2024.05.19 15:50 xX_Disaster-Kit_Xx ADVICE NEEDED

I’m not sure if this can go in this community, I’ve never used it but Reddit asked me to pick one to post in, so hopefully this works out.
TLDR at the bottom
Hello, I don’t ever really post here, I mainly use it to read stories or cheer myself up a bit after a hard day. But, today is different. We live in NY, that may be important later on.
So, the other day, my boyfriend and I went out with some friends. We ate and I ended up getting food poisoning, I was supposed to go in at 11am today but unfortunately couldn’t due to my current illness that will pass. My boyfriend texted me this morning, his message stated that our boss cut back our hours from 5 days a week to 2 days (for me) and 3 days (for him). Please keep in mind that our boss is the same woman who will praise us to our faces then turn around and attempt to pin all of our co-workers against us. This is also the same woman who attempted to frame me of stealing money, which I didn’t do and she fired the one who did it, but she still insists that I cannot be trusted and that I am “lazy” and “incapable of hard work”. I work in a gas station deli, by no means is that “hard work”. I worked in two different restaurants, both were quite popular where I used to live.
Not only has my boss consistently degraded myself, my boyfriend, and the only diligent works; but she also consistently claims that she does everything. This woman comes in for 3 1/2 hours, makes some weird looking/smelling food that only two people get, makes a mess out of the entire deli and hot food sections, refuses to do her dishes, acts as though every one else is in the wrong for coming to work. She is also now attempting to get me in trouble for my physical issues (that have gone undiagnosed due to medical professional ignorance and parental neglect (father’s side)), acting as if they’re not real and treating me like I’m making it up “just so I don’t have to work”. If that was the case, I wouldn’t work there.
I started working there in late January, early February and this woman has nonstop proven that she should not be in charge. She promoted myself and my boyfriend to supervisors and gave us a raise, we haven’t gotten our raise and she likes to tell us we have no authority and that we can’t do anything. At this point, I am genuinely lost with what to do. My boyfriend and I are looking for good jobs that pay us way more, we only make minimum wage and in the economy, we can’t afford ANYTHING. I can’t even get insurance or start working towards my financial goals because of this woman.
I do not feel as though it is legal to almost completely knock someone’s schedule because they missed one day. My boyfriend hasn’t missed any days recently so his schedule being docked hours makes no sense. If mine was knocked a day or two, that would make sense to me. But taking more than half of my work week away because you have a silly vendetta that YOU concocted, that doesn’t make any sense to me. I have over 50 files collected of all that has been said and does as well as witnesses if I need them, but any regulatory advice would be HIGHLY appreciated.
TLDR: My boss is on a power trip at our convenience store and is cutting my hours because I got sick, as well as creating many issues between myself and other co-workers. What do I do?
Edit: this is the same woman who will get very angry with me or any of our co-workers for asking a question or trying to explain ourselves, she won’t even let us get a word in and just berates us for USUALLY no reason.
Edit two: I was recently informed that she (my boss) was fired from another location for doing the same thing she’s doing at our current place of work. I also got a comment about Walmart manager training, she worked at Walmart so that explains a bit for me.

2024.05.19 15:32 SignGuy77 Slaying the Saturday Dragon at [Canada’s Wonderland] (05/18/2024)

Slaying the Saturday Dragon at [Canada’s Wonderland] (05/18/2024)
The average ignorer of my overly verbose trip reports is likely aware that I enjoy my home park in small doses, usually aided and abetted by the summer weekend early entry schedule. But once in a blue while, say, on the occasion of my enthusiast son’s fifteenth birthday, we decide to take a more “normal” approach. On this Victoria Day long weekend we would spend a full day in the park: my son in the company of his high school buddies, and me doing my own thing for reddit coaster science.
TL;DR: getting on all major coasters at Wonderland on a Saturday is possible without fast lane, but it will require a whole day, minimal interruptions, and virtually no re-rides except maybe for rope drop time.
After setting the teenagers up with their all day food and drink wristbands and sending them on their way, I lined up for Leviathan. I entered the queue at 10:45 and got off my front row ride exactly sixty minutes later. The experience was not entirely foreign to me - I’ve waited upwards of an hour for Levi before, and even as someone who is approaching 200 laps on our hometown giga I must say it is still very much worth the wait. The ops were great to begin with, then sluggish for a while, and then decent again. Fast lane was not a huge factor this early either (compare with my son’s experience at end of day). And the ride was already nicely warmed up. The first drop and the entire first half literally blew me away, face-wise.
My second order of solo business was to try and work the Bat single rider line to my advantage. This has worked beautifully a few times in the past, but this year the ol’ boomerang has been very temperamental. And it remained consistently inconsistent on this day, breaking down about ten minutes into my wait. Having been thwarted twice this season already, I decided to sink the next long while into watching the repairs. This was made more pleasant chatting to another rider who originally came to Canada from Finland and told me some stories about his years working at PowerPark. Eventually though, even this gentleman decided to cut his lost time, and I was left alone in the queue. Long story short, it took about an hour for Bat to get its medicine (mechanic told me it was a faulty air valve or some such on the second half of the track), but I did get my first ride of the season. The backwards loop was kind to me, and the cobra roll had minimal bang.
Lunch time loomed, and keeping with the GP theme, I decided to join son’s crew at the new-for-last-season Lazy Bear Lodge. I eat at the park maybe two times a year (and one of those is always a funnel cake) so this was my first experience at the new restaurant. I’m not going to say it’s the best food ever, but the pulled pork was nice, the establishment very cozy, and the lines moved fast. In fact, in stark contrast to the ride queues, most of the food lines today looked short and moving well.
Parting ways with the kid, I passed WindSeeker with its passengers stuck near the top and headed for Behemoth. The two middle switchbacks of the extended queue were not being used (they would open shortly after I passed through there), but our venerable hyper made me wait a solid 100 minutes for a single back row lap. Love me some Behemoth airtime, but not really worth it outside of a first ever ride. The crew was doing their best, and a steady surge of fast lane guests definitely made the wait a lot longer. But I did it for you, Reddit!
After a forty minute queue to get Flight Deck done, my next conquest was a fifty minute Vortex wait, complete with the extended queue and line cutting teens (here hold my drink! Oops!), concluding with an intense back row lap (my 100th on the Arrow beauty, as it turned out). Then I headed back to Medieval Faire where my son’s pals were finally ready to brave Leviathan (first ever ride for two out of the three friends). I waved to them at the start of their journey into the bowels of the queue, and proceeded to ride other attractions in the area. By the time I saw the birthday boy’s hat at the top of the station stairs, I had already done Drop Tower (30 minutes) Wilde Knightmares (30 minutes), Wilde Beast (15 minutes, because who says let’s ride Wilde Beast at the end of day?) and Viking’s Rage (10 minutes, and the new drive tire makes it feel a lot less free-swinging). I waited another twenty minutes or so outside the Levi station, watching the swollen fast lane side of the stairs and the crew pumping out train after train steadily.
Finally after a two hour wait the boys got their ride, and the verdict from the first timers was unanimously positive. The teenagers had also done Yukon Striker earlier on, which took 70 minutes. So altogether, the three B&M’s took roughly 4.5 hours of the day to get a single ride on each. A supper at King’s Feast across from Wilde Beast was had, to get the money’s worth out of the all day meal plan, and the fellas called it a day. Twelve solid hours at the home park, more than triple our enthusiast average. Consider it good dry land training for Universal Studios later this summer.

