 | Used hedge trimmers to cut off at least a foot of this Chinese holly as it was as as high as the first horizontal bar in the windows. I heard it’s very hardy and will grow back as long as I only take out one side at a time. Is this correct? Is there anything else I should do here? I just had door dash deliver me a dozen donuts. And there’s some left over cake that I didn’t eat last night on the counter. Oh, and I’m going to stock up on candy bars and potato chips at the market. But I’m trying to lose weight, so please pray for me.
Oh, and while you’re at it, pray for my wife. She’s a recovering alcoholic and we keep booze everywhere. Beer and wine in the fridge, a fully stocked liquor cabinet. But hey, pray that she doesn’t go back to drinking.
There was a man who owned a house next to the river. And it rained heavily and he prayed that God would keep him safe. And the river rose up until the water was near his porch. And the fire department came by and offered him a ride to higher ground. But he declined and told them that God would save him. Later still, the water rose up even higher so that he had to go upstairs to his bedroom to stay dry. And along came a dude in a boat, and offered to take him to higher ground and safety. But he refused and told the boat guy that God would save him. And the water rose some more, and the guy retreated to his rooftop. A coast guard helicopter spotted him and dropped a basket to take him away. But he refused, knowing God would save him.
And he was swept away by the water.
And drowned.

Consider this example to see if you understand grid/flexbox:
Make a vertical bar and a horizontal bar, say, 50px wide/tall depending on the orientation, you can think of them like fat windows taskbars. Organize things to fall into sections (left/top, middle, and right/bottom depending on the orientation). Then, add images of various sizes (2000x2000, 200x10, 10x200, etc) along with other content (text, links, etc) in each section.
The problem that I haven’t seen solved anywhere is to get the images to adapt their sizes “correctly”—which implies by definition that the images not be given fixed dimensions (the point is to understand grid/flexbox, not to have 50px tall images).
The images should shrink naturally so that the cross axis dimension constrains within the boundaries of the bar. If the image is so wide that that dimension will need to shrink to less than the height of the bar to accommodate the width (or height in a vertical bar) then that’s “correct”—however, if there are two images side by side with different heights, then if one’s full height can constrain within the bar then it shouldn’t be forced by the extra-shrunk image to take on a smaller height just because that one did.
I think that example sets up a scenario to demonstrate the issues with images, which I think are the only things that break grid/flexbox. If anyone can solve this, please post because it may be the only solution on the internet.

In the past four weeks, I've deep-dived into the ideal Video settings for my R5. I was never happy with what the camera gave me, so I want to share the following insights just in case they may benefit some of you. It's going to be a bit long winded, read on if you're a nerd and perfectionist like me... Shout out to Jason of Points in Focus on YouTube, as well as Rodrigo Pollo, Josh Sattin and Todd Dominey, who were some of my many sources. There's also a Redditor that has highlighted the wonkiness of Cinema Gammut colors (hi!) and I agree with them.

- Shoot in LOG – IMO, yes, you should. Only this unlocks 10 Bit 4:2:2 which grades really well and runs smoothly provided you're on Silicone machines. Arguably, 10 Bit 4:2:2 h265 in LOG was the true game changing feature the R5 brought into the market, so take advantage.
- For LOG post production, the Canon LUTs work well if you expose as Canon thinks you should. This gets technical quickly and if you just follow the ETTR dogma, Canon's LUTs will clip your highlights into oblivion. A proper CST workflow in Resolve works better but is complicated for novices. In any case, you will have to test your exposure / CST / LUT workflow so I highly recommend you get yourself familiarised with Zebras and False Color tools (if you use an external monitor). The histogram on the R5 is absolutely useless for video exposure. Clipped highlights, not noisy shadows, are the biggest weakness of the R5's image, in my opinion.
- But which LOG flavour and color space? This comes down to your taste, but I have found the following produces the most natural looking footage. I shoot CLOG 1 / BT 2020 at a base ISO of 400. Like everyone else, I jumped on the CLOG 3 / Cinema Gammut Train when the firmware update hit, but I just didn't like the footage 90% of the time. It is proven that the sensor's dynamic range in photography mode is better at ISO 400 than it is at 800 (not surprising) in the Electronic shutter mode (which is what the R5 also uses for video). It's not a huge difference from 800 to 400, but it's there - half to one stop. This was also revealed in the CineD tests – both of them, the initial one as well as the one when they re-tested with CLOG 3. In the manual, Canon claims that CLOG 3 has more dynamic range then CLOG – in theory, maybe. The curve may be designed to give more DR. But on the R5? None of the tests you can find online have properly proven this. The DR is distributed differently, but not necessarily increased. There ARE tests, however, that show the sensor performs better at ISO 400 - so that's what I go with. Bonus: Why not use BT 709? Well, that would defeat the purpose of capturing LOG at 10 Bit 4:2:2 in the first place. You would be throwing out a bunch of color information already at capture.
