblaze without incident on a Mac Mini for a couple of years. I just decided to add my Macbook Pro as an additional machine. When I set up Backblaze, it didn't back up my Desktop, Downloads, or Documents folders on the Macbook Pro, although it's always done that fine on the Mac Mini. What's going on? How can I fix this? Thanks!

2024.05.21 18:38 Fast_Veterinarian245 Need to import multiple photos with a preview like file explorer has not z drive

Hi I’m a Mac user and very lost on windows. I have folders of photos for a real estate client that exist on google drive when I import them to my clients windows computer they are imported using Zdrive and have no preview. He needs a thumbnail preview like file explorer has. How do I get them to import and then exist on his network as a .png or .webp with a preview? I’m downloading from google drive to downloads then finally to the LAN network folder and they end up as zdrive files with no preview. Thank you very much for your help

2024.05.21 18:05 whatwouldmojodo New to pc and have some basic questions

So I’m not new to pc because growing up that’s all my family ran but as of 4 years ago I switched to a MacBook Pro and I like the system (I know this is a pc thread but I love the ease of syncing all of the stuff on my iPhone to my Mac) I digress.
Anyway I wanted a desktop pc because A I don’t want to necessarily move away from console gaming I wanted to expand to steam games and pc specific games (I didn’t buy Mac because I didn’t want to spend 6k on a desktop computer that’ll run steam like shit)
Point B is I’m currently in school and I want to try and get a remote job so I would need something with good processing power.
When I was a kid I always found a way to fuck up my computer by playing flash games through really sketchy websites and clicking on those adds that say something along the lines of “click here to see the list of the 30 most awkward celebrity photos”
But as an adult that now knows better. In the modern day of pc’s how can I best protect myself and prevent my pc from slowing down. Is defender good enough for casual steam gaming.
Down to the questions. is defender good enough for normal use or should I re up the 30 day free trial of Norton that was pre installed on my computer?
I know steam is generally safe to download from but what do I need to watch out for
And finally how do i properly go about upgrading my pc to prevent slowdowns and get optimal performance or is it cheaper just to buy a new pc
thanks for your help I’m really new to this
this is what I am running currently

2024.05.21 17:16 Comfortable_Trip7869 What laptop do you recommend to pair with Google pixel phone?

I only need it for my socials, going zoom and helping me to download my pictures from phone to external hardware. I need it for home use. I currently have MacBook but it's not compatible. Thank you

2024.05.21 17:01 astradexa Outlook for MacOS Autodownloading All Attachments- Workaround

Apparently, in the "new outlook", there is no option to NOT auto-download attachments on mac. This has resulted in maxxing out my computer's storage. This was driving me insane and after reading several recent threads of users experiencing the same, I'm sharing the fix i've implemented so far- reverting to Legacy Outlook.
Click "Outlook" on the tab bar on top, then select Legacy Outlook. From there, you can go into your settings, Accounts, Advanced, then select Download Headers only. That should allow you to not download all attachments.
I have yet to figure out whether deleting the attachment that "New outlook" autodownloaded onto my mac will delete them on the server. I hope not. If someone confirms that, please comment below. TIA

2024.05.21 16:21 Pardo96 Chemcraft for Mac ARM and Mac Intel

Hello, I wanted to know if anyone has tried chemcraft for Mac and if it has given them problems when using the toolbar or if it does not save the configurations of the schematics that they create to represent the systems. I have had both problems. When I open my system in chemcraft and I want to, I don't know, for example, see the symmetry, it throws an error as soon as I scroll through the options. Another error I get is when I want to save an image of my file for my writing, it also throws an error and tells me I have to kill the process. And so .... I'm with the trial version and although I know it is a beta version, I would like to know if anyone else had the same problems. And just in case you have any doubts, I leave here the link to download chemcraft, either for Mac with intel or Mac with ARM.

2024.05.21 15:53 oushima7391 Error in SuperMemo: Incorrect Folder Attributes and Missing Collection Files - How to Fix?

