2024.05.14 22:10 Elra45 Private Investigator Needed...

This is a complicated and delicate situation we're in, but suffice it to say we need to find out if an elderly person whose address we know is dead. The property records of Santa Fe county state the individual still owns the property. We've been informed that New Mexico does not require probate, so we cannot use that route to find out. We cannot verify through a death certificate because we have no way of knowing the date of death (if it has occurred). We were given the name of Martin Investigations by an attorney in Albuquerque but have not initiated any action yet. The person is in Edgewood, so it would probably entail having someone go there ($$$). As I said, it is a complicated situation. Especially since we do not live in NM and the relatives of this person (whom we know) do not want any contact. We'd appreciate any insight on the Martin company or any other investigative organization that might be near to or in Edgewood. Thank you!

2024.05.14 22:07 Altruistic_Engine818 Fleshing out Other unseen NCR Settlements

I thought it would be a fun idea to write out my headcanons for the other, unmentioned settlements/cities in the New California Republic. As a SoCal native, I thought it would also be fun seeing how some notable cities in the region would look in the fallout universe. I’ve only included places in Southern California because I honestly don’t have too much detailed knowledge about central/northern CA cities.
I tried fitting it in with the lore at the time of New Vegas in 2281, but there might be a few mistakes here and there.
San Diego Area
Camp Pendleton: Controlled by one of the largest Raider groups of SoCal, cutting off entry to the San Diego area from the 5 Freeway. Uses restored Vertiberds, Power Armor, and APCs left over by the Marines after the war. Because of this, they are an extremely valuable target for the Brotherhood of Steel, though they have not launched a full-scale attack due to fears of high casualties. This, along with manpower shortages in the region due to the the situation in the Mojave, has prevented the NCR from conducting operations as well. Many in the San Diego area have discussed creating a temporary alliance between Settlers/NCR, the BOS, and the Temecula Super Mutants, though the feasibility of that seems a bit low.
Escondido: Settlement located along the former 15 freeway and acts as a trade settlement on the way to San Diego. Population: 400. Facing raider attacks from nearby Camp Pendleton and feeling like they’ve been failed by the NCR, some local leaders have considered asking the Temecula Super Mutants to assist in a joint assault on the camp. Population: 500.
San Diego: Though one of the founding states of the New California Republic, San Diego, now known as Dayglow, is severely underfunded and underdefended compared to other States. Some say this is because of its distance from the capital, others says its because of continued discriminiation towards Ghouls and Super Mutants who helped found the settlement. Despite this, it still operates as a thriving scrap hub and exports many of the materials used by NCR soldiers, vehicles, and machinery. Many smaller settlements still exist in areas farther from downtown, the most major of which include El Cajon, Chula Vista, and Miramar. The latter is the main NCR facility in the area, and has been requesting additional support from Shady Sands to help defeat the Camp Pendleton Raiders. Though having the threat of Raiders in the northwest as well as threats of increased radiation exposure from the Glow in the northeast, many of these settlements are some of the most advanced in the NCR due to the pre-war governance and technology maintained by the descendants of Vault 72. Located near Balboa Park, Vault 72 is the only known vault in the area. Though initially an experiment vault, like Vault 81 in the Commonwealth, its operations were cut short, in this case after a mutiny against the scientists and Overseer by the inhabitants, many of whom were Ex-military due to the Vault’s close distance to the San Diego Navy Yards. For the next century and a half, Vault 72 acted as a control vault. Eventually, its systems started to fail, and many of its inhabitants exited the vault in search of new settlements, bringing the technology and infrastructure found in the vaults with them. As the New California Republic expands, there have been rumors among NCR soldiers about restoring some of the abandoned Navy ships in the former San Diego harbor, though nothing has been completely confirmed. The Brotherhood of Steel also seeks to acquire former military technology in the area, but has been unable to do so.
Inland Empire
Riverside: Home to “Rubidoux,” a mid-sized NCR town with a population of about 1,000. Located on the base of Mt. Rubidoux. The Mission Inn, located in the former downtown, is now utilized as an NCR armory and base. Possible plans to rebuild more of downtown have been discussed by local leaders, but not implemented. Vault 54 is located near Rubidoux on the base of Box Springs Mountain. It is a rare control vault with around 800 living citizens, and has been frequently trading with the nearby Rubidoux settlement since its opening in around 2245.
San Bernardino: Took the most nuclear strikes out of all cities in SoCal’s Inland Empire during the Great War. Due to this, Feral Ghoul encounters are common in the area, though their population has been dwindling in recent years due to Rubidoux settlers and NCR forces slowly clearing up the area, mainly to help caravans from the area safely travel the 215 freeway to reach high desert settlements.
Temecula: Reclaimed by former Master Super Mutants into a small settlement, population of 50. Do not mind caravans using the former 15 freeway that goes through the city to reach the San Diego area.
Hemet: Thriving farm town. Decently isolated from the SoCal sprawl, Hemet is relatively sleepy and peaceful. Supplies a decent amount of crops to the IE region. Nothing really interesting about it besides that. Population: 300.
Desert Regions
Idyllwild: Used as a training ground for NCR soldiers due to its isolation in the mountains.
Palm Springs: Run by the remnants of the Agua-Caliente, Cabazon, and Morongo Native American Tribes. Due to its strategic prominence, being south of the Mojave and west of Arizona, as well as its proximity to the Idyllwild training grounds and routes to Shady Sands, it has become popular with many NCR higher-ups, many of whom own second homes in the town. Population: 1,000. Vault 93: Located in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains. Experimental vault studying the effects of celebrity influence. A dozen celebrities were selected among the 900 civilians who entered the vault, where factions aligning with each of them divided up the leadership inside. No holotapes have been found showing what happened next, though it is to assume that whatever played out led to Vault 93 being opened and vacated. Though considered by the NCR to be repurposed, it sits abandoned, now silently overlooking the Sonoran wastes.
Orange County
Huntington Beach: Inhabited by the descendants of the Children of the Cathedral, who founded a settlement in what was Huntington Beach after the destruction of the Cathedral in Long Beach and the end of the Unity project in 2162. Though they tend to keep to themselves, there are still some devout Unity believers who kidnap caravans travelling along the former 405 freeway in order to adopt them into the cult and keep the population afloat (They don’t have any FEV to make Super Mutants). Population: 100.
Irvine: Largely an NCR base centered around the former John Wayne Airport, though there are a decent amount of civilians who have set up shop to cater to the large soldier population. The 452nd Battalion is stationed at the airport, though their numbers have dwindled due to transfers to the Mojave. This has made them unable to respond to the Camp Pendleton Raiders. Population (including soldiers): 2,000.
San Clemente: A “Ghoul only” settlement ran by wealthy pre-war Ghouls who maintain the area. Despite the exclusivity, it has maintained a population of over 1,000 mainly by bringing in other Ghouls from Orange County and the surrounding area. Mainly keeps to themselves though they accept caravans for trade, though less have been showing up due to the threat of the Camp Pendelton Raiders.

