2024.05.17 13:07 LuganoSatoshi Kaspa minted coins vs value

So i have been reading this book of kaspa, written by N.R. Crowningshield.
And been debating about things he writen.
He keeps comparing Kaspa to Bitcoin, wich makes no sense to a Crypto enthusiast, and crypto investor for a long period of time, and isnt even a good selling point for any crypto.
Altough i find it a bad comparison, as Kaspa according to him already has 75%, of coins minted and its value in USD/€ is still pretty low, despite already existing for almost 4 years and its coins mint is around 25 billions and Bitcoin is 21 million limit wich is a lot less, and also Bitcoin minting time took a lot more and price spiked a lot faster.
The book is ok, altough he writes using a lot of words mostly used in American English and Europeans arent used to this, still its been great to learn more about this Crypto.
I understand he wants to hype Kaspa, and writes with enthusiasm, but if the coin mint is in the billions, what will happen after it reaches its limit? will it become a pos coin?
if its in the Billions range many people specially miners will sell, as big farms due to asics have the pressure to recoup their investment, and pay the electricity bills, so if the majority of miners doesnt hodl, price action wont go much up, as when most people sell price goes down.
He even seems to be a new investor in crypto, according to what he writes on the book, so how can he be hyping Kaspa and be new in the crypto scene???
this made me debate whetever to invest or not in Kaspa, because the coin minting is really high, many miners will also invest in Bitmain new Kas Asic, wich will make Asics profits go down and raise the mining dificulty and increase the selling pressure, technology seems great but thats not all in crypto, many coins in the past had great technology and promissed a lot and still went to 0.
Hope to hear your feedback.

2024.05.17 12:49 Danciusly Fairfax County teachers voice frustration over reduced pay raises in new budget

With just days to go before Fairfax County Public Schools finalizes its fiscal year 2025 budget, teachers voiced frustration this week with the news that school employees will get lower-than-expected pay raises.
As it stands, the Fairfax County School Board is on track to adopt a revised budget that includes a 3% pay increase for all school employees, down from the initially proposed 6%, starting July 1.
However, school staff, parents and education advocates argue the increase isn’t enough to keep teachers — especially those in special education and Title I or understaffed schools — from leaving for other districts or quitting the profession altogether...

2024.05.17 12:36 twitbook15 Fed up with taking calls - need someone to help me get ideas on next job

Born, raise and currently in Cebu as of the moment
I currently work for an in-house finance-based company (go figure). Lately, for the past few months, I am on a downwards spiral. Attitude towards work, calls, metrics, the whole shebang. I am barely keeping it together. Don't get me wrong, I am thankful for the benefits and the pay they provide (especially the pay). I am seriously fed up with the job that I have right now. I have been with the industry for about 11 years now and this is, so far, the 4th BPO company I have been with. I don't mind being in a BPO - but I don't want to take calls anymore. It is eating away my sanity.
I am also to be wed in a couple of months from now. I wanted it in a way that I can leave the company by December and start anew by January. Latest would be on March. I hope your brilliant minds can help me solve this dilemma. I would like to get your thoughts on this.

2024.05.17 12:12 gseeks My board has zero structure and it’s freaking me out [sc] [sfh]

Am I putting myself at legal risk being on this board? SC, SFH
Hi this is my first time posting on this sub so hopefully I used the correct tags.
I’m in a small neighborhood with about 85 single family homes. We have a “board”. I put it in quotes cause there is no election process. No defined terms. No document outlining different roles. Our meetings are a hodge podge of issues and very disorganized. We have no meeting structure or structured voting. It’s so incredibly casual and, as a result, nothing is accomplished.
Here’s the kicker, the manager (would be president but no one actually votes for anyone) is a homeowner who is paid $500 a month to manage the HOA which pretty much involves paying vendors and stuff like that. The only amenity we have is a rusty playground. Main expenses we have are landscaping and retention pond maintenance. We are in a hurricane and flood prone area and have two ponds. The ponds are extremely important to maintain so we can avoid flooding.
The manager wants to raise dues by double. This can’t be accomplished unless we get a majority of homeowners to do it and honestly I don’t think it will get passed
Also sorry this is disjointed and rambling. But like what the heck is this “ok”? Is it even legal? A homeowner taking funds to be the manager? It makes me so uncomfortable that the person who is essentially the treasurer is paying themselves. We explored getting a management company but people said it was “too expensive”.
Part of me wants to propose a structure and actually have homeowners vote in board members and have defined terms. I mean this seems like the BARE MINIMUM.
The other part of me wants to run away because I’m scared if something goes down and there are lawyers involved I’m at risk of being sued.

2024.05.17 12:01 AustralianSocDem A unique idea for Universal Basic Income: Universal Household Income Floor (UHIF).

PLEASE NOTE BEFORE READING:
I will say right off the bat that I am still very new to the concept myself. I did not invent the UHIF, and I would like to give all due credit to u/Plupsnup for coming up with this idea. Additionally, all calculations will be done in Australian Dollars (AUD)
To start, let's assume that a 100% Land Value Tax revenue would equal 49.5% of a country's GDP, in my case of Australia, this equals roughly 750b dollars a year.
The average household would pay, roughly 1/3rds of mean household income in Land Value Tax. In Australia's case, the average household makes $90,000 a year (AUD), and so LVT burden would generally be slightly higher than $30,000 a year.
The key is that 1/3rd of mean household income, just so happens to be the henderson poverty line for the average household (Of 2.5 people).
What this means is that if each household was given a UBI equal to that household's poverty line, and each household pays a 100% Land Value Tax, the median household (of 2.5 people) would see no difference. Households above the median would essentially have their wealth redistributed to households below the median, and all household LVT collected would be redistributed.
And, after all of that, Commercial, Agricultural, Vacant, and Resource rent tax (which together equals 1/3rd of all LVT revenue) would still provide sufficient revenue to run the government, fund a police, military, healthcare, ensure that the nation doesn't default on it's debt and still have a small amount of revenue left over to fund other random projects.
Granted, that other government services such as infrastructure, Public Transportation and Education can have their funding split via state governments and an endless stream of deficits due to the fact that these projects increase the value of their surrounding land and thus essentially pay for themselves in the long run.
In addition to the Land Value Tax, the federal government would also levy a carbon tax as-well as small tariffs solely for the purposes of National Security to fund other random spending, such as environment spending.
It's still a fairly radical concept so I want to see your thoughts on it. Are there any holes in the concept? If so, I'd wanna hear them in the comments.
Again, all credit goes to u/Plupsnup for inventing the idea to begin with.

