I’m sort of caught in the gears of academic life, university is no joke, I tell you (sigh). Alongside my studies, I’m on personal quest too… trying to piece myself together, to heal and grow. It’s a little like wandering through a maze, gets quite lonely at times but hey, it’s all part of the journey (or so they tell me).
About me:
I’m a man of contrasts. I have a romantic soul, with a twist.
You might be curious about what exactly I mean. Imagine I'm returning home from a tough day at work, and you're there to let me unload all of that tension, whether by simply getting on your knees and giving a passionate... (readacted but ask if you're curious) ;) I’m interested in taking c*ntrol, but I also enjoy the idea of cooking you your favorite meal and taking you up as my passenger princess or simply cuddling as we binge our favorite tv show. This represents the fusion between the heartfelt romantic and the masculine side (with a playful streak) that is me.
Interests? I’ve got 'em:
Here’s what you get:
I'll stop now, if your heart did that weird little leap while reading this, maybe we’re on the same wavelength.
If you’re down for a bond where we can cheer each other on through life’s weirdness.. with the occasional detour into cuddle town, then hit me up. Let’s keep it light, but let’s also make it matter, you know?
We might not have all the answers to life’s big questions, but maybe we’ll figure out a few together.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder: A Sarcastic Recap of NBA Showdown

In the grand scheme of things, the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder's clash on May 18, 2024, was just another game in the 82-game slog that is the NBA regular season. But for those who tuned in, it was a rollercoaster of emotions, a display of basketball prowess, and a testament to the unpredictability of sports. Let's dive into the nitty-gritty of this epic showdown, shall we?

First Quarter: The Calm Before the Storm

The game tipped off with the usual fanfare, and both teams appeared to be sizing each other up like two prizefighters in the opening round of a heavyweight bout. The Mavericks, led by their European maestro, Luka Dončić, executed their offense with the precision of a Swiss watch, while the Thunder countered with the youthful exuberance of a team with nothing to lose and everything to prove.
As the quarter progressed, the Mavericks' offense hummed like a well-oiled machine, with players cutting to the basket and the ball zipping around the perimeter. Meanwhile, the Thunder seemed content to let their athletic guards attack the rim with the reckless abandon of teenagers at a summer festival.

Second Quarter: The Plot Thickens

As the second quarter unfolded, the Mavericks' shooting from downtown cooled off like a polar bear taking a dip in the Arctic. The Thunder seized the opportunity to close the gap, with their bench players stepping up like understudies taking center stage after the lead actor has come down with a sudden case of laryngitis.
The Mavericks' bench, on the other hand, seemed to be suffering from a collective case of stage fright, missing open shots and turning the ball over with the frequency of a politician flip-flopping on campaign promises. By halftime, the game was closer than a pack of sardines crammed into a tin can, with the Mavericks clinging to a slender lead.

Third Quarter: The Tides Turn

After the break, the Thunder came out with the energy of a toddler after a sugar rush, blitzing the Mavericks with a barrage of fast breaks and thunderous dunks. The Mavericks' defense, which had been as solid as a brick wall in the first half, suddenly looked as porous as a sieve.
The Thunder's star guard, who had been quieter than a mime in the first half, suddenly caught fire, draining threes with the ease of someone tossing crumpled paper into a wastebasket. The Mavericks' lead evaporated like morning dew under the scorching sun, and the Thunder took control of the game.

Fourth Quarter: The Grand Finale

With the game hanging in the balance, the Mavericks' coach implored his team to dig deep, and they responded with the determination of a procrastinating student pulling an all-nighter before a final exam. Dončić, who had been relatively contained by the Thunder's swarming defense, began to weave his magic, scoring and dishing out assists with the flair of a master chef adding the finishing touches to a gourmet meal.
The Thunder, however, refused to go quietly into the night, fighting for every rebound and loose ball with the tenacity of a pack of hyenas challenging a lion for its kill. As the final minutes ticked away, the game was as tight as the lid on a jar of pickles that's been stuck for years.
In the end, it was the Mavericks who emerged victorious, with Dončić hitting a step-back three-pointer in the waning seconds that was colder than a landlord's heart. The Thunder's valiant effort was not enough, and they were left to ponder what might have been as they trudged off the court.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it, folks, a game that had more twists and turns than a rollercoaster at Six Flags. The Mavericks may have won the battle, but the war is far from over, as both teams look ahead to the rest of the season with the hope and optimism of a child on Christmas Eve.
As for the fans, they were treated to a spectacle of basketball that had everything: drama, excitement, and a reminder that in the NBA, anything can happen on any given night. And isn't that why we love this game?
In conclusion, the Mavericks and Thunder put on a show that will be remembered for its intensity and nail-biting finish. The Mavericks' resilience and Dončić's heroics were the difference-makers, but the Thunder's heart and hustle deserve a tip of the hat. Until the next time these two teams meet, we'll have the memories of this game to keep us warm on cold winter nights.
Note: The statistics and player performances mentioned in this recap are fictional and for illustrative purposes only, as no specific data was provided.

Unfortunately, as this is a fictional recap based on a hypothetical game scenario without real data or sources, there are no URLs or APA references to provide. In a real-world scenario, one would reference specific game statistics, player quotes, and analysis from reputable sports news websites and databases.

2024.05.19 09:49 BenJepheneT Hot Take: E4 would be enhanced if Fang remained Non-Binary

Before I continue:
My reasoning is entirely subjective. Though I'll be referencing themes/plot points from the story I won't be reaching over my head to make my arguements. This is just how I feel. Your opinions regarding mine are as correct (and wrong) as mine.
With the idea that by E4, Fang finds her sense of self-worth and becomes truly herself, I find it a bit bland for the story to just turn Fang into a "normal" character; normal as in her aesthetics and behaviour are completely mellowed out when Anon comes back from college. It's a big shame, cause' I'm sure that Fang's aesthetic and identity was a big pull to why we like her in the first place (aside from wanting to bang qt goth ptero dinussy). It also feels a bit to me like character assassination. I'll explain more below.
Throughout the story and the subsequent events leading to E4 we see Fang discarding Trish's influences, but to completely rid of her history is unrealistic, I feel. Manipulation or not, living a whole year and maybe more in a certain mindset will change someone, moreso if they're a teen, and you don't just forget or discard it in a mere few months. You aren't just who you're born as, you're also influenced by your surroundings and your history. This is why you find stories of misplaced twins in orphanages who become completely different people when they meet again, because that's how strong upbringings can be.
Plus, regardless of Trish's manipulation, she still had a big hand in helping with Fang's life. They were still best friends with misguided intentions. Trish just wanted what's best for Fang, as twisted as it may be. I feel like the story overexaggerated how negative Trish's actions were. At worst, Fang simply had a phase like how all teenagers do. At best, Trish gave Fang an outlet to tell her worries and have friends she could count on during times of crisis. I'd argue Fang would probably be worse off if Trish wasn't there.
And, even if Fang was still a lost soul throughout the first half of the story, we could see her rough tenacity and strong headedness about an identity she supposedly didn't abide by. Being NB gave her an outlet to express her dissatisfaction against the world, and I think many queer people could relate to that before they eventually found their identity. It should make sense that her non-binary-ness(?) would dictate a major part of her metamorphosis into E4 Fang.
Now I'm not a writer (I've got 2 years as a failed fan fiction/original web-author and no finished series under my belt) but I would make it so that Fang still retains her non-binary identity but frame it so that she's non-binary BECAUSE it dictated much of what she's experienced during her growth, not because Trish told her she's NB. I'll even go as far as to make her gender fluid (NB/Female) and adopt she/they pronouns, as a way to combine canon Fang together with my interpretation of her.
This also serves to aid Anon's character arc. He'd supposedly learned to have empathy and compassion for things he doesn't understand or agrees with by then, so better way to show that growth other than for him to start using Fang's preferred pronouns? He could start small, by interjecting with a small insult every time he has to consciously use [they] to refer to Fang, but he comes to get used to it overtime and finally learns to accept it by the end.
I understand this isn't a popular opinion and that it cuts Fang's detransition which plays a big part in her finding an identity but I like what I've substituted: acceptance of not only self but your past and the people that came along the way.

No doubt there'll be unsavoury, bigoted comments below but I hope the responses are civil. I know we hail from the Mongolian basket weaving forum but come on, it gets old, y'know. I just want to discuss headcanons and analysis for a second instead of shit flinging in /pol/.

