2024.05.14 18:59 ruimikemau Police denied protest for refusing to take responsibility for "fragile" bicycles in Porto

https://www.msn.com/pt-pt/noticias/ultimas/psp-negou-protesto-por-recusar-responsabilizar-se-pelas-fr%C3%A1geis-bicicletas-no-porto/ar-BB1mkiBC
On Saturday, a demonstration scheduled for Porto to demand the right to public space, attended by around 50 children, young people and adults, was banned because the PSP alleged conflicts with “freedom of movement with other citizens”
The PSP issued a negative opinion to the protest in defense of the Kidical Mass public space, in Porto, on Saturday, as it did not want to take responsibility for the "most fragile" bicycles and their users, including children, according to a response to questions from Lusa.
On Saturday, a demonstration scheduled for Porto to demand the right to public space, attended by around 50 children, young people and adults, was banned because the PSP alleged conflicts with "freedom of movement with other citizens".
In response to Lusa about the reasons for issuing a negative opinion, an official PSP source spoke of a "normal conflict" in the circulation of bicycles with other vehicles, "in which bicycles will, of course, be considerably more fragile", and also took into account "the fact that the participation of children, minors, in this same parade is considered".
"The PSP understood that it was not at all appropriate to issue a positive opinion, because if there was an accident, this PSP would be assuming civil and criminal liability that could not be assumed in circumstances such as the one presented", says an official source in the response to Lusa .
According to a statement from the Porto Municipal Police that Lusa had access to on Saturday, which cites the PSP's negative opinion, the presence of bicycles "conflicts with the freedom of movement of other citizens", could "cause constraints on circulation in the surrounding area and access to hospital units close to the parade route" and "endangering the safety of participants and other public road users".
Lusa questioned to what extent bicycles "conflict with the freedom of movement of other citizens", since they are a means that can circulate on public roads just like any other, in which case their circulation is a different situation from daily traffic which also causes "constraints on circulation" in access to hospitals, including ambulances, and how the demonstration could "endanger the safety of participants and other users of public roads".
In its response, the PSP began by stating that "for technical and security reasons, it never issues a positive opinion on demonstrations with parades with vehicles of any type, only in very exceptional circumstances, such as the presence of a support car".
"If the demonstration was intended only to ensure concentration in a certain place, without a parade, or if the parade did not involve the circulation of bicycles, but only people, the opinion would be positive", he says.
The PSP also claimed that there could be "high circulation" in the city, associated with the Final 4 of the Champions League in roller hockey, at the Pavilhão Rosa Mota. On Saturday, he also mentioned that human resources were deployed to Queima das Fitas and the Rally de Portugal.
Thus, he understood that his procedure "was correct and appropriate for the circumstances presented by the prosecutor".
On Saturday, Duarte Brandão, from MUBi - Associação pela Mobilidade Urbana em Bicicleta, told Lusa that the PSP's opinion "only reinforces the reason" why the demonstration should have been held.
The flags placed behind the bicycle seats and which read "The Street is also ours. Create space for the next generation", were collected and the demonstration was canceled so that families would not incur the crime of disobedience, explained Duarte Brandão.
Some of the participants in the demonstration chose to take a family bike ride through the city of Porto, to Parque da Cidade, but without police security.
The city of Porto was thus partially left out of Kidical Mass, a global movement in defense of the need and desire of children and adults to use active modes in their daily travel (bicycle, walking, rollerblading, skateboarding, etc.), demanding the improvement of cycling infrastructure and the pacification of streets, especially in school areas.

2024.05.14 10:18 Head-Locksmith3765 Suspension upgrade.

Hi all. I am thinking of downgrading from a BMW F800GS to the CRF300L Rally. Am seing a lot of bad suspension reviews.
I weigh 100kg. Will the stock suspension be okay to live with? If not, is it worth upgrading the rear spring and maybe some heavier oil? The cost of buying a complete YSS rear shock is way way to expensive in south africa.
I dont race around fast jumping the bike, i am more of a relaxed exploration rider. The 800 is just not practical for the riding and commuting that I do and think the Rally will be perfect.

2024.05.14 09:05 ThatsVeryRandom Another recommend me a new bike thread. Sorry.

