2024.05.17 13:27 dungeons_and_dimwits [Online][5e][18+][NA/Europe] Experienced writer and forever DM with dark fantasy warrior witch seeks good home!

(As far as scheduling goes, I'm US west coast mostly working nights, so that means I’m good midday relative to North American times and evenings relative to Europe. In addition, Mondays, Wednesdays, and evenings Friday are entirely free for me!)
This might be a really good fit for your campaign if many (not necessarily all) of the following are true:
So, this comes from a story I imagine many roleplayers are familiar with: put my heart into fleshing out a character, their themes and personality… and, campaign dies in its infancy. But while I hardly had a chance to play her, this concept is something I’d really want a chance to run! To be very clear, the specifics of her character are something I want to tie into your setting and story - the basic themes of the concept remain, but I want to immerse myself and be a real part of your world! As for what I have in mind, feel free to give this a read: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s07dPj3m42bqCFecXI0qW8JvjmMQKPhIb_wck_MEFSI/edit
I’m something of a forever DM with years of experience, and I always try to be the player for your group that I would love in mine. I am a queer individual, and I find it very important generally that everybody at the table is comfortable and on the same page. I adore unique homebrew lore and the passion put into unique settings; I’ll read everything you give me, both to immerse myself in your world and steal it for my own! My writing usually puts a special focus on the “human” elements of a story; the people, their lives, cultures, relationships, and motivations - and the conflict between them. My biggest payoff from the game is definitely the storytelling aspect. I absolutely love a well-roleplayed plot arc or a dramatic confrontation!
I think this has gone on plenty long enough, so thank you for your interest if you’ve made it this far! If you have any questions or ideas, or just feel like randomly interrogating me, let me know and we can chat here or move to Discord.

2024.05.17 13:23 NimbleThor 5 Quick tl;dr iOS Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 218)

Welcome back, fellow mobile gamers :) As per tradition, here are my weekly mobile game recommendations based on the most interesting games I played and that were covered on MiniReview this week! :) I hope you'll enjoy some of them.
Support these posts (and YouTube content + development of MiniReview) on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/NimbleThor <3
This episode includes a great racing game, a fun arcade platformer, a great deck-builder roguelike RPG, an arcade casual game, and a neat deck-building dungeon crawler.
New to these posts? Check out the first one from 216 weeks ago here.

Let's get to the games:

Art of Rally [Game Size: 2.3 GB] ($4.99)

Genre: Racing / Simulation - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by NimbleThor:
Art of Rally is a rally racing game with an amazing atmosphere, several fun game modes that range from casual to hardcore, and deep gameplay customization settings.
The main career mode has us play through several years of rally history on tracks all around the world, unlocking new cars and skins as we progress.
In addition to the campaign, however, there is a custom rally mode, a time-attack mode where we can try all of the game’s vehicles, a free-roam mode where we drive around a large open world to collect items, and daily and weekly online events with leaderboards.
What I like the best about Art of Rally is that it can be as casual or hardcore as you want. Free roaming is a fun laid-back experience while the time-attack modes are incredibly challenging. And even in the career mode, we can pick the difficulty of our AI opponents.
The touch controls are okay but lack different options. Thankfully, the game plays perfectly with a Bluetooth controller, and there are lots of customization options for everything from the HUD to the interface and gameplay, including changing the steering sensitivity, enabling anti-lock braking, and much more.
The game has a great atmosphere, and the low-poly art style and minimalistic UI fit nicely. Unfortunately, loading between menus and levels is slow, and I ran into a few minor bugs - so the game isn’t perfectly ported from PC.
Art of Rally is a $4.99 premium game with a single $1.99 optional DLC that adds additional map areas.
It’s a game more about precision than driving super-fast, so if that’s what you’re looking for, I think you’ll enjoy Art of Rally – especially if you have a controller to play it with.

Level Devil - NOT A Troll Game [Total Game Size: 87 MB] (Free)

Genre: Platform / Arcade - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by Ark:
Level Devil is an easy arcade platformer with no surprises or frustrations at all… or is it?
The game has us move left, right, and jump to navigate seemingly simple one-screen stages. But as we progress, the game starts trolling us in lots of unexpected ways.
Floors suddenly disappear beneath our feet, spikes spawn at what looks like safe spots, and the game sometimes even changes the rules of physics by lowering the gravity or reversing it altogether.
So you better be prepared for some rage-inducing deaths. But to me, the game’s main appeal is exactly these unexpected twists. The game quickly becomes all about anticipating the next troll attempt, and nothing beats the satisfaction I got from outsmarting a level in my first attempt.
There are 80 stages in total, with the game autosaving every 5 stages. And while some stages are challenging, they’re all short and concise. The controls are also simple and responsive. Unfortunately, there is no music at all, and the graphics are very minimal, with just a single yellow-reddish color scheme that gets old in no time.
Level Devil monetizes via occasional forced ads between levels and deaths, and a $0.99 iAP to remove these for good. Thankfully, I didn’t personally find the ads to be too intrusive, even with me dying a lot.
Despite being a troll game, it balances overall fun vs. overall difficulty very well. So I was able to complete it relatively easily without getting too frustrated. You could say I had a "devilish good time" beating the game.

Loop Hero [Game Size: 250 MB] (Free Trial)

Genre: RPG / Deck-Builder / Roguelike - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Some
tl;dr review by JBMessin:
Loop Hero is a mobile port of an incredibly unique tactical roguelike that mixes lots of gameplay elements, including deck-building, auto-battling, resource management, and city-building.
We begin the game in a place outside space and time on a dangerous path that forms a loop. Our character traverses the loop on his own, automatically fighting the enemies that spawn every day. These encounters provide us with loot that we equip to grow stronger and cards that are used to alter the loop.
Playing a card somewhere on the path changes what happens every time our hero walks through that part of the loop. For example, we may place a grove that spawns a rat every 2 days, which we then fight to grow stronger. This ability to customize the loop is one of the most unique aspects of the game, and I really enjoyed it.
After our first campfire is built, we begin to meet heroes who are just as lost as we are. Through short dialogues with them, we start to learn about the game’s light city-building mechanics. There are plenty of buildings to construct that offer all kinds of new and interesting gameplay mechanics - and even new classes to go on expeditions with.
What I immediately appreciated about Loop Hero was its top-notch soundtrack reminiscent of early 8-bit games like Castlevania, and the sprites that are stylized to match the gloomy setting but still vibrant in their design.
The biggest downside is that my large fingers sometimes made it hard to see where I was placing things. The game is definitely best enjoyed on larger phones.
Loop Hero is free to try, with a single $6.99 iAP unlocking the full game.
If you enjoy excellent roguelikes with unique gameplay mechanics, I think you’ll enjoy Loop Hero.

