2024.05.17 09:52 happymod-ios iOS 16.7.8 Jailbreak

iOS 16.7.8 Jailbreak
The iOS 16.7.8 jailbreak opens up a world of possibilities for your iPhone or iPad. By breaking free from Apple's restrictions, you can customize your device, install apps from third-party sources, and access otherwise unavailable features. This article explores jailbreaking, the benefits and risks involved, and how you can jailbreak your iOS 16.7.8 device.

What is Jailbreaking?

Jailbreaking is removing software restrictions imposed by Apple on iOS devices. This allows users to gain root access to the operating system, enabling software installation and tweaks not authorized by Apple. Jailbreaking is similar to rooting on Android devices.

Why Jailbreak Your iOS 16.7.8 Device?

  1. Customization: Jailbreaking allows you to customize the look and feel of your device. You can change icons, themes, and fonts to match your style.
  2. Third-Party Apps: Access apps that are not available on the App Store. Many of these apps offer unique features and functionalities that can enhance your user experience.
  3. Tweaks and Enhancements: Install tweaks that can improve system performance, add new features, or enhance existing ones. For example, you can add new gestures, improve battery life, or unlock hidden settings.
  4. File Management: Gain access to the file system, allowing you to manage files more effectively. This can be particularly useful for advanced users who need more control over their devices.
  5. Bypass Restrictions: Remove limitations imposed by Apple, such as restrictions on certain apps or features. This can include bypassing carrier restrictions or enabling features like tethering.

Risks of Jailbreaking

While jailbreaking offers many benefits, it also comes with risks:
  1. Security Risks: Jailbreaking removes some of the built-in security features of iOS, making your device more vulnerable to malware and unauthorized access.
  2. Stability Issues: Jailbroken devices may experience more frequent crashes or instability, especially if you install incompatible tweaks or apps.
  3. Warranty Void: Jailbreaking voids your device's warranty. Apple may refuse to service your device if you encounter hardware or software issues.
  4. Updates: Updating a jailbroken device can be tricky. Apple frequently patches jailbreak exploits in new iOS updates, so you may have to wait for a new jailbreak to become available after updating.

Preparing for Jailbreaking

Before you start the jailbreaking process, there are a few things you should do to prepare:
  1. Backup Your Device: Use iCloud or iTunes to back up your data. This ensures you can restore your device if something goes wrong during jailbreaking.
  2. Update iTunes: Ensure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer.
  3. Charge Your Device: Ensure your device is fully charged or connected to a power source to prevent it from dying during jailbreaking.

How to Jailbreak iOS 16.7.8

Follow these steps to jailbreak your iOS 16.7.8 device:
  1. Visit InstantJB: Go to https://www.instantjb.com/cydia-ios-16-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-jailbreak.html to download the necessary jailbreaking tool.
  2. Download the Tool: Download the jailbreaking tool provided on the website. Make sure to follow any additional instructions provided on the site.
  3. Connect Your Device: Connect your iOS device to your computer using a USB cable.
  4. Run the Tool: Open the jailbreaking tool and follow the on-screen instructions. This typically involves putting your device into DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode and allowing the tool to exploit vulnerabilities to jailbreak your device.
  5. Install Cydia: Once the Jailbreak is complete, you should see the Cydia app on your home screen. Cydia is the app store for jailbroken devices, where you can find and install tweaks, themes, and apps.

  6. BiteSMS: Enhances the messaging app with features like quick replies, scheduled messages, and more.
  7. Zeppelin: You can change the carrier logo on your status bar to a custom image.
  8. WinterBoard: This lets you apply themes to change the appearance of your device.
  9. Cercube: Adds features to the YouTube app, such as background playback and video downloads.
  10. BioProtect: Protects your apps with Touch ID or Face ID.

Troubleshooting Common Jailbreak Issues

While jailbreaking can enhance your device, you may encounter some common issues. Here are solutions to a few common problems:
  1. Device Not Recognized: If your computer doesn't recognize your device, try using a different USB cable or port. Ensure that iTunes is up to date.
  2. Jailbreak Fails: If the jailbreak process fails, restart your device and computer and try again. Make sure you carefully follow the instructions provided by the jailbreaking tool.
  3. Boot Loop: If your device is stuck in a boot loop, try entering DFU mode and restoring your device through iTunes. You may need to attempt the Jailbreak again after restoring it.
  4. Cydia Crashes: If Cydia crashes, try rebooting your device. If the problem persists, you may need to reinstall Cydia or restore your device and Jailbreak.

Conclusion

2024.05.16 00:03 polloponzi An Exclusive Prison Chat With Sam Bankman-Fried

For the first time since his incarceration, Bankman-Fried described his daily life in a detailed interview with journalist William D. Cohan of Puck:

On a recent Tuesday, I went to the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn for an intimate chat with America’s most famous prisoner, Sam Bankman-Fried. During our 75-minute conversation, we discussed everything from Caroline Ellison and the travails of his new life, to his regrets about the demise of FTX and his forthcoming appeal.
I got the distinct impression that Sam still doesn’t believe he committed any crimes, only that he was the one responsible for putting FTX in a position where it was vulnerable to a bank run and the devious actions of its competitors
WILLIAM D. COHAN -- May 9, 2024
On Tuesday afternoon, I found myself in the most unusual circumstances—sitting on a small plastic chair at a cramped table in the Metropolitan Detention Center, the federal prison on 29th Street in Sunset Park, in Deep Brooklyn. Outside, it was a gorgeous day, the sort of picturesque and slightly humid one that inevitably reminds longtime New Yorkers of the weather on the morning of September 11th. Inside the prison’s visiting room, however, there was no natural light, no sunshine, only the Hitchcockian buzz of fluorescent bulbs and three vending machines standing in a corner. Posters on the wall attempted to compensate for the bleak atmosphere by buoyantly welcoming visiting families.
I first met Sam Bankman-Fried in December 2021, during the height of his power and influence, when he was the richest person in the world under 30. My friend Anthony Scaramucci, a.k.a. The Mooch, had connected us. On a cold winter night at the One Hotel, on Sixth Avenue, I interviewed him for a documentary I am part of making about Bitcoin and its developer, Satoshi Nakamato. Sam showed up an hour late, in a black t-shirt and cargo shorts, apparently having just flown in via private jet from the Bahamas. A month later, Sam’s cryptocurrency exchange, FTX, would raise its final $400 million round of financing from a group of highfalutin investors—led by Softbank, Temasek, and Paradigm—at a valuation of $32 billion, making the company one of the most valuable in the sector. At that moment, Sam was said to be worth $26 billion.
This week, we reconnected amid very different circumstances. Sam and I arranged for this visit through his Corrlinks email account, at the suggestion of his mother, Barbara Fried, and the family’s prison advisor. We met on Tuesday around 1 p.m. because that was the only day that visiting hours are permitted at MDC, a hangover from the Covid era. Prisoners can have visitors for one of two sessions, either starting at noon or at five in the afternoon.
We were meeting later than noon because of the staffing shortage at the facility. I was allowed to bring in $1 or $5 bills, up to a total of $30, in case I wanted to buy Sam some water, soda, or snacks from the humming vending machines. I was told to put my $20 bill as well as my wallet and iPhone into a locker. Sam was not permitted to buy anything himself.
Following about an hour of bureaucratic snafus (I went to the wrong building at first, and I wasn’t wearing dark pants—although an exception was made for me) and other forms of prison processing (shoes and belt off, metal detection, sticking my hand in a scanner) I was finally allowed inside the prison, without a phone, a watch, a recording device, or even a pad of paper and a pencil. (I knew this in advance, of course, and set about preserving my recollections of our conversation immediately after leaving the facility.)
After a few minutes of waiting, I looked up to see Sam Bankman-Fried, over in the corner, dressed head to toe in a chocolate-brown prison jumpsuit, along with the still-wild frizzy hair that has been his trademark. These days, Sam looks considerably thinner than the last time we met—it appeared he’d lost 25 pounds, at least. But he looked better and fitter than I thought he would, to be honest—less pudgy, less manic, less fidgety, no bags under his eyes.
He was sustaining himself on rice and beans, he said, because the prison food was unsurprisingly inedible, especially the vegan entrées he was served, which his fellow inmates thought literally smelled like shit. He wasn’t complaining, mind you; he noted that he was just trying to make the best of a bad situation. The rice he buys at the prison commissary has become one of the currencies of the realm inside MDC. We joked briefly about how the arbitrage opportunities in jail were better than anything he experienced trading crypto at Jane Street Capital or buying and selling assets at Alameda. He looked me in the eye pretty much the whole time, something he rarely did with people in the old days.
After we shook hands, he sat down in his own plastic chair as a camera watched us from the ceiling. We were surrounded by a couple of other inmates, dressed similarly, facing their visitors. Sam declined my initial offer to buy him some snacks but ultimately agreed to a $4 bottle of water and a small $2 package of Wheat Thins, which he eagerly consumed.
We talked for the next 75 minutes or so, the first in-person interview he has given to a journalist since he was locked up in the MDC last August and then subsequently convicted of two counts of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, securities fraud, commodities fraud, and money-laundering at his federal trial in November. In March, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Our chat, under these rather drastic circumstances, was a profoundly jarring and fascinating experience.