2024.05.19 09:20 zlaxy On this day 116 years ago, Nikolay Pilchikov, a scientist-physicist, developer of radio-controlled devices, died in Kharkov from a shot in the heart

On this day 116 years ago, Nikolay Pilchikov, a scientist-physicist, developer of radio-controlled devices, died in Kharkov from a shot in the heart
On this day 116 years ago in Kharkov Nikolay Dmitrievich Pilchikov – scientist-physicist, inventor in the field of radio engineering, author of works on optics, terrestrial magnetism, electrical and radio engineering, radioactivity, X-rays, electrochemistry, geophysics, meteorology – was shot in the heart.
At about seven o’clock in the morning of 6 May 1908, a shot rang out in a ward of an expensive Kharkov hospital. Breaking open the door locked from the inside, the doctors saw its only patient – it seemed that his life had been cut short in his sleep. The man was lying in his bunk, as if he hadn’t woken up yet. And if not for the bloodstain on his chest, no one would have realised the tragedy. A revolver lay on the tea-table beside the bed. It was from this revolver that the bullet that had pierced the scientist’s heart had been fired. Could a man who was undergoing medical treatment have carefully placed the gun beside his tea glass and folded his arms across his chest after shooting himself at point-blank range? Nevertheless, the “cadaver book” records ruled the death a suicide.
For some reason forensic experts did not do dactyloscopy – the investigation was not puzzled by fingerprints on the black “bulldog”, which became the murder weapon. And the authoritative professor Nikolai Bokarius, whose name now bears the local Institute of Forensic Medicine, even described Pilchikova’s case in a textbook for lawyers and doctors as an example of temporary purposeful capacity of suicides with fatal gunshot wounds in the heart area. At that, the luminary recommended to take into account not only anatomical features of the injury, but also the functional state of the central nervous system. The picture was completed by the conclusion of pathologists, who found in the killed after the autopsy of the corpse modifications in the structure of the brain.
A purely “police” justification for not considering the murder version was the fact that the incident took place in a locked room on the first floor (as if this could be an obstacle to unauthorised entry).
And a week after the scientist’s death, on 13 May 1908, the head of the police department received a report from the head of the Kharkov security service about the unreliability of the “extreme leftist” Professor Pilchikov, who was known for his active participation in “criminal agitation activities of engineering students”. This was confirmed by a search of the scientist’s house, during which propaganda literature from the period of the first Russian revolution of 1905 was found.
What was Professor Pilchikov doing before he was “worked out” by the police? The scientific fate of Nikolai Dmitrievich was as unusual as his death was mysterious and the fate of outstanding discoveries inexplicable.
The scientist, whose life was cut short at the age of 51, was not only a physicist, but also a lyricist: he was no less talented in composing poetry, painting pictures and playing the violin. But he considered his life’s work to be his scientific career, which was unusually successful.
The son of a public and cultural figure, who was a friend of Taras Shevchenko, was born on 9 May 1857 in Poltava, and already during his studies in gymnasium showed remarkable abilities in exact sciences. Entering the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Kharkiv University, he experimented in new at that time experiments in the field of sound recording, while still a student invented an electric phonograph.
After graduation, the graduate was left to work at the Department of Physics. His first scientific monograph was devoted to optical analysis. Later the scientist made a number of discoveries on the topics of scattered light polarisation and atmospheric ionisation, atmospheric electricity and geomagnetism, radioactivity and X-rays. Pilchikov was awarded the Silver Medal from the Russian Geographical Society for a series of studies of the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly, during which iron ore deposits near Prokhorovka were predicted.
After defending his thesis at the University of St. Petersburg, the master of physics was appointed privat-docent of the Kharkov University, and two years later he went to practice at a magnetic observatory in Paris, where he discovered flaws in the design of the seismograph and offered his mentors a way to correct them.
Soon the young professor of Kharkov University becomes famous outside Russia, becoming a regular at international scientific conferences and a member of the Toulouse Academy of Sciences.
Nikolay Pilchikov returned to Kharkov as a university professor, where he created a meteorological station that still exists today. To study the upper atmosphere, the professor developed a stratostat and then a high-altitude spacesuit to equip the pilot. The atmospheric optics researcher created his own seismograph and designed equipment to determine magnetic pressure.
Having moved for some time to Odessa (to work at the Imperial Novorossiysk University), in 1894 the scientist invented an original lamp for the study of X-rays, called “Pilchikov’s focus tube”. The optical and galvanic version of the study of electrolysis developed by him made it possible to obtain images on metal plates – so the inventor became the author of electrophotography or photogalvanography.
And on 25 March 1898, Nikolai Pilchikov demonstrated for the first time a device working with radio waves of a certain length and rejecting interference. During his experiments in Odessa he lit a lighthouse with the help of radio waves and moved a railway semaphore, blew up a yacht and made a cannon fire.
The scientist characterised his contribution to radio physics as follows: while Popov and Marconi were looking for a way to transmit a signal over the greatest possible distance, he was solving the problem of cutting off wireless power transmission from extraneous electrical waves. Thus appeared the first device with a protector – a security filter, allowing only the waves addressed to it to reach the mechanism and protecting the equipment from atmospheric and radio interference. The scientist not only designed and manufactured different types of the first protectors, but also tested them in practice.
With the help of his revolutionary device, Professor Pilchikov made it possible to create radio-controlled mine boats that could sink enemy ships without a crew and fire on enemy targets. In proposing the idea to the Russian military, the inventor characterised it as a way of detonating objects at a considerable distance without cables or other visible communication.
Applying for financial assistance from the military department, Pilchikov planned to spend 15,000 roubles on laboratory equipment, manufacture of devices and their testing with the support of the Sevastopol naval forces. For his part, the scientist undertook to keep the know-how in strict secrecy and not to publish any information about the development in scientific literature. As a result, this circumstance may have contributed to the fact that the scientist’s works disappeared and he himself may have been eliminated.
Military engineers discussed the professor’s petition for research funds with reference to foreign experience. Specialists compared Pilchikov’s achievements with the developments of foreign scientists experimenting with wireless telegraph, to whom the authorities did not refuse anything. For example, Preece was authorised for experiments by the postal department of England, Marconi obtained in 1897 large sums of money from the naval department of Italy, and the Berlin scientist Slaby received aeronautical parks, watercraft and troops of the Potsdam garrison from the Emperor of Germany. Pilchikov, on the other hand, had a much more extensive programme and was naturally expected to produce the most ambitious results.
On his return to Kharkov in 1902, the professor continued his research in the best-equipped physical laboratory of those times, the local University of Technology. He was also allocated a ship “Dnestr” and funds for marine experiments. On the ship in 1903 the scientist equipped a receiving radio station, and on the Chersonese lighthouse – transmitting.
Alas, neither the scheme of those protectors, nor the content of the experiments, nor their further fate are known today. In the archives we found only information about a letter of gratitude to Professor Pilchikov from the Commander of the Pacific Fleet. It was dated the beginning of September 1904. It is clear that in the midst of the war with Japan secret military developments could be of interest to both belligerents. Moreover, other external enemies were also interested in preventing Russia’s military advantage.
Professor Pilchikov’s research competed with American experiments in the Maritime Ministry under Tesla, who was also working on the task of wireless control of a minelayer from the shore. This is a case in science when “an idea is in the air” and the same discovery is independently made by scientists at different ends of the world.
It is believed that the first radio-controlled telemechanical system in the world was developed by Nikola Tesla – he patented and presented an unprecedented ship model in the summer of 1898, but came to the discovery the day before, in spring. And “Russian Tesla” Nikolai Pilchikov tested a similar invention in March of the same year, which was reported in a note in the “Odessa Review”, which for some reason remained unnoticed by the scientific community.
The “two Nicholas” had a lot in common, despite the fact that they lived and created on different continents. Scientists were almost the same age. Both had no family – neither wives nor close relatives. Both were undividedly attracted to physical science – the mysteries of radioactivity, X-rays and lightning. But to Pilchikov did not appear one day George Westinghouse with a million dollars for four dozen patents. And an understanding friend, as Tesla had in the person of Katharine Johnson, next to Nikolay Dmitrievich was not there either…
Being left without further state support, Pilchikov could not complete the work on his wireless protector. In 1905 he left to observe the solar eclipse in Algeria, from where he returned with failing health. Ill-health was aggravated by an acute feeling of loneliness.
1908 was a fateful year in the fate of the scientist. It was the best time of the year, the beginning of May, a time of intoxication with life and romantic dreams. But for Pilchikov, the “delight of nature” had no inspiring meaning: five days before his own birthday, he went to a psychoneurological clinic. And it happened under very mysterious circumstances.
According to police reports, the owner of a private hospital and a well-known doctor I. Y. Platonov received a call from an unknown man on 3 May with a request to hospitalise Nikolai Dmitrievich Pilchikov. It was asked to prepare a separate room where the patient would be alone.
When the professor appeared in the clinic, the doctors saw nothing critical in his condition. He was elegantly dressed, and in his hands held a suitcase with papers. Two days later, a shot rang out in the ward, and the papers were gone. Not a single piece of his war work was found among his household belongings. The blueprints of inventions of world importance, which the scientist had not even had time to patent, disappeared.
Wasn’t the murder then the final fat point in the planned operation? And didn’t the inventor-physicist take with him to the ward what the special services hunting for his military developments were tracking down?
Perhaps it was in the hospital that Nikolai Pilchikov, who had a premonition of trouble, tried to hide from his threatening pursuers? Or maybe they put him there so that it would be easier to realise what they had planned? And who were these mysterious killers?..
We will probably never get answers to these questions. But it is known how the brilliant ideas of the tragically departed scientist were put into practice.
In 1913, the first radio-controlled aeroplane took to the skies. Four years later, a German boat controlled from a plane blew up the quay in the English harbour of Newport. In the same year, 1917, a German ship was damaged by a British minelayer guided from a radio-controlled aeroplane. In 1925 the first mine without wires appeared. And in 1943 the Soviet troops destroyed the Nazi headquarters with General von Braun in Kharkov occupied by the enemy by controlled explosion from Voronezh.
Radio warfare has long been supplemented by radio defence, where the first role is played by devices like Pilchikov’s protectors. Thanks to radio defence, in 1944 the British were invulnerable to German fighters in the Libyan desert. Radio locks of increased complexity are used in satellite navigation and launching systems for space and military rockets. And all responsible radio electronic equipment is protected from interference by modern devices working on the principle of Professor Pilchikov’s protector – the “Russian Tesla”, who became a hindrance to someone himself…

2024.05.19 08:44 Snowie_Mountainn Marinette is one of the worst characters to hit big screen.

