2024.05.19 17:42 dummyslashbinch Did my coworker give me mixed signals and should I act on it?

Please be kind, I feel a bit delusioned because I crushed heavily on my male coworker.
We started at this facility around September and always chatted about work stuff. We worked at the same previous facility but didn't cross paths because he went to higher acuity by the time I started. Because we knew all of the same people, we went down a rabbit hole talking about them and drawing on similar experiences during our orientation. It always struck me how observant and perceptive he was. Kinda scary his opinions on people always aligned with mine but we sadly didn't talk enough to open up about personal lives. He seems like a very respectful dude.
By the time I developed a proper crush on him, our orientation ended so I went to nights and he stayed on days. I decided to let it happen naturally even though we barely saw each other at this point. I casually brought up an upcoming, major union meeting. He told me "I'll go with you if you want. I have your number, I'll text you. We can figure out a time that works with days/nights." This was a month out from the meeting. A few days before the meeting I followed up with him through text and he sounded dodgy. I was super bummed. He said he needed to get an oil change so maybe the 4 pm hopefully. It didn't sound concrete so I backed off and said "no worries, I'll just go to the 8 am."
In person, he never mentioned the union meeting or our text messages. But he was cordial and always said hi. I took report from him around this time on a patient and his phone rang during the midst of it. He picked up and answered to them "I don't know. I'm at work rn." He sounded curt. He went right back into report without saying excuse me or anything. His phone rang another two times during report and he silenced them. I had a strong feeling this was a girlfriend or someone he was dating. Days later, one of my close coworkers told me he mentioned his "girl" in a casual conversation. He never once disclosed about a girlfriend to me but we had more rapport from working together than he did with this other coworker. So I wonder if he knew I had a crush or peeped him, got serious with someone in that short time, and then felt awkward talking about it in front of me?
It's been two ish months since that happened. He's been respectful.
I recently had my hair done (a noticeably different color job), and all of my male coworkers (whether taken or single) told me it looked nice in a platonic way. He strangely was the only one who didn't. Even RTs who barely knew me stopped to tell me the new hair looked good. I wonder if he avoided it or wanted to stay professional because he knew he gave me the wrong idea before or maybe he at one point did notice me?
Then just recently, he gave me report on a spiraling patient. Change of shift was a bit chaotic but I told him I got it from here. He texted me later around 10 pm (no text between us since the union meeting exchange)
"Sorry for bothering you hope you're not bubsy but I was just asking if *patient info* is okay, I been stressing since I left lmao"
me: Aww don't stress, she's doing fine and her family spent some time. She's sleeping quite deely now. You did most of the heavy lifting
coworker: Okay good thank you! It's a team effort
me: no worries, get rest!
That was the end of it. I figured he would never text me or give me any reason to wonder after the union meeting incident. I imagine he felt bad for not following through with offering to go. I know he still kept it professional in these texts and it wasn't anything suggestive.
I spoke to all of my close friends, some of them male/female couples and they said the relationship he has is still young and that he may have once noticed me but didn't act on it. They said, for my own benefit, it wouldn't hurt to talk to him and just tell him something along the lines of "hey, I really like you but I know you're with someone. If you're ever available, we could get to know each other more." I feel like this is crazy and would make him uncomfortable. Plus he doesn't seem like the type of guy to disrespect his partner. They said if I really like him and think we're compatible this might be the only time frame to get away with this because he just got into a relationship.. otherwise it'll be too late. I don't know how to squash this crush. I haven't liked someone in this long. I don't have a problem landing dates or meeting people but they all seem so lame compared to him.
Asking fellow nurses because maybe normal subreddits wouldn't understand the details about work.
FYI, I don't care for the "don't shit where you eat mentality" I see plenty of nurses working out and in 5 years, I've worked at 4 different facilities. I never stay at one place over a year and a half.

2024.05.19 17:41 ImCursedM8 [REQUEST] [STEAM] Dark souls 3- $20 on driffle.com

Hello, I am kinda new to this sub and still trying to figure out some stuff, I just hope I didn't make any mistake with Post Format.
I am not too familiar with this sub and at first when I found out about it I was actually kinda surprised to learn there was any sort of website out there in deep parts of the internet where people were willing to give away some games to people who were desperate for it but didn't have the means to buy them themselves , but I actually witness the opposite of my skepticism.
many of those that had posted in here actually had their wish fulfilled, and that gave me hope to, maybe, also try my luck here.
Games are something most of us, by the moniker of " gamer ", enjoy thoroughly in our free time. Whether it is to escape the real life struggles or just feel something that cannot be felt it the said real life, doesn't really matter. All of us enjoy games for one reason or another.
What really matters tho, is the feeling bliss all of us feel when playing the game either with our friends or just enjoy the struggles and outcomes of fictional characters' lives.
I still remember how much fun I had as a child when my father brought me my first PC and I downloaded GTA San Andreas there.
sadly, I haven't enjoyed games much in those last couple years, not as I used to as kid. at least, not until few months ago when I tried souls games, mainly Elden ring.
I didn't know much about souls games till I tried Elden RIng, and man. it was such an amaizing journey from beginning to the end. I already put more then 160 hours in it. but as much fun as it is, eventually I stopped playing it as I memorized pretty much everything in the game and it was not as fun to play as it was in the first few playthroughs.
and just as I finally let go of Elden ring and returned to my dull life, my friend decided to invite my friends and me at sleep over and when I got there I saw Dark souls 3 installed on their desktop. I was bored in that moment and booted it to have some fun and kill time.
I was miserable in the first hour. it took some time to get used to the controls which were beet different from that of Elden RIng's but once it clicked, it was never the same afterwards.
I played the whole game that night and didn't even pay my friends any attention, even tho I was there to have fun with bros to begin with haha.
This was my second time having so much fun playing a game since my childhood. Dark souls 3 and Elden ring reignited the fun of playing games that i thought was slowly disappearing inside of me.
I don't have a game myself on Pc so I have been staying over with my friend for a while, playing it as much as I possible can before he gets finally annoyed and kicks me out haha.
I just love dark souls 3.
I love how hopeless and melancholic the whole world is. I love how miserable everything feels. the whole world feels like it is dying and just can't keep on going. I love the NPCs, each more interesting then the other.
If Elden Ring is power fantasy adventure. then Dark souls 3 is just a miserable tragic tale of a dying world.
as much as it is fun to annoy my friend by staying over doing nothing but playing that game, I would like to own it too on Pc. sadly, I been struggling financially lately. not just me but my whole country.
I cannot afford Dark souls 3 on my own so I would like to make an humble request here. IF any of you kind redditors have opportunity to gift me this beautiful game, I would be truly honored and happy.
The game's 60$ of steam which is way to much to ask
but it's $20 bucks here, or u can gift it to me from any other sites if u want. Thanks
My Steam account- https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199023137539/

