One downside is that the rapid adjust knob might need a small improvement for smoother operation, as its action sometimes feels a bit stiff. Now, before yall gonna call me a shill and bot and spam 69420 downvotes, I've been here since January 2021, I'm still holding my GME position (can send proof to mods, proof or ban), I've increased my position over the years continiously, from fraction of a share into X, then XX and now XXX. It's basically the biggest position in my portfolio.
My current concerns & questions:
  1. Is DRS really the way to go? DFV didn't DRS his shares, never mentioned this in any tweet or during the stream. He clearly knows about it, but remains on E-Trade.
  2. RC seems to counter our efforts to lock the float? We already hit the plateau on DRS count, now the float increased twice. Our goal was to lock the float in 1-2 years from the past calculations and expectations. That already seems off the books now (pun intended).
  3. There was no mention of DRS count on the 8K Q1 report, they should have this number by now, any reason to this?
  4. Is DFV lending his shares? Pay attention to his YOLO updates, after a week his cash position increased by 133k USD. So he either deposited 133k (seems odd???), or he lends the shares and gets paid for that.
  5. Will RC stop any rapid price increase with ATM? He hasn't done it for 3 years since 2021 until now, and price has ran up many times! Now it's twice and right into DFV position. It's really just an idea for later as from my own personal experience it can be pretty frustrating searching around numerous posts for different but related formulas on exploding dice, with no one central reference.

Fun SWADE math that I've broken down myself

Less common math stuff
Just defining some things that may or may not look familiar to everyone. (Especially b/c I'm a programmer, not a mathematician, so I may be using different symbols)
Probability of beating target t with a single die of size n
Let's talk about how to calculate the odds of success for a single exploding die.
Variables:
First, the odds of success without exploding dice. On a d4, that would be 100% for 1, 75% for 2, 50% for 3, 25% for 4. We can think of the odds of success here as how many results are less than the target number. This can be represented as 1 - ((t-1) / n). Let's break this down.
Now let's factor in the exploding die. The chance of a die exploding is 1/n per roll, since exactly one result on the roll will explode.
Assuming a d4 is being rolled against target number 6, we know that we need to roll a 4 and then a 2.
How can we do this generically? Well, let's think of it like this: we need to multiple the odds of the final roll by 1/n (odds of explosion) a number of times equal to the number of explosions needed to reach t. With a d4 and t=9, for instance, we need to explode twice. So we would multiply the final roll's odds by the odds of explosion twice. If you haven't realized, that is just using an exponent.
So we're looking at ((1/n) ^ x) * (1 - ((y-1) / n)) where x is the number of explosions and y is the target number for the final roll. (Not to be confused with t which is the overall target) But how do we define x and y in terms of our original variables?
The number of explosions needed is just how many instances of n can be subtracted from t. You may have noticed that means we can divide to get this number. Ex: 9/4 would give 2.25, indicating we need 2 explosions. We can ignore the decimal, the remainder only matters for the final target number. So we will "floor" the result. (round down)
Now, how do we get the target number of the final roll? Well, we can calculate the remainder after division with modulo: y = t%n... Not quite. See, using d4 as an example, modulo will give us a value between 0 and 3, indicating the remainder. But we ideally would like a value between 1 and 4 indicating the final target number. We can correct this by subtracting 1 from t initially, then adding 1 to the modulo result. For most numbers this will be the same as just doing the modulo but it will correct 0s to become n (4 in our example) so long as we aren't attempting a target number that is 0 or negative. (8 becomes 7, modulo to 3, add back to 4... normally 8%4 would just be 0) So our final result to get y is:
When we put it all together, we get this: ((1/n) ^ (floor(t / n))) * (1 - (( (((t-1) % n) + 1) - 1) / n)).... Almost. If you start using this, you'll notice a glitch we've created here. Namely, when we hit the multiples of n. Let's look at d4 again. When we try target number 4, the result will be way off from .25. That is because we don't actually need an explosion yet until we reach 5, but our x calculation earlier would suggest we need 1 explosion at this point and would thus be multiplying .25 for a single explosion by .25 as the final target number. The correction is simple, just subtract 1 from t when determining how many explosions are needed so that it doesn't go up until we are 1 above a multiple of n.
Example: n=4 (d4), t=6
Example: n=6 (d6), t=18

Variables:
To determine the odds of success, it is actually easier to determine the odds that none of the dice will succeed and subtract that from 100%. This is because in order to combine those odds together (odds of not succeeding for each die) we can just multiply them together. Let's assume that P(n) represents that entire formula we did earlier for probability of a single die so that we don't have to keep re-writing it, where we will replace n with one of the more specific na, nb, ... values.
Example: t=10, na=4 (d4), nb=6 (d6, wild die)

