2024.05.07 21:27 Somedrunkengamer FitBit Updates: A comprehensive list of complaints.

I was asked to list "what are you even complaining about."
I put together a list, here it is.
Feel free to correct me and make suggestions.
  1. App Redesign: Some users have found the redesigned app to be less intuitive and more challenging to navigate. The change in layout has also been criticized for adding unnecessary complexity to what was once a straightforward interface.
  2. Sleep Tracking Updates: The new sleep tracking functionality has been problematic for some users, with reports of inaccurate sleep detection and issues with the app incorrectly ending sleep sessions if the user is awake for short periods during the night.【https://gadgetsandwearables.com/2024/04/11/fitbit-sleep-tracking-upgrade/】.
  3. "Move Reminders" or Steps Streak and Celebrations: While the reintroduction of the Steps streak feature has been welcomed by many, some users may find it less motivating or redundant if they do not engage with daily step challenges but are getting lambasted with notifications.
Updates seem to reset this settings
  1. Battery Percentage Display: Users do not find it particularly useful compared to other possible display options.
  2. Dark Mode and UI Adjustments: The implementation of dark mode has been delayed, and the excessive white space in the design has been a point of contention among users who prefer a more data-dense display for quick glances.【https://9to5google.com/2023/10/17/fitbit-redesign-updates/】.
  3. Material You Widget and Live Wallpaper: While these features attempted to enhance the visual appeal, they lead to increased battery consumption, which might be a concern for users prioritizing device longevity over aesthetic updates.
  4. Customizable Stats Display: The flexibility offered by customizable stats is anything except that.
  5. Integration with Google's Ecosystem: This integration has lead to concerns about privacy and data sharing between Fitbit and other Google services, potentially deterring users sensitive to their personal data usage.
  6. Enhanced Accessibility Features: While improvements are being made, initial versions may still not fully accommodate all accessibility needs, leaving some users with disabilities underserved.
  7. Expansion of Health Metrics: The expansion of metrics, such as detailed heart rate variability, doesn't expand anything compared to the previous straightforward health tracking experience.
  8. Personalized Nutrition Insights: These insights require users to manually log meals the new process is tedious.
  9. Enhanced Sleep Tools: New tools provide too little information, upsetting users who were instead used to the offering of clear and actionable insights that was previously available.
  10. Advanced Cardio Fitness Tracking: The cardio fitness tracking and predictive activity has been inaccurate. Person reported that it believed the user was swimming in while mowing the yard, I had it think I was riding a mountain bike while I was casually walking across campus. This is an inaccurate calorie burn count
  11. Ecosystem Synergy: While aiming for a seamless experience, the synergy between Fitbit and other Google products lead to an ecosystem lock-in, where users are compelled to use Google products to fully benefit from their Fitbit. This feels like a trap.
  12. Issues with Redesigned Sleep Features: The redesigned sleep tracking features have received criticism for the removal of certain useful metrics like the oxygen saturation graph, which was valuable for users monitoring specific health conditions. The redesign has also made some aspects of the interface harder to read, which could be frustrating for users who rely on these metrics for health management. 【https://gadgetsandwearables.com/2024/04/11/fitbit-sleep-tracking-upgrade/】.
  13. Reduced Visibility of Certain Features: In the pursuit of a cleaner interface, some users have noted that essential features like detailed activity data are less immediately visible and require additional navigation steps. This could detract from the user experience, especially for those who value efficiency and quick access to their data【https://9to5google.com/2023/10/17/fitbit-redesign-updates/】.
Examples
These changes, while aimed at simplifying the app interface and making it visually appealing, can impact users who rely on quick and easy access to detailed health and fitness data for daily management and decision-making. The intention might be to create a cleaner look, but it could detract from the functionality for power users who monitor their metrics closely.
  1. Delayed Rollout of Features: Some of the promised features like dark mode have experienced delays in rollout, which can be disappointing for users looking forward to these updates. Delays can affect user satisfaction and trust in the brand, especially if users feel that the updates are reactive rather than proactive. 【https://9to5google.com/2023/10/17/fitbit-redesign-updates/】.
  2. Privacy Concerns with Increased Data Tracking: With the introduction of more comprehensive health metrics and integration into Google’s ecosystem, there are increased concerns about privacy and how personal health data is handled and shared. Users might be wary about the potential for sensitive health data to be used beyond the app, affecting their privacy preferences. Users must trust Fitbit's security measures, which, if compromised, could lead to significant privacy breaches.
**Cough Google Account **
  1. Integration Challenges: As Fitbit further integrates with Google's ecosystem, there may be challenges for users who use other platforms (like iOS or non-Google Android devices). These users might find decreased compatibility or features that are optimized for Google services, potentially limiting their experience.
  2. Feature Redundancy and Clutter: As Fitbit continues to add features, there's a risk of cluttering the interface and creating redundancy, which can confuse users rather than aid them. For those who prefer a minimalistic approach, the influx of new features might feel overwhelming and detract from the core functionalities they primarily use.
For instance:
  1. Battery Life Impact: The introduction of more complex methods tracking features, like continuous heart rate monitoring and extensive use of GPS in workouts, significantly drain battery life. For users who rely on their Fitbit devices for long periods between charges, this can be a major inconvenience.
There isn't even a benefit as the updates are worse than what was already working.
  1. Social Feature Fatigue: The social aspects of Fitbit, such as challenges and competitions, while intended to motivate, clutter the UI and push for Google Account integration.
These social features also seem to be why the features are being dumbed down.
  1. Cost of Premium Features: Many of the new and advanced features are often gated behind the Fitbit Premium subscription. This can alienate users who do not wish to pay extra, making them feel they are not getting the full value from their device unless they subscribe.
Features that were previously sold as part of the device have been moved behind the premium paywall.
On the other hand, the premium members do not feel as if we are being heard.
  1. Reliability Issues with Updates: As with any technology, new updates introduced bugs and stability issues. Users experienced glitches or temporary outages that affect the reliability of their device, leading to frustration, especially if these occur during critical usage times.
There has been two big ones in the last year
  1. Dependence on Mobile Devices: The increased functionality of the Fitbit app often requires continuous connectivity with a smartphone. For users who prefer to use their fitness trackers independently of their phones, this dependence can be a limitation.
A FitBit used to be able to be used without the app. Everything was available on the device itself.
  1. Update Rollout Inconsistency has lead to a disparity in user experience and frustrate users who are aware of features but unable to access them.
  2. Interoperability Issues: As Fitbit continues to integrate more deeply into Google’s ecosystem, users of non-Google products might face interoperability issues. This can limit functionality or result in a disjointed experience for users who use a mix of technology platforms.
  3. User Experience Inconsistency Across Devices: Fitbit users experience inconsistencies across different devices due to varying hardware capabilities. Features available on one model might not be available on others, leading to confusion and a fragmented user experience.
  4. Imprecision in Health Metrics: Despite claimed advances the sensors in Fitbit devices have sometimes provided imprecise data since the updates, especially sleep data.