2024.05.14 22:05 Subject_Media_682 The Day After

**Introduction**
In 2024, the world teetered on the brink of all-out global warfare as numerous active combat zones threatened to escalate into catastrophic conflicts. One such hotspot was Ukraine, where the Russian winter offensive inflicted devastating casualties on both sides. Faced with dwindling options, President Vladimir Putin made a fateful decision that would alter the course of history: the deployment of a tactical nuclear warhead on the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. This act was intended to deal a crippling blow to the Ukrainian government and serve as a stark warning to NATO, signaling Russia's willingness to employ nuclear weapons in defense against perceived Western aggression. As the countdown to impact began, Officer Blake Collins, a US Special Forces commander stationed in Kiev, received a chilling call from the Office of President Joe Biden, informing him of the inbound nuclear missile and advising him to seek shelter, bracing for the inevitable blast.
**Part 1**
The detonation was nothing short of cataclysmic. As the nuclear bomb engulfed the heart of Kiev, millions perished instantaneously in a maelstrom of destruction. In response to the attack, the United States declared war on the Russian Federation, retaliating with a tactical nuclear strike on Leningrad. This exchange of nuclear blows marked the point of no return, as Putin ordered a full-scale first strike against NATO, launching over 1200 nuclear weapons at more than 500 targets, predominantly major cities. The USA countered with over 1000 nuclear missiles aimed squarely at Russian territory. Within a mere 24 hours, the world as it was known ceased to exist.
**Two weeks after the blast...**
Commander Blake Collins reflects on the harrowing moment of the explosion, narrowly escaping the devastation of Kiev. Fleeing towards France amidst the desolation, he bore witness to the widespread ruin that now plagued the world. Amidst the chaos, he sought to establish a semblance of order, setting up a base in Paris and extending a helping hand to fellow survivors. With a small farm, access to clean water, and shelter for a few souls, hope flickered amidst the darkness.
**Three weeks after the blast...**
Encountering Rose, a former nurse, during a scavenging excursion, Blake extends an invitation to join his fledgling community. Her medical expertise proves invaluable as she tends to his wounds, sustained in a confrontation with an assailant. Meanwhile, Revere, another survivor with technical proficiency, joins their ranks, enhancing their base's infrastructure and capabilities.
**Part 2**
**Three months after the blast...**
Amidst burgeoning hope, the community expands under Blake and Rose's guidance. With Revere's expertise, they fortify their base and establish essential systems for survival. Dubbed "New Hope," their settlement symbolizes a beacon of resilience in a ravaged world. As their numbers swell, they institute a governing council, with Rose as president, Blake as Head of Security, and Revere as Head of Infrastructure.
**Four months after the blast...**
New Hope faces its first trial by fire as raiders descend upon them under cover of darkness. Despite sustaining losses, including Blake's trusted lieutenant, Rudy, the community repels the attackers, vowing to fortify their defenses against future assaults. Amidst the tragedy, hope perseveres, albeit tinged with the harsh reality of their new existence.
**Six months after the blast...**
Reflecting on six months of rebuilding, Blake takes pride in New Hope's progress. With fifty residents, essential services, and even a sense of normalcy, their once-fledgling settlement now resembles a thriving township. However, the specter of danger looms large, prompting Blake to lead raids against marauding gangs in defense of their newfound home. Amidst the turmoil, a ray of light shines as Blake and Rose anticipate the arrival of their first child.
**Twelve months after the blast...**
Surveying the burgeoning fields and bustling community of New Hope, Blake reflects on his journey from devastation to triumph. His dream of rebuilding amidst the ruins has become a reality, a testament to human resilience and determination. As he signs off, Commander Blake Collins leaves behind a legacy of hope amidst the ashes of a shattered world.

2024.05.14 22:02 feralcatshit Is it time for our routine/random (iykyk) 'biggest adhd tax post? Let's spin it with childhood adhd tax fuck-ups!

First, feel free to share anything you want to and are comfortable with! This is intended to be a light-hearted, look back and think 'yep.. there it was' kind of post. I can look back and laugh now at a lot of things that really hurt me for a long time, but if you need to skip this one to avoid processing trauma or such, no hard feelings meant on my end! Love ya and see you on the next post.
  1. When I was 2.5 (in the very late 80's, so times were a little different lol), my mother left me in the car to go from the driveway to the front door and hand my dad the mail. I quickly unbuckled and crawled to the front seat and somehow shifted my parents Cadillac (it was brand new and a HUGE deal as my parents were just middle class) and drove it. Into the front of our house.
It's a tax for my parents financially, for sure. My mother said I had never unbuckled, crawled to the front through the middle or sat in the drivers seat even pretending to drive before that incident. It was absolutely out of character and she swears it was only long enough to exchange mail and have a few words with my dad at the door, literally less than 2 minutes (I believe her). I watched her drive so closely and mesmerizingly that I just decided I was going to that day, Props to my parents as they never once made me feel bad about it and I even have fond memories of us laughing when someone would make a joke about me driving for a long time afterwards lol.
  1. Went to the pop-up Titanic museum back in the late 90's, got a piece of coal supposedly from the Titanic in a pyramid shaped glass (resin? Can't remember honestly) from there. It was, as you can imagine in a tourist museum, very expensive, but my parents got it for me anyway. I cherished it and kept it in a "treasure box" with a lock for years... until I disobeyed my mother and took it for show & tell at school.. and who the hell knows what happened to it that day. I haven't had it since.
  2. I was gifted $500 for gas money as a teenager, intended to last me through college practically. I accidentally threw it away later that night.
  3. My stepfathers boss let me ride his golf cart thing one day while I was visiting. I got in, quickly and took the fuck off before the boss could get in with me. It knocked him down. I panicked and completely went deaf/disassociated/OOHFUCK'ed and didn't listen to everyone screaming at me to "just stop gassing it". I did no such thing and drove myself right into a semi trailer. My parents opened their own business after that and while I don't think it was the only factor, my heart tells me this incident played a role in it but my mom would *never* admit that, even now, I don't think. I should ask her.
  4. I totalled my car on my 18th birthday, I say it was a tax because I wasn't paying close enough attention to the road and going a little too fast around a curve. Rolled and slid on the hood about 100 yards into the edge of the woods. I am literally lucky to be alive after this, a tree took out my headrest from the side, it literally barely missed my head. We were both unscathed.. somehow. All because I was too busy talking and flirting with my boyfriend, trying to be cool driving to the lake on my birthday with the music blasting and windows down. Now I am an incredibly aware drive and I try to be extremely cautious these days. because of these events. I don't drive any more than I have to, either.
  5. Lost my passport. It could be in the Bahamas, it could be in my bedroom, it could be in a landfill, it could be in someone's wallet who's impersonating me... fuck if I know.
There's tons more but those were the incidents that bothered me a lot as a child/teen/early adult. I carried a lot of shame because of those things. I was a very, very "no way she has adhd, it's the 90's" kind of girl, it never crossed anyones mind. Only bc I was compensating excessively, which led to burnout. I was always super, chronically early, overly cautious, great grades, no late assignments EVER, etc. but I was slowly deteriorating inside at the tender of 9. I wasn't properly dx until 31-32, after running through the laundry list of wrong dx. If we had today's knowledge 30 years ago, it would have definitely been caught. I'm glad girls have more opportunities to address it earlier in life, rather than later now. Much love <3