2024.05.19 15:19 Imaginary_Tomorrow36 Boomer raced me to get the table he wanted

We went to a lake side restaurant last night. When we arrived at the hostess station, there were 4 boomers milling about in that area. I thought maybe they were leaving and waiting for someone to return with a to-go box or something. The hostess told us to sit wherever we would like, and she’d bring the menus in a minute. I started walking towards a table and the lead Boomer squeezed in front of me and planted his hand on the table I was getting ready to sit at. And then he just continued to stand there with his hand planted until his companions could catch up. If I knew we were racing, I would have made it a point to win 🙄 We sat at the table right next to it. Just as much by the water as the first.

2024.05.19 15:14 pohltergiest Spoke broke part 4

Spoke broke part 4
Where were we, ah yes. We piled into the train, which was not empty but had enough room. It took us a few stops to arrange ourselves to not be in the way, but there's only so much you can do when you're taking up the room of six people at once. The sky steadily darkened as we headed north, the local train trundling along at a steady pace. It felt a little slow, but whereas we might go 120km/h on the highway back home, it's pretty common for major roads here to have a speed limit of 50 and it's not common for it to be exceeded.
We arrived in shinjo, awkwardly carrying our bikes through the station. It was night and we needed some food. Beside snack bars, there was a Korean place open, so we went there. It was on a dim street, lit only by the colourful signs of the handful of bars and restaurants on the street. The doorway was short, so we ducked into a low ceilinged place that looked like a basement ftom the 80's. Wood panelling, faded posters, and a bunch of fridges with cold drinks inside. The cook welcomed us in and we sat at a low table on the ground across the little room from a rowdy group of men who looked like they had been there for awhile already. We ordered karaage and stone bowl bimimbap. The chef seemed happy that we wanted it spicy. He kept popping out to make sure we knew how to eat the food, him stirring Bryce's bowl of bimimbap for him since Bryce has never had the dish.
When we were nearly done eating and the other table had stopped shouting for more stuff, the chef pulled up a chair in the doorway of the kitchen and chatted us up. He said he was from Korea and he had been in Japan for 36 years. He loves skiing and wanted to show us his pictures. He loved to hear our story of us biking across the country, asking about different details along the way. When we were done eating, he brought out two small cans of Korean soda for us to enjoy and then when we had finished that, he said that the meal was on him. "My heart", he said, when we insisted that we should pay. We gave him as many candies as he would accept, but graciously took the offering.
Outside we headed to our best shot at a campsite, a day camping spot about 5 km away, well outside of shinjo. It was very dark on the way out, but nobody was on the road and the road was good, so we had no problems. The campsite looked good, with working bathrooms. It was a little overgrown, which was a good sign. Don't want to be camping in a park that will be well used on a Sunday morning. We found a quiet corner in a stand of weeds across a little stream that looked like it hadn't had foot traffic in a decade. We got set up and got to bed, it being very late. A cat watched us atop a fallen tree, it's eyes glowing an eerie red in the light of our headlamps.
Although we short stacked on sleep, I had a good one as my sleeping mat finally held up after four repairs. I don't trust it yet, but I'm happy for the sleep. Our campsite was in deep shadows behind a stand of thick trees, so we stayed nice and cool for the first two hours of the day. We got organized and ate the breakfast we bought the night before on a bench in the park, remarking at how the children's playsets wouldn't have weeds growing around them if there were any kids who used this park.
We could feel the heat and humidity really starting to ramp up, so we were ready to get going. After packing up, we set off west for the coastline and the aquarium. We got about ten kilometers before I ran over what I thought was a branch, both of us paranoid of a broken spoke at this point. Just to be sure I checked my spokes, sure enough I had a broken one. My face getting hot from frustration, I sat down and started wrenching spokes to tighten what I could, swearing and cursing that we lost another one. This couldn't be that hard. I didn't have a proper spoke wrench, which was making this kind of maintenance very difficult. Regardless, it'd need to be replaced and while I had many spares now, shops were hard to find. We were 15km from shinjo, so we could head back, or go forwards and try our luck with some transit.
We decided to go forward, as we'd spend all day going back to the city to get repairs done. May as well get them done in the place we were already heading to. There was a train station nearby, so we biked the 5km to get there. Along the way I noticed that I did a terrible job with the spokes, making the wheel wobble and bump as I tugged it into an egg shape. Not great. When we arrived, the train station looked permanently closed. The tracks had a layer of rust on top indicating that no train had run here for some time. We looked around and found notices that a replacement bus was running this line. Would it be a small passenger bus or a large coach bus with luggage compartments? We decided to wait the hour and find out.
As we waited, it got hot and sticky. I read some guides on spokes and wheel trueing. I've had some difficulties with learning new things, but the upset feelings with losing the ability to bike confidently helped to spur me along. It doesn't look too hard, but I'll need a spoke tool. Next time we're in a city with a few minutes to spare I'll get one. From what I can see, it's likely the super fast sections we're doing where we're fully loaded and hitting bumps in the road at 60km/h. These cause wild tension spikes in the spokes and lead to fatigue and breakage. We just can't be doing such intense speeds and hitting things like potholes. We also need to check the spoke tension after big rides. I'm going to try to incorporate it into lunch breaks.
Eventually the bus came and it was thankfully a coach bus. After some wrangling we got the bikes in the luggage compartment and got on the bus. I sat, a little dazed, as I looked out the window. I reflected on why bike failures cause me such grief, it doesn't matter if we spend the day trying to get repairs, and yet I'm upset like I've been mugged. I suppose the bikes are our independence and mobility out here, something we control. I get a sense of safety from them, knowing I can get to food and shelter. When they break, not only is my movement hampered, now I have a big awkward expensive dead weight that I can't leave for extended periods of time. Getting it fixed is hard and there are often only one or two places per city that can do it. It's scary having a breakage in the countryside because we have no ability to call a cab on our own. It's a long string of "ifs" to get back to moving and the cascading failure of plans makes me very upset. I tried my best to remind myself that this is all part of the challenge, and besides, I would never, ever, learn things in any way other than the hardest. All we need is for a massive failure on the bike to lead to an injury, that'd be the hardest way to learn. Sweating as we haul our bikes through station platforms instead of drinking lemon sours by the ocean seems like a decent enough pounding to get me to learn some maintenance skills.
We arrived at the bus terminus and made our way up and over a train station and down to a platform to catch a train to tsuruoka. Both the departing station and arriving station were both super hard to get our bikes though, and people really liked staring at us as we struggled. There was just one chance in this city, one shop that looked to be equipped to fix bikes like ours. Would it be open today, we'd have to go there to find out. Riding the kilometer to the shop through the little city tucked in between two mountain ranges, we arrived to find the store was closed, but there was a biking team loitering around after finishing a ride. We greeted them and asked them about their team and if they knew anything about the shop. They indicated that they were closed for lunch and they'd be back in a while. Small town stuff. We decided to follow suit and went to find some lunch ourselves.
A short walk and a nice chinese restaurant serving lunch meal sets later (I got shrimp in a chili sauce) we headed back to find all but one of the bike team members had left and an old man and a lady were there eating rice balls on a bench outside the shop, which had an open door now. Music was drifting out, so we poked our heads in. Nobody was inside, so we asked the guy from the biking team if he knew where the mechanic was, to which he indicated the old guy was the mechanic, much to our embarrassment. The old fellow jumped up and finished his rice ball and started right away after what our issues were. The spoke replacement was an easy one so he took the wheel inside and started on that. I was relieved, but still very stressed so I decided to sit down and clean my bike for the first time. I recalled my first engineering job where I was taught that the first step to repairing a machine was to clean it, and until you could manage that you didn't belong around tools. Bryce likewise tried to do some maintenance as well.
I'll finish this story tomorrow, it's supposed to rain in the morning and I can catch up then.

2024.05.19 15:01 aznpersuazion My Top 5 Restaurants in South Florida/Miami Area..

Wanted to share my top 5 recommendation list. Having lived here for about 30 years, here are the best spots to visit, whether you're traveling or a local. I've included a range of options from cheap eats to fine dining.
  1. Chef Tally's - I've binge eaten at least 50+ jamaican restaurants, and while this isn't your typical traditional jamaican spot, this is hands down one of my favorite places in south Florida. I dream about the chicken here. It's always a candidate for my "what should I eat this weekend" thoughts.
  2. Mila Sunday Brunch - $95 for all you can eat cinco jota jamon iberico, black caviar, and a ton of other creatively prepared dishes. I've had a few of the other brunchs in south florida, like edge, novikov, etc. but this one gets the thumbs up because they actually have more unique spreads and appetizers. Pro tip, they have a cheese wheel pasta and mojito station outside. Did I mention the price includes unlimited champagne and rose?
  3. Palacio de los Jugos - this is a staple of south florida cuisine. I might get some flack for having this on my list, but amongst all the cuban and latin spots I've been to across Hialeah and Miami, I always find myself back here grabbing a meal for like $7 and juice for $3!
  4. Stubborn Seed - I haven't gone since they've gotten their Michelin Star, but I used to frequent this place. What sets the tasting menu at stubborn seed apart in my opinion is the almagamation of dish pacing, food sourcing/creativity, and lineup of ingredients. I don't think there's a singular dish that really sets this restaurant apart from the rest of the modern fine dining options, but more so a extremely well presented and curated dining experience.
  5. Anita Gelato. This spot recently opened in Aventura coming from NYC. It's not a super traditional italian/argentiniam gelato, but the flavor combinations are the best I've ever had. And it's not too sweet. My favorite ice cream/froyo/gelato spot amongst the hundreds I've been to in SoFlo.
Honorable mention goes to Kaeru Sushi for bringing great quality japanese food for an affordable price.* A little extra. South Florida has EXCELLENT latin american food(peruvian, argentinian, columbian, etc.), mediterranean, israeli/jewish delis, italian, caribbean, and much more. I highly recommend checking out any of the above cuisines. DM me if you'd like any specific recommendations.