2024.05.19 17:41 Present-Process-2898 What do you guys think of this situation? Do you think I was wrong?

Sorry this is long. T and I (18f). S (18mtf).
Backstory:
So I have these two “friends”. Or Had or whatever. I met one back in middle school and the other 1-2 years ago my junior year of high school after I had switched to an alternative school from my regular school. Things were pretty good. I didn’t talk much to the girl I knew since middle school (let’s call her S) because we were in different classes and we havent really spoken since middle school but we were friendly. Whenever we saw each other in the hall or at lunch we would say hi or whatever. The other girl (lets call her T) I talked to the most out of everyone. I was with her pretty much every day during school. I am not the type of person to answer text messages or phone calls or hang out outside of school/work which I guess has always been a problem. For her not for me. Maybe it’s the aquarius in me that wants to be left alone 90% of the time lol. I would hang out with her outside of school sometimes because I wasn’t working much other than a part time job a couple hours after school so I had a little time.
On to the story:
I graduated back in September. T and S got a lot closer after I graduated. I started working full time and didn’t have time or desire to go out whenever anymore. I also really didn’t want to hang out with her either for lots of reasons but mostly because she just was worried about different things. I wanted to graduate as quickly as possible so I can start working full time until I could start EMT school. She was worried about whatever girl she was fighting that week and her ex boyfriends or whatever. And a bunch of other things that annoyed me about her. I didn’t care and I wasn’t worried about those kinds of things anymore. So we didn’t really talk much anymore. She would text me A LOT. I would answer once in a while. It went on like that for months. Last week I had texted her that maybe we could got out to an 18+ club on Friday since she had been wanting to go out. Club’s don’t seem like my type of seem but she likes parties so I figured i’d go and try it out since we just turned 18. S was going to come along as well. Then last Thursday was when things blew up I guess. It was about 11 PM and a show I watch every Thursday at 10 just ended and I was taking a shower to go to sleep because I was tired. Then T and S start blowing me up i’m talking 3-4 phone calls from each of them. I didn’t answer at first because I was going to sleep. Then S texted me talking about she and T got into an argument and T sped off and she heard a crash from her house and thinks she got into a car accident. So I called T. She didn’t answer the first two times. I figured she was talking to an officer or something. The third time she answered and I heard sirens in the background and she told me she got into an accident. I asked if she was okay told her to drop her location and told her I was coming to pick her up and take her home because it was 11:30 at night and the part of town where they stay isn’t exactly the safest. When I got there I didn’t see her and started to call her. She wasn’t answering. I didn’t see any police cars or any crashed cars and I called her maybe 4 times and she wasn’t answering and she had turned off her location and I was just driving around aimlessly and stupidly. So at this point I was thinking this was a set up and I was annoyed and started heading back to my house. Right as I was leaving she finally called me back and said the police cars and tow truck already left and she was waiting for me at their neighborhood park. I told her I just drove past there and I didn’t see her and she said she was walking around looking for me. I was annoyed still and just told her to go back to the park and meet me there. So I finally get to the park and call her. She says she’s sitting on the baby swing and her leg is stuck and wants me to go get her. (I didn’t think this was weird because T is like insanely skinny so she usually fits in baby swings no problem.) I told her no because I was already annoyed and really didn’t want to get out of the car in the part of town we were in and said just pull your leg out and get in the car. She said she can’t and insisted she really was stuck so I got out of the car to help her. As I walked into the park all of a sudden both T and S jumped out the corner at me. Obviously it scared me since it was already at this point midnight and again the part of town we were in. At this point I was mad and just walked away from them got into my car and drove off. They tried to ask me to take S home but I just left. The next morning (the day we were supposed to go to the club) T texted me and asked if we were still going to the club that night. I told her no I didn’t want to go anywhere with them anymore. She said I was “green” (I don’t really know what that means honestly Im assuming it means wrong?? Damn am i getting old? lol) for not coming since it was my idea. I was still mad and didn’t answer. A little later she texted me again and said “alright bet bro im done ✌️ “ again dont know what this meant and honestly didnt care I didn’t answer that text either. S then texted me a while after that and was basically begging me to come with them. I told her no I needed some space from them after last night what you guys did was crazy. Who lies about being in a car accident that’s some crazy shit and wasting my gas and time like that. She went on about how it was just a joke and they didn’t mean to upset me and apologized. I accepted and told her she knows I love her and is just upset right now. She then apologized again and said she hopes I change my mind about that night I liked the message and just left it at that. Throughout the day S kept calling me and I didn’t answer not because of what happened but because I was going pet store to pet store with my sister because we were looking for a puppy. She then texted me again around 6 pm and said she really needed to know if i was coming that night so she could send an uber to my house of not. I told her “no I already told T i’m not coming but you have fun 💙” she replied thank you and that was that. I then got a message from S saying “ T wants to know if you want us to wait for you or meet us there” I was confused because I had JUST told her I wasn’t coming so I just replied to my own message where I said I wasn’t coming with the point fingers emoji at the message. That was the last I talked to them. Im pretty sure T and I aren’t friends anymore which i’m fine with honestly. I am a little sad about S. We haven’t been close since middle school but she’s always been so sweet and adorable but it is what it is I guess.
What do you guys think? Was I wrong?