2024.05.14 22:02 OrchidOwn4582 Legal advice about child support

Long story short, child was born in 2012, mother was sleeping with 3 guys total at the time. She swore said child is mine. Well fast forward, child is born, mother lies and tells me she put me on the birth certificate, found out at a doctors appointment for child that that was a lie. I was in fact not on the birth certificate and that my child's legal name wasn't even what me and her agreed upon. So this caused a huge fight. And we broke up. She then takes the child and moves and hides. Refusing to let me see them. Couldn't even file for parentity because I had no idea where they where. Right after the split. I begged her to take me to court and establish paternity. She made sure to tell me it would be over her cold dead body before I ever got to see the child again. Mother has never worked or has never had a drivers license. About 2 months after the break up. Her and her entire family blocked me and my entire family off all social media. They all changed their phone number and none of us knew where they lived. So for the last 11 years. I've had zero contact. Though they had every opportunity to reach out. As my mother has never moved. She could of messaged on social media. Or even mailed a letter to my mom's house, where I used to live. But nothing. I still have messages where I had begged her to let me see them, to take me to court, to do a dna test, and everything. I got over 20 people willing to testify on my behalf about how I talked to several lawyers, her treatment, and even her own aunt who they have had no contact with, who will testify about how they up and moved with out notifing anyone. So up Until 7 days ago I had no idea where they even was until I got a cerified letter in the mail from 3 states away with legal papers for child support. My concern is, can she request back child support for those 11 years, can I somehow establish some kind of visitations/custody(I know it want be a instant thing and that it may be a slow process for them to get to know me, but i would like to finally get to know my child).

2024.05.14 22:00 nehadixit7 Deteriorated Relationship Between Half Siblings

This is me venting but am also curious to know what everyone's relationship is like with half-siblings. Here's my story. I'm sorry in advance for how long this is, along with the grammarun-ons. I'm trying to give the Reddit community as much context as I can dating as far back as my memory takes me.
I (F 28) have two younger biological sisters (identical twins, F 25). The three of us were born after my dad married my mom (arranged marriage) after he and his first wife got divorced.
I believe my dad's first marriage lasted about 10 years. They had two kids together (my half-siblings). My older brother and I have an 8-year age difference, and my older sister and I have a 10-year age difference. Growing up, they used to visit us a few times a year including summer break or alternating holidays. Sometimes they would visit during Thanksgiving, other times during Christmas.
We used to be pretty close (at least I thought), but the relationship has become increasingly strained through the years. I understand the fact that there are ALWAYS two sides to every story, but I believe that my dad was on the right side of things and the marriage ended because two people weren't compatible and got married too young. It's always unfortunate when there are kids involved, and I'm sure it was tough with my older siblings being impacted at a young age.
It started when our grandpa (my dad's dad) passed away in November 2015. My brother suddenly stopped talking to my dad/our family immediately for whatever reason. He was the only person that didn't come to my grandpa's funeral. I honestly think he was holding a grudge that he didn't find out immediately when my grandpa passed, but I can't be too sure. We've never addressed that directly.
Fast forward 8 months to July 2016, when my dad's side of the family had a reunion at a first cousin's wedding. The vibes from my brother were like nothing had happened, and then after the wedding weekend, he was back to being silent. When my grandma (dad's mom) passed away in June 2019 he didn't show up to the funeral then either. Granted I didn't, but not because I didn't want to. I was a poor grad student and couldn't afford an $800 ticket on short notice and didn't want to burden my parents to pay for me to fly back for a couple of days either on top of how busy they were with funeral arrangements.
My brother went about 5 years to not talk to my dad or any of us. Then, out of nowhere, he calls one day to announce that he's getting married. The wedding is set for October 2022. I think he was buttering up my dad and our family to come to the wedding, because he knew it would look bad if everyone asked where his dad was for his wedding, and it would reflect poorly on him. The communication in 2022 was pretty consistent leading up to the wedding, and my older siblings would call my dad almost every weekend knowing that they needed us to show up to the wedding.
My older sister (F 38) had a baby girl in July 2018. Our dad was thrilled, his oldest daughter made him a grandpa. But there is clear separation and favoritism there, as my niece only sees her mom's side of the family being in the same area in the DMV. For those who aren't familiar with DC/MD/VA, my older sister lives in Virginia, in Arlington, and her mom lives in Herndon. About a 30-minute drive from each other. My parents live across the country in Orange County, so visits are far and few in between for my dad and his grandchild. I live on the Maryland side, and the state line between Maryland and Virginia is roughly 30 min, depending on where you go and the time of day. Anyway, I don't even know if my niece knows that she has another grandpa, outside of what she knows about my sister's mom and stepdad, and my brother-in-law's parents, who split time between the US and Nepal. I feel so bad for my dad because that's his grandkid too and everyone deserves the joy of being involved in their grandkids lives. My dad has seen my niece several times but the relationship is pretty surface level. It's not her fault, she doesn't know him like she does my sister's mom and stepdad, plus it's a proximity thing living on opposite sides of the country. We have FaceTime for these reasons though.
My husband and I aren't ready to have kids yet, and we want them. We've only been married for almost 7 months so we're still trying to live life before we settle down. I hope nothing more than to be able to give my parents a grandkid one day because I want my dad and mom to experience what they missed from my older half-siblings isolating them from their kids. That is if I'm able to have kids, I know we can't control these things.
This brings me to my next point (if you're still reading this, I appreciate you). My husband and I got married in October 2023. Our parents on both sides did everything they could to give us the wedding of our dreams, and it was everything we imagined and hoped for, and I'm forever grateful for that. I know that my wedding hit my dad harder emotionally than the first two with my older siblings because he was not at all involved during theirs. That wasn't by choice, my older siblings' mom probably didn't want him to be involved. Divorced dynamics are so confusing. You're telling me you can't come together and be civilized for a day/weekend? After my wedding, a few months later, sometime in January or February 2024, my dad called me to talk about how my sister was upset after our wedding and she vented about a few things with him on the phone. He was relaying the message over.
For context, I uploaded our wedding pictures on Facebook, because I have so many family members overseas in Nepal who weren't able to attend the wedding, and it was honestly the most convenient way to showcase our pictures since people in Nepal are ridiculously active on Facebook. My sister has social media, my brother got rid of his TwitteFacebook/Instagram/everything many years ago. Our photographer took several thousand pictures throughout the wedding weekend events, and of course, there were moments captured of my older sister and her family, including my brother-in-law, and niece. I will admit out of spite since my sister never posts anything about me and my dad/family, I tagged but then later on deleted those pictures she was in. Why would I have pictures of her on my social media when she's never posted anything of us? She doesn't even like or comment on anything on my social media, and when you have siblings, this is not something you discuss, you just do it. Duh. Over the last few days, I unfollowed her and unfriended her on Facebook and Instagram. For me, it makes no sense to keep people on my newsfeed if I don't interact with them, and I have plenty of family members and friends that I already have a strongemore communicative relationship with.
If my sister was upset about this, why did she call my dad to vent about this months later instead of coming to me? My dad told me she complained that he didn't mention her or my older brother during his speech at our wedding. But am I wrong for thinking, why would he? It's a celebration for me and my husband. I thought that was very conceited and selfish. The day wasn't about her, and my dad's speech was so heartfelt that I cried. I believe she was offended she didn't get the same during hers. However, my sister and brother never asked our dad to give a toast at their weddings. Only their mom did, which is messed up in my opinion.
I understand divorce is messy and complicated, and people go through years of therapy to fix, or maybe even never fix issues completely. It's hard, and I'm just a product of his second marriage. But I've never understood the jealousy that seems to exist, specifically between my older sister and me.
I tried reaching out to both of them in a group iMessage, talking about how I am not happy with the way they're treating our dad. My brother has stopped calling my dad completely over the last few months since his son (my dad's second grandkid) was born a few months ago in February. My sister calls maybe once a month. I wanted to confront them about this ongoing behavior and ill will toward our family. They didn't even have the guts to respond to me, I suggested if they have time to FaceTime so we can have a real adult conversation about what is their issue. My parents are flying to DC this weekend and the original plan was to drive a few hours north so they could see my brother's baby. No communication with my brother whatsoever to coordinate. I feel devastatingly sad for my dad.
I'm not even going to get into their treatment of my mom. That's another long story, but basically, it's them not giving a hoot about her, even though she's the one who took care of them and stepped up when they visited growing up. As a stepmom, it's hard to deal with kids from a previous marriage. But she did it and she loves them, and they're nothing but passive-aggressive and mean to her. They never wish her happy birthday, happy Mother's Day, or my parents happy anniversary. It takes two seconds. For me, if you disrespect my parents, you're disrespecting me.
Since then, my sister has unfollowed and unfriended everyone on social media, including my dad, my younger sisters, and my husband. All because she couldn't handle that I did that to her. I'm just not for this nasty behavior, and I know we all need to unpack a lot in therapy (me and my older siblings specifically). Their behavior is cowardly, and I can't be the only one that thinks this, right? I don't know. It didn't have to be like this. I'm sure their mom has been telling them bad things about the marriage and my dad for years. I'm not saying he probably didn't make mistakes, but there are, once again, two sides to everyone's story. None of us kids have heard both sides directly from the source, and probably never will. It makes me sad, especially for my dad. I know life will go on. I tried to reach out, and if they don't want to talk about these issues like adults, then I have nothing else to say.

