Session 1 "The Apartment" (May 24th, 2024)
New York: Tuesday, August 8th, 1995
1:45pm - 3:32pm, EST
Entering the lobby of the Macallistar building in Kips Bay, NYC, the Agents first make a sweep of Abigail's mailbox. Agent MARCUS (M-Cell Case Officer) provided them with a complete set of keys, not to be copied. The mailbox is stuffed full with bills, junk mail, catalogues and offers; mail still being delivered by people who have no idea Abigail is missing. MAVERICK gathers it in a bag and they make their way to Abigail's apartment (Ground floor).
The Macallistar echoes an earlier age. Faded purple carpeting and design from the turn of the century. Opposite Abigail's front door is an old-fashioned telephone nook, complete with bench and curtain for comfort and privacy when phone-lines in individual apartment was an expense few could afford.
M-Cell enters the apartment, finding it somewhere between a hoarder's dream and crime-scene technician's nightmare. The small hallway leads to a living-room (the apartment's largest space), an adjoining bedroom and a kitchen and bathroom opposite each other. Aside from the hallway, on first inspection the only other uncluttered space is the kitchen, which doesn't really look as if it's been used much. MAVERICK ear-marks that as something he wants to check himself as the team begin taking stock.
The NYPD has left a box with copies of their files, including a list of tenants they interviewed, many, many evidence collection bags and a box of latex gloves.
The apartment is filled with various items, with almost no floor visible beneath the collection. CDs and CD cases are stuck or glued to the wall, along with mannequin parts, sketches and assorted pieces that might be ceramic or plastic arranged in odd patterns without reason or rhyme. Stacks of phone books, stretches of dyed fabrics stitched together, an antique claw-footed lamp. Bags, bundles of pictures (drawings and photographs) of seeming nonsense. No furniture is immediately visible in the chaotic mess.
MAIN finds the same result in the bedroom as the first Search rolls are called for. Something catches his eye in the anarchy of the bedroom.
MALATESTA begins sorting through the pile of mail. MILHOUSE at first begins helping, but seeing the scale of the cataloguing, volunteers to make a coffee and food run. MIRANDA begins photographing, while MAVERICK gloves up and asks for things to be passed to him such as brushes, anything with a handle really or something more likely to have fingerprints on it. He wants to see if he can grab a set of Abigail's prints, if that's possible.
It doesn't take MALATESTA long to work out Abigail stopped paying her rent and bills in or around March before disappearing in June. Money was coming in up to a certain point, apparently from a showing Abigail had at the Mercury Gallery in Greenwich Village in November the previous year. There's even a letter from the gallery owner asking about another possible showing; from the way it's written, it might not have been the first time he spoke to Abigail before she vanished. Then, the only money coming in appears to be from her father, though she doesn't appear to have used it to cover the rent. He also gets the building management company, Art Life and their address.
As the Agents work, with MAIN carefully picking his way through the bedroom towards whatever caught his eye and MAVERICK uncovers a battery-powered hi-fi under all the trash, MILHOUSE returns from his coffee run and bumps into someone else entering the Macallistar at the same time he is. After an awkward hesitation on the threshold, MILHOUSE spends a little chatting to Lewis Post, one of Abigail's neighbours. MILHOUSE passes a HUMINT roll and I ruled that having spent most of his time in academics and his fellow PhDs, he can spot signs of some kind of social anxiety. I felt that was a fair get for a good success.
Lewis is hesitant but forthcoming as MILHOUSE works that high charisma score, knowing what to say to diffuse any potential tension. As far as Lewis knows, he is FBI of some kind after all.
MILHOUSE: "Did she ever mention a boyfriend? Girlfriend?"
Lewis: "Our relationship wasn't really like that. We had coffee sometimes. Talked about art. The process." He thinks. "She might have mentioned someone, but not a name, only what they did. A salesman, but I couldn't tell you what they sold."
MILHOUSE: "Talk about anything else?"
Lewis begins heading upstairs "She mentioned moving, but not before she was ready."
Back in the apartment, MAIN voices what others were thinking. "Where was she staying?" No bed, no signs of habitation except for the assorted hoard of crap. MAIN finds a hand grenade nestled in some papers and art supplies near the bedroom's walk-in closet.
In the living room, MAVERICK finds a single cassette tape in the uncovered hi-fi and flips it on, finding the batteries still live. Everyone hears MAVERICK's conversation with his significant other, Natalie from the previous evening. MAVERICK realises it's cut up and out of order, rewinds it and then flips it over. He thinks the entire conversation has been split between A & B sides of the tape.
MALATESTA and MAVERICK both consider phone-tapping, but MAIN, grenade temporarily forgotten, asks how it ended up here?
SAN check for MAVERICK. Pocketing the cassette tape, MAVERICK closes down a bit and prepares to go over the kitchen with a fine tooth comb; perhaps this is how he copes?
Before MAIN can mention the grenade he's worried about, MIRANDA, MALATESTA, MILHOUSE & MAVERICK notice something on the wall behind where the hi-fi was previously buried under junk. Fixed to the wall, maybe with some kind of glue is a piece of brown packing-paper with some kind of symbol drawn on it. Everyone focuses on it.

3:41pm to 5:22pm, EST
MALATESTA: "That certainly looks like what we're supposed to be worried about."
MIRANDA snaps a polaroid. MILHOUSE tries to examine it, but his Occult check can only give him the vague thought it's connected to demonology, but little else beyond that. MAVERICK is cautious, but more concerned about getting to work on the unusually spotless kitchen.
Carefully, MIRANDA removes it and a blaring sounds like something between a horn blast and explosion almost deafens the Agents. It seems to come from everywhere and nowhere, from right next to them and outside at the same time.
Everyone passes a CONx5 check and the subsequent SAN check. Through the living room's window, MIRANDA, MILHOUSE and MAIN see a yellow-cab in the street outside. The cabbie appears to have leaned on the horn as someone crosses the street. They appear heavily dressed for summer, possibly homeless.
Is that a snake draped across their shoulders?
MIRANDA takes a polaroid while MILHOUSE and MAIN head outside to investigate. The picture reveals in sharp clarity, the cabbie staring down the barrel as she snapped the shot directly at her. MAVERICK gets to work in the kitchen and MALATESTA picks over things in the living room and bedroom respectively.
Search rolls for those in the apartment.
Outside, the cab has turned the corner and the pedestrian has carried on, though MAIN and MILHOUSE are able to work out where they went. MILHOUSE heads to cut off the other side of the alley, while MAIN approaches from behind, getting the pedestrian's attention. It's the height of summer in NYC, the air reeks of gasoline, rotting garbage and baking, soiled concrete and asphalt.
MAIN finds a nondescript, seemingly homeless man by the state of his clothes, but with a python draped over his shoulders. MAIN strikes up conversation, lighting a Gitane cigarette and pointing to the snake. From the other end of the alley, MILHOUSE makes his way towards the pair.
MAIN fails an alertness check.
Is this guy sweating? It's hot and he's bundled up like it's winter. Is he sweating? Why isn't he sweating?
Back in the apartment, MAVERICK tests the kitchen for blood and body fluids, breaking out the spray bottle and UV light. There's no cutlery, glassware or dishware anywhere in the room, but as he's lifting what could be a print, finds a mechanical diagram drawn on a napkin taped above the inside of an otherwise empty drawer. MALATESTA & MIRANDA continue their search of the living and bedroom, with MALATESTA finding a card printed with the following:
"For a good time Call D - 999-202-9989"
On the reverse are a series of what appear to be street corner addresses in Brooklyn. Could be a sex-line, could be a way to see Red Band underground film screenings, could be something online related. MALATESTA drifts between a few circles and he pockets it out of curiosity. When MIRANDA locates the grenade in the bedroom, she is careful to give it a wide berth and locates what MAIN missed: a backpack radio in the bedroom's walk-in closet. She calls MALATESTA over.
Back in the alleyway, MILHOUSE rolls under 10% and passes his disguise check. Dressed casually and a college athlete to boot, he fits the general chad look in his New York Knicks shirt despite his academic leanings. Being loud and obnoxious like he's drunk, he barrels into the homeless guy with the snake who stonewalled MAIN.
Instead he hits MAIN as the man with the snake is there and gone in the space between blinks. One moment MAIN is looking at him and then MILHOUSE knocks him flat on his ass. Like a film edit. Just gone. MAIN crit fails his SAN check and takes 4 SAN loss without projecting. Instead, as he scrambles up begins kicking over trash cans and searching the alley while MILHOUSE tries to calm him down and get a handle on things.
As MILHOUSE is talking MAIN out of tearing the alley apart, MIRANDA and MALATESTA check out the radio. As it comes to life, they listen and hear the following:
"Exeter. India. One. Thirteen. Sierra. Twenty. Twenty. Forty-nine."
MAVERICK meanwhile, finding the kitchen bare oddly finds the refrigerator stocked. There isn't much inside, some milk unopened and a pack of cheese and deli meat. Expiration is months ago, but through the plastic and glass of the bottle it looks fresh. Curious, he opens the milk and finds it smells as fresh as the day it was bought. Months ago.
Passes his SAN check. Given what he heard on the tape, it's not the strangest thing today.
MAIN and MILHOUSE detour to grab some more coffees, more to calm MAIN down and give him a (successful CHAx5 check) to flirt with the coffeeshop waitress. On their return, MAIN heads into the bedroom, pulls the pin on the grenade and activates the firing lever.
Nothing happens. His "hunch" was correct. Despite failing to properly identify it, something about the shape of it didn't match modern ordnance. Like the radio, it's vintage and either deactivated or else rendered inert by time and age.
I gave MAIN a SAN point back, because why not?
As things begin winding down, MILHOUSE and MAVERICK puzzle over the weird fridge, with MILHOUSE sacrificing his green tea and MAVERICK a donut to see how "fresh" they are come morning between the fridge and not.