SOLUTION:
Okay, I don't know the precise reason as to why it happens, but I did find the fix.
I was running Parallels Desktop 19 (Windows 11 Pro) on macOS Sonoma. And was trying to restore my backups from my Z drive (macOS documents folder). I "think" (not sure), that SuperMemo has some kind of file system reading issues when it tries to read from the macOS drive directly. So it didn't import them correctly and thus threw the errors.
How to fix it:
You need to put your SuperMemo backups on your C drive (Windows drive of Parallels Desktop). Then it will load normally. I also tried giving full Disk Access via System Preferences in macOS for Paralles Desktop, but that didn't help. I also tried running SuperMemo with Administrator Privileges, and also tried to completely quit and restart Parallels Desktop, but it didn't work.
So in short: Put your backup folder on your Windows C drive (main Windows Drive) instead of macOS Z drive when importing backups/collections. Or disable Mirror Mac and Windows User Folders in Sharing in Options in Parallels Desktop: https://download.parallels.com/desktop/v19/docs/en_US/Parallels%20Desktop%20User's%20Guide/vm_configuration_sharing_v18.png
Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing issues with SuperMemo related to incorrect folder attributes and missing collection files. Whenever I try to access my backup folders, I get the following error messages:
  1. 'Incorrect folder attributes: Z:\DOCUMENTS\SUPERMEMO-MAIN\BACKUP\((BACKUP OF PIMSLEUR CREATED ON 2024-03-12 00-45-53))'
  2. 'Collection files missing! Folder: Z:\DOCUMENTS\SUPERMEMO-MAIN\BACKUP\((BACKUP OF PIMSLEUR CREATED ON 2024-03-12 00-45-53)) Try to restore files that you have moved or deleted'
If I try to restore my backups from within the app via File (toolbar) -> Open Collection -> and then clicking on any ".kno" file, the app crashes without any warning.
If I click on the ".kno" file directly, I get greeted with the error message stated above.
I've attached screenshots of the errors and my folder structure for reference.
Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/HiuBrNh
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can resolve it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Is it possible to set dish position manually?
Hello everyone! I’m a newbie in the Starlink world and I have a doubt about the dish’s auto tracking: I live in a build where I have a narrow view from the sky and I must to position the dish in a specific position to reach the satellites. In this specific position I got download speeds from 180 to 220 Mbps, what is very good for me. My problem is: the dish’s auto track can’t find this position automatically so I would like to know if is it possible to set the dish position in a manual way. Meanwhile I’m using the dish supported in the security web of my window. Any tip for this?

2024.05.21 15:49 lykwydchykyn WTS: Handmade pedals and practice amps, experimental designs.