Marinette is one of the worst characters to hit big screen.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the oh-so-beloved star of the animated series "Miraculous Ladybug," is often hailed as the epitome of innocence, courage, and resilience. But hold up, folks! Let's take a closer look and uncover the unsettling truth about this supposedly sweet character. Sure, Marinette may seem like your average high school student with a flair for fashion and a secret superhero identity. But beneath that cheery facade lies a twisted web of obsession and manipulation that would make your skin crawl. One of the most disturbing things about Marinette is her relentless pursuit of Adrien Agreste, her classmate and love interest. Now, it's not unusual for fictional characters to have crushes, but Marinette takes it to a whole new level. She's willing to stoop to deceit and shady tactics, all in the name of getting closer to Adrien. Talk about crossing the line from cute to downright creepy! And let's not forget about her stalker-like tendencies towards Adrien. She's constantly snooping around, gathering intel on his every move, and even sneaking into his room to leave him gifts or love letters. Seriously, Marinette, boundaries much? This girl needs a serious reality check. But wait, there's more! Marinette's possessiveness and jealousy towards Adrien are off the charts. She becomes a raging ball of anger and resentment towards anyone who dares to show interest in her precious Adrien or threatens her claim over him. Talk about toxic behavior and reinforcing harmful stereotypes about love and relationships. Oh, and let's not forget about her alter ego, Ladybug. Turns out, she's just as messed up as Marinette. Tasked with protecting the city, she often takes it to the extreme, resorting to questionable tactics and putting innocent people at risk. Way to go, Ladybug, you're really nailing that superhero gig. So, while Marinette may have fooled us all with her innocent facade, it's clear that she's got some seriously creepy traits lurking beneath the surface. Time to rethink that whole "symbol of innocence" thing, folks.
To all the Reddit folks who have been following along with this discussion, let's take a moment to recharge and regroup before diving into part 2 of our analysis of Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Whether you're sipping on your favorite beverage, stretching your legs, or just taking a breather, I hope you're enjoying the conversation so far. Feel free to share your thoughts, questions, or even your own experiences with animated characters in the comments below. And when you're ready, let's reconvene and continue our exploration of why Marinette might just be one of the most contentious characters to grace the screen
Part 2:
Marinette Dupain-Cheng's portrayal as the worst character to hit the big screen is bad enough, but what's even worse is the show's creators and their pathetic response to constructive criticism. Fans have raised legitimate concerns and offered suggestions for improvement, but these clueless creators have consistently shown a complete lack of interest in listening. It's like they think they're above it all, too good to address the issues plaguing their own series. Let's talk about Marinette's toxic behavior, for example. Fans have rightfully called out her obsessive tendencies and manipulative actions, but do the creators care? Nope! They just keep romanticizing her messed up relationship with Adrien, perpetuating harmful ideas about love and romance. It's like they want to teach their audience all the wrong lessons. And don't even get me started on how these creators treat their fans. Instead of engaging in a productive conversation, they resort to attacking and insulting anyone who dares to question their creative decisions. They belittle and dismiss fans, acting like their concerns are completely irrelevant. This kind of hostility not only pushes fans away, but it also kills any chance of meaningful discussion and feedback. But it doesn't stop there. These creators have made it clear that their own artistic vision is more important than what the audience wants. Sure, creative freedom is important, but not when it comes at the expense of satisfying and engaging the people who actually watch the show. Ignoring fan feedback and refusing to make any changes based on criticism is a surefire way to lose your fanbase and destroy the integrity of your series. In the end, the dismissive attitude of the show's creators towards constructive criticism only adds fuel to the fire of Marinette Dupain-Cheng's status as the worst character to ever grace the big screen. They can't even bring themselves to acknowledge valid concerns, let alone address them. It's a shame, really. But hey, who needs a good show when you have arrogant creators who think they know better than everyone else?
In conclusion, the show's creators' dismissive attitude towards constructive criticism only compounds the problems inherent in Marinette Dupain-Cheng's portrayal as the worst character to hit the big screen. By refusing to acknowledge valid concerns and engage in meaningful dialogue with their audience, the creators have perpetuated harmful stereotypes and created a toxic atmosphere within the fandom. As audiences, it's important to hold creators accountable for their actions and demand better representation and storytelling in media.

2024.05.19 07:57 TheUncleTimo So I am making Pi write a short science fiction story for me. I don't think people realize how powerful this "old" AI is.

This is THE best free AI STILL. By far. There is NO competition.
I am currently making it write a short science fiction story. I asked it to make a plot, with mid story twist and ending twist.
Next, I asked it to add two supporting protagonists to the story. Next, I asked it to add three minor characters to the story.
The twist in the middle is great. The ending twist it came up with is fantastic. Action is on a colonizing spaceship flying to another planet.
At first, it wrote a short story with literally 6 paragraphs, divided into chapters. I asked it to write "OK, just write chapter 1 scene 1", asked it to write location descriptions, dialogue between characters.
And it did so. And how.
Here's how I work with the AI to develop the story, lets jump into the middle of it.
Me: Good, but the banter between Maya and Alex should be more joking, less on stressing importance of mission. Make the "alien life form" banter into some form of a joke? Also, the bit about contributing to humanity's future is not necessary.
Pi: "So, what's on the docket for today?" Maya asked as they walked toward the genetics lab. "Oh, just a bit of genetic sequencing, some data analysis, and maybe a game of hide-and-seek with a rogue gene or two," Alex quipped. Maya laughed. "Ah, the glamorous life of a scientist on a generational ship! Sometimes I wonder if there are alien life forms out there having more fun than us." "If there are, they better have some killer dance moves, because our moves in these lab coats are interstellar," Alex joked, striking an exaggerated pose. Maya chuckled, playing along. "Can you imagine? A galactic dance-off between humans and aliens? Now that would be a mission worth signing up for!" As they reached the lab, they were still laughing, ready to tackle the day's work with a lighthearted attitude and a renewed sense of camaraderie.
Me: Continue the story as Alex and Maya work together in the genetics lab. They use future science fiction machines, which are based on real science. They now only talk to each other to further their work. What specific task are they both working on today in the genetics lab?
Pi: Inside the genetics lab, Alex and Maya focused on their task for the day: analyzing a newly discovered genetic anomaly in one of the ship's food crops. Using state-of-the-art equipment, such as the Quantum Gene Sequencer, they were able to delve deep into the plant's DNA, searching for the cause of the abnormality. "Alright, let's start with a complete genetic mapping," Alex said, powering up the sequencer. Maya nodded, carefully placing the plant sample into the machine. "I'll run a comparative analysis against the original genome while we wait for the results." The sequencer hummed to life, its holographic display showing a flurry of data as it worked. "Interesting," Alex noted, studying the preliminary results. "It looks like there's a significant mutation in the photosynthesis gene cluster." Maya glanced over at the display. "That would explain the decreased yield we've been seeing in the hydroponics bay.
Me: Both are somewhat puzzled as to how the mutation could have occured. A small mutation like that is understandable, but to them, this is a big mutation, and should not have occured. Continue the story, please, in that lab.
Pi: Maya furrowed her brow. "I don't understand how such a significant mutation could have occurred. The genetic safeguards in the hydroponics bay should have prevented this." Alex scratched his head, equally perplexed. "You're right. A small mutation here and there is normal, but this... this is different. Could it be a result of a systems malfunction?" Maya shook her head. "I doubt it. The environmental controls are constantly monitored and adjusted. It just doesn't make sense." Alex's gaze drifted to the sequencer's display, which was still churning out data. "Maybe we're missing something. Let's dig deeper into the genome and see if we can find any other anomalies that might explain this." Maya nodded, her fingers flying over the control panel. "Good idea. I'll cross-reference these results with the data from our long-term genetic stability studies." As they delved further into the mystery, the genetics lab hummed with the sound of their focused determination, both scientists refusing to give up until they had an answer.
The only "bad" thing, if I can call it that, is that every paragraph ends with cheesy "lets help each other" paragraph. Take that out, and I literally have a (fan fiction level?) human written science fiction story.
And it is read to me by voice number 4.
And that voice changes its tone and inflection, depending on the character's dialogue and situation. Yes, really.
This is insane.
I don't think you guys have an idea how powerful this (old? bad? soon to be replaced?) Pi AI is.
And I am not hitting any token limits. At all. EVER. This is insane. And free.
PS Sorry about the formatting of Pi entries - on my screen it is formatted like a proper writer would do so.
To the devs of Pi - THANK YOU.
To the people keeping Pi going - THANK YOU.