Things I'm still working on learning/explaining

Probability of beating target t with multiple dice of sizes na, nb, ... added together (damage dice)
I haven't figured this one out yet. I am bad at math. I will update this when I do. It is complicated to me because the curves aren't really linear when combining dice. (see the d12 vs 2d6 debates) I have simulated it and know for instance that d4+d6 vs 10 comes out to something near 26% just when running tens of thousands of rolls. But I can't figure out a formula behind that. I need to emphasize that I am terrible at math.
Average of an exploding die roll
This is weird, right? Because exploding dice can generate infinite results. But you can still get a simple mathematical average because the odds of getting larger results still trends down towards 0%, even if it never reaches 0%. I am not well-versed enough in this to do a full explanation, but for the curious the result is this:

(They use different variables than I do so that could be confusing if you read this post right after reading the stuff above) There is also a small bit of calculus (I see a dy/dx notation in there) which I was once good at, but have not used in so many years that I remember little else other than the notation.

I went on the internet to find out about the CLAT exam and what happened in 2018. I looked up documents about it and after a lot of web surfing. I found the list of 4801 candidates with their revised scores. Coincidentally and thankfully, there was a formula indirectly attached to it. Here's the formula:
The formula takes account of concepts like accuracy but I have simplified it to the basic terms [CHECK SOURCE]
There is a similar formula used for revised no. of incorrect answers, you can calculate it by yourself. But the thing is I put these values in the formula: Correct answers: 130 Incorrect answers: 10 Time loss: 900 secs (15 mins) The revised no of questions correct after applying the formula comes out to be 131.17 You can also lookup data of CLAT students from the source on how much some candidates gained after losing 'x' about of time.
IDK what to make out of it.
PS: NTA has never mentioned that they have used the exact formula from the CLAT exam, so it could be true that this formula is just wrong. Also, I would suggest you go by yourself and check if I made any flaws.

The 3Blue1Brown video series on ChatGPT is likely simplified but there's enough detail that you could actually go ahead and implement it.
Matrix multiplication is 2 for-loops over 2d arrays of floats. Backpropagation, you need to calculate partial derivatives with respect to each model parameter (by hand) and then apply Newton-Raphson or some other regression. Not easy but maybe 500 lines of code. Softmax is a line or two. Connecting all the pieces is also maybe 100 lines of code.
The design behind ChatGPT is complex and a work of genius. I'm not poo-pooing it. I'm just saying that the code for the model itself, you could botch together in under 1000 lines of C++ code with just the standard library (without hardware optimisations).
Are there any pedagogical implementations publicly out on the web which match the design in this video series where I could browse the source code?

However, those calculations often neglect the amount of Union XP you get on a daily routine. (that being 2000 XP from dailies, and 1800 XP from Waveplate regeneration).
For a very much simplified text example, we will look at a time frame of 30 Days, and imagine we have 40 Crystal Solvents. Per day, we get 2000 XP from dailies and 4x Rewards and 2000 XP* through natural Waveplates, but also 1x Reward and 500 XP per Crystal Solvent used. We are also SOL3 Phase 4 and 20.000 XP away from reaching SOL3 Phase 5.
*(The exact XP per 60 waveplates is 450 XP, so 1800 XP a day, but we will use 500 XP here for simplifications)
When not using Crystal Solvents, we get 20x Phase 4 rewards in the first 5 days, and then level up to Phase 5. For the other 25 days, we get 100x Phase 5 rewards, as well as 40x more Phase 5 rewards with Crystal Solvents.
So in total, we get 20x Phase 4 rewards, and 140x Phase 5 rewards.
When using Crystal Solvents, we first get our 4000 daily XP and then get 32x Phase 4 rewards and 8x Phase 5 rewards directly with Crystal Solvents (since we already level up after using 32 Crystal Solvents). For the rest of the 30 days, we then get 120x Phase 5 rewards with natural waveplates.
So in total, we get 32x Phase 4 rewards, and 128x Phase 5 rewards.
Saving Crystal Solvents is therefore definitly a more optimal method for getting resources.
To visualize this with proper numbers, here would be a graph comparing the "fast" [f(x)] method (using Crystal Solvents) in red, to the "slow" [s(x)] method (not using Crystal Solvents) in blue, in which the Y-Axis tells us how many "worse Phase" Rewards we would get before ascending in World Phase (Meaning Worse Rewards), and the X-Axis depending on how much XP is left until you reach said World Phase. the variable n represents how many Crystal Solvents you use in the "fast" method.