As title says. Please help me out folks. New to dual sports.
I have decent road experience, have a naked bike and a liter sportsbike but the only off road riding I did is taking my yamaha mt07 down gravel and dirt roads to campsites.
Looking for something to learn on but where I live (Wellington, New Zealand) I need to take the highways before any good off road area for an houre two each time.
To make things worse, the used market here is small and new bikes can only be registered with abs and I prefer to buy new or slightly used. I have zero mechanical maintenance skills.
Some bikes I sat on and on my list.
Crf300 rally Ktm390 adv Husqvarna 701 enduro (or ktm/gasgas) Ktm 890 s or r.
The honda might need a suspension upgrade as I am 100ish kg and a bigger engine. That 286cc did not make me smile at all unfortunately.
Any tips? Currently mostly thinking between the 390 and 701.
Thanks

2024.05.14 05:37 Party-Cantaloupe Opinions on guided trips(?) as a retirement gift

In short, my mum is retiring next year. She loves going on road trips and to rally’s(?) with her long-term partnebf. They’ve been on a couple smaller trips across the states (including sturgis) and done a few trips in Australia, but that’s it. Previously she’s mentioned wanting to go for a trip in another country, like eastern Europe or Asia, after she retires, but the cost of getting there, let alone shipping one of her bfs motorcycles there (he’s got one in Aus, and one is USA), makes it not feasible.
Long story short, I’d love to organise something where I fly them out and have bikes rented for a once-in-a-lifetime trip. I think she would really like it, and since Ive never been on best of terms with her partner I figure this would help show my appreciation how much he’s looked after mum.
What I know is that she’s mentioned guided tours being a possibility but I don’t know what country to start at. They seem to prefer cruising on highways than anything too off-road if that makes a diffference.
So, is there a ‘holy grail’ of motorcycle tours/rides in Europe or somewhere else unique that you’d recommend? Is it normal/safe to rent a motorbike that you are not used to? If anyone has done something similar I would love to hear people’s opinions. Thanks!
I know nothing about this hobby tbh, so please be patient!

2024.05.14 00:31 Amos_Dad Best phone mount?

Picked up a Tiger 900 Rally over the weekend and it has almost everything I need. One thing I'd like is a solid phone mount. I've seen a bunch, some universal and some made specifically for the bike. Wondering what everyone else is running. Googling and YouTube has me going down a rabbit hole. Lol

2024.05.13 20:41 DK-IRL Heading north...

Hi folks, I am thinking of heading up north to try and pick up some points for the photo Rally.
Anyone know what the story is with riding up north while wearing an L vest?
I'm still on a provisional so I've been doing the photo Rally by scenic routes, no motorway, not only to comply with the law but also to increase my time in the saddle.
Picked up my bike on the 3rd of May, have already put up 1300kms. Loving it!

2024.05.12 06:50 Annual_Arachnid_4860 looking for a bike suggestion

i (female) am in need for a 2-wheeler and i am trying to convince my parents to get me a bike. but they are stubborn on getting me a scooter instead cause it'll be more "practical". i graduate in 2025 and they think buying a scooter would be better cause in case i move to a diff place where i cannot take my bike with me, the bike would be sitting here at home. but if i got a scooter, it would be of use. plus buying a scooter would be more budget friendly. these are their thoughts.
but since a kid, i've always wanted my first vehicle to be a bike. my parents have always been encouraging of me riding bikes. i learned how to ride a bike by observing my father ride his and taught myself in the lockdown and got my dl.
when my mother took me to tvs showroom for buying scooter, my friend at clg told me about tvs raider but the bike was not available in that showroom. when i took particulars of the bike home, my father said it has less mileage. he has had a bajaj platina for like 18yrs now and he compares its mileage to any bike i suggest.
can you pls give me suggestions of bikes that would fit the following requirements? 1. a bike with mileage around 35-40km or more would be smtg i can convince at home. most scooters also give similar mileage anyways. 2. i love a bike with elevated seat, but atm it is not smtg i am looking for. i am also looking for bike with comfortable pillion rider seat so in case i do end up leaving my bike at home after graduation, my father can use it. 3. i looked up a lot of bikes but my parents did not agree cause of the price. suzuki v-storm sx was smtg i really liked (but again, my parents did not agree for the price). but when i saw xpulse, i knew it was the bike for me. rally bikes have been my dream to own. plus it being a comparatively budget friendly opt, i can convince my parents. 4. i would be using the bike mostly on city roads for now, but i want to take my bike off-road the moment i get any chance. so if there is any bike that is good for city use as well as off-roading, please do suggest. 5. i used to love re himalayan when it first came out, but lately i have lost interest in re. it is just everywhere. they are lovely bikes, but i would prefer smtg on the lighter side.
also, would xpulse 200 4v or any other model be worth it in 2024?
please give me suggestions of bikes that would not only fit the above requirements, but also give me wonderful memories as my first bike

