A transmission is a machine in a power transmission system, which provides controlled application of the power. Often the term transmission refers simply to the gearbox that uses gears and gear trains to provide speed and torque conversions from a rotating power source to another device.

2024.05.28 03:09 HatProfessional147 2011 Toyota Sienna AWD Transmission.

The vehicle is a 2011 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD 6 speed automatic with the 3.5L engine.
Recently the transmission started acting up, sporadically shifting as if it doesn't know what gear to be in. And when it shifts, it shifts hard. I checked the codes and I only have one saved on the computer: P2808 Solenoid G stuck on/off.
I took it to our Toyota Dealership and they stated there was metal in the fluid and that the whole trans would need to be replaced, a $7000 expense.
My question for the community: can this transmission be rebuilt? Is it possible to only replace the bad solenoid and do a fluid flush?
I asked a couple other local transmission shops and they all act as if it's some obscure transmission and can't give me any details on if a rebuild is possible.

2024.05.28 01:48 Training-Ad7524 Transmission swap issues

Transmission swap issues
Hey guys! I’m new to the Mustang community and I just recently purchased a 2008 V6 Mustang that had its original automatic transmission swapped to a manual before a bought it.
The guy who sold it to me told me that it was swapped for the original 5-speed that Ford sold this car in. So is it a T5?
The car works perfectly fine, but I have some minor issues due to the swap. My reverse lights don’t work as well as the speedometer is off by like 20. I also have a check engine light due to the automatic transmission sensor not being registered.
I love this car and I’m fully prepared to learn and work on it myself. I was just wondering if someone could please point me in the right direction as it will most likely save me weeks of doing the research on my own.
Thank you so so much! Hope y’all are having a great day!

2024.05.28 01:36 AdSevere3393 Should I trade my Civic 11 for the Type R FK8?

In March 2023 I made my dream come true and bought a new Civic hatchback Hybrid (EU). I love my car and it looks stunning. I also tried to add some spice to it (very hard in EU): Front defuser, black roof, lowered suspension, ducktail lip spoiler, black accents, some interior upgrades. Love the car. But.... It's kinda boring to drive...
Don't get me wrong, nice power, great handling and all... but it's an automatic... I knew I had to get used to it, and I kinda did.. but I miss the Manuel transmission.. I really do.. and don't get me started on that fake engine sound..
That's the reason I'm playing with the idea to sell my Civic 11 and buy the fk8 CTR. It has almost all the features of the fl5 and still is available at a decent price here in EU (about 35k Euros with around 50k km on the dash). Also heard that the FL5 CTR would be the last of it's kind, resulting in the (pure) combustion CTRs raising in value. So maybe good resale value on the FK8 CTR compared to my FL5 Hybrid down the line (if I intend to sell in the future)?
Really need your advice on this. Is this a stupid idea? Thank you in advance!

2024.05.28 01:30 Financial-Traffic-15 2006 VW POLO 1.4 Petrol (9NZ) AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ISSUES.

Apologies for the long text. I just want to explain my issue clearly.
I am having transmission issues with my 2006 vw polo 1.4 (9NZ). Can anyone please help?
My wife had been driving it with low ATF without knowing and one morning the car could not move forward or reverse in any gears. We parked the car for a little over 8 months and now i just started trying to fix the issue. Here's what i have done and the issues that i'm still having:
1.Drained the old ATF which was just 1 quarts, cleaned the filter and checked for signs of debris on the filter and sump but none detected. Added 4 quarts(4L) new ATF.
  1. Car now moves forward in all other gears except R(reverse gear). It moves forward even when in N(Neutral) & sometimes when i engage the P(Park) gear. When i engage Reverse gear, the engine only revs but no movement or even any signs it wants to move.
  2. Diagnosing before steps 1 & 2 above gave me 01166 & P1570 fault codes.Cleared the codes and after steps 1 & 2 above i got no fault codes on the transmission and now car behaves as described in 2 above.
Has anyone faced the same issues or can help?. Thanks.