Hello all! In mid-2022 I started having issues with what I'm assuming is my gallbladder. I was having incredibly pale and mind you VERY loose bowel movements, stabbing pain in my URQ, vomiting, and crazy bloat/gas. The pain would have me in the fetal position in bed for days, sometimes weeks. I was finally able to have a HIDA scan done but from what they told me, might I say lack of what they told me, everything is fine. It was like one random day, the pain just stopped and I was fine. Worst 3 months of my life.
Fast forward to now, I'm waking up every morning these past 3 days with intense nausea and waves of pain in my upper stomach starting from the URQ moving very quickly to the other side, like it slowly starts like a cramp, peaks and then tapers off. It started after I had my favorite Mexican meal that was definitely very fatty. I've been having lots of acid reflux issues for the past 3+ months.
These are my results from my HIDA scan in July 2022.
No one called to go over anything and so I don't even know if they saw anything maybe just very minor. I'm now experiencing loose stool, bloat and I'm very gassy. I will be going to the hospital today.

2024.06.08 07:47 ballade4 AoT Reddit, I am finally here with my own theories (rejoice!). The nature of titans and the underlying mechanics of the AoT universe have yet to be even partially revealed.

Guys, it was hard, very hard. BUT I did manage to successfully stay off of these subreddits until I was able to finish the show. I did learn very early on (from a "greatest of all time" mobile news story that was not careful to disclose SPOILERS) that Eren was somehow going to become the Big Bad in the end, and honestly that actually made the show even more compelling (but...HOW?!).
But now I am done, not single, but am ready to mingle. I do definitely have a lot of thoughts, but not a lot of time right now. So figure I'll just do a meandering anvd hopefully not too ruambling drop of my highlights / perspective and watch what happens.
  1. There is absolutely somewhere between ZERO and NEGATIVE NINE-THOUSAND PERCENT chance that the show is truly over. I have read a lot of opinions from those of you who said this first, and agree with most of them. But one factoid that I have not specifically seen yet (sorry if I missed) is that Isayama is YOUNG. It is obvious in hindsight that he did not have all of the answers / a 0-100% plot for AoT on day 1 or even on year 10. He more than likely STILL does not know how this is really going to end. And that is OK, because he has more than half of his life and potentially another three-quarters of his professional life to figure it out, all while continuing to improve his skills and capacity.
  2. I love the KFT. LOVE IT! And it is quite possible that even Isayama wishes that he had thought of it. But I do agree that it won't happen, for the very simple reason that there is no way that he is going to let someone else finish his story. KarlFritzTheory, y'all are amazing and please keep it up, I am creeping both your sub and your Discord in hopes that more is cooking. And I do hope that you will receive some acknowledgement or nod from Isayama (if not already communicated). But you are not going to be finishing this man's story. And that is also OK.
  3. Being able to successfully avoid spoilers / discussions did allow me to develop and hone quite a few of my own theories (mostly between me and my cat, who is a Levi Ackerman fanboy furrr suuure). Probably the most outlandish of these related to the source of the titans - I figured out pretty quickly that they were people, but was waiting for a reveal along the lines of brandonsanderson 's writing, where there is always another secret hidden in plain sight amidst the mundane mechanics of the world. It was definitely somewhat jarring + a bit of a letdown to learn that Paradis was actually a prison containing just a tiny fraction of humanity, but I quickly came around ( +realized where Isayama was getting ready to go all the way thru most of the last season) with the next reveal that the Warriors + a big chunk of the rest of humanity were also Eldians. However, one thing that has stuck from my cat convos that I would like to share today and will continue to touch on in the below - guys do we really know ANYTHING about this world? It is so easy to think that we already have all of the answers (just look at any scientist or priest), BUT DO WE REALLY?!! My "evidence" in support as follows:
    • Thus far, although it has been stretched in quite a few ways, we have really only seen ONE supernatural entity (Mr. Caterpillar!) in what is clearly a very supernatural world. But wait...the Founding Titan - titan in SINGULAR, yes I get that her daughters absorbed her power, then were subsequently bred like pigs and ultimately consumed by their children once it was confirmed that this was the key to be able to transform at will & retain sentience. But WAIT, titan in SINGULAR, daughterS in PLURAL. So what is NOT said but clearly implied is that consuming just PART of a Warrior can create a FULL shifter. Sorry - I guess I temporarily forgot Zeke's spinal fluid which does not leave its imbibers with sentience. OR. SO. WE. HAVE. BEEN. TOLD. By literally some of the most unreliable witnesses (witting and unwitting) that could possibly exist!
    • All of that brings me back to a very early theory that I had which still makes sense to me because it invokes Occam's Razor (the simplest explanation...) - I feel that it is extremely likely that we will learn at some point that there is absolutely ZERO difference between a "titan shifter" and a "pure titan" apart from the contents of their brains. We already saw how this prospectively works where the will of Karl Fritz essentially takes over the host of the Founding Titan (OR SO WE WERE TOLD - personally hope that this is where KarlFritzTheory will have a callback instead). And we have heard the characters state that the mind-meld has to do with royal blood, BUT DOES IT REALLY?! Zeke's royal blood - BUT DID IT REALLY DO ANYTHING?! And even if the royal blood was something that Isayama was leaning on as an uncomplicated and innately understandable vehicle by which to drive the plot, it would be absolute child's play to stage a reveal of an entirely different system that has been in play for this whole time.