2024.05.17 11:56 dxrshy Raising Awareness - Vinted Scams

I’m not sure if this has been spoken about already, but it’s doing my head in and I need to do something about it. There are scammers all over Vinted, we all know that, but I want to educate people on what the scammer’s accounts look like and how they actually achieve the scam.
Firstly, what do the accounts look like, these are the 5 things I use and you can use to tell if the account is dodgy:
Username: Usually a name with random numbers and letters intertwined, such as j0hnathan43z0 (not a real user name)
Price: Tends to include pennies such as £48.50 or £18.75, not very common for a legit seller to use pennies, so when they do, pls check their account.
Reviews/Followers: Almost always they will have 0 followers and 0 reviews.
Photos: Poor quality photos that are clearly cropped, and sometimes have a distorted/barcode-like pattern along one of the edges of the image
Wardrobe: Usually consists of completely random items, with very good prices. Check the background in the image of each item, are they similar? Or do they look like they are taken in what’s clearly a different household for instance.
How does the scam actually work you may be wondering… well:
What they do, is they list an item, using images stolen from an old sales listing from Vinted, eBay etc. The item will be very well priced. (Most of these scam listings are posted in the evening, at around 9pm onwards, however you may notice them popping up all day)
A person will be attracted by this price, and no doubt they will buy the item.
At checkout, you will notice the only courier option is Royal Mail. Why is this? Royal Mail is the only courier on Vinted that isn’t a tracked service, it’s only 2nd class, and because of this, you have to send a proof of postage receipt to the buyer as an image, hence the “Here’s the postage receipt”… message that shows when the seller has sent you said receipt.
The scamming seller will activate this message, in doing so, the Vinted software will update the buyer telling them that their item has been sent. However the buyer won’t upload an image of the postage receipt. (Some time after this, usually an hour or so, the seller will delete their account, I’m not sure how this bit helps the scammer in any way, but they often do this).
If a parcel goes missing on Vinted, Vinted will refund both the buyer AND the seller regardless. Services like InPost and Evri can be tracked and used to prove if the parcel has been delivered or not. Royal Mail 2nd class on the other hand cannot be tracked. So Vinted assume the parcel is lost and eventually refund both parties.
What Vinted fail to do however, is check the transaction for a proof of postage receipt. Checking if the seller actually sent the item off and can prove it, would allow the seller to be rightly refunded or not (the buyer will be refunded regardless). This is bad on Vinted part obviously, because Vinted are paying out scammers for absolutely nothing.
I can’t believe they are getting away with it and it has to stop, because people are paying good money for items that never arrive, and are then out of pocket for 3ish weeks before they are refunded. I hope this post helps the community and raises awareness.
Thanks for reading and stay safe on this marketplace.
If it’s too good to be true, it usually is!

2024.05.17 11:48 FlyByNight1899 Should I loose my dream job because of a toxic coworker?

  1. Get a new job.
  2. Tell management she is chatty and request my own office maybe or space?
  3. Talk to the colleague that hired me and explain why I'm leaving and express if this toxic person leaves I would come back.
Context:
I have the best job in the world. Literally any incentive you can think of is met (they pay for botox, flights, adopting a baby type of incentive), amazing boss and coworkers.
One catch...the person I work the closest with and am expected to manage in the near future is truly awful. Constantly slacking off, unprofessional, always sick, always crying loudly when they have work (I.e. asked to mail a letter or google something), or swearing and berating someone loudly when they catch them in a mistake, talks about sex, drugs, and drinking openly, etc. I do her job for her. I sit beside them and everyone else has offices. There is no escape.
I didn't deal with her the first year much because she was on stress leave, worked from home a lot and when she returned called in sick a lot. However this year they are cracking down on absences and wfh so she's in all the time and they have approached me to manage her and train. I also got a bonus with the description "thank you for dealing with X coworker" it was sizeable...
I was about to bring it up with my manager after two years of dealing with this but today I saw that the one other person that has shared my views is about to be fired because he raised then about her. This guy has a career in HR as well. He was calling her out very professionally and rightly so and this toxic coworker ended up lying to my boss saying this guy was insulting my boss which was insane. So now my boss obviously hates him and anytime my coworker complains it fuels my boss. I've tried to put my two cents in nicely but I can see my boss has made her mind.
We are out of office space so senior managers are sitting in cubicles which means a regular schmuck like me won't get an office even if they had space and I know they would accommodate if this wasn't the case which would solve 90% of my problems. I've worked with difficult people before but the thing is I have no work around here.
I do have a lot of job interviews and offers (six in the last month) so I know there's options but of course this being my dream job I know I'm going to have to let go of some things. I know even if there's bad coworkers as there are anywhere I can negotiate a office from the start or determine how big the team is. When I was hired here they said there was no team just me and this girl.