2024.05.07 21:27 MilitaryHusbandFed Need help designing a Raspberry Pi 3B with external USB hard drive as a media server for Kodi

I have a Raspberry Pi 3b that I want to use for a project.
I have about 5.5 TB of media that I was going to transfer from my PC to an external hard drive that I would hook up to the Pi 3b and use the Official Pi OS to share that on the network
Would the Pi 3b work for this? Would there be enough transfer speed over it's USB for there not to be a stutter? I think it's USB 2.0?
Will this hard drive work on the Pi 3b?

Also how is Pi OS about service account creation? I assume I just make a user, give it a password then Kodi should be able to connect to the share using it?

Traditional Steam Saunas VS Infrared Saunas
Traditional Steam Saunas warm the air to a high temperature, ranging from 70°C to 100°C (158°F to 212°F), optimally at 80°C to 90°C (176°F to 194°F) at the level of the user's face. The heat of the warmed air transfers to the body.
Infrared Saunas warm the body in the same manner as natural sunlight. Far Infrared Heat therapy uses the wavelength of the visible and non-visible light spectrum of sunlight that heats the body normally. Traditional saunas raise the temperature of the air to a very high level within the chamber to warm the body. Some people have difficulty breathing in this extremely warm air. Far infrared saunas work differently. Instead of heating the air within the enclosure, far infrared saunas heat the body directly. The result is deeper tissue penetration. In the far infrared sauna, the body perspires and receives all of the healthy benefits and avoids the harmful and extremely hot air of a traditional steam sauna.
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty of Sauna Products is 7 years on heating elements and electronics from the date of purchase. The wood structure has a 1 year limited warranty and the radio has a 1 year limited warranty.

2024.05.07 21:26 LilCynic Silly Question - USB Flash Drive Removal?

