I passed high school with only Algebra (required for graduation) and to be honest I had to cheat during the tests to past. Ok, I am in the education area, for a while it was teens and adults
Now im retraining to teach kindergarten kids
And I hear often in the medias or social platforms on how things like finances, mental health etc. should be taught in school, as in middle or high school (grades 6-12/13)
And while I do 100% agree with this ideology that these skills are important, I just don‘t see it happening in regular schools and therefore I don‘t think this should be attempted as it is just a waste of time
Because, lets say taxes and finances are taught in regular schools. Its no easy topic, this would eat up so much classtime for other topics. And I don‘t think, the way schools are run now, that they are ready/built for that
Instead, I believe there should be an extra school building/type called something about life skills that includes these many vital topics
I think this kinda school should be open for all above like 15 years old maybe? Not sure on the exact min. Age yet but defintely no max age limit
And I think regular schools should make time for this. So what I mean is students should actually have time after school to attend this different kind of school. Imo its already insane how much homework some students get where they don’t even have time to live life, but thats a different topic
Also, because putting this in regular schools opens them up to a ton of critical opinions, especially when touchy subjects like mental health are brought into play, because there are many different ways at going about it. And sure by making learning these topics be a choice, some may not go, those would also probably not listen in regular schools.
And Unlike subjects like math where the amount of correct answers/thinking styles is limited, for these touchy subjects not everyone will be ok with just learning how to manage it using one or two methods
I also don‘t see many students actually being enthusiastic about these topics, even if its important because the stress of grades will tank it all
But if a separate entity where to offer these lessons (free of charge like regular school) with no tests just optional work for input from teachers, it creates a more positive atmosphere where people are willingly going there and they don‘t have to stress about tests and grades. They can fully focus on just learning for their own benefit. Because thats what so important about these skills, students should want to learn this and not be forced into a cold environment.
I also believe this is more feasible to try, cause its easier to just create a new school type system for these subjects, rather than force regular schools to conform to these new subjects
Btw by regular schools I mean grades pre-k to 12 or 13th grade, I don‘t mean college/Uni because I think these skills should be taught as soon as students are the mental development stage where they can understand these topics and when it becomes relevant, which is younger than college age
And for me life skills are finances, mental health, home ed (so like cooking,repairing etc), sex ed (the more in depth kind, so not just basic sexual education where ppl learn where babies come from). I do know regular schools in some countries have managed to implement some of these subjects, but due to the stress of also having to teach math, science etc. not much funding or time is given for these topics. And I don‘t think sex ed for instance should be removed from regular schools (if they have it), I just think there should be the opportunity to delve into it more
Another reason why I stand by this is bc some do argue that family/friends or even the internet should teach this. The problem is, we tend to ( not always) but tend to surround ourselves with like minded people, and the beauty abt schools, especially public city schools, is you are in a room with diverse people, you are confronted with different thought patterns and beliefs. And also, parents can only teach what they know which usually comes from their own childhood. I just saw a sad documentary abt a woman with over 25k euros in debt in Germany bc in her childhood debt was a normal thing, and her mother knew nothing about finances so she couldnt teach her kid that. And its just a pattern that, while breakable, is much harder. And researching anything alone on the internet is so hard ad tiresome. Its so easy to be lied to misinformed, and while schools can‘t 100% avoid this, they do provide a room for debate and discussions (sensible schools ofc).
I do hope my ideas are understandable, and I like forward to hearing other viewpoints or ideas or even clear counter arguments :)
Also btw, while I do live in Germany now, I grew up in the US (ny) so I subconsciously probably only brought up these kinda school systems, feel free to bring up other ones^{^}

So I got a few rentals, nothing to brag about, they're paid off, the mailbox money is nice, but I'd like to get more. Speaking with a few mortgage guys, they require 20% down, so that's 60K on $300K 3/2 SFH here in Orlando. At $2K per month in rental income, the math just doesn't work after tax, hoa, PITI, etc, etc.
That's all well and good, however I'm starting to think that all these YT's saying they own 100 homes are full of crap. I'm really good with numbers, I'm doing really well, but there's no way these guys are raking in the equity they say they are unless they're buying homes for $100K and renting them out for $1000-1200K per month. I apologize in advance for the wall of text. just finished my freshman year of college at Michigan State as a kinesiology major and I’m not sure if I want to go back. I really hate school and this year was especially trying because I felt like a lot of my classes were worthless. The thought of struggling through another math or biology class is not fun. I’ve done some research and found out that most of the decent jobs I could get with a college degree are engineering, medical, or math degrees and frankly I don’t have that in me. I’m considering staying in school and becoming turning to teaching as that seems fairly easy to get hired out of college. I’m also considering dropping out and possibly learning a trade or becoming a fireman. I’ve heard tech is also a good career path, but it’s something I have no familiarity ilarity with. All my experience has been in either lawn work or on golf courses. The biggest things to me is picking a career in something that I can make a livable wage at fairly quickly and have free time during the nights, as I have other ambitions I would also need time to work on. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

If I were to rate my first year here I would say like a 7/10 mostly enjoyable. There were some stressful moments but not too bad. I want to have a good undergrad experience, aim for top CS grad schools, and if that doesn’t work out try to get a high paying job. The math does not math. The part that gets people the most tripped up is that we are still operating under finite goods and services. There is not enough wealth in the world to confiscate that we would be able to live comfortably and not work.
The equation is soon going to change dramatically. Likely within the next few decades, there will be more autonomous robots than people on Earth. It would hardly be using them to their full potential to leave them all turned off and only use a few thousand to serve the billionaires. Having them produce goods and services, and a LOT (probably many orders of magnitude more than today) is going to be a passive task.
Remember. Billionaires hoard capital. Not goods and services. They do use disproportionately more goods and services than regular people, but not nearly enough that they would need to hoard all the output of robots. They’re not going to be motivated to let all the output whither away and rot.
This is a dystopian fantasy. We are going to grow the economy exponentially from this point on, and there’s going to be an enormous excess of goods and services, and UBI is going to be extremely popular. To think that the rich would be content losing all their income from consumer spending, and content letting society whither away and die is not based in reality.
They LOVE to think of themselves as heroes. When they get more money than they can use they sometimes start huge philanthropy orgs. Saying “sure, I’ll let the robots stay running for you” is not anything more than what they currently do.
And keep in mind, billionaires, even anti labor ones like Elon Musk have said we’ll need UBI eventually.
That is not to undermine that people are suffering from inequality, or that it will be a difficult transition, but just to say there is reason to not give into your doomerism. Humanity is adaptable, and our lives have been getting better with new advances since we invented literal agriculture.

I'm a Valedictorian from Panama that graduates this year from HS and is going to study abroad, either on the USA or in Spain. Spain is actually more convenient since I already have the dual citizenship and thus would be much more cheaper (overall) than studying at a college in the USA. Though, the main problem is that I'm unsure of what I really want to study.
The thing is I really don't particularly "enjoy" any subject at school (if it really had to be one, then I'd guess Calculus). The subjects that I'm the strongest at are pretty much all math related (Calculus > Physics and Chemistry). Other than that, I completely detest anything that is not STEM (literature is the thing I hate the most to study) so any career of that type is completely discarded.
Obviouslly, given this, most people would suggest some engineering though I'm unsure about that myself... really no engineering even begins to pique my interest whatsoever (other than a tentative maybe on electrical engineering)
And, about medicine, I don't like Biology because it's all memorization, and that's (mostly) what medicine is as well. Plus, I don't like the idea of studying for so many years.
Then, as for studying math directly, I feel that, not only is the math you study in college something ENTIRELY DIFFERENT from what you learn in highschool but that the job options are extremely limited and underpaid.
Really, I'm only considering two careers at the moment: CS or studying at a Merchant Marine Acadamy and becoming a Ship Captain (odd choice but I have my reasons).
Now, when it comes to CS, isn't it true that the market is completely oversaturated at this point? I've heard some people say that studying EE gives you more job security and you could easily transition into CS from it but still. I'm still very young and naive so I'm not sure how any of this works (getting a job and working)... but, I don't feel there's anything that would make me distinguish myself from other applicants for a job.
When it comes to becoming a Ship Captain, the only thing that worries me (albeit a very big part of my decision to study this or not) is if I would be miserable or not working on a ship for 4-6 months at a time, which is unfortunately something that I would only know when I actually do it. Though, this career pretty much guarantees me a job as soon as I graduate and the salaries are quite good.
Essentially, both careers have their pros and cons but I find myself completely unable to decide on what is it really that I want to do. I've always liked computers (building them, working with and using them)... that doesn't mean CS is what I should study. And if I'm already reluctant to the idea of being a ship months at a time, then I shouldn't consider studying that, isn't it?

Hi, I'm looking into a career change and considering becoming an Actuary. I graduated with a 2:1 in Mathematics (BSc) from a top UK university back in 2021, but I've been working in a tech role since then without an outright Maths or finance component to it.
Does anyone have any advice on the sorts of things I should be doing if I want to have a shot at getting onto a grad scheme? I believe applications should open towards the end of this year for an autumn 2025 start date and I want to spend that time making sure I'm as equipped as I can be by the time applications roll around.
My current plan is to essentially brush up on the maths I learned at university, as well as potentially complete online courses or look into self learning what I can of the pre-requisite material recommended for actuarial exams. I'm not sure on the post-graduation cut-off time for grad schemes but I'm open to doing a masters if needed. Are there any areas of Maths that you'd recommend I focus on in the run up to applying?

"Truth" comes up all of the time in logic. I prefer to think in terms of transfer of belief. If we believe P and P => Q, then we should also believe Q. (I embrace the redundancy theory of truth.)
Formal systems, like Robinson's Q, give us an extremely "normalized" discourse. Whether an assertion is warranted is algorithmically checkable. This is a kind of ideal situation. A "judicial branch" is hardly needed. The hard work of "interpreting the law" is done in the debate about which formal system is more interesting or "referential." Primitive recursive arithmetic is appealing as a "hard core." It is easy to "believe in."
In school, I studied the usual real analysis in classical logic. We never even discussed computability, other approaches. It seems to me now that applied analysis is informally computable, so there is a gap between theory and practice in this sense. Engineers don't believe in calculus because of certain proofs. Such belief is empirically and socially supported.
As Hilbert and Weyl have it, the integration of physics and math is just as a whole. Individual statements may be "meaningless" or deficient in interpretability. That sounds reasonable. But is there not an argument here for a mathematics that is "too empirical" for (pure) mathematicians ? A loose system of mathematical habits and heuristics might just work.
Yet I'm attached to proof. The question might be framed this way : is the essence of math more logical or spatial ? I don't think there is a right and final answer here. Math seems to be both, need both. Logic needs to be applied to something, like the infinite ladder of natural numbers...

Erik listened as Morna’s footsteps gave a backing beat to the rhythmic busywork of the ship. Erik remembered how she had walked the walls of Lordsport on the day Sigorn was injured, her relentless pace only hitching momentarily in front of the maester’s door on each cycle.
Soon she returned to him again, both eyes on the deck, though only one saw it.
“Do you want to sit down?” he asked her as she swivelled, not particularly expecting a response.
“No,” she said, and stopped. It seemed to take some effort to look back at him. “I want to hit something,” she explained. Now that she was still, hands clenched into fists, she stood out amidst the rolling motion of the oarsmen to either side.
“Once we get cruising, we can spar, if that would help?”
Morna hesitated. “I want to break something,” she clarified.
“I don’t think I can help there.”
Morna waved a hand in a way that meant she’d get over it. When she resumed her pacing, Erik followed her to the midpoint of the ship, retrieving his fiddle from the hold. He met both his wives at the bow, and brought the instrument to his chin.
Drawing the bow across the strings, he pushed a few bars of an old and nameless tune, rising notes wishing good fortune across the waves.
Morna relaxed as the answering verses whispered back to them, leaning her scarred forehead against Kiera’s shoulder. After a few moments, she straightened, pushing her hair back from her eyes.
“I’m alright,” she insisted, flexing her hands, “I just hate when I can’t do anything.”
Neither Erik nor Kiera responded. There was no need. They understood.