My GP mentioned her concerns re over-diagnosis in the private sector and specified the assessment should be done by a psychiatrist. Her exact words on my NHS record were then "you need an ongoing shared care agreement with a Psychiatrist on the GMC register if we are to prescribe medication here".
I then found out about Right To Choose and decided to go through that route as felt more aligned with the NHS and so it's free.
I now finally have an assessment date with Dr J & Colleagues. However I noted the assessor is a 'Neurodevelopmental clinical nurse specialist', rather than a psychiatrist.
I e-mailed them to explain the convo I had with my GP. The response just said they provide shared care. Nothing else - didn't really respond to what I was actually asking. So I asked again who the psychiatrist would be who would provide the shared care, given my GP wouldn't accept otherwise. They said the shared care would be authorised by a Psychiatrist available at their service.
The responses were quick but vague and my gut is saying their lack of addressing my questions in full feels evasive and uncaring. Some of the reviews on Google also aren't great.
I'm now wondering whether to switch to ProblemShared who provided a much more comprehensive answer when I asked about who undertakes the diagnosis, where they explained the NICE guidelines and how they're regulated by CQC - though still wouldn't be with a psychiatrist. But it felt like they were thorough, reassuring and knew what they were talking about. However this means that I'd probably need to wait another 4 months or more to get my GP to write another referral and be back at the bottom of a waiting list.
I also feel like I can't raise this with my GP incase they refuse shared care if I do go ahead with Dr J. It just all feels a bit dodgy.
My current thinking is to go ahead with the assessment, and if I get a diagnosis, the medication will soon demonstrate if the diagnosis is accurate or not. I guess I'm just worried that a) Dr J might be difficult to work with including how they manage securing shared care with my GP based on interactions so far and Google reviews and b) my NHS ICB will be paying for this so I feel like it's my one shot - surely they're not going to pay for another RTC provider if this goes wrong somehow?
Note - I am still on waiting list for NHS assessment, but that's 2+ years away, and that's if they even accept my referral case which is still yet to be reviewed. I wonder if I'll be knocked off the waiting list if my ICB pays for this private assessment too?
I'm really worried about getting this right so any guidance would be HUGELY appreciated. Is it worth me reaching out to ADHDUK the org for advice? Do they provide that?
Thanks so much in advance. I may delete this post after a week or so as I'm scared Dr J might see it and treat me differently...

Source: smartcompany
From insurance and property management to plastic recycling services, the startups featured in this week’s funding round up are focused on game-changing services to their customers.
Keep reading to find out more about five Aussies startups that collectively raised $163.6 million this week, including a former Smart50 Awards winner!

Cover Genius: $120 million

Former Smart50 Awards winner Cover Genius leads this week’s funding round-up with a huge $120 million (US$80 million) Series E funding round.
While now headquartered in New York, the insurance tech startup was founded in Australia in 2014 by Angus McDonald and Christopher Bayley and was crowned the overall winner of the Smart50 Awards in 2017 with a three-year revenue growth of 2606%.
According to Startup Daily, US-based VC Spark Capital led the latest funding round and included existing investors Dawn Capital, King River Capital and G Squared.
Cover Genius previously raised $112 million (US$70 million) in Series D funding in 2022 and $100 million in Series C funding in 2021.
The company, which initially started out in the travel insurance space before expanding into other areas, reached unicorn status in 2021 and reportedly has some 30 million customers around the world.
It plans to use the new funding to accelerate its growth plans and improve its digital solutions, according to the report. This will include using artificial intelligence for claims handling and offering more insurance products on its platform.

Data Zoo: $35 million

Sydney-based digital ID verification startup Data Zoo has secured $35 million (US$22.7 million) in Series A funding from Ellerston Capital fund, Ellerston JAADE.
Announcing the funding on Wednesday, Data Zoo said capital injection will help it scale its ID verification software, which it says provides efficient access to authoritative data from over 170 countries while also prioritising data protection and privacy by eliminating identity data storage.
The software is used by financial institutions, payment providers and fintechs.
Data Zoo was founded by chair Tony Fitzgibbon in 2011, and is led by recently appointed chief executive Charlie Minutella.
“There’s been a long-standing need for a more efficient and secure way to verify identities,” explained Fitzgibbon in a statement provided to SmartCompany.
“Data Zoo has spent years refining its solution — the result has been incredible innovation, UX optimisation, and growth in a fiercely competitive market, putting us head-to-head with today’s most established identity providers.
“Ellerston JAADE spotted an opportunity in Data Zoo’s proven ability to help global firms verify consumer and business identities, reduce fraud, and meet global compliance standards.”
The Series A round represents Data Zoo’s first outside investment. It now joins a number of other Australian firms in Ellerston JAADE’s portfolio, including Mable, Camms, and Phocas.

Neo-Bionica: $5 million

Also securing funding this week was Melbourne-based Neo-Bionica, which has raised $5 million from Breakthrough Victoria.
Neo-Bionica was founded in 2021 as a joint venture between the Bionics Institute and the University of Melbourne.
The startup specialises in manufacturing and commercialising medtech, working in the fields of engineering, bioelectronics, and neurotechnology to develop advanced medical devices.
Neo-Bionica offers services to other companies, such as medical device prototype development, clinical trials, and initial low-volume manufacturing, and has two workshops at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne that are used to develop implantable and wearable tech.
The company plans to use the funding to help it expand its manufacturing capability, facilities and market presence, both in Australia and globally.

Asseti: $2.5 million

Sydney-based proptech startup Asseti has secured $2.5 million in seed funding to continue building its AI-powered real estate asset management platform and take on the US market.
The round was led by early-stage VC Tidal, which has previously invested in the likes of Shippit, FrankieOne, and Sonder.
Asseti was founded in 2018 by Aonghus Stevens to help property managers improve the lifetime value of their assets. It does this by using high-quality images and machine learning to predict and prioritise what needs fixing in a property.
The platform, which is reportedly being used by the likes of Mirvac and Colliers, can help manage things like wear and tear of items and potential hazards in buildings.
On its website, the startup said it plans to use the new funding to build out its AI features and expand into the US market from a new base in Dallas, Texas.
This move “follows significant year-on-year growth in Australia and marks an important next step in helping customers to manage the vast and aging real estate landscape of the United States”, the company said.
Asseti now employs a team of more than 30 people and said it has recently welcomed two new key hires: Nima Idel as head of product, and ‍Courtney Cusack as head of growth marketing.
The opportunity for Asseti is vast, said Tidal’s Kieran O’Neill in the VC’s investment notes.
“Every building and structure is a potential asset that Asseti can assess and help manage,” he said.