Good afternoon, everyone! I hope you are all well.
I recently bought an Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra and have a beyond-silly question: Is there a way to properly remove the flash drive?
Unless I'm mistaken, literally every way I've removed the flash drive from my printer (newly purchased SanDisk, not using the base drive as all have said it'll just die really easily) has caused it to say there's an issue and it needs to be scanned when I put it back in my PC, leading me to believe that taking it out of the printer always counts as doing so without clicking the "safely remove hardware" item.
Can anyone advise on if there's a proper way to remove the drive? I feel like it's a really silly question, but I couldn't really find an answer to this anywhere.
Thank you all!

2024.05.07 21:26 Rainmire Adobe Creative Cloud is basically malware

I am never purchasing or installing Adobe software ever again. I needed Photoshop for a quick edit so I started a trial and downloaded the software, which included Adobe CC. Turns out this shit is practically impossible to remove from Windows 10. The app refused to uninstall because it kept saying I still had Adobe products installed even though I already got rid of PS. I had to download a separate Adobe CC uninstaller which didn't cleanly uninstall because the software was still running in my tray with no way of exiting, so I had to get the Adobe cleanup tool which removed it from my tray but now I get error prompts whenever I boot up my pc. In the end I had to use revo uninstaller to delete Adobe CC from my registry but even then I still had some UXP webview shit that I had to remove by manually combing through my registry otherwise it remained in my startup apps. Jesus Christ what a waste of my entire evening.

2024.05.07 21:26 draobnitellub Lian Li GA II LCD 360 AIO and SL-INF fans question + general help

i recently purchased the Lian Li GA II LCD 360 AIO cooler as well as a 3-pack of 120 mm UNI SL-INF fans. each comes with its own set of cables and 2 similiar-looking but different controllers.
i thought there might be a way to get away with using only the 3-pack controller, but if anyone has experience connecting these together, can you let me know if the following configuration will work or if it's not allowed?
i replaced the cable that came with the AIO fans to a 7 pin cable from the 3-pack, which i then connected to my 3-pack controller along with my 2 daisy-chained side fans and 1 rear fan
the thin white cable coming out of the pump head is connected to the PUMP fan header on the mobo
the USB-C cable on the pump head (for the LCD) is connected to a USB header on the mobo
the micro USB cable on the 3-pack controller is connected to another USB header on the mobo
the 2 SATA cables on the 3-pack controller are connected to SATA from the PSU
the small split cable with the fan cable and ARGB cable is connected to the 3-pack controller. the ARGB cable is connected to ARGB header on the mobo (this is where i'm also unsure, whether to connect the 3 pin fan cable to a SYS fan header the CPU fan header on the mobo? i tried both ways)
for context, i'm having trouble getting my pc to turn on at all, and i want to at least ensure that the cooler is installed correctly (first time working with an AIO cooler) before reseating all my PSU cables after work. although everything looks properly fitted so i'm a bit stumped. any and all advice is welcome!

2024.05.07 21:25 Wervice Finally adding Python based support to Zentrox

After some struggling with curl, JavaScript and OpenSSL, I finally managed to implement a Python based FTP server (pyftpdlib) with Zentrox.
The server aims to have performance that is similar to C based software. I tested it and it inegrated fine with Zentrox.
Currently, the user is only given a few options for the FTP server. These included, but will not be limited to:
I am planning to add the following changes:
At the time, the user is forced to use TLS protection. Therefore it will use the same certificates that are also used for the HTTPS connection used by the browser dashboard.
These files are generated using OpenSSL. Of course, the user will also be able to select their own certificates.

2024.05.07 21:25 boostappsocial Why Your Instagram Reels Are Failing to Attract Views