2024.05.28 01:11 Fanaticism3287 So my trans started making this noise in my titanium awd 2013 fusion

So my trans started making this noise in my titanium awd 2013 fusion
Ford fusion awd 2.0L titanium 2013 92,000 miles on the dash Car is in impeccable condition, garage kept. Paid 11,300 half cash/half trade in with my VW Jetta I have bad credit and I can’t afford a loan with a 18 % apr, so if I can’t buy a car with cash or a trade in, I don’t buy it.
So I brought the car to the dealership with two issues, bought this car a week ago.
I bought this car in the certified pre owned section of the used car lot at the dealership and bought it with two year extended warranty. My test drive, I didn’t drive over 40 and I had the A/C on because that had the car out in the sun and inside the car was 110 degrees. So I didn’t hear the bad bearings until I got on the highway and started driving between 60-80 mph. I called the dealership and said hey this car sounds like the wheel bearings are going out. The stupid parts manager first didn’t believe me the hub bearings were going out. Because he said the salesman I bought it from took the car for a ride when it was traded in and “nothing was wrong with it, I’m just confused about a noise” So I insisted on bringing it in, but I’m only off on Fridays so I had to wait till Friday, and I bought the car on a Saturday. (I live an hour away from the dealership because I live in a rural area) and I’m only available on Fridays because I work 10.7 hour shifts at ford assembly plant Monday-Thursday. So I drive up there Friday and we get in the car and he starts driving it and I’m like yeah you hear that, he continues to act stupid and play dumb, and then I tell him I’ve been working at the ford assembly plant for 9 years and I put these cars together, I work in sub frame, I’ve done the wheel hub assembly job on the line, I am actually a general and I know every job in my entire department, I know when I hear a bad wheel bearing. He then stops acting stupid, and says oh yeah I hear it now, and we take it back to the dealership and he puts it on the lift and I go wait inside, he comes back in and he said man both those wheel bearings on the back are out. Then the sales person that sold it to me, says wha! wha! it wasn’t making any noises when I drove it. (I’m thinking to myself like yeah right bro, you had the air conditioning on full blast and didn’t get over 40 mph when you test drove it. So the parts were ordered and it’s getting worked on this Friday when I’m off.
FURTHERMORE, after the test drive for the wheel bearings, I tell him about the trans noise, and I said it’s kinda hard to hear because it only happens when your driving at higher speeds and the sound happens pretty fast. So I managed to get audio and video of the spot it’s coming from and what it sounds like. So I show him the video and he immediately dismisses it, and says I don’t hear anything, you mean that horn sound? Sounds like someone honking, I’m like, no you can hear it plain as day, and the salesman chimed in for a second and said yeah I can hear it. So we take another ride, and this parts manager guy acts like someone is squirting lemon juice in his eyes just to go on another ride to hear the problems this car has that I just purchased, and purchased an extended warranty for reasons just like this. He then starts saying “my transmission tech just got back from school and they don’t have time to do another transmission, but if there’s something wrong we will look at it” I said that’s not my problem, I have a warranty for this vehicle and if something is wrong it will get fixed. So I have posted the video with the noise coming from under the automatic shift knob area, it sounds like something’s rubbing together, or the gears are grinding. Has anyone heard this noise coming from trans under or near the automatic shift knob.

2024.05.27 22:32 albokemy NB Miata RPMs fluctuate while idling — ideas on what’s going on?

https://reddit.com/link/1d21ixe/video/t3ccy9gf213d1/player
RECENTLY: I have a 2001 Miata, automatic transmission, 150K miles. A little while ago, when I first turned on the car for the day, after a moment of sitting in idle the RPMs would start to fluctuate as in the video (I was not touching the gas pedal). This happened pretty much everymorning. As soon as I put it in gear, it settled and did not repeat while driving typically with the automatic transmission in Drive. When I switched it back to neutral with the engine warm (say at a light), it’s happened but very rarely and less intensely.
Took it to the shop and they tried to replicate it. The codes did not show anything. They did the following:
When I got the car back, it wasn’t doing it…until it was again a few weeks later. Not as frequently as before, but on one or two startups. And the RPMs seem to want to dip from time to time when stopped at a red light. Not too far, but just a little hesitant dip that I'm sensitive to because of the following:
SOME HISTORY: A couple months before this, the car’s Check Engine light came on toward the end of a commute. I parked, had to go to work. And when driving home, while idling at a red light, the RPMs sputtered and dipped…until the car completely shut off. Towed it to the shop and here’s what they did:
After that, the car was running great, until the fluctuating RPMs which started happening a couple months later.
(I should say, the car has now been in storage for a couple months -- battery disconnected, full fuel with stabilizer. I'm about to go pick it up. Wanted to preemptively check if there are any ideas on what has been going on before I take it to the shop again any way for a general check up after 2 months of storage.)