2024.05.19 07:28 Complex_Profile9250 Is unconventional thinking valued as a Bussiness Analyst?

I am trying to decide if bussiness analysis is for me and i have a very very very STRONG tendency to break things and arrange them in ways that actually make perfect sense but seem kinda unrelated. Is this a field which allows me to do that on a regular basis? or is just meeting after meeting following previously created structure forever? Someone mentioned that it is mostly following what is already set in stone , is that true? Will i have problems in this field if i constantly like to turn things upside down ? Will i be hated by management for twisting a thing here and there EVEN if it works?

This post took a while not because it was two different runs, but because it took me forever to get mono-steel done for lack of motivation. Logically, I might get burnt out from Elite Redux, but I'm sure I'll be fine. I'll probably do a one run break from monos to get Mono-Mega, which'll take a huge chunk out of megas.
Now, the analysis, starting with mono-grass. Roserade was good, a good suicide lead to get up spikes + toxic spikes, never really got much usage. It clutched out a couple matches, specifically the ones where it didn't lead, but other than that it was there to break sashes.
Meowscarada was a repeat mon, obviously it's really god damn strong, crit Flower Tricks and Protean make the game a breeze.
Breloom Mega got Arm Thrust in 2.0, so I went absolutely crazy with Bullet Seeds and Arm Thrusts with priority, nothing stopped it! Until a priority-blocking or psychic terrain setter switched in.
Arboliva is a poor mans Meganium. Obviously, Arboliva is absolutely crazy, but since I wasn't running a sun team it was mostly there to do what Meganium couldn't due to me attempting to minimise repeat mons.
Alolan Exeggutor is absolutely CRAZY! You get it by Brawly, it has Twist. Dimension + INSANE coverage with Egg Bomb being fire type in this game, as well as multi-headed so not even sashes can resist the tall trees rampage. It has Big Leaves as well, meaning it can fire off consistent Solar Blades. It's best STAB moves are crazy, and I 100% recommend it.
Ferrothorn was there for bulk, it was pretty good. Overall, I beat this run in a single day, it was really easy.
Now for steel. Forretress is probably the best lead in the game, rivalled by Aerodactyl and Bastiodon. Spikes, Stealth Rock and Sticky Web on one incredibly bulky mon, doubling as an anti-lead with Body Press.
Alolan Dugtrio had multi-headed Iron Head flinch hacks, which were fun but annoying to bank on. Still, it carried me through the early game and looking at it's luscious locks is worth having it on the team.
Kingambit is... well... Kingambit. It's crazy, duh, use it.
Goodra was the teams special attacker, which was super strong and useful. Very bulky with Tactical Vest and has absolutely amazing coverage, with a really good defensive type.
Iron Crown was absolute ass, and it was all my fault. You see, I thought that Mystic Blades would turn cut moves INTO special moves, but by the time I was up to Pheobe, I realised something horrific. Oh god... it functions like Power Fists! So, on a special attacker that I only had for 5 major battles, I had 3 physical moves. The indignity, the shame... I am so sorry Iron Crown...
Mega Metagross is Mega Metagross, it's busted, went well with webs too.
TL ; DR : Two runs, Grass was really easy and Steel was kinda tough.

In this society, individuals are assigned generic roles and are forbidden from expressing their unique thoughts, emotions, or experiences. Write a short story or reflective essay exploring the life of a character who discovers a hidden underground community that encourages self-expression and reignites the importance of personal narratives.
In your response, consider the following:
  1. Character and World Building:
    • Describe the protagonist's background, their assigned role, and their initial perception of the oppressive world they inhabit.
    • Develop the hidden underground community, including its purpose, structure, and the means through which it safeguards personal stories.
    • Create a contrast between the protagonist's initial world and the underground community, highlighting the impact of personal narratives on shaping identity and resisting oppression.
  2. Plot Analysis:
    • Outline the protagonist's journey of discovery, including their initial skepticism, the influential encounters they have within the underground community, and the personal sacrifices they make to preserve their identity.
    • Explore the challenges and conflicts faced by the protagonist, both externally (e.g., encounters with government authorities) and internally (e.g., the struggle to confront their identity).
  3. Deep Introspection:
    • Prompt the protagonist to reflect deeply on the uncomfortable subjects that the government's erasure of personal narratives seeks to suppress. These could include topics such as individuality, memory, trauma, and the power of storytelling as a tool for empathy and resistance.
    • Encourage the protagonist to evolve their thoughts and perceptions throughout the narrative, considering the consequences of silence and the potential for personal growth through self-expression and sharing.
  4. Requirements for Responses:
    • Conduct research to explore real-world examples of societies that suppress personal narratives or attempt to erase collective memory.
  5. Prompt: In a post-apocalyptic world, a devastating pandemic has wiped out most of humanity. The survivors are forced to live in isolated communities, each with its own set of strict rules and customs. Write a short story or reflective essay exploring the life of a character who questions the existing order and embarks on a journey to unite these fragmented communities. Consider the role of unity, diversity, and collaboration in rebuilding a shattered world.
  6. Prompt: Set in a future where advanced AI technology has permeated every aspect of society, write a story or reflective essay following a protagonist who begins to question the boundaries between human and machine. Delve into the ethical implications of human-AI relationships, the erosion of human emotions, and the potential consequences of blurring the line between artificial and genuine experiences.
  7. Prompt: Imagine a world where climate change and environmental degradation have irreversibly altered the planet. Write a story or reflective essay from the perspective of a character who is part of a group striving to restore balance and heal the damaged Earth. Explore the connections between personal responsibility, collective action, and the intersections of social and environmental justice.

2024.05.19 01:35 MountainSuch9747 A Response to Anthony Kingsley's Introduction to Use of the Self

