2015.06.03 06:16 Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity

Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity is an officially recognized disability in Sweden (this is not recognized as an illness because no diagnosis exists for this condition).” Professor Johansson gave the example of a head ache “ how can one measure the pain or prove the existence of a head ache?” Sweden ranks in the top 10 in the world for healthcare. Magnetic Flux poses the largest threat to individuals with EMHS.

2024.05.29 04:29 OneFish2Fish3 Thoughts on this "science" video?

https://youtu.be/DmRWHdJwtGw?si=kGHsqmZyGV2Wdnej
I usually quite like SciShow, but they kinda dropped the ball on this video (they, as well as the rest of CrashCourse, tend to be very "woke" at times, I think they even had a video years ago saying calling your girlfriend "baby" is bad because it causes women to think of themselves as "babies"/submissive/childlike... which is not only ridiculous on the face of it but it of course conveniently excludes the fact that almost an equal proportion of men are called "baby" by their SOs)... first of all, are you seriously telling me that trans people (which they of course lumped in with NB people) are three percent of the population now? That would mean *checks notes* that transsexualism has increased by a factor of ten (or possibly more, depending on the prevalence studies) just in recent years! You can't tell me with a straight face that it makes any scientific sense that a relatively uncommon medical condition, that for all we know is not caused by environmental factors (of course there are likely environmental factors e.g. maternal conditions that cause testosterone/estrogen exposure in the womb, but none that would cause a rapid increase) that have increased in recent years, would suddenly, organically increase by 10x in a matter of years for no apparent reason? That would make it go from about as common as sickle cell anemia is in the black population (I only mention race because that particular condition mostly affects black people) to 3X as common as OCD is in the general population. I use those examples to illustrate the difference between something somewhat uncommon/lesser-known to something extremely common.
Second of all, even if that were the case, wouldn't that be ummm... extremely concerning considering how horrible dysphoria can be and how hard life is for transsexuals (instead of something to celebrate, as it's portrayed here)? I mean imagine if cerebral palsy, a condition (which I have a very mild form of) that also occurs in about 3/1000 people, suddenly climbed to 3%! I know it's not quite the same thing as about 2/3rds of cases of CP are caused by environmental brain damage sustained before, during, or after birth (the rest are cases where the baby has a preexisting genetic condition that either causes brain malformation in utero or causes brain damage as a secondary result of the condition), so it is largely caused by environmental factors and a tenfold increase, though very unlikely, would be entirely possible given the right circumstances, but my point is it would be extremely concerning.
(Granted, again it's different because CP is a wide spectrum and it can be much more disabling even than transsexualism, considering in its most extreme form you practically can't move or verbally communicate at all, are completely dependent on assistance with everyday life due to not being able to physically do anything, and deal with extreme medical issues/probably a great deal of physical pain/hardship, not to mention in all forms/severities there's the common neurological comorbidities of epilepsy/seizure disorders (30-50% depending on the subtype), IDD (30-50% depending on the study), learning disabilities in people without IDD, behavioral problems/mental illness, ASD, ADHD, and visual and/or hearing impairments - most of which are secondarily caused by aforementioned brain damage/birth circumstances/genetic conditions. My point is that the two are not the same (I'm luckily so mildly affected by CP/comorbidities that as annoying as having them are, it's WAY better than being transsexual, but I'm sure that many with more severe CP/related issues would have good reason to disagree), but it would be practically an emergency in the disability world if such a condition, even just the mild/moderate cases, were to increase like that. It would not be cause for celebration. But I digress- sorry this is a "special interest" of mine.)
Now I know what you're going to say - this tenfold increase/statistic they used in the video is probably technically correct in only one sense: about 3% (or more in many cases: in my super-"woke" area according to many well-established surveys, 50% of Gen Z residents "identify" as trans, the vast majority of them being NB of course!) of the world population now "identifies" as trans, AKA just says they are trans in a survey without any diagnosis of gender dysphoria or medical (or even social) transition to back it up. However, of course as we all know that's complete bullshit, especially since they group transsexuals in with "transmasc"/"transfemme" posers, NB people, and other such trenders. I mean why would NB people even need HRT anyway?
The whole confusing thing is that the woman in the video (who claims to be trans as well of course; I mean she could technically be an EXTREMELY well-passing trans woman, but based on her appearance/voice I doubt that's likely, she's more likely a "transmasc"/female NB because she by all appearances looks like a full-ass cis woman) emphasizes the importance of trans healthcare being life-saving (or as she puts it, "accepting and affirming", which of course is total bullshit too, HRT didn't save my life because I felt more "accepted" or "affirmed", it was because my body actually started matching my brain), which is at least true, yet wants to declassify GD as a DSM/ICD diagnosis or even a medical condition at all (like most tucutes). (I kinda understand people not wanting it to be a DSM diagnosis because it isn't a mental illness, but people don't realize that the DSM isn't just mental illnesses/related disorders. It also includes conditions like Tourette's, which is almost purely neurological/neurodevelopmental (I say "almost" because I have 2 family members with Tourette's and they've both testified that there's also a large OCD-like component to it as well) and is largely established to be genetic/hereditary, ASD which is obviously neurodevelopmental, strictly genetic/neurological conditions like narcolepsy (although from my understanding, emotions can trigger narcolepsy episodes) and even obstructive sleep apnea, which is very much physiological, with the only mental/behavioral aspect being is that it can greatly affect mood/general behavior due to stress/tiredness. All that said, I DO think GD has a place in the DSM because it is very clearly neurodevelopmental and it is technically a brain condition with mental health aspects (e.g. depression/anxiety due to dysphoria). However, I wouldn't sweat it if it were removed. I understand the arguments for either decision. The ICD, on the other hand, is a compendium of ALL medical conditions and so GD definitely deserves to be there, regardless of whether it's understood as neurological or purely physiological/similar to intersex (which of course tucutes are now saying isn't a medical condition either) in nature. The ICD also being a "gold standard" of medical classification/reference for treatment in most countries is very vital because if GD is not on there, then how THE FUCK are doctors even going to prescribe HRT/surgery for it?) I mean, if you want trans people to get HRT/surgery, then how else do you want to classify GD? What other demographic classification would you use for something that requires... IDK... medical treatment? It's not like someone gets medical treatment for being bisexual, Vietnamese, or Christian.
IDK, I know this was a (very) long and probably unnecessary screed but I'm sick of seeing "scientific" resources post absolute inane bullshit like this that only spreads misconceptions about transsexualism. I understand the majority of the video was about how HRT works but I'm sick of every trans-related video, even ones focusing on medical aspects of transition, espousing tucute idiocy. LMK what you think or if I'm overreacting.

2024.05.29 03:52 autumn2493 Lump on upper inner eyelids, what is it?

Age: 30
Sex: Female
Height: 5'6
Weight: 130 lbs
Race: Caucasian
Duration: right eye one month, left eye 2-3 days
Past medication: Tobradex for 1 week, did nothing.
Attempted fix: warm compress 4x daily. Lasted a week and no changes.
Photo: https://i.redd.it/2l782b9eq7yc1.jpeg
Concern: My right eye developed a lump on the upper inner eyelid about a month ago. I went to a GP who prescribed antibiotics, and referred me to an eye doctor. Appointment is coming in a couple weeks.
The lump itself is painless, and has been painless the entire time unlike what I imagine a stye would be. It doesn't feel hard like I would expect a chalazion to be like.
Within the past 2 days, my left eye started bothering me (in a "I have something in my eye" kind of way). I just checked, and I now have a mirror image lump on my left eyelid as well. No pain, just feels like something is in my eye. This developed after I had finished the antibiotics, and after I had given up on the warm compresses.
So what could it be?

2024.05.29 03:09 user010011011 17M, Basketball injury resulting in - Grade 2 ankle sprain.