    • My feel is that while the "upgrade" of a human to a titan certainly does require a catalyst (let's say to "call" Y'mir to the COORDINATE to do the sculpting), the will of said person does NOT get overridden with routine mindless cannibalism, but rather they (ALL of them) RETAIN their will and ARE IN FULL CONTROL. We have already seen many hints of this...***coughs in Abnormal***, and I strongly believe Ymir lied thru her teeth about being in a waking nightmare - like she literally celebrated when she woke up as a human again (b*tch you just ate somebody). So yes, unfortunately because it is quite shocking to think about, I expect that we will at some point find out that even the "full" titans are just everyday people who are very vigorously trying to make the best of a Very Bad Situation, albeit at a diminished capacity than the other "full" titans whose endowment came with either an extremely strong will (***coughs in Abnormal***) and/or the memories and instincts of the previous holder to "teach" them how to pull their consciousness back into the nape to reform their human body. Why are some of these folks roleplaying zombies from 28 days and others are happy to chill under a tree and stare at you? And did we not assume that we already knew enough about the world to not have to ask this question?
      • More specific meanderings on the above,: my very depressing extension of my original theory is that each human who is catalyzed by a COORDINATE is immediately whisked away to the Paths, where they spend a lifetime being brainwashed into soldiers. So pretty much Ymir makes nazis, then sends them back all swole and stuff. But wait, is it JUST her? Hells y'all, there may even be a whole KINGDOM / WORLD inside of the Paths by now, an entire society that actually performs the work to turn an "I am sentenced to death" human into a "GIMME DAT SPINAL FLUID NAO" killing machine. And following this theory to where the show left off, the supernatural steam energy which seemingly creates / fuels titans (remember, matter can be neither created nor destroyed) is something that flows directly from this Paths-world into each COORDINATE. So although we have been told that Y'mir has passed on along with the Power of the Titans....nah bois "she" just turned off the gas. Whether this was because Mikasa's decision freed herself of "her" own brainwashing or something else entirely that still links back to Mikasa and Eren...I imagine we will find out soon
  4. Can we talk about how one of nine "modern" titans is kind of a BIG deal (hello Armin!), but also that there were a MILLION just like him? One of the Nine was really one of the Million And One Plus Eight? Naw man. Would have been cool to catch up with these guys after they reverted back to humans with the rest. Except, they DIDNT?! Y'all. We have absolutely NO idea how this world really works.
    • This is another reason for why I believe that the world of the Paths is a more persistent and developed one than has yet to be revealed. And that fully-trained shifters are able to somehow navigate it should they successfully reform their bodies or whatever is required. Maybe it is as simple as "lesser-trained shifters such as the Warriors maintain their body thru the shift whereas Paths-trained shifters don't need the crutch or have forgotten how. Either way, the nape being a weak spot has been a universal mechanic that will probably be sustained / retained, maybe by revealing that the "steam energy" stuff that fuels all titans requires the presence of the parasite creature and ceases to flow if it is killed or damaged, and that it is this creature being present in the spinal cord that creates a COORDINATE.
  5. When I saw Sasha appear in the finale, I leapt out of my chair. EVERYONE IS ALIVE / BEING REVIVED FROM THE RUMBLING, CLEANUP PARTY IN THE WORLD! Then I got a bit sad, because that ending would have sucked + been the definitive end of everything... Then she faded away and I continued to stay sad. Except, faded away. Just like Y'mir. Except. Sasha. Never. Transformed. She had to have ostensibly come from the Paths. How did she get there? Where did she go? Why is she the only one besides Y'mir that physically manifested in a manner that was seen by multiple people? I will say it again, we have Absolutely No Idea how this world really works. And no, I do not believe at all that Sasha's appearance was symbolic; more likely that we will learn that, in this universe, the concept of death is...flexible (I mean we kind of already know that this is probably the case).
  6. On Eren...
    • Do I think that our boy is still alive? Honestly, I kind of hope that he isn't - there are plenty of excellent characters left over to carry on + new ones that will surely be introduced. More on this later.
    • Did he really kill 80% of humanity? I kinda doubt it, although he certainly did quite a bit of damage.
    • Was he at any point in time telling the cast and us the complete entire truth? Hells no. The scene with Armin where he "admits" that he is just a big ol' college hunk-level idiot with too much power was EXTREMELY jarring to me because at no point in the entire show did I get this impression. Eren was driven, calculated and passionate, and fell into pretty much every common trope for a leading protagonist. Eren was absolutely NOT stupid, and certainly learned from experience how to manipulate and influence others. I just rewatched that scene and could not help but laugh at the absurdity - too bad that we can't; tell if that is his poker face.
    • AND NOW, going back to the whole Fading Away bit from 4 - so are we really to believe that Sasha got to pop out and say hi, whereas Eren just wanted to nestle in dem Mikasa bitties / decided to wear feathers instead of his face? Nah man. Again, death is likely flexible; theoretically possible that Y'mir / Paths universe saved or transported everyone who was on brink of death although not sure if I will like the big-time softening of the story / stakes if this is the case. But there IS flexibility. Which has to mean that there is a flexibility mechanic that has only started to be revealed. And yep, we will inevitably see Eren's toothy grin again, and the reveal / redemption arc is going to have to be Absolutely Awesome to work. Feels like Isayama can pull it off tho, and anyways he has no choice since it's probably the only way that he's ever going to top Season 5 (you got this bro, no pressure!)
And now for my final series of points. Here, I will actually be very brief.
Yeah, so I am pretty sure that we will see literally everyone again. And I am here for it now, lets goooo!
Next, we could play a game of "name the red herrings" (certainly the happily after -> future Paradis, likely "pure titan" + the royal blood + time travel / future sight, possibly the entire Rumbling but hope not), but it has been a long week and I am tired. Hope someone out there enjoys this.