If Destiny is a Gnome, where is his treasure??? [Effort Post]
Brothers,
Destiny IS a gnome. Gnomes have treasure. Where is his, and, most importantly, how can we get it?
I have recently come into possession, via my contacts in Budapest, of an ancient tome from the 16th century: Ex Libro de Nymphis, Sylvanis, Pygmaeis, Salamandris et Gigantibus, etc by the great Paracelsus. In his writings, Paracelsus describes the nature of the those creatures that lay "outside the cognizance of the light of nature" - a category under which the "mountain people" or the "Gnomi" fall.
Hidden at the end of the book, this passage caught my eye:
... gnomes, pygmies and mami guard the treasures of the earth, the metals and similar treasures. Where they are, there are tremendous treasures, in tremendous quantities. They are guarded by such people, are kept hidden and secret so that they may not be found until the time for it has come.
Paracelsus, Tractatus VI, 1541
IF Destiny is a gnome, then he must be guarding a tremendous quantity of tremendous treasure.
In this post I shall shed some light on Destiny's nature and reveal the first clues as to where his treasure lies.
🚨 FOR DOUBTERS ONLY 🚨
Some of you, virgins all, may be skeptical of the central claim that Destiny is a gnome. Perhaps Professor Hasan's esteemed judgement is simply not good enough for you. But check out what Paracelsus has to say:
Nobody should wonder that there are such creatures. For God is miraculous in his works which he often lets appear miraculously. For these things are not daily before our eyes but very rarely; and we see them only in order that we may know of their existence, for they exist, and yet appear to us as in a dream. The great wisdom of God cannot be fathomed, nor can his great miraculous works be fathomed, not more than is needed to recognize our creator in his miraculous deeds.
Paracelsus. Caput Secundum, Spiritus Quid Et Anima, Item Spiritus Horum Caro Est Et Caro Spiritus; Exemplum Ressurectionis
Do you honestly believe you can fathom the "great miraculous works" of God? Yeah, I didn't think so.
How do I know we can trust Paracelsus? Because he was the biggest turbo-nerd ever when it came to gnomes.
There is more bliss in describing the origin of the giants than in describing court etiquettes. There is more bliss in describing Melusine than in describing cavalry and artillery. There is more bliss in describing the mountain people underground than in describing fencing and service to ladies.
Paracelsus
I rest my case.
While you were taking to ladies, Paracelsus was describing gnomes.
What is Destiny and what are his abilities?
Before we dive into where we can find Destiny's treasures, it is crucial to first understand what he is, his abilities and his potential motivations.
Paracelsus tells us that gnomes are neither spirit or man, but instead a mixture of both. This is because, like the beasts of the earth, gnomes do not have souls and yet still have many of the qualities of man. He goes on to state "they (gnomes) are to man like a monkey ... resembling man most in gestures and actions" noting that "Christ died and was born for those who have a soul." This clearly places gnomes as lesser than man in the eyes of God.
Characteristics
Despite the lack of soul, it is clear that Paracelsus is of the opinion that gnomes can be deceptively human-like, consider the following observations he makes of their people and character and I include supporting evidence of his gnomic nature:
  1. "Their customs and behaviour are human, as is their way of talking, with all virtues, better and coarser, more subtile and rougher."
  • Destiny can often appear very similar to a human in his mannerisms and customs. His speech is modern, if slightly accelerated, and he, at times, appears socially competent.
  1. "About their clothing: they are clothed and cover their genitalia, but not in the way of our world, in their own way."
  • We have long understood that Destiny does not dress in the "way of our world." His own peculiar fashion must be more commonplace beneath the mountain than on the beaches of Miami.
  1. "Let us philosophize further, about their food ... with the gnomi, whose soil is water, and whose chaos is terra, and the heaven is their sphaera, that is, the earth stands in water. To them the earth is chaos and the water the soil. Food grows to them in such a way."
  • This goes a long way to explaining Destiny's food takes. For him, food grown in the land makes as much sense as suggesting that we farm the sky! As one who was raised on water-sewn crops the flavours of our world must dazzle his tastebuds and bamboozle his brain. I believe his particular tastes simply reflect those that he is familiar with when deep under the mountains.
  1. "Water quenches our thirst, but not that of the gnomi ... another water must have been created for them, that we cannot see nor explore. Drink they must, but drink that which in their world is a drink."
  • Finally, the mystery of the Redbull cans is exposed - he uses these to mask the fact that we cannot see the water of the gnomi.
  1. "About their figures, know that they are different. The mountain people are small, of about two spans."
  • Need I say more?
Abilities
Paracelsus identifies the following abilities in gnomes:
  1. "they (gnomes) walk through solid walls, through rocks and stones" and "as it is easy for us to walk through air and air cannot stop us, so rocks and cliffs are easy to them."
  • Destiny has been extremely careful with this ability on stream, however, I have it on good authority from someone close to him that they have personally witnessed Destiny walk through a wall as though it simply did not exist! I trust this source implicitly.
- Any who have spent time personally inside Destiny's walls will be well aware of the awkward encounters as he passes through us.
  1. "They also know all future affairs, present affairs and the past."
  • Ever seen Destiny "react" to a video and declare, moments before it occurs, the outcome of an action or event? Ever joked about him "pre-watching" a video? Not funny anymore, is it?
  1. "they have reason in common with man", "They have knowledge and intelligence of the spirit" and "Thus they are highly gifted, and they know and warn, so that man may learn about such things."
  • This element is fairly self-evident. We all enjoy Destiny because of his ability to reason and to present that reasoning in such a way that we too can understand and learn. Crafty little gnome.
What are Destiny's motivations?
There is one overriding motivation for all creatures who lack a soul: to acquire one. Luckily for spirits, the acquisition of a soul is not a complex process as God explicitly laid down the rules for gain union with Himself through us. Simply put, a gnome can gain a soul by entering into marriage with a human.
From this it follows that they woo man, and that they seek him assiduously and in secret. A heathen begs for baptism and woos it in order to acquire his soul and to become alive in Christ. In the same way, they seek love with man, so as to be in union with men. With them all intelligence and wisdom are outside the qualities of the soul, and not the soul. And so they receive the soul, and their children also, by virtue of Adam’s fruit, freedom and power, which holds and carries them to God.
Paracelsus, Liber Incipit Theophrasti, Tractatus I, Caput I
Destiny is trying to bang his way into a soul.
Across these three categories, I have proven beyond any doubt that Destiny meets the criteria of a gnome. If he is a gnome, then where is his treasure?