After 6pm, EST
Between them, M-Cell take the rest of the evening to take care of home-scenes or any unfinished business they can get done with their resources at hand. They also divide the Operational evidence from the Case evidence, with MIRANDA taking the symbol, MALATESTA the backpack radio & phone number, MAVERICK the cassette tape (for obvious reasons) and MAIN the mechanical sketch on the napkin.
MIRANDA and MILHOUSE, using the former's academic credentials both stay on the case, with MIRANDA leaving her photos from the park to develop in her bathroom. While she fails her roll, she does help MILHOUSE identify the demon the symbol refers to and book-related lead. She hits up a criminal contact named Hugo to put out feelers for weird items she may be interested in. He agrees for a fee, which she negotiates in her favour.
Returning to her apartment, MIRANDA finds her photos of the dancing clown and watching crowd have developed. In every photograph, the clown is turned away from her, but the faces in the crowd are looking at her. That's not how she remembers it. Fails a SAN check. Projects on to her editor, knowing she's going to be taking a "personal day" tomorrow, and this after she agreed to go to the grill.
This will have consequences.
MAIN, unnerved by the day's events, not the least of which was being knocked on his ass by a fitter, younger man, heads out. He returns to the coffeeshop he and MILHOUSE visited and takes the waitress he hit on out on a date. After a romantic interlude, MAIN has a new bond. Her name's Marsha, she's 27 and very nice.
Breaking Operational Security, MAVERICK asks MALATESTA to come back to his apartment and check for possible surveillance. Despite suffering comparatively little SAN loss overall, MAVERICK is letting the day's events impact his behaviour.
It's trivially easy for MALATESTA to confirm there are no bugs in place, which really does narrow the options for how the conversation could have been recorded. Thankful, he asks MALATESTA to keep this to himself for now, to which the grunge-kid agrees. MAVERICK drops MALATESTA near his home and leaves, putting the tape in the player of his car as he pulls away.
MALATESTA lives near the Village and diverts to check out the Mercury Gallery. Though closed, it seems legit and he makes a note of it for later. Back at home, he breaks open the backpack radio and examines it. The battery is not connected to the radio itself, the wires having been stripped out, yet he and MIRANDA both heard a voice on the end of its phone-mic. He passes his SAN check and finds in place of one of the transistors a small, black stone which does not feel like stone at all and feels like it's body temperature. MALATESTA leaves it on his desk, covered in a cloth.
Alone in his apartment, MAVERICK watches his phone. The time comes and he does not call Natalie. A moment later, his phone rings.
Alone in the apartment, MAVERICK does not answer.

Post-Mortem
We ended up playing for a touch longer than I intended, but I knew that would happen by the time the cab sounded its horn. Despite some tiredness and some drinking, we ended up with a really strong session in retrospect, which has set the overall tone of the campaign for me as GM going forward. Between the five players, two have been through one Delta Green campaign, one has experience with Pulp Cthulhu and two have varying levels of exposure. They all roleplayed the f##k out of their characters and while I was worried about just how weird I wanted things to get out the gate, it feels like the balance is correct and I've given enough avenues for further investigation they may want to pursue.
I got a far better sense, as did the players, as to what drives and motivates their characters and how they cope or don't cope with Delta Green work.
MILHOUSE is definitely setting himself up as the curious academic, Iain playing his interest as forever drawn towards what's there "to discover," he said in character. Perhaps a fool and his sanity are easily parted?
MAVERICK is the "all-American", Agent Cooper adjacent FBI Agent who butts up against the para-natural and is seemingly rocked by it, revealing a complicated and perhaps conflicted depth. In his previous operation with MIRANDA, MAVERICK killed one person, but something about this has gotten under his skin. I wonder what Natalie thinks about their missed call?
A hacker by trade, MALATESTA likes a puzzle as much as he does not like the "weird shit." He talks a good talk when it's about something he knows, but is much too shy to chat up his co-worker. He and MAVERICK had some friction in Session 0 when MAVERICK wanted to call him Mal, to which the younger man pushed back against. Yet, he now knows where MAVERICK lives. Maybe he can learn more? What will he do with that? Does he even want to?
As much as MILHOUSE, MIRANDA is likewise driven by curiosity and a need to know, but first and foremost to keep herself safe. She and him are not the same. There's a scar above her hip from a knife, and it still twinges from time to time. She's also the first to directly or indirectly involve a Bond in the investigation. I wonder what Hugo will or won't find? I wonder what those photos mean. MIRANDA wondered aloud whether the crowd or the clown was the "entity." What does that mean?
Despite being built like Jack Reacher (albeit in a sailor suit), MAIN projects a tough air but is clearly a man at the crossroads. He turns 40 before 1995 ends; middle age. When hit with a problem or something he can't otherwise work out, his behaviour swings from one extreme to the other. To date, he's coped with the case by: lashing out at trash cans in an alley. Chatting up a waitress and forming a romantic bond with her. Pulling the pin on a grenade he "thought" could be fake. It's day one. I'm here for it.
Our next session is scheduled for June 7th, 2024.
Until then, be seeing you.

2024.05.28 21:15 ThrowRA_sillygrape I (22f) found out my bf (22m) has private photos of his ex on his phone. What do I do?

3 months ago, my boyfriend, we'll call him Cameron is in the army. When he was at drill I wanted to look for photos of us on his Ipad that I hadn't seen before. We're open and both ok with each other looking at our devices it isn't something we have to ask permission for. When I was on his Ipad, however, I found over 80 deleted photos of girls on OF. The same 3 girls (which to me is cheating if it's OF bc it's specific people. He is aware of this.) I also found naked photos and videos of he and his ex doing things. (They broke up about a year and a half ago we've been dating for 7 months and have lived together for 4 months.) I knew about his ex as we were best friends before dating and l've been in his friend group for a long time before we realized we liked each other. But seeing those things ripped me to shreds. I didn't watch the videos, but it was very obvious they were there. I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat. I called him endlessly until he picked up the next morning (i started calling at 10pm, he picked up at 5am). Yes I know it's crazy, but I needed him to tell me it was a mistake and he didn't realize they were there. After all it was on his Ipad, not his phone, right? Granted I've never looked on his phone for now I'm too scared.
Anyways he cleared the air and talked me down. He didn't seem like he was caught in a trap and he told me he didn't realize they were still there and he didn't use that app often (It wasn't the regular photos app it was one you have to download) and I believe him. I truly believe him. So the fight ended, but my confidence is no longer present and I have a bunch of new found insecurities thanks to this mistake he's made.
Fast forward to last weekend. I told him I was going to look on his Ipad again while he was at drill. Because he never explicitly showed me he deleted the stuff. And frankly my insecurities are getting the best of me and it is a wedge in our relationship and l've been hating myself. Yet he is great. Always says the right things, is always calm and level headed and lets me be angry at him if I feel the need to be. We always communicate instead of making any rash decisions. But he told me it was ok to go through his Ipad again. The reason I hadn't earlier is because of fear I'm going to accidentally find something again I don't want to find. Please let me be wrong.
This time, however, I was on a mission. I needed to search everywhere to be sure he wasn't hiding things to hurt me. I didn't talk to him about doing this until literally 5 minutes before I did so he couldn't have gone and swept the Ipad clean, he was 3 hours away from me in another state. Everything was looking good. I could feel myself coming back, but then, I went onto the notes app. It was right before I was going to turn off the Ipad I remembered that the notes app exists. Everything was looking good, until there was a note full of usernames that was made/edited in February, right after our last fight. So I looked them up on instagram first, 2 came up. One looked like she was realllly searching for attention in hot photos and wearing little to nothing. Ok that stung a bit. The other was nothing major he and a bunch of his friends followed the account, looked like someone he went to school with. Then I searched on google. They were all Only Fans usernames. I broke down. The girl who looked like she was a friend from school, we'll call her Alyssa was on there. She has liked photos of he and I together on instagram.
I confronted him again. He told me he didn't even know the notes page existed. It must have been from before we were dating when he was "desperate" and did go on only fans often. I asked about Alyssa. He said they were friends and he's known her for a super long time. That made it even worse. He thought he was making it better, but it just killed me. Someone he knows in person and still claims to be friends with, he's seen her body and WANTS to see her body. I don't know if I believe him this time. I'm broken and hurt and frankly I don't know if I will recover from this. The pain is unbearable and I can't get Alyssa out of my brain. I followed her on instagram, forced him to unfollow her and he put up a fight about it. He hasn't put up a fight about anything else at all. Ever. Not this fight or the last It was pretty much just me. But I hate her and can't get her out of my head.
Any advice or opinions on what I should do?

2024.05.28 20:34 Melodic_Spell8979 Person telling me to end my life

So I just friended a person on insta and discord. And they send explicit pictures and videos that are shock content and I was incredibly uncomfortable and I blocked him, once I blocked him. He told me to “kill yourself Mexican” he was racist and said some slurs that I don’t wanna show you guys because of the gruesome pictures that he sent and a porn video of a brown man laying down naked and i can’t describe it because of how dirty the video is. He keeps sending me pictures of his pets and his bird. I said “cute” and he kept sending more of his precious bird. It became annoying and after he send me his bird pictures, he sent me his two laptops that he told me one of their laptops are his old laptops and the other is his dad gifted him the laptop. Over the past 1 years, he’d been harassing my friend, let’s call her Jessica. She was harassed by my ex friend (whom I blocked) with his multiple accounts on instagram and discord. And somehow he found her phone number and texted her saying “fuck you bitch, that’s why your mom died and I’m fucking your mom”
This is really distasteful and disrespectful to her mother that died from cancer. He even made more accounts to keep harassing her more and more until her mental health declined and started to have suicidal thoughts. She cannot handle the stress of his harassment and his constant threats to her and her family members. We got his phone number and screenshot his accounts to warn people that he is a disgusting human being and a horrible person to be friends with. We keep blocking him on all of his social media accounts but he keeps making more and more accounts. One of his accounts is making fun of my friend Jessica and her face is on his account with a clown wig and nose edited. We reported his account but it never got taken down.
I’m asking all of you for advice about this situation. I dunno what he is doing but I bet he’s on another shock site and finding the disgusting shock video/photo or he’s editing another photo of Jessica, making fun of her and her mother’s death. Please I’m asking for advice about this situation.
I’m new to this subreddit but I’m trying my best to understand this app/website.