- There can be severe horizontal Banding in underexposed areas. When I first saw this, I couldn't believe my eyes (check out Josh Sattin's comparison of Z8 with R5 on YouTube to see what I mean). A 5K€ camera was producing big horizontal chunky lines of banding running across the image. I contacted Canon and they claimed not to be able to see anything. WTF. I thought my camera was broken. Then I found this in the manual: With Canon Log, movies may be affected by horizontal banding, depending on the subject or shooting conditions. So I didn't imagine things. It's right there. In. The. Manual. To avoid this, expose correctly. In practical use, a non issue, but still leaves a bitter taste.
- Cinema Gammut, avoid. In my experience, it gives crazy saturation to red, magenta, orange. It may be a wider color space than 2020, but it can look extremely unnatural. I had rare occasions where it did work well, for example with greens and blues, but skin tones were always a pain point. (If you do want to use CLOG 3 and Cinema Gammut, I suggested you go to -1 saturation in the Canon Log Settings.) I realise this point is the most subjective, so if you have a great CineGammut workflow running, I applaud you!
- External Recording – it may work for some of you, but I never bothered. What turns me off the Ninjas is their cost, the noisy fan and hunger for batteries as well as bulk and weight. I shoot mostly Gimbal work nowadays and every gram counts. I bit the bullet and got the fastest Card on the market for internal shooting. If you do use Ninjas, note this: The HDMI interface on the R5 is version 2.0 and it does NOT transmit Cinema Gammut correctly, so set to BT 2020. You will still have to mess around with the legalize settings and post-production hassle (ProRes RAW doesn't work on the dominant Color grading software, Resolve). For me it's a no. Bonus: Make sure your HDMI cable is at least a 2.0 version!
- Sound: Manual recording set to a quarter strength gives you the best audio dynamic range (nod to Jason of Points in Focus, who tested this). Run your mic hot-ish and you'll be fine at this level, it works well with the Rode or Sennheiser video mics. If audio is important for you, AVOID IPB Light as it uses compressed AAC audio. The non-compressed LPCM at 48 Khz / 16 Bit that you get with ALL-I, RAW, IPB is pretty decent and noise-free.
- I can't stress this enough: avoid Auto White Balance! The R5 dials in aggressive amounts of Tint "correction" to combat any perceived color shifts. It just doesn't work well at all unless you're in perfectly clean 6500K daylight. If you shoot LOG h265, getting White Balance right is critical to getting good skintones. Log doesn't mean RAW, you ARE baking color into the image. Unfortunately the Custom WB function is a mess in R5 for video, but you can actually eyeball this quite well off a monitor, if said monitor is set up correctly with a LUT. I use a color meter (LUMU Power 2) to verify, and it helps.
- Rolling Shutter. 8K RAW as well as 4K HQ give you the most rolling shutter at about 15 ms and this is certainly visible in faster paced Gimbal work. Rolling shutter drops to around 9 ms in regular 4K, which is what I now use for Gimbal work. Though it's not a full halving, it's a significant, visible improvement for any panning. I still shoot talking heads in 4K HQ as the Rolling shutter is not an issue with static work. As for my Canon Log settings, I go +1 sharpening for 4K HQ and +3 for regular 4K. That matches them reasonably well.
- 12-Bit RAW has about another half to one stop more DR in the highlights, but is also tougher and more fiddly to grade than the 10 Bit H265. It also defaults to CineGammut so it has the same tendency towards saturated reds. (CRAW gets decoded by default as CineGammut in Resolve.) I tend to prefer the look of the 10 Bit 4:2:2 shot in BT 2020 in terms of color. If you do shoot RAW, I again recommend setting to CLOG 1 in camera – not because that Log curve gets baked into the image (it doesn't), but because it unlocks you ISO 400 shooting. RAW capture at ISO 400 in Clog 1 will then allow you to decode in Resolve using the CLOG 2 curve at ISO 400 and reach the theoretical maximum of DR in terms of any video material from the R5.