2024.05.19 13:30 CafeConChangos Everything I Knew About San Pedro When I Was 19

The Vagabond motel will NOT allow anyone under 21 years of age to check-in despite being in the military and traveling to your next duty station.
If you’re interested in meeting old friends from the past, go to Vons on Gaffey. I have no doubt you’ll run into someone from your past there.
Broasted chicken is not widely available. And Slavko’s probably has the best.
Familiar places will come and go - change is inevitable. Tacos, chili dogs, and french fries will not always be available at one restaurant. RIP Pup n’ Taco.

2024.05.19 12:01 Greedy_Donut_7781 July 2024 trip Itinerary check + advice on transportation

Hi dear JapanTravelers,
I’m organising our honeymoon in Japan next July (I’ve heard it might not be the best time but for several reasons it had to be in that period and going to Japan has been our dream since years). I already booked flights and hotels, I would love to hear your thoughts on the itinerary, if you think it can work or if there’s anything you would definitely change.
Important: English is not my native language so sorry in advance if something is not clear; also, I’m not a Japan expert, so some choices might seem pointless to seasoned Japan traveller, that’s why I’m happy to hear any suggestion!
As many other people on this sub, food is an important element of the trip, but so far I reserved only 2 places, for the rest what I understood is that it’s better to do it more “freestyle” and just walk into places that inspire us in that moment.
Walking a lot is not an issue and we actually enjoy it (I take on avg 15-20k steps regularly when not on vacation), so let me know if you think there’s space to do more in one day of the itinerary!
Day 1 (Tokyo): arrive at HND, leave luggages at hotel in Shinjuku and then (not necessarily in this order): - Harajuku - Meiji Jingu - Shibuya crossing - Shibuya Sky - Pokemon Center Then back to hotel and maybe visit Golden Gai in the evening.
Hotel reserved: Groove Hotel Shinjuku
Day 2 (Tokyo): - Ningyocho - Asakusa - Maybe Hanayashi amusement park (not really sure if it’s worth it and how long this could take) - Sumida Park - Tokyo Skytree - Senso-Ji Temple - Ueno Park
Hotel reserved: Groove Hotel Shinjuku Restaurant reserved: Nishi-azabu Taku
Day 3 (Tokyo): - Teamlab Planets (bought tickets for 9am) - Tsukiji Outer market to eat something Then I would like to wander around one or two neighborhoods with no precise itinerary, maybe something good for shopping and/or trying out different types of food; any recommendations?
Hotel reserved: Groove Hotel Shinjuku
Day 4 (Kamakura+Yokohama day trip): I was thinking of taking a train to Kamakura, visit and have lunch there, then take a look at Yokohama on the way back.
Hotel reserved: Groove Hotel Shinjuku
Day 5-6 (Lake Kawaguchi): We will head to Ubuya and will stay there for 2 nights, we will probably just relax or maybe visit the surroundings a bit.
Hotel reserved: Ubuya (2 nights)
Day 7 (Kyoto): We will take a taxi to Mishima station and there maybe grab Hikari 505 to Kyoto, then visit Nishiki Market, Nijo-jo and Kinkaku-ji, plus walk around the city.
Hotel reserved: Yasaka Yutone Kyokoyado
Day 8 (Kyoto + Nara day trip): - Arashiyama Bamboo forest very early morning - Take Sightseeing Aoniyoshi Kintetsu for Nara and spend the day there (Nara Park, Todai ji, Botanical Garden) - Back to Kyoto and enjoy dinner at ryokan
Hotel reserved: Yasaka Yutone Kyokoyado
Day 9 (Himeji + Hiroshima) - Stop by Himeji for lunch and visit the castle, on the way to Hiroshima; - Arrive at Hiroshima and visit Atomic Bomb Dome, Peace Memorial Museum and Peace Memorial Park
Hotel reserved: Sheraton Grand Hiroshima
Day 10 (Hiroshima + Miyajima): Ferry to Miyajima early morning and spend most of the day there (any important recommendations here?), then back to Hiroshima in the evening
Hotel reserved: Sheraton Grand Hiroshima
Day 11 (Osaka):
Hotel reserved: W Osaka
Day 12 (Osaka + Kobe day trip): - Travel to Kobe (still unsure if we will take a taxi or a train) and visit Sannomiya (where we have a reservation for lunch), Chinatown and then take the ropeway and visit Herb Garden. - Back in Osaka in the evening and enjoy nightlife.
Hotel reserved: W Osaka Restaurant reserved: Royal Mouriya
Day 13-19: We will then take a flight from Osaka to a nearby country to spend the rest of the vacation relaxing at a resort. The flight from Osaka will be around 10am, so I don’t think there will be time for an early morning visit to some places in Osaka worth it, but let me know if you have any suggestions.
Day 20 (Haneda): We will fly back to Haneda in the evening and will stay there at Villa Fontaine Premier, because we have the flight back home the following morning. Might sound as a weird question but do you have any recommendations on things to do/Places to eat around the airport? We will probably be quite tired and will have to wake up early, so we probably won’t be willing to go far from there.
Last but not least, a key element on which I need your advices is transportation between cities: I would love to surprise my wife with unusual and/or luxury experiences; any idea in this regard for the following?
What do you think? Thanks so much in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this and share their thoughts! <3

2024.05.19 11:42 Asleep_Magazine_5528 I (25M) made a huge mistake with (24F) - was it the mistake or was she not even interested before this?