Tumble Rush [Game Size: 159 MB] (Free)

Genre: Arcade / Casual - Offline
Orientation: Landscape
Required Attention: Full
tl;dr review by NimbleThor:
Tumble Rush is a fun, fast-paced marble maze arcade game where we guide a ball through small top-down levels while avoiding obstacles, traps, and holes.
Apart from rolling around with our sphere character, the only other thing we can do is tap an interaction button that activates/deactivates doors, turn on fans that let us get over obstacles, and much more.
Despite the additional puzzle elements introduced along the way, the game is very easy in the beginning – maybe even to a fault. I quickly grew bored with the early levels. But thankfully, if you stick with the game, it eventually becomes much harder.
The coins we collect in each level are used to unlock new cosmetics for our character. But what’s really cool is that they also completely change the design and theme of every level. So unlocking cosmetics quickly became my primary objective.
While the standard mode is relatively easy and lacks a bit of variety, the game also features a much more challenging time attack mode, where we attempt to finish levels fast enough to earn three stars. And if we get bored with that, there’s an endless mode where we earn more and more gold the further we get.
The standard gyroscopic controls work alright, but I personally preferred one of the touch control options.
Tumble Rush monetizes by showing ads between levels. They appear relatively frequently but can thankfully be removed via a single $1.99 iAP.
It’s an arcade game that gets better the further you get. So if you’re looking for a fun game that can be played as casually or competitively as you want, I think you might like Tumble Rush.

SOULVARS (Game Size: 346 MB] ($4.99)

Genre: Deck-Building / Dungeon Crawler - Offline
Orientation: Portrait
Required Attention: Some
tl;dr review by AlexSem:
SOULVARS is a futuristic mix of a jRPG and a deck builder, where we fight demonic creatures using a deck of cards produced by the gear we equip.
Working for a secret government organization, our job is to maintain peace by engaging in bloody confrontations with hungry spirits that invade the human world via spontaneous portal-like breaches.
The combat system is quite elaborate. First of all, our deck is defined by the gear we equip, and each card lets us execute an action, such as using a shield, performing various elemental attacks, or dealing different types of physical damage.
Picking two different types of cards allows us to perform devastating combo actions. But we must also pay attention to our enemies’ resistances, constantly charge our “burst” meter to eventually turn into a powerful monster, and link together attacks of multiple characters. And this is just a small portion of the game’s many combat mechanics.
Mindlessly executing random moves works for a while, but we eventually face enemies so strong that this tactic isn’t enough. This is where the game's complex combat systems comes into play, and we need to learn all its intricacies and meticulously manage our equipment to win. This will be too challenging for some players, but a joy for others.
The exploration part of the game consists of navigating maze-like rooms, interacting with the environment, collecting loot, talking to people, and engaging in random battles - an old jRPG structure that is apparently still popular among certain audiences.
SOULVARS is a premium game that costs $4.99.
While the game’s repetitiveness and unengaging plot eventually make the gameplay a bit boring, there’s more than enough entertainment for fans of complex combat systems.

2024.05.17 13:20 The-Anonymous_one Looking for any helpful ideas to make the plot better.