Good Evening,
I'd like to start off by mentioning that I am a 17 year old man, white, 190cm in height - 6"2' almost 6"3', weighing around 60 kg - 120 pounds. I currently live in Europe, precisely - Poland. I do not drink or smoke, no medication outside of the pills that I got prescribed by the doctor who I have visited about this issue.
The root of this issue:
On Wednesday - 22nd of May, I was playing pick up basketball with a couple of friends. This activity was all fun and games until I jumped for a rebound, trying to get the ball for my team from the air, which resulted in me falling on the wrong side of my foot. I would also like to mention that I have rolled my ankle twice before, which was never this severe. 30 minutes after the injury, my mom took me to the ER. I did an x-ray and the doctor told me to not put any pressure or weight on the foot (no walking), and wearing a Walker Boot. I was also prescribed Neoparin - 10 anticoagulant injections, taken daily. We were told that we should schedule another visit 2 days after, once the swelling had shrunk. On the second visit, the doctor examined my foot and determined that the injury is a grade 2 ankle sprain. I was prescribed 2 weeks of no pressure along with still wearing the walker boot, keep doing the injections, along with 2 new medicine - Cyclo3Fort and Reparil. I was also instructed to use the RICE method - Rest Ice Compress Elevate, keeping my foot above my butt, icing my foot every 2 hours for 15 minutes and treating the walker boot like a cast, only taking it off when I shower.
After the first visit in the ER, I took the advice lightly - I wore the walker boot for a long time during the day but I didn't really pay attention to how long my foot was supposed to be in it. I kept my foot elevated for most of the day but I also did not really care that much about it. I didn't ice my foot at all because I found research that icing actually makes the healing process longer.
After the second visit, I really listened to the words of the doctor. I am keeping my foot elevated 95% of the day, I ice every 2-3 hours for 15 minutes. I have my walker boot on also 95% of the day. I also take all of the medicine as im supposed to.
What really worries me is that since I have been doing what my doctor told me to (2 days ago), I get this excruciating pain in my foot and my leg whenever I don't keep my foot elevated. This made showering impossible, going to the toilet and relieving myself really hard - also met with excruciating pain (7/10 on a pain scale) - it honestly feels like if I was getting constantly bitten by a dog. Daily activities like making my breakfast - even simple cereal with milk, are insanely hard to do, with my foot constantly hurting when it's not elevated.
The plus of this is that the swelling that was HUGE, is now moderate. Compared to day 1 it is 80% gone, and even comparing to yesterday - it got better.
I was instructed to keep doing this for 2 weeks - until the time of my next checkup. Surviving like this, until then and even going there seems IMPOSSIBLE.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review and help me with this issue. I also want to say sorry for any bad instances of my use of the english language.
Hope everyone has a great day.

2024.05.29 02:58 OkSun6251 So done with this whole thing.

I’m just losing it. I’ve failed so many times but never gotten below a 73. I’m 3/4 and needed REG after already failing once and once again fail.
I’ve already ended up having a mental breakdown a year ago that landed me in the hospital and I’m just losing it. I fucking hate accounting. I fucking hate these exams and how much money and time I’ve spent on them for these outcomes. I never should have started taking them but here I am and I’d rather be dead than end on this note. No, it’s not worth it. Anyone who needs to make themselves feel better for the thousands of dollars and years of youth they’ve wasted on these, congrats. But if you cannot pass them all on a first try, it’s probably a fucking waste of your time and something you’ll regret on your deathbed.
I’m pretty sure I have attention difficulties like anyone else but all I’ve ever been prescribed is anti depressants when telling doctors about it which has had no benefits.
I feel like this whole entire thing is a scam. They’ve taken sooo much of my money because of a fucking 73 or 74, it was all entirely random. No matter how much more prepared I felt, same results.
I’m even more angered now that I had to wait several months to get a failing score and I’d have to start relearning everything from scratch. It feels like a bunch of boomers at nasba are trying to screw me over and run me dry and poor all so they can pride themselves on a hard certification that no one wants to get anymore. Good job Nasba. Thanks for wasting months of my life. Literally no other exam makes you wait this long for scores. None of my family gets why I can’t retake the exams multiple times while waiting on scores, no because this whole system is so fucking stupid

2024.05.29 02:35 Dejavui I am desperate

!! Long Post !!
Hi 30Male, English is not my first language.
I want to share my story first to put you in the picture.
I believe i had anxiety from early age of my life,as a kid i used skin pick my both feet up to the point they start bleeding and i would not be able to walk on them, i will let them heal and start on my hair i did that while watching TV unconsciously it stopped after i start to go school.
In school i did amazing and was a smart kid also i had my fair share of bullying about my height and my face, it didn’t stop me from achieving great grades and do the morning presentation in front of the whole school every morning.
Fast forward when i turned 18 i went to the university and entered Engineering college it was my dream and i was extremely happy, it is then when thing turned upside down, i am sweaty person by default and got alot more worse when i started college ( i recently just found a solution for that ) and turned from a person who can speak on front of the people to someone else.
My first semester i got straight A+, the second semester i failed in two subjects, my hair started to fall like crazy and i turned bald at 20 i believe it is from the anxiety.
On the 3rd year while we were in class a teacher told to me to stand up and read a paragraph in front of the class, i think you all know what happened! I went and stood there with my head down and started to read ( it is painful and i am crying while typing this ) my body started to shake and turned into furnace and then i saw sweat dropping on the paper i am reading and realized i am f***** i raised my head and saw the teacher was shocked and the student were all staring like what is wrong with him! I then knew that i lost everything, after this incident i went on huge depression episode quitted all my friendships and isolated my self, started smoking and skipped classes and didn’t participate in any social form what so ever, then went to therapist and he prescribed me three medication i took them and saw no improvement and then stopped ( i think i didn’t give them enough time ) i was on rush to gain my life back.
Before we graduated we have to perform a presentation for our graduation project and another one for our college training, i knew of this too late because i was not focusing on my studies, before the first one i went back to my doctor i told him if i didn’t get this degree i will loose my purpose in life i don’t what will happen it is my dream! And i have 14 days before the first one, i took the medications immediately and did terrible at the first one And the second .
I managed to graduate, and then started to look for jobs and i failed at each and every interview i had, from not receiving a response to receiving comments while been interviewed such as “ did you run before you came here ? “ “ why haven’t you worked till now ? “ .
I stopped doing anything in life for years and lost purpose and felt like this is my life going to be like, later life started to came back to me and hope.
I started to look for jobs again with hope to have one and every time i have an interview i immediately will loose hope and panic and remember how i did in the previous ones which leads me to apologize from the interviews.
If you have advice for me please help how to gain my confidence back please share it with me.
I am considering on taking ashwagandha as i read in this community there have been great success, if you tried something else please share it, other than SSRi i have tried them they are good put they make me sweat even more than i already do.
Thank you all so much 🙏

Seasonal Allergies Immunotherapy
Hi I’m planning on applying for OCS when I graduate in May. But im currently taking allergy shots for my seasonal allergies. I would have no problem pausing them during basic etc. Resuming when I’m past training, but is this something I have to do? Is it worth having to get a medical waiver for it? Do I need to tell my recruiter?

Currently in the process of reenlisting as a prior service who was chaptered out in AIT for SI. Submitted and turned over all my paperwork to my recruiter and awaiting MEPS. My recruiter said this is the longest part of the waiting game from his experience. How long should I be expecting to wait realistically? I would ask my recruiter but I feel like I've bothered him enough over the past few weeks lmao. - Thanks!

Army National Guard recruiter says at MEPS you can choose from several dates to start basic. Is that accurate?
If so, typically how many dates are there to choose from and how far in the future? I have a great civilian job, so would like to know my date as far in advance as possible.
Edit: would go on to traditional state OCS (yea, I know the internet’s opinions on it but it fits my life really well) afterwards.

I've got 4 years active and 3 years guard under my belt and I've always put in to my tsp to get the match. I know you need 8 years to keep the matching, but my unit has drained what little motivation I had left for the army, and I've decided I'm done. I'm curious if anyone can help me figure out if there's any option that will help me keep my tsp matching besides a 1 year extension. I doubt the IRR counts towards 8 years, and from what I understand, the inactive guard is simply a pause button. So instead of pushing me to 8 years, it's just delaying my 7th till next year or something. I'm also wondering if a future federal job would contribute to that 8 years or if it has to be all concurrent. Thank you for any help or any resources or links yall can send me to figure this out.

I was wondering if I could join the army with depression, anxiety, and OCD. All diagnosed. I have no suicide attempts or anything like that, no inpatient care either. All of these are somewhat mild and manageable, and I haven't been on any medication. But that was another concern of mine, if I was to get on any medication, would that disqualify me? Thanks a lot.

I had to get a full medical Record for meps then they wanted my pharmacy record and now they want some more records my recruiter made me sign a form for my old doctors to get it from them about a month and a week ago. I called him the earlier this week and he said he Kentucky or Kansas (I didn’t hear him well and forgot) doing some training I honestly just don’t know what to do I’ll graduate from high school in a few weeks and I probably have a month after that before my parents kick me out any advice?

Hey all, I wanted to get some insight on whether you all think I would be able to enlist with Crohn's. I've seen online that it's generally marked as an "unwaivable medical condition" but sometimes goes on a case by case basis. My IBD is very mild, I honestly forget that I even have the damn disease because it doesnt effect my daily life at all. I have it managed by taking an 8-week biologic but have gone on extended breaks from it before due to insurance reasons (roughly 2-3 months without any meds) and had no flare ups or any issues of the sort. However, my doctor is thinking of switching me to a daily pill (Rinvoq). I don't have any food sensitivities like a lot of Crohn's patients have (caffeine, alcohol, dairy, etc.) and have never had any surgeries nor does my GI doctor think i'll ever need one. I wanted to enlist for a 17C contract as im already in college for tech anyhow, I'm not sure if that would effect my standing. However, dream MOS is 18X but I figure that may be tougher to get by a recruiter. Any advice or thoughts? Army has been my dream forever and I don't want to have to give it up, so I'd really do anything haha.

I have read a few horror stories where someone enlisted with X,Y, or Z in their contract, but after basic they where told something else and could not confirm the original. For example, someone claims they had a specific location through Option 19, only to later be told they are going somewhere else.
My first question is: has this happened to anyone here, and if so and how was it resolved?
My second question is: after signing your contract, how do you gain acess to it later? Do you receive a physical copy for yourself? Can you download a copy? Is there someone you can ask in the Army to retrieve it for you? Will it be acessable on a portal of somekind?
I am considering enlisting with option 19 and the location is very important to me. Thank you!

