2024.05.17 22:31 throwRA31113 My (30f) gf(27f) is acting like a different person when discussing engagement, how do I handle this?

I can’t tell if I(30f) am overreacting or if this is a reason to walk away, which would shatter me. I didn’t realize this was how my girlfriend (27f) felt about our relationship/me until we recently began to discuss the future of our relationship in a more serious manner.
For background, we have been together almost 3 years and have always been on the same page about wanting to get married. My girlfriend stated in the beginning of our relationship that she would like to be the provider and would be happy supporting me as a stay at home wife/pet mom/my dream of opening up a small business. We went through a traumatic event together at 1 year in, and then my girlfriend has been finishing her master’s degree this past year, so seriously considering engagement has not been a priority. We did originally agree that the 3 year mark was a good time to consider engagement. Another piece of background info is my girlfriend comes from a /very/ wealthy family and I do not. My parents are middle class and I have no idea what my inheritance will look like, but most likely won’t be a lot. I have always worked hard and make almost $80k a year, which is a pretty decent salary. My girlfriend plans to go to medical school and will likely make much more.
So…in the past 3 months, my girlfriend has started to make comments about marriage being “just a piece of paper”, “a trap”, things of that nature. I was just shrugging them off and laughing along because they made me feel awkward at first. My breaking point was 2 weeks ago when she made a comment in front of her dad and me that I wanted to get married, but she just didn’t know and was afraid of someone taking her money. I felt this was problematic because she 1. embarrassed me by saying this in front of her dad, and 2. expressed a lack of trust in me. A few days after that, she mentioned that her dad had urged her brother to get a prenup when he got married to his wife, and that his wife was fine with it. This felt like a way of subtly suggesting we do the same if we were to get married. It seems as though she is having a lot of anxiety about money and commitment as our relationship approaches the three year mark. She has also recently mentioned that she would want to have separate bank accounts if we got married.
I did address these comments with her and she opened up about her fear of getting married due to her parents’ unhealthy marriage and the fact that her mom is essentially trapped. She also said she has a fear of money getting taken from her because she had an ex in the past take things (the cats they had together) when they broke up. While these are valid fears, part of me feels like they could just be an excuse and I deserve a partner who trusts me more and is simply just excited to get married. It seems like the main thoughts she has around marriage is what will happen after it fails and if she will lose her money or not.
She has been in therapy the whole time I’ve known her. She has told me many times she mainly works on past trauma in therapy, and I am not sure why she hasn’t made it a priority to discuss these things with her therapist so she can work on the things that are blocking her from setting us up for marriage. It makes me feel like I am not a priority and she doesn’t take our relationship as seriously as I do.
I had a wonderful model of marriage with my parents, who had a shared bank account, and did not have a prenup. I come from a family of people in healthy marriages who come from different financial backgrounds and have similar relationship models. I have seen statistics about how a shared bank account leads to marriages that work out because they create a sense of unity.
I realize that prenups “protect both people”, “they are misunderstood”, etc. However I just can’t imagine getting over her asking me to sign a prenup (if she did) and having to hire my own lawyer to come to an agreement with her. I feel as though it would create resentment I wouldn’t be able to move on from.
I 100% that I would not steal her inheritance or screw her over if things went south. I wouldn’t do that to my worst enemy, it’s not how I am. There are so many thoughts and feelings i have surrounding this but it comes down to me not wanting to sign a prenup, not wanting separate bank accounts, and feeling like I shouldn’t have to beg someone to just be excited to marry me. I am looking for input because I am not sure how to discuss this with her at this point or if I should just walk away.

2024.05.17 22:31 prisondiary Prison Diary - April 23rd

Woke up feeling pants and really groggy. My cell mate has been ill and I think I might have caught it off him. Not a happy chap today as I have zero energy. Even stayed in bed until one of the learners came and knocked me up asking why I wasn’t downstairs. FFS. I could have cried. Dramatic gay. Plus I must be ill as my wee stunk this morning. Just thought id share that.
Eventually went to the other blocks and done some teaching there then headed to block , crashed and fell asleep on the sofas on the landings. Sleeping on the job hey, lets hope they don’t take a days wages off me. £3.20 buys me 8 bananas which most weeks don’t turn up and im forever applying for a refund. It wouldn’t bother me so much on the outside but in here that is a lot of money.
Anyway, another day equals another fight. One of the boys pulled on Alans beard so he grabbed him by the throat up against the wall. Bit over the top?! Not if you could see Alans beard and how much pride he takes in it. Im sure its oiled everyday amongst other parts of his body. Urgh! He even sits at the table and strokes it as if its some kind of animal. It’s a little on the weird side.
Tonight's dinner was a real winner, I devoured two faggots. Hold on, before your imagination runs wild, let me clarify. I'm talking about actual meat here, not some prison code for secret shenanigans.
Social hour wasn't quite my cup of tea, as I was feeling a bit under the weather. So, I opted for a front row seat to the boys' card game extravaganza and indulged in a bit of good old people watching. Honestly if you keep your eyes peeled and watch the right people, you'll witness a veritable drug shop unfolding right before your eyes.
I decided to do a little observation on 'Chucky', our resident drug smuggle, lets go big and call him the drug king pin, to see how he works his magic. He does a manoeuvre that has never been seen before – hand down the pants (not exactly fashion-forward), retrieves the goods, and then discreetly bumps into another prisioner, all in one seamless motion and the exchange or ‘trade’ has taken place. that method is unheard of. I mean im being a sarcastic dick and if the offices cannot see that and know what it is then all hope is lost in this place.
The exchange even takes place in a blind spot for the cameras. Talk about a crash course in contraband commerce!
Walking past certain cells is an adventure i like to have to peep in and see how your neighbours have decorated.
In Jonnys. the unmistakable aroma of smoke wafts out, ofcourse, courtesy of makeshift cigarettes crafted from Bible pages and tea bag leaves or the classic Bible and tobacco combo that some resourceful inmates have managed to smuggle in. Yet, the ever vigilant officers seem to walk right past, blissfully unaware of the aromatic smells. Ah, the mysteries of prison life hey! I think it’s a case of if they are not causing any trouble then leave them get on with it. Or if your face fits then your fine.
One cell was open so I stopped and looked in. The curtains were closed, the disk light on the ceiling had dish clothes covering it so it gives a dim low red light, and the smoke alarm is covered with some form of plastic. The music was blasting and the guy just looks spaced out on his bed. How he can stay in that room with the strong smell of smoke I have no idea.
There is a lot of spice in this prison considering its the biggest Welsh prison I would have assumed security is tighter.. oh no. There is so much that they drop like flies daily. The alarms are always ringing with code blues.
We do have a main drug dealer though. Its Chucky. On a visit a few weeks ago my dad said ‘If I was a prison officer, id strip search that guy’, referring to Chucky. He went to the toilet, his visitor went to the toilet, then he would go again etc. Something was clearly going on. Back in the waiting room after visiting he pulled out 7 bags of white stuff. It was his sister and brother in law visiting. She got it via her knickers. Crazy shit right but so easily done.
On the wing tonight, he is walking around with 2 beaded Christian cross necklaces around his neck. Man, I aint no saint but fuck me, if he is looking to give himself to Jesus then the lord has his work cut out! Bit of advice from me to you God – Close those gates immediately! The day he gives himself to Jesus is the day when Jesus himself stands infront of me and slaps my face with a wet fish, and guess what Chucky – that aint ever gonna happen dude.
Rest of the evening has been chilling in the cell with my green tea and trail mix. Look at lucky me living the high life. Hopefully im feeling better tomorrow. I need some of Rich's chicken broth from back home. Ha, everytime i was poorly he would make it for me without fail. A big grin just come on my face thinking about that. I remember trying to make it for him once when he was poorly, he ended up making it as I had no idea what I was doing and I was calling him every 20 minutes asking for more guidance. Huge love.
In other news a new guy came in today and was walking as if he had hurt his leg, when one of the officers asked him about it he was so off his face that he didn't hear them. This afternoon when they went to his cell they caught him squatting down I'm pulling bags of drugs out of his arse – amazing. When the officer was telling me this I was weak laughing, This is crazy shit.
Apparently he is one of them that use the prison doors as a rotating door and knows how easy it is to get drugs in here. He's only been here for hours and he's asked half the prison for drugs already – and scored.