I (25M) matched with a girl (24F) on hinge. We were texting each other once every day or so for just over a week then organised to go on a date. The date went great - she did mention that she has accounting exams coming up soon with her job so she was going to be busy the next couple of months. But we both had a great time and I had no doubts we wanted to see eachother again after the date - she even gave me her umbrella to take home as it was raining and she got a taxi home.
We continued texting once a day - finding out more in common and I mentioned that I’m a fan of Mexican food and she said she is too and she said that could be our next date idea. She then asked when I was free and I booked a restaurant (2 weeks after the first date as she was busy due to a family wedding the weekend after the first date). She also mentioned that as it’s September now, it’s go time in terms of revision.
We met up at the restaurant and the date went fine, again no doubts and lots in common. She mentioned that due to a health condition she doesn’t like to drink alcohol when it’s super hot so she ordered a mocktail instead with her food.
We then went to a rooftop bar afterwards which I’d booked as the weather was really warm. When we got to the rooftop, the girl said it feels hotter up here than it does downstairs (which it did) and she asked me to push a button on my side of the table (I think she assumed it may have been connected to a fan). But when I pushed the button the outdoor heaters turned on which was quite embarrassing and the people in the bar started laughing. I laughed too but it did throw me off and make me feel awkward. The girl did apologise to me and them and was laughing too.
But we sat down and continued chatting - I felt the conversation wasn’t flowing as well due to the awkwardness but there were no awkward silences. I ordered a cocktail but the menu was a little limited for mocktails - I did ask her if she wanted to go somewhere else but she said don’t worry it’s ok. She ended up just having water.
Once i finished my drink, she said she’s going to head off so we walked to the train station together - we didn’t stay at the rooftop for very long. I was still feeling awkward as the last part of the date didn’t go how I’d hoped but I asked if she wanted to go out again and she said yeah definitely so I gave her a quick kiss and said bye.
I messaged her on instagram while I was on my way home and just gave her my phone number and said let me know when you’re home.
She texted me that evening and said ‘hey thanks for dinner tonight - honestly next time you have to let me get the bill! It was v good to see you again. Hope you got home okay x’.
I replied that Thursday evening and said ‘hey no worries it’s all good, but you’re organising the next one’. She then reacted to that message with a little heart on Saturday and said ‘how’s your Saturday been, sorry for the late reply been super busy my sister is visiting😂’ - she did mention that her sister was visiting before we went on the second date. I replied on the Sunday with general convo. She replied on the Monday as usual, being communicative, telling me about her weekend and all the things she did and also asking me more about what I was doing. She also said ‘so not a productive weekend in terms of revision😭’
I replied on the Tuesday, making general conversation again. I didn’t hear back from her on Wednesday, Thursday (which was when I started to get anxious) or Friday. I assumed she had a busy week with work and revision so I’d hear back Friday evening. I also noticed that at some point after the second date she changed one of her prompts on her hinge dating profile - a small change from ‘give me travel tips to Thailand’ to ‘give me travel tips to Miami’. She didn’t update any pictures or anything else and as we’d only been out twice I’m guessing this is normal? She also mentioned on the second date that she’d booked her Miami holiday.
I still didn’t hear back from her and then made a massive mistake Saturday morning and sent her another message which said ‘if you weren’t interested why not just say. You’re a bit of an arsehole to say you wanna go out again, pay and all that then just ignore me’. She responded an hour and a half later and said ‘I wasn’t trying to ignore you - I was genuinely busy this week. But you calling me an arsehole is so uncalled for and tbh I don’t want to see someone who’s going to call me names so I’d rather just call it a day’. I called to try and apologise but she didn’t pick up so I messaged ‘I get you’re busy with exams. Like I fully understand that but it takes 2 seconds to say hey I’m busy right now I’ll get back to you. Tbh it comes across like you’re not interested and a bit rude. So I’m sorry I called you an arsehole but I called you as I wanted to chat to you quickly’. She replied and said ‘sorry missed your call - I’m out. Yeah fairs I get that but the exams are my priority. I feel like I’ve said what I need to say and think it’s just best if we leave it here’. I messaged again trying to sort it out but she didn’t reply. I gave it three weeks and apologised more sincerely and she said it’s all good no hard feelings but she’s got a lot on right now so she doesn’t think it would be best to give it a second chance. I said if it’s the exams I don’t mind if you wanna speak again after they’re all done, but she didn’t reply to that message.
I reached out again after a couple months as I saw her on the same dating app and her profile was updated with new pictures and she said she just doesn’t see this going anywhere and good luck with everything - she then blocked me. I’m assuming she was finished with her exams by this point.
I fully understand that I was completely in the wrong with the way I reacted and I’ve learnt the lesson and won’t ever speak to anyone like that again - I regret it so much because I could see myself liking her and she honestly seemed like the most perfect girl, although we only went on 2 dates and spoke for a month. But do you think it was me calling her an arsehole that caused her to end it (completely valid if so) or if she just wasn’t feeling it before this and I gave her an easy way out?