 | Ordering a scooter online is a bit of a risky adventure, especially when you review the terms and conditions and the return policy. But, you have to agree to it to be able to place the order. Less risky is buying at a dealer, but you pay a significant premium for the product. I've read horror stories online about folks receiving junk and even non-operating scooters. That is a possiblity, and with the terms to which you agree, very risky. submitted by Nancy48236 to scooters [link] [comments] We were lucky, though, with Family Go Carts (FGK) and the Trailmaster Milano N 50cc scooters. I ordered, online, two Trailmaster Milano N 50cc scooters from FGK - one for me, one for my husband - on May 1, 2024. We received the scooters on May 18, 2024. Considering US shipping demand, that is a reasonable time to delivery. The lady at FGK who called me to coordinate the delivery was kind, and gave instructions on how to receive and prepare for the first run (ie. Change oil - upon arrival, the engine has shipping oil in it). Shipping: "Free", but you have to pay access fee and lift-gate fee. Not too bad considering how shipping rates have skyrocketed in the last few years. She asked for our second choice in colors. Thankfully, we got our first choice - light blue and white for me and black and white for my husband. Unpackaging: Remove cardboard (there's no bottom to the cardboard). Just cut down the cardboard at any one of the corners, then walk around the steel skeleton shipping cage. Then you'll take off the top of the steel shipping skeleton. Undo all bolts and nuts on the bottom. You'll also have to undo the two bolts on the top that attach the steering column fork to the steel cage. Then, just tip off the cage on one end (front end or back end - doesn't matter. Don't tip off from the side; you'll damage the bike), and continue tipping it off to the other end. Assembly: No instructions for it. Some assembly is a no-brainer, but the handlebars and front wheel require explanation. Thankfully, someone posted a video on the assembly of Trailmaster Milano: https://youtu.be/rMyJEkH3b4U?si=VRcDlm2-jIvNNGfC , I couldn't have done it without that video. Handlebar assembly: First, just get the bolt in - front to back, with the curvey part of the washer against the column and between the column and the bolt head. Notice you can't get to the nut on the backside (unless you have 6" fingers of a contortionist). Don't worry like I did. Get the bolt in, assemble the front wheel, then come back the the handlebar column. Turn the bars far to one side. Now you can reach the backside of the bolt and add the nut. We added blue Loctite to the axle and the steering column/handlebar threads for the nuts. Make sure you connect the blinkers. Trial and error to get left blinker coordinating with left blinker connector. Two trials if unlucky - not too bad. You'll still have one body-based connector without a mate. Again, don't worry like I did - that's for the headlight. You'll assemble that later. Front wheel assembly: The front wheel assembly is best with two people. I don't know how one could do this part without another person. First goal is to get the scooter out of the steel shipping skeleton and on flat ground so you can support the scooter on its center stand. Get the scooter out of the remaining base of the steel shipping skeleton. This will require some muscle and two persons. Remove the front axle bolt that holds the scooter by its front fork to the base of the steel shipping skeleton. One straddles the scooter while keeping the front lifted up (shaking up and down) while the other wiggles out the bolt axle which is holding the front fork to the base of the steel (cheap, low-grade extruded steel) shipping skeleton. Once the bolt axle is removed, with muscles, one straddles the scooter while keeping the front lifted up and carefully walking through the steel cage bottom while the other person helps with lifting the front. Roll it out of the bottom of the shipping cage - carefully because you don't want to drop it. It's not a smooth roll out, eiter. Then, once on firm, flat ground, get the scooter center stand down so the scooter rests on that on flat, solid ground. We ended up balancing the frame of the scooter on a block of wood, then putting the center stand down. Now, work on the front wheel. Slip the silver-colored, stainless axle bolt spacer into the wheel's disc side. It's frustrating getting the wheel on because you have to get the brake disc lined up with the brake pads (remove the pad spacer put in for shipping and toss it) on the port side of the scooter and the speedometer on the scooter's starboard side correctly lined up with the wheel and fork, ALL that simultaneously while getting it lined up to insert the axle. Fun times! You may end up with assembly partners snapping at each other and swearing - a lot. Persistence and patience and it will get done. Add blue Loctite for final tightening on the axle/lug nut. Oil change: Drain out all the shipping oil. There's a lot in there. After draining, we added about two cups