So, if you survived the southern campasak, for So, if you survived the southern campasak, for a moment I didn't think you would, I mean, no one will judge you for eating that berry, there isn't much food but luckily no kogen noticed you (those birds are very annoying and we don't have rules for avoid them) but fortunately you managed to cross the river and now you find yourself in this dense forest And we have rules
South-central Campasak, this is the smallest region of Campasak so it shouldn't take you more than a couple of days to get out of here, South-central Campasak is a very dense and dark forest so it is home to many creatures and we will have to give each one their own rules
Rules for south-central campasak
Rule 1: When you reach the shore, push the boat back to the other shore, it will be the fault of other travelers (the villagers have great power over this area and will be very angry if their canoe does not appear)
Rule 2: when you enter the forest you will see that it is very dark but NOTHING IN THE WORLD should you use a light source, this forest is FULL of entities and the only thing that prevents them from attacking you is that they do not see you
Rule 3: Stay silent, just like bats, the entities in this forest have almost perfect hearing so any sound louder than a breath will be heard, this includes sighs.
Rule 4: to minimize noise I recommend that almost your entire journey be crawling on the floor, this way you minimize the noise
Rule 4a: if when you crawl you feel a very slippery "slime" on the floor, you are VERY LUCKY, it means that the rule 10 tree of Campasak Sur liked you too much and decided to help you by spreading its roots and making a path with its sap, If this happens to you, simply jump on the sap as if it were a slide and move forward, you will leave here and reach Campasak center (if this happens, ignore the rest of the rules).
Rule 5: If at any time you hear the tick-tack sound similar to that of a bomb, get up from the ground and run, it doesn't matter if you make noise, the rest of the creatures have too much time for it and will forget about you for a while.

You have 60 seconds to get up and climb the nearest tree, when you are at the top close your eyes and count to 200, after this you can go down and continue with your trip, FOR NOTHING IN THE WORLD DO YOU OPEN YOUR EYES or you will see the sky of Campasak center -south, there are certain things that are not meant to be seen and one of these is the sky of this area of Campasak, if you open your eyes you will lose your sanity in a few minutes and you will become one of the things that hang from the trees (Did you really think they were fruits?)

Hey folks, I'm looking for a rather niche request.
Some people the old days of Everquest 2 (veterans of EQ1 can laugh at the use of "old days" here, but time marches ruthlessly onward, I'm afraid) will remember the starting area, Queen's Colony.
This was before a lot of the QOL and rebrands to make it similar to World of Warcraft, the game started like this:
After character creation, you found yourself on this island. Basic, calm, pretty. You'd answer a question: Were you a Fighter, Scout, Mage, or Priest?
You'd answer. And that was that.
No immediate prestige classes, no immediate class-thematic armor set. Just some robes, leathers, or modest armor. No secret powers, no other chosen-one progression systems.
You'd make your way to this tower at the center that had any relevant NPCs for buying and selling some things, learning how to become a woodcutter, or blacksmith, what have you.
Beyond the walled ring were fields dominated by goblins, and you'd make your way out in little excursions, by yourself or with whoever else was in the area, doing the similarly modest quests nearby, before returning to the safety of the walls to sell your things, maybe buy a new woodcutting axe, etc.
I was probably thirteen or fourteen years old.
I'd say a good 85% of the core of this memory is because, to a 13 year old who's parents are yelling in the other room, progressing your little life on Queen's Colony was an entirely new life.
But I do think a good 15% of that experience was the cumulative environment created by that starting area, and the feeling of all those details I mentioned.
I'm writing this post for a few reasons. One, does anyone else remember this? Is the (admittedly decent) venn diagram between progression fantasy fans and old EQ2 players large enough to snag anyone who knows what I'm talking about?
Second, I'm a writer myself, and want to hear about anything that evoked this feeling for you. That might be your version of EQ2, or your commisseration, your stories, what you like in a novel, etc.
Which leads me to my third point: I'd love any book recs to read that sound like a good fit for what I want. Not for professional writer reasons or anything, just to enjoy on a personal level.

He was my best friend. My everything. I imagined a future with him. Marriage. Kids. I wanted him and nobody else. But for the past two years, he stopped putting in an effort for me or our relationship. We would see each other once every two weeks, despite living a 10 minute drive away. He would say that he has no time for me, yet he would wake up early to raid in world of Warcraft, gym at night, then drink with his friends on weekends without inviting me. But, we would text and call throughout the day and send memes. We’d fight over this around once every 1-2 months, and every time he’d apologize and beg for another chance. Only for things to go back to the way they were.
Two weeks ago, when he did the exact same thing, I decided enough was enough and broke up with him. Since then, he was calling and texting me nonstop everyday, begging for another chance and making so many promises, telling me he can’t lose me, he’s sorry, he’ll change, I’m the love of his life, he wants to marry me and have kids, etc… and sending me cute couple/cat reels… he called hundreds of times and texted long paragraphs asking not to throw our relationship away… but I didn’t budge and told him over and over again to stop contacting me. Now he’s saying I’m heartless, he can’t believe me, I betrayed him, and he will never talk to me again. Fall of the Dungeon Guardians is a grid based dungeon crawler developed by Mana Games. Released in 2015, Dungeon Guardians asks us, "What if World of Warcraft dungeons were really big? Like, REALLY big?"
We play as an unfortunate group of souls who have been tasked with guarding a prison. What was supposed to be a boring job to pay the bills is now a fight for our lives as nefarious forces begin their work.
DG is a blobber. You control a group of four characters that are perpetually stuck together (hence, blob) as you move about a grid based dungeon. Solve puzzles, murder goblins and dragons, get sweet phat lewtz and try not to stand in the fire too much.
The Good
The sheer amount of customization in how you play the game is pretty amazing for how small the team is. Between the in game options and the small but active community that knows how to mod the game you can customize it pretty easily. I disliked that bosses dropped the same loot as normal enemies and lo and behold you can configure how much they drop and the quality of it by editing a few lines in an .ini file.
I also appreciate that while the combat is real time, it doesn't require you to do the 'square dancing' that you see in games like Vaporium or Grimrock. You're expected to stay toe to toe. Combat is well balanced around this which is impressive. We've all played RPGs where by mid/end game nothing is a threat anymore but here everything even up to the last boss remains an acceptable challenge. That being said...
The Bad
Anybody remember playing World of WarCraft circa 2006 and how combat involved staring at your action bars waiting for cooldowns? Yeah. That's here. Fortunately you can queue up 6 attacks in a row (3 by default, but you can up it to 6 in options which I strongly recommend). Even still, most fights require constantly watching for buffs to fall off, timing your cooldowns, waiting for stacking abilities and keeping an eye on what the enemy is casting so that you can interrupt big power attacks.
I honestly can't remember what most bosses looked like because I was so focused on my action bars the entire fight. Even with active pause I was having flash backs to raiding in WoW and how my life was watching bars fill up and debuffs count down. Game needs a trigger warning for former raid healers.
The Ugly
Loot falls into that +more gooder cycle. No interesting choices to be made as each class has an obvious best stat to focus on and if the loot that drops doesn't have that particular stat it's garbage. Due to the random nature, you can end up never replacing some items leaving your character feeling underpowered.
Fortunately you can save scum loot. Loot is generated at time of death. If you're having bad luck getting an item, you can save right before an elite/boss dies and just reload until you get an actual upgrade.
Final Thoughts
The puzzles are fun to figure out, the dungeon layouts are well done and the various boss fights are interesting to figure out even if the combat does involve staring at action bars. Dungeon Guardian is another in the ever growing line of "If you like RPGs but aren't familiar with gridders, go play Grimrock 2, Bards Tale 4 and Operencia first. If you now like the genre, then this is an easy pickup."
Interesting Game Facts
The lead developer is super active on the Steam forums for his game. It's been 9 years and he's still answering questions daily. He's active on Reddit as well though he mostly makes Tennis simulation games these days. Turns out sim-Tennis is more profitable than building dungeon crawlers.