Is this a good balanced plot?
So some friends and me want to write a book. we wrote some ideas for plots but mine is the one I'm asking about in this post. In all our ideas, it would be a young adult Fantasy/ Horror book with LGBTQIA+ themes. If you don't support please just read a different post. I don't want any of that kind of hate. The plot is 1007 words, is that okay? I accidentally posted it in the wrong place before.
Possible Trigger Warning for mentions of gore, death, cults, and mentions of torture.
Numbered characters don't have names yet.
The Eight Divines
A widely known cult called the Creed of the Eight Divines survives a deadly plague while the rest of the world is suffering. The Creed the Eight Divines tells its followers that the plague is brought on by sin. Outsiders are killed on spot because they will bring their sins with them. The real reason is that they know the truth about the plague.
It starts with an execution. A body with a sac over its head is being hung. It writhes for a bit before becoming still, swaying in the cold winter air. A child's stuffed toy falls from its cold greying hand. The Leaders remind the Children of the Creed that outsiders are sinners who carry the plague.
There is a yearly sacrifice and two young Children of the Creed, Niko and Talis, get chosen. Niko thinks it's bullshit because they found out the truth about the plague. The truth being that The Creed of the Eight Divines made the plague, that the plague is not just a disease but a being that they believe is their Lord. That takes over people’s bodies. Inhabiting hundreds of people at once until they die in a span of a day to a week depending on how hungry it is, then moving on to find new hosts.
The cult leaders believe that the plague was their duty to spread, to wipe out the non-believers. A few immune people outside of the cult survive and grow as different communities. Niko finds all this out and thinks it's wrong. Niko also finds out that the other people who are sacrificed all had found out about the truth. They don’t get a chance to tell Talis.
Talis is honoured to serve their Lord by their death, as they are brainwashed and believe everything the cult leader says. Unknown to even themself, Talis is an experiment of the church. Created to turn into a monster. The two have been best friends for a long time. But they are completely loyal to the cult.
Niko believes that they can change Talis’s mind by telling them about an escape plan and try to tell them what they found out. Talis doesn’t believe Niko, and betrays them by telling the Children of the Creed about the plan. Before they can be captured, Niko makes a desperate escape attempt and gets out but Talis is sent to hunt them down with a few other loyal “Children of the Creed”. After escaping, Niko meets a community of new people and decides to live with them, while Talis is struggling because something strange and horrifying is happening to them.
Something snaps inside Talis and they turn on the Children of the Creed with them. Brutally murdering them. They get back in control of themself and realise what they did. They run off and soon getting lost. Niko finds Talis almost passed out while on a patrol with some other people but it's not what is expected. There is no big fight. Niko convinces Talis that they aren’t mad at them and it's not their fault, but Talis falls unconscious at their feet. Niko is scared for Talis because even though they betrayed them, they were only being loyal to the only thing they knew, and Niko genuinely has faith that Talis can change.
They live for a few months in peace, away from the cult, and Talis meets someone new named Finn. Talis struggles with their feelings towards Finn and discovering who they are and want to be. They were raised believing homosexuality and being transgender is a horrible sin. Finn helps Talis and becomes good friends with them.
Both Niko and Talis plan with a small group of people how to end the cult and free all the people. Niko doesn’t want Talis to come on the plan because they are getting sicker. Talis wants to go and they both get into an argument, with people from the group choosing sides. Talis loses control and attacks Niko, but gets knocked out while the fight is being stopped.
In this moment of arguments and anger, the Children of the Creed that had discovered the location of the camp, raids the community and a fight ensues, in which Talis is captured along with some of the other people living outside who didn’t escape. Among the people who escaped are Niko, Greyson, #5, #6, #7, #8, and #9. The captured people are all brought back to the cult. The secret about Talis is uncovered, leaving them shocked and horrified. Talis is tortured and made to watch as the cult executes the people they had been living with and getting to know for so long, including Finn.
Niko’s plan changes from ‘end the cult’ to ‘rescue Talis and anyone else still alive’. Over a few days as Niko prepares to raid the cult, Talis is slowly changing into the monster they were created to be. When the raid is finally made, all hell breaks loose when Talis, now turned monster, breaks out of their cell and starts rage killing the cult followers and leaders in revenge for Finn and all the torturing and trauma they had dealt with over many years.
While that is happening, the plague breaks into the cult, killing everyone it can infect as it is hungry for new hosts. #8 dies in the fighting. The people in the group from the community that are immune rescue all the people they can, while Niko goes to find Talis. Niko first sees Talis when they are about to kill the remaining cult leaders. They manage to calm Talis down when they are about to kill the leader who tells them about a cure for both the plague and Talis's monster, in a desperate plan to save himself. They kill him and leave with all those alive, uninfected, and willing, along with Greyson, Shiga, #5, #6, and #9.
In the epilog, a funeral is held for Finn, #8, and all those who lost or gave their lives.
If we write and finish it, we could write a book based on finding a cure for Talis and the plague.
Thoughts??

2024.05.17 13:17 Silestyna IRL Player's true colours came out

I used to play DnD in a shop, which was great for meeting new people, but also leads to a bunch of RPG horror stories.
In one campaign, there was a new couple to the store, recently moved in the area. A bit of an age gap between them. They ended up in separate games, with the husband joining our table as our GM made a space so they can join in.
It was a set up where the world is being Corrupted, and our efforts were slowing down the efforts or trying to create setbacks before the final battle against evil. So the DM repeatedly had dangerous situations, and even NPCs we grown attached too, getting killed by the darkness.
So this player joins, and picked a Hunter. He joined when the campaign was first scouting the possible location of the enemies base in the enemies territory. Imagine a party essentially approaching the gates of Mordor from LotR, escorting our wise and powerful mentor who we might as well call Gandalf. The DM was setting up a moment we learn of how terrifying the enemy is, and a “You shalt not pass” moment where our Galdalf sacrifices himself to save us. So when exploring, the Hunter pretty much wants to not want to be involved with fighting the darkness at all (bad fit for party/theme) specifying he stays away at maximum range at all times, and during a troll attack, he was firing at disadvantage whilst my rogue was getting mullered. He was quickly earning some bad rep as a player with the party with his antics, which leads to the horror moment and final straw.
We ended up at a cabin in the woods with a family there. There was something going on and there is a secret, and we needed to learn it from this family. As a party, we were trying to earn some good will with them, and gain their trust. There was a lot of cageyness but it was proceeding like a difficult social encounter could be. Hunter again, was not wanting to the party spirit, stuck to the edges.
There was a DM statement about the little girl in the family knowing something of it whilst she was skirt peeking from behind her mother. The Hunter decided this might be a good way to get the information. He started using some honeycakes to lure out this little girl out in the woods Man in White Van with Free Candy here on the side style. He was giving such details of how he is going to lure her out, going quite remote with this little girl, etc. It was very surreal and spoken as if given this some real thought, far beyond what you would expect for such a play. The DM had the little girl share her information, but he seemed to continue with interacting with her.Player (Cleric) next to me spoke up and said “Calm down now, Jimmy Saville”. Which kind of broke the atmosphere, we laughed and made jokes to defuse it and allowed to snap back from what they were watching. Hunter didnt look too amused.
The DM had the mother realise her daughter was missing, get hysterical and we as party helped her out. We get to girl and Hunter, and Mother goes “What are you doing with my child?”. We expected some kind of apology or excuse from Hunter, we take the rep hit, and he shares his information gathered with us. Except, he doesn't do any of that. Hunter just goes deathly quiet, and just walks away from the party, not even replying to mother or any of us asking questions. 'Right to Remain Silent' style. His actions were coming off weird in character and with his IRL body language. We obviously asked him and prompted him to do some actions, whilst Cleric expressed his own discomfort with jokes referencing Hunter’s character acting like a nonce.
Shortly Hunter’s girlfriend came to the table, saying she had a headache and he left with her. Given he was on his phone, we guessed he got uncomfortable with the situation and used her to bail out. We did feel some guilt about chasing the player away, but we were collectively ‘wtf’ about the experience.
Hunter never turned up at the shop again, which wasnt a big loss for us, as he was a very poor team player and we continued. His wife did return to her table. She left after a month or so.
It was a month after this when the DM was chatting with the other DM, about both the players. And in our Facebook group, he sent a link suggesting we check out it.
Click the link and it was Hunter in a newspaper online from a city from other side of the country. Turned out, he was on sex offender for diddling kids in his role of a church youth pastor. He clearly located across the country to escape his past. As you can imagine with age difference, his wife was one of the those he met within his role and married when she grew older.
Obviously the Cleric was like “I called it! I knew! It just wasnt right with what he was doing”, and yeah, it makes sense in hindsight. We were all very uncomfortable with his play.
And it is the very sickening realisation afterwards that he knew what to do about luring the little girl npc in the woods and his actions around that, because he most likely had very real practical experience of doing that stuff.
Sick.

