I’ve had this Lenovo CB C330 for probably 3 years now & up until recently, it hasn’t had many major issues aside from loading issues & random reboots. That is until a couple months ago, when there was an incident where water poured over the entirely of the keyboard for it to then cook on a radiant heated floor for hours before noticed. Obviously, the keyboard fried out completely & the laptop was non-functional for a couple days as it dried, but once it came back only the ports worked. Luckily it’s a touchscreen model that folds so i’ve been able to use it for basically just streaming since, but now i’ve hit another issue, as mentioned in the title.
Within the last week, once the battery hits low, it stops charging & won’t register a charge until the laptop is completely rebooted. I don’t know too much about this sector of tech & i assume these 2 things have to be related, but the keyboard fried almost 2 months ago so im hesitant to be confident on that. Is this worth a fix or is it time to get rid of this laptop that was never that great in the first place? thanks in advance for any help or advice!

I grew up in a house with these intercoms in all the bedrooms and as kids it was great for being able communicate in a big house.
I'm now wiring my home and would like something similar but a bit more modern and cannot find anything that fits the bills aside from this old Legrand system that's discontinued.
Is there a solution that can:

something that's focused on audio communication, from room to room and doorbells
Connected just via cat cable to a central location.
Local only (Brilliant panels have intercom but it's cloud powered)
Small or Sleek - or at least better than the old Aiphone system.
Prefer not needing a backlit touchscreen for bedooms.

I've had two Nest thermostats since moving into my house. One controls the single zone air conditioner and one zone of my boiler for radiant heat, the other controls the second heat zone and doesn't connect to the AC at all.
I am having my AC replaced with a variable speed unit and they're installing a Honeywell Premier IAQ RedLink thermostat in place of the first Nest. This will control both the AC and the first heating zone.

I'm curious if there's another thermostat that I could install for the second heating zone that would be able to be controlled from the same app as the Honeywell.

I don't need any of the fancy stuff (the thermostat has supply and return air temperature probes and an outdoor sensor), just single stage boiler control. And obviously I don't want to spend $400+ just for a slight convenience of not having to juggle multiple apps.
So my question is whether the more affordable Honeywell wifi thermostats can integrate with the Premier IAQ RedLink. Will a basic one like this use the same app?

TLDR: I need device ideas to put in a wall outlet style gang box on the second floor central stair landing hallway. Does anything cool exist right now that I can use OR should I wait for this mythical apple HomePod that has a 7 inch touchscreen coming out in 2024?
Long version:
So. I just finished swapping all of my in ceiling radiant heat thermostats from the 70's out with Mysa baseboard V2 thermostats. They are pretty awesome because I just wanted a no thrills thermostat that I can see all of the temps in my house via HomeKit.
As some of you may know, the bane of in ceiling radiant heat is that it's incredibly easy to ruin it by accidentally cutting a cable in the ceiling. Well, in the second floor of my house I have a central hallway, So basically it's stairs that go up to a central area that all of the rooms branch off of. I noticed when I moved in that the light fixture there is incredibly new and thought "Sweet! they installed it in the ceiling with in ceiling radiant heat without messing it up!!"....You can probably guess where this is going.
So while swapping the thermostat out when I pulled it out of the wall I noticed it was disconnected and the cables were capped off. I tested the in ceiling radiant heat for continuity and yea, that shit is broke. Nice light right? Now thankfully, I don't NEED this heater. BUT I still have live electricity going to this wall outlet in a central location in my house.
I have security cameras, thermostats (10x Mysa and 1 central AC), all types of HomePods, motorized blinds. What I really want to do is have something with a display/touchscreen that lets me control the house. I'm honestly thinking of just waiting for apple to release their mythical HomePod with a screen and just mount the shit to the wall. or get an iPad and mount it to the wall but I'd rather have a HomePod that I can mount, and if I can mount it I would absolutely run ethernet to the thing if that's possible to use it as a home hub.
Now one caveat is that the power going into that gang box is 240v, but I'm sure I can just get a converter or just swap the breaker to be 120v. Either way I'm not worried about that part at all, I'll figure it out. The goal was to remove all of these 1970's thermostats from my walls and here I have one left out of ten, in the middle of my house, right outside my bedroom door...so every night when I go to sleep it looks at me, snickering. I'm open to all ideas. I can't just patch the wall because technically the gang box is a junction for other in ceiling radiant heaters in other rooms. And I'm not using a cover plate.

2023.06.21 18:29 Positive-Creme-8797 Hot Bar stop responding Please help!

The issue: The hot bar stops responding, and I can't use numbers or scroll to swap items. I can still swap items when I open my inventory and by left-clicking and right-clicking I can use whatever item it's stuck on.
closing out of Minecracft fully and then rebooting fixs the issue but only until it next breaks, Dose anyone knows a permanent fix for this as sometimes the issue will happen multiple times back to back, Its happened when I haven't had any modded items on my hot bar
its also not a touchscreen mode issue as I've googled recently to try and fix this, I also didn't have a modded item on my hot bar when it happend

I was wondering about both Steamdeck and Steam Controller. Both could potentially help me play PC games comfortably.

Functionality. I would like to use trackpads exclusively (NO gyros). Left tracpad for movement, right one for camera (games like Skyrim AE). Is it possible to do a 270 radiant degrees camera turn with one full swipe? While keeping some level of precision for smaller movements (ffp rpg, no shooters).

Obviously SD has much smaller trackpads than SC. But I'm also not sure if controller can do similar wide swipes without gyro.

Are you aware of other controllers with decent trackpads besides Steam controller? I'm open for recommendations because SC has a really bad availability currently. In Europe I found only one new device, on amazon (dot) de for 360 Euro (pretty absurd, better to get steamdeck).

Availability. It's really low. I live in Poland and found it just on Amazon de, for 360 Euro. Which is obvious quite extreme. I can also get one much cheaper, but it seems to be used. What are other places I could get it from in Europe (and ship to another country)?

Having played most every edition of D&D. Fifth Edition has been hands-down the most influential, popular, and in my opinion the best base rules set thus far for D&D. When it comes to a mechanical/rules perspective.

I've posted my concerns in other posts, but after the recent release of Spelljammer and Radiant Citadel. I feel my opinions are validated, that being, 5E is the worst when it comes to Lore.

The Radiant Citadel is arguable Wizard's first unique setting(s) for 5E, and I don't count the pre-existing Magic the Gathering settings they added. I was really looking forward to these new settings, only to find that the settings themselves get barely any depth. Also, a setting that is a Utopia is boring. There needs to be some form of conflict, in order to give something for the players to chew on. That said, some of the modules are actually pretty good, the worst I'd rate as being Ok.

Now for my bigger gripe, Spelljammer. 2nd Edition's greatest contribution to D&D is the new settings they introduced, and streamlining a few of 1st Ed's more ridiculous rules. That aside, the Lore content presented to us in the Players book for Spelljammer is laughable. For a 64 page book, 16 of its pages are just devoted to the ships floorplans, that they copied from the old second edition boxed set. Which had a multitude more of ships. You could argue that 32 pages of this setting book are copies with minor revisions. Almost half of the lore book is just devoted to the ships. Even devoting this much to the just ships, they then don't even give us rules to Build them. They give small section about repairs, but I have to go reference Saltmarsh in order to build them, and the Spelljammer book doesn't even reference Saltmarsh for guidance. I'd rather have gotten a book devoted to ships and spelljamming rather than the module we received. That or, have had the module offered as a side-supplement.

To top this off, the lore book is again shortened by the 9 pages devoted to the (arguably best contribution) the player options. That's 41 pages before going into full art pages, and pages devoted to the index/appendences, of what is for many players a new setting for 5E D&D.

I feel like Wizard's focus is on D&D One (which is fine, cause I'm hoping it's excellent), much to the detriment of the newest content they're publishing. For that matter, even to the previous content they have published.

The previously introduced settings have not received anything outside of their original release. No new modules, no new lore supplements or expansion of their setting/lore. The closest you get is the new content introduced for Eberron for Adventure's League. That's a shame, cause I'd love to have more content for these other settings, to see what has changed in them, rather than just using the 5E rules, then having to reference my old second edition material for the lore. Something that many of the newer players don't have the luxury of referencing.

Now for my thoughts and hopes for D&D One.
I love the new digital tabletop built in the Unreal Engine. That is 100% the Chef's kiss of this newest edition. I'm hoping like with the old Neverwinter Nights games, we can make whole modules, that we can share (maybe even sell) via this platform. Heck, I might even make one of those fancy touchscreen tables, just to use this for my games.

Digital and Physical bundles made me jump out of my seat, I prefer physical copies over digital 99% of the time. However, being able to reference in both mediums (and hopefully in conjunction with the digital tabletop system) has me thrilled.

I don't mind the transitioning away of stat boosts from Races to Background. As long as the races provide something unique to each character's experience. So far, I'm liking what I'm seeing. I do find it interesting they went back on a few Monsters of the Multiverse changes for Elves, and also the Fizban's changes for Dragonborn. We'll have to see. However, the changes to Dwarf and Human for example are splendid. The trend of giving almost every single race darkvision, is not my personal favorite. When everyone (aside from 2) has it, it doesn't make it special. Either give it to everyone at that point, or stop using it at all.

Monsters have been an issue for 5E, to be fair, Wizards has been fixing this in their more recent supplements. However, I stand by that 5E is lacking challenge. Classic monsters that were once memorable, are just mediocre at best or a forgettable encounter. I remember cringing every time I saw a Wight, much of less a Banshee appear before my party. To be clear, I have no desire to see ability/level damage or drain Ever return. However, some kind of new mechanic that brings a meaningful threat, would be most appreciated. I'm looking forward to the Matt Colville Kickstarter's revisions to the existing monsters of 5E.