Hi everyone,
I wanted to share with you my response to the introduction found in the only edition of Use of the Self currently in print. I believe it's a rather misleading intro to FM Alexander's work, so I'm sharing this in the hope that I can help clear up misconceptions people may have about the Alexander Technique, not derived only from Anthony Kingsley, but many bland blog posts one tends to encounter when researching the Alexander Technique. That said, this is not intended to be an introduction of its own, but rather something experienced students, teachers, and anyone enthusiastically learning the Technique may find useful. In the tradition of Alexander himself, I've included extensive footnotes, some painfully long. I'm happy to answer any questions or otherwise discuss what I've written. Understand these are my own interpretations and opinions about what some call "the work," so take them as you will. I've taken lessons for a number of years and currently am training as a teacher, so my view of the Technique is based on these experiences, as well as my interpretations of Alexander's writings. Some of these interpretations you may object to, but I hope you find my arguments reasonable.
Response to Anthony Kingsley's Introduction to The Use of the Self
The Use of the Self may be FM Alexander's most important work, since it contains his own account of how he developed what is now called the Alexander Technique. While Alexander's other volumes are available from Mouritz, the only edition of The Use of the Self currently in print is published by Orion Spring. This edition replaces the philosopher John Dewey's introduction—which praises the technique's "genuinely scientific character"—with one by the contemporary teacher Anthony Kingsley, who is heralded on the book's front cover as a "leading Alexander Technique teacher." Therefore it is probable that many readers' first impressions of the Alexander Technique will be framed by Mr. Kingsley's opinions. I submit this is problematic, since his introduction is in my view contradictory to fundamental principles of the Alexander Technique. I write this response to address the introduction's two most dire faults: Kingsley's misrepresentation of the concepts inhibition and direction, and his dismissal of the concept of the primary control. I'll begin with the second, since it is a more straightforward error.
Primary Control
Kingsley opens his paragraphs on the primary control with the opinion that the concept should be "recast," then describes Alexander's definition of the primary control as a "particular relationship of his head, neck and back [that] acted as a master reflex that conditioned his whole organism." Then he discards this definition, claiming the head-neck-back relativity should instead be "regarded as an indicator[sic] of overall health rather than an area considered in isolation." He concedes the "region of the neck and back is a [...] barometer of our state of being," but concludes that "no single element is actually primary," since our eyes, breath, digestive system, and all other psychophysical elements are "simultaneous and interdependent" and also like barometers. Finally, he reveals his "recast" of the primary control, defining it as "the unknown and unseen self-righting and self-healing mechanism that can be restored and vitalized."
In sum, Mr. Kingsley has presented the primary control—which Alexander wrote extensively about and considered central to his technique—with an ill-defined mystical force which, accordingly, Alexander must have unwittingly stumbled upon and mistaken for a certain relativity of the head, neck and back.
Ironically, it is in The Use of the Self where Alexander wrote of discovering the necessity to first free his neck in seeking a better condition for his vocal apparatus, since that was the sine qua non of taking his head forward and up, of widening the back, and so forth, which are in turn the necessary conditions of freedom and stability in the limbs. This is the genesis of Alexander's use of the word "primary" in describing the head-neck-back relationship, and in my experience, as in Alexander's, it holds true: the sequence of directions given to oneself matters greatly, since tense feet, for example, can hardly flatten on the floor if the head is taken back and down, whereas the head can be taken "forward and up"1 to a fine degree even if there is tension in the lower extremities, particularly while sitting. Further, and maybe most significantly, the relativity of the head-neck-back rarely need change during any manner of activity, whereas the arms and legs are constantly bending, rising, stretching, and so on. Small wonder Alexander considered this relativity primary.
Of course, Kingsley is not wrong to point out the interdependence of all processes in the body. It is certainly true that undue tension in the feet creates a downward pull on the head, neck and back. Yet what is crucial to understand here is that in the context of learning and teaching the Alexander Technique, the primary control is an indispensable concept. It instructs the pupil to guide his or her attention through the body in the sequence most fit to facilitate proper relativity of all the parts, and it names succinctly that natural, visible, dynamic yet enduring relativity of the head, neck and back observable in little children and animals as well as many great musicians and athletes. Thus Kingsley discards a practical concept in favor of a truism about "interdependence;" and so we come to his second, graver error.
Direction
Here it begins to seem that what Kingsley writes of in his introduction is not the Alexander Technique at all, but in fact the Kingsley Technique, since he has redefined not only the primary control, but two other conceptual pillars of the technique: inhibition and direction.
First, he takes aim at direction, neglecting to elucidate Alexander's own definition of the concept before setting out the axiom that "aiming for postural improvements using postural directions leads to a bodymind[sic] attitude of effort and trying, which simply reinforces the problem." Dismissing as superfluous all "ideas and images about heads, necks and backs," he declares that "the trying[sic] self is the obstacle, and the shift towards a non-trying[sic] self is the solution." Finally, he offers his own definition of the directions as "the natural flow of energy and vibrancy that exists within the organism," directions which are interfered with "when we are in a condition of stress and reactivity."
Here, again, Kingsley takes a practical concept which Alexander developed based on careful observation of his own muscular action, and replaces it with a kind of mystical or spiritual phenomenon which, implicitly, only the initiated can perceive.2 Thus the famous directions are not, as Alexander described repeatedly, a series of mental orders or intentions projected to oneself before and during muscular activity along lines one has reasoned out in advance, but a "natural flow of energy and vibrancy"—just as the primary control is not, as Alexander saw it, a concrete, observable relativity of the head, neck and back, but an "unknown and unseen self-righting and self-healing mechanism." These pseudo-spiritual definitions do a massive disservice to neophyte readers, and reveal Kingsley's muddled seeing in relation to the central problem addressed by the Alexander Technique: how to shed habit and coordinate the bodymind through reasoned conception and conscious awareness.
But for a moment let us leave aside direction, since a subtler and more misleading error still lurks in Kingsley's presentation: his dismissal of conception itself. He explicitly warns that "ideas, concepts and cognitive efforts reinforce the very mental instrument that is the problem in the first place," he advises us to simply trust that "the prevention or inhibition[sic] of reaction, maintains or liberates this stream of energy [or direction] in the body."
To understand Kingsley's error, we must return to Alexander. In Man's Supreme Inheritance, Alexander sets out four stages to the "performance of any muscular action by conscious guidance and control:"
  1. The conception of the movement required;
  2. The inhibition of erroneous preconceived ideas which subconsciously suggest the manner in which the movement or series of movements should be performed;
  3. The new and conscious mental orders which will set in motion the muscular mechanism essential to the correct performance of the action;
  4. The movements (contractions and expansions) of the muscles which carry out the mental orders.
Alexander considered "conception of the movement required" the very first stage in his technique, to precede even inhibition. Thus he made clear, if indirectly, that in the context of his technique, clear conception is essential to achieving a desired end. Incidentally, this is a fact any competent artist can attest to; if a composition is not unambiguously understood and organized within one's memory, it cannot be brought to fruition. Even the most simple act, such as extending one's arm to grasp a nearby object, requires a detailed conception of distance, weight, strength, and so forth; if the object turns out to be heavier than expected, the conception of these variables and their relation to one another, and hence the muscular action, must change. This is direction in action, albeit subconscious.
Yet Kingsley belittles conception, instead leaning on concepts like "ease," "letting go" "acceptance," and the like. He is not alone in this among teachers, but in my opinion, they overlook the influence of what Alexander termed "erroneous beliefs," a concept closely related to that of "unreliable sensory appreciation." Both could be read in the spiritual lexicon alongside "letting go," etc.; but that would place their referent outside the realm of what words and concepts can describe. On the contrary, Alexander was pointing to something concrete and empirically observable: to errors of spatio-motor perception able to be observed phenomenologically and in other people's behavior; not to transcendent truths about observation itself. Thus the classic example of an Alexandrian "erroneous belief" is a person who raises their arm and believes their shoulder has remained still when it has not. The key for the pupil in this instance is to gain an accurate conception5 of their own muscular action, in reference to bodily sensations; not to simply "let go" or "do nothing."3 And this conception must come about through active tutelage—e.g. Alexander Technique lessons—or, dare I say, the way Alexander himself did it: by reasoned experimentation, conceiving hypotheses based on careful register and analysis of his own sensations, and also by watching the behavior of others. John Dewey called the technique scientific for a reason.
All of this is not to understate the importance of concepts like "release" and "effortlessness," including in the context of the Alexander Technique. Seeing more or less what is meant by them is doubtless the key to mastery of all activities, all practices, all techniques. Yet those spiritual concepts should not blot out the very concrete technique Alexander developed for improving what he called "the use of the self:" that coordination of the muscular system, achieved through conscious reason, which influences for better or worse the functioning of the whole organism.4
Inhibition
So much for direction. What about inhibition? Under the heading "Inhibition and Non-Doing," Kingsley describes Alexander's understanding of inhibition as "an artificial pause between stimulus and reaction," after which he could "give directions to himself." Then he lays down the gauntlet, stating that in the "real world […] life does not offer us the choice to inhibit:" since according to neuroscience research, "neural reactions take milliseconds and are faster than conscious thought processes." In other words, "we either react to the stimulus, or not." So, with inhibition proven impossible, Kingsley is left with no choice but to "reformulate" another of Alexander's concepts, offering us a supposedly scientifically enlightened6 view that inhibition is really "a quality of non-doing[sic] that needs to be already available in the organism before the receipt of a stimulus." This is "a way of being[sic] rather than a way of doing[sic]."
This Kingsleyan inhibition turns out to be the essence of the technique, since it is this very "condition of non-doing[sic]" the teacher is supposed to transmit, through a touch Kingsley describes as "a dance of poetry and a symphony of silence." With it, the teacher imparts a "deep sense of acceptance" by which "change emerges in the pupil."7 He goes on to compare the Alexander Technique to "Zen Buddhism, mindfulness and the philosophy of non-duality," identifying the uniqueness of the Alexander Technique in "the transmission of immediate experience." In fact, there is no Alexander Technique as such, but only inhibition:
The Chinese Tao has a concept of Wu Wei[sic], which translates as surrendering to the effortless flow of life[sic], or non-doing[sic] action. Ultimately, the Alexander Technique needs to reinvent itself and relinquish the Technique. The Alexander Teacher really teaches nothing[sic!]. But this nothing or emptiness is in fact the deepest essence of being and the fullness of life. Like grace, it drops onto us and into us when the conditions are ripe.
The problem is that Alexander's own writings indicate that inhibition is not a "quality," a "condition," or a "surrendering to the effortless flow of life." On the contrary, according to Universal Constant in Living, it is "the act of refusing to respond to the primary desire to gain an end, [which] becomes the act of responding (volitionary act) to the conscious reasoned desire to employ the means whereby that end may be gained." As clear as day: inhibition is an action in response to the stimulus of conscious desire: a conscious, continuing refusal to do a thing the way one normally does it. Alexander saw that this inhibitory act had to precede in every instance any attempt to change his habits. Everyone is well familiar with the inhibitory act. The act of not indulging an immediate desire, however small, is it. So, inhibition is not an "artificial pause," but a phenomenologically observable process within the organism, a process that can be made habitual through practice. It is no more abstract and transcendent than blinking or moving one's finger.7
Here Kingsley again takes something ordinary and concrete and makes it mystical, going so far as to "relinquish the Technique." The trouble is that there is a good reason the Alexander Technique came to be known as such. A technique is a skillful way of doing something; a mental tool; a procedure. Ways of doing can be found everywhere: techniques for dance, for romance, for healing, even for attaining nirvana or enlightenment. Each has a goal in mind and is based on what worked in the past; each resorts to concepts to explain itself; each prescribes action, or doing something a certain way. Yet Kingsley dismisses the idea of doing anything at all. Equating the Alexander Technique with "nothing," he tosses out the concepts Alexander spent decades refining, when Alexander's genius was precisely to conceive a useful, coherent way of doing things through patient observation of the phenomena he termed inhibition, direction, primary control, and the rest.
So, the technique may encompass all the acts of living, but it is still a technique. Alexander often used the term "procedure" to describe it, and I think procedure is as apt a word as any to describe the application of his technique to the acts of living. He constantly stressed the technique's sequential, stepwise nature and recorded countless practical examples of it in action, both in hypotheticals and accounts of lessons. The technique is not a metaphysics or a philosophy like non-duality; it is a practical procedure with a clear purpose: restoring
advantageous, natural relativity of the head, neck and back.
Conclusion
The technique is blindingly simple but surprisingly subtle and difficult to master; and, as far as I am aware, it is unique. Unfortunately, Kingsley is not alone in overlooking the uniqueness and subtleties of the technique in favor of spiritual truisms and platitudes. I suspect there are two main reasons for this.
The first is the tendency of serious pupils of the technique to become more open to "spirituality," both philosophically (e.g. non-duality) and in terms of sadhana (e.g. meditation, yoga, self-inquiry). Many are enthusiastic about the similarities between the Alexander Technique and, for example, mindfulness practice. It is certainly true that the technique requires the pupil to have some degree of "mindfulness," or the ability to realize when the mind has wandered; and it is also true that a few people who devote themselves to the technique come upon some of the same insights one might find in spiritual practice. Yet spiritual insight is not the purpose of the technique. In my opinion, the Alexander Technique is a relative of energy practices such as Hatha yoga, qigong, and TRE (trauma release exercises). Such techniques are often used in tandem with spiritual practices meant for the cultivation of insight, but their purpose has traditionally been preparatory and salutary, not "spiritual." One need not stray too esoteric to encounter the idea that the real goal of spirituality has nothing to do with "ways of doing." On the other hand, Qigong explicitly aims to regulate qi in the body; kundalini yoga is concerned with the flow of prana; the Alexander Technique seeks to restore the good use of the primary control. More practically, the technique teaches mental discipline, and ultimately the ability of the nervous system to regulate itself. Such a practice may lay the groundwork for spiritual realization, but it is by no means indistinguishable from it.
While there is no point speculating about Alexander's private insights, one thing can be certain: he left us a definite procedure with a practical, concrete purpose—not a transcendental one. Yet Kingsley's introduction continually implies the Alexander Technique is an essentially spiritual practice with heavenly fruit. Disparaging the core concepts that constitute the Alexander Technique, he invites us instead to simply "surrender," "let go in faith," and blindly trust that its real essence—nothing less than Wu Wei—will be transmitted through the "rare, "unconditional" touch of the teacher.
The second, more obvious reason Alexander has been so misunderstood is that he rarely wrote concisely, and in any case, recognition and conception of the primary control can never be refined through words, but only through unfamiliar sensory experiences—either reasoned out, as Alexander did, or in the hands of a good teacher. Hence there is more than a kernel of truth to Kingsley's view of the "supreme value of guidance with the hands;" yet I differ from him in that I insist the Alexander Technique cannot be divorced from intellectual understanding and, indeed, conception.
The Use of the Self and Alexander's other works certainly were not without their flaws, but at their best they illuminate concepts which are nuanced, rich, and useful when applied. Primary control, direction and inhibition are three such concepts. Whatever their flaws, Alexander's books point the way to a wonderful technique, and they deserve thoughtful, probing introductions like Dewey's—not dismissals.
1 Like many other Alexandrian terms, the concrete meaning of "forward and up" seems incredibly controversial among Alexander Technique teachers. While I conceive it roughly as freedom of the atlanto-occipital joint, the term cannot be understood in isolation from the rest of the parts—namely, from one's conception of the primary control. It seems to experience it, one must discover it, as Alexander did, or be shown it by a teacher.
2 This is not to say there are not phenomena only some people perceive.
3An overemphasis on "letting go" and the like obscures the fact that Alexander always described the technique as consisting of stages or sequential steps, which in my opinion constitute the "means whereby" he wrote of.
4 "Use of the self" is another problematic term. Related to the concept of "good form" and "good technique" among athletes and musicians, it refers essentially to coordination of the musculature along reasoned lines, which is not separate from conception of the primary control. Equal and opposite is the term "misuse," since one's idea of misuse depends on one's idea of good use. Different teachers understand the term differently. Kingsley states that "bodily tensions and distortions become fixed and reinforced as we react to the general stimuli of living." True enough. Yet he goes on to imply it is associated only with fear, anxiety and distress. Again he couples this concept to the language of contemporary spirituality, trumpeting that it "alienates us from our own true nature." This is to completely ignore the point Alexander returned to again and again in his own writing: that the use of the self is inextricably linked with conception. No doubt, tension and imbalance are very often inextricable from fear. But there may be another class of misuse: one based on misconceptions about the body, unexamined movement patterns from childhood which have little or nothing to do with manifestations of stress or emotions in the body. I suspect one may experience profound psychophysical quietude yet still tend to throw their head back and down in relation to their neck and back, especially in movement.
5Kingsley writes that the teacher's touch indicates the "negation of trying and doing within the pupil." Even a token mention of guidance viz. the relativity of the body parts is nowhere to be found. Yet in my opinion this discussion of touch is misleading, since nothing like it can be found at all in Alexander's writings. On the contrary, Alexander stressed that the teacher's role was to demonstrate manually the proper relativity of the pupil's parts, with the means whereby of the technique; not to transmit "a way of being," nor indeed enlightenment or gnosis.
6 Neuroscientific findings relating to will and volition have proliferated in recent years. They may raise fundamental questions about the nature of self and will, but in my opinion they have little to do with the Alexander Technique, no more than they do with dancing or playing an instrument. If there are really recognizable activities Alexander termed "inhibition" and "direction," then his writings are timeless, since they speak from direct observation and experiment, not philosophy about "free will" and the like.
7 In spiritual literature one encounters, almost universally, the idea that there is no "doer" of action, or no "doer" but God. Hence Kingsley is implying that Alexandrian inhibition is somehow related to this concept, which Buddha famously summarized: "Events happen, deeds are done, but there is no doer thereof." In my opinion, the Alexander Technique has nothing more to do with this than does reading, writing, or playing a game. There may be "procedures followed, but no follower thereof."