2024.05.28 20:16 CourierSix121 DBZ Retro Toys

Hi all, hope I’m asking in the right place. I’ve got a fairly big collection of retro DBZ mini and micro figures. Also have the Cloud Arena play set and I’m 99.9% sure I have all of the pieces.
I’ve looked everywhere online and I can’t seem to find out their value, could someone please let me know the best place to look? eBay has been dead end after dead end as so many of the items are missing from listings or the prices are so varied.
If someone that has expertise in this field, could you DM me and I could send over some photos?
EDIT - Scotland based, anyone that knows good toy shops in central Scotland would be a bonus

2024.05.28 17:54 secure-raspberry-763 I plan on showing up to a Boomer's place of work tomorrow to let him see how it feels.

I am not OP. That is u/metalslug53 who posted to BoomersBeingFools
TW: racism, slurs, sexism, verbal abuse and possible ageism
Original Post May 20th, 2024
I went into my local Walmart tonight for a quick grocery trip to pick up some stuff I was low on. Quick in and out trip, 15 minutes at most. Sad to say it didn't end up being a fast trip because when I arrived at checkout, I was stuck behind a Boomer who wanted to cause a scene.
The guy in front of me was with his wife, who were arguing loudly about God knows what. They had a substantial amount of stuff on the belt, including a few large bottles of various alcohols. When the Boomer scanned his way back to the bottles of alcohol, he froze and began searching around for an associate, who I presume he wanted to come and scan his ID.
The problem was that he didn't scan any of the bottles. He just locked up and stared directly at a girl who was busy at the monitor for the Self-Checkout registers the next aisle over. After about 30 - 45 seconds of not scanning anything, he loudly shouted "Excuse me" in his most condescending tone, followed by "Can you come and scan my fucking ID please?!"
His tactic worked, as the employee in question immediately whipped around and walked over. He was doing that typical arms-crossed bullshit, looking like everything was a giant inconvenience, and I will note, homie still hadn't scanned a single bottle of alcohol yet.
When this young woman was in speaking range, the Boomer began to lay into her. "It makes me real sick to see workers just standing around when they're on the clock doing nothing when people like me have schedules to keep. Can you do your fucking job please and scan my ID?"
"Excuse me?" she responded.
"You fucking heard me. Get off your goddamn phone and scan my card so I can get the hell out of here."
Now, I would like to note a few things about this interaction up to this point. First, this individual was still in a work outfit...a mechanic's onesie for a local mom-and-pop tire company that I won't name here, but one in which I know the owner pretty well. He's a family friend. Second, he was still wearing his name tag (Eric, somehow I hope you're competent enough to find your way here so you can see this story). Because of this, I knew how to address him.
Eventually he asks the cashier very rudely if she's going to scan his ID and she flat out tells him "No, I don't think so. Not after how you've treated me. You can talk with my manager." Good for her. She gets on a walkie and calls for a manager to come to the register the Boomer was towering over and briskly walked off towards the Customer Service counter at the front of the store. The Boomer starts loudly hollering about how this is all bullshit and he's just expressing his First Amendment rights.
It was at this point where I actually found some balls and decided to give my opinion, unsolicited, just so this guy could get an outside perspective on how much of a jackass he was being. "Excuse me, but the First Amendment doesn't protect you from looking like a douche bag to random strangers in Walmart when you treat other people like shit." The guy wheeled around and locked eyes with me. "What did you just say to me?" I just smirked and said "Oh, hard of hearing are we? I'm pretty sure you heard what I said."
The guy visibly shook on the spot. "This isn't any of your fuckin' business, so butt out!"
"I disagree. When I see someone acting like an asshole for no good reason, I make it a point to speak up. You seem to think that by stating that you have a First Amendment right means you can say whatever the hell you want without consequence, but that isn't how it works, sir. First Amendment protects you from government overreach for speaking your mind, but it doesn't protect you from the consequences you face from others for your words or your opinions."
"That's besides the point. I'm sick and fucking tired of these minorities doing nothing and getting a paycheck for it." He responded, rather loudly and unaware that there were quite a few people staring at this point. Hooray. Racism has entered the chat.
The manager showed up, and he starts in on how he scanned his alcohol and that the associate in question was VERY rude to him and refused to serve him. He started stating that she told him he wouldn't get help because he was white when I interjected again.
"Ma'am, that is NOT what happened. This gentleman didn't even scan any of his alcohol and immediately started shouting down at your employee, just for the sake of being upset. He was rude, unpleasant, and even made unnecessary racial comments."
He wheeled around at me again and yelled "Shut the fuck up and mind your business!" before going on the tirade again. Something something lazy workers, something something First Amendment and speaking his mind.
"You know, this is very unfair of you." I started again. "You've put that poor girl in an unwinnable situation. Now that you've raised this untrue complaint, her manager is going to have to have words with her even though she hasn't done anything wrong. Does that sound fair to you, Eric?" I don't think he realized he was still in uniform, because he looked at me puzzled at how I knew his name. "How would YOU feel if someone came into your place of business and told John a bunch of bullshit about how YOU were treating them unfairly when you knew perfectly well that it was a lie? Or even better, how would your boss react if he knew you were acting like this WHILE STILL IN UNIFORM with his place of business plastered all over your chest?" When he heard me say the name of his boss, he stopped cold. "Yes Eric. I know John VERY well, and I think I might be paying him a visit tomorrow. That is unless you decide to apologize to that girl for being a lying prick instead."
The guy then became very rushed and suddenly in a colossal hurry. He muttered something about people not minding their own business, to which I replied with "I'm just eXpReSsInG mY FiRSt AmEnDmENt RiGHts!" Spongebob sarcastic voice and all. He scanned one of the bottles and had the manager scan his ID. His wife started in about how I better not show up to his office tomorrow...something directed at me, but I wasn't paying her any attention and brushed her off. I was just staring at Eric and watching him bag.
Eventually, he got all of his stuff put in his basket and he marched out, but he didn't apologize to the manager or the employee and gave me a hearty "Go fuck yourself, asshole!" as he flipped me off. I scanned my groceries and paid for my merchandise, but man was I smiling from ear to ear.
Afterwards, I made it a point to go and speak with the manager and the employee in the Customer Service center. As expected, the manager was having a conversation with the employee about that customer, and she thanked me for speaking up. I've worked retail before, so I know what it's like having to deal with assholes like Eric. It'd be a cold day in hell before I let a Boomer bully an employee then weasel his way into a victim role with management. Not on my fucking watch.
So now my next play is to show up to this tire shop tomorrow. I really hope Eric is there. I hope he's the opener. I'm going to walk in and just smile at him. Ask to see his manager. Then I think I'm going to go in and just weave the NICEST story about how he treated the employees at Walmart, so much so that I was compelled to stop in and tell his boss that he has a real winner on his hands, and that I'm a customer for life now.
Maybe that way, he might get a message. MAYBE, he will realize that I could have started a whole shitstorm for him, but I chose not to, because unlike him, I'm not a fucking dickhead.
tl;dr *(For the upset Boomers in this thread who don't like reading, it seems): Boomer got big mad for no reason and berated a Walmart employee while he himself was wearing his work uniform. I'll be paying his boss, a family friend, a visit tomorrow to discuss his employee's behavior while still representing his place of work.
Update May 21st, 2024
Proof I was here. (As I stated in the first thread, I will not be disclosing this location to any of you. Took as neutral of a photo as I could. If you live here, MAYBE you'll recognize it. Take it for what it is, I guess.)
Link to part one.
Before we begin, let me start by saying WOW, simply because when I passed out last night, I was hovering around ~350 upvotes and had a steady trickle of interaction with people. I was doing my best to respond to the comments as they came in. Then, when I woke up this morning, ya'll...I had over 1500 messages in my inbox and the thread has fucktupled in upvotes, just overnight. I'm so sorry if I didn't respond to you...it was a fool's errand to try and get to everyone.
I also want to address specifically a small handful of you...the ones I was certain would show up in the comments to basically call me a liar or say my story was fabricated. Some of the reasons you gave were pretty telling. My favorite was when someone said something along the lines of "This is too well-written to be true." What a world we live in where clear dictation automatically disqualifies a recounting of events from being accurate. I'll admit that it read closer to a novel than anything else, but that's just how I dictate I guess.
Anyways, onto the update.
I arrived at the tire shop just a hair after 8:00am. There was one gentleman in line at the counter when I arrived, but he was already being assisted by one of the associates manning the register. I took a look around and peeked my head in the back office area where I knew John typically worked when he wasn't being pulled into a bay.
John wasn't there.
As I walked towards the sitting area, I happened to ask an employee who was walking by if he knew when John would be in today. He told me John usually arrives a bit before 9:00am when he worked mornings, so I should just chill for a bit. I didn't have anything pressing to attend to today, so I did just that.
As I moved towards a seat, I happened to glance outside at the working bays and noticed my ol' buddy Eric, who was currently walking towards the main building. When he saw me, I watched as his head drooped down and I could visibly see him mutter the word "Fuck" under his breath. He stopped for just a second, shook his head, and continued walking towards the building.
When he came inside, he set a packet with what I presume was a customer order on the counter and said something to the clerk at the register. He hesitated for a moment and walked over to where I was sitting. As he approached, I greeted him with "Morning, Eric." and smiled. He just stood over me for a moment before he took a chair across the coffee table that was sitting in front of me.
Wonder what his next move was?
Honestly, I didn't expect it, but the dude opened with "I owe you an apology."
Color me shocked, I guess.
Now, you see...at this point about a billion things began to run around in my head. MOSTLY, for some reason, the things that ran most prominently through my mind were all the calls for bloodshed that popped up in the last thread. All the claims that Boomers can never learn and the only language they knew was bullying, which were thrown at me like mortars practically every step I took. Ya'll were bloodthristy last night and still were this morning, convinced that this gentleman was a drunkard asshat, but do drunk asshats apologize after doing something wrong?
Back to the story.
He continued on, saying that he didn't just owe ME an apology, but also the cashier he yelled at last night, and how he had actually planned on returning to Walmart on his lunch break to see if she was working so he could apologize to her as well. In his words "I've been dealing with a lot of personal shit in my life recently including the loss of a loved one, and I took that out on ya'll last night and it wasn't right."
Right about this time is when I noticed that John had arrived. He walked in through the door behind where Eric and I were sitting and walked straight into the back area I checked before. We will get to that later.
Guys, I honestly had no idea what to do. On one hand yes, this dude was a raging douchebag to that girl last night, but this felt genuine. I mentioned several times in the first thread that I didn't want to react hastily and this is exactly why. Had I gone in there and thrown a colossal fit and started a shitstorm, I don't know if this would have ended the same.
Anyways, I don't wish to grandstand things further. The guy apologized, I stood up and shook his hand, and I simply told him "Be good to people for no reason, man. Kindness is free and isn't a sign of weakness." We chatted a bit and had a bit of a revelation that Eric and I have a distant connection neither of us really knew about. I won't disclose what or how we knew each other for personal reasons.
Then John came out of the back office.
He recognized me and gave me a hug. Asked what I was in for. I basically told him that I ran into Eric at the store last night and wanted to check in on him and get an update on an issue he was having there.
That's when John said "Yeah, Eric I need to talk to you about that. I had a lady call me about something that happened at Walmart you were involved in."
Oh shit. I'm guessing either the manager or the cashier called John after what happened last night. I guess the ball isn't in my court any longer.
Eric gave a deep sigh and basically told John "I was a shithead to a cashier last night because I was in a hurry. I wasn't thinking and it wasn't right. I'm gonna make it right at lunch time. I hope she's working today." John then said something I didn't catch and him and Eric walked into the back room.
That's it. End of story. I took a scrap from a notebook, jotted down my "proof" and snapped a photo, then jumped in my car and left.
I certainly hope that this brings you guys whatever closure you were looking for. I'm certain some of you aren't going to be happy with how this turned out, given how many pitchforks I saw last night. But after all this, all I can say is to not be so hasty when jumping to conclusions. People are people, ya'll. You can't really be sure what someone is going through before you jump to judgment. Some folks don't know how to ask for forgiveness or don't know how to take responsibility for their actions, but some folks can. I'm glad this resolved itself the way it did. John knows what happened and knows that it happened with his business on full display, so he can now CHOOSE how HE reacts with that information. I got the closure I needed, and I hope the cashier does too. Time will tell in that regard, I suppose.
Be good to each other.
EDIT: I'm present in the comments, trying to interact with as many of you as I can. But comments are coming in so fast I can't keep up. Sorry!
EDIT 2: Still getting a tidal wave of comments. The inbox is filling up rapidly. I am now turning off notifications and calling it a day. Thanks for all the input! Lots of love!
EDIT 3: Inbox replies disabled, but I'm still surfing comments. It's wild to me that SO MANY PEOPLE are upset that this didn't play out the way they hoped. Guys, I'm not saying Eric is a saint here. I'm not saying what he did was excusable. But I absolutely refuse to try and add any more suffering to the situation than has already been dealt. Some of you want me to return and get this guy fired. Some of you want me to post his info online. None of this will be happening. I consider this story done and there will be no further interjection on my part. I know some of you won't like that response (hell, some of you have already taken to insinuating that I'm excusing racism in the comments. Big yikes, guys.), but this is where things end with me.
Reflect on your own feelings after reading this. A whole lot of you are still angry. But a whole lot of you are happy with how things played out. I'm personally glad where things end. Whether or not that makes me a fool, naive, or an idiot is your opinion to have I guess, but I can walk away from this knowing that my presence extracted an apology. That's good enough for me.
Keep being kind. It's genuinely a real-life superpower. The universe rewards kindness in kind.