2024.05.17 22:31 bananaslings94 Just found out the owner of my daughters preschool has a felony

About 10 years ago they got a felony for hitting a 2 year old in their preschool. My daughter just finished one year there and everything was fine, I had no idea about this felony until I was trying to find all the names of the teachers online. The owner is one of the main teachers. There is one more year of preschool my daughter can do. Would you allow your kid to keep going after finding this out?

2024.05.17 22:31 SSJBardockObama [M4F] The world has changed... Prepare for the post apocalypse

So firstly, I apologise if this post is hot garbage.
I'm just your average, 29 yo guy from the UK looking for others to roleplay and have fun with. I have an idea of a basic roleplay that we could play out, and just note.... I'm more than open to suggestions for scenarios.....
The world has changed, first people thought it was just another pandemic... Another variant of COVID, noooo this is something far worse, something more dangerous and barbaric... This pandemic was changing people, changing them in ways we haven't seen before. No one knows how to cure this plague, all we can do is.... survive. We can play two survivors who meet years after surviving in the post apocalyptic world and yeahhh who knows after that. We could go with the fallout route, with people coming out of apocalypse shelters and seeing the world how it is, could be 6 months down the line, could be a couple of years.... Again, we can flesh out the details or change things here n there. The character you choose could either be a celebrity or someone based on the looks of one, I'll leave that bit up to you!
If this post catches your eye, feel free to drop me a DM and we can go from there.
I am 18+ and all the participants and characters in my roleplay must be 18+

2024.05.17 22:29 SSJBardockObama [M4F] The world has changed...

2024.05.17 22:28 wagnerstechtalk Running External Programs on the 4KP: General Loader - Details coming

I want to talk to you about something pretty cool called the General Loader within CE-4K (the user interface on the Legends 4KP). The General Loader allows running your own applications or those created by the community on the 4KP. These apps are made specifically for the 4KP and can do all sorts of things, like freeware/commercial games, tools, and more. As with any downloaded software, make sure that you install them from trusted sources, be aware of the potential for bad stuff, etc. I will not address specific use-cases or applications. I will only provide a few examples along with details on how to build/deploy them to the 4KP.
I've been working closely with the AtGames team to understand how all of this works as a community resource. About a month ago, I started documenting the basic steps involved. It's been quite the journey, but almost there! To make your own apps, you'll need a PC running Ubuntu. I created a guide a few months back showing how to install Ubuntu on your Windows PC in preparation for this project. You can check it out here: https://wagnerstechtalk.com/vms . It will be needed for this upcoming project!
As a little experiment, I used AI (thanks, ChatGPT!) to create a simple sample app. that bounces a ball on the main playfield display. This example will be provided in the upcoming General Loader guide. In addition, there is a more advanced example that was shared with me - a snake game that allows you to use the dPad or Arcade Control Panel to navigate a snake on the playfield. If you're curious what they look like at present, here is an unlisted video as a brief demonstration: https://youtu.be/IQ-_4WGoMhI
I'm hoping to have everything ready to share with you next week, but in the meantime, I'd love to hear what you think! Are you excited about diving into the world of the General Loader? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

2024.05.17 22:28 hismostbelovedspawn A different perspective on Ascended Astarion