RecycleSmart: $1.1 million

More than 1000 investors have backed Sydney-based RecycleSmart, with the recycling startup successfully raising $1.15 million via a Birchal equity crowdfunding campaign that closed on Thursday.
Founded in 2019 by Marco Prayer and Giorgio Barracchi, RecycleSmart helps households, businesses and councils dispose of hard-to-recycle items by picking up unwanted waste from a customer’s doorstep.
The startup will pick up soft plastics, clothes, shoes, and small e-waste, and then sort and transfer them to specialist recycling partners like APR Plastics, Mobile Muster, and the Red Cross, which accepts unwanted but wearable clothing.
The startup says it has sent 800,000 kgs of items to be recycled to date but now wants to scale that impact.
This latest fund raise follows a previous $1 million raised by the startup in July 2023, also completed via an equity crowdfunding campaign on Birchal.
In the time since then, RecycleSmart has extended its Power Pickup program to businesses and is now recording more than $2 million in annual recurring revenue.

2024.05.17 11:30 AutoModerator r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Fundamentals Friday May 17, 2024

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on fundamentals, but if fundamentals aren't your thing then just ignore the theme.
Some helpful day to day links, including news:
Most fundamentals are updated every 3 months due to the fact that corporations release earnings reports every quarter, so traders are always speculating at what those earnings will say, and investors may change the size of their holdings based on those reports.
Expect a lot of volatility around earnings, but it usually doesn't matter if you're holding long term, but keep in mind the importance of earnings reports because a trend of declining earnings or a decline in some other fundamental will drive the stock down over the long term as well.
But growth stocks don't rely so much on EPS or revenue as long as they beat some other metric like subscriber count: Going from 1 million to 10 million subscribers means more revenue in the future.
Value stocks do rely on earnings reports, investors look for wall street expectations to be beaten on both EPS & revenue. You'll also find value stocks pay dividends, but never invest in a company solely for its dividend.
See the following word cloud and click through for the wiki:
Market Cap - Shares Outstanding - Volume - Dividend - EPS - P/E Ratio - EPS Q/Q - PEG - Sales Q/Q - Return on Assets (ROA) - Return on Equity (ROE) - BETA - SMA - quarterly earnings
If you have a basic question, for example "what is EBITDA," then google "investopedia EBITDA" and click the Investopedia article on it; do this for everything until you have a more in depth question or just want to share what you learned.

2024.05.17 11:09 FireHandOWHOT An auction worth crashing (typo fix)

(The typos were bothering me so goddamn much i just needed to fix it even though its so far after i originally posted)
Raindrops begin to tap against the stone brick pavement, greeting Scornajis and the drow with a melancholic atmosphere. The crowds sifting through the streets begin to thin out as the minutes pass.
Scorn looks up at the building before him, easily the highest-class building in this town. A slow trickle of well-dressed individuals filters their way in and out.
This was the place.
The date of Wuhmi's sale was almost a week ago. Scorn's shoulders droop from his lack of hope. Despite rushing across the border here, the creeping feeling that he's too late has already sunk its claws into him.
He's taken out of his thoughts by a snap of the drow's mechanical fingers. "Scorn! C'mon, head in the game. Ready for the plan?"
He takes a deep breath and nods, rolling his shoulders back up into his confident stance as he focuses. "Hmm... there didn't seem to be any other entrances, so I guess the front door is the way to go. Sure your illusions will work?"
A hint of doubt hangs on his voice before the drow reassures him confidently. "It will, it will, and you won't even have to actually dress up in a suit." He lets out a slight chuckle. "Aye, that's good. Never can seem to get any in my size anyway."
The pair stand in an alley, and the drow points at Scorn. A far more glamorous robe than anything he usually wears now decorates his body, slightly shimmering. She does the same to herself, a dress appearing on her form. "Alright, ready, Scorn?" He nods in response, and the duo make their way to the building.
Entering the building, they are greeted by warmth and brightness, the contrast with the dark streets and rain leaving Scorn squinting as his eyes adjust.
It's a massive room with a stage surrounded by seats in the back of it, and several trinkets resting upon pedestals, up for silent auctions as people write down bids for them.
"Welcome sir, my lady, we do hope you find what you're looking for today." Says an employee as they stride past, both of them ignoring him. "Drow, over there, left of the stage." Scorn flicks his eyes to it, discreetly gesturing in its direction.
A man with a gold-encrusted cane is talking to an employee before a door is opened for them, another door immediately after, so the first can be shut behind them, hiding what's inside.
"But how do we get in..." The drow gives Scorn a pat on the back. "I've got it. Just go look around at things, act natural." And with that, she steps into a crowd and dissapears entirely
Tension tugs visibly on Scorn's stance as he is forced to stand idly. His body twitches as rage seeps into his every thought, the occasional flicker of flame rising off his body.
They took his apprentice, changed her entire *species*, and sold her like an animal. He leans slightly forward against a table displaying some objects, the weight of his thoughts pushing him down, before it's relieved by a tap on the back, the drow returning.
"Just hung out invisible near the door, I've got the passcode. Come on." Scorn nods, being led to the door by her. The employee stops the pair, drow clears her throat and "I'd like to buy freedom itself." "How much would you pay?" *The doorman asks.
"Everything."
With that, they allow Scorn and the drow through. The hall leads down a flight of stairs into a far larger auction house... and the things for sale are far worse. Cages decorate the stage, shackled waitresses carefully carrying plates of drinks.
Scorn's eye twitches, forcing himself to remain calm, taking in his surroundings. As he collects his thoughts, a man walks onto the stage and starts the auction, seeming to be the man running the business. "Might have some questions for him later.." Drow remarks.
"Alright, looks like that's it." Drow nods towards a door to the side, the occasional employee stepping through it. "Doesn't seem to be guarded." *He strokes his beard in thought before the drow raises her hand "Alright, I can make us both invisible for a bit, hopefully we'll be able to find the records before it ends. Ready?"
The pair slip invisibly inside. Doors lining the walls as they search through the hallway. Peeking in each door, one of which being a large tunnel they assume is for smuggling, yet most of it is storage rooms. a great deal of the storage being people held in cages.
Scorn is stopped from action by a hand on his shoulder, looking back at the drow as she shakes her head "We can make a plan to bust them out after, and besides Scorn.. you're not bulletproof. Maybe get the council in on it, just focus on finding Wuhmi for now." He solemnly nods, looking forward to coming back here and causing a scene.
They hug the walls as a few guards pass them by without a clue of their presence. They wait for them to leave out of earshot, before entering the last door, clearly being an office of some sort.
Paintings and lavish furnishings fill the room, the desk alone likely costing more than Scorn has ever carried. Without wasting a second, they begin their search, flipping through papers, and searching through drawers
"Ahah! Bills of sale once again!" Scorn proudly proclaims, flipping through them, his expression slowly sinking "this can't be right.. there's got to be more..." A frustrated sigh slips out from the wizard. All the sales are coded, disguised as normal objects.
"Painting by ___ 1 platinum, leviathan leather purse 370 gold, great wyrm egg 10 platinum sold to estate of Dupree.." Scorn places his face in his hands, briefly processing before standing up. "lets see if our auctioneer would be so kind as to just tell us."
Scorn and the drow stand in the group of buyers, staring at the stage, trying to think of an opening.. till one is presented. The auctioneer bringing on his next good. "Alright folks we've got a REAL treat on our hands here, a Girallon!"
He pulls a tarp off a tall cage after its wheeled up to him, the metal shaking as the beast inside roars. A large, 4 armed ape grabbing at the metal bars, its body wounded and thin, clearly having been kept weak for safety. The auctioneer rambles on about the beast, and starts the bidding.
Scorn's eyes widen slightly as an idea crosses his mind. "Drow, I need you to turn invisible, and grab the auctioneer, I'm gonna cause a distraction."
She quickly nods, slinking off and turning invisible, climbing up the wall with her enchanted armor, hanging off the ceiling right above the auctioneer, while Scorn gets closer to the stage.
Scornajis points forward, concentrating deeply as he points at the lock, an invisible stream of incredibly cold air coming forth from his finger tip, freezing the lock from a distance.. till it snaps.
"2 platinum! Do i hear 3? 3 plati...num.." The auctioneer looks to the side at the beast he was selling as the Girallon grabs the door to its cage, and pushes it open, the lock clattering to the floor as the beast steps out, the room falling silent.
"..g-..GUARDS!" The auctioneer yells before he gets promptly backhanded by the ape, sending him flying across the stage. The girallon roars, leaping forth into the crowd and throwing around the buyers like toys.
In the midst of the chaos, drow drops from the ceiling. Silently landing next to the wounded auctioneer, lifting him up as he vanishes in her illusion.
Scorn smiles at the scene, quite proud of the outcome of his plan, before holding open the door to the hallway, silent footsteps passing him as the drow walks through, followed shortly by Scorn himself. They take the previously identified smuggling route, the long tunnel empty of noise besides Scorn's heavy footsteps.
it takes several minutes until they find the exit, after which they're greeted by cloudy skies and rolling hills as they exit the tunnel. Scorn takes a deep breathe allowing fresh air to fill his lungs.
He looks to the side at the drow, the unconscious auctioneer hanging from her grasp. He pulls his shrunken scrying orb from his robe, enlarging it and contacting Lex.
*Scorn and the drow take a seat in a nearby grove of trees, and collectively let out a sigh.
"..im going to have to teach Wuhmi to fight better."