🚨 Google AI Overview gives dangerous and wrong answers

Google's AI Overviews feature, which generates AI-powered responses to user queries, has been providing incorrect and sometimes bizarre answers. From suggesting glue on pizza, staring at sun for health benefits to claiming that former US President Barack Obama is Muslim, the feature has left users questioning the reliability of AI-generated search results.
While Google maintains that these mistakes result from uncommon queries and are being used to refine the product, the technology's widespread deployment has highlighted the challenges and risks of integrating AI into search engines.

Why does this matter?
Other companies, such as OpenAI, Meta, and Perplexity, have also experienced issues with AI hallucinations and mistakes. Companies must prioritize the development of robust safeguards and rigorous testing to ensure that AI-powered search results meet the high standards users expect from traditional search engines.

🚀 GPT-4 is a better financial analysts than humans

In a groundbreaking study, researchers at the University of Chicago have discovered that GPT-4, a large language model, can analyze financial statements and predict future earnings direction with remarkable accuracy. Even without narrative context, GPT-4 outperforms human financial analysts and achieves prediction accuracy on par with state-of-the-art machine learning models.
The AI model's success is not simply a result of its training memory but rather its ability to generate valuable narrative insights about a company's future performance. Notably, trading strategies based on GPT-4's predictions yield higher returns and risk-adjusted performance than those based on other models, especially for small companies.
Why does this matter?
This study shows that AI is more than just a support tool in financial decision-making. It can also be central to financial analysis and enable non-experts to make informed decisions, which may change how financial markets operate.

What Else Is Happening in AI on May 28th 2024❗

🇪🇺 The EU's data protection task force has released preliminary findings on ChatGPT's GDPR compliance

While the group remains undecided on key legal issues, it suggested that "adequate safeguards" and "precise collection criteria" could help OpenAI meet the requirements. However, the AI giant's move to Ireland may benefit from the country's business-friendly approach to GDPR enforcement. (Link: https://techcrunch.com/2024/05/27/eus-chatgpt-taskforce-offers-first-look-at-detangling-the-ai-chatbots-privacy-compliance)

📱 French startup AniML has launched Doly, an iPhone app simplifying 3D product video creation

Doly uses AI to estimate the 3D shape of an object from regular 2D photos, and then it applies a technique called Gaussian splatting to create a high-quality 3D model suitable for use in product videos. Users can capture a 3D model, choose a template from the library, and integrate their object into a 3D scene. (Link: https://techcrunch.com/2024/05/27/doly-lets-you-generate-3d-product-videos-from-your-phone)

🎧 Iyo, an Alphabet X spinout, will release the Iyo One, a pair of gen AI earbuds

The Iyo One will be released this winter, starting at $599, and aims to succeed, whereas competitors like Humane's Ai Pin and Rabbit's R1 have struggled. It integrates LLM-based models for a more sophisticated AI experience. Iyo's founder, Jason Rugolo, believes the Iyo One will provide value through its sound isolation, comfort, and music quality, in addition to its AI features.(Link: https://techcrunch.com/2024/05/27/iyo-thinks-its-gen-ai-earbuds-can-succeed-where-humane-and-rabbit-stumbled)

💳 Mastercard integrates AI to catch compromised cards faster

Mastercard is rolling out an AI update to its fraud-prediction technology to identify compromised credit and debit cards before criminals use them. By analyzing patterns and contextual data, the AI can proactively flag stolen cards, allowing banks to replace them and protect customers from fraudulent transactions. (https://apnews.com/article/mastercard-visa-ai-credit-card-fraud-detection-0c348818087a57b13bfac66c761e03b4)

🧮 Peter Thiel, former PayPal CEO, believes AI will worse for math minds more than writers

Thiel states that Silicon Valley in the 21st century is too biased towards math people. Thiel explained that the exact reason for ‘AI being not able to overtake human creativity,’ is not clear bets on getting worse.”He concludes that AI is not yet good at math, although its capabilities are increasing, as shown by ChatGPT scoring 96% in a UK A-level math paper with the Wolfram plug-in. (Link: https://www.financialexpress.com/life/technology-former-paypal-ceo-says-ai-may-be-good-at-maths-but-it-cant-be-a-great-writernbsp-3503476)
AI researcher Kai-Fu Lee doubled down on his 2017 prediction that AI would displace 50% of jobs by 2027, saying white collar jobs will be eliminated faster than blue collar work.

🚀OpenAI begins training new frontier model, creates safety committee

  • OpenAI confirmed in a blog post it has "recently begun training its next frontier model," likely to be called ChatGPT-5, which will "bring us to the next level of capabilities on our path to AGI."
  • The company has also established a Safety and Security Committee led by CEO Sam Altman, along with board members Bret Taylor, Adam D’Angelo, and Nicole Seligman.
  • The committee’s first task is to evaluate and recommend enhancements to OpenAI's safety practices within 90 days, after which the company will share an update publicly following the board's review.
  • OpenAI sets up safety committee as it starts training new model Reuters

2024.05.28 16:28 itsabearcannon [USA-IA] [H] Alienware M16 R1 (13700HX, 4070, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD) [W] PayPal

EDIT: PRICE ADJUSTED

First off, proof and confirmation.
Additional benchmark and spec data here
Just upgraded to a desktop, so hoping my Alienware can go to a good home. Full spec information is below:
Component Info
CPU Intel Core i7-13700HX - 8 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores, 24 threads, 5.0 GHz max boost
RAM 2x16GB (32GB Total) TEAM Group DDR5-4800 CL34 SO-DIMM
SSD 2TB Samsung 980 PRO, fully updated so there's no firmware bugs, 0.19 TB written (1200 TBW rated) and 100% drive health according to CDI
GPU NVIDIA RTX 4070 8GB Mobile, 140W TGP
Display QHD+ (2560x1600) 165Hz
Keyboard Alienware M-Series per-key RGB backlit
Ports RJ-45 gigabit Ethernet, 2x USB Type A (5 Gbps) , 2x Thunderbolt 4, 1x HDMI 2.1, 1x Mini DisplayPort, 1x SD card slot, 1x Dell DC power jack
Color Dark Metallic Moon
Additional Extras The second M.2 2280 SSD heatsink and retention bracket has been purchased and installed in this unit, and normally does not come standard on machines with only one SSD. That means you can install a second 2280 NVMe drive right away with no issues.
This laptop was exclusively used on a desk shelf connected to a docking station, which is part of why I decided a desktop would be a better use of the space. It was thoroughly babied the entire time, and should have no significant cosmetic damage including scratches, dings, or dents. Photos are included of all sides so you can judge the condition for yourself, but I'd place it at a solid 9/10.
Interesting thing to note about the M16 R1 - the CPU choices are generally more powerful than the CPU choices available on the m16 R2, with the corresponding Core Ultra 7 155H on the new R2 scoring lower on both single- and multi-threaded benchmarks due to the decrease in performance cores and total thread count. The 13700HX is 8P/8E/24T, while the 155H is 6P/10E/22T total. Worth considering if you work with heavily multi-threaded workloads.
Pricing for this exact SKU is harder to find on eBay since this is not a common configuration, but from what I've been able to find in the sold listings and comparable Dell Refurbished Outlet machines I'm looking for around

$1200 shipped.