WARNING: spoilers and math ahead.
I got curious Knox's Rt. Basically, how fast does it spread, and how does it compare to other superspreaders? Then reading through The Knox Event In Real Time, I noticed several exact dates called out:
July 27, 1347 EDT: Billions are dead from the Knox Infection across the globe. July 28, 1200 EDT: Almost everyone falls to the Knox Infection. Only small groups of immune survivors remain.
1347 EDT is a suspiciously specific time (down to the minute), and "almost everyone falls" is a good substitute for the world population in 1993. So I did some fiddling around, and reverse-engineered the exponential growth.
I figured out the world population TIS used was a simple average of the United Nations and US Census Bureau's official 1993 count: 5,528,197,658. "Billions" means exactly 2 billion. The question to answer, then, is how fast does Knox multiple to go from 2B to 5.5B in 22 hours (0.926 days)?
2,000,000,000 * x ^ 0.926 = 5,528,200,000
( 5.5 / 2.0 ) ^ ( 1 / 0.926 ) = 2.999
That’s a rounding error away from tripling every day, or a Rt of 2/day. The kind of round number a busy dev would go for.
It gets better.
The prior two times were measuring the death toll, but this measures sick:
July 24, 1200 EDT: The majority of Earth's population are now sick with the Knox Infection.
Knox is a special case, as far as diseases go, since 100% of the world population gets exposed, it’s nearly 100% fatal, and herd immunity is impossible. The upshot is that both infections and deaths should graph in parallel. In other words, the exponent for infections should be the same as deaths.
There are two important pieces of information to extrapolate from this:
  1. Using the same exponent, we can calculate the point at which the Earth’s population is majority dead: July 27 20:51. The difference between this and the majority sick date is Knox’s average terminal period: 3.37 days (3d 9h)
  2. Working backwards from the majority sick date to the first infection, it took 19.5 days to infect half the world. That implies Patient Zero was infected at 5:04 pm on July 4, just as people were firing up barbeques.
The fact that we land within 4 min of July 4th at 5pm is very, very unlikely to be a coincidence. The Rt, world population, and terminal period all had to line up perfectly. Literally a "one in a billion" chance to be random.
But why did I promised exactly 5pm when it's 4m off?
I think they did the math then rounded this to noon.
July 24, 1200 11:56 EDT: The majority of Earth's population are now sick with the Knox Infection.
So there you go. July 4th at exactly 5pm, patient zero was infected.

"But OP, it was a share DILUTION! Our shares are worth much less."
I know I'll sound wrong at face-value, but as you'll see below this isn't entirely correct. Some people may not care about valuation and GameStop fundamentals as much as factors like DRS (which I'm a huge supporter of and I'm bummed that the dilution will hurt our total DRS % of the float), but please hear me out. The purpose of this post is to derive certain per-share value ratios between before and after the dilution. This post doesn't take any of the massive short interest, DRS, etc. factors into account which obviously make the company even more valuable. In this model I'm assuming all of these have stayed the same pre/post dilution and should cancel out anyways.
Any share prices used are not meant to be FUD. Since I'll keep values like ROI and P/E Ratio constant in the pre and post calculations, what will matter at the end are the ratios derived.
To explain what I mean, I'm splitting this post into two parts, the first will calculate simple post-offering valuations due to our massive cash injection and the second will repeat this for our pre-offering position and compare our increase in valuation to the actual dilution. I'll start with where we're at now in this saga and work backwards.