2024.05.19 17:41 surprisesadness 28 [M4F] EST/Canada/USA/Anywhere - Are you lonely? Then let's be lonely together!

Hello fellow redditors,
I write this today because I’ve been yearning for emotional intimacy between two people. I want to come back home and have a nice conversation with a partner about how our days went. I want someone to laugh with while doing silly things. I want to fall asleep while cuddling with someone as we’re watching a series. Would you be that someone for me? :3
I’ll do a little presentation. I'm a 28 year old Hispanic college student living in the East coast, Canada. I'm 175cm(5'9") and weigh 80kg(175 pounds). I'm fit enough to look fit (even though I having a few pounds during lockdown) but not enough to sprint more than the time needed to catch the bus. I'm decently good looking based on the opinion of many people. Two of them being my mom and grandma and the other one being that old lady that I helped on the metro that called me handsome. I'm more than open to share pics for an unbiased opinion though.
For my hobbies, I like to exercise daily and by exercise I mean the sit-up I do every morning to get out of bed. I like watching shows but not really into anything right now. I used to be into Grimm and Game of Thrones (until last season). I like to watch anime, all time favorite being Steins;Gate. I've been binging Ranking of Kings and it's really good! However, I'm mostly into YouTube right now, watching videos essais about movies and other documentary type stuff. I've also been quite into Apex and Overwatch 2 recently. I've been playing often with a couple of friends on the afternoons. I like competitive multiplayer games as I used to play a whole lot of Smite, but I also like story based single player games like The Witcher 3 and the last God of War game. Recently, I’ve been wanting to get back into Ark too. I'm also in to reading at the moment. I've been trying to finish a fantasy book series I started as a teenager but wasn't completed yet. I'm more of an indoor type (as you might have guessed) but I do like to go outside. Mostly to hang out with friends, but I also like to walk along the river near home to relax and clear my mind. I hope this is enough to give any potential reader who I am as a person. We don't have to share the same hobbies and like the same things but it would be a nice bonus :3
Personality wise, I'm very laidback and rarely stress over stuff. I have quite a dark humor and I am rarely insulted by stuff as I tend not to take things too seriously but I do know when I have to be serious.
I would like to find that special someone that would ideally be around my age (20-35) but I would be open to a wider range if we click. I have no preference but I do feel a certain level of physical attraction is important.
I wish you a wonderful day/night and thank you for your time.

2024.05.19 17:40 lapiss666 My Wishlist, thank in advice!

Hello everyone! (English is not my first language, so please forgive any possible errors.) My wishlist may seem selfish, and I understand that, but unfortunately, I've been facing difficult economic years with my family. I've had this PC since 2016, and I can barely manage to study. My passion is gaming, but I can only afford retro games. (The PC on my wishlist is expensive, but I believe it's an investment because it would save me from having to buy another one in the future.) Thankfully, my family manages to provide for my basic needs (food, clothes), but when it comes to my passions, they had to be set aside to prioritize other things. I genuinely appreciate any help or support you can provide. Thank you very much in advance.

2024.05.19 17:40 North_Ice5555 AIW for leaving my woman because her kids dad is free to enter the house

My girlfriend “Jenn” and I have been together for nearly a year now. Going into the relationship I knew she had 2 children and the father “Eric” was still in their life. A couple months into the relationship we’re having a deep talk and she tells me that in the past Eric was extremely abusive to her and in every manner (physically, mentally even sexually) he threatened her life when she decided to leave and has also physically abused the kids. This made me uncomfortable but Jenn assured me that since the 5 years since they split Eric has quit drinking and hasn’t been abusive to any of them but her kids to this day talk of his anger issues. To paint a better picture, my girlfriend lives in a studio apartment with her 2 kids. I’ve started going over to Jenns house for about 6 months now and I have seen Eric a handful of times. Usually he comes unannounced, opens the door himself (if unlocked) sticks his head into the apartment, scowls at me, has some sort of stupid argument with Jenn (often disrespectful) and then talks with his kids outside. My issue came when one day I come over and he is sitting on Jenns bed (not together) talking to his kids and when Jenn and I talk about it she says when I am not there he will come inside, eat with them, have their arguments and make himself comfortable wherever he can (studio). I contested and Jenn said I was being unfair to her because it is a studio and she would never deny entry to Eric because it’s her kids dad and there is nothing we can do. Jenn is a wonderful girl and although her experiences in life have accustomed her to craziness, I don’t want it inside our home in the future. Am I wrong for leaving my girlfriend because Eric is able to freely enter the home?