The laptop comes with the original Dell 330W charger, original box, and original manuals, and will ship via tracked and insured (at buyer's request) USPS Priority Mail.
Let me know if you have any questions, and please comment before PMing so I know you're not banned. Thanks for looking!

2024.05.28 15:20 HomeBrewDude Mockoon: Open Source Mock API Tool For Testing No-Code / Low-Code Platforms

I have been using Mockoon a lot lately, whenever I need a quick API to test out new platforms, and just realized it would be useful to share here for everyone. Mockoon is an open-source mock API tool that you can run on your local machine, but they also have a new API playground.
https://mockoon.com/playground/
This is great for testing out API features in a no-code / low-code platform because it supports full CRUD operations without requiring an account or API key. There are mock datasets for contacts, photos, todos, etc, and the API lets create, edit, delete data (temporarily) so you see the expected API response.
Disclosure: I do not work for Mockoon but I’ve done a few videos on it, and I know the founder, so I may be slightly biased. But I genuinely believe this is a useful resource for this community!

2024.05.28 15:11 Specialist-Usual-131 I went out on a date and people here really inflate their looks

I met this redditor around last year pa because I got off a 4 year relationship. At that time, I felt sad. So I decided to use reddit because I wasn't ready to use dating apps. I've been lurking in reddit, and I decided to meet someone because I saw a post from phr4friends group. Her post was genuine. She was looking for a relationship, not just playing around and having fun. Her post indicated qualifications and I thought, hey, I fit the description. I was looking for someone to date, not just to fuck around and party and etc. I decided to give a message to her.
In her post, she described herself as a 9/10. She also said that she was 5'7. She works out and is fit. Surface level, she is DEFINITELY my type. I thought she was attractive and tall, but lmao I was so wrong.
We talked and chatted and it was okay. After a day, we decided to exchange photos. I sent mine and she said I was cute and attractive. The photo I sent was not edited and it was a half-body pic. When she sent a pic, it was very edited photo. May filter, she was wearing makeup, and it was a selfie from a 70-80 degree angle. I was not able to see her full face. Kasi nga may filter pa and the angle was not good. ANYWAYS, I decided to meet her and give her the benefit of the doubt.
When we met in a mall, GOSH I WAS SO WRONG. SHE WASN'T EVEN 5'7 SHE WAS WAY SHORTER. Parang 5'5 lang siya with heels na. She doesn't even look fit. Parang sakto lang ung body na. Hard to describe but she's not fat but not thin. I would say around 55 to 60kgs siya, for a girl who is less than 5'5 without heels. ALSO SHE HAD REALLY BAD BREATH. Personally, she is not my type. I am not that attracted to her but I didn't know how to say it respectfully.
We went for coffee which I paid, and she invited me for dinner somewhere in BGC. We ate, and I was insisting in paying but she didn't let me pay. She paid for my dinner. Haha.
After that day, I brought her home. I ghosted her the day after. I'm sorry to you. But, thank you for dinner. The food was amazing.

2024.05.28 13:32 ProxySeller Creating and setting your own 4G/5G mobile proxies

Creating and setting your own 4G/5G mobile proxies
To begin with, it's worth finding out what a mobile proxy is. It is a type of proxy that you get from the regular SIM card of a mobile operator, and the type of connection here can also be different - 3G/4G/5G. Just like regular server proxies, mobile proxies act as an intermediary between the user and the endpoint of the connection, and the feature is that you use the network of the mobile operator and the SIM card itself to connect. And the key difference from server proxies here is that you get not static proxies, but a separate pool of rotating IP addresses. Mobile IP proxies are designed in such a way that IP addresses from mobile providers will be in continuous rotation, therefore, IP addresses will be constantly changed to new ones, which opens up unique opportunities if such proxies are used correctly.
Now, with this information in hand, we can deal with more detailed questions, specifically what is a mobile proxy farm and how to create your own mobile proxy.

Why should you create your own mobile proxy?

Creating your own mobile proxy can be a valuable venture, particularly for those looking to resell IP addresses. These farms are often demanded by medium to large companies that require a significant number of IP addresses. Quite often medium or even large businesses consider creating mobile 4G proxy farms in case they need a large number of IP addresses, as mobile proxy farms are not only cost-effective but also have a very high trust factor and are comparable only to residential proxies. While residential proxies are tied to traffic, mobile proxies have unlimited bandwidth, and this becomes a key factor in calculating costs. The rotation capabilities of a single mobile proxy allow for obtaining a thousand IP addresses per day without traffic limits, making them highly efficient in the market. The larger the business size, the more tangible the economic benefit of mobile proxies becomes for the company since the pay-per-traffic model of residential proxies will be less cost-effective for their high-volume IP address needs.
Therefore, 4G/5G proxy with rotation not only helps in the data collection process but also gives access to content that is geo-restricted and thus helps mask user activity. A own mobile proxy farm will be useful for such tasks:
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Mobile proxies, with their unlimited bandwidth and rotation capabilities, offer a cost-effective solution, especially for businesses with high-volume IP address needs.
  • Geo-Targeting: Mobile proxy farm gives you the ability to customize more precise display of ads based on specific countries and regions, according to the location of the key audience.
  • Product Data Scraping: Mobile proxies enable point-by-point collection of product information, such as availability and price in specific regions, aiding in market discovery and trend analysis.
  • Testing Applications: 4G/5G mobile proxies provide opportunities to test applications and websites in specific regions, ensuring functionality and performance.
  • Network Activity Management: Within a company, mobile proxies can monitor traffic among employees, enhancing security and increasing productivity.
So if you're considering building your own 4G mobile proxy farm, this is an issue that deserves your attention, because you get personalized access to an entire farm with impressive features and no traffic limits. Mobile proxies continue to grow daily, opening up many new opportunities in a wide variety of industries. And for business solutions, mobile proxies are an integral tool that enables a variety of strategies.

What do you need to create a mobile proxy?

In answering the question of how to create your own mobile proxy, we need to consider all the components and equipment that will be required for such a purpose. To create a 4G/LTE mobile proxy you will need:
  • SIM card: You need to choose the right operator, with the tariff plans you need.
  • Modem/smartphone: The SIM card requires an activation and connection device. Each SIM card requires one modem, but you can also use a regular smartphone with 5G capabilities as a modem, and this feature will also be available on our service soon.
  • Hub: You will also need a USB hub, ideally with 10 to 20 ports. You will need this connect hub to accommodate your modems with SIM cards.
  • PC/Server: Any personal computer is required but with a Linux operating system installed on it. A TV tuner is also a good cost-effective option. Usually, modern models are built on hardware that can support multiple modems. In terms of cost, they will also cost less than PCs or servers.
  • Mobile Proxy Control Panel: A special panel will also be required for modem management, which makes it easier to manage traffic and optimize the performance of proxy servers.

Mobile Proxy Control Panel Overview and Features

We have developed a convenient solution for managing your mobile proxy farm or individual modems, and this panel allows you to configure mobile proxies in the most detailed and convenient way due to its wide functionality and user-friendly interface.
We also offer several options for using your mobile panel. Namely:
  • If you have all the necessary equipment, we offer a monthly subscription.
  • If you do not have the equipment, we offer a pre-packaged set of equipment including delivery. But please note that the subscription is not included in this set and it must also be purchased separately.
To better understand how the mobile panel works and its key features, we suggest reviewing its complete structure to fully understand the functionality of the control panel.

2024.05.28 13:08 Skank_cunt_42 My Battle Nations questions

Greetings fellow Soldiers!
My name is George, and I’m an OG player who just recently found out about our upcoming revival and I am HYPED AF!!!!!
However, I do have some questions about the game and particularly The Patreon as I’m currently deciding on which tier I’d like to pick but I want some clarification to some questions I have before committing to a higher end tier.
While discussing some of these questions with my brother, he suggested I make this into a Reddit post as he thought a good majority of the community would have these questions or similar ones, so here I am doing so, asking publicly so hopefully all of us can learn the answers!
So without any further ado, let’s get the questions started.
Is the Patreon merch limited edition? - (AKA if future merchandise is released, will it be a carbon copy of the current Patreon merchandise or will these current Merchandise offerings be exclusive for Patreon donors only?)
Are The Patreon in-game profile pictures limited edition? - (Pretty similar question to the first one, just now asking if the Lieutenant, warlord, emperor, etc in-game profile pictures are unique and only for Patreon donors now or will it be available to be obtained by everyone later on?)
Are the in-game Patreon units (Diamond Tank for Emperor Tier and Baby Mammoth + Plasma Mammoth for Mammoth Tier) limited edition units? - (Can you tell I love Limited edition stuff yet LMAO? This is my last question regarding limited edition items but for this final one, I’m basically asking if these units will be something special and private only for pre-launch Patreon donors or will be available for everyone else later on?)
Are there any photos of the physical merchandise that can be shared yet?
What are the dimensions of The physical Mega Tank merchandise for Emperor tier?
Can Sergeant’s “Special in-game decor” tier reward be described at this moment in time?
If I donate for 4 months in a high tier for merchandise like Warlord and then after 4 months switch down to Corporal to maintain discord and beta access will I still get my Warlord perks and below merchandise?
If I donate to Mammoth tier and never donate again will I still receive all my benefits both physical and in-game?
What are the sizes for the shirt and hoodie?
What picture will be used for the mousepad?
Will Boss Strikes be coming back?
Will events be coming back?
Will limited time units like the legendary animals and limited time Adult animals be coming back? If so will they be one time events again like originally or available forever in the base game?
Will you be able to play the same account on PC and IOS/Andriod?
Is the merchandise deadline May 30th or June 30th? I’ve heard both.
What are the team’s plans to stay competitive and profitable long term to keep the game alive and growing?
And finally, just to clarify I do hope the answer to my first 3 questions are a resounding yes! One of my favorite things about Battle Nations back in the day was the truly limited legendary items/units you could get! The only thing I can think of that even slightly comes close to it today is Clash Royal’s limited edition monthly emotes but those are nothing compared to OG limited time event Battle Nation units!
For example, long ago one Christmas back in the OG days of the game there was a limited time event going on where if you upgraded an limited edition building all the way to level 20 (max for it) before Christmas, you got a special, one of a kind, amazing, regular raptor except for the awesome fact his noise was red (just like Rudolph!) I got it on the last day and it felt amazing! He was a prized possession of mine all the way till the servers went down, because besides my fellow OG brothers in arms who upgraded their building to max too in December, no one else could get him.
I think bringing back these limited edition gifts especially for The Patreon users donating now, before the game’s launch, who are helping them get their feet off the ground would be a wonderful gesture from The Developers to The Patreon donors!
Looking forward to seeing one of my favorite childhood games come back to life!! :D