A different perspective on Ascended Astarion
Hello! <3
(Just a quick disclaimer: I'm not going to be talking about any of this in the context of real life relationships, or whether it would be healthy or not. I'll only be analyzing a fantasy couple in a fantasy world, and presenting a different roleplaying perspective for the AA path. I'm choosing the appreciation flair for this because I would mainly just like to showcase another interpretation here, for players who would be interested in trying this path for themselves, but I'm still open to discussion in the comments if you have any questions! Maybe this will resonate with some of you, maybe not, but I wanted to put it out there 🦇❤️)
The first thing I want to mention is a line your butler Sceleritas Fel says to you in Act 2, if you play as the Dark Urge origin and resist killing Isobel:
(About Astarion:) \"You like him for more than his looks [...].\"
This pretty much confirms that our character, at this point, has real feelings for Astarion. We can even tell Sceleritas "I love him. No, it cannot be", ruling out any superficial attachment.
Then, when we get to the confession scene, Tav/Durge has the option to use the tadpole connection to open their mind to him and directly show him their feelings are genuine: "I care about you. Deeply." followed by 'Open your mind so he sees you care.'
Astarion: \"You... you are full of surprises, aren't you?\"
From this scene onward, it should be fair to assume that Astarion knows Tav/Durge is serious about the relationship.
I'll get back to this later, but next, let's talk about trust.
Trust was always very important to Astarion, right from the beginning. You get approval for letting him keep watch the first night at camp, for not turning him in to the monster hunter, for telling him you believe him and letting him bite you, and for defending him from the other companions after the vampire reveal.
Even in the Act 1 romance scene, despite his nice, simple plan to manipulate Tav, he gets really hurt and breaks it off if your character implies they don't trust him not to bite them. It's reason enough for him to abandon the whole thing. You also get +10 approval for trusting him further and selecting 'Roll playfully and offer him your neck', double the approval you gain for just initiating the romance scene (Source: bg3 wiki). If you tell him "Keep those teeth away from me!", he says this:
Astarion: \"But if you don't trust me, then I guess [...] that's off the table.\"
You can see it always meant a lot to him when Tav/Durge placed their trust in him.
Here's where this ties into ascension:
https://preview.redd.it/wya1idi8211d1.jpg?width=602&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2b7b1125a8f3c947c2caae3882fa9e877e818f5
At this pivotal moment, he is asking Tav/Durge for their trust. To trust him to make the choice, to trust him with all that power. If you help him ascend and choose "You did it! I can't believe you did it!" immediately afterwards, his response is "I did... We did."
Next, you stand with him against the Gur again, take his side again. Which brings us to the long rest scene.
This is where it's often said that the relationship becomes "transactional". But the only way that really happens is if you choose the option "I want you. I want your body" after he asks what Tav/Durge wants. Because if you choose "You can tell me that you've learned something from all this" or "I'm not your pet" instead, both the subsequent offer to turn you into a vampire and the suggestion of spending the night together come from Astarion, not the player character. You can completely avoid making any demands in this scene, and in that case there is no reason we should assume that Astarion, who looked inside Tav/Durge's mind in Act 2 and saw their honest feelings, would suddenly believe they just expect him to sleep with them again.
Astarion never uses the promise of immortality or sleeping with Tav to convince them to help him ascend. What he does say is this:
Astarion: [...] I'll be free - truly, completely free. Isn't that what you want?\"
So I believe the only motivation he would see on Tav's part would be this; that they wanted him to have his freedom as desperately as he did, whatever the cost.
I think it's also very important to consider that he doesn't suggest spending their "last night alive" with Tav/Durge until after they've already agreed to become his spawn. So it isn't something he uses to manipulate them into accepting his offer. You even get +3 approval exclusively for saying yes.
Here are some devnotes for the turning scene that give further insight and, in my opinion, support the idea that he is not pretending:
https://preview.redd.it/1otyeebj211d1.jpg?width=407&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d803ce5d3faede300abfa19304b8f8b294cf7478
\"Player kneels before Astarion. [...] Astarion stands proud before the Player. He is powerful. He is free\"
\"He gazes down at Player. He is savouring the moment\"
Returning to the topic of trust, this is the first thing he says to the player the morning after he turns you:
Astarion: \"You are so beautiful... And you will be beautiful forever. Thank you for trusting me.\"
Becoming his spawn was the ultimate "I trust you", the culmination of all those times you trusted him before. And he knows that, too.
The word comes up in party banter about the romance as well.
With Karlach:
With Lae'zel:
There's also party banter with Minthara that confirms your shared bond is special to him:
Another clear sign that Astarion knows Tav/Durge has real feelings for him is that often-quoted line in the post-breakup dialogue:
Personally, I think he's mostly saying this out of grief and spite, to convince both you and himself that breaking up was for the best. But regardless of what his motivations for saying this are, if he truly believes he would have "ruined Tav's love" or not, I think it's worth noting the implication here: that he knows how Tav/Durge feels/would have felt for him; that they love(d) and trust(ed) him.
Another thing I want to mention is one of the lines he can say when he's trying to convince you to become his spawn:
This is often quoted as proof that his feelings towards Tav/Durge aren't genuine anymore, that he's just trying to manipulate them here. But I think those two things (him being manipulative and him meaning the words he says) aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. Even if he really loves Tav/Durge, in the moment he says this, he is desperately trying to convince them to accept his offer; you get this line in response to a dialogue option that implies Tav thinks he would treat them like Cazador treated him. That likely throws him off balance and heightens the need he feels to manipulate the player, because he can sense they have little faith in him.
If you choose softer dialogue options instead, you can also get a more sincere sounding "You're the one that I want, the one that I love", without the added "That's what you've been waiting to hear". The less Tav/Durge gives him reason to think they don't trust him, the more genuine he sounds in his responses to them.
I believe Astarion turned Tav/Durge so he could forever have someone he trusted and who trusted him, who would always be by his side; so he could have the certainty that he would never have to be alone again, no matter what happened in the future. Someone he could be certain could never abandon him, no matter how monstrous he became to the rest of the world, who would stay with him for all eternity.
This is supported by what he says to a previously romanced Tav in the epilogue if you broke up with him:
https://preview.redd.it/uhp49wcfc11d1.jpg?width=545&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b52d8cd6d63e8567b74e5824c6cdbe10e3e248ba
The final thing I want to talk about is the perceived change to his personality after ascension. While I think it's a valid interpretation that the ritual could have magically enhanced his preexisting "bad" traits, such as hunger for power, I don't think the ritual completely changed him, or gave him negative traits that weren't there before. Here is a collection of lines from before ascension that show he always had a strong desire to be powerful and completely free, free to just do whatever he wanted (which I think could tie into the devnote describing him as powerful and free after ascension):
(Act 1)
(Act 3)
https://preview.redd.it/l3m5ycjog11d1.jpg?width=726&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7c2a19ebd4f58b8f84d44cb2b7a80174efc442a3
After ascension, he can also say this:
Astarion \"I'm free. I'm finally free! Oh it feels delicious.\" Player: \"And? What can a Vampire Ascendant do?\" Astarion: \"I think the answer to that is 'whatever they damn well please'.\"
While from an outside perspective he could be considered "trapped" by his hunger for power, I think Astarion himself truly feels powerful and free now.
His broader worldview didn't change, but if your Tav/Durge is someone who shares that worldview and supports his evil ambitions, I don't think their story has to end in tragedy (unless that's what you want for your story, of course).
I want to also mention here that ascension didn't take his soul away or bind him to the hells; Cazador took his place as a sacrifice in the ritual. This is supported by what he says in this scene if you play as Astarion Origin: he tries to scare him by telling him if he makes a mistake while carving the runes, his soul will be sacrificed instead. The ritual required the sacrifice of 7000 souls, not that of the vampire completing it. The contract can also be found near Vellioth's skull and examined to see there is no fine print that would indicate Astarion loses his soul during ascension. When asked if he is bound to Mephistopheles now, he even says this to Tav:
https://preview.redd.it/fohstya0k11d1.jpg?width=677&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=302229d0eaf7435decded166826eb53652a7d25b
I'll end this post with one of my favourite lines in he game, the one he says to Tav/Durge just before he turns them:
Astarion: \"You have given me everything. Thank you.\"
If you've made it this far, whether you find yourself agreeing with any of this or not, thank you very much for having taken the time to read it! I'll be happy to answer any questions in the comments. ❤️

2024.05.17 22:28 Chibi_Jesus Getting ready for SotE

Sorry if this is the 100th post like this but I'm looking to get ready for the expansion and just loaded up my main character (lvl 304) in Elden Ring on PC after having not played in 2 years. Pretty sure I'm in NG+3 or 4 (is there any way to tell?) and have no idea at what point I'm at in the story but I do have endgame locations unlocked...just not sure if I should do SOTE with this character in my current playthrough, start NG+5, or just create a fresh character. I'm leaning towards just starting NG+5 with this character so the early game isn't terribly difficult, and I can get reacclimated to the game.
Also considering getting the game on PS5 just so I can play it on a big TV. Have there been any significant performance updates to the console versions, like a 40fps lock or anything? I can already run ER maxed out at 2k res and get 60fps on PC...I know console will be a performance downgrade, just not sure how much of a visual downgrade it will be as well.