Prison Diaries

Sam began by answering my question about his life in prison. According to him, he lives in an area of the jail that was dedicated mostly to incarcerated women, save for the 35 men with whom he shares a dormitory-style existence in a big open room—bunk beds, no privacy, extreme boredom, and four television sets tuned to ESPN, Telemundo, BET, and a news channel. Sam said he could try to persuade his fellow inmates to change up the channel selection, but television bores him, so he has no interest in that challenge. He prefers watching a small selection of movies or playing some inferior video games on a tablet, without an internet connection, that the prison provides him and other inmates.
When I told him he seemed better than I had anticipated, he replied that he’d become good at faking it. So, yes, life inside the MDC is not the Bahamas. But, truly, I had expected to see him coping less well. At the MDC, Sam has mostly been permitted his prescription medications, and the cocktail he’s been allowed has him thinking clearly, he said, and energized for the legal battle he plans to wage soon against the verdict.
In the meantime, he told me, he doesn’t fear for his safety. He can use the bathroom and shower a couple of times a week in peace. He’s always been a light sleeper, and he’s still not sleeping soundly at the MDC, but mostly because people sometimes bug him during the night about those bags of rice, which they intend to use to barter. He has not been touched or abused, and he seemed notably thankful for that.
He acknowledged that he has a unique rap sheet at MDC, and his fellow prisoners indeed recognize him. He estimated that about half of the other 35 men in his unit were murderers who had been turned into cooperating witnesses for the prosecution in exchange for not serving a life sentence. In prison, many inmates consider cooperating witnesses the lowest form of vermin, lower even than child molesters. Sam also told me that some of the other prisoners tried to get close to him, thinking they would benefit financially from the proximity to a former billionaire. He doesn’t play along, he said.
We didn’t talk about his trial strategy or whether he intentionally siphoned off the $8 billion of FTX customer funds into Alameda. Both topics seemed moot at this point. We did discuss his onetime girlfriend, Caroline Ellison, whom he selected to run Alameda after lawyers kept hounding him about the inherent conflicts in him running both FTX and the hedge fund. (He chose to run FTX.) He acknowledged that he had asked a few other people if they would be interested in the role, but they turned him down. Ellison, he said, was a good manager of people and a good administrator but didn’t like making big investments and didn’t like taking risks. (Obviously, this seems like a bizarre aversion for a hedge fund manager, but I didn’t belabor the point.) In any event, Alameda ended up doing both.
He regretted that he had not tried harder to find another executive. He also said he should have ignored the lawyers and just kept running both FTX and Alameda, conflicts be damned, sort of like how Elon Musk oversees his various companies. Wishing he had ignored his lawyers’ advice emerged as a theme of Sam’s during our visit.

Legal Therapy

We did talk a fair amount about his appeal and about how he believed he was set up to be the fall guy—the victim of the old build-’em-up-only-to-tear-’em-down narrative arc. His theory of the case was that by the fall of 2022, it was every man for himself on a boat that looked to be sinking. By early November 2022, FTX was facing a liquidity crunch. Sam first sought a deal with Binance, which quickly fell apart or was never truly real, and was in the process of trying to raise billions in capital when his lawyers advised him to turn the keys of FTX over to John J. Ray III, which he did. Ray quickly filed FTX for bankruptcy and installed Sullivan & Cromwell, the company’s outside counsel, as counsel to the debtor.
Sam became the target of federal prosecutors, he told me, soon after FTX’s outside counsel at Sullivan & Cromwell made a presentation to them, on November 9, 2022, a day or so before the bankruptcy filing, about what they believed Sam may have engineered between FTX and Alameda, which has been described as the theft of $8 billion of customer money. In a sworn declaration about that meeting, S&C attorney Andrew Dietderich said he reported to the D.O.J. only what Ryne Miller, FTX’s U.S. general counsel, told him about a problem of “reconciling digital assets with entitlements” on FTX’s U.S. exchange, and nothing about Sam and his alleged transgressions.
Sam told me that had he not been persuaded by Sullivan & Cromwell and then by his personal attorneys to relinquish his job as C.E.O. to Ray, the company would not have filed for bankruptcy, and it would still be a thriving enterprise, worth $80 billion now. In this alternate reality, he would be worth $40 billion and he certainly wouldn’t be at the MDC. (S&C declined to comment on Sam’s theory of the case. It’s also fair to reiterate here that Sam was sentenced to 25 years in prison after a jury convicted him of the crimes described above.)
I got the distinct impression that Sam still doesn’t believe he committed any crimes, only that he was the one responsible for putting FTX in a position where it was vulnerable to a bank run and the devious actions of its competitors, not unlike how both Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers failed in 2008. Why, Sam wondered, was he prosecuted when no one at either Bear or Lehman faced criminal prosecution? During our chat, Sam was contrite and certainly chastened, but not exactly apologetic: He was adamant about his innocence, aside from a few degrees of negligence—punishable, in his view, perhaps by civil consequences, not criminal penalties and a quarter-century sentence.
According to Sam’s theory, he isn’t in prison for commingling assets of FTX and Alameda. Instead, he’s an innocent guy who didn’t get a chance to negotiate a deal with the federal prosecutors, and wonders why he was even prosecuted at all for what he believes was a form of a bank run. Instead, they just presented him with his indictment and told him he could eat it— accept it and plead guilty and then get sentenced, or go to trial and try to fight it. Since there was no plea bargain on the table, he said, he fought the charges at trial, and lost. Unlike his fellow inmates, he told me, Sam speaks to his new attorney nearly every weekday for an hour or so, as the focus of his appeal comes into view. He expects to file it this fall. Yes, he will appeal, but most people think he faces long odds of success.
On the day of my visit, Sullivan & Cromwell, still counsel to the debtor-in-possession in FTX’s bankruptcy case, filed a first draft of a plan of reorganization that appears to give its customers and creditors all of their money back, plus a little more—a return of $15 billion on $12 billion of claims—in large part because of the investments Sam made through Alameda. The plan, which still has a long way to go before being confirmed, also gives Sullivan & Cromwell, along with other FTX advisors, “exculpation” from future lawsuits related to its conduct in the matter. This is not unusual in a plan of reorganization. But Sam has exhaustive thoughts on this subject, which I may explore with him in a follow-up conversation.