WHERE IS HIS GNOME TREASURE???

I hate it break it to you, but: I don't know.
That's why I'm here with you degenerates and not on a private yacht in the Caribbean. I have some clues, but I need your help to put them together and narrow down the search. In return I promise you a percentage of the treasure proportionate to the aid you lent. Trust me, bro.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "If Destiny is a gnome, and therefore knows the future, why would he stand by and let us steal his precious treasure?" This is why you failed out of day care. The first quote I gave you said "[The treasures] are kept hidden and secret so that they may not be found until the time for it has come." Well guess what, it's time has come and Destiny can legally no longer hide it from us.
Here's what I know so far:
  • Paracelsus tells us that, being able to pass through earth and stone, gnomes typically make their homes in caves and mountains, or indeed in structures directly embedded into the earth or rock itself. If there treasure is anywhere, it's buried.
  • 3000 years ago, the ancient Greek philosopher Thales invented a system of cartography called "Gnomonic Projection." That name isn't a coincidence. Thales was trying to tell us something. What that was wouldn't be discovered until 2000 years later by the Ottoman admiral Piri Reis, creator of the Piri Reis map - the most famous Gnomonic Projection map in the world.
The Piri Reis Gnomonic Projection Map
This is it lads. Somewhere in this map is the final piece of the puzzle. The proverbial 'X' that marks the spot.
Let's get that bag.

Ensuring Senior Loved Ones' Road Safety With GPS Tracking

GPS tracking systems have become a powerful tool in promoting road safety. No matter your opinion on monitoring technology, it's hard to deny its impact on keeping roads safer. Companies use car tracking systems to manage employee driving activity, while parents use them as a discreet method to monitor teen driving and prevent speeding. For concerned family members, these systems offer a way to check on senior relatives and ensure they're still able to drive safely.
Although you might associate tracking devices for seniors with portable personal systems for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, car tracking is actually quite common. Here are some reasons why families use GPS to keep an eye on seniors and make sure they're safe on the road:
  • Track visits to doctors' offices, nursing homes, and independent living facilities.
  • Observe driving abilities and watch for warning signs that it's time to reconsider driving privileges.
  • Quickly locate seniors in case of an emergency medical situation requiring assistance.
  • Ensure your loved one is safe behind the wheel.
  • Allow multiple family members to check a senior's location with a free mobile app.
When a senior refuses to stop driving, the responsibility falls on the family to oversee their ability to drive safely. Health conditions, such as Alzheimer's, and other factors can influence an elderly person's driving capabilities. Retaining driving privileges is crucial for seniors who wish to avoid full-time in-home care and maintain their independence. GPS vehicle trackers provide the data needed to identify unsafe senior drivers and determine when it's time for the family to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles.

2024.05.14 21:55 valenter 6th "The First" EUC clear party disqualified with no bans handed out and 8 re-entry tickets issued

Hi, I'm a member of the 8th (announced in game as 6th) team that cleared Thaemine The First for Top 10.
Today my team and I got disqualified, but here's the catch, not a single member on the party received a ban nor has their gold been modified, and no one received a warning of any sort on their accounts, we've also all been cleared by AGS themselves and received in game mail stating that our accounts are in good standing and have not been actioned against.
Here's proof:
https://imgur.com/a/5dkkHiy
https://i.ibb.co/wrT7NSM/Clear-proof.png
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjD4PW_1cbU
I know there have been plenty of teams claiming they've been unjustly disqualified, but as far as I know this is the first instance of a team with no bans being barred from the leaderboard. It's probably useless for me to claim on behalf of the team members that none of us have ever engaged in RMT, but that's the truth as far as I'm concerned.
Contacting support has been pointless, as we've only received auto-responses from bots, so I'm making this post to garner some visibility and possibly shed some light on the situation.

2024.05.14 21:53 eyesdefinedlondon The Bright Side of Cataract Surgery “Shedding Light on Visual Restoration”

The Bright Side of Cataract Surgery “Shedding Light on Visual Restoration”

https://preview.redd.it/uwgzz7hr5g0d1.jpg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=36770d4669742a477bd0908574d67869c8453112
Cataract surgery, among the most prevalent surgeries globally, has undergone remarkable advancements. Its primary objective remains to restore vision impaired by the clouding of the eye's natural lens, termed cataract. This discussion delves into the evolutionary journey of cataract surgery techniques, spotlighting pivotal advancements and their profound influence on surgical outcomes. From traditional methods to modern innovations, the narrative traverses through the rich tapestry of developments shaping the landscape of ocular surgery, elucidating its transformative impact.

