2024.05.29 01:17 luckyclucks I'm really trying my best out here, but it just never seems enough for them.

Literally the title, because that's all I felt like I've been doing for so long now. I'm finishing up school, I'm trying to improve myself physically and mentally, and I've been looking to develop skills for my career, but it doesn't seem like my parents will ever acknowledge my efforts. It's gotten to the point where I'm just exhausted from everything and my motivation for anything is just dwindling. It always goes back to, "Why are you always on your computer? You're always sitting down, you never do anything." I've explained to them that my career is going to be literally in front of a computer 24/7, jobs and internships are all online applications; I have to literally be connected to my email to see if anything comes in, I'm literally doing everything I can.
Then the thing all Asian parents, or at least the ones within my family, talk about. Weight. Just learned that I'm a heavy snorer, which for a women in her 20's isn't really the best thing to hear about. But my mom is taking it to another level, due to my dad having health issues and being a heavy snorer too. The thing is, I hate being reminded that I'm "different" from relatives my age. I'm bigger, "uglier" (in my mom's words), and just not a good enough Asian daughter. Every time I feel like I'm really back on the path of loving myself and being content with who I am and my body, as soon as I see my parents, especially my mom, it all goes back to square 1, even square 0 at some points. Like obviously I want to work out for myself, but hearing things like, "If you don't lose weight, no one is ever going to look at you and date you." I just don't like working out by myself and right now I don't have anyone who is free to work out with me.
Hearing these negative comments about how my life has been is just draining. All I can keep doing is just the same routine over and over while listening to everything. I just hope I can get a job after I graduate from university and can move out, cause I can't do this any longer.

THE CASE FOR OMEGA-3 SUPPLEMENTATION TO LOWER AGGRESSION

People who regularly eat fish or take fish oil supplements are getting omega-3 fatty acids, which play a critical role in brain function. Research has long shown a basis in the brain for aggressive and violent behavior, and that poor nutrition is a risk factor for behavior problems. Penn neurocriminologist Adrian Raine has for years been studying whether omega-3 supplementation could therefore reduce aggressive behavior, publishing five randomized controlled trials from different countries. He found significant effects but wanted to know whether these findings extended beyond his laboratory.

WHAT ARE ALTERNATIVES TO OZEMPIC AND WEGOVY AND ARE THEY SAFE?

With summer around the corner, telehealth outlets and medical spas are going into hyperdrive advertising the sale of semaglutide, the active ingredient in popular weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. Recent shortages of the brand-name drugs have opened the door to copycat versions that, while legal, also raise some concerns for consumers, says Kelly Ann Barnes, Northeastern professor of pharmacy law. The copycat drugs are made by specialized pharmacies known as compounding pharmacies, which are allowed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to make off-label

2024.05.29 01:11 galaxyfan1997 Library Page examination conflicting with jury summons (Advice Needed)

Hi. I’m a recent LSU graduate and have been job hunting. I applied for a library page position yesterday. Then today, I received a jury summons for the final week of June (lucky me 😫). I checked my application status today and it says I’m qualified pending my examination score. What’s worrying me is that I’ll take the exam and get a job offer right before I’m supposed to do jury duty. Additionally, I could have sworn when I applied that the location was the River City branch, but now it says ALL branches. Does that mean I’ll be assigned a random branch, or will I have to work at different branches on different days? I can’t call HR tonight because they’re closed, so I thought I’d ask here.
To anyone who’s worked at a library in BR, could you please clarify how “all library branches” plays out? Also, should I call before scheduling an exam notifying about jury duty? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

2024.05.29 01:10 alelpzv US Tourism Visa Application Help

Hello Everyone! Trying my best to build my case for my tourism visa application.
I am 25(M) and from Honduras.
My mom is illegally in US (since 21 years ago) My dad has a tourist visa. My long term girlfriend (5 yrs) has a tourist visa but we are not married. I am enrolled in university for computer science and about 60-70% done.
As for my job, I don't have a formal job as I am a cryptocurrency investor, have a decent 6 figure net worth which makes most jobs in my home country irrelevant and crypto investing is time consuming but lucrative.
Own 2 cars.
Did a 3 month 8 country euro trip last year. (No visa needed for europe) Also visited costa rica 2 years ago.
Do you think I stand a chance and is there a way to improve my application? My main concern is they don't take my source of income seriously, if so, what could I do about it?
Could I call myself just an "investor" in the application?
Thank you so much for your time.