Section 1. Post-Share Offering Value

Within the last month we've seen two share offerings: 45M and 75M (120M total) shares sold into the market, bringing our outstanding (or total) share count from 306.19M shares to 426.19M shares. The actual dilution percentage here is approximately 39.18%.

I'm getting a little ahead of myself here, but we'll come back to this value later. Lets walk through how our actual cash position has changed in the last month. Since reported cash is from the close of the quarter, in reality the actual numbers may be slightly different at this moment but we'll assume this is negligible.

Cash On Hand (Initial, Pre-Offerings):

As reported from the June 7th, 2024 8-K:
"Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities were $1.083 billion at the close of the quarter"

Cash On Hand (Post 45M Offering):

As reported from the May 24th, 2024 8-K:
"On May 24, 2024, GameStop Corp. (the “Company) announced that it has completed its previously disclosed “at-the-market” equity offering program (the “ATM Program”). The Company sold the 45,000,000 shares of its common stock registered under the ATM Program for aggregate gross proceeds (before commissions and offering expenses) of approximately $933.4 million. So far we've got $1,083,000,000 + $933,400,000, for a total of $2,016,400,000 in cash on hand.

Cash On Hand (Post 75M Offering):

Since the latest 8-K filing for the 75M sale has not been released yet, I'm using HIGH ($40) and LOW ($30) case approximations based on price action today.
HIGH CASE APPROXIMATION:
75,000,000 shares sold at $40 = $3,000,000,000
LOW CASE APPROXIMATION:
75,000,000 shares sold at $30 = $2,250,000,000
I'll have to revisit this when the actual 8-K is released, but we'll end up with a nice range to work with.
So in our HIGH Case: $3,000,000,000 + $2,016,400,000 = $5,016,400,000
And in our LOW Case: $2,250,000,000+ $2,016,400,000 = $4,266,400,000

Return on Investment

If you remember our Fiscal Year 2023 report, we earned $49.5M in net interest income, which barely pushed us into $6.7M profitability. Now that we have a boatload of additional cash, a similarly modest 5% return on investment (ROI) on our cash is going to hold a lot more weight.
What's important to note here is that 5% is a very low ROI, since this income is primarily off of interest. Corporate investments towards growth could lead to 10% or even 15%+ ROI. Due to this, I'll list a 5% ROI Case AND a 10% ROI Case below, which I still believe to be rather low. Maybe someone with more experience can give me a realistic number.

Since I'm calculating ratios and using this as a constant, I could theoretically set this to 1 or any number since it would cancel out at the end. But for the sake of numbers looking more realistic throughout the initial calculations, I'll stick with 30.
While generally an over-simplification, a market capitulation valuation can be estimated by multiplying a company's net income (or profit) by its price-earnings ratio.
Based on Industry Standards, we can model GameStop as either a low-growth traditional retail or high-growth tech company. Since our company seems to be expecting high-growth due to its digital transformation, I'll be using a P/E ratio of 30.
  • Tech Sector: High-growth tech companies often have higher P/E ratios due to their potential for significant earnings growth. P/E ratios of 20-40 or higher are not uncommon for such companies.
  • Retail Sector: Traditional retail companies, especially those with slower growth, tend to have lower P/E ratios, often ranging from 10-20.

Now that we have two averages of pre and post offering value, our increase in base value is:
$24.4175/share / $5.28/share = 3.32210884
This translates to a 232.21% (3.32x) increase in valuation against a 39.18% dilution.

Pure Value Ratios

Assume V is the original company valuation, and 3.32210884V is the new value. To get the value per share, we can divide each by outstanding shares at the time of each valuation, and then divide by the constant V.

Like I said, this whole post does NOT take into account the stock's insane short interest, our DRS'd shares, the extreme resilience of the stock, the competency of the board or anything else that obviously means the stock is valued more. But all of these held constant, the change in cash on hand and ROI is amazing if we have a 232% increase in per-share value after a 39% dilution.
I think what still bums me out the most despite working through this math is the affect on our hard work towards DRS, which I strongly support and will continue doing, but our % float DRS's definitely took a hit from the dilution. I know it's a polarizing topic, but these are just my opinions. Would love to hear more constructive thoughts on this stuff.

Some questions have been on my mind recently in light of the recent GME run:
  1. How do Naked Shorts and Failure to Delivers actually work? (I will be referring to these as NSS and FTD for the remainder of this post)
  2. What exactly in the system and/or regulations is failing? This question is a 2-parter:
    1. What is the technical, mechanistic phenomenon that enables Hedge Funds (HF), Market Makers (MM), and Broker Dealers to make a killing from this unethical [and likely fraudulent] behavior?
    2. How the hell are they getting away with it?
In my quest to find answers I've spent a lot of time Googling, Perplexity-ing, reading Reddit DD, and reading Trimbath's Naked, Short, and Greedy, and I have yet to be able to put the full picture together (but hopefully getting close).

Purpose of the post

I will say outright that I haven't figured this whole thing out. I will also say I'm not an expert in this field and there are likely errors in the information presented. I want help from you guys in getting it right. So, please tell me where I'm wrong and please teach me what you know.
I want to spread this knowledge with fellow apes. I'm not sure how well-understood these things are in the community and I believe this is getting to the heart of the problem and corruption in the financial markets (and maybe also at the heart of what RK/DFV/KG are trying to expose).
I also apologize if this has already been covered in previous DD. I did look.

Failure to Deliver (FTD)

Trimbath's thesis is that the corruption in the market boils down to 3 things in combination: shorts, lending, and failures. She steers the conversation away from NSS (which seems to get all the hype) and puts the focus on FTDs. Participants in the market are allowed to FTD, and keep that position open for a very long time (possibly years). From what I understand when a Seller FTDs, somehow or another whatever fines or fees they pay is marginal compared to doing it the right way and is considered "cost of business". Why bother even pretending to short or naked short a stock when you can just FTD? Also... if the business they're preying on goes under, then the stock goes "poof" along with their open FTDs and they get away with literal stealing.
Consider the analogy to the product market. What's going on with FTDs in the stock market is analogous to you paying Amazon for a bicycle and Amazon doesn't ship the it to you and in fact probably never planned to. Of course, in this case you would know that you didn't get the bicycle, whereas with the shrouded, entangled, electronic stock market, you have no idea you've been ripped off.

Phantom Shares

Every time there is an FTD, a "Phantom Share" is introduced to the market, and as long as that FTD remains open, the corresponding Phantom Share remains in existence (which again, seems like it can be a very long time). This.. thing.. is thin air, "it's a woozie, it's fairy dust, it doesn't exist, it's never landed", and yet they show up in brokerage accounts as real shares and [at least] retail investors are none the wiser. Holders of Phantom Shares think they have voting rights, but they don't and the brokerages pull some seemingly criminal backdoor statistical magic tricks to make the numbers line up when they turn in votes to the Issuer, but that's as much as I'll say on the corporate governance side of this.
In normal market conditions they get away with it because investors think the shares showing up in their account are real and they're still able to trade, business as usual. So as long as the markets behave normally, the culprits get away with it and there is virtually zero visibility into what's going on behind the scenes. But GME is not normal market conditions... it is more like an edge case or a boundary condition which could finally break and expose their scheme.
Not only does NSS drive a stock's price down via the sell action, but it also dilutes the stock by injecting phantom shares into the float which drives the price down even more. What a power move.

DRS

How many phantom shares of GME are out there? 10% of the float? 100%? 1000%? I would love to know the answer but from what I understand it's virtually impossible to figure this out. If someone knows how please comment. From what I understand the only way to suss this out is if the entire float gets DRS'd. When a share is DRS'd the broker has to materialize an actual share to be transferred out of the DTC to the transfer agent (Computershare in the GME case). If any significant number of Phantom Shares exist, then at some point, when most of the float has been DRS'd, the brokers are going to come back saying "Sorry, I can't find a share for you". This is because no more legitimate shares exist in the float. I think RK's trump card might be just this: if he DRS's 17mm shares, it could pull the curtain back on this entire thing and set off a chain reaction that sends the financial system into chaos (and hopefully bankrolls the apes, although I'm not convinced of that).

Mechanics

Alright, here is the juicy scoop. How do trades actually work in the US stock market and how do NSS, FTD, and Phantom Shares play into it? As you'd expect, it's pretty fking complicated. There are a lot of parties involved, a lot of moving parts, and very little information out there about it.
Before getting started, I want to specifically shout out Susanne Trimbath (author of Naked, Short, and Greedy) and SuperStonk's own JustBeingPunny who wrote a magnificent post on this 3 years ago; the diagrams below are mostly taken from his post (TY king).
Ok, down to brass tax. I'm going to present 2 scenarios for how a NSS can play out.
Here are the primary parties involved:
  • Buyer (think you)
  • Buyer's Broker (think etrade)
  • Seller (think Citadel)
  • Seller's broker (think Citadel again 🤯)
  • The NSCC (National Securities Clearing Corporation)
    • A self-regulated (ie, run by the culprits it's supposed to regulate) organization that is responsible for the clearing and settlement of trades
    • A subsidiary of DTCC
  • Participant's in the NSCC's Stock Borrow Program
Here are the primary concepts involved (not exhaustive):
  • Naked Short Selling (NSS)
  • Failure to Deliver (FTD)
  • Phantom Shares
  • Continuous Net Settlement.
    • An NSCC program/algorithm that simplifies the clearing and settling of transactions. Instead of processing trade-for-trade transactions (which would be a lot of computational overhead and latency), they keep track of all the buys and sells of each stock at what price by each broker and at the end of each day perform a net calculation and only fully transact the net settlements in stocks and cash with the brokers.
  • Stock Borrow Program
    • A program the NSCC put in place to guarantee settlement of transactions. Basically trying to make it so that buyers and sellers don't have to worry about their counterparty when they enter into a trade. A nice thing to have in theory. In order to make this guarantee, the SBP is necessitated to kick in when a party fails to deliver (cash or shares). I think most brokers are required to be participants in this program (not sure about this), and when a Seller FTDs a share, the NSCC will go look for a Participant to borrow that share from in order to complete the trade on the buy end.
For NSS+FTD there are two mechanistic scenarios I'm aware of and I've drawn up diagrams for each.

How does the Naked Short Seller profit in these scenarios?

It may be a little obfuscated, but both scenarios function exactly like a normal short sell (well, mostly). The key is in the daily marked-to-market transactions that hit the Seller's account (see Scenario A Point 4 and Scenario B Point 3 in the above diagrams). If the Seller had sold a real share, they would receive the value of that stock on that day in cash. But here, the buyer's money never makes it to the Seller, so how do they make money? The daily adjustments to the cash collateral being held by either the NSCC itself or the Lending Participant are taken from the Seller's account. If the stock price goes up, cash is withdrawn from the Seller's account and added to the collateral which is tracking with the current value of the underlying (makes sense... shorted stock goes up, shorter loses money). But when the stock goes down, the collateral must be reduced to keep it tracking with the underlying, and this is done by transferring money from the collateral into the Seller's account (makes sense... shorted stock goes down, shorter makes money).

Open Questions

The full picture is not complete for me. Hopefully these diagrams are mostly accurate (please comment if you have corrections). There are some critical pieces left out that I would like answers to:
  1. Here is the main question: Who is making money from this and how? I don't want hand wavy answers; I want to know who and exactly how. I think this comes down to interest rates and fees associated with the back-assward loans that get conjured up between the naked short seller, the DTCC, and participants of the stock borrow program. Somehow it is more profitable to the parties involved to do it this way than for the seller to locate and borrow an actual share (ie, the right way).
  2. What level of re-hypothecation exists here?
    1. Can a broker lend out or use a phantom share as collateral to another party?
    2. Can the NSCC re-hypothecate the collateral they hold for FTDs for other transactions?
  3. Who are the Stock Borrow Program participants?
  4. What happens to the phantom shares that Stock Borrow Program participants get stuck with? If the Participant is a broker, then does a retail investor get stuck with it?
  5. What level of traceability exists? Is it possible to trace a specific phantom share in my account to the party that minted it?

Good afternoon I am a 40 year old mother of 3. Pretty healthy until last August when I was diagnosed with DVT and PE. During my hospitalization they did an echo and I was diagnosed with mitro valve prolapse. In March I have a follow up echo and I finally got into the cardiologist. Well the cardiologist says he doesn’t agree with those tests because they weren’t done at his affiliated hospital and the other one was done in an imaging center. He sent me for a nuclear stress test and a 30 day monitor.
Can anyone help me interpret the results until my follow up with the cardiologist in mid August.
Conclusions - The post stress calculated left ventricular ejection fraction is 80%. - Negative exercise stress test by ECG criteria. - The patient exercised for a total of 9 minutes 11 seconds and achieved 10.6 METs. The maximal HR reached was 162 bpm which represents 90% of the maximum age predicted HR with a peak BP of 136/78 mmHg demonstrating a normal BP response during stress. - Motion artifact is noted. - Probably normal myocardial SPECT perfusion. - Clinical correlation is recommended. Findings Presentation and History Indications include Chest pain and Angina pectoris.
Perfusion TID ratio is 0.72. Function Gating data is obtained from stress images. The post stress calculated left ventricular ejection fraction is 80%. The left ventricular end diastolic volume under stress is 44 ml and corrected by BSA: 28.21 ml/m2. The left ventricular end systolic volume under stress is 9 ml and corrected by BSA: 5.77 ml/m2.