2024.05.17 13:14 Estrus_Flask What should I do at level 2?

What should I do at level 2?
This is for Outlaws of Alkenstar. (We just saved the little goblin and we're about to go fight the gnolls, so try to be spoiler free). We have Free Archetype.
I'm going to take Esoteric Talisman for my Class feat and Bon Mot for my Skill Feat (unless anyone suggests something better), but I'm unsure of which Archetype best fits. My prevailing ideas:
  • Bard, which I like thematically, but mechanically I'm iffy on. The Dedication doesn't get me much, but then I take Hymn of Healing at 4 and Martial Performance at 6, and Anthemic Performance at 8. It's a pretty reasonable path, though I don't really care for any Cantrips. It fits best with my backstory.
  • Psychic, grants me the most immediately that I like, to the point that I'm going to break those options down as well, but it also maybe feels the most at odds with what I'm trying to do. Whichever Conscious Mind I choose, I'll probably take Psi Burst at level 4, since a Bon Mot (which I'm thinking of getting at level 2) will reduce the save when Mindshifted. But there are a lot of robots and shit in Alkenstar, we've already fought plenty, so I'm not sure how useful that will be. But of course, there's also cops, and they have soft squishy brains. I'm also not sure what I'd take at level 6. Cantrip Expansion and Psi Development are my only good options, but I don't care for any Cantrips other than the super special ones. That are one action.
    • The Unbound Step: My top choice, because I love the idea of moving 60 feet in a single action, 70 when I get Fleet at level 3. Warp Step, but then Distortion Lens doesn't do too much for me and I don't feel the need for Phase Bolt since I'll likely be getting Wand Implement unless my character concept changes by level 5 (the wand will be her sigil carved prosthetic, which is also her esoterica). How does her magic sword talking to her let her run superfast? Who knows.
    • The Tangible Dream: I like the idea of being able to Shield myself or my allies with a big strong barrier of magic. I'm not as hot on Figment or Imaginary Weapon. I guess I could Figment to go Hidden, then get a really good Trip on something, flank with the figment, and get Implement's Interruption when they stand up).
    • The Infinite Eye: I'm iffy on whether it's a good idea. Guidance seems like the best option, but I really only see myself using the Amped version to save someone else's ass (since I can't use it to save my own) and those "if your +1 could have saved them" powers always seem too niche. Glimpse Weakness is another "waste an action to set up another action" things, and again, I'm not my own ally. Detect Magic is... well, it's Detect Magic. It's always pretty good. This one is probably the easiest to flavor as Sword instructing her, the way that he does for the Thaumaturge stuff.
    • The Silent Whisper: Once again of the options that interests me the most, it's the one action one. Message. But mostly because I think it would be funny if Sword is also there talking to people in Izalith's mind. The Amped version would definitely be good for getting allies out of danger by letting them Stride or Step, but other than that I'm not sure how useful it would be. I do kind of see potential in Forbidden Thought, in that I can say "Stand" and then knock them on their ass. So when they do stand they take 4d6 mental damage, they're stunned 1, and then I get to Implement's Interruption them. But it once again runs into the "but everything is robots" problem. I'm also unsure how well an archetype's casting will be.
    • The Distant Grasp and Oscillating Wave don't interest me at all and I don't see how I could fit them into my character's personality and backstory or themes.
  • Marshal, which I'm really only interested in Inspiring Stance from, though it would give me Expert Diplomacy.
  • Or, I take Talisman Dabbler and just make tons of fucking Talisman. I'd probably take Esoteric Warden as my Class Feat if I went with that route. Kind of underwhelming but also hey, I love making consumables.
My party are: A Witch ("Mosquito"/Kitten), an Investigator (Forensic Medicine), a Rogue (Thief), and a Gunslinger (Triggerbrand). So I am the primary damage dealer and person getting hit, with the Triggerbrand helping. Also this isn't mechanically relevant information but I just want to point out that the Witch is an Ant Gnoll (well, a catgirl with Ant Gnoll statistics), the Investigator is a Halfling, and the Rogue is a Ysoki. So everyone but me and the Gunslinger are short. Also the catgirl has a cat familiar and the Ysoki has a rat familiar. I joked that I should have a snake familiar.

2024.05.17 13:12 ChancellorBasil21 I made an AI historian to help me keep track of my world!

