After they collaborated with Chess. com I think It'd be cool if they collaborated with other popular mobile games like Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies. Also they have so much potential if they collaborated with Lego.

2024.05.02 17:25 boopboopadoopity The Ultimate Reference/Context Guide to Bye Bye Birdie (Part 1)

So I'm in Bye Bye Birdie for the first time. There are SO many references that I feel like I had to do research to figure out. I can't believe how much I miss of the references and context. The only place I found these compiled was this text-based personal website last dated 16 years ago, and even then it's only a few (though really key ones!) and some of them don't show up in my 2024 copy - I wonder if they were pared down. Regardless, figured I'd make a context and reference list based on the copy I have!
I can't fit it all in one post, I exceed the text limit, so we'll start with Act 1 with general context stuff and the second post will be Act 2 only :)

Context

How Dated Was the Musical When Released?
Bye Bye Birdie is famously a direct reference to Elvis Presley getting drafted in 1957 and the stir it caused. But note the musical was written and published in 1958, and went on Broadway in 1960. It's like if a musical went on Broadway this year (2024) about a blonde-haired pop star named Tay-lee Quick (instead of Taylor Swift) who performed a world tour, but didn't initially book any dates in Canada, causing a massive outcry, leading to several Canadian officials and the president "Justice Troodoo" to beg her to stop there and... something else silly happens involving her, then she gets punched by a jealous girlfriend, and silliness ensues.
That is how on-the-nose this musical really is. There are many references to what would have been VERY modern events in this musical. For that reason, I'll try to give some equivalences of how the references in the musical would sound if it was written today.
Elvis' Perception in America
This extensive Wikipedia article does a great job of saying in many words that Elvis was insanely influential and deeply controversial. 1956 was a major year of stardom for Elvis -
Phone Calls
Phones are obviously a huge part of this musical! Wanted to combine all the phone references here.
Kim's Phone Number: Kim's number is, according to Rosie in Act 1, Scene 1, "Capitol 7 - 8820". In the 50s, the previous system which used 6-digit phone numbers started to be replaced by one that used an "exchange prefix" and 5 digits after. (Source) (Source) At the time, phone numbers that didn't connect to anyone were given out for shows like I Love Lucy, so that may be what happened here as well, though I don't know.
One Phone Line to Share: Kim's mother asks her to get off the phone early in the play so she can take a phone call. For a long time before cell phones, each home had a "home number" and you couldn't use it at the same time. This is why Kim's mother is asking her to finish up her call so she can call someone and eventually get a phone call as well.
Picking Kim's Number: Rosie uses a rolodex she randomly flips through to pick Kim - which would have been very standard in the 1950s.
The Operator Trying to Get Through: Calls were pushed through using real people, usually women, plugging lines into a "switchboard" to connect them manually. So when Kim's mom says the operator has been trying to get through for nearly three quarters of an hour, she's been trying to not get a busy signal when manually connecting the lines for 45 minutes! That's dedication!
Mr. MacAfee Frustrated with Long Distance Calls: Cost of international calls at this time was per-minute - so calls to New York, Chicago, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Hong Kong would have cost a pretty penny - over $100 for the first 3 minutes in a similar estimation! It sounds like Conrad and Albert didn't really offer to cover this cost, so you can see why Mr. MacAfee is so cross.
Getting Pinned/Going Steady
"Going steady" referred to, in short, being exclusive with someone. "As Time reported in 1957, "Boys and girls who go steady dance together exclusively (cutting in is frowned upon), sip their sodas, absorb their double features and spin their platters in each other's company or not at all. Steady-going girls indicate their unavailability in various ways, [like] the old-fashioned fraternity pins." (Source) It's mentioned in other sources that this could also be school pins, or rings. Something to show your commitment. One of the heads of my production described it like a "promise ring". It's definitely a firmer promise and commitment then just going out with someone, but not quite an engagement.
However, why, if this is such a sweet gesture of romantic love and commitment, would everyone be freaking out about it, and Kim's parents potentially not reacting well to "getting pinned" or "going steady"? (Kim has a line where she exclaims to her mother that she thinks her dad took the announcement "awfully well"). Truth be told, going steady in high school was actually highly discouraged by adults and especially church at the time. This article/Reddit thread sheds some light. I'll copy the first comment here by u/Gfrisse1. "It was felt that going steady would encourage the relationship to develop into one of physical intimacy, something parents wished to avoid. On the other hand, dating a wider, more diverse number of individuals would give them the experience of being exposed to a greater number of character and personality types, thereby helping to hone their mate-selection skills for later on. In the meantime, the short-term relationships were not expected to get much beyond the first- or second-date stage of intimacy. (One-night-stands, or casual hook-ups were not as common-place as they are today.)"
Cigarettes/Age
There are many references to smoking, cigarettes, and how old you should be in this play. It's complicated, but just know that in the 1950s, EVERYONE smoked. Everywhere. In the early 1950s, though, the first studies were coming out with the link to lung cancer, and tobacco companies used every trick in the book to try to squash that. It's genuinely fascinating (and terrifying) how much money and strategy was poured into this misinformation campaign. Read about it here. Anyway, what this means is in the late 1950s, it's not like most were giving up smoking, but because tobacco companies had started more explicitly advertising to minors, several states were in debate about the smoking age. It varied from 21 to 16, but just know that Kim was not considered old enough to be doing it. (Source.)) However, MANY minors did. Think of it like underaged drinking today as the best analogy. There's some specific cigarette references that will pop up in specific scenes, but just know that's the standard.
Patriotism
Fresh(ish) off of the victory of World War II, which was filled with MASSIVE pushes for increased American patriotism (to the degree that Disney even got in on it!), love for the USA was very culturally acceptable and a way to show you were a good person! It was easy to rally around (especially if you ignored the growing civil rights movement of Black people trying to achieve equality, which many white people at the time were very happy to do until they could no longer ignore it - obviously, not touched on in this musical, but significant. Several racist references have been either removed or are requested to be removed by current versions.) But that's why we hear so many classic American anthems in this play!

References by Order of Appearance (Act 1)