Is a bonus worth choosing the Army over the AF?
In general, I’ve heard that the army’s QoL is less than that of the Air Force. However, the army has way more jobs w bonuses that I’d be interested in. And it’s the same or similar jobs as the Air Force, but w a bonus. I know the Basic Training for army is also longer, but a bonus can be convincing. I have the same question, but in regards to joining the navy as well. I want to focus on my education during my enlistment & get my bachelors & id also like travel opportunities. I haven’t taken my ASVAB yet, it’s scheduled the 16th. I scored rlly well on the PiCAT, and according to those scores I qualify for some army jobs w a bonus. I know it’s not as simple as that, and it’s a whole process & based on what’s available. Just want some opinions on if I was offered an army job w a bonus as opposed to the same/ similar Air Force job without, would you consider it worth it based on your experience?
I already got some answers from a post I made about this, but moderator deleted it and said to comment here. But any additional info/ insight is greatly appreciated. I want to make the best choice for my future in the case that I don't want to do 20 years.

I could have sworn I read (albeit a while ago) that business rules did not apply to GNPS, so I should be free to pick my MOS. They did a spinal tap and never found any trace of the disease however. I was in the hospital for a couple of days, the gave me immunoglobulin and then I went home and nothing ever came of it. I am currently completely asymptomatic This was when I was 12 or 13 years old. Now I’m 18 and want to join but my recruiter said I have to get all the records and stuff. What is the chance that I will still be able to join? I tried looking it up online but I couldn’t find an answer. Also if I’m able to join, will I need a medical waiver?

I want to do something that’s “high speed” and meaningful while working my way towards Ranger reg. Is the 82nd Airborne a good pathway to that? How is civil affairs? Can you enlist directly into it while being active duty?

Hi everyone! I’m a high school student planning on joining the military. I’m Muslim, so I want to be sure that whichever branch I join is accommodating to Muslim needs. If it changes anything, I’m planning joining through the ROTC route.
My main concerns are, does the Army give beard waivers for Muslims? Is it possible to take short breaks throughout the day to pray? Can you fast during Ramadan? Can you be provided with halal (no pork/no alcohol) food?
Also, I’m interested in infantry or armor (or any kind of ground forces officer in general). Would these accommodations interfere with being selected for these careers or being mission ready? (Such as a beard, fasting, etc.)

So my recruiter told me that I have to get a lease first, but the thing is, is that we don't have one with our landlord. It's more like an oral lease and he's a slumlord who never tries to communicate with any of us. That being said, my recruiter then said that I should find a lease online and edit it to where I state that I'm paying the rent to my sister instead (who has a valid ID) He also stated that my sister and I have to go to a check-cashing place to get it notarized. Is this all ok to do and will the BHA be approved? Also if it's approved, does this mean that the rent we pay which is $1,365.50, is going to be paid for while I'm away and how exactly??

Questions about Virginia National Guard
I want to do OCS! Now here’s my confusion. My recruiter is saying that the moment I swear in is the moment my contract is going to start and will count towards that 6 year! So, if he is right, I will basically complete 2 years training if I do state OCS. But I would like to have more control on what branch I get! My top 3 are: cyber warfare, signal, and intel. Should I do accelerated in that case? Also how likely am I to get one of those aforementioned three if I do state OCS of 18 months? My bachelor was in Computer Engineering, and I am currently enrolled in ASU for master’s pursuing Computer Science! Will I get that 24k a year tuition fee because he said there’s a possibility I might get it since it’s fully online? Can I get tuition assistance and loan repayment both? Does getting either one incur additional service time?

So my husband is going to meps next week. he has 2 different sets of scars on his left arm. He works at a mobile home plant building houses. One was from when he got caught on a nail so it's a little deeper looking and another was from some sheet metal at work. He didn't disclose it to his boss because he works on a line and it would've put his team behind so he just put some bandaids on it and went about his day and cleaned it up when he got home. This was about 1-2 years ago. What is his meps experience going to be like? They aren't self harm obviously but we've heard horror stories about the doctors at meps not believing people and DQ them. He honestly forgot about telling his recruiter and his recruiter has already sent in all his medical history and got him scheduled for meps. Should he still go ahead and tell his recruiter or just wait and disclose it at meps?

I'm currently in process Enlisting in the Reserve, while holding an associate's degree in mechanical engineering technology, with some side education in programming. While I am working towards my bachelor's degree, I'm looking to pick an MOS that will help my career, or at the very least, be interesting. I don't remember my scores, but my Recruiter told me whatever I pick, my score won't be the limiting factor.
Top of the list for career jobs is 15 series, from what I've heard from currently enlisted in my friend group, wrenching on aircraft in general is a fast track to a cushy job on the outside with my education. 25 series looks boring but useful as anything IT/electrical complements my degree. On the more interesting side, I was looking at 91 series, either 91F or 91P.
Am I going anywhere wrong with any of these jobs? Anything I should be keeping in mind?

25D or 35T I just wonder which MOS would be better for career. I am really interested in IT. I know 25D is not entry MOS. Let’s say you meet requirements for both MOS. If you stay as enlisted side, what would you recommend?

Hi all,
I am a permanent resident here is the US, and last week I finished my ASVAB mock test with a 95 on my AFQT. The recruiter says I am eligible for everything that doesn't require a security clearance which is kind of a problem as my dream MOS are the 35-series and 17-series (As both of these are locked behind clearance requirement)
After some thinking, I narrow down to the following, but there are still too many so I hope I can get your feedback on what I am doing. My aims are: a/I want something that will translate into the civilian world well if my time in the army doesn't go well, b/I want an MOS that can advanced through warrant or becoming a commission officer if my time in the army does go well, and c/I want to push myself to the limit and break out of my comfort zone to see where I can go. If I sound arrogant, please forgive for that: I am just trying to be as careful as possible. I am nearly reaching my thirty, and I want to take deliberate steps because I no longer have the luxury of youth and family to try and fail.
The MOS are:
11-series, 12B and 12D: I have a soft spot for these despite knowing they don't translate into the civilian world. But in my heart somewhere is a wild child that wants to test my physical prowess and wants to blow things up. I do know my knees and lower back will hate me for picking this.
15 series: With exceptions to 15C, 15J, and other works related to flying or being mechanics of sensitive equipment, I can be an aircraft technicians. I read that there are demands for airplane mechanics but I don't know much about this field other than a/I got to repair planes, b/people seem to hate it because you have to sign a long contract if you become a warrant.
68A: I did see this MOS getting recommended a lot but after reading its description, I am not very sure if I want to do it either both in the army or afterwards. I must also admit I don't have a good insights onto the day to day life of this job. Can someone shed some light about this MOS for me?
68C: Becoming a nurse seems like a very safe choice out of the military given that the BLS projects nurse to be in high demand and being able to take care of your family sounds like a big plus to me; however, I don't know if I like being a nurse. My parents were doctors, and having seen the hospital environment I can say I am not a fan. I also look into 68A but BLS prospect for it didn't seem good, and the training on 68E, 68D, and 68V look a little bit too short. Do you really become a dental assistant just with 10 weeks of training?
68W: I must admit, I have a soft spot for 68W as it allows me to be both learn some medical skills and be on the field. However, I do notice that 68W only translates to paramedic/EMT post-army, while 68C translates to becoming a nurse (which is more valued and regarded as "better" than paramedic or EMT and thus in higher demand)
88H, 92A, 92F, and 92Y: I pick these because, according to BLS, there is a projected increase need for people in warehousing and transportation. From my limited understanding of the fields, you will be in charge of handling logistics such as maintaining unit inventory, ordering supplies and weapons for your units, etc. but I am not very sure on the difference between, say, 92Y and 92A.
So, can you give me a suggestions? May anyone who has been in these MOS share their experience to help me pick? What are some of the MOS I miss?
Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,

How can i improve my chances of success after the military?
I'm going to meps in 2 weeks and im shooting for a 25 series mos. 25H was what was available at the recruiters after i took my practice asvab. I'm not the brightest bulb but, hey, I'll take it. Aside from college ,which i want to continue to pursue throughout my time in the army (or after depending on my mental fortitude once i'm actually in,) how can i set myself up for success in the civilian world? Any input from past 25h or 25 series who somehow translated their career into decent paying jobs will be much appreciated.
I'll add I'm only joining the army for the college benefits and free training as i come from a poor household and have no other feasible way to pay for it.