2024.05.19 17:40 ThrowRA3027445 I (35M) can’t figure out why my ex (32F) couldn’t develop feelings. Does anyone have experience on this?

I (35M) was seeing this girl (32F) for 4 months, it was both of our first forays into dating since we both became single (me after nearly 4 years and her after 18 months).
It started well and was fun and flirty and we slept together after the 5th date but then a couple weeks later she asked to slow it down, I was completely fine with this as I realised I liked her and wanted to go at a pace she was comfortable with, but the flirting stopped on her side and I thought she was going to end it. We went out for drinks and she was talking about the future and asked me if I wanted to meet her child and told me she really liked me but next day she seemed to change her mind about it all and we carried on slowly. She apologised after one of our dates and said she had a guard up and asked me to be patient with her, I told her I was more than happy to go slow as I hoped it could turn into something but gave her the opportunity to end it if that’s what she wanted, she said she definitely didn’t want to end it and she was into it.
A week later we went away for a night, we had a great time but the vibe was off on the way back and she ended it saying that she doesn’t think we’re compatible and something is missing but that she really hoped the night away would make those feelings come.
I feel she had the guard up due to her last relationship ending like it did (he left her whilst she was pregnant with their child) but I can’t work it out. We are attracted to each other and have very similar goals and values but something was obviously missing for her and I can’t work out what it is!!
TL:DR: 4 month relationship over and I can’t figure out why it didn’t work out

2024.05.19 17:40 Rude-Bend713 Is it possible to speed up sda approval (living on the street)

DONT BE MEAN TO ME PLEASE I AM JUST ASKING A QUESTION
so only recently was my SDA application put it took ages to get the OT and everything to do the stuff for it but its in. Anyway im wondering if there anything i can do to speed it up or that my suppot corrindator can do. I have been homeless sleeping on the streets for over over 2 months straight (minus the week I spent in hospital)
I've been on public housing waitlist for over a year however because I have special requirements for housing due to my disability meaning I need a house with certain features or without certain features it means it is taking a very long time for one to be available. So I am disabled and without support at the moment because i cant get support living on the streets and because my funding is like 10 dollars left and I have been waiting 6 months for my change of circumstance put in a complaint for that and had MP contact them twice but still not done anything yet. Every services turns me away for reasons including
Apparently sda can take like 12 months so am I just meant to try to not die on the streets in this time? Also winter is in like 10 days. I literally just be laying on the ground most of the time. Because im disabled and cannot go far can barely make it to the store to get food and get so lost trying to find it and end up like dropping my money all over the store floor and then cannot find what i am trying to find and then end up dropping my food on floor while trying to check out and its just so hard. I have alot of serve food allergies too which is hard when you cannot cook anything. And I can only shower every few weeks when I go to public beach shower (i went to homeless organizations that are meant to offer showers but got turned away for being a girl even tho there is nothing on their website saying its not allowed). I have not had clean clothes for over 2 months either. I have alot of hard time getting places and carrying stuff and buying stuff because i just drop all my money on floor and cannot really count it.
Not sure how I am going to not die soon?? Also I am not even on medicine anymore because it is too complicated for me to take myself and i lost it. when I had like the hospital social worker and stuff (I came in because i was having medical heart emergency so a ambualnce just took me) they were like oh well you have been homeless for ages now so you can just wait for public housing and continue what youre doing. I go into public housing and they just tell me to wait for SDA and when I have contacted NDis they tell me to just wait for public housing as apparently it will be quicker. Hm
also I have 0 family or friends so.
Im in sydney if reveleant
help appericated.

2024.05.19 17:40 QuietAdvance9603 Brother got 3rd OWI and rest of family doesn't know yet