2024.05.28 11:02 nova0175 Have all digital shooters just accepted that editing/post processing is an unavoidable part of their photography?

Let me preface this by saying I am by no means a professional photographer, but I do really enjoy making beautiful images, I'd like to build a portfolio and maybe one day print a photo book.
I recently got the Q2 and I was curious if people had any preferred JPEG settings. While I of course know the powevalue of editing DNGs raw, doing that for every photo would be seriously overkill for my use case- time-wise, and a waste of storage space.
I was so surprised that even within this community of Leica fans, everyone seemed to unanimously agree that the JPEGs aren't great and raw is the way to go, 100% of the time.
Is everyone seriously spending that added time/effort for every photo?
I come from the analog world, so I'm used to the concept of editing your photos at all being slightly "taboo". After all, film produces gorgeous colors and light.
Edit #1: a lot of people seem offended that I said this about editing film. This is just how I was taught, and I enjoyed my unedited film pictures. Also, if you simply google the topic, there are plenty of forums, articles, and YouTube videos that discuss exactly this - whether or not you should edit your film photography. It’s not something I made up!
What is it about Leica images that is so universally loved/coveted, if they require post-processing to even be seen?
Do Leicas then really only make sense for professionals, for whom editing raw is a given?
Edit #2: I feel like my question is being interpreted in the sense that I don’t understand why people would choose to edit RAW. I absolutely do, I get how much control and accuracy you get in this process and how it’s necessary to create iconic images. This was more a question about how ubiquitous it is — and I guess I’ve learned that within Leica users at least, it’s basically 100%.

2024.05.28 10:43 lava-_-slushy AITA for wanting to sue or name and shame another small business

I seriously need advice because I am getting frustrated to the point of becoming spitefull and name and shame this person... in March 2024 one of my clients who came for a piercing saw that I am actually a makeup artist (i am a young MUA that is still building my business portfolio and experience), she asked if I would be willing to do a collaboration with her as she's a photographer. I was excited and said yes thinking I would never actually hear from her.. she messaged me one day asking if I would be willing to do FREE make-up in exchange for some photos and I agreed (I'm still building my propper portfolio), she said there was 7 or 8 ladies and I said I can only afford to do about 3 maybe 4 (because you know, makeup is super expensive) and she agreed to 4 (only 3 showed up). I even traveled to the venue at my own expense which was 40km round trip from me. This took place in the end of March on a public holiday, I still have not gotten any of my photos that she promised, she also did not sign my contract (which she had in person at the venue and was sent to her via whatsapp). The photos of my work are already displayed on her photography website in her portfolio but every time I ask her if she could send me the link to download she said she did email me (didn't get anything, and I did check my spam), I asked again a week later, she said she'd whatsapp them to me... again nothing... and she does not message me back until i spam her with messages. what do I do, because I feel defeated and she just used me, usually I would let it go but she is messing with my small business!
(OH I almost forgot, she didn't even organize a space for me to set up, she had me set up and work on clients outside the studio barely under a tree, it gets hot here. So sanitary, right? Anyways the whole day basically cost my small business about R1300, more even because of public holiday/outside working hours fees, so $75 which is alot of money where I'm from)
(Edit: it's currently the 28th of May, the shoot was 29 march, she has not even blinked anything in my direction since 17th may)

2024.05.28 09:05 sansa53 Unveiling iOS 16.0: Release Date, Key Features, and Its Continued Relevance in 2024

Unveiling iOS 16.0: Release Date, Key Features, and Its Continued Relevance in 2024
https://preview.redd.it/xb5g7g1c943d1.jpg?width=1107&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68c0aee987c2aca6e46de943921af82245bb76ff
The iOS 16.0 announcement at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in 2022, hosted by Apple in Cupertino, California — caused considerable excitement. But that's unsurprising since every iPhone and iOS announcement often impresses the tech industry and invigorates Apple fans. Furthermore, every upgrade to Apple's flagship products presents a significant and tangible jump in innovation, security, and usability.
But it's 2024, and iOS 16.0 seems like old news. Consider that iOS 17 is already available, and the rumor mill is running wild about iOS 18. Should you even bother with iOS 16 at this stage or move on to the latest operating system (OS) that Apple recommends? It's sensible to upgrade to the newest OS to enjoy the security and additional features, but there are several good reasons to go with iOS 16. Here, we reveal why iOS 16 is still a worthy OS in 2024.

iOS 16.0 Features

The beauty of iOS 16.0 is that it comes with many compelling features. The Lock Screen, in particular, has received plenty of meaningful feature upgrades that help set it apart from previous iterations. This lets you set up several lock screens and switch seamlessly between them.
The Lock Screen also lets you customize your widgets, fonts, and photos for a completely personalized experience, so you feel like a co-creator and not simply going through the motions. And if you own an iPhone XS or later, your photos will appear in front of the time display thanks to a new effect. Beyond that, your notifications will appear below the Lock Screen in a count, list, or stacked format.
If you've become accustomed to using the Focus feature, you will be more than happy to use it in parallel with the Lock Screen of your choice. iOS 16.0 also boasts advanced mail and messaging features to help you keep track of all your conversations, edit messages 15 minutes after you send them, and cancel email delivery within 10 seconds.
As is the trend surrounding new security standards, Passkeys have become a key feature in iOS 16.0. It's integrated into the Safari browser and lets you sign in to your online accounts without requiring you to enter a password and username. The newly introduced Private Access Token helps to bolster security by identifying legitimate users and devices without requiring CAPTCHA entries.
And if you enjoy online shopping and cashless payments, Apple Pay and Wallet have become integral components. Provided merchants participate in the Apple Pay program, you can make safe and contactless payments with these vendors while keeping track of all your transactions in your Wallet.

When Did iOS 16 Come Out?

The official iOS 16.0 release date was on September 12, 2022. Apple released the newest version, iOS 16.7.7, on March 21, 2024.

Why Should You Use iOS 16 in 2024?

If you own an iPhone 8, you won't be able to update to iOS 17. But iOS 16 runs perfectly fine on this older device. If you own a slightly more recent model like an iPhone 11 or 12, it's not uncommon for performance to suffer when updating to the latest OS.
Another common issue is poor performance on devices with aging batteries, but iOS 16 often runs better and drains less battery. We recommend you replace an older battery to avoid damage to your device before the battery becomes inflated or bursts into flames.
If you're a business or power user, some of your favorite apps may not have full compatibility with iOS 17 yet. The last thing you want is to suffer stability issues when running an app during an important business meeting.
While Apple always tries to quash bugs with each update, it often introduces new ones that are equally annoying. If you're currently enjoying a relatively bug-free experience on iOS 16, there's little reason to update besides security considerations.

What is the Release Date of the iPhone 16?

Apple has not announced an official release date for the iPhone 16 series. But tech enthusiasts, influencers, and media outlets predict that the iPhone 16 will launch by fall 2024.
From what we know, these phones will feature a more performant A series chip, Wi-Fi 7, and the introduction of a new capture button. TVCMALL will be keeping a close eye on this highly anticipated release.

Elevate the iPhone 16 User Experience with A Brilliant Car Mount

Undoubtedly, the iPhone 16 will be one of the most powerful smartphones to hit the market soon. It will provide countless hours of entertainment, but it's also an indispensable productivity tool to help you THRIVE. So, you want to place your iPhone 16 front and center in your car's dash for the ultimate experience. TVCMALL offers a range of high quality iPhone 16 car mounts so you never miss a call or your favorite song.

As an avid hunter, I've frequently found myself in situations where precision and accuracy are of the utmost importance. That's why I decided to give the Axcel Landslyde Plus a try, and I'm glad I did. Its rapid adjustment knob and quick release mechanism allow me to adjust the yardage settings with ease, even when I'm in the field.
One of the standout features of this sight is the adjustable dead stop. It enables me to access my preferred yardage setting almost instantly, which is crucial during those heart-stopping moments when a shot presents itself. Additionally, the sight's adjustable pointers provide an extra layer of customization that allows me to fine-tune my aim to suit my preferences.
However, I did encounter a slight issue with the sight's adjustability. While the first, second, and third axis adjustments are easy to access, they don't always provide the smoothest experience. This can be a minor inconvenience, but it doesn't detract from the overall effectiveness of the sight.
Another aspect of this sight that I truly appreciate is its compatibility with various bows. The Picatinny in-line sight mount allows me to securely attach the sight to different bow models, making it a versatile choice for hunters with a variety of equipment preferences.
In conclusion, the Axcel Landslyde Plus is a reliable and efficient sight that has greatly enhanced my hunting capabilities. While it may have a few minor drawbacks, its overall performance more than makes up for it.