2024.05.29 01:09 Working_Duck7438 [Hiring] Writer for Graduate School Application

Hello, I am looking to hire a writer to help with my medical school application. I believe this type of work falls under the ghostwriting category.
I am very passionate about my application, but I work full-time in a pretty demanding job, have other obligations that limit the amount of time I can spend on my application, and I am not a very talented writer on top of being a very slow writer, especially when it comes to writing about myself. I don't want to jeopardize my chances of acceptance so I am looking for help writing short essays for my secondary applications. I plan to write as much as I can myself and already some material that's already written (which I can provide and you can pull from), but I need professional help writing it and stringing it all together.

2024.05.29 01:03 Temporary-Car9388 Is it a red flag if I 20F finds post on his 21m insta of ex situationship from 2022-2023?

Hey!
So, I might this guy off tinder and we hit it off pretty well. He introduced me to all of his friends and we immediately began spending a lot of time together. He was such a gentleman and a genuinely caring person which I like.
However, I can recall two separate occasions:
The first one we were just hanging out watching this documentary. I noticed he kept getting phone calls over and over from this one girl almost at least 15 times during a span of two hours. He said that it was his friend calling because he said he would help her with her job applications.
The second time was when a message from the same girl, asked “WYD”
I noted that as being strange but wrote them both off as them just being friends
Well, then, I finally started following him on Instagram. And I noticed that the girl with the same name that I had recognized popping up on his phone those other times was posted multiple times on his Instagram. In most of the posts, he had his arm around her, and there were comments from her that were sexually suggestive.
I decided to ask him straight up, who was this girl on his Instagram. He said it was an ex situationship that ended because of the toxicity, that they were just friends now, and that he was sorry for not bringing it up but he will be more honest and upfront with me.
The only things is that I had been in a relationship were I heard the “we’re just friends” line. But then later found out that they had a conversation during our relationship saying, if we broke up, they would plan to get together. Although he has given me no reason to not trust him and I’m trying not to inflict past trauma/ hurt on to the person i’m seeing, I can’t help but be skeptical.
I can tell by his actions and words that he likes me even though we’re not official yet. But this seems to be waving a huge red flag for me and I don’t want to look stupid and end up hurt in the end. Is this a reg flag? An overreaction? Please help a girl out. Thank you!

2024.05.29 01:02 Interesting-Usual451 Christianity & the Roman Empire vs Modern Day Understanding of Homosexuality.