Howdy Builders!
I wanted to share this project I've been working on for the past few days that I am super excited about! I've been developing a custom GPT to assist with my D&D game world of Novistar.
For some background, I have been building Novistar for close to 10 years now, so it has a massive collection of notes. The world itself is very large, consisting of 32 continents and even more nations/kingdoms. Unfortunately, I also have a short-term memory, so I often lose track of items that I have written long ago and have trouble making connections between different parts of my world.
I've been exploring AI development over the past year, specifically using the tools offered by OpenAI. I had the idea to create a custom GPT that acts as a historian named Ivo Falcona from my world. Ivo would act primarily as a historian. Therefore, I would be able to ask him questions about Novistar and he can respond with information that is founded in the world's lore. He would also provide inspiration based on Novistar's lore compared to a general AI that would base suggestions off of the general web and be off-theme.
Steps to create Ivo
  1. First, I created a custom GPT using OpenAI and gave it instructions for how to act based on the character of Ivo. I also gave it some instructions for how I wanted it to go about formatting responses and it should go about improvising information.
  2. The main task was to train the AI using my extensive world-building notes stored in OneNote, which currently spans about 500 pages.
  3. This step isn't necessary, but I made a dedicated copy of my notebook so I could remove pages I do not want players to find out about by mistake. I also tried to remove any unfinished or redundant content.
  4. I then exported the cleaned notebook as a PDF to integrate into the custom GPT’s knowledge base.
Results
The results have been phenomenal! Ivo has transformed how I manage and engage with my world's lore. It keeps the narrative consistent, provides rapid answers rooted in the world's history, and inspires new content. While it struggles a bit with precise dates, the overall functionality has been very impressive.
Ivo also unexpectedly addresses a challenge I hadn't anticipated: new players feeling overwhelmed by new information. Allowing my new players to ask questions at their own pace prevents information overload for them and a barrage of questions for me throughout the day. This approach has already been effective with two people.
In the future I would like to add some more features for inspiring creations or summarizing content. I hope to add a character generator that can create a name, appearance description, and maybe a short backstory, all with a basis on the character's location and organizational ties. This generator would be more geared toward me as a DM, though. I would also like to add a database for the prices of different goods and items around Novistar so that it Ivo can tell me how much something will cost based on where it is being purchased. Finally, I would like to add a similar dataset so Ivo can tell me how long it will take to travel between two locations and maybe even give alternate routes based on Novistar's maps, but that one may be a bit of a long shot for now.
Try It?
I've made a copy of the GPT for anyone who wants to give it a try. You can explore the world of Novistar and see how the AI historian works. Note that this is a copy to avoid any issues with outside input influencing the main AI.
Feel free to ask me any questions about the process or share your own experiences with using AI for world-building!
Happy world-building!

2024.05.17 12:59 ctgryn Is it really possible to not fear death entirely?

Obviously, avoiding fear of death is perhaps one of the most central themes of Stoicism. Seneca, Epictetus, and Marcus Aurelius all propose, in varying degrees, that it is possible.
I always wonder if that’s true. My fear of death has been minimized to near zero since becoming a Stoic, but there are still some hangups that cause me anxiety. Sometimes I wonder if our innate evolutionary desire for survival is too strong for Stoicism. Or maybe it’s just a case of me not being thorough enough in my Stoic practices. What do you guys think? Have you managed to wholly avoid the fear of death?
PS: feel free to tell me to fuck off if this is one of those annoyingly FAQ hahah

2024.05.17 12:35 artfullyprompt im looking for some collabs, or to find others into ai, rpgs, gaming, markets, nfts

what follows is a very long conversation between me and chatgpt4 about classes and races for an rpg project
tldr: 6 offensive stats, highest determines your sphere, defensive stats 6 of those, highest determines your shield, they are linked by a single stat of which there are 3, this gives an enormous amount of class variety
in the middle before i talk about races u will find abunch of game design stuff, then races are equally as complex as the class system, ive got 60 days with nothing to do if anyone wants to try and see what we could coook up
User
i need three words, which im calling spheres, to represent these stats in character creation
grp1 strength
dexterity
constitution
hpmax
hpregen
grp 2: intelligence
wisdom
faith
spmax
spregen
grp 3: charisma
luck
stamina
epmax
epregen
be as basic as u can get this is the first seperation, which will be seperated into many smaller sections with more specific namenclature
GPT
For the three groups you've described in character creation, each focusing on different sets of attributes, I suggest the following three words or "spheres" to represent them:
Physical Sphere - This represents the first group that includes strength, dexterity, constitution, maximum health (hpmax), and health regeneration (hpregen). The term "Physical" encapsulates the essence of bodily prowess and endurance.
Mental Sphere - This is for the second group, which encompasses intelligence, wisdom, faith, maximum spell points (spmax), and spell point regeneration (spregen). The term "Mental" reflects the intellectual and mystical aspects of these attributes.
Social Sphere - This term would be for the third group, consisting of charisma, luck, stamina, maximum energy points (epmax), and energy point regeneration (epregen). "Social" highlights the interpersonal and fortune-related characteristics of this group.
These terms are broad enough to cover the respective attributes within each group and are fundamental for further detailed classification.
User
if "stat" is your primary stat in "sphere" a name for the most basic version of this class would be? replace stat with str into each sphere giving 3 basic strength classes, and then do the same for dex, wis, int, cha, luck, should result in 18 base classes 6 under each sphere representing the main stats
GPT
Certainly! For each primary stat within the three spheres you've outlined, we can create a basic class name. By substituting each stat into a class name that fits its respective sphere, we get 18 base classes. Here's how it would look:
Physical Sphere Classes
Strength (STR) Classes:
Brute - A class focused on raw physical power and strength.
Powerhouse - Emphasizing immense strength and physical dominance.
Warrior - A more balanced strength-based class with combat proficiency.
Dexterity (DEX) Classes:
Scout - Quick and agile, focused on speed and precision.
Acrobat - Specializing in agility and nimble movements.
Ranger - A class skilled in ranged combat and swift movements.
Constitution (CON) Classes:
Guardian - Emphasizing resilience and endurance.
Defender - Focused on protection and sustained physical presence.
Survivor - A class adept at enduring harsh conditions and recovering.
Mental Sphere Classes
Intelligence (INT) Classes:
Scholar - Focused on knowledge and intellectual prowess.
Sage - Emphasizing wisdom and learning.
Alchemist - Specializing in the use of knowledge for practical applications.
Wisdom (WIS) Classes:
Seer - Oriented towards insight and understanding.
Mystic - Combining intuition with spiritual depth.
Oracle - A class with foresight and profound wisdom.
Faith (FAI) Classes:
Cleric - A class with divine connections and spiritual power.
Paladin - Fusing faith with martial prowess.
Monk - Focused on inner spiritual growth and harmony.
Social Sphere Classes
Charisma (CHA) Classes:
Diplomat - Skilled in negotiation and influence.
Leader - A class focusing on inspiration and command.
Entertainer - Specializing in charm and public appeal.
Luck (LUC) Classes:
Gambler - Relying on chance and probability.
Adventurer - Embracing risk and opportunity.
Fortune Seeker - A class focused on exploiting lucky circumstances.
Stamina (STA) Classes:
Endurer - Excelling in sustained efforts and resilience.
Marathoner - Focused on long-term stamina and persistence.
Trailblazer - A class adept at forging paths and enduring challenges.
Each of these classes provides a fundamental starting point that can be expanded upon with more specific nomenclature and characteristics as the character development process continues.
User
nope. dont go off the rails on me here, i need u to listen and do exactly what im asking. i will do an example with strength for you.
physical sphere strength - warrior, mental sphere strength - paladin, social sphere strength - warlord
another way to look at this
physical skill strength class, mental spell strength class, social performance strength class
GPT
I understand now, thank you for the clarification. Using your approach, where each primary stat is aligned with a class in each sphere, here are the basic class names for each stat in the three spheres:
Physical Sphere
Strength: Warrior
Dexterity: Scout
Constitution: Guardian
Mental Sphere
Strength: Paladin
Intelligence: Mage
Wisdom: Sage
Social Sphere
Strength: Warlord
Charisma: Diplomat
Luck: Gambler
Extended List for All Stats in Each Sphere
Physical Sphere
Strength: Warrior
Dexterity: Scout