This is not my main account because friends and family know of that. Also, I'm new to Al-anon. I have never written a post this long in my life and I just kept typing. Thank you to anyone who reads this or responds.
TLDR: Estranged brother got 3rd OWI, will be going to jail, and will have a felony in his record. My parents and other brother don't know about it yet but my husband and I do. I don't know what to do.
My younger brother (31), let's call Alex, and I (33f) used to not get along very well as kids - we have loving parents but they were emotionally immature (still are) and dealing with their own generational trauma. In our early 20s, we worked through a lot and became best friends. Fast forward a few years, he got an owi. He told everyone he was at a party, his drink got spiked and he didn't know what to do so drove home. Something about the story didn't sit well with me but I ignored it at the time.
About a year later, due to several reasons, I offered for him to move into my house - most notably it was supposed to be for about 6 months so he could save money as I wouldn't charge him rent. At first things seemed to be normal. He worked odd hours while I worked 8 to 5 so we didn't see each other a lot. It was clear he was depressed but he didn't want to talk about it and I didn't pry - I suggested therapy, we hung out together more, and I assured him that I was here for him any time, night or day. We started having friction when he kept coming home loudly on weeknights between 2 and 3am, waking me up. At first I asked him to be quieter and when that didn't work, we had a meeting and set some house rules - if coming home on a weeknight, park in the driveway and enter the house through the basement (my house has a walkout basement and he lived in the basement).
Things were okay for a while. Alex decided he wanted to wait another year before going to grad school. Since things were going better, I offered for him to stay with me until he figured out what he wanted to do.
Fast forward a year, Alex had no plans of leaving and I started seeing my now husband, let's call him Ryan. Ryan got along with Alex wonderfully as well as the rest of my family. Around this time, Alex kept forgetting to use the basement entrance. One night when I heard him coming home, I went downstairs (to the first floor) to talk to him. Alex was very, very drunk. I was furious and yelled at him asking him what he was doing driving drunk. I did not handle it well. He mumbled and gave excuses and said he never did this and it was just an odd circumstance. He opened up about some of his traumas and that he was going to get help. I believed him. The next morning he acted totally normal and claimed he didn't remember any of our conversation. This was followed by many more encounters exactly like that.
I went to my parents with my concerns about Alex. Their response was very much that I was exaggerating that Alex was coming home drunk or had any problem related to alcohol. They basically said that he was an adult and could make his own decisions. I went to my older brother who basically had the same response butadded he'd reach out to Alex and check in on him.
One night, I went out with Ryan to a bar, started getting a migraine and went home early. Ryan ended up coming back to my house several hours later. He woke me up and said he had run into Alex who was incredibly drunk. I texted Alex to see if he needed me to get him an Uber or come pick him up. Immediately he texted back as saying one of his friends who was sober was about to drive him back to the house and crash in the basement for the night. About an hour later I got a phone call from Alex. He was very upset and very drunk as he explained he got a flat tire and didn't know what to do. When I get there, there is no 'friend' and the flat tire wasn't a flat tire, the tire was sideways (parallel to the ground) on the rim. I put him into my car and drove him straight to my parents house while he babbled about how he hit a curb before changing the story to say it was his friend who hit the curb then Alex called an Uber for the friend so said friend wouldn't have to wait around while the car got sorted. We got to my parents, I explained the situation and that very clearly their son is drunk, drove drunk again, and that they can handle him. Dad and I sort out the car and he drove it back to his house. The next morning, I get a call from my parents explaining that Alex wasn't drunk last night but was dealing with shock from hitting the curb. In not my best move, I erupted which resulted in me going low contact with my parents.
Things continued going downhill between Alex and myself. I started to avoid my house and spent most of my non working hours at Ryan's house. It got to the point that we only interacted when the house was trashed with garbage and moldy dishes (he stopped cleaning up after himself) or I tried to talk to him about his drinking which resulted in empty promises.
At this point, Alex gets another OWI. I tell him he needs to move out, that I can't enable his behavior and that he needs help and it's not something I can fix or change, that he has to be the one who wants to change. I tell him I would do anything for him and I love him but until he is ready to make changes I can't there for him. He moved out.
Many things happen in the next two years, most notably I almost died (surgery and several extended hospital stays) and I got married to Ryan (quick courthouse ceremony). Not a word from Alex throughout all this time. Ryan and I decided to have a wedding reception. My parents brought up inviting Alex to our reception - Ryan and I talk about it and decided Alex could attend if (1) He doesn't drink any alcohol (2) he takes accountability for his actions. We give Alex 8 months to do (2). He didn't. My parents tried to manipulate the situation once the time expired (a couple weeks before the reception) but Ryan and I stood very firm on our boundaries. Two days before the reception I received awful texts from Alex about how I'm the worst, how could I do this to Mom and Dad, and if I cared about our family at all, we would allow him to come. Again, we held our boundaries which caused a lot of friction with my parents and older brother but it was absolutely the best decision for me.
Once again fast forward months to 2 days ago. I've had no contact with Alex. My mother and I were hanging out and she drops a bunch of information about Alex - he is apparently doing even better with promotions at work, seeing a therapist, and is in a happy relationship. I wanted to believe this with every fiber of my being. I don't exactly know why but I had a strong feeling which led me to looked up Alex on my state's online court system (public court document system, if you search by first and last name, any legal proceeding a person is/was involved with shows up). And that's how I found out he got a third OWI (and a driving with a suspended license) in April followed by a search warrant that was executed at his apartment a couple weeks after that. His court date is this coming week. For the third offense, he will be going to jail for at least 30 days and lose his license for years. The 3rd offense is a felony. My parents and older brother do not know what is going on, it's very clear based on how they're acting and the future plans they've been making.
I am profoundly sad. My husband and I have discussed it and we think we are not going to say anything to anyone. The truth is going to come out but after the last several years, I don't think it should come from. I don't know what to do. I feel guilty that I didn't do enough and that I'm at fault.

2024.05.19 17:40 thegamemandan1 Shameful neighbors

I recently found out that my next-door neighbor, the older woman who has two grown kids in their late 20s had them when she was 29 years old and the boy was 13 years old old at a time. She was engaging in sexual encounters with a minor for several years that she had two kids by him. Presently they are no longer together. He has his own family with another woman and she’s living with her older son who is a criminal and has a record, her Overweight, disabled boyfriend and a guy that just lives there and plays Bob the builder all day long and doesn’t have a real job. They’ve caused nothing but problems like throwing rocks at my dog among the things. They recently put a security camera facing my backyard to make matters worse.
My reasoning for this post is a couple of things. If these guys try to jump me say two or three on one do I have my right to use my firearm to protect me in self-defense? These guys are almost always together and are cowards when they’re alone. Sometimes I think they are planning to jump me one day. I live in Illinois.
The other reason for this post is that I have a 13-year-old son and the fact that she was a child molester, child rapist whatever you want to call it makes it feel a bit uneasy living next-door to her. Can I contact authorities or somebody to have her put on a sex offender registry website if that’s at all possible? Also is there statue limitations to this as this happened about 27 years ago where she can get in trouble? She’s currently 57 years old and the guy is 42 years old. I doubt he will press charges. But I assume he has to be the one to press charges all these years later which I doubt he will. But the fact that she got away with this is sickening and I think some sort of consequences should be faced.