2024.05.19 11:11 Twilightzone777 Big fall out with my mum and her best friend

So I (21f) was out yesterday with my friend. My mum was also out with her cousin and her best friend. My mums friend well call her Carly have been friends for 40 years and have never fell out. My friend was going to a party after we were out so my mum suggested that I come and meet her and her friends for drinks as she had booked a table at restaurant. I said maybe as I was up early for work the next day. After having some drinks with my friends I decided to go and meet with my mum and her friends. I get to the bar before them and it is extremely busy and there is no sign of my mum or her friends. I meet them and we try to go in and the bouncer is not letting us in. We eventually get in and go to the bar to show them our booking. There isn’t an empty table in sight. They get us a table and we sit. The seats are soaking wet and my mums cousin is basically passed out on the table. They ordered drinks and I didn’t want anything. I was getting to the point where I had already had a few drinks and was ready to just call it a night. I told my mum that I was going to head home and she said no and said I would be selfish for leaving. There was a big event on in the city I was living in so I could understand if she was worrying about safety but she said that it would make people think I didn’t want to be with her and her friends. I said okay and stayed. They got food and began eating it. After maybe fifteen minutes I said to my mum I’m going to head and get the train home and that my boyfriend was going to pick me up from the train station. She starts calling me selfish again and telling me how inconsiderate I am then proceeds to say to go home with your boring boyfriend then. She was being quite passive aggressive with me this whole time. When she made the comment about my boyfriend I had had enough and left. I was extremely upset. My mums friends Carly then phones me and tells me to come back as she doesn’t want me to go home myself. I walk back to the bar and she asked me what happened. I told her and we went back into the restaurant together. I sat with Carly and she said to my mum to stop being horrible. This is when everything blows up. My mum starts shouting at the two of us. Charley was saying that my mum shouldn’t have said that about my boyfriend. My mum had had a lot to drink and this was most likely a factor in her reacting this way. I never said my mum was horrible nor did I expect for Carly to say anything. I was just upset and wanted to go home. My mum eventually storms out the restaurant and Carly runs after her. Carly come back after ten minutes saying that she will have to get my mums cousin home herself and how she doesn’t know what’s happening. My mum phones me and tells me to come and meet her. I am extremely upset at this point as these are the two most important women in my life. I go and meet her and she starts shouting at me. She was asking me what I said to Carley and that they had never had an argument before. I told her I told carley what she had said to me. She denied it all and said I was lying. She then starts making personals digs at meant aren’t true or fair to say. My mum phones carley and carley and my mums cousin show up. Everything seems fine again they had a laugh and then my mum starts arguing again. She is now shouting in the middle of the streets. She is saying she hates me and that I was fake crying and that this whole situation was my fault. I was hysterical at this point. My mum won’t let me come home with her even though me and carley were trying to convince her to get a taxi home with us she refused. My mum ended up saying to carley that she was a shot friend because she did remember my grans death anniversary or my mum and dad 25th wedding anniversary (my dad passed a few years ago). My mum then storms off and I stay with carley. Carley wasn’t that bothered about the argument until now as she said my mum had too much to drink and everything would be fine in the morning. But now she was extremely upset. Carley has been through a lot with us she was there for us when my dad and gran died she still to this day stays over at our house sometime we go to her house for Christmas dinner. She is basically an aunt to me. I got home before my mum and told my little sister what had happened. She said to me to be the bigger person and that our mum probably just had too much to drink as my mum can lose her temper quite easily sometimes. My mum was walking home from the train station and asked my sister to come and walk with her. I asked her to ask if I could come too my mum said no she doesn’t want to see me along with some nasty words I won’t repeat. They both come home my mum slams a sore and just keeps yelling at me and telling me to F off. I told her I was sorry for leaving the bar and I asked if we could talk about it and she continued to yell at me. It is now the next day I am currently at work and honestly scared to go home. Can any recommended any advice as I genuinely don’t know what to do in this situation

2024.05.19 10:30 Victorinox_007 [TOMT][MOVIE][2000s] Cop action/thriller movie about a drug sting operation gone wrong

I dont remember the whole plot basically a federal agent (im pretty sure played by Samuel L Jackson) is waiting for a sting operation, basically he was gonna walk into a restaurant, where a gang member would hand him a news paper containing drugs, HOWEVER, a dorky highschool teacher (im pretty sure he was a hs teacher) sits in his place and gets the newspaper
Then suddenly the local PD shows up to arrest the teacher (someone tipped them off). The federal agent is not happy at all, he shouts at the cops that they are interfering with a federal investigation and to "run his plates" and sure enough his vehicle comes back as a federal vehicle.
Meanwhile the gang members have escaped and the teacher arrested and sent to a police station. The agent goes there and when finds the teacher in the female holding cell because the cops at the station did not have the heart to put him in the male one.

2024.05.19 08:46 InitialRemarkable455 What do you do for recreational activities?