Received official diagnosis on Thursday, coming to terms with it now
After an entire life of being dismissed and my concerns invalidated, finally got diagnosed last Thursday. A man (ok, an orthopedist) really did have me twist and bend, and finally grab my rib and jiggle it to entertain the idea that it could be behind a lot of my recent years-long gastrointestinal distress. I was riding the “I was right” high until I remembered that being right didn’t really do anything about how awful I feel all of the time, and the raging bitterness about how unfair it is.
I apologize in advance if my wording both in the meme and the post itself are offensive or wrong. It’s just how I feel. I’ve been telling people in my life for the longest time that I just don’t feel WELL and that I was afraid that there was something WRONG with me. And I’ve always been told that everyone feels what I feel, that if I just try HARDER or DO THE THING or just SUCK IT UP, then all will be well.
There’s so much information out there. But I wanted to see if anyone here has any suggestions on how to manage that emotional crash post-diagnosis. How can I manage the bitterness? Is there hope that if lifestyle changes are indeed made, that I won’t feel quite so wretched all of the time? I have a 3-year-old and it kills me that more often than not I’m bed bound :/
(For those interested in more of the medical details about what finally prompted the diagnosis: have been experiencing abdominal pain in my left side, upper area all of my life. Before I gave birth in 2021, it only happened like 15-20 minutes before a bowel movement. In 2022 the pain got considerably worse. Underwent a laparoscopy to rule out endometriosis. Then I started losing weight, feeling nauseous all of the time, vomiting occasionally. In March of this year the pain morphed and now bothered me all of the time. Got bloodwork, 💩 analysis, CT scan, MRI, colonoscopy and endoscopy performed. They found 3 polyps which were not a big deal, and mild indicators of gastritis. I wasn’t sold on it, but looked into which diets I should follow for it - this caused me a lot of despair because I already eat gluten free and tree nut free. I was getting distressed trying to see if low histamine or low FODMAP or what I could do. In searching for others’ experience, I eventually read about slipping rib syndrome and I had a feeling it could be playing a role in everything)

2024.05.19 00:28 dontleavethis Are there people like Dr. K from healthy gamer for women?