Early Methods to Modern Techniques

Historically, cataract surgery commenced with a primitive method called 'couching', which involved displacing the cataractous lens and pushing it to the rear of the eye. However, this technique frequently led to complications and yielded subpar vision after surgery. The evolution of contemporary cataract surgery was catalyzed by the advent of the intraocular lens (IOL) in 1949, pioneered by Sir Harold Ridley. This breakthrough transformed ophthalmology by enabling the replacement of the cataractous lens with a synthetic alternative, marking a significant advancement in the field.

Phacoemulsification: A Technological Leap

The introduction of phacoemulsification in the late 1960s by Charles Kelman marked a revolutionary advancement in cataract surgery. This technique utilizes an ultrasonic handpiece to emulsify the cataractous lens, which is then delicately aspirated from the eye. Over the decades, phacoemulsification has undergone numerous refinements, solidifying its status as the gold standard for cataract extraction. Its unparalleled safety and efficacy, coupled with minimal invasiveness, enable faster recovery times and superior visual outcomes, making it indispensable in modern ophthalmic practice.

Minimally Invasive Approaches

Further advancements in ophthalmic surgery have revolutionized techniques, resulting in the development of smaller incision sizes essential for surgical procedures. Innovations like micro-incision cataract surgery (MICS) and femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) have significantly impacted the field. MICS permits cataract extraction through a tiny incision as minuscule as 1.8 mm, mitigating astigmatism risks and expediting recovery periods. Conversely, FLACS employs laser technology to execute various procedural steps with unparalleled precision and reproducibility, marking a significant leap forward in surgical efficacy.

Enhancements in Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)

Innovations in intraocular lens (IOL) technology have revolutionized cataract surgery outcomes. Initially, IOLs were rigid, necessitating larger incisions. However, contemporary IOLs are foldable, facilitating insertion through micro-incisions, leading to quicker recovery times and reduced risk of complications. Moreover, multifocal and toric IOLs have emerged, catering to individual needs by addressing presbyopia and astigmatism concurrently. These advancements have not only enhanced visual outcomes but also minimized the reliance on corrective eyewear following surgery, significantly improving patients' quality of life.

Vision Restoration in Complex Cases

Advancements in cataract surgery have revolutionized treatment options for patients with pre-existing conditions like astigmatism or prior refractive surgeries. Through the utilization of customized intraocular lenses (IOLs) and meticulous pre-operative assessments, patients now experience enhanced refractive outcomes and heightened satisfaction levels. Furthermore, the incorporation of state-of-the-art imaging technologies such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) into surgical procedures facilitates accurate IOL placement, a pivotal factor in achieving optimal postoperative results. These advancements signify a significant leap forward in improving the overall efficacy and precision of cataract surgery.

Surgical Safety and Complication Management

Improvements in surgical instruments and techniques have revolutionized cataract surgery, drastically reducing associated risks. The advent of viscoelastic materials has played a crucial role in preserving eye structure throughout the procedure, notably diminishing complications like endothelial damage. Moreover, real-time monitoring and control systems employed during phacoemulsification procedures have further elevated surgical safety standards. These systems offer immediate feedback and enable precise adjustments, preempting potential complications and ensuring smoother surgical outcomes. This integrated approach underscores the continuous advancement in enhancing the safety and efficacy of cataract surgery.

The Role of Artificial Intelligence

Recent advancements in ophthalmic surgery have seen a profound integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into the diagnosis, planning, and execution of cataract surgeries. AI algorithms now play a pivotal role in meticulously analyzing pre-operative images, accurately predicting the ideal Intraocular Lens (IOL) power, and providing invaluable assistance in surgical planning processes. This seamless fusion of AI technologies promises to elevate surgical outcomes to unprecedented levels of precision, streamline procedures to reduce surgical times and enhance safety standards across the board, marking a significant leap forward in ophthalmic care.

Global Access and Cost Efficiency

With the advancements in techniques and technology, cataract surgery has not only become more effective but also more accessible. Efforts are ongoing to reduce the costs associated with high-end technologies like FLACS, making them more available worldwide, especially in low to middle-income countries where cataract-related blindness is most prevalent. These initiatives aim to ensure that individuals in underserved regions have access to the same standard of care as those in more affluent areas, thus narrowing the gap in healthcare disparities globally.

Conclusion

The future of cataract surgery is on an exciting trajectory, propelled by ongoing technological advancements and a comprehensive comprehension of ocular anatomy. With each stride in refinement, the paramount objectives remain steadfast: refining patient outcomes, mitigating potential risks, and expediting recovery periods. These progressive developments in cataract surgery not only facilitate vision restoration but also markedly enhance the overall quality of life for countless individuals annually. Through a synthesis of innovation and expertise, this field continues to redefine the standards of care, offering renewed hope and clarity to those grappling with vision impairment. 2024.05.14 21:53 CheesePuffxo AITA for getting someone potentially banned from my gym?

TW-transphobia
I (32F) was scrolling social media, as one does. I came across a post about how someone was canceling their gym membership because they didn't agree with their gyms policies when it came to trans people using change rooms. They believe that their should be 3 change rooms, 1 for bio female, 1 for bio males and one for trans people (her words not mine). There was lots if comments on her post.
One comment was from her sister (40 F), who posted a photo of someone in a change room at the gym she goes to. The sister shared a picture of someone in a change room, stating the person was changing in the women's change room and they didn't put on a towel until they realized other women were uncomfortable. I don't know the whole story behind the picture, I'm guessing the person was trans. I did recognize the change room though. It was the same change room I use when I go to the gym.
One of the most in-your-face policies, with signs posted everywhere is no photos are to be taken of staff or patrons at the gym.
So I took screen shots and approached the front desk after my work out. I asked them if I could launch a complaint about a patron. The front desk lady was super nice, took my complaint seriously and I provided the name and birth date of the patron, as well as the screen shots.
The front desk lady followed up with me and then the general manager followed up with me. I'm not sure what will come of this, but I'm certain this person will be banned. I'm debating if I should have addressed it on social media or if I did the right thing.
So AITA?

2024.05.14 21:52 indytriesart How do investigators in extremely remote areas manage?

I work on the foster care side of things, so I am knowledgable about how things work in general but am curious about an investigator’s perspective.
I made a report earlier today about two children I know - but I am just feeling anxious no one will make contact due to the situation. This is a family living completely “off the grid.” The “home” is over two hours from the actual mailing address and these are unmapped dirt roads. I can’t fathom how CPS will even be able to find it.
What are CPS options in a case like this? Will there actually be significant efforts made to reach them? Just feeling a bit hopeless and would love to hear how CPS investigators actually manage in areas like this - it seems like an impossible ask.