Hello everyone,
I was recently laid off from a $64k job, and honestly, I'm not too upset. I was already feeling burnt out and unhappy, staying primarily for the promised educational benefits to facilitate a career change, which obviously fell through with the job loss. Now, I'm considering my options and the military as a new path has been sounding appealing to an extent. The VA loan and GI Bill are particularly enticing because they would help me pursue a degree without getting into debt, and enabling the career change I've been considering. And the thought of being able to buy a house at this age/economy seems awesome.
At 28, I'm weighing the implications of joining now, especially considering the pay cut and spending four years AD without the guarantee of going overseas which for me would make it much more worthwhile. Also, I'd likely be one of the older members among younger peers, which is another factor to consider. My entry rank would be E3 due to my associate degree told by the Air force recruiter I met, but I'll need a moral waiver for a misdemeanor I had at 18, which might limit my job options not to mention she told me I would have to be at the disposal of whatever the Air Force wanted me to do? Which I am assuming means that I could enlist for one thing that they tell me nope get your doing this. The Air Force recruiter told me that I would be just fine and I would be able to get in as long as my ASVAB score is high enough.
I'm torn about whether to commit to AD and save myself or a longer term in the military via reserves but still stuck in the same loop of feeling in fulfilled, unable to afford university and in a place I would rather leave. Insights from anyone who joined the military later or faced similar decisions would be incredibly helpful.
Thanks for any advice!
P.S I am also ok with the idea of the military as a career as I would still be able to retire earlier than many of my peers if I pursue the 20 year route..

Going back in. Needing some suggestions on different MOS.
So when I was in the first time I was a 25U. I was 16 when I swore in to secure my mos and left at 18YO. I’ve decicided to go back in. Im picking between 19 jobs, I qualify for all of them as I keep my old asvab scores. I scored over a 105 in everything so I have a pretty big list to pick from. These jobs have good jobs outside of the army and that’s my angle, I know 25U translates to a good job outside of the army but it’s not my cup of tea. So any info on the jobs in the army and civilian life for these mos would be greatly appreciate. The jobs are: 68L 68X (specifically because I want to help vets who are/have suffered) 88H 35F 25B 35M 35G 35L 88K 88N 88U 27D 31E 12M 15Q 15N 25U 88L 88M

Background: Greencard holder, 6yr+ experience in IT field. No degree. Married.
Always wanted to join the military and finally have the opportunity to do so.
What I want to experience from the military;
I want the opportunity to grow in the IT field and have military experience and later on attain a contractor job in overseas installations. Very interested in being able to move overseas for a few years specially Japan.
My biggest interest is to grow in my career + experience other countries.
Recruits have also told me that for active duty they are allowing first duty station to be chosen because the army apparently has a shortage of people joining so they want to motivate people to join by allowing them to choose duty stations. This has made me consider going active IF they aren't lying about this + the job security has always been a plus to me.
My primary plan was :
Going reserve, getting my citizenship while in basic training, changing my mos to 25B then finding government contracting job overseas preferably (Japan) and changing my unit to Japan to drill there (Camp Zama). Overall my biggest goal is to move overseas and be in the IT field.
What is the best route? Advice is greatly appreciated in advance:)

Vision Waiver Acceptance Probability
So I’m wanting to enlist as an 11x OP 4in the army, went to MEPS a few weeks ago, and am currently waiting on a current injury to be waived. I’m just kind of worrying about my vision waiver. Recruiter said we have to wait for this to be cleared first, then we can launch the vision waiver.
What’s the probability that a vision waiver will be accepted with Visual Acuity of 20/30 20/50 corrected vision. I understand everything is case to case, I’m just kind of worrying that it’ll end up being denied.

Thinking about reenlisting to army with 8.5 PS in USMC. Been out < 5years. Will I have to repeat AIT if I keep my same MOS? I know this is the wrong channel for USMC feedback but also considering going back there if it would mean not repeating AlT. Thanks in advance!

What are the odds of getting a waiver for ulcerative colitis? I was EPTS’d out in march 2023 after being diagnosed while I was at 30th AG. My GI said I was in remission as of jan of this year. I take 4 Lialda pills a day and get an entyvio infusion every 2 months. I feel perfectly fine now though. Scored a 74 on the asvab.

Hi all,
I am a permanent resident here is the US, and last week I finished my ASVAB mock test with a 95 on my AFQT.

Background: Greencard holder, 6yr+ experience in IT field. No degree. Married.
Always wanted to join the military and finally have the opportunity to do so.
What I want to experience from the military;

2024.05.29 02:20 na445x Looking for some perspective on my Calcium Score Test

I'm a 41M that has had a history of genetically high cholesterol all his life. I'm no athlete, but I try to eat carefully and be generally healthy. I typically have red meat 5-6 times a year. I drink maybe 1-2 a month. No dairy. And almost no dessert, except on things like anniversary trips.
However, my LDL has been climbing steadily nevertheless over the years until it finally got to 150. My doctors have told me that it is just the way that my body functions unfortunately, and that there's only so much that can be controlled through lifestyle choices.
After I turned 41, my cardiologist suggested that it might be time to start taking medication to control my cholesterol levels (something I've been trying to avoid for years). He said that before he just blindly prescribes medication to me, he would first like to get a Calcium Score Test done to get a sense of the hard plaque within my arteries so far.
Now I saw that score and I thought it was a relief! From what I understood, that score shows only really Mild calcification and indicates that the risk of Heart Disease is very unlikely.
However, my Primary Care doctor, who also got a copy of the results, messaged me saying that he was quite concerned that I had even a 7 at the age of 41. He said that score might be low, but it is relatively high for my age and that I should DEFINTIELY start taking medication right away.
I won't be able to talk to my cardiologist for another few days and now I'm really nervous. I don't know if my score is actually something to be scared about, or if it is simply a sign that I should start some preventative measures to ensure a long life.

26 years old, testosterone at 364, and suffering from multiple symptoms.
Two weeks ago I visited a doctor to discuss a number of symptoms that align with low T. Glacially slow progress in putting on muscle despite 2+ years of rigorous lifting 5 days per week, no improvements in body fat even with improved diet, low energy, and worst of all, a nearly non-existent libido.
The doctor thought there was a high probability of this being a testosterone problem and I was ordered to complete bloodwork. I'll be visiting her next week to discuss the results, but I wanted to share them here as well to get some feedback from anyone who might know more than I do about the four hormones I was tested for.
Obviously the 364 is at the lower end of the range, but my doctor said that even if I was "in-range" but on the lower end of the spectrum that I still might be prescribed some regiment of trt, given my symptoms. Would love to hear your thoughts.

2024.05.29 00:06 twocatsinthehouse_ Health Care provider not treating my BV, UP, Yeast correctly, and I don’t know what else to do to get my life back.

Hi all - bear with me, I’m quite emotional and angry so it might seem like word vomit. I don’t know what to do.
Background: 4 weeks ago I go in and get tested for BV and Yeast for minor symptoms. I tested positive for yeast ONLY and got treated with Fluconazole (double dose 3 days apart) I still had symptoms, actually worse this time. 1.5 weeks later I go back and she swabs again, it comes back as Candida Galbrata and BV - apparently I got BV within a week? I get another double dose of fluconozole and metro pills. Yeast relief lasted only 24 hours, and the metro pills (5 days or 7 days) didn’t work.
I did tons of research, both on peer reviewed articles and here and found that Galbrata is essentially resistant to fluconozole and it should not be treated with that. I kindly asked my NP, is this the first line of treatment because it’s not the standard Albicans yeast, I’m already 2 doses in and it didn’t work. She said yes it’s the standard treatment, many women have this. I went in again saying hey this second time didn’t work, can you please test me for Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma as well as the other stuff. She said sure, and explained that the ABX for UP is doxy and it’s different for BV.
It took like 4 days for that result to come up, and it finally came in at 8pm. Positive for all 3. I was in so much discomfort I had called the on call doctor and explained to her my situation, that I have been on FIVE doses of fluconozole in 4 weeks and it hasn’t helped, the metro hasn’t helped my BV and now I have Ureaplasma. She told me she’s about to retire (this is where I knew she would start ranting lol) and Fluconazole should not be given to patients with Galbrata yeast, and when she tells the NPs and doctors about it they get frustrated and don’t like getting their feathers ruffled. She also said Doxy is good for Mycoplasma, but Azithromycin is best for Ureaplasma. She mentioned she’s read updated studies and did speeches for universities on various pelvic diseases, she doesn’t understand why people don’t follow this protocol. She prescribed me Azithromycin 10 days for my Ureaplasma and Terconazole 3 days for the yeast. I don’t even think I mentioned I was still positive for BV, I was so flustered. Oh and ALL of my and my husbands healthcare providers refuse to treat him for BV or Ureaplasma. He has to make an appt at a urologist which is MONTHS out. Even then they would have to decide to test him and treat him, and you know how that shit goes. If the man has no symptoms it’s no problem.
Fast forward to today, I’m almost on my last dose of ABX, and I message that NP hey my course is almost done, I’m not getting my BV treated though - can I please have medication for that before I do my yeast protocol. She said she wasn’t doing anything for the BV, she wants me to finish the yeast meds after my current ABX and then do 3 weeks of boric acid. I asked if she sure because the ABX I’m on now does not treat BV, she said she wants me to do boric acid. And come back in 3 weeks.
So basically I’m not being treated for BV - I’m just supposed to take boric acid for 3 weeks. If I take it more than 3 days in a row I get irritated, she said to keep consistent. I feel like I’m going to go insane. I’m over a month with discomfort and no sex. She seems to be pushing me aside. I don’t know what to do or who to go to, maybe that doctor on call? Any advice will be appreciated.
This is what I’m doing now:
Once I’m done with the above I will try the following:
Guys I’m tired. I feel like I have to fight for my health, to be treated appropriately. I’m not a doctor, I didn’t go to school for medicine, but I can research, do analysis and ask questions. It seems like some of these doctors have a “standard” they aren’t willing to stray off of until the patient endures months of discomfort. I feel horrible.
Sorry for the word vomit.