Christianity & the Roman Empire vs Homosexuality.
Understanding the Term "Arsenokoitai" in Biblical Context ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
The term "arsenokoitai," (Greek origin) often translated in modern Bibles as "homosexuals" or "men who bed men," appears in the New Testament, specifically in the letters of Paul, written during the first century AD. Understanding its historical and cultural context can shed light on its meaning and implications.
Summary of Linguistics and Paul's Use of "Arsenokoitai" ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
Paul’s Use of "Arsenokoitai":
The term was likely intended to cover a broad range of sexually immoral activities, particularly those involving exploitation and abuse, rather than consensual same-sex relationships. Paul could have used more precise words in Greek to describe the roles of male on male sexual contact which are highlighted below:
Alternative Greek Terms:
Used to describe effeminate men or those who took on a passive role in sexual relationships, often derogatory.
Another term for men in passive sexual roles, also used pejoratively.
Referred to boys in pederastic relationships with older men.
Terms describing the active (older) and passive (younger) partners in pederastic relationships.
Reasons for Using "Arsenokoitai":
Paul wrote in Greek to reach a broad audience across the Roman Empire, including both Jews and Gentiles. The Greek language allowed him to communicate effectively with diverse communities.
Paul’s teachings were influenced by Jewish law and ethics, which condemned exploitative sexual behaviors. The term "arsenokoitai" may have been derived from the Septuagint (Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible) to address behaviors seen as immoral.
By coining a new term, Paul could address various forms of sexual immorality without getting entangled in the specific cultural nuances and roles emphasized by existing terms. This allowed him to focus on ethical behavior broadly, aligning with Christian values of justice and protection of the vulnerable.
Time Frame and Historical Context ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
The term "arsenokoitai" appears in 1 Corinthians 6:9 and 1 Timothy 1:10. These letters are generally dated to around 53-54 AD for 1 Corinthians and the late first century AD for 1 Timothy.
This period falls within the early Roman Empire, which began in 27 BC and continued through the first few centuries AD. The Roman Empire was characterized by its vast influence over the Mediterranean region and beyond.
Roman Practices and Power Dynamics ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
Bathhouses were social spaces where various interactions, including sexual encounters, took place. These settings often saw exploitative and coercive behaviors, especially involving slaves and lower-status individuals.
Exploitation and Violence ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
Many slaves and prostitutes in Roman society faced sexual exploitation and violence. Slaves, having little to no autonomy, were particularly vulnerable to abuse from their masters.
Early Christian and Jewish Ethics ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
Early Christian and Jewish teachings emphasized the protection of vulnerable individuals. This ethical stance contrasted sharply with many practices in Roman society.
The condemnation of "arsenokoitai" in the New Testament can be seen as a critique of exploitative sexual practices rather than a blanket condemnation of consensual same-sex relationships. Early Christian ethics sought to promote justice and protect those who were marginalized and exploited.
Translation Challenges and Modern Psychology ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
Modern Interpretations:
Translating "arsenokoitai" as "homosexuals" in modern Bibles can be misleading. The term originally addressed specific exploitative behaviors prevalent in the Roman context.
Cultural Misunderstandings:
Modern readers often project contemporary understandings of sexuality onto ancient texts, which can distort the original meanings and intentions. The ancient concern was more about justice and protecting the vulnerable than about regulating consensual sexual relationships.
Influence of Modern Psychology ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
The term "homosexual" first appeared in an English Bible translation in the Revised Standard Version (RSV) in 1946. This change was part of an effort to modernize and clarify the language of the Bible.
The mid-20th century was a period of heightened social conservatism, especially in the United States. This cultural backdrop influenced how sexual behaviors were viewed and classified.
Homosexuality as a Mental Disorder ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
In 1946 and 1947, homosexuality was classified as a mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). This classification reflected contemporary psychological theories and societal attitudes, viewing homosexuality as a deviation from the norm.
Different Types of Relationships ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
While the term "arsenokoitai" focuses on specific sexual acts, it does not address the broader and more nuanced aspects of relationships. Understanding the different facets of relationships is crucial to recognizing the limitations of this term.
Emotional Bonds: Many relationships are built on deep emotional connections, mutual respect, and love. These aspects are not explicitly addressed in the term "arsenokoitai."
Relationships often involve support, companionship, and shared experiences, which are fundamental to human connection and go beyond mere physical interactions.
Romantic relationships involve expressions of love, care, and affection. These elements contribute significantly to the depth and richness of the relationship.
Many romantic relationships are characterized by commitment and a shared vision for the future, aspects not considered in the term "arsenokoitai."
The Bible does not provide detailed accounts of consensual same-sex relationships that reflect the complexities and multifaceted nature of these bonds. The focus on specific sexual acts, like those implied by "arsenokoitai," fails to capture the entirety of such relationships.
Intimacy ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
Intimacy in relationships goes far beyond physical acts; it encompasses emotional closeness, trust, and deep personal connection. The biblical texts, particularly those using terms like "arsenokoitai," often fail to address this broader understanding of intimacy. In healthy relationships, intimacy is about sharing one's innermost thoughts, fears, and dreams with another person, creating a bond that is both profound and nurturing. This kind of intimacy fosters mutual respect and understanding, essential components of any loving relationship.
One crucial aspect of intimacy that is often overlooked and overshadowed by the focus on "arsenokoitai" is emotional intimacy—the deep sense of acceptance and validation one receives from being truly known and loved. This emotional intimacy is weaponized when biblical texts are used to condemn and marginalize individuals based on their sexuality. Instead of fostering acceptance and emotional closeness, these interpretations create barriers and promote exclusion. True intimacy, rooted in emotional acceptance, is about affirming each other's worth and creating a safe space for vulnerability and genuine connection. When this form of intimacy is ignored or denied, it undermines the foundational principles of love and compassion that should guide our relationships.