2024.05.17 22:26 RemoteWarewolf33 Help with board

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone can give me any pointers on this board, I can not find anything online about this board or chips.
Below is what I have discovered:
The main chip I believe as an MCU by RENESAS with the model R8J32740FP42. Whilst I can find a lot of documents online about RENESAS and other 128 pin chips from them I cannot find anything specific to this one.
The AR15F6 - This seems to be an 8 pin chip, however I was not able to put my 8 pin SOIC clip on it to get a reading, it seems smaller than the usually winbound 8 pin chips I have seen.
The 2ATTI 2ATTI - A8JVG2 - 2050G4 - This one I am confident is correct as I also know it exists in another device for the same purpose and seems to be a motor IC chip commonly found is laser products.
More detailed photos - [Imgur: The magic of the Internet](https://imgur.com/a/jMDrp0V)
The 8 pin chip labelled AR15F6 - Would this be the chip that would program the Renesas chip? I couldn't really find 64 or 128 clip. I did see some Renesas programmers, but I did not find any with the interface to program this chip.
My goal is I would like try and repair this disc drive and take a flash reading as I have done in the past for previous failed hard drives. Any help appreciated, thanks

2024.05.17 22:26 stayinyourlaneson As a new member of the ton… my thoughts on Part 1.

Hey yall, I said in my first post here a few days ago that I only recently started watching Bridgerton. I’ve worked in television myself (behind the scenes on reality shows!) for the past two years and I’ve always been an analytical, observant person who digs a bit deeper - especially on content I watch - and so I wanted to give my (initial) thoughts on 3.1 and the characters because I’ve literally been thinking about it nonstop since it dropped, like the rest of you!
THE ROMANTIC LEADS:
First and foremost, I need a gigantic round of applause for Nicola Coughlan. Aside from the obvious, let me explain why.
It seems that the romantic leads in each season equally led the show. Daphne and Simon’s story arcs were prominent in their season and well established/explained. Their growth was clear. Same goes for Anthony as a subplot in that season which then became one of the big focuses in his own season. Kate had her own focus and character development.
Colin to me… it wasn’t really hinted to in S1 but there were little scenes here and there in S2 that indicated what his motivations or intentions were to be for S3 (the whole “I travelled the world for months to find my purpose in life, turns out it was across the street from me all along” thing). It’s clear so many of the fandom feel strongly that some of the rake-like decisions the character made in 3.1 were so far from what we know Colin to be - I understand and certainly agree - but it does seem to be related to this purpose thing which I think a lot of us do get at the same time. Violet put it in a great way (without knowing) with the armour analogy and saying he is one of her more sensitive children. This is his most endearing personality trait. Anyways, I’m getting away from the point - to me, the character development for Colin was rushed and not entirely well thought out in these four episodes compared to the last two seasons. Which I think is rather odd! It was only nearer the end of Part 1 when he had his outburst with his douchey friends that we saw the old Colin we know and love but a more ‘realised’ version if that makes sense. So in my head Colin wasn’t strong enough as the male lead. Given the Part 2 teaser though, I have confidence this is about to change and I’m so damn excited for June to get here.
Now then. Miss Coughlan I think you need a deep tissue massage. Because Penelope CARRIED THE WHOLE SHOW ON HER BACK. It is immensely clear to see how our sweet Pen has grown from the very first episode to the… ahem. The carriage scene. Arguably it’s the most powerful character development in the show thus far. Season 2 was my favourite but I could devote a whole new post to how Penelope made me feel in Part 1. The amount of times I was close to tears because of how much her dialogue resonated with me, ooh boy.
PLOT-SUBPLOT BALANCE:
I did notice though that the plot-subplot balance was off kilter in Part 1 and I hope this is rectified (if possible) in Part 2. I think that actually hurt the show more than the writers realise - as I said earlier, Daphne/Simon and Kate/Anthony led their seasons in equal measure, and there was a healthy amount of subplot scenes in each episode which tied off well too. For example Anthony being a manwhore in season 1. Eloise hunting for LW in season 2. Benedict pursuing art. The Featheringtons being… the Featheringtons in both seasons.
If we had had the seeds of this new Mondrich arc being planted in S2, then I’d understand why there are suddenly so many scenes of them in Part 1. It made sense to have the family be in S1 because of their connection to Simon. S2 also made sense because of Cousin Jack, and then the last bit where we see Colin apologise to Will and bring new men to his club. In my opinion they should’ve left them there (no disrespect to the actors, they are great). Other subplots could’ve had much less screen time too but I think that was the biggest.
Onto these other people/subplots. Eloise and Cressida took us all by surprise but Cressida being vulnerable even more so. It seems like Lord Cowper is the total opposite of what Lord Featherington was - overbearing instead of underbearing. Cressida is growing on me (I too am shocked I just said that.) very slowly. If it’s not her dramatically changing outfit choices that become increasingly bizarre showcasing the desperate of the Cowpers to marry her off, it’s her being vulnerable to Eloise when we’ve all been used to disliking her.
Benedict having sex with hot women we’ve seen before, I’m not entirely sure why we needed to see it again (though I’m not entiiiiirely complaining…) I just hope and wish it was more fruitful in the sense that we saw Anthony want to stop being a rake at the end of season 1 so it would’ve been better to see that sort of change in Benedict here. But there’s still hope for that to transpire in Part 2, particularly given the little book knowledge I know of Benedict’s romantic life and what we are to expect in his season and hope for in 3.2.
Having said that, given it’s most likely S4 will focus on Benedict, it would’ve so much been better if they gave Francesca’s big subplot in Part 1 to Benedict. Especially if we are to follow the pattern we’ve had so far of the following season’s main Bridgerton lead leading the main subplot of the season before (Anthony being a broody rake, Colin having an existential crisis) I love the fuck out of Francesca story arc and love John - I was kicking my feet and giggling at the silence on the sofa scene and the musical notes - but we should’ve been having this stuff in S4, not 3. It makes no sense to me.
Portia/Philippa/Prudence as a subplot made sense for me because of their storyline in seasons 1 and 2, it only makes sense of it to carry on (and remain fucking hysterical). Nothing more to say, the comedy just writes itself and there’s a healthy amount of time dedicated to their ongoing storyline.
The imbalance has impacted Colin’s development as an individual and Polin as a developing couple/relationship. There could’ve been so much more longing, jealousy, accidental touches, hot dreams, close encounters, desire, angst, and everything in between. Basically, there could’ve been time to put a regency romantic spin on what is essentially the foundations of your classic Hallmark movie.
EVERYTHING ELSE:
The dialogue continues to impress - particularly when Lord Cowper says “Stay away from the Bridgerton girl”, it tells us how the Bridgerton family is slowly but surely becoming a poisonous or risky household to be associated with, given their scandals every other week. Or it could be specifically linked to Eloise’s “fraternising with political radicals” thing and not wanting to be associated with that in case it damages Cressida’s dwindling marriage prospects and the Cowpers’ reputation.
Ruth Gemmell was quietly brilliant in just four episodes. She always was but this was another level. I’m in awe of how she’s been quietly observant of Colin and Francesca falling in love but wanting to deny it because of society or whatever else, and gently guiding them to their heart’s desires. (I so want Marcus to tend her garden oh my goDDDDD)
I liked that Lady Whistledown was even more in the spotlight in terms of dialogue. I mean we expected this anyway for obvious reasons, but I loved how we really SAW and understood what Pen/LW was saying.
A little voice in my head wants to go through each episode and analyse it in more detail because there’s just so much depth to take in.
But anyways, those are my initial thoughts! I’d love to see what you guys think and discuss. J
une needs to get here way faster… tick tock, tick tock.