Almaelou Music Corporation
This is the end of Almaelou Music Corporation!
Almaelou may very well be a parody of Aldon Music, which would fit due to its major success being in the late 50s, and it's influence in music written for teen girls at the time.
Arpege
Rosie: A five-dollar raise in 1954 and a bottle of Arpege last Christmas.
Arpege is a perfume that was released in 1927 and remained the best-selling perfume of well-loved fashion line Levine for decades. (Source) Albert is quoting a commercial tagline tied to the perfume that was very well-known at the time. It continued to be used in commercials for many years. (Commercial example). It was possible to see 1/2 oz bottles at the time (Source), but Albert gave her a laughably small amount at 1/16 of an ounce. You can still buy this perfume today!
A five-dollar raise in 1954. Secretaries in metropolitan areas could earn around $75 a week. (Source) A five-dollar raise bringing that to $80 a week would, ironically, be about a 1/16 increase in earnings. Also, Rosie is pointing out in an earlier line she has put in 90 hour weeks and hasn't gotten a raise in four years.
Modern example:
Rosie: My last raise was four years ago and you got me that jewelry from Kay Jewelers once
Albert: "Every Kiss Begins with Kay", Rosie. Rosie: Not when that "Kay" is a .25 karat discontinued friendship ring!
Music Business Bum Vs. English Teacher
This is related to the prestige of being an English teacher who is helping people learn a scholarly subject vs. the "seedy" music industry.
Ugga Bugga Boo
"When you wrote Conrad's last hit 'Ugga Bugga Boo' then I knew this was it/You were thru with English forever."
Ugga Bugga Boo is a real song released 1947. It's a comedy song, written by voice acting legend and radio host Mel Blanc (voice of Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, and many others) for his comedy radio show. I do wonder if Elvis had a song in this vein, as the Jetsons did a similar parody with an Elvis expy a few years later, but I couldn't find one.
Geoffrey ChauceWilliam Morris
"It was goodbye, Geoffrey ChauceHello, William Morris"
Geoffrey Chaucer is considered one of the greatest English writers, specifically poets, of all time. Born in the 1400s.
As for William Morris, this could be two references, possibly combining.
William Morris Agency was an incredibly famous music talent agency that would have likely been known by some audience members in the 1950s. They've represented tons of major talent. This is what I believe is the most likely reference given the song context.
However William Morris was a man also considered a legendary poet during his life, born in the 1830s. However, he also made wallpapers and textiles. After his passing, he became infinitely more famous in the public eye for his wallpaper designs than he did for his poetry. This is could be a dig at that Alfred could be great in the English world, but like Morris, his legacy will be for something "silly" instead. (Important to note that his works, both art and poetry, had great impact - and this may just be a coincidence reference, I don't know)
Bliss! Kiss! That rhymes! I wonder if anyone's ever used it before?
Many people had and have, this is a joke of him being unaware of current trends. Dean Martin had a #1 song in 1955 with this very rhyme for instance that audiences may have remembered at the time.
Dentifrice
Albert: Oh one last kiss; it gives so much bliss... what is your dentifrice! No, that's too clinical...
Basically, toothpaste. Which is, kind of, related to kissing? It could actually be a paste or powder for cleaning the teeth, though in the 50s it wouldn't have been the default way to refer to what you used it seems from my research, like in this commercial. May be a way to show off that Albert really does have an excellent English teacher level vocabulary!
A modern example may be "do you use fluoride? No, that's too clinical..."
"What's the story? Morning glory?"
This is most likely a reference to the song "What's Your Story, Morning Glory?" by jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald released in 1958, another topical reference. It's very possible Helen, the teen who says this line, would be aware of the song because Ella Fitzgerald in 1956 had released her "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book" album, her attempt to pull in a non-jazz audience. (Source on Ella's Discography)
"What's the tale, nightingale" is most likely an original line to match the "Morning glory" one, same with the hummingbird line.
"Go to a fancy night club and stay out after ten!"
A nightclub was different from what we think of today. Think tables and chairs, late night musical performances (not the NSFW kind), and in some of the most famous like the Copacabana night club, rubbing elbows with the rich and famous. And drinking, of course! Source on Nightclub Definition
18 in World War II
Mr. MacAfee: I am not an old man! I was 18 in World War II.
This is one that may get a bit better with time. WWII ended in 1945, but the play is in 1958 at the earliest. It's better to demonstrate with a modern example written for 2024. "I am not an old man! I was 18 when Facebook first launched." Not quite the same impact as WWII, but the timeline is similar. Essentially this is not a flex and just shows he definitely is old to a teenager.
No Smoking 'Till You're 14
Albert: Remember the Conrad Birdie Creed dear. No smoking till you're fourteen.
As mentioned in my blurb above, 14 was too young to smoke. A modern version may say "No drinking 'till you're 16" or something. Similar to the line "and stay out of the bar!" later on.
"Go down to Track 12"
Albert: Why don't you girls go down to Track 12 and I'll talk to her.
This is one of the many train tracks that must have run through this station. This station is located in New York, so it would make sense for there to be at least 12.
Wear your rubbers
"Keep your money in your inside pocket. Wear your rubbers. And eat a hot lunch..."
While "rubber" as slang for a condom definitely did exist in the 1950s, I believe it's far more likely Mae is referring to overshoes due to the context, though to be fair, I can't find a source to this being "official slang" besides casual mention in posts like these. Something tells me Mae is not randomly mentioning condoms lol.
A Plain G.I.
Albert: Proud to be a plain G.I.!
Mentioning this because it's faded away from current use and surged in usage most recently at WWII, this is just referring to being a soldier. (Source) Hence, G.I. Joe, if you're old enough to remember that.
Appealing for the Draft
Albert: And that's why he volunteered for...
Men were drafted to join the US armed forces until 1973. (Source)
Jerries
Albert: "Say Mr. Peterson," he cried eagerly, "Do you suppose I can get assigned to the front-line trenches? That way I'll be sure to get one of those dirty jerries..."
"Jerries" is slang for German soldiers and was most popular during WWII. The joke here is that WWII is over at this point - the enemies Conrad would be facing at this time would be the Vietnamese, not the Germans. When Rosie tries to correct him, he just says "whoever's dirty this time!".
2024 equivalent: "Conrad said 'Is there any way I could be placed on Seal Team 6? That way I'll be sure to get that Osama Bin Laden for sure!'" "Albert!" "...Or whoever the terrorist is this time!"
Rosie + Albert's "Origin Stories" for Conrad
Just a few references from Rosie's and Albert's stories in "Healthy Normal American Boy" that may be interesting.
Old Virginie - This may be known as a historical fact for people in Virginia, but Carry Me Back to Old Virginny was popular enough in the state of Virginia that it was the state song starting in 1940. In 1940, the version that became the state song had "Virginia" instead of "Virginny", but people watching the musical would definitely be familiar with the original version as this play was only 20 years later.
Indo-China - An eastern territory that got independence from France claim in 1954, and comprised Cambodia, Laos, and parts of Vietnam. Audiences would have been very aware of what Indochina was - according to Wikipedia, "The events of [Indochina getting independence in 1954 through the Geneva Convention and the political tensions of that between S/N Vietnam and other countries] marked the beginnings of serious United States involvement in Vietnam and the ensuing Vietnam War." (Source) Remember, that's the current war during the events of the play!
Dirty Hong Kong moon - We had a complicated relationship with Hong Kong in the 1950s-60s. Read more here. Though I'm not sure if this is meant to be a mis-insult like when Albert said "dirty Jerries".
A wire to New York
Another Reporter: I'll make sure we've got a wire to New York.
This is almost certainly setting up a telegraph communication to New York, which was still happening (though declining in popularity) by 1960. (Source)
I mean I really feel that girl
Conrad: When I sing about a tree/I really feel that tree!/When I sing about a girl,/I really feel that girl,/I mean I really feel sincere!
This isn't necessarily specific to the 50s or 60s but I think this joke gets missed because it seems so tame today. A huge part of Elvis' appeal was his explicit sex appeal at the time (in the form of - gasp! - hip thrusts!) so he's slipping in accidentally a reference to "feeling up" a girl%20for%20sexual%20pleasure) here. Yeah, that slang started in the 1930s!
Mr. MacAfee's Speech
Just know that this is a lot of great historical references, nothing specific to 1950 - 60.
Ed Sullivan
Ed Sullivan was the nationwide sensation that lead The Ed Sullivan Show, a TV program considered one of the most iconic of all time in US television history. You have to understand just how influential and huge the Ed Sullivan Show was at this time. It's genuinely difficult to think of an equivalent in 2024 - today, people get entertainment from tons of sources on the internet, TV, etc. but in 1960 there were THREE television channels. That was it. THREE. To be fair, there were many, many more radio stations that could deliver information and entertainment, but by 1960 it was a TV nation - as the Library of Congress says, "In 1950 only 9 percent of American households had a television set, but by 1960 the figure had reached 90 percent." The Ed Sullivan Show was well watched and well loved by all of the United States. (And Albert saying that they would appear on Sunday at 8:05 was right, as that's when it aired in real life!)
One reason Ed Sullivan is specifically picked is the absolute bombshell of a privilege to be a normal family on this show beamed in practically every household in the United States. But another is Elvis' relationship with the show. When Elvis finally appeared on the show in 1956, it set a record of the most-viewed TV program ever in the US. In fact, it still holds the record TODAY of having the highest share of TV viewers in all of television history in the US. No other TV program has ever had a higher percentage of people tune in vs. other stations. (I mean, that's helped by the fact that there were only 3 choices, but still!) So yeah - this was a cultural phenomenon that was easy to reference in this show!
Margo out of Shangri-La
Mrs. Peterson: She looks like Margo when they took her out of Shangri-La.
Going to take this one right from that personal website I referenced above!
In the 1937 [movie] "Lost Horizon)" [...] a group of travelers are stuck in a utopia called Shangri-La, somewhere in the Himalayas. One of the residents of Shangri-La is Maria, played by Margo), a Mexican dancer and actress. When the travelers finally escape, Maria insists on going with them. But outside the realm of Shangri-La, her youthful beauty can no longer be maintained and she reverts to her true age, causing her to die and her appearance to transform to the hideously withered, wrinkled features of someone who has lived way beyond a normal life span.
You can watch the movie free with ads here, if you're curious! Also, according to the synopsis, Maria never actually escapes Shangri-La. She just dies and "reverts to her true age". AKA looks very very very decrepit. I'm guessing this is more of an easy thing to misremember and better shorthand, though. See the face at 2 hr 3 minutes in abouts!
Suwannee River
Gloria: Mae, can you hum Suwannee River?
While this is a nice convenient copyright-free tune, it would definitely have been publicly known at the time. It had been sung at least partially by Bing Crosby, on the Honeymooners, etc. in recent years before the musical premiered. Unsure if this is what they were going for, but the original lyrics are racist - no wonder it was Mae's "favorite selection".
Ruby Keeler
(Stage direction) Gloria tap dances as Mrs. Peterson hums gaily. Sort of Ruby Keeler-ish steps with a lot of feet-slapping.
Ruby was a well known actress and dancer in the 1920s-30s (and then later after a break). Here's some footage of her dancing! Interestingly, in her early career she was cast in a musical called Bye, Bye, Bonnie. In a newspaper article review, it seems the plot wasn't very similar to Bye Bye Birdie, though it did involve someone going to jail. (Source)
The Touch System
Mrs. Peterson: I'll find you a typewriter (Exits) Albert: [TO GLORIA] Do you use the touch system? Gloria: Whenever possible.
Albert is just referring to the touch system of typing - basically, not looking at the keyboard while you type. Still relevant today, though not with typewriters, which were standard until the 1980s, so that fits here. Of course, Gloria is of course referring to, uh, something a bit more sensual. (Read: She wants to touch him and not like a friend.)
Kodak Ad
Sullivan: So remember: your surest way to the best in color slides is to insist on the new Kodak! And now, the young man you've all been waiting to see.
Just like media today, the Ed Sullivan Show certainly included ads. This included ad deals where Ed himself would promote a product, kind of like YouTubers do with "This video is sponsored by...". And, as you can guess, one of those products was Kodak cameras and camera related products. Kodak was still a huge brand at the time (there were not cell phone cameras as competition, so it was way more likely your home owned a camera or two), Kodak absolutely was sponsoring the Ed Sullivan show and had been for a few years (Source). Here's an example from the time period. What you may miss about this ad in the musical is that it's not actually advertising a camera! Cameras at the time required physical film be loaded into them, and wouldn't you know it, Kodak released a new high-speed color film in 1959! (I think this may be a coincidence, as Kodak had been selling color film for quite a bit before this) Yet another reference that's right on the nose of the current times (of the time)!
Wear it in good health
Albert: Who let that kid in here? Rosie: I did Albert. Albert: Rosie! Rosie: It's a sort of farewell present to you and Miss Rasputin. Wear it in good health.
Not invented in the 50s by any means, but this phrase really isn't used as much today I think. There's not really a deeper meaning here besides sarcasm that I can find - it's just wishing someone well. Obviously, the sarcasm is dripping here lol.
Dinah Shore
STAGE DIRECTION: ...as Mr. MacAfee throws a tremendous Dinah Shore kiss to the audience.
Dinah Shore was an actress and entertainer that had been popular for years at that point. Super interesting career if you want to give it a read. This is referencing her famous "Dinah Shore kiss" that she would give at the end of her show broadcasts and was a huge part of her brand. Here's an example!
Stay tuned for Part 2! :)

2024.05.02 16:57 ConstructionHeavy334 In terms of writing, let’s talk about why Boruto’s writing doesn’t feel like Kishimoto’s writing to me.