Love ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
Love is the cornerstone of all meaningful relationships and a central theme in Christian teachings. Jesus emphasized love above all else, teaching us to love our neighbors as ourselves and to show compassion and kindness to everyone. In the context of relationships, love manifests as unwavering support, care, and dedication to the well-being of the other person. The term "arsenokoitai" and its traditional interpretations often miss this crucial aspect of relationships. Love is not just about physical attraction or acts; it is about forming a deep, abiding connection that transcends superficial differences and challenges societal norms. True love, as taught by Jesus, is inclusive and unconditional, celebrating the uniqueness of each individual and their right to love and be loved authentically.
Judgment ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
Judgment is a significant theme in both religious teachings and societal interactions, often influencing how individuals are perceived and treated. In the context of biblical texts, particularly those like "arsenokoitai," judgment is frequently wielded as a tool for exclusion and condemnation. Jesus taught us to refrain from judging others, emphasizing that judgment is reserved for God alone. In Matthew 7:1-2, He clearly states, "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
When interpretations of terms like "arsenokoitai" are used to judge and condemn individuals based on their sexuality, they stray from the core message of love and acceptance that Jesus preached. This kind of judgment creates divisions and fosters a culture of exclusion, where people are marginalized and denied the dignity and respect they deserve. True Christian teachings call us to embrace others with compassion, understanding, and an open heart.
Judgment, when misused, can be a powerful weapon that inflicts deep emotional and psychological harm. It stands in stark contrast to the values of love, intimacy, and acceptance that form the foundation of healthy, meaningful relationships. By moving away from judgment and towards a more inclusive, compassionate approach, we honor the true spirit of Jesus's teachings and create a more loving and just world for everyone.
Historical Misinterpretations and Their Consequences ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
  1. The Crusades (11th to 13th Centuries)
Initiated by Pope Urban II in 1095, the Crusades were a series of religious wars aimed at reclaiming the Holy Land from Muslim control.
Impact: Led to widespread violence, loss of life, and long-lasting animosity between Christians and Muslims. The Crusades also had significant impacts on Jewish communities, which were often targeted by crusaders.
  1. The Inquisition (12th to 19th Centuries)
Established by the Catholic Church to root out heresy and enforce orthodoxy. The most famous was the Spanish Inquisition, beginning in 1478.
Resulted in the persecution, torture, and execution of thousands of people accused of heresy, witchcraft, and other religious crimes. Jewish and Muslim converts to Christianity (conversos and Moriscos) were particularly targeted.
  1. The Thirty Years' War (1618-1648)
A complex and destructive conflict involving many European powers, rooted in religious disputes between Protestant and Catholic states within the Holy Roman Empire.
Impact: Caused immense suffering and loss of life, with significant political and territorial changes in Europe. The war ended with the Peace of Westphalia, which established principles of religious tolerance in Europe.
  1. Salem Witch Trials (1692-1693)
A series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts, driven by Puritan religious beliefs and interpretations of the Bible.
Impact: Led to the execution of 20 people and the imprisonment of many others, creating an atmosphere of fear and hysteria.
  1. Colonialism and Missionary Activity
European colonial powers often justified their expansion and domination of indigenous peoples through a religious mandate to spread Christianity.
Impact: Led to the suppression of indigenous cultures, forced conversions, and significant social disruption. Examples include the Spanish colonization of the Americas and the British colonial activities in Africa and Asia.
  1. Anti-Semitism
Biblical interpretations and teachings have historically contributed to anti-Semitic attitudes and policies. Notably, Jews were often blamed for the death of Jesus and portrayed negatively in Christian teachings.
Impact: Led to widespread persecution of Jewish communities, including pogroms, expulsions from various European countries, and ultimately contributing to the Holocaust.
  1. Slavery and Racism
Certain interpretations of the Bible were used to justify the enslavement of African people, particularly in the United States. Verses from the Old and New Testaments were cited to argue that slavery was a divinely sanctioned institution.
Impact: Justified the transatlantic slave trade and the systemic exploitation and oppression of African Americans, leading to deep social and racial divides that persist to this day.
  1. Wars of Religion in France (1562-1598)
A series of conflicts between Catholics and Huguenots (French Protestants) in France, rooted in religious and political disputes.
Impact: Resulted in significant violence and upheaval, including massacres such as the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre in 1572, and ended with the Edict of Nantes, which granted limited tolerance to Protestants.
  1. Northern Ireland Conflict (The Troubles) (Late 20th Century)
A violent conflict between primarily Protestant unionists who wanted Northern Ireland to remain part of the United Kingdom and Catholic nationalists who wanted it to join the Republic of Ireland.
Impact: Led to decades of violence, terrorism, and social division, resulting in significant loss of life and lasting political tension.
These examples illustrate how interpretations of the Bible and religious authority have been used to justify conflicts, persecutions, and social disharmony throughout history. Understanding these events highlights the importance of careful and compassionate interpretation of religious texts to prevent their misuse and promote peace and understanding.
Conclusion ‐--------------------‐--------------------‐--------------------
Understanding the term "arsenokoitai" requires a deep dive into the historical and cultural context of the Roman Empire and early Christian teachings. This term likely referred to exploitative sexual behaviors common in Roman society, characterized by significant power imbalances and a lack of genuine consent.
Early Christian ethics, rooted in Jewish traditions, emphasized protecting the vulnerable and promoting justice, which helps explain the biblical condemnation of such practices.
The translation of "arsenokoitai" to "homosexuals" in the mid-20th century was influenced by the social and psychological context of that time, including the classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder.
This historical perspective highlights the importance of considering cultural and temporal contexts when interpreting ancient texts. Moreover, the biblical texts focus primarily on specific sexual acts rather than the broader aspects of relationships, such as emotional bonds, romantic love, and mutual support. Recognizing these dimensions is crucial for a more compassionate and comprehensive understanding of relationships.