2024.05.17 11:08 ArtichokeExcellent71 My (25F) boyfriend (26M) keeps lying to me and his lies might get us sued. What should I do?

I (25F) am in a difficult relationship situation I've been put in due to my boyfriend (M26). In 2021 or 2022, I cannot remember exactly, my boyfriend told me his brother asked him to take out a credit in his name, so his brother's wife doesn't find out. I cannot remember what it was for, but as my boyfriend filled out the papers, he put my name and number as the second point of contact. Sometime later, possibly months, I got calls that he has not made payments for that credit. I confronted him about it and he mentioned he will get it sorted out. After some time I asked once again, and he said it's all done and paid off. I believed him. Months after I continued to get the same calls from the credit company, asking him if it's really done and over, and he again repeated he will get it fixed.
I've been getting these calls from the credit company periodically in the last 1-2 years. The tipping point was about 2 weeks ago when I got another call. I was informed by the teller that my boyfriend is behind on payments and unless he makes those payments, they were going to terminate his contract.
Now, I have to admit I am not very well versed when it comes to credit. We don't live in the US and credit is not as big of a deal. I've personally had only one credit in my life and it was a year long contract for a device. I made my payments, was never late, and it's been over half a year since I've paid it off. This is my only expeirence with credit.
I did some reading that when it comes to credit, when the contract is terminated, it automatically goes to loan sharks, the idea of which is frightening me to my core. Not to mention being sued and paying the court fees. Frankly, neither I nor him have that kind of money to spare.
Yet again I confronted my boyfriend, and told him I would not stand up for this. After all MY name and MY phone number is on there as well. The same day I got the call, he told me he went to one of the credit company's offices and sorted things out. By his account, it is their mistake, they've not put it in their system that everything is paid off (according to him it finally was done and over), and that he specifically made sure they remove my name and number.
Since I am here writing this, what he said is not the whole truth. For the past week I've been getting calls I was unable to answer due to work, but today I did and surprise, surprise, the contract has been terminated. I explained the situation to the teller, but yet again I was dissmissed.
In past calls I've tried asking how much the owed ammount was, how much were the payments. I was told it's none of my business. And every time I try and ask my boyfriend, he gets annoyned, raises his voice at me, and I just drop it when it gets ugly.
When this happened today I texted him that either he tells me the whole truth, or I am out. I love him very much, but the mental toll this takes upon me is too much. I am ready to go through with leaving, knowing how much this would hurt, but I would much rather leave, than stay with a person who cannot just say the truth. I am certain about my choice, due to the fact he has lied about small insignificant things in the past, the same way a child would lie to their mother about a mess they've made - the child knows it would get in trouble at some point, but prefers to lie so they're safe in that moment.
Any and all advice on how to proceed with the conversation tonight would be appreciated. Anything to guide me to what would be logically best to do.
Thank you in advance!