of 15W40. Check the dip stick to make sure your oil level is adequate. Headlight and front cowl assembly: Connect the headlight to the body-based headlight connector. Use the included zip ties to secure all the wires out of the way and neatly, without putting too much strain on any connections. Make sure you put the U-shaped, color matched plastic cover (in horizontal plane) separating the handlebars speedometer instrument from the front cowl. Snap it into the tabs. THEN, attach the front headlight cowl to the body. Don't do like I did - get the headlight front cowl section on then try to snap in the cover. I had to remove the headlight front cowl, snap in the color-matched cover, then re-attach the front headlight cowl. Topcase/trunk: Best with two persons, but can be done with one. Big enough for a half helmet, gloves, goggles, wallet, and other little things. Looks good on the scooter, too. Battery installation: This can be tricky. You have to have a square nut below the terminal screw. If you put the battery in the scooter and try to get those nuts under the terminal, you won't be able to do it. If you just try to balance the square nuts on the battery while dropping the battery into the scooter's battery compartment, the square nuts fall off. We decided to secure the nuts to the battery terminals with a half-turn of the terminal screw. Then drop the battery in and complete connections. First, connect the black, then connect the red. The batteries we received were fully charged. Moment of truth: Put premium gas in the tank. Since the carburetor is empty, you'll have to let the starter work a bit to get gas flowing into the engine. It didn't even require three total minutes to get it started. Run the starter for about 30-60 seconds, stop, repeat. Three times and it started right up. Whew. Let it run for a while. Both scooters had a good idle speed and sounds like the aifuel mix is spot on. One sees many horror stories about buying Chinese scooters online from dealers. And, those stories are bad. As I said above, you have to agree to the terms and conditions before you can buy. Those terms and conditions put almost all the risk on the buyer, not the dealer. So, know what you're getting into. But, thankfully, FGK did well. We received both Trailmaster Milano N 50 scooters in a timely manner, without damage, and the scooters fired up right away. Finally, registration of your scooter in your state: My state, Virginia, requires registration of 50cc scooters so you can display the required license tag on the back. To register, you need a title. You don't get a title from this dealer. But, you get enough documentation from the dealer (manufacturer's transfer document, invoice, bill of lading) where you can fill out an easy affidavit for title. Get it notarized and submit with your title application and registration. Pretty easy and far easier and quicker than waiting for the dealer to do it for you, IF the dealer is willing to do it for you, that is. I didn't even ask FGK for their title transfer document, so I can't comment on their responsiveness to such a request. I did the easy work-around at the DMV. So far, so good. I've gotten it up to 32 MPH (speedo reading, not GPS-confirmed), and that wasn't at full throttle. I live in a hilly area, so that 32 MPS was on a relatively flat area with a very slight downhill grade. The inherent four-stroke power situation is obvious on our steep hills, but that's life with a four-stroke. I'm still being careful with getting to full throttle until the engine has a bit of time to break in. I am aware that we will have to wrench these scooters from time to time. That's the price trade-off for a low-cost Chinese scooter. We are willing to pay this price. Thanks to so many videos available online about how to work on the 139QMB GY6 50cc engines, I think we can do this. (Edit to add: I attached a brown leather drink holder to the steering bars, just below the speedometer instrument, using a black velcro strap with a D-ring.. So, that's what that brown thing is - a drink holder. Perfect size for a cafe-bought coffee or a can of soda. It has some insulation, too, like any can cozy. Hi all. So I think I’m one of the biggest people on here (Sw 467lbs). I have a lot to lose and it will be a long journey. I started 28th of March and I’m in week 8 I believe. I weigh daily to see what my body is doing. Sometimes it’s up, sometimes down sometimes it stays the same. It’s interesting to see the trend.
Today I have crossed the 40lbs lost milestone. I’m ecstatic and can’t quite believe it. I’ve never lost this much before. I don’t feel like I’m deprived and I’ve worked hard in staying within calories (1500 daily). As mentioned before I have had treats too, I’ve had 1 McDonald’s, 2 Nando’s, 1 takeaway , chocolate, cake, fizzy drinks. But all tracked and all in moderation and not consumed as how I would normally have.
I’ve not binged once. I have upped my steps from 2000 to 5000. Walking instead of driving short distances, parking further away or just walking to the park with the children.