Three days after the fleets separated, the winds turned on them. The tips of dark clouds on the horizon spoke of a storm that Shieldbreaker and the Fiddle flotilla were only feeling the echoes of, but it was a complete headwind all the same. Everyone aboard knew what it meant, but they groaned all the same when the nausea, the strain, the third thing began.
Erik kept his focus on the fervent activity on the deck, oarsmen keeping balance, two-men teams on the spar lines, Erik’s own hands on the rudder. Hours into the nauseating back-and forth, he found his focus drifting. He called Osfryd over to take the rudder for the upcoming portside turn.
Kiera had abandoned her perch on the bow that morning, and spent the whole day with her back against the mast, rubbing her forehead, eyes closing every time the creaking sail beam swivelled over her head.
He went to the canopy at the mast, and gently pressed a kiss to Kiera’s forehead. She looked up at him, smiling apologetically.
“The creaking makes my head ache,” she said, by way of an explanation. Erik just leaned on the mast beside her, and held her hand down by his side. They watched their other wife for a time. Morna was at the windward side of the ship as it turned, helping some of the crew scrape clinging seaweed from the hull, exposed from the waterline by Shieldbreaker’s dramatic tilt.
“She’s going to heave if she keeps going like that,” Kiera commented. Erik murmured an agreement, watching the seasick stagger that was starting to come into Morna’s movements.
“You know what she’s like,” Erik said. “You and Asha grew up sailing, she thinks she has to prove herself.”
Kiera scoffed, though there was a smile hidden in her offended scowl. “Asha barely sailed.”
Erik conceded that with a shrug. “She’s Ironborn, though.”
Kiera nodded, then squeezed her eyes shut as the ship began tilting to port, the spar over their head groaning as it scraped against the mast. She had always been Erik’s softest wife. Even as the shipborne bastard of a Tyroshi merchant, her youth had been filled with more comforts than a wildling huntress or daughter of a tiny Ironborn house were ever afforded.
The deck shifted beneath them, and the hull-scrapers abandoned their posts to move to the other side. Morna passed through the cabin, teeth bared even more than her scars usually made them as she tried to breathe through the nausea.
“Fuck this,” she said conversationally, and accepted Kiera’s kiss to her scarred cheek.
“You don’t need to work yourself to the point of illness, darling,” Erik said, but she shrugged the comment off like he knew she would.
“You can help any time,” she pointed out, not unfairly.
“I’ll be over in a moment.”
Kiera shook her head. “Iemnȳ ēdrulio glaesas, dōnītsosi. I read charts and look pretty. You strong people can do the actual work.”
The storm’s wake had passed by the next day, and Erik allowed his exhausted crew a morning’s rest. The bed of sand and the cookfire were back out on the stern, Theomore frying fillets he had cut from the fish other men had pulled from the sea in the days before.
As lord and captain, Erik had the benefit of first serving, sitting with his wives under the canopy at the ship’s centre, a well-done piece of cod speared on the knife that had avenged his father.
“You’re still a kneeler, as much as the rest of them,” Morna was saying, waving a fishbone insistently. Kiera’s lips twitched into a smile at the familiar argument.
“Look, the Archon is chosen-”
“By the people with gold,” Morna interrupted.
“Yes, but you told me the Kings-Beyond-The-Wall were chosen by clan chiefs-”
“That’s not the same.”
“I’m still not sure I’m a kneeler,” Erik interjected, smiling at how Morna's face twisted into mock outrage.
“Lord Botley, I do love you, but you’re the most kneelerish person I can put up with. We’d be up raiding Bear Island, or whatsitcalled, the lion city, Lannister-port or something, if you weren’t a kneeler.”
“Those people never did anything to us,” Erik tried.
Morna pointed, catching the error. “And what did this Volantis do to us?”
“Enslaved my mother,” Kiera pointed out. Morna eyed her, making sure her wife was still in the mood for play, before she pressed on.
“Fine, what did we do, then? Why raid the Frozen Shore?”
“Well you did-” Erik caught himself before he said “raid the North.” Morna eyed him, teasing curiosity raising her mismatched eyebrows.