2024.05.29 00:05 remck1234 Struggling with early diagnosis and medication suggestion

I first went to a doctor about an exercise/ stress induced rash I had developed after giving birth. This rash was painful, embarrassing and really bothersome. The doctor wanted to do some testing to rule out autoimmune disorders.
That test came back with a very low positive ANA 1:40, CCP of 26, and rheumatoid factor of 14.
She felt these numbers were too low to indicate any problems. I was also experiencing extreme fatigue, hand and feet swelling, brain fog, severe headaches. This was during a very stressful time in my life- husband was deployed, in school full time, and caring for 2 kids under the age of 5.
I talked to a psychiatrist who put me back on ADHD meds. Between the meds and my husband returning, life got much better. Fatigue cleared up, although I do still occasionally have swelling of hands and feet and headaches. The psychiatrist requested my labs to ensure I was healthy. She was concerned by my ANA, CCP numbers and some symptoms I had.
I saw a dermatologist for the rash and for newly developed Raynaud symptoms. The dermatologist also expressed concern over my lab results and referred me to a rheumatologist.
The rheumatologist looked over my numbers, talked about my symptoms and diagnosed me with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis. He prescribed folic acid and methotrexate. I was very wary about all of this because I actually feel a lot better than I did a year ago. I am exercising regularly, and feel like I am in a good place physically. The swelling of hands and feet still happens on occasion. I also experience pain in my wrists, elbows, and neck that will occur for around 2 weeks, clear up, and then reoccur. This pain can be very uncomfortable but isn’t debilitating. Overall I feel like I have a fairly good quality of life.
So I took my first dose of methotrexate and was very tired for about 48 hours. I had no energy and basically laid around all weekend. I was nauseous but did not vomit or have any real GI problems. It just made me feel kind of gross and tired.
I dread the idea of taking this medication every week forever. I feel like it makes me feel worse than the swollen joints and I have not really fully accepted that I was given the correct diagnosis. My numbers are low and from reading others stories, my condition seems to be nowhere near as bad as others.
TL;DR
Mostly I am looking for support. Is there anyone else who had very low numbers and mild symptoms, but received a very quick diagnosis? Did you immediately medicate? How did you cope with the idea of having a lifelong disease, but feeling overall fairly healthy?
Thank you for anyone who took the time to read all of this, I tried not to ramble too much.

2024.05.28 23:31 throwawayplsjusthelp For the love of God, pls get swabbed.

F20 I’m writing this for anybody who may b experiencing anything remotely similar to what I did because these last few months have been extremely fucking rough for me, and if I can help one person feel less alone it’s worth it.
I started fearing I had herpes Dec 2023. I was raped by a now ex boyfriend and he’s the only “sexual partner” whose status I was unaware of.
This scared me because he didn’t use a condom and I’m very diligent when it comes to my health, regular condom use, and I’ve always made my exes show me their results as it’s very typical that men will never get tested unless they experience SEVERE symptoms.
I never planned to have intercourse with him at that time, so this just threw me for a loop as everything was very unplanned. No knowledge of his status, no condom, no consent.
I experienced immediate issues during the act, I’ve never had lubrication issues EVER, quite the opposite (tmi ik but I want to give perspective of the immediate sexual changes that followed) but this time I was DRY like sandpaper rubbing inside me ugh I was so uncomfortable, and I’m really sorry and I want to hug anyone who knows exactly what I’m talking about. I had never experienced pain like that from intercourse before this, he refused to stop till I was actually screaming and writhing in pain and clawing at him.
I planned to never talk to him again, but not knowing his status was rlly eating at me, I asked him if he had ever got tested before and he told me no.
INSTANT PANIC
My vagina did not feel the same from that point onward. I was sore and swollen for a few days after, I later went to a clinic to get an STI full panel test (ik that’s too soon, but understand I was in a haze of confusion I was trying to do damage control) The results for that initial test came back completely negative.
I had a crawling sensation on my mons pubis and labia area as if something was moving through the hairs, I also felt like the hairs were moving themselves. I started being itchy all the fucking time, it was all I could think about, I didn’t get a break from it, my lower region was so uncomfortable and all these sensations were so foreign to me. I also would get very dry, like uncomfortable as fuck, this was also new, I couldn’t stand my panties rubbing against me, or even the skin touching itself or AIR. I would literally have to put a wad of wet toilet paper for a tiny bit of relief but nothing could relieve me mentally. I also would slather Vaseline all over my lower region for the tiniest bit of relief. At this point I was waiting for the 6 week mark so I couldn’t get retested literally counting down the days. One night I went out for drinks w my friends ( I don’t drink normally) and my vagina was on FIRE like itching burning all of it, not the lil scratchy dry I was feeling before. I was starting considering maybe I had a yeast infection, I had only ever had one before this (not diagnosed by a doctor) and I treated it w canesten so I ran to Walmart to get a tube and didn’t even wait till I got home, I used their washroom and slathered it all over me. I remembered the first time I had done this for my previous presumed yeast infection I felt some sort of immediate relief, but this time I did not. On my way home I was antsy and squirming in my seat, nothing was comfortable, sitting, standing, lying down.
I tried using the canesten for a couple days following but it just seemed useless, crawling sensation was still there and now I was feeling this popping sensation. Like the skin of my labia were sticking together cause of moisture then spreading apart and creating kind of like a pop, that’s the best way I can describe it idk. I hated leaving the house because I felt like I constantly had my hands down my pants to scratch or literally cupping my vagina, adding pressure, applying Vaseline, whatever I thought could bring relief. I started to notice bumps. This is when my STI research rabbit hole really took off. Initially they started on my pubic area, I assumed they were pimples or even boils but I have had pimples in my pubic area before and they either had a yellow top or a white head, these were shiny hard bumps that definitely looked like blisters. They would come and go…in the same spots. Some of them I would squeeze out of frustration and thick blood OR white or clear fluid would run out. Of course there were concerns coupled with the sensations but initially I wasn’t assuming these bumps were coming from any STIs (specifically herpes) because they were on my mons pubis and my research told me me that herpes likes to live in most areas although it was possible. I wanted to book with my family doctor, but honestly I was so scared because I was ashamed plus my doctor is a male and the icing on the cake was the receptionist are fucking rude pricks, one of them I knew their daughter (I hate that bitch) and I wasn’t willing to willingly open a potentially awkward ass situation like that.
Now I had sores to add to my symptoms, like raw skin on my labia, the hood of my clit and yes they burned and hurt but mostly when touched faintly when left alone. I was so sure I had herpes, I would be only every subreddit related to herpes, reading my exact symptoms, seeing outbreaks that strongly resembled what I had. I even a few times would post the pics of the sores and would always get a handful of comments telling me that they looked concerning and I should get them swabbed ASAP and a few saying they were nothing concerning. A couple times I had burning pee, but I honestly can’t remember if this was before or after the sores started to appear. I’m a working student who has no car so it’s not rlly the easiest thing for me to find time to go to a walk in and get swabbed and honestly the sores wouldn’t last longer than a week and they mostly seemed to occur right before my period, clear up with it only to appear a few days after. The itching and tingling were almost always there with maybe an occasional day of relief. I would take pics of almost every numb and sore that was irritating so I could bring to my appointments, at the 6 week mark, I tested again at the same walk in and everything was negative, I showed the doctor the pics I took and she said they don’t look like anything concerning as in herpes. Every time I got a chance to go to the doctor it would always be when I didn’t have a sore which was really unfortunate
Doctors rlly operate off their OPINIONS so I booked an appt w my university clinic and unfortunately, again, I had no sores to swab and I just had my red sores and bump pictures to show and my symptoms. This doctor was male so I won’t necessarily say I held him opinion in low regard but he almost seemed like uncomfortable? Idk
When I say I convinced myself I had herpes in telling u I was doing everything, lysine, diet changes, all of it. My symptoms and sores/bumps were soooooo fucking similar to everything I was seeing. Nothing rlly was alleviating my turmoil long term so I rlly thought I was one of those ppl who just had a bad case.
At this point I had sworn off sex, I was going to go celibate and never date for the rest of my life and was rlly working towards just making myself as comfortable as possible, scanning subreddits for advice, literally doing everything ever recommended with rlly not much luck. I was rlly hanging on to the “it gets better” that everyone was swearing by.
Over the months I’ve debated texting him and asking him to actually get tested just so I’m aware of his status but I literally can’t because there’s a no contact order unless there’s a lawyer involved, although this order applies to him, I believe I can’t initiate contact because him responding would equal him breaking the order (I reported the rape).
I spent my birthday crying and scratching and sleeping cause that was the only time I wasn’t thinking about it.
I tried everything, no underwear, loose clothing, changing soaps, more water, more exercise, more sleep, no stress (lol this was impossible), no certain foods, EVRYTHINGGGG, by now I had the nerve pain, the shocks, the zap, I had it all over my lower body sometimes upper. Numbness was there, as well as the static ans pins and needles
I had no idea what the “normal” state of my vagina was like. It was like my memory b4 December of that area was wiped. Discomfort was my new normal. I also couldn’t rmr what my discharge was like, during this time I experienced diff types, thick white discharge, watery, it was hard to track. My vaginal smell also got stronger, not a bad smell but the smell was STRONGER. Like immediately I took of my panties I could smell my vagina another symptom I had read about
Last week, I had sores and bumps that itched and burned outside of the “prodrome symptoms” I reg experienced and begged my boss to let me leave work early to go to the same walk in clinic I needed her to say yes bc I FINALLY had sores to swab.
I once again did a full panel STI test (this was my third time, I went again at the 3 month mark before this) blood, urine, and this time, a swab.
She said for sure there were bumps but she didn’t see any ulcers but she’d swab for both yeast and HSV. She asked me if I wanted to b on anti virals while waiting for the results and immediately I said yes (I had basically accepted it at this point and was working on just coping and I was looking at this appointment being final confirmation for me) and she advised me to drink lots of water and gave me the valacyclivir prescription.
Taking the prescription brought zero relief to my symptoms. Again, I thought I was one of those w people who had a bad case and was gonna finish the 10 days and wait till I got the results back before taking any other action.
Finally, this week I was called in bc my results came in. I came to the appt w the mindset that was finally gonna get the type of HSV and was gonna let her know that I wanted to try gabapentin and a diff antiviral.
GUYS. It was negative. BUT YEAST WAS DETECTED. My jaw DROPPED. I was so floored. I was prescribed clotrimazole but I haven’t even bought it yet cause I’m broke tn lol. But listen, when I say my symptoms basically disappeared overnight without it… I’m not kidding. Everything suddenly HALTED like EVERYTHING. All of it was psychological, and yeast (I’m still picking up the script when I get paid)
This experience did also educated me on HSV, the stigma, the experiences others have had, those who had it transmitted to them intentionally or carelessly, the immune system, healthy lifestyles, so in a way…I’m kinda grateful? HSV stigma needs to end. More ppl need to b educated on this it’s honestly disheartening knowing I knew virtually nothing about an infection as common as herpes. I used to think oral was the least riskiest sexual act but now idk if I could ever again knowing what I know now, and most people will never know their status if they’re carriers of the virus. Even now I’m not sure if I can ever have sex or date ever again but that’s not bc of the HSV. My point? Don’t assume, get swabbed, no matter what anybody says or what you think, looking back the alcohol probably flared up the yeast.