Go West, Young Man

I’m not sure how much longer Sam will be at the MDC, and neither is he. He has asked to remain in Brooklyn at least until the fall, when his appellate brief will be filed. But that’s not up to him, of course. If he gets moved, which could come at any moment without warning or explanation, I’m told, it would probably be to California, closer to Palo Alto, where he grew up, the son of two Stanford Law professors. At that point, the question will be whether he gets to spend his incarcerated years in a federal penitentiary, which are mostly nasty places filled with hardened criminals, or in more of a minimum security prison, as Mike Milken once did.
If he does get moved out of Brooklyn, his family and legal team worry, he could spend as long as four months on a bus, handcuffed to the seat, making his way, slowly, across the country. Such prison buses make frequent stops—picking up new prisoners, dropping off others—which explains why they take so long to reach their final destinations. There’s also a remote possibility that he could be placed on one of the many planes operated by the U.S. Marshals Service, a.k.a. “Con Air.” But he’s more likely to get the infamous “diesel therapy,” they fear. Either way, during this hypothetical cross-country journey, Sam would be completely incommunicado with both his family and his lawyers until he reaches his new home in California, deprived of the minimal access to the internet and email he now enjoys in Brooklyn.
Just as we were getting ready to discuss some knotty issues, such as his choices during his trial or the fact that many of the people who once worked for him had turned against him to save themselves, our visiting time was up. It was non-negotiable. We quickly shook hands again. Then Sam went back to his dormitory and I went back outside into a glorious spring afternoon.

2024.05.15 20:11 Fishappy0 Status update for my LG CXPTA48 at 1135 Hours as a PC monitor!

Hi, I rarely post on reddit or on forums so excuse my bad formatting or wording. I feel like this info might help reassuring or inform some future oled buyers out there. Let's cut to the chase, here's my settings, pics and some info:
TL;DR: 1135 hrs in and absolutely no burn-ins at 15%-35% oled light all the time, while I code on VSC, play games at 1440p, have discord fixed on the left side. Taskbar hidden, OLED black theme if possible, all the screen savers features enabled, ran pixel refresher about 10 times in total. No max contrast or crazy cranked HDR brightness thingy.
All in all, if you're new to oled don't worry about burn-ins, if you don't have anything at maxed-out brightness and crazy contrast of course. Apart from that, I'm loving this oled experience!
ps: I'm happy to answer any questions related to my OLED, as well as respond to any request for more info like pics etc.

2024.05.15 14:33 NotLostBut_Wandering [Question] Creating whole themes and easily switching between them

Hi everyone! After lurking and looking around the wiki, guides and FAQ, I have yet to find an answer to my question.
I'm very new to theming, I updated my iPhone to iOS 17 two days ago, and discovered you can have several lockscreen/homescreen wallpapers sets and easily swap them. I then went down a rabbit hole of wallpapers, widgets and icons. But I also discovered that changing you wallpaper doesn't change your widgets or icons unfortunately (apart from the lockscreen ones).
So let's say I have a Helluva Boss theme and an Arcane theme, complete with their own icons and widgets. Swaping between Helluva Boss and Arcane wallpapers is great, but the icons and widgets will stay the same, ie if I change from HB to Arcane, my widgets and icons will still be HB themed.
My question is this (and I'm not even sure it's feasable): is there a way to create complete themes (wallpaper+custom icons+widgets) and switch between them like you would switch between wallpapers? As in, you create a shorcut or use some app to press a button (or a few of them) and everything would change at once. I have found one app that could potentially make it easier (Screenkit) with their "easy install" process, but you can't try it out for free, and I'm not even sure the themes themselves are customizable or if you can create your own. (Also the whole "Jesus is love, Jesus is lord" thing annoyed me to no end.)
-I have an iPhone SE 2nd generation, with iOS17.4.1
-I know how to use shortcuts to replace normal app icons with custom ones
-I have Themify, Widgetable and Widgetsmith installed (I've already created some widgets with Widgetsmith)
-I know nothing about coding or iOS backend stuff, but I'm more than willing to learn
-I wouldn't mind jealbreaking my phone (its coverage has expired years ago anyway)
-I obviously prefer free stuff, but I wouldn't mind paying for apps if I'm sure it'll do what I need it to
Thank you! 😊

2024.05.14 23:23 Monkeygills Has anyone else heard a new Febreeze ad that uses the outro music?

Just now, I was listening to a long video on Youtube and got a 5sec ad. I heard the Morning Somewhere outro music, so I looked down to see why my iPhone started playing random apps for no reason again to see the tail end of Febreeze ad. Has anyone else seen this yet? Is it AI generated for me, specifically? How upset is Burnie that he went 50 pages deep on stock theme music to have Febreeze comandeer it within 6 months?

2024.05.14 16:57 ----y2k---- Nokia 3210 4G First Impressions

Nokia 3210 4G First Impressions
My keen interest in both new and old mobile tech had me very interested in the 25th anniversary release of the 3210 4G.
I managed to source the only one available in all of Adelaide here in Australia on its release date. It’s interesting, while this will not replace my iPhone 15 Pro, the excitement while unboxing it and first handling it had me smiling from ear to ear. It feels solid yet light in the hand, it’s compact like the Nokias of the early ‘00s and it’s far better quality in the way of materials and fit & finish when compared to the Nokia 8210 4G or the Nokia 2660.
The switch to a TFT IPS LCD was long overdue as it results in far better viewing angles, better colour reproduction and a much nicer overall experience. The 2.4” display is a nice balance in the way of size and resolution as the slightly smaller display means a higher pixel density of 167ppi which means a sharper display when compared to the Nokia 235 4G or the 8210 4G at 143ppi.
What I like:
• TFT IPS LCD (though it would be nice to see HMD step up their game and move to an even higher resolution display at 264ppi or even 326ppi).
• USB-C.
• Tactile buttons and the keypad buttons are a good size, are well spaced and are reminiscent of the original 3210 that the handset is paying homage to.
• Small and compact.
• 2mp camera is fun and reminiscent of the early 2000s Nokias which floods back a lot of nostalgia.
• The available handset colours are gorgeous!
What could improve:
• HMD, let us delete unwanted apps and games!
• I would love to see a notes app.
• I would like to see a light mode, not just a dark mode.
• I would love to see a higher resolution display, 264ppi or even 326ppi would be great! I would be willing to pay more for the phone if it meant adding higher end features such as this.
• I would like to see a better loudspeaker.
• More RAM and a strong CPU/GPU, again I’d be happy to pay more for this.
• More customisable features like the themes that older Nokias had, just because it’s a “dumb phone” doesn’t meant it has to be boring.
• WIFI and a GPS antenna.
• Preinstalled apps like Spotify and Google Maps would be a welcome addition.
• Keypad tones to not sound like a ridiculous cartoonish drop of water. Why can it not be a simple crisp click sound?
• I’d love to remove the SIM slot information from the home screen.
• The option of having the battery percentage on the home screen would be nice.