2024.05.19 17:40 GroundbreakingTeam94 I need advice on my family situation.

Who's to blame: Overbearing family, or college student?
I’m a 19-year-old black guy, and I’ve been grappling with some serious family issues concerning my mother and grandparents. It's a lot to unpack, so buckle up:
Growing up, it was just my mother and I, as my dad was in and out of the picture due to my parents' divorce. My grandparents played a significant role too, doting on me since I was an only child, and my mother was also the sole child in her family. Given our circumstances, my mother tended to be excessively protective, perhaps stemming from my early years spent in and out of hospitals due to medical concerns. Being the center of attention came with the territory, I suppose.
At 17, I began experimenting with substances like nicotine, weed, and alcohol with my best friend, a common scenario among kids my age. I’d sneak around, hiding these escapades from my mother. Freshman year in college rolled around, and so did more experimentation. Unfortunately, someone from my friend circle spilled the beans about my college shenanigans to my mother and their parents, leading to increased suffocation when I returned home. I got banned from my best friend's house for a period of time because of it. Additionally, my mother caught me high once, further worsening the situation. To me, it all felt blown out of proportion, considering it was typical teen/young adult behavior from the peers I was around.
Continuing my transition into college life, my mother never really provided a safe space for open communication. It felt like she was always breathing down my neck, fostering an environment of secrecy. As they say, strict parents breed sneaky kids. Moreover, my family’s insistence on regular church attendance felt stifling.
As I matured, my mother's grip seemed to tighten, suffocating any semblance of space I needed. More often than not, we clashed, and she persistently pushed for a closer bond. With that made coming home for breaks a struggle, and enjoyment going back to school after the breaks were over.
By sophomore year, I found myself delving into my studies as needed, hookup culture, a little bit of partying, piercings, more drugs, and then dating. The girl I was seeing didn’t attend my college but lived nearby. We clicked on a dating site and in real life, and I’d occasionally visit her place once we got comfortable with the idea. Her parents didn't know at first but didn't really care once they found out. In fact, once they met me, they came to like me because of my character and career plans. Though my mother and grandmother reacted with disdain at her and my actions, criticizing her career choice in cosmetology, her White ethnicity, and her action to bring me to her parent's house while they weren't there. With those factors, they accused her of being promiscuous, which is nowhere near the case.
Academically, I’m pursuing an engineering degree, managing to maintain my scholarships despite knowing I could do better. Fast forward to yesterday: I was discussing my grades with my grandmother, with my mother present. Which felt like a horrible mistake as my mother brought up my choices and who I was sleeping with, which snowballed into my mother prying the truth out of me in front of my grandmother. It was so bad my mother wanted to answer my grandmother's questions for me, with an irritated smile on her face, but luckily my grandmother shut her down and waited for my honest responses, which I for the most part gave.
During the conversation about the girl, my grandmother and mother made a joke about me being on a leash like my dog, which, in hindsight, felt more like mockery than humor. Moreover, my grandmother's ominous warning about potential legal consequences if I continued to visit her house against my family's wishes was unsettling. She claimed to have connections to the local police department near my school, which added an extra layer of fear and coercion. With that said my grandmother felt that I'd be better off locked up than be at the girl's house because of unreasonable safety reasons.
Additionally, my mother and grandma resorted to comparing me unfavorably to my cousin, who dropped out of college and got a girl pregnant. This comparison only served to exacerbate tensions and feelings of inadequacy.
Reflecting on everything, I made the tough call to end my relationship to appease my family. They judged her based on superficial criteria, and I couldn’t bear to subject her to their scrutiny any longer, so we broke up.
My relationship with my dad isn’t without its tensions, but he’s the one who speaks candidly, even if his words aren’t sugar-coated. After recent events, tensions with my mother have escalated. I yearn for her to loosen her grip, to allow our relationship to evolve naturally rather than being forced. I could say the same thing about my grandfather as well, but he only stays involved in my academic life.
My friends and my now ex agree – my family’s stance on my relationship and actions was wild. So, I'd like to know, am I 100% at fault or does my family have a part to play? Please help me figure this out. There's still a little bit of tension between me and my mother.

2024.05.19 17:40 Longjumping_Tap_2429 Sexual neglect

Hi guys, just wondering if I’m wrong or right here. I understand this may come across quite misogynistic but need some opinions.
Me 26m and partner 25f
My partner has it pretty sweet, we have a 3 year old child that goes to Nan’s twice a week so she can have a break, to make her life easier I pay for a cleaner so she literally doesn’t need to do any cleaning at all she can’t cook so I do every night (this can be a little difficult because I work 16 hour days regularly) always in my home office so around 5pm I’ll do the dinner then go back to work, any free time I get I spend with my child, I get up to him everyday so I can see him in the morning and spend an hour or so with him. She wanted a dog….we got one she didn’t want to walk it so I pay for a dog walker, all our clothes our done by a laundrette not her, we go on at least 2 holidays a year, live in a £1m house, rolls Royce on drive etc, her life is literally unreal I pay for it to be so easy and simple she has lunch out everyday most women’s dream, I expect two things from her…..I don’t care that she doesn’t want to cook or clean etc that doesn’t bother me I expect loads of love from her, and sorry to be crude but I expect her to be sucking whenever I want, she used to do it at the click of fingers she knew it was important to me and I would give her whatever she wanted if she was like that, 8 years in we are majorly successful but she has no care for my sexual needs, she actually think she has it difficult. Am I wrong for thinking about ending it ? It’s not necessarily the act of not doing it that makes me want to finish her it’s the fact she won’t do the one and only thing I ask her to do. Most partners expect their partners to have the house spotless and dinner on the table etc,
Am I wrong ?
Tldr - I’ve given my girlfriend a perfect life now she doesn’t suck