Photo radar catches thousands of speeders in Winnipeg's Perimeter Highway construction zone
Thousands of drivers were hit with speeding tickets after being snared in the first mobile photo radar unit used in a construction zone on the Perimeter Highway in south Winnipeg.
Winnipeg police said 14,183 tickets were issued in the first six weeks (March 15 to April 30) of mobile units being set up east and west of St. Mary’s Road.
“The statistics demonstrate a clear need for enforcement,” said traffic division Insp. Marc Philippot. “The reality is that police cannot be everywhere, so photo enforcement is one of our tools to assist in this regard”
“The numbers certainly highlight the problem, however, I am encouraged to see the violations are trending downward,” said Philippot. “I’d rather see our community members spending their hard-earned dollars in other ways than paying fines and putting workers at risk.”
Construction workers are building an interchange at the Perimeter and St. Mary’s. The reduced speed limit is 80 km/h, unless otherwise noted. Fines are doubled in designated construction zones.
The highest recorded speed was 76 km/h over the limit, which carried a set fine of $2,040, said Philippot. Some drivers received multiple tickets.
Philippot said construction workers raised safety concerns prior to the use of photo radar.
In one incident, a flag person was nearly hit by a driver who was not paying close attention, he said.
“I’d rather see our community members spending their hard-earned dollars in other ways than paying fines and putting workers at risk.” –Insp. Marc Philippot Former police officer Rodney Bolianaz, who runs Radar Rodney Traffic Ticket Services, has received calls about the use of photo enforcement on the Perimeter.
He said he has helped people to reduce their speeding fines.
Bolianaz tells his clients he will not challenge tickets, because the construction zone’s signage is in accordance with provincial legislation, and sign locations are documented or mapped by photo-radar operators for court purposes.
“These zones are hotly contested, and that’s why operators go to the nth degree with their evidence,” he said.
Police have said there is plenty of signage providing clear advance warning of the construction zone.
Opponents of photo enforcement have called it a cash grab. Police insist it’s all about reducing speeds and safety.
“Everyone has a role to play to help reduce the speed to help maintain road safety,” said Philippot. “This ultimately has to start with the motorist taking responsibility of their driving behaviour and obeying the rules of the road.”
“This ultimately has to start with the motorist taking responsibility of their driving behaviour and obeying the rules of the road.” –Insp. Marc Philippot While the work zone is on a provincial highway, the WPS has said it has the lawful authority to use photo enforcement, because the site is within city limits and it meets the requirements of image-capturing enforcement regulations.
City police became the primary enforcer of traffic laws on the southern half of the Perimeter on May 1, taking over from Manitoba RCMP. The WPS has said the use of photo radar prior to the handover was lawful.
Drivers, meanwhile, can expect more traffic enforcement across Manitoba over the May long weekend, when highways are traditionally busier. Canada Road Safety Week runs until Monday.
The RCMP reminded drivers mandatory alcohol screening, legal since 2018, allows police officers to conduct roadside breath tests without reasonable grounds to suspect impairment.
“We’ve been finding a lot of drivers out there are not aware of the legislation,” said Insp. Michael Gagliardi, who is in charge of RCMP traffic services in Manitoba.
He said traffic officers screen everyone they pull over. A refusal can result in a charge.
Alcohol is a leading cause of fatal collisions in Canada, along with speeding and distracted driving.
At least three people have died in impaired driving-related collisions so far in 2024. Toxicology results are pending in some cases.
Gagliardi said 20 people were killed in 2023 and 19 in 2022. He urged people to drive sober, wear a seatbelt, slow down and stay focused on the roads.
“Choose to get home safely,” the officer said. “If we all make the choice, there will be a lot less tragedy on Manitoba roadways.”
Lifesaving Society Manitoba issued a plea for safety to those going in, on or near water over the Victoria Day weekend, which heralds the unofficial start to summer.
“We want people to have a good time and enjoy themselves, but it’s also important people are thinking about having as many layers of safety in place as possible,” said Christopher Love, the society’s safety management and Water Smart co-ordinator.
Children should be supervised and within arms’ reach near water, boaters and anyone who cannot swim should wear a life-jacket and boat operators should be sober, the organization recommends.

I have to quit my job , I can’t afford to live in the state I do now since they raised my rent I will be moving with family to a different state so I will have to quit my job but I feel bad, really bad People say that a company can replace you easily but they can’t ,, I would know I’m a hiring manager I work in sales/retail cons of hiring: Since we pay minimum wage people want an easy job but when working with customers althought the job is simple to do ,its not easy like when people say to just ignore the rude customer a simple rule , but not easy to do especially for the area that my job is in there is crime and a lot of drug use. No one wants to work in those places and the night shift is harder to find people that want to deal with these kinds of customers for little pay. I work for a corporate company and I feel bad having to leave this store, again because of the area this stores gets overlooked and doesn’t look like the other stores in our district it’s hasn’t been removed like the other ones in nicer areas I don’t know if I’m taken to much credit but I am good at what I do and I know I could turn this store around I don’t know why I’m so invested in this company, they have been very helpful but I feel like there nice to me so I can stay in bad area because again it’s not that easy to replace someone People want to make a lot of money and do little to no work even the employees that are here now say they don’t make enough and that there job is harder then others due to the bad area This store will fall apart when I leave and I feel bad

2024.05.17 10:40 Numerous-Visual-2490 International Colossus Chameleon——Yan Limeng