2024.05.13 20:19 ikieneng My fanfiction - Episode 2

My fanfiction - Episode 2
The next part is here! This episode is actually so long that I'm going to split it, so today, you're only getting part 1 of 3.
DISCLAIMERS (the same ones as before)
The point of this fanfiction is not to be a straight-up continuation of events with the same themes, intensity, and tone. If you go into it with those expectations, you are probably not going to like it. Rather, it’s supposed to be how I wish things went if these events were real life. The resolution you want for a real-life situation isn’t often the right choice for a show, but it can be incredibly beautiful. Think of what you’re about to read to be a separate show then.
Episode 1 of this fanfiction begins after the episode “2:00” (season 2 episode 4), so it replaces the episode “Cake” and the ones that follow it. This fanfiction expects you to have seen the entirety of seasons 1 and 2, so you should watch those first.
I myself bursting into the story here. The narrator and me are the same. While my character is like 95% real me, don’t take events about my life described here as facts. Some aspects of my life have been changed for the story. In my head, I started writing like an “alternate me” character in 2016, fulfilling a lot of the things that I wish I had in life, adding that to my story. I’m not really from Ukraine. I speak fluent Ukrainian as a foreign language, I started learning it in 2014, and I’ve talked to tons of people from there, but I’m not from Ukraine. I also don’t have as much money as I do in the story. I wish lmao.
If you want to post your own fanfiction, feel free to do so! To get your own post flair for your fanfic, and to appear in the side bar, please message me.
SEASON 2 EPISODE 6 - “ATTIC”
Part 1 (day 1)
So I'd be scheduled to work with Sean in the kitchen again, maybe a few days later, and Leanne would be "allowed" out of the attic again and have some time in the kitchen with me, like with Tobe in the real show (which Dorothy only started to allow because her strategy of pure torture and isolation wasn't working...). Julian would be there to watch us while Dorothy is at work (it would be around 10-11 AM) and Sean is shopping for new parts for the dishwasher.
https://preview.redd.it/0c1nl07xi80d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=e80511c2313074880382dd5b1773a6a046c0c90b
This time, we’d be told to cook something for Sean, following his recipe, maybe filling squid with a mix of mashed vegetables and spices.
This time, we’d be told to cook something for Sean, following his recipe, maybe filling squid with a mix of mashed vegetables and spices.
With Julian there, we’d be pretty limited in the things we can talk about, but the air would be noticeably lighter because of my gift for Leanne that neither of us can talk about yet, and you could tell on her face and especially in her eyes how much that has touched her. I’d imagine we’d talk about the stuff either of us likes to cook. She’d tell me that she doesn’t actually cook that much on her own. I’d be surprised and ask what she likes to eat, and she’d open one of the drawers and show me the cans upon cans of tomato soup and tell me she likes to just warm up a can every day and add some side dish on the plate, like toast, and something to drink, usually just water. She’d be a bit embarrassed about it because her experience is that people think that’s weird, but I’d tell her that I think that’s cute, and she could tell on my face that I mean it. I’d tell her how I eat obscene amounts of Ben & Jerry’s, even more so in the summer, and how her eating so much tomato soup reminds me of that, and I’d tell her how I drink sooo much Cola Zero that I’ve built up a lot of resistance to caffeine. “I can drink a whole two liter bottle, take my meds, and then go to bed just like that” (Side note: Coca Cola’s US website actually lists a two liter bottle among their sizes. Is that correct?) She’d be amazed and almost not believe me, but I’d show her my almost empty two-liter bottle in my backpack, with a little bit of condensed water from my fridge still on the outside, and she’d look at me with big eyes, bewildered and amazed, and we’d both chuckle before Julian tells us to stop. Quite confused, I’d ask why, like, what’s wrong with us laughing, and he’d tell us something like me not being there to have fun. I’d ask “Mister… What’s your surname?” - “Pearce” - “Do you have employees, Mister Pearce?” - “My father does, and I wouldn’t hire you anyway.” - “Oh, good, I wasn’t going to apply for a job with you in the first place. I can’t say I’m surprised that nobody wants to work for you.”
Leanne would be proud that I’m sticking it like that to Julian, and before he even has a chance to reply, she’d ask him “Could you please get us some wheat flour from the basement?” - “You want me to get you a fucking bottle, too?” - “Two would be nice.” - (Julian rolls his eyes) “I think I’d get two for myself, so I don’t lose it with you both!”, and he goes into the basement. As soon as Leanne can hear the door shut, she would suddenly tell me to fill up a bag she takes out from under the sink with ALL of the water bottles in the kitchen and a lot of the food in there that can be eaten as is and doesn't require cooking, and she’d tell me to do the same with my backpack, quietly go up to the attic, and hide there, so I can’t be seen if Julian comes upstairs, anticipating that she will be left alone in there again for days without food. I'd be confused at first, but she'd frantically beg me to do it immediately, and I'd trust her, I’d nod and say “okay” and do it. Julian would come back, and she'd pretend that I left. Julian would command her around again to finish up in the kitchen, and soon after, he'd lock her in the attic again, not knowing that I'm there.
I'd be shocked and really confused and concerned after realizing he just locked us in, and in that moment, she'd come to me, begging me on her knees to get her out of there, crying. At first, I’d just look around in shock with my jaw dropped, but then, I'd just hug her and just comfort her and let her know I'll do it. I'd feel so sorry for her... I wouldn’t know yet how long she’s been locked up for and why, but that wouldn’t matter for me to decide to help her. Really confused, I’d ask her to tell me what’s going on and why she’s locked up there. I’d be so shocked.
Once she’s calmed down enough after begging me to help her in full desperation, we’d sit down on the mattress. She’d tell me the full story - from the moment she first arrived at the Turners' in season 1 to now, including Dorothy’s brutal acts of violence and the pranks Julian and Sean played on her in season 1 to drive her out of the house, but she'd only mention the Church of Lesser Saints in passing as that's another really painful and complex topic she doesn't want to get into, and she wouldn't tell me about reanimating the doll yet because she knows how unbelievable the truth sounds (she tries not to let anyone know about her powers anyway). She'd stop several times while telling me all that because it's so hurtful, and I'd just comfort her and hug her . She’d cry out that it’s her fault and that she never should have come back. I’d just tell her that none of this is her fault and that she didn’t “come back” because she was taken against her will. “You can’t blame yourself for any of that. It’s not like they gave you a choice. It’s not your fault.” I’d tell her that she deserves none of the things they’ve done to her, I’d be absolutely horrified by them. She’d tell me about Sean’s visits to her, how he stopped coming upstairs after she was buried alive,
https://preview.redd.it/nfcpodj7j80d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=51f4fc8c9cf9bbc64ed04133019220890cb18b05
and how he told her stories about Dorothy to try and make her (Leanne) feel sorry for her (Dorothy), so she can tell him where Jericho is. “I told him that Jericho died, and he just said nothing and stood up and got out after a while. He knows that there’s nothing I can do…” While she cries on my shoulder, I’d just comfort her, rubbing her back, and just express my absolute shock at the things she’s telling me and just try to make her feel at least a little bit better. I’d be like “Those are the worst things I’ve ever heard… He actually defends her? Like, he got you out of a hole in the ground and still told you that she’s ‘ not a bad person ’?” Leanne would nod. “Oh my God, what a piece of shit… What an absolute piece of shit… I’m so sorry you’re going through that… She’s trying to kill you, she’s starving you, she forces you to use the bucket, and… Oh my God, I’m so sorry…”
I’d just let her cry for a little while as I’m comforting her. I’d cry myself, just so shocked and horrified and scared. Unsure if that’s what she wants to do, she’d ask me if I’m going to call the police. I’d ask her how long she thinks we’ll be in here, and she’d say she doesn’t know. “Do you think someone will come up here before tonight?”, and she’d shake her head. “Mr. and Mrs. Turner don’t come up during the day anymore”. I’d suggest we wait until everyone’s asleep tonight and then try to find a way out. She’d say that she’s already tried everything, and I’d be like “Of course, but now, we got a lot more options because you’re not alone up here anyway. Like, okay, that’s gonna sound really hard, and it probably is, but I can try to step up on your shoulders and reach the skylight, stuff like that. If we can sneak out without them knowing, that’s probably a lot safer for you than calling the police while we’re unarmed and the Turners are not. And the last thing you need right now is another traumatic situation”. She’d look up at me, surprised that I’m even considering her well-being like this. “And if we don’t manage to get out tonight, we can still come up with a plan. What do you say?” And she’d smile and nod. I’d smile back and rub her back and say “Heeey, it’s gonna be alright. I’m getting you out of here! Until tonight, let’s just make the best of it!”, and she’d smile really hard at that, which would really touch me, seeing her smile like that because she has hope now, and she’d almost cry.
“So how did you like the cake?”, I’d randomly ask her. She’d look me directly in the eyes and tell me how delicious it was, full of joy, and show me the porcelain baby and say that she wants to keep it. I’d be like “I told you you’re special!” with a big smile and embrace her over the shoulders as she’s smiling back. She’d go “Thank you so much, Daria!”, and I’d be like “Of course!”
I’d then go “Hey, let’s eat some of this stuff! You must be starving!”, and we’d divide the food and water we got upstairs, dividing it into rations for three days (just to be sure…), making her ration for today a bit bigger because she hasn’t eaten in days. Because calling the police would create a dangerous situation for us (and it’s not like there are any lengths the Turners wouldn’t go to), we’d keep that as a last resort if we run out of food, “but let’s see what we can do tonight”. Among the food in my backpack would be every single can of tomato soup from the kitchen and a can opener 😊 Even though it’s cold, the soup would be like heaven to her! And I’d be like “Mmm! Hey, honestly, this is way better than I expected!” - “You like it?” - “Yeah! I thought it might be a bit dull, but there’s, like, what’s in here? I think there’s some celery, definitely some salt, and there are some chunkier bits, like, yeah, this is pretty good!” This is her comfort and favorite food, and because it’s such a rare choice, I don’t think anyone has ever told her that they like it (even the way Dorothy said “You do love that soup, don’t you?” in season 1 kinda communicated that she found it odd or weird),
https://preview.redd.it/m0qd3ffbj80d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=3ca1365daff79f8b126460f21423e516ee5e9dd7