“You got me,” he smiled, taking another bite of cod. “I only go raiding where I can find beautiful women.”
Morna grinned at the flattery and opened her mouth to respond, but was cut off by Kiera tutting in mock-outrage.
“I’m sorry, dōnītsos, but why are we stopping peacefully in Tyrosh, in that case?”
“I’ve met your father,” Erik reasoned. “Your looks come from your mother’s homeland.”
That broke the momentum of the debate as Morna barked a laugh and Kiera tried to hold one in, pinching the bridge of her nose. Erik chuckled, and managed not to flinch when the sailor called for him.
“Milord!”
Erik turned. Osfryd, leaning against the prow, hair flickering in the wind, pointed over his shoulder to the horizon before them all.
“Ship rising!” he called, by way of explanation.
Kiera was on her feet first, stepping lightly between the myriad of chatting crewmembers that Erik was surprised to see surrounding him and his wives. She reached the bow and climbed it deftly, hooking a foot in the lantern-ring as she often did. Erik and Morna followed more slowly.
“Merchant, by the shape,” Kiera said as they approached. Erik followed her gaze to the tall, barrel-hulled carrack coming over the horizon, half-silhouetted by the low morning sun. He could just make out a pennant fluttering at the tip of the tallest mast.
“Can you make out the flag?” Erik asked.
Kiera took a moment before answering, “Myrish, I think. They’re keeping dead on. You’d think they’d try to get around us, no?”
“Quicker to go through, I suppose,” Erik suggested. “Plus, they’re likely unsure how wide a fleet we have, or if we even want to attack.”
“Do we want to attack?” Morna asked.
The question drew the attention of several crewmembers, who quickly turned to listen to Erik’s answer.
Playing for time, Erik looked out at the ship again. The thought of battle made his blood tingle, but he was wary. Shallow-drafted longships like theirs were ideal for a shoreline assault, but much less suited for warfare at sea. There was a reason that the Royal Fleet consisted of dromonds and other tall ships. Attack even one Myrish trader and dozens would sink to the Drowned God’s halls. Pointless, unless there was some real reason to take that risk.
“Slavers?” Erik asked.
Kiera shook her head. “They’re heading to Dorne or the Stormlands, they know they can’t sell them there.”
“Then no.” Some men around him looked disappointed, others relieved. Erik reckoned he could guess how long each man had been sailing by that reaction.
“We’ll save our strength for a greater bounty, further East,” Erik said, his voice shifting to a commanding baritone. “To oars, men! Give them space to pass! I’ll not have them loose arrows on us for some misunderstanding.”
The knot of listeners loosened and fell away, dipping oars to water and pushing Shieldbreaker further out of the Myrish vessel’s path. The ship loomed as it came closer, and Erik saw men with crossbows take positions on the upper gunwale. A blue-haired, green-bearded man, the captain by his stance, stood at the prow and looked out at the passing fleet with suspicious eyes.
Kiera cupped her hands around her mouth and called, her voice clear and carrying as a flute, “Jemī ōdrikagon indī daor!”
We mean you no harm. It was one of the few phrases Kiera had insisted Erik learn. It got the captain’s attention, his eyes flicking across the ship until he found the speaker.
“Jaehor ojehiknon irughas!” he responded, his stance softening. The crossbowmen followed his lead. Not all of them lowered their weapons, but enough did that Erik relaxed. The captain followed with a sentence that included skoriot – where? Asking where they were from.
Erik saw Kiera give her best smile, and she gestured to the fish-covered green pennant on Shieldbreaker’s mast. “Āegenka Āja. Mȳro iksāt, kessa?”
The captain seemed to hesitate a little at her response, though Erik would have assumed that their hailing from the Iron Islands – for he recognised Āegenka Āja – was obvious from their ships. Their vessels were almost level now, and Erik could now read the curiosity in the man’s smile. He finally called, “Hen mirto Āegenka Ājor, Valyrīhos sȳrī ȳdrā!”
Kiera’s smile faltered at that, but seemed to renew with some quiet pride. “Īlōnda quptyri issa daor!”
The captain barked a laugh, and the reaction was echoed by a few chuckles among the crossbowmen. Erik couldn’t understand the joke, but laughed along anyway. Kiera leaned over to her husband.