2024.05.28 06:17 SL7F just lost 10 years of friendship over some sb coins

10 years down the drain over 350m coins, isn't that just lovely? honestly i aint even mad, im happy that it only cost 10 years and some worthless in-game coins, if he hadn't done that it could've been a lot more years and something much worth much more than SB coins. so here is what happened, he kept taking money from me (bz or ah) but he always said he would return it eventually (he never did), so as a joke, i took his juju to do some trevor quests rq then returned it back, and then "as a joke" he coop kicked me saying "its ok im just gonna invite you back again", that wasnt the case, there was a 2 day cooldown on inviting me, nothing to worry about, then i remembered i had bought 3(or 4 idk) autopet rules, so i told him he has to pay them back and he said no, lovely, so he tried to coopsalvage my stuff but got the message This profile cannot be salvaged anymore! Sorry! aaaand there goes the entire account, and the crazy part is that first he blamed it on our other friend that was with us when that happened, then he started blaming the game. now untill this point i still thought it was all ok and it was probably just a bug, nope, less than 1 hour later he magically gets ratted, and for some reasons the "ratters" thought "lets just take 100m and leave him the other 200m nw" a few minutes earlier when our other friend told me that he got "ratted" he sent me a photo of the minion setup that had been taken by the ratters, but guess what? they were in his fucking skycrypt backpacks. so yup, there goes my profile and 2 childhood friendships over some sb coins, how's your day been? (no this is not a shitpost) Edit: forgot to mention this all happened like 12 hours ago, so IF somehow they didn't actually do this on purpose and rather they are actually still my friends, that means there is still about 19 hours left to coopsalvage the profile, so if anyone knows how the coopsalvage bug can be fixed, tell me

2024.05.28 04:11 Bidadidi Lightweight Windows laptop for writing and casual photo editing? Budget $1000-2500AUD

My ol' laptop died on me recently. I was gutted. Looking for a replacement.
Quite flexible with the budget, but no more than $2500 and ideally $1000-1500 AUD at most - Australia
Much prefer new, but reluctantly open to refurbs.
  1. A good keyboard with num-pad.
  2. Decent size touchpad.
  3. Relatively lightweight and reliable build quality for travel.
  4. HDMI port.
  1. Performance.
  2. Touch screen.
  3. Screen size of roughly 440mm 17" (200mm 8" x 380mm 15") would be ideal, but open to any medium-large sizes.
  4. Good screen for watching/streaming movies, long sessions of writing, and image editing.
  5. Good battery life.
Mostly multiple, multiple tabs of heavy Chrome/Firefox web-apps.
Also Illustrator, Photoshop, and occasional casual video editing.
My most recent laptop was a Dell G7 7790. Features-wise it's still perfect aside from the size and weight. If it was lighter and thinner, the only other thing I would add to it is a touch screen.
I originally got it for gaming, but that's no longer a priority with this new laptop. It would be great if I could run Valorant or CS at the lowest settings with high FPS, but I realise even that might be too ambitious for my budget and other specifications.
In terms of those other specs, please let me know if what I'm looking for isn't possible with my budget and how much I should be looking to spend instead.

26L to 30L pack comparison (and one 36-ish)
WARNING: Long post with lots of links to picture albums.
I can't help myself. I wish I could. I have problems. Thanks for putting up with me.
Following up on my 40L-45L comparison, then my 35L-45L comparison, and my 6L-9L sling adventures, I now have my 26L-30L backpack comparisons!
Part of the reason my sizing keeps going down is I'm getting better (IMHO) at minimizing and packing (thanks to experience, gear, and the ManyBaggers & onebag communities). In this pack, I've got a 3 (could easily be 5) day work trip packed:
My methodology:
  • Use pouches to simplify moving stuff between so many bags.
  • Spending as little time as possible packing each bag.
  • Not optimizing each pack - follow a basic pattern.
  • Prefer quick access to iPad, headphones, pillow, eye mask, and a few other things when getting on the plane. I want to get my stuff out and put the bag in the overhead bin very quickly.
    • In an ideal world, I would have a quick-grab bag inside my bag with all my plane needs. I used my Tom Bihn Side Hustle in some of my later tests, where I felt confident it could fit and be accessible - both removing it when boarding and reloading it quickly when deplaning.
My caveats:
  • I'm opinionated. I try to share my opinions but there are times my opinion(s) show through. If you disagree I look forward to your reviews and I will always have an open mind!
  • I'm not comprehensive (though the length of this post might make you think otherwise). I jotted down notes as I went. I encourage you to check out Packhacker, One Bag Travels and other reviewers for very comprehensive reviews. I focus on how bags pack, not all the material, hardware, etc.
  • There's a lot here. And I wrote this over many days. So there might be disjointed thoughts and lack of continuity.
Feel free to ask me questions in the comments.

Mystery Ranch Mission Rover 30 - https://imgur.com/a/4OoMoyM

I've gone through the Mission Rover in my other comparisons and it never struck a chord with me. While I actually appreciate the suitcase-style packing, the tech area doesn't work for me. But I like the material and the look in general.
Pros:
  • Comfortable carry. I thought it would feel too big, but it was actually quite good.
  • Appreciate the load lifters.
  • I like the ease of removing the straps and detaching the load lifters.
  • Nice big main compartment
  • Decent secondary compartment/organization
Cons:
  • No tablet area. I had to stack in front of my laptop, which limited how easily it could be accessed.
  • Related, the device/admin area is very small. It's a weird shape in a weird location. However, my niece has the Mission Rover 45 and loves the placement for the device since she uses it as onebag everywhere. So, to each their own.
  • No water bottle pocket
  • No quick access for anything
  • Nowhere for headphones to naturally fit. I used the bottom of the tech panel but they aren't safe in there.
  • No hip belt, even as an option.

Bellroy Venture Ready Pack 26L - https://imgur.com/a/pMVSR5x

https://preview.redd.it/guikysdgm23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=054e5a0a5245b89f08249a10a7b27228038cb42b
This is the first Bellroy backpack I've tested out. My daughter actually chose this bag from online pictures. By the time the Bellroy arrived, she had already started using the Fjallraven Raven 28 and the Raven just worked better for her (more compartments and separation of stuff). I'm returning the Bellroy but thought I'd put it through the paces as well.
Pros:
  • Surprised how much actually fit. Didn't seem that big. A lot of wide open space.
  • Front admin (brain) was impressively big. One of the only bags where I was happy with the quick access for the plane.
  • Side pocket is spacious - I was able to fit my charging kit (Aer Split Kit) after the backpack was packed out.
  • Excellent padding and surprisingly comfortable carry.
Cons:
  • No separate access to laptop or device area. Once it's packed, you're not getting these out.
  • Packing it up was difficult.
  • Had to start closing the zipper to be able to load it up.
  • No room for headphones & water bottle (bottle pocket is too small and unusable when packed out)

Evergoods CTB26 - https://imgur.com/a/UUG9UTj

https://preview.redd.it/m3t00zvhm23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=194624f4f922f59dc7726936780d1310bba982c8
I know the CTB26 gets a lot of respect, and it's well deserved. I used this as my EDC for a while, only to be replaced by the ULA Ultra Dragonfly (30). I think it'll make a comeback, though. I do appreciate the ease of top-access and the compartments. What I'm realizing is I like compartments with volume without forced organization (e.g. Aer).
Tip: Make sure you use all the compartments on the front panel. There's a lot of volume in there that goes to waste.
Pros:
  • So much quick access. Love the yoke, dump, and slash pockets!
  • I was able to get everything in without using the yoke pocket. I did this intentionally as I don't want to dig through several pockets when getting on a plane.
  • Comfortable enough - definitely feel the weight, but it mostly handles the weight well.
  • Definitely handled the whole packout better than the Bellroy 26L.
Cons:
  • No load lifters or hip belt. Take-it or leave-it comfort. No dialing it in very much. I think the CPL28 is more comfortable, personally.
  • Quite difficult to get everything in and zipped up. Since i have the X-Pac (Phoenix) edition, there's no stretch or forgiveness. I wish I had the nylon version to compare it against.
  • With the main compartment and front pockets packed out, closing the laptop compartment was pretty challenging - the zipper was definitely stressed. You can see the zipper looks pretty tight.

Evergoods CPL28 - https://imgur.com/a/GZEsjbA

https://preview.redd.it/dw6qosl2np2d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe08782b3f5daec0b23f740d104dea15bbc82e53
On a recent trip, I was debating between the CPL28 and the CTB35. I chose the CTB35 but had to pack a daypack as well. The CPL28 actually would've handled the trip perfectly, but I appreciated the hip belt of the CTB35. Considering how much time I have to spend standing carrying the backpack (especially in ATL TSA lines - whatta mess even with TSA Pre-Check and Clear Plus), I don't regret prioritizing the hip belt. But the CPL28 would've otherwise been preferable. I actually preferred the back-feel of the CPL28 over the CTB35. Maybe because it's longer and doesn't feel like it's protruding out as much.
Pros:
  • Amazing capacity - I think the length (height?) vs the CTB26 just creates so much usable space. That space is usable both in the main compartment and on the front panel. See my repack with the Side Hustle and water bottle inside.
  • Even with the bag packed out, the laptop compartment zipper felt good and secure.
  • Is "it just works" a pro?
Cons:
  • The same con that always exists with the entire CPL series: No. Water. Bottle. Pockets. This seems like such an easy fix Evergoods!
  • Not enough quick access that holds much. The yoke is OK and the slash pocket doesn't hold much with the front panel loaded up the way I have it.
  • No hip belts even as an option. Considering how much you can fit in there, I feel like they should be an option for travel.