and she’d love hearing that! I’d ask her if she’s ever had Ben & Jerry’s, and she’d say she hasn’t. “I’m gonna give you some when we’re out of here, you’re gonna love it! My favorite flavor is Cookie Dough S’Wich Up, it’s like vanilla ice cream mixed with cookie dough, Oreo pieces, and brownie pieces, and also some chocolatey stuff mixed in with the vanilla in some spots!”, and that would sound great to her, she’d look forward to it. And I’d give her the rest of my Cola Zero. She’s probably had some before, but right now, she’d enjoy every bit of it.
I’d take out my two phones at some point (I actually do have two - an iPhone 15 Pro Max and a Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini lmao, but there was no 15 Pro Max at this time, so I’d have an iPhone 13 Pro Max here) and give her the Samsung because, like, we don’t really know for sure if anyone will come upstairs before tonight. I’d add my own number as a contact as well and add her as a contact on my iPhone under the number of the Samsung phone, so this way, she can call the police herself if the Turners find me upstairs with her, and the police can find out where I am if anything happens to me, and vice-versa.
After we’re done eating, knowing that we’re left with like ten to eleven hours until we can try to get out, we’d just sit there on the mattress saying nothing for a few seconds. Breaking the silence, I’d look around a bit and ask “Did the attic look the way it did when you… you know, or did you decorate it like this?”
https://preview.redd.it/x38rzmzdj80d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=18f45af349fce7f3783887e7e2eb3a27c7c27ced
She’d say she did. “It’s beautiful, especially with the lights and stuff! You’ve got a good eye!”, and she’d smile a bit in embarrassment. I’d be like “Hey, I mean it! No need to be embarrassed!” and then say “Have you heard about, like, I don’t know what to call it, but some department stores have LED chains that you can stick to surfaces and control the color of with a remote. Most of them can even fade back and forth between colors. When we’re out of here, if you want, I can show you some. If you already like these lights, you’re gonna love them!”, and she’d smile and say that that sounds great! I’d show her some on my phone, and we’d imagine putting them up around us and talk about our ideas that we couldn’t realize because we obviously just wanna get out of there, and we’d talk about where we’re gonna go once we are. I’d suggest my place, a small rental house like twelve minutes by bike from there that’s technically in East Lansdowne, where we can stay at least for a little while, and she’d say she’d love to, but to please take her somewhere safe where the Turners can’t find her, somewhere far away, certainly not this close to them. I’d suggest going to a hotel, and that would sound great to her. We’ll probably have to go to my place first just to get my stuff, but yeah, we can go to a hotel from there. I’d again just reassure her that it’s gonna be alright.
She’d bring up that I told her I’ve spent an exchange year in California, and I’d say that yes, I’ve spent a year in San Diego and add “Still the best year of my life.” She’d ask why, and in her own words, she’d say that we talked so much about HER life, and she wants to know some more about me. I’d tell her I wasn’t the first one in my family to do a student exchange year. My sister went to Denmark from 2008 to 2009. “You got a sister?”, Leanne would ask, and I’d tell her I got two and ask about her family, and she’d tell me she’s an only child. I’d tell her my sisters moved out, or rather, they were forced out, in 2007 (I think) and 2012, so I was alone with my parents for several years, which felt a lot longer. “Time already flies by at twenty-three now”. And anyway, at the time, I thought my mother, who did most of the “parenting”, wanted to make me happy by letting me go abroad for a year, but in retrospect, it’s pretty obvious that she just wanted to be rid of me for a year, the same as when my sister went to Denmark. In retrospect, I remember how many arguments she and my sister had after she came back, which was partly because she definitely enjoyed being rid of her for a year, and then, she had to “deal” with her again. Leanne and me would just lock eyes, and I’d say “We both got terrible moms” and chuckle because of it while still having sad expressions on our faces.
I’d say “Anyway, my first choice were the US, and I got placed with a family in San Diego, California, or [sãn ˈd̪je.ɣ̞o] in Spanish”. Surprised, she’d ask “You speak Spanish, too??”, and I’d be like “Yeah, but not back then”, and in awe, she’d ask how many languages I speak. I’d answer her in each language before saying what language I was just speaking in - fluent Ukrainian, English, and R*ssian, rather good Spanish, some French and Dutch, and I’ve forgotten most of the Finnish and Azeri that I used to know, and I’d show her on Google Maps where that’s even spoken. She’d be really impressed ahaha, and a bit embarrassed about herself. I’d be like “Hey, it’s okay, you don’t need to compare yourself to anyone. Life’s not a competition”, and that would be a really important lesson in life for her, certainly very different from how she’s been taught to think before, especially by her mother and by the Turners. She seems pretty smart anyway, and when I tell her that, she’d be really surprised and flat-out say no, and I’d be like “You’re super resourceful in the kitchen, like, you can come up with solutions to problems pretty quickly, you’re great at remembering details, and you already know that you got lots of special skills! I’d say you’re pretty smart!”, and she’d smile again before making a sadder face and telling me that she never went to school because the Church never let her. I’d be like “That’s… That’s horrible. If you want, there are YouTube channels out there that maybe you can use to learn about all the stuff you missed out on”, and she’d nod a little with a bit of a smile. “Doesn’t say anything about your intelligence anyway. Credentials are only credentials, and school is pretty terrible at telling you how smart you are.”
Back on talking about California, I’d tell her about my year there from August 2014 to August 2015. While there, I didn’t even realize how free I was all of a sudden because I was away from my parents for the first long time in my life. I changed a lot in that year because I didn’t have them look over my shoulder and judge my every move anymore. My mother even took me by the hand outside up until I left for America, and suddenly, I could socialize with whomever I wanted, I could stay outside of the home after school, like, AT ALL, the family I was with, they actually cared, like, I could talk to them, I could just ask when I needed stuff, and they didn’t force their restrictive values and stuff on me, I could just be me, y’know? I’d tell her that my time in California was also the first time I had a girlfriend (a little hint there ahaha), which my parents would have gone ballistic over if they found out. Leanne would ask if her and me still speak, and I’d be like “No, not in a very long time”, and she’d ask about the family I stayed with in San Diego, if we’re still speaking, and I’d be like “Oh yeah, we do. They know about where I live now, about a lot of the things that’s happened in my life since 2015, and yeah. We actually talked just a few days ago.”
“If it’s not too personal”, I’d ask, “do you still talk to your parents?”, and she’d shake her head and say she doesn’t, and that she doesn’t wanna talk about that, maybe another day, and I’d be like “Okay” and respect that.
Back on talking about California, I’d say “ignorance is bliss”, so to come back from America a year later (we already moved to Kyiv City before I left for America), where nothing had changed, with how much I had changed in that year without realizing it, my home life became horrible as a result. I suddenly realized that my parents having loud arguments several times a week is NOT normal, and I began to realize that my mother probably never cared so much about me and my autism diagnosis (which I got in 2006) because she loved me, but because she used it to cash in benefits for it all these years. I have no idea how much she received, but one time, I saw the bank statements of my parents’ shared account, and there were the equivalent of like $8000-$9000 in there, while I only received the equivalent of like $30 per month as an allowance. For years, a health inspector would come by once a year to check up on me (mostly by just talking to my mother) for continuing the granting of the money she exploited me for, and for years, she'd taught me to act like - literally - the most mentally disabled person ever during those check-ups, either ignoring the inspector completely and acting like they're not there at all, or cowering up in a corner and pretending I'm terrified. This way, she cashed in the money that's granted for the care of people whose level of disability is comparable to that of late-stage dementia patients… While the government was already struggling financially! Living in a normal environment for a year really changed me, and I didn't notice it until I came back, when I finally stopped playing along, which would make everything worse for how I was treated, and just one month later was when my parents broke up and decided they wanted a divorce, which made my world crumble even more than it already had.
If I didn’t have feelings for her, I’d probably just call the police, but because I do like her in that way already, I’d just go the extra mile and comfort her and ask her if she can tell me what’s going on and stuff, assuring her that I’ll get her out of there.
If Leanne was a completely different person and I didn't have feelings for her, I'd probably call the police, but when you're slowly starting to fall in love with somebody, you just wanna make sure they're safe and be really careful about this. I haven't gotten to a lot of the stuff in my life yet because it's a long story, but with how Leanne and me both went through parental abuse, parents who worked really hard to make us feel horrible, strict religious abusive upbringings, horrible punishments when we left religion, feeling so left behind in our development because of our upbringings and struggling to succeed in the wider world as a result (it's so hard to actually find someone who understands what that's like. I feel so much comfort and understanding knowing that Leanne can really relate to this!), and falling into the traps of other people who used our lack of experience and agency, we both went through so many similar things in different ways, and I'd think we'd bond soooo much over that, knowing and feeling how much we both understand each other through the similar things we went through, that would bring both of us so much comfort! I think we'd not just be great, but great for each other, not only through our similar experiences, but also through our similar personalities and values, like how we're not fitting in with people. I love her peculiarities so much that people just call weird, like how she eats sooooo much canned tomato soup, how she arranges everything so tidily, like her plates or her food in the kitchen, or how she keeps bugs she tries to reanimate.
https://preview.redd.it/h2t0cxyjj80d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=6df143cc40eeab0fef3b56884a424da685c2d1cf
Something I'd notice so easily at this point in the story already are the ADORABLE ways she reacts to things with her face and verbally! Some examples of what I mean by that are her short pauses before she speaks if she doesn't know how to answer right away,
https://preview.redd.it/u5yj2u9nj80d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3fdaaa7db350b8664b4f0391e5ba57621cae47a
how she answers non-verbally sometimes like smiling and nodding instead of saying yes,
https://preview.redd.it/4nkz9lvnj80d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=509294d626b4e85f75a630214fecb5a836f6955f