Exclusive: How a Nigerian king who Harry hailed as one of his 'new in-laws' is a conman twice deported from America, with a lengthy criminal record and a distinctly murky past…
Excerpts from the article:
Taking the microphone, Prince Harry gestured towards the Nigerian royals ranged before him, playfully calling them his 'in-laws'.
It brought laughter from his audience. 'I'll skip the protocol because at this point we're all family,' the duke added, to more guffaws.
On reflection, though, maybe it wasn't such a big joke after all.
The House of Windsor may have cut the Sussexes adrift but in Lagos last Sunday wealthy rulers bearing gifts and titles were effectively competing to claim Meghan for their own royal families.

The Mail on Sunday reveals today that one of the kings is a convicted fraudster who was twice kicked out of the United States.
The venue for what one guest described as Meghan's 'unofficial crowning' was a flashy fifth floor restaurant in the coastal mega-city's latest boutique hotel. Hardly the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace but there was a red carpet, fanfare trumpets –and no shortage of ceremony.

Not to be outdone, meanwhile, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, the 56-year-old Oluwo of Iwoland in Western Nigeria, then took centre stage.
Microphone in hand, he turned to Meghan – who was walked down the aisle on her wedding day by King Charles – and said: 'Thank God you are one of us.'
Four years ago, a letter from a lawyer representing the Association of Iwoland Indigenes in Diaspora (AIID) accused him of 'conducting himself in manners which are antithetical to that of a monarch in any clime and very unbecoming of a Yoruba Oba'.
It said he assaulted another monarch Dhikrulahi Akinropo of Ogbagba during a 'peace meeting' to settle a land dispute. But Akanbi said that Akinropo had interrupted his speech and tried to attack him with his golden staff of office.
'He started calling me unprintable names, pointing his staff of office at me while attempting to stick the staff into my eyes,' said Akanbi. 'I heavily rejected it with a force he could not withstand.'
Much worse was to come from others, though, including his ex-wife Chanel Chin, the daughter of a Jamaican reggae star, who has called him a 'devil' and publicly accused him of sexual assault.
The letter from the AIID to a state governor accuses Akanbi of shamefully 'misrepresenting the interests of Iwoland' and causing so many 'controversies' that it is hard to 'imagine he ascended the throne'. It says: 'Our clients have several reported cases of intimidation, harassments and acts of subjecting the poor indigenes of Iwoland to all sort of threats.'

2024.05.19 17:39 villainfvcker (after making stuff up in my head for an hour) wow.. everyone is out here thinking what a loser and stupid bum i am. i just have to become depressed and withdrawn over this for the next 5 days (im so sorry for the big rant)

i hate get togethers with my insanely more successful cousins. i just had the WORST day yesterday, and i couldn’t stop thinking about every single thing i did that was wrong and not correct in a very obvious social situation.
like, after the initial hi and hellos, i fell silent as my mom and my younger sister immediately started laughing and joking around with them. my cousins are also in their early 20s like me, but theyre very successful with great jobs and they travel all over the world. i’ve known them my entire life but our visits are rare so each time i fumble over how much they’ve changed, how many stories they have and how affluent they can make themselves be just by the way they act. anything i say or add in on the conversation just falls flat because it sounds so unfunny and lame. i am just a failed artist who is just working at a bookstore now, there’s not much to talk about there.
i was so awkward, every time i tried to ask them something new about their life or plans i got all my words tangled and stuttered so i just paused and pretended to laugh it away as they continued being a lot more interested in my younger sister’s conversations.
my aunt made a lot of food so she called everyone inside to get some. idk anyone else but i hate getting food around so many people i’m shy around. everyone was easily grabbing plates and forks and loading up on different platters but i just froze and stood outside on the deck, pretending to scroll through my phone. i never know how to act normal when getting food—i feel like i will look greedy and stupid as i awkwardly shuffle around spooning food on my plate and look for somewhere to eat it. so i just stood on the deck until i heard my mom be like “where’s (my name)” and she saw me outside and sighed really loud. she handed me a plate and fork and told me not to be shy right now. i could tell she was so annoyed by my inability to be normal and just get food on my own like a grown person, and to my embarrassment at this point i had TEARS POOLING IN MY EYES. oh my god i was scared shitless that they would fall as i was trying to quickly spoon pasta onto my plate. WHY WAS I ON THE VERGE OF CRYING OH MY GOD??? my uncle was across from me and he was like “oh no chicken?” and i stuttered out something about being a vegetarian and everyone nearby chuckled and i dont even know if the tears dropped or not but i just immediately stepped out onto the deck again.
at this point all my cousins and my sister had their chairs in a circle as they conversed really loudly and laughing as they ate. one of my cousins waved me over to bring my chair to the circle, but there was literally no space for mine so i just awkwardly placed it a few feet away from the circle and ate in silence as they continued their talk. i was silent the entire time, nobody asked me anything about myself or my life, just politely asked if i wanted more food or drinks to which i obviously said no to even though i was still starving from only scooping like two scoops of pasta on my plate. my sister who is years younger than me was so much better at this. she talked and laughed and made them all collapse with laughter.
my mind always goes blank whenever i want to say something funny or cool around other people. i get so, so shy. i start to have this stupid waver in my voice and i always look like i have tears in my eyes. my words never ever come out in the right order.
one of my aunt’s friend was there and she was like oh “why does (my name) not talk much she’s just sitting there?” and my mom told her that i’ve always been a quiet and shy person and that i like to be by myself. obviously my mom is not at fault here but in my head i was like no!!! no i do not like to be by myself please talk to me everybody just start the conversation with me first and ask follow up questions so i can keep continuing it please talk to me!!!! please i can be interesting and funny too just bring me into the conversation more please!!!
oh i am just so fucking bad at this i will keep looping everything i did wrong for the next week.