2024.05.12 00:16 donkeyWoof Recommend a new bike computer, radar, cameras

Hello...my Garmin 520 is on its last legs...I am in the market again for a new bike computer. Also, the traffic has gone crazy where I live and so would like a radar and cameras too. I have the SRAM AXS Red electronic gearing and the Garmin Rally power meter pedals.
I have been with Garmin products for many years (decades?) but thought I should get advice about some of the new products since I have not updated my electronics for a long time.
The Garmin Varia seems to be a good product? There's a version with a camera too. What about a front facing camera? What's the best one? On helmet or on handlebars?
Also, anyone tried these? https://engoeyewear.com/products/engo-2
Willing to spend for good products...
Thoughts?

2024.05.11 23:14 Inofixo The bike feels great, but I want to Upgrade Things Like exhaust etc...

The bike feels great, but I want to Upgrade Things Like exhaust etc...
Driving this beauty is giving me a smile. Nut I want to Upgrade it. Actually I want to Upgrade the exhaust first, later on I will be Upgrading to led lights etc. This is my first time doing a exhaust change myself so I have a question.
I bought the following exhaust https://dominator.pl/en_BE/p/Honda-CRF-300L-Rally-2021-2023-Exhaust-Silencer-Muffler-MX2-BLACK-dB-kille3327
Later on, I saw that they also offer the header pipe for it. ofc I did not buy it.
https://dominator.pl/en_BE/p/Honda-CRF-300L-Rally-2021-2023-Head-Pipe-Header-Collecto3325
Would I need that aswell to get a louder Sound or is the first exhaust package enought?
I have an EU version of the bike.
Once the exhaust is changed, am I good to drive for a bit or Do I instantly need an ecu Flash before driving?
Sorry for these newby questions, but I have the urge todo the work myself ☺️