2024.05.27 22:04 Pdelag 1997 Ranger Speed Sensor

1997 Ranger Speed Sensor
My 1997 Ranger XLT 4.0 V6 automatic is having trouble shifting and the speedometer doesn’t work, so I’m assuming it’s a sensor problem. I recently replaced the sensor near the rear of the transmission and nothing changed. (Photo is a google photo of the same part I replaced.) I’ve been doing a lot of YouTube watching and forum reading, and it’s looking like there’s another sensor somewhere on the trans? I also assume it could be an electrical issue somewhere, but I’m not really sure.
The truck isn’t with me physically at the moment, or I would obviously go check it out before posting here. A buddy and I are towing it to a local shop this week because there’s a hole in a fuel line that’s pouring out gas. Figured I would get this knocked out first so I could actually drive it 5 minutes home when it’s fixed.
Hopefully this made sense, trying to learn here as a beginner lol.

Dynamic Suspension Matra Resto
After Resto
Before resto
I restored this car for a customer in South Afrika several years ago. The Dynamic Suspension car was a 1/8 scale US remote controlled car whcih came with different bodysets. One of it the Matra MS11, a 12-cylincer Engine driven French Formula race car.
The chassis came with rectangular side extensions, so that full body models could be fitted. The specialty of this chassis is the very realistic suspension with double wishbone arms front and rear, and a automatic variable transmission, which increases the gear ration with the speed of the car.
I used an old Fibreglass body of this model. The car was sold form German company Robbe in Germany. It ws called Robbe D1 with "D" indicating its origins (Dynamic).
I added a lot of details, exhaust tubes handbend from soft brass tubes, engine air intakes self made on my lathe, a seat made from foam, a screed from lexan, and self made stickers, and finally a nice airbrush paint job.
Hope you like it. I will post some of my projects the next days....

2024.05.27 19:47 Short-Direction-7520 Z51 or GS? Looking at a C6

Hey Guys,
I'm looking at possibly buying a 2008-2013 C6 Corvette. And had some questions.
Do the manual transmission cars have any hill assist features or holding? Auto rev matching? Anything to help the driver?
Do the 08-10 models have the buttons for track up and down and volume on the steering wheel? And do these buttons work with a aftermarket headunit too?
How's operating the clutch for a shorter person, and a potenial first time manual drivelearner? Is the automatic 6 speed a big let down vs the manual?
Is there really no steering feel, I had an e46 325, and a G37x before and the heavy hydraulic steering was great for feedback.
How is the AC performance? Especially in the summers when it reaches (35C/95F+ with humidity)
Does pulling the fuse (#10 MAN TRAN in the passenger side fuse box under the hood) for the 1-4 lockout make a light appear on the dash?
Is the Z51 suspension vs base really stiff for daily driving? Would the Grand Sport handle alot better than a Z51? I'm trying to debate if it's worth the extra 10-14k CAD
What problems did you look out for when you were shopping for your C6? From browsing the subreddit, forums, and YouTube videos I know about these so far:
Harmonic Balancer (Wobble)
Gas Smell/Top of Tank Cracks (Tank must be full, half a tank hides smell)
Rear Main Seal Cover Leak
Torque Tube(Rattling noise underneath idle or moving)
Weather stripping around the windshield ($500-$750+)
Check Shift Lever - make sure it goes in and out of Park (Solenoids for Automatic)
Listen for chirps from Alternator
Is there a common thing to look for if a car has been boosted?