I personally think that Kishimoto wrote an outline (there is clear evidence to prove it), which means that the character settings and plot structure were all his ideas. But I don't think he wrote the script and detailed plot. The difference is huge.
First, "Name" doesn't look like him.
Explain to those who don’t know what Name is. Name is a term for manga. It’s mean manga rough draft. Artists use it to layout their pages, and decide character placement, dialogue box and camera angles. Generally speaking, this is the manga’s script. For example, Kishimoto used name to wrote samurai 8. It's very detailed, the characters' expressions, movements, panel shape are all drawn in great detail, and even effect word are also drawn clear.
There are three differences between Boruto's Name and Kishimoto's Name arrangement.
  1. There are no spreads. Kishimoto likes to use large spreads to express impactful scenes and character emotions. However, Boruto Chapter 1-89does not have a single spread except for the cover color page which has three spreads. Among them, Kishimoto's iconic Three-views panel has never appeared once. This is one of Kishimoto’s signature storyboard formats. Samurai 8 has appeared.
  2. Here I tentatively think that Kishimoto probably didn’t arrange it this way because he took Ikemoto’s habits into consideration. But the difference is huge in the description of the fight scenes. Kishimoto's storyboards are more like Hiroaki Samura's. He depiction of battle scenes focuses more on depicting what happens at the moment of battle. First use a long lens to show the character's position, then use multiple small panels to show subtle movements, and then use a large frame to show the results of these actions. Like these. When he draws continuous action scenes, he often focuses the camera on the parts where the force is exerted, such as hands and feet, blades, projectiles and even faces. So when Kishimoto describes a fight, one page is usually very dense, with five panels per page being the most common. 6 or more are not uncommon. As evidence, I picked out a few scenes that had little dialogue and were mostly fights between two character. Lee vs KimimaroNaruto VS SasukeRyu VS Hachimaru(samurai 8).
However, Boruto's battle scenes are almost a replica of Akira Toriyama (Ikemoto also clearly stated in the author's message of the second volume of TBV that he was based on Akira Toriyama). Mainly focused on fast and smooth fighting. So the shots mainly focus on the surroundings of the characters. Battle scenes are depicted by alternating between panoramic views and close-ups of characters' upper bodies. The characteristic is that most of the grids are relatively large, usually 3-4 panels per page, and the number of pages with more than 5 grids is very rare.
3.Boruto manga hardly uses slanted panels to arrange the plot of non-combat scenes. Although Kishimoto is relatively traditional in the arrangement of panels, he basically does not use characters to out panels or panels without frame lines. But he would paint beveled panels for compositional and mood-guiding reasons. Boruto is incredibly conservative in this regard, 52-89, 1530 pages, and only less than 20 pages do this. And Kishimoto's Samurai 8, 1-2, has 20 pages out of more than 100 pages. The performance arrangement of the characters is also very wrong. Kishimoto's character performance style is more like a stage play. He often has exaggerated movements and expressions to liven up the picture. The camera will also add more mid-range shots and panoramic shots, rather than lifeless ones. Like the NPCs in Millennium RPGs, they are just close-ups of standing characters. In Boruto, there are many such situations. Many times the characters really just keep the same expression, just stand and talk, and usually only close-ups of their characters are shot. And not just one or two pages, but four, five or even more than 10 pages are not uncommon. The scariest one is Chapter 73, which spans 40 pages. Only 20 panels have action changes, and the rest are almost all close-ups of the characters' upper bodies.
  1. There are two things about the composition of Boruto that I find very interesting, that is, the male characters in Boruto like to make an S-shape pose . And very very like to use the effect word "ゴオオオオオオ" .You can look for it yourself, find it is very easy .This is the most common effect word in manga! Kishimoto generally only uses it when expressing strong and sustained wind sounds, such as in places such as jets and canyon. In manga, basically all environmental sound effects are made of it, even in transition scenes.
And I recently found Ikemoto’s award-winning short manga in 1999. Let me show you some.
You can see that the compositional habits and the use of onomatopoeia are almost the same as those of today's Boruto.
There is no doubt that Ikemoto is still working on Name.
Some people may ask why it is impossible for Kishimoto to write text scripts? There are also manga writers who write scripts! Indeed, there are some writers who write scripts. That's usually because they can't draw and are better or easier to describe with words than to draw. Kodachi wrote the script because he was a script writer and couldn't draw. so he wrote the text script, and then Ikemoto made the name based on the text script.
But obviously these problems do not exist for Kishimoto. Kishimoto can draw, and he can draw very well. And Name is more intuitive and convenient. Artists can quickly understand character positioning, basic composition and panel shapes. Rather than having to think hard about it through abstract words. The workload will be much less. That's how Kishimoto originally wrote Samurai 8, and there's no reason why he not do it. And in 2015, there was an interview with Kishimoto. It's about the Boruto movie. The script of the Boruto movie was written by Kishimoto in words. This was mentioned in the interview at the time.

————————————————————————————————————————
Reporter: Mr. Kishimoto is in charge of the script for this theatrical version. A script uses language to weave a story. Do you want to draw it as you write it?
Kishimoto: Actually, there were several scenes that I had pictures in my mind, so I drew some pictures of these scenes and then wrote the script based on the pictures. My idea is to decide on the scene you want to see first, and then just move towards that scene. It is better to clearly draw the visual effect of the scene than to vaguely imagine it. This is something I have experienced when I was drawing manga, so I also prepared visual effects drawings in advance when making movies. ————————————————————————————————————————
This basically makes it hard for me to believe that Kishimoto would write a script with words.
Even if Kishimoto is really writing a text script. I also feel like there's a lot of writing that doesn't look like Kishimoto's.
First of all, the portrayal of Boruto doesn’t feel like the kind of character Kishimoto would like.
I have read every one of Kishimoto's works. He has never portrayed such a repressed male protagonist.
The male protagonists in his works all have such positive, cheerful and humorous characteristics. Always have a hearty smile. No matter what kind of difficulties they have experienced, they will get back on their feet after a short period of depression. This is true even if Kishimoto has written a male protagonist who is a killer by profession and has many lives under his command.
Moreover, Kishimoto pays attention to the symmetrical description between characters. This symmetrical metaphor of yang and yin has appeared many times in Naruto. For example, Naruto and Sasuke, Hashirama and Madara, Hiruzen and Danzo, Obito and Kakashi. The Yang character is always loud and smiling, while the yin character is repressed and quiet. But it's weird here in Boruto. It stands to reason that Boruto and Kawaki should have the same metaphor. This is very true at the end of Chapter 80, when Boruto faces the risk of being hunted by the whole world and faces the future danger with a smile. Like the kind of protagonist Kishimoto would write. But when Boruto appeared in TBV, both of them became yin. His character looks almost exactly the same as Kawaki! This is reflected in the lines. The most typical one is the conversation between Boruto and Shikamaru in Chapter 86. He first asked mockingly, "I heard you became Hokage. Is that okay? Do this kind of thing secretly." Then Shikamaru explained to him that he was only a temporary agent. He said impatiently again, "I didn't ask you this, I asked why should I trust you?" I couldn't believe that this was what Kishimoto asked Boruto to say. Deliberately not saying the subject, luring Shikamaru into a trap, and then pointing out the mistake to give himself the right to speak. No matter how you look at it, it doesn’t look like the kind of protagonist Kishimoto would write.
The second reason is the arrangement of supporting roles.
I know that the later supporting characters in Shippuden were also largely ignored. But they are just ignored, just like Yamcha. Although they no longer participate in the plot, they can at least be a cheerleader, show their faces and say a few words. The other characters in Boruto are the same as Launch in DBZ, as if they have never appeared. They disappeared completely! No one even mentioned their names. If you don’t believe it, look at it. Sakura’s name, who is supposed to be close to Sarada, does not appear in any of Sarada’s dialogues! The most typical one is the first 4 chapters of TBV. Konoha was invaded, but not a single supporting character appeared, not even a reaction afterwards.Especially the characters Sakura and Kakashi. Sakura's husband defected to such a big thing, but she didn't say a few words. Even when the senju was announced as Sasuke in Chapter 88, Sakura still didn't show up. As the sixth generation Hokage, Kakashi did not express any opinion on what happened to his next and student, nor did he explain why Shikamaru took over as the agent instead of him. Could it be that Kishilike Toriyama, he forgotten? Considering that in minato's short manga, unrelated characters such as Obito and Kurenai all appear in the panel, I am skeptical.
Finally, and what puzzles me the most, is why there are so few flashbacks?
If there's one thing that's most impressive about Kishimoto's writing, it's definitely flashbacks. Kishimoto likes to use the alternation of flashbacks and real-life scenes to describe the emotions and growth of characters. And guide the audience's emotions while expanding the character's backstory.
He used this writing technique extensively in Samurai 8 and Minato's One shot.
However these are very rare in Boruto. Let me give you an intuitive data to illustrate how rare it is.
In Boruto 52-89, there are only 180 flashback panels in 1530 pages, an average of one every 8 pages. There are only four flashback scenes ,3 that last longer than two pages. They are ch59 (2 pages), ch75 (7 pages), and ch85 (10 pages).
As for Kishimoto's Samurai 8, it only counts 1-27, with a total of 577 pages. There are 212 flashback panels, with an average of one in every three pages. There are memory scenes of more than two pages, namely ch12 (3 pages), ch22 (13 pages), and ch24 (5 pages).
And in terms of use, there are several places that are not used that make me very confused. Kurama and Naruto parted ways, Naruto was sad holding Boruto's body. When Sarada turns on Ms.Mitsuki and Boruto confront each other three years later. These are great times to insert memories that will make the reader cry. But it didn't do that. It seems that no one except Boruto and Kawaki deserves a little psychological and background description.