Wisdom: Sage
Charisma: Enchanter

This should cover all 18 base classes across the three spheres for each primary stat.
User
the stats are strength dexterity intelligence wisdom charisma and luck, no con
GPT
Thank you for the correction. Here are the base class names for each stat in the three spheres, considering the stats you've listed:

GPT
Great! If you have any more questions or need further assistance with your character creation system or anything else, feel free to ask. Happy to help!
User
ok now from Physical Sphere
Strength: Warrior
Dexterity: Scout
Intelligence: Tactician
Wisdom: Strategist
Charisma: Commander
Luck: Rogue
physical skill warrior =
strength dexterity warrior
strength intelligence warrior
strength wisdom warrior
strength charisma warrior
strength luck warrior
remember to keep it as basic as can be, cuz we still got more spplits after this one. iterate that list giving each physical sphere warrior with strength as its major stat and then 1 of the other 5 primary stats as the minor to create a class name, after strength do physical sphere dexterity etc
GPT
Understood. For each primary stat within the Physical Sphere, I'll create class names that pair the primary stat with each of the other stats as a secondary attribute. Let's start with the Physical Sphere Warrior class, which has Strength as its major stat, and then create variations with each of the other primary stats as the minor stat:
Physical Sphere - Warrior Classes
Strength-Dexterity Warrior: Berserker
Strength-Intelligence Warrior: Battlemage
Strength-Wisdom Warrior: War Sage
Strength-Charisma Warrior: Warlord
Strength-Luck Warrior: Gladiator
Now, following the same pattern for the other primary stats in the Physical Sphere:
Physical Sphere - Scout Classes
Dexterity-Strength Scout: Ranger
Dexterity-Intelligence Scout: Pathfinder
Dexterity-Wisdom Scout: Scout Sage
Dexterity-Charisma Scout: Spy Master
Dexterity-Luck Scout: Acrobat
Physical Sphere - Tactician Classes
Intelligence-Strength Tactician: War Planner
Intelligence-Dexterity Tactician: Strategist
Intelligence-Wisdom Tactician: Mastermind
Intelligence-Charisma Tactician: Field Commander
Intelligence-Luck Tactician: Trickster
Physical Sphere - Strategist Classes
Wisdom-Strength Strategist: Battle Monk
Wisdom-Dexterity Strategist: Skirmisher
Wisdom-Intelligence Strategist: Analyst

Physical Sphere - Rogue Classes
Luck-Strength Rogue: Brute
Luck-Dexterity Rogue: Nimble Thief

This list provides a basic naming structure for each class under the Physical Sphere, with a major and a minor stat. Let me know if you need further iterations or additional information!
User
continue the process this time with the mental classes
GPT
Certainly! Following the same approach, I'll create class names for each primary stat in the Mental Sphere, pairing each one with the other primary stats as a minor attribute.
Mental Sphere - Paladin Classes
Strength-Dexterity Paladin: Crusader
Strength-Intelligence Paladin: Scholar Knight
Strength-Wisdom Paladin: Templar
Strength-Charisma Paladin: Noble Paladin
Strength-Luck Paladin: Divine Champion

User

This completes the list for the Social Sphere classes. Each class is defined by a primary and a secondary stat, capturing a unique blend of characteristics. If you need any more assistance or adjustments, feel free to ask!
User
so i f you thinnk of the spheres as methods de combat, the next are the defensive side, con hpmaxhpregen, faith spmax spregen, and endurance epmax and epregen, i was thinking of calling them shields, so will u give each of the three shields a name, and the zones still include the skills used primary above so con shield contains str and dex faith shield contains int and wis, just working from the bottom up instead of top down, and i forgot to type them in, so three shield names to start off
GPT
Understanding your concept of "shields" as the defensive aspect of combat in your character creation system, each shield will correspond to a different sphere and set of primary skills. Here are the names for the three shields, considering their associated stats and roles:
Physical Shield - This shield corresponds to the Physical Sphere and is focused on Constitution (Con), representing physical resilience and endurance. It's primarily linked with Strength (Str) and Dexterity (Dex) as the skills used. This shield emphasizes physical toughness and the ability to withstand and recover from physical harm.
Mental Shield - Associated with the Mental Sphere, this shield centers around Faith, signifying spiritual and mental fortitude. It's connected with Intelligence (Int) and Wisdom (Wis) as the primary skills. This shield represents the character's ability to channel and regenerate their spiritual or magical energy, emphasizing resilience in mystical or mental confrontations.
Social Shield - Linked to the Social Sphere, this shield is based on Endurance, reflecting the character's ability to endure social or emotional challenges. It ties in with Charisma and Luck as the primary skills. This shield signifies the character's capacity to maintain energy and composure in social interactions and situations requiring fortitude and luck.
Each of these shields offers a unique defensive aspect, aligning with the primary skills from their respective spheres, and providing a foundational structure for further character development and specialization.