I noticed that in gurugram wine and beer shops are decorated with lights as if they are highway dhabas/restaurants or hi-fi malls. Just real malls and thekas decorated as malls. That's the only thing that exists in gurgaon for fun. During my childhood we used to have games period only once or twice a week. Even during those periods all were busy preparing for jee. Indian kids are least interested in sports. I used to make bow and arrows out of broom sticks and try to imitate ramayan Mahabharat characters by holding the arrow in front of my forehead, murmur some gibberish and then letting go of the drawn arrow on some toy placed at a distance. My father snapped and broke my bow and arrows. He was like, "not sending you to such an expensive school just so that you could become a tribal hunter. Go study". One of my father's friends had once gifted me a mouser bb gun for fifth or sixth birthday. My father was furious and angry at him for gifting his son a gun. He was like guns are banned in USA. Guns as toys are for bad kids. I used to like watching martial arts based movies and imitate their actions alone. Father gaslit me by saying that I was trying to be a future criminal. As martial arts are only for goons, thugs, killer, police, army or ultra rich people who just want to show off medals as status symbol. He wanted me to focus only on studies.
Rich shitty kids in my school had Xbox, PlayStation and PC games. They discriminated against me because of obvious status difference. So I had no friends, no siblings or any good memories while growing up. Girls in my class only wanted to hang with those boys who used to play football or basketball for school team. I was good at goalkeeping because of my natural reflexes and height and was also good at taking penalty kicks because of brute strength. But I wasn't good at tackling or dribbling. I used to do a lot of fouls. That's not the reason for which I wasn't allowed to play by the way. The real reason was that they didn't want to get embarassed by me who was a "poor loser" according to them. They used to belittle me because of my looks, skin colour and lack of money. So getting humbled by me on playground obviously used to hurt their ego. Because of that they didn't use to let me play.
Every one in my office just smokes tobacco or drinks alcohol. That is the definition of having a good time or celebration according to them. I noticed that Indians just drink(alcohol), spit(paan gutka), smoke (tobacco) and do drugs. Like isn't there anything else for recreational activities? In urban areas there's malls and I think one can go for hiking or trekking too. But even there Indian gen z and millennials just want to do gaanja and charas at Manali or any other hill station. Why are Indians so much into drugs?
Most of the MMA coaching centres are frauds as per the reviews on Google pages. They charge a leg or an arm but whatever they teach isn't that good as per the reviews.
I want to go to uttrakhand for river rafting, bunjee jumping, sky diving or para gliding. But don't feel brave enough because of the fact that it's India after all. What if the parachute doesn't open, what if the chord breaks, what if the bunjee cable breaks, what if I drown....and also the charges as per Indian economy is too high. As per Indian economy the charges should not be as high as they are. Maybe within a year or two I will finally got for it.

2024.05.19 07:31 La0sha Does anyone else feel like customers are losing it?

Today I waited on a local accountant who spent part of her visit talking to her family about "some stupid fucking server down in Cape" (as I stood at their table, waiting for her drink order) and then ended it with chasing me to the door of our server station into the restaurant, shouting, "No! NO!" when I told her I was going to go get a manager because she kept arguing with me, getting louder and more disrespectful. It just never ceases to amaze me how some people will act in front of God and everyone in public right down the road from their homes.

2024.05.19 07:00 Negative-Season-189 Need a place to live in for school?

Hey guys! I just wanted to come on here and let people know that I have a 2 bed 1 bath unit available for rent in the middle of July. Perfect for a couple who goes to school together or a pair of friends. This unit is for rent for $2500 per month. If you’re looking for somewhere for just yourself, we also have 1 bed with a private bathroom available in a 2bed2bath penthouse. This room will be for rent for $1500 per month. All utilities are included in the price. Parking is also available for extra. Brentwood is 1 train station or 2 bus stops away from the university. It’s a 10 minute walking distance as well with many restaurants and grocery stores nearby for easy access to students. Both units are high-rise and the building is very secure. I saw a couple of posts about people having troubles with housing on here so I just thought I’d reach out!

2024.05.19 04:54 lugubrieuzz just got canned

Longtime lurker, recently got fired in the middle of a slow Friday, honestly relatively surprising at least in the moment but looking back not so much. I was exhausted with my old restaurant and not making quite enough money, and got an opportunity to do something new for a bit more (paid in cash haha), and I was hoping to grow from there. Was a slow start but by the time I was fired I had actually learned the station and was performing, aftee spending roughly two weeks (& mother's day) really killing myself trying to learn the station. It's really disheartening that in reality they needed someone for mother's day and to finish out the last very busy weeks, and I was not needed afterwards. I'm deeply disheartened from the experience but I'm trying not to let it spiral me out into a depression. It was pretty rough finding a better job than the last and this was a GREAT opportunity, which seriously hurts. I'm gonna dust myself off and move on to the next opportunity that comes but I'm still deeply frustrated. I'm at a point where I am trying to grow in terms of my skillset & to some extent career, but I feel in a way I can't surpass myself where I'm at. I'm not satisfied with where my skills have developed to, but I'm not sure how to move forward. I want to improve and you know, achieve some dreams one day, but currently I feel like I'm stuck at working in fundamentals and running in circles trying to get better but not getting there.
This is kindof a rant post but any advice would be wonderful, thanks.