“They are from Myr,” she confirmed. “I don’t think they’re interested in a fight.”
“Good,” Erik said. “Ask where they’re going.”
Kiera returned her attention to the passing ship. “Skoriot īlāt?” she called.
The captain pointed westward, presumably indicating his destination.
“Jelmāzmari Mōrio!”
Erik recognized the name of Storm’s End, but the rest of the man’s sentence was lost in a flurry of unfamiliar syllables. The captain rubbed thumb and forefinger together, so he gathered that he was speaking of trade with the Stormlanders.
The ship was passing them now, Shieldbreaker swaying as it was buffeted in its wake.
“Biarver aōt!” Kiera called. The man’s response was lost in the wind, but his smile told Erik that it had been some kind farewell. He watched the retreating galley with contentment. It was always good to meet a kindred spirit on the high seas.
The cawing of seagulls was the first sign they were approaching land. Always a light sleeper, Erik’s eyes shot open at the sound. Morna’s arm was still draped over his chest, her eyes closed and shallow breaths peaceful with sleep. Erik was careful as he wriggled out from beneath her, stood and stepped over her and Kiera, who had her face pressed into the nape of Morna’s neck.
Most of the rest of the crew were asleep as well, wrapped in thin blankets between the rowing benches. Three men were talking quietly to one another in the shadows to starboard, while six others played cards in the light of the new bow lantern. Back at the stern, Erik found Mathos posted at the rudder.
“Milord,” Mathos said, by way of greeting. He kept his voice low, and Erik followed suit.
“Mathos. No trouble in the night?”
“None, milord. Wind was steady, we’re dead on for the Bloodstone strait. Mind you, those smoke trails have me wondering, milord.”
Erik’s eyebrows asked his question for him, and Mathos just pointed past him, out towards the bow and the sea and the deep, dark shape of the island on the horizon, blocking the spill of starlight beyond it. Then, as his eyes adjusted to the sight, he saw them – thin, curling lines of smoke rising over the island. Five of them, tightly packed together, shining silver in the light.
Erik shrugged. They disquieted him, as well, but he voiced the most obvious objection to his worry all the same. “Bloodstone isn’t entirely uninhabited. It’s probably just a fishing village.”
Mathos gave a sort of half shrug. He obviously didn’t want to contradict his captain, but he pressed on anyway.
“Perhaps, milord, but who’s staying up to tend the fires this late? Sunrise is barely an hour away, by my reckoning. I can’t think of many reasons folk’d’ve fires kept so late.”
“Watchtowers?”
“It’s just a guess milord, but aye. What’re they keeping watch for, I wonder?”
Erik kept his eyes on the smoke, though his attention was focused inward. There was some fear there, and a hesitant surprise. Excitement boiled in his chest, but it had a core that Erik took a moment to identify. Satisfaction. Here was proof that he would not return to Lordsport unsated, that he would find more of what he sought most, as he had found first in Starfall.
The unexpected.

Has anybody here dealt with cognitive decline related to stress/anxiety around decline? My intelligence has been a point of pride for me for a while, but lately I’ve been dealing with a lot of stress, isolation, depression, and anxiety, and I’ve noticed that my overall cognitive function has declined significantly. I’m also only 22, so this is really freaking me out.
Intelligence was effectively the only thing that was valued in my family growing up, and I remember feeling a deep sense of shame every time I didn’t measure up, like I didn’t deserve to be my father’s son. I mostly forgot about this feeling around 3 years ago, but lately, as I’ve been getting dumber, this feeling has resurfaced. And this feeling has only been amplified by the fact that I’m pursuing research in pure math, which is effectively Miss Universe for brains. I used to enjoy meeting with my professors as I was confident that I could follow them in real time, and it was a real point of pride for me. Now whenever I meet my advisor, I’m anxious that I’m going to be spaced out/unable to follow him, which never used to happen. I also used to be able to concentrate on proving a theorem or solving an exercise in my head for as long as I wanted, but now I have trouble just sitting down and reading a theorem.