My life is definitely improving, I am certainly healthier. My stamina when walking is great, my back doesn’t hurt when I walk anymore. Before I would need to take painkillers if I were to go out shopping or anything walking related. I’m seriously contemplating signing up to the gym to boost my cardio and start weights, but I don’t want to push myself too much too quick because that has been my downfall previously.
I am currently on 5mg and will stay on 5 in my next round. I just wanted to share my happiness. Give hope to those starting on their journey and especially to those with a large number to lose.
No one knows about the weight loss bar my husband and parents and no one else has mentioned the weight loss so it’s probably not as noticeable but I don’t care. I’m not doing this for them. I’m doing it for me and my future and to be with my kids as long as I can.

in my humble opinion i'm doing exceptionally well (i mean, at least in comparison to those around me) and would like to share with the public some of my simple yet effective ways of getting rid of unsatisfactory habits and implementing new ones.
1) sleep schedule - as you have probably heard before sleep is absolutely vital (i'm not even going to explain it). but the question is how does one not procrastinate and go to bed early? in the past, i found myself always thinking "just a few more minutes", which ended up being hours. was it worth it? maybe in the moment, i thought it was - hey, i could even watch a few more youtube videos or something - but the next day, i realized it was not. a bad night's sleep ruins the entirety of tomorrow. and in the long term, it's not worth it either (unless you want to be perpetually tired). it's never worth sacrificing the future for short-term pleasure. trust me, i witness this phenomenon every day when i see walking zombies at school. i'm concerned for them. anyhow, it's easy to say but hard to do, and requires discipline. complete your necessary tasks asap (work, assignments, meals, nightly ablutions), and devote an hour or two to your own pastimes. you will realize, there is sufficient time, it's just usually not used wisely.
2) working out - going to the gym is hard. i know. there's always the fear of the regulars and the judging gazes they give you as you lift lighter weights than they do. there's an easy solution to this - learn to not care. nobody's really looking. nobody really cares. they're all more concerned about themselves. although i may be lifting less than they are, at least i am there. being there is something in itself. at least i dragged myself to the gym and am attempting to improve upon my fitness. lifting even one kilogram surpasses lifting zero kilograms, which is if you don't show up. consistency. is. important. if you want to improve, you have to keep at it. set a goal for yourself, even if it's a low bar. the first few days are the hardest. get through the beginning, and the rest becomes a habit.
3) eating healthy - my life hack is 'out of sight, out of mind.' if there's no junk food around me, i won't even think about eating it. when it's there, i will feel the obligation to eat it before the expiration date. when it's not, I generally just completely forget about it. there's also this self-delusion method i used on myself, which is convincing yourself that you do not like a certain food. you absolutely despise it. it's similar to developing a habit - over time, you will forget your desire for it, and you will no longer crave it. (i mean, it worked for me and my crazy yearning for sweets, fried food, and the sort when i was a kid).
4) screen time - sometimes i look around and wonder when everyone suddenly became a phone addict. my friends won't even talk to me. i understand that screens are intriguing. they entertain us and can keep us occupied for hours on end. my friends, my classmates, everyone - are always doom scrolling. we can all be sitting at a table and completely, utterly, silent. because everyone is on their device. even when they're eating, which is ridiculous to me. don't get me wrong - i used to fall for this trap, too. how did i overcome it? easy. there's a screen time restriction option on ios for a reason. i placed regulations on myself to half an hour on addictive apps, which i later minimized to ten minutes. sure, it allows me the option to ignore it, and sometimes i do. but even so, at least i am actively aware of the time i am wasting by watching second-long videos that go on and on, and honestly have close to no relevance to my life. perform this single action, and cut your screen time from 15 hours a day (my friends) to less than an hour (me).
the key to motivation is self-discipline and perseverance. i know firsthand how easily motivation can be quelled, especially in this world where our confidence can so easily be crushed by people around us. when we see people living such glamorous lives on social media, we think "oh, i'll never achieve such a life." by doing so, our reasons for improvement diminish. keep in mind that people who thrive are the way they are because of their hard work and endurance. do not compare yourself to others, and do not concern yourself with the judgment of others. in reality, they do not care about you. everyone's only focusing on themselves, so you should too. love yourself. do yourself a favor and start small. one day, you will look back and see how far you've come.