2024.05.29 00:57 Cute-Jellyfish1876 Hear me out

M22. To say I’ve been struggling to find work since November of last year is an understatement. I’m honestly not surprised. Whatever I get would be my first actual job and have 0 experience other than working as a filmmaker, and we all know nobody gives a shit about that. I am at the desperate point where I would happily start lying in my applications and my resume. Not even saying I have 2 years of catering experience is helping for fast food places so I just wanna know if this idea I have is good or stupid.
I could say I have 5+ years experience as a server, but some applications and interviews literally ask for details about where you worked and such, and it looks suspicious to say “I have 5+ years experience but I won’t tell you where I worked hehe, also don’t fucking contact my supervisor plz”
So what if I say I worked at some place that has been permanently closed for a while? Example…Yeah I worked at Marie Callender’s in Lancaster, CA for 6 years. Reason why I left? The place fucking closed that’s why. If they actually go and investigate and research…who are they gonna contact? Are they seriously gonna do an FBI investigation to look for who was the previous supervisomanager of a Souplantation that closed 3 years ago just to verify I actually worked there? If so, in how much trouble could I get?
Idk…as you can see I’m pretty desperate. I’m open to get downvoted and flamed if this is a stupid idea, but I’m at the point where I would do anything. My bills are overdue and I need to SURVIVE.
Thanks in advance

2024.05.29 00:56 TrveImmortality Breed recommendations for apartment living

Introduction
1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs?
We've always had dogs in the family, but I have never owned a dog myself.
2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder?
A reputable breeder.
3) Describe your ideal dog.
A companion that can chill during the day and go on a longer walk once a day. I work remotely full time, so the dog would rarely be left alone.
4) What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why?
I was primarily interested in Cavaliers, but I got discouraged by their health issues, particularly this post by PETA.
5) What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do?
It has to be comfortable in a car, longer trips would be rare but could happen. Walking without a leash would be a huge plus.
6) Do you want to compete with your dog in a sport (e.g. agility, obedience, rally) or use your dog for a form of work (e.g. hunting, herding, livestock guarding)? If so, how much experience do you have with this work/sport?
Not really.
Care Commitments
7) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day?
For active time devoted to the dog - probably between 2 and 3 hours on weekdays.
8) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park?
Taking walks - up to an hour each day. I live in the suburbs and there's a lot of hilly forests nearby which is a nice area to have walks. A dog park visit would be possible at least once per week.
9) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly?
I don't mind brushing and nail clipping at home. For trimming I would rather pay a professional to do it every once in a while.
Personal Preferences
10) What size dog are you looking for?
Small and medium sized.
11) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle?
Moderate amount of shedding should be fine. Lower amount of barking preferred but not a deal-breaker.
12) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area?
It's quite important.
Dog Personality and Behavior
13) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space?
A snuggly dog, as long as it still allows me to work during the day.
14) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one that’s more eager-to-please?
Eager-to-please.
15) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard? How would you prefer your dog to greet strangers or visitors?
I'd prefer the dog to be friendly towards strangers and visitors.
16) Are you willing to manage a dog that is aggressive to other dogs?
No.
17) Are there any other behaviors you can’t deal with or want to avoid?
No.
Lifestyle
18) How often and how long will the dog be left alone?
Rarely, and not for longer that a few hours. As I mentioned before, I work remotely full time so I'm home for most of the day.
19) What are the dog-related preferences of other people in the house and what will be their involvement in caring for the dog?
The responsibility and time spent with the dog will be shared with my SO.
20) Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets? What breed or type of animal are they?
No.
21) Will the dog be interacting with children regularly?
Not regularly. I do have smaller kids in the family though.
22) Do you rent or plan to rent in the future? If applicable, what breed or weight restrictions are on your current lease?
I rent an apartment, the dog can't be too destructive to the furniture and other equipment, otherwise no restrictions.
23) What city or country do you live in and are you aware of any laws banning certain breeds?
Poland.
24) What is the average temperature of a typical summer and winter day where you live?
Freezing in winter, up to 30c in the summer.
Additional Information and Questions
25) Please provide any additional information you feel may be relevant.
26) Feel free to ask any questions below.

2024.05.29 00:55 treesarentsobad Looking for any advice on getting into EMCR

(Edit: I went maybe a bit too in-depth here, as I wanted to get opinions on my specific work history/responsibilities… but it turned into a bit of an essay. For the TLDR just skip to the last paragraph. Sorry)
Hello,
I am hoping to work in EMCR, as the field of emergency and disaster response truly interests me. I have a few specific questions, but would also truly appreciate any advice at all.
As I understand it, education is important but less so than experience. I graduated this Spring from UVic as an older student (I’m 32) with a BSc Geography, concentration in climate and sustainability. One of my main concerns is how applicable/attractive (to Hiring Managers) my work experience will be. I have worked for the past 12 years with a private reforestation contractor - 10.5 years as a mid-level field field operations manager followed by 1.5 years as a senior project coordinator. In the project coordinator role I had significant accountabilities:
In my prior role as a field operations manager I had many similar responsibilities - albeit at a mid-management level, limited to sub-projects and with a maximum of 18 employees under my supervision/management. Over the years I was involved in the response and management of various emergencies in both roles at my company. I participated in the coordination and execution of emergency evacuations of our field operations on two occasions (rapidly encroaching wildfires), and responded to many vehicular and medical emergencies. I would also venture that the entire process of supervising/implementing reforestation projects is essentially an exercise in responding and adapting to successive, continuous emergencies both literal and figurative; everything (personnel, supply chain, field assets, etc) can and will go wrong - yet the project must be done on time and within budget.
The job was extremely demanding, and while I loved it at times I have burned out on the severe stress and other negative aspects, and am looking to make a change. I would love to know how applicable my work experience is to EMCR generally. Also, I am curious as to what sort of positions exist in the ministry (there are few external postings currently), and if there are any that may be particularly suited to my education/experience. Would it be advisable to get my foot in the door in a position that I feel my work experience is less applicable to and which I am less interested in? For example, there is a current posting for a CLK09R Finance Clerk. Some of my experience corresponds to the accountabilities listed in that posting, but I am definitely hoping to work within EMCR as something other than a finance clerk.
I am also considering JIBC’s associate certificate in emergency management. Any advice or opinions on whether or not this would be worthwhile would be very appreciated.

2024.05.29 00:49 NickeKass Its supposed to be my 20 year high school reunion this year. Im feeling like crap for it.

I say "supposed to" because I didnt have enough credits to graduate on time. Then, just as I did get those credits, the school pulled a "whoopsie, we forgot about a few other classes". I graduated a year and a half later. My diploma says 2005, but I was handed it in 2006. I have no idea where I fit into that. Ive only had to put it on 2 job applications. Part of that extra time was because I didnt focus on my online classes... undiagnosed ADHD for the lose.
Out of boredom, I searched for a 20 year facebook group for the school. I saw it right away. They have the picture from the 10 year up. I know its the 10 year because one of the guys died just shy of 30. He landed his dream job then 6 months later, just died. I dont feel like I am where I want to be right now. I think only a few people from my class have contacted me over the years. I dont know if I would be even welcome at the reunion. I was supposed to graduate with them but I didn't. Would I be faking it? Whats the point in going to see them? I hardly got along with people. I was "weird". We didnt have "neurodivergent" but they did have diagnosis for things. If you had the diagnosis, you were left alone. I didnt get my ADHD diagnosis until a few years ago. It didnt help that my brother had the "hyperactive" ADHD which flooded over to my social life while I had the "inattentive" ADHD. I
Im looking at the 10 year pic. I can remember a names. Some of the faces look familiar. Most of the people are dressing as if they were still in highschool. Maybe they have changed in the 10 year pic. I know I was still dressing in black dockers pants, black boots, and t-shirts until I got a job. It wasn't until about 2019 that I started dressing in jeans, normalish shoes, and a long sleeve henley shirt. I dropped the long trench coat shortly after highschool and started growing my hair out as well.
What would I gain to go there? Why does it hurt a little bit to see that 10 year pic and to think 20 years has passed since then? It feels like its only been a few years but on the other hand, I had to do some personal growth towards the end of highschool. I actually smile and talk to people now. That old me feels like a lifetime ago. I know most of these people dont care about me. I had one friend in highschool towards the end. My main "friend" group told me to leave about half way through highschool. No one came looking for me. No one talked to me again. People I knew since gradeschool stopped talking to me because I said 1 movie was "just ok". Part of me wonders what would have happened if I had good friends there but Im not sure where I would have found them in school.

2024.05.29 00:49 bean3217 I don't know how to do this

I'm not sure how to approach my life anymore. I struggle to wrap my mind around how big collapse is. The scope of what's currently happening and what's approaching.. feeling like I have an idea of how bad it can get, will almost certainly, maybe certainly, get. The terror of that, the imensense sadness about all the loss.. all of the innocent and beautiful life forms were taking down with us.. the human caused, human suffering.. and I could go on and on and not even scratch the tiniest bit of the surface. I've been reading wmWendell Berry lately and much of what I've read he wrote shortly before or just as I was being born. I find it horrifying and somehow comforting at the same time. We're doomed and i wonder what he thinks now. Sometimes I think I'm going crazy and sometimes I think I'm going sane. Either way I don't know what to do with it. No one in my life is talking about it.. or wants to talk about it.. they want to pay the bills and take their kids to activities and get the laundry done and that all makes sense in a way and doesn't in another.. I want there to be a future that makes some sort of sense and holds some hope. What makes sense now? I go through my daily life and some of it still works for me. My dog wants to play and the woods are still beautiful and tending my native plant garden doesn't feel totally worthess and brings me joy but its also all overshadowed with dred. The things I do with family, friends, neighbors etc all feel worthwhile and even more important but also sad. But other parts.. goals I had, plans I had.. assumptions I made about a future I knew was never certain but I thought pretty likely hopefully, seem like fools errands down the wrong path now at best.. me being more of the problem driving us to disaster and a complete waste of time at worst. For example, I've come to really struggle with my job.. I'm a public school teacher and if I tried to tell you what that's been like since the pandemic this post would never end. Trust me though it's bad, faster than expected at least where I work. Every day is hard and i don't see it getting easier. I have 10 years to go till any type of retirement is possible. Idk if I have 10 years in me or if the system has 10 years or the environmentor the government or any of it. There are some things I'd like to do with the pension though before it evaporates with the rest of my illusions of stability. Plus my pay checks in between plus health insurance and debt and on and on. I feel trapped and like maybe I should start digging some sort of escape tunnel but it's not like the system is going to loosen it's grip on me willingly. I know no one has the answers and I'm not even sure what my questions are. I feel lost though and I don't know what to do about it. Thanks.

2024.05.29 00:46 Excellent_Suit_10 Do I have a chance to find a job in Utah as a European, who can help me get a VISA?

I am from Hungary (member of EU), I am a Hungarian citizen. I have a master's degree in "computer science engineering". My area of expertise is cyber security. I would like to live and work here happily in Utah, but only if I get a job and a working VISA.
I checked Linkedin, I see there are many open positions in Utah. The only thing that is not clear to me: Should I send applications for open positions in Utah with my actual state? Is there a need for foreigners here, and would any company help me apply for a working VISA?
Or do I have absolutely zero chance of getting a job and a working VISA as a Hungarian citizen?
If you have any recommendations for companies that I should try, please let me know in a comment or message!

2024.05.29 00:45 TaxOk3585 What can my manager be up to with this, when she's already guilty of wage theft?

So to start off, I do not need this job. I picked it up while between jobs, and am now in a salaried office position where I am treated very well. In other words, I'm in a position to do something here.
I'll describe the weird situation, and then will go into the confirmed wage theft below it.
The weird situation: Pretty much since I've started, I've watched as people lose hours they need. I was hired full time, and then slashed down to 23 hours. I believe it was maybe a week after that, that a new hire was brought on. To be honest, I'm pretty sure my hiring caused slashes in the hours, too. The store is extremely overstaffed. Most stores (including high volume) work their best with 3 people, 4 max. That's not corporate schlock, that's coming from me working at other stores, and seeing/ hearing it. My home store is low traffic, and typically staffs 5 people, with 4 already being more than needed. But people keep being hired on FT hours, and dropped down to unlivable hours. Also kind of weird, is that she lets anyone split up the tips, and product is all pretty much free without limit, to employees.
I feel like this is some kind of scheme, but I'm not sure what it is.
The wage theft, comes in the form of her telling us to cut her in on all tips. When I was at another store, their GM alerted me to this not being allowed. And when I looked into it, it is in fact illegal in my state. GMs may only take tips, if they are the only person handling your experience, from the kitchen to the bill. Which is not the case.
I did bring up the tips, to the DM, and I know he spoke with her. But I am 1000% certain that no one's wages- physical or digital- have been returned. And she is still employed. Gets overtime hours, while everyone else is scrounging. And yes, she is paid hourly.
She put me on the schedule this coming weekend, and part of me feels I shouldn't go. But regardless of that, what could this all be? Does anyone recognize this behavior?

2024.05.29 00:45 Powerful_Debt_2787 AITA Im not travelling to see my boyfriend anymore

Im 26f and my bf is 28m, we’ve been in a relationship for 1 year. Im always making an effort to travel to his house roughly 30minutes away weather I finish work at 10pm or 10am I work doing sleepovers at my job also so can work 3days in a row doing 2 sleeps a week sometimes then finishing at 10pm on my last shift day 3. I make the effort because I want to see him but it seems to go unnoticed when I’m with him he sits on his computer for hours and then might sit with me for 30mins to an hour to watch something later on. He’s autistic so also isn’t very emotionally expressive and likes his space when with me all of which I have come to terms with and don’t mind but I feel unwanted. My problem is that he never drives to see me or to my house, if I ask I get the response “dunno” “maybe” “not sure” or “no I don’t want to”. Usually with the reasoning that my room is small or that he doesn’t like how loud my family can be as it seems like they are always shouting. Iv just begun to feel like the relationship is completely one sided. I’m the only one that says “I love you” first im the only one to instigate a hug or any form of affection and I’m the only one to drive so we can see eachother. He hasn’t been to my house since march and that was for 1 night as we went away on holiday as my house is closer to the airport. I’m worried that im TA for feeling fed up with the situation and like he’s not arsed about me. I left his house and messaged him saying ‘when he wants to see me he knows where I am’ because I’m sick of feeling like their is zero effort and like he’s not arsed about seeing me or being with me. He has made me feel unreasonable for feeling low and upset about all this and their is such a lack of affection and I’m trying to bring it up to communicate but it always ends in an argument that’s my fault or I’m told to “shut up” because he doesn’t want to talk about it or hear about it. Writing this I’m even stressed I’m putting the wrong point across and that my point of view is wrong about the situation. I’m just really stuck AITA for not going to see him till he makes an effort AITA for trying to discuss it when he doesn’t want to. Should I be more understanding to his situation I’m also autistic but I think I find things easier than him, I need advice AITA?

2024.05.29 00:44 acollin892 IR-5/Parent AOS: I-130 Approval received today in documents tab. For I-485, "RFE" status was posted and then within minutes switched to "active review." Will the RFE be required or has the case been basically approved and hopefully tomorrow will reflect this, as seen with many cases?