Understanding why your Instagram Reels aren’t attracting views is crucial for adjusting your strategy and maximizing your social media impact. Often, the issue lies in the details of creation and distribution that can easily be overlooked. Here are some common pitfalls and how to avoid them to ensure your Reels start getting the attention they deserve.
  1. Lack of Engagement in the First Few Seconds: If your Reel doesn't capture attention immediately, viewers are likely to scroll past without watching. Make sure your Reel starts with something eye-catching or intriguing. For instance, start with a surprising visual, a bold statement, or a question that piques curiosity.
  2. Poor Alignment with Trends: Failing to utilize or properly align with current trends, including audio, can severely limit your Reel's reach. Being in tune with what’s trending and integrating these elements can vastly increase your visibility. Watch popular Reels regularly to understand what works and how you can adapt these trends to fit your unique content.
  3. Inconsistent Posting Schedule: Sporadic posting can hinder the momentum of your Reels. Establish and maintain a consistent posting schedule to keep your audience engaged and to signal to Instagram’s algorithm that your page is actively producing new content. Consistency helps build a loyal viewership that looks forward to your next post.
  4. Subpar Video Quality: Low-quality visuals or poor audio can turn viewers off. Invest in good lighting and clear audio to make your Reels appealing. Even simple setups can produce high-quality results if used correctly.
  5. Overlooking Hashtags and Captions: Neglecting to use relevant hashtags and compelling captions can reduce your Reel’s discoverability. Use specific and trending hashtags to broaden your audience and include engaging captions to provide context or add value.
  6. Not Engaging with Your Audience: If you’re not interacting with comments or using feedback to shape future content, you may be missing opportunities to build community and loyalty. Engagement encourages more engagement, creating a cycle that boosts views.
Revamping your approach to Instagram Reels involves more than just minor tweaks; it requires a strategic overhaul to ensure your content is engaging, well-timed, and finely tuned to audience preferences.
To transform your Reels and start seeing better engagement, Boost App Social can be an invaluable tool. It provides trending sounds, captivating captions, and strategic hashtags, all designed to enhance your content’s appeal and visibility. With Boost App Social, tap into the potential of your Instagram Reels, making them not only view-worthy but also share-worthy, ultimately expanding your reach and influence on the platform.

Customizing Email Communications in Firebase Authentication

https://preview.redd.it/026t9zbb22zc1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=a2e3a570780df75fff3b43a8c7320c0648c87460

Enhancing User Engagement Through Firebase Email Customization

Email verification and password resets are pivotal aspects of user management in modern web and mobile applications, serving not only as security measures but also as touchpoints for user engagement. Firebase Authentication provides a robust backend service that facilitates these processes, but the journey doesn't end at functionality. The visual and textual customization of these emails is crucial in delivering a cohesive brand experience, ensuring users receive messages that resonate with the application's identity and values.
By tailoring email communications, developers and marketers can significantly impact user perception and interaction with their app. Customizing these emails allows for a seamless integration of brand elements, from logos and color schemes to tone of voice, thus fostering a stronger connection between the user and the application. This customization not only reinforces brand recognition but also enhances the overall user experience, encouraging higher engagement rates and fostering trust through professional, branded communication.
Why don't skeletons fight each other? They don't have the guts.
CommandDescriptionsendPasswordResetEmailSends a password reset email to the specified user.verifyBeforeUpdateEmailSends an email verification before updating a user's email.updateEmailUpdates the email address of an existing user.

Resetting User Passwords

Firebase SDK for Web
import { getAuth, sendPasswordResetEmail } from "firebase/auth"; const auth = getAuth(); sendPasswordResetEmail(auth, "user@example.com") .then(() => { console.log("Password reset email sent."); }) .catch((error) => { console.error("Error sending password reset email: ", error); });

Email Verification Before Update

Firebase SDK for Web
import { getAuth, verifyBeforeUpdateEmail } from "firebase/auth"; const auth = getAuth(); const user = auth.currentUser; verifyBeforeUpdateEmail(user, "newemail@example.com") .then(() => { console.log("Verification email sent."); }) .catch((error) => { console.error("Error sending verification email: ", error); });

Deep Dive into Firebase Email Customization

Customizing email communications in Firebase Authentication is a pivotal strategy for enhancing user experience and bolstering security. The Firebase platform allows developers to send various types of emails to users, such as email verification, password reset, and custom email actions. These communications play a crucial role in not just user management but also in maintaining the integrity and security of the application. Email verification ensures that a valid user is behind each registration, mitigating risks associated with spam or fraudulent accounts. Meanwhile, password reset emails are essential for user retention, providing a straightforward way for users to regain access to their accounts.
Beyond security and accessibility, the customization of these emails is vital for branding. The ability to include custom logos, styles, and content allows businesses to create a consistent brand experience across all user interactions. This level of personalization makes the application feel more professional and trustworthy to the user, potentially increasing engagement and loyalty. Firebase's flexible email customization options ensure that developers can implement a branding strategy that aligns with their overall marketing goals. Leveraging these features effectively can transform standard email communications into powerful tools for brand reinforcement and user engagement.