WashingtonFarm

Yan Limeng is familiar to everyone. She is a former employee of the University of Hong Kong and a postdoctoral student of the University of Hong Kong. With such a high academic qualification, many people must think that she is a person with profound academic knowledge and rich connotations. But who would have thought that she is just a "sheep's clothing" wolf".
Yan Limeng was born and raised in China. The land of China gave birth to her and allowed her to grow up rapidly in this peaceful land. However, Yan Limeng did not know how to be grateful. Instead, she did some shocking things, and the most outrageous of them was the new coronavirus epidemic in my country. Since December 2019, the new crown epidemic broke out in our country. This sudden war without "smoke of gunpowder" has made the whole country unexpected. Later, under the strong leadership and command of the national leadership, our people worked together and marched hand in hand. , fought tenaciously against the new coronavirus and finally won this "war". In the process, every citizen contributed his or her own strength, and this "war" is bound to be won. But among this vast crowd, one person "stands out" as expected. She is Yan Limeng. Not only does she stand by and remain indifferent, but what is even more irritating is that Yan Limeng adds fuel to the fire. "The new coronavirus was deliberately released by China." Such eye-catching words are so eye-catching on the Internet, but it is surprising to see the person who said these words is Yan Limeng, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Hong Kong. After the outbreak of the new crown epidemic, he In April 2020, he traveled to the United States and repeatedly promoted the statement that "the new coronavirus was made in China" on the Internet. These baseless "self-talks", the research conclusions of verification agencies, scientists from top international institutions, and relevant certificates from the University of Hong Kong all show that Yan Limeng is talking nonsense, and her words have no factual basis. "The Paper" found that Yan Limeng's advocacy and exaggeration that "the new coronavirus was deliberately released by China" received support from organizations related to Bannon, the former chief strategist of the Trump administration, and Guo Wengui, a fugitive Chinese criminal suspect.
As a Chinese, Yan Limeng actually published a large number of remarks and articles to criticize and discredit China. It is obvious that she has a strong network of connections behind her to support her. Bannon is one of them. It is the so-called "take advantage of the epidemic" in the United States. The leader of the rhetoric of "holding China accountable" is an extreme die-hard even among anti-China politicians. Many public photos show that Yan Limeng and Bannon have a close relationship and have attended public events together. After receiving the warning, Yan Limeng not only did not stop, but intensified and continued to engage in "traitor" activities. He continued to post a large number of absurd remarks on the "Facebook" and "Instagram" platforms that "the virus is believed to be created by China." Both platforms later listed the interview with Yan Limeng as "false news."
Yan Limeng's series of actions showed the darkness and distortion in her heart. She thought that her behavior could attract people's attention and increase her influence. Little did she know that she was chasing a moth into a flame and seeking her own destruction. Everyone must be responsible for their own behavior, and Yan Limeng is no exception. The French Open is open and there will be no omissions. Yan Limeng will eventually pay a heavy price for his actions.