2024.05.17 22:25 benheatony Date discrepancy with Valhalla nursing home

An interesting detail I noticed with the Valhalla nursing home. On the front of the house above the door where you first enter, it says 1887 in large letters. Presumably the year the house was made. However, upon entering and reading the plaque on the wall from Barry, he claims the house was built for Tom Zane in 1965. Pat Maine also claims the house is very old when you walk into his room, talking about how they built the ww2 (presumably) bunker there because of the house. These details makes no sense if the house was built in 1965, in which case Pat would be older than the house and it wouldn't exist during ww2.
The implication here is that the house always existed but was retconned to have belonged to Tom the filmmaker by whoever is rewriting Tom's history.
Only thing I'm wondering is, how does this reconcile with the guy who doesn't ever remember the house existing? Maybe it existed somewhere else and alan moved it? Maybe he's just misremembering things? Can anyone help me out with this as I'm a little stuck

2024.05.17 22:24 Mega_Weedle Hayate Otsu Xsoft or zero soft?

Hello!
I am currently looking to buy a pad replacing my GP4 pad. I want something faster but split between the Otsu and zero. I’m not sure about the softness as the only pads I’ve tried is qck and GP4, but from reading it seems people like the xsoft otsu most (and I’ve heard someone say the xsoft otsu is close to zero soft in terms of softness, no idea how true that is)
As for games I mainly play valorant and apex. 0.28 sens and 800dpi in valorant. My mouse is GPX with tiger arc feet.
Which would you recommend? I want to buy the new XXL version.

2024.05.17 22:24 immoralObject Debunking and discussing some popular post-Act 7 Fanon Meta.

IF ACT 7 WAS SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT AN ESCAPE FROM THE STORY, WHY WAS CALIBORN OVERLAYED WITH JOHN AT THE END?
IF THE MASTERPIECE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AN EPILOGUE CLIFFHANGER, WHY IS IT UTTERLY SELF-EXPLANATORY?
IF JOHN'S POWERS WERE SUPPOSEDLY ABLE TO ALTER CANON, WHY WAS THEIR MAIN USE CORRECTING A DOOMED TIMELINE INTO ONE WHERE THE MASTERPIECE WAS VIABLE BECAUSE THE KIDS WEREN'T DEAD?
During early Act 6, Hussie wrote the ending of Homestuck, which was never meant to be followed up on in the Epilogues, and the story very much shoots down the popular post-Act 7 Fanon idea that the Masterpiece is something the Kids can or do avoid or escape. Hussie's philosophy means he wanted the Kids to die there rather than be immortal, because he is one of those artists who thinks burning out is better than fading away, and the story supports this.

2024.05.17 22:22 MeowRed1 Laptop suggestion - Budget around 30k INR

Looking for a laptop primarily for my spouse as a personal laptop for online classes and Some programming. Wouldn't mind occasional gaming of older titles like GTA5.
Budget: Approx 30k INR Purchase Location: India or UAE
Came across the below titled lappy for approx 1200 AED (approx 28k inr): 'Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Laptop, 17.3" FHD IPS Display, AMD Ryzen 5 5625U Processor (Beats i7-1255U), Wi-Fi 6, Fingerprint Reader, Long Battery Life, Windows 11 (16GB RAM 1TB PCIe SSD)'
Haven't come across anything else similar spec at this price. My main 2 concerns with this are: 1. Display is IPS, will it be bad to look at? 2. Graphic card size is only 1GB. Should I consider higher size?
Had purchased 'Lenovo IdeaPad 1 with 15.6" FHD display, AMD Ryzen 5-7520U,8GB RAM,512GB SSD, Integrated AMD Radeon™ 610M Graphics, Windows 11 - [82VG00DNAX]' 6 months back for approx 1400 AED. Now the price Increased to 1799 AED. This had 6GB graphics.
RAM and SSD is double in IP3 compared to IP1. Processor (slightly), Graphics and display seems to be better in IP1.
Should I be considering IdeaPad1 at an Increased price and above budget? Or is IdeaPad3 a better package overall? Or should I consider something else altogether?
Appreciate any thoughts, inputs, suggestions.

2024.05.17 22:22 Gummay Aikijujutsu Dojo with Background in Aikido in Los Angeles, CA - Looking for Students

Hi everyone! I felt compelled to share a message in hopes of supporting my Sensei's efforts to attract new members to our dojo situated in the heart of Los Angeles.
I started learning Aikijujutsu under the guidance of Destrie Roy Sensei for the last year and a half. With a teaching legacy spanning over two decades in LA, he teaches Aikijujutsu, stemming from the Kodokai lineage.
Currently, our dojo is home to a select group of students. Even though Sensei Destrie has tried hard to bring more people to our group, we've had a tough time getting more members.
Nonetheless, I'm reaching out to anyone nearby who's interested in learning from Destrie Sensei and training with me. Sensei Destrie isn't just an exceptional instructor within the Aikido and Aikijujutsu circles; he's a 4th Dan in AJJ, with a rich background in a variety of martial arts disciplines for those curious.
If you're interested or know someone in Los Angeles who might be, please get in touch for more details and help spread the word within the Aikido community. Sending my best to all fellow Aikido enthusiasts.
P.S. I just saw another post like this and thought it would be a good idea to reach out. Thanks again!

2024.05.17 22:19 Hot-Crow3159 I 22M neglected to tell my wife 21F about all of my ex lovers.