Hi guys. Making another shot at this. Cut prices on a few things because I'm just running out of room for storing my new builds. Order multiples and I may cut you a deal.
This post is mostly for people interested in buying, but I love a trade! If you're interested in trading see my latest post in /letstradepedals. I post there every other week, usually on Tuesday. I got non-DIY stuff in the trade post, too.
What I got for sale is hand-built stuff that I made, mostly relatively unique or heavily tweaked designs built on vero or point to point. Many are housed in upcycled tins, a few in hammond boxes. I've also got small practice amps built inside whatevers that you can crank up and enjoy at low volumes. They all run on standard 9v pedal power.
PRICES DON'T INCLUDE SHIPPING -- I ship USPS priority using pirateship.com, so expect shipping to be between $5 and $15 depending on how close you are to Tennessee. Would prefer to not deal with international shipping, but if you want it bad enough to pay for it, I'm game.
I accept Paypal or Venmo.
MOBILE USERS: There are 4 columns in the table below: Name, Price, Links, and Notes. If you don't see all 4, scroll over or ask for more info.
Fuzzes
Name Price Links Notes
Bazz Me Fuss You #1 $90 PIC DEMO A bazz-fussified perversion of the Escobedo push-me-pull-you, featuring controls for octave and volume. This is the first unit I've built using my own custom PCB. Housed in a painted 125B with top jacks.
Space Fuzz $80 PIC DEMO This is a Hollis crash sync fuzz that I souped up with an LFO to modulate the filtesync frequency. Really wild flangery/phasey type gated fuzz sound. At the right settings you can get some octave-down effects as well. Housed in a ~3.5 inch square game tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Pretty pleased with this build.
SwirlFuzz $75 PIC DEMO Modulated octave fuzz prototype. It's an octave fuzz, but you can switch on an LFO to modulate the octave amount. Controls for Rate, Depth, Gain, and Volume, plus switches for waveshape and mode (Normal/Octave/Modulated). In a circular tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Big Green Fuzz for Attractive Bass Players $75 PIC Demo Like my bazz-me-fuss-you circuit, but with a big muff tone stack, a clean blend, and optional clippers for more compression. Housed in a big round tin reinforced with recycled plastic and designed specifically for attractive bass players. Unattractive ones may not really gel with this.
Creature from the planet Chyowngg $65 PIC Demo Prototype of a unique fuzz I've been developing that I call the Chyowngg fuzz. It's a 2-stage octaver that gives a bright synthy tone with a distinctive envelope (hence the name). You can toggle each stage from octave to non-octave mode for a variety of interesting timbres. Also has a tone control, but the tone control is before the octave stages so it results in interesting behaviors depending on the switch settings. It's in a tin meant to be painted like an alien, though some say it looks more like a triceratops.
Baller Fuzz $60 PIC DEMO Another Bazz-Me-Fuss-You build with an added BMP-style tone control. In a slightly beaten-up heart-shaped basketball tin. Y'all ready for this?
Wiff Spwinkles on Top $45 PIC Demo This point-to-point fuzz lives in the same neighborhood as the Harmonic Percolator, but has a few differences. I altered the way the gain knob works, and added a switch to toggle bass cut. It's housed in an ice-creamity welly tin.
Dumbo's Bazzrite Fussrite $40 PIC Demo A bazz-fussified mosrite fuzzrite circuit I cobbled together in point-to-point wiring style. Housed in a little Dumbo puzzle tin with GLITTER! Controls are for balance (kind of tone-cum-gain) and volume.
Drives, Distortions, and Boosts
Name Price Links Notes
Bronze Drive $85 PIC Demo This is a point-to-point, transistor based overdrive I designed based loosely on the Davisson Easy Drive. Good for low-gain crunchy tones and plenty of output volume on tap if you want it for a boost. Tone circuit is like a BMP stack but with a mid hump instead of a mid cut. Housed in a painted 125B with top jacks.
Copper ZenerMorph Drive $65 PIC Demo This is an experiment in zener diode clipping. Nice crispy drive that gets beefier as you turn up the gain, lots of good edge-of-breakup tones to be had. Housed in a decorated tin reinforced with some plastic.
GOOST $65 PIC A simple JFET boost vaguely based on the Runoffgroove Fetzer valve. Switch toggles bass cut for a treble-boosting sound. Point-to-point build housed in a small tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
B is for Beast $55 PIC DEMO This fun little drive/boost consists of two cascading MOSFET gain stages with optional clipping in between. It goes from clean and loud to massive wall-of-gain distortion nicely. Controls for gain, clipping, and volume. In a small heart-shaped tin about 4in by 4in.
Shining Hope Drive $40 PIC Demo Differential mirroring drive, gives a kind of overdriven-mixer-channel distortion. Controls for gain, tone, and volume. Housed in a star-shaped Christmas tin.
Green Sparkler Boost $35 PIC Just an Escobedo Duende JFET boost built point-to-point in a sparkly little round tin. Gives a little gain and a bit of warmth to the tone.
Non-Dirt
Name Tier Links Notes
Gift of Chykka Wakka $65 PIC DEMO First build of an all-transistor envelope filter I designed. Built point-to-point style and housed in a little giftbox tin reinforced with recycled plastic. Controls for Q and Sweep, switch toggles envelope smoothing.
Vortex of Funk $65 PIC DEMO Second build of the Chykka-Wakka circuit, this one features attack, Q, and range controls. Built point-to-point and housed in a painted tin.
BZZZ BOOP BEEP $50 PIC DEMO A basic square wave oscillator on a momentary switch. Can go from bzzz to boop to beep with a sweep of the big knob. Also has tone and volume controls, and a 3-way switch for different decay amounts. Use it to simulate a spring door stopper or dying cow. Or bleep your foul-mouthed frontman. Or mess with the sound guy. Or send Morse code to the bar. I dunno. Housed in a painted tin reinforced with recycled plastic.
Little Amps
Name Price Links Description
Ample iMank $65 PICS DEMO This is a Runoffgroove Ruby Amplifier built into this old multimedia speaker enclosure designed to look like an old iMac. Glows blue when you turn it on. It runs from a standard 9v pedal power. It's not terribly loud, nor terribly clean, but if you dig the classic mac vibe it might be fun. Controls for gain and volume, and a power switch on the back.
Nosy Amp $75 PICS DEMO Another solid-state amp based on the Ruby amplifier, housed in a repurposed bookshelf speaker. This one actually has pretty decent volume, even on 9V (can run on 12V as well for more), and can stay clean while getting loud enough for a quiet jam with friends.
Fleur-de-Lis Amp $90 PICS DEMO A tiny bookshelf speaker turned into a practice amp. This one features a class D power amp for lovely cleans, and a custom designed discrete preamp that gets punchy & crunchy when cranked. Runs on 9V but pretty loud nonetheless.
That's all for now. I just keep building and building, though, so there'll be more.