2024.05.19 17:39 xofaira AITAH for snooping through my boyfriend’s phone and confronting him about what i found?

i went through my boyfriends 24 M phone and i 21 F don’t know how to handle it. what do i do?
My boyfriend 24 M and I 21 F have been on and off for about 6 years, there was a time in our relationship where we were broken up for (what we thought) was good and both had separate relationships. the problem i’m having is i know his ex girlfriend personally and never have been her biggest fan, and this has caused issues in our relationship. i really struggle because the first time we dated it was very pure and innocent and now i feel it’s tainted. last night i was on his phone looking something up on google because mine was dead, and then i got too curious. i started looking in his photos and eventually ventured down to his hidden album. i honestly really didn’t think i was gonna see anything like i saw i was just curious if he actually deleted all of the spicy photos i had sent him over the years. NOPE i found him and his ex girlfriend’s sex tape, that he had kept. now, i am not one of those cool, calm and collected girls (although i wish i was). i admittedly can have a temper and have a lot of trouble processing things like this…. so i woke him up at 1 am, and freaked out about it. his response was that he was changing his phone password, will never trust me again and that he will be leaving in the morning. he did just that, when he got up this morning i asked him if he would just say a word to me. that we didn’t have to talk about the situation right now but i wanted some grasp of where his head was at. he didn’t and he left. i understand that i breached his trust, but why would he even keep something like that especially just the video?? im assuming in their time together there were explicit photos shared, but out of everything he kept the video. he told me he “forgot” but is that really true considering there are recent photos of ME in there too? i told him last night that i need reassurance, and comfort from him. i need to understand why. he gave me the opposite. i am beyond hurt and confused, should i wait to see if he has anything to say and if we can come to a resolution or do i walk away? AITAH for snooping through his phone?

2024.05.19 17:39 Certain_Panda_1625 Dumped summer before 1L

Throwaway account and haven’t really used much of Reddit before. Sorry if this isn’t the best place to post this but just need to vent and wanted to see if anyone had any experience in a similar situation. So this sucks, my girlfriend of multiple years dumped me. She says it’s mostly because of the distance that would have been between us while I’m in law school but who really knows. This one hurts more than any before because I really saw a future with her and I felt like we were so perfect together. Trying to force myself to do no contact but that’s not going well in the slightest. Anyway, I’m going into a summer that I thought I would spend with her, but now I have barely anything to do before law school (recently quit my job to relax for the summer).
I’m scared that these feelings won’t pass by the time law school begins in August and I don’t want it to ruin what should be an exciting time in my life. Really though, I’m even more scared because I feel like now I missed my chance to find a relationship with how hard/time-consuming school and work is ultimately going to be, and having a significant other and eventually a family is something that is incredibly important to me.
Sorry for the rambling, I’m just sad right now and really just looking for advice from anyone that has gone through something similar or about what dating as a law student is like. I don’t want to just hop from relationship to relationship but I do hope to find someone in law school at some point.
And a huge congrats to everyone graduating!

2024.05.19 17:39 aevxum navel piercings and tubby tummies?

so i really want a navel piercing and i've wanted one for years; i had it all planned out (i was 18), and then i got pregnant so no more flat tummy for me lmao. anyways obviously i pictured flat tummy & pretty piercing, but i'm worried that won't be the case now. i'm not huge, but my tummy is there and the skin is really wrinkled from where the skin stretched when i was pregnant. also i wear high waisted shorts/trousers now & i don't want that to interfere with it? any advice/help? x

2024.05.19 17:39 lilbeebigworld How to cope with two years away from family/friends?

Hi everyone! I have less than two weeks left before staging and then departure. As many of you have served or are in the process I’m sure you relate to having been preparing for months and researching your host country daily. I’ve been so excited about the prospect of serving for so long… and suddenly with days to spare the sadness and fear just hit me like a truck.
I’d definitely appreciate any advice or words of wisdom! My mom and my sister are my best friends and seeing how hard this is on them is truly devastating, despite that they’re so supportive of my decision to serve. I’m graduating in a couple of days and moving across the world so soon after makes all of the goodbyes with my friends so much sadder. Don’t get me wrong, I know PC is an incredible opportunity and I really think it’s the right move, but it’s like now that it’s so close, all of a sudden I am understanding the loss of two years away from my loved ones. I know that I’ll likely gain more than I’m giving up, but it sure as hell feels like I’m giving up a whole lot.