Hello, I'm new to opnsense and I just setup up my opnsense machine.
I am having issues with what I suspect is the firewall rules between my two network.
Goal: I want my main PC to be able to ssh into my server. They are on two different networks.
My setup:
Troubleshooting steps:
Question: I do notice that there is a "sshlockout" auto generated rule on the server network firewall rules. this is states block any in traffic that is TCP on port 22. Would this be why I am not able to SSH from my main PC to the server on the server network?
Question: Is there any firewall rule I need to do on the server network to allow in coming traffic from my main network?
Question: do I need to port forward my ssh port under NAT -> port forward. To be clear I will not port forward to the internet but rather port forward outside the server network. So my main network can connect to it
Let me know if anything is not clear

2024.05.14 21:51 Yunadere Writing a non-Canadian return address on my mail

Hello! I (a canadian) am employed by a small American company and I fulfill orders on their behalf, but they don't have a Canadian PO box/address and I'm not to put my own.
I have been putting their american return address (on the top left corner) of the letter mail, and they have been successfully mailed to the customers. But for the larger packages I go through the post office, and they mentioned that they do not accept a non-Canadian return address when mailing from within Canada.
I was wondering if anyone has any similar situations and/or solutions?
Thanks,

2024.05.14 21:48 Interesting_Sale_559 Bring Your Own Modem & New Install Annoyance

I'm a newer customer at optimum and I am literally ripping hair out after the experience I have had on the phone with customer service the past few days. Previous tenants at my address had service disconnected due to nonpayment, so I had to go through manual identity verification, which was a bit annoying, but fine. Finally today I get the hold cleared, and inform the sales rep that I would like to use my own router with my service.
I get the whole "But miss our modem is specially designed for-" spiel and reiterate to the rep that I have my own compatible modem and router, and that I need the features provided by them as a CS and Networking student. He again comes back with "- but our wireless combo unit covers up to 5,000 square feet -" and I give in and just tell him to send me it and I will use it in access point only mode so I can avoid going out and buying a cheap AP for my wireless devices. He tells me "that's way above my paygrade but sounds good" and that I should have it by mail in about 3 days.
Of course now I find out that unlike the equipment I had been using when I was a client of the previous local company that Optimum absorbed, this new combo box doesn't even have pretty much any degree of user serviceability and you have to call support to even put it into bridge mode???? Okay, fine. Since service is active and I opted for self-install, I can just connect my modem and return their box immediately since the rental fee is just rolled into the monthly charge anyway and I don't need their locked-down junk. I figured I'd have to call a rep and give them the modem's CM MAC so that they can provision it, but oh boy.
I call. "Miss we can not do that until after you activate your Optimum branded box." Why? "We need the technician to verify that your lines and connection is fine before we try." Okay but the up and down services are both connected and the online light on my modem shows it is online with Docsis 3.1 capability. And I can ping the gateway. "I will talk to my supervisor please hold."
At this point I try to create an Optimum user account with my account number and pin, which I set up with the original sales rep. No dice. I ask why that does not work and the rep tells me that I need my pin for that and that he can not provide that to me until my Optimum gateway is up and communicating. Again, I already have my pin, but it seems that I can not set up my online account for payment/etc for the first time unless I am connecting from my home network; the one that I can not connect from because they will not provision my modem because of some arbitrary "you must first use our junk even if it is for three and a half minutes" limitation.
Yes, I know I can wait the three days for my box to arrive and then go through the hassle with phone support to provision my modem then, but why? I have compatible equipment.
I feel like I am going insane, like yes I understand that typical protocol follows giving "whatever will work" to people who may not have a need for "something that will work well", but I have a need and this has been INCREDIBLY frustrating. You're telling me that there is NO protocol for this? Other than having a rep come do my install and cutting them off before they connect the box to tell them I have my own?
Incredibly long post but I needed to vent this experience so that I can chill out and enjoy my 240p Youtube videos from my mobile hotspot for the next 3 days.

2024.05.14 21:42 Browndog_Nunchucks Question - landscape fabric under gravel in garden bed?

I usually do my own stuff but decided to hire out some work this year because I'm busy with other projects inside the house. I hired a landscaping company to weed and put mulch in the front yard, and weed edge and put gravel in the back. I decided on gravel because we have dogs, and the puppy we got in December is now a bit more grown and had been digging in the mulch. He said that he would put down landscape fabric, and then a generous layer of rock.
Firstly, when they put down mulch, they ended up hauling away about a cubic yard or more that wasn't needed, but the price I paid didn't change at all. He had said, when discussing the estimate, that the price was for the yards of mulch. This was after I told him I didn't need any edging in the front because there's a rock border. When I questioned it while squaring up the bill, he stated that they had enough mulch for two jobs and had accidentally dropped off the full load in my driveway. I really feel like that was BS, but I wasn't going to argue with him and call him a liar. For all I know he was telling the truth.
So yesterday he texted me to say they were coming to put down gravel, and by the time I saw the message, they were already here and had already put down several wheelbarrows full. He sent the message literally right as they showed up. They didn't use any fabric, they were just dumping it right on the dirt . In some places I can see right through it to the dirt below. All in all it's about a single layer in most places.
I'm not trying to nitpick, but I'm just thinking ahead. I'm okay to freshen it up as needed in coming years, but It seems like without fabric and without enough rock, it's going to sink into the mud and I'm also going to be battling weeds non stop. I did shake a bunch of Preen over it last night. And, I have some propane torches that make quick work of pesky weeds. Ultimately, however, it's just not the service we agreed on, and I'm positive he's going to insist the bill remain the same.
I'm just looking for advice on if I'm being too picky, or how I should address it if not. Thanks

2024.05.14 21:40 Gremlinsblood DASHER SUPPORT IS ALWAYS STRIVING TO REACH NEW LOWS.

Scheduling has been screwed for nearly a week in my area. When early access scheduling comes out at 3pm absolutely no available shift information appears for my area. There are schedules that will never be claimed after midnight for this area because almost nothing in opened. The money isn't worth leaving he house for. So, when nothing is shown in this area for early access or after midnight (for those that are restricted from early access) I know something is screwed up. I checked the other cities in my state and all of those cities show available shifts. Only Muncie is blacked out.
I tried driver support again yesterday and it was a shit show. I typed everything out before clicking the chat button in an effort to make them understand what the problem is. They didn't even attempt to read it. They immediately started trying to address my "red card problem". At no point did I ever mention anything about the red card. When I finally got them on track they started to read for the damned script. Telling me they would email me the instruction for claiming a schedule. (by the way, they didn't even carry though and email that information). I've done over 7400 orders. I know how to schedule. While trying to get it through the granite like head of this person they constantly kept trying to cut off the chat. I couldn't type half a sentence without them trying to end the chat. I did manage to get one more long message through, when they asked me to rate the support, requesting that the issue be given to a supervisor so they could have the IT department look at it after I was cut off.
I have not received a single email about any of my support chats for the last week.

2024.05.14 21:40 Psychological_Wall_5 Woo! Progress!