2024.05.21 15:08 ArtistTheGeek XBox One X DTS... this is puzzling

OK so... this is baffling me.
I have an XBox One X hard wired into the router. HDMI straight into the amp/receiver (supports True HD/DTS HD), then on to TV.
Plex Server (2018 Mac Mini) is upstairs, and has to be on WiFi for now.
I've been ripping my Blu-Rays for the last week or two and am about halfway through. I've been converting them all to have an AC3 compatibility track as there was always a delay or silence when playing DTS HD or True HD, but after some suggestions I read on here I tried some things and got it working. Sort of. For some films.
All these are about the same file size, 20-30GB each.
Back to the Future (DTS HD or DTS) doesn't even recognise as such, simply plays DD5.1.
The Abyss (downloaded - DTS HD) plays fine.
The Batman (True HD) plays fine.
Blade Runner 2049 (DTS HD) horrible video glitches all over the screen constantly unless I force it to play lower bitrate version. (runs fine on server computer)
Does anyone have any clues as to why some of these would work fine, and others wouldn't?

Here are some key cloud statistics:

Moreover, organizations adopting AWS report significant advantages:

5 Common mistakes that increase cloud bill and how to avoid them

1. Unmonitored AWS Instances

Failure to monitor unused AWS instances can lead to unnecessary costs in cloud infrastructure. Neglecting to track idle, aging, or inactive AWS instances results in poor resource utilization, known as cloud sprawl. Organizations face inflated AWS bills due to uncontrolled instances from development testing or shadow IT projects.
How to tackle: To tackle this, a Cloud Center of Excellence (CCoE) can manually track AWS instances or use automated cloud management software, such as AWS Config or AWS Trusted Advisor, to identify and decommission unused instances regularly, optimizing resource utilization and reducing unnecessary expenses.

2. Lack of instance size management

The challenge of improper instance sizing in cloud computing disrupts budgets and performance. Over-provisioning wastes resources and costs, while under-provisioning leads to performance issues. Efficient instance size management involves analyzing workloads, automated scaling, and continuous optimization to align resources with actual needs, ensuring cost-effectiveness and optimal performance.
How to tackle: To tackle instance size management challenges, IT teams or CCoEs customize AWS instance configurations, implement scheduling using AWS Auto Scaling, monitor performance metrics with Amazon CloudWatch for continuous optimization, and leverage AWS offerings like AWS Reserved Instances for cost-effective scaling and predictable billing.

3. Failure to implement a multi-cloud strategy

Failing to implement a multi-cloud strategy means missing out on opportunities to optimize costs, performance, and resilience across various cloud platforms. It limits the ability to compare services and pricing models from different providers like AWS, Azure, and GCP. Without a multi-cloud approach, organizations may face vendor lock-in, higher costs, and reduced flexibility in adapting to changing business needs.
How to tackle: To address the challenge of not implementing a multi-cloud strategy, organizations should prioritize evaluating services and pricing from various providers. Embracing a multi-cloud approach allows for cost optimization, improved performance, and reduced dependency on a single vendor, ensuring flexibility and resilience in cloud deployments.

4. Neglecting orphaned snapshots

Neglecting orphaned snapshots, which are created when instances are terminated without properly managing associated volumes and snapshots, can lead to unnecessary charges in cloud environments. These orphaned volumes and snapshots continue to incur costs even though they are no longer actively used, contributing to wasteful spending and inflated bills. It’s crucial to regularly review and clean up orphaned resources to avoid unnecessary charges and optimize cost management in cloud infrastructures.
How to tackle: To tackle the issue of neglecting orphaned snapshots, implementing backup strategies is crucial. This includes taking snapshots before deleting volumes, which reduces costs by billing only for snapshots at lower rates rather than full volume charges. Additionally, it’s essential to monitor orphaned snapshots regularly and manage them efficiently to avoid unexpected cost surges. This proactive approach, coupled with leveraging AWS services like Amazon EBS Snapshot Lifecycle Manager, ensures optimal cost management and prevents unnecessary expenses in cloud environments.

5. Lack of automation

Not embracing automation for tracking cloud resources hinders efficiency, especially at scale. Manual methods are time-consuming, prone to errors, and often lack real-time insights. Automation streamlines resource management by automatically monitoring, provisioning, and optimizing cloud assets. It reduces human intervention, ensures accuracy, and enables quicker responses to changing workload demands, leading to improved operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness in cloud environments.
How to tackle: Tackling the issue of not embracing automation involves leveraging automated tools and workflows to streamline processes and improve efficiency in cloud operations. Automation enforces best practices, maintains consistent performance standards, and reduces the burden on operations teams by handling repetitive tasks and ensuring accuracy. This enables teams to focus on critical aspects of cloud management, such as optimizing costs, enhancing security, and supporting business innovation, with the assistance of AWS services like AWS Lambda and AWS CloudFormation.