the 3 shields represent protection and healing buffing and debuffing as well as how the spheres power their offensiveness, we start with the regeneration rates because if you are going to be a protector healer buffer or debuffer, likely no one will be refilling your abilities, so u need to have a good base regen for how u power your stuff, please provide names for each of the above shields and regens
GPT
I see, you're focusing on the regenerative aspects of each shield, which are crucial for sustainment in various roles like protection, healing, buffing, and debuffing. Let's name each shield and their corresponding regeneration rates:
Physical Shield
Shield Name: Bastion Shield
Health Point Regeneration (HPR): Vitality Surge
Energy Point Regeneration (EPR): Stamina Renewal
Spell Point Regeneration (SPR): Arcane Resilience
Mental Shield
Shield Name: Aegis Shield
Health Point Regeneration (HPR): Life Mending
Energy Point Regeneration (EPR): Ethereal Recovery
Spell Point Regeneration (SPR): Mystic Restoration
Social Shield
Shield Name: Harmony Shield
Health Point Regeneration (HPR): Serenity Heal
Energy Point Regeneration (EPR): Charisma Recharge
Spell Point Regeneration (SPR): Fortune Revival
Each shield and its regenerative aspects are named to reflect their unique characteristics and roles within the respective spheres. The names suggest the nature of the regeneration – whether it's physical, mental, or social – and imply a certain style of gameplay associated with each shield.
User
if you want to absorb damage its important to have a big pool to go through, for each of the names for the sustaining shields, create a class for hpmax epmax and spmax
GPT
Certainly, focusing on the aspect of maximizing health, energy, and spell points for each shield type, here are the classes that emphasize these aspects:
Bastion Shield Classes (Physical Shield)
Health Point Maximum (HPMax) Class: Ironclad - A class that emphasizes physical durability and a large health pool.
Energy Point Maximum (EPMax) Class: Endurer - Focused on having a vast reservoir of energy to withstand prolonged engagements.
Spell Point Maximum (SPMax) Class: Mana Fortifier - Specializing in increasing the maximum capacity of spell points for enhanced magical endurance.
Aegis Shield Classes (Mental Shield)
**Health Point Maximum (HPMax)
User
under bastion there shoud be 9 not 3, so using the regeneration names created under bastion each of those get a name coordinated with one of the maxes etc
GPT
Understood, I will create nine classes for each of the regenerative aspects under the Bastion Shield, coordinating each with one of the maximum stats (HPMax, EPMax, SPMax). Here are the detailed classes:
Bastion Shield Classes (Physical Shield)
Vitality Surge - HPMax: Steel Guardian - A class with enhanced physical resilience and a large health pool.
Vitality Surge - EPMax: Stamina Titan - Focused on a high energy capacity, coupled with rapid energy regeneration.
Vitality Surge - SPMax: Arcane Protector - Balances a significant spell point pool with efficient regeneration.

Each of these classes under the Bastion Shield is designed to synergize the regeneration type with the corresponding maximum stat, creating a unique role and gameplay style within the Physical Shield category. Let me know if you need similar expansions for the Aegis and Harmony Shields!
Aegis Shield Classes (Mental Shield)

User
con, sta, and faith are links between the shield and the sphere this may be too big of a list to do my original intention but can we match every sphere with every shield through each of the links? i thnk 27 shields and 27 spheres through 3 links, whats the number come out to
GPT
Matching every sphere with every shield through each of the three links (Constitution, Stamina, and Faith) results in a total of 2,187 combinations. This indeed creates a very extensive list of potential classes or roles within your character creation system. If you wish to proceed with this or need assistance with a different approach, let me know!
User
ok lets build archetypes using the links connecting the 3 spheres and 3 shields through the 3 links
GPT
Building archetypes by connecting the three spheres (Physical, Mental, Social) and three shields (Physical Shield, Mental Shield, Social Shield) through the three links (Constitution, Stamina, Faith) can create a diverse array of character types. Let's start by establishing a basic framework:
Archetype Structure
Link - Constitution (Con): Connects the sphere's core attribute with the Physical Shield's focus on health and resilience.
Link - Stamina (Sta): Bridges the sphere's primary attribute with the Social Shield's emphasis on energy and endurance.
Link - Faith (Fai): Links the sphere's fundamental trait with the Mental Shield's concentration on spell power and spiritual strength.
Now, let's create archetypes for each combination:
Physical Sphere Archetypes
Constitution Link:
Physical Sphere + Physical Shield: Fortress Warrior - Specializes in physical endurance and robust health.
Physical Sphere + Mental Shield: Mystic Knight - A warrior who combines physical prowess with spiritual resilience.
Physical Sphere + Social Shield: Commanding Guardian - A protector who uses physical strength in social and leadership roles.
Stamina Link:
Physical Sphere + Physical Shield: Stamina Sentinel - Focuses on prolonged physical engagements and energy sustainability.
Physical Sphere + Mental Shield: Ether Warrior - A fighter adept at using physical skills along with mystical energy.
Physical Sphere + Social Shield: Charismatic Fighter - Utilizes physical skills in social settings, emphasizing endurance.
Faith Link:
Physical Sphere + Physical Shield: Divine Protector - Combines physical strength with a focus on spiritual health.
Physical Sphere + Mental Shield: Paladin - A holy warrior blending physical might with faith and spellcasting.
Physical Sphere + Social Shield: Faithful Commander - Leads with physical prowess and spiritual influence.
Mental Sphere Archetypes
Constitution Link:
Mental Sphere + Physical Shield: Arcane Tank - Uses intelligence or wisdom to enhance physical resilience.
Mental Sphere + Mental Shield: Sage Guardian - A wise protector focused on mental and physical health.
Mental Sphere + Social Shield: Diplomatic Mage - Combines mental acumen with social adeptness and health.
Stamina Link:
Mental Sphere + Physical Shield: Mystic Endurer - Focuses on sustaining mental abilities through physical stamina.
Mental Sphere + Mental Shield: Ethereal Sage - A scholar who uses mental prowess to manage energy effectively.
Mental Sphere + Social Shield: Enigmatic Leader - Uses intelligence and wisdom in social contexts with a focus on endurance.
Faith Link:
Mental Sphere + Physical Shield: Spiritual Warrior - Merges mental skills with faith-driven physical strength.
Mental Sphere + Mental Shield: High Priest - A spiritual leader focusing on mental strength and spiritual health.
Mental Sphere + Social Shield: Charismatic Seer - Combines mental wisdom with faith and social influence.
Social Sphere Archetypes
Constitution Link:
Social Sphere + Physical Shield: Resilient Diplomat - Focuses on social skills and robust health.
Social Sphere + Mental Shield: Counselor of Resolve - Uses social charm in tandem with mental resilience.
Social Sphere + Social Shield: Influential Guardian - A social leader who excels in maintaining health and presence.
Stamina Link:

Social Sphere + Mental Shield: Faithful Ambassador - Combines social acumen with a deep spiritual connection.
Social Sphere + Social Shield: Spiritual Leader - Leads with charisma, backed by faith and social strength.
Each archetype represents a unique blend of sphere attributes and shield focuses, mediated by the links of Constitution, Stamina, and Faith. This framework allows for diverse character roles and play styles within your game. If you need further elaboration or additional concepts, feel free to ask!
User
pick a random shield class and sphere class and link class
mental sphere enchanter prophet, aegis shield soul defender, mental link constitution=> mental to mental through constitution = sage guardian
result enchanter prophet, soul defnder, sage guardian
GPT
Randomly selected classes from each category are:
Sphere Class: Bard
Shield Class: Endurance Sentinel
Link Class: Counselor of Resolve
Combining these, we get an archetype that merges the artistic and charismatic qualities of a Bard, the stamina-focused resilience of an Endurance Sentinel, and the social adaptability and conflict resolution skills of a Counselor of Resolve. This unique blend creates a character adept in social situations, with a strong emphasis on endurance and the ability to navigate and resolve conflicts effectively.
User
u would still need to pick one of these exterity-Strength Bard: Warrior Poet
Dexterity-Intelligence Bard: Cunning Lyricist
Dexterity-Wisdom Bard: Sage Performer
Dexterity-Charisma Bard: Master Entertainer
Dexterity-Luck Bard: Lucky Minstrel
and endurance sentinel is physical so your link would need to be social to physical so charismatic protector or energetic envoy or resilient diplomat
GPT
Thank you for the guidance. Let's refine the archetype using the specific classes you've provided. Since the randomly chosen Sphere class is a Bard (Dexterity), we'll select a subclass of Bard that best fits the theme:
Bard Subclass: Dexterity-Charisma Bard: Master Entertainer
For the Shield class, we have the Endurance Sentinel (Physical), and we need to link it from the Social to the Physical. Let's choose an appropriate link class:
Link Class (Social to Physical): Charismatic Protector
Combining these selections, the resultant archetype could be described as a Master Entertainer who is also an Endurance Sentinel, tied together through the qualities of a Charismatic Protector. This character would excel in captivating audiences and handling social situations with charisma while possessing remarkable physical endurance and protective abilities.

2024.05.17 11:47 Errora403 Patch Update (05.17) - Mecha Fusion Updates

Dear Players,
Thank you all for your support and love for PUBG MOBILE. We have received feedback from our player communities and have made the following adjustments to Version 3.2 update:
The game will be updated without stopping service on May 17. Players logged into the game will not be affected.
Mecha Fusion Updates:
  1. Significantly reduced mecha stomp damage, and made balance adjustments to mecha Health.
  2. Increased the distance from which the Strider and Armamech's movements and jumps can be heard.
  3. Reduced the maximum effective range of the Levitron and Armamech's "Magnetize" ability to 35 meters.
  4. Increased the Strider and Armamech's missile reload time from 5 seconds to 6 seconds.
  5. Fixed a bug where mechas sometimes could not be heard from behind and in narrow spaces.
  6. Slightly reduced the quantity of Levitrons and Striders that spawn on the Mecha Fusion - Livik map.
  7. Improved the "Magnetize" ability to mitigate the disruptive behavior of some players: After breaking free from a teammate's "Magnetize", they cannot use it on you again for 2 minutes. It also can't be used on you while using consumables, rescuing teammates, being rescued, or self-rescuing.
Other Updates:
  1. Adjusted the point calculation for certain special quality items in the Collection System. Added dynamic effects to the "Grandmaster Collector" Title obtained at Collection Lv. 94.
  2. Fixed a bug where some upgraded items in the Collection System's Themed tab incorrectly displayed their pre-upgraded point value instead.
  3. Other general improvements.
PUBG MOBILE is always committed to providing players with high-quality game content and experiences. Your feedback will become the driving force for our continuous progress. Once again, thank you all for your understanding and support!

2024.05.17 11:06 fairymaiden is this good? found in appstore an unofficial app that offers subscription?

is this good? found in appstore an unofficial app that offers subscription?
hi, this is my first post here.. i usually lurk so i’m sorry if it’s not worded the best.
anyway, i was reading the comments under the post where people were talking about the lore.fm app going around and i was scrolling in the appstore when i found an app called “ao3++” and so i looked at it and i’m just confused because i wasn’t sure if it was a good or bad thing? and this app has a subscription for some stuff and they say in the description that “Please note that AO3++ is an unofficial client for AO3 and solely acts as a browser for the platform. We respect the rights of fanfiction writers and do not host or profit from any content. The app is ad-supported, with the option for users to subscribe for additional features and to support further development.”
i was especially confused since i usually just use a regular browser app on my phone so is this like that i guess but just offering like themes and tts with offline downloading? but it’s behind a paywall or?
i don’t really understand how that works and maybe sound ridiculous? so they are not making profit off the writers ?? but i just wanted to bring it up, or if it’s a reason to be concerned? thank you! ૮ ․ ․ ྀིა