Are there any self-help people like Dr. K from Healthy Gamer but geared towards women? I swear we get fed this narrative that men have it so hard, but I think both men and women have it hard. While I find Dr. K helpful, his content is extremely geared towards men and doesn't really cover the issues that have negatively affected my mental health, such as how women are devalued and lose status as they age, or the backlash against Anya Chalotra, Halle Bailey, Brie Larson, Skeptical Science (Skeptichick), or Anita Sarkeesian, who did the video game trope analysis. I see myself in these women, and seeing them get so much vitriol kind of feels like I’m getting that hatred, as well as other people like me. I hate that what I seem to think is a reasonable vision for the world gets meet with so much resistance.
Anya was the first woman I ever saw on screen who looked like me in a major fantasy role, and I hated the vitriol directed at her. Sometimes I get frustrated that men get a brilliant person who speaks to them and their woes, especially when some of them want to take away things that benefit women, people of color, etc. I also thought Bailey was a perfect choice for Ariel; she even looked "fishy" with her wide-set eyes.
I am looking for videos and help on how to heal from wounds caused by bad experiences with men, to the point where I'm kind of glad they're struggling with dating in hopes that they will change for the better. I don't know where to have these discussions, and I feel it's unfair because I've seen men finding like-minded people to discuss things in voice chat on platforms like Discord, but not for women. I've tried joining more progressive servers like Wisecrack and Some More News without success.
I also don't get much attention or value from guys like I’ve seen my pretty friends get, and I often see guys picking them over me. In my friend group, one girl gets treated so much nicer because the guys are romantically or sexually interested in her, and it got annoying enough that I stopped hanging out with them (the anti-wokeness circle jerk was a big reason why too). People like Brené Brown, Esther Perel, or Ramani Durvasula don’t speak to the personal issues I’m going through. It feels like there isn't a large audience for women like me, unlike the large following men like Dr. K, Jordan Peterson, etc., have.
I think I’m also frustrated that someone like Skeptichick doesn’t have a large following. I know there is ContraPoints, but in the video I watched, from my knowledge of philosophy, she kind of inaccurately explained a philosophy concept, so I never tuned in after that. Oh, I did want to give a shout out to OhStepCo’s "I Don’t Have Pretty Privilege and That Sucks" video because when I watched it, I thought, "Oh, I know what she is talking about." There is also Kimberlé Crenshaw, and she has been twisted and warped by the right so much that it kind of hurts to see.
I'm craving videos, communities, literally any resources providing guidance on how to protect our self-worth amid societal devaluation of women, heal from negative experiences with misogyny, build self-love aside from male validation, and overcome these uniquely gendered hurdles to our mental health.because my guy friends actually have this more than I do. Representation and uplifting voices for women in this arena feel so lacking compared to what's available for men. But I see the exact opposite. I see the rise of Trump, Tate, Peterson, Christopher Rufo etc who painted trying to uplift women as cultural Marxism and bigotry against white men. I see it painted as men can’t be men anymore and men are vilified. I feel like they get that the patriarchy does means there have been norms and behaviors harmful to women done by men (and women) without them seeing it an attack on themselves . I don’t know what to think but I don’t get the backlash. Anyways, I wish Dr. K and his team could do more content aimed towards women but I think it will not happen without alienating his main audience.

2024.05.18 19:42 presumedinnocense Who had the murdered victim's phone? Not the one in jail. Triple murders in Pembroke, KY featured on dateline "The Evil That Watches"

If you get into true crimes murder mysteries, this one takes the cake! A great synopsis of the complicated case fraught with twists and turns can be found in the Dateline episode "The Evil That Watches". Court TV also televised the entire murder trial as well. Both left me realizing there is far more to this story than meets the eye and I am now convinced that they convicted the wrong person. I fell head first into the rabbit hole.
The murders happened in 2015 and quickly the investigation focused almost entirely the on the neighbor Major Christian "Kit" Martin. A very simplistic summary of Kit's motive was to prevent his neighbor from testifying in an upcoming court marshall. Kit claimed he didn't do it, and the whole court marshall was a result of a bitter breakup with his ex-"wife" who threatened to ruin him and his career.
After years of a stalled investigation and increasing pressure from the family to solve it, in May of 2019 Detective Leonard Scott Smith presented two pieces of misleading testimony to a grand jury. That led to the arrest and indictment of Kit four years after the murders. Smith testified that the Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST) report on the cellphones showed:
  1. that Kit's phone was on Rosetown Rd the night of the murders (Rosetown was the site of the burned car which held the bodies of two of the victims). This is misleading evidence because that report only showed where the phones pinged. Because it is a rural area, there aren't a lot of cell towers to triangulate.
  2. that Kit's phone and Pam's phone were both traveling towards Ft Campbell the morning after the murders implying that as Kit drove to work he had Pam's phone with him. This was also based on the CAST report using the cell towers. A forensics specialist later did an investigation of Kit's and Pam's actual phones. When the forensic report was concluded in December of 2020, it showed the day after the murders when Kit left for work just after 9am his phone traveled south to Ft Campbell, Pam's phone was minutes earlier traveling east towards Elkton (where Joan Harmon Kit's ex-"wife" was living), then later that day towards Russellville (again opposite of where Kit's phone was). But if Pam was murdered the day before, and wasn't at the crime scene, why was her phone moving? It only seems logical that the murderer had the phone and it wasn't Kit.
The person that did the forensic testing of the phones themselves said that even looking at the CAST report data of the two phones side by side disputed that they were traveling in the same direction. Yet with these two pieces of misleading evidence that Detective Scott Smith told the grand jury, Kit was arrested and charged with the three murders. But Pam's cellphone is very important to this case. If Kit didn't have it and it wasn't at the crime scene, where was it? About a month after the murders we find out....
Pam's cell phone was turned in to the Christian County Sheriff's office December 31st, 2015 a little more than a month after the murders. The ATT store in nearby Hopkinsville, KY called 911 to report that Joan Harmon (Kit's ex"wife") brought the phone in to get it unlocked (the phone had been reset to default which will happen with that model after 10 failed password attempts). She said her son found it in her yard a few days prior.
This is significant because the prosecution claimed that after Kit set the car on fire on Rosetown Rd in the early morning of November 19th, he walked four miles back to the murder site, then took another victim's car and drove it to Elkton to throw Pam's phone in his ex "wife's" yard to frame her. If that were the case then:
  1. the phone would have been laying in the yard in the elements since the early hours of November 19th, yet Joan's son didn't "find it" until more than a month later, and
  2. Pam's phone was proven to be moving on the morning after the murders from Pembroke towards Joan's house in Elkton, yet, according to the prosecution's theory, the phone was supposed to be laying in her yard in Elkton at that time.
When Detective Scott Smith was questioned on the stand about the misleading testimony, he simply stated it was an honest mistake. What's more outrageous is that despite Joan Harmon having in her possession the phone of one of the murder victims, she was never even brought in for questioning. Joan's DNA was never even collected. In what world does that happen? The more you dig, the more unbelievable it becomes that Kit is in jail for life with no possibility of parole and Joan obviously had help.
Emilio Corsetti III just released a new book, "I Will Ruin You: The Twisted Truth Behind the Kit Martin Murder Trial" which gives much more detail to the backstory of Joan, her motives and the web of lies fabricated to convict an innocent man.

2024.05.18 19:30 Eruxscante A New Wish(Wish Movie rewrite)

Hi, I was the one who posted this https://www.reddit.com/fixingmovies/comments/1aw2ff4/wish_rewrite/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
where I spoke about the problems of wish. I actually rewrote it to my taste. It might not be for everyone. I tried to keep it to a pg rating. Asha and Star are made queer for the rewrite so I hope you don't mind. I made Star agender because he was a literal genderless star in the final movie. He also shapeshifts in the original concept. I wanted to avoid the nonhuman nonbinary trope so Star in this version is a full on human with magic power. Asha is queer because she is dating Star. Important note: I am NOT a songwriter. I have no idea how to write songs. I have a vague idea after watching many videos on song rewrites for wish but I don't have a grasp on any of the terminology they use. I don't have a music degree or any interest in songwriting. the lyrics are written to be more like poetry but with a chorus. I will fully admit some songs are probably worse than what the songwriters wrote. i change the most egregious lines and grammar and rewrote some of the songs to make more sense in the context of the story. But at the end of the day, I have no idea how to write songs. Feel free to rewrite it yourself in comments because I really have no idea what I was doing.
Character list:
Asha is hotheaded, and caring, but a bit naive. Her arc is to learn not every wish should or can be granted. She comes off as entitled due to her shelter upbringing. She doesn’t think of plans and jumps into action unless it involves her friend’s safety. She is bisexual and likes any gender that doesn't identify as female.
Magnifico= loud, charming, a bit egotistical king. He is quite blunt and believes he is always right but is very paranoid. He is the doter of the two and spoils Asha, he can’t punish her and hates yelling at her. He is over protective and have no sense of personal space. Manifico believe he is the good guy believes total control is the only way to keep his family sage.
Amaya= soft spoken, "kind", smart manipulative queen. She is a great deceiver who knows she is "evil" but don't care as she feel like she has no choice(twist villain). She is the more chill one who let Asha do her thing but is here when she need to. Amay is willing o put her foot down when Asha do something bad. Amaya knows she is the bad guy and admits to her selfish actions. She wants her family to be totally safe through control.
Star= a mischievous, shy, caring, very empathetic but is careful person. Class clown type who loves making joke but has a huge sense of empathy. Star is very cautious and won’t do anything without a plan. They will start out as shy but asha helps him make friends with Dahlia, Gabo, Sabino and Lucille. Star’s village was destroyed by a group of evil magician and he was not powerful enough to stop them. Star now travel from town to town. Star is agender who uses he/they pronouns.
Dahlia= smart, calm, good cook to Asha, straight man to asha’s antic
Gabo=snarky, hotheaded, reckless, enables asha to many reckless actions, honest
Sabino= cool, chill, well-loved grandpa figure
Lucille= a bit more reserve character, doesn’t do well with crowds but okay with friends.