ARTISAN RCT: Advice vs. Advice and Physiotherapy for Shoulder Dislocation

Key FindingsThe study compared the effectiveness of advice alone versus advice with a physiotherapy program for first-time traumatic shoulder dislocation. The results showed little difference in the primary outcome or secondary outcomes between the two groups. However, the addition of physiotherapy was likely to be cost-effective.
Practical SolutionsDespite the limited difference in outcomes, the study suggests that advice with additional physiotherapy sessions could be a cost-effective option. However, the study also raises questions about the best use of scarce physiotherapy resources given current service demands.

2024.05.02 16:25 donedidlio amex global transfer - first card in US

Hi I am doing the global transfer from Canada to US.
I am looking for my first card. Thinking between Gold vs BCP. Gold offer 90,000 MR vs BCP offer: $0 AF for first year, $300 cashback in the first year. I will be stuck with this card for 6 months. After that, I can apply for a new card.
My first few months in USA are going to be basically that of a new immigrant. Spending on household items, groceries for a single person, and gas from driving back to Canada. Eating out a lot until I settle in one area. I will travel to NYC, Florida and SF (so flights + hotel stays or airbnb/furnished finder + ubering) in these next 2 months to scope out places to live for the more long term as right now i am just across the border temporarily. Will have upcoming large furniture and TV etc purchases once I sign a long term lease.
this will be my first card in US, i have no US credit history but have an SSN.
any recommendations for this transient scenario.
thank you kindly

Pioneer Natural says 'disagree and are surprised by' FTC's complaint
Pioneer Natural Resources (PXD) issued the following statement in response to the decision by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to clear the proposed merger with Exxon Mobil (XOM) subject to a consent order based on allegations in a settlement complaint directed at Mr. Sheffield: "We disagree and are surprised by the FTC's Complaint saying that Mr. Sheffield's record and statements on matters of public interest should disqualify him from serving on the ExxonMobil Board of Directors. Notwithstanding, Pioneer and Mr. Sheffield are not taking any steps to prevent the merger from closing. As he has for his entire career, Mr. Sheffield is electing to place the interests of investors, employees and the competitive health of the U.S. energy industry ahead of his own. At the same time, Mr. Sheffield and Pioneer believe that the FTC's Complaint reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the U.S. and global oil markets and misreads the nature and intent of Mr. Sheffield's actions. During Mr. Sheffield's career, it was neither the intent nor an effect of Mr. Sheffield's communications to circumvent the laws and principles protecting market competition... Over the course of his 50-year career, Mr. Sheffield has been at the forefront of building a competitive U.S. shale industry, which comprises scores of public and private independent companies... He has been a champion of building a competitive industry labor market, improving skills and opportunities and an advocate for fostering an employee culture rooted in respect, integrity, safety, diversity and collaboration."

2024.05.02 15:04 SlightlyAnonymous87 "The Undraftables" Week 4 Team Update

The Undraftables: Week 4 Update (Going into/during Week 5)
I initially undertook this challenge with the NBA and decided to extend it to MLB as well. The rules are simple: I cannot select any player who has an Average Draft Position (ADP), regardless of how high or low it may be. Even if a player's ADP is 250+, they are off-limits if they have any average draft position. My draft took place on Sunday, April 7th. Admittedly, this was after the start of the season, but my focus had been primarily on the NBA season, leaving me with limited time to prepare for baseball. Nevertheless, I managed to squeeze in most of my MLB prep work within a few days/week. This is a standard 12 team head to head category league on yahoo with 6 adds per week. The buy-in was lower than my usual, but not free (inactivity and too easy).
Here was the draft results:
  1. (6) Lance McCullers Jr. (HOU - SP)
  2. (19) Drew Rasmussen (TB - SP)
  3. (30) Dustin May (LAD - SP)
  4. (43) Ronel Blanco (HOU - SP,RP)
  5. (54) Brady Singer (KC - SP)
  6. (67) Paul Blackburn (OAK - SP)
  7. (78) Cody Bradford (TEX - SP,RP)
  8. (91) Chad Green (TOR - RP)
  9. (102) Steven Matz (STL - SP,RP)
  10. (115) Tanner Houck (BOS - SP)
  11. (126) Tyler Anderson (LAA - SP)
  12. (139) Spencer Turnbull (PHI - SP)
  13. (150) Connor Joe (PIT - 1B,OF)
  14. (163) José Caballero (TB - 2B,SS)
  15. (174) Gio Urshela (DET - 1B,3B,SS)
  16. (187) Will Brennan (CLE - OF)
  17. (198) Jake McCarthy (AZ - OF)
  18. (211) Jorge Mateo (BAL - SS)
  19. (222) Dairon Blanco (KC - OF)
  20. (235) Jacob Young (WSH - OF)
  21. (246) Bubba Thompson (CIN - OF)
  22. (259) Trevor Williams (WSH - SP)
  23. (270) Reese McGuire (BOS - C)
Recent Additions from Last Week:
Recent Additions for this Week Mon to Thurs:
Recent Drops Last Week and This Week:
Trades that I performed since my last update last MON:
Current Roster and why I choose to own them:
So here we are! I made it through another week with this "bad team". I would like to talk about last week's matchup: I pulled off a useful 5-5 TIE! I hit .272 and had 8 SB for winning two offensive categories. I won saves barely 5-4. Extremely close strikeouts battle where I won 71 to 68, then had an ERA of 2.38. The pitching was in large part due to guys like Kirby, Gauseman, Blanco, Elder, Assad, Houck, Turnbull, even Singer with his 11k was helpful! On offense I was carried by Maikel Garcia, Jacob Young and Jake McCarthy (high avg), Nolan Jones too went .500 in 6 at bats. I"m now 18-12 overall and in 2nd place!
I would like to discuss my trades for a bit. I send out a very high volume of trade offers which is why I have been able to get so many trades done here. There is much communication and sometimes back and forth that happens. I type very much to my fellow managers. I been lucky they have worked with me and communicated back and forth. I could write another very long piece about "The art of the fantasy trade", but that's a different topic or post. (Coming soon someday). If you look at the trades I was able to make you can see that I took a risk to buy low on every single SP that I received. In addition to selling high on SP that were overperforming. (Classic buy low, sell high) I played on the fears of fantasy managers and the early struggles the SP were having and banked that they would turn it around to what their track record usually is. The only guy who doesn't have that major track record is Cole Ragans, but I'm still happy to have him. There is significant stuff metrics he has and Royals are a better team than we thought they would be. In addition, there appears to be quite a major following, making him a high value trade asset I think? I will miss Tanner Houck who has been marvelous! Same with Seth Lugo, Javier Assad, Spencer Turnbull and Jordan Hicks, (Bryce Elder in 2 starts) who have all continued to be awesome! So it's not entirely certain yet if I "won every trade" even though I'm sure many of you would freak out that I pulled off some of these? There might be arguments to be made that I should have focused my upgrades on hitters instead of obtaining more pitching? Discuss if you wish? (But to that I sorta say that the waiver wire have some useful assets with sneaky value to my team build). The issue I sort of have ran into though is "Running out of adds" by performing these bulk trades.
My matchup for this current week features an opponent with many starting pitchers. So again it will be a difficult one for those pitching counting stats like wins and strikeouts, yet keeping the ratios low!!! For the rest of the week, they have 5 more SP going, but I have 8 more SP scheduled to start. They only have 2 closers vs my 4 closers. So I like my odds! I'm ahead in wins 2-1. We are tied in strikeouts and ratios are very low for both of us. 2.79era, 0.76whip for me and 1.95era, 0.87 for them!!! Offensively I will likely win SB and AVG since I already have the leads and those are my strong skills. I want to address why I chose to currently ride with 2 empty hitter spots. It is because my opponent has so many SP and our pitching numbers are too close! I needed to prioritize my adds based on the matchup. It's a bit more of a "short term focus" but it has been proven to win matchups in past. I may not need to start all my SP on Sunday though, well see how it goes!
In terms of my future moves for next week, (out of adds for this week) I'm still targeting more strong SP that is still available that I would like on my team, but obviously I may need to fill those hitter positions. It will depend on my matchup. I wanted Tyler Black quite badly, but because I traded away so many pitchers I needed to replace them and add those 2 start SP that I added on Monday morning) I just didn't have enough adds! (especially with Yandy and Fedde out there) I will try trading for Mr. Black. His contact skills and speed are exactly the things that are appealing to me. (His grades were ranked a 60 grade hit tool and 60 grade speed tool according to MLB top 100 prospects list). I am shocked the brewers are batting him 4th in the lineup. We shall see if that remains. I view him more as a 2 or 3 hitter. Also Jung Hoo Lee was available and I strongly debated adding him because his expected very high average (like in the KBO) and maybe strong runs batting leadoff. That might be something for next week. Plenty of bats are still intriguing to me and truly with this style of build it's easier to find AVG, SB types. (Eventually I want to be competitive in RUNS too, but highly unlikely with current team. Yandy Diaz certainly could help in that regard if he gets it going!). Will Benson on radar.
As far as my drops it would be those SP streamers like Falter, Gray, Taillon, however if Taillon does well this week will be a higher trade asset and I might even hold onto him. (Cubs team context, fairly solid track record 2022 and before). Jon Gray would also become a higher asset trade piece or I could just hold and enjoy his services on a strong TEX offense. I do regret dropping Connor Joe because he has been just fine (and since Nolan Jones got hurt) where I may look to re-add him later in the season. Will Brennan is another useful contact bat that I still have my eye on and miss on my team. Jorge Mateo will be missed only for his speed skills, (3sb last week) but also doesn't get many at bats and limited upside so he was expendable.
The strategy here is punting HR, RBI (punt power). I have won with it in many head to head leagues for over 3 years now and because of that success I decided to employ it here with an "Undraftables" team!!! Appears to be working well so far! (I did also run a few mock drafts for "power versions" of the Undraftables type team. I wish I would have done that build too!) If you look back at the end of the year there will be an extremely high amount of strong players that were all waiver wire pickups or undrafted! (I made a post last year about it). Anyhow, the goal of a punt power build is to win 2 offensive categories (Ideally 3 eventually, by winning runs) and win 4-5 pitching categories. (If you are able to obtain closers you have upside to win 5 pitching cats, if you punt saves then your upside is 4 and you would be more consistently likely to win WINS and K categories) I technically currently have the upside to win all 5 pitching and 2 hitting categories. (If I gain runs value I would even have maximum upside of 8 categories! 5+3=8) Remember that in category leagues you ONLY NEED TO WIN 6 categories folks! This is the benefit of punting! (And technically in h2h playoffs you can have a tie 5-5 and still advance to next round due to season standings and matchup ranking!) I think punting gives you less variance than other builds? Or maybe this less variance is just from having high AVG contact hitters? Discuss?
Of course, I'm also aware that I have been benefited by being very active on the waiver wire (and bidding the correct amount of FAAB to win players) as well as some advantageous trades. I'm aware that some of you may not be able to pull off these kinds of trades in your leagues. I guess it is easier to pull off more trades in yahoo public money leagues than various private leagues? That is a whole other discussion though. I do send out MANY OFFERS and communicate very much to help make a trade occur. (Even though this exact team is on the lower priority of my time devotion, because I have 9 other more important leagues inside yahoo as well as a few on other sites) I typically spend between 2-5 hours per day managing my teams.
Overall, I'm quite happy with my team's performance and strategy, even though it's considered a tougher challenge. As mentioned my goal is to win by a score of 6-4 or tie 5-5, but eventually will have upside to win 7-3 or even 8-2. I'm willing to make adjustments for each week and consider player recommendations to achieve that goal. So far, this has gone better than I expected (whereas this was tougher in the NBA)! One of the bigger takeaways you can glean from this strategy is that there are numerous ways to win a category league. (Notate that this punt power strategy has NOT been tested in Roto YET. I plan to test that next year. Is this the best way to "punt power"? No, remember this was an "extra challenge" that I set forth upon myself.) Also another takeaway here is that you don't necessarily "need" superstars, but instead to have the right build or combination of players and a focus on matchups. (In fantasy and MLB) There are various "useful" players with skill sets that are still worthy. You don't need "The best player" in everything. (At least NOT IN A CATEGORY LEAGUE) If you have suffered severe injuries to some power hitters (like Trout, Casas, Royce Lewis, Josh Jung) you could transition and/or trade into a "punt power build" to try it out? (Or that could be something you consider further down the road in the season too) If you need help on how to do it, I'm your guy!
I'll provide weekly updates on Monday mornings (sorry, I was too busy this week) on the team's progress, so let me know if you'd like to follow along or have any suggestions! Thoughts on the team? If you want the previous updates on the team with "How I ended up here" and each week breakdown you can find them in a FB group or I can send them to you in a message. (I wasn't able to post early in season because I changed reddit profiles (hated my username) from last year which had bunches of karma!) (Can't post if you don't have enough karma) Additionally, I'm recruiting for next year, (although this is NOT the central goal of this post) where this unique drafting strategy will be the league's standard for each owner.