2024.05.10 14:12 Andre3000RPI Yahoo Morning Briefing

Friday, May 10 Good morning! The Dow saw its seventh straight day of gains as the S&P 500 saw the other side of 5,200 for the first time in a month, finishing Thursday up 0.5% at 5,214. Jobless claims rise: Thursday's weekly jobless claims data showed filings spike unexpectedly, adding to the April jobs report's evidence that the labor market is cooling off. With investors hoping this leads to moderating inflation and a 2024 rate hike, investors celebrated, taking the S&P 500 back above 5,200 and turning the one-month chart into a "U" shape. ‌
Sentiment check: The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment numbers mark Friday's lone economic release of note, but the number we're watching closest isn't its key optimism/pessimism metric. Instead, we're focused on where the survey's respondents see inflation in 12 months. Last time out, consumers judged inflation was getting the better of the Fed, as April's reading jumped to 3.2% from March's 2.9%. ‌ Mortgage rates fall: Mortgage rates finally fell for the first time in five weeks. For anyone trying to buy a house, this is cold comfort: The average rate on a 30-year fixed is still well over 7% on average. And for Fannie Mae's revised year-end mortgage forecast of 6.4% to materialize, homebuyers would need to see the Fed cut rates twice. ‌
Broadening rally: Tech may be responsible for the broad shape of the year's stock market rally, but Thursday saw a few lagging sectors take up the mantle. The unloved Real Estate sector got a boost from the falling mortgage rates and the "catch-up" trade our Josh Schafer wrote about yesterday continued to push Utilities higher. Meanwhile, the Technology and Communications Services sectors took their turn lagging the broader index. ‌
"Bumpy" is back: San Francisco Fed president Mary Daly brought back Fed Chair Jay Powell's go-to phrase, noting that "inflation is going to be a bumpy ride." In his last few appearances, Powell had conceded that the mostly unidirectional inflation data this year had shown the Fed's progress stalling. But two labor market reports in a row have shown a contrast to April's streak of hot data. Just in time for next week's all-important April CPI reading. Follow all the action throughout the day on Yahoo Finance and on the Yahoo Finance app. Big banks complete climate analysis for Fed while Powell tries to avoid becoming climate policymaker. ‌ 'A whole generation of hardcore Bud Light shoppers' may be lost. ‌ Real estate brokerages seek final approval of landmark settlements with homebuyers. ‌ Disney, Warner Bros. try to 'follow the consumer' with yet another streaming bundle. ‌ The big battle over whether to snatch Russia’s billions. ‌ Reddit is maturing as a company, CEO says.‌ What marijuana reclassification means for the US cannabis industry. Today's Takeaway is by Julie Hyman, Anchor. ‌ Shares of Roblox plunged yesterday after the gaming platform company gave disappointing bookings guidance. ‌ You’d never know Roblox isn’t doing well in my house. My teenager — and especially my tweenager — bounce around between games like Blox Fruits and Pet Simulator X. My younger son’s birthday presents mostly consisted of a stack of gift cards for Robux (in-game currency), although they might have been evenly split with V-Bucks (for Epic Games-owned Fortnite). ‌ On the other hand, the majority of people reading this are about to google “what is Roblox,” as they do every quarter, before forgetting. (It’s an online gaming platform where users can build and play games.) ‌
Roblox (RBLX) only came public in 2021, and its stock has fallen from a high above $130 a share in November of that year to around $30 now. That’s as its annual sales growth rate has moderated into the mid-twenties percentage range. ‌ It feels like the jury’s still out on whether the Roblox craze ends up being a flash in the pan or a lasting trend. It’s tempting as an investor to buy what you know, as Warren Buffett has famously said. And when it comes to trends that we interact with, see, and judge on a regular basis, we develop opinions. ‌ But what if the trend you know ends up being just a fad? ‌ There are a few high-profile examples as of late. Take Peloton (PTON), that pandemic-era darling that may be going the way of Jazzercise or Tae Bo (Google it, kids). That stock’s collapse makes Roblox’s look like a gentle slide — from a closing high of $162.72 two days before Christmas 2020 to just above $4 now — a slump of 97%.
There’s a good business in there somewhere, as we’ve written in this newsletter, but somewhere the order of magnitude got misunderstood. ‌ Or consider Beyond Meat (BYND), whose shares have fallen by about the same amount since the record it set during the height of grilling season 2019. The plant-based meat maker’s stock tumbled yesterday after it posted its eighth straight quarter of declining year-over-year sales. ‌ Counterbalancing the expensive stationary bike now acting as a clothes hanger, or the glut of faux meat in the grocery freezer, are the initially questionable propositions that ended up becoming integrated into our lives. ‌
The once-ridiculed AirPods. Uber, which faced resistance from taxi drivers and riders alike — not to mention outrage over revelations that it was tracking users after they exited vehicles. Or Airbnb — you want to rent your house out to strangers? ‌ Discerning a fad from a more permanent fixture of our economy looks like a zero-sum game. And with 20/20 hindsight, you can see why stuff worked. Apple forced the adoption by giving its users an ultimatum: Cut the cord or get an Android. Uber used a VC war chest to subsidize its way into adoption, aided by a good idea users liked and actually found useful. Airbnb ended up spurring a new kind of real estate investing for the supply side and a smoother experience than renting a house or apartment for the demand side. ‌ And sure, Peloton can bump along with its core user base. I still buy Beyond Meat burgers on occasion. The companies remain going concerns. But for investors, either the trend hits sustainably or it might as well not hit at all. ‌ So check back with me in a few years to see if Robux is still on the gift list — or if the next generation of kids has sustainably replaced mine playing Adopt Me or one of the other tens of millions of games on the Roblox platform. Why trends are so intoxicating for investors — and dangerous
Weekly unemployment claims hit their highest level in nine months last week, surprising Wall Street and adding to signs that a red-hot labor market to start 2024 may be cooling. ‌ Initial weekly jobless claims hit 233,000 in the week ending May 4, the highest level since August 2023 and well above the 212,000 economists had expected, per Bloomberg data. ‌ But given claims have been low for much of the year, including in recent weeks, economists were hesitant to overreact to one week of data in a historically volatile series of economic data. Chart of the day
"We do not think that this is necessarily a sign of rapidly deteriorating conditions in the labor market," Jefferies US economist Tom Simons, who had been projecting a labor market slowdown at some point this year, wrote in a research note following the report. ‌ He added, "The prints of the previous two weeks were the lowest for initial claims since mid-February, and claims remain locked in an improbably tight range for the last few weeks in the interim. They were bound to break at some point." ‌ Oxford Economics lead US economist Nancy Vanden Houten said that given the surprise uptick, it will be important to follow the data series in the weeks ahead. ‌
"If the higher level of claims persists or if claims rise further, it would be a sign of a further loosening in labor market conditions," Vanden Houten wrote in a note following the release. "However, one week of data doesn't change our call for the Fed to keep interest rates at current levels until September." ‌ — Josh Schafer, Markets Reporter

2024.05.10 02:07 Major_Storage_2182 De-restricting Rally 2023 model

I live in the Netherlands, where motorcycle license laws are weird. I currently have my A2 license, which means I can only ride bikes up to 50hp. My 2023 Tenere Rally is restricted to 50hp, but I don’t know exactly how. I know it’s not just the ECU, because when I bought the bike they gave me some sort of plastic pipes(?). I was wondering if anybody here knows what it would take to de-restrict and if it’s easy to do it myself, as my dealer charges close to €500(!!!) for it.