2024.05.28 23:29 lilrudegurl33 How to tell family/friends to make their peace with a sick person?

Ive an elderly relative who has been in and out of the hospital these past couple weeks with a somewhat bad heart condition.
Their doctor told me if this relative doesn’t take the prescribed medications there is a good chance of heart failure.
The other thing is, this relative strongly believes in the power of prayer and that the doctor and the meds are evil.
From the numbers and current health situation. If a heart arrest or stroke occurs, I dont think this person will last very long.
I want to let other folks to make their peace while this relative is still on their own accord.

2024.05.28 23:08 petiteodessa Piercer AITA?

So I’ll get to the point. I messaged my piercer (well i guess now former piercer) about having issues with my triple lobes that she did. Some backround info: she did 6 piercings in one sitting. She didn’t advise me against doing so either. If it matters, they were done by needles. Now I know what a TERRIBLE IDEA that was and I learned the lesson the hard way. Looking back at this now, I probably should have ran and never came back since I now know better. I got them done at the same time, took good care of them, until I went to 6 flags where one of the rides roughed up second and third lobes pretty badly. My other piercings are fine. And around a month after getting them done, I got my septum pierced by her which she was cool with at the time. She clearly remembered doing my triple lobes at the time of doing my septum. Fortunately that one healed up nicely. It’s been a long 8 months of not sleeping on them and babying the shit out of them and the two never healed. At the of me going to 6 flags, they were 9 months old. I went to urgent care today because one was swollen for 2 months now and the swelling never went down. The other one had an everlasting irritation bump that would go away then come back. At first I thought my piercings were just acting up but by now I figured this wasn’t normal. The doctor prescribed me antibiotics because they’re infected and confirmed that fortunately my other lobe piercings are ok.
So back to the story. Here’s where I’m asking AITA because I don’t know how to feel right now. I messaged my piercer by basically telling her my concerns and troubles. I said that I had a really rough time healing them and suggested her to refuse anybody wanting triple lobes on both ears in one sitting. At the time of getting pierced, I didn’t know any better and went way past my own limits. Plus I know it’s my fault that I got them infected because she had no part in that. I was thinking maybe she would take my criticism for any future clients, advising them to take it slow. But her response I felt was off-putting. She first said sorry that I had a bad experience with her but then she proceeded to accuse me of being passive aggresive when sharing my concerns. She claims to always advise clients against getting multiple piercings in one go and that there was a miscommunication. She ended her message with "there’s another piercer out there for you" and basically peaced out.
I feel like she’s the one being passive aggressive because for someone who has been piercing for 14+ years, she should know better. I’m also getting the feeling that she can’t take criticism and own up to her mistakes since I’m feeling like she blamed me for getting so many piercings in one go when I didn’t know any better. She pierced me twice before and didn’t see any problems then. Of course we’re all human and sometimes we get brain farts but her response made me feel really hurt. Was I really being that rude? I truly wish I took screenshots of what went down but I felt really offended and immediately hit the block button. So AITA?

2024.05.28 23:05 biscuit_knees_ The massive failure that continues to be KP Mental Health Services

TDLR: Tried to get an appointment with a psychiatrist to verify and discuss my new OCD diagnosis only to be gatekept by multiple people in the psychiatry department who told me I needed to be on medication for at least 6-8 weeks before they would even consider seeing me.
Just when I started to have hope that Kaiser's mental health services improved, they proved me wrong.
I've been having a mental health spiral since January of this year and I recently started Zoloft as prescribed through my PCP less than a week ago. Shortly after, I scheduled an appointment with a therapist through Kaiser's Grow Therapy platform and was diagnosed with OCD. I had long suspected I had OCD, but in previous years, any therapist I met with at Kaiser was massively unqualified and underinformed to identify and diagnose at the time.
My therapist, who luckily claims to specialize in OCD, recommended I discuss the diagnosis with a psychiatrist through Kaiser to essentially get a second opinion and co-manage my care as well as make sure it's included in my records, seeing as how therapists through Grow Therapy are unable to share their notes/diagnosis with Kaiser directly.
So I go into the KP portal to find and select a doctor by specialty. I see that all the psychiatrists listed require a referral. So, after emailing my PCP and then calling member services to let them know of my diagnosis and to request a referral for psychiatry, I was told I absolutely do not need a referral to see a psychiatrist and to call them directly to get an appointment. They were actually confused by this.
I call psychiatry only to be met with the first gatekeeper who did my triage and after it was all said and done told me I would not be seen by a psychiatrist because it is their requirement that I have at least "one trial" of 6-8 weeks on medication before they would even consider seeing me. Despite telling them that I understood about the medication requirement and that I'm currently on medication, I still wanted to have a conversation with a psychiatrist to verify the diagnosis and ask questions about OCD because this is all new for me. She kept saying she was unable to override this rule because her manager would not let her. I even asked her at one point why she was literally gatekeeping me from seeing a psychiatrist because of this stupid rule.
After the first gatekeeper kept saying her manager would not approve and override this rule, I asked to speak to the manager. Gatekeeper 1 gave me a phone number to a call center and told me to ask for the manager at that number. I call the call center, ask for the manager, only to be redirected back to gatekeeper 1 who tells me the manager will call me. The manager calls me, who is now deemed gatekeeper 2, doubles down and says I can't talk to a psychiatrist unless I've been on medication for 6-8 weeks. She says that the only way to override that would be if my PCP feels they aren't qualified to oversee my treatment/condition, and only then would my PCP refer me to a psychiatrist. She also kept going on about how the "role" of psychiatrists at Kaiser is only to oversee the effects of medications on patients, prescribe new ones if needed, and they don't do anything outside of that. I said, "What sense does that make? So I can't even verify or discuss my OCD diagnosis and ask questions about it with a psychiatrist?"
Gatekeeper 2 replies, "Oh, you want to verify your diagnosis? Then I can get your clinic to call you within 72 hours and see if they'll schedule an appointment for you." Huh??? It's what I've been asking for all along! Nothing in her tone indicated she was being truthful that I'd get a call and she hung up on me while I was finishing saying goodbye.
I've filed a grievance with member services and who've deemed my case "urgent", and they'll be working to schedule an appointment ASAP, thank God. I'm also expecting a call from another department who deals specifically with the complaint portion of my grievance. I was told I also have the option to file a complaint with the Department of Manage Care...but I could tell they didn't want me to do that! (I probably will!)