2024.05.02 15:00 KaleidoscopeWeird310 Post Draft Depth Chart from The Athletic

I am feeling pretty good about this roster...

Quarterbacks (3)

1. Josh Allen 2. Mitchell Trubisky 3. Shane Buechele
The Bills head into another year with a pretty decided quarterback room. Allen is the unquestioned leader of the franchise, and now he’ll need to take on a different form, working with a top group of pass catchers who haven’t been together long. Allen must raise the level of play from the young players surrounding him. Trubisky enters the year as the backup. As soon as the Pittsburgh Steelers released him, the Bills were the odds-on favorites to land him because of how complimentary general manager Brandon Beane was of Trubisky when he became a free agent in 2022. The team likes Buechele, but whether they’ll have a 53-man roster spot for him is the question.

Running backs (5)

1. James Cook 2. Ty Johnson 3. Ray Davis 4. Darrynton Evans 5. Reggie Gilliam (fullback)
After bouncing back from being benched, Cook enters his third season as the unquestioned lead back on the roster with a giant gap between him and either Johnson or the rookie Davis. Cook should continue to push toward some of the heaviest involvement the Bills have seen in recent years out of their top back. Johnson returned on a one-year deal and provided spark. His game is more like Cook’s, so he’ll likely have a game day role when Cook needs a breather. The Bills hope Davis, their fourth-round pick, brings what they’ve wanted to add to the group for years — power and short-yardage ability. It’s unclear how significant Davis’ role will be, but there’s a world where he jumps Johnson on the depth chart before the season begins. Don’t be surprised if wide receiver Curtis Samuel mixes into the backfield as well, given his history with offensive coordinator Joe Brady when they were with the Carolina Panthers.

Wide receivers (10)

X1. Keon Coleman Z1. Curtis Samuel Slot1. Khalil Shakir 4. Mack Hollins (X) 5. Justin Shorter (X) 6. K.J. Hamler (Z, Slot) 7. Andy Isabella (Slot) 8. Tyrell Shavers (X, Z) 9. Quintez Cephus (X, Z) 10. Bryan Thompson (Slot, Z)
Even after using their top choice on a wide receiver, this group is the weakest in several seasons. Out of their top four, the only player the Bills have who has worked with Allen in the past is Shakir, and he might not have a ceiling higher than a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver. The Bills will need Coleman or Samuel to step up in a big way besides Shakir. Coleman has a lot of potential, though asking a 21-year-old to produce in a way he never has at a higher level of football seems like asking for too much, too soon. The depth is an issue, with a journeyman veteran, Mack Hollins, as their top reserve and nothing but big question marks afterward. This wide receivers group looks primed for another addition before the 2024 season. After the draft, Beane shot down the notion of trading for a big-name receiver. However, they could still pick up an experienced receiver just hanging around in free agency when June rolls around.

Tight ends (5)

1. Dalton Kincaid 2. Dawson Knox 3. Quintin Morris 4. Tre’ McKitty 5. Zach Davidson
With an unproven receivers unit, Allen might need to depend on Kincaid to pick up a hearty amount of slack to keep the offense moving the way they want it to. It depends on their vision for him in 2024. The Bills moved away from heavy usage of 12 personnel early in the year and mostly settled into 11 personnel. If that’s the plan again this year, how the Bills divvy up snaps between Kincaid and Knox will be interesting. Knox likely knows a reduced role is on the way, though he is a favorite of Allen’s in the locker room, so it remains to be seen how much he’ll be on the sidelines. Morris returns as the third tight end and a core special teams player. He has the edge on McKitty and Davidson for the likely final tight end spot on the 53-man roster.

Offensive tackles (7)

LT1. Dion Dawkins RT1. Spencer Brown 3. Ryan Van Demark 4. La’el Collins 5. Tylan Grable 6. Richard Gouraige 7. Travis Clayton
The Bills enter the year with the most confidence they’ve ever had in their starting offensive tackles. Dawkins had one of his best years in 2023 and signed a contract extension, and Brown put together a fantastic second half of the season and, should that continue, looks like a hit of a third-round pick from the 2021 class. That didn’t stop the Bills from investing in the position in some capacity. Van Demark returns as the favorite for the backup swing tackle job, and the Bills have every incentive to continue developing him as they have three more years of roster control on him (ERFA in 2025, RFA in 2026). Collins’ best years are behind him, though he can provide good depth at tackle and guard. Grable, a sixth-round rookie, likely needs to beat veteran interior offensive lineman Will Clapp for a spot on the 53-man roster this year. The Bills can stash Clayton on the practice squad as a part of the International Pathway Program.