ULA Ultra Dragonfly (30L) - https://imgur.com/a/DEQHUuO

https://preview.redd.it/n1dsi2frpp2d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b45adcb30f1fe307be4ffe63d3205cfb6f4b02fb
I have been using the Dragonfly as my EDC for several weeks now. I threw it into this ring even though the rated capacity for the main compartment is only about 22L because it's always felt more spacious, which was validated by OneBagTravels capacity test (thanks for the pointer u/fl03xx).
Pros:
  • Punches way above its weight - for the lowest rated capacity bag here, you wouldn't know it.
  • Still had room left in the front mesh and a side pockets.
  • The main compartment is somewhat easy to load. Very easy to tell exactly how much vertical space you have. The sides stay up very nicely.
  • Given its size, I could probably put this under the seat, too.
  • Very strong (ultra) fabric. The fabric and zippers pulled everything closed.
  • So comfortable, even with weight. I have the hip belts and they don't help a lot, but they do their job.
  • The lightest bag here, and I could definitely feel the difference.
Cons:
  • No dedicated tech area, only laptop sleeve on the back. Minimal padding and a very small false bottom (not even sure it's really a false bottom). Nowhere for tablet.
  • When the pack is fully packed out, the laptop compartment gets ridiculously tight. In one of the pictures I am trying to pull out the laptop and it's just lifting up the bag.
  • Nowhere for quick access for flight tech (tablet, headphones).
  • While I appreciate the bag standing on its own, it lean to the side and didn't feel stable.
  • I don't like how ugly and lumpy the front mesh pocket area gets with anything in there.
  • Could be me, but the little plastic hinge to put the hip belt on & off is a PITA compared to the rest of the bags' gatekeeper setup.
  • With a very large (33oz) water bottle, it starts to take main compartment space. Maybe if I had something solid and the main compartment packed solid it would only stretch outwards, not sure.

Thule Aion 28 - https://imgur.com/a/jFT3N0N

To me, this was a random pickup at REI. I was wondering if my daughter would like it over the Bellroy or Fjallraven. It'll probably go back. I don't dislike it but it won't displace my CPL28.
Side note: I might've liked it better in black, but their blue is not the blue I'd prefer.
Pros:
  • The zippers are actually really awesome. Probably the best I have seen, period. They are smooth, they don't get stuck, they just glide along. And even when I think I must've overpacked, the zipper eat it all up compressing whatever must be compressed.
  • I was able to fit everything in without expansion. I wouldn't say it was great, but it all fit. The expansion is a good option to have, but I wasn't comparing it with expansion. That, to me, defeats the purpose. If I need the expansion it should be on the way back for what was acquired along the way.
  • Lots of padding, everywhere. I think your stuff will be decently protected.
  • The main compartment is very deep. I treated it as a top loader (didn't open the TPU divider from the tech area) and was able to stuff things down effectively (see pictures).
Cons:
  • There's so much padding everywhere. I'm sure (hope) they measured volume with all the padding, but it feels like it's eating volume.
  • The tech compartment and the main compartment steal volume from each other. The TPU(?) divider lets shapes poke through to the other side.
  • The secondary (brain) compartment is fairly big but not big enough for an iPad Pro 11" and headphones.

Patagonia Black Hole MLC Mini - https://imgur.com/a/hOZawlG

https://preview.redd.it/rz1o260ab23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f91e346acf2ccab0b9cbecce4cc14753a860bdc
For some reason, I've had an aversion to Patagonia bags. I don't know why. Maybe it's the giant branding. Maybe it's the mass-market appeal. Maybe I'm a brand snob. But I saw this in the store and decided to give it a try. I don't regret it. I'm still debating whether I keep it or not. It is a very good bag at this price and size. However, it's not the best at either - it's a good balance.
Pros:
  • The main compartment really is just a wide open tub. One thing I like is that the side walls stay up so you get a good idea of how much space you have left.
  • I like the width of the main compartment. Fit the Thule Medium Compression cube in width-wise creating more room at the top of the bag for other long items.
  • The front panel has a lot some good volume. It's not quick grab, but don't forget to use it.
  • Comes with a good built-in hip belt (that doubles as a shoulder strap; I didn't try it as a duffle). The hip belt helped move some weight away from my shoulders.
  • The tech compartment (in the back clamshell) works well. The main compartment and tech compartments do steal space from each other, but the bag does help you with compression.
Cons:
  • While there is a top pocket, it's pretty small. Nowhere to really put quick grab items.
  • I had to get it pretty low on my back in order to engage the hip belts. Maybe I've been wearing Evergoods and ULA for too long, but I'm not used to wearing a bag so low.
  • Straps aren't that padded or comfortable. Again, look at what I'm comparing to (Tom Bihn, Dragonfly, Evergoods).
  • I don't understand the point of the mesh divider between the front panel and the main compartment. Putting it away eats space at the bottom of the bag. Keeping it in place just adds more zippers you have to deal with to get to your stuff. If the mesh provided compression, maybe it would make sense, but as it stands it's useless.

Tom Bihn Synik 30 -

https://preview.redd.it/jj7mm3aib23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5adb83c48a5b2d3fc5dacf8cbc544f5ef74ff52a
I just got the Tom Bihn and the Dragonfly 36 as I was finishing up all the other photos. So very little experience with either and they're both brand new to me.
Tip: Pack the bottom compartment first. While it doesn't share a lot of volume with the interior, things in the interior pocket will overlap.
Pros:
  • I think it's the TARDIS of backpacks. I could keep putting stuff in the front pockets and there'd still be more room. Especially that bottom pocket. I didn't realize how much had been shoved in there till I was emptying it out!
  • Very comfortable even without the waist strap or hip belt. Both helped move some weight away from the shoulders.
  • The various pockets and compartments are a pro and a con. But if you can use them, it's a big pro.
  • The dual access to the laptop initially seemed kinda dumb to me. However, even in just my test packing, I find myself using the dual access more often than I thought I would.
  • The laptop compartment volume isn't eaten away by a bunch of extra padding. If you don't have a laptop with you, you don't really lose any space.
  • Compresses (just push it down) really nicely. Can be used as an EDC at destination without it looking like you're carrying around a beast of a bag.
Cons:
  • Geezus Tom Bihn, why all the zippers and all the jangle?! The first thing I have to do with every Tom Bihn bag is add some zipper silencing. This bag has so many damn zippers, it's going to take a while!
  • My Thule packing cube wasn't great for the Synik. I got the Peak Design cube about the same time and moved everything to the Peak Design (just pick up the stack and move it in, no refold or restack) which fit much better.
  • The various pockets and compartments are a pro and a con. If you have large pouches and cubes, you're gonna have a hard time outside of the main compartment and maybe the bottom compartment.
  • Only one handle (on top). At this point, I guess I'm used to side handles on bags this size. But this is not meant to be carried duffle-style at all (even the luggage passthrough is for vertical orientation).

ULA Dragonfly (36L) - https://imgur.com/a/PdGtPSh

https://preview.redd.it/npo2njjkb23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6eb2d79715e638340dc08d237689323f7b9af2a
I received this bag after doing all my packs but had not emptied my cube yet. I was so excited to give this one a try! I love my Dragonfly 30 but it really couldn't handle my trips. I only included it here because the main body is **rated** at 26L.
Pros:
  • Plenty of leftover space.
  • It's basically a large bucket.
  • I just love the big stretch pockets. Even more space on this bigger bag!
Cons (basically all the cons of the 30 apply here too):
  • Laptop is not protected enough. It's the same as on the Dragonfly 30, but for some reason I notice it more on the 36.
  • A bit too narrow of a body for this much capacity.
  • Because of the way the panel opens, and the additional capacity, I feel like loading this all the way up requires more finessing of the material at the top of the opening.
  • Had a harder time standing up, for some reason.

Fjallraven Raven 28 - https://imgur.com/a/Ri6opCy

https://preview.redd.it/bzh03oqlb23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a92b1e93a22992b2e67a24e01a54cd6baec4c142
Kinda a rando bag throw in here. My daughter (followed by my son) wanted this bag for school. My daughter likes it because it has many many compartments and areas to put things, which is not how I pack (even for my EDC). But, since I just got the bag and it's in the volume range, I included it.
Pros:
  • Not a long bag. If you have a shorter torso, this will fit you great.
  • Even though it's sticking out far, it doesn't sag like you see most bookbags sagging.
  • You can designate a whole compartment for quick grab (flight) items if you want. However, the compartments are of different sizes so you have to plan and pack appropriately.
Cons:
  • Because it's not long, it sticks out quite a ways from your back. Be sure to pack heavier things closer to you otherwise it's really pulling you down. And it's a hazard if you're swinging your body around.
  • The water bottle pockets have no volume of their own and they are fabric not any kind of stretchy material. With the bag fully packed out, I couldn't get any movement of those side pockets to get a water bottle in.
  • Doesn't fully open (clamshell or panel). This is a con for me based on personal preference. That said, my daughter likes it because she really only wants top access. YMMV.

Random bonus: Cotopaxi (Unknown model - Salesforce TrailheaDX swag - Maybe Nazca 24L Travel Pack (also here)?) - https://imgur.com/a/VhbpcqC

https://preview.redd.it/wm826n9pb23d1.jpg?width=768&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=158de52a7707b6591e3fa7029a7dc9cd81987671
I started getting rid of my swag bags last year before realizing some were actually quite nice bags. I had hung on to this one for some reason. I looked at the cotopaxi site but I can't find a bag like this (they don't have an archives site I could find). I happened to find some eBay listings Giving for Good (linked above) that pointed me to the model name.
Pros:
  • I was very surprised by how much fit in here. I hadn't really ever used this bag (free logo'd swag just sits around for me, I don't do advertising).
  • The two big compartments remind me of Pakt, Mystery Ranch Mission Rover 45, or Tortuga bags (which is a compliment). Good amount of depth/volume on each side.
  • Feels OK on the back. Mediocre padding, but I think that's typical for Cotopaxi (from reading/watching others' reviews - I don't have any other Cotopaxi bags).
Cons:
  • Because it's a complete suitcase-style bag inside, there's nowhere for quick grab (iPad Pro, headphones, etc.). Even if I tried with the Side Hustle, I would have nowhere to quick grab it from.
  • The laptop (or whatever you put in the main compartment if you don't have a laptop) gives the bag all its structure. No framesheet.
  • Speaking of the laptop, with the main compartments packed out, the laptop compartment was really tight.
  • No hip belts, not even as an option. I realize you shouldn't need it at this size, but many others in this post do have waist/hip belts as an option.