I 22M and married to my High school Sweetheart 21F. We dated through high-school but broke up briefly. In that time she dated other people and so did I. When we got back together we had an innocent conversation about the time we spent apart. We didn’t directly ask each other how many people we had each been with or want details but we shared what we were comfortable sharing at the time. The problem is, I lied. I incorrectly told her that I had only had “relationships” with 2 people. 1 was simply text convos that got heavy although we never met in person and the other I saw frequently and we had sex once. I neglected to tell her about one other female I had a one night fling with. This female was a friend from high school. We were never best friends back in school but we had a same class here and there and we hung around the same people. At the time we dated my wife once thought this friend might have a crush on me but I told her I didn’t think she did since we only ever interacted while at school/ in class. I might’ve been wrong. A little after me and my wife, (gf at the time) broke up, this friend reached out and we talked over text. At the time I was hurt, and terribly I was looking for a rebound. This friend ended up coming over and we had a one night stand. It was fine, no feelings attached and I didn’t think much of it. However when the friend texted me soon after to see me again I felt bad and said I wasn’t sure if it was a good idea because I wasn’t completely over my gf. I felt TERRIBLE. This girl was once a friend and I felt like I had taken advantage of the fact she may have had feelings. I had a lot of guilt and shame about this situation and I chose to not tell my wife. I don’t think about this often but from time to time this situation does pop in my head and I think about confessing to my wife. But now it’s been so long that I know for sure she’d be upset with me keeping it from her. I’m not sure what to do, but I don’t see myself telling her and taking a chance on her being upset with me. I’m not looking for advice but I’d gladly take any of y’all have it.

2024.05.17 22:18 Calm_Yogurt7215 Feedback Needed: New App Idea for Coffee Enthusiasts - Store and Optimize Your Coffee Grinding Settings!

Hello productivity community!
I'm a new coffee enthusiast and a solo app developer working on an app idea that I believe could benefit many of us who are passionate about making the perfect cup of coffee. I'd love to get your feedback and insights on this concept.
The Idea: Coffee Grinding Companion App
As a newcomer to the coffee world, I’ve found that there’s a lot to learn about achieving the perfect grind and brew. This app aims to help coffee lovers, both new and experienced, store and optimize their coffee grinding settings. Here are the main features I'm focusing on for the initial version:
  1. Bean Profiles: Store detailed information about different coffee beans you use, including roast date, origin, and flavour notes.
  2. Grinder Settings: Save and recall your preferred grinder settings for various brewing methods (e.g., espresso, pour-over, French press).
  3. Brew Methods: Customize and store settings for different brewing methods to achieve the best possible grind size for each type.
  4. Notes and Ratings: Add tasting notes and rate your brews to refine your grinding and brewing process over time.
Why I Need Your Feedback:
  1. Interest: Would you find an app like this useful for your coffee brewing process?
  2. Features: Are there any additional features you’d love to see included in future updates?
  3. Usability: What are some pain points you’ve experienced with similar apps or tools that I should avoid?
  4. Design: What type of user interface would you prefer for an app like this (e.g., simple and clean, detailed and informative)?
Next Steps:
I’m in the early stages of development and plan to create a beta version soon. While the initial version will focus on core features, I’m considering adding educational content about grind sizes and brewing techniques in future updates based on user interest. Your feedback will be invaluable in shaping the app. If you’re interested in testing the app when it’s ready, please let me know!
Thank you for your time and insights!
Happy brewing, Calm_Yogurt7215

2024.05.17 22:18 Yedge75 My thoughts on the map (and how to fix its issues)

I've seen a lot of positive and negative discussion on the new map so I just wanted to drop my thoughts here. Let me know what you think!
The good:
The bad:
How to fix:
Overall thoughts:
I overall love the map, and prefer it to the new one but the issues of it can't be ignored and should be addressed as soon as possible
Tl:dr - The atmosphere and idea of the new map is immaculate but it is slower than the old one, and the torch lighting system is inferior. This can be fixed by adding 'Go' buttons on the side bar, and adding more torch icons.

2024.05.17 22:17 CadeBW Ranking the Finale Legs (Part 1)