I don’t have much of a family; I was/am effectively using the respect of my professors to substitute for the love I never really felt growing up. But I feel like the professors only care about me in so far as I am intelligent/show potential. Honestly I just feel alone and helpless and I’ve been all over the place emotionally. All I want to do now is sleep, and there’s some part of me that just wants to give up on intellectual pursuits and just accept that I’m dumb now.
I think that me monitoring my acuity obsessively now is making this problem worse, and I just need to work more, but it’s really hard right now. I just feel this hole in my chest, and every time I get up to work, I feel it pulling me back down to bed. I don’t think that there’s an easy fix to this problem, but any advice and/or stories from people who went through similar experiences would be appreciated.

This all happened a year back. I (30M) was working for a medium scale business as a associate. I have a sister (28F) who also studied the same field as mine and once she graduated I referred her to my company and she was selected for the same role as me. We have been working together for 6 years and I had worked alone for 8 years. I know the she is qualified more than me for this role, so I knew she had the potential to grow better in this industry that's why 3 years ago when our manager quit the role and when the company was looking to promote someone from the team to the position even I voted my sister as I trusted in her capabilities. She and I got along really well, but once she became manager, she slowly started drifting away, as in she had her own circle of friends in office and I did not mind it as I too had a couple of friends who I frequently hang in the office before she came in.
The problem arose 2 years ago when the company was downsizing since during covid they mass recruited as the work demanded more and the company earned more but after covid when things went back to normal, they were paying more people but the work was less. Seems fair. So all the managers and HRs were informed about this and were asked to identify individuals who are unproductive to send them out of the company. Even my sister was a part of the email chain. Her circle of friends are none other then some of our colleagues who work along with us. These colleagues and I dont get along very well since we had an altercation in the first year of me joining about them dumping the work load on the rest of the team and basically I whistle blew and they haven't spoken with me ever since apart from general work discussions. So that's why I distanced myself with my sister as she became good friends with them. She knew we were not in good terms but did not know the reason.
So for downsizing she had to do research on the productivity metric and she went to ask her group about the members who are unproductive and they obviously pointed at me and another colleague of ours. I did not know about the reason of her targeting me until later after I was out of the job. So, she basically called me in to a meeting in her cabin with HR and straight forward said that I would have resign myself or I would be terminated from the job and that would look bad on my resume. When enquired the reason she said that I was not a team player and I am unproductive compared to the rest. I was pissed and angry but I asked her if she really thought that and she said that she had reasonable means to send me out. I asked her whether she took my actual work into account when taking this decision. She just said that she knows what she was doing and that I should resign. I just resigned on the spot and told her that we are done and we are not even siblings anymore and to not contact me anymore. I had two securities follow me when I went to collect my things and left the office. And I took my things and left. The next day my friend from work called and informed the above mentioned reasons for my termination. I just shook my head in disbelief and said that I don't care.
Indeed I have to pay bills, so without wasting time, I applied for similar roles in other companies and it took 3 months for me to get back into another job with a decent hike and a senior position at that. I was happy with the outcome. My family knew what happened and everyone supported her in the terms of her being impartial and true to herself instead of supporting Nepotism and that I should be ashamed of myself. I tried explaining the real reason but none were ready to listen to it, including my parents. So I went no contact with them saying they have only child and its their daughter and that their son is dead. I moved on with myself. The new job was in a different state from where I was from. So basically I moved away from my family and friends. I was still in touch with only friend from work who knew about what happened. My family tried contacting a few times basically asking me to stop being childish and to comeback. After ignoring them for a month they said that they are disowning me as I am making my sister feel guilty for her genuine right decision. So I said Ok and blocked them all.