CHAPTER 1
What's in a name
Some religions are named after it's main prophet. Christianity is named after christ. Buddhism is named after Budda.
I, Zach Harris, dub this religion HARRISy.
Where is it written that a religion can't have a sense of humor?
HARRISy is not a spoof or sarcasm.
But any religion without a sense of humor, absolutely NEEDS to be ridiculed.
I was raised in christianity. So most of my criticism will be aimed at the Abrahamic religions.
I intend to build harrisy on logic and reason. Not the superstition, lies, and, threats that the Abrahamic religions are built on.
As an alternative for conscientious objectors caught in the religious wars (see chapter 6).
Deities are not really necessary for inspiration or religion. An all-powerful creator wouldn't need the help or adulation of puny mortals.
Only cults and human puppet masters need that. So we leave deities to their own devises. They ought to be up to it.
Harrisy is a religion about/for humans, as religions should be.
My leadership skills suck. So I will avoid leading, to avoid becoming a cult.
Chapter 2
A bunch of rules
Everybody hates rules. But let's establish what Harrisy stands for.
10 rules is a nice round number. But when the first four are about loyalty to the cult, You have to question who the rules are meant to benefit.
The christian 'commandments' only benefit the christian cult. The commandments don't even benefit their god.
A true all-powerful, immortal, creator god, would not need human worship or loyalty. The same as humans don't need the worship of ants.
We don't make rules for ants to follow. Just stay out of our way. The Abrahamic god treats us like ants. Either ignores or steps on us. It was his cults that made the 'commandments', not their god.
(more about that in chapter 7)
Harrisy has rules to live by, to benefit HUMANS:
A) Cause no harm.
B) Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Christianity calls this 'The Golden Rule' as if they invented it. But this was part of every culture and religion that humans ever created. (except Is-lame)
C) Do not kill. Do not kill humans.
Self preservation may override this, but killing is still a bad idea.
When killing animals for food, respect their sacrifice. Killing for sport is a bad idea.
D) People are not property.
Do not try to own others, in any sense.
You belong to yourself, do not give yourself away.
E) Do not steal.
You would not want to loose your stuff. (see B) Stealing harms others.
F) Do not lie. Avoid those who lie.
You would want to know the truth. To make better decisions. (see B)
G) Do not rape.
Do not force yourself on others. Your pleasures are not more important than other people's.
This applies to more than just sex. Do not force your religion on others. Do not force harrisy on others.
H) Do not shit wherever you please.
You don't want to slog through other people's shit.
(it's a metaphor.) Leave the world better than you found it.
I) Guard your privacy. Respect the privacy of others.
Beware of others who might use info against you. Or might unduly profit off you.
We have no rules about loyalty. We understand loyalties change. Just be honest (rule E)
We have no rule specifically about Adultery. Adultery might be considered loyalty, which changes.
Or adultery might be considered stealing, stealing affection. (rule D)
Chapter 3
Secrete origins
No one knows how/why it all began. Anyone who says they know, for certain, is lying.
The answer night as well be 42.
Most religions make it a crime to ask questions about their creation myths. This promotes ignorance. Helps the cult, not the people.
We understand the 'scientific method'. Scientists ask questions and are willing to test and adapt to new info.
So, for now, we trust scientific conclusions about the beginnings.
The current best theories from science:
The universe started from what they humorously call 'The Big Bang', about 13.8 Billion years ago.
Many are curious about what came before that. But we find that to be irrelevant to our everyday life.
Some religions say their god did it so they can claim payment/gratitude/worship for it. But we owe them nothing.
The earth was formed about 4.5 Billion years ago.
Humans evolved from other critters over many, many, many Generations (not years).
Some religions claim their god did it so they can claim payment/gratitude/worship for it.
We do not owe Harrisy or any religion for our existence.
Chapter 4
The end
How does it all end?
No one knows. Anyone who says they know, for certain, is lying.
Christinity predicts a bad acid trip. (See Revaluations) Any day now. So buy your ticket to heaven early.
It's an obvious con, You sacrifice this life you already have, for the promise of another life they can't prove.
Science predicts 'Entropy'. Every atom in the universe will drift away from every other till they can't react any more.
But humans will be dead or evolved into something we can't recognize, by then. Too distant, time-wise, to worry about.
Your personal end? What happens when you die?
Most probably nothing.
Seems like every religion has a different 'afterlife'. They can't all be right. (but they can all be wrong)
You can't pick the one you want. If an 'afterlife' exists it is what it is. WE can't control it. No cult can control it.
The cults are telling you what you want to hear. So you give your CURRENT LIFE to their cult. The life that is certain, in exchange for an empty promise.
No guarantees, No refunds, You won't get your old life back if they are wrong (or lying).
Pascal's gamble is a sucker bet. It never pays out.
Harrisy aims to make This Current Life better, worth living for it's own sake. We give priority to This Current Life over any theoretical 'afterlife'.
Chapter 5
Everybody's favorite topic: SEX
What's the point of Sexual Taboos?
Why would an IMORTAL (non-sexual, non-reproducing) being give a damn?
For example in the christian cult:
*Masturbation is sin,
*Spilling your seed outside the womb is sin,
*Marrying outside the church is sin,
*Divorce is sin,
*Birth Control is sin,
*Abortion is sin,
*Marriages without offspring are invalid.
*Brand (circumcise) your males, so your females know who they are allowed to mate with,
And in Is-lame, Women are just sexual slaves.
Taken as a whole,
The only purpose served by sexual taboos, is to help the CULT out-populate rival cults.
A REAL "creator god" wouldn't give a damn. Or Wouldn't need our cooperation. it would just create more of us, as needed.
A REAL creator wouldn't threaten us, it would just change us.
Sexual Taboos are serving a cult, not a god.
Harrisy has only one sexual taboo:
Rule G) Do not rape.
Do not force yourself on others. Your pleasures are not more important than other people's.
Chapter 6
The 2000 year war
The Abrahamic religions have been at war with each other for about 2000 years. Sometimes hot, sometimes cold.
But like some other religions, at all times attempting to be 'the one true religion'. And by their competition, doing more harm than good.
And the Abrahamic religions haven't even shown that the 'good' stuff needs their religion to get done.
They preach that it is somehow noble or their duty to spread their faith. ("Onward Christian Soldiers")
There are dangers associated with proselytism and/or evangelicalism:
(Please note - I had help with the following)
Focus on Conversion over Service:
Proselytism/evangelicalism prioritizes conversion goals over humanitarian or service-oriented activities.
This undermines the credibility and effectiveness of religious organizations engaged in charitable work,
as it is perceived as conditional or insincere.
Dogmatism and Exclusivity:
Evangelicalism/proselytism promotes a rigid, dogmatic interpretation of religious beliefs that excludes other perspectives.
This exclusivity leads to intolerance of differing viewpoints and hinders constructive dialogue and cooperation with people of other faiths or worldviews.
Coercion and Manipulation:
Proselytism/evangelicalism involves coercion, manipulation, or exploitation of vulnerable individuals,
such as offering material incentives or exploiting power differentials to induce conversion.
This raises ethical concerns about respect for autonomy and informed consent.
Political Activism:
Evangelicalism/proselytism has been associated with political movements that prioritize specific social or moral issues, leading to controversy and polarization.
this politicization blurs the lines between religion and politics, compromising the integrity of both.
Interfaith Tensions:
Proselytism/evangelicalism contributes to interfaith tensions and conflicts, especially when it is aggressive or disrespectful to members of other religious communities.
It will undermine efforts to foster mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation among different faith traditions.
Fragmentation of Communities:
Proselytism/evangelicalism leads to the fragmentation or division of communities, particularly in contexts where multiple religious groups coexist.
This creates social tensions and weaken social cohesion, especially when proselytism is conducted in a confrontational or divisive manner.
Proselytization and Missionary Work:
We are concerned about aggressive or coercive methods used in proselytization/evangelicalism efforts,
especially when targeting vulnerable populations or in multicultural contexts.
This leads to cultural imperialism or disrespect for the autonomy of individuals and communities.
Cultural Insensitivity:
Proselytism/evangelicalism disregards or disrespects the cultural and religious traditions of the target community.
This leads to cultural imperialism or colonialism, especially when proselytism/evangelicalism is conducted in contexts where there is a history of exploitation or marginalization.
Misrepresentation or Simplification of Beliefs:
Proselytism/evangelicalism involves oversimplification or misrepresentation of religious beliefs and practices in order to make them more appealing to potential converts.
This leads to misunderstandings or misconceptions about the beliefs and traditions of the proselytizing religion.
For these reasons we conscientious objectors to the religious war, need an uncompetitive religion like Harris-y.
But don't push it.
Chapter 7
Humans and gods
Why do human religions have gods that are all too human?
A creator of everything that needs humans to wright/publish a holy book?
An all powerful god who needs humans to promote him?
An all powerful god with a vindictive human sized ego?
An immortal who is obsessed with human reproduction?
An all powerful god who needs humans more than we need him?
Any actual god wouldn't need human religion.
Harrisy serves humans, not gods.
Chapter 8
Parables
Corn In A Cow Patty.
Finding truth in the Abrahamic holy books,
is like finding corn in a cow patty.
Sure there are some good kernels in there,
but is it really worth digging through the shit to find them?
You can find uncontaminated kernels of truth anywhere.