C1. Connor McGovern LG1. David Edwards RG1. O’Cyrus Torrence 4. Sedrick Van Pran-Granger 5. Alec Anderson 6. Will Clapp 7. Kevin Jarvis 8. Tommy Doyle
If you’re looking for a sneaky competition this summer, the interior offensive line might provide it. McGovern will be a starter, though where he lines up could depend on how he performs at center in camp and whether Anderson or the fifth-round rookie Van Pran-Granger make a push to start by outperforming Edwards. Van Pran-Granger played center throughout college, and Anderson can play at left guard or center. We might see several line combinations mixing and matching at those two positions. The likeliest outcome is they head into the season with McGovern and Edwards as starters, see how they perform, then reassess a month into the season. Clapp needs to earn his spot on the 53-man roster after the Bills picked two offensive linemen on Day 3 of the draft. He might be best suited for one of their veteran practice squad spots.

Edge rushers (7)

LE1. Greg Rousseau RE1. A.J. Epenesa 3. Von Miller 4. Kingsley Jonathan 5. Javon Solomon 6. Casey Toohill 7. Kameron Cline
Rousseau enters the campaign as their top defensive end. They already picked up his fifth-year option, which was an easy decision for them, but they’re getting to a point where they’ll need to decide if they are investing a second contract in him. Now that Leonard Floyd is gone, it would be in their best interest to keep Rousseau on his most natural pass-rushing side, the left, after putting him on the right side for most of his snaps last year. Epenesa helps because he’s a natural right-side rusher and looks primed to be the starter this season. In what could be his last year with the team, Miller will likely cede starting snaps to Rousseau and Epenesa and be a rotational rusher unless he shows he is the same player as before his torn ACL in 2022. Jonathan and Solomon have legit claims to the 53-man roster, and Toohill is likely on the outside looking in. Like receiver, this position still feels light, so don’t be surprised to see a spring or summer addition to round out their rotation.

Defensive tackles (6)

3TDT. Ed Oliver 1TDT. DaQuan Jones 3. Austin Johnson 4. DeWayne Carter 5. DeShawn Williams 6. Eli Ankou
There are no questions atop the depth chart with Oliver and Jones. They are two of the best players on the roster. After them, the Bills hoped their group of rotational defensive tackles would realize their potential over the last two years, but it never happened and was a constant weakness. They needed a refresh. So they let Tim Settle, Jordan Phillips and Poona Ford walk and brought in Austin Johnson and the third-round rookie Carter as the top backups behind Oliver and Jones. Williams could stick, though his contract makes it easy to cut him and likely bring him back in a practice squad role. The current odds are that they only keep four with this group this year.

Linebackers (6)

WLB1. Matt Milano MLB1. Terrel Bernard 3. Dorian Williams (WLB) 4. Baylon Spector (MLB) 5. Edefuan Ulofoshio (WLB) 6. Nicholas Morrow (MLB)
The big question in the linebackers group is not who the starters will be but how soon Milano can play. The last update the Bills gave about Milano was April 18, when the linebacker was still “working through his deal” and rehabbing the injury in Buffalo. They have yet to provide a timetable for his return, though given when the injury occurred, early in 2023, the outside expectation is he’ll be ready for the season. Bernard is the starting middle linebacker again, looking to capitalize on a solid first season. The Bills likely are looking at Bernard in a leadership role this year. Williams will get every opportunity to win the primary backup job, though he was rough around the edges as a rookie. Spector will battle him for the top reserve role while being a locked-in special teams contributor. The Bills could choose to keep six linebackers this year as usual. But if they need to clear a spot for another position, it will be between Morrow and the fifth-round rookie Ulofoshio for the fifth and final spot — with Ulofoshio likely getting the benefit of the doubt.

Cornerbacks (7)

Boundary 1. Rasul Douglas 2. Christian Benford 3. Kaiir Elam 4. Ja’Marcus Ingram 5. Kyron Brown
Nickel 1. Taron Johnson 2. Cam Lewis 3. Daequan Hardy
The Bills likely are intent on figuring out the future of their boundary cornerbacks group during the 2024 season. Douglas is a starter but only signed through the end of the season. Benford likely will be the other starting cornerback again and is signed through 2025. But the big question is Elam. That’s whom they need to find out about the most during the year. Elam’s fifth-year option for the 2026 season is due in May 2025. If he proves himself to be more than a flashy yet inconsistent player in his third season, the 2022 first-round pick will have a solid opportunity to start opposite Benford in 2025. But if he continues to do more of the same in practice, preseason and regular-season opportunities, it wouldn’t be a surprise for the Bills to try to reach a one-year extension with Douglas. All options are on the table. The Bills could also add a low-cost veteran as their fourth boundary cornerback this season. At nickel, Taron Johnson is one of their best players, and Lewis or the sixth-round pick Hardy will be his primary backup. Lewis usually practices with the safeties, so we’re not counting him at cornerback for the roster numbers but at safety.

Safeties (6)

1. Taylor Rapp 2. Cole Bishop 3. Mike Edwards 4. Cam Lewis 5. Damar Hamlin 6. Kendall Williamson
This position seems entirely up in the air, though considering their investments, the Bills would like it if Rapp and Bishop took hold of the starting jobs in the summer. Rapp seems the safest bet to be on the first team through the spring and summer. It would not be surprising if the Bills gave Bishop, Edwards and Lewis a chance to earn it with the top unit in practice. Hamlin looks like he’s on the outside looking in on the roster this year. The Bills’ trading him at some point before the season would not be a surprise, either.

Specialists (4)

Kicker: Tyler Bass Punters: Sam Martin, Matt Haack Long snapper: Reid Ferguson
After a one-year hiatus, it looks like we’ll have a return of the #Puntapalooza (!), with Martin getting some competition from Haack and possibly from a reported undrafted rookie punter. If there are indeed three punters heading to Bills training camp, a new stopwatch will be heading to the Buscaglia residence.

2024.05.02 14:46 apps-1 Revolutionizing Enterprise Application Development with Low-code Platforms

In today's fast-paced business environment, agility and innovation are more critical than ever for staying ahead of the competition. Custom enterprise application development with low-code platforms offers a solution to this challenge by enabling organizations to rapidly build and deploy tailored applications that meet their unique needs. This article explores how low-code platforms are revolutionizing enterprise application development and the key benefits they offer to businesses.
Introduction
Enterprise application development has traditionally been a time-consuming and resource-intensive process, requiring significant investment in development resources and infrastructure. However, with the emergence of low-code platforms, this paradigm is rapidly changing. Low-code platforms empower organizations to build custom applications quickly and cost-effectively, without the need for extensive coding or development expertise.
Key Benefits of Low-code Platforms
  1. Rapid Development: Low-code platforms provide a visual development environment that allows users to design, build, and deploy applications with minimal hand-coding. By providing pre-built components and drag-and-drop functionality, low-code platforms accelerate the development process and reduce time-to-market.
  2. Cost-effectiveness: Traditional enterprise application development can be prohibitively expensive, requiring significant investment in development resources and infrastructure. In contrast, low-code platforms offer a more cost-effective alternative, allowing organizations to build custom applications with fewer resources and lower overhead costs.
  3. Flexibility and Agility: One of the key advantages of low-code development is its ability to adapt to changing business requirements quickly. With low-code platforms, organizations can easily modify existing applications or create new ones to respond to evolving market trends and customer needs.
  4. Empowerment of Business Users: Low-code platforms empower business users, not just professional developers, to participate in the application development process. By providing intuitive tools and visual interfaces, low-code platforms enable users with limited technical expertise to create custom applications tailored to their specific needs.
Challenges and Considerations
While the benefits of low-code platforms are undeniable, organizations must also be aware of potential challenges and considerations. These may include:
Real-world Examples
Numerous organizations across industries have successfully leveraged low-code platforms for custom application development. For example, Company X, a leading retail chain, used a low-code platform to create a custom inventory management system. By streamlining processes and improving efficiency, the system enabled Company X to reduce costs and better serve its customers.
Conclusion
Low-code platforms are revolutionizing enterprise application development by empowering organizations to build custom applications quickly and cost-effectively. By accelerating the development process, reducing costs, and empowering business users, low-code platforms unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth. As businesses continue to embrace digital transformation, the role of low-code platforms in enterprise application development will only continue to expand.

2024.05.02 14:09 M_with_Z 33 RuneScape 3 Videos to Watch from the Month of April

33 RS3 Videos to Watch from the Month of April

Hello folks, I think some of the reddit folks remember my post from last month which was a list of all the currently active RS3 YouTube Content Creators (which has already changed since some people have become active again), if you haven't here is the link. I had previously posted a similar spotlight post of some of the best RS3 videos for the Month of March and wanted to keep it to a monthly theme and have created this April centered post.
These are my opinions but I will provide the title of the video, the name of the creator, a summary of the video and the link of said video.
These videos will be listed based on the alphabetical order of the titles and is not a ranking guide since some of these videos are basically raw and unpolished. Please note a majority of these creators do not make RS3 Content as a profession and they post these videos as a passion project for the game we all enjoy and play, RuneScape 3. If you enjoy any of these videos, please like, comment and subscribe to whichever Creators you enjoyed.

100 Magister Takedowns: Is He Worth It? Runescape

Charliz4rd92
Well Protoxx, I think we finally have someone whose voice is a bit more soothing or satisfying to listen to. In this very simple video, Charliz4rd92 in his amazing voice narrates his experience with the Magister in the current bossing meta of the game. Honestly the content was normal bossing but man is his voice satisfying to listen to and the video edits and introduction makes him a Content Creator to keep an eye on.