Here's a post I've been meaning to do for a while, and since TAR36 just came to an end it's the perfect opportunity! After much consideration and rewatching, here are my rankings of Amazing Race finales from worst to best. The post would have been too long so I'm splitting it into two parts.
36th place: The Amazing Race 28
It’s not by a large margin, but my pick for season with the weakest finale would have to be the Social Media Edition, in my opinion one of the weakest seasons in general. I don’t even mind the casting gimmick that much, I just think the season is pretty boring and unmemorable. (Not to mention it is extremely light on travel elements, even by modern TAR standards.) The final leg is no exception. There is a little bit of intrigue at the start with Tyler & Korey struggling with the heights task and falling out of contention, but after that virtually nothing of interest happens for the rest of the episode. Dana & Matt (a relatively uninteresting team) secure a significant lead fairly early on and easily cruise to the finish line through a series of dull tasks, including one of the show’s weakest final memory challenges. All of these bottom finales are kind of interchangeable, but this is probably the one I’m least inspired to ever rewatch.
35th place: The Amazing Race 32
This finale suffers a lot of the same issues as TAR28, but at least this one has a lively Mardi Gras aesthetic in a unique location. On paper this could have been an interesting leg but unfortunately it just played out badly, with one team getting taxi-screwed right from the beginning and another securing a massive lead from a luck-based challenge. Similar to Dana & Matt, Will & James easily trivialize every obstacle after the first Roadblock creating an unsatisfying ending to a mostly unsatisfying season. While luck is an integral and inherent part of The Amazing Race, I do have to question the decision to include a luck-based task in the final leg; it almost never produces satisfying results. TARAUS1’s finale is by far the worst example of this, and it’s lucky I’m only ranking the U.S. seasons…
34th place: The Amazing Race 24
Whenever I see people discuss bad Amazing Race finales this one always seems to come up first, and I think its reputation is deserved. But it’s funny because it seems like the producers poured half of the season’s budget into this leg (David Copperfield, task at the Mirage, helicopter skydive) and everybody ended up hating it anyway. It’s just a poorly designed leg that feels very superficial— Flashy but having very little substance. (Perhaps the producers were attempting to satirize Las Vegas itself? Only kidding…) Surprisingly easy tasks for a supposed all-star season and while skydiving directly into the finish line was a new idea, I personally really disliked it; we all knew the race was over the moment Connor & Dave read the clue for the Roadblock. I think if the leg had a proper final challenge like a memory task beforehand this would have been a lot easier to forgive though.
33rd place: The Amazing Race 36
I don’t think there’s recency bias in calling this most recent finale one of the weakest. I’ve watched the leg twice now and both times I thought to myself “Nothing really happened in this episode.” Let’s start with the good first: It’s a self-drive leg, which gave us one of the episode’s few memorable moments in the form of Juan & Shane driving to the wrong state. Meanwhile, Philadelphia was a great and long overdue final destination and I enjoyed seeing historic sites like the Betsy Ross House and the steps of the PMoA. But these facts alone cannot carry this lackluster episode which was both predictable and filled with forgettable tasks. Much like TAR32, instead of a final memory challenge we got a final puzzle, and once again it’s hard to assess how tough this task really was because the leading team managed to start and finish it before any of the others even arrived. It’s an episode that’s devoid of substance.
32nd place: The Amazing Race 16
A problem with this leg and many of the others in this section of the ranking is that they just don’t feel like final legs. It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what these legs are lacking but there is a je ne sais quoi that makes a thrilling final episode and these legs just don’t have it. There are a couple of things here I like such as the riddle at the beginning and the VR task is kind of neat, but overall this is just an extremely bland finale. It also concludes with a laughably easy final memory challenge, definitely my pick for worst in the series. This would have been okay in one of the very early seasons where the focus was entirely on travel instead of tasks, but TAR16 is decidedly not one of those seasons. How did we go from TAR12’s epic logic puzzle and TAR13’s field of Clue Boxes to “can you remember what order the teams were eliminated?” We do get Carol and Brandy malding at the finish line which I find very funny, but other than it’s a subpar ending to a subpar season.
31st place: The Amazing Race 10
It makes me sad that I have to rank this finale so low because on paper, it does a lot of things I like. I’ll tell you right now that I prefer the original finale format that includes a stopover location and teams booking their own flights compared to the TAR12+ approach of equalizing all of the teams and spending the finale in a single city. It probably wouldn’t work in the modern day and I know many people like the new format better anyway, but different strokes for different folks I guess. The element of travel has always been my favorite part of the show and I love the sense of grandeur of featuring multiple flights in the same leg. It really makes the finale feel like an epic last hurrah. Most seasons choose a non-contiguous U.S. locale for the stopover city but TAR10 is one of only two seasons to use this as an opportunity to add another country to the route, in this case France. The leg also begins with a visit to the awe-inspiring Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. That’s all really neat but unfortunately this leg is just a bore, there’s no way around it. I think the biggest issue here is like TAR16, this just doesn’t feel like a final leg, it feels like a mostly dull Paris leg that could have happened in episode 2. This season also has a pretty bland final 3 that certainly isn’t doing the episode any favors. The last challenge of the season is a very boring, low-stakes Detour before everyone ends up on the same flight to NYC where just two route markers are waiting before the finish line. In most old school seasons this final sequence of clues is extremely exciting and stressful to watch but for whatever reason it just doesn’t deliver here at all. There is a little bit of airport drama which is nice, but overall it’s just not a satisfying ending to the season.
30th place: The Amazing Race 22
This leg begins with a ferry and train ride to London for an Additional Route Information (ARI) at an English pub. It gives the start of the episode a somewhat old school feel which I appreciate, even though it was basically pointless since teams had to travel together on a pre-booked flight back to the U.S. Anyway, D.C. is a super awesome finale location and we visit some pretty historic sites in this episode like the Lincoln Memorial and George Washington’s home. There’s also a Switchback to the Family Edition which was unexpected but another detail I found strangely charming. But overall, it’s just a boring episode with a dull final 3 taking on mostly dull tasks, including another anticlimactic final memory challenge. The highlight of the episode is obviously the “picture with Barack Obama” fake-out along with Max’s cringey confessionals about being too much of a Republican to meet Obama, but aside from that there’s just not much going on in this finale.
29th place: The Amazing Race 17
It’s always a shame when an otherwise great season has a dull finale, but TAR17 is a textbook example of this phenomenon. For starters it’s just a very short leg— No extra route markers and only 3 tasks, the first being a linear fear of heights challenge and the third being a memory challenge that’s not easy, but definitely not one of the series’ hardest either. Still, this game show-themed challenge deserves credit for being one of the series’ most creative final memory challenges, and of course I love the Bob Eubanks cameo. We also get a satisfying result in Nat & Kat becoming the first F/F team to win the race, but overall it’s a finale that really feels like it’s missing something.
28th place: The Amazing Race 23
Another leg that just feels oddly dull for being a finale episode. I wouldn’t say there’s anything inherently bad about this leg, but there’s not much that jumps out about it either. That kind of sums up TAR23 as a whole, doesn’t it? Juneau was a pretty cool and unexpected final city, and to this day it’s the only time we’ve seen Alaska in HD on The Amazing Race. The bush plane Roadblock was very good— challenging and creative. Not a lot to say about the middle of the episode; we get scenic helicopter rides, kayaking, ice climbing— basically exactly what you’d expect from an Amazing Race leg set in Alaska. The totem pole currency memory challenge was an interesting idea but I think the teams got through it too easily for it to make a lasting impact. The season ends with a Jason & Amy win, who seem like good people but let’s be honest here, they’re probably the most forgettable winning team in the series; I wouldn’t exactly call it a satisfying ending.
27th place: The Amazing Race 15
This is certainly better than TAR24’s Last Vegas leg but it’s still nothing special. We of course can’t talk about TAR15’s finale without talking about pokergate. I think it’s pretty common knowledge at this point that Brian & Ericka allegedly finished the final counting challenge before Meghan & Cheyne but were mistakenly ruled against by the task judge, likely costing them the win. Your mileage is going to vary on how much this scandal dampens your enjoyment of the episode, but I’d be lying if I said finding this out for the first time didn’t significantly sour my opinion on the leg. It makes it a hard one to rank because I can’t think of any other finale where my overall feelings were affected so much by what is essentially behind-the-scenes information. Aside from that, the tasks are mostly just okay, with the Cirque du Soleil one being my favorite. There are a few other charming little additions to the leg like the Elvis impersonator and the Wayne Newton cameo that also give it a boost.