Woo! Progress!
Hold on to hope people, things are moving at a snails pace, but much faster than the sloths pace it was before.
TL:DR - loans have been discharged 100%, sites reflect discharge (BD app site doesn't yet), letter from DoE confirms, waiting (impatiently) on refund(s) to arrive in the mail. Refund matches what I paid after loans were consolidated into direct loans.
June 1997 - pressured to attend ITT Tech, was told I probably would not get in if I waited. Never graduated, wasn't learning anything. Took out loans (FFELP through CitiBank) and still had to pay $300+ a month to attend.
1998 - 2000 - tried paying on loans, defaulted
2005 - loans consolidated into direct loans, tried paying, defaulted
2010 - 2016 - Debt Resolution Group garnished my wages (2016 switched jobs, garnishments didn't follow)
February 2017 - Treasury Offset for all but $86 of my loan (apparently they could only take so much of my tax refund)
February 2017 - applied for borrowers defense
June 19, 2017 (ish) - DoE reviewing borrowers defense claim
February 2018 - paid off remaining balance of loan ($86)
December 12, 2019 - Nelnet emails approval of borrowers defense claim forbearance
December 18, 2019 - Rec'd notification of Sweet vs Cardona class action lawsuit
May 20, 2020 - DoE denies borrowers defense claim
June 16, 2020 - DoE email stating my borrowers defense claim is back under review
August 18, 2022 - DoE emails another letter regarding borrowers defense claim and Sweet vs Cardona lawsuit
February 28, 2023 - Rec'd approval of borrowers defense application from DoE for full discharge
March 21, 2023 - $368.88 credited to my Nelnet account from the DoE due to it taking so long to review my borrowers defense claim.
May 19, 2023 - Rec'd 2 notices on the Nelnet site stating loans #006 and #007 had been paid off. No record of those loans on Nelnet, they were originally through USA Funds, now Ascendium Education.
May 24, 2023 - Rec'd email response from Nelnet regarding payoff letters
June 20, 2023 - waiting on refund and more information. Loans were fully paid off in 2018 and I can't find information on how much was actually paid into them, other than $17.5k through garnishments of wages and tax refunds after default
November 29, 2023 - noticed my student loans on the debt resolution portal reflected negative balances
December 12, 2023 - received a letter from the DoE stating the application for discharge of my student loans had been approved. Letter showed original amounts of loans (at consolidation)
February 21, 2024 - called debt resolution group regarding a refund owed on my account, rep stated I was owed one and would start the process
February 22, 2024 - account on debt resolution site stated refund request started
February 23, 2024 - account on debt resolution site stated refund request was internally rejected
April 12, 2024 - submitted a complaint regarding my refund being rejected on the debt resolution site
April 15, 2024 - received a call (went to vm) stating that it wasn't rejected, just in hiatus for review and they would reinstate the refund request, website reflected refund request started
April 20, 2024 - refund request internally rejected, again
April 30, 2024 - submitted another complaint regarding refund request
May 9, 2024 - student loans reflected positive and negative balances, showed progress on refunds being processed
May 13, 2024 - one loan showed in default with $865 due (part of the process, I assumed)
May 14, 2024 (today!) - received letter (shown) from DoE stating my BD had been processed and I was receiving a refund of $17,505 and change. Have not received any checks as of yet. Checked debt resolution site and my loans are both at $0!
Now I'm waiting (impatiently) for the refund to arrive. Both of my girls are graduating (one high school, one college) this year and I want to take them on a small trip to celebrate. Will update with more information.

2024.05.14 21:34 NonChronCrone13 Twenty-something daughter's angst

My daughter is now 26. She's had a history of anxiety, meltdowns, social challenges, short-term part-time jobs, isolation, conflict with absent dad, heartbreak stretching months after each boyfriend. We got along ok living together until she was 20, when I asked her to start helping more with paying household expenses. After complaining to her new boyfriend, he invited her to move in with him in a big rooming house where everybody pays a share of the rent.
She stepped up for it, starting a couple of moneymaking enterprises and paid her share. Seemed great for a year, but then as autumn 2019 progressed, multiple roommates moved out and the share the remaining roomies paid went up quite a bit.
They decided to move out too, setting their sights on a remote island community where he thought he could get carpentry work. In discussing this move just before winter, I suggested that she, with him, move back into her old room at my place, just for the winter, so they could work hard and save up money to be better prepared for moving in the spring. I offered to spend more time at my boyfriend's house, so they'd have more space and privacy at our apartment.
Well, they liked that idea and started moving in. I would be gone for several days and come home to a mess in the kitchen and living room with stacks of tools and possessions and building supplies. The boyfriend kept bringing more stuff, even after I asked them to stop. They repeatedly agreed to keep things cleaner, occasionally there was a cleaner moment, but then back to disaster zone that kept getting deeper.
Pandemic meant the regular twice yearly housing inspections didn't happen, so I was the only one advocating for cleanliness. They kept taking my things out of the kitchen cabinets and communal areas and stacking them in my bedroom. They let a friend of theirs sleep in my bed. Brought rabbits and pigeons inside, creating a farm-partment atmosphere. I was less and less welcome in my own home, and not comfortable there either.
That situation came to a head when Housing inspected the mess, when after all the mailed notices were hidden from me, I finally got notice of impending eviction. They vacated without cleaning, spewing blame and much conflict, the boyfriend being large and loud. After two weeks of constant effort I was able to clear out and clean up enough to pass the second inspection.
They moved into the basement of his parent's rental duplex nearby, were given permission to stay for six months. A similar mess occured there, with similar conflict with his parents, chaos dragging on and piles of garbage, ending with hatred and anger. Same thing after that with a family friend. At least I knew it wasn't all me...
OK, a few years have passed now. They have stayed in the area, spent two rough winters living homeless. She's still with the boyfriend, and I see them from time to time in my neighborhood. Coupla months ago I flagged her down, saying she had mail at my place and I'd found some of her possessions, asked her to come by. That went ok, she was subdued, accepted the items.
A few weeks later we spoke again, this time she got triggered and I asked what she was still so upset about, so she recounted a long list of mistakes I made as a mother, plus my many failings as a person, before storming off. She said I might have a selective memory but she doesn't. Few weeks later she passed me on her bike as I was walking, she recognized me and looked back to flip me off.
It was admittedly a stressful period for many people and for many reasons. Transition to adulthood can also be rough, especially for two late launchers like this couple. I've accepted that I'm not likely to understand why they've made these choices, and I'm willing and hoping to establish a more peaceful relationship based on us both being adults with a common background.
In some ways it could be mutually helpful to work together, such as her mail coming here until she gets a longer-term address. But I don't see it working out unless she can get over this stuck on angst gig.
Rather than having a selective memory, it's selective focus that I'm aiming for.
Seeking suggestions on how to de-escalate and find our way to a better system, or how to let her know her mail will no longer be accepted here if we can't even have a civil passing relationship.