2024.05.19 04:32 LobsterFarts Thoughts on 10 days in Italy

I visited this beautiful country between May 1 - 11, but was not prepared for the amount of tourism, which I must say ultimately left me a little sour about the experience. We stuck with all the major attractions and sights so I know we shouldn’t be surprised by the crowds, but I’ve still never seen tourism at this level. That said, I may have had a better time if I didn't try to pack everything in as much as I did.
Our itinerary was:
Day 1: Land in Milan
Day 2: Train from Milan to Lake Como
Day 3: Train from Lake Como to Cinque Terre (my favorite part of the trip)
Day 5: Train from Cinque Terre to Florence
Day 8: Train from Florence to Rome
Day 10: Train from Rome back to Milan for our departing flight the next day
Lake Como and Cinque Terre (CT) were my favorite parts that I wish I allotted more time for.
While Lake Como is beautiful and I wish we had more time to explore some spots I had saved, it did feel a little soulless. We stayed in Varenna and took the ferry to Bellagio. Both areas feel like resort towns that exist solely for tourism. Other areas might have a less catering vibe. Also, the number of young women taking shots for the 'gram and giving you dirty looks because you ruined their 20-minute photoshoot is nauseating.
The train that runs between the 5 towns in CT gets packed to the brim with people during peak hours (~10 a.m. - 5 p.m.). On our arrival day I tried to get off the train for our final stop and I literally got stuck between people; I was able to lift my feet off the ground for a few seconds and not get anywhere like a cartoon character.
We visited CT to hike the Blue Path and no regrets there. Absolutely stunning and the only time we didn't feel overwhelmed with people (started hiking around 8 a.m. in Monterosso). But if you're just taking the train between towns you'll do almost as much hiking from the train stations to the main parts of all 5 towns. The only one we didn’t properly visit was Manarola so maybe that town has a short walk from the train station? I think there are vans/buses that take people from some of the train stations into town, but you'll be waiting amongst crowds and nothing is clearly noted.
Florence: we stayed right near the Ponte Vecchio and I do not recommend. Again, the number of people and crowds ruin it. I thought it would be nice/convenient staying near the Uffizi and the bridge, but it wasn't worth it. Unless you’re shopping for jewelry, the bridge can be much more appreciated from a distance. The location also isn't ideal because no matter what I tried we couldn't get a taxi; I downloaded apps, called taxi hubs, tried Uber, but no one would come to our location or offer alternative pick up spots. The city is very walkable, but we came down with food poisoning so by the end I was hoping to grab a taxi to the train station to alleviate some of the dejectedness I was feeling. We visited the Uffizi, Accademia, and the Piazzale Michelangelo, but I was happy to leave Florence. I felt like I couldn't escape the smell of cigarettes the entire time.
Rome: I think by this point were a bit weary from the food poisoning, crowds, and the amount of walking we did with our backpacks. Thankfully though no issues getting taxis/Ubers around Rome. Despite what people say about Trastevere being "overrated" now, stay there. It's easily the nicest part of Rome. My second recommendation would be Prati. We had tickets to visit the Vatican Museum and I wish we made the effort but this was the last leg of the trip and we were just over it so we spent our full day in Rome walking to all the sights: Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Roman Forum, and Janiculum Hill.
Rome was nice and I enjoyed it more than Florence, but it also felt run down. We had a running joke that ambulances were following us because we could not escape the sirens. I know, it’s all part of history and maybe I’m just not sophisticated enough to appreciate its historical magnitude, but honestly, pass.
Public transit: Getting on ferries and trains felt like a fight each time which added some physical and mental fatigue. I highly recommend sticking to high-speed trains if possible because you can reserve your seat; it doesn’t matter if you book first class or standard, they’re basically the same. Trains where you don’t reserve your, good luck. We stood for 1.5hrs from CT to Florence CRAMMED in. Each time the train stopped more people would squeeze in but eventually we had to stop people from boarding.
The trains were occasionally running a couple minutes late and there was a 24hr strike during our stay but nothing that impacted our trip. Don’t feel like you must show up for your train more than ~10 minutes in advance, your train’s platform number likely won’t be displayed until about 5 – 10 minutes out. You’ll just stand around unnecessarily stressing yourself out otherwise.
Was this a magical trip? No, not really. Would I visit Italy again? Possibly with some time and with plans to stick to the more natural scenery. I did want to visit the Italian Dolomites but they were still snow covered during our visit.
I think another factor that contributed to it not being the “magical” experience you hope for is we had to stick to schedules the entire time and that’s not a typical fun vacation for me; whether it was the trains, museum/attraction entrance times, or dinner reservations, we frequently had somewhere we had to be. This type of trip didn’t allow for spontaneity. E.g. when we visited Scotland we rented a car and were able to visit random castles and museums without prep work or fighting crowds. Perhaps I could’ve had more fun or spontaneity by seeing less (I definitely wouldn’t want a car within Florence or Rome proper but I think the countryside/smaller towns would be okay), but when you only get so much time off for work, you try to squeeze it all in.
Food: Everyone comes for the main attraction which of course is the various pastas, but Italy does so much better than pasta. Yeah, I said it. The chicken I had there on two separate occasions from two different restaurants? Immaculate. I’ll never have more perfectly cooked chicken again. The deli meats? So flavorful. I ordered a yogurt with lemon and honey in CT (where they grow a lot of lemons) and I’ll think of that fondly for years to come. I also had a fantastic affogato in Florence.
As I mentioned, we did get food poisoning which can happen while traveling, but I did notice unless you’re going to a proper sit down restaurant, you might see people handling your food in ways that are unappetizing. In cafes and sandwich shops and quick bite places like that you won’t see food handlers using gloves and you’ll likely have dirty cups/plates/utensils. Not a big deal for some, not for me though.
We avoided the super touristy areas for our real dinners, but while the pasta was done well, the red sauce just wasn’t hitting for either of us.
I apologize if this comes off as a less than idyllic portrayal of Italy. It’s a beautiful country that is worth a visit, but I wanted to share my experience and maybe highlight it’s not for everyone and that’s okay.

2024.05.19 02:35 Not_Interested_inu Best Cities In The U.P. For Vacation

My husband (42M) and I (41F) are both Michigan natives. We live in Lansing. I've lived here all my life and he is from TC. We plan to retire to the Soo area. Every year we celebrate our anniversary (end of March) in the UP. Last year we stayed in Sault Ste Marie and the year before we stayed in St. Ignace. Because this is our long vacation for the year we always want it to be well planned.
We're the kind of people that will make a list of things we wanna do but not plan a specific day. We plan on being up north March 20th-28th, and will probably have 3-4 thing we absolutely must do, but other than that we like to just relax and enjoy us time and no work. So my question is what cities do you recommend? We'd like to be in a county setting (hence why we love the UP) but about 10 minutes from a city with a grocery store, gas station and restaurants or fast food.