Higher Level play, in 5E there is very little to spend your gold on, that or meaningful threats or goals once you reach a certain threshold (I'd argue around 10 - 14). You can see evidence of this, by how little content Wizards has published (aside from the upper level modules for Adventure's League) for this level of content. Wizards needs to playtest the hell out of higher-level content for D&D One.

Lending to the aforementioned issue, is Hit-points. Players and monsters have too many. Part of what kept combat deadly in earlier editions (pre-3rd), was that the players had a lot less hit-points. It made classic spells like Fireball (or Evocation spells in general) much more of a threat. Don't take me wrong, I have no desire to go back to being a D4 hit dice Wizard. However, something that I'd like to see return (or something similar), would be once a character reaches level 10, you use to receive 1 hit point + your Con modifier (and the Con mod was only if you were a fighter. That can stay in the past). I wouldn't mind that number being higher, or perhaps driven by your class' original hit dice, but it helped to keep monsters a threat.

Long Rests are too powerful (yes, I know they mention more difficult rules), often parties have little to no incentive to ever bother with a Short rest. It's part of why the new Genie Warlock's kit, allows them to pop into their magical object for like a fraction of the time. Cause the Warlock's only perk to having fewer spells, is getting the back on a short rest. Frequently, the part will just opt to take a long-rest. Long Rests need to stop healing the party to full, and instead only restore either their healing dice, that or half of their spent healing dice. This would incentivize the party into taking long rests, and actually bothering to use their healing dice mechanic. I have rarely if ever actually used that mechanic in 5E.

Counter-spell, I think Brennan Lee Mulligan voiced my concerns on this best. Where you have this big boss of a spellcaster, and the players by virtue of having more actions than the singular boss, can just counter spell everything. I know the most common answer is, "Throw out minions to distract them." However, I have always enjoyed big boss fights with like Liches, where they alone were enough of a threat to the party. You can see this proof of this spell being an issue, when several of Wizard's latest spell caster monsters, have been given a generic spell-like ability (or abilities) that are purposely worded to avoid this spell.

2022.08.11 03:32 FfartyMcFly fully wired new house with speakers. Please need advice on multi zone AV smart home system. Turned off by C4/Savant etc

Hi guys, aI made it 95% through building my family’s dream home and am overwhelmed deciding how to wrap up the AV smart home stuff. We never had money before so I’m new to most of this stuff. We were doing well before covid and fell on rough times, now struggling but slowly socking away money to finish this set up and hopefully not lose our house.
Sorry ahead of time that my terminology is probably off, I’m fairly savvy with construction and wiring etc though :)
Completed: - 40+/- in ceiling speakers and a hand full of in wall subs, all wired to utility room - Cat6 runs to all potential TV locations and more (each room all potential camera locations, desk areas etc - Cat6e near my fiber service hardlined to internet repeater locations through the 3 level house.
Originally a friend in another state who does high end control4 jobs overlayed a design on my plans for control tablets, audio, cameras and cat6 runs etc. I roughed everything in and have been living in a nice house with a ton of speakers and a nest of unterminated wires in my utility room with my kids blasting Disney from the one Alexa thermostat I mounted to control the heater to avoid getting divorced lol. I’m ready to move forward but turned off by the cost of savant and control4 and the subscription model etc.
Wants:
-multi zone AV. About 3 TVs that are set up for surround sound with a powered subwoofer. There’s cat6 behind the tv (presumably I’d go cat6-HDMI? Poe?). Then in tbe utility room use a multi zone media controller? Again sorry if I sound like a fool on terminology. We mostly use the smart tv apps but would gladly get Apple TV’s for step up in quality of sound and resolution.
-AUDIO. If everything were ideal I’d likely have about 13 “audio zones”. Realistically I went overboard on the plans not realizing that speaker wire was NOT my biggest expense lol. I’m we’d be happy with 5 zones. Ideally the living room and master having surround (front and rear L/R plus subwoofer).
-I have a multi zone radiant heat system but it’s been getting so damn hot the past few years I put in a small 2 zone AC system to keep the kids from going crazy on hot days (hot nights). I’m agnostic as far as ecoBe/nest etc but ideally I’d integrate that too.
-CAMERAS: I wired for cameras via cat6 on the exterior of the property
-Controls/Tablets: I wired for touchscreens on each level and in the master to control everything. (Foolishly thought prices would be down and tech advancements way up…. started pre covid). Surprisingly Haven’t found anything that’s cost efficient but would love a POE Amazon tablet or iPad etc that works with everything.
LIGHTING: I have a bank of 20 switches under my stairs to avoid tons of switches on the main level. so like a schmuck, since it’s currently a dumb home, we have to control everything from under the staircase lol. Kids love it though :) hoping for about 30-40 smart light circuits. I’m leaving towards Caseta but hear that I should go Lutron Raa or propriety systems like control4 or Savant (both cool options but easily $100K+).
I’d be sooo grateful for advice on PoE, multi zone AV controllers, direction on which way to go to avoid being stuck with some proprietary subscription system. Ideally I’d get a couple TVs and surround Audio zones set up as well as headlining the internet though out the house for basic starters and then Start chipping away at cameras and lighting scenes etc.