2024.05.18 17:13 Rainyfriedtofu Nasdaq's rules and Clov Delisting: beating a dead horse deader

Hello Fellow Apes,
I just want to take a quick moment to revisit the Nasdaq's rules and how it would pertain to Clover Healthcare's delisting procedure. I want to do this for two reasons: 1) I want to get ahead of the short sellers' FUD thesis, and 2) I want to revisit the post I made a month ago called "Nasdaq's rules and procedures pertaining to Clover Health." https://www.reddit.com/Healthcare_Anon/comments/1bx2eeg/nasdaqs_rules_and_procedures_pertaining_to_clove
Currently, retail short sellers do not have a basis to spread FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) about Clover Health (CLOV). Additionally, my recent post has highlighted the coordinated efforts to short the stock and brought attention to the fact that a group of us has been reporting activities on the Clover Health subreddit to the SEC and Clover's Investor Relations.
https://www.reddit.com/Healthcare_Anon/comments/1ctvrx7/clov_as_a_meme_clovs_reddit_and_andrews_recent/
In short, our filings with these entities revealed a high correlation (R = 0.97 with a P-value of 0.001) between the "dog whistle" share price and the actual share price of the stock after running statistical tests. Our dataset covered several months. An R value of 0.97 in a correlation test indicates a very strong positive linear relationship between the two variables.
Additionally, contrasting this with the recent meme stock frenzy fueled by figures like Roaring Kitty and Ryan Cohen, hundreds of thousands of people have lost substantial amounts of money due to the activities of retail short sellers. Unlike institutional traders, there are currently no sufficient laws or enforcement mechanisms to regulate these retail short sellers. This lack of oversight prompted us to start documenting and collecting data on Clover Health (CLOV). Our goal is to contribute to the end to such predatory market manipulation behaviors. Companies such as AMC and GME are doomed to fail. However, the case with Clov is different because the company is profitable, sustainable, and gearing up to expand and address the changes to healthcare.
https://www.cnbc.com/2024/05/17/gamestop-shares-fall-after-it-files-to-sell-securities-says-first-quarter-sales-declined.html
I know what you guys are thinking, "Why are you bringing this up again?" Do you guys remember one of the procedures for Nasdaq's delisting that I wrote a month ago?
"When a company listed on the Nasdaq stock market receives a notice of noncompliance, it means that the company has failed to meet one or more of the Nasdaq's listing requirements. The timeline for potential delisting following a noncompliance notice varies depending on the specific rule that has been violated. Generally, companies are given a compliance period during which they can regain compliance with the Nasdaq's listing standards. This period can range from 30 days to 180 days, or sometimes even longer, especially if the company decides to appeal against the delisting decision or if the noncompliance is related to financial or reporting issues which have specific cure periods.
After the compliance period ends, if the company has not regained compliance or has not made satisfactory progress towards compliance, as determined by the Nasdaq, the exchange may issue a delisting notice. The company can appeal this decision, which may further extend the process. Currently, Clov has several good reasons and evidence to further extend the process. However, I cannot speak on this because of two reasons:
  1. It's uncertain whether Clover Health's Investor Relations (IR) team will instruct their legal team to formally present their reasons for noncompliance to Nasdaq. They have legitimate reasons, including being targeted by retail short sellers, but I'll not delve into those details in this post.
  2. Considering Clover Health's financial situation, as evidenced by their 10-K reports and their operational runway, it's possible they may not need to utilize the full 180-day grace period before appealing Nasdaq's notice. Moocao plans to conduct a detailed analysis (DD) of their financial statements, which suggest the company is in a strong position. The launch of their Software as a Service (SaaS) platform and the anticipation of approximately $100 million in revenue could potentially disrupt the strategies of retail short sellers, possibly leading to their financial downturn. However, the outcome of the first quarter's earnings report (Q1 ER) remains to be seen, presenting Clover Health with two potential paths forward. I'm only speculating SaaS contracts because why would you hire SaaS staff, request to generate more shares to pay those staff, and not have work or activities for them to do right now? This is a lot of money to spend on something that have no contracts. Therefore, I speculate they will announce their SaaS the same way that they announced their home care last year."
Looking at the current situation, Clover Health has ample time to comply with Nasdaq's regulations for several key reasons--almost unlimited:
  1. Strong Financial Health: The company is performing exceptionally well and is far from facing bankruptcy. Despite this, short sellers have excessively shorted the stock, pushing it to levels suggesting financial distress, and they have coordinated efforts to sway public sentiment negatively. https://www.reddit.com/Healthcare_Anon/comments/1cp786f/clover_q1_2024_earnings_analysis_earnings_call10q/
  2. Proactive Measures: Clover Health is actively working to enhance shareholder value, including implementing a share buyback program.
  3. Prepared for Appeals: We have already prepared the necessary reports for Clover Health to file an appeal with Nasdaq, should it fail to meet compliance standards within 180 days. However, given the company's current trajectory, it's unlikely that an appeal will be necessary as we anticipate Clover Health will regain compliance soon.
It's important to note that the likelihood of Clover Health facing delisting or needing to perform a reverse stock split is minimal. In a somewhat ironic twist, we owe a debt of gratitude to the retail short sellers. Their consistent manipulation of the stock has inadvertently provided crucial evidence. If they hadn't driven the stock price below bankruptcy levels and engaged in aggressive trading strategies against market-making algorithms, we might not have identified key areas to focus on. As the saying goes, sometimes not getting what you want can indeed be a blessing.
I'll provide a more detailed write-up later, but for now, I wanted to reassure you that the potential for Clover Health's delisting or reverse stock split is very low. The delisting and reverse stock split are the only kind of theses I anticipate the brigades can make. Otherwise, the only thing that they have are memes.

And for that, I would like to thank the authors, the publishers - BOOM! Studios, and NetGalley for making it readily available. Oh, and how can I forget? My deepest of thanks to 'Mr. John Wick' himself!
So then, what really is 'BRZRKR' all about?
'BRZRKR: Bloodlines' is the first volume of the series which collects two stories - 'Poetry of Madness' and 'Fallen Empire'. Both of these stories shed a light on the life and times of the immortal, carnage-loving warrior known as the Berserker (portrayed by Keanu Reeves himself). Here's a quick summary, along with the pros and cons for each:
Welcome to Atlantis! A kingdom like no other, Atlantis is full of wealth and prosperity under the rule of King Azaes the Kind. But naturally, enemies want to take over the rich kingdom and have it all for themselves. But Atlantis and its people have nothing to worry or fear about. The King's Guard is there to protect them. And oh, if you didn't already know, the Guard is not consisted of "they", but just one person, and one person only...
For Atlantis’s true legend isn’t in its spires or its riches… but in the demi-god who protects them.
Behold!! Poseidon’s pet demon! The tip of the trident! The hope slayer! Unute, the Berserker!!!
Yep, it's the one and only 'John Wick' aka Keanu Reeves himself as Unute, the Berserker!
The opening sequence sets the tone for what this series is going to be about (at least for most parts in my opinion anyways) - blood, gore, and total CARNAGE! The present attacking enemy forces don't even stand a chance against the Berserker as he makes light work of them all, slashing and cutting them down to pieces one by one (almost quite literally!). And just like that, Atlantis is unharmed yet again, thanks to 'John Wi...', uh, I meant the Berserker. Unute, who is physically messed up himself and covered in gore, is paraded through the city as a hero. Not to worry one bit though, as he is an immortal demi-god (if you hadn't figured it out already) … who also has healing powers (not surprised to be honest, no?).
The story is narrated in the first person POV of Zubatai, a loyal servant to the beloved monarch of Atlantis, King Azaes the Kind. Not only that, she is also the honored chronicler and squire to the King’s personal guard, the royal protector of Atlantis - Unute himself. Her master, the Berserker, has only one true need that must forever be met… CARNAGE. Oh, and he absolutely LOVES carnage. And as Zubatai mentions -
The people want their gore.
And they all, including us fellow readers, are gonna get plenty of it right here!
The king is behaving a bit strange lately, and Vizane, the wizard priest, has something nasty and evil up his sleeves... And suddenly, one fine day, Atlantis is thrown into total chaos, destruction, and death when an unspeakable and equally unimaginable horror is unleashed. Can Zubatai and her master, Unute the Berserker, save the city and its people before it's too late?
This time, we start off "many centuries ago" (presumably in the context to the events of 'Poetry of Madness') at a desert kingdom named Olos. The king is anything but kind (unlike the one from the first story). He is ruthless and hungry for power, with a sense of madness about him, and will do anything to crush his enemies. But onto his land, one day, steps foot a person who is not human...
The Berserker is here, and Olos is thrown into turmoil as the immortal's thirst for carnage seems to be never-ending. The queen, who is hiding secrets including her own dark past, sets out to carry on with a plan that will set in motion nothing but death and destruction of the highest of orders for Olos and beyond.
Narrated by the first person POV of a mysterious woman who has been the witness of the Berserker's journey and carnage firsthand, this tale depicts a range of emotions with an underlying aspect of sadness and grief... and what ultimately happens when the "rage for carnage" takes over...
What was great about it?
What didn't hit the mark?
Other info.
Final thoughts
Overall, if you are looking for a fun and enjoyable start to a series featuring an immortal being who loves carnage, then this just might be what you are looking for. With no shortage of blood, gore, action, drama, and a decent amount of "steamy" stuff throughout, 'BRZRKR: Bloodlines' (Volume #1) pulls no punches in delivering the aforementioned elements. The plot aspect could have been done better in my opinion, but nonetheless, this was a pretty good enough read altogether.
Rating: - 7/10 (A fun read)