the way she moves her eyes when something's awkward,
https://preview.redd.it/7pits5koj80d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=45bd06c9198a480c47e61c8f8b3256fc958a7202

that is SO INCREDIBLY CUTE, I adore it so much, it adds so much to her personality! I'd notice that so hard already and absolutely adore it!
And even though we wouldn't know much about each other yet, we'd already notice and really like these things about each other. And up there, when I tell her a little bit about my life like I just have, she'd really feel for me, too and comfort me back, and that is honestly so wonderful to imagine for me ❤️ She'd sit there next to me and listen a lot and look at me, and embrace me a little bit. She wouldn't really know how to do that yet because it's not something that people ever did for me or taught her to do for others until I just came along, but she'd now know how good that feels and do it for me, too, as best as she knows how, and that's the best thing about it!
Late that night, when we think that everyone else is almost certainly asleep, we'd try to find anything we can in the room to get through the door of the attic without being loud enough to wake anyone up (because then, we'd both be screwed), but there would be nothing we could do to get out right then and there without the Turners waking up. If there was, Leanne would have been long gone already. We’re both twigs lol, so we’d step up on each other’s shoulders to try and reach the skylight, but it would be too high. We’d look for long solid objects to try and reach the skylight, but anything we find wouldn’t be enough. I’d double-check the door to the other part of the attic, and it would be locked. Smashing any doors would wake everyone up at night and make them come upstairs during the day. The window is locked, and it’s way too high for a safe fall anyway. So we'd make plans. If, in three days, we're still locked up, we will call the police because we'd have no other choice, but if Sean or someone else comes in by then, Leanne would be ""given"" a few hours out of the attic again, and they would leave the attic unlocked like they did before
https://preview.redd.it/xlgdf3mrj80d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=1b517528b4d494774c463ee320cd0ded84367809
because they'd think no one else is in there, and I would leave all the rations in the attic, sneak out of the attic, and leave through the basement. I'd leave the Samsung phone with her, so that she can reach me after I get out of there and prepare to get HER out of there. The plan would be for me to go home, taker a shower, type up everything I've seen into a PDF file addressed to the police, and send the PDF file to one of my internet friends (I actually have such a hard time making friends, another way in which Leanne and I are so similar and would really get each other). (I’m changing his name for this story for privacy reasons) I'd probably choose my friend Liam for this. I'd tell him that if I'm not back online telling him I'm safe in 24 hours, that he should then open the PDF file and call the Philadelphia police and read it all out to them. If I lived in America, I'd definitely get a gun lol. In Pennsylvania, I'd actually be able to just go buy one, I'd pass the requirements of the instant background checks. I'd get my gun, pack up everything we'd need for the next couple of weeks, and get a taxi to like one block away from the Turners', and with my gun for intimidation (considering that they're holding her hostage, this would probably fall under acting in defense of a third party), lock the Turners in the bathroom, have Leanne come downstairs, and leave with her, get to the taxi, and drive off, out of Philly, and be safe from the Turners for now.
But we'd leave the details for the next day. By this point, I'd need to tell her about some of my medical conditions, like night terrors, which usually fade during one's youth, but for me, they never did, so that she's prepared if they happen and doesn't get too freaked out, and so she knows that they're completely triggerless and can happen to me even after the best of days. I’d tell her that people don’t usually remember their night terrors at all, so she knows that I will act like nothing happened in the morning because I literally won't remember, it's only sometimes that I know that SOMETHING scary happened, but I rarely ever remember the night terrors themselves at all), and also so she knows to make sure I won't hurt myself or her if I have an episode, and also because it's a safety issue in this situation, to make sure that the Turners don't hear me, because if they did, we’d be screwed. And I'd have to tell her about my PTSD (because of the war in Ukraine, I’d tell her I’d lived through the first three days of it), which gives me nightmares, and to please wake me up if she notices I'm having those. We'd share the tiny mattress and covers that are up there, say good night, and fall asleep next to each other! Because I wouldn't have my meds, she'd fall asleep first, and I'd just look at her for a while 😊