2024.05.28 23:04 baggybritches23 Labs Results - Fertility- Estrogen... Any advice?

Labs Results - Fertility- Estrogen... Any advice?
Here are my most recent lab results. My clinic closed down- but my doctor is working on setting his own thing up and is still seeing me via zoom etc for low t treatment. When I started I was Total T: 285 ng/DL
I had alot of symptoms, overweight, low energy, low libido... Even though I was eating right, working out several times a week and sleeping, alright, nothing changed in my body.
I started Testosterone treatment. 170mg once every Friday with 12.5mg Enclomiphene every day. I felt great. I started losing weight and getting strong, I already had the habits in place, I just needed the right fuel so to speak- for lack of a better term.
Well, I am starting to have decreased sensitivity, and orgasm takes a really long time, like 30-40min...Erection quality is going down too. I tried Cialis but that made my back hurt for some reason and I felt nauseas every time I took it. On top of that we are trying to conceive! So those few things don't help that endeavor.
My doctor said its because the estrogen receptors are getting blocked from the Enclomiphene, and my estradiol is too high overall. He doesn't really want to prescribe HCG (for fertility), (but to stick with the ENCLO)I don't know why. There really aren't any other doctors in my area that I can afford. One place charges 300 a month for the test., and HCG. I am currently paying like 50 a month for everything. Online doctors can't prescribe TRT to Oregon either. He suggested to take Dim and Chrysin along with Calcium D- Glugacarte.
Basically just wondering what you guys think, if you have any suggestions for lowering estrogen aromatization aside from AI.(he is reluctant to give me that too) Overall he has been great but a few holes in the care I am getting it seems. I tried searching reddit but there is so much complexity. Everyone has different research to present so it's hard for me to really sort out what is the best option. I appreciate your time!
Also dont know if it's worth mentioning but, I also had really low iron. So I started supplementing a little of that everyday.

2024.05.28 23:04 Darkjuda Aldara (heavy) side effects

Hi there,
Okay so this is not exactly a throwaway account but I don't really care.
Around september-october, I noticed three suspension points under my glans. I showed a picture to a doctor friend of mine, and he thought this was nothing. Last month, I decided to go see a specialist and it took him 2 seconds to tell me I had HPV and that these dots were GW.
He prescribed me Aldara, with one use per day for 6 weeks. It's been a week (21-28 of may). In less than 3 days, the skin became red, irritated, a bit swollen, and the dots started to disintegrate. I've read stuff about this cream here https://www.skinhealthinfo.org.uk/condition/imiquimod-cream/, and I think those are actually good signs.
The issue is that, while the GWs seem to have completely disappeared, the skin is pretty swolen and some painful abscess have emerged. From what I've understood, this is because the immune system started treating the "abnormal" cells that are deeper under the surface. My pharmacist told me this could happen (she saw it herself, she didn't say where) and that I should not panic if it happens.
Also, in the span of one week, I had three episodes of weakness, fever and headache. Mostly flu symptoms that lasted for about a day or a night or so. I sent an email to the specialist who prescribed me Aldara, and told him about those "flu symptoms". I asked if I should stop the treatment, slow it down, or continue as prescribed, because I found out that those side effects are considered rare but heavy reactions and that the treatment should be stopped. He pretty much responded me that I most likely cought some virus, and that I should continue the treatment as prescribed.
From what I understood, the treatment seems to be working, too much maybe, but I'm not sure I want to die in the process. Now, after searching through this subreddit, I didn't find a lot of people talking about such Aldara side effects. So I'm asking it here. Has anyone "endured" the same or similar side effects ?
To be clear, I'm not asking foexpecting medical advice, I'm asking for opinions.

2024.05.28 22:37 Organic_Writing_9881 What questions should I ask during my first visit to a specialist?

What questions should I ask during my first visit to a specialist?
Today I visited my primary doctor who agrees the results warrant further controls and referred me to a specialist. I am looking for talking points and questions to ask to my specialist. I don't know what I don't know and I would like to hear suggestions for points to raise during my visit from people who have similar patterns to mine.
Background: 42M. No history of diabetes in the family. My fasting glucose levels are ~110mg/dl according to pharmacy tests and ~125-130 mg/dl according to Libre 3. Regardless of what the official diagnosis could be, something is clearly not right. The reason I experimented with a CGM in the first place was not because I suspected diabetes, but I wanted to make sure my hypoglycemic diet was not interfering with my training and causing lows. I exercise around 10-15 hours a week (triathlons). I wasn’t very happy with the high-sugar nutrition I take on the bike and I was experimenting with more complex carbs (I do long distance events and focus on endurance more). I wanted to use CGM to make sure I wasn't experiencing lows after intense workouts. High fasting BG was a surprise.
My BG seems to be very stable throughout the day. I rarely see levels above 140, but also never under 100. The standard deviation of BG levels are around 10mg/dl and the coefficient of variation (standard deviation divided by mean BG levels) is ~9%). These are inline with what was observed in a healthy population (except the high average!) (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31127824/). I already (as a life style) follow a hypoglycemic diet (e.g., almost no flour but buckwheat/lentil alternatives, I usually avoid gluten, no sugar other than weekly indulgences) and I'm active. I'm beginning to suspect that maybe I’ve been managing my diabetes all this time without knowing it.
Just for experimentation yesterday I had a croissant and cappuccino as my breakfast and I saw a spike of 170 after 45 minutes and a dip of 100 and it was back to 120 in two hours. The qualitative pattern seems like what I would expect from a healthy individual, but the mean levels and the baseline are shifted. The other day I had a polenta heavy meal (again as an experiment, it’s not something I frequently consume) and my BG didn’t go above 150. Half a pizza spiked to 180 and in 90 minutes all was back to baseline. At this point I am tempted to drink a milkshake and see what happens.
I guess, the specialist will prescribe a glucose tolerance test and we’ll see what happens (so I won’t have to go through with my milkshake experiment). I plan to tell the specialist what I just summarized here. Are there any questions I should be asking during my visit?

2024.05.28 22:31 Wolfwoode Ruining my Life... Again. I will die alone.

I'm 31 and Bipolar 1. I've had mutiple manic episodes, major depressive ones, I tend to have the depressive ones way more.
I feel like I lost my 20s. It took a very long time to find medication that remotely worked. At one point my doctor prescribed me Olanzapine. When I told her I wanted to try something else, go back to lamictal, she said I had tried everything else and just kept uping the Olanzapine dose. Eventually she got me up to 300 miligram tablets. For reference, I take a 2.5 now.
So I was a zombie for 10 years until I got a new psychiatrist that actually worked with me to help me.
In my manic episodes I have spent my savings, I have almost died on mutiple different occasions, but the worst thing is I keep ruining relationships.
When I'm in a manic (or mixed) episode I can't think clearly, read context wrong, do things I'd normally know is a bad idea. I've never hurt anyone other than myself. But I've blurted out crushes to girls that are just being friendly, fucking up our friendship. I'll pick up on signals that aren't signals because I'm so infatuated.
And now I did it again, with a girl I really like, who I think I might have even liked me back, and I fucked it up by being weird because I ran out of my mood stabilizer, coudn't get more, despite my every effort to get it filled on time.
I don't send dick picks, run over to soemone's house, don't bombard them with messages: I just fuck it up because I'm not thinking with my right mind and I sound weird.
And as much as I try to control myself and just not send the message when I'm in that state, it's a thought controlling my head and I need to do something to alleviate the pressure and the suffering. And that's when my impulse control is at its all time low.
And then people will hear what I did and say, "Gee, what is he bipolar?"
Not knowing that I am, and it keeps ruining my life. I don't know if I'll ever find anyone to share my life with because I have this disease.
And if anyone finds out I'm bipolar, they'll just think I'm a freak, or some out of control person capable of violence.
I am just so tired of waking up from a mood episode to find my life in pieces.
I got my mood stabilizer this morning and took it, hopefully I'll be better sooner rather than later, but now I have to deal with fucking up my life for the 1000th time.
I don't know how many more times I can go through this before I quit.
TL:DR - Sorry for the long post. I just think I lost the part of me that wants to keep going.

2024.05.28 22:30 CDiggitty Ear infection; ringing/muffled sound

Hi All,
I got strep last week which turned into an ear infection in my right ear. I had horrendous ear pain when I woke last Thursday, had ringing and every sound was muffled and immediately scheduled an appointment with doctor. He took strep test and checked ear. Strep was positive and I also had an ear infection. Prescribed 300mg of Cefdinir. Pain has since subsided, but the ringing and clogging is still there. I was concerned because I haven't had an ear infection since I was a child (I am 42 now) and NEVER experienced hearing loss like this. I went back a couple days later on Saturday and he said to just let the meds run their course because this happens sometimes. I asked about a steroid and he advised against it until meds are done. I have tried warm compresses, pinching my nose and lightly blowing, heating pads, etc. It is now 6 days and my right ear is still clogged and is causing imbalance issues when I awake or stand up. I can feel my ear popping when I blow my nose, but it sounds like it's popping behind a wall. Is it normal to lose hearing like this for this long after an ear infection? I'm a huge audiophile and the thought of this lasting any long than it has is very discouraging. Appreciate any tips or advice from people who have experienced this!