They have not reached me from then. I know that I blocked their contacts but they still had other means like my email, getting alternate number or calling through relatives but no efforts taken. So I took the loss and moved on. That was until few weeks ago, I got a call from an unknown number, I just picked up the call and I heard my sister crying on the other end. I immediately knew who it was and I cut the call. This was followed by my family who called back to back and I did not pick any call. I just muted my phone and went to sleep that evening. The next day I woke up to 56 missed calls from my mom, dad and my sister. Followed by a message from her saying that she was sorry and that she made a huge mistake and that she wants to apologize to me and reconcile. I did not respond and I called my friend asking if anything happened at the office. He filled me in on the recent turn of events. Apparently my sister saw a dip in the productivity of the team after the other colleague and I quit the company. When they did the analysis to prepare the year end report she noticed significant dip in productivity after we quit. So, she went back to do the math on the work the new joiners and the existing members have done and noticed that even the newly joined employees had worked more than her circle of friends. That's when it hit her that I was not lying and that I meant it when I asked her to look at the work we do. After that, she had a warning from her Heads and following which she has basically terminated all her friends who were causing the dip in the work. From the calls and messages I can see that she has come clean with all our friends and relatives and she is desperate to contact me and apologize to me. To be honest I have moved on. I responded back that I forgave her for blindly trusting people and sacking me but that I will never forget what she did and that I don't hold a grudge against her but I want no contact that I was not related to them when they decided to disown me. This brings me to yesterday. I was at home and I heard someone ring the doorbell. I opened the door without any thought and noticed mom dad and sister standing at the door. I immediately closed the door. They kept banging the door. I just calmly responded back saying that they dont have to reconcile with me. They can move on with their lives, that I forgave them but that I dont want anything to do with them. I know that I may have been harsh but what I said is what I felt.
For additional context, I do have a girlfriend who is 37F (we met after I moved to this new place). She is with a 4 year old son but she never married to her baby daddy since he was not interested to get married by my gf wanted to marry and settle down. They broke up because of that but are cordial since they have a kid and for his sake. She knows about all the things that happened, she said that she supports me but that she feels that my sister made a stupid mistake of trusting people who she genuinely thought of as her friends. I don't think that is an enough reason for her blindly sacking her own brother out who helped with her career.
TBH, her forcing me to quit actually helped with my career growth, since I am in a senior position at this new job and I earn around 70 percent more than what I earned earlier. I am saving up for a down payment to buy a house at this new place as I am staying at a rented space and I feel the rent is expensive. (Why pay someone when I can pay the dues for my own place?)
Also, I am not from US. I am from a third world country. So trust me when I say this, suing the ex company and ex colleagues is a waste of my time and money as it will take years to even see some form of justice.
TL;DR! My sister fired me trusting her work friends and a year later she understood what happened and now she wants to reconcile but I have moved on and I don't want anything to do with her or my family.

She asked for prayers for Colt because he has a test coming up but then didn’t explain about the test.
Now HG is yelling for her and she didn’t even acknowledge him.
I guess Colt’s test is something about math. I genuinely hope he does well and is gaining something from going to school despite constantly missing days and probably being exhausted when he is there cause Judy never lets him sleep.
Colt might get into ABA therapy because of something his school initiated the paperwork. Again, I hope it works out for him and whatever happens with custody she doesn’t pull him out and try to homeschool him.
Someone just asked about established meal times 😂. Who was it. Now she’s saying Cash fell asleep late and slept late so he woke up late so meal time had to be moved back. I have a toddler who thinks sleep is a fun option. You know what I do when she falls asleep late? I still wake her up around the same time everyday so that way those late nights are an exception not the norm.
Saying Colt is aggressive and she knows she’s gonna catch shit for saying that. No shit Joanne. She’s saying Colt got aggressive with Cash yesterday.
The background sounds so chaotic. It’s overstimulating me and I’m in a dark room with no extra noise letting my daughter nap.
She said this is gonna be a commercial live. Whatever that means.
Said she has no motivation today. But said when she’s more motivated chit chatting with “us”. As someone with ADHD I get that. But podcasts and audiobooks help me stay on task. Body doubling videos were suggested because they do work. She said she uses them but idk when she would. She’s always on live “cleaning.”
She just told Cash to say “buy a scrub daddy”.

Said Colt has anxiety about going to the barber that’s why they gave him one at home 🙄. And he likes the way his hair looks. Even the anxiety about going to the barber is true they could’ve at least used scissors and not fucking clippers to cut his hair ?

Someone I’m guessing Cash wants her phone. She offered him his iPad or the computer but letting any of the kids have her phone is a hard no today.