Over 60 Days with Apple Vision Pro - Reflections and Experience - No more hate
I've been using headsets for over 7 years now. I've practically tried out every Virtual Reality headset out there (except for some professional ones): HDK OSVR 1.4, PIMAX 4K, PIMAX 8k, PIMAX 8KX, PIMAX 5K Super, PIMAX Crystal, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Vive Pro, Vive Cosmos, Vive Pro 2, Vive XR Elite, Valve Index, Rift S, Quest 1, Quest 2, Quest Pro, Magic Leap, nReal, DPVR E4, and currently Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro.
I don't think I could even count the hundreds of hours I've spent using all this technology. I'm involved in XR outreach, and well, I've had quite a privileged position in all of this. Additionally, many of you might know me as a member of Infinity One and as one of the creators of Air Cover.
For me, the Apple Vision Pro is the most impressive Extended Reality headset I've ever tested, both in terms of technology and user experience. It hasn't revolutionized anything, but it has stirred up the market with a different vision than we've had in recent years.
The Apple Vision Pro has the best screens I've seen, the best sound, the best passthrough, the best gesture recognition, and the best interface I've encountered in a device of this kind. It's intuitive, easy to handle, although there are times when I'd like to smash it against the ground when the eye tracking doesn't work as it should. Then I remember its cost, and that thought slips away.
When Tim presented it, I saw it clearly: they provide the Hardware, and it's the "obligation" of developers to create content to make this gadget usable. And I think this is the main problem many people are having: usability.
Apple marketed it as a space computing system where you can work with spatial multitasking windows and connect it to our Macs (or PC with moonlight, Immersed, etc), as well as a device to view flat and immersive multimedia content. Unfortunately, the media hype surrounding it led many people to be interested in it, especially because they were goofing around in their TikTok and YouTube videos.
Air Cover + Nylon Strap + Monster Mod BOBOVR 😂
Luckily, I'm a restless person and I give a lot of usability to the Apple Vision Pro, not only to start designing contraptions to improve ergonomics like this one I'm showing you with a sliding system to place the battery on the back using part of a BOBOVR Strap from the Quest 2 (It was just an experiment, and I had to withdraw it because of the excessive weight it entailed using it like that.), but also for what I'm about to tell you:
  • It allows me to use my virtual PC screen (moonlight) to work with it.
  • I have multitasking systems with Telegram, Discord, Mail while the main focus is on the Moonlight screen.
  • It allows me to connect to SteamVR (PC) via ALVR. Yesterday, I spent about 4 hours in VRChat with the Apple Vision Pro and without controllers (using hand tracking to move).
  • It allows me to watch multimedia content alone or with company.
  • It allows me to meet with part of the Apple Vision Pro community with Spatial Persona and chat with them.
  • It allows me to show my designs to friends or family via Facetime.
  • It allows me to browse these forums and stay up-to-date on news of all kinds.
  • It allows me to control all 3D printers with their iPad applications.
  • It allows me to play Arcade games by connecting the PS5 controller.
  • It allows me to watch spatial videos of my son or my pets (I have an iPhone 15 Pro).
  • It allows me to write scripts (I have a foldable Bluetooth keyboard) with a touchpad, and by activating Assistive Touch, I can use it as a mouse.
In short, it allows me to use it for everything I want and more. Still, the product is not perfect:
  • The weight distribution is terrible. Apple needs to work a lot on this. We designed the Air Cover and the Nylon Strap to achieve the most bearable balance possible.
  • It doesn't have virtual controllers, which would have been great for immersive gaming (although I have a feeling Apple doesn't want this type of content).
  • We lack more specific content for a particular use, taking advantage of the benefits of Mixed Reality or Spatial Computing. The famous "killer app".
  • Its price is a significant barrier for consumers, but not for developers or businesses that truly want to harness the potential of this device. The average person will only be able to buy it if they have that money and will truly make use of it.
We are at the birth of this device, a product that due to its high price and the amount of integrated technology is more than evident that it is a development product, so that all developers can use it and create unique experiences. Still, it's a product that can reach consumers, for people who can really afford it and want to use it, but without a doubt, it's a great product.
I understand the frustration of many people who have spent more than $3500 and end up returning it or leaving it in a drawer because they don't know how to use it, but personally, I am very happy with the purchase and extremely proud to own Apple Vision Pro.
What must be clear is that if you're one of those people who enjoys using Apple Vision Pro, keep doing so. Don't let yourself feel down if you go to any place and are bombarded with negative information. Generally, dissatisfied people complain, while those who enjoy something don't go to a forum to talk about it 😉
PD: Apologies if my English isn't very good; I hope everything is understood well 😅

2024.05.12 09:15 lokihorn Which way to go...seeing Moto

Brief synopsis of previous smartphones. DN why odd numbered work so well.
1-Apple iphone 2? ca 2008. what a great phone. Everything worked.
2-iphone 3?. trash proximity sensor constantly activated. No clue why we rid ourselves of iphone 2?
3-HTC One M7/8. Another great phone. Human error, left on back of car after busy weekend, found destroyed. I really screwed up here because…
4-Galaxy S5. Utterly hated this phone. Bought hype, replaceable battery. Terrible.
5-Nokia 6.1. Trash all you like, this was an EXCELLENT phone. $180. It just worked. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am Nokia basically gave up. Had to replace due to 3g only.
6-Pixel 5A. Died after 2.5 years. Pixel 5A’s are the worst in the lineup. Thought I’d found my next android 1/android clean device.
Temp 7: Samsung A25 used BB: I know now why it was returned.
I am in 10 days of cell phone hell currently. Plugged sim into son’s moto e. Wasted a lot of time.
The POS works. I know there’s a lot of trash in the background I could ADB out. I can live with it for a couple of weeks...(google 5a, replace w 6a, 5-10 biz days, need photos off 5a).
But I am starting to go to the dark side of motorola phones. Son hated it, wife still uses same phone. I have higher expectations, I think they’re overpriced for what they give, but the problem to these arguments-
They work. Motos just work. Bloatware. Yes. Overpriced for offered. Yes.
Work. Yes.
It has been HIGHLY disappointing my 5A trashed in 2.5 years. My Nokia 6.1...don’t get me started on that phone nor Nokia.