Let’s work on the positivity again?
The reason I love this community so much is the ability to rally together and the playability of randoms with matchmaking. Whether they’re using a mic or just working together silently.
We rallied together, let’s keep it together and bring some of the positivity back. Solid memes. Banter. Bloopers. We have time to complain about nerfs and buffs later. Let’s get back to the brotherhood of Helldivers and the flowing of Democracy for a bit.
Side note: Need a good paint job idea for my motorcycle helmet. Preferably a white color to match my bike but open to a minimal Yellow design for sure. Helldivers themed obviously. Suggestions welcome. Helmet is a little dusty, been in the garage all winter. I’ll get it cleaned up.

2024.05.09 23:24 zonku New Rider - Mix of road and trails. RE Himalayan? Honda CRF300LS?

Looking to get my first motorcycle in the next year (no rush - still need to do the MSF and get my gear).
I'm hoping to do around town shopping trips/backroad riding as well as some trail riding. Probably nothing crazy offroad, but I would like to be able to keep up with my buddies lifted 4Runner. I'm honestly a bit afraid of riding in traffic and live in SoCal so I will be avoiding the highways as much as possible. I'm also pretty deadset on getting a bike with ABS for the additional safety it provides.
Looking for a low seat height as I've heard being able to flat foot when stopping/peddling through mud helps with confidence. I stand at 5'9".
I don't feel the need to go fast. I had the same mindset when buying a car and love my Subaru BRZ. I like driving slow things fast, etc etc
I don't love the look of dirtbikes/dual sports, but that might end up being the way I go. I much prefer retro-style bikes (like Royal Enfield's lineup) or 80's style (honestly - TW200 looks cool). My main two contenders for bikes are:
Royal Enfield Himalayan (not 450)
My pros:
  • Decent road comforts for the price, but can still do trails pretty well
  • I love the body style and the instrument cluster
  • Cheap (might get a great deal with the new model coming out, used or new)
My cons:
  • Heavy for trail riding at 440 lbs.
  • Not as reliable as Japanese brands
  • Could be better offroad in general
Honda CRF300LS
My pros:
  • Lightweight and agile
  • Shorter seat height compared to regular CRF300L
  • Much prefer the colorway vs standard Honda red
  • Super reliable
  • Will be able to handle trails without a problem
My cons:
  • Don't love the dirtbike look (can I do something about this? Replace the headlight? Move the front fender down?)
  • Probably not very comfortable on roads
  • Several thousand dollars more
  • Not likely to find it used since the LS just came out in 2023
I'm open to any and all suggestions! Also considering KTM 390 (told by buddies that KTM stands for "Keep Throwing Money", though), CRF300 Rally, etc.
Budget: <$8000 Experience: None
Wow that was long.

2024.05.08 15:54 martyrobbinz88 ODR pickup with VGK Fans

It's a brisk January day at the ODR, and me and the boys are chilling and playing some pickup. Enter stage right: three lads sporting VGK jerseys, looking like they just discovered the wonders of gravity, total benders...
They asked if we wanted to play, being the good sports we are we start dropping our sticks to mix up the teams, But oh no, these guys wanted to stick together... alright then.
Fast forward a few minutes, and it's like watching a comedy on ice. We're up 5-0 without breaking a sweat. Feeling generous, we even institute the triple post rule only for us, but these guys looked like fish trying to ride a bike.
The best part: they call a timeout. Yeah, you heard me right. These guys gather around their fearless leader preaching like he's rallying the troops: "Nobody believed in us in 2018 either! This is just like the knights!" I couldn't make this stuff up.
Needless to say, we lost track of the score after that. But let me tell you, watching them flail around for another 20 minutes was worth every second... eventually we were basically letting them shamble past us like a zombie in the thriller music video and one of them managed to hit iron from a foot out without raising the puck. We watched them celebrate like they'd just won game 7 and I half expected one of them to pull out a 3D printed Stanley cup.