2024.05.28 21:54 Epriz98 Slight sciatic rant

Hi everyone - more of a ghost follower here but I’ve been dealing with sciatica for 5 months and need an outlet with like minded people.
Some background: - last summer after working on a dock at a cottage I had a severe bout of lower back pain which eventually settled after a month or two - fast forward to early January of this year I started experiencing some mild sciatica - nothing crazy I was even still working out and playing sports like usual - this “mild” pain has now manifested over the last couple months to absolutely excruciating and the back of my leg has been numb for months along with pins and needles and a “cold water” feeling
I currently cannot sit up straight, I have to sit leaned over to one side, I cannot stand without my whole leg having painful pins and needles and feeling weak, walking is the same and laying down is the only “comfortable” position. Unfortunately I do not have a doctor and I am in Canada so I have been seeing a physio and a Chiro for the last 5 months and nothing is helping. I finally sought help from a walk in clinic and was prescribed lyrica, which did nothing but give me side effects so I stopped taking it.
I have a referral for an mri but that’s not for 4 more months. I am at a complete loss and feeling very defeated as my whole life feels it has been taken from me. I am a very active individual who plays squash, volleyball and pickleball regularly and now I can’t even go for a walk. The pain is so bad I can barely even concentrate at my desk job.
I am desperate to move this forwards so I am looking into paying for a private mri in the us. Not sure if others have dealt with the horror that is the Canadian health care system but I am just feeling so lost right now.
Sorry for the ramble :)

2024.05.28 21:44 Bettyeggwhitess Experience with chronic insomnia & generic vs name brand quetiapine (Seroquel) that saved me

Hey guys, I just wanted to share my story with insomnia and medication to help me sleep.
TL;DR The following is my back story. If not interested school down to "Here is when things started to improve over the last few weeks:"
""Backstory, it's lengthy:** My insomnia started when I was around 23 years old. I used to be able to sleep well with 25mg of quetiapine but I noticed I had to keep going up to even get tired from the meds. I am 28 now so it feels like years of my life has been negatively impacted from my chronic sleep issues. The only times I was able to get relief in between is when I was able to get benzodiazepines and zoplocone temporarily from a psychiatrist several years ago who ended up moving away. I went years without a psychiatrist until I finally got one in May of 2022. From age 23-25 I ended up down a slippery slope with alcohol consumption in the evening as I was able to feel relaxed and sleep. As time went on the alcohol use increased, I ended up binge drinking almost daily after work every day so I could literally get to the point of passing out just to sleep. Over time the alcohol had a negative impact on my sleep too because it does actually cause sleep issues in itself. I have been sober from alcohol after my 26th birthday. Even though the sleep issues were still prevalent it definitely improved my mental health and improved some of my anxiety issues leaving that poison behind.
Even if I wasn't able to sleep for almost 2 days, my insomnia would be so bad that taking upwards of 300mg of quetiapine just wasn't working. I know they recommend lower doses 25-50mg for sleep issues but that dose just stopped taking effect. I would be physically sedated but still unable to sleep on 300 mg and when I was at my lowest I was taking even more. Not even considering how a significant increase of dosage quickly could be dangerous.
On that high dose of quetiapine I was struggling to walk and barely stand up to try and get snacks from the quetiapine induced munching. I would lay in bed shoving shoving potato chips in my face day and night. Couldn't watch tv. Couldn't scroll on my phone. Couldn't think happy thoughts I would lay there crying in so much discomfort. Couldn't go outside for a walk to try and tire myself out. My life was slipping away from me.
It would make me totally dysfunctional onwards to the next day and I felt like I was in hell laying in bed not able to get comfortable, then moving to the couch to see if it would help and back to the bed again. For a while I believe it was even causing symptoms of restless leg syndrome. It was a nightmare and caused me complete mental turmoil where I was feeling hopeless, depressed and even faced suicidal thoughts.
There were times where I was incapable of caring for my dog which broke my heart. I was even unable to care for myself but my dog took precedence. Sometimes I was so unable to function I would only be able to take her out to use the bathroom only once to twice a day at my lowest during my depressive episodes from my sleep deprivation and I had no help or support to care for her so I had to send her home with my parents so she could be properly looked after.
I was starting to struggle academically while trying to get my degree as I couldn't attend class, complete assignments, study for tests and unable to perform well during exams because my brain was drawing blanks memorizing content I had a handle on the day prior. School got so bad that I couldn't even make sense of the content or follow instructions. I would cry in frustration and just break down because I couldn't even read properly, I would re read paragraphs over and over which felt like I was trying to understand a foreign language. My grades took a plunge and I was put on academic probation so if I dropped to an average below 60 I would be required to discontinue from my program.
I had also dumped a significant amount of money in natural and herbal sleep remedies from naturopath stores. Teas, tinctures, capsules, topicals, essential oils, melatonin, I tryptophan, gaba, magnesium, st johns wart, valerian root, 5-htp, Epsom salt baths, bedtime yoga, sleep podcasts, binerial and sleep music, meditation, exercise, reading, no screen time, warm milk, weighted blankets, even the comfort of having my partner next to me in bed when we could spend time together on weekends offered no benefit.
This horror of insomnia impacted me so significantly that I failed 3 classes and am currently on a year leave from school so I can get my mental health back to baseline.
My psychiatrist also tried me on clonidine, respiradone and mirtazapine to which had no impact on my ability to sleep and caused even more negative side effects, heck my friend even gave me her olanzapine to try and one time I even found a trazedone to try out of despiration and to no avail I felt like I exhausted all options.
The clonidine took all my strength I was basically crawling to try and go up the stairs in my apartment and my vision would go almost completely white, ears would ring, my legs and feet would go purple and I felt like I was going to die. They lower your blood pressure and I was taking more of the reccomended dose because I thought the more I took the better it would work because at one point it was helping me sleep on .3 mg. That didn't last.
My psych also increased my lamotrigine to 200mg before bed to see if that would aid in my sleep issues. My citalipram which is taken in the morning is maxed out at 40mg. 200mg of the lamotrigine provided no change and my mood was stable at 100mg so I went back down to my normal dose and discontinued the 200mg.
However, after the unsuccessful trials with those meds he was adement on pushing and pushing with the quetapine and had me taking a combination of quick and extended release.
I asked for Ativan or zoplicone because I had been on it before for insomnia and panic attacks from a my family doctor in the past but my psychiatrist wouldn't budge and did not want me on benzos. I was feeling hopeless. I used those medications only when absolutely necessary in the past and I found if I was able to get a couple nights of good rest with those, I could benefit from having a normal active day which ultimately left me in a better sleep routine because even just a couple days of good rest was able to reset me for a while until the insomnia started up again.
I opted to speak to smother family doctor because I had to take a plane so I asked for Ativan again as I have an extreme fear of flying so he prescribed me 4 .5 mg of sublingual Ativan and wrote on my file to never prescribe them to me again. Like what?? I don't even drink alcohol anymore or use drugs, not even weed and no previous benzo abuse.
I even reached out to another physician to ask for sleeping meds and a second opinion to which he told me he doesn't want to trump a psychiatrists advice, and I should be lucky to even have a psychiatrist. So there was no hope there.
Here is when things started to improve over the last few weeks:
I take dextrogen for ADHD (I've only been on it for about 6 months so it could have been an antagonist to the insomnia but since it has gone on prior to stimulants I don't think it's fully to blame thus far) and one day my pharmacy was out of genetic so they gave me name brand. I noticed that my side affects were almost completely relieved after switching. They were way easier on my guts and I wasn't having profuse diariah all day as I would with the generic, my appetite was stable and I had less feelings of agitation and nervousness and I did notice when it wore off it was a clean transition and I was even feeling sleepy and could nap if I was able to when on them so I asked them to permanently switch me to name brand.
They ended up making ALL my meds name brand (citalipram, lamotrigine, dextrogen and quetiapine). So I tried 150 mg of the name brand quetiapine one night and it worked like a charm! I was able to fall asleep effortlessly and had a solid sound sleep without waking in the night. Also did not experience the lingering sedation and lethargy the morning after as I would with the generic quetapine. Surprisingly the intense urge to snack also improved because I simply slept after taking It, not half dead and mindlessly munching all night.
I'm not sure if it is a placebo or perhaps whatever was causing my prolonged bout of insomnia is temporarily lifted, but I just wanted to share my experience so if anyone is in the same boat with quetapine and the inability to fall asleep even after taking it! It has literally saved my life and I feel like I'm human again. It's only been a few weeks but I feel great.
I'm also curious if anyone has the same experience so maybe it's not a placebo after all!
Maybe generic or name brand both don't work for your insomnia, but I feel like with the right medication there is hope. I'm also curious if anyone has tried other alternatives for their insomnia and which medication is working for them.