2024.05.12 07:01 Dude0069 Thoughts on Sonic Dream team? Also a needlessly long review of it (Spoilers for the story and gameplay)

Yes I'm using the intro animation final shot, it's much better than the actual title screen.
Overview
Well first off, this game is a solid 8/10 and I will spoil this game, so be warned incase you ignore the other spoiler tags. Anyway, I got to say that this is a solid mobile game and good Sonic game in my opinion (great work by Hardlight, who developed this game with a big budget supplied by Apple (biggest sin is that this game is an apple arcade exclusive and tbh, a majority wouldn't pay a monthly subscription for this game). They made three mobile Sonic games - dash, speed battle, and jump so they are pretty experienced with the Sonic IP. They were given the budget by Apple to make a Sonic game to put on Apple arcade which is how Dream Team was made). I played this game through the apple arcade 1-3 month free trial and if you have the free trial, I recommend using it for this game if you're interested (don't pay the montly subscription, it's not worth it even for this game). I had a blast despite my problems that come with mobile game and Sonic jank. Anyway let's go into the specifics
Gameplay (didn't played tail challenges nor sweet dreams, this is just base game)
Yeah that's all for gameplay. It's pretty good aside from a few quirks here and there. Some are major and some are just nitpicks, but overall, a solid gameplay experience.
Music/Animation(also art direction)/Story (also characterization) (putting them all here since they ain't that important and base game only for now)
Holy this was long and unnecessary but I feel like the game sort of deserves it. So what do you think of the game? Do you like, dislike, love, or hate this game (ignoring the apple exclusivity) and do you agree or disagree with my take of the game? Love the critism and praise since it brings good discussion. Have a nice day :)

2024.05.11 22:38 NotSoFunny_Kate What cheap phone to get to set-up as a dumb smartphone?

I'm looking for the best smartphone to dumb down.
Question:
What android phone would be a good pick? A decent to good camera would be the main spec I guess.
The story and doubts:
Although I really would like to just get a dumb phone, I think it's better to dumb down an older or simpler smart one. Mostly because I have teens, so messaging is a big thing, and I don't want to go back to T9. My 17-year-old lives abroad, so she calls and video calls me a lot through Wi-Fi/WhatsApp. My bank app also needs verification through QR, and I do like to take pictures of my kid and dog. And last but not least, I want to be able to listen to music or podcasts when on my bicycle (I am Dutch, yes).
Now, I have a brand-new Samsung S24 Ultra, Jup. And I gave my 14-year-old my iPhone 12.
What I like about Samsung is the ability to change launchers and use simple grayed-out themes (without going grayscale like on an iPhone).
So, I'm not sure. Dumb down the iPhone 12? Or buy a simple and cheap Android and adjust it to my needs and wishes? I have a feeling there are more options with Android: to clean it up, use a minimalist launcher, and be more strict and mindful with app time? But I'm not sure; I'm quite new to Android.
So again:
What android phone would be a good pick? A decent to good camera would be the main spec. Or....would you just stick with the iPhone12 (I HATE the app-drawer, lol)

2024.05.11 04:17 Dry_Dot2497 10 year iphone user now with a S24

Been rolling with Apple for ten years now and finally made the jump to a Galaxy S24, third day out here and I love it so far, the layout and flow and are definitely different from Apple. I've messed with the themes, icons, fonts etc. Tried a live translate with my wife just messing around and that was cool. Also the circle search feature is also very neat.
What else am I missing out on? Can I use live translate in a in person conversation? Is this model compatible with any type of pen?
Also, wife is die hard team iphone and now our pictures back and forth are blurry. What's up with this?

2024.05.10 19:25 kryingdriller Need feedback on a Plan of Action given to me (a beginner)

Hi everyone! I'm a complete beginner interested in exploring the word of app development. I am just interested in experiencing the process as a hobby.
I thought of building a To-do List app as a project to test myself through my learning.
Trying to use AI for it's best, I asked it to help me build a plan of action that I can use as a reference through my journey.
AIM: Things I would need from the app
  1. Should be completely free. I live in a 3rd world economy, I would rather start using a pen on my palm rather pay for any app (no disrespect to the devs).
  2. Should have notifications/reminders. (todoist free does not have this)
  3. Should have widgets & sync between iOS & MacOS.
  4. Natural Text recognition would be GREAT (not at all a necessity)
  5. Should have a SIMPLE interface. (I use notion for project management. I don't use notion as my to-do list as the input process feels quite obstructive.)
  6. Collaborative options are NOT AT ALL needed
PLAN OF ACTION PROVIDED BY AI:

To-Do List App with Swift: A Beginner's Course (1 Hour Daily)

This course is designed to guide you through building a simple to-do list app for iPhone and Mac using Swift, Apple's programming language. We'll focus on core functionalities, keeping the interface clean and user-friendly. No prior coding experience is required!
Course Duration: This course is designed for a time commitment of 1 hour daily, and should take approximately 4-8 weeks to complete.
Learning Objectives:
Course Outline:
Week 1: Introduction to Swift & Xcode
Week 2: Building the User Interface
Week 3: Coding the Core App Functionality
Week 4 (Optional): Further Exploration (Choose topics that interest you):
Resources:
I'm particularly interested in feedback on the following:

2024.05.10 17:29 RenderPolygon iPhone 4 stuck on Apple logo :(

iPhone 4 stuck on Apple logo :(
1 month ago I downgraded my iPhone 4 (3,1) from iOS 7.1.2 to 6.1.3. Worked perectly. Today I installed DreamBoard on it with “Paragon” (Windows 8.1 theme). It was kinda broken so I thought that restarting the phone was the best option (spoiler alert: that was a TERRIBLE mistake).
It got stuck on this stupid screen. I tried turning it on with iTunes recovery mode, didn’t work. Tried turning it off and on again (showed a low battery screen), NOTHING WORKED. It’s been like this for 3 HOURS NOW.
Is this the end?

2024.05.10 16:13 pkgFiles [Free Release] Pokébox Reborn

[Free Release] Pokébox Reborn
Pokébox Reborn gives your notifications a Pokémon-esque theme, complete with dark mode support and animating text!
Screenshot
Today I'm gonna release one of my private Tweaks for the whole community. This is my contribution for all the years I've been using jailbreaks for free. Thank you guys!
The original was made back in the iOS 12 jailbreak days by Skittyblock and can literally everything like the original. I've tried my best to polish it as much as I can for the Initial Release.
IMPORTANT The notification icon position is based on the text position. With the animations enabled, the notification icon will change its frame, line-by-line...KEEP THAT IN MIND!
Of course this will be get fixed, but be patient. Tweak developing has low priority for me, so updates will pushed slowly, as this is only a small visual bug, I think most people will never notice. ;)
The source code can be found here.
SUPPORT If you like that tweak or you have questions, feel free to write me a message on Twitter.
Tweak tested on following Devices:
  • iPhone 8, iOS 16.5 - palera1n rootless
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 15.1 - Xina 1.1.7.2
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 15.1 - Dopamine 2
  • iPhone 11, iOS 16.0.3 - Dopamine 2
This tweak may not work with other notification tweaks! If your device crashes, check your tweaks... It also may not work properly on languages with special characters (Asian, etc...)
DOWNLOAD repo
CREDITS Without the permission of Skittyblock, this tweak will not be possible. Thanks!

Here's a quick and dirty video from my workshop. I trust you'll forgive the fan noise on a 90+ degree day.
The bottom line:
I'm working on installing the Alpha of Knulli now. It looks promising.
Edit: Knulli is fantastic! It look a little work to tweak the options and themes, but now I have a wonderfully functioning and minimalist looking setup. I am using 2 cards and it's flawless.