26th place: The Amazing Race 11
This is one of my favorite seasons of all time so it really pains me to have to rank this so low, but as TAR17 demonstrated, a great season is not guaranteed to have a great final leg. This is the last season to use the original finale format and unfortunately, it goes out on a bit of a whimper. Hawaii is once again chosen as the stopover location and the episode starts off with some really fun airport drama as Charla and Mirna discover during a layover that the other teams are on a faster flight and have to do some last minute scrambling to switch flights. Now listen, any episode that features both Dustin & Kandice and Charla & Mirna is guaranteed to be at least mildly entertaining, but I can’t sit here and pretend the Hawaii portion of the episode is all that great. After a few quick tasks all of the teams end up on the same flight to final destination San Francisco. Unlike TAR10, we actually do get a final challenge, but unfortunately it ends in anticlimax. On paper this “how well do you know your partner?” task sounds like it could have been great but it’s just way too simple and there’s also a bizarre rule where if you can’t finish within 10 minutes you are just given the next clue for free, making the whole thing feel very low stakes. (Check out TARAUS2 for a much better execution of this challenge!) And yeah, the outcome of this leg is also disappointing. I’m sure very few of us were rooting for Eric & Danielle to come out on top, but at a certain point we as fans just have to accept that The Amazing Race is obviously cursed and there is some supernatural force out causing the least interesting team in the final 3 to win 90% of seasons.
25th place: The Amazing Race 25
Unfortunately I have to begin by talking about the surprise non-elimination on Leg 11, which is one of my least favorite twists the show has ever done. It really felt like the producers thought a cheap shock was more important than the integrity of the race. Leg 11 was also branded as a “No-Rest Leg” so the last place finishers didn’t even have to complete a Speed Bump. Even worse, Leg 10 was a Non-Elimination too so the entire Philippines portion of this season was inevitably pointless. This would all be a lot easier to stomach if it didn’t really affect the outcome of the season, but just our luck, Amy & Maya end up winning. This makes the finale an awkward viewing experience for me because I love Amy & Maya; I was rooting for them the whole season, and yet I can’t say I’m happy that they won. (If you’re familiar with Survivor, to me this is TAR’s version of the Heroes vs Healers vs Hustlers finale.) As part of the twist this leg also features a midpoint elimination which I really hate. Still, the episode has a fair bit going for it. This is the first season in the series to feature self-driving in the final destination city which is awesome, and the final memory challenge is very tough; I will say, I think the editors dropped the ball in finding an engaging way to present the challenge and properly conveying its difficulty. Overall a mixed leg that would definitely rank much higher without the twist.
24th place: The Amazing Race 26
This season uses the exact same twist from TAR25 but it’s a little better this time because it’s no longer unprecedented (but still bad) and more importantly, the team that gets saved on Leg 11 does not win, they get taken out at the midpoint elimination. Like the entire season, most of the intrigue of this episode is driven by Hayley & Blair. Their downfall in this leg is sad to watch but it’s electric television. The first major mistake occurs at the second Roadblock when Hayley incorrectly identifies what she thinks are race flags sending their team astray. As they inevitably fail to find the next clue, they become increasingly agitated with each other and then get into another argument about whether or not Hayley should go back and try again. I really enjoy all of this content, but aside from that the tasks in this episode aren’t that interesting. The final memory challenge is also mediocre, incorporating selfies the teams were forced to take throughout the race, and once again, the season culminates in a forgettable team winning.
23rd place: The Amazing Race 19
Now we’re starting to get into legs that I actually think are fairly decent episodes, they just happened to be outclassed by a lot of finales that are even better. TAR19’s takes place in a unique final city, Atlanta, and there are a number of things I enjoy about the episode. We get one of the most notable finale disaster performances of all time as Marcus continuously fails to land the plane at the flight simulation Roadblock. The leg contains a fair amount of cryptic clues like the riddle teams have to solve to find Turner Field as well as Margeret Mitchell’s former residence being called “The Dump.” The latter leads to another comical mishap as Jeremy & Sandy get led to a random department store that is coincidentally also named The Dump and waste a bunch of time aimlessly wandering through lanes of furniture. But due to these costly mistakes plaguing the other teams, there’s not a lot of suspense as Ernie & Cindy steadily work their way to the finish line. Like TAR17 there are only 3 real tasks in this leg, and the final memory challenge is a letdown. Overall this episode has fun moments but there are many other finales that have more to offer.
22nd place: The Amazing Race 18
This one takes place in Florida, and unlike most modern finales it actually covers a fair bit of distance as teams begin in Miami and end up over 2 hours away in Pigeon Key. The episode just isn’t that exciting though. It begins with two Roadblocks which are both fairly forgettable, and rather than a final memory challenge we get an attention-to-detail task in which teams have to decorate a trailer according to an example. I actually think this is a pretty entertaining task and this part of the episode is actually quite exciting as all the teams are neck and neck. The teams are also getting battered by wind during this task which makes it much better. Still, I feel like this episode would rank much higher if there was just one more task after this, ideally a final memory challenge. There is a bit of ARI in the middle of the leg which I appreciate, for example walking across the ocean to get to Horseshoe Island is pretty cool. All things considered, I think this is a fair spot for TAR18.
21st place: The Amazing Race 35
The Amazing Race’s first season with 90 minute episodes has a pretty decent final episode. Like other recent finales it’s a self-drive leg which gives it major bonus points right from the get-go, and it also twists the usual finale format by implementing a Scramble. I actually thought the Scramble worked pretty well here, allowing teams to tackle the episode’s three middle tasks in whichever order they wanted, allowing for some strategic decision-making. In addition to the self-driving there are a total of 5 different tasks in this leg which is a very nice amount. Still, this is kind of a middling finale for me because I don’t feel like anything that memorable happens during it. The tasks range from pretty good to just okay, with the final memory challenge being particularly forgettable. Overall it’s a well-designed leg that for whatever reason lacks the level of excitement I expect out of a finale.
20th place: The Amazing Race 29
TAR29’s final leg is a pretty good ending to an even better season. Similar to TAR35, there are a lot of things I like about this episode but I do feel that for whatever reason it’s just missing its flair. It starts off with a task at the racetrack in Joliet which drags on for a while and does nothing for me, but then teams have to visit a whole bunch of different locations in Chicago which I really enjoy. First they have to find a clue at the subway cleverly hidden with an employee instead of a traditional clue box, and then they have to solve some riddles to locate three sites containing clues that reveal a fourth location when combined. When they finally arrive, they’re met with even more Route Info sending them to a place to buy hotdogs which they must bring to a final location, Wrigley Field. The whole middle portion of this episode feels kind of old school in the sense that there are no real tasks, it’s just a bunch of navigation and problem solving. Really good stuff in my opinion. The final memory challenge at Wrigley Field is pretty neat too, probably one of the most impressive in terms of scope and location, although it’s not really that exciting either. That’s mostly because Brooke & Scott secure such a big lead that they basically finish the entire challenge before either of the other teams even show up. Not the leg’s fault, just the way things played out. I definitely think with a more interesting final 3 and a closer competition this could have gone down as one of the great Amazing Race finales.
19th place: The Amazing Race 8
The Family Edition comes to a solid close with a leg that primarily takes place in Toronto before taking a boat down the Niagara River into Upstate New York for a nail-biter of a final Roadblock. The leg is a bit short though, in fact only about 30 minutes in episode time; it’s the second half of a Superleg so it makes sense in the context of the season, but when comparing it to other standalone finale episodes this is a minor knock against it. The Detour is fairly average and doesn’t really give “final leg” at all, but everything afterward is great. The ride across the river is a super fun scene with waves splashing everywhere making for a high energy segment that perfectly builds up to the final challenge: Completing a jigsaw puzzle of North America, putting a nice thematic bow on the season. The Linz family winning was a predictable and not that exciting result but overall, this was a pretty enjoyable finale episode for the season.
I'll try to get the second half up sometime next week. Let me know what you think about these first 18 finales and where they are placed! I welcome strong opinions.