2:14 ab2 – the fastest floor ever done in W77

L2ggs
For a majority of people this title is an acronym that most people don’t understand and if you do, you’re a RuneScape 3 player that most likely played a decade ago. This is a Dungeoneering Speedrun record video where the 5 man finished an Abandoned 2 Floor in 2 minutes and 14 seconds. This video was posted by L2ggs who is one of the best DG’ers in the current era of the game where he and a multitude of other Dungeoneering Speedrunners are trying to break records that are still considered impossible to beat from several years ago. If you are interested in gaining an insane amount of Dungeoneering experience, a unique highscores or an insane amount of Dungeoneering Tokens in a short amount of time, this is a community you want to learn about.

30.000% Zamorak, HALFWAY TO 60K!!! [TRIO]

Sejearian
Last month we had quite a few Bossing feats happen for the first time. Even though I am only posting one of 30,000% Zamorak Enrage feats, there were multiple that happened last month, and I recommend checking out all of them by looking them up on YouTube. So, for those who don’t know supposedly 60,000% Zamorak is the maximum enrage you can get to when fighting the Zamorak boss and no one has even gotten close to reaching this yet. Sejearian a top tier PvM’er showcases this 3 man Zamorak fight where any wrong or incorrectly mechanic response would have ended their run to get to the halfway point of this boss nearly two years later after its release.

AFK Nightmare Creatures Necromancy Guide

Silenced
I honestly forgot that Nightmare Creatures existed since they have faded to obscurity over the last several years. In this video Silenced showcases that Nightmares are very easily Afk’able with Necromancy and how to achieve this feat. Not to mention it is a great money maker and experience gaining method. It is a very high tier expensive loadout needed to be able to utilize this method but definitely a viable method for Necromancy Experience to finish that last portion of the 200m grind.

Araxxor Guide (Necromancy) for the casual player

Dropping Bear
This is Dropping Bear’s first boss guide and I think he did a pretty good job. In this slow but very methodical guide, he showcases how to beat Araxxor with necromancy and how to deal with every mechanic during every phase. He includes graphics, visual indications and a lot of great tips and tricks on how to deal with the Boss as a player attempting their first go for this boss. If you’re a person whose scared of bossing, this is an excellent mid-tier to beginning stage boss to learn with very good reward output.

Blooming Burrow [FashionScape Showcase #3]

Crystal
Spotlighted by Jagex on the RuneScape Weekly Update in the first week of April, this video deserves to be on this list also due to how well Crystal explains the new Easter FashionScape items. With her video she goes into visual detail (with outfit combinations) about all the new cosmetic items and titles and how to unlock them. Unfortunately, the Easter Event has ended upon creating this post but this would be an excellent video to watch and see how the new cosmetics would look in game if you ever plan to get them in a future event.

Eating this Obscure Food INCREASES DPS!!!

Cyruss
Mostly working on his Golden Reaper series, Cyruss showcases a unique new food tech method that can increase your damage output if you are attempting to break some PvM records. I personally have never heard of it myself but it’s a unique method that synergizes well with a few other game mechanics. I recommend this for any casual or new PvM’er to utilize this method in your new attempts at doing a boss for the first time or for a End game PvM’er who is trying to make it on the PvM Speedrun TwitteX shoutouts.

Fashionscape: Forest Archer Outfits – Runescape (Female Outfits)

Wings of Absurdity
Wings has been just pouring out unique new content, but my personal favorite is the Fashionscape Outfit showcases. Similar to the last month, Wings has edited it really well where they match the scenery, sound effects and lighting to go with the outfit theme. I am a sucker for Range outfits and I really like the Maplewood Archer and Deepwood Beastmaster sets they showcase.

Hidden in Runescape’s New Quest are insane Lore Revelations! Requiem for A Dragon!

Prideslayer RS
With the release of RuneScape’s newest quest, Requiem for A Dragon. Mr Prideslayer has once again released another amazing theory crafted video about the Lore of the Quest. Even if you are not a lorehound, I think you can appreciate all the crazy research this man has done. In fact, most Jmods are scared of even posting lore content since this man is like Charlie from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia who is going to dissect everything that gets posted. It’s a fun watch and you will laugh or at minimum smirk.

How To PROPERLY Kill Rasial! – Beginner Tips

Init Yeah
Even though I might be compiling this video list, I am not the greatest PvM’er and guides like this one by Init Yeah are awesome. In the video, he does a great breakdown of some of the most common issues he sees since he often hosts Bossing masses and is constantly getting other player feedback from their Bossing attempts. Usually Init Yeah isn’t my style of videos however this video is a quality watch especially if you’re still new to Bossing still.

INSANE LORE – Can Mod Stu Save RUNESCAPE? Beloved developer talks Lore, New Player experience!

Prideslayer RS
Probably the best video of the month. This excellent video or interview with Mod Stu is a must watch for the month. In this deep dive of an interview, Prideslayer goes into the deep end of RuneScape 3 lore. With questions pertaining to Ashdale future rework to become a Minigame hub to extreme Xau Tuk lore, many lore questions are answered and unanswered in this great interview. If you’re a lorehound or want to see how passionate people are about the lore than you need to watch this video.

Is the new Necromancy ritual good? I did the math.

Qp RS
A short video by Qp that goes over the new Ectoplasm Ritual which is a massive update for Ironmans. In this video despite him missing the new Necklace of Alteration (20% Output Increase) which he addresses in the comments, he explains what the expected output for Ectoplasm would be achievable for both Ironman and Main Accounts. For main accounts, I would still recommend checking this video out since this is a great new money maker if you still need to train Necromancy to 120.

KBD on F2P with no Food

Void Delphox
Void is normally a speedrunner or building unique 1 defence accounts but in this video, they showcase their skill in beating the King Black Dragon in Free to Play without any food. This video came about when someone made a comment in their previous April Fools video claiming that KBD was harder than 4K enrage of Zamorak on a 42 defence account that he attempted to do.

Let’s Talk About Necromancy’s Visual Design Part 1 – Ft. Several RS Content Creators

A C P L
A new format that A C P L, one of RS3’s prolific lorehound’s utilizes is this question and analysis format where he gets RS3 Content Creators to give their thoughts on the new Necromancy Visual Designs. The perspectives are fresh with a variety of viewpoints that analyze the color schemes and what they represent to the highest tier of necromancy gear not being able to be dyed for the initial few months upon release and various other necromancy design elements.

NEW RUNESCAPE SKILL – Ultimate Benchsitting 1-99 Guide

AshShley
In this pun-tastic video AshShley goes over the iconic April Fools event of this year or in my opinion the best April Fools event we’ve ever had in RuneScape 3. If you missed it, that’s really unfortunate however this video is a great watch of what you missed in regard to the best new skill that was added to the game for a singular week. AshShley is generally known for her Totally Relatable Guides which is intended for the casual player so check out her channel for more silly puns and guides similar to this one.

NEW SKILLCAPE – RuneScape

PolarizedMoon
In the previous video located above, I recommend AshShley’s guide but this video of PolarizedMoon where he naturally discovers the new skill is a joy to watch. PolarizedMoon normally plays RuneScape in a more casual style due to the variety of games he plays and posts on his channel. However, if you want to watch a lighthearted creator who isn’t all about efficiency and is just playing for fun, he is an excellent creator in this regards.

Rat Tales Episode 2 – Jmod Azanna

Rat Cypher
A newer RuneScape 3 player, Rat Cypher has been consistently getting some amazing guests for his new podcast and this time he is joined by Jagex Moderator Azanna. Jmod Azanna is one of the backend Jagex Community Managers who deals with a lot of the Subcommunities of RuneScape 3. In this lengthy interview, Rat has taken multiple questions from the community that have been asked to Jmod Azanna despite Rat and Azanna going off random tangents for a good portion of the interview. Nonetheless, Jmod Azanna gives some very juicy answers and even some insights about the different RuneScape communities he interacts with daily.

RS3 Journey of Taskman Micks #71 (#runescape 3 Taskman Mode)

MickeyThaGamer
In my last month compilation, I provided an introductory video that explained the rules of Taskman and now wanted to spotlight one of the premier Taskman players in MickeyThaGamer. Aiming for Rank 1 in Taskman mode, Mickey is on Episode 71 of the series where he’s reaching ever closer to top 50 Taskman ranks. He’s currently completed all the Beginner and Easy Tasks and now is chugging through the Medium tier hoping he doesn’t roll one of the extremely long grinds in this progression video.

RuneScape’s BEST Skilling Aura: Jack Of Trades

IronArraxor
This really well edited video by IronArraxor is a return to form video which is him coming back to video posting due to a very busy initial few months of 2024. The video goes over the once highly controversial Jack of Trades Aura that a good percentage of the Ironman community heavily disliked. Despite this viewpoint, it has become an iconic daily that Mains and Ironmans utilize frequently and IronArraxor goes into full detail of what cost/input/reward of this amazing item. If you ever have long term plans for maxing in general, I would highly recommend checking this amazing guide video out.

RuneScape Has Horror in it Now? – OSRS Player Returns to RS3: Episode 9

Topher
If you haven’t been following along Topher’s videos of his exploration of RuneScape 3 coming from OSRS then you have been missing out. In another great video comparing his experiences between both games where he has been exploring the modern version of the game without guides, he provides excellent commentary of both the great stuff and the flaws in the current game on a new account. In this particular video he goes through numerous quests with the highlight being the iconic Broken Homes quest in RuneScape 3.