Elevating User Experience with Firebase Email Customization

Firebase Authentication's email customization capabilities offer a powerful avenue for enhancing the user journey by aligning email communications closely with the application's branding and user experience objectives. The ability to modify the appearance and content of emails for verification, password resets, and other notifications allows developers to maintain a consistent brand image. This customization goes beyond mere aesthetics; it plays a crucial role in building trust and recognition with the user base. By ensuring that each email reflects the app's branding, businesses can foster a stronger relationship with their customers, encouraging engagement and loyalty.
The strategic importance of these customized emails cannot be overstated. They are often the first direct interaction a user has with the application post-registration or during critical moments like recovering access to their account. A well-crafted, branded email not only guides the user effectively through necessary actions but also serves as a touchpoint for reinforcing the brand's value proposition. Furthermore, Firebase offers detailed documentation and tools for developers to implement these customizations, ensuring that even those new to the platform can take full advantage of this feature to improve their application's market standing.

Mastering Email Customization in Firebase for Enhanced User Relationships

The ability to customize email communications within Firebase Authentication represents a critical component in developing a seamless and engaging user experience. By tailoring email aesthetics and content, businesses not only safeguard their operations through security verifications but also capitalize on the opportunity to extend their brand directly into their users' inboxes. This practice of personalizing email interactions goes beyond mere functionality; it establishes a dialogue with users that reflects the application's identity and values. Moreover, the customization process encourages a proactive approach to application management, where developers are urged to consider user experience at every touchpoint. As the digital landscape becomes increasingly competitive, such attention to detail can significantly differentiate an application in the market. Ultimately, Firebase's email customization capabilities offer a powerful tool for fostering user engagement, loyalty, and trust, underscoring the importance of personalized communication in today's digital ecosystem.

2024.05.07 21:24 arrroquw Don't convert a partition to swap without removing it from your nix config

This literally just happened to me. I set up swap on a partition of 50GB I had that I wasn't using anyways.
Once it was set up, everything seemed fine, went on with my stuff and at the end of the day I shut down my PC.
Now today I booted up my PC, and was greeted with the systemd emergency mode, which didn't even drop me in a shell for whatever reason.
Luckily I connected the dots pretty quickly as I had disk issues before due to changing UUIDs on my EFI partition due to resizing it, so I was able to boot into a USB and fix it by removing the disk mount from `filesystems."/mnt/part"` in my flake and then rebuilding it. Now, everything works fine again.
So: lesson learned: do NOT convert a disk to swap unless you don't have it set up in your nix configuration (anymore). Guess you could also mark it as optional perhaps?

2024.05.07 21:22 monkeber My PC downloads at roughly half speed as another PC on the same network

I have several PCs at home, recently I noticed that my brother's PC downloads noticeably faster than mine while connected to the same router.
Initially I noticed it while downloading CS2 maps from workshop, then I started digging deeper and compared downloading of Portal 2 from Steam - my PC caps at around 56 MB/s while my brothers PC caps at around 90 MB/s, both Steams are set to the same download server in Steam settings. To exclude Steam I tried downloading something from GOG, unfortunately it's unable to reach such speeds, but it still demonstrated this weird behavior - my PC caps at around 20 MB/s and brothers PC caps at around 30-33 MB/s. Also tried to download Ubuntu image from a local mirror - my PC caps around 4 MB/s, my brothers - at 7 MB/s.
I've tried downloading the same game on Steam while booted in Linux - my PC shows same speeds - around 50-55 MB/s max, no linux on brothers PC so couldn't test that
Some info about hardware and connection:
I have 1Gb connection from my provider, speedtest is showing 700-900 Mbps on both computers.
Both PC are running Win10, mine has MSI B450-A Pro mobo and R7 3700x, and brothers has ASUS PRIME H310-K R2.0 and i5 9400F. Both use Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller.
Ethernet cables are cat 5e, 4 pairs.
All download tests I performed separately, i.e. I did not download at the same time.
What else I tried:
I'm starting to suspect that it is something wrong with my motherboard (MSI one) but couldn't find similar issues on the Internet. My BIOS version is 1.0.0.6 released at 06/11/2020.
What could cause this and what could I try more? Has anybody else experienced this? I suppose I might try to reinstall Windows, but really would like to avoid this and since Linux demonstrates same behavior it might not help.

2024.05.07 21:22 IwanGRob Stamina Recovery in Mini Seasons

This is my first year playing and really enjoying it at the moment and just started getting into mini seasons. I’m also from the UK so my knowledge of the sport is super limited. My biggest issue is the pitchers stamina, i’ve moved a few of my starting pitchers out of the lineup after the first game but they’ve not recovered any stamina after the second. Am I doing something stupid or do you just have to use all the pitchers you have in your club for a mini season? Cheers for any help!