RuneScape in a nutshell

Rong Rong
Not a RuneScape 3 Content Creator however Rong Rong clearly plays the game and created this great animation about most of the iconic skills we have in RuneScape 3. This is an excellent video for sharing if you want to recommend RuneScape and then tell the person you’ll understand all the references after you play a bit.

Runescape’s Newest Quest Reward Packs A Punch! Soul Ring Review

The RS Guy
A much simpler video compared to the massive video he released last month; The RS Guy reviews the new Necromancy ring and where it fits in the current meta of the game. The video also does a great explanation of what abilities it synergizes with and where you should utilize the ring to its full potential. Short and simple video but the synergizing component of the video is something that I think people need to watch since that mechanic is massive for Slayer grind in my personal opinion.

SalamnderScape Rule the World

Elej
Elej is one of the leaders of the ScreenieScape community who has also previously been nominated multiple times for the Golden Gnome Awards. In this short video, she and the ScreenieScape community have taken over RuneScape as Salamanders! If you are interested in these fun activities, they are advertised on Discord and Twitter with large turnouts and often get noticed in the Weekly posts on the RuneScape website.

Should YOU get BiS Melee? Runescape 3

FroggieGames
A follow-up from last month’s video is this great analysis of Melee by Froggie Games. In this video he does a great job of breaking up the core aspects of Melee and where it fits in the current meta of the Game. I think if you plan to return to this iconic combat style or had fond memories of the style you should watch this video.

Slayer time… and we got lucky!! – Runescape Progress (#33)

Crunchie
I might have repeated this from last month too but for Slice of Life casual RuneScape 3 progression videos, Crunchie is at the best in this category for the content. She edits them really well, throws in a bunch of nice scenic shots of her real life and isn’t playing efficiencyscape. I recommend checking her content out simply to see the style of videos since they are a lot more unique than most other progression style videos.

Telos Into [Animation]

PupRS
Experimenting in a different domain, this animation which was utilized in one of TheRSGuy’s videos is Pups first animation to date. Posted on Twitter or X initially, this hyped me up for the Telos Bossing video days before it was actually released by TheRSGuy. Normally Pup is a PvM and Clue Maestro but him exploring some new content for RuneScape 3 is awesome to see and I personally can’t wait to see his next animation.

The “best” way to play RuneScape 3

Pixel Hippie
Most people who play Old School RuneScape know of the iconic UltraHardcore Ironman Mode or simply referred to UIM. In RuneScape 3 we do not have this game mode however the concept has been attempted by a few content creators which I have listed in my Content Creator List. Well let’s turn it up a notch and do it on a Controller is what Pixel has decided in his latest series. Watch his latest journey where he is restricted to his 28 inventory spaces and no bank access while he plays Controller the whole time.

The FINAL upgrade for Best In Slot RANGED gear! Runescape Journey EP22

ChrisMelloRS
I will say out of this whole list, Chris has the best intros to his video uncontested. Every episode for this return to RuneScape series starts with a great short skit that really just makes the video enjoyable from the start of the episode. The content of the video showcases his experience with the progression of the game as a ironman and at the given moment his exploration into bossing with the Ranged style with the massive buffs the style had of late.

This will be HUGE for prayer RS3 Hardcore Ep.16

IronCoachH
Someone mentioned in my last March post for this topic, to add folks with personality and IronCoachH exemplifies personality. This video showcases his progress for reaching the front page of the Hardcore Ironman HiScores and he narrates his progress over the course of the video. Unfortunately, he is months behind compared to his Twitch progress but even with his highly shortened videos you can see that exuberant personality he showcases on his Livestreams. He’s a solid fun watch especially if you ever have plans for how to progress a Hardcore Ironman.

Tick Perfect – Beastmaster Durzag (Unbeatable)

I Dps
There are multiple versions of this same kill since this was done in a team which included Papa Dor, Unge Spiller, I Dps (video creator), GodHeOwnzzz, DePose, I Call Dibs, The Dig Site, Saltea, kyroh and Praesul. This video is a bit more detailed and well edited compared to the other viewpoints where the creator showcases the ability rotations, all the involved PvM’ers and how they actually achieved the feat in the video. If you are confused for what exactly they accomplished in the video, the basic explanation is that they mechanically beat the boss in the fastest game time possible due to the new Melee changes as a result of the latest Combat Changes. If you are wanting to see different viewpoints, nearly all of these folks have posted videos on their own channel.

Vorkath’s Fall – RuneScape 3 Music

Yann
I am unfortunately one of those people who grew up playing the game in silence because I would be sneaking onto the computer to be playing RuneScape. However, I regret it heavily because I never really valued the amazing Original Sound Tracks that Jagex has created for RuneScape until I got much older. Yann who compiles all the original sound tracks that Jagex produces posts it on his channel for anyone wanting to relisten to them independently. This particular video is the soundtrack of the most iconic part of the new Requiem For A Dragon quest and is a must listen for anyone who hasn’t listened to it yet. On their channel you can find 3 other tracks from the quest that are also worth a listen.

What to do after getting Membership

Protoxx
A voice that most people are familiar with, Protoxx made this great video for how to utilize your membership if you have bought Membership recently. Its an excellent watch or share if you have any new friends or have started up again in a long time. One of the things that he mentions as his first big topic which I am going to repeat too, is that make sure you make a plan. The game has a lot of content and it can overwhelm you so making small goals, long goals or any particularly

Hola Muchacho is how we get introduced to Mr Jerel. With great editing and funny commentary, Jerel goes into an excellent overview of some of the biggest PvM nerfs in RuneScape 3’s history. It’s a very fun short video that you can easily share the video in all the RuneScape chats to get a conversation going.

The Dragon Mattock grind begins… Legalocked #12 – Legacy Locked Ironman RS3

Rheyo RS
I do not know how I missed Rheyo’s iconic Legacy Locked account video from last month, but it deserves to be on the list. This series focuses on utilizing the classical combat style that most people know vividly of due to Old School RuneScape or anyone who played Pre-2012. In this well edited series, the man explores some of the hardest bossing challenges which utilizes Legacy Necromancy and the other legacy styles as an Ironman. In this particular video he’s started his long grind at Big Game Hunter without the Surge or Dive abilities which is honestly fun and impressive to watch. He’s hinted in his latest social media posts that he did something crazy in the month of April for the account but he hasn’t posted the video yet, but if you know what he has hinted the next video should be amazing.

The Pain is Almost OVER Extreme Chunk Locked Ironman Episode 17

Chunk Yony
This iconic series known as Extreme Chunk Locked Ironman in Old School RuneScape by Limpwurt has been attempted in RuneScape 3. Follow the journey of Chunk Yony who as a student is still producing this unique series in his free time in his attempt to conquer all the Chunks in RuneScape 3. What is a Chunk? Well RuneScape was designed in memory fragments which consisted of a size of 150 game tiles by 150 game tiles which is a total of 22,500 game tiles. This account restricts itself based on these chunks that the game was designed around in that you can only progress after completing all the things available in that chunk that are possible. I know he has a newer episode released but this older video better represents the content he has been producing.

RuneScape 3, But My Combat Only is Being Followed #5

Lyfe
More notable for his Old School RuneScape series, Lyfe has still created one of the best unique account builds in RuneScape 3 with this Combat Only Ironman. In this particular video, you see some of the theorycrafting him and his buddies do to unlock very niche but big upgrades for the account. He has access to the shops for this Combat Only Ironman which is a bit different than the other RS3 Combat Only Ironman and he showcases how he utilizes the Shops to his advantage. I personally think he does an excellent job on editing, showcasing his progress compared to the last video and future goals really well and I think if you plan to watch this, you should actually start from the start of the series to understand how he built this fun account.

2024.05.02 13:53 GlumEagle5470 SMS vs. WhatsApp Marketing: Choosing the Best Strategy for Your Business

For a century, voice calls were the only telecommunication option available for people not meeting face-to-face. Then came a pivotal moment when Neil Papworth sent the first ever SMS, a simple Christmas greeting to his boss at Vodafone, unknowingly setting the stage for the text messaging revolution. This innovation would eventually lead to the rise of messaging applications, now used by millions worldwide.
Today, WhatsApp stands as the leading instant messaging app, with billions of users sending over 100 billion messages daily. It’s on track to hit 500 million monthly active users in India alone. WhatsApp messages boast an impressive 99% open rate, with most messages read within 5 minutes of receipt. Users have shown a preference for receiving marketing messages via WhatsApp over other channels, signifying a shift in communication preferences.
SMS, once the go-to method for personal communication, has largely been relegated to service providers for sending one-time passwords. WhatsApp has surpassed SMS in affordability i.e. SMS pricing, user preference, and functionality, offering the ability to send rich media content, including images, videos, documents, and locations.
For use cases like user authentication, businesses still rely on SMS verification.
Despite its diminished role in personal chats, SMS remains a potent marketing tool for businesses. This article explores SMS vs WhatsApp marketing, highlighting their benefits and key differences to help you decide the best approach for your business.

What is SMS Marketing?

SMS marketing leverages text messaging to promote products or services through promotional campaigns or transactional messages. Initially a personal communication tool, businesses soon discovered its potential for reaching broad audiences, incorporating it into their marketing strategies. SMS marketing requires only a mobile phone to activate.
SMS messages can be categorized as:
Marketing campaigns: Bulk messages for sharing event details, updates, alerts, discount offers, etc.
Transactional messages: Individual messages triggered by specific actions, such as shipping notifications.

Advantages of SMS Marketing

Compared to WhatsApp marketing, SMS marketing offers unique benefits:
